- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, let's do and we are here live in the
- 0:02Speaker 1: dunk and Music Lounge at iHeart headquarters at Hartford. Have
- 0:08Speaker 1: we got a live audience with us and we like
- 0:11Speaker 1: to do it with each of the coaches at least
- 0:14Speaker 1: once a year when we get Jim Moore obviously tonight,
- 0:17Speaker 1: with the football season just a couple of ten days away,
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm counting them for ten days.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Coach.
- 0:23Speaker 3: Great to see you. Let's start with the head coach job,
- 0:26Speaker 3: because you've.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Been the head coach now this is the third year here,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but you're really the head coach for the first time
- 0:33Speaker 1: in that that's your real job. Now you're not the
- 0:35Speaker 1: defensive coordinator and other jobs. You're the head coach. How
- 0:39Speaker 1: different is that?
- 0:40Speaker 4: Well, that was the plan all along, and you know,
- 0:43Speaker 4: things happened in that first year that kind of forced
- 0:46Speaker 4: to change. But I think it's really been beneficial to
- 0:50Speaker 4: I know for me and I think for the players
- 0:53Speaker 4: and the team. You know, I was hired to be
- 0:55Speaker 4: the head coach. I wasn't hired to be the defensive coordinator.
- 0:58Speaker 4: I enjoyed doing that, but I think the best thing
- 1:01Speaker 4: I did is fire myself last year and bring in
- 1:04Speaker 4: someone that's that's really really, really good at it, Matt Brock,
- 1:07Speaker 4: and it gave me a chance to do it. I
- 1:08Speaker 4: feel if there's anything that I feel like I do well,
- 1:11Speaker 4: it's probably just the relationships with the players, managing a team,
- 1:16Speaker 4: you know, recognizing where they are emotionally and mentally, and
- 1:20Speaker 4: then managing a game. And I honestly that first year
- 1:24Speaker 4: went pretty well, but last year just it became overwhelming
- 1:28Speaker 4: to me, you know, in the way that I like
- 1:30Speaker 4: to operate.
- 1:31Speaker 2: As a head coach. So it feels it feels pretty good.
- 1:35Speaker 4: I feel like I have a better grasp of the team,
- 1:38Speaker 4: the personalities on the team. I feel like I'm able
- 1:40Speaker 4: to understand how to make the players as individuals in
- 1:44Speaker 4: a group kind of tick and and go. So, you know,
- 1:49Speaker 4: it's tough getting fired, but I think it all worked out.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Okay, so far, you got your job back. I did.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I got my job back. Yeah, that doesn't always happen.
- 2:00Speaker 1: We get fired, that's the end of it. But all right,
- 2:02Speaker 1: So you've been in camp. I've been out running around
- 2:05Speaker 1: playing golf in Ireland and running in the mountains in Colorado.
- 2:08Speaker 1: You've actually been working, getting back to work in the
- 2:12Speaker 1: summer in football. I don't know, if everybody in the
- 2:16Speaker 1: room gets that, that's a hard gig for the players
- 2:19Speaker 1: and the coaches too, because of the heat you're in
- 2:22Speaker 1: and the intensity of it all and you're trying to get.
- 2:25Speaker 3: So much done. Describe this one, this is your third
- 2:28Speaker 3: one here at Yukon. What's it been like.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Well, it's a grind, and it's a real you mentioned
- 2:34Speaker 4: the players, it's a real grind for the players. I
- 2:37Speaker 4: don't know that people really understand what they go through,
- 2:40Speaker 4: the time commitments really in the season, but especially this
- 2:43Speaker 4: time of the year. I mean, they're in the building
- 2:45Speaker 4: by six thirty and this week we kind of transitioned.
- 2:49Speaker 4: But for the first three weeks, you know, they weren't
- 2:51Speaker 4: getting out of the building to ten thirty, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 4: and that's hours and hours and meetings and you know,
- 2:57Speaker 4: it's an hour walk through at two hour and forty
- 2:59Speaker 4: five minute practice, it's you know, their meals, their treatment,
- 3:03Speaker 4: they're taping their recovery.
- 3:06Speaker 2: I mean, it's it's a real grind, and we went
- 3:08Speaker 2: through it. This year. We went hard. You know, we
- 3:10Speaker 2: needed to.
- 3:11Speaker 4: We have twenty seven transfer players that came in, a
- 3:15Speaker 4: new quarterback, five new receivers that weren't with us in
- 3:18Speaker 4: spring practice, and so we really had to hit it
- 3:20Speaker 4: hard and I appreciately appreciate the way that they've worked.
- 3:23Speaker 2: And now we're.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Transitioning more into season mode. But you know, still it's
- 3:27Speaker 4: these guys. You know, during the season, we practice at
- 3:29Speaker 4: seven thirty in the morning, then they you know, they
- 3:32Speaker 4: have their weightlifting, and then they they have school and
- 3:36Speaker 4: then they're back at four forty five till seven every night.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So it's it's a lot, you know.
- 3:41Speaker 4: It's it's different than other sports because in other sports
- 3:44Speaker 4: it doesn't demand that the time commitment to meeting and
- 3:48Speaker 4: watching film because it's so choreographed. Football is very choreographed,
- 3:52Speaker 4: where you know, sports like baseball or basketball for instance,
- 3:55Speaker 4: they're not really I mean they are choreographed to a
- 3:57Speaker 4: certain extent. But the meeting times just amazing. I mean,
- 4:02Speaker 4: you ask Kathy, I mean just always in meetings.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Yeah, Kathy's here because it's more with us.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Good to see her opener coming up ten days away
- 4:12Speaker 1: at College Park, Maryland Big ten. You kick it off
- 4:15Speaker 1: of the Big Ten, then you have a home opener
- 4:17Speaker 1: with Merrimack, and then you.
- 4:18Speaker 3: Go acc on the road. So three real challenges to
- 4:23Speaker 3: kick off your season. Do you like that?
- 4:25Speaker 1: Do you like that to face the best of what
- 4:27Speaker 1: you're gonna have to face right away?
- 4:31Speaker 4: Well, I love to compete, So from that standpoint, yes,
- 4:34Speaker 4: I love it. I think you know, in this day
- 4:37Speaker 4: and age, when you have so many transfers coming in
- 4:39Speaker 4: and you don't really know what your team's gonna be
- 4:41Speaker 4: until they get on the field in a competitive environment
- 4:44Speaker 4: against an opponent, not against you know, some of they
- 4:47Speaker 4: see every day in practice. It would be beneficial to
- 4:50Speaker 4: maybe play some games that you know that maybe aren't
- 4:55Speaker 4: big ten in acc but that's you know, that's just
- 5:00Speaker 4: not the reality of it.
- 5:01Speaker 2: So we just got to go out and compete. I
- 5:03Speaker 2: feel good about where we are.
- 5:06Speaker 4: I mean, you know, you mentioned three teams there, and
- 5:08Speaker 4: two of them are Power four teams that are really
- 5:10Speaker 4: good teams, you know, teams that have done a lot
- 5:13Speaker 4: lately and really improve.
- 5:14Speaker 2: So it's, uh, it'll be a heck of a test.
- 5:17Speaker 4: We just got to We've got to find a way
- 5:18Speaker 4: to to to win those games, you know, and take
- 5:22Speaker 4: them one at a time, and then we get a
- 5:24Speaker 4: great stretch at home, you know, we get six home
- 5:26Speaker 4: games in a row, and if we can have some
- 5:28Speaker 4: momentum going at that point in time.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Uh, and people are excited about us.
- 5:31Speaker 4: You know, we can we can get the rent going
- 5:33Speaker 4: and we can create a really fun environment I think
- 5:36Speaker 4: for our team and for our fans.
- 5:37Speaker 2: And in that six weeks, Yeah, that.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Home stands phenomenal. We'll talk about that. We'll be back
- 5:42Speaker 1: in just a moment. Jimora with us the Yukon Football
- 5:45Speaker 1: Coach This is the Yukon Football Coaches Show.
- 5:47Speaker 3: We're live in studio
- 5:49Speaker 1: Here in Hartford, iHeart Headquarters, and we'll be back in
- 5:54Speaker 1: just a moment on
