- 0:03You're listening to the Bring the Thunder Podcast, a podcast
- 0:06by fans, for fans. Yes, you are indeed, ladies and
- 0:11gentlemen, and welcome back to the Bring the Thunder Podcast.
- 0:14I'm here with Savvier today, episode 31 of the Bring the
- 0:18Thunder podcast already. I mean, I feel like we just
- 0:21started yesterday, but here we are 31 episodes D how many
- 0:25countless videos and game recaps already done, but episode 31
- 0:31today. Sapir, why don't you explain to
- 0:33people at home what's going down today?
- 0:35Yeah, we're going to be doing our official locks for bring the
- 0:40Thunder awards for the 2025 season.
- 0:43So this is just for the calendar year.
- 0:45So that was the playoffs from starting of January all the way
- 0:49up until now. And obviously we started this
- 0:52year pretty hot, but a lot of this is going to revolve around
- 0:56the playoffs, I'm sure, because we won the championship, of
- 0:58course. But let's go ahead and get
- 1:00straight into it. Our first category for the year
- 1:03is Player of the year. I'll let Joe go first.
- 1:06Yeah, I mean, listen, some of these I tried to pick some pick
- 1:13the some things that weren't like too obvious, but this one's
- 1:16pretty obvious. It's going to the MVP, the
- 1:19Finals MVP, the conference Finals MVP, the scoring champ
- 1:23Shake, the oldest Alexander. You can't choose anyone else.
- 1:26I in my opinion, I mean I don't know how you could, but over the
- 1:30next few I have some interesting ones but this one I I can't
- 1:33choose anyone outside of SGA. Yeah, I have to completely
- 1:38agree. Best player on the best team
- 1:41carried us all last year, dominated the playoffs,
- 1:45dominated the finals. I mean, he's not just the best
- 1:49player in our team, I think he's just the best player on the
- 1:52planet. Barely can play fourth quarters.
- 1:56It's just there shouldn't be a debate on this.
- 1:59And if there's anyone else that thinks there's the there is a
- 2:02debate, please reach out to us in the comment section.
- 2:04We'd love to hear your opposing thoughts.
- 2:07And moving to the second award show, for us, it's game of the
- 2:12year. Where do you think we're going
- 2:14to go with this one? Yeah, well, for me, there's
- 2:17actually 2 that I chose. And it's not it's not game seven
- 2:21of the NBA Finals, I'll tell you that.
- 2:23I want to be interesting here. My my favorite game of the year
- 2:27personally, was Game 4 Western Conference Finals in Minnesota.
- 2:31Huge win to go up 31, clutch performance at the end.
- 2:35It got like unnecessarily close, like OKC was kind of riding it
- 2:39out and then all of a sudden Minnesota was back within a
- 2:42score or two. But Game 4, Minnesota really
- 2:45stamped the fact that we were going back to the NBA Finals for
- 2:48the first time in 14 years, 1314 seasons.
- 2:52So that was probably my favorite game of the year.
- 2:55My second favorite comes game four of the Finals, Game four in
- 3:04Indiana, which I'll talk about that game a little bit more
- 3:07because I also brought that up again soon.
- 3:11Yes. For me, I'm going to choose game
- 3:15seven of the NBA Finals or it was nerve racking to even get to
- 3:19that point. I mean, the nerves, the tension,
- 3:25the history, everything builds up to that moment.
- 3:28I mean, if we had lost that moment, there's not many
- 3:30opportunities like a small market team can get to even get,
- 3:35you know, a chance to win their first championship in a game
- 3:37seven. It felt like every possession
- 3:41mattered, every person that stepped up in that one.
- 3:44It just required the whole franchise.
- 3:46Honestly, it, it was just a built up moment that fans really
- 3:51deserved it. And I mean, I feel like Thunder
- 3:54fans are going to remember that moment for the rest of the rest
- 3:57of their lives, 'cause I mean, it's the biggest moment in our
- 4:00history so far. So for me, it was an easy choice
- 4:06all right. I was going to say really quick,
- 4:08I do agree with that one. Obviously it took, I like how
- 4:11you brought it, brought it, you know, it took the whole
- 4:13franchise. It took the fans, just took
- 4:14players, the coaches. The spirit in Oklahoma City was
- 4:17just, everything was so perfect about it.
- 4:20I I didn't want to choose it, but you had to shout it out.
- 4:24Yeah, most definitely. And moving towards the next
- 4:28topic here, it's going to be the play of the year.
- 4:32I'm actually going to start with this one.
- 4:35This is this is a great moment to mention this.
- 4:38It was a Lou Dort desperation deep three-game seven shot clock
- 4:44dying down. Nothing was going in and he
- 4:47pretty much just launched up a prayer and drilled it and the
- 4:51arena absolutely erupted. It was one of the loudest
- 4:54moments in Thunder history. It wasn't just it didn't feel
- 4:58like just another bucket. It felt like that was a big
- 5:01momentum swing. I know we had pretty substantial
- 5:04lead at that point, but that was a moment for me where nothing
- 5:08was dropping and he, he made Thunder history with that
- 5:12moment, in my opinion. So that's my play of the year.
- 5:14I know there's probably tons of other ones that we could have
- 5:17chosen, some amazing moments, but Joe, I'd love to hear yours.
- 5:23Yeah, I think for yours anyway. I think when Lou made that shot,
- 5:27everyone kind of felt that OK, we're going to win this game,
- 5:30we're going to be champions. I I love that play.
- 5:33I'll always remember that. Mine goes back to game four in
- 5:37Indiana finals. J Dub and and Shay were running
- 5:41the two man game down the stretch here and we were down
- 5:44and SGA kind of just took over. But there was a play that really
- 5:46stuck out. J Dub drove right, hit SGA on
- 5:50the right wing, no hesitation. SGA drills the three, OKC goes
- 5:57up and I'll there's more. I'm going to talk about this
- 6:01game, but that play in specific, I mean, SGA and J Dub were just
- 6:05nails during that final stretch of game four.
- 6:07He doesn't make that shot. We most likely don't win the
- 6:10finals. We're going down 31.
- 6:13So probably for me, that's the play of the year.
- 6:16Yeah, most definitely. That was a huge moment as well.
- 6:19Mine wasn't as high leverage, but it just felt like just a
- 6:23moment that everyone can think back to pretty easily.
- 6:26All right, we're going to move towards the best defensive
- 6:29performance. We may have thought of the same
- 6:31one, maybe not. I'm hoping you chose the one I
- 6:35was originally thinking of, but I'm going to go with Chet
- 6:37Holmgren in game seven. I felt like he altered the
- 6:40paint, altered shots. He was huge for us.
- 6:43I don't think we win without him.
- 6:45And the reason I'm mentioning Ludor, Chet, Holmgren in these
- 6:48moments and even other players we're going to mention is
- 6:51there's so much trade talk right now with us on a pretty, you
- 6:54know, losing stint and everything else.
- 6:56We need to take a deep breath. We have a championship level
- 7:00roster that we've only added more depth pieces to.
- 7:03We have more players coming in next season, even in the draft
- 7:06this upcoming year. So we have a lot to look forward
- 7:10to and we've won a lot of games and we should just be very
- 7:12thankful and happy we're in the holiday season.
- 7:15So stay in that holiday spirit. And Chet Holmgren actually had a
- 7:19record amount of blocks in game seven, especially for his age.
- 7:23And he just showed us why he's a defensive franchise pillar.
- 7:27That's that's right. He's still in in the leader in
- 7:31DPOY race this year. And he was huge for us in that
- 7:34finals run. So for everyone calling him
- 7:36weak, whatever else, I mean, come on, he's won a championship
- 7:39ring and that's a lot better than Wimby has done.
- 7:43Savvy, I went with chat Game 7 record setting, most blocks in
- 7:49the NBA Finals, Game 7 history. I mean, how can you not choose
- 7:52it? I know we had a lot of defensive
- 7:54moments last year. I also just wanted to shout out
- 7:57like it's not even a specific moment, just Alex Caruso
- 8:00guarding Nicola Yokich and Jaron.
- 8:05That was outstanding. But you can't, can't go away
- 8:08from what Chet did in game seven.
- 8:09He was everywhere in game seven. He not even you already
- 8:13mentioned it, not even setting the record for blocks, but he
- 8:15was altering like every single shot in the paint.
- 8:19Dominant performance by Chet won championship Chet Game 7.
- 8:23The award goes to from me. Yeah, most definitely.
- 8:27I think that was amazing defensive performance.
- 8:30What is the best scoring performance of the year, Joe?
- 8:34Where your jaw was on the floor? Yeah, there were so many.
- 8:38I know we're obviously thinking of the MVP when it comes to
- 8:41scoring performances for us, but Joe, take it away.
- 8:45Yeah, I mean, a lot of the Thunder fans out there right
- 8:48now, we're going to be like, what is he talking about?
- 8:50Because SGA had multiple 50 point games, multiple high 40
- 8:54point games. I think the best scoring
- 8:57performance for the Thunder all season long was Jalen Williams
- 9:00dropping 40 points in the NBA Finals.
- 9:03Huge game for J Dub. SGA played great in that game as
- 9:06well. But for Jalen Williams to step
- 9:08up in the biggest moment, the NBA Finals dropped a 40 burger
- 9:13at home. That was game five.
- 9:17I think we all thought that we were going to go into Indiana
- 9:19and take in six. After that performance, we
- 9:21obviously got killed. But that performance and that
- 9:24scoring performance, it stands out to me by far.
- 9:31Like that's just, I'm not even going to remember SG as 50 point
- 9:34performance in Golden State last year during the regular season
- 9:37in a game that we lost. I'm going to remember J Dub
- 9:40stepping up, dropping 40 in the NBA Finals and taking the win.
- 9:44Yeah, most definitely. Mine wasn't maybe as high
- 9:47leverage, but if you remember the career high Shay 55 point
- 9:52game, my job was on the floor for that one.
- 9:55I mean, it was one of those moments where it's like he's the
- 9:58best player in the league and people still think back to that
- 10:01game. So I I just from just a scoring
- 10:05perspective and we haven't had a high level score since like
- 10:07Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, like Shay Gilbert Alexander.
- 10:11So if I don't mention his name when it comes to scoring, I
- 10:14mean, we've got to at least, you know, give him his props as well
- 10:17throughout the whole season for all the crazy games that he
- 10:20dropped. And obviously, J Dub deserved a
- 10:23good shout out for this as well. Moving along here.
- 10:27There's one more SAP here I want to throw in there just to give
- 10:29him some absolute credit cause the guy was an absolute baller
- 10:32last year during the regular. Show I know who you're going to.
- 10:35Aaron Wiggins 41 point game against Sacramento, just got to
- 10:37put it out there. That was outstanding and he had
- 10:39a 14 rebounds in that game too. So shout out Aaron Wiggins.
- 10:42Yeah, shout out to Aaron Wiggins.
- 10:44We still want him starting and getting more minutes.
- 10:47We're going to keep hammering that until it gets somewhere.
- 10:50So. Role player of the year.
- 10:54I'm going to go ahead and lead with this.
- 10:56I think this is an easy one. The glue guy, veteran, elite
- 11:01perimeter defender, winning plays everywhere.
- 11:04Brought the toughness, brought the IQ, brought the playoff
- 11:07experience, honestly brought the ring that we needed in a
- 11:11championship role player that every contender could use and
- 11:15that we really got. Alex Crusoe.
- 11:17I mean, best trade by Sam Crusty.
- 11:20He should win executive of the year this upcoming season for
- 11:24those trades in those moves. And I believe he will.
- 11:26And Alex Russo has to be the guy.
- 11:29Like he let us in the playoffs when nothing was going right.
- 11:33We'd literally just turn to him in the second-half of games.
- 11:36He'd turn around games. And I haven't seen a role player
- 11:41like do that in a really long time.
- 11:43There's only probably like a lump sum, a guy that you could
- 11:46even name that has that ability. So what do you think, Joe?
- 11:50Yeah, it's definitely Alex Caruso.
- 11:53Every champion has a guy off their bench that come in in the
- 11:58NBA Finals and just take over and really excel off the bench.
- 12:02And that was Alex Caruso for us. But I'm going to go another
- 12:04route just 'cause I knew you were going to go Caruso.
- 12:06It's the obvious answer. Go.
- 12:07Mckayden Wallace, second year player last year starts in the
- 12:13NBA Finals. Like he didn't start in the 1st
- 12:16three series and then we were like oh OK, in this match up
- 12:19case and you're going to go start and matching up with like
- 12:22Pascal Siakam and stuff. Kayson Wallace is is my choice
- 12:27here for role player of the year.
- 12:28He started early in the regular regular season with injuries.
- 12:31Then he got back to the bench and he was injured, then back to
- 12:34the bench and starting. Then he ends up starting in the
- 12:36NBA Finals and winning a championship.
- 12:39And he also dunked on Nicola Yokich.
- 12:40So I'm going to go with Kayson Wallace.
- 12:43Yeah, can completely agree with him as well.
- 12:46I mean, for a guy his age and what he did for us and how
- 12:49consistent he was, and we needed him to step up big and he did.
- 12:53And to rely on a guy like that. And even this year, he's turned
- 12:56into a DPOY candidate, which is crazy.
- 13:00So big props to him. Breakout player of the year.
- 13:04So this could be from the playoffs or this season as well.
- 13:08I'm going to take J Dub. I mean, he took that leap that
- 13:11we were hoping for. Big moments and huge games.
- 13:15The play making, scoring, versatility.
- 13:17He played center a lot of the season.
- 13:19And of course that Finals impact.
- 13:21I mean, we asked for a secondary player to step up.
- 13:25I think we were down to 1 to the Nuggets.
- 13:28All hope was lost and out of nowhere, Jalen Williams turns
- 13:32into a whole different player. It doesn't matter what happened
- 13:36before, what you saw in the regular season, what you saw in
- 13:38the playoffs before that moment when we're down to 1, he turned
- 13:43into the player that we needed. He channeled his inner Mamba
- 13:47mentality. And I know Kobe's his favorite
- 13:51player and you know, people can say whatever about that, but he,
- 13:55he, he did that. And for a player to channel
- 13:59something deeper within themselves and turn into that
- 14:02player that you need in that moment and that, you know, that
- 14:05player can become. I mean, if I don't mention him,
- 14:08it's got to be him. He's the heart and goal for this
- 14:11team. It feels like he is that Russell
- 14:15Westbrook type of energy. When he dunks or has defensive
- 14:18players, defensive plays, he makes the crowd get energized
- 14:22and he's got to win this one so. Absolutely.
- 14:26You hit it right on the head. It is Jalen Williams for the
- 14:29breakout player of the year. The reason why OKC is struggling
- 14:34right now and very this second is because J Dub is struggling
- 14:37and we know it's because of his wrist and he's still getting
- 14:39back into things. But before on the surgery, like
- 14:44we said, 40 point game in the finals.
- 14:46You mentioned it Game 4 Denver big time performances on the
- 14:50road against Minnesota, big time shots first time All Star last
- 14:55year, all defensive team like you could.
- 14:58The list goes on and on for him last year.
- 14:59That's why OKC was so successful last year was able to win the
- 15:02finals because they had a number two guy who you could go to
- 15:05consistently for the most part in the playoffs after the first
- 15:08round and and the first like 3 games of the second round.
- 15:14And I want to, I want to interject here, and since I'm
- 15:17we're talking so much about this team and we want to bring
- 15:19positivity into the discussion. Jillian Williams didn't have a
- 15:24conventional offseason. People forget how important that
- 15:27is for a player to come in fully healthy and have that training
- 15:31that he needs and requires and then ramp up.
- 15:34This is his offseason right now. This December, I'm expecting him
- 15:40to get into better shape, you know, January, February and then
- 15:43going into the offs, that's when he's going to be hitting in full
- 15:46cylinder and that's really when we need him.
- 15:48So the whole trade J dub or trade chat or whatever, all this
- 15:51talk, just get rid of the nonsense and know we have the
- 15:55team that we need. It's just a little bit of
- 15:57patience from the squad and we're still winning games with
- 16:00or without these guys with how much Shay's carrying us.
- 16:02But I know he'll be he'll be ready when the moment needs him.
- 16:06And you guys got to remember he's coming off a really
- 16:08gruesome injury for anyone that knows about it and just wanted
- 16:13to point that out. He didn't have a dimensional
- 16:16time to, you know, get in shape and all that other stuff.
- 16:18So trust me, guys, he will be ready.
- 16:22But let's go towards our fan favorite of the year.
- 16:25There's an obvious choice here. I'm going to go with the obvious
- 16:28choice as I've done the whole video.
- 16:31Jaylen Williams, J Will energy guy.
- 16:33He gets the charges, he hustles, he has the best bench
- 16:37celebrations, He's a big personality.
- 16:39He's another glue guy. He feels like the modern day
- 16:42Nick Carlson. He's another guy that we could
- 16:46say he's the heart and soul. Him and J Dub get along really
- 16:48well for a reason and both of these guys are just amazing for
- 16:53us. But Jay Will deserves his own
- 16:55credit for the teammate that he is.
- 16:57He's always smiling. You won't find a happier player
- 17:00and he's he's my fan favorite and I know there's so many other
- 17:04names we could name. There's so many, so I'm going to
- 17:07shout out a player here and it's a the Bring the Thunder podcast.
- 17:10Fan favorite from last year is Brandon Carlson.
- 17:12I mean, first year on the team, Brandon Carlson steps up, plays
- 17:15super well in the regular season.
- 17:17Definitely still is a fan favorite.
- 17:19But I took a different route just because I knew you were
- 17:21going to go J Will. And I don't want to stay
- 17:23repetitive here. What was Sam Presti?
- 17:25What was Sam Presti? He's the one who brought in all
- 17:29this talent, the right coaching, the right players, the right
- 17:32people in the organization. And he turned around what was
- 17:36looking like. And but like what Aaron Wiggins
- 17:38said, the black hole of the NBA to ANBA champion and not only a
- 17:44champion, but a team that started off 26 and four to start
- 17:47this season. So shout out Sam Presti.
- 17:50He is at least my favorite person in the Thunder
- 17:55organization as of right now. Oh yeah, for sure.
- 17:58I mean, without saying, I don't think any of this is possible in
- 18:02the leadership that he has. With the ownership, it starts
- 18:05from the top down. So big props to him and we can
- 18:09name every player on the team. Every player, yeah, yeah.
- 18:14For best clutch performance, what do you got for this one?
- 18:18Yeah, I'm going back to it. This is SGA fourth quarter game
- 18:22four in Indiana NBA Finals took over.
- 18:26We were down the whole game. It was it was a close game, but
- 18:30we were down the whole game looking down, looking down the
- 18:33barrel of going down three one in the NBA Finals blowing our
- 18:37chance SGA comes in takes over. I already mentioned the the
- 18:41three pointer from the right wing drives left step back all
- 18:46over Naismith to go up I believe and he had it was just him.
- 18:51He took over the whole fourth quarter.
- 18:53They couldn't stop him no matter what they tried.
- 18:55He was not losing that game and 35 point performance on the road
- 19:00in game four. I don't think you can get more
- 19:02clutch than that. I don't.
- 19:03I really don't think you can. Yeah, the clutch performance for
- 19:08me is how we turn it around against the Nuggets.
- 19:13Honestly, when we're down to 1, we had the most diabolical live
- 19:19post game show that was deleted off the face of the planet.
- 19:22I went into a crazy fit of rage. I made ridiculous reels about it
- 19:28where I had flashbacks to back when we were down to one in the
- 19:32Finals and ended up only winning one game against the Miami Heat.
- 19:37And for us to turn it around in that second round and turn
- 19:41around our history, to be honest, that game for was
- 19:45pivotal for my mental health and I believe every one of our
- 19:49mental health because nothing else after that would have been
- 19:52possible if we hadn't won that game.
- 19:55And I know that's when J Dub turned it around and the team
- 20:00honestly shocked me for winning that and then going on obviously
- 20:04to win the finals. But I thought that was just.
- 20:07One of those moments where it was super defining for us and it
- 20:11was super clutch. I know the game maybe itself.
- 20:14We just clamped down on defense, did what we needed to do.
- 20:17And I don't think the rest of the playoffs could be mentioned
- 20:22without that one moment because I know where everyone's head was
- 20:26at. Yeah.
- 20:28And we were in shambles. Down to 1 to the the Joker.
- 20:33I mean, come on. Yeah, they showed an extreme
- 20:35amount of resiliency that we weren't sure if the team had it
- 20:38or not at the time because they haven't proved that yet.
- 20:41But I absolutely agree with that as well.
- 20:45The main reason I agree with that is we all know it.
- 20:50We shouldn't have lost game one. They absolutely blew it.
- 20:53So to be down to 1 after blowing, giving one away, we
- 20:59were we were in, we were in deep and luckily our defense clamped
- 21:03up. And then Lou Dort comes home and
- 21:05saves the day at home and we get the job done.
- 21:07So yeah, that's that's another another great point for clutch
- 21:11moments or moments plural of the year.
- 21:14Yeah, and then the best Thunder moment of the year.
- 21:19Yeah, so obviously it's winning the NBA championship.
- 21:22There's no way around that. But I brought up another one
- 21:25just because don't want to see, you know, keep stating the
- 21:28obvious here. I went with game seven against
- 21:31Denver, Game seven against Denver, hard series, long
- 21:35series. Come home.
- 21:37It's a day game. I hate day games.
- 21:39I just think like everything's off during day games.
- 21:42Denver started off hot and then it was over.
- 21:46Thunder went on a roll. It was probably the best
- 21:49feeling. It was just like a sigh of
- 21:51relief. That series was so brutal.
- 21:53Watching Jokic, she was dominating, but just knowing
- 21:56that he was going to go to the line over and over and he's
- 21:58tackling our players and he's getting the foul calls and he's
- 22:01jumping on Jay Will's back and getting a foul call just to be
- 22:04over and done with that series and not, you know, we didn't
- 22:08have to watch the whole game seven.
- 22:10Obviously we did it. But I mean like as I'm like we
- 22:13won the game in the second quarter.
- 22:14It was already done. You can just take a big deep
- 22:17breath, sigh of relief. I'm going to shout out that
- 22:20game. I think that that game made me
- 22:21feel really good about where the Thunder were and I was just so
- 22:24happy to be done with that series and and moving on to the
- 22:27Western Conference. Finals I can confidently say Joe
- 22:31legit had a sigh of relief after that game 'cause that series was
- 22:35mentally brutal for all of us. Like I don't know how the
- 22:38players got through that one and the resilience they showed.
- 22:42It gives me a lot more like now that we've had a run, we're
- 22:46we're older now and can really watch the games the way we do.
- 22:50Yeah, that was a huge moment. The other one that I want to
- 22:52mention, obviously winning the championship is the key moment
- 22:56here. Confetti falling, Shay holding
- 22:58the trophy, giving Jada the props.
- 23:00And, you know, Chet after that, you know, received his ring,
- 23:04showed off his ring later on in the season.
- 23:06But that moment created another very famous moment for us, and
- 23:11that was the Aaron Wiggins speech, speech I've ever heard
- 23:16in my entire life. The most hype I've ever been.
- 23:18I mean, legit just going crazy listening to it when it was
- 23:24happening in real time. I was just so hype.
- 23:26And I think that brought a fan favorite moment for us.
- 23:30And so with the championship came a bunch of other moments.
- 23:34And you know, the Thunder, we're on the top of the world for
- 23:37once. And that feeling is going to be
- 23:40just forever for us. And that really concludes all
- 23:43our awards. I mean, that's the history.
- 23:45That's the 2025 awards. Let us know in the comments what
- 23:49we got right, what we got wrong, who your winners are.
- 23:52And this has just been a legendary season.
- 23:55And I'm going to let Joe take us out of here.
