- 0:00Or back on the Yukon Men's basketball Coaches show hockey team back in action at
- 0:03the XL six forty five tomorrow. Maine is in. They got a really
- 0:07good hockey team and the Huskies will take them on six forty five the pre
- 0:10in. They'll drop the puck at seven. Back with Dan Hurley wrapping up
- 0:14our talk about Xavier and Caravan coming back with ten stitches. I know,
- 0:18James dorn is kind of the jack of all trades over there on that training
- 0:22staff coach, but even he didn't have enough stitch work to stitch up Caravan.
- 0:27How did he get fixed up? Now? I mean, we need
- 0:30Mick. We needed we needed Mick from Rocky. We couldn't. I don't
- 0:37know where he was. He was at the end of the bench. Yeah,
- 0:40I think generally, you know, players come back in with some type
- 0:46of you know, band aid to kind of just get you through the game.
- 0:50But you know, obviously we had you know, Samsung was in foul
- 0:52trouble. You know, Donovan's at least he's out of the booth, but
- 0:55he's not out there and and yeah, and then Alex disappears into the tunnel.
- 1:02So it was, uh, you know, it was Jalen Stewart at
- 1:06the five and you know Steph at the four, and you know, thank
- 1:10God, thank God for the three veteran guards. And you know, it's
- 1:14good to see Stewie in there. Stewie. Uh, you know, our
- 1:17version of Stewie is definitely getting better, becoming more of a factor for us.
- 1:23And you know, to have a six to seven guy that you know
- 1:29that's got some size and athleticism, skill and feel and it's starting to get
- 1:32some confidence. Uh, you know, to be able to win that game
- 1:36with some of the lineups that we had in there, and and and to
- 1:41come out of it, uh, and Donovan getting healthier, I think we'll
- 1:45feel good about where we are. Yeah, Jalen Stewart thirteen minutes at Xavier,
- 1:49I made a bucket, had a couple of rebounds and the stuff that
- 1:52doesn't get on the stat sheet. Dan, you know, he defended pretty
- 1:56well, I thought, I mean he was getting bounced around in area way
- 1:59Xavier plays physically. I thought Stewart stood up pretty well. He did,
- 2:02And and you go back and watch the film, it just like he's he's
- 2:07earning the trust. You know, he's earning more trust from us as the
- 2:10staff. He's earning more trust, you know, for me and and not
- 2:15the most trusting trusting person. You really got to earn it and as you
- 2:21should have to earn it. He uh, you see him on film though,
- 2:24he he looks like he knows what he's doing, you know. He
- 2:30he blew a he blew a switch late in the first half on a ball
- 2:34screen with alavadis that you know, they gave up a three that cost us
- 2:38three points there. But yeah, so he's got to shore up more things.
- 2:44But I think that's a that's a really positive development where it's going for
- 2:49for Jalen Yep and the work of Steph Castle continues to improve. I mean,
- 2:53almost thirty six minutes in that game, six for nine had twelve points,
- 2:58eight assists. You know, it's interesting. I keep tracking these things
- 3:01as a game goes on or calling the game, but I didn't think he
- 3:04had eight assists. But wow, what a big advantage to have a versatile
- 3:07guy like that to can go get six rebounds and then get eight assists as
- 3:12well in a game like that. Yeah, he's yeah, these are very
- 3:16These experiences for him are just so valuable and you know, you could see
- 3:24you know he could handle the physicality of these games. Uh. You know,
- 3:29he's a guy that you know, showing the ability to you know,
- 3:34to create for others and create threes and and opportunities at the rim for the
- 3:38finishers, and you want to see him shoot the ball. I think he
- 3:43passed on uh some rhythm threes he done. You know, he's got good
- 3:47form and good technique and and I think he's a guy that's going to make
- 3:51threes. First arrested away. I thought early in each half there were rhythm
- 3:55threes where he was given cushion that that he's got to step into and shoot
- 4:00earlier in halfs, you know, because he's not the type of guy that
- 4:03should be, you know, shy shooting the ball from the perimeter. Well,
- 4:08that's always good to hear from the coach, don't be shy. Five
- 4:12for nine at Butler for Steph he had nine boards and now one fourteen points.
- 4:15And then he comes back with six for nine at Xavier with the twelve
- 4:18points, and I mentioned the six the six rebounds, but coach, his
- 4:24versatility defending, Wow, what an asset that is for the Huskies. Yeah,
- 4:29we lost, you know, we lost some of that or a lot
- 4:33of that, you know, on the perimeter with Nahim and Andre and even
- 4:38Hawk, you know, became a much better defender and lengthy defenders. And
- 4:45you know, just in constructing this team and getting him back and healthy now
- 4:50and getting him experience, you know, he's got to be the type of
- 4:54guy that that that can be a shutdown defender at six six and physically strong
- 5:00and moves his feet so well, and as his technique and understanding improves and
- 5:04as it just grows up and matures, you know, he's got a chance
- 5:09to be a real difference maker. Yeah, plus eight on the plus minus
- 5:12thing, and Samson Johnson was plus nine coach. I hate to bring this
- 5:16up. You got Georgetown Sunday, any way, to avoid thinking that of
- 5:23that as some kind of a trap game or having a letdown after these two
- 5:27great road winds, you come home, you're riding high. What do you
- 5:30do to get these guys in that mindset that, like Fellas, it ain't
- 5:34going to be easy today. Well, I mean, listen, if that
- 5:38falls on me, falls on me as a leader in terms of the psychology
- 5:42and motivational peace and the culture and what we're trying to accomplish, you know,
- 5:48with this team, we're not anywhere near what we're what we're trying to
- 5:53accomplish and what's important to us in terms of our focus and our goals.
- 5:59So our goals are so far far away from us, they're months away.
- 6:03So there's nothing to feel too great about. I mean, we we we've
- 6:09earned the confidence that we have right now, and we need our fans.
- 6:14I mean we we need uh. I mean, you know, we're heading
- 6:17to Hartford, We're heading to the Excel. We've played in some incredible venues
- 6:21recently in terms of the road crowds that we've faced, and we've got to
- 6:27have like a sold out crowd that is like is ready from the anthem and
- 6:32is foemen at the mouth and there is an intense environment and then it's behind
- 6:36us from the start and gets us to play at a higher level and rattles
- 6:42Georgetown. I mean, we we need to have the you know, just
- 6:46a crazy home court advantage on Sunday because you are battling some human nature things
- 6:51and to talk about number one rankings and all this stuff, you know,
- 6:57and and we want to we want to be different. We want to show
- 7:01just the difference and in who we are as a program that we will all
- 7:05come out flat, but we also need the building to be absolutely rocking,
- 7:11like an incredible home court advantage. Yeah, nothing like having the crowd behind
- 7:15you. You haven't had that the last couple of games, but overcame it
- 7:18to get to this point. You can now a record of fourteen and two,
- 7:23and we appreciate Dan and Hurley and we'll see you a Sunday, coach.
- 7:27Let's go get him, keep it going. It's fun to win.
- 7:30That's better, so much better. All right, that's so much Yeah,
- 7:35winning Trump's everything as far as I know. Ye. I will be back
- 7:41with more of the Yukon Men's Basketball Coaches Show Onlearfield
