- 0:00Genesis chapter 3. Let us pray.
- 0:06Oh Father, here we are again. Lord Jesus, I pray that you'll
- 0:11come near to us. Lord, come and be in the room.
- 0:15Lord, light it up. Father, fan the flame.
- 0:19Father, blow on us. Father, Holy Spirit, fill us
- 0:24today. Fill us overflowing into our
- 0:28neighborhoods, into our workplaces, fill us today
- 0:33supernaturally, fill us with the zeal of God, with the love of
- 0:37God. Fill us, Holy Spirit, and give
- 0:41us the mind of Christ or break our heart for what breaks yours?
- 0:45Well, we cry out, hosanna, hosanna in the highest Lord,
- 0:50save, save to the utmost. Your arm is not too short to
- 0:54save. And so, God, we just pray right
- 0:57now that you will reach out and grab them out of the fire.
- 1:01Grab them out of the icy waters, Lord, as we are in the lifeboat.
- 1:06Lord, I pray that you'll snatch them, God, and clothe them in
- 1:10righteousness. Impute to them, Father, your
- 1:13purity. Lord, I pray that we can stand
- 1:16in your holy presence. Gird up our loins, God, we look
- 1:21upon you with eyes like fire and hair like wool.
- 1:24The voice of the many multitudes.
- 1:26Lord, we surrender all, not just some and not just most.
- 1:30We surrender every last molecule, every last thought,
- 1:35every last emotion and feeling, every last passion.
- 1:40Lord, we surrender it all to you.
- 1:42We surrender how we think this life should go, we surrender.
- 1:46God. All of our wants and desires, we
- 1:49surrender, Lord, our very lives over to you as living
- 1:53sacrifices. Help us not to slide off the
- 1:56altar, Lord. Help us to willingly lay before
- 2:00you, God, as sold out, lay down lovers of Yeshua, for you are
- 2:07worthy to be praised. You are worthy of all honor.
- 2:11Lord, I pray that you'll heal us, God, heal our bodies, heal
- 2:17our infirmities, heal our diseases.
- 2:21God, I pray that you will make us whole.
- 2:24Lord, I pray that you will speak life over us.
- 2:29You are the great physician, Lord, so I pray that you'll
- 2:33carve out the cancer. You'll carve out all of the
- 2:36dross and impurities. Lord, make us holy as you are.
- 2:40Holy Father, I pray for marriages around the world.
- 2:45Lord, I pray that you'll continue to raise up warriors
- 2:50unto yourself. God, I pray for all the children
- 2:54to be taught Deuteronomy 6. Lord, I pray that we will teach
- 2:58them on the road. Teach them as we go.
- 3:01Teach them in our houses when we rise and when we lay down.
- 3:05We'll write it on our doorposts and on our gates.
- 3:08God that you are Lord Jesus Christ is Lord Jesus Christ is
- 3:13life. Jesus Christ is breath.
- 3:16So everything is hinged upon Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
- 3:21Yeshua. He is our all sufficient
- 3:25sacrifice. We thank you for being at one
- 3:28with you, Father. We thank you for the
- 3:30righteousness. We thank you, God, that you have
- 3:32imputed unto us justification, Lord, thank you for the covering
- 3:38that we possess, that we can come in to the holiest of holy
- 3:42places, Lord, and stand in your presence.
- 3:45We make our prayers and supplications known to you,
- 3:48Father. We ask you, Lord, for righteous
- 3:51leaders today. We ask you for worldwide global
- 3:55revival, God. We ask you today that you'll
- 4:00shore up the family unit. God, strengthen US, strengthen
- 4:05the church, the ekklesia, the called out ones.
- 4:08God, I pray that you, Lord, will be honored and glorified and
- 4:12magnified through the reading of your text today.
- 4:17Lord, come and get your glory. We surrender.
- 4:20Father, thank you, Lord, for all that you do.
- 4:22And it's in Jesus Christ, holy, precious and powerful.
- 4:27An awesome name that we pray. Amen.
- 4:32Well, let's start in verse one. Now the serpent was more subtle
- 4:39than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.
- 4:44And he said unto the woman, yeah, as God said, you shall not
- 4:49eat of every tree of the garden. Look at the way this crafty
- 4:53serpent comes in and he's trying to twist God's words.
- 4:58And you can see here that this is Satan.
- 5:00We learned that over in Revelation when he said the
- 5:03serpent, the dragon, which is Satan the devil, We know that
- 5:07this is the adversary, the accuser of the brethren, and he
- 5:11has taken this form of a serpent to come in and looking, Look at
- 5:16how Eve was not even thrown off by the fact that a serpent was
- 5:20talking to her. We can only start to use our
- 5:23imagination to ponder upon all of the ideas of what the garden
- 5:33was like. But we see here that this
- 5:35serpent has come in and is speaking with Eve and she should
- 5:39have ran, she should have gotten out of there.
- 5:42She should not have entertained the serpent, but she makes a
- 5:47grave mistake by listening to him and having dialogue with
- 5:51him. The only thing that we need to
- 5:53say to the serpent is the Lord rebuke you.
- 5:58That is it. We do not try to reason with the
- 6:02enemy. We rebuke them in the mighty
- 6:05name of Jesus Christ and watch them flee.
- 6:08Darkness cannot stand in the same place that Jesus's name is
- 6:13spoken. So we need to be faithful to
- 6:18always remember that when the enemy comes up against us, we
- 6:22use the scripture to combat him and tell him to kick rocks in
- 6:27the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Verse 2 And the woman said to
- 6:32the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the
- 6:35garden. So here she is, she starts this
- 6:39dialogue, which was her first mistake, verse 3.
- 6:43But of the fruit of the tree, which is in the midst of the
- 6:46garden, God has said you shall not eat of it, neither shall you
- 6:51touch it unless you die. So here, if we remember
- 6:56correctly, it was God who told Adam not to eat from the tree of
- 7:02life, not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and
- 7:06evil. And here it was up to Adam to
- 7:11relay that over to Eve. And we see that when he related
- 7:16over to her, he must have told her not to even touch it.
- 7:21And perhaps that was his way of just making sure that she never
- 7:26even went around the tree. So here the serpent is grabbing
- 7:30a hold of the inconsistencies between God and Adam and Adam to
- 7:37Eve. And now he's trying to come in
- 7:41and cause division and cause the doubt to creep in.
- 7:46And he's going to tell Eve. He's going to get her to believe
- 7:50that God's holding out on her and that somehow there was once
- 7:54a time where God was like she is, and that God ate from this
- 7:58tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
- 8:00And that's how he became a God and that's why he has authority
- 8:03over her. So she's going to believe this
- 8:06lie, friends. And it falls on Adam's shoulders
- 8:11because he did not explain it to her in the way that it was
- 8:16explained to him for. And the serpent said to the
- 8:23woman, you shall not surely die. Here's what you need to
- 8:27understand. God has placed eternity into the
- 8:30hearts of man. And the reason that we wrestle
- 8:33with death as much as we do, the reason that death feels like
- 8:37such a betrayal is because we were made to live forever.
- 8:42We were made to be immortal. And it wasn't until after
- 8:47Genesis chapter 3, whenever the fall comes and we get the coat
- 8:51of skins and we become mortal friends, that we wrestle with
- 8:56death in the way that we do. Because deep down we know that
- 9:01death is not supposed to be. Deep down we know that we were
- 9:06created to live forever. So here the serpent hijacks
- 9:10that, and he hijacks the fact that we were made to be
- 9:15immortal. And he tells her, you will not
- 9:17die. But what he left out was the
- 9:20fact that the death that God warned Adam about was the death
- 9:25of not being able to habitate the Garden of Eden and having
- 9:31our eyes open to the shame and having our eyes open to the sin
- 9:36in the world. And that is what Satan so
- 9:41deceptively left out of the equation. 5 For God does know
- 9:50that in the day that you eat of it, your eyes will be open, and
- 9:54you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
- 9:57So this is the lie of the Mormon church, the Church of Latter Day
- 10:02Saints. This is the lie that they're
- 10:04going to get their own planet. They're going to be their own
- 10:06gods. This is Satanism at its core,
- 10:10friends. This is so many of the schisms
- 10:14from Christianity pure unadulterated Christianity,
- 10:20Bible based Christianity none of these one off shoots all of the
- 10:28denominations that have sprang up Scientology and all the
- 10:32garbage that has sprang up through the Christian freedom of
- 10:37expression of religion that we so enjoy.
- 10:44But the fact that there are so many that have created these
- 10:48false religions, friends, so many people have created a mixed
- 10:54up theology based on loose scripture, cherry picked verses
- 11:01of this universalism and all the garbage that is out there.
- 11:05Friends, it's all based upon Satanism of us wanting to be our
- 11:10own gods, and that is what is presented to Eve here.
- 11:15And she takes the hook, line and sinker.
- 11:26Six. And the woman saw that the tree
- 11:28was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree
- 11:33to be desired to make one wise. And she took the fruit of it and
- 11:38did eat, and gave also to her husband with her, and he did
- 11:42eat. This is the lust of the eyes,
- 11:46the lust of the flesh. This is the pride of life, all
- 11:51mentioned here. It's the same tactic that Satan
- 11:55used with Jesus in the wilderness when he was tempted
- 12:01right before he launched his earthly ministry.
- 12:04It this is the tactic that Satan uses on mankind.
- 12:08And if it's not broke, don't fix it.
- 12:11So he sees no need to fix his tactic because it is so
- 12:16effective. Think about it, friends.
- 12:18The lust of the eyes. That is where most people fail.
- 12:24They look at things and they want them and they will do
- 12:28anything to get them. The lust of the flesh.
- 12:30This is so much of the sexual perversion that is rampant,
- 12:35friends. And then the most subtle of them
- 12:38all is the pride of life, which we don't see anything wrong
- 12:42with. But at its core, it's satanic
- 12:46because we're choosing the things of this world over the
- 12:49things of God. And we believe that God is
- 12:52holding out on us. And we're not willing to
- 12:55completely sell out to God because we want this life and
- 13:00the life to come. And look at how Eve was
- 13:07deceived, but how Adam wilfully disobeyed.
- 13:13He took it and he ate it, perhaps because he did not want
- 13:16her to be left out in the cold. And so he chose the woman over
- 13:22God. And there are so many men today
- 13:25that do the same. All of this feminist movement
- 13:29that marginalizes and kicks down the leadership of men.
- 13:35And we are called chauvinist pigs.
- 13:40And to be fair, 99.99% of men do not deserve a submissive wife.
- 13:49But this is the culture at large that takes the man and relegates
- 13:54him to the animal and elevates the woman over the man.
- 13:59And you're going to see in the same chapter why that happens.
- 14:04God has put into the woman an innate ability to lead, and
- 14:09there is friction between a woman who has that ability and a
- 14:16man who refuses to rise up and be the spiritual leader of his
- 14:20home, to be the high priest of his home.
- 14:23And you see, it played out day after day after day after month
- 14:27after month after month after year after year after year after
- 14:32generation over generation of men who refuse to rise up and be
- 14:37the spiritual leader in the high priest of their home.
- 14:41And they allow the woman to usurp the authority over him.
- 14:46And this is not the way of the Lord.
- 14:51The way of the Lord is that God is at the top, followed by the
- 14:54leadership of the husband, followed by the submissiveness
- 15:00of a woman to her husband, followed by the obedience of
- 15:04children to the mother. And it is all to the degree that
- 15:08the man will sell out to the Lord God Almighty.
- 15:11Then she will have no problem with being submissive to someone
- 15:16that she sees is actually listening and in tune with God.
- 15:21And that is why you see the breakdown of the family and so
- 15:25much disobedience and chaos within the family is because the
- 15:29man refuses to step into that leadership.
- 15:34And our culture and our society tells us that we do not need the
- 15:42toxic masculinity that you see within men and the culture of
- 15:47men. And you see that men are just
- 15:49dogs and animals that are led by their the wrong senses.
- 15:55They're led by their emotions, they're led by their
- 15:59perversions. And that is why we're in such
- 16:02the state that we're in. 7 And the eyes of them both were open,
- 16:11and they knew that they were naked, and they sowed fig leaves
- 16:16together and made themselves aprons.
- 16:20So here shame entered in. This is the beginning of it all,
- 16:25and you cannot take Genesis chapter 3 out of the Bible and
- 16:29make any sense of the rest of the Bible.
- 16:32If you went from Genesis chapter 1 and 2 right into Genesis
- 16:36chapter 4, none of it would make sense.
- 16:39So this chapter is one of, if not the most important chapters
- 16:45in all of the Bible to explain the mess that we're in today and
- 16:50explain the redemption story that Jesus Christ offers to us
- 16:55if we will take it. So you see here that they
- 16:59immediately understood the shame in their nakedness, which they
- 17:04had not known prior. 8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God
- 17:08walking in the garden in the cool of the day.
- 17:11And Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of
- 17:14the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.
- 17:18So here you can see that this was probably a regular
- 17:21occurrence, that God would come and walk with them in the cool
- 17:26of the day. We can meet Him there today,
- 17:29friends. He desires for you to come and
- 17:32to meet Him in the cool of the day.
- 17:35This is when we have intimate communion with a loving God.
- 17:39And this is a Christophany of Christ preincarnate, coming in
- 17:44the form of a man to come and meet with them in the garden.
- 17:48And he already knows because he's omniscient, but he asked
- 17:52the question to provoke from them a confession.
- 17:57Let's see how they do. 9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and
- 18:03he said to him, Where are you? 10 And he said, I heard your
- 18:07voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked, and
- 18:11I hid myself. They never knew their nakedness
- 18:14prior to eating of the forbidden fruit. 11 And he said, Who told
- 18:20you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree where
- 18:24I commanded you that you should not eat?
- 18:29He already knew, but he wanted to see the response of mankind.
- 18:36He gave us free will. He gave us the the decision to
- 18:42make is our own, and we have to make it.
- 18:46And he loves whenever mankind chooses him, and chooses him at
- 18:52his word, and takes him on faith.
- 18:55That is what pleases God more than just making us into robots.
- 19:00He could have made us like he did the angels to serve him
- 19:05regardless, but he did not. He gave us this free will. 12
- 19:14And the man said, The woman who you gave to me to be with me,
- 19:18she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
- 19:21So there he goes, passing the buck, passing the blame.
- 19:24There he goes, blame shifting. He does not take the
- 19:27responsibility. He immediately halfway blames
- 19:32her and halfway blames God. 13 And the Lord God said to the
- 19:37woman, What is this that you have done?
- 19:41And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did he.
- 19:45There she goes blame shifting. Look at how God immediately when
- 19:51he comes into the garden he addresses Adam 1st and it is
- 19:55because he gave the responsibility to Adam.
- 19:59And in a healthy marriage friends, that is the way that it
- 20:02works. A submissive woman bows down low
- 20:06and when God swings the mighty hammer it is the man that takes
- 20:10the brunt of the hit. Here she is, and she blames
- 20:17shifts on to the serpent. 14 And the Lord God said to the
- 20:22serpent, Because you have done this, you are cursed above all
- 20:26cattle, and above every beast of the field.
- 20:30Upon your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat, all the
- 20:33days of your life. Look at how he does not try to
- 20:37question the serpent. He already knows him from Isaiah
- 20:4014. He already knows him from
- 20:42Ezekiel 28. He already knows that there is
- 20:46sin that has been found in the serpent.
- 20:49He knows his trickery, and so he gives him the pronouncement of
- 20:55the curse to wallow upon his belly and to grovel the rest of
- 21:03his days. That is where Satan is today.
- 21:06He's grasping at straws. He's defeated in the mighty name
- 21:10of Jesus. The only power that he has is
- 21:12the power that we give over to him. 15 And I will put enmity
- 21:19between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed.
- 21:25It shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
- 21:29So here's what you need to know. This is the gospel pronounced
- 21:33for the first time. Friends, this is the gospel
- 21:39being announced. And God was giddy to pronounce
- 21:44this gospel over the serpent. He shows him his magnificent
- 21:49plan all the way back here in the 3rd chapter of the Word of
- 21:53God. And he tells him that from the
- 21:59Immaculate Conception of Mary, he does not mention anything
- 22:03about Adam's seed. He talks about the seed of the
- 22:07woman, and that is the pronouncement of the virgin
- 22:10birth. The Immaculate Conception that
- 22:15we see happen. And then you can see that Satan
- 22:20is going to bruise Jesus's heel on the cross, but it will not be
- 22:25a wound that produces death. It will only bruise him.
- 22:31But it says that he will crush his head.
- 22:33He's going to bruise his head. He is done.
- 22:36He is finished. Finito over with.
- 22:38He's cooked, friends, and that is what he is writhing in agony
- 22:44over, because he knows his time is short, and he will be thrown
- 22:48into the lake of fire forever, and there is no hope for him. 16
- 22:57Unto the woman, he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and
- 23:02your conception in sorrow. You shall bring forth children,
- 23:07and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over
- 23:11you. So he's increasing the pains
- 23:15that are in childbirth. Perhaps prior to the fall it
- 23:22would have been a whole lot easier for a woman to give
- 23:25birth, but the pains are increased.
- 23:28But the second part here is the most interesting.
- 23:32God says you will desire your husband, but he will rule over
- 23:35you. And that is understood as she
- 23:39will try to usurp her authority over the husband, but he shall
- 23:45have the leadership over her. And that is one of the hardest
- 23:50things for a woman to learn, especially when she sees her
- 23:54husband as someone who is not following after God in the
- 24:00proper way. It is so hard for her to submit.
- 24:07If a man is not completely sold out to God and listening to the
- 24:12Lord and in tune with the Lord, then the woman finds it almost
- 24:18next to near impossible to submit because she sees that a
- 24:23lot of the things that she views life through the lens that she
- 24:29views life through are actually a better way than the man.
- 24:34And so it's hard for her to relinquish her leadership
- 24:40capabilities to a man who she doesn't see as able. 17 And unto
- 24:54Adam, he said, Because you have listened to the voice of your
- 24:58wife, and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you,
- 25:01saying, you shall not eat of it. Cursed is the ground for your
- 25:06sake. In sorrow shall you eat of it
- 25:08all the days of your life. See, in the original design, in
- 25:12the Garden of Eden, man did not need to eat to live.
- 25:17It was for enjoyment purposes only.
- 25:20And it will be like that in New Jerusalem.
- 25:23We will not have to eat to survive.
- 25:26But part of the curse when he cursed the ground, which by the
- 25:30way, is one of the most beautiful acts of grace ever
- 25:34displayed, When God turns the curse away from Adam and points
- 25:39it towards the ground, it is grace.
- 25:44But now from the sweat of the brow, and thorns and thistles,
- 25:48we have to scratch out a living for ourselves all the days of
- 25:54our life. 18 Thorns also in thistles shall it bring forth to
- 25:59you, and you shall eat of the herb of the field.
- 26:02So here you can see so much of it points towards Jesus Christ
- 26:09and you saw for a crown He wore the crown of thorns.
- 26:13And this is all pointing towards the beautiful picture, the
- 26:17masterpiece that God is painting all the way back here in the 3rd
- 26:21chapter of Genesis 19. In the sweat of your face shall
- 26:27you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it was
- 26:31you taken. For dust you are, and unto dust
- 26:34you shall return. So here you can see Death
- 26:38entering into the scene that was not in the original design of
- 26:41the Garden of Eden. And you see that we got punished
- 26:46with having to work in the land, producing so much of the
- 26:51opposition, so much of the toilsome labor that we have to
- 26:57go out and scratch a living for ourselves is due to the Fall. 20
- 27:06And Adam called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother
- 27:10of all living. So prior to this, this is the
- 27:13first time that you see her name actually mentioned.
- 27:17And prior to this, she was called his wife and she was
- 27:21called the Woe man. And here you see she finally
- 27:26steps into her identity where she's going to start birthing
- 27:31all the generations that you and I come from every continent and
- 27:36every people group runs. We can trace our genealogy back
- 27:41to Eve 21 and Adam also and to his wife.
- 27:47Did the Lord God make coats of skins and clothed them?
- 27:52So this is the first animal sacrifice.
- 27:55And we see that there is a covering for sin.
- 27:59We see that God covers them and he uses blood for the remission
- 28:04of sins. And we see here that it's all
- 28:07pointing towards Jesus Christ. 22 And the Lord God said,
- 28:13Behold, the man has become as one of us to no good and evil
- 28:17now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of
- 28:21life, and eat and live forever. So here we can see that God is
- 28:29speaking to the other two of the Holy Trinity.
- 28:34He's speaking to God the Son and God the Holy Ghost.
- 28:38And he's saying, look, man is now enlightened, and we cannot
- 28:44leave him in this sinful state for all of eternity.
- 28:48So they're going to have to do something about it. 23 Therefore
- 28:52the Lord God sent him forth from the Garden of Eden to till the
- 28:56ground from where he was taken. So he expels him from the Garden
- 29:01of Eden. We'll end on. 24 So he drove out
- 29:06the man, and he placed at the east of the Garden of Eden
- 29:10cherubims and a flaming sword which turned every way to keep
- 29:14the way of the Tree of life. We will have access to this Tree
- 29:18of life, friends. It will be there with us in the
- 29:20New Jerusalem, and we look forward to that day.
- 29:28And you can see here that the Garden of Eden was a literal
- 29:34geographical place on planet Earth, and through the
- 29:38catastrophic destruction of the flood, it was covered over and
- 29:45disappeared. And we can only try to figure
- 29:49out where it was. But we do know that the New
- 29:51Jerusalem comes down to a new Earth that's made new friends
- 29:58and sits upon this earth. And the gates will never be
- 30:05closed, and it will be the garden restored, but so much
- 30:09better. And we'll get access to this
- 30:11tree of life. And we know that the Lord enters
- 30:16in to the Millennial Temple through the Eastgate.
- 30:21There's so much here, friends, that we could spend a lifetime
- 30:25studying this one chapter. But God gave us the gospel of
- 30:31the Lord Jesus Christ all the way back here in the 3rd chapter
- 30:35of Genesis. I hope you've been blessed by
- 30:38the Gospel of the Lord spoken of in Genesis.
- 30:43I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 30:46of you. I love you and we'll see you
- 30:52back here tomorrow. God bless you.
