- 0:48Speaker 1: Welcome to today's edition of Reflection on the Word with Richard K.
- 0:52Speaker 1: I'm Chuck Christie, and today we are asking you to
- 0:54Speaker 1: spend a few moments of your time with us each
- 0:57Speaker 1: day as Richard shares from God's work with notes, quotes,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and stories, along with some of his own personal experiences,
- 1:03Speaker 1: to confirm for you God's great love for us, that
- 1:06Speaker 1: his compassion for us never fails, and that He has
- 1:08Speaker 1: a great faithfulness toward us in every regard. In Lamentations,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Chapter three, verses twenty two and twenty three, we read,
- 1:16Speaker 1: because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed,
- 1:20Speaker 1: for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.
- 1:24Speaker 1: Great is your faithfulness. Now, if you miss a portion
- 1:27Speaker 1: of today's broadcast or would like to recommend it to
- 1:29Speaker 1: a friend, you can hear this program anytime online at
- 1:33Speaker 1: Talknetwork Radio dot com. Well, now here's Richard with today's reflection.
- 1:40Speaker 2: In the evening of the first day of the week,
- 1:44Speaker 2: the disciples were gathered together with the door's locked because
- 1:48Speaker 2: of their fear of the Jews. Then Jesus King stood
- 1:53Speaker 2: among them and said to them, peace to you. Having
- 1:59Speaker 2: said this, he showed them his hands and his side,
- 2:03Speaker 2: so The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus
- 2:08Speaker 2: said to them again, peace to you. As the Father
- 2:13Speaker 2: has sent me, I also send you. After saying this,
- 2:19Speaker 2: he breathed on them and said, received the Holy Spirit.
- 2:26Speaker 2: If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them.
- 2:30Speaker 2: If you retain the sins of any, they are retained.
- 2:36Speaker 2: John Chapter twenty, verses nineteen through twenty three. As we
- 2:44Speaker 2: continue in our series the Seven Keys to Christian Living,
- 2:50Speaker 2: we have already come to understand that the principles that
- 2:57Speaker 2: are applied in THEA X Keys or the X keys
- 3:03Speaker 2: first exalting God's names, second expecting God's grace, thirdly expressing
- 3:12Speaker 2: God's love, and now the action that changes the world,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the forgiveness of sin. You see in this particular passage
- 3:29Speaker 2: unlike any other area that has been applied in scripture.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Jesus says to his followers, this is who I am,
- 3:44Speaker 2: because he shows them his hands and his side. Why
- 3:49Speaker 2: would he do that? Because they were gathered in this room,
- 3:55Speaker 2: locked in fear that they were going to be next
- 4:01Speaker 2: to be executed for following him. Jesus knew this, and
- 4:08Speaker 2: he knew they needed a peace that was greater than
- 4:13Speaker 2: anything that circumstances could provide. And so he said to
- 4:20Speaker 2: them peace, I give you as the Father has sent me,
- 4:29Speaker 2: I also send you. Now that is a very strong statement,
- 4:39Speaker 2: as the Father has sent me, Jesus said, so I
- 4:45Speaker 2: am sending you. Did that not mean that because the
- 4:51Speaker 2: Father sent Jesus to die on a cross to pay
- 4:57Speaker 2: the price for the sins of all man? Did that
- 5:02Speaker 2: not mean that that was also going to be expected
- 5:08Speaker 2: of many of his followers? It did, And so the
- 5:16Speaker 2: empowerment of the Holy Spirit was vital to them being
- 5:24Speaker 2: able to continue the work that God sent Jesus to
- 5:33Speaker 2: teach them to do, to use the keys to the
- 5:40Speaker 2: Kingdom of Heaven, and to demonstrate that wherever he sent them.
- 5:50Speaker 2: You see in this passage Jesus says the very same
- 5:58Speaker 2: thing that he was actually executed for. What was the
- 6:09Speaker 2: reason that they were so upset with Jesus? Because Jesus
- 6:18Speaker 2: said he had the power to forgive sin? And what
- 6:27Speaker 2: was it that the Pharisees said to him, no one
- 6:31Speaker 2: but God has that power. So they didn't recognize that
- 6:38Speaker 2: Jesus was God in the flesh standing before them, and
- 6:45Speaker 2: he truly had and has continually the power to forgive sin.
- 6:56Speaker 2: But now this becomes more of a directive. You see,
- 7:04Speaker 2: he breathes on his followers and he says to them,
- 7:10Speaker 2: I'm giving you the peace that my father gave me.
- 7:14Speaker 2: This is the peace that would transcend all the circumstances
- 7:19Speaker 2: that the world could bring. It was the peace that
- 7:23Speaker 2: would allow him to go to the cross and not
- 7:28Speaker 2: hold the sins of those who actually crucified him to
- 7:36Speaker 2: their charge. Some of his last words from the cross was, Father,
- 7:47Speaker 2: forgive them, for they know not what they do. And
- 7:55Speaker 2: now Jesus is preparing his followers to be able to
- 8:01Speaker 2: extend that same forgiveness. He did that by proclaiming to
- 8:10Speaker 2: them that he breathed on them and the Holy Spirit
- 8:21Speaker 2: empowered them to do his works. You see, Jesus needed
- 8:31Speaker 2: to allow us to come into the understanding of what
- 8:39Speaker 2: the enemy had done. You see, the enemy accuses constantly
- 8:47Speaker 2: all sinners. What does he do? He reminds us constantly
- 8:54Speaker 2: of what we have done and how unworthy we are
- 9:00Speaker 2: to be able to expect anything from God. And yet
- 9:08Speaker 2: God demonstrates his love for us by placing his only
- 9:16Speaker 2: son on the cross of Calvary to pay the price
- 9:22Speaker 2: for our sin and In so doing, he renders forgiveness
- 9:29Speaker 2: to all who receive him. This is a critical point
- 9:38Speaker 2: in understanding and using the keys to the kingdom. You see,
- 9:46Speaker 2: there's one thing to comprehend that God is holy. There
- 9:53Speaker 2: is still another thing to understand or be begin to
- 10:00Speaker 2: comprehend his grace. There is the expression of God's love
- 10:07Speaker 2: demonstrated by his sacrificial death on the cross, and then
- 10:16Speaker 2: because of that, the power to forgive sins. You see,
- 10:23Speaker 2: we no longer have to go through a confessional and
- 10:29Speaker 2: have some man say that this is what you need
- 10:34Speaker 2: to do to gain forgiveness. God has already made the
- 10:40Speaker 2: way for forgiveness for those of us that have received him.
- 10:47Speaker 2: We have, because of his commissioning, the authority and power
- 10:53Speaker 2: in his name to forgive the sins of others. Ritical
- 11:01Speaker 2: in understanding what we are to do to expand the
- 11:07Speaker 2: Kingdom of God here on this earth, you see, the
- 11:12Speaker 2: proof of this is that when we pray and we
- 11:17Speaker 2: ask God to bring heaven to earth, there is no
- 11:24Speaker 2: sin in heaven. If He brings heaven to earth, he's
- 11:30Speaker 2: bringing the forgiveness that cleanses us of all sin. We
- 11:37Speaker 2: are to convey that message that God has provided the means,
- 11:43Speaker 2: by His grace, not our works, so that others can
- 11:49Speaker 2: receive forgiveness. If you realize you have, by God's authority,
- 11:58Speaker 2: the power here on earth to forgive sin, think about
- 12:07Speaker 2: what it means for others who are locked in sin. Remember,
- 12:14Speaker 2: you're using the keys to the kingdom to release those who,
- 12:22Speaker 2: just as we were, are sinners locked in sin, who
- 12:29Speaker 2: need to be unlocked, unbound so that they can receive
- 12:38Speaker 2: the Kingdom of heaven. How do we demonstrate that? We
- 12:47Speaker 2: do it by being obedient to show that others sin
- 12:55Speaker 2: can be removed. And when we confront that, we should
- 13:01Speaker 2: always say to others, your sins have been forgiven because
- 13:11Speaker 2: of the sacrificial work done on the cross of Calgary.
- 13:18Speaker 2: We convey to them the good news what is called
- 13:24Speaker 2: the Gospel, because we know the forgiveness of sins, and
- 13:31Speaker 2: because we know that we can use the key to
- 13:37Speaker 2: release others who are locked in sins bondage.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Richard will be right back in a moment to wrap up.
- 13:46Speaker 1: But if you've just joined us, you've been listening to

- 14:23Speaker 1: and printed by Discovery House Publishers. Again, here is Richard
- 14:27Speaker 1: to wrap up today's message.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Remember you have been given the authority. As God sent
- 14:39Speaker 2: his son into the world, he forgave sin because of
- 14:47Speaker 2: what is love demonstrated on the cross. Can we do
- 14:54Speaker 2: any less? We are the ones that he a peace to.
- 15:02Speaker 2: As the Father has sent me, I also have sinned you.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And after saying this, breathing on them and saying, receive
- 15:18Speaker 2: the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any,
- 15:23Speaker 2: they are forgiven them. If you retain the sins of any,
- 15:31Speaker 2: they are retained. It does not limit God's capacity to forgive,
- 15:40Speaker 2: but it increases yours. As a believer. Learn how to
- 15:49Speaker 2: use the key of forgiveness. Of sin and that is
- 15:58Speaker 2: today's on the Word.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Thank you Richard. Join us again tomorrow when we continue
