- 0:04Line car accident. You need Rama's law, medical doctor and attorney ramas lot
- 0:09dot com, jeft Legwallet espn dot com. What's up, Leg? Good
- 0:15morning, Hey, Jeffrey. The further we get on here, it just
- 0:19appears the Broncos are taking their own sweet time finding anybody else to be a
- 0:24quarterback on their roster. Now, maybe they have some grand plan to the
- 0:27draft or whatever, but this looks like Jared Stidham City Baby, at least
- 0:32for the time being. But they are just chilling out when it comes to
- 0:35a QB. Are they not? Well? Most you know, I know
- 0:40again people accuse me of being the party crasher and and all of that,
- 0:44but that's I tried to warn people there. They were in a tight box,
- 0:50you know, the minute they they made the decision to release Russell and
- 0:55their ability to move around was gonna be limited. I mean there, they
- 1:00can't really move up, really, uh they don't. They don't have the
- 1:06firepower other people do, and there might be only one or two teams interested
- 1:12U and even thinking about that, you know, everybody's looking at Arizona and
- 1:17possibly the Chargers in that window there for the move up teams and you know,
- 1:22moving back they can do. But there's a lot of teams interested in
- 1:25doing that as well. So and when they sat out free agency, they
- 1:32were they were sort of letting everybody know because a lot of these What told
- 1:37me was a lot of these veteran quarterbacks were signing for backup jobs when they
- 1:42would have had a chance to compete for a starting job. And I don't
- 1:47know anybody I've ever met in my thirty seven years who played quarterback in the
- 1:53NFL who didn't want to compete for a starting job. So you started,
- 1:59what's that? I didn't know you were thirty seven? Go on? Oh
- 2:02yeah, I wish I was this shirt. No. When these guys were
- 2:10signing for backup jobs, the league was telling you the Broncos were sitting it
- 2:15out. Well, you know what's funny, Leggy, is it it's becoming
- 2:21more and more apparent to me that the Broncos, just at least with that
- 2:24first round pick, aren't getting a QB. That's just the way it feels
- 2:29right now. So I'm like, Okay, so you have the number twelve
- 2:31overall pick. What does that look like. I looked to the last twenty
- 2:34years of the number twelve overall pick, and in the last twenty I picked
- 2:38up maybe four guys that I would say didn't live up to that billing.
- 2:43You got names like Vitavea and Fletcher Cox and Marshawn Lynch and Hellodi Nada and
- 2:47Nodell Beckham Junior just the last three years was Jamiir Gibbs, Jamison Williams,
- 2:52and Micah Parsons. I'm like, this is an enviable spot to be to
- 2:55find somebody who's like you consider a franchise piece. Again, I take a
- 3:00lot of craft for saying it, but if you stay there, you're getting
- 3:05one of the best players in the draft. Everybody else up in front of
- 3:08you is going quarterback crazy. I'm gonna keep saying it because it's true.
- 3:15I had not This was, frankly the lead in it will be the lead
- 3:20in to my top one hundred. But I did not have a single scout
- 3:23or GM tell me during this college football season that this was the best quarterback
- 3:30class they'd ever seen. Yet we're all acting like it's gonna get drafted like
- 3:35the best quarterback class we've ever seen. And it's either gonna happen that way
- 3:42and be a stunner, or the reset will take place. When teams are
- 3:46actually making the picks. But this is not the best quarterback class ever,
- 3:52and if five quarterbacks go in the top twelve, it will be drafted like
- 3:57one of the best quarterback classes ever. And that's my issue with all of
- 4:00this. Yes, they need a quarterback, but you can't just take one
- 4:05who isn't good enough at twelve. How legit, leggy are these whispers we
- 4:11continue to hear about Dak Prescott and Sean Payton making a deal happen in Denver.
- 4:18Well, the Cowboys have done this to themselves. I mean, there
- 4:23are people I know in the league who think the Cowboys are going to take
- 4:26a quarterback in this draft. So if they do that, then you know
- 4:31they've let Prescott go all the way to the end of this deal. You
- 4:36know, they they've put themselves in this part of the rumor mill, and
- 4:41until they do something with Dak, I think he is in play in some
- 4:46fashion. If the Broncos, you know, that would sort of look like
- 4:51a Russ redo. Yeah, I was just going to see that. This
- 4:56time it would be Sean Payton's version, you know, Okay, I want
- 4:59to do it, you know type of thing. I let you guys do
- 5:01it now. I want to do it, so Jeff, Why But why
- 5:03am I so torn on Dak? I think he's good. I think he's
- 5:08a good quarterback, but I don't know if he's I mean, he had
- 5:12thirty six touches last year for forty five hundred plus yards. That's flipping awesome.
- 5:16And then they lost. But the why can't I? Yeah, But
- 5:18then why can't I? Why can't I get all jected up about him?
- 5:21Man? Well, you've got to decide how you're going to look at quarterbacks
- 5:28in the modern era. And you know, a lot of people, I
- 5:30know, if a quarterback hasn't won a Super Bowl, he stinks and that's
- 5:34just how they feel about it. You know, he's not good enough when
- 5:39there are so many other things that have to happen for guys to win Super
- 5:43Bowls. I mean, Peyton Manning waited years and years and years and years
- 5:46to win a Super Bowl. He didn't win until six, you know,
- 5:51eight, I mean whatever it was. I mean, he waited. Uh.
- 5:57You know, Dan fous is in the Hall of Fame number one one.
- 6:00You know there's guys in gold jackets never won Super Bowl. And that's
- 6:04it's more about how we discuss quarterbacks. If you just think everybody who didn't
- 6:11win a Super Bowl stinks, you're not going to be excited about guys who
- 6:15didn't win them. But uh, it's hard to find him. We've never
- 6:19seen the desperation level at quarterbacks higher, I don't think. And that's why
- 6:25it always feels like turmoil all around the NFL. Uh for all the teams
- 6:32who can't figure out how to deal with the fact that Patrick Mahomes is twenty
- 6:36eight years old. Leggy, I'm going to give you five names. Let's
- 6:42say a huge quarterback run happens. I'm going to give you five names of
- 6:45players I want you to rank one through five. Who you would draft first
- 6:48to last out of these five Roma Mitchell rock Bowers, Jared Verse, or
- 6:55Flaga the State. Uh At. I would have to be honest and tell
- 7:01you where I have them graded. Uh it would be Browurs or Donsday one
- 7:05too for me. Okay, are you done? By the way, are
- 7:09you done with your top hundred? I have turned it in, which is
- 7:13always a nervous exercise. Wait wait, wait, look, you guys know
- 7:19you've seen me do this. I'm gonna take so much craft because I put
- 7:23the quarterbacks where they belong. Yeah, you're right, but you're right.
- 7:26But so wait, wait, wait, so I know this is I'm just
- 7:29gonna remind everybody I've had CJ. Stroud as QB one last year and I'm
- 7:33not letting that go. Yeah, yeah, yes, Now, Leggy,
- 7:36I remember I've done this with you the last couple of years. Now that
- 7:39this is official, I know it doesn't get released until like the week of
- 7:43the draft, right early that week the twentieth. It will run on the
- 7:46morning of the twentieth. Okay, so I get please please address your concerns
- 7:49at that point. I get today, and I get next Thursday to play
- 7:54a game with you that I like to play, which I ask you a
- 7:57number. Wait, towards the back end of the top one hundred. Can
- 7:59I do that with you again? This year? You get two? You're
- 8:03not getting that. That's fine. One today, one next week, and
- 8:07these will be beyond fifty. Okay, But I'm just gonna say, I'm
- 8:11gonna give you a number. You tell me who's there? Okay, yeah,
- 8:16sixty seven? How would you pick? Sixty seven? Trade running back
- 8:22Florida State? There you go? See? All right, juice, dude,
- 8:24what I told him I can't do above fifty. Maybe next week we
- 8:28do like fifty two and let you. When I was in school, above
- 8:31sixty, hey, we sign your checks. He like you. When I
- 8:37was in school, you keep them money. I like it. I was
- 8:43in school whatever I had to do, like the big term papers and all
- 8:46that kind of stuff. That day I turned it Into'm like, oh,
- 8:50thank god, I got this crap out of my face and I don't have
- 8:54to work on it anymore. But that's why I probably could never go back
- 8:56to school. It just kill me. Do you feel the same way after
- 9:00you've done all your your entire list? Do it feel like, oh,
- 9:03just deep breath time? Or what? Well? I mean, I I
- 9:07reviewed five and eighty players to do this thing, and I don't know I'm
- 9:11a moron to do it. Nobody else would, even you know, I
- 9:16got a job, you know. Uh, this is kind of like a
- 9:20side hustle. So I don't know how many hours does this take? How
- 9:22many like if you had to put it together, how many hours do you
- 9:24think it takes to put this top on it? I don't even want to
- 9:28know, because then I would be the dumbest team of being alive. In
- 9:33Well, you know what, it takes people like you to dig into it
- 9:35because otherwise there's no content. Without you, we have no content. What
- 9:39about you were useless? Where else would I know like that Trey Benson's the
- 9:41sixty seventh best player in the draft? I would have no idea to me?
- 9:45To me is you know like you know? And I take it for
- 9:48what it is. I mean a lot of people think, you know,
- 9:50you're just some guy who covers the Broncos. Why should I give a crap
- 9:54what you think about the draft? But uh no, on the best scouts
- 9:58who one of the best scouts whoever lived is the guy who taught me all
- 10:01this, you know, almost forty years ago. So I really owe it
- 10:05to Sea Obricado that he is one of the best NFL scouts who ever walked
- 10:11the earth, and he should be in the Hall of Fame. And and
- 10:13it's actually interesting because Scott De Stefano, a Broncos scout, actually won the
- 10:20Seaobricado Lifetime Achievement Award this year for his work in scouting. And Scott,
- 10:30I'm pretty certain is the longest tenured scout in the NFL right now, and
- 10:37he works for the Broncos. Well, I'll leave you with this like,
- 10:39because it's turned into more than just a cottage industry, this draft analysis and
- 10:45boards and top one hundred. I don't say it very often, Vic,
- 10:48but I was one of the first at a newspapers. Well, I know
- 10:52you were, I know you were, But let me ask your opinion on
- 10:54this true or false. There are just too many mock drafts. It's just
- 10:56jumped the shark. Now well that the issue is they people complain about them
- 11:01all the time, but they are one of the best traffic ice there in
- 11:05the internet world. They always get traffic. That's why people do them.
- 11:11Uh but yeah, that and just in the in the in the glass offices,
- 11:16in the in all of the digital media companies, a mock draft is
- 11:22money. Well, they get traffic here because DMAT goes through every single one
- 11:26from twelve to three every single day, and there's like eight of them on
- 11:28there that they go through. And I agree with you, there's just too
- 11:31many, and I don't know why people do them. Our second pick of
- 11:33our mock draft comes at nine o'clock this morning, by the way, so
- 11:37stay tuned for that. Uh, Jeff, you're the absolute basket talking to
- 11:41you about it. Thanks, No, let's have a good day. Jeff
- 11:43like well at ESPN dot com. Back to the nuggets when we return.
- 11:48I know we got the flash, but what was bigger? Was it Yokich's
- 11:52performance or was it the spurt that we got late from Christian Brown. We'll
- 11:56get to it next. You've got more master's ting off in ten minutes.
- 12:13We will keep you up to day in all the scores throughout the course of
- 12:16the show. You know that feeling you get, ye
