- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to a d M podcast.
- 0:03Speaker 2: We'll try to keep it as nice as we can,
- 0:05Speaker 2: but you might hear the occasional swear word in No Dribble.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Don't tell Mom.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Hello, and welcome to No Dribble, the podcast where we
- 0:22Speaker 2: talk about netball and oh my god, what an exciting
- 0:24Speaker 2: netball week it is, but we also talk about a
- 0:25Speaker 2: whole lot of other stuff. My name is Carolyn Swindel.
- 0:28Speaker 2: I am joined as always by two very good friends
- 0:31Speaker 2: of mine.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Catherine Cox, who got wordle in three this morning.
- 0:35Speaker 5: Oh no way, Alice, who got word all in four.
- 0:40Speaker 1: But I got strands without a hint.
- 0:42Speaker 4: Strands.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I love strands.
- 0:44Speaker 4: What strands?
- 0:45Speaker 1: Oh my goodness.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Strands is like word all but for really smart people.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Oh no, it's the word search thing. But you don't.
- 0:52Speaker 2: There's a theme.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Strands spelt as it should be spelt. Has I've got
- 0:56Speaker 4: a funky z or something at the end.
- 0:58Speaker 5: No, No, that's how should be fair. And you're find
- 1:00Speaker 5: it on the New York Times. Ami, do you use
- 1:02Speaker 5: the app for wood?
- 1:03Speaker 6: No?
- 1:03Speaker 2: I use the app because there's all these other free games.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I like Connections the best.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Oh I don't, because I'm addicted to word or so
- 1:11Speaker 4: now you're going to read.
- 1:12Speaker 2: This is great because word as it's over so quickly,
- 1:14Speaker 2: and then you've got to wait until the next day.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And you've got a few of these little ones that
- 1:18Speaker 2: you only get one shot at. So if you have
- 1:20Speaker 2: an addictive personality type, as I do, you can't sit
- 1:22Speaker 2: there for nine hours trying to get a better result.
- 1:27Speaker 2: It doesn't come up until the next day. But it's
- 1:29Speaker 2: several games.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Oh okay, come on it. My sister got wordle in
- 1:33Speaker 4: three this morning as well, and the first word of
- 1:35Speaker 4: choice was penis nice. There's a great five little word
- 1:39Speaker 4: to kick you off.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I usually go with one that has three veils, so go,
- 1:43Speaker 2: which is CPR yeah, and.
- 1:47Speaker 4: It's got so yeah. That's a good one. I go
- 1:49Speaker 4: with reads okay, yeah, it's got good common letters in it, Elizabeth.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I go with sport, which is useless, but I.
- 1:57Speaker 2: Like it, pno yours yeah yeah, or piano.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Good ones.
- 2:04Speaker 2: I also would like to recommend quordal and octurtle. Octurtle
- 2:08Speaker 2: is fun to say because you get to say turd too,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but it's four wordles at once, and octurtle is eight.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's so good, goodness, it's so good. Where is this
- 2:17Speaker 2: I don't know. I just write quadal and it comes
- 2:20Speaker 2: up right.
- 2:21Speaker 4: I'm just I'm just googling all of this.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But to start off with Catherine, get the New York
- 2:26Speaker 1: Times out.
- 2:27Speaker 5: The only thing is Karen said that if you're going
- 2:29Speaker 5: an addictive personality, you can't sit in it. If you subscribe,
- 2:32Speaker 5: then you can. I have resisted the temptation to subscribe.
- 2:35Speaker 5: But it's good and I actually get them. Like you
- 2:38Speaker 5: know how it says share your results. I share mine
- 2:40Speaker 5: with my sixteen year old niece, and it's how we
- 2:42Speaker 5: have conversations by sharing our wordline strands and connections results.
- 2:47Speaker 4: Oh that's nice, that is good.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I I communicate with my son, who I live in
- 2:52Speaker 2: the same house with. That's where you're seending messages on
- 2:55Speaker 2: Instagram of things that we've seen that are funny.
- 2:57Speaker 4: So what about dinner time?
- 3:00Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're still we sit down for dinner.
- 3:02Speaker 4: But I know about how do you communicate Lewis at
- 3:04Speaker 4: stinner time? Do you have to text him? No?
- 3:06Speaker 2: I walk up the hallway. Sometimes he pretends that he
- 3:09Speaker 2: doesn't have his phone in his hand. It's like, yeah, niss,
- 3:14Speaker 2: speaking of your niece, did you watch her play on
- 3:16Speaker 2: the weekend? Is that right?
- 3:18Speaker 1: I did. Yeah.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Monday's Friday, she played in the Division one Grand Final
- 3:22Speaker 5: in Baliner and I went down to watch.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Now.
- 3:25Speaker 5: As soon as I saw both teams warming up, Bridy's
- 3:27Speaker 5: team is all sort of fifteen sixteen seventeen, and the
- 3:31Speaker 5: team they were playing against more experienced veterans. And you
- 3:35Speaker 5: know when you look at two teams and you go,
- 3:37Speaker 5: this young team is going to get murdered because the
- 3:39Speaker 5: elder women. You can just say that we was smarter
- 3:42Speaker 5: and they were just and they did exactly what you'd
- 3:44Speaker 5: do if you were playing youngsters.
- 3:45Speaker 1: You know, a bit of a push here, a bit
- 3:47Speaker 1: of a shove there.
- 3:47Speaker 2: A bit of a niggle, be able to afford a
- 3:50Speaker 2: house ye.
- 3:53Speaker 4: Kick them.
- 3:56Speaker 5: I don't know there was too much lip going on,
- 3:58Speaker 5: but that would be a good sledge. I was watching
- 4:01Speaker 5: it and I thought, oh, Brighty's team needs is like.
- 4:03Speaker 1: An old head.
- 4:05Speaker 5: I wonder if I could pull on the books next
- 4:07Speaker 5: year and I haven't run around, and actually I started
- 4:09Speaker 5: to think about whether I could play again.
- 4:10Speaker 4: How funny that you looked at those two teams and
- 4:13Speaker 4: you thought the elderly late or the old. Well, as
- 4:18Speaker 4: soon as I said that, I realized it came out wrong.
- 4:20Speaker 4: The older ladies would be better because I would have
- 4:23Speaker 4: one hundred percent put my money on the youngsters because I.
- 4:26Speaker 5: Used to get my ass handed to me when I
- 4:28Speaker 5: was a kid at Hawkesbury by a team who were
- 4:31Speaker 5: just older women, and they just they're so smart, right,
- 4:34Speaker 5: they know how to use their butts and their bodies
- 4:36Speaker 5: to sort of push you off balance. And you know,
- 4:38Speaker 5: you're young and you're enthusiastic, but it's just that level
- 4:41Speaker 5: of experience, and you could just see the younger team
- 4:44Speaker 5: just falling a little bit of a hole, and you know,
- 4:47Speaker 5: and the older team they weren't that much older. That
- 4:49Speaker 5: was sort of anywhere from sort of I don't want
- 4:51Speaker 5: to guess their ages. They went old. They just went seventeen.
- 4:54Speaker 5: But my son were in the back of the car
- 4:56Speaker 5: and he goes, mum, one of those ladies in that team,
- 4:59Speaker 5: I reckon she.
- 4:59Speaker 4: Was, oh God.
- 5:04Speaker 5: I was like, dude, you have so much to learn about.
- 5:07Speaker 5: But yeah, but I was sad for Brides. But the
- 5:09Speaker 5: team that won, they've been trying to win the Division
- 5:12Speaker 5: One Grand Final for years, so I was really excited
- 5:14Speaker 5: for them.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Two.
- 5:14Speaker 5: It was so much fun, Like sitting in the sunshine
- 5:17Speaker 5: on a Saturday afternoon. There was like people were three
- 5:19Speaker 5: and four deep all the way around the court.
- 5:21Speaker 1: It was just it was great. Yeah, I loved it.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It was great fun.
- 5:24Speaker 5: And one of the dads in Bridy's team, anyone who
- 5:27Speaker 5: went to State Chance would have seen and heard him.
- 5:29Speaker 5: He comes dressed up in like a blue wig and
- 5:31Speaker 5: a blue superhero and he's got a Harley right up
- 5:33Speaker 5: before the game and it's like, yeah, go all Saints,
- 5:36Speaker 5: and it was it was funny, go lightning bolts. It
- 5:38Speaker 5: was fun. It's a fun afternoon. So but yeah, Bride's lost.
- 5:42Speaker 5: But the other thing that I have to report, I
- 5:43Speaker 5: spent a weekend watching sports grand final. My little girl
- 5:47Speaker 5: who lost her semi final last week won a grand
- 5:50Speaker 5: final on Friday night.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Yeah. Really exciting. Yeah, her first ever grand final win.
- 5:55Speaker 1: How you ask? Well, it wasn't netball?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Oh my, she cheating on our sport with another sport.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Oh in a team for the boys. She's the only
- 6:05Speaker 5: girl in the under thirteens Lenox.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Oh she's already won them.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Oh fantastic. She was sorry rugby union?
- 6:12Speaker 1: Did you say rugby union?
- 6:13Speaker 5: So they won their grand final on Friday night, which
- 6:16Speaker 5: was so exciting. I was so nervous and like the
- 6:19Speaker 5: whole game, I felt sick and I was.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Like rocking forwards and backwards. Just I said to my mum,
- 6:24Speaker 1: who was there. Mom, I'm so sorry what I did
- 6:26Speaker 1: to you all these years.
- 6:27Speaker 5: Like it must be awful to be the parent of
- 6:29Speaker 5: an athlete who's playing at like a senior level anything,
- 6:33Speaker 5: because I was. I felt sick all day Friday, and
- 6:36Speaker 5: then so nervous watching the game.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And it was the under thirteens.
- 6:39Speaker 4: And legitimately she's the only girl.
- 6:41Speaker 1: She's the only girl. They were the team.
- 6:43Speaker 5: They were playing against another girl as well, and like
- 6:46Speaker 5: I was so proud of her. She didn't know a
- 6:48Speaker 5: soul in this team at the start of the year,
- 6:50Speaker 5: but desperately wanted to play rugby. We tried to get
- 6:53Speaker 5: into a girl's team, but there wasn't enough girls in
- 6:55Speaker 5: her age group, so we went and asked if the
- 6:58Speaker 5: boys team had a spot, and they did, and the
- 7:00Speaker 5: coach was fantastic, just a lovely bloke. The boys are
- 7:03Speaker 5: all really respectful of her.
- 7:05Speaker 4: So what age will that change for her?
- 7:07Speaker 5: She can play, she can play next she and then
- 7:10Speaker 5: with girls with boys, so she can play in the
- 7:13Speaker 5: under fourteens, but then that's it. And as we were
- 7:15Speaker 5: leaving the under fifteenth Grand Final and I'm like, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 5: she's not playing in that age group because they are men. Yeah,
- 7:20Speaker 5: because you know, she's a big, strong kid. So she
- 7:22Speaker 5: holds her own. She actually she plays in the backs,
- 7:25Speaker 5: but she holds her own and she played really.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Well, you know, do they get trophy still? She had
- 7:31Speaker 1: a medal?
- 7:32Speaker 4: Okay, do trophy still exist at netball juniors and stuff
- 7:35Speaker 4: like that.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you have to win them once you get to
- 7:37Speaker 2: under ten. So my daughter was horrified because it's so well,
- 7:40Speaker 2: don't we just get our participation trophy? No, now you
- 7:43Speaker 2: have to actually win it if you want a trophy.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Well, that makes sense, doesn't it.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I just you know, here's a trophy for having played netball.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I think it's really smart because it's like you're a
- 7:54Speaker 2: drug dealer and you give someone their first hit. It's
- 7:56Speaker 2: like they're early to the sport. Give them trophies. They
- 7:58Speaker 2: love it. They've got clothing in their room. They want
- 8:01Speaker 2: to get more trophies, they want to get medals. They
- 8:02Speaker 2: display it and so and then after a while it's like, okay,
- 8:05Speaker 2: you're under elevens now now you actually need to win
- 8:07Speaker 2: this thing.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Have either of you got any junior trophies?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 8:11Speaker 4: No, anywhere.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I might have a swimming one somewhere. I don't know
- 8:15Speaker 2: you kept I've got. I've got my grand Final indoor
- 8:19Speaker 2: netbool trophy from when I was in my twenties.
- 8:22Speaker 4: Have you where is it? Pride of Place?
- 8:25Speaker 2: I think I used it in our original photo shoot
- 8:27Speaker 2: for the podcast. Oh yes, you guys had your World
- 8:30Speaker 2: Cup medals and your Comwealth Game medals, So I brought
- 8:33Speaker 2: my top end indoor sports Sunday afternoon mixed netball compal.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Winners as you should. Do you have any trophies left, Catherine,
- 8:43Speaker 1: I would.
- 8:43Speaker 2: Never no, long gone.
- 8:46Speaker 4: I kn't even think when I would have got rid
- 8:47Speaker 4: of them.
- 8:48Speaker 2: All My medals are in that box there, so under
- 8:51Speaker 2: your ASOS returns, Yeah.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Exactly, medals.
- 8:55Speaker 4: I've got trophies, they were long gone. Did Madge keep
- 8:58Speaker 4: any Yeah?
- 9:01Speaker 5: No no, because when you grew up and moved house,
- 9:03Speaker 5: I was like, no, I can't be bother taking these.
- 9:04Speaker 5: So no, all I've got his memories and they're fading fast,
- 9:07Speaker 5: obviouseas I'll get older. But no, so everyone's got a medal,
- 9:10Speaker 5: But I am. I'm a big cut actually, Like I
- 9:12Speaker 5: love her playing other sports, but I am a bit
- 9:14Speaker 5: cut that her first grand finally wasn't in netball.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Yeah, it did hurt my heart. I don't know what
- 9:19Speaker 1: to do about it.
- 9:20Speaker 4: Well, she's a winner, so that's a good thing. You
- 9:22Speaker 4: can feel good about that.
- 9:23Speaker 2: But I have sympathy for you here that like, as
- 9:27Speaker 2: someone who has been to the top of a sport
- 9:29Speaker 2: that you love and now you are actually the top
- 9:32Speaker 2: of the sport on the other side of the equation,
- 9:35Speaker 2: that it's like, Okay, maybe you're going to go in
- 9:39Speaker 2: a different direction. I think that's hard.
- 9:41Speaker 5: Well, that's obviously a fight that my husband and I
- 9:43Speaker 5: will have to take to the car park because he playing,
- 9:45Speaker 5: you know, for the Warratars, and he's twenty one in
- 9:47Speaker 5: rugby union, so he's a bit chuffed that her first
- 9:50Speaker 5: medal is or her first grand finally is rugby.
- 9:52Speaker 4: What's her take on it? She doesn't care, does she.
- 9:56Speaker 1: She just likes to win.
- 9:57Speaker 5: Yeah, so she's smart, right, She's just say to her father,
- 10:00Speaker 5: he's my favorite sport, and she'll say to me, not netball,
- 10:02Speaker 5: it's my favorite sport.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Nice trophies.
- 10:06Speaker 2: She'll do fine. So Wayne Gretzky, you know, the greatest
- 10:09Speaker 2: ice hockey player of all time. His son played baseball
- 10:13Speaker 2: at a high level. I did, Jannick Noah, the tennis player.
- 10:17Speaker 2: His son played for the Chicago Bulls. And Darryl Strawberry.
- 10:22Speaker 2: I only know about Daryl Strawberry because of the Simpsons,
- 10:24Speaker 2: but he was a baseball player and his son dj
- 10:27Speaker 2: played for the Phoenix Sons. And of course Phil Kerns's
- 10:30Speaker 2: daughter Tilly Kerns has just been in our amazing water
- 10:33Speaker 2: polo team over at the Paras Olympics.
- 10:37Speaker 5: Jason Little's daughters in super netball training squads, I think
- 10:41Speaker 5: in the oh, that's exciting.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Yeah right.
- 10:44Speaker 5: So and my husband played in the same twenty one
- 10:47Speaker 5: team as him, So there he goes.
- 10:49Speaker 2: All my Queensland had on Since you've brought up Jason Little,
- 10:53Speaker 2: so it was it must have been about the ninety
- 10:56Speaker 2: one World Cup, and Jason Little and Tim Horn were
- 11:00Speaker 2: living in the neighborhood that I was living in Brisbane,
- 11:02Speaker 2: so I feel like I have a connection there obviously,
- 11:05Speaker 2: but I want to on behalf of Queenslanders state my
- 11:09Speaker 2: objection to the fact that there's no test in Brisbane
- 11:12Speaker 2: and that there are two in Victoria within like two
- 11:16Speaker 2: hours drive of one another. I feel like, you know,
- 11:18Speaker 2: I feel very happy that there is one in Sydney
- 11:21Speaker 2: that I can go to without getting on an aeroplane.
- 11:23Speaker 2: But I'm outraged for the people of my home state.
- 11:28Speaker 5: People of your homestate probably need to get in contact
- 11:31Speaker 5: with their premiere and say, get in contact with Netball.
- 11:33Speaker 4: Australia and throw some money.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Throw some money at it, right, because that's how major
- 11:38Speaker 5: events are decided now as to where they get held.
- 11:41Speaker 4: And so the two that are in Victoria because of
- 11:43Speaker 4: the Visit Victoria deal.
- 11:47Speaker 1: So there you go. So that's what you've got to
- 11:49Speaker 1: don't get outrage, get active.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Well, I'm just going to get outraged because yeah, and
- 11:57Speaker 2: quite clearly the government of New South Wales has done something.
- 12:00Speaker 2: So but you know, I'm just wanting to be a
- 12:03Speaker 2: voice for the netball lovers of Queensland and I know
- 12:07Speaker 2: many yes.
- 12:08Speaker 5: I would love to have a Test match in Queensland
- 12:10Speaker 5: because then that's a match that I could drive to.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Oh yes, of course Brisbane. So yeah, but I mean
- 12:15Speaker 5: obviously I get no say, sadly.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Are you going to the mall live in your new role.
- 12:21Speaker 5: No, I'm going to some I'm not going this Thursday
- 12:23Speaker 5: night because I was actually booked to work on the
- 12:26Speaker 5: project on Thursday night, so that was a prior thing
- 12:28Speaker 5: that I had. So I'm going to the match on
- 12:32Speaker 5: Sunday in Sydney obviously, because I'm also.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Going to do a little bit of an event before.
- 12:38Speaker 5: How exciting is Yeah, and then I will go to
- 12:42Speaker 5: the match in Perth, the Constellation Cup match in Perth
- 12:45Speaker 5: and the Constellation Cup match in Melbourne.
- 12:47Speaker 4: Oh so we're both on the road in Perth.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Is say, that's contange of written all over it.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Well, just thinking.
- 12:57Speaker 2: We've talked about this for the last three pot carts
- 13:00Speaker 2: in a row and you've gone, oh my god, we're
- 13:02Speaker 2: in Perth act the same time. Really, certainly I have
- 13:04Speaker 2: been present when you two have had this conversation about
- 13:07Speaker 2: being in Perth at the same time. So God, maybe
- 13:10Speaker 2: the brain cells are needing a little little bit of support.
- 13:14Speaker 4: We just get excited if we're anywhere at the same
- 13:16Speaker 4: time because it doesn't happen much. So yeah, it could
- 13:18Speaker 4: have been Sydney.
- 13:20Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to talk about the test soon, but
- 13:22Speaker 2: for many of our listeners who won't get to go
- 13:25Speaker 2: to numerous tests, and I am one of those. I'm
- 13:28Speaker 2: only going to go to the Sydney One. I thought,
- 13:30Speaker 2: how do we celebrate this properly at home? So in
- 13:32Speaker 2: a past life, I used to be a cocktail writer.
- 13:35Speaker 2: So I have got some cocktail suggestions for those of
- 13:38Speaker 2: us who are watching from home. Yes, I have a
- 13:40Speaker 2: Diamonds cocktail and I have two Rows cocktails.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Now I can always pull you up a cocktail writer.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yes, to explain, well, I had a blog called Shakespeare
- 13:48Speaker 2: Muddle and each week I would each fortnight I would
- 13:51Speaker 2: review a different cocktail.
- 13:53Speaker 4: It was awesome the entire time.
- 13:56Speaker 2: Look, it was tough on my liver that period, and
- 13:58Speaker 2: then I stopped doing it. But I became like this
- 14:01Speaker 2: cocktail expert for ABC Radio and every time someone needed
- 14:04Speaker 2: a cocktail ex and that was thanks to Elizabeth Ellis,
- 14:06Speaker 2: who was doing a summer You were doing summer radio stint.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You said, can you come on and talk about cocktails
- 14:12Speaker 2: with a hangover? So we talked about the Bloody Mary.
- 14:15Speaker 2: And then you get put into the database of experts
- 14:18Speaker 2: at the ABC and the periodical. So I had to
- 14:21Speaker 2: do a cocktail segment for when Harry and Meghan got married,
- 14:25Speaker 2: you know. So I'm not a oil wedding commentator. Yes,
- 14:28Speaker 2: thank you for cocktails.
- 14:30Speaker 5: But what I liked about what you did, Carolyn, which
- 14:32Speaker 5: whites spun my wheels, is, as everyone knows, I'm a nerd,
- 14:36Speaker 5: and I'm particularly a history nerd, and so I love
- 14:38Speaker 5: that you wrote, like your blog posts and of it.
- 14:41Speaker 1: And that's why we got you on the radio.
- 14:42Speaker 5: It was because you give a great historical The thing
- 14:44Speaker 5: with cocktails is there's all this history our own cocktails, right,
- 14:48Speaker 5: and Bloody Mary is a particularly interesting, bloodthirsty historical story.
- 14:52Speaker 5: And so like your audio, cocktails, and you don't give
- 14:56Speaker 5: a thought to why they're called what they are and
- 14:59Speaker 5: to where they were van right.
- 15:00Speaker 4: So like a screaming organ why is that called that?
- 15:04Speaker 4: Is there some history to that?
- 15:06Speaker 2: Well, I suspect them, Yeah, you don't spect. I think
- 15:12Speaker 2: that was just the seventies when well, let's get a bit,
- 15:14Speaker 2: you know, slipped and nipples, screaming organism. But I first
- 15:17Speaker 2: got the idea for it when I was at a
- 15:19Speaker 2: hotel in Phoenix, Arizona, and it was at this hotel,
- 15:24Speaker 2: was at the bar, and they said the tequila sunrise
- 15:27Speaker 2: was invented here. And it's contested there's two places that
- 15:29Speaker 2: claim to have invented the tequila Sunrise, but it never
- 15:32Speaker 2: occurred to me that, of course someone invents a cocktail.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So I thought that that's where I became interested in it.
- 15:38Speaker 2: And I'll put together some little recipes that were put
- 15:41Speaker 2: on the social media. So no need to grab a
- 15:43Speaker 2: pen and paper, app, I just want to give some
- 15:45Speaker 2: quick recommendations of diamonds and rose cocktails.
- 15:49Speaker 4: So have you invented these?
- 15:51Speaker 3: No?
- 15:51Speaker 4: Okay, no I have not.
- 15:53Speaker 2: So the first one is called the jack Rose, which
- 15:55Speaker 2: I think you could also if you're watching Titanic you
- 15:58Speaker 2: could pally. There was so much room on that door rose. Anyway,
- 16:02Speaker 2: so he is tell me I'm wrong. So anyway, the
- 16:08Speaker 2: Jack Rose, you'll need Culverdos, which is like an apple
- 16:12Speaker 2: brandy from Normandy, lime juice and grenadine, and it's got
- 16:16Speaker 2: a nice rosy glow. Now this was our first cocktail
- 16:20Speaker 2: that we had last night. Yeah, So Mark Calvados, I
- 16:23Speaker 2: just wanted to do a quick side bar. He and
- 16:25Speaker 2: my mate, his grandfather at sixteen years old. It was
- 16:28Speaker 2: one of the Allies who landed at D Day and
- 16:31Speaker 2: then a couple of days later when they got through
- 16:33Speaker 2: that whole kind of saving Private Ryan opening scene, which
- 16:36Speaker 2: is apparently quite sort of like what it was. He
- 16:40Speaker 2: had a couple of days off, they went into this
- 16:41Speaker 2: small village and the local said, here, have some of
- 16:43Speaker 2: our calvados. And so the first time he ever got
- 16:46Speaker 2: pissed was at sixteen years old, having survived the landing
- 16:50Speaker 2: at Normandy on D Day.
- 16:52Speaker 4: So wow, coo, that is a.
- 16:55Speaker 1: Really cool story and a good enough reason to get drunk.
- 16:58Speaker 2: Underage, that's right, and you know, raised raise a glass. Well,
- 17:01Speaker 2: are you really underage if you've been in a war zone?
- 17:03Speaker 2: I think.
- 17:05Speaker 4: So.
- 17:05Speaker 2: If you're a Roses supporter, you can have a jack
- 17:07Speaker 2: Rose or you can have a strawberry Rose gin fizz.
- 17:10Speaker 2: Now I've all I like the cocktail that I have
- 17:12Speaker 2: for the Diamonds is a Diamond Fizz, So they're quite similar.
- 17:15Speaker 2: So it's gin. You need a rose simple syrup, so
- 17:18Speaker 2: get some rose water and then it's a sugar syrup,
- 17:21Speaker 2: lemon juice, strawberries that you then mash up and get
- 17:25Speaker 2: some juice, pinch of salt and it says soda water,
- 17:27Speaker 2: but I topped it with sparkling wine. So that is
- 17:29Speaker 2: the strawberry rose gin Fizz. Now I really liked it.
- 17:32Speaker 2: I'm not a big rosewater fan, but this was the
- 17:35Speaker 2: strawberry I think balances it. For the diamonds, I'm suggesting
- 17:40Speaker 2: a diamond fizz, which is gin, lemon juice, sugar syrup,
- 17:43Speaker 2: and then top it with a champagne or sparkling wine.
- 17:46Speaker 2: And I think, don't use real champagne to top a cocktail.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Use the cheap sparkling wine for that, and garnish with
- 17:52Speaker 2: a lemon slice. So I want to see dribblers shaking
- 17:56Speaker 2: up some cocktails and enjoying this with me on a
- 18:00Speaker 2: virtual basis.
- 18:02Speaker 4: On Thursday night as you watch the diamonds.
- 18:04Speaker 1: I think that's great.
- 18:05Speaker 5: But I only have one complaint, right, and I really
- 18:07Speaker 5: hope that this is not an omen It's a three
- 18:09Speaker 5: test series and you've given us two roses one diamond.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Maybe one was enough for the diamonds, but you're right,
- 18:18Speaker 2: that is all right.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I'm back to the drawing board.
- 18:21Speaker 2: No, no, I just need to bring another one next week.
- 18:23Speaker 2: How exciting that this time next week it might be
- 18:27Speaker 2: one apiece, could be two wins to the diamond No.
- 18:30Speaker 4: But given the logic, it could be two to the roses.
- 18:33Speaker 4: So you need to come up with one now all right,
- 18:36Speaker 4: just not to be a complete freak about this, but
- 18:41Speaker 4: Diamonds one.
- 18:42Speaker 2: Now, you two need to talk about the game, talk
- 18:46Speaker 2: about some like Netty type stuff, and I'm going to
- 18:49Speaker 2: have one by the end of the episode.
- 18:53Speaker 3: All right.
- 18:53Speaker 1: So the Diamonds would be in camp, Catherine, would they know, Well.
- 18:56Speaker 4: They just finished a week long camp that was in Canberra,
- 18:59Speaker 4: so they're down there doing all the usual. They're doing
- 19:00Speaker 4: the meetings and their weights, and they had lots of
- 19:02Speaker 4: match play. Because I had lunch with Annie sergeants last
- 19:06Speaker 4: week and she was literally about to jump in the
- 19:08Speaker 4: car and head down to Canberra for selection.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And when she did, what did she use to get
- 19:15Speaker 1: her through the entire trip from Sydney to camera?
- 19:17Speaker 4: She binged no dribble from the start because she hadn't
- 19:21Speaker 4: listened to an episode. I was like, oh my god,
- 19:23Speaker 4: you're going to be completely over us the time to.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Get to camera.
- 19:27Speaker 1: I sent her a message and just said, are you okay?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Yeah, she had Well, it was a kaday on Thursday,
- 19:34Speaker 2: so it was probably the right time for you to
- 19:35Speaker 2: do that. Anyway, good time.
- 19:38Speaker 4: She was down there in with selector hat On watching
- 19:41Speaker 4: match play very intently because obviously they've got to pick
- 19:44Speaker 4: a team from this extended team before they head.
- 19:49Speaker 5: Yeah, a team of fifteen, and they'll have to name
- 19:52Speaker 5: a team of twelve. Would they change that team for
- 19:55Speaker 5: each game or were the same twelve run through all
- 19:57Speaker 5: three games?
- 19:58Speaker 4: I do you know what I don't see this is
- 20:00Speaker 4: that's my thing. I'm a bit on the fence about
- 20:02Speaker 4: this because there's a very, very big part of me
- 20:05Speaker 4: that hates the idea of people being given a test cap.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I hate that I sat on the bench, I steal
- 20:11Speaker 4: it for three years, never got played, was in the team,
- 20:15Speaker 4: and you had to earn your right and you had
- 20:17Speaker 4: to bide your time, and you had your starting seven
- 20:20Speaker 4: and they were the ones that are on the court.
- 20:22Speaker 4: But then I also don't understand why you pick people
- 20:26Speaker 4: if you're not going to play them and give them
- 20:28Speaker 4: the experience. And I think, Liz, I don't know, but
- 20:32Speaker 4: given the timing of the cycle, it is the time
- 20:36Speaker 4: to put people on the court and to test them
- 20:38Speaker 4: and see your options, isn't it.
- 20:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 5: And the thing that I have to keep reminding myself
- 20:42Speaker 5: because I know old crotchety Liz goes.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Oh, I should have starting seven and like you should.
- 20:48Speaker 5: And then I go, well, actually the game's changed, and
- 20:50Speaker 5: we're seeing it change now at super NETBWL with continuous subs.
- 20:53Speaker 5: And I suspect at some point, I don't know this obviously,
- 20:56Speaker 5: but I suspect at some point World Netball did the
- 20:58Speaker 5: same allow continue subs and that sort of stuffle, you know,
- 21:01Speaker 5: during play subs. So you know, I do feel like
- 21:04Speaker 5: we sort of have to roll with the times. And
- 21:06Speaker 5: so yeah, of course, and I suspect I don't know
- 21:09Speaker 5: what Stacey Rinkovic is thinking, but she'll be advised by
- 21:12Speaker 5: her select as well, and for her, it's a thing
- 21:15Speaker 5: you've got to balance up. Yeah, you want to keep winning,
- 21:17Speaker 5: and there is an expectation that the Dymonds win, but
- 21:19Speaker 5: you want to see who who steps up. She's got
- 21:22Speaker 5: now three years until the World Cup and or three
- 21:25Speaker 5: international seasons, so what twenty four, twenty five, twenty six
- 21:29Speaker 5: or three international season, She's got to see who stands up,
- 21:32Speaker 5: who she's going to take to the Conwawk Games in
- 21:34Speaker 5: twenty twenty six if Netball's included, and then the World
- 21:37Speaker 5: Cup at home.
- 21:38Speaker 1: So now that this is the year that we go, right,
- 21:41Speaker 1: who's available. So I suspect that's what she'll do.
- 21:45Speaker 4: There have to be a big pool surely to around
- 21:48Speaker 4: venues and who gets played where do you think, because
- 21:51Speaker 4: it would be a travesty not to see Georgie horge
- 21:55Speaker 4: Just on court in Adelaide.
- 21:57Speaker 2: More of a travesty than not having a game at
- 21:59Speaker 2: all in queen.
- 22:00Speaker 4: Land, totally.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I disagree, butirds ticket holders, I'm yeah, well there's no
- 22:09Speaker 2: Queenslanders in the team, so.
- 22:12Speaker 4: No pattern none.
- 22:15Speaker 2: That's embarrassing, doughnuts, there's no Queens Yes.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I think that that can't come into the equation at all.
- 22:25Speaker 4: No, I don't. It doesn't, of course it doesn't. But
- 22:27Speaker 4: it would be awesome to be able to say to
- 22:30Speaker 4: players like Tillie Garrett and Georgie Horges, not Lucy Austin
- 22:35Speaker 4: because she's in the extended squad, but she's been on
- 22:37Speaker 4: the camp and stuff with them, but how good would
- 22:39Speaker 4: that be to be able to have them play, and
- 22:41Speaker 4: particularly Horgees if it's her debut, to be able to
- 22:44Speaker 4: do it in Adelaide. I know that that's not what
- 22:46Speaker 4: will happen, but we can all just cross our fingers.
- 22:50Speaker 1: It would be great.
- 22:51Speaker 2: But surely if there's a line ball on this stuff though,
- 22:54Speaker 2: you go with yep, let's.
- 22:56Speaker 1: See you us would I reckon?
- 22:59Speaker 5: If you're a high performance coach, you try and find
- 23:01Speaker 5: the data to support your decision.
- 23:03Speaker 2: Right, Oh, this is smarter ping pink peak.
- 23:06Speaker 5: This is why none of us are high performance coaches, right,
- 23:09Speaker 5: because we'd be like, oh, well, what of the crab one?
- 23:12Speaker 4: Just one of the reasons. But the beast thing about
- 23:14Speaker 4: this for the Diamonds, of course, is that they've just
- 23:16Speaker 4: finished all of their training. They're now on tour, and
- 23:21Speaker 4: that is that by far the best bit, isn't it
- 23:24Speaker 4: Like you're not training every day, you're not doing all
- 23:26Speaker 4: the boring stuff, but you actually start to get into
- 23:29Speaker 4: the nitty gritty of the games, and you get to
- 23:31Speaker 4: travel around and you do it as a team. And
- 23:33Speaker 4: that's very little bit of the Shenanigans come into it too.
- 23:35Speaker 4: I've got to say, probably not with these guys because
- 23:38Speaker 4: they're so mature. But Liz Ellis she was up for
- 23:40Speaker 4: a Shenanigan or two.
- 23:41Speaker 2: I can help with Shenanigans. I've got another cocktail, just fantastic.
- 23:45Speaker 2: It's called the Diamond. It's equal parts light rum, so
- 23:48Speaker 2: like a bacadi or white rum, equal parts light rum
- 23:51Speaker 2: gin and triple sex. Shake it over ice, serve it
- 23:54Speaker 2: with lemonses. So I have not road tested this one,
- 23:57Speaker 2: but I will do so during the game on Thursday night.
- 24:01Speaker 4: Well you only need one by the sound of that. Yeah,
- 24:03Speaker 4: three three spirits.
- 24:06Speaker 2: Well it is a grown ups game.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Joys us.
- 24:10Speaker 2: If I had that at the start of the game
- 24:12Speaker 2: halftime about yes, because I did the other three cocktails
- 24:17Speaker 2: I did. I tested them all last night, polled them
- 24:19Speaker 2: and it's like by seven o'clock, I'm like, it's a
- 24:22Speaker 2: bedtime yet I'm.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Dinner.
- 24:28Speaker 4: That might be a funny game if I'm in commentary,
- 24:31Speaker 4: maybe every time I say something, everybody's got to make themselves.
- 24:33Speaker 4: A new cocktail.
- 24:37Speaker 2: You could make? Could we set up a secret code word?
- 24:41Speaker 2: I don't want to risk your job, but.
- 24:42Speaker 4: You know I would not that. I'm far too sensible
- 24:46Speaker 4: for that. Elizabeth, do you know how she just kind
- 24:49Speaker 4: of know you got her out of the trouble with
- 24:50Speaker 4: the Shenanigans question Lizellus on tour? What do you reckon?
- 24:53Speaker 1: She got up to?
- 24:54Speaker 4: Do you reckon?
- 24:55Speaker 1: She got much pre test match?
- 24:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I can't imagine that you can play that. Well
- 24:59Speaker 2: if you do, If if you behave in the way
- 25:01Speaker 2: that I've seen you nowhere near a Test match. I'm
- 25:04Speaker 2: pretty sure you wouldn't have played that well. So I
- 25:06Speaker 2: think based on your performance history, you were probably quite
- 25:10Speaker 2: good in the seventy two hours before every Test match.
- 25:14Speaker 1: We're always good.
- 25:15Speaker 5: I mean, Catherine's pulling faces, but we were always good,
- 25:18Speaker 5: like you going to camp and yeah, last.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Week you talked a big talk about that, a week
- 25:22Speaker 2: of no booze and you know, no, we were there.
- 25:25Speaker 4: And there's always I mean, there's so many great tour stories,
- 25:28Speaker 4: isn't there depending on where you've been. And South Africa
- 25:31Speaker 4: was certainly one of the most interesting because just of
- 25:35Speaker 4: safety reasons and everything else. And we would always have
- 25:38Speaker 4: police escorts in South Africa. You'd never stop at a
- 25:41Speaker 4: red light. You'd have police in front of you with
- 25:43Speaker 4: the signs going the bus behind you. And what are
- 25:46Speaker 4: the funniest stories which you're going to tell right now,
- 25:48Speaker 4: I'm sure you.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Just reminded me of it.
- 25:51Speaker 5: The first time we went to South Africa, we had
- 25:54Speaker 5: police sort of with us, and anytime we went somewhere
- 25:58Speaker 5: we had to have a policeman with us, like physically
- 26:00Speaker 5: walking with us. And we went to the shopping center
- 26:02Speaker 5: and Cheryl and I wanted to get our legs wax,
- 26:04Speaker 5: so we shook the policemen and ran.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Away from him. We wouldn't got out of legs wax.
- 26:08Speaker 5: And when he found us, he absolutely read us the
- 26:11Speaker 5: Riot Act and told us about all the women who'd
- 26:13Speaker 5: been kidnapped from shopping centers in South Africa and they'd
- 26:16Speaker 5: found their bodies weeks later, and he scared us so much,
- 26:20Speaker 5: and eventually we're all just like hanging on to Hi.
- 26:22Speaker 4: I'm like, oh, dear, I think wanted a bikini wax,
- 26:30Speaker 4: didn't she? That was more than She's like, I don't
- 26:32Speaker 4: think I need to have him there with his guns
- 26:35Speaker 4: standing next to me while this.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Is happening, checking to see if the wax is too hot.
- 26:39Speaker 2: There's safety issues here. These women are my responsibility.
- 26:43Speaker 1: That's a pretty loose to her.
- 26:45Speaker 4: Yeah, of course none of that will be happening now
- 26:46Speaker 4: because they're in Australia. They'll be just you know, the
- 26:49Speaker 4: biggest thing they'll be worrying about is where they're getting
- 26:51Speaker 4: their good coffee from.
- 26:55Speaker 2: So there has been a lot of other really good
- 26:58Speaker 2: netball happening over the weekend, and one of those we
- 27:01Speaker 2: talked about last week, we talked about the Murray Little Shield,
- 27:03Speaker 2: and Liz, you told us about a video that you
- 27:07Speaker 2: had been sent by Stacy West about a little post
- 27:10Speaker 2: goal celebration and I hope everyone got a chance to see.
- 27:13Speaker 2: It's on the Facebook page and it's just it's gorgeous.
- 27:16Speaker 2: It's a really lovely little celebration. Then she got high
- 27:20Speaker 2: five from the keeper who was defending her. We have
- 27:22Speaker 2: had a message from the sister of that girl and
- 27:26Speaker 2: it says, Hi, guys, we were just listening to your
- 27:28Speaker 2: recent podcast and we heard the section in the Little
- 27:30Speaker 2: Maury Shield about the girl doing a dance after she
- 27:32Speaker 2: shot a goal. It was my sister. It was so
- 27:35Speaker 2: adorable and feel free to post it on your page.
- 27:37Speaker 2: You have full consent. It was such a beautiful moment
- 27:39Speaker 2: and we were so happy you guys got to see
- 27:41Speaker 2: it much love. Isn't that fabulous?
- 27:43Speaker 5: It's so good, Like it just keeps popping up because
- 27:46Speaker 5: people keep commenting on it, and it's something that we
- 27:49Speaker 5: probably don't see enough of ryme, but it just it
- 27:52Speaker 5: just made my heart sing.
- 27:53Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 27:53Speaker 5: I love that little video and I love the Murray
- 27:55Speaker 5: Little Shield because it's such a feel good sort of moment.
- 27:58Speaker 5: And if you're looking for some more footage, there's actually
- 28:00Speaker 5: someone the Netball Australian Instagram page. There's lots of behind
- 28:03Speaker 5: the scenes stuff and particularly of the teams sort of
- 28:07Speaker 5: hanging out together and doing stuff together, which is really cool.
- 28:09Speaker 2: And I got an amazing I hope people might have
- 28:12Speaker 2: seen this one too. I got a fabulous message from
- 28:14Speaker 2: Adrid Blair yesterday who pointed something out. You know, we've
- 28:17Speaker 2: asked you all to share photos of Grand Finals and
- 28:19Speaker 2: the like that are going on around the country and
- 28:21Speaker 2: we are loving seeing them. And this is something that
- 28:23Speaker 2: I live in my buddy little La La land, and
- 28:26Speaker 2: it hadn't even occurred to me. But please do make
- 28:29Speaker 2: sure that if you are going to be sharing any
- 28:30Speaker 2: photos that you have specific consent from the parent or
- 28:33Speaker 2: guardian of any child in that image. And how dribbler
- 28:36Speaker 2: pointed out that some families who have DV issues can't
- 28:39Speaker 2: be sharing photos of their kids for privacy and safety reasons,
- 28:43Speaker 2: and I was like, oh do I hadn't thought about that,
- 28:45Speaker 2: but of course it makes perfect sense, so let's keep
- 28:48Speaker 2: it safe and huge thanks to this dribbler who contacted
- 28:52Speaker 2: me and did it in such a positive and constructive way.
- 28:54Speaker 2: Everybody's so fast to go to outrage, but you know,
- 28:57Speaker 2: she didn't send me a message shaking of fists saying
- 28:59Speaker 2: you guys are jeopardizing children's safety or anything. She just
- 29:02Speaker 2: pointed this out as something that we could improve, and
- 29:05Speaker 2: I'm so grateful. It was just such a great reflection
- 29:08Speaker 2: I think of the community that we're building here.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Do you know what that happens a lot to me
- 29:11Speaker 4: in commentary, just with things you say. And I'm so
- 29:13Speaker 4: appreciative because a lot of the stuff we say because
- 29:16Speaker 4: historically it's something you're saying. And one of the greatest
- 29:19Speaker 4: ones was, you know, when a shoot of shoots, they
- 29:21Speaker 4: pull the trigger. And I actually had a lady contact
- 29:24Speaker 4: me a very similar circumstances saying had a friend that
- 29:27Speaker 4: was in a domestic violence situation and that's a really
- 29:31Speaker 4: alarming thing that you're saying. And I said, I completely apologize,
- 29:35Speaker 4: had never occurred to me at all, and since then,
- 29:39Speaker 4: just because she'd brought it to my attention, it's something
- 29:41Speaker 4: I'm very very aware of now and I don't say
- 29:44Speaker 4: at all but until you know, until these people make
- 29:46Speaker 4: contact and pointed out so appreciate it.
- 29:48Speaker 6: We do.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely.
- 29:50Speaker 5: If someone shakes their fists at you, you're likely to
- 29:53Speaker 5: uk up and go yes more. But if someone goes, oh, hey,
- 29:56Speaker 5: you might not know this, but here it is, and
- 29:58Speaker 5: you know, I would love for you to keep in
- 30:00Speaker 5: mind you go oh, well, of course, because if you
- 30:02Speaker 5: walked up to someone and said that, that's how you'd
- 30:04Speaker 5: approach it. Whereas sometimes online we get outraging up why
- 30:07Speaker 5: are you people?
- 30:08Speaker 3: You know?
- 30:08Speaker 5: And I remember when I was playing I got trolled
- 30:11Speaker 5: and I went back to that person and someone sent
- 30:13Speaker 5: something through my like to the admin email at my
- 30:16Speaker 5: old website that I used to have, and I used
- 30:18Speaker 5: to go through and just check those emails. And I
- 30:20Speaker 5: went back to them and said, look, I don't think
- 30:22Speaker 5: this is a very nice thing to say to me.
- 30:24Speaker 5: And they were like, oh, I didn't realize you'd read it.
- 30:30Speaker 4: I want to talk about it to you.
- 30:32Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. Like I have so many minions who do
- 30:34Speaker 1: all my things. We do often forget that there's somebody
- 30:37Speaker 1: at the end of these messages.
- 30:38Speaker 5: So it's great when people are considering that, and it
- 30:41Speaker 5: makes us far more able to take the message in
- 30:44Speaker 5: I think.
- 30:45Speaker 2: And you know, we're all learning and evolving people. So
- 30:48Speaker 2: Lizzie and I are in our fifties, Katherine, you're like forties.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Am our fabulous producer is much younger than us. And
- 30:53Speaker 2: on a number of occasions we'll press pause and say,
- 30:55Speaker 2: I don't think we use that expression anymore now. Please
- 30:57Speaker 2: don't think we're sitting here saying rattling off races remarks
- 31:00Speaker 2: or anything, but it is it is great to go.
- 31:02Speaker 2: Hadn't even thought about that, Like, that's you know, that
- 31:05Speaker 2: is not language that gets.
- 31:06Speaker 4: This is why we have millennials play with us.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Yes, that's right, so true. Hey guys, Off the back
- 31:12Speaker 1: of the Marie Little Shield.
- 31:13Speaker 5: There was another great event Netball Australia event this week
- 31:16Speaker 5: and it was the inaugural First Nations Tournament.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Oh yes, Melbourne. It was amazing right.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Every state and territory was represented and cutos to all
- 31:25Speaker 5: the state bodies.
- 31:26Speaker 3: It was.
- 31:26Speaker 1: It was something that had to commit to with not
- 31:29Speaker 1: a huge amount of leading.
- 31:32Speaker 5: Was a really quick turnaround, but they all did it.
- 31:33Speaker 5: They all got a team there and it was driven
- 31:36Speaker 5: by Ali Tucker Munro who many people would remember as
- 31:39Speaker 5: she was I think the assistant coach to Julie Fitzgerald
- 31:42Speaker 5: for the Giants one year and she's our first Nation's
- 31:44Speaker 5: lead at Netball Australia and she was desperate to get
- 31:47Speaker 5: something like this off the ground.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And Queensland won and the Queensland.
- 31:53Speaker 2: I was there, Carolyn Test match come on, so we
- 31:59Speaker 2: represent Dips.
- 32:00Speaker 4: Will never cheer for anybody else winning anything. Sorry that
- 32:03Speaker 4: is sentenced.
- 32:04Speaker 5: No, And I would not accept that this was rigged
- 32:07Speaker 5: for queens anthemine because they didn't get a Test match.
- 32:09Speaker 4: No.
- 32:09Speaker 1: In fact, I had a great coach.
- 32:10Speaker 5: I had Sharon finn and White who was a member
- 32:13Speaker 5: of the Diamonds and she's been running First Nations programs
- 32:16Speaker 5: in Queensland for a.
- 32:17Speaker 1: While, so to have her selected to coach was great.
- 32:20Speaker 5: Josie Chance Dawson coached the Waighte so you know, we're
- 32:23Speaker 5: starting to see.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Players come through and people come through who we knew
- 32:26Speaker 1: as players now as coaches. And it was such a
- 32:28Speaker 1: great event.
- 32:29Speaker 5: I saw some footage online a bit of a dance
- 32:31Speaker 5: off and some stuff that was happening, so there was
- 32:33Speaker 5: a real joy around the event as well.
- 32:35Speaker 1: So congratulations to Shads.
- 32:38Speaker 5: She's MYLD, my favorite roomy back in the days where
- 32:40Speaker 5: we played in the Opens in New South Wales and
- 32:43Speaker 5: I spreaking Shenanigans.
- 32:44Speaker 4: When she played. I was only there for a minute,
- 32:47Speaker 4: but I have played with all three of those players
- 32:49Speaker 4: he just mentioned, oh have you, Yeah, every single one.
- 32:53Speaker 4: All defenders too, just quietly what's going on there, but
- 32:56Speaker 4: all brilliant players and very passionate about the course. So
- 32:59Speaker 4: so good to see this is up and running and
- 33:01Speaker 4: them all participating in it.
- 33:03Speaker 5: Yeah, and hopefully it'll it'll grow as easy and then
- 33:06Speaker 5: you know, it's a way to we know that we've
- 33:08Speaker 5: got lots of First Nations players at grassroots, but we
- 33:10Speaker 5: really don't have enough playing in senior levels and we
- 33:13Speaker 5: don't have enough First Nations women, you know, on boards
- 33:16Speaker 5: within netball, we don't have enough First Nations umpires and coaches.
- 33:20Speaker 5: So this is a way to sort of really kickstart
- 33:24Speaker 5: that process. And I was just so excited that it went, well, yeah.
- 33:27Speaker 2: That's fabulous and this is a net All Australia initiative.
- 33:30Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's really driven by Ali Tucker Monroe. And
- 33:33Speaker 5: when we did the stat of the Game review, one
- 33:34Speaker 5: of the recommendations was that there was a First Nations
- 33:37Speaker 5: lead employeed at Netball Australia to really drive these programs.
- 33:40Speaker 5: We've got a great First Nations board member, Professor chryl
- 33:43Speaker 5: kick At Tucker from Western Australia, who is so amazing,
- 33:47Speaker 5: And now Ali is a First Nation's lead and you know,
- 33:50Speaker 5: she put together the Black Swans program, which is a
- 33:53Speaker 5: First Nations team that has played a couple of different tournaments,
- 33:57Speaker 5: and now she's really driven this this tournament.
- 34:01Speaker 1: And there's some other initiatives.
- 34:02Speaker 5: Going on to around online coaching courses and that sort
- 34:06Speaker 5: of stuff for First Nations people. So yeah, there's a
- 34:08Speaker 5: lot of work going on sort of under the tournament
- 34:11Speaker 5: is the show piece and the Black Swans are the
- 34:13Speaker 5: show piece, and Ali's doing a hedred work underneath to
- 34:16Speaker 5: make sure that they're not just show pieces. That are
- 34:19Speaker 5: there's a significant change that we see through the system.
- 34:22Speaker 5: So I couldn't be happier as to the work that's happening,
- 34:26Speaker 5: and I'm really excited to see where it leads.
- 34:28Speaker 2: And just what the value of representation actually rather than
- 34:33Speaker 2: talking about issues, you talk to people who are really
- 34:36Speaker 2: affected by the issues and ask them to advocate for
- 34:38Speaker 2: the solutions and things. Just fantastic, good job Netball Australia.
- 34:45Speaker 2: I think that we've got some important matters to attend
- 34:48Speaker 2: to before we finish up. One of those is something
- 34:51Speaker 2: that we do every week and we love doing it
- 34:53Speaker 2: is the Wind Beneath Our Wings now dribblers. This has
- 34:57Speaker 2: caused some fairly significant debate eight at the Yeah, it's
- 35:03Speaker 2: innovative and it's cheeky.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I love cheeky.
- 35:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it's there's something. Well, anyway, let's have a listen.
- 35:11Speaker 2: It's a voice note to start with, which is absolutely terrific.
- 35:14Speaker 2: It's out of the state of New South Wales and
- 35:17Speaker 2: that'll please Cath. I mean, so let's have a listen
- 35:20Speaker 2: and then we'll talk about it from a governance and
- 35:22Speaker 2: policy perspective. From the Wind Beneath Our Wings nominations process.
- 35:27Speaker 6: Hi, Liz, cath Carolyn. This is Ronda Daniel from Maitland
- 35:32Speaker 6: and Maitland RSEL Youth Club Netbak Club. And this is
- 35:35Speaker 6: going to be a bit of a shameful plug because
- 35:37Speaker 6: I am that desperate to win one of your no
- 35:40Speaker 6: Dribble scrunches that I want to nominate myself for Wind
- 35:44Speaker 6: Beneath Your Wings, which is really shocking, I know, but
- 35:49Speaker 6: I really really want one of your scrunchies. So basically
- 35:54Speaker 6: I obviously played Sinces seven umpired coach, had numerous positions
- 35:58Speaker 6: on the committee. Can't tell you how many fundraisers, raffles,
- 36:03Speaker 6: cook sausages, you name it. I've been there alongside my teammates,
- 36:07Speaker 6: done it, including all the rep chocolates that we had
- 36:10Speaker 6: to sell and raffle tickets and oh my god. But
- 36:14Speaker 6: the friendships I've made through Netbell have been amazing. The
- 36:18Speaker 6: blisters on my feet through state Champs were amazing.
- 36:22Speaker 5: Loved it all.
- 36:23Speaker 2: So that's ronder. We couldn't play the whole thing, but
- 36:25Speaker 2: I think we get the gist of it that she's
- 36:27Speaker 2: definitely worthy of a wind beneath our wings.
- 36:30Speaker 4: She because she I mean, I could say how great
- 36:33Speaker 4: I am fun, but I'm not because I don't do it. Yeah,
- 36:39Speaker 4: so we've got to tell you that with a grain
- 36:41Speaker 4: of salt. But the fact that she's prepared to put
- 36:43Speaker 4: herself that out there because she wants one of our scrungies, yeah,
- 36:47Speaker 4: I mean, that's understandable. Absolutely, Yeah, Clearly she's not seen
- 36:50Speaker 4: the quality of the workmanship.
- 36:52Speaker 2: So it's hard orthodox, Ronda, But we like it and
- 36:56Speaker 2: we like you. But like when Thorpe wore that body suit,
- 37:01Speaker 2: it's going to happen once and it's currently legal, but
- 37:04Speaker 2: after this moment it will be illegal. You will be
- 37:07Speaker 2: the only person in the history of Wind Beneath Our
- 37:10Speaker 2: Wings to have a self nominated award.
- 37:14Speaker 4: What's our take on her getting the Printhy Wine voucher
- 37:17Speaker 4: as well? Hm, maybe we should.
- 37:20Speaker 2: Keep Maybe we should ask m Swift from Printhy Wines
- 37:26Speaker 2: generous sponsor there. But yeah, Ronda, you are the wind
- 37:30Speaker 2: beneath our wings. We think that you are the cheeky
- 37:32Speaker 2: wind beneath our wings. And you know, there's a lot
- 37:34Speaker 2: to be said, and this is what women don't do enough,
- 37:37Speaker 2: is say pick me.
- 37:38Speaker 3: So good on you.
- 37:39Speaker 2: You've said pick me, and we want to support that
- 37:43Speaker 2: just now though, and then it's banned forever. But congratulations
- 37:47Speaker 2: arounder Daniel and also the voice note, Yes, tick tick,
- 37:51Speaker 2: and no more tics after that, but yes, please keep
- 37:53Speaker 2: sending in your nominations. Send us a voice note via Instagram.
- 37:59Speaker 2: If you can't get hold of us, dm me on
- 38:01Speaker 2: messenger via Facebook and will work something out. The number
- 38:05Speaker 2: of people who now have my personal phone number is
- 38:10Speaker 2: I'm sure there would be issues with that, but it's
- 38:12Speaker 2: like everyone's been so respectful. But yeah, we want to
- 38:15Speaker 2: want to hear from you for the wind beneath our wings.
- 38:17Speaker 5: So yeah, but just a memo to everyone who's got
- 38:20Speaker 5: your personal phone number, please, after your fourteenth cocktail on
- 38:23Speaker 5: Thursday night watching the Diamonds and the Roses, try not
- 38:26Speaker 5: to message Carolyne.
- 38:28Speaker 1: Please.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Yeah, that is what the Facebook page is for. Let's
- 38:31Speaker 2: share this and let us know what you are doing
- 38:34Speaker 2: and enjoy watching the game wherever you are, so quick
- 38:38Speaker 2: tip from you, guys. It's a three match series. How's
- 38:40Speaker 2: it going to go down?
- 38:42Speaker 4: Diamonds, Diamonds, diamonds.
- 38:46Speaker 5: Okay, that's cass three domes. Okay, I need to be close,
- 38:51Speaker 5: but I think the Diamonds will prevail.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Well, the last game they played each other, it was
- 38:55Speaker 4: twenty the difference and how long I was at That
- 38:58Speaker 4: was January this year, so let's and that was in
- 39:01Speaker 4: the final of the Netball Nations Cup yep, so let's
- 39:04Speaker 4: hope it's a little closer than that. For all the spectators.
- 39:07Speaker 2: I will remind you though, that the Swifts won the
- 39:10Speaker 2: preseason Cup and then went on to not win the
- 39:13Speaker 2: Sun called Super Netple, So things can happen in the
- 39:15Speaker 2: space of a year that were not anticipated. Things can
- 39:19Speaker 2: happen in the space of two months.
- 39:21Speaker 4: They totally can, and I'm sure it will be a
- 39:23Speaker 4: lot closer when you think about the superstars that they've
- 39:25Speaker 4: had over here playing. There's some coming next year Ima
- 39:28Speaker 4: Jen Allison. She'll be one that will be keeping our
- 39:30Speaker 4: eye on for the England Roses because she will be
- 39:32Speaker 4: playing with the Firebirds next season. So yeah, there's plenty
- 39:36Speaker 4: of interest I think for both sides. But I reckon
- 39:38Speaker 4: it's going to be close.
- 39:39Speaker 2: All right, So you two are both tipping a clean
- 39:42Speaker 2: sweep for the Diamonds. I'm going to try to make
- 39:44Speaker 2: it more interesting and say I think it's going to
- 39:45Speaker 2: be two tests to the Diamonds, one to the Roses.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Can we just spare a thought for Giants supporters at
- 39:51Speaker 2: the moment. So I don't know whether if there are
- 39:53Speaker 2: people who are Giants supporters of the netball team and
- 39:56Speaker 2: the AFL now, but tough year didn't play the Swans.
- 40:01Speaker 1: On the week. Who cares?
- 40:02Speaker 4: The Swans are through to know that.
- 40:03Speaker 2: The Giants are also New South Wales. So you can
- 40:06Speaker 2: be blind and one eyed and.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Still I've been a Swan support along before the Giants existed,
- 40:11Speaker 4: so I'm sorry that's the what for choking two weeks
- 40:16Speaker 4: in a row?
- 40:18Speaker 1: Oh man, that's.
- 40:21Speaker 4: Is it true or not?
- 40:28Speaker 2: Well, I had a hard day yesterday watching the Bulldogs lose.
- 40:31Speaker 1: To having said that I chief for Penrith.
- 40:35Speaker 2: Well, you're allowed to because you grew up in westerns
- 40:37Speaker 2: If I could find any reason to cheer for Penrith,
- 40:39Speaker 2: I would totally get on that bandwagon.
- 40:41Speaker 6: But I can't.
- 40:42Speaker 4: So yeah.
- 40:43Speaker 5: So well, look, I grew up going to Penrith Park
- 40:46Speaker 5: with my dad when they were the Chocolate Soldiers and
- 40:48Speaker 5: they used to get flogged all the time.
- 40:49Speaker 1: So I feel like I'm entitled.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Now you are entitled about it. This is how much
- 40:54Speaker 4: I care about the NRL. Are they in the finals?
- 40:56Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 40:58Speaker 2: So Penrith Panthers have won the premiership the last three
- 41:01Speaker 2: years in a row. This year they are looking really
- 41:03Speaker 2: good to take it out for the fourth time, which
- 41:05Speaker 2: I don't think has been done since the since maybe
- 41:09Speaker 2: rabbit Oz did it in the sixties or something like that.
- 41:11Speaker 5: So George or someone like that. Yeah, but they are
- 41:15Speaker 5: in the major preliminary final.
- 41:17Speaker 2: Yeah, they had they had this weekend off because they're
- 41:20Speaker 2: that good. So it's like you go straight through. But anyway. Okay,
- 41:23Speaker 2: that's enough. We've now, we've gone way over.
- 41:26Speaker 1: But what a comedy sport we have?
- 41:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, we have. We've covered every sport.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Look at US ice hockey.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Yeah we did.
- 41:33Speaker 2: We cover at ice hockey. And we talked about Darryl
- 41:36Speaker 2: Strawberry anyway, he's from Major League Baseball. Anyway, have a
- 41:42Speaker 2: great week. Everybody. Make sure you jump on our Facebook page.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Let us know what you're doing. If you're enjoying this podcast,
- 41:48Speaker 2: please share it with people. It's amazing to me the
- 41:50Speaker 2: number of people in the netball world who were saying
- 41:52Speaker 2: to me, I didn't realize you had a podcast. It's like,
- 41:54Speaker 2: how do you not know that we have this amazing
- 41:58Speaker 2: podcast for you know, the broader netball family.
- 42:01Speaker 1: So share it is this episode twenty.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Says, yes, I know, think it is.
- 42:07Speaker 1: I look like, oh my gosh, what are we doing
- 42:09Speaker 1: for Christy?
- 42:10Speaker 2: What are we doing for our twenty first next week?
- 42:12Speaker 4: Oh yeah, let's have something.
- 42:14Speaker 1: But I've been married twenty five years this year, so.
- 42:18Speaker 4: Oh wow, what's that? What's the thing for twenty five?
- 42:22Speaker 1: That's silver? Gently the other day with a picture of
- 42:26Speaker 1: some silver earrings that I'd like, very nice.
- 42:28Speaker 4: You wear white gold more, don't you.
- 42:32Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'd take silver earrings because I lose earrings
- 42:34Speaker 5: all the time, so they need to be silver beause
- 42:36Speaker 5: they're cheaper.
- 42:37Speaker 2: But it's my birthday on Friday, so it's all how
- 42:40Speaker 2: are we doing? That's why I'm happy to hit the
- 42:41Speaker 2: cocktails on Thursday night or whatever. Let's stay your Thursday
- 42:46Speaker 2: and not finished till after the match on Sunday afternoon,
- 42:49Speaker 2: but looking forward to seeing our dribblers at the live
- 42:51Speaker 2: event on Sunday. And for those of you who are
- 42:54Speaker 2: not in Sydney, we are really trying hard to make
- 42:56Speaker 2: plans for it'll be next year, but to get out
- 42:59Speaker 2: of Sydney. We realize we're a little bit Sidney centric,
- 43:01Speaker 2: but that's just because we're trick. Yeah, we're kind of
- 43:04Speaker 2: doing this well. We're trying to get Kathu out of
- 43:06Speaker 2: New South Wales without paying her a water cash. It's difficult.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Is not much more open to talk to your premiere
- 43:14Speaker 2: if you'd like Catherine Cox to come to your steak
- 43:16Speaker 2: get your premier to throw a water cash out of
- 43:19Speaker 2: all right, guys, well, thanks very much, this has been
- 43:20Speaker 2: no dribble. I'm Carolyne Swindell.
- 43:22Speaker 4: I'm kath Cox, and Carolyn actually does want you to
- 43:25Speaker 4: ring her on her private number on Thursday night after
- 43:29Speaker 4: you've had a few cocktails. Everybody go the Diamonds.
- 43:33Speaker 1: Only tell us and I can't wait to hear about
- 43:35Speaker 1: it all next week. Have a great week.
- 43:38Speaker 3: Bye,
