- 1:16SPEAKER_00: At both locations, their barrel picks all day, every day, are like none other.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Each location features stations with five barrels, each featuring their pot-distilled bourbons and rye.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Once the barrels have been thieved and tasted, you can make a selection and feed your own bottle.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: A day at Whiskey Thief with their friendly staff and ownership will ensure you many good times with good friends and family.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: Remember to always drink responsibly, never drink and dry, and live your life unplugged and unfiltered.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: We have Bourbon on the banks.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Good to see you, Amsey.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Always good to be here, Jeff.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: And Renee True.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: And good to have you guys back again.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: Thanks for coming, Renee.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, good to be here, Jeff.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: We're looking forward to this.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Diane is getting this was a little late.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Next year we will make sure that she comes on, that's for sure.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: But Diane has been on the past couple, and we're gonna miss her tonight.
- 3:42SPEAKER_01: But we've got Ansie and Renee, and I'm excited.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: Excited for this year's festival, honestly.
- 3:50SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 3:51SPEAKER_09: Got a few new things we'll cover during this podcast, Jeff.
- 3:55SPEAKER_09: Uh so always making a few improvements.
- 3:57SPEAKER_01: I'm looking forward to new things.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And but let's just talk about the staple parts of the of the of the festival that's been there since the start.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, the setting is unlike any whiskey festival setting, in my opinion.
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, talk about that.
- 4:19SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, you know, right on the Kentucky River in downtown Frankfurt.
- 4:22SPEAKER_09: I'm not aware of another festival like ours that is on a river.
- 4:28SPEAKER_09: It's a park in in downtown Frankfurt.
- 4:30SPEAKER_09: And we take the park over for a couple of days.
- 4:33SPEAKER_09: First, first weekend in October every year.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And it has been.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: And you know, ever since I first but but I remember, I think initially, what was the first year?
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Well, it started in 2019.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: 2019.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: And that's right when I was getting into bourbon.
- 4:55SPEAKER_01: I I was really, I wasn't a podcast yet.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: We started in November of 2019.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: And but I do remember seeing it out on social media and everybody talking.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: And then also you were on the burr.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: I I remember hearing you guys on the Bourbon Road talking about Diane, I think, and and was it you, Amsey or was it Renee?
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: One or the other.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: It's probably all three of us.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: All three of us.
- 5:25SPEAKER_07: It depends on uh there was it may have been the first year I had to miss the Bourbon Road podcast.
- 5:29SPEAKER_07: So I don't know how much year you saw.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it was I think it I was listening while I was cutting my grass.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Honestly, I swear to God, we just had a talk about that, but I was listening to it while I was cutting my grass, and you guys were talking about how at the last minute you kept it what there was you just kept adding more people.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Like that you had enough room to add, you know, people were finding out about it and jumping in at the last minute.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: So they were just you that's one of the things you guys were talking about, how you know, and then you could come down and you know, everybody should come down.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: And I just thought about how I wanted to do that.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, and so I've you know, maybe talk a little bit how it's evolved, you know, what the evolution has been since then, you know, go from there, you know, from that point and each year how things change just a little bit and how it's gotten, you know, move forward.
- 6:26SPEAKER_07: I I think a big thing is that we have, you know, we started out, but we've always limited ticket sales, and we started out with a smaller number, and we've always been careful to not grow the festival too quickly.
- 6:40SPEAKER_07: We wanted to ensure that people have a pleasant experience.
- 6:44SPEAKER_07: You know, you're not fighting in crowds, you're not trying to swim upstream through a sea of people, you're not waiting in line too long when you're visiting one of the distillery tents.
- 6:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and you know, Jeff, we we're we're constrained by the geographical limits of the park.
- 7:02SPEAKER_09: But to Ansey's point, we've kept it an intimate affair.
- 7:05SPEAKER_09: I think the first year we had twelve or thirteen hundred people, and this year we're up to twenty nine hundred, which is an increase of three hundred from last year, but it's bequ uh we've added an hour start this year, and we have a little bit more space to work with because some of the obstructions that were construction-wise outside of our uh control have been taken care of.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: So we felt like we could add a few more ticket sales, and so we did, and we'll see how it goes.
- 7:38SPEAKER_09: If if we feel like uh it's too crowded, we'll we'll back off that number next year.
- 7:44SPEAKER_09: But I don't think it will be.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: We just add a couple hundred from last year.
- 7:48SPEAKER_07: You know, and I would say another thing is that that we did that I think was smart was the Twilight tickets.
- 7:54SPEAKER_07: So we do have the early entry people, we have the normal entry, and then twilight gets you in the last couple hours.
- 8:02SPEAKER_07: And at that point, the crowd's starting to spread out a little bit.
- 8:06SPEAKER_07: There's not a bottleneck, you know, when you're first coming in.
- 8:08SPEAKER_07: Some people have decided they're done for the day and they've gone home.
- 8:12SPEAKER_07: And then that gives some people to come in there at the end to try a few things.
- 8:17unknown: Yeah.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I and I think that that's 100% true with the Twilight ticket.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: That that is definitely there.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Are some people who like bourbon, but they and they want to see see a couple, you know, whatever, but they're not the avid diehards, gotta try and try everything.
- 8:35SPEAKER_01: They're just looking for what's out there a little bit, you know.
- 8:40SPEAKER_09: And the Twilight tickets are the only tickets that we still have availability.
- 8:44SPEAKER_09: The other tickets sold out.
- 8:45SPEAKER_09: However, Diane told us to make sure we tell everybody that if they want tickets, because people start canceling, things happen in their family, and they have other things that happen and they can't come and they'll turn their tickets in, to go ahead and go to bourbononthebanks.org and go to the contact section and send an email to us if you want to be put on the waiting list for any of the tickets.
- 9:13SPEAKER_09: I think she said the early entry had nobody on the waiting list, and the general admission had not very many.
- 9:20SPEAKER_09: So I'll make sure your listeners know that.
- 9:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_07: Renee Diane's gonna be proud of us for that.
- 9:26SPEAKER_07: I just wrote down wait list, so I didn't forget, but she brought that one up.
- 9:30SPEAKER_07: There you go.
- 9:31SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 9:32SPEAKER_09: You know, I mean, you know, we don't we don't want to have any tickets go unsold.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: That's what the it's a bourbon, uh, you know, and everybody I would really say that if you want to come, it is the definition of a bourbon festival.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: It has a festival, festival atmosphere.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: The food trucks that you guys bring in in the food, it definitely, but at the same time, it doesn't have a it actually has people who love bourbon celebrating bourbon in a festival.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Not so much a community celebrating a festival with all different types of things.
- 11:04SPEAKER_01: The focus on whiskey is so prevalent there.
- 11:08SPEAKER_01: And then what what the different distilleries are able to bring to the table every year always is pretty cool.
- 11:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we we've we've worked on that.
- 11:21SPEAKER_09: We've had local vendors and others maybe running for office or whatever, want to be part of the festival and have a booth.
- 11:28SPEAKER_09: And we're like, no, I mean it has to be bourbon-centric.
- 11:31SPEAKER_09: And, you know, it we we've held to that, and we've, you know, it's it's I think it's worked well.
- 11:38SPEAKER_09: We get good reviews because of that.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and then there's people like you, you know, there's different podcasts represented.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I think we're the only one that actually podcasts live.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Are we?
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I mean, has anybody where we're actually doing a podcast with guests like in a s in a studio situation.
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: There's so many people that are interviewing people.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: I know that.
- 12:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Bourbon Life might be doing that.
- 12:08SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 12:09SPEAKER_09: I I think so, yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_09: And they've not necessarily participated fully.
- 12:14SPEAKER_09: I'm like, they've come to the festival, they've not necessarily done a podcast or had a booth, but they they are going to this year.
- 12:20SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it makes sense.
- 12:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: That's excellent.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: And that's one thing that we always, you know, I love seeing Chad and well, I love seeing Chad and Chad now.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And then I like and then I see Sarah now over at Wiz or at uh Dark Arts, so that's good to see.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, I always like to see the other people there and all the stuff, you know, the bourbon road and all that stuff and how they go about doing everything.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: And it's it's a pretty, I feel it's a pretty cool event.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: So, you know, talk about some of the things, the little extra kind of things, talk about VIP and kind of how all that works and how, you know, as the you know, the the little special things with the festival, and then we'll get, you know, the festival's Saturday, but the actual whole event starts that Thursday night at Whiskey Thief, right?
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: On the on the jump, the jump off.
- 13:18SPEAKER_07: Well, really, it it starts a little little earlier on Thursday.
- 13:23SPEAKER_07: Got the mythology on the river that's on the bourbon bell boat.
- 13:29SPEAKER_07: And that's gonna be uh the Ingram distillery and Heather Webbles.
- 13:34SPEAKER_07: And then that evening we'll have the kickoff event out at Whiskey Thief.
- 13:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_09: Unfortunately, the the boat ride is sold out.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: But the boat only holds about 30, 35 people, so it sells out quick every year.
- 13:50SPEAKER_09: But still, still still a great thing.
- 13:52SPEAKER_09: And if you do come early, like you come Wednesday or some other day, or some other time you come to Frankfurt, the bourbon, you know, make a reservation to go on the bourbon boat.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Oh, so you can actually be on the bourbon boat through it's it now runs all the time.
- 14:11SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, I don't think it runs in the winter, but like uh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:16SPEAKER_09: But yes, yes, it's available different times of year.
- 14:19SPEAKER_09: And as far as I know, it's the only bourbon tour that is totally on a river.
- 14:26SPEAKER_09: It's pretty cool.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: That would be cool.
- 14:29SPEAKER_01: I the the all the the person I would want to do that tour with is right right here.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I would want to do that tour with Amsey.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And then we just have to make sure we can make that happen sometimes.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: And then we don't we gotta make sure we just don't fall off the boat.
- 14:43SPEAKER_07: I was gonna say we gotta make sure we put our life vests on before we uh board the boat, probably.
- 14:47SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 14:49SPEAKER_09: They have they have whiskey pours on the boat, so you know you can you can have your pour there and oh that sounds like that sounds like a good time, that's for sure.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so uh the one thing, you know, with the what what with this festival is that I've always found is that it naturally what is it?
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Oh god, I the word it's whatever the word's not coming to me.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, it just basically grows into the community.
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Like you guys didn't have to do anything special to make you you have the the the the street vendors and and the and the special party and the music and all that that's set up by you guys, but everybody seems to just love the festival as it extends out into the community.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: It's such a great community to go out into after the festival or the night, you know, on when when everybody gets their Friday night, everybody's out on the out on the town.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: You guys now talk about the the Thursday, you know, you've got that, and then you've got the the kickoff at Whiskey Thief, and then you've got the Friday event.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: You know, tell everybody about that.
- 16:08SPEAKER_09: Ansy, you want to take the food pairing and I I'll do the VIP or something else that basically runs the entire time would be the four roses, the pub stroll too.
- 16:21SPEAKER_07: So that actually that starts on Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: Four roses.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: Well, tell me about that.
- 16:29SPEAKER_07: I've seen the pub stroll it it's gonna be the the participating establishments, which is just about everything, I think, downtown that serves alcohol.
- 16:40SPEAKER_07: Uh you can go in, get one of the cocktails made with four roses that they're showcasing, get your card stamped, and you visit so many of those, turn that in, and then you there'll be a drawing and you can win tickets for next year.
- 16:54SPEAKER_07: Isn't that how that works, Renee?
- 16:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, there's a there's a prize associated with it, and I'm not sure what it is, but I do think it's free tickets somewhere involved for next year.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: So it's so you have to buy a drink at every bar and then you quali you qualify for a truck.
- 17:13SPEAKER_07: You gotta get it, you have to you have to visit a certain number of stamps.
- 17:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_07: And and you don't have to go to all of them, I don't think.
- 17:20SPEAKER_07: You just have to get a certain number of stamps.
- 17:22SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 17:22SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:23SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 17:24SPEAKER_07: So this is a pub stroll, not a pub crawl.
- 17:28SPEAKER_07: We gotta remember that part.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: Well, you you can make it whatever you want, obviously.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: But yeah, that's right.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: You know, there, you know, I accept challenges.
- 17:39unknown: Yeah.
- 17:40SPEAKER_09: Well, we used to be able to do a pub stroll pretty quickly in downtown Frankfurt, but that is no longer the case.
- 17:47SPEAKER_09: So there's at least 12 restaurants or bars that that serve bourbon in downtown Frankfurt.
- 17:53SPEAKER_09: So it's yeah, you you need to pace yourself.
- 17:58SPEAKER_01: Well, uh like any any whiskey festival, yes, you need to pace yourself.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: I always find that somehow you keep the pores little and you sip and you just do the bourbon lifestyle, and most of the time you you're you're okay.
- 18:14SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 18:15SPEAKER_07: I tell people it is a marathon, not a sprint.
- 18:18SPEAKER_07: So drink it to the finish line.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the goal is is to taste things, to find out what you haven't tasted and like, you know, to go forward, you know, going in, you know, what how you go about purchasing, you know, finding a brand that you like.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: That's what a festival can do.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: You can always try stuff that you've never tried before.
- 18:42SPEAKER_07: Unless you're you know, but because they you're not going to be able to try every distillery, and you're definitely not gonna be able to try everything that every distillery brings.
- 18:51SPEAKER_07: And so normally what I recommend people do, if someone's listing and they haven't gone to a festival before, study who's gonna be there.
- 18:59SPEAKER_07: You know, look at the list of distilleries, find them on the map, and go to ones that you have wanted to try and haven't had the chance to try.
- 19:07SPEAKER_07: You know, or maybe you know one of the distilleries you like has a new product out and you want to try it.
- 19:12SPEAKER_07: I really think that's what an event like this is for.
- 19:16SPEAKER_07: You know, and then you find something you like, buy some bottles to take home.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 19:21SPEAKER_01: And let's talk about, let's just talk about that right there.
- 19:26SPEAKER_01: Buy some bottles to take home.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: I remember the first year that we were there, I think Wilderness Trail was the you could get the the barrel pick for the festival.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: That was the one that we were that that was there that year.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: And but a lot of other places, it was just starting that, you know, you weren't there weren't a lot of other bottles to pick up, put it that way there.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Now the next year, all of a sudden, I think I picked up the the old Carter Bardstown bourbon company release after being depressed that I wasn't, I was, you know, getting ready for the festival and I wasn't in Bardstown to actually pick that up.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, that's something I wanted.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: And then I was able to get it at the festival.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And then it's just been, ever since then, it's just been on.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: It's just the different distilleries.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: I I think last year, I know as we all know Macaulay really well with dark arts.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, the first year he was there with dark arts, he just was getting his, you know, he was there.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Nobody really knew what was going on.
- 20:34SPEAKER_01: Us who knew him knew what was going on.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: But you know, as far as general public, but last year that I couldn't even get to through I I every single time I went by his tent, it was it was 10 deep.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, you could not now, and that's part of I think the uh the bottleneck that you know when people first come in, he was right up there.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: So everybody was hitting it.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: And that was one thing, and he's really caused a a stir in the industry.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: You know, everybody wants to know what what what he what's going on.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: Now, you know how the layout is, I mean, it's just basically a walk down and a walk up, right?
- 21:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah, one long walk down along the river.
- 21:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 21:27SPEAKER_09: So and you know that that was a Kentucky law that changed a couple years ago, Jeff, that allowed the distilleries to actually sell the bottles at festivals like this.
- 21:38SPEAKER_09: And we jumped on board and we actually have facilitated with a local vendor of capital sellers in downtown Frankfurt for the out of state distilleries that do not have a license to sell in Kentucky, but they can sell through this retailer that we'll have a booth there as well.
- 21:59SPEAKER_09: So and also Amsey will get in at some point in time to our our festival barrel picks, which will also be available.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: There, that was that was awesome.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: The festival barrel picks.
- 22:18SPEAKER_07: And I think part of that was, you know, that first year, you know, as Renee mentioned, or the first couple years, you know, some of the laws were different.
- 22:26SPEAKER_07: And so we would actually buy the festival at first had to buy the barrel pick, get a special temporary license to be able to sell that.
- 22:36SPEAKER_07: Renee and I would have to stand there and pour samples and sell bottles the whole time.
- 22:41SPEAKER_07: I remember tough gig.
- 22:43SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and and for now the distilleries can sell it, you know, at their own booth.
- 22:48SPEAKER_07: For the out of state distilleries, you know, for anyone who hasn't been there, they are all grouped in one area and they're say attached, you know, they're they're all just in the same area.
- 22:59SPEAKER_07: And they have to actually get their bottles for sampling through Capital Sellers.
- 23:04SPEAKER_07: They have to, if they're out of state, they have to go through a distributor.
- 23:07SPEAKER_07: But you can still try their bottles, and then if there's something you like, Capital Sellers has their their cash register and everything, you can go down there and purchase those bottles.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it's right there.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like uh well, like you said, an out-of-state uh store right there in the festival.
- 23:29SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 23:30SPEAKER_07: You know, the other thing for people that may not notice it when you come in, when you come in into the festival, that little sort of I don't know what you call a little gazebo little thing up at the top of the flood wall there.
- 23:43SPEAKER_07: The look Local Capital City Shriners Club, Capital City Shrine Club, will be set up and they run our bottle check.
- 23:51SPEAKER_07: So as you're acquiring bottles, you don't have to carry all of them.
- 23:54SPEAKER_07: You can go back up there, check the bottle, they give you the tag, put your bottles in an empty case for you.
- 24:00SPEAKER_07: And then at the end of the festival, when you're ready to leave, you can go up there and grab your box of bottles and take them out to the car.
- 24:07SPEAKER_07: Feel free to tip the Shriners.
- 24:10SPEAKER_07: You know, if you're familiar with the Shriners hospitals, great cause.
- 24:14SPEAKER_07: The local clubs will use that money to help transport kids to the hospitals.
- 24:19SPEAKER_07: So use that service and uh tip them well.
- 24:22SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: The entrance, you the big entrance, I call it.
- 24:27SPEAKER_01: That's that's kind of a cool that's one part of that's really nice.
- 24:30SPEAKER_01: The line that leads up to the festival, and then you're looking down into you know the river valley of that you're up there on top of the levee.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: It's really a cool entrance to the festival.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: And so what do you got?
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: What what's new this year?
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: You said there was a few things new.
- 24:54SPEAKER_09: Well, I already mentioned one.
- 24:56SPEAKER_09: We're starting an hour earlier.
- 24:58SPEAKER_09: The other thing is we have a new co-title sponsor.
- 25:02SPEAKER_09: Uh visit Frankfurt, the tourism agency for for Frankfurt, is one of our sponsors.
- 25:09SPEAKER_09: But BJ's Wholesale Club, which is opening up in Frankfurt in the next month or two, it's almost ready, has become one of our lead sponsors.
- 25:20SPEAKER_09: And they're uh we we all the things we hear every year.
- 25:24SPEAKER_09: There's not enough places to sit, there's not enough places to get out of the sun, or just just just chill for a while.
- 25:31SPEAKER_09: So they're gonna have a big tent presence there where you can go lounge.
- 25:35SPEAKER_09: It's it's not the VIP, the VIP tent separate.
- 25:38SPEAKER_09: You have to pay extra for it.
- 25:39SPEAKER_09: This one's gonna be available to everybody.
- 25:41SPEAKER_09: Just come in and and you know, take a load off their feet for a while and sit down if they want to.
- 25:47SPEAKER_09: So we're we're really glad to have them with us this year.
- 25:51SPEAKER_09: They're gonna have, and then we we do listen to our surveys, and so we've added more benches.
- 25:56SPEAKER_09: Sometimes we actually use some of our proceeds and work with the Department of Parks to make improvements like more electrical outlets for our food vendors and others, and benches and parks, uh more umbrellas for people, all that stuff.
- 26:12SPEAKER_09: We try to we try to do that.
- 26:14SPEAKER_09: We try to listen to our customers.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, that sounds that sounds cool.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: You know, one of the things I always say, the best hydration is always so important at a whiskey festival, especially first week in October, it can be still hot in Kentucky.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: So if you're there and you're drinking, you know, you're getting you get heat and then you start drinking bourbon, you always gotta have water.
- 26:43SPEAKER_01: And you guys have the stations, correct?
- 26:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 26:48SPEAKER_09: We do.
- 26:49SPEAKER_09: We have them throughout the park for the festival.
- 26:52SPEAKER_07: So and also go ahead, and Mz.
- 26:56SPEAKER_07: I was gonna say also, I will throw on my Frankfurt Bourbon Society hat real quick.
- 27:00SPEAKER_07: And Frankfurt Bourbon Society will have a tent set up.
- 27:04SPEAKER_07: As always, people can stop by there.
- 27:05SPEAKER_07: We'll have some soft drinks, some chairs, you can sit and visit with us for a little bit.
- 27:10SPEAKER_01: What?
- 27:11SPEAKER_01: So you actually get the frank, you actually get away from like the the you're not the working area of handing out like the one year when you were just like handing out, you were selling t-shirts and distributing barrel picks all the whole festival.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: So now you actually get to be in the Frankfurt bourbon tent?
- 27:30SPEAKER_07: No, no, I really liked it.
- 27:32SPEAKER_07: I think it's one, you know, we picked it, I think, because the finish, the pork finish on it, I think really shined through on that one.
- 27:40SPEAKER_07: Boondocks did a pick this year.
- 27:45SPEAKER_07: Something really different on this one, Copper Kings out of Louisville, did a pick, and we chose a brandy over their bourbon.
- 27:54SPEAKER_07: And so we're gonna have a brandy single barrel there.
- 27:57SPEAKER_07: From Copper and Kings?
- 27:58SPEAKER_07: I yeah, from Copper and Kings.
- 28:01SPEAKER_07: I believe it was a 10-year brandy that spent its entire life in a used weller barrel.
- 28:12SPEAKER_07: So it was very light, uh floral, a lot of lemon notes to it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_07: It was kind of the unanimous favorite.
- 28:22SPEAKER_07: Let's see, uh dark arts.
- 28:25SPEAKER_07: We actually picked two at dark arts.
- 28:28SPEAKER_07: I pulled up the notes on that when we were talking about dark arts a second ago.
- 28:32SPEAKER_07: See if I can find that one again.
- 28:34SPEAKER_07: I know one was a Mizanara.
- 28:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah, a seven and a half year bourbon finished with uh toasted Mizanara Oak Saves at 118 proof, and then an eight and a half year bourbon finished an Olorasso Sherry at a little over 115 proof.
- 28:52SPEAKER_07: So those are really nice.
- 28:54SPEAKER_07: And okay, go ahead.
- 28:57SPEAKER_07: Heaven Hill is gonna do a pick this year.
- 29:00SPEAKER_07: Jackson Purchase distillery.
- 29:04SPEAKER_07: That would be Craig Bean, their distiller.
- 29:06SPEAKER_07: They are if you go a couple miles west past their distillery, I think you're in Missouri.
- 29:15SPEAKER_07: It is as far as you can go in Kentucky.
- 29:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 29:20SPEAKER_07: Let's see, Jeff the Creed will be doing a pick.
- 29:24SPEAKER_07: Leapers Fork down in uh Franklin, Tennessee.
- 29:28SPEAKER_07: You know, and that one that was done blind.
- 29:31SPEAKER_07: And a Tennessee whiskey did win the show on that one, so they'll be bringing Tennessee whiskey.
- 29:36SPEAKER_07: But I kind of think that's also fitting for a Tennessee distillery.
- 29:44SPEAKER_07: Doing another one this year, and then Whiskey Thief will be on board again.
- 29:50SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 29:50SPEAKER_07: So got several to choose from.
- 29:52SPEAKER_07: I think those, you know, also I recommend people go try those.
- 29:55SPEAKER_07: Uh make sure you try those single barrel picks before they sell out so you can grab one.
- 30:01SPEAKER_07: You know, that they've been great.
- 30:02SPEAKER_07: Unfortunately, last year I wasn't able to get one of all the barrel picks.
- 30:07SPEAKER_07: I didn't have time to do it.
- 30:09SPEAKER_07: Some I wish I got more.
- 30:11SPEAKER_07: Like I I've actually got the short barrel here from last year.
- 30:14SPEAKER_07: You know, that was a 7.8 year.
- 30:18SPEAKER_07: I've actually an old Ozzy Tyler barrel, you know, and we picked that blind over a 10-year barden.
- 30:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, but some really good single barrels, so I recommend people go try those and get them while you can.
- 30:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:31SPEAKER_01: So that so those will be for sale.
- 30:36SPEAKER_01: Like the now, the Tennessee person one, that'll be that they don't have a Kentucky license.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: That their pick will be for sale at the the bottle, the bottle shop, right?
- 30:47SPEAKER_01: Through Capital Sellers or whatever.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: And then the other places, all those will be at their booths.
- 30:53SPEAKER_07: At everybody's well, the short barrel, short barrel's out of Georgia, so they will also be.
- 30:59SPEAKER_07: No, I don't know if it'll be set up the same.
- 31:00SPEAKER_07: Usually it's sort of that little semicircle area.
- 31:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I remember what it was like sellers in the middle, and then the the out-of-state distilleries kind of loop around.
- 31:09SPEAKER_07: Is French lick coming this year?
- 31:12SPEAKER_07: Uh as far as I know.
- 31:13SPEAKER_07: Okay.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: I wasn't sure.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: I haven't heard of it.
- 31:17SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I'm fairly certain they're on the list.
- 31:19SPEAKER_07: And I I think we're what?
- 31:20SPEAKER_07: We're up at 70 plus or 80 again this year, so it's hard to keep them off straight sometimes.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: No, I get it.
- 31:27SPEAKER_01: I just hope that I there's Alan's stuff is aging there.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: I I'll probably pick up a cup.
- 31:33SPEAKER_01: I don't get a get a chance to get there as much because there's not as much of a reason to go there right now because that not a lot happens.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: But the stuff that they're releasing, you know, we don't see up here in Ohio, so I'll be definitely interested in that.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: But everybody else that's from Kentucky, they'll sell from their booths.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: Now, can they do special releases that are not barrel picks from their booths, also?
- 31:59SPEAKER_07: Yeah, so the the out-of-state distilleries, like I said, they they work with are you talking about the out-of-state specific?
- 32:05SPEAKER_07: No, no, I'm talking about the Kentucky distillers.
- 32:07SPEAKER_07: Oh, yeah.
- 32:08SPEAKER_07: So that they can bring really whatever they want.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: So Macaulay, if he wants to bring something that's what special, because he seems to be just owning the world lately.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Um that's good to know.
- 32:21SPEAKER_01: So they'll so that is one aspect that the festival has evolved into.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: And I've always, you know, from the first point when I was at Kentucky Bourbon Festival, and those rules changed, and there we were at Bourbon in the air, and all of a sudden Heaven Hill was coming out.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: It was the like the second year out of COVID, not the first year that they did it was like directly in COVID, but the second year they released a couple special releases and people went nuts.
- 32:55SPEAKER_01: And I'm just like, well, Kentucky festivals can take advantage of something because these distillers can bring stuff that they can release that you might not ever be able to get any other time.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: And so that's kind of a fun special thing about coming to this festivals.
- 33:14SPEAKER_01: You know, yeah, you got to bring your pocketbook, but overall, there's some bottles that get released that you're not gonna see on your shelf and that, you know, only might be from the distillery.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: And the if you're from Ohio or you're from Tennessee and you're coming up to Bourbon on the banks, you're gonna get you're gonna be able to get some of these collectible sought-after bottles.
- 33:38SPEAKER_01: Not from the big guys, because usually the big guys just kind of have their standard stuff there.
- 33:44SPEAKER_01: And and you know, I like for instance, I like the last year, Buffalo Trace and Jim Beam, they weren't selling there.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: You know, there that's not that's the they they were tasting, and you could taste through a distributor, but you know, but you know, where the where bourbon on the banks just excels is those craft distillers who are just making a name for themselves.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And you've got the owners, you've got the master distillers, you got them all there, correct?
- 34:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and and I will say that Heaven Hill will be selling at their booth this year.
- 34:17SPEAKER_07: Wow, right because they are doing fair big and then so I don't know what else they will have there, but yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Are they bringing anybody special?
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: I mean, all I see is Connor O'Driscoll across the country.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: He has been everywhere.
- 34:34SPEAKER_09: We are working on it.
- 34:36SPEAKER_09: I don't we we don't want to make any commitments, but at least for the VIP, Friday night VIP reception and auction, which uh I don't want to segue you to that until you're ready to, but we have asked for one of the superstars from Heaven Hill to be there.
- 34:51SPEAKER_09: They'll be pouring something special at that as well.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 34:55SPEAKER_09: Well, I we have got a commitment yet.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna ask about the VIP this year.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about the VIP, you know, what's happening with that.
- 35:04SPEAKER_09: Sure.
- 35:05SPEAKER_09: Well, we've had a VIP auction, I guess, since the beginning of the festival.
- 35:11SPEAKER_09: Maybe not the first year, but what we have for the last several years.
- 35:16SPEAKER_09: And so we usually get a collection of items.
- 35:21SPEAKER_09: And I've told we are getting it again this year from Buffalo Trace.
- 35:24SPEAKER_09: Buffalo Trace is usually our big star of that event.
- 35:30SPEAKER_09: And then we get some from local charities that we provide an avenue for them to sell bottles and the and the proceeds go back to the charity.
- 35:41SPEAKER_09: And downtown Frankfurt Inc., the economic development driver for uh the the an events planner for downtown Frankfurt, takes a commission for their that's kind of their event that we partner with them on.
- 35:55SPEAKER_09: So there'll be some papies in there.
- 35:57SPEAKER_09: There'll be some, I think we got an E.H.
- 36:00SPEAKER_09: Taylor cured oak.
- 36:02SPEAKER_09: I don't know if y'all have heard of that before.
- 36:05SPEAKER_09: I know that that's coming from the Frankfurt Elks Lodge.
- 36:08SPEAKER_09: I've I've been I've been talking to Frankfurt Elks Lodge.
- 36:10SPEAKER_09: They got they sell by the drink and they got a good allocation and they put several good bottles in.
- 36:16SPEAKER_09: I talk to them every year about what they should put into the auction.
- 36:20SPEAKER_09: And so yeah, and then then Larrickin, bourbon company out of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, they are the the sponsor of that.
- 36:27SPEAKER_09: And so they will, as they did last year, have a barrel pick, you know, so a barrel pick experience that you can bid on.
- 36:36SPEAKER_09: And then Whiskey Thief will have a barrel pick experience as well in the auction.
- 36:44SPEAKER_09: And that experience is a little bit different.
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: This first time we did it was last year, I believe.
- 36:48SPEAKER_09: Maybe we've done it for two years, but for sure at least one year.
- 36:52SPEAKER_09: And that's where you go to the distilleries with some parameters around what you can do, but you kind of do your own barrel that's going to age for four years.
- 37:02SPEAKER_09: I mean, you you pick the distillation process.
- 37:06SPEAKER_01: I mean, the one that they but when they first did this, it's it's aging there.
- 37:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, it it's a it's a cool experience.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, I think people you you people just don't understand realistically that what that is.
- 37:21SPEAKER_01: I mean, you you know, you're you're you're donating it's basically raising money for charity and you're doing that, and that that that that that event is there, but when you think about it, people, you know, it's it's it's under it's undervalued in their head because they don't really know what it is.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: And I think now you guys are getting it out and people are starting to understand exactly what it is.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:50SPEAKER_09: So there so the distilleries that'll be pouring that night, we've asked them to bring their VIPs, like Freddie Johnson would probably be there for Buffalo Trace.
- 38:02SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 38:03SPEAKER_09: And we've also asked them to bring special pours that they do not plan on sharing on Saturday.
- 38:13SPEAKER_09: And one reason we suggest that we we're not forcing them to, we can't force them to, but the thought is that a lot of special may not want to break on Saturday because you know there's over 2,000 people there.
- 38:30SPEAKER_09: But for the Friday night event, I think the cap is like 250 people.
- 38:34SPEAKER_09: So it's it's a a little bit easier for them to manage having a a special whiskey pour there for that size audience for the tastings that go with that event.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 38:44SPEAKER_01: And you gave me my my goal either to talk to Greg or Walter about trying to come have them bring me, bring them, bring me along.
- 38:57SPEAKER_09: Well, you can always be the high bidder on Friday night.
- 39:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:01SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 39:03SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not talking about the the purchase just to get into the VIP event because that's that's not the VIP event.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm I you know I'm media.
- 39:13SPEAKER_07: So I would say for you know, for for bourbon people like last year, like I said at uh Buffalo Trace, you know, they poured like, you know, Weller foolproof, I think, some some different pours.
- 39:28SPEAKER_07: But then Freddie was there, Augusta was there, and it was actually, I think, Alex Castles who was running the Augusta booth that evening.
- 39:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:37SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 39:37SPEAKER_07: And so it's nice to go around, see some of the distillers and other people, have some pours that are a little special.
- 39:43SPEAKER_07: But you know, in the charity event.
- 39:45SPEAKER_07: Alex is and like every year you you've had you've had times when people bid on a bottle, win it, and when the event's over, they crack that bottle open and share it with people.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: Oh God.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: And then take it, take it locally and then share it with everybody else.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: That was that was that night was was crazy.
- 40:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I just I was just sitting back, and I and and you gotta go to the local establishments and uh throughout the town, and that's where, but I was sitting back and I never I at the time the distiller at the time was it Daryl or Derek, Daryl, yeah, what from Whiskey Thief got let go.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, Hunter?
- 40:33SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, no, Derek.
- 40:38SPEAKER_01: Derek, yes.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: I was sitting next to Derek's girlfriend or spouse, and she's like, you just sit here and people just bring you stuff.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, I'm like, yeah, that's that's kind of what I do.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: And it's let's just like I always found that it's just the same thing when it comes, as you know, Amzi, when it comes to bottles and stuff, you can you can try and track bottles down and hunt them and all that kind of stuff.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: But the best way to do it in bourbon that I've found is you just let it you just sit back and see what happens.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: You know, you let you just have it come to you, let it come to you because it will.
- 41:19SPEAKER_01: If you if you try too hard, usually it that's what what you know, and then and that is one thing.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: This is one festival that if you sit back and you let those experiences and everything happen, it's there's so much that happens.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just like, you know, and and the one Freddie two years ago was just walking around the festival because he was there.
- 41:43SPEAKER_01: He wasn't there just because Buffalo Trace was there.
- 41:47SPEAKER_01: He was there because he was experiencing the festival and he was just talking to everybody.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: We had some chairs that we auctioned off for charity at our at our booth, and you know, gate, and and he, you know, he was sitting in the chair, everybody sat in the chair and signed it.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: Anybody, and that was really a cool kind of thing.
- 42:06SPEAKER_01: And that's just letting it letting it all happen, and that's just part of bourbon, right?
- 42:12SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and you know, and and and I I can't say enough about Freddie.
- 42:16SPEAKER_07: I mean, Freddie is just such a terrific human.
- 42:19SPEAKER_07: You know, he he's he's from here, he's from Frankfurt, he knows this festival is improving our community, and he he helps a lot.
- 42:29SPEAKER_07: He makes sure he's around.
- 42:30SPEAKER_07: He was born into bourbon.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: He's born into bourbon.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, for his dad, it's it's just like he's not he's known nothing, but so he's just the epitome of what you want bourbon to be.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: You know, he's not it's it's about what you your palate and what you like.
- 42:48SPEAKER_01: You know, don't tell other people what oh you know what they should be, you know.
- 42:52SPEAKER_01: He he he gets it all, you know, and then you get it's funny because as you get to know him, you can at first he'll give you the spiel two, three times.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: And then once he knows you and can recognize you, you don't you don't get that, you just get real kind of friendship from from Freddie.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: And you that man has to have like a hundred thousand friends.
- 43:16SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 43:17SPEAKER_07: You know, his other advice that I think you kind of want you talked about, your experience at the festival, is you know, don't save that special bottle, open it and drink it with friends, enjoy it while you can.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: That's why on our bus tour, that's what we do last year with those dowlings.
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, we opened up two of those and drank half on each bus.
- 43:39SPEAKER_01: And I shared it throughout every I shared it last year at Bourbon on the Banks.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: I shared it at every festival I went to till they were gone.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: This year on the bus, we have an I.W.
- 43:48SPEAKER_01: Harper, but it's uh it's not about buying something, you pay a lot of money for it, but it's it you it's to be drank, right?
- 43:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 43:58SPEAKER_01: Oh, and just by the way, Amsey, when we were at House of Commons last year, to be able to, because of you and your friend, to be able to taste something that I thought I would never ever taste, I thank you for that.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, that was that's what it's all about, right?
- 44:18SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and you know, and I think he was in a good mood.
- 44:20SPEAKER_07: He had won the stop your bar raffle at the VIP event earlier that night.
- 44:26SPEAKER_07: And he and and Brian is one of our festival board members as well, I will say.
- 44:31SPEAKER_07: But yeah.
- 44:33SPEAKER_09: Well, uh speaking of House of Commons, they donate bottles to the auction as well.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, Dave is so such a I mean, I don't know.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: He is the he's from Frankfurt, obviously, right?
- 44:47SPEAKER_07: No, no, no, he's uh he has family from Frankfurt originally.
- 44:51SPEAKER_07: He grew up in Tennessee.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 44:53SPEAKER_01: So, but he sure gets what Frankfurt's about.
- 44:57SPEAKER_01: I he's one of the he's one of the kindest, coolest guys, I think.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just met him, and the from the second I met him, we were friends.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: I mean, I just did I didn't even know I was his friend until I knew I was his friend, but he was friends with me.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: I was just like, how is this happening?
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: But he's just he's such a good guy.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: And now go ahead.
- 45:25SPEAKER_07: Yeah, and l love that place, you know.
- 45:27SPEAKER_07: They probably have what, 300 bottles open any given time, maybe 400.
- 45:33SPEAKER_07: You could try any of them by the half ounce.
- 45:36SPEAKER_07: So every time I go in there, I just tell them to surprise me with the flight.
- 45:40SPEAKER_07: And I can't you it's uh it's fun.
- 45:42SPEAKER_07: Now the other thing.
- 45:43SPEAKER_07: Like I said, he has family from Frankfurt.
- 45:46SPEAKER_07: Now, don't try this the weekend of Bourbon on the Banks because they're too busy.
- 45:50SPEAKER_07: But if you're in there another time, ask him about I think it's his great-grandmother's birth certificate.
- 45:58SPEAKER_07: She was actually born in the infirmary at what is now Buffalo Trade.
- 46:03SPEAKER_07: So on her birth certificate, he has a copy of it.
- 46:06SPEAKER_07: Her birthplace is listed as OFC distillery.
- 46:09SPEAKER_07: Oh my God.
- 46:11SPEAKER_07: Well I said, don't try to ask him to see that.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: Well, I can ask him.
- 46:15SPEAKER_01: He's on the bus tour this year.
- 46:16SPEAKER_01: I'll ask him on the bus tour.
- 46:18SPEAKER_01: That'll be cool.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:20SPEAKER_01: That and uh am I mistaken, or does your corner does your corner office just look down at House of Commons?
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 46:30SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 46:30SPEAKER_07: So when I leave work, I uh I look right and try and decide if I go to House of Commons, or do I look left and go to the parking garage and head home?
- 46:39SPEAKER_07: Although it's a tough decision sometimes.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: The way you explain it to Destiny is I just had to say hi to Dave.
- 46:47SPEAKER_07: Well, we have the little thing on our phone, so we can, you know, I can see where she is.
- 46:53SPEAKER_07: So she'll call and say, uh, where where are you?
- 46:55SPEAKER_07: And I'll say, You know where I am.
- 46:57SPEAKER_01: So um yeah.
- 46:59SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:02SPEAKER_01: She said, Tell Dave I said hello.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, honestly, when you go in there, he makes it so friendly.
- 47:09SPEAKER_01: It's not like you have to you have to have a lot.
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: It's just like you want to go there to hang out with them.
- 47:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's just that the whole place is so cool, and they do the coolest drinks.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's that the attention to detail.
- 47:25SPEAKER_01: And then to convince me that clicks tastes better than anything you whatever, and he he made a drink, and it you could not deny that it just tasted cleaner and better.
- 47:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, so there's so much that you know you can he that that's that's available at the House of Commons.
- 47:47SPEAKER_01: But yes, but that's part of it.
- 47:49SPEAKER_01: I'm fairly certain.
- 47:50SPEAKER_07: I'm fairly certain that would be the most affordable clicks vodka martini you will ever buy.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Well, it was really affordable.
- 47:57SPEAKER_01: I think they saw more clicks than probably anybody.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, you could the king of clicks, but yes, yeah, but I will tell you that I didn't, yeah, it was really affordable because he did a taste test to me and I didn't even order it.
- 48:12SPEAKER_01: It's like he's like, you gotta see the difference.
- 48:15SPEAKER_01: And just like, and he made it with he made it with clicks, he made it with the hundred distilled one from Buffalo Trace, and then he made it with just Wheatley vodka.
- 48:26SPEAKER_01: He made three, and I'm just like, as I went, I couldn't tell that much of a difference between Wheatley and the Hunter, but you could tell the clicks just was like clean.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: I mean, just I'm like, I don't even know how that happens.
- 48:39SPEAKER_01: I go, you're cheating.
- 48:41SPEAKER_01: And he goes, No, I'm not.
- 48:43SPEAKER_07: But, anyways, so let's talk about the So I I accidentally purchased a bottle of clicks or won a bottle of clicks in an auction.
- 48:52SPEAKER_07: You won an auction to buy one?
- 48:54SPEAKER_07: Yeah, it was donated by Dave to a charity auction here in town.
- 48:58SPEAKER_07: And I've always wanted it, but I would probably never spend, you know,$300,$350 on a bottle of vodka.
- 49:05SPEAKER_07: And so I bid up to that amount and I was done.
- 49:08SPEAKER_07: And then our executive director, Diane Strong, asked me a question.
- 49:14SPEAKER_07: I looked at her, not the auctioneer, and nodded.
- 49:18SPEAKER_07: And I heard, we got$450 back in the back.
- 49:21SPEAKER_07: And yeah, so I ended up winning that for$450 to Diane.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Diane, set you up.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: She's like, oh God.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: I know Amsey can he can handle that.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:33SPEAKER_07: You know, and the auctioneer was not Renee.
- 49:36SPEAKER_09: You know, not with me.
- 49:37SPEAKER_09: But as an auctioneer, I'd tell you, somebody nods, I'm taking her bid.
- 49:42SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 49:44SPEAKER_07: He warned us at the beginning.
- 49:45SPEAKER_07: He said, hey, this is a charity auction.
- 49:48SPEAKER_07: And uh, I made definite eye contact every time I bid, raised my hand, and then the next time I'm looking at Diane and nodding, and I get, yeah.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: So although I will tell you that that probably about six, seven years ago, that would have been insanely shocking to me.
- 50:06SPEAKER_01: But if that's been recent, probably not, because you know, all of our what would you say, evolution of buying bottles has definitely we've been worn, worn down to pay that type of, you know, to pay that type of money.
- 50:24SPEAKER_01: It's still a lot of money.
- 50:26SPEAKER_01: I'm not saying it, but there are times where you can rationalize.
- 50:30SPEAKER_01: And I I just I um Jim Gaffigan, uh, my cousin was like, because he's gonna be at Father Time, he has the father time bourbon, and so he's gonna be at another festival.
- 50:42SPEAKER_01: But he, my cousin was like, Did you hear his bourbon special?
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: I go, I I watched it live when he did it, but he he was playing it, and one of the, you know, he's just talking about the evolution of a bourbon, what how you start off.
- 50:55SPEAKER_01: And one was you rationalize how you know what you're like at the fourth stage, is that you make a purchase that you're that you that you hide from your wife.
- 51:07SPEAKER_01: And usually when you convince yourself to spend$375,$400 on a bottle, you're figuring out that, well, I just won't show her that receipt.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: If she finds out, she finds out, but otherwise, I'm not saying anything.
- 51:19unknown: Yeah.
- 51:21SPEAKER_07: I would have felt a little bit better beef.
- 51:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 51:24SPEAKER_07: You know.
- 51:25unknown: Yeah.
- 51:26SPEAKER_07: I was almost embarrassed to mention that on these country bourbon boys podcasts.
- 51:32SPEAKER_01: There's but it's clicks.
- 51:34SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know, anybody who put it this way if you go, if you've been to the House of Commons, you were there's no one here.
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: We've all been convinced, and you shouldn't be embarrassed because he convinces you that that's the only vodka that you should probably ever drink.
- 51:53SPEAKER_01: It's just it, right?
- 51:55SPEAKER_01: I mean, I would even say that Fred Fred Minnick wouldn't say that sucked.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: That one.
- 52:02SPEAKER_01: That's the one he wouldn't.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: So that's the VIP event.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: Now talk about what about what's happening outside all the do you guys have all the events that are happening around the festival?
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: Because Diane usually does that.
- 52:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well, we've covered Thursday pretty well.
- 52:19SPEAKER_09: We still have two more events on Friday, and as Antie mentioned before Roses Pub stro, it it continues on.
- 52:28SPEAKER_09: But there's a food pairing with Boondocks distillery, is the distiller for that, and Peggy knows Stevens.
- 52:37SPEAKER_09: So this is our third year, I think, that she's done this.
- 52:40SPEAKER_09: I think we we do still have tickets for that.
- 52:43SPEAKER_09: It's in the afternoon Friday.
- 52:45SPEAKER_09: You still have plenty of time to go to the VIP and and do other things.
- 52:50SPEAKER_09: So that is I I've been to that every year, and it I mean it's awesome.
- 52:54SPEAKER_09: It's a good time.
- 52:55SPEAKER_09: I have to back it down a little bit because I have to be the auctioneer for that night, so I can't over-indulge too much.
- 53:02SPEAKER_09: And it's at the Kentucky History Center, same place where the VIP auction is.
- 53:06SPEAKER_09: And there's still tickets available for both of those.
- 53:08SPEAKER_09: And then there's the free community event.
- 53:11SPEAKER_09: It's really kind of part of our giving back.
- 53:14SPEAKER_09: It's called Bourbon Street on Broadway, and it's where we have circus performers and singers and the Kentucky State University band, which if you haven't seen the Kentucky State University band, they're absolutely awesome.
- 53:25SPEAKER_09: They're, you know, you you you just haven't seen them.
- 53:28SPEAKER_09: If you haven't seen the form, you you you need to check them out.
- 53:31SPEAKER_09: And some of these things overlap, so you can't necessarily go to all of them.
- 53:35SPEAKER_09: You can't go to the VIP and Burns are on Broadway.
- 53:37SPEAKER_09: Well, you can, but you're going to you know miss some things.
- 53:40SPEAKER_09: But that's a free event and and it's a family-oriented event.
- 53:44SPEAKER_09: You you know, bring the kids, the whole deal, to downtown Frankfurt.
- 53:48SPEAKER_09: Let's see, MZ, what what else we got going on before we get into Saturday a little bit more, I guess.
- 53:59SPEAKER_09: Uh yeah, I think so.
- 54:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:01SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 54:02SPEAKER_09: Uh on the Saturday event, uh, you know, we talked about some of the new things.
- 54:07SPEAKER_09: One of the things that we we didn't mention yet is we uh reached out, I don't know if we reached out to them because we've developed a relationship with Peggy No Stevens and some of the other people with Bourbon Women.
- 54:19SPEAKER_09: They're gonna have a tent on Saturday.
- 54:22SPEAKER_09: And they're gonna have three different programs at uh different times.
- 54:25SPEAKER_09: I don't have those memorized, but Susan Regler's gonna do a presentation.
- 54:30SPEAKER_09: Peggy Noah Stevens is gonna do another presentation different than the one on Friday.
- 54:35SPEAKER_09: And then uh Jen for Bryan, who is a cocktail expert, is gonna do a presentation in the Bourbon Women's Tent, and it's free.
- 54:43SPEAKER_09: And when I say it's free, once you're in the event, you don't have to pay extra to go to the bourbon women tent, and you don't have to be a woman to go to the bourbon women tent.
- 54:51SPEAKER_09: So that's something new that we're adding this year.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 54:55SPEAKER_01: That that's excellent.
- 54:57SPEAKER_01: So there's gonna be so instead of just distilleries and and you know, and people uh different different certain people, you're gonna have like an event, like there's gonna be a events happening right there at a certain time that everybody can check out.
- 55:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and it's the that one is presented by Mary Dowling Whiskey.
- 55:20SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 55:20SPEAKER_09: So that that'll be the whiskey that they'll be pouring at that event.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: Excellent.
- 55:26SPEAKER_01: Now, one do you have to sign up or is it just you it's just gonna be at the bed and just come in?
- 55:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, there's no ticket sales or anything.
- 55:36SPEAKER_09: It's one of them's at three, one of them's at one o'clock, three o'clock, five o'clock, something like that.
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: That's that's amazing.
- 55:45SPEAKER_01: So that sounds that's that's exciting.
- 55:47SPEAKER_01: So I'm glad, and everybody who's coming to Bourbon on the Banks, that should be a good time.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: I've never actually met Peggy No Stevens in person, so I look forward to at least you know seeing her.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: I actually tried right before I had um Lou Bryson coming up for he had released his book right before COVID hit.
- 56:12SPEAKER_01: And the the week that Ohio closed down from Pennsylvania, he was supposed to drive up to Chicago, so he was gonna go through here and actually be a part of our Scotchy Bourbon Boys Club meeting.
- 56:30SPEAKER_01: We used to have meetings once a month, and I had him scheduled, and then I had Peggy knows Stevens coming up to come up to Jervasi and do a because she had just released her book, which had to do with pairing food.
- 56:45SPEAKER_01: What was it?
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: The fork I forget the name exactly, but she was supposed to come up and do an event at Jervasi Vineyards that's right by my house that I was setting up, and then it just blew it all up.
- 57:00SPEAKER_01: It was like nobody did anything for the next two and a half years.
- 57:07SPEAKER_01: So, yeah.
- 57:08SPEAKER_07: Oh, one one big thing I would say before you go to the festival on Saturday.
- 57:14SPEAKER_07: It is important to eat a nice meal beforehand.
- 57:20SPEAKER_07: So you should go have brunch at Cypress and Oak.
- 57:24SPEAKER_07: That's a new restaurant in Frankfurt.
- 57:27SPEAKER_07: They were open last year, right before the festival, I think.
- 57:29SPEAKER_07: It's in the Delegate Hotel.
- 57:31SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 57:32SPEAKER_07: It's a terrific steakhouse.
- 57:34SPEAKER_07: They will be open for brunch that morning before the festival.
- 57:39SPEAKER_07: I forgot what time they actually opened.
- 57:41SPEAKER_07: 10 a.m.
- 57:42SPEAKER_07: They'll be open for breakfast or for brunch.
- 57:44SPEAKER_07: So like I said, really great place.
- 57:47SPEAKER_07: Recommend you go there and fuel up before you go to the festival.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: That is weird.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 57:56SPEAKER_01: We've been getting lots of lots of comments, and my comments aren't scrolling.
- 57:59SPEAKER_01: It just said 22 new comments.
- 58:02SPEAKER_01: All right, so that's that's awesome.
- 58:05SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: We always had we there's also the a diner that we went to breakfast to last year, right before.
- 58:12SPEAKER_01: Uh I didn't take Roxy to it because she's not really cool with diners.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:18SPEAKER_01: But that was Main Street diner?
- 58:21SPEAKER_01: No, I think it was no, there was the Main Street diner we've eaten there, but there was the one that's kind of like over a little bit outside of town.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's like before you start heading into the hills.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: It's just right on the side.
- 58:35unknown: Yeah.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: Shelby's.
- 58:36SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: Shelby's diner.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was it.
- 58:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 58:39SPEAKER_01: It was funny because the woman that was cooking that day was not the person who was supposed to be cooking.
- 58:45SPEAKER_01: She was just filling in because their cooks didn't show up.
- 58:49SPEAKER_01: So that was a fun, that was a fun, you know, they have an open grill and she's just cooking for everybody.
- 58:57SPEAKER_01: But it was like they called in somebody's mom.
- 58:59SPEAKER_01: So although she wasn't cooking as fast as she should have been, she was cooking good.
- 59:05SPEAKER_01: So it was still a good breakfast.
- 59:07SPEAKER_01: So yeah, but that's one thing.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: That's that's the whole the the family orientation of Frankfurt, of the small town aspect.
- 59:16SPEAKER_01: And there, you guys have done and and the the distilleries and you guys have just put such a good face on Frankfurt.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: I mean, the people you the where it was when I first started going there, I mean, the main street, not the grill, but the bourbon on Main was there at the that's what it's called.
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: The bar.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: Bourbon on Main.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: But there wasn't a lot more, but it's just grown so much bigger.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: And you know, and then what I you gotta get Bo Cumberland uh of kudos on what he's done as far as the Frankfurt area and promoting the the hotel and you just some of the documentaries that he's done on the area.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_07: Yeah, yeah, his work's his work's okay, as I tell him all the time.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_09: So it's just like you can you can link his work off the bourbon on the banks.org website.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_09: He has some of his videos on there.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: So he just keeps getting better and better.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's just like it's just like every time you watch, and then I'm just always amazed that he's done he's been a part of the bus tour and he's done the bus tour videos.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_01: He's he's gonna be coming out with a whole putting all the bus tours together in one and making it, you know, a little bit of documentary of of the Scotchy Bourbon Boys bus tour.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_01: So I'm looking forward to that.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: But all right, so you come to the festival, you got the the three tiers of you got the early, and then now it you're starting what so what's this new start time?
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_01: You were talking about an early start.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_09: Well, starting at at noon instead of one o'clock.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_09: We we were able to work out some logistics to allow some people to start setting up the day before.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_09: I mean, a lot of the vendors are setting up that morning, and we've been, you know, nervous or cautious, I guess, about starting the festival too early.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_09: Uh but we've we've figured out some things.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_09: We've gotten better at the logistics.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_09: Our our friend Eric Northcutt, who handles logistics, and Diane would not want to do the festival without him, or anybody else would not want to do it without him.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_09: He keeps coming up with ways for us to expand, add things, and you know, be able to make it work, make the festival work better.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_09: So we we we have grown a little bit that way.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_09: And just having all in the types of tickets.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_07: Yeah, I was saying, and to clarify, that's the special access ticket that gets in at noon.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_07: And the early access is one o'clock.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_01: Special access noon, early access one, and the festival starts at two.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_01: For regular access.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_07: Special access that we used to call VIP, but there was confusion with the VIP on Friday night.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_07: So special access gets you access to a tent with some snacks, some fancier restrooms, usually some special samples are poured in there as well.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_07: And a pretty good food spread.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's part of your ticket price.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: No, I just I that's what you should do.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: You guys, you guys know it's bourbon.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_01: When you when you talk about certain things and then you talk about people in bourbon, there's a whole different dynamic to them as far as what they're willing to do and spend.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_01: And I'm not, this is not, it's not a bad thing.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_01: They work their asses off for what they do.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_01: You know, there you you very rarely find somebody who's got a bourbon collection that hasn't just figured out stuff in life about how, you know, they're not, they're not, they don't have a bourbon collection and they're not working and they're just whatever, they're doing nothing.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: There's nobody that in the bourbon, I've never found anybody yet that just does nothing.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: They always are doing something special.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_01: They're always, they're always in, you know, they're they're they're even the young kids, it's just hardworking people that want to spend their money on something that other hardworking people, that's the how they get to meet them.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_01: So it's like a big reason to to be how to find friends.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_01: And then, you know, each it's not a competition, it's a sharing.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_01: Everybody shares.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_01: People who have more money, they share their stuff.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_01: The people who have less, they share their stuff.
- 1:04:06SPEAKER_01: Everybody's just sharing, but the but having a special extra hour entry, I'm sure you didn't have any problem selling that.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_09: I think it's sold out in 45 minutes.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_01: It's just like those people, yeah.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: It's no, it's not insane.
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_01: It's just us.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_01: That's what we do.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_01: We want, I mean, it's just like someone asks me, what do I want in a bourbon?
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_01: I want, I want really good bourbon in the bottle, but I want it thought out, well packaged, and I want even extra packaging.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_01: That's the reason I got in initially is bookers.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's it.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was uncut, unfiltered.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_01: It was delicious, and it had the greatest packaging.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: You know, it's got the wax top with the over the beam logo with the raised thing, and then it's got the box.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_01: That's what we want.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: We want, and that's what a festival, as you guys as festivals, that what that's what you're delivering, right?
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_07: Well, and I think the other thing is remember that, like, you know, we we really want to be mindful of price, but every time we charge more for something, it's just so that we can then turn around and give that to charity.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_07: You know, we we really we are a charity-driven festival.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_07: I think our charities are driven towards children and families in need.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_07: And so I do think we really do make a difference in our community.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_07: And so anytime if anyone ever thinks we're trying to nickel and dime them on anything, just know Renee and I aren't getting any of that.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_07: That's all going to charity.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_07: You're not gonna be we have we we have just a couple paid employees, and the rest of us are volunteers.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_09: But that's our ticket prices are still low.
- 1:05:48SPEAKER_01: But that's you're not nickel and diming anybody.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: People pay Buffalo Trace sells bottles for$7,800, one bottle of bourbon, and people buy it.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_01: So, how how is a ticket to an event where you get to taste bourbon from everybody, including some special bottles?
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: You know, even at the fest, the general admission festival, there's the distilleries still, there's certain distilleries that still want to give you something special.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_01: And it's just like, and you get to taste, and and it's just like you're not, and those tickets, those aren't$7,800.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: It's just like and for for what do you get?
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_01: You get the special entry, you're VIP, you you're part of that VIP pouring event where you get Freddie Johnson showing up, and you get you might get Conor O'Drisco, maybe, maybe not, but you get the people that and and that's that's you know, and those people who are spending money on that, that's cheap.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: You're giving what you're doing for them right there is cheap.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_01: And it goes for a good cause.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_07: So, and you guys definitely every every next year, next year's$7,800 ticket.
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_07: And um we got people that carry you around on your chair up above.
- 1:07:13SPEAKER_01: So yeah, they you just you get the you get the Caesar treatment.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah, Jeff, we were able to give back a hundred thousand dollars to local charities last year.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_01: I I so I believe that so much, and you guys are but it this year you'll this community and the aspect of this part of what bourbon is doing is not dropping off.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_01: It's still going strong and growing.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_01: You know, that's the part that you know when the The special bourbon.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_01: I admit, when you're talking about the general, you know, you know, 80% of what people buy for bourbon, which is to drink and it's not anything, it's just drinking, that's that's that's going down a little bit.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_01: But when you're talking about the people in the bourbon lifestyle that enjoy it for sipping and tasting and all the different things, I mean, I don't care.
- 1:08:11SPEAKER_01: Like I said, if you're in this community, you might not have the money that some other people have, but if you do it right and treat people right, you're gonna get to taste some stuff with some people who can afford to let to help you taste that.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_01: That's the great thing about the community.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_09: And you guys well, and that's that's the Twilight tickets.
- 1:08:36SPEAKER_09: I mean, that's one reason we have them is the local community.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_09: I mean, that's a that's at a like$45 price point.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_09: Sure, you only get two hours, but you know, if if you want to experience the festival, be honest, some of the people that came early are already starting to leave.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_09: So and that was part of our thought process with it.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_09: And so, you know, I mean that's I mean, I don't know.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_09: Where you can go for$45.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_01: I know all I'm gonna say is is you like whiskey, but you're not gonna be able to get your wife to go all day to a festival, but you can probably convince her to go for two hours and then go out to dinner.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_01: And that's that's that's that's it, right?
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_09: That's the Twilight.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_09: Hey, and not only Tiny, so we just so we wrap up the the festival activities, we have an after party right there where you where you come in.
- 1:09:28SPEAKER_09: We'll have two bands that night that is being sponsored by Hauser Tavern, which is right on St.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_09: Clair, right on right across the street from Amsey's shop, and Buffalo Trace.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_09: Those are our sponsors for that.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_09: So after you know you've been at the festival, as you're walking out, you'll see the stage and you'll see the bands that are that are playing there.
- 1:09:51SPEAKER_09: So then that and and that's open to anybody, whether they bought a ticket and attended or just walk in off the street.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_09: It's it's open.
- 1:09:59SPEAKER_09: There's no gates, there's no no no costs.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_01: Right there.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: That's that's fantastic.
- 1:10:08SPEAKER_01: That turns it into a local, that after party that the local people can come and party with all the people at the at from the festival.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_01: I think the Todd Ritter said Cliffside was the was the diner.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_01: Is that the diner?
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_01: Cliff was it called Oh, it could be could be.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: That's the one.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_09: I think that's in a car.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_09: You can't walk like that.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: No, we didn't walk to that that diner.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_01: That's where we had, that's where we had breakfast the other morning.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_01: Because the brunch was full at the what was what's the place in the hotel?
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_01: You Cypress and Oak.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_01: We walked in and the brunch that day was we full, so we went over to Cliffside.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_01: But all right, so now that's Saturday night.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_01: There's there's an afternoon, and everybody lets out into the the streets of Frankfurt.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: So that that goes on for a while on Saturday night, that's for sure.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_01: You see a lot of people out there.
- 1:11:15SPEAKER_01: Make sure that you find a place to dine because and and keep your base going if you're gonna stay out late.
- 1:11:22SPEAKER_01: But and and there is a lot of stuff happening throughout the, you know, at the at the bars and restaurants and everything.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_01: But what about Sunday?
- 1:11:33SPEAKER_01: Now, do you guys have anything this year for Sunday?
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_01: No, okay.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_01: The one year you had the boat the boat tour, right?
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_01: The boat tour one time was on Sunday morning, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:11:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and we we did not have a good turnout for that, and so we have been reluctant to to really promote something.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_09: Usually we have a sponsor for any of these things, and we don't want to let our sponsors down by having an event that that just really doesn't sell.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_09: By Sunday morning, most people are having breakfast or brunch and they gotta head back home head back home.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:12:14unknown: Okay.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_07: They're prone to seasickness at that point and they don't want to get on the boat Sunday morning.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_01: Or or they they gotta sleep in, one or the other, right?
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: So that that's that that's gonna be this year 2026.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_07: Anything else that you guys didn't remember or what you want because how about a weather I would just go back a little bit to the a Thursday night kickoff at Whiskey Thief.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_07: If anyone hasn't been there or has never been to Whiskey Thief, you know, that place is a blast.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_07: You'll pay like whatever the normal cost is to get into Whiskey Thief, which would it's usually what,$20 or$25.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_07: But you know, that'll include samples, uh, they'll have the food truck open, a fire pit.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_07: They always have great live music.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_07: And great bourbon.
- 1:13:06SPEAKER_07: Yeah, cocktails, they sell cocktail nice cocktails, beer if you need to hydrate, I guess.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_07: But no, it's always a blast out there.
- 1:13:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, he knows.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_01: I was I think I was there last year because you were pouring, correct?
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_07: Yeah, uh, I think I was pouring samples of the single barrel pick.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_07: Single barrel pick for the best.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: I so yeah, I'm gonna try and get there.
- 1:13:35SPEAKER_01: I was gonna get there Friday, but I think since the that that's Thursday, I'll probably I'll probably head down on Thursday.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_01: But I'll gotta talk to Walter a little bit.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: I gotta figure out where I'm gonna stay because I've only got Friday, Saturday book so far.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_07: But Thursday, you make maybe a little easier for you to find a place Thursday night.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_01: The one time I went down for Whiskey Fest, I stayed at the bourbon.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_01: Have you ever that place?
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_01: That place was nice.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_01: I yeah, there's some really nice Airbnbs for bourbon people around there.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_01: And then if you have groups, I mean the the bigger groups, I mean, they have some luxurious places that if you that'll that'll sleep 16 guys or 16 eight couples, and it's like it's reasonable if you just split it up.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's just like a fantastic, it's fantastic in the air that area.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_01: You guys do it well.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_01: So do you guys got a second to have a couple people?
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: We'll finish this up real quick, and if anybody wants to come on and ask questions.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_01: All right, so uh we'll do that.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, website.
- 1:14:47SPEAKER_01: Who's got that?
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_01: Your website.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_01: Is it www.
- 1:14:51SPEAKER_08: No, uh yeah, bourbononthebanks.org.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_08: Bourbon on the banks.org.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_08: I thought you were talking about your website.
- 1:14:57SPEAKER_08: Not my website.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_08: I I could do that.
- 1:14:59SPEAKER_08: I thought you were trying to pick up questions and fly off your website.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you guys.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_01: Hey, here's a quick here's a quiz for you.

- 1:15:26SPEAKER_01: So you got the t-shirts and this stuff covered again this year, right?
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_01: As far as merchandise?
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_01: I mean, you does every year the merchandise just get bigger and bigger?
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_01: Or is it just stayed much the same?
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_09: We're so we we trademarked bourbon on the banks, and we've had some vendors wanting to use our logo on some of the things that they do.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_09: So we're we're going to try to work out some licensing agreements with some of those vendors.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_09: So hopefully our logo will be on more items this year than in the past.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's funny.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_01: You trademarked it and then it it what would you say?
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_01: It then kept it down.
- 1:16:14SPEAKER_01: It's all of a sudden you weren't able it, but but yeah, you got to figure that stuff out.
