- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up everybody? Welcome to move the sticks.
- 0:09Speaker 1: DJ.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Bucky Rhett back with you here as we look back
- 0:13Speaker 2: on a Monday night game that was as all Charger
- 0:16Speaker 2: games are down to the wire. Bucky Rhett joining in here. Buck.
- 0:20Speaker 3: How you doing, man, Man, I'm great state of Lily
- 0:22Speaker 3: watching that game. It was a great game, came down
- 0:25Speaker 3: to the wire. I feel for you based on your
- 0:27Speaker 3: Charges association. But a lot of Cowboys fans like every
- 0:30Speaker 3: game is like games, they must win game and you're
- 0:33Speaker 3: able to get it.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, every Chargers game is a little spicy.
- 0:38Speaker 1: You know, it's it's always coming out of the wire,
- 0:40Speaker 1: isn't it, Ditch?
- 0:41Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 0:42Speaker 2: No question? What's time for Monday night recap? Well, I
- 0:45Speaker 2: figure we just jump right into this game and I'll
- 0:47Speaker 2: lead us off here. Guys. Uh you know, I jokingly said,
- 0:51Speaker 2: it's it's the same every week. Every Charger game comes
- 0:54Speaker 2: down to the very end, win or lose. There's always
- 0:57Speaker 2: nail Byers, doesn't matter the opponent. They've got three losses
- 1:00Speaker 2: this year. They've had the ball in their possession late
- 1:03Speaker 2: in regulation, or in overtime with a chance to go
- 1:06Speaker 2: down and tie or win the game, and they have
- 1:09Speaker 2: been able to generate one first down on those three possessions.
- 1:13Speaker 2: They just haven't been able to do it when it matters,
- 1:15Speaker 2: and protection has been an issue. It's broken down. You
- 1:19Speaker 2: see it time and time again where teams are able
- 1:21Speaker 2: to get their best on the you know, the weaker
- 1:24Speaker 2: side of the line with the Chargers, and they got
- 1:27Speaker 2: after Trey Pipkins, Michael Parsons was able to get home
- 1:29Speaker 2: and then they end up having an interception late in
- 1:32Speaker 2: that ballgame. But really, I mean, look the defense. You
- 1:35Speaker 2: can look at it and say, oh ceedee, Lamb got loose.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Had some issues there, you know, broken plays, dumb penalties.
- 1:42Speaker 2: At the end of the day, he gave up twenty
- 1:43Speaker 2: points to a cowboy team that has a lot of weapons.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Offense has to do better than what they did last night,
- 1:49Speaker 2: and they had a great first drive. It looked like
- 1:51Speaker 2: they were going to be in a rhythm and never
- 1:53Speaker 2: able to get back in that rhythm again. And Buck's
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's a little demoralizing when you dial up a couple
- 2:00Speaker 2: shot plays which they did to Keenan Allen and he
- 2:02Speaker 2: gets wide open and Herbert just missed him. It wasn't
- 2:06Speaker 2: a sharp effort from the quarterback last night.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Yeah, the quarterback result to Mark you talk about one
- 2:11Speaker 3: of the best quarterbacks in the league just didn't have
- 2:12Speaker 3: his a game. Kellenmore did a great job of diagramming
- 2:16Speaker 3: those shot plays. Had plenty of big play opportunities there
- 2:19Speaker 3: for Justin Herbert take advantage if you just couldn't cash
- 2:22Speaker 3: in the lottery ticket. And in a game that is
- 2:24Speaker 3: going to be competitive like that, in most NFL games
- 2:27Speaker 3: are going to fall within their one score premise, you
- 2:29Speaker 3: have to be able to make those plays. And basketball
- 2:32Speaker 3: they talked about a make or miss league is very
- 2:33Speaker 3: similar in the NFL. You either make the big plays
- 2:36Speaker 3: or you don't, and if you don't, it really comes
- 2:38Speaker 3: back to bite you. But I will say this the
- 2:41Speaker 3: part that Hurst to charges their inability to run the
- 2:43Speaker 3: ball consistently. Austin Eckler couldn't get it going despite look,
- 2:48Speaker 3: they gave him plenty of attempts. They just couldn't run
- 2:50Speaker 3: the football. And when you're in a one dimensional game
- 2:53Speaker 3: plan against the Cowboys defense, this does a really good
- 2:55Speaker 3: job of rushing the passer and creating turnovers. It just
- 2:58Speaker 3: makes for a recipe for disaster for the Chargers offense.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, and look, I mean they were certainly pressuring justin
- 3:07Speaker 1: Herbert in fact, you know, pressure the most that he
- 3:09Speaker 1: had he had seen all season long in this game
- 3:12Speaker 1: about fifty percent of the dropbacks facing that pressure and
- 3:16Speaker 1: was not good in those situations. Completetion percentage was just
- 3:20Speaker 1: over forty. Passer rating was thirty three in those situations.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I feel like DJ generally he is better, He's better
- 3:28Speaker 1: than that against pressure. Is that just a way in
- 3:30Speaker 1: your mind from what you were watching, that, the way
- 3:33Speaker 1: in which you know Dallas is able to generate that,
- 3:35Speaker 1: or just just an off night kind of overall?
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, I think more than anything else is an off night.
- 3:40Speaker 2: But you know, you get pressure, and pressure has its
- 3:43Speaker 2: toll even when the pressure isn't there. In other words,
- 3:45Speaker 2: you see him hanging there, he gets hit that impacts
- 3:47Speaker 2: and throws, and then other times he's got a clean
- 3:50Speaker 2: pocket and he kind of drifts and kind of and
- 3:52Speaker 2: kind of falls into some pressure, which happened on a
- 3:55Speaker 2: few occasions. The other thing is Buck mentioned the fact
- 3:58Speaker 2: they couldn't run the football well. When you go back
- 4:00Speaker 2: and watch tape, as they did this morning. There's there
- 4:02Speaker 2: are a lot of RPOs they got caught with two penalties,
- 4:05Speaker 2: could have been three penalties. Where they've got lineman downfield
- 4:08Speaker 2: where he's pulling the ball and zipping it out on
- 4:10Speaker 2: the bubble, where you've got you know, you've got your option,
- 4:12Speaker 2: you can hand the ball off, Herbert could take it
- 4:14Speaker 2: and go where you can flip it out. There's a
- 4:16Speaker 2: couple times where they actually did get favorable looks in
- 4:18Speaker 2: the run game, and you've got trips and you've got
- 4:21Speaker 2: four over three outside and he's still trying to zip
- 4:24Speaker 2: the ball out there. Some of them got batted down,
- 4:26Speaker 2: some of them he had to tuck and go. He've
- 4:29Speaker 2: got to give that ball off. So there's some there's
- 4:31Speaker 2: some things they can correct there. I think that will
- 4:33Speaker 2: help their run game a little bit. But man, it's
- 4:35Speaker 2: hard to be one dimensional and win games when you
- 4:38Speaker 2: have no run game whatsoever on the other side of it.
- 4:41Speaker 2: And rhet I'll go back to you on this one.
- 4:43Speaker 2: This was by far the most impressed I've been with
- 4:45Speaker 2: Dak Prescott this year. We had looked at the GPS numbers,
- 4:49Speaker 2: how those had come way down. Well, all of a sudden,
- 4:51Speaker 2: out of nowhere. His GPS number spike popped. He get
- 4:53Speaker 2: over eighteen miles per hour on one of those runs,
- 4:56Speaker 2: So he looked he looked fresh, He used his legs.
- 4:59Speaker 2: He was sacked five times, he could have been sacked
- 5:01Speaker 2: ten times. He got out of a bunch of pressure
- 5:03Speaker 2: extended plays and made some things happen. But that was
- 5:06Speaker 2: a winning version of Dak Prescott, I thought, the best
- 5:08Speaker 2: we've seen him this year.
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think that just also shows you, you know, a
- 5:13Speaker 1: positive mentality for this team, you know they were facing.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I mean, the scrutiny obviously of the Star is heavy
- 5:20Speaker 1: each and every week, but especially when you go into
- 5:23Speaker 1: a game that's built as a heavyweight matchup and you
- 5:25Speaker 1: turn out to be the lightweight. You know, the week
- 5:27Speaker 1: before it was the negativity was loud, and it was
- 5:31Speaker 1: loud in Dak's direction, and I think that shows you
- 5:34Speaker 1: kind of the mental toughness this guy has in the
- 5:36Speaker 1: physical toughness as well. I mean that that pocket awareness
- 5:39Speaker 1: and and you know, ability to get to get away
- 5:42Speaker 1: from trouble right there and finding Tony Pollard, you know,
- 5:45Speaker 1: for that big play in the past game was obviously huge,
- 5:48Speaker 1: but yeah, Dak runs for a score that's a big deal.
- 5:52Speaker 1: And ceedee Lamb got targeted early and often, and that
- 5:56Speaker 1: was a big factor in this one too. Right he
- 5:59Speaker 1: goes for what what over one hundred. I do have
- 6:02Speaker 1: a question though, and Buck, I'd love to get your
- 6:04Speaker 1: thought on this, because we kind of talked about it
- 6:06Speaker 1: a lot going into the season. All Right, hey, this
- 6:08Speaker 1: is Tony Pollard's time to shine, right, you know, the
- 6:13Speaker 1: offensive line for the most part is the same as
- 6:15Speaker 1: it was a year ago. And we haven't seen as
- 6:18Speaker 1: much explosiveness from Tony Pollard in the run game.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Now.
- 6:21Speaker 4: You handed it to him fifteen times in this game.
- 6:23Speaker 1: And look, obviously the Chargers defense played pretty well here,
- 6:26Speaker 1: so give them some credit, but generated just thirty yards
- 6:28Speaker 1: and the majority of his damage is coming through the
- 6:31Speaker 1: pass game. Where are we at in the Cowboys usage
- 6:35Speaker 1: of Tony Pollard as kind of RB one.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Yeah, No, it hasn't gone according to plan. And it's
- 6:40Speaker 3: one of the fears that you have when you move
- 6:42Speaker 3: someone who's been a number two up to the number
- 6:44Speaker 3: one role. One of the reasons why when you talk
- 6:47Speaker 3: to Cowboys coaches previously, they talked about Zekiel Elliott kind
- 6:51Speaker 3: of being the everyday Sedan the guy that you drive
- 6:54Speaker 3: Monday through Friday, but on the weekends, Tony Pollard is
- 6:57Speaker 3: the sports card that you bring out. Now you're asking
- 7:00Speaker 3: Tony Polott as the sports car to be the every
- 7:02Speaker 3: day car. He's not necessarily built to do that, and
- 7:04Speaker 3: we're seeing the more that he gets it, the less
- 7:07Speaker 3: of the impacts the game. At some point, I think
- 7:10Speaker 3: the Cowboys gonna have to find a way to kind
- 7:11Speaker 3: of reshuffle the dick when it comes to their running
- 7:13Speaker 3: back situation. So they could allow Tony Poula to do
- 7:15Speaker 3: what he does best, complimentary player, big play player out
- 7:19Speaker 3: of the backfield. Someone else is going to have to
- 7:22Speaker 3: do to heavy lifting on those early downs.
- 7:23Speaker 2: He's not built to play that role. Yeah. Look, he's
- 7:27Speaker 2: just not a big guy. So finding a bigger back
- 7:29Speaker 2: to compliment him, I think will be part of what
- 7:31Speaker 2: they do in the offseason. Last thought to kind of
- 7:33Speaker 2: wrap this game up, guys, it was a close game,
- 7:36Speaker 2: came down to the very end. I think you could
- 7:38Speaker 2: summarize it this way. The stars for the team with
- 7:41Speaker 2: a star in their helmet just played a little better
- 7:43Speaker 2: than the stars for the charters when you look at it.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Back out and Herbert Micah Parsons outplayed Bosa in this game.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Bosa is a little nicked up. Derwin James had a
- 7:51Speaker 2: couple of costly penalties, didn't really make anything happen. It
- 7:55Speaker 2: was a case where the Cowboys best players, with seeding
- 7:58Speaker 2: lamb probably leading the way offense, they outplayed the Chargers
- 8:01Speaker 2: and they get away with a win, A big win
- 8:04Speaker 2: for the Dallas Cowboys. Hey, real quick, deal, all right,
- 8:07Speaker 2: let's go ahead, go ahead rtt yeah, real quick. You know.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Tom Pellisara was talking today about Leonard Fournette having a
- 8:13Speaker 1: bunch of suitors around the league right now. He's in
- 8:16Speaker 1: great shape and working out. You think the Cowboys might
- 8:18Speaker 1: be one to consider the services of Lombardi. Lenny.
- 8:23Speaker 4: I kind of liked that.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I kind of like that, right, that's actually, that's actually
- 8:27Speaker 2: that was worthy of interruption. Interruption, I will give you that.
- 8:30Speaker 2: That was it. That was good. That was good. That
- 8:33Speaker 2: was good. So no, I like that, give him a
- 8:35Speaker 2: little bit bigger back and compliment him there. I like
- 8:37Speaker 2: that thought, all right, we're gonna change gears. Now, we're
- 8:41Speaker 2: going to get to quarterbacks that have regress from last
- 8:44Speaker 2: year this year. I wanted to pull these numbers just
- 8:46Speaker 2: to see what it looked like just in the standpoint
- 8:48Speaker 2: of passer rating. So you look at last year where
- 8:50Speaker 2: they were in the biggest declines. You're looking at Ryan Tannehill,
- 8:53Speaker 2: Joe Burrow, Daniel Jones, Jimmy Garoppolo, Jalen Hurts, and Mac Jones.
- 8:58Speaker 2: So an interesting collection of names there. I put the
- 9:01Speaker 2: emphasis on Jalen Hurts buck. I know he's towards the
- 9:05Speaker 2: bottom of this less but sixteen point eight percent down
- 9:08Speaker 2: from last year? What would you attribute that to? From
- 9:11Speaker 2: what you've seen so far?
- 9:12Speaker 3: I think people forget that the Philadephi Eagas are breaking
- 9:14Speaker 3: in a new offensive coordinator, Brian Johnson, and you lose
- 9:17Speaker 3: Say stich And who by all accounts the job that
- 9:20Speaker 3: he's doing in Indianapols a great play.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Call it well.
- 9:23Speaker 3: Brian Johnson is trying to figure out he's trying to
- 9:25Speaker 3: figure out how design plays for the quarterback. They're trying
- 9:28Speaker 3: to maybe validate or justify the decision and paying the
- 9:31Speaker 3: quarterback by throwing more, and they just haven't been on
- 9:35Speaker 3: the mark. Here's the thing, though, when you look at
- 9:37Speaker 3: the tape, the Philadelphia Eagles typically run however they want,
- 9:41Speaker 3: whenever they want, wherever they want, against anybody. And when
- 9:43Speaker 3: they run the football, this team moves the ball up
- 9:46Speaker 3: and down the field. At some point, you're going to
- 9:49Speaker 3: have to quit trying to fill up the stat sheet
- 9:51Speaker 3: and do what works. Whenever the Philadelphia Eagles decide, hey,
- 9:54Speaker 3: we won't get back to playing bully ball.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Had a lot of scrimmage.
- 9:58Speaker 3: With a unique running game in that big offensive line,
- 10:01Speaker 3: the Philadelphia Eagles will have a lot of success. And
- 10:04Speaker 3: that success will make the game easy for Jalen Hurst
- 10:06Speaker 3: to throw easy completions off play action.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Right now, He's not built to be a drop back passer.
- 10:11Speaker 3: He needs the play action to create these big windows
- 10:14Speaker 3: so he can fire it in there. Because the run
- 10:16Speaker 3: in the pass and that melting, that's why you've seen
- 10:18Speaker 3: the decline.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and I would imagine this last week's game, you know,
- 10:21Speaker 1: kind of factored pretty heavily into that number and into
- 10:24Speaker 1: that drop for Jalen Hurts, especially when you consider the
- 10:27Speaker 1: turnovers and you know, it's not just the interceptions that
- 10:30Speaker 1: have been there, but he's kind of put the ball
- 10:31Speaker 1: in danger, you know, a fair amount. And yeah, some
- 10:33Speaker 1: of that is there's been a lot of you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: he's seen an upticking attempts. It certainly feels like over
- 10:39Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks as it compared to where
- 10:42Speaker 1: they were a year ago when they were, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 1: the best rushing team in football and just have not
- 10:46Speaker 1: been there that way consistently yet this year. And while
- 10:49Speaker 1: you know, Jalen Hurts ends up being the leading rusher,
- 10:52Speaker 1: you know on his eight carries, a lot of that
- 10:54Speaker 1: come you know, at least half of those were coming
- 10:56Speaker 1: via scramble. So they can find ways to kind of
- 10:59Speaker 1: rekin that running game and that commitment to it that
- 11:03Speaker 1: way and minimize the risk. I think you'll start to
- 11:06Speaker 1: see the turnover numbers go down, to passer rating numbers
- 11:09Speaker 1: come up.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Unhurt stage, Yeah, I think, Look, they're still figuring it out,
- 11:14Speaker 2: and it's been kind of impressive, to be honest with you.
- 11:16Speaker 2: They've been winning games where they're still trying to find it.
- 11:18Speaker 2: They haven't found their place. I do know one thing
- 11:20Speaker 2: that offense, you know, with Jalen Hurts, when you take
- 11:23Speaker 2: Lane Johnson out, man, it is a big difference. He's
- 11:26Speaker 2: just kind of been as our buddy Dave Danishek would
- 11:29Speaker 2: use the Jenga piece. You take Lane Johnson's out of there. Man,
- 11:32Speaker 2: it's just some reason they just can't they they can't
- 11:35Speaker 2: get right there. Let's get to the next one. I
- 11:37Speaker 2: want to talk about Jimmy Garoppolo. Looking at his numbers. Obviously,
- 11:40Speaker 2: last year was in San Francisco. You know, the turnovers
- 11:43Speaker 2: are the big difference. Last year in San Francisco sixteen touchdowns,
- 11:47Speaker 2: four picks. This year already he's got eight interceptions and
- 11:50Speaker 2: only seven touchdowns. So rehtt it's a new scheme. It's
- 11:54Speaker 2: a scheme, but he should be familiar with with his
- 11:56Speaker 2: background there with Josh McDaniels. But thus far early returns
- 11:59Speaker 2: hasn't been great.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So yeah, went back and watched all the throws from
- 12:03Speaker 1: this last week and obviously he left the game with
- 12:05Speaker 1: the back injury. Don't know what his status is here
- 12:07Speaker 1: moving forward. Hopefully you can get back in there. So
- 12:09Speaker 1: the thing that I would say, you know, especially when
- 12:11Speaker 1: you compare it to last year, is let's look at
- 12:14Speaker 1: how we characterize the offensive lines for these two teams,
- 12:17Speaker 1: with the forty nine Ers and the Raiders. Would you
- 12:19Speaker 1: say that the forty nine ers are generally speaking in
- 12:22Speaker 1: a better position than the Raiders because it's clear we'll
- 12:26Speaker 1: watch the tape. When you watch the tape on Jimmy,
- 12:29Speaker 1: I mean when the pocket is clean and he is
- 12:32Speaker 1: on rhythm and he gets that five step drop, puts
- 12:35Speaker 1: that fifth step in the ground and banging that balls
- 12:37Speaker 1: out on time, it is accurate. You saw that on
- 12:39Speaker 1: a deep out from DeVonta to DeVante Adams in this game.
- 12:42Speaker 1: You saw that on the Jacobe Myers touchdown in the
- 12:44Speaker 1: back of the end.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Zone in this game.
- 12:46Speaker 1: But man, I'm telling you when when he starts sensing
- 12:50Speaker 1: pressure on I mean, those feet fire like he's doing
- 12:53Speaker 1: a ladder drill, you know in an offseason workout, you know,
- 12:55Speaker 1: and it's like the bank he's got this, you know,
- 12:58Speaker 1: the footwork kind of goes, you know, haywire, you know,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and he's throwing balls, you know, like fadeaways off his
- 13:05Speaker 1: back foot, and that's when things really get off. If
- 13:08Speaker 1: they can continue to kind of find find a way
- 13:11Speaker 1: to upgrade that offensive line, both to keep Jimmy healthy
- 13:14Speaker 1: and to kind of help, you know, facilitate where he's best.
- 13:17Speaker 1: They don't move the pocket a lot either there, so
- 13:20Speaker 1: you got to find a way to make him a
- 13:22Speaker 1: bit more comfortable.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Yeah, Now you got to find a way to make
- 13:24Speaker 3: him a bit more comfortable and with Jimmy g Ruffalo,
- 13:27Speaker 3: like it's always about rhythm, timing, the execution.
- 13:31Speaker 2: He's just been in and out of the lineup.
- 13:32Speaker 3: The injuries tend to come with him each and every year,
- 13:35Speaker 3: and so it's always a problem.
- 13:37Speaker 2: I kind of want to bring up a little bit.
- 13:39Speaker 3: About Daniel Jones because Daniel Jones is on that list
- 13:42Speaker 3: and we're looking at the numbers and the drop off
- 13:44Speaker 3: and the Giants just aren't the same.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Last year they were.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Kind of on that magic carpet ride as they made
- 13:48Speaker 3: their way into the postseason, led you to give led
- 13:51Speaker 3: the Giants to give him a big contract, And so
- 13:53Speaker 3: now I feel like Brian day Ball and those guys
- 13:56Speaker 3: are trying to kind of figure out a.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Way to like show the football where a he is
- 13:59Speaker 2: worth this.
- 14:00Speaker 3: The issue that you have is without Saquon Barkley, a
- 14:02Speaker 3: lot of this stuff today we're able to do successfully.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Last year they haven't been able to do.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And so on a couple of these guys, we're talking
- 14:08Speaker 3: about the differences between being trucks and trailers. We are
- 14:12Speaker 3: seeing how some of these guys are impacted when you
- 14:14Speaker 3: remove a jinga piece. They don't have the ability to
- 14:17Speaker 3: make it right, and a lot of that is contributing
- 14:20Speaker 3: to some of the numbers, the downturning numbers. With seeing
- 14:22Speaker 3: some of these guys on the list, I'm going to
- 14:26Speaker 3: go through because I think there's an answer for all
- 14:28Speaker 3: these guys being on here, and I want to get through.
- 14:30Speaker 3: And there's one more I want to hit Bucky on
- 14:33Speaker 3: and then Rhett follow it up. But let's start when
- 14:35Speaker 3: we go to the top of the list. Ryan Tannehill,
- 14:36Speaker 3: this just looks like Age, right.
- 14:38Speaker 2: It just looks like he doesn't live around as well
- 14:40Speaker 2: as he could. You can look at some of the pieces.
- 14:43Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's one of the worst offensive
- 14:44Speaker 2: lines in the NFL. He doesn't have a pure number
- 14:46Speaker 2: one target on the outside. D Hop is just not
- 14:49Speaker 2: that guy anymore. But I think that let's look at
- 14:52Speaker 2: Age is the major reason Joe Burrow's health when we
- 14:54Speaker 2: know about the calf, missing all training camp, He's just
- 14:57Speaker 2: now starting to look a little more like himself. Daniel Jones,
- 15:00Speaker 2: the offensive line has been decimated with injuries and that's
- 15:03Speaker 2: been a major problem that he got himself hurt as well.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo goes from the Ferrari. You know, to a
- 15:09Speaker 2: more I don't want to miss any car company. So
- 15:12Speaker 2: to a non Ferrari, Jalen hurts, just a mississag ye
- 15:16Speaker 2: midsidetial sponsors, thank you, thank you, thank you. We don't
- 15:19Speaker 2: want to offend anybody, Jalen hurts. We mentioned it, new coordinator.
- 15:23Speaker 2: It's still they're feeling their way a little bit. The
- 15:25Speaker 2: one on the bottom is the one that's intriguing to me,
- 15:28Speaker 2: Buck because we thought last year, oh man, he's got
- 15:31Speaker 2: defensive coaches coaching offense. There's no there's no plan here.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Mac Jones had no chance. Well now he gets somebody
- 15:38Speaker 2: who has a track record in the history of being
- 15:40Speaker 2: a good play caller in this league and designing a
- 15:43Speaker 2: good offense, and Bob and Bill O'Brien, and it's ten
- 15:46Speaker 2: percent worse. So what do you attribute this to where
- 15:50Speaker 2: mac Jones is at this point in time?
- 15:53Speaker 3: Look, to me, is just a lack of weapons and
- 15:55Speaker 3: firepower on the perimeter. They don't have anybody that scares you, like,
- 15:58Speaker 3: who are you scared of? When you look their offense,
- 16:00Speaker 3: there's no one from a defensive standpoint that you're like,
- 16:02Speaker 3: oh my gosh, should we go We need a double
- 16:04Speaker 3: team Juju Smith, Schuster or Devonte Parker, those guys. So
- 16:07Speaker 3: it makes it very very hard for Mac Jones because
- 16:10Speaker 3: every throw is a contested, tight window throw and without
- 16:14Speaker 3: the assistance of the running game, those things make it hard.
- 16:17Speaker 3: And he's also a lot of confidence. He went from
- 16:20Speaker 3: being a Pro Bowl player to like falling off last year.
- 16:23Speaker 3: There was a conversation about Bailey Zappy. You just don't
- 16:25Speaker 3: know what that did to his psyche. He's not the
- 16:27Speaker 3: same player that we saw his rookie season. I don't
- 16:30Speaker 3: know how he gets it back, but the coaches have
- 16:32Speaker 3: the build him back.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Up if they're going to see the best of Mac Jones.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Scoring Foard.
- 16:37Speaker 1: He's got like two completions beyond twenty yards on the season.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Now is that weapons is that inaccuracy? I don't know,
- 16:47Speaker 1: because I'm watching this dude from his own end zone
- 16:49Speaker 1: throw a dime to Devonte Parker that he just straight
- 16:52Speaker 1: up drops, and we might be talking about this game
- 16:56Speaker 1: in a different light. I don't know that that was
- 16:58Speaker 1: solve all the ills that Mac Jones, you know, in
- 17:01Speaker 1: this offense has showed this season. But I think it's clear,
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know, I think a lot of times now, I
- 17:07Speaker 1: used the I use the the the Giants ownership quote
- 17:12Speaker 1: about Daniel Jones. We've done everything possible to screw this
- 17:14Speaker 1: guy up, as as kind of the north Star with
- 17:17Speaker 1: some of these struggling quarterbacks, like let's look at this.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Have they done everything to screw him up? Or have
- 17:21Speaker 1: they done everything to help him?
- 17:23Speaker 4: Right now?
- 17:24Speaker 1: I just I feel like Daniel or mac Jones is
- 17:26Speaker 1: kind of in a Daniel Jones situation from a year ago.
- 17:28Speaker 1: And and hopefully, you know, they can find the right
- 17:31Speaker 1: combination of playmakers, play caller, whatever it is to you know,
- 17:36Speaker 1: rekindle what was you know, a renaissance from Daniel Jones
- 17:39Speaker 1: a year ago, and maybe Mack can find that as well.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, look, maybe maybe Jacoby Myers is just
- 17:45Speaker 2: that good. I mean, because we could talk about maybe
- 17:48Speaker 2: didn't have much around him last year. I mean, the
- 17:49Speaker 2: only difference is Jacoby Myers apparently that was the that
- 17:53Speaker 2: was worth ten percent of production when it comes to
- 17:56Speaker 2: a passer rating. So Matt Patrician, we'll see, how't give
- 17:59Speaker 2: Matt Patrician, Yeah, exactly. Matt patricia is the offensive genius,
- 18:02Speaker 2: it turns out when it's all when it's all said
- 18:04Speaker 2: and done. All right, let's take a quick break when
- 18:09Speaker 2: we come back. It's rookie time, rookie draft time, and
- 18:11Speaker 2: I think Rhett had a good week. It pains me
- 18:13Speaker 2: to say it, but we'll get into that right off
- 18:16Speaker 2: host break. This November Sunday Morning football debuts in Frankfurt, Germany,
- 18:25Speaker 2: on NFL Network. First, on November fifth, the Dolphins take
- 18:29Speaker 2: on the Chiefs. Then on November twelfth, the Colts face
- 18:32Speaker 2: the Patriots. Rise, Shine, and watch only on NFL Network
- 18:36Speaker 2: and streaming on NFL Plus. All right, it's time for
- 18:42Speaker 2: our rookie recap, and it looks like it was a
- 18:43Speaker 2: good week for our buddy rhtt Here you get getting
- 18:46Speaker 2: three points from Zay Flowers. You got a point a
- 18:48Speaker 2: piece for ty J. Spears and Laporta, so a five
- 18:52Speaker 2: point week for him. I got a four point week.
- 18:55Speaker 2: B Jon Robinson has been a layup every week. He
- 18:57Speaker 2: gets me the three, Addison gets me the one, and
- 18:59Speaker 2: Bucky I got three points. But it was a nice
- 19:01Speaker 2: pick because I believe it was the first time that
- 19:03Speaker 2: Michael Mayer had been picked as a tight end, and
- 19:06Speaker 2: Buck ended up getting those three first place points there.
- 19:09Speaker 2: So if you look season wide, Buck, you're still you're
- 19:12Speaker 2: still in front man, you're a twenty five. I'm at
- 19:14Speaker 2: twenty or you're at twenty seven. I'm at twenty five.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Rehtt is starting to close the gap a little bit.
- 19:19Speaker 2: He's at nineteen. So once he gets to the point
- 19:22Speaker 2: where his first number is the same as our first number,
- 19:24Speaker 2: we'll start working. At this point time, we're okay. But
- 19:29Speaker 2: how about Mayor? How about the call on Michael Mayer
- 19:31Speaker 2: Buck nicely done, didn't work?
- 19:33Speaker 3: Yeah, about time they finally used him over the middle
- 19:35Speaker 3: of the field. He's only one the best that we
- 19:37Speaker 3: saw in the draft last seas. It's about town. He
- 19:39Speaker 3: got some some reps. He's look, he's a.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Big time playmaker. Five for seventy five.
- 19:42Speaker 3: He utilized him, took advantage of some matchups over the
- 19:45Speaker 3: middle of the field, and with the Patriots doing what
- 19:47Speaker 3: the Patriots do, trying to take away Devantiana's making sure
- 19:49Speaker 3: that Jacobe Myers didn't get loose, it was a perfect
- 19:52Speaker 3: time for Mayor to get busy.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and look, I think the consistency with Zay Flowers
- 19:58Speaker 1: is starting to pay off for me. You know, I
- 20:00Speaker 1: just I think, you know, he is clearly the best
- 20:03Speaker 1: wide receiver on that team right now, and he is
- 20:05Speaker 1: the guy that Lamar Jackson targets off and it's Mark
- 20:08Speaker 1: Andrews and z Flowers and that's kind of how I
- 20:10Speaker 1: thought it would go to start the season.
- 20:12Speaker 4: So zay the big reason why I was able to
- 20:14Speaker 4: get the dub this week over you guys.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah, nicely done. And Josh Downs was the almost pick.
- 20:19Speaker 2: Every week we have somebody that we discussed that we
- 20:22Speaker 2: almost pick, and uh and the tar Heel because it's
- 20:24Speaker 2: been the year of the tar Heel so far at
- 20:26Speaker 2: Bucky's college team being undefeated, having a great year. Josh
- 20:29Speaker 2: Downs got his first touchdown for the Colts, so good
- 20:32Speaker 2: to see him find his way into the end zone
- 20:33Speaker 2: as we introduce some new names here. Buck, good news
- 20:37Speaker 2: you've got you've got the lead. Better news, you have
- 20:40Speaker 2: the first pick this week. Again, no quarterbacks because we've
- 20:43Speaker 2: got Houston on a bye and we've got Richardson who
- 20:45Speaker 2: looks like could be out for the year, which is
- 20:47Speaker 2: a real bummer, so we might be we might see
- 20:50Speaker 2: in this lane for the rest of the year, looking
- 20:52Speaker 2: at running backs, wide receivers, tight end. So you got
- 20:54Speaker 2: the first pick, Buck, you're up.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Well, let me make sure I'm checking my schedule again,
- 20:58Speaker 3: looking at my notes, make sure I get my guy. Yeah, yeah,
- 21:02Speaker 3: we're good to go. We're good to go this week.
- 21:04Speaker 3: So we go take Bijon Robinson. We're coming down. We
- 21:06Speaker 3: need to I guess the Tampa Bay bucket. I just
- 21:09Speaker 3: wanted to make sure, gotta take him, Gotta make sure
- 21:13Speaker 3: let's go.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that was EASYTT go ahead, it is And
- 21:18Speaker 2: if it's not Bijeon, it's you know, who's going to
- 21:20Speaker 2: be the best tight end this week?
- 21:22Speaker 4: And this is just because there are fewer.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Of them, and you know, it's a tough matchup for
- 21:30Speaker 1: Sam Laporta this week going up against the Ravens.
- 21:35Speaker 4: But then we got Michael Mayer.
- 21:36Speaker 1: I just I'm a little worried about the quarterback situation
- 21:39Speaker 1: in Las Vegas and whether that might affect going Michael
- 21:42Speaker 1: Mayer as well.
- 21:43Speaker 4: Though they do have the Chicago Bears this week, So
- 21:46Speaker 4: you know what, I'm gonna go back. I'm gonna go
- 21:48Speaker 4: back to Sam Laporta. Give me Sammy here yeap Laporta.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Laporta has He's just clearly established himself as the top
- 21:56Speaker 2: night end in terms of this draft we do every week.
- 21:58Speaker 2: It's you have to go in that direction. So I've
- 22:01Speaker 2: got to go Pooka with my first pick, who's been
- 22:06Speaker 2: the first white. We're out the board for several weeks now, Uh,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and you look, Addison's been playing great. A Flowers, I
- 22:12Speaker 2: gotta been playing great. But I'm gonna stick with YEP.
- 22:15Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick with Pooka and then, uh, gosh, I'll
- 22:19Speaker 2: tell you what I'm I'm actually gonna go off. I'm
- 22:21Speaker 2: gonna go off the board a little bit here, and
- 22:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with Jalil mcgloughlin. They're running back for
- 22:27Speaker 2: the Broncos. It was a nice little change of pace
- 22:30Speaker 2: screen drawback, but I think I'm gonna I'm gonna go
- 22:32Speaker 2: with him with a chance to uh to get his
- 22:34Speaker 2: way into the end zone. It's a terrible team. I
- 22:36Speaker 2: get all that, uh, but I feel like, hey, the
- 22:38Speaker 2: Denver Broncos might find themselves down and uh, what comes
- 22:41Speaker 2: in handy when you're down in a ball game, I
- 22:43Speaker 2: don't know, check the ball down to your little back.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Julian mclafflin getting the in zone.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Can you spell McLoughlin. Uh starts to the m ends
- 22:49Speaker 1: with it in. That's all I need there you go.
- 22:52Speaker 1: It was the name of my orthodontist as a kid.
- 22:54Speaker 1: By the way, doctor McLoughlin. You know it then, don't
- 22:57Speaker 1: know how to spell it.
- 22:58Speaker 4: Now you'll have a big smile with McLoughlin this week.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll sign. Okay, you're off at me, Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Give me Zay Flowers, Zaysey z Zay Flowers second straight week.
- 23:13Speaker 1: I just I feel like he's the guy. He is
- 23:15Speaker 1: the guy that's gonna get the targets from Lamar. And
- 23:17Speaker 1: I know it's a tough matchup with the Lions playing
- 23:18Speaker 1: good defense right now, but I think he's an easy and.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Easy bet for twelve to fifteen points.
- 23:24Speaker 2: All right, look back to.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Back, I get, I get, Yeah, I get back to back,
- 23:29Speaker 3: So we'll make it easy. So I'm gonna go with
- 23:30Speaker 3: Jordan Addison going big on his first Monday night football game.
- 23:34Speaker 2: I guess to forty nine ers. So let's take him,
- 23:36Speaker 2: and then let's follow it up.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Let's say if Mike American do it again, Let's say
- 23:39Speaker 3: if we can go back to back behind Bears. Don't
- 23:42Speaker 3: know if it should be a nice matchup, So let's
- 23:44Speaker 3: see if those young guys can get it down for
- 23:46Speaker 3: team bb.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Okay, it goes back to me, back to me now right,
- 23:53Speaker 1: I'm gonna go I need a running back and the
- 23:55Speaker 1: running backs have become a little bit more difficult to
- 23:57Speaker 1: deal with here. Jamiir Gibbs, I think, is going to
- 24:00Speaker 1: be back for the Lions, and I know that David
- 24:04Speaker 1: Montgomery is going to miss some time, so that's an
- 24:06Speaker 1: opportunity there, although I just man, he just even when
- 24:11Speaker 1: Montgomery was out earlier in the year, wasn't a big
- 24:14Speaker 1: day for Jamier Gibbs. So I'm not ready to pull
- 24:16Speaker 1: the trigger there yet. You know what was kind of
- 24:18Speaker 1: interesting we didn't get to talk about a ton on
- 24:20Speaker 1: the Monday Pod guys, was the fact that the the
- 24:24Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams, I mean absolutely ran the rock in
- 24:29Speaker 1: the second half against the Arizona Cardinals. Kyran Williams had
- 24:33Speaker 1: one hundred and fifty eight yards one hundred and fifty
- 24:34Speaker 1: four of them went in the second half. But I
- 24:37Speaker 1: don't know that he's going to be available for the
- 24:41Speaker 1: Rams this week, and his backup as well, I believe
- 24:46Speaker 1: Ronnie Rivers might be down as well. So, guys, I'm
- 24:49Speaker 1: going to go with the rookie for the first time,
- 24:51Speaker 1: a new name out of the bucks. Here a day
- 24:54Speaker 1: three pick. Give me Zach Evans to lead the rams
- 24:57Speaker 1: and rushing on this day.
- 25:00Speaker 2: Let's do it nice. I feel like if I had
- 25:03Speaker 2: to do more when we set this whole thing up,
- 25:06Speaker 2: we should. We should have instituted a one point bonus.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Anytime new name comes in and and he scores points,
- 25:15Speaker 2: you should get you should get one point bonus there.
- 25:17Speaker 2: But it's too late. Those are the rules, you know,
- 25:19Speaker 2: we can't change at this point in time. That leaves
- 25:21Speaker 2: me with my final pick. And I might do a
- 25:25Speaker 2: ret here where I make a selection, but I monitor
- 25:27Speaker 2: it in cases gentleman does not play, so I can
- 25:30Speaker 2: then fill in on the back side of that. I'm
- 25:33Speaker 2: gonna go. Dalton Kincaid is my tight end. And I
- 25:35Speaker 2: was simply about this the other day. Yeah, yeah, I
- 25:38Speaker 2: didn't play. I believe it was a concussion. But hopefully
- 25:41Speaker 2: he's back against the Patriots this week. But I made
- 25:44Speaker 2: a comment with somebody, I said, you know, gosh, I thought,
- 25:46Speaker 2: and I know he missed a game, but I thought
- 25:48Speaker 2: he would be a little more productive and more of
- 25:50Speaker 2: a seven piece here for this Bill's offense. And you
- 25:53Speaker 2: look at the numbers right now, so he's played five games. Look,
- 25:57Speaker 2: he's been targeted nineteen times. Yes, seventeen catches, but it's
- 26:00Speaker 2: only one hundred and eighteen yards. That's just under seven
- 26:03Speaker 2: per catch and does not have a touchdown. And when
- 26:06Speaker 2: I when I brought that up with somebody, they said,
- 26:08Speaker 2: uh wow, you know, look, this is an offense overall
- 26:12Speaker 2: that hasn't found itself. So I still have hope that
- 26:15Speaker 2: they're going to figure things out and get into a groove.
- 26:17Speaker 2: And then you'll see, uh Dlon Kincaid start to get rolling.
- 26:20Speaker 2: But you got to get him back out in the field.
- 26:21Speaker 2: But Buck, isn't it nice having a safety net since
- 26:23Speaker 2: Rhett uh you know, broke the rules instead a new
- 26:26Speaker 2: standard that you know, Hey, if I wake up and
- 26:28Speaker 2: I think he might not play, I just go in
- 26:29Speaker 2: another direction. It's nice fallback. Yeah, well not.
- 26:32Speaker 3: I mean it is beautiful to make up your rules
- 26:34Speaker 3: as you go, like whatever you need. If you need
- 26:36Speaker 3: to keep one in your pocket just in case you
- 26:37Speaker 3: don't feel like it on game day, just send a
- 26:39Speaker 3: little text to trusted producing Drew and drawer mak app
- 26:43Speaker 3: And so it's great.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Maybe maybe Drew and I are just bet friends than
- 26:46Speaker 1: you guys are Wow.
- 26:47Speaker 2: Well, well, I'll tell you what if if if I
- 26:50Speaker 2: let my alma mater get beat by one hundred points
- 26:53Speaker 2: by Hotter, he probably like Comere as well. Unfortunately, my
- 26:57Speaker 2: album mater beat his alma mater back in the day
- 26:59Speaker 2: and very famous game. So maybe that's just a gap
- 27:02Speaker 2: of part of it and get over Yeah, maybe that's
- 27:05Speaker 2: it all right. I better get out of here before
- 27:08Speaker 2: Drew completely just cuts my mic here. That's enough Michigan slander.
- 27:12Speaker 2: And I probably shouldn't say anyth about Michigan because I
- 27:14Speaker 2: do think they're gonna win a national championship this year
- 27:17Speaker 2: and I'm sure Drew will enjoy that and never let
- 27:18Speaker 2: me hear the end of it. So let's wrap it
- 27:20Speaker 2: up right here. This has been a fun episode. Appreciate
- 27:23Speaker 2: you guys hanging with us, and we'll catch you next time.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Right here on, move the sticks.
