[upbeat rock music] Good day, listener.
0:18
Great day in the morning. I never know how to long to l- how long to let that play. [laughs] Hey, everybody, it's, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling. Till the lyrics hit. Right?
0:28
Yeah, that doesn't happen in the two and a half minutes this goes on for. [laughs] It'll be my creative writing assignment of the year. I haven't given myself a New Year's resolution yet. There you go.
0:37
I, I wait till February for that to happen. Write some li- write some lyrics for this jam. Yeah. Oh, Lord. [laughs] Hey, everybody, it's show number 98. 98. 98. So this is the second last show hopefully
0:52
that we're gonna do at the River West Everyday Cycles original studio. Huh. The new studio's coming along pretty well. On the go. I am anticipating that we will be able to do... We will be able to do...
1:06
That's what he said. Uh-huh. He will be... We- He will be you... will be able to do show 100 from the new studio. Right on. Right on. Allegedly, I carpeted it. It's been built.
1:18
They're putting the beer rail on the outside so you can set your, uh, beer up out there. Nice. Nice. And, uh, supposedly, we're getting electrical in by this weekend, so that will- Cool...
1:26
be the last final thing that makes it at least possible for us to do a show there. And I might not be here for next week, so I don't know yet. Well. Oh. So then it'll be, uh- Where are you going, Spain again?
1:36
No, no, no, nothing that reckless. Ah, well, if we- I don't know. Just, yeah, just, yeah, swimming in, you know, in the Ozarks or something stupid. I don't know. Yeah. Well, it's gonna be- [laughs]...
1:46
it's gonna be freaking cold tomorrow and Sunday and whatnot. Yeah. Well, I'm just... And, and there's a, there's a bit of wanting to bug out next week for a couple- Bug out during a pandemic... couple days.
1:58
Yeah, yeah, yeah. W- well, as responsibly as you can be without being like... Well, if you sleep in the car, you'd be good to go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, even, you know, it's every- Well, like camping... everything.
2:10
Woke up to four inches of snow in his tent, like, "Man." Yeah. It's winter camping. Camping, not glamping, 'cause, you know- Yeah. Glamping's more fun. I know. I gotta work through the logistics of it.
2:20
I mean, this could be ending up just getting a fucking room over at the Potawatomi. [laughs] There you go. [laughs] There you go. And it's like, okay. Rocked Oskars. Yeah. I'm saying, yeah. Every night.
2:32
As long as they... If, if they have video- Twice. If they have video blackjack there- Maybe... I'm, I'm down. I don't need, I don't need to have to be playing against. I know how to, but... Why not just use cards?
2:44
Video blackjack is rigged. Because of- It's rigged... no, of it's the touching- Oh, right... the touching and the contagions and- Wear gloves... yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. Wear some gloves. Well, they're not gonna do that.
2:53
My God. Gloves. Or I could go to Vegas. You wear gloves. Glovesies for lovesies. Love glove. Uh- And we're already off the rails. [laughs] Right?
3:04
I feel, I feel like we're at Harrington and I just fell into the crick and turtled on my back. [laughs] So the, uh, the new space is also coming along, the new shop space.
3:17
Not as quickly as the podcast studio though, 'cause I kinda made that a priority since other people can use it, and- It's- Eh, you know... it's a really cool space... and it's also a lot smaller to finish.
3:26
It's not like the big space. Right. Right. So things are coming along. There will be a, possibly even a drone tour of this building at some point. Nice.
3:36
Uh, lots of people moving into some of the smaller, uh, artist studios and whatnot, and... The Fight Club guys got a video to do there on the 14th, so hopefully that gets going. [laughs] Nice. Nice. Yeah.
3:46
Good stuff happening. It's gonna be a, an it's gonna be a great spot. Yeah. I think the- Fight Club and Valentine's Day. Right. [laughs] Go- That co- that coincidence. [laughs] Yeah. They go hand in hand.
3:58
[laughs] I tell you what- Too many, yes... I think it was Sam. Sam sent that little me- Was it... I... That wasn't really a meme. It was a cartoon. Something about a woman and can't say shut up or something.
4:07
I don't know. Oh, I, I didn't get that one, I don't think. Maybe I did, but- Well. Yeah... oh, that's like Kim and I, we break up on our anniversary and then make up on our anniversary.
4:15
[laughs] Just to- First you gotta break up... just to throw something together. [laughs] Ooh, the things we do for love. Oh. Exactly. I, yeah, I need shiny things, so yeah.
4:27
So I wanted to, before I forget, 'cause I didn't write it down in our show notes, which means I probably wouldn't for- remember it, um, Chris at The Psychic Derailer down there in, uh, Indiana-polis
4:40
has, he writes a weekly little quick blog post, and he's added something to it recently, which is books he's reading. Hmm. And I thought, well, you know, I don't know, Chris is a cool guy.
4:51
I think I'm gonna read the book that he suggested. Oh, which is it? Something about Christopher Knight that was the hermit that lived in Maine. Oh.
5:00
I, something, I don't remember the title off the top of my head, but- Oh. I, I've read about this, yeah... Christopher Knight, that's Peter Brady. Yeah. That's not the same guy. Yeah, but Christopher Knight.
5:09
He's the guy that disappeared, like, fresh out of college and- Yeah, he just walked off and, and- And they found, he was gone for t- over 20 years. Yeah, was living in- Yeah...
5:19
in an area that was populated but had found a, kind of a cubby hole that he could occupy. Well, it, it was a little more than that. Yeah, it was, it's very cool. It was a compound. Uh. Yeah.
5:28
Something- Oh, kind of like the, uh, the dude who, uh- Way bigger... well, yeah, but in theory. I mean- Yes. Oh, but that was- The guy down by the river. Yeah... yeah, that was a, that was a bunker. This wasn't a bunker.
5:37
This was a campsite 'cause he lived under a tarp and in a tent for 20-some years. I'm just saying. Look. Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Similar- Yes... but different. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Jumbo shrimp. [laughs] Military intelligence.
5:49
[laughs] I wish I could remember the name of the, the book. I, I, well, somehow the interwebs will probably be the fellows, but- By the lake, does it Brady?
5:59
[laughs] I'll put it in the show notes 'cause actually it's worth reading 'cause it's an interesting book, and the guy that writes it, Finkel is his last name, um, writes a ton of stuff for magazines like National Geographic and- I think I read an excerpt of it.
6:12
Yeah, it's fascinating. Yeah. I mean, it's, it's- So I would go ahead and, uh, read it if you can figure out what I'm talking about So thanks, uh, thanks, uh, Psychic Derailer because- You psychic...
6:22
that, that was a useful thing, and I think telling, especially during these trying times, it's important to let people know what you're reading.
6:30
Now, I will admit it's been David Balducci quite a bit because he's a fast read and it's [laughs] kind of interesting, but- That's great... if you like that kind of, uh- Quickness...
6:39
CIA/uh, Secret Service-y kind of stuff. Yeah. I've been doing the dance of Fight Club, The Hobbit, uh, V for Vendetta, and you know. In a book form, V for Vendetta? Uh, no. That in the graphic novel. But- Ah, cool...
6:53
yes, it is a book form. But that's still a book. And yeah, it's very tiny writing. [laughs] Very dense. Did you, did you do any bathroom reading of Razor Cakes yet? Not yet. Not yet.
7:02
I've been reading one story a night, and it's, there's a lot of good stuff in there. Cool. If you're into the punk rock scene- I didn't take mine. I forgot. I- Probably a little newer scene than I was into.
7:09
Well, I am into, but it's still interesting stuff. Yeah. When I saw the Fugazi feature, I'm like, "Yeah, okay." Yeah. I, I, I need to, I need to, I need to read you. I like Fugazi.
7:19
You took the one of, you took some of the magazines. I did not take There's, they're over there. $5 shows. I know. I forgot mine. I miss, I miss shows in general, but I miss $5 Fugazi shows more than anything.
7:28
Not more than anything, but in that top five of anything. So I, my assignment today during, uh, the, the... I w- I did the Bosch three hour, uh, technical training today, which was awesome by the way.
7:42
So the e-bike, Bosch, blah, blah, blah. Um, we will be an authorized e-bike service center for Bosch. Bosch. Their systems are so cool once you really get into them.
7:53
Anyway, um, while I was doing that, I was also doing some other stuff, and came across, like, it was on the Radavist. I don't know, it's probably on other stuff too, but this bike packing sucks, dude from Instagram.
8:05
[laughs] My God, is that hilarious. Um, he's, but he did a series of videos for Crust Bike's new Scapegoat, which is kind of a
8:13
mountain bike, old school, with a bunch of mounts slapped on it so you can do whatever you want with it. That's pretty cool.
8:18
[laughs] But, you, you know, and I, I don't know what the, um, rules for Instagram are length-wise. They're all short, 30, 60 seconds, something like that. But he, he's a creative guy, 'cause these are hilarious.
8:28
[laughs] And, um, the one- I didn't dive too deep. I just, I hit the one piece and- Yeah. Well, the one that I put on was the second to last one, where he gives his final thing in the next one.
8:36
But there's probably five or six of them, and they're all different. They're all pretty well thought out, and they're, they're... He's a funny dude. I recommend watching it, 'cause I got the link in the show notes.
8:47
Yeah, why not? I also noticed that not a lot of people go to the show notes. I think they listen and then they don't go to the show notes. So go to show notes for fuck's sake. Yeah. We can't paint the word picture.
8:56
That, that accurately- You shouldn't shit on us for not going, dude. That's not gonna make them wanna go any faster. Giving them shit about it. Just please, go to the liner notes. [laughs] Okay. Liner notes.
9:05
There you go. There you go. We're gonna call them liner notes now, not show notes. Yeah. See. Right. All right. There you go. Oh, yeah. Bringing it, bringing it back. Yeah.
9:11
And if you, yeah, change the font so it's, like, kinda like the scratchy- Not-... not quite Comic Sans, but kind of- No Comic Sans... in that- It's illegal to use that font anymore... Sans.
9:23
I don't know again where I saw this, but it was on bicycling.com though. I saw it somewhere else probably. Probably in my Feedly feed. I use Feedly for my RSS feed. Oh. Feedly is awesome, by the way. Uh- It's a-...
9:34
I thought our freaking bike shop here was small. The world's smallest bike shop, check the link out, 55 square feet. Wow. And it's like, I don't know what you can do in 55 square feet. It's- Mm...
9:47
barely the size of our little vestibule up there. I mean, this shop is- Ballet-... 600 square feet, [laughs] so it's not that big, but- Contortionist, lot of gymnastics training. I, I thought we were...
9:55
I didn't say we were gonna be- Your bathroom's fi- 50 square feet, man. Right. Exactly. That little vestibule up there is 50 square feet. Yeah, 50 square feet. Yeah. Oh, he's got 55 though. Oh, wow. Wow. That extra five.
10:07
Whoa, whoa, yeah, that's all the difference, man. It's one whole bike. That's the space he's occupying. Wow.
10:10
Basically, I think he's, he's in a warm clime, I think it might be in California somewhere, um, that he can stand outside for the majority of the day and do his work out there, and then he just has to pack the thing full with all the- S-...
10:21
the bikes. But I believe he just takes vintage or, you know, bikes and, and redoes them and sells them. Yeah. Yeah. So there you go. Speed of bikes. Phone. OMG. Huh? Uh, welcome to the radio program.
10:37
Who do we have on the line? Big Sexy. [laughs] Big Sexy. Big Sexy. How y'all doing? Oh, doing well. How are you, Sexy? I'm good, man.
10:50
Um, I, I, I'll, I'll tell you what, this little town of Hammond, Louisiana, has been really good to me. Nice. Really? It, it's like the, it's, it's like the friendliest, un- bike-unfriendly town in the world.
11:08
It, it's like there's, there's no, there's no bike lanes. There's no shoulders. There's no, there's very rarely a sidewalk. But the, the, the drivers are very courteous and very cautious. Sometimes- Oh. [laughs]...
11:19
sometimes overly cautious. Yeah? That's awesome. Well, then, then they don't need sidewalks or anything. Like, he doesn't mind me biking down the street. Yeah.
11:26
That's, like, uh, like awesome and, and, and kinda confusing- Yeah... at the same time. Mm-hmm. If, if you have enough drivers like that, you don't need sidewalks and bike lanes. You, you, you have courtesy. Ex- exactly.
11:37
And, and, and but I feel bad, 'cause I'm like, just because I'm riding my bike down the road doesn't mean the world has to come to a complete stop. [laughs] And I mean, like, you know, I, I, I feel, I feel bad- Yeah.
11:48
For you they sure as hell do. [laughs] Well, I'm glad that I... I don't know why, I just checked Facebook the other day and I came across your post, and I'm like... Or you had commented on somebody's something.
11:59
I'm like, "Oh, yeah, we haven't talked to Big Sexy for a while," and we wanted to kinda check in with you and see what's going on for the summer plans. Yeah. Um, uh, uh, uh, February 18th, I'm, uh, I'm leaving Hammond.
12:13
Well, and, uh, let's, well, we might as well start on the 12th of February, 'cause I'm taking the train. There's a train from Hammond to New Orleans. Mm-hmm. And it's only $14. Nice.
12:25
So, I'm, I'm taking, I'm taking the train to New Orleans. I'm gonna spend Mardi Gras weekend.
12:29
I know, I mean, it's probably not gonna be much, but I've been in, I've been on Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras day every year for 22 years. I'm not gonna, I'm not gonna stop that now. No, no. Um,
12:43
and then I'm gonna take the train back on Ash Wednesday and, uh, get geared up, and I'm, uh, hitting, hitting the road, and I'm, I'm heading east. I don't know if you got the map I sent you. I did.
12:53
We'll, we'll make a, a, a picture of it and put it on the big website. That'd be cool because, um, yeah, that's, that's my plan. I'm gonna go, uh, go into Florida and, uh,
13:05
um, I think my parents are, uh, my parents are in Tampa. They're getting inoculated, so I can go visit them, and then I'm gonna go to Myrtle Beach and up the, up the coast.
13:14
I'm gonna redo a lot of the things that I, I didn't get to spend too much time on the first time around because I was in... You know, I was kinda busting through cities because I...
13:24
Of finances and because, you know, I didn't know any better quite yet.
13:29
And now that I've, now that I've got it down, I've, I've been doing it for a couple years, I, I think I can, uh, make the best or make more of a, a better situation. Like places like DC and, uh,
13:40
and I'm going to Cape Cod again and- Cape Cod rules the wasteland... and then there's this intriguing...
13:46
I, uh, I, I, I got a, uh, somebody sent me an email or, or a, or a link or something to this bike path that goes from Albany to Buffalo.
13:56
And I'm like, uh, Albany, New York to Buffalo, New York, and it's a straight up bike path the whole way, and I'm like, "Awesome. I like it." [laughs] So, when you go to Cape Cod- So-...
14:06
right when you're in the, you know, the armpit of your elbow, not your actual armpit, but the, where it starts going north, um, there's a dude there- Yeah... that's a fat biker that we should...
14:17
I'll try and hook you up with him. His name is Bob. He, he runs a, an imaging place that does printing for photographers. Really cool. And he, uh- Great...
14:28
he's an awesome dude, and his place is really cool, and I will hook you up with at least a contact. Well, no, that, that, that'd be great.
14:36
Um, um, the, the one thing, the one thing I regretted the most about my Cape Cod visit is I, I spent a lot of time with my fr- I have, um, a friend and her family that I know very well in Cape Cod, but I really didn't do anything else.
14:49
Mm-hmm. So, what's, what, uh- What, what town/ uh, village/burg do they, uh, reside in? Y- Yar- Yarmouth. Yep. Okay. Got it. Yarmouth. Yarmouth. Um, and- Yarr... and, uh, you know, we, we, we- It's a pirate place. Arr...
15:05
we, we, we hung out. We went to the beach and everything, but I, um, I, um, I've got a, um, a better window this time. She's like, "You can stay, you can stay for this amount of time." I'm like, "Okay, cool."
15:16
Um, I, I, I really, I wanted to explore Cape Cod a little bit- I highly recommend it... a little bit more than I did last time. That's- Yeah. I used to go out there every, every year. Yeah, every, it- It's, it's awesome.
15:24
Wait. No. Yes. Me too. And, and I, I plan on b- getting there like late May, early June. So- Yeah... uh, that's gonna be like prime time right there, so.
15:35
I love being out in Cape Cod when there's a big storm coming- Yeah... 'cause you're kind of out there and you're in it all, no matter what. [laughs] I like going in the morning- Yeah...
15:42
along the beach and finding all the crazy stuff that's washed up. Yeah. That's the, that's the best part of a storm. That was part for, for Rithol. Yeah. That was part, part of my idea of like, okay, bug out where?
15:51
I'm like, uh, yeah, except- East Coast... yeah, except there are gonna be... It, it would be just transplanting this- For that... area- Yeah... for that area of- It's warmer and wetter. Bullshit.
16:03
[laughs] Well, you know, it, it- It's gonna be all gnarly and just- But-... a reminder. I wanna go to a place that it doesn't remind me. [laughs] Take me away. Yeah.
16:11
Well, and that's, that's, that's the big idea, um, of me, of me, like re- redoing the East Coast like that is 'cause I kinda sped through and didn't, and didn't really take- Right... the time to savor and flavor- Uh-huh.
16:24
Right... a lot of, a lot of, a lot of what I went through. And, uh, 'cause I was kinda like busting right through it and took a couple pictures and got the hell out of there.
16:30
But, um, this time I, I'm, I'm a little, I'm, I'm a little more, uh, educated. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm more, uh, uh, solid, and I can spend a little more, more time in these places, so.
16:41
So, are you gonna be visiting any new state capitals or are you kind of, uh, doing the tour that you missed? At, yeah, at the, at the tail end.
16:50
Uh, when, when I leave Minneapolis I'm going straight for Lincoln, Nebraska and then I'm gonna do Topeka, Kansas. It should be flat. And Oklahoma City, then Austin, and then I'm gonna...
17:00
I, I, I might, I may finally do Baton Rouge. Surprisingly, it's not, in some spots. [laughs] Oh, yeah. Whatever. [laughs] I, I, well- I, I just, I, uh- So Lincoln is a great town 'cause it's a college town...
17:10
I have no interest in going to Baton Rouge. I, I- [laughs]... I have no interest in going there whatsoever. Baton Rouge. Mm-mm. Mm-mm. You can, you can't, you can't even see, uh, Barry Seal there anymore. Well. Right.
17:20
Um, yeah. Uh, Lincoln is a great town. It's a, it's a college town. It's, that's a lot of fun. And, uh, Topeka, I got a guy there. I got a guy. He's not a bike guy, but he's a guy. So, you know. Yeah. Whatever. Whoa.
17:31
A guy. Yeah. He's actually a post... He's a letter carrier in Topeka. Oh, a blueberry delivery guy? Wow. Yeah. [laughs] Well, I'll, I'll, I'll tell you what.
17:41
Um, the, the only reason I didn't hit Topeka and Lincoln last year was because, uh, uh, I was in Iowa, in south... I was starting to approach Southwestern Iowa, and I ran out of phone service. I'm like, "Well, fuck this.
17:54
I'm going the other way." And, and, uh, and I, I kind of feel bad about that. It's like, it's like, man, really? Because I don't have cell service I'm gonna, I'm gonna not, uh, I'm gonna miss out on a, on a capital?
18:07
Whatever. Yeah. Well, if you don't, if you don't Facebook it, it didn't happen, dude. [laughs] Oh. Right. Exactly. So yeah, I'm, I'm get- I'm getting geared up. Um, Heather's riding like a dream. I, um- Nice...
18:24
I still have the backup chains. I still have, uh, you know, I, I've, I've, I've re- just replaced both, uh, both rear rims and, uh- Ready to go Nice. And, and- Very good...
18:35
um, I don't, I don't think, uh, she's got any issues Sweet. How long has it been since you heard this sound? [bell ringing] Top of the hill. Top of the hill, folks.
18:47
[laughs] Uh, we're, uh, we're having a, we're having a, we're having some beer here tonight. Yeah. Uh, which, which you like? The same? Sure. All right. I'm g- I'm gonna stick with this- [laughs]...
18:55
Cano Bliss from, uh, Oscar Blues. We're, we're- There's some Oscar Blues beer here too... we're doing the Oscar Blues, um, Can- Pandemonium...
19:01
Pandemonium, which is a, a variety pack of five different Oscar Blues beers ranging from- Four?...
19:08
one E- IPA at 4.0 up to Good Night, which I, is a pretty good, you know, description of what that 8 point whatever it is is gonna do to you. Yeah. It's gonna, it's gonna make you go good night, boy.
19:19
[laughs] Give me another one. [laughs] Oh, geez.
19:21
But, and if you notice, if you notice, I do plan on taking that ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee, and, um, yeah, and Dan Sham and to find Dave Luntz and, uh- Oh, you don't wanna find Dave Luntz...
19:32
have a, have a drink or two with him. You don't wanna find Dave Luntz. He and I just- So maybe we can all get together, you know. Absolutely. You can be on the show live in person in the studio. That'd be cool. Yeah.
19:42
I would, I would, I'd be completely down with that. Oh, yeah. That's crazy.
19:45
Um, I just, I just took a trip to Madison with Dave last Monday to pick up a pair of, um, Black Floyd Skinwall tires for the River West '24 bike that we're kinda restoring. Oh. Ooh.
19:57
And had lunch, and had lunch with JP, and, uh, he's got an event coming up on Saturday, tomorrow- Ooh... which is gonna be, like, below zero, I think. It's gonna be cold this [laughs] time. That's gonna be a rough ride.
20:09
But they've gotten like 20 some inches of snow over there, and they've got the snowmobile club glu- glumen. Is that called glumen? Grooming the trails. Grooming the s- the trails? And it would be cool.
20:18
It's a two and a half mile course. [laughs] I don't know if Heather would do well on it- Did you say-... for sure, but, uh- Did you say 12 inches of snow? Yeah... more than. They've got like 25 or something.
20:28
[singing] Informer, you know me then, you snow me down the lane. Oh, boy. [singing] I licky boom-boom down.
20:32
All right, I got something for you to try out when you come here too, uh, because we have a, a fat bike that's kinda based on Heather's sister or brother, um, but has big- Uh-huh... huge, fat tires on it.
20:44
Unfortunately, it was the very, very first year they made that bike, and it didn't have that extra brace, so the frame is kinda bendy. So we're, we're r- Oh...
20:52
we're, we're making a modification to it, hopefully, where the, the frame won't bend in half anymore, 'cause we were riding around the hallways and having fun on it, and I kept noticing this, that the, the steerer tube angle on the fork kept raking out more.
21:06
I'm like, "The hell's going on [laughs] here?" [laughs] "Well, the frame is bending. Don't worry about it." Yeah. But you got, you- That sounds terrifying. Yeah, no. I mean, it was inside, and it was...
21:14
I just didn't wanna wreck the bike 'cause we spent a bunch of time powder coating it and putting these big fat tires on it. And I've given it to my buddy- We'll see. We'll go...
21:22
to solve that problem, and then he's gonna give it to his mom, who's over 70, and she's gonna use it to get around her little berg in, uh, central Wisconsin. Nice.
21:32
Yeah, um, uh, uh, several people have been like, "Oh, well, so, so how do you like it? Does it work out for you?" Blah, blah. You know, they, they always a- people are always asking.
21:40
Like, I've been thinking about getting one of those. I'm like, "Dude, get one." The only, the only enemy is uneven or slanted, uh, pavement or sidewalks.
21:49
Like, it is, if you gotta, if you gotta ride at an angle, it, that kinda sucks. Yeah. It's like, it's like ri- it's riding uphill, it's riding uphill twice. [laughs] Or you gotta fight the curve, and you gotta...
22:04
and then you also going uphill too. So i- it, it... like, other than that, you know, as long as it's straight and flat and, you know, whatever, we're, we're good. But I... I'm, I'm really...
22:15
I'm, I'm more excited to redo, to redo the East Coast with my, with my, uh, with the knowledge I've gained since I started. Nice. Yeah, it sounds good.
22:24
So what- Instead of just being some, some dumbass that didn't know what he was doing or had to get through a city fast, you know? [laughs] Right. So what does the...
22:31
what, what, what is the timeline for getting into, uh, Wisconsin look like? Oh, I would say it's gonna be, it's gonna be mid to late August. That's a good time. Depending on how much, how much time I spend on Cape Cod.
22:46
Oh, geez. Oh, here's an idea. We a- we a- we go over to, uh, Michigan every year, and we either take that ferry. This year we're actually thinking about taking the one that's north, the Badger, but we could- Mm-hmm...
22:55
we could possibly ride over there and ride in with you to another town and come on the ferry. That might be fun. We'll escort you. That'd be awesome. We'll escort you into Wisconsin.
23:04
I- You'll have like a, you'll have like an entourage when you come. That was, that would be awesome, but I have to- [laughs] But I, I, I have to warn you that I, I do ride way slower than most, [laughs] you know?
23:15
I, I, um- That's why we have e-bikes now. We can- [laughs] We'll pull you. Yeah. Heather, Heather's awes- Heather's awesome, but she does not go fast. Yeah, the tow ropes. Yeah. That's okay.
23:25
We don't go fast either anymore, being the old folks that I am. [laughs] Yeah. Right. Right on, dude.
23:33
Well, I- Yeah, but yeah, I'm, I'm excited, I'm excited to hit the road, and I'm excited to, um, to actually, you know, like, and to actually do it, and, you know, eat, you know, get, get, and get moving. Yeah.
23:44
'Cause I, I've been, I've been sitting here since, uh, since about Halloween, so. Yeah. You must be getting antsy. Yeah. And I'm, I, I'm, I'm getting a little fishbowl. You're like, "Okay, it's 9:00.
23:57
Let's go down to the gas station, get a six-pack of beer and a little shooter of Jäger- [laughs]... and go back home and drink it. And okay, now what are we gonna have for lunch? And nap time.
24:06
[laughs] Okay, let's see what's on YouTube. You know, it, it, it- It's exhausting getting that clever... I'd rather, I'd rather be out there.
24:12
[laughs] Yeah, it's way m- it's way more work- I'd rather, I'd rather be out there actually getting somewhere, doing something. Right. Right.
24:18
That's a lot more work trying to figure out your day when you don't have anything to do. [laughs] Oh, man. Exactly.
24:24
And yeah, just if, if, if everybody can just get vaccinated so we can stop doing this stupid shit and get back to normal, it'd be awesome. Copy that.
24:32
I hope we're, I hope we're set by the time you get here, but, uh- My second shot tomorrow, brother. Yeah. Yep. To- Tony lucked out 'cause he got, he got his- My, my gue- my guess is we'll, we'll be halfway there.
24:44
You know, like, like, you know, like we'll- Living on a prayer... we'll still have to wear masks, and we'll still have to be careful, but- Yeah. Right on, dude.
24:52
Well, um- Well, hopefully we- Don- don't be a stranger, and, uh, catch us up when you're on the road again. Yeah. Oh, absolutely not. Yeah, um, I, I, I do, I do plan on...
25:02
I, I, I definitely, you know, I, I didn't call for the last couple weeks 'cause there was just, there was just nothing to report. But now there is, 'cause I'm getting ready to go again, so. [clears throat] Very good.
25:10
Well- Awesome... it's always good having you on the show, and, uh, actually look forward to running across you this summer, but catching up with you before... What is that smell? What? Belch? I think
25:22
JK stepped on a skunk, I believe. Ugh. Um, very good. Uh, Jason- Good... we'll talk to you soon, buddy. Sexy. All right, man. Yeah. Big sexy. I'll, I'll, I'll be, uh, calling you in, in the next couple weeks for sure.
25:33
Right on. Cool. All right. Cool, thanks. Safe riding. Bye. All right, take it easy, guys. Yep. [sniffs] Right on. There we go. Big sexy. Big, big sexy making plans. Grove.
25:45
That's only, uh- It's the hoppy goodness of the Can of Bliss IPA- Mm... is what you are [sniffs] watching. Oh, is it? Oh. Oh, is it? Is it? It is. Oh, it is. Is it, is it. Did you blow it in the can?
25:57
[laughs] I, it, it's always a, it's... Well, it's not always a challenge to find the little screen on every Oskar Blues can, but this one's a little slightly more hidden than- It's, it's slightly... than most of them...
26:07
not much. And it doesn't have the text. It's not really that hidden. It doesn't have the text anymore. Mm. They redesigned the cans, and they don't have the- Still a package... pack it in, pack it out part...
26:16
I got an idea. I got an idea, Tony. Tony Britta- Idea... I got an idea. Idea. What's the idea?
26:19
The people that sell the apples, those Washington Delicious folks, they had to put a little thing around the apple with a screen thing on it so that it makes apples more cooler. Mm-hmm. They'd probably sell more apples.
26:30
Then you- Yeah... could make your apple pipe like that then. I would bet, you know, people- Many a time... stoners that walk through the grocery store and saw an apple with that on it would totally buy them.
26:39
I w- I, okay. They would increase- Hey, Washington, give me money. I just gave you an idea. Yeah, that's a great idea.
26:45
I think, you know- I like the Granny- Kyle Capizzi, if you're listening to this out there in Washington- I like Granny Smiths, but it would be so obvious looking. That, that's okay. I think it needs to be.
26:52
Granny, Granny smokes, too. Don't worry about it. Well, yeah, yeah, but I mean, off the, you know, the... See, it, it would be like the can of the One E IPA. It is very more pronounced.
27:03
Yeah, but that's, but that's not in the right spot. This one- No, it's not. Well, it doesn't really...
27:09
Well, it needs to be right about a third of the way up from the bottom, or it doesn't crush properly to give you the m- most... Never mind. Well, and also- It's not like I have done this to people [laughs]...
27:16
also, you're supposed to, I mean, easily you would have- We were all kids once... this low as your, as your- Would you? I do, so it would be here. I would put mine on the top, personally. Well, that's how I learn.
27:27
I think the last time I did that, I was, like, 22. Wow. Wow. You're not old. I was gonna say 17. [laughs] I was gonna say it was like last week or whatever. [laughs] No, I went back in the hard drive on that one.
27:40
Yeah, no. [laughs] Uh, what else do we have to blow through here? Um, Brent Emery, our buddy over there at Emery Cycles, was on Lake Effect. Oh, I missed that. Talking about bike business during the pandemic. Oh.
27:52
You know he's an Olympic champion, don't you? Yeah, yeah. He is, yeah. Well, silver medal. So that's still- Still a champ. Still a podium guy... it's, it's still... Yeah, damn right. Damn right.
27:59
But he, yeah, it was pretty good. I just randomly caught it since I, I don't know if there was nothing on our favorite station to listen to at MSE- Yeah... but I listen to NPR now and again, too. I do, too. Me too.
28:09
I, you know. And I just happened to catch that segment. I'm like, "That sounds like Brent." He was one of my accounts in the olden times when I worked for a local bicycle parts distributor.
28:18
Did you go to school in Olympia? What? > > Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So I have to just throw a little- Oh, I haven't heard that one for a while...
28:28
quick story about my, um, fat bike adventure, electric fat bike adventure in the snow on Sunday. Hey- All right, Ken Kesey. So I- [laughs] [laughs] So I rolled in here to grab the, uh, Surface, the Boar- 604 Boar...
28:44
604 Boar. [sings] And he said to take it out for a little bit of ride, and I tell you, you know how last week we were talking about how it makes you feel like Colin Ford? Yeah.
28:52
I'm just gonna tell you right now, makes you feel like motherfucking Colin Ford. [laughs] It was awesome. I did the beer line. I did the beer line up to the...
29:02
And, and here's my point on this and why this was just so funny is I went down the, um- Don't tell me... Commerce there so I could get onto the switchback. Right. And I approached a gigantic snow pile from the plow.
29:15
Oh, and there's just... [growls] Well, you know what? Electric fat bikes are really heavy, but you know what? They have a throttle. Right. There's a reason.
29:25
So to walk over a gigantic snowbank is pretty easy when you're gently throttling a fat bike. Oh, you were off of it? I was off of it walking- You'd be s-... over...
29:31
you'd be surprised how light the front end on that thing is when you hit the throttle. Oh, you can get over it? Oh, you can just kinda loft it and it, it, yeah.
29:37
It, it did the entire switchback with a huge smile on my face. I just cannot get over how fun- Was my donut still there from the previous week? Uh, no, completely covered. [laughs] There's a lot of snow out there.
29:47
[laughs] Oh, true. Yeah. Hey, do you guys remember Earl from, uh- Of course... the, the old school, um, whatchuma call it, Cory? Cory's. Bike fencer. And he was later at Ben's. Right.
29:59
Well, he now owns a shop down near- Yes, he does... Atlanta, north of Atlanta. Atlanta, north of Atlanta. Yeah. But he was in, uh, he was on, in, in singletracks.com.
30:06
They were talking to Earl, how Earl's bike shop is handling the pandemic. Yeah? More of the pandemic thing. And he's even on a freaking podcast for freaking sake. Well, how come he's- So I'm-...
30:15
not on our podcast or something? Right? Well, 'cause we haven't called him yet. [laughs] But here's the thing. Here's the thing about Milwaukee. Here's the thing.
30:20
But he can call us at the number, which is- 717-727-2453... 727. And that spells bike. Um, yeah, Earl's doing well down there. Um, he's a Special Ed dealer, and, uh, you know, he's, uh- He's special Earl... special Earl.
30:35
There you go. [laughs] For Earl. [laughs]From hard Mudley [laughs] Mudley.
30:46
Um, so, um, again, with the transplants, Earl, uh, you know, Dan last week, this and that, Milwaukee produces a lot of interesting folks, folks We're spider webbing out Is he from Milwaukee originally?
30:57
I thought he was from Madison. Do not know. He may be from Madison. I think he's from Madison. 'Cause he worked at Rev too after he left, uh- Yeah, he did...
31:03
at, uh, which I stopped in and saw Jeff at Revolution, and we stopped at, uh, Black Saddle and saw Mitch- Nice... while we were in town there in Madison, and we had some excellent beef brisket.
31:15
I don't remember the name of the place- Ah... but JP took it, us to it, and I will give you the name.
31:19
'Cause if you get to Madison and you want some dang old beef brisket up, up from [imitates telephone ringing] right there. Bring a hole in the wall there, there. Dang old nine hole in the wall, man.
31:26
Tell you what- Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm... that there a nice place right there. Just gotta go. [knocking] Uh, I gotta- I'll be back in an hour. Okay. Are we gonna all be good? Okay. Mm-hmm. Okay.
31:33
I was at Brem the other day, our local, uh, pubholery. Um, very, very, uh, pandemic friendly with the masking and all that. Sometimes almost militantly- [laughs] Big glasses... militantly masking. Yes, they are.
31:45
Excuse me. I am totally fine with that being the- Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, no, I, I get it. It's like, it's like, yeah- Bring it... can you d- put the mask up between- Yeah, absolutely... sips and, and whatever?
31:53
Which I do, because guess what? And, yeah. I'm, I'm one of the few people I know that hasn't had it yet. Yeah. Besides all three of us haven't, but, uh, as far as I know. But, uh, who knows?
32:01
Anyway, uh, we were there, and, um, uh, I don't remember the dude's name. Jason maybe? Sure. The, the Riverwest Street Hockey dude came in with his T-shirt, so I got Chewy a Riverwest Street Hockey shirt.
32:13
'Cause I don't know if you remember, were you with us? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You were there when he couldn't hit the freaking, you know, this is Mr. Hockey here. It's like, "This, it's easy.
32:21
Just take the puck and hit it in the fucking thing." [laughs] But, um- That was, yeah, after the, uh, um- Here, hold on. You guys talk, I'll show you. It was after the, um [drum rolling] Steel's Reel?
32:33
No, the UWM Fountain Derby. Oh, for fuck's sake. Is that...? Oh, that's a good one. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, shit, yeah. That is fucking awesome. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, it is. That is just, yeah. You're, yes.
32:48
This would be basically- I en-... Black Sabbath's fourth album or some such Right... right? I, um, I envy this already. It says- Mm-hmm... it says on it, uh, hockey is metal. Is metal. Is metal.
33:01
We should take a picture of that right there, eh? Dang old right. Get that up there now and get a little... I'll go get my, my trusty old- We, or we opened the present for you, Chewy... ah, Chewy.
33:14
And it works as a mask for picture-taking purposes. I already told him about it, so he knows it's coming. And also it has the Riverwest Street Hockey logo on the backside. Oh. It is a, I don't know, it's a good idea.
33:26
I mean- Hell yeah... uh, basically they set their, um, goals up across the street and you just, you get to shoot at the hole. Thwack, thwack, thwack. Shoot at the holes. Thwack. There's different numbers on the holes.
33:37
There are bigger- You know-... and smaller holes, and you shoot at the holes and you-... if you, you can be a dang old goalie and just gotta watch the five hole. Little butterfly into the net.
33:45
Gotta give you, gotta give you some props on that. Chewy's actually a goalie, so he probably doesn't shoot that much. True that. Well, he's his goalie coach. He probably has shot before though.
33:54
We know he's done shots before. Anywho. Oh, hell, for, for hells yeah. Bahama mama. Uh, da, da, da, da, I think we got... Oh, Ear-, those, I wore those Endura socks again a few times. And how are they? I love them.
34:07
All right. I haven't even washed them yet, and they don't even stank yet. Oh. [laughs] But I, I think- I just-... I, I say don't mess with a good thing. Right?
34:15
I just love how you can jam your foot in there and it doesn't feel like going into neoprene. It's like [slurping]. Yeah, that is the one thing I have with the Showerspass.
34:21
Although once they're in there and you're wearing them, you don't notice it nearly as much. It's the initial sucking to your foot putting them on that freaks you out. Yes. Uh, I would have an issue with that. Right?
34:31
Yeah. It [slurping]. Yeah. So are we doing any sort of fat bike fun this with... Oh, this weekend's gonna be brutal. This weekend is not the one that we're looking forward to.
34:40
Although, you know, there are two things going on. There's the Road America thing for the Snow Crown- Oh, that's right... and then there's also, um, JP's thing in Madison. Yeah, not doing it.
34:49
But there's over 12 inches, now close to 14 inches of ice upon the old lake up there in, uh- Winnebago... Winnebago Wares.
34:56
And, uh, the next weekend, 13th weekend, is when there are some folks planning on doing something, riding across it, and it looks like it's going to be more in the mid-20s, so.
35:09
Well, that, and- Is that, so it's an unsanctioned bike across bike ride? Well, they're not doing it officially this year- Mm-hmm... because they always did it in conjunction with the walkers.
35:16
Right, walkers had to- And the walkers had all of the, I mean, way stations, and piss areas- Right, right... and bacon eating and all the other stuff. But if the road is plowed across, why the hell not?
35:25
It's only 10 miles. How do they co-op the bacon eating? It isn't that, is it? It's like eight. Well, uh, uh, wait, point of order. How do they co-op the bacon eating? Hmm. I didn't- Oh... know that they did eat bacon.
35:34
Oh. I'm sure they have. Why wouldn't they eat it? Several, two years ago there were several breweries on it too. Yeah. Which, I mean, hey. Uh. It was also glare ice. Also on the- Well, and, and, and- Oh...
35:44
going up to Madison, Mendota, Monona, Ma-mum-mum-mum, those things would be- Which, by the way, Donna O'Donnell fell in- Fell through... too. Yeah. The water. Oh.
35:53
Saved by- Well, I'm saying, I'm saying between now and Shaw- Uh-huh... it shall be- Icier... much, much, much more frigid down into the single digits. Oh, yeah. So- It's gonna be frozen like a mofo...
36:04
that's also another playground that gives- Plus Held's is on the way up there, so. Yeah. And Pine Cone on the way back. So my, uh- Oh, yeah [laughs]... my buddy Joshua- Or on the way back, both ways.
36:15
My buddy Joshua- Oh, no. Pine Cone was... was talking about how the year that, uh, the Milwaukee River froze- Oh... so solid that you could ride up the waterfall at Clutch Park. Did that. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
36:24
That was the shiznizzle. And, and then he said, "Can you imagine doing that on the Boar?" And I was like- Yeah... "Oh." When there's a gaping hole right next to you with the water rushing under it, which was so cool.
36:34
And you're flying up that thing. You know, there was a picnic table on the top of it for a launch ramp so you could launch off of it- [laughs]... and go down the front side of... Oh, it's, yeah. Oh.
36:43
If we got, if only we could get that cold. Yeah. Now, here's the thing. You, you get, you gotta pick one or the other because the warm winter has made it, I think, so that the lake is evaporating, so we get beach back.
36:56
Mm-hmm. At least if it keeps going for a year or two, right? Right. Okay. So otherwise, if it's super cold- Then the lake's really frozen... the lake doesn't, we don't have a beach, but we got river to ride on, so.
37:08
All right. All right. Always look at the bright side of life. Do, do-do, do, do-do, do, do-do. Uh, you know, we got some bikes at the place. I got a extra large Wednesday and a medium Wednesday- Oh...
37:18
which might go away tomorrow- Oh... 'cause Scott's coming in to look at it. Uh, that said, uh- I'd say he's getting them... please consider getting yourself something nice from the old Everyday Cycle store too. Yeah.
37:27
I mean, you know- Please support us... heck it, nobody pays us to do this- Yeah... except for your fine support by, you know. Or send us beer. Oh, that wouldn't be bad. Or come to Milwaukee and bring beer.
37:37
Yeah, even better. Looking at you, Shannon. Right? All right, Dan. Uh, thank you now. Thank you now. Thanks to Jason for being on the show. Thank you. Thank you. JK for bringing beer. Bye.
37:48
Show 100 hopefully at the new spot. Yeah, yeah. Otherwise, uh, we'll be here, whatever. 99. Don't worry about it. Next week, 99. Yeah.
37:53
[upbeat music]
