- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I think this webinar is a must if you're interested in leveraging your podcast and your guests to promote your book, or if you want to use your book to promote and grow your podcast.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Even if you don't yet have a podcast or if you haven't yet written a book, join us to discover how these two powerful tools can work together to build your impact, influence, and income.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: There's a link in the show notes, and I hope to see you there.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: Okay, let's get into today's episode.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: In September 1976, the American rock band Boston released their single called More Than a Feeling.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: And a song comes on that reminds him of a former love, and what he experiences is quote unquote more than a feeling.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But in a way, this song title could also describe writers who are doing the work day by day.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: How many times have you heard writers who talk about the need to feel inspired or how they're waiting for the muse to show up and give them the magic words?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: The writers who consistently make a difference are the ones who know that the creative process is more than just a feeling.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: They're the ones who have more consistent success because they're not just waiting for inspiration to strike.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Seth Godin talks about the need for consistent work in his awesome book called The Practice, which focuses on helping creative people ship their work.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: He says this your work is too important to be left to how you feel today.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: On the other hand, committing to an action can change how we feel.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: If we act as though we trust the process and do the work, then the feelings will follow.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: Waiting for a feeling is a luxury we don't have time for.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Now let's say you woke up feeling grumpy this morning, or maybe you're feeling discouraged, or you're irritated at some situation with your family or a coworker.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Maybe you just flat out don't feel like writing today.
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: Well, I would say never mind all that stuff.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Those are feelings that ebb and flow like all emotions do.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: It's time to put on your big boy or big girl riding pants.
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: It's time for you to sit down in the chair and just get to work.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: I promise your future self will thank you.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time.
