Transcript
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: I'm signed on to a lot of other digital creators.
- 1:00SPEAKER_03: They send the same like sales email, sales email, sales email.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I don't even know this person.
- 1:05SPEAKER_03: I've never once connected with them.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: It's just the standard, hey, I'm having a sale today, or hey, I'm having a sale today.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: And it's just like I love the fact that you can be creative with your program and still benefit and help grow your audience.
- 1:20SPEAKER_03: Welcome everyone.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: Today we are joined by the queen of email.
- 1:25SPEAKER_03: I can't even believe that she has graced us to be on our show.
- 1:28SPEAKER_03: Liz Wilcox, welcome.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, they flatter me and I love it.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: And now I'll definitely be back.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Let's do this.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited.
- 1:41SPEAKER_03: I wanted to have you come onto the show because one of the key components that I learned from you was having email, and that's where the money is at: is creating a list, making sure that you're emailing regularly.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: There's a lot of like self-sabotage that I found that I did.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: Like, what is anyone gonna want to hear what I have to say?
- 2:00SPEAKER_03: And your program is very simple, it's very affordable, and it it kind of throws a flare into email that I never saw before.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: So, for all transparency, Liz has actually been my um coach in email before.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: So she kind of has helped me right along and come to where I am.
- 2:17SPEAKER_03: So sometimes my emails are super funny, and other times I'm like, not so much.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Hey, but that's great.
- 2:25SPEAKER_02: So yeah, tell the audience about how important it is to get those email lists.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Listen, do y'all remember?
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: You know, I know you're probably driving, listening to this, maybe you're walking your dog, doing the dishes, something, but raise your hand, go ahead.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Nobody's nobody's watching.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Raise your hand if you were alive in you know, 2021, 2022, and you remember when a billionaire bought a social media platform, right?
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:49SPEAKER_01: We all remember that.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, keep your hand raised because remember when he bought that, he changed the name of it, he lost half of his users, all of the sponsorship dollars, etc.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: If you had built your entire audience, all your leads were on that social media platform.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Suddenly you're wondering, where'd they go?
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Where's my audience?
- 3:14SPEAKER_01: Right, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, there it's always up in the air, right?
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: They're always changing things, or the government is saying, we don't want you anymore, or Mark Zuckerberg is saying, actually, it's gonna go, it's gonna work this way now, right?
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Building your audience and trying to find all your leads on a social media platform is you know really risky because you could be shadow banned, they could shut down your Facebook group.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: I was with a guy, he owns powwows.com, literally the largest Native American website on the planet.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: And guess what?
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: He had like a Facebook group of 80,000 people.
- 3:55SPEAKER_01: He's been building it for like a decade.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: And guess what?
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: A few weeks ago, Facebook just turned it off.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: No explanation, it's gone.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: Guess you, I don't know if y'all can see Shannon's face, but it's literally it's giving a lot.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: It's literally the emoji of like, oh no, like it looked like an emoji.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: But he was not worried because he has an email list.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: He's like, my email list is over a hundred thousand.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: You know, everybody in that group is probably on my email list or is gonna get on my email list when they realize the group is gone, right?
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: And so that is to Jamie's question why email is so important.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: You own your email list, you're not at the mercy of some algorithm, some, you know, billionaire who decides to switch it up because dot, dot, dot, who knows, right?
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: With email, you own those email addresses.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: You know, I opt in to hear more from Jamie, to hear more from Shannon, right?
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: And so they can email me.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: And whether they decide to use active campaign today and convert kit tomorrow, I'm going with them, right?
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: That's not anything you can do with any other platform.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: I know that during the TikTok, the TikTok controversy.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness, that's when everybody needed to pivot a little bit.
- 5:13SPEAKER_02: But I was listening to Shannon way before this ever came across and was grabbing out for my clients, for my for all of it.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: Grabbing those emails way before that happened.
- 5:29SPEAKER_02: And that was a moment of me and Shannon was like, we gotta tell everybody to make sure, make sure you grab your emails.
- 5:38SPEAKER_03: You know, it's so important.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Versus where Facebook is at least here in America, um, or the other social media platform that we were just discussing.
- 5:55SPEAKER_03: Uh so so there's there's that element too, because you're you're pleading to God knows what.
- 6:03SPEAKER_03: If you if something, if your channel is really large on TikTok and it goes down, there's kind of like no recourse.
- 6:08SPEAKER_03: You're just sort of like Yeah, you're just you know, SOL.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 6:15SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 6:16SPEAKER_02: Everybody hears me talk about it all the time.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: I use Jobber, and in Jobber, I yeah, I am on what I built my business through there, capturing all those, not just their phone numbers, but capturing no matter what, they have to put their email address in there.
- 6:34SPEAKER_02: And later down the road, we can do those email campaigns, and that has generated a lot of revenue for our business just from running an email campaign.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: I love that, yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: And and y'all, it is remarkable to me how many businesses that this benefits.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Like I have a membership and I have so y'all, I have a nun in there that sells children's books.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: I have somebody that's a local car dealer or I'm sorry, detailer, right?
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: And so he details cars and he got in there this summer.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And I just I met him in person and he's like, What do you do?
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: I said, Yeah, try it out.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: And he ran one of the campaigns and he emailed me.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: He's like, Holy crap, that one email made me$25,000.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: I got a fleet in from that email.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: And it's just, you know, and but I also have just, you know, like YouTubers or small course creators.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: And they said, Oh, you know, like I'm connecting with my audience.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: I feel like I can finally understand them so that I can create the content they actually want to click on.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I can create the products they actually want to buy.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: And so it doesn't really matter what your business is, you know, whether you're a local in-person business or you're trying to branch out into the digital space, email is where it's at, baby.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm getting fired up.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: On church on Sunday right now.
- 8:03SPEAKER_03: Amen.
- 8:04SPEAKER_03: I think part of the problem when you first dip your toe into email is what to say.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: And that's what I loved most about your templates because it gives you a prompt and then you can put your own spin on it and it makes it fun.
- 8:19SPEAKER_03: And then it it it kind of like shows your personality.
- 8:23SPEAKER_03: Where a lot of emails I get, because I'm signed on to a lot of other digital creators, they send the same like sales email, sales email, sales email.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, I don't even know this person.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: I've never once connected with them.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: It's just the standard, hey, I'm having a sale today, or hey, I'm having a sale today.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 8:39SPEAKER_03: And it's just like I love the fact that you can be creative with your program and still benefit and help grow your audience.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: Thank you so much.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: So to Shannon's point about, you know, sales, email, sales, email.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Y'all, I'm gonna let you in on a secret.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Most of my emails are sales emails, but Shannon looks at them differently because of how I approach the content.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: It's the connection first and the conversion second, right?
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: So it's not ever about closing a sale, it's about opening up a relationship, right?
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: So it's about how do I get to know Shannon?
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: Before we hit record, we got on.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh my gosh, Shannon, I'm so excited.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen you in forever, right?
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Like I remember the last time we were on Zoom.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: It was like wintertime, January 2023.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Like it's been a while, okay?
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Why do I know that?
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: Because for me and my content, especially with my emails, it's connection first, right?
- 9:35SPEAKER_01: How do we do that?
- 9:36SPEAKER_01: Is very actually pretty simple.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: People want to connect with other people, okay?
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: So we don't have to give these long drawn-out stories that a lot of other email marketers might teach you.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Really, it's just about that personal connection and giving a personal update.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: This is just two to three sentences in your email before you get into the content or the pitch or whatever about something you've done since the last time you emailed them.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Really, really simple.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Just two to three sentences again about something you've done since the last time you emailed.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: For me, and we did this before we even hit record.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: I was like, oh, sorry, guys, I don't have my regular podcast mic.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I just drove through the night to North Carolina, but I, you know, I made it.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: That's two or three sentences.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Suddenly they understood where I was, what's going on.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: We were able to hit record.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: You can do that in your emails.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Hey, I'm just writing this writ this email is gonna be super quick because I gotta go pick up my kids from practice, or you know, I'm running late to the vet's office, or you know, I just don't feel like I have anything to say.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna drop the link here, right?
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: That's just a little personal, right?
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: But y'all, y'all laugh at that because it's so relatable, right?
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And those personal updates, those two to three sentences are relatable, right?
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: All those things going to the vet, picking up the kids, even if you don't have a dog or kids.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: You oh, my friend has to do that today too, or oh, yep, you know, my sister just took her dog to the vet.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: What is in the water lately?
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: You know, you're relating to me.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Because humans want to relate.
- 11:09SPEAKER_01: So it's actually pretty simple.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: So with your content, just putting that personal update and then just segueing into the content.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Y'all, I know I said a big word, Jamie.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: I know segue, right?
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Like, uh, I'm not a writer.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: How do I segue, right?
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: Just hit the calf slot, baby.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Anyway, dot dot dot.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Just type in anyway, dot dot dot.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: What I really needed to talk to you about is this new podcast episode, my new YouTube video.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: 20% off coming Black Friday.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Just wanted to give you a heads up, right?
- 11:39SPEAKER_01: Whatever.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Super, super simple.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: So I love that Shannon brought that up about the content because the content is so much simpler than you think.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 11:49SPEAKER_03: I feel like it really kind of helps me grow that email list.
- 11:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, I went from having a couple hundred, I have five thousand.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: I don't have as large of an audience as you do, Liz, but it I have 5,000 people on my email list.
- 11:59SPEAKER_03: I'm pretty proud of it.
- 12:00SPEAKER_03: I would like to hit 10,000, but it's it's a work in progress.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: That's me.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: Shannon, I can I, y'all, y'all are supposed to be interviewing me, but I want to, I want to ask Shannon a question.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: So you said it, you started small.
- 12:16SPEAKER_01: So what would you say is like the number one way you grew your email list?
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Because I know, you know, you could have the an invitation to the greatest party of all time, but we gotta have people on our list to read it.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: So how how did you grow that list to 5,000?
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: Because that's really impressive.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: The there, the funnel, and this is the the setup for me.
- 12:35SPEAKER_03: It's the the podcast gets them over to the Facebook group.
- 12:38SPEAKER_03: If they join the Facebook group, it signs them up for my email list, or they just on my website.
- 12:45SPEAKER_03: There isn't another.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: I've tried other avenues, but that seems to work for now.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: Doesn't mean that it'll work next year.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: It's just that's my funnel for today.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: I would like for them to join my email list.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: But that it's, you know, there's the good emails and then there's the bad email list.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: You're on the baddie list because they don't really want, you know, they give the Yahoo! I'm like, who uses Yahoo?
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, you know, that is so funny you mentioned that because yesterday I I checked into a hotel to sleep for a few hours and I used my hotmail account and I said, Yes, hotmail still exists.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And she said, girl, you would be surprised.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: AOL, Yahoo, people are still using it.
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: So don't like if you're looking at your email list and you see a bunch of Yahoos, that sounds funny, and hotmails and AOLs.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: People still do open those emails.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: So I love that Shannon said she uses her Facebook group.
- 13:37SPEAKER_01: So what she's doing is when you click to join her group, something pops up, you know, talking about the rules.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: And then she's asking you, hey, do you want to join the email list with whatever incentive?
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: And y'all, 5,000 people, that's amazing.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: That's an amazing, awesome way to join the list.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: And I love this as a way to grow your list because also they're getting on your email list.
- 14:01SPEAKER_01: But Shannon has a second touch point, the original touch point of the Facebook group.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: So not only are you seeing her in your Facebook feed, right?
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: And seeing that topic in your Facebook feed, then when you go to your inbox, oh yeah, there's Shannon.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: I just saw her over on Facebook.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Let me open it, see what's popping, right?
- 14:19SPEAKER_01: So that's a great, great, awesome way to grow your email list with warm leaves that are gonna stay on there longer.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: A plus Shannon.
- 14:29SPEAKER_03: Woohoo! Nice.
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah, when you sign up for my list, you usually get a free little mini course just as part of the funnel, and then it hooks you up to an automated 52-week email sequence.
- 14:39SPEAKER_03: Pretty simple, like, hey, this is me.
- 14:42SPEAKER_03: Okay, hey, it's me again.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: No, hey, it's me one more time.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, perfect.
- 14:49SPEAKER_01: So, Jamie, do you have a welcome sequence?
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: You have that automated sequence as well.
- 14:54SPEAKER_02: I have Sarah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: I have Sarah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_03: Sarah's still working on getting on.
- 15:00SPEAKER_02: I I still and but I have a booking platform that captures I'm just now starting to dip my toe into the coaching and mentoring and helping people get to at least to where I'm at.
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: That part is getting it's just I'm just now building my platform for that.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Well, this is perfect because let's let's talk about let's talk about what Jamie needs then, right?
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: So when it comes to email marketing, you know, when you're just starting out, I want you to think of it as just just three types of emails.
- 15:35SPEAKER_01: So what Shannon was talking about when you join her email list, she's popping in, reminding you, hey, this is me, don't forget, etc.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: So Jamie needs that too.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: That's called a welcome sequence or an onboarding, sometimes called a nurture sequence as well.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: So in your welcome sequence, I just want you to show off three things, okay?
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: Your personality, right?
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Shannon and Jamie and I, we have a lot of it, right?
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So for us, it might be a little simpler, but your personality doesn't have to be off the wall, super extrovert, right?
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: It can just be little pieces of you that you want people to know.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: For example, I love the 90s.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: I'm not at home, but usually I've got, you know, I've got like an in-sync plaque on the wall.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: I've got the fresh prints, I've got survivors, Steve Martin, all this stuff.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: I love the 1990s.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I've got my headband.
- 16:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where's my headband?
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I'm very 90s, okay?
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: And so I just share that in my welcome sequence.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Hey, I love email and I love the 90s, right?
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Then I share my vision.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: This is where Jamie's really got to share.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Where, you know, okay, I'm just getting into coaching.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: What do I want from my clients?
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: Where am I taking them?
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: And I love Shannon is from, you know, Clean Freaks University, because I always say it's like they're enrolled in your university, and one day they're gonna walk across your stage and you're gonna hand them the degree, right?
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: What's that degree?
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: That's the vision, right?
- 17:01SPEAKER_01: For me, it's you make money with your email list.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: I don't care if you've got a podcast mic, if your lighting is off, how much content you create.
- 17:09SPEAKER_01: All I care about is that you can grow your email list and monetize it, right?
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: That's the vision.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: So Jamie's gonna share that in her welcome sequence.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: You know, I want my students to XYZ.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: For me, again, I share, you know, by the end of this, you're gonna be making money with email marketing.
- 17:27SPEAKER_01: That's my vision for you.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: And you can just say it as plain as day as that.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: And the last thing, so we said personality vision, the last thing is some values.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Now, this is not spew your politics everywhere.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Literally, no one is asking for that.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, don't go there.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: But this is there are there are certain principles that guide the way that you do things, right?
- 17:50SPEAKER_01: Guide the type of clients you want, right?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: And so sharing some of that is important in the welcome sequence.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: So people know, like, yep, Jamie is a safe place.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: This is where I want to be, this is who I want to learn from.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: For example, one of my values is to have fun and make mistakes.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: So you're gonna see typos, you're gonna see me on video laughing and making jokes and not taking it too seriously, right?
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: That but that's my value.
- 18:16SPEAKER_01: So I want to put that up front so that when they join my next Zoom call or I ask them to listen to my podcast, or you know, they see a couple typos in an email, they're not freaking out, right?
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Because they know, oh, Liz values making mistakes.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: She believes that's part of having fun and not taking it so seriously, right?
- 18:37SPEAKER_01: And so sharing that up front allows the wrong people to get off my list, right?
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, have fun.
- 18:44SPEAKER_01: No, this is serious business, lady.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Peace out, right?
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Or the right people to stay on.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Have fun.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Really with email, I'm so intrigued.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: Let me stay on.
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: So again, Jamie and her welcome sequence, she's got to put a little personality, share her vision and her values.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: And that's how we're gonna set people up to stay on her list for a long time.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: Right along with Shannon, Shannon actually probably should add me as somebody onto her email under Clean Freaks University instead of just the hype person.
- 19:21SPEAKER_02: I know we're live right now.
- 19:22SPEAKER_02: Instead of just the hype person, because I believe in it so much.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: And I know there's others out there that believe in it so much, and we'll talk about that later.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: But I love this.
- 19:39SPEAKER_02: And it's yeah, and it's been great because we show it basically showcase I make mistakes and I I'm literally learning right alongside with everybody else, and that's how it goes.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: That's how it's been going.
- 19:54SPEAKER_02: It just kind of morphed into that, and I really like this.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: So personality, vision, and values.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Amen.
- 20:04SPEAKER_02: So you gotta get you gotta get these are people that are already trying to sign up with you.
- 20:11SPEAKER_02: They they've asked to be on your email list.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 20:15SPEAKER_02: You're not going out there trying.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Well, I guess, yeah, I guess you're like out there trying to network and get, you know, when you go out networking, you you're trying to grab email lists.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: So for me, yeah.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: So for me, the email list, like we said, is it's one of the most important tools in your toolbox, right?
- 21:02SPEAKER_01: Because you own it, right?
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Even if you, again, if you're this in-person business, right?
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: You know, the best customer is a repeat customer.
- 21:10SPEAKER_01: So getting their email and even just following up, you know, once a month, right?
- 21:15SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: With those people that maybe they, you know, maybe they get their house cleaned once and they say, oh, you know, it's just a special gift for my wife for Mother's Day or whatever.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: But if you're emailing, Christmas is coming up, you know, Thanksgiving is coming up.
- 21:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, there's lots of other things, right?
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: And so stay on top of mind, or maybe the wife loves it so much, you know, and you keep emailing, like, oh, maybe I should just get that for her as a once-a-month thing.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: So you've turned one sale into many, right?
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: And you can do that with getting the emails.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Definitely.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: And the great thing about Liz's product, her membership is there's a little mini course in there and it tells you how to make everything work.
- 21:58SPEAKER_03: And there is, I don't know how many templates are in there.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: There's hundreds, if not thousands, of all right, let's go with hundreds.
- 22:08SPEAKER_03: There's a lot to choose from inside of her membership.
- 22:10SPEAKER_03: It's really economical, and she has a an annual sale, and every once in a while you throw out a lifetime thing too, once in a while.
- 22:18SPEAKER_03: But yeah, I I don't I think it's been four years, I want to say, of me being part of your ecosystem.
- 22:25SPEAKER_03: So I think it's awesome.
- 22:26SPEAKER_03: I check them out.
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: Sometimes I respond, sometimes I'll hop on.
- 22:29SPEAKER_03: It just depends because of the time zones, you know how that goes.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: So, but yeah, I thought this was really important because I think a lot of cleaning business owners are not thinking about this aspect of their business because it is a layer of marketing and it's that direct connective hey, I'm here.
- 22:46SPEAKER_03: Like, hey, I'm I'm over here, you know, still still over here.
- 22:49SPEAKER_03: It seems a bit more personal, doesn't it?
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: I I would yes, yes, yeah.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: I think how do people get on to your subscription?
- 23:00SPEAKER_02: How can they connect with you?
- 23:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's so kind.
- 23:03SPEAKER_02: Thanks for asking.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you know, you don't do link.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, thank you.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: So you can just check the link in the show notes, I'm sure it'll be there.
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: But also you can go directly to listwilcox.com.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: There's a yellow bar at the top of the website that says, Did you hear about my membership?
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Click here.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And so the membership Membership itself is$9 a month.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: And the main thing, I created it because email does feel, to Jamie's point, more personal.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: And that can also make it feel harder, right?
- 23:36SPEAKER_01: And especially if you've got this cleaning business, et cetera, you got a lot to do, right?
- 23:40SPEAKER_01: You're juggling a lot.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: You know, the last thing you want to do is sit down and write.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: Like I'm not a writer, right?
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: But I am.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: So you get inside the membership, you just use my templates, especially for cleaning businesses.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: You know, I've got a hundred plus templates in there.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: I'm sure of it by now.
- 23:56SPEAKER_01: The membership's four, four and a half years old.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: And, you know, you don't need all of them, but the right one might resonate with you.
- 24:04SPEAKER_01: And the whole point is to just connect with those people, right?
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: And even if you have people on your list, you know, like, oh Liz, they've been customers forever.
- 24:13SPEAKER_01: I don't need to email them.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's good to connect with your customers so that they get to know you.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: So they that creates loyalty, that creates referrals, okay?
- 24:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: When, you know, raise your hand if you need more referrals, right?
- 24:29SPEAKER_01: And so if you're staying top of mind with, you know, maybe Shannon's been a client of yours for two years, and yeah, of course, you know, you're in her house once a week, once every other week, but she's not there usually.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: Or if she is, she might be in her office, or you know, you're not interacting a lot, right?
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: But if you email and say, hey, you know, here's something funny that happened this week while I was cleaning, or here's what I listen to while I'm cleaning, here's what I do in the hiring process, hire new cleaners.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: I'm feeling better about your company.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: I'm feeling better about you.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: I feel like I have a connection to you.
- 25:06SPEAKER_01: I'm growing more attached so that when I'm at the, you know, Thanksgiving dinner and my cousin is complaining about nobody helps her with her housework.
- 25:16SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, I love Liz.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Oh, she's so cool.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: You know, she does these little email things.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: They're so fun.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: I've never, you know, like I didn't think I'd be into that, but I just love hearing that, you know, while she was cleaning my house this week, she was listening to the new Taylor Swift album.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: That's what I was listening to.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: Isn't that so fun?
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Like, you gotta check her out.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: You gotta check, just get on her email list and see if you get like a feel for her, get a vibe before you let her in her in your house, right?
- 25:42SPEAKER_01: You know, that's the conversations people have.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: Am I wrong?
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: I'm not wrong, right, Jamie?
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: Not at all.
- 25:48SPEAKER_02: I'm wearing all ears here.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: So my heights are now.
- 25:54SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: So it's definitely not completely out of the question, right?
- 26:00SPEAKER_01: To email as this local business, as this, you know, your business needs lots of referrals, it needs that loyalty, right?
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Email is that of an advantage.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: It's really correct.
- 26:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's really part of oh, this this company, they care, they send out anniversary uh newsletters.
- 26:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm still a client, but look, they're giving me a discount for usually we don't do discounts, but during you know, the holiday season, my goodness, and this is just so much more it this doesn't even pertain just to the cleaning industry.
- 26:41SPEAKER_02: This this is for the everybody, everybody should be doing this.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, this is a huge branding, marketing opportunity space.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I love Jamie's such a smart cookie.
- 26:56SPEAKER_01: I wasn't even thinking that, but that's so true.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: And a lot of my members, you know, maybe you're in the first zero to three years of your business or you're in this rut, right?
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: And it's like you can just feel like a grind, like you're this one person trying to do all these things and get these things off the ground, right?
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: And I have so many members tell me when they've been consistent with their email, when they start to connect with their customers or potential customers at MERS in that way.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: They say, I feel like a real business, right?
- 27:25SPEAKER_01: Like a real business does this.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: I am branded to Jamie's point, right?
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: People understand what it means when I'm in their inbox.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: You know, they see the little name pop up or the company name, and they know like that's my thing.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: And so it's, I love, love, love that Jamie brought that up.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: That's so smart and it's so true.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: It can really make you branded for your people, like for your readers, and make them understand to take you seriously, right?
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: You're not just this lady cleaning houses or whatever, right?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Or whatever your thing is.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Like you're an actual business.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: This is your actual agenda for the week.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: You know, you're actually trying to connect.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: And then on your side of things, it can make you feel like a, you know, a real business owner.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: Like this is real business owner stuff that I'm doing, right?
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: I'm connecting every week.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: Like, yes, it's it's a it's a grown-up activity.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: And you know what?
- 28:23SPEAKER_01: You are grown all the way up.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: So we're grown-up business stuff.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 28:30SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: Great point.
- 28:33SPEAKER_03: So I have to ask, where are you at with like how many subscribers do you currently have on your list?
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: Sure, I've got about 15,000 subscribers, but y'all, I have had this email list, it's gonna be almost six years old.
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: So, and you know, it goes up and down, right?
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: That's all things, but I am always focused on my email list, it is my number one activity.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: I'm constantly thinking about it of how can I get more people?
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Y'all, it's a numbers game.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: It's a numbers game.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: You're never gonna convert 100% of your email list, right?
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: You don't want to, really.
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: That's almost kind of it's almost kind of like you don't want every client out there.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: Not all money is good money.
- 29:18SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: So it is a numbers game.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: So I let's go over some basics for the people who are listening.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: Two to three percent open rate for email is good.
- 29:28SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to remember what that is.
- 29:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 29:31SPEAKER_03: No, two to two percent to buy from the email.
- 29:34SPEAKER_03: Yes, okay.
- 29:35SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say she misquoted herself.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: So never mind what I said.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: So when you sell something, a a one to three percent conversion rate is pretty average.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: So, you know, again, this numbers, right?
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: So if you've got a hundred people on your email list, you know, if you can get one client or one to three clients out of that, you're doing pretty good, right?
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Per purchase, yes.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: I love that distinction.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: That's great.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: And then open Web.
- 30:11SPEAKER_02: That's that's pretty that's a good conversion rate.
- 30:15SPEAKER_02: If if you can sending out a hundred, all you have to do is send out a hundred emails and maybe one or one to three.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: If you're if you're handing out a hundred flyers, you know, on the street, you might not get any clients, right?
- 30:32SPEAKER_01: So as far as open rates and click rates go, what I want you listening to understand is the number should just be one percent better than what you're doing right now.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Don't worry too much about the the average, right?
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: Don't don't be like, oh well, you know, Liz said 50%, and I'm only at 30.
- 30:55SPEAKER_01: I suck, right?
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: So whatever your percentage rate is, just try to increase it by 1%.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Now I will caveat that here's a little asterisk.
- 31:03SPEAKER_01: Ding ding ding, pay attention.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: If your open rate is below 20%, that is a problem.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: That indicates to me that you likely have a lot of spam on your email list, or your email list and your email address is not what I call authenticated.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: This is getting into a little technical.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: You can Google it, or we'll put we'll put my blog post in the show notes for you because I don't want to bog this down with a bunch of technical stuff.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: But basically, the internet gods, Google, Yahoo, Hotmail, you know, we were laughing about them earlier on the show.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Basically, you need a driver's license to send emails, to send mass emails.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: If I just send one email to Shannon, one email to Jamie, that's fine.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: We're just doing one-on-one.
- 31:52SPEAKER_01: But if I'm sending mass emails to hundreds of people, basically you need a driver's license, right?
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: When cars first came out, you could get on the road, you could drive.
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Guess what?
- 32:00SPEAKER_01: Too many cars on the road, too many crashes.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: The government stepped in and said, Hey, you know what?
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe, maybe we you should, we should test you before you start driving, right?
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: That's what happened with the internet, right?
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Too many emailers, too many pieces of spam.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: And, you know, the internet god stepped in and said, you know what?
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: We want to make sure that's actually Liz.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: That's actually Jamie sending it.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: So it's just an email authentication.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: It's just like a little stamp of approval that says, yep, you put these pieces of code in the back of your domain, you're good to go.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: It's really relatively simple.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: If you can't figure it out, you can pay somebody like a hundred bucks to do it.
- 32:40SPEAKER_01: But the purpose of that is if your open rate is hovering between like five and 15%, you are likely not authenticated, meaning the internet gods just aren't even sending your emails.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: They're not even being sent.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: It's not that they're landing in spam, it's not that nobody's opening them.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: It's that the internet gods said, you know, put you in front of a stop sign and are not letting you pass.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So that we're gonna put a blog post in the show notes for you.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: No big deal.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: You can check it out.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: I've got some links in there on how to do it yourself or who to go to that I recommend.
- 33:15SPEAKER_01: But again, that's only if your open rates are, you know, five to 15%.
- 33:20SPEAKER_01: Now, if you're just starting to email, you haven't really started.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: You have to get that authentication in order to email.
- 33:28SPEAKER_01: So make sure you check out that blog post.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: So 1% over what you're already sending is totally fine.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: And it's just an interesting dynamic of how this has just come into the correlation it is to now.
- 33:41SPEAKER_03: Because in the past, there were, I mean, people would give you like you you would get I well, I probably should admit this.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: So now you would take your ex's email address and sign them up to win the car, right?
- 33:52SPEAKER_03: And then then they're LOL.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah, o well.
- 33:57SPEAKER_03: That's funny.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, don't do that.
- 34:00SPEAKER_03: So then they would get like 1,500 emails from you know, random people because they would sell the thing and sell the thing and sell the thing.
- 34:06SPEAKER_03: I was young and stupid, I admit it.
- 34:08SPEAKER_03: But um we're from the same time era.
- 34:13SPEAKER_02: That's so funny.
- 34:24SPEAKER_02: Just for you guys listening, you never win the car.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: But you will get a lot of emails.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, you will get a lot of emails.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: I guess that's too many years of being bullied when I was young.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: But yeah, that that's I think it's great.
- 34:43SPEAKER_03: Is there any other advice that you can give besides joining your membership to help people to start getting having it be a goal for 2026?
- 34:52SPEAKER_03: I mean, definitely if you're not doing any email, you're not capturing that one segment of the market and you'll you're letting the fish get away.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I just want to remind people there's just three things you got to think about email.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: You know, obviously grow your list.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: You can Google that.
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: There's a million of one ways.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: But make sure you have that welcome sequence that we were helping Jamie out with earlier.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Make sure you send those newsletters that we've been talking about, that weekly or monthly content.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: And then don't forget to sell.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: You've got to sell to your email list.
- 35:23SPEAKER_01: It's your job.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: You know, if you don't sell, how will they know to buy?
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: So again, it's just that welcome sequence, those newsletters, sprinkle in some sales.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: You got it going on, baby.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited to see what people do.
- 35:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna look it up.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: I'm excited.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: It's just another about the cherry on top, but it's just another layer that for marketing.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: And I don't think a whole lot of people think like that.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: I well, yeah, I can tell you they don't because I remember during the whole TikTok freakout.
- 35:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, and then everybody that was anybody, I seen them.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Oh, let's hurry up and make a class.
- 36:07SPEAKER_02: And guess what they all said?
- 36:10SPEAKER_02: Grab an email.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, join my email list to get the class.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And if that's just let yeah, let's maybe end it just going full circle, you know.
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: If you're growing on TikTok or, you know, even the endless going to in-person events and networking, you know, that's that's gonna be an endless grind, or you're gonna be at the mercy of those social media platforms if you don't gather those email addresses.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: So I'm really excited to see what people do.
- 36:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you're interested, you can check out my membership where I basically write the emails for you, teach you how to grow your list and more.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: It's nine bucks a month.
- 36:47SPEAKER_01: You can go directly to listwilcox.com, hit the yellow button, or if you just want to get started, you can hit a hot pink button at listwilcox.com.
- 36:55SPEAKER_01: You can't miss it.
