Transcript
- 0:04Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken. It's your dose of the
- 0:07Speaker 1: hottest influencer and pop culture news twice a week. I'm
- 0:11Speaker 1: Sophie Torber and coming up on today's show, Britt Hockley
- 0:14Speaker 1: reveals plans for her overseas wedding, Georgie Stevenson sponsored 30th
- 0:19Speaker 1: birthday present, Tammy Hembrough hits out at the Daily Mail
- 0:23Speaker 1: and should you purchase from your friend's small business? But first,
- 0:28Speaker 1: is anyone else craving cucumbers right now? Because My For
- 0:32Speaker 1: You page is full of people testing out a viral
- 0:36Speaker 1: cucumber salad. I have seen this trend floating around. And
- 0:39Speaker 1: at first I was a bit shocked by some of
- 0:40Speaker 1: the images because they almost looked a bit phallic.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:42Speaker 1: Well, the cover photo is always someone holding up a
- 0:46Speaker 1: large cucumber, like directly at the camera. I wonder if
- 0:49Speaker 1: that's what initially got these recipes a lot of traction
- 0:52Speaker 1: because there is a TikToker called Logan and He is
- 0:57Speaker 1: asking people to join his cucumber community. So on his page,
- 1:00Speaker 1: he creates a ton of different cucumber recipes, but there's
- 1:04Speaker 1: one that is taking off at the moment. This guy
- 1:06Speaker 1: is giving me freely the banana girl vibes, like the
- 1:09Speaker 1: fact that he's only promoting recipes on cucumbers. It is
- 1:12Speaker 1: absolutely bizarre. I have never seen someone consume this volume
- 1:16Speaker 1: of cucumber before. And this video has had over 20
- 1:19Speaker 1: million views on TikTok. I really want to try it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I'm one of those people, I feel left out that
- 1:23Speaker 1: I haven't tried it yet because my partner, the only
- 1:26Speaker 1: vegetable he really eats, he's in the other room. I
- 1:28Speaker 1: don't want him to hear me say this, but it's cucumber.
- 1:31Speaker 1: And his grandpa had a trick where he would put
- 1:33Speaker 1: cucumber with salt on it and it tastes really good.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So this is part of this viral recipe. So you
- 1:38Speaker 1: put the salt on it so that it draws out
- 1:41Speaker 1: the liquid. He then puts all of these different oils
- 1:44Speaker 1: like soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, sesame oil, chili oil,
- 1:48Speaker 1: and then garlic on it. But he did cause a
- 1:50Speaker 1: bit of contention when he added MSG in it. Yeah,
- 1:53Speaker 1: that's why he lost me. But to be honest, I
- 1:55Speaker 1: don't even think it looked very nice. Well, I think
- 1:59Speaker 1: it's one of those things where it looks kind of healthy.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And because everyone's trying it, you want to. He also
- 2:04Speaker 1: eats it with these obnoxious chopsticks, which sort of adds
- 2:07Speaker 1: to the theater of it all. Well, we can test
- 2:11Speaker 1: it out, but I'm telling you, I don't think it's
- 2:13Speaker 1: going to be that good.
- 2:15Speaker 3: I tried on my first wedding dress.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Podcaster Brittany Hockley is on the hunt for her wedding dress.
- 2:21Speaker 1: So she jetted into Melbourne over the weekend to try
- 2:25Speaker 1: dresses on for the first time. And She bought her
- 2:28Speaker 1: stylist and friend Kim along with her to meet with
- 2:30Speaker 1: a designer. Do we know which designer it is? Well,
- 2:34Speaker 1: she didn't specify which designer or which boutique, but my
- 2:37Speaker 1: guess is that she met with Kaya Scott, who runs
- 2:40Speaker 1: Kaya Studio, and she is a Melbourne-based designer who created
- 2:44Speaker 1: her co-host Laura Burns gown. She's also created a number
- 2:47Speaker 1: of other high-profile influences dresses including Steph Clare Smith and
- 2:52Speaker 1: Laura Henshaw and most recently podcasters Zara McDonald's wedding dress
- 2:56Speaker 1: I remember you were going on non-stop about Kaya Studios
- 2:58Speaker 1: when you were looking for a dress but the issue
- 3:00Speaker 1: is they are based in Melbourne and there's not too
- 3:02Speaker 1: many places that stock them here in Adelaide and you
- 3:05Speaker 1: were talking about doing some service where they sent over
- 3:08Speaker 1: the dress yeah well anyone who want because they have
- 3:10Speaker 1: stunning dresses so they have a concierge service where you
- 3:13Speaker 1: can have a dress sent over so I think you
- 3:15Speaker 1: have to pay $ 200 for each dress that's sent over
- 3:19Speaker 1: But then I think that I was really worried about
- 3:21Speaker 1: having to send it back and whether you damage one
- 3:23Speaker 1: of the dresses. Well, it gets taken off the bill,
- 3:25Speaker 1: doesn't it? So there's a bit of pressure to actually
- 3:26Speaker 1: pick that designer. I was spewing because when I locked
- 3:30Speaker 1: in my dress, I ended up going for a Jane
- 3:32Speaker 1: Hill dress. And as soon as I did, this beautiful
- 3:35Speaker 1: boutique on King William Road announced that they were bringing
- 3:39Speaker 1: Kaya Studios to Adelaide and they were going to have
- 3:41Speaker 1: their whole range of dresses. Do you know what I
- 3:43Speaker 1: find so funny? Now that I'm out of that whole
- 3:46Speaker 1: wedding bubble... It just sounds so wanky, all of the
- 3:49Speaker 1: designer names, like even having gone through it all. I
- 3:52Speaker 1: don't think Jane Hill, Jane Hill sounds just a normal name. No,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but I'm just, everyone gets so focused on who the
- 3:57Speaker 1: designer of the dress is. They all end up looking
- 3:59Speaker 1: the same, don't they? Yeah, well, I'm guessing Brit will
- 4:02Speaker 1: look amazing in her dress though. What really surprised me
- 4:05Speaker 1: is she went all the way there and she only
- 4:07Speaker 1: ended up trying one gown on. Yeah. My guess is
- 4:10Speaker 1: that it was more than just trying on the dress.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Perhaps they were discussing what kind of contra agreement they
- 4:15Speaker 1: would come up with.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Well, yeah.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So she brought her stylist along with her. So this
- 4:19Speaker 1: appointment was probably them discussing the concept, what dress Brit
- 4:23Speaker 1: likes and doesn't like. And then they probably found one
- 4:27Speaker 1: gown that sort of suited the tone of what she's
- 4:30Speaker 1: going for. Wait, when you say she's Brit's stylist, is
- 4:32Speaker 1: she just a stylist who's friends with her or is
- 4:34Speaker 1: she her actual stylist? She is her personal stylist. Wow.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 1: So Brit told her listeners that she doesn't know whether
- 4:41Speaker 1: it's cringe or not, but when she came out in
- 4:44Speaker 1: her dress for the first time, when she saw herself
- 4:46Speaker 1: in the gown, she burst into tears. And she said
- 4:49Speaker 1: it was a bit awkward because her stylist, Kim, didn't
- 4:52Speaker 1: shed a tear at all. Well, it's not like Kim's
- 4:55Speaker 1: her mum.
- 4:56Speaker 3: No.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Well, Kim said that she was in stylist mode and
- 4:59Speaker 1: she was too busy studying the structure of the dress
- 5:02Speaker 1: and the design and she wasn't caught up in the emotion.
- 5:05Speaker 1: She obviously saw this as maybe a business deal or
- 5:07Speaker 1: a work thing. It wasn't, you know. It's very sweet
- 5:10Speaker 1: that Britt broke down in tears, but it is funny
- 5:12Speaker 1: when you have these expectations on your friends or even
- 5:15Speaker 1: your family members of how they will react to you
- 5:17Speaker 1: when they see your dress because I remember we spoke
- 5:19Speaker 1: about our mum's reaction and we assumed that mum was know,
- 5:23Speaker 1: like might get sort of emotional looking at some of
- 5:26Speaker 1: us in the wedding dresses, but she was more like, Oh,
- 5:29Speaker 1: is this the right one? And she was like the
- 5:31Speaker 1: ones on say yes to the dress where you're like, nah, nah.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Like she was honest, which is good because you don't
- 5:37Speaker 1: want someone just blowing smoke up your ass and saying
- 5:39Speaker 1: everything looks great. I also think with our mom, she
- 5:41Speaker 1: hasn't always put this pressure on us to get married.
- 5:43Speaker 1: So it hasn't been the biggest thing in her life
- 5:45Speaker 1: to see her kids married, even though she thoroughly enjoyed
- 5:48Speaker 1: all of our weddings. But You can see how important
- 5:50Speaker 1: it is for Brit that she's finally met the one
- 5:52Speaker 1: and I suppose that's why she was so emotional. Well,
- 5:54Speaker 1: I think because she said it's been such a long
- 5:56Speaker 1: time coming and she thought maybe this day wouldn't eventuate,
- 6:00Speaker 1: here's what she said about it.
- 6:02Speaker 3: It was just a moment of like.
- 6:04Speaker 1: It's real.
- 6:05Speaker 4: I'm really crying because of you, but I was like,
- 6:06Speaker 4: oh my God, like I actually found someone who wants
- 6:08Speaker 4: to marry me.
- 6:14Speaker 1: He only sees you for four weeks a year, Brittany.
- 6:16Speaker 3: That's why.
- 6:16Speaker 1: He doesn't know what you're really like.
- 6:18Speaker 3: That's why.
- 6:19Speaker 2: That's why.
- 6:19Speaker 3: The tears were in disbelief. Are we just going to
- 6:22Speaker 3: cry this whole episode?
- 6:23Speaker 4: No, I just had a real moment because, I don't know,
- 6:25Speaker 4: it's like we've talked about it a thousand times. But
- 6:27Speaker 4: I'm not saying 37 is old. I am not saying that.
- 6:31Speaker 3: But I have just battled with some red flags a
- 6:35Speaker 3: long time. You kissed some frogs. And you do go through–
- 6:39Speaker 3: You go through that treacherous mountain, the highs and the
- 6:41Speaker 3: lows of thinking like, okay, it's not going to happen
- 6:43Speaker 3: for me. That's fine. I'm so happy on my own.
- 6:45Speaker 3: And then you meet someone and then you think that's it.
- 6:47Speaker 1: And then it doesn't.
- 6:47Speaker 3: And you're like, okay, here we are again in the pond.
- 6:50Speaker 3: I'm fine. But then to have found the person and no,
- 6:54Speaker 3: it's not easy for us.
- 6:55Speaker 4: We don't see each other often and it's a real battle,
- 6:57Speaker 4: but to feel like I have found the person. And
- 7:00Speaker 4: it was the first moment I was like, oh, I'm
- 7:01Speaker 4: actually getting married. Like I'm going to have a husband
- 7:04Speaker 4: because it's easy to be like, I'm getting married, whatever.
- 7:06Speaker 4: But I haven't thought about it. We hadn't picked a
- 7:08Speaker 4: venue or a date until a couple of days ago.
- 7:10Speaker 4: And then so it was the first moment I was like, oh,
- 7:14Speaker 4: this is happening.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I just know that so many of Brit's listeners are
- 7:18Speaker 1: over the moon for her and it also just reiterates
- 7:20Speaker 1: to a lot of women in their 30s and 40s
- 7:23Speaker 1: that you never know when you're going to meet your person.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I found it interesting that Brit hasn't shown her co-host
- 7:28Speaker 1: Laura burn the dress. Well, Laura said that she's mad
- 7:31Speaker 1: at Brit, well, joked that she's mad at Brit because
- 7:33Speaker 1: she feels like she's gatekeeping information from her and she
- 7:36Speaker 1: desperately wants to see this dress that Brit tried on.
- 7:39Speaker 1: But Brit has decided that she's waited this long to
- 7:42Speaker 1: get married, that she wants to keep her dress as
- 7:44Speaker 1: a surprise. How do you feel about that? I might
- 7:47Speaker 1: be the wrong person to ask because I didn't really
- 7:49Speaker 1: care so much about my dress. I went with a
- 7:51Speaker 1: very simple dress. So for me, I was happy to
- 7:54Speaker 1: show people what I was wearing. I didn't particularly care,
- 7:57Speaker 1: but there are people I know that take the whole
- 7:59Speaker 1: wedding experience very seriously and they don't want anyone to
- 8:02Speaker 1: know about it. It's like all this secrecy around, but
- 8:05Speaker 1: when it's your best friend. I think you can show them.
- 8:08Speaker 1: There are certain people that you should be able to
- 8:10Speaker 1: show your dress to. It depends if Laura is in
- 8:12Speaker 1: the bridal party. And I'm guessing that she's not because
- 8:14Speaker 1: Brit wasn't one of her bridesmaids. Which surprised me.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Well, I suppose they've sort of met later in life.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That being said, I think if you are just a guest,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you almost want that moment where you do see the
- 8:26Speaker 1: bride for the first time. I remember showing my bridesmen
- 8:29Speaker 1: photos of my dress when I was still in the
- 8:31Speaker 1: decision making process. And one of them said that the
- 8:35Speaker 1: dress reminded them of a banana peel. Yeah, because it
- 8:39Speaker 1: was the way that it came out at the front
- 8:42Speaker 1: and it revealed a bit of leg. And I remember
- 8:44Speaker 1: hearing him say that and I was just like, shut up.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Because we all loved that dress. Well, he liked the
- 8:50Speaker 1: other one, which I was very much on the fence about. Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And it is funny when you go back and look
- 8:55Speaker 1: at videos and you're like, oh. Oh, that one was
- 8:57Speaker 1: really nice. Oh no, yours was beautiful. And that's the
- 9:00Speaker 1: bad thing. Sometimes when you involve too many people, you
- 9:03Speaker 1: get all of these contradictory opinions that you just don't need.
- 9:06Speaker 1: There's a lot of interest in where this wedding is
- 9:08Speaker 1: going to be held because obviously Britt's from Australia, but
- 9:11Speaker 1: her fiance Ben plays soccer in Scotland and he's also
- 9:15Speaker 1: originally from Switzerland. So either one of the families was
- 9:19Speaker 1: going to have to travel. But what they've decided on
- 9:21Speaker 1: is that they have selected Bali. So everyone's got to travel.
- 9:24Speaker 1: They're doing a destination wedding, which I think is almost
- 9:27Speaker 1: the fairest thing. Yeah, I think it's a really good idea.
- 9:29Speaker 1: And I like destination weddings, especially when you have a
- 9:33Speaker 1: large amount of people you need to invite because it
- 9:35Speaker 1: whittles out the people that don't really want to go.
- 9:37Speaker 1: And it's a good excuse as well if you're a guest,
- 9:40Speaker 1: if you can't afford to go. Well, Brit is flying
- 9:42Speaker 1: to Bali in a couple of weeks with Keisha, who
- 9:44Speaker 1: is their podcast producer to look at wedding venues. They're
- 9:47Speaker 1: going over there for their birthdays because they're very close.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And she has her heart set on one venue, but
- 9:53Speaker 1: she doesn't know if it'll be available for the date
- 9:55Speaker 1: that they're looking for because their wedding will be happening
- 9:59Speaker 1: sooner than we all expected with Brit saying there's only
- 10:02Speaker 1: one time of the year that they can get married
- 10:04Speaker 1: and it's under a year away. So I'm guessing that
- 10:07Speaker 1: that's due to Ben's sporting commitments and when he's on
- 10:09Speaker 1: off season. Well, I can't wait to see what they do.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I'm excited that it's a Bali wedding. I'm quite surprised.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I had envisioned a Euro wedding. Happening next year in summer.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I'm sure it's going to be very luxurious though. She
- 10:24Speaker 1: said it's going to be a three-day affair.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Slow news day over at Daily Mail.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Tammy Hembrough has slammed the Daily Mail after the publication
- 10:33Speaker 1: falsely accused her of concealing her breast augmentation. Now this
- 10:37Speaker 1: comes after Tammy revealed on her TikTok that she'd undergone
- 10:41Speaker 1: a boob revision, which involves removing the old implants and
- 10:44Speaker 1: replacing them with new ones. The Daily Mail led with
- 10:48Speaker 1: the headline, Tammy Hembrough admits she had cosmetic surgery after
- 10:51Speaker 1: years of denying rumours following mystery hospital procedure. Now, Tammy
- 10:56Speaker 1: jumped on her TikTok declaring that she hates the Daily
- 11:00Speaker 1: Mail and she's always been open about her breast implants.
- 11:04Speaker 1: She said she even vlogged the experience nine years ago.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Let's listen to what Tammy said.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Tammy Hembrough admits she's had cosmetic surgery after years.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Of denying rumours.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Rumors slow news day over at daily mail actually i
- 11:21Speaker 2: think every single day is a slow news day at
- 11:24Speaker 2: daily mail um i literally have never ever denied getting
- 11:29Speaker 2: my boobs done ever i it's in plenty of my
- 11:33Speaker 2: youtube videos back in the day it was literally almost
- 11:36Speaker 2: like eight it was almost nine years ago now that
- 11:39Speaker 2: i got my boobs done i talked about it plenty
- 11:41Speaker 2: of times it's i've never i've literally never denied that
- 11:45Speaker 2: ever ever ever. So like, shut the, I don't want
- 11:51Speaker 2: to swear, but like, anyway, yeah, I got a boob
- 11:56Speaker 2: revision almost 10 years later.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Sue me, sue me. I literally hate Daily Mail. I
- 12:02Speaker 1: hate you.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 12:03Speaker 1: I hate you so much. I've noticed that ever since
- 12:06Speaker 1: Tammy has been dating Matt, that she's been using her
- 12:08Speaker 1: TikTok as a platform to hit back at these negative
- 12:11Speaker 1: media headlines. Well, a lot of her followers were enjoying
- 12:14Speaker 1: the commentary and a lot of them jumped into her
- 12:16Speaker 1: comment section saying that they vividly remember her breast implant
- 12:19Speaker 1: vlog and that she's never tried to hide it. I
- 12:22Speaker 1: wanted to go back through the old archives to see
- 12:25Speaker 1: if I could find this vlog and her videos only
- 12:28Speaker 1: go back as far as seven years ago, so I
- 12:30Speaker 1: couldn't actually find it. But has she had it YouTube
- 12:33Speaker 1: for longer than that? Well, I wonder if maybe she
- 12:36Speaker 1: archived it. I know that that's what a lot of
- 12:37Speaker 1: big influencers end up doing. I went and looked at
- 12:40Speaker 1: Michael Finch's. He's removed... literally all of his old videos.
- 12:44Speaker 1: I was so disappointed. That's so sad. I feel like
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Daily Mail only ran with this headline because they
- 12:50Speaker 1: were hoping readers would assume the plastic surgery that Tammy
- 12:53Speaker 1: has apparently been lying about was her much speculated BBL. Yeah,
- 12:57Speaker 1: there has been so much speculation for years that Tammy
- 13:00Speaker 1: had a BBL and that's because Her bum really is
- 13:03Speaker 1: one of the selling points of her workout guides, but
- 13:06Speaker 1: she has always said, no, that is down to my
- 13:09Speaker 1: hard work. This headline would have performed very well for
- 13:12Speaker 1: the Daily Mail. And that's why they continue to do
- 13:15Speaker 1: it because Tammy Hembrough gets clicks. Now, it seems like
- 13:19Speaker 1: it was the first time many of Tammy's followers have
- 13:22Speaker 1: actually heard her say her own last name because the
- 13:25Speaker 1: comment section was full of people saying that they were
- 13:28Speaker 1: shocked to find out that her last name is Hembro
- 13:31Speaker 1: and not Hembrow. Thank goodness this is one influencer name
- 13:35Speaker 1: we've been pronouncing right the whole time. I felt very
- 13:38Speaker 1: smug when I saw this. Yeah. One user wrote, Girly,
- 13:41Speaker 1: my British self has been saying Hembrow as in eyebrow
- 13:44Speaker 1: for the best part of a decade. Forgive me. Whilst
- 13:47Speaker 1: another said, I was today years old finding out I've
- 13:50Speaker 1: been pronouncing your surname wrong this whole decade. i noticed
- 13:53Speaker 1: that michelle andrews from shameless says hembrow as well throwing
- 13:57Speaker 1: some shade no it made me question whether i was
- 14:00Speaker 1: pronouncing it right because michelle andrews is pretty spot on
- 14:03Speaker 1: yeah well molly may is a big fan of tammy
- 14:06Speaker 1: as well and she says hembrow so someone has started
- 14:09Speaker 1: this yeah guys it is my last day of work
- 14:14Speaker 1: for three weeks Entrepreneur Georgie Stevenson has managed to land
- 14:19Speaker 1: a sponsorship for one of her birthday presents. So the
- 14:22Speaker 1: brand in question is a jeweler called Theodore & Co.
- 14:26Speaker 1: And on the morning of her birthday, she filmed herself
- 14:29Speaker 1: opening a stunning ring called the Oval Trilogy Ring. So
- 14:33Speaker 1: it featured three beautiful diamonds in a row. And she
- 14:37Speaker 1: wrote on Instagram, a diamond for each decade. When I
- 14:40Speaker 1: first saw this post, I thought the ring must have
- 14:43Speaker 1: been from her husband. I thought, well, he has done
- 14:45Speaker 1: very well in choosing out this ring because it's absolutely stunning.
- 14:49Speaker 1: But then I quickly realized, oh no, this must be
- 14:51Speaker 1: a sponsored deal because the ring was all over Georgie's
- 14:55Speaker 1: social media. It was a little bit confusing for followers
- 14:57Speaker 1: because Georgie continued writing, 90% of you chose correctly. I
- 15:01Speaker 1: chose the trilogy oval ring from Theodore & Co., Tim
- 15:05Speaker 1: organized for me to go into the showroom to pick
- 15:07Speaker 1: out something special to represent three decades of Tim, Ivy
- 15:11Speaker 1: and me. And this sentence is what made this sponsorship
- 15:14Speaker 1: deal a little bit confusing because she's acting as though
- 15:17Speaker 1: her husband thought of the present and paid for it
- 15:19Speaker 1: and organized the experience. But it's clear that this is
- 15:22Speaker 1: a partnership with a brand. As this post went on,
- 15:25Speaker 1: it became clearer that this was a partnership opportunity. So
- 15:28Speaker 1: Georgie continued writing, theater and co do the most gorgeous
- 15:32Speaker 1: pieces like tennis bracelets, necklaces like the ones I always wear,
- 15:36Speaker 1: engagement rings and stacking rings. The quality is so incredible.
- 15:40Speaker 1: If you're looking for something special for your loved ones
- 15:43Speaker 1: or yourself, they will take care of you. Showrooms in
- 15:46Speaker 1: GC or Sydney, they have kindly given me a code Georgie10.
- 15:50Speaker 1: She finished up then by saying, thank you, Theodore, for
- 15:53Speaker 1: an unforgettable 30th present. and then wrote partner with little
- 15:57Speaker 1: asterisks around it. I like that the jewelry stores are
- 16:00Speaker 1: becoming more creative than just giving influencers boyfriends rings to
- 16:04Speaker 1: propose with. It was particularly clever with this ring because
- 16:07Speaker 1: it is a ring that has three diamonds involved. So
- 16:10Speaker 1: she's saying it's a diamond for every decade of my life. Yeah,
- 16:13Speaker 1: I think a lot of men will probably be scared
- 16:15Speaker 1: looking at that. Imagine having to get four diamonds for
- 16:18Speaker 1: someone's 40th birthday. Well, it is clear that this is
- 16:20Speaker 1: a long standing partnership because she explained that she constantly
- 16:23Speaker 1: wears the jewelry. Do you think that this brand gifted
- 16:27Speaker 1: her the ring as a contra deal for exposure? Or
- 16:30Speaker 1: do you think that she was gifted the ring and
- 16:33Speaker 1: also got payment for posting about it? I think it
- 16:36Speaker 1: could have been a contra agreement because the ring would
- 16:38Speaker 1: have been pretty pricey. It reminds me a lot of
- 16:41Speaker 1: the deal that Kayla had seen us did last year
- 16:44Speaker 1: with the water company. Remember, she got all of the
- 16:47Speaker 1: water change. So It didn't have fluoride and all the
- 16:50Speaker 1: nasties in it. Well, because Adelaide is renowned for having
- 16:52Speaker 1: really bad tasting tap water and she wanted to rid
- 16:55Speaker 1: her whole house of it, which was quite funny. And
- 16:57Speaker 1: it turns out, apparently that deal was a contra deal,
- 17:01Speaker 1: which surprised a lot of people because Kayla is so rich.
- 17:05Speaker 1: It's not like she needs to be doing these deals.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And I think that's why there was a lot of
- 17:08Speaker 1: confusion around this campaign because Georgie Stevenson is an incredible businesswoman.
- 17:13Speaker 1: She has had so much success with Naked Harvest. Well,
- 17:16Speaker 1: I think it's worth $ 20 million. That's the latest I heard.
- 17:19Speaker 1: In saying that, perhaps this is just a longstanding partnership.
- 17:22Speaker 1: So she gets signed similar to how Olivia Rogers got
- 17:25Speaker 1: signed by that diamond brand. And she has a year
- 17:28Speaker 1: of working with them. And along the way, they have
- 17:31Speaker 1: worked out, okay, you're going to have this milestone birthday.
- 17:33Speaker 1: We'll give you something for that. I think that's possibly
- 17:36Speaker 1: how it worked or potentially maybe she got a discount
- 17:39Speaker 1: on this ring or Tim got a discount. I don't
- 17:40Speaker 1: think it would have been a discount, but I think
- 17:42Speaker 1: there's a lot of confusion around these influencers who are
- 17:45Speaker 1: worth so much, even bothering to do deals with companies
- 17:48Speaker 1: like this. Whenever I see an influencer get gifted a
- 17:51Speaker 1: really expensive present, I have a bad habit of trying
- 17:53Speaker 1: to Google it and find out how much it costs.
- 17:56Speaker 1: And influencer updates ended up doing the heavy lifting for
- 17:59Speaker 1: all of us because she jumped on the Jewelers website
- 18:02Speaker 1: and she shared a screenshot of showing that the ring
- 18:05Speaker 1: cost $ 3, 560 and that the stones were in fact mozzanite
- 18:10Speaker 1: and not diamonds. And I instantly sent this to you
- 18:13Speaker 1: guys and I said, oh wow, that's a little bit
- 18:15Speaker 1: more reasonable than what I initially thought. However, the jeweler
- 18:19Speaker 1: ended up contacting Influencer Updates and confirmed that Georgie's ring
- 18:24Speaker 1: was in fact made from diamonds. So the message said,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Georgie's ring is a custom made ring with diamonds, not
- 18:30Speaker 1: mozzanite stones. I ended up doing a further stalk online
- 18:34Speaker 1: and they have a lab diamond version of the trilogy ring.
- 18:37Speaker 1: So that was listed at $ 11, 990. So I'm very intrigued
- 18:43Speaker 1: to know how much a real diamond version of that
- 18:46Speaker 1: ring would cost. Probably double the price. Well, Georgie's husband, Tim,
- 18:50Speaker 1: didn't get away with only giving her a sponsored present.
- 18:53Speaker 1: He was very generous. So Georgie shared a reel of
- 18:56Speaker 1: her birthday morning and he organized a huge 30 balloon
- 18:59Speaker 1: and helium balloons around the house. He also organized video
- 19:04Speaker 1: messages from her friends and family and gave her more jewelry.
- 19:08Speaker 1: So we saw her open a Van Cleef bracelet and necklace.
- 19:12Speaker 1: And the bracelet retails for around $ 7, 600 and the necklace
- 19:17Speaker 1: for $ 4, 950. In the videos, Georgie was opening these presents
- 19:20Speaker 1: with her daughter and it made me laugh because every
- 19:23Speaker 1: single present was jewelry, which isn't surprising when the gifts
- 19:26Speaker 1: are over $ 11, 000 like this. Like you don't really have,
- 19:29Speaker 1: you're not really going to throw in a pair of
- 19:31Speaker 1: socks or some little trinkets. You're just going to go
- 19:33Speaker 1: with the jewelry.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 19:35Speaker 1: I noticed a lot of people online, there's been this
- 19:37Speaker 1: discussion that everyone's surprised at, you know, how lavish the
- 19:40Speaker 1: birthday presents were, but I'm not. This is Georgie Stevenson.
- 19:43Speaker 1: She's worth $ 20 million. What is her husband going to
- 19:46Speaker 1: get her? Just a pair of like big W slippers? Yeah,
- 19:48Speaker 1: I get what you're saying because Georgie is one of
- 19:51Speaker 1: those influencers who you follow for aspirational content. She doesn't
- 19:55Speaker 1: hide her wealth. She's happy to share about her successes
- 19:59Speaker 1: and the material form that they take, whether it's a
- 20:01Speaker 1: brand new car or a beautiful house. She's one influencer
- 20:04Speaker 1: that talks about money when a lot of the time
- 20:07Speaker 1: it is a very taboo topic. And she's not afraid
- 20:09Speaker 1: to say that she wants more money in her life.
- 20:11Speaker 1: She wants more cars. She wants more success. And that's
- 20:14Speaker 1: because it buys into the courses that she's selling. So
- 20:17Speaker 1: she's telling people how to manifest wealth, how to build
- 20:20Speaker 1: up your business. Yeah, but I think she believes it too. Yeah,
- 20:23Speaker 1: I think she does. Now she held her birthday dinner
- 20:26Speaker 1: at her house But she did have an event company
- 20:28Speaker 1: there called Sage Events who decorated the whole thing. They
- 20:32Speaker 1: had these beautiful long tables with a pastel pink theme.
- 20:35Speaker 1: And it included these long candles with pink ribbons tied
- 20:38Speaker 1: on them. She had a mini champagne tower. And of course,
- 20:42Speaker 1: she showed off her amazing view of the beach from
- 20:44Speaker 1: her balcony. I also loved this touch. She had a
- 20:47Speaker 1: yellow vintage cake with 1994 across it. And that blew
- 20:50Speaker 1: my mind. How on earth are 1994 babies turning 30? Well...
- 20:56Speaker 1: You go 1994 plus 30?
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't make sense to me. I mean, we're
- 21:01Speaker 1: a 1989 baby, so things are getting more treacherous for us.
- 21:04Speaker 1: This week I literally got a text message from you, Sophie, saying, oh,
- 21:08Speaker 1: my God, I've just had a thought. When Kate's baby, Jack,
- 21:11Speaker 1: is 25, we're going to be nearly 60.
- 21:14Speaker 5: And I was just like, oh, no, actually we will
- 21:16Speaker 5: be 60.
- 21:17Speaker 1: I just said, so? And you're like, oh, but it's just,
- 21:20Speaker 1: you know, it just made me really think. Isn't that
- 21:22Speaker 1: a scary thought though? I hate playing those games. It's
- 21:24Speaker 1: often when I'm in the shower and I start thinking
- 21:26Speaker 1: about life and I do the calculations. Yeah, but it's
- 21:27Speaker 1: like saying in a hundred years you'll be dead.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean?
- 21:29Speaker 1: Well, that's terrifying to me. Yeah, terrifying. I've just got
- 21:32Speaker 1: to live in the now. At least I'll get a
- 21:34Speaker 1: ring with six jewels on it then though. Let's get
- 21:37Speaker 1: into our highs and lows of the week. And you've
- 21:40Speaker 1: got a pretty exciting high. Yes, I have changed my
- 21:42Speaker 1: mind about a hundred times now on our honeymoon location. And-
- 21:47Speaker 1: You guys are probably laughing at me because we should
- 21:49Speaker 1: have just agreed on it at the start. We are
- 21:51Speaker 1: going to go to Bali. What a surprise. Now, you
- 21:54Speaker 1: guys went to Bali for yours and I want it
- 21:55Speaker 1: to be different. Brandon and I were thinking Fiji and
- 21:59Speaker 1: then we thought Port Douglas or Hamilton Island. But then
- 22:01Speaker 1: we looked into how bloody expensive some of those locations are,
- 22:05Speaker 1: particularly at this time of the year and thought, we'd
- 22:08Speaker 1: rather do more renovations on our house. Well, if only
- 22:11Speaker 1: you'd made that decision a bit quicker because we ended
- 22:13Speaker 1: up copying a one-star review. It was all to do
- 22:17Speaker 1: with your bad mouthing of Bali. And can I point
- 22:19Speaker 1: out to the person who left that review, I went
- 22:22Speaker 1: to Bali on my honeymoon. I just get scared of
- 22:24Speaker 1: the Bali belly. And now I'm worried about my- The
- 22:27Speaker 1: Bali belly. Getting Bali belly. And now I'm scared that
- 22:29Speaker 1: because of my comments, maybe I'll get calmer and we'll
- 22:33Speaker 1: both get barley belly over there. I think some of
- 22:35Speaker 1: the listeners can see you're such a positive thinker. Maybe
- 22:37Speaker 1: I need to do some of Georgie Stevenson's manifestation courses
- 22:40Speaker 1: and positive thinking. I think so. Well, what is your
- 22:43Speaker 1: low for the week? My low of the week is
- 22:45Speaker 1: I'm almost in an M. Davies situation. So a couple
- 22:49Speaker 1: of weeks ago, we spoke about how M. Davies was
- 22:52Speaker 1: selling a white couch on Marketplace. And it was covered
- 22:56Speaker 1: in dirty brown marks. I don't know what from. Well,
- 22:59Speaker 1: I left my dog outside the other day. I don't
- 23:02Speaker 1: usually leave him unattended. And he ended up digging a
- 23:04Speaker 1: hole and then coming inside and walking his footprints all
- 23:07Speaker 1: over our couch. Not good. That's the risk you run
- 23:11Speaker 1: having a white couch though. I was just so annoyed
- 23:13Speaker 1: because we always have a blanket covering the majority of
- 23:16Speaker 1: the couch. But of course, the one day that had
- 23:19Speaker 1: slipped off. Now, what are your highs and lows of
- 23:21Speaker 1: the week? Well, actually I'm coming to you with two highs. Oh,
- 23:24Speaker 1: that's positive. So my one high is discovering Olympic diver,
- 23:29Speaker 1: Tom Daley. He's a UK Olympian. I knew who he
- 23:31Speaker 1: was before, but I've discovered his YouTube channel and I
- 23:35Speaker 1: have become obsessed with it. He's got around a million followers.
- 23:38Speaker 1: So obviously a lot of other people enjoy his content.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So if you haven't heard of Tom Daley, he's very
- 23:44Speaker 1: well known for knitting poolside. So the TV community cameras
- 23:49Speaker 1: got a shot of him at the Tokyo games knitting
- 23:51Speaker 1: something and it went viral so he knits these amazing
- 23:54Speaker 1: jumpers I would argue he's better known for just being
- 23:57Speaker 1: hot because isn't he completely ripped and everyone's like oh
- 23:59Speaker 1: my god like who is this guy yeah he's got
- 24:01Speaker 1: a great body and he's also known as being one
- 24:04Speaker 1: of the openly gay Olympians so he's.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Married to a beautiful man who's 20 years older than.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Him called Lance and they've got two children together but
- 24:12Speaker 1: oh my god I watched the cutest video where they
- 24:15Speaker 1: made each other love toast for Valentine's Day. What's love toast? Well,
- 24:20Speaker 1: it's basically toast with a love heart shape in it
- 24:23Speaker 1: where they put like egg in the middle. And anyway,
- 24:25Speaker 1: it was- Oh my God. So you just get like
- 24:26Speaker 1: a stencil and cut out a love heart.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:28Speaker 1: It's nothing that special, but just the interactions with them
- 24:31Speaker 1: were so cute. And he does a lot of what
- 24:33Speaker 1: he eats in a day videos as well. So that's
- 24:35Speaker 1: why I wasn't surprised when you spoke about the muffin
- 24:38Speaker 1: man on Tuesday, because He doesn't eat, like he's always
- 24:42Speaker 1: smashing ice cream and all that kind of stuff. Okay.
- 24:44Speaker 1: And what's your other high? I think it's unfair that
- 24:46Speaker 1: you're doing two highs. Well, my other high is that
- 24:48Speaker 1: we're getting ready to go to our weekly family dinner
- 24:51Speaker 1: and I've got a bit of a prank planned, a
- 24:53Speaker 1: bit of a queen of the pranks. And we can
- 24:55Speaker 1: say this because this is going live tomorrow once the
- 24:58Speaker 1: prank has been completed. Yeah. So last week at family dinner,
- 25:02Speaker 1: for some reason, we got onto the topic of juggling
- 25:05Speaker 1: of all things. And I can juggle juggling. So I
- 25:08Speaker 1: started to demonstrate to everybody how I could juggle with
- 25:11Speaker 1: two apples and an orange. I'm getting the point of
- 25:13Speaker 1: this segment because it's a humble brag for you, but
- 25:15Speaker 1: you're great at juggling. Well, not really because a lot
- 25:17Speaker 1: of people can juggle. We discovered at the table that
- 25:20Speaker 1: my husband, Dale, can juggle and Kate's husband, Rhys, also
- 25:23Speaker 1: said he could juggle. Or thought he could juggle. Yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 1: so after I'd done some juggling, Rhys took the two
- 25:29Speaker 1: apples and the orange and he decided to start showing
- 25:32Speaker 1: his juggling skills. Unfortunately, the orange smashed into one of
- 25:36Speaker 1: mum's bowls. And it was not good. Rhys was extremely embarrassed.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Our dad always tries to make people feel like a
- 25:42Speaker 1: lot better about the situation by telling Rhys that it
- 25:45Speaker 1: was from Turkey. So they'd have to travel all the
- 25:47Speaker 1: way back there to get a new one. But yeah,
- 25:49Speaker 1: so this week I have decided that I'm going to
- 25:51Speaker 1: pull a bit of a prank. So I went to
- 25:53Speaker 1: the central markets over the weekend and I randomly came
- 25:56Speaker 1: across what looks like an egg, but it's actually a
- 25:59Speaker 1: bouncy ball. They're pretty realistic as well because you brought
- 26:02Speaker 1: them out on the weekend. Yeah. And the only reason
- 26:05Speaker 1: I knew that were fake is because they weren't cold.
- 26:08Speaker 1: So I've told you, you have to go put the
- 26:09Speaker 1: bouncy balls in the fridge if it's going to look
- 26:11Speaker 1: totally legit. Well, we've changed the prank up a bit.
- 26:14Speaker 1: So what it's going to be is that I'm going
- 26:16Speaker 1: to start juggling with the eggs and Dale's going to
- 26:18Speaker 1: juggle with the eggs and whatever. And then what we're
- 26:21Speaker 1: going to do is we're going to try and juggle
- 26:23Speaker 1: with them together and then throw one of them towards
- 26:25Speaker 1: Rhys to catch. He's going to think it's going to
- 26:27Speaker 1: smash on him, but it's going to bounce. So I'm
- 26:31Speaker 1: hoping that goes well tonight. Well, particularly because he's operating
- 26:35Speaker 1: on a lack of sleep having a newborn baby. So
- 26:37Speaker 1: I think that's what makes this a bit crueler.
- 26:40Speaker 5: Let's get into our agony sisters segment.
- 26:43Speaker 1: And we've already had some critiques on the name. From Kate.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So Kate has a little list going at home of
- 26:48Speaker 1: all of the things she hasn't liked on the podcast
- 26:51Speaker 1: since she's been away for seven weeks. And this name
- 26:54Speaker 1: is at the top of the list because she thinks she,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I mean, she gets it. It's supposed to be like
- 26:59Speaker 1: agony aunt, which is what, you know, people write into.
- 27:02Speaker 1: But she thinks that people are going to think it's
- 27:04Speaker 1: agonising to listen to this podcast with these agonising sisters. Oh,
- 27:08Speaker 1: I'm glad that you've put that forward so people can
- 27:11Speaker 1: hold on to that. Yeah, please don't put that in
- 27:12Speaker 1: our going section. Well, that's nice that she's keeping a list.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Anyway, so.
- 27:19Speaker 1: A lot of you actually wrote in and saying that
- 27:20Speaker 1: you love the segment. So thank you to those people. Yeah. Now,
- 27:24Speaker 1: a question that we've got today is, one of my
- 27:27Speaker 1: best friends doesn't follow or support my small business. She's
- 27:31Speaker 1: never bought a thing. So when she says follow, I'm
- 27:34Speaker 1: assuming that she means that she doesn't follow it on
- 27:36Speaker 1: social media. That's pretty appalling.
- 27:38Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:39Speaker 1: See, I'm in two minds because I think to be
- 27:42Speaker 1: a supportive friend, you don't necessarily have to have purchased
- 27:45Speaker 1: from one of your friend's small businesses. But I think
- 27:49Speaker 1: that the bare minimum is to show an interest and
- 27:52Speaker 1: to follow them on Instagram and to be supportive and
- 27:55Speaker 1: ask them about how they're going? I think it depends
- 27:58Speaker 1: what your friend is selling, because if it's something really
- 28:01Speaker 1: cheap that you can just quickly buy something from them,
- 28:04Speaker 1: you should show your support in that way. But if
- 28:06Speaker 1: it's something that maybe it's something you don't particularly, you're
- 28:10Speaker 1: not interested in or it's expensive. If it's the only
- 28:13Speaker 1: sale that's come through from your friend. Maybe you're not
- 28:16Speaker 1: in a financial position to support your friend by purchasing something.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I don't know. As you said, you should follow them
- 28:22Speaker 1: at the very minimum on Instagram. It also depends if
- 28:26Speaker 1: this is your friend's day job or if it's just
- 28:30Speaker 1: a hobby. Because if they're actually relying on this business
- 28:33Speaker 1: to stay afloat, it might be nice to just buy
- 28:35Speaker 1: something small. But that being said, if it's a hobby,
- 28:38Speaker 1: just encourage them by being supportive and being there for
- 28:41Speaker 1: them and asking them about it. I think that that's
- 28:43Speaker 1: all they need to do. Yeah, if I'm thinking about it,
- 28:46Speaker 1: like a lot of our friend's they're starting businesses and
- 28:49Speaker 1: they're doing lots of stuff. And because I'm a photographer
- 28:51Speaker 1: and a videographer, often that's how I will support my
- 28:54Speaker 1: friend's business. Like I'll offer to take photos or whatever
- 28:58Speaker 1: it may be. And I think there's always something that
- 29:00Speaker 1: you can do to show your support in that way.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So you're very valid to feel a bit hurt if
- 29:06Speaker 1: your friend hasn't even at least followed your business Instagram page.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I would love to know what other small business owners think.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Send us in your thoughts. But that is all we
- 29:14Speaker 1: have time for today. Thank you so much for joining
- 29:16Speaker 1: us for this episode. If you have enjoyed it, could
