- 2:01global revival. Father, bring about this turning
- 2:06back to our first love. Lord, I pray that you will be
- 2:14well pleased with the reading of your texts.
- 2:16Let many come into the fold today, for today is the day of
- 2:20salvation. God, heal our broken bodies.
- 2:24God, restore marriages. Lord, regrow limbs today.
- 2:29Father God, I pray that you will cure cancer.
- 2:35God, I pray that you will turn back Alzheimer's and dementia.
- 2:40God, I pray in the name of Jesus that you will cure heart
- 2:44disease. God, I pray for those that are
- 2:46on a donor's list, God to receive a call today that they
- 2:52have got the right match. Father, I pray in the name of
- 2:57Jesus that you will continue to do mighty things all amongst us.
- 3:03Lord, I pray that there will be many who see you moving mightily
- 3:08today. God Almighty, you're the same.
- 3:11God, we love you. Father, we attach ourselves to
- 3:16you. We pray for the peace of
- 3:19Jerusalem. God, we pray for all of your
- 3:22prophecies to come to fruition. God, we pray that we could be
- 3:27your hands and feet, that we could come and to know you and
- 3:30to learn from you. God Almighty, our everything, we
- 3:34love you. King Jesus, you are holy and
- 3:38worthy and lovely. God Almighty, bring about your
- 3:42glory upon this camp. God, I pray you'll bind the
- 3:48enemy from off of this time. Bind the enemy from off of our
- 3:53lives and families. God, I pray that you'll cast him
- 3:57into the judgment that you have a waiting for him.
- 4:01Chains of utter darkness and gloom, the weeping of gnashing
- 4:06of teeth. God, where the worm never dies.
- 4:09Lord, I pray, Lord, that you will continue to raise up men
- 4:16and women unto yourself who are bold in their witness.
- 4:21God who charged the hill, Lord, who ascend to new heights.
- 4:27Father, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ you will help us to
- 4:32love you more, to love our neighbors as ourselves.
- 4:37God, I pray that your word will never return void and God, you
- 4:42will not be mocked. It's all about you, King Jesus.
- 4:49I decrease as you increase. Lord, teach us and guide us.
- 4:57Holy Spirit, fill us in. Jesus Christ, holy and mighty
- 5:03and powerful. An awesome name, I pray, Amen.
- 5:11Let's start in verse one. Finally, brothers, pray for us
- 5:19that the word of the Lord may have free course and be
- 5:23glorified even as it is with you.
- 5:28So Paul is requesting prayer and he understood the necessity of
- 5:33prayer. And Billy Graham, at the end of
- 5:36his life, he said if he would have known how short life was,
- 5:40he would have prayed more. If we even understood the Daniel
- 5:4410 concept of prayer, where you have the archangels fighting and
- 5:54trying to make it to Daniel, if you even had an inkling, just a
- 6:00sliver of what your prayers did in the spiritual realm, you
- 6:05would pray a whole lot more. St. far be it from us to be
- 6:11prayerless. We need to increase our prayer
- 6:15life. Friends, do not be deceived.
- 6:20Do not be tricked. Do not squander your
- 6:24inheritance. Friends, you have the indwelling
- 6:27of the Holy Spirit inside of you.
- 6:30Far be it from us to withhold the conversation with God that
- 6:35He so desires. And Paul here understood that.
- 6:41And he said pray for us. He knew the success of his
- 6:46ministry was dependent upon the prayers of the Saints.
- 6:50Friends, how many of us do not pray for our pastors and
- 6:54leaders? We need to be more prayerful
- 7:03today than we were yesterday, and let the Word of God go out
- 7:10freely. Freely you have received, and so
- 7:14freely you give. Let the Word of God run its race
- 7:17all over the globe, every continent, every people group,
- 7:22every language, every tongue, every skin color, friends, every
- 7:29single man, woman and child. Let the Word of God go out to
- 7:34them so that they have to make a decision.
- 7:40And Paul was glorified. Paul gloried in this church at
- 7:49Thessalonica because they were rooted and grounded and
- 7:52established in the Word of God and in their prayer life too.
- 8:00And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked
- 8:08men, for all men have not faith. So here Paul shows us a very
- 8:19important spiritual application for our Christian walk friends,
- 8:28and it is that you cannot reason with unreasonable people.
- 8:34Never forget that they are unreasonable by definition.
- 8:40And here he is going to tell us the same principle that we will
- 8:46learn in Titus as to warn a divisive person once and then
- 8:50warn them again and then after that have nothing to do with
- 8:54them. For you can be sure that they
- 8:56are warped and self condemned. And Paul here saying that not
- 9:00every person has the faith that we possess.
- 9:05And you need to understand that the road to destruction is wide,
- 9:10and many choose that way, and the path to eternal life is
- 9:15straight and it is narrow, and only a few find it three.
- 9:23But the Lord is faithful who shall establish you and keep you
- 9:31from evil. That is the Lord's promise to
- 9:34you. Underline it and highlight it.
- 9:38Mark it in the margins of your Bible journal about it, that the
- 9:43Lord God Almighty will keep you even when you are sifted.
- 9:49The devil cannot snatch you out of his hands, and the sifting
- 9:54will produce the character and the perseverance, friends, that
- 9:59God is after for all of eternity, and he will establish
- 10:04you, and he will keep you from the evil. 1 And the and the
- 10:09enemy is very limited on what he can do to a believer, and God
- 10:21has to allow it like he did for Job, and he did not allow Job to
- 10:28die, and he restored Job twice as much.
- 10:32And you need to understand that God's ways are not our ways and
- 10:36His thoughts are not our thoughts.
- 10:38They are much higher than ours, as the clouds are above the
- 10:41earth. So God's thoughts are much
- 10:44higher than ours. Four, And we have confidence in
- 10:53the Lord touching you that you both do and will do the things
- 10:59which we command you. So he's saying we know that the
- 11:04things that we have taught you, we know that you're going to do
- 11:07it. We know that you are going to
- 11:10walk in the manner that is according.
- 11:13And this is like a good father who is speaking truth and a good
- 11:19father who is encouraging their kids.
- 11:22And he's speaking life over them.
- 11:24And he's given them their identity.
- 11:27He's given them the admonition to do the things that they've
- 11:33been taught. And he's saying, I know that
- 11:35you're going to do them. And what a lesson for us,
- 11:38especially us as parents or in leadership positions.
- 11:45The things that you speak over people will be the very things
- 11:49that they will do. And if you tell a person that
- 11:53they are a nobody, then they will act like a nobody.
- 11:57And it is very important to speak life over a person.
- 12:02Do not speak death over a person.
- 12:05Speak life. There is power in the tongue,
- 12:08friends five, and the Lord direct your hearts into the love
- 12:15of God and into the patient waiting for Christ.
- 12:20That is what we need. We need to finish this race
- 12:24well, friends. It's not enough to start the
- 12:27race. We must finish well.
- 12:30And it is only by the empowerment of the Spirit of God
- 12:33that will allow us to wait well and to finish this race well.
- 12:37Friends, the Lord will direct us.
- 12:41We wake up every day. We acknowledge the Lord and He
- 12:45directs our steps. Many are the plans of a man's
- 12:48heart, but the Lord directs His steps.
- 12:51Friends, we wait patiently. We do not outpace God.
- 12:57We do not run ahead, We do not fall behind.
- 13:01We do not go out of formation. We wait patiently, knowing that
- 13:08He is going to bring every single prophecy, every single
- 13:15jot and title that is contained in His Word to fruition.
- 13:20Friends 6 Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our
- 13:30Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every
- 13:39brother that walks disorderly, and not after the tradition
- 13:47which he received of us. So Paul's going to tell us how
- 13:53we should work while we are awaiting Christ's return, and
- 14:00he's going to show us how we do not need to be idle, busy
- 14:03bodies, gossipers. We do not need to have this
- 14:09chatter and murmurings, friends that got the children in the
- 14:15wilderness into trouble, the generation that did not get to
- 14:18see the promised land because of all their murmurings.
- 14:23And that is a great warning to all of us who call ourselves
- 14:31believers. And you know that a critical
- 14:35spirit is the sure sign of a backslidden Christian.
- 14:39We do not need to backslide and we do not need to outpace and we
- 14:44do not need to fall out of formation.
- 14:46Friends do not become disorderly.
- 14:50And this is a perpetual walking. This is not just a one time.
- 14:55And then you immediately feel conviction.
- 14:58This is not just the wrestling between the flesh and the
- 15:02spirit. This is someone who calls
- 15:05himself a brother, but their life looks nothing like a it
- 15:10looks no different than the rest of the world.
- 15:13And Paul here is telling us, and he's telling the church here at
- 15:17Thessalonica to get away from such people. 7 for yourselves,
- 15:26know how you ought to follow us. For we behaved not ourselves
- 15:34disorderly among you. So Paul said we were an example
- 15:38to you. We showed you how you should
- 15:41walk in accordance with the things that are taught to you
- 15:46from God by us. 8 Neither did we eat any man's bread, for not for
- 15:57wrought with labor and travail night and day, that we might not
- 16:02be chargeable to any of you. Paul did not want to be a burden
- 16:06unto this church here at Thessalonica.
- 16:09He said. You remember how I was a tent
- 16:12maker. You remember how I worked day
- 16:15and night for my own sustenance. I did not come with my hands
- 16:20outstretched asking for a handout.
- 16:29I did not ask to be supported by you, even though that is my
- 16:34right. Paul chose to not be a burden to
- 16:38this church, and he's saying, look at how you saw me working,
- 16:44and this is how you ought to be. 9 Not because we have not power,
- 16:53but to make ourselves an example to you to follow us.
- 16:58Paul saying we have the power to ask for your support, but we
- 17:04wanted to be an example to you. And we know that those who
- 17:09preach the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ deserve to be
- 17:13supported by the congregation. That is not in the question.
- 17:17Paul never questioned that authority.
- 17:21He chose to be the example for them to make sure they
- 17:25understood the need to put their hand to the plow and to be found
- 17:30out in the harvest, and to not be a busy body who just wanted
- 17:36to live of a carefree life and to do whatever they wanted to do
- 17:41while they waited upon the Lord. And it was to their dismay, and
- 17:48Paul here wanted to correct this wrong thinking about what the
- 17:54Christian life should look like. 10 For even when we were with
- 18:02you, this we commanded you that if any would not work, neither
- 18:08should he eat. Now Paul is not talking about
- 18:12those who are not able to work. We know that we are to take care
- 18:18of the widows and orphans in their time of distress.
- 18:22We know that Paul did take collections up so it was not as
- 18:28if Paul was just anti giving and supporting.
- 18:34And we know that we are to take care of those who cannot take
- 18:39care of themselves that are within the body of Christ.
- 18:43That is clear. But Paul is saying if you are
- 18:47able, then you must go out and work to help support yourself
- 18:53and not only to support yourself, but to have enough to
- 18:57give. And that is what God Almighty
- 19:02wants us to be doing. We must go out and work for the
- 19:07things that we have. And it is God who supernaturally
- 19:12multiplies the little that is in your hand.
- 19:15Never forget that 11 For we hear that there are some which walk
- 19:23among you, disorderly, working not at all, but our busy bodies.
- 19:31These are the ones who think that the Christian walk is all
- 19:35about sitting in a circle singing kumbaya in a waiting for
- 19:40Christ's return. And God has called us into the
- 19:44harvest. God has called us to put our
- 19:48hand to the plow. Friends, God has put his burden
- 19:53and his yoke upon us. And it is light and it is easy,
- 19:57but it is work nonetheless. 12 Now them that are such we
- 20:07command and exhort. By our Lord Jesus Christ that
- 20:16with quietness they work and eat their own bread.
- 20:23So here Paul is saying if you will not work you do not deserve
- 20:28to be fed and to get a handout. If you are able to work, then
- 20:32you must work, and do not come asking for a handout if you are
- 20:37not willing to go to work. 13 But you, brothers, be not weary
- 20:46in well doing. It is doing, friends.
- 20:50You see it there. It is not just well waiting, it
- 20:54is well doing. Do not grow weary in doing good,
- 21:00for in a due time you will see the harvest, you will see the
- 21:06fruit, friends. And that is what God has called
- 21:10us to do. And we would air grievously by
- 21:17sitting on our blessed assurance.
- 21:20God has called us into a much higher plane, a much deeper
- 21:31understanding of who He is. God desires for us to be his
- 21:39hands and feet, to wash the feet of the disciples, to be the one
- 21:44who runs in to the burning building, to be the one who
- 21:49protects innocent lives. Friends 14 And if any man obeys
- 21:58not our word by this epistle, note that man have no company
- 22:05with him, that he may be ashamed.
- 22:08So that is church discipline. Friends, that is what it looks
- 22:13like to excommunicate someone from the fellowship of the body
- 22:20of Christ. And we saw that back in First
- 22:24Corinthians chapter 5. And then Paul's going to tell us
- 22:27what to do when that person is repentant.
- 22:32We are not to leave them out of the fellowship. 15 Yet count him
- 22:39not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
- 22:44So that is the thing. Somebody can be a true believer
- 22:47in the Lord Jesus Christ, a brother, but their witness is
- 22:51tarnished. 16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace
- 23:01always. By all means the Lord be with
- 23:06you all. So Paul here is showing them
- 23:10that there is no peace apart from the peace of God, and God
- 23:14has to give you this peace. Pray to the Lord God and ask him
- 23:19to remove discontentment from you.
- 23:22Friends, ask the Lord to remove materialism from you.
- 23:29Ask the Lord to remove this critical spirit that has come
- 23:34in, and God can give you this perfect peace that will sustain
- 23:40and hold you and to keep you until his blessed return. 17 The
- 23:48salutation of Paul with my own hand, which is the token in
- 23:52every epistle, so I right will end on. 18 The grace of our Lord
- 23:59Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
- 24:03Paul put his stamp at the end of the letter.
- 24:07Look at what large letters he writes with, and he tells you
- 24:12that the Lord Jesus Christ will give you grace and peace and
- 24:17mercy and joy when you are in a right relationship with him.
- 24:22I pray that you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 24:25Word. I know I sure have.
- 24:38Praying for every single one of you.
- 24:49I love you. So does God, so does our Lord.
- 24:56May the Holy Spirit and dwell you today and fill you today and
- 25:01give you the mind of Christ. Stay prayed up today.
- 25:04Tell somebody about what God has done for you.
- 25:14We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 25:16God bless you.
