Transcript
- 0:07What's up everyone? Welcome to another episode of
- 0:09Rock for Initiative. My name is Phil and I am your
- 0:12host. Today we get to talk to Chris
- 0:14Paul from Millington, everybody's favorite brass emo
- 0:18snob. And I'm really excited for this
- 0:22episode because we get to talk Dungeons and Dragons, which is
- 0:24something that we rarely get to do for a podcast that is named
- 0:30after Dungeons and Dragons. Chris is the trombonist from
- 0:35Millington, super awesome guy. We talk about Dungeons and
- 0:39Dragons, talk about DM ING, we talk about anime.
- 0:44We get into fantasy novels like a lots of fun nerdy stuff.
- 0:51Millington has a lot going on. This Saturday, October 3rd they
- 0:55are playing with Ice 9 Kills at the Silver Stream Con in
- 0:59Worcester, MA. They are also going on tour this
- 1:03October, November up into Chicago in Ohio and then up and
- 1:08down the East Coast. So if they are coming anywhere
- 1:11near you I would 100% recommend going out to see them.
- 1:15They'll also be at work tour in Orlando, which I will hopefully
- 1:18also be at and I will I guarantee I will be at the
- 1:22Millington set. So make sure you check them out.
- 1:25Their new single, I Won't Surrender came out like a month
- 1:29and a half ago or so. I don't, I don't remember, but
- 1:31it's it's really good. Very different tone than than
- 1:35what you may be used to from Millington.
- 1:37They just released some music video for it too, which is
- 1:39really cool. They shot at Nick's house, I
- 1:42think. I don't know.
- 1:43Very cool band. Rockford Initiative is part of
- 1:47Never a Phase Network. Never a Phase Network, of
- 1:50course, is your place for music, for articles about your favorite
- 1:56artists, and for finding other podcasts.
- 1:59We have the The Never Phase Podcast, Imperfect Dad's
- 2:05Podcast, the Scott Mailman Podcast, Certified Fangirls
- 2:09Track Marks, and the Waste of Time podcast.
- 2:11We've just got back from a weekend of doing press for Fort
- 2:16Port Festival, so make sure you check all those guys out.
- 2:19But yeah, let's go to the interview.
- 2:21Enjoy. I am happy to have Chris from
- 2:36Millington with us. How are you doing, Chris?
- 2:39I'm good, Phil. How are you doing?
- 2:41Can I call? You Phil.
- 2:42You can't call me Phil. OK, Is that just a Millington
- 2:45thingy? Is just.
- 2:49I guess it's kind of become a Millington thing, but here we
- 2:52are it. Feels nice.
- 2:53It feels, it feels good. I was good when I got home from
- 2:56Warped Tour. I I played the interview for my
- 2:58wife and she's like, these guys are like your best friends.
- 3:00They're calling you Phil. I was like, well, I introduced
- 3:03myself as Phil. But yeah, I mean, yes, they are
- 3:06my best friends. And that is very true.
- 3:07Right, That's right. That was a fun time.
- 3:10That was a good time meeting you at DC Warped.
- 3:11Yeah, that was a good Yeah, that was a really, it was a really
- 3:13hot day. That was really hot, but.
- 3:16It was very hot that interview. That area where they had us
- 3:20doing interviews was very noisy. You guys, I, I got to interview
- 3:25some really cool bands, but I, and I'm not just blowing smoke.
- 3:28You guys were my favorite band interview.
- 3:29The Dolly Rots were also fabulous people.
- 3:32But Millington, I mean, come on. Everyone's favorite Scott band,
- 3:37I hope. Everyone's favorite Scott band?
- 3:39Maybe after? A little bit, but you.
- 3:42Know, yeah, I mean, the suburban legends are up there.
- 3:46Yeah. So I'm excited to talk to you
- 3:52about D and DI. Know you got some other stuff
- 3:54that you said, but D&D is obviously the name of the
- 3:59podcast. Is Rock for Initiative, Yes.
- 4:02Yes, it is. I have not had a chance to have
- 4:04anyone on that. Like D&D is the thing that we
- 4:07were talking about, though, like Mike from, from Summer Brews.
- 4:10We talked a little bit about it, but it was mostly wrestling.
- 4:13But you're, you're the first, like straight to D&D person.
- 4:18So tell me about your entry point to the Dungeons and
- 4:23Dragons. Sure, definitely.
- 4:27I guess like I'm, I'm, I would consider myself more of like a,
- 4:31a baby in a sense of like my, how long I've been playing.
- 4:35But I'm, I mean, I started like when 5th edition came out.
- 4:37So what was that like over 10 years ago or around 10 years
- 4:40ago, something like that? Which is really I'm in utero
- 4:44because I probably started like four or five years ago as my
- 4:48entry point. I see.
- 4:49Yeah, Yeah. So I think yeah, probably about
- 4:51yeah, summer, maybe about 10:00-ish years ago is when I
- 4:55started. So I was like in, you know, in
- 4:56college and stuff and like, I, yeah, it just never came across
- 5:02my radar. Well, I knew about it before
- 5:04then and stuff. But like, you know, oh, that's
- 5:05like, you know, growing up in the 2000s stuff that's like the
- 5:09nerdy stuff. You know, I can, if I can swear
- 5:12that's like the nerdy shit, you know, like, oh, the real nerds
- 5:16do that. But like, you know, so you
- 5:19definitely don't don't do that. Oh, like, but, you know, so like
- 5:23I knew about it tangentially and stuff, but never had like
- 5:26friends back, you know, when I was growing up that like really
- 5:29played until I got to college and then just kind of started
- 5:32hearing more about and kind of saw some actual play.
- 5:35Really like kind of first got me and I was like, Oh, this looks
- 5:41really fun. Just like I, I, I would do this.
- 5:44This doesn't look nearly as complicated or, you know, as I
- 5:47thought and stuff. And like, you can do all these
- 5:49things. So, you know, I just found a
- 5:52friend in, in music school that also played D&D and had been
- 5:56playing for, you know, and since like third edition or so.
- 5:58And we started a group and then I've just been playing.
- 6:04Fantastic. I I I like the barrier to entry
- 6:07is much lower than people think and the barrier to entry really
- 6:12is. Can you find someone to DM for
- 6:13you and. Sometimes that is a very or it
- 6:17feels like a very high bar of entry, that's for sure.
- 6:22I I would no because I am finding myself being the forever
- 6:26DM these days. For for, yeah.
- 6:29But I've been fighting really hard against.
- 6:34It's hard to break free. So.
- 6:36So you have been D Ming. Are you?
- 6:38Are you D Ming a game right now? I am not D Ming a game right
- 6:41now. I I I did DM for like a a good
- 6:44while again, like in college and stuff, you know, just to get
- 6:49people actually playing. But I kind of sort of recently
- 6:53got back into playing a lot more and and D Ming too.
- 6:56So I've, I've really just been doing like a lot of one shots
- 6:59just for like my friends just to kind of show that if they're
- 7:02especially if they're interested in it, but like never again,
- 7:04like that barrier to entry and being like, it's actually not
- 7:06that bad. Like, you know, it's very
- 7:09approachable. You just kind of have to get
- 7:11your feet wet a little bit. So yeah, I mostly do one shots.
- 7:14I would say I'm a big fan of DMS Guild because they've just got a
- 7:19lot of really nice, really well written one shot.
- 7:22So you can just like, yeah, of course I'll throw you 2 bucks
- 7:24and buy this like thing that I'm going to have like a great time
- 7:27out, a great night out with with the friends with some beers and
- 7:30stuff, you know, like it's great so.
- 7:33Yeah, yeah, yeah. The the DND creator community
- 7:36is, is really amazing. Like there's so much out there
- 7:41that is DND that is accessible and and easy to easy to get
- 7:48into. Yeah, for real.
- 7:50Like it It's it really is great. I might I might have like a
- 7:53couple of these. Where are they?
- 7:54But right over here, I think. Do I have any of these?
- 7:58Yeah, I just printed them out. So like this one.
- 8:01But I just want to give a make sure I give a shout out to the
- 8:03ones that I really like. Like this this one was really
- 8:06great. Aura Abel's cross.
- 8:08This is just like a level 2 adventure.
- 8:10This is really nice. There's another one I'm trying
- 8:15to make sure I give credit to the, the awesome people that
- 8:18made this, the Wild cheap Chase. It's like a level 5 adventure.
- 8:21It's a little bit more wacky in a sense.
- 8:24And then there was one more and I really like, I don't, I don't
- 8:27know if I printed that one out, but it's called haunting it or
- 8:31No, it's just called the haunting.
- 8:32It's kind of like a haunted house thing.
- 8:34So I like to run that around Halloween time.
- 8:36But it's like, you know, it's a pretty good one.
- 8:39So especially really new players that don't know a lot, you know,
- 8:43or like are into like the spooky or vibes, but don't know a lot.
- 8:47I I forget the name of the author of the the authors that
- 8:50made that one, but that's a great one too.
- 8:52That's that's a. Little long I'll look for them
- 8:54I'll find them and link them in the in the in the notes for the
- 8:58show so people can find them because.
- 8:59Those are, yeah, Because those are, like you said, the D&D
- 9:02community that's out there is home, you know, making home brew
- 9:05settings and campaigns and one shots is is so cool.
- 9:08It's such a cool thing. Right.
- 9:10Are you, you mentioned actual play.
- 9:13So is that like Critical Role that really got you in or?
- 9:17Yeah, that's the one. Critical Role was, was was the
- 9:20first one, you know, just back then, especially like 10 years
- 9:23ago or whatever, you know, they just started.
- 9:25So it's like you just start hearing like, Oh yeah, there's
- 9:28like guys playing, you know, these, these, this group of
- 9:31voice actors playing the DND on Twitch.
- 9:34And it's like, oh, OK, yeah, I guess I'll check that out.
- 9:36Sure. Well, I, I like anime as well.
- 9:38So like, I, I recognize like, like Lee O'Brien, like Sam and
- 9:42Sam Regal or Bailey Travis, like, you know, from like the
- 9:46dubbing, especially growing up in the 2000s, you know, all the
- 9:48English dubs, it's like, Oh yeah, I recognize that voice.
- 9:51You know, you kind of start picking those out.
- 9:53So I was like, yeah, I'll check it out.
- 9:54And just immediately hooked like episode 1 hooked ready to go.
- 9:59So good, yeah, those early campaigns especially, but even,
- 10:03I mean, I don't know, I'm a I'm a campaign 3 apologist.
- 10:06Like I think campaign 3 is really, really good.
- 10:09I enjoyed. Campaign three.
- 10:11No, they're all great. I mean, you know, I love all of
- 10:14their campaigns. They're they're, they're just
- 10:16great. I have not stayed up with
- 10:19Campaign 4, even though I love Brennan Lee Mulligan.
- 10:25It's just a lot. It's a lot of content.
- 10:29It really weak it. Really is yeah no, I I also
- 10:33haven't stayed up to date but no Brent Brendan is awesome as Adm
- 10:37too. Like what a talent.
- 10:39It's nice to see Matt as a player too.
- 10:41Right, getting to to move out from behind the the DM screen
- 10:48are you so when you get to be a player, do you have like a class
- 10:52of choice or what? What's your favorite go to type
- 10:55of character to make? Well, that's a good question.
- 11:00I have a couple of characters, but I'd say the primary one that
- 11:03I played, I, I normally, I play like a tiefling Paladin is
- 11:05usually the guy that I, I have, I kind of built his back story
- 11:08up for a while, you know, so like an older character of mine.
- 11:12I just really like paladins. I like, like being in a melee
- 11:15and stuff like, but I, I don't like to just just hit things.
- 11:18I like to have a little bit of extra stuff you can do.
- 11:20So I, that class really speaks to me and I, I just like the the
- 11:24devil version of that, I guess Tiefling, you know, especially.
- 11:28Yeah, just. Kind of playing against the
- 11:30type, I guess in, in a sense at least you know, in terms of.
- 11:32It's a little at odds, like yeah, it's like a yeah, yeah
- 11:37and, and just. Very cool.
- 11:39Yeah. Just like interpreting like the
- 11:40oaths in like a different kind of way.
- 11:42You know, it's, you know, it doesn't always have to be like
- 11:44the straight laced holy warrior kind of thing.
- 11:47You know, it can kind of get a little creative with that if you
- 11:49want, so let's try to. So does this character have like
- 11:52a really cool back story for his oath, his or her oaths, their
- 11:56oaths? Yeah, it depends on the setting,
- 11:59you know, that the whatever I play and I try to, you know, do
- 12:03that. Obviously it's a that's part of
- 12:06the things that I really like about DND is like it's, you
- 12:08know, maybe you feel the same. It's like it's a collaboration
- 12:11between like all these different people, you know, so like it,
- 12:14it's easy, especially as like Adm maybe to to feel like you
- 12:17want to have control over all, all the world and everything
- 12:19like that. And then, you know, easy for the
- 12:21player to be like what I this is my character, right?
- 12:23So like this is my back story, right.
- 12:25So I feel like when, when like when it really shines is when
- 12:30you collaborate in that kind of way of like, hey, I want this, I
- 12:33want this. How how does that work and with
- 12:36your thing and how did how would that fit in?
- 12:39And does it fit in and, you know, trying to bend, bend and
- 12:44you know, yeah, I guess bend things to fit certain aspects of
- 12:49what player wants to do. But also, you know, consider how
- 12:55it would fit in the setting that the the M is trying to tell as
- 12:59well. Right.
- 13:01I think like I really enjoy being able to pull in a
- 13:05character's back story at like an an opportune time and find
- 13:11ways to weave that into whatever narrative I'm trying to to to go
- 13:16through it as Adm. It's probably my favorite part
- 13:19of DM ING like I can. I'm, I'm only so creative and,
- 13:26and I'm probably way less than a lot of people who DM.
- 13:29Like I'm running a campaign right now with some friends that
- 13:34this is like our 4th or 5th campaign together.
- 13:36We'll do like one through 20 and it takes like 2 years to to get
- 13:41through. And the one that I just started
- 13:45with them is this like dungeon crawler Carl type narrative.
- 13:52The, the Boren corporation is actually the, the twilight
- 13:56court. It's all like Faye themed and
- 13:59stuff but I like. That that's really cool that a
- 14:03lot that's a good it's. Been a lot of fun.
- 14:05We just finished floor one. They just beat, they just
- 14:10finished the first bus. So now I'm like, how do I do
- 14:12sponsors and right, like are there interviews between floors?
- 14:17Now I got to think of all this stuff and how to how to connect
- 14:20it all. But also like I can pull in
- 14:23their backstories and they're like, how are things connected?
- 14:27How are they connected to the outside world?
- 14:29And like what are the like really emotional points that we
- 14:33can hit, which has lost a little bit on this group.
- 14:38Sorry if they're listening. They're not the like biggest
- 14:41role players. It's like.
- 14:44Little more murder hobo kind of thing, right?
- 14:47Maybe. I mean, we all, everyone has
- 14:49those groups, right? Sometimes.
- 14:52They're definitely chaotic neutral towards chaotic evil.
- 15:00I like that. That's fun.
- 15:01If I had to give them an alignment, I was.
- 15:05Going to say so I take it that means you're the also the
- 15:07forever DM? You're we're I'm talking maybe
- 15:10to someone that gets it. I have DM DA couple of times
- 15:14I've been in this particular group.
- 15:16We we have been pretty good about sharing DM duties like we
- 15:21and then like, like if I'm busy on a Friday night, someone else
- 15:25will step in and run a one shot in within my world sort of for
- 15:30better or worse. Sometimes they give out really
- 15:33like cool loot and I come back and I'm like, oh wow, let me add
- 15:36some points to yeah, right. Let me add a lot more HP to this
- 15:42monster. Get that?
- 15:46I get that. So you started with 5E?
- 15:52Have you played any of the new like 2024 stuff at all?
- 15:58Not too much, still mostly sticking with 5E that that tends
- 16:02to be what I, I gravitate towards, I guess in terms of
- 16:05other players as well too. But I mean, I, I think there's
- 16:08some really cool stuff that 5.5 is, you know, or 2024 or
- 16:11whatever. Whatever they call it now.
- 16:14That, that, that that does like, I think there's some really nice
- 16:16balancing. I've heard both interchangeably,
- 16:19like 5.5 or 2024. Yeah, like I know there's.
- 16:24A lot of yeah. Next campaign we're doing right
- 16:27now is we're we're trying 5.5 and I'm playing with with guys
- 16:31who have been playing since like second edition.
- 16:33Like some of these guys have been playing since they were
- 16:35like 9 or 10 with their parents. And I'm I'm the newbie over here
- 16:39who knows 5E and 5.5 and that's it.
- 16:44And they're and how did, how does it feel so far?
- 16:47How are you liking it? It's good.
- 16:50The one like homebrew role that I pulled in was like, we will
- 16:54not use new counterspell. Like I want old counterspell
- 16:57'cause it's just not as fun in my opinion.
- 17:00Yeah, interesting. But but that's the beauty of
- 17:02playing a a tabletop game like this is you can make those kinds
- 17:05of rules for your table. Yeah, no, I agree with that.
- 17:08I think that's like when I'm at least maybe speaking on just
- 17:11myself and I maybe for other DMS and just players and stuff.
- 17:14I really like, like that freedom, I guess.
- 17:17I know like, because I, you know, I've played with other
- 17:19people that are, you know, I've been playing since like the
- 17:21third edition or second. You know, they like the little
- 17:23bit, especially 3rd edition of like Pathfinder, which I played,
- 17:26you know, some Pathfinder too. But they like like, I just
- 17:29really like how clear it is and like this is what that does and
- 17:34these are the rules for this thing and it's like this long
- 17:37for grappling and you know, that's a good joke right there.
- 17:39Get get that someone go look at the grapple rules from 3.5.
- 17:42It's like old page or something like that.
- 17:46It's like crazy. But like, I like the
- 17:48flexibility, I guess of like 5th and 5.5 of, you know, it more
- 17:54leads into that older style D and DI guess like more like AD,
- 17:59like first edition AD and D or like the Prout box stuff where
- 18:02it's just like, I don't know what the rules are.
- 18:05Yeah, that sounds great. Do it like, you know, just like
- 18:08me. Yeah, rule of cool kind of stuff
- 18:10I guess. Is is really.
- 18:12That's my personal philosophy is very rule of cool.
- 18:14Like if you if, if you can convince me that it's like
- 18:18possible and it's cool, then yeah, you can absolutely do it.
- 18:22Why not? Yeah.
- 18:23Or roll for it. Let's see what happens.
- 18:26Like figure out some way to make it a roll.
- 18:30OK, let's see what the dice tell you, if it really works or if it
- 18:34doesn't. So yeah, the flexibility of it.
- 18:39I wish I was better. One thing that I think I, I, I
- 18:41could, I could work on as Adm is, is my flexibility.
- 18:45Because I do feel like sometimes I'm like, yeah, go ahead and
- 18:47roll for it. But I know no matter what they
- 18:49roll like nothing is going to change because I don't have
- 18:53anything else prepared. Yeah, yeah, yeah, well, I mean
- 18:58it just you just kind of get better at it, I guess.
- 19:00Just like anything, right, Like the more you right.
- 19:03I mean, like anytime you're starting out something you're
- 19:05like it's got to be in this thing because it's what I know,
- 19:07but I don't know, maybe maybe that's just like a me thing and
- 19:11and you know, it's person to person just like I find it very
- 19:14easy to let that go and and be like, OK, well, I guess I'll
- 19:18make something up right now. Yeah, like quickly add this hit
- 19:23points here or like, OK, one more goblin or whatever to this
- 19:27encounter or two more just to make it balanced or something.
- 19:30I don't know, you know, and they'll never know.
- 19:32Usually they never. Right.
- 19:35If you're good, they'll never know.
- 19:36I for me, I'm like, yeah, it definitely let me Google a name
- 19:42for this NPC that you're going in a start block.
- 19:45That one cannot do it. Yeah, I'm very bad at names.
- 19:53I'm bad at names. Unless I have a random name
- 19:55generator or something in front of me.
- 19:59I'm I'm. I'm like yes, P tier Griffin.
- 20:05Tier P tier, that's good, I like that one.
- 20:11So what? Characters do you have then
- 20:13aside from because you you said you DM but I want to know what
- 20:16character else if you play. So most recently, I played a
- 20:19character named Greg who started as A and people who have
- 20:26listened to every episode, will may may remember this.
- 20:29I don't know it. It doesn't really matter.
- 20:31You get you get to listen again, guys, or skip whatever.
- 20:35I have this character named Grug that was in the last campaign we
- 20:38played. I he started as a goblin and his
- 20:42whole back story was he was like an adventurer pet.
- 20:45Like these adventures had like picked him up during like Cragma
- 20:49keep and, and then his whole adventure party had died.
- 20:54And so he was kind of like shaken by the fact that they had
- 20:58all died and he became like a spore druid and was super into
- 21:02mushrooms. And then we found a deck of many
- 21:06things and we played these house rules with deck of many things
- 21:10where it was like roll AD 100. There's 100 different outcomes
- 21:15possible. It's like 5050 on whether it's
- 21:18bad or great. And so he lost his body and
- 21:23became a lizard folk at some point and then had to change
- 21:27class from he changed from being a spore druid to like a a monk
- 21:32slash cleric. But yeah.
- 21:35He's my. Here's my my little He's got his
- 21:41part, his decaminity. He became his whole personality.
- 21:44He carried. He carried around a deck of many
- 21:46things and had people draw cards and ruin lives.
- 21:50Destroyed chaos. Unfettered chaos.
- 21:55I love that. Yeah, that's definitely a chaos
- 21:58agent. But yeah, that was that's that's
- 22:00one of my favorite characters I've played.
- 22:02I've played a few others, Ranger and I've played some magic users
- 22:08as well. I have, I have yet to play
- 22:10Warlock, which I am like anxious to try at some point.
- 22:13Yeah. Yeah, I think they're they're
- 22:16different in five 5.5 I think. They are, yeah.
- 22:23I just like the idea of like, yeah, I get my power from this
- 22:27other being and they're in my head all the time telling me
- 22:31what to do. Yes, Yeah, yeah, yeah, I same
- 22:37for me. I I I've never really like pull
- 22:40fully played just a Warlock, I think for exactly that reason.
- 22:42It's like it's a lot of stuff going on there, but it seems
- 22:44cool and stuff, but you know, I don't know.
- 22:46Also like the spell casting sometime just like was weird to
- 22:49me because I'm used to like just like the level spells and stuff
- 22:51but they have like a lot of different more cantrips and
- 22:54stuff but that's not. Used to having to cast it at
- 22:58like full level whatever you are.
- 23:01Yeah, yeah, I'll just, you know, this level 1 spell, but I know
- 23:03it's always going to be level 5 or whatever kind of thing.
- 23:05So yeah, it's just a little different, but I I can see the
- 23:08the fun of them for sure, especially, you know, Ford is is
- 23:11great. Everyone loves Ford from the
- 23:13mighty 9, right? Eldridge Blast.
- 23:17Eldridge Blast. Yeah, his and and like Ford's
- 23:22back story is very cool and this weird like dynamic of am I good
- 23:29or am I bad? Yeah.
- 23:32Who knows? Who knows?
- 23:35Have you watched any other actual plays that you are a fan
- 23:39of? Definitely, I watched a few
- 23:42dimension 20. Dimension 20.
- 23:46Yeah. I mean, that's, that's great.
- 23:50Easier for me to consume I feel like because they do hour long
- 23:53episodes and it's only and and the season is like 12 episodes
- 23:57and then you're done right? Yeah, Yeah, I don't think of
- 24:01any, you know it, I feel like mostly now I I really just watch
- 24:04Critical Role. But like when I was first
- 24:06getting into DND and stuff, you know, I mean when I have time to
- 24:10watch or listen to things really like it's just like trying to
- 24:14keep multiple series going. You're like these hours of
- 24:17content to catch up on. But yeah, mostly Critical Role
- 24:20now. I, I feel like back then I was
- 24:23trying to listen to a bit more stuff when I was more current, I
- 24:26guess with with Chris. Well, then you get into like a
- 24:28touring band or whatever and you know.
- 24:31Yeah, you miss a week or two and then you're like, oh, no.
- 24:35Oh, here I go. So I think I listened to to
- 24:38like, I think Yogscast used to have one, maybe.
- 24:45I can't remember what that one's.
- 24:48Called high rollers. High rollers.
- 24:50I think that's what it's called. But yeah, so that I I the, the
- 24:54DND official one that they used to have, I think that's camera
- 24:58action is what it was called. And that was a long time ago.
- 25:01That was fun too, because they were just going through cursive
- 25:03Stroud when that module just came out.
- 25:05So like that was really. And that's a great module.
- 25:08So yeah. That was one of the first
- 25:12modules we I I played through was was Chris of Stride a lot of
- 25:15fun. That one's really fun.
- 25:17That one's really fun. Yeah, I'm not DM Ed that.
- 25:20I don't know if I could. I feel like it's a lot want to,
- 25:23but I don't know. I don't know how well I can
- 25:25Stroud. Yeah, it's a lot.
- 25:28It's a lot because Stroud's very, very active.
- 25:30Very active. Very.
- 25:32I mean, that's like what makes the module so great and what
- 25:34makes him such a great villain is and and fun to play as Adm.
- 25:37But you know, you have to you know, you, you be very active
- 25:41and be very like in the face and like, yeah, like showing
- 25:44yourself to the the party all the time.
- 25:45You're not just like the in the back, right, the wizard in the
- 25:48back or whatever behind the screen.
- 25:50You're you're like, I'm going to just come up and, and just just
- 25:54to not even just to, you know, fight the PCs and, and like
- 25:58actually like kill them, but just to like intimidate them and
- 26:00be like, yeah, you got no hope kind of thing, right?
- 26:03Like there's no chance you're never going to touch me kind of
- 26:06thing. Just to rub salt in the wound
- 26:08and then just leave, you know, and, and the PCs are just like,
- 26:13this is terrible. I can't like, you know, so.
- 26:16It just the mind. Yeah.
- 26:19Yep, Yep, Yep, Yep. Very like cerebral mind games.
- 26:22Yeah, it's very cool. So let's talk video games for a
- 26:29minute, because video games were also on your list.
- 26:32What kind of video games do you play?
- 26:34It's a, it's a broad thing, right?
- 26:38Yeah, that is a broad question, but a very fair 1.
- 26:41I feel like, you know, a lot of people play a lot of different
- 26:43kinds of games lately, lately I've been playing again through
- 26:47Baldur's Gate 3 because I'm, I just can't, I can't get enough.
- 26:51I, I just can't. And I'm in between games.
- 26:55So I just, I need the fix. So like in Baldur's Gate 3,
- 26:58just, you know, in Act 3 right now.
- 27:00So having a grand old time in Baldur's Gate, the city as well.
- 27:06Yeah. Aside from that, I play a lot of
- 27:09JRPGS and stuff like that too. I, I really like that stuff, you
- 27:13know, like Persona and and things like that.
- 27:15It's a great because they're another favorite games of mine.
- 27:18So mostly play well, I guess I, I, I split my time pretty evenly
- 27:21between PC and console. Mostly just PS 5 is what I would
- 27:26plan for console. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:30So yeah, I wanna, I guess a lot of Japanese games is really what
- 27:33it is, the RPGs like, you know, the like a Dragon series,
- 27:37persona, all that stuff. And, and actually this new game
- 27:41that just came out, what it's called on on Steam that I've
- 27:44been playing is the Fields of Mystra, I think Mystria.
- 27:47Mystria. Have you heard of that one?
- 27:48Yeah, I've heard of that. It's on my it's on my 2 week
- 27:52playlist at some point. My my Steam wish list, right?
- 27:55As if I didn't have enough Steam games already that I haven't
- 27:58played. Oh yeah.
- 28:00Well, tell me a little bit about that.
- 28:02What's what, what piqued your interest there?
- 28:04And how's how's that going? I, I mean, it's, I kind of just
- 28:08kind of got started on it 'cause you know, I've been pretty
- 28:10occupied with Ballersgate 3. But when I do pull myself away
- 28:13from that, I have been playing that and like I've just been,
- 28:16I've been watching it for a while.
- 28:17I bought it in early access and like tried it and I was like,
- 28:20this is cool. Like I like that, but it just
- 28:23recently fully released, I think in like August or so.
- 28:25So but it it it, it I just really enjoy Stardew Valley.
- 28:29Like that's one of my favorite games.
- 28:31Like it just, it's such a comfort game, I guess, very
- 28:34relaxing. So yeah, so you know, it's it's
- 28:38very similar in that regard, you know, 2DS Sprite style and, you
- 28:42know, farming and stuff like that.
- 28:43And yeah, very Stardew Valley, yes.
- 28:45But, you know, so it's just a little, it's something new in
- 28:48that vein, right? We'll continue to wait for a
- 28:51concern date to maybe do something like a sequel, maybe
- 28:55another Purdue. Valley the Haunted Chocolatier.
- 28:59Is that, Is that what his? I don't remember What?
- 29:03What they're working on. Yeah.
- 29:04I don't know. Something like that.
- 29:06You get in the comments make fun of me for not knowing anything I
- 29:09don't. Remember.
- 29:11But I think that's right. It sounds.
- 29:13It sounds correct to me. Right.
- 29:15Yeah, at least if it's wrong, we were both wrong and we'll suffer
- 29:20the consequences of the Internet.
- 29:22That's right. You're both wrong, yeah.
- 29:24Chris wrong about concern. Eight games.
- 29:26Stand in stand in solidarity. Yeah so that's if you really
- 29:32like Stardew valley I I mean it's it's a nice like fix in
- 29:35that same kind of and I just really also like the art style
- 29:37that they kind of used. The art style is just so, so
- 29:39great, like it's that 80s nineties art style, but you
- 29:42know, kind of updated a little bit, you know, so it keeps that
- 29:45soul and and that just that stuff just like gets me right in
- 29:47the right in the soul. I love that.
- 29:49So it's like, OK, I'm going to get that game.
- 29:52Yep. So I'm easy, I'm easy like that
- 29:55got an 80s nineties art style. I love it and.
- 29:59So so are you. We'll, we'll, we'll do another.
- 30:02This is a smooth transition. This one feels good.
- 30:05We'll we'll transition into anime.
- 30:07So are you like an 80s nineties anime style lover, enjoyer of
- 30:13older anime or? Pretty much, yeah.
- 30:18I would say pretty much all anime, yeah.
- 30:20But I mean, definitely I gravitate more towards the older
- 30:22stuff, I guess. If I have to pick, I definitely
- 30:25don't keep up to date because there's just a lot of shows that
- 30:28come out and only so much time in the day.
- 30:31If you're trying to divide it between watching anime and DND
- 30:34and actual plays and games and being in a band and making
- 30:38music. There's like new seasons of
- 30:41anime that start like every three weeks.
- 30:43And I have a friend who will message me and she'll she'll be
- 30:46like, have you tried these three animes?
- 30:48And I'm like, I haven't tried the last 14 animes that you told
- 30:51me about, but I'd love to. I'd really like.
- 30:56So many hours in the day here, like I'm doing the best I can,
- 31:01you know? So, yeah, so I, I guess, you
- 31:03know, I mean, that's just like nostalgic stuff, you know,
- 31:05'cause growing up in, in like the late 90s, early 2000s, like
- 31:08tsunami and stuff. Like, you know, that's, that's
- 31:11the stuff that they had. So, you know, you just, you
- 31:14know, when you're in your formative years and you see that
- 31:16and you're like, yeah, that feels really good.
- 31:17Or you just don't see anything like that on TV really back
- 31:20then, you know? So it's just so different that
- 31:22it just really sticks out in that kind of way.
- 31:24And yeah, so there's just a lot of great shows from that.
- 31:27But yeah, I, I, I do really gravitate towards 80s, nineties
- 31:30and like 2000s. Well, even the 20 tens a little
- 31:32bit too, I guess. So yeah, all anime.
- 31:36All of it. I mean, I got a whole that too
- 31:38and everything. I've got a whole sleeve and
- 31:41everything for my favorite show which is Fooly Cooly so.
- 31:45I love Fooly cooly. Oh good, it's.
- 31:48Only like 6 episodes, right? It's only 6 episodes.
- 31:50Really, really short, yeah. Yeah, only 6 episodes was the
- 31:54most wild. It's crazy.
- 31:57Most of the wall energy, Yeah. I've I've known some fully
- 32:01coolly enjoyers in my past, but I don't I don't know that I've
- 32:04ever met someone who who was their favorite and definitely
- 32:06not enough to get a full arm, a full a full sleeve.
- 32:11Oh yeah, man, I love that show so much.
- 32:15So yeah, that's my favorite. Yeah.
- 32:18In terms of recent anime, I've been, I mean, I've been keeping
- 32:20up to date with the new ghost in the show that just came out.
- 32:24So yeah, new series more based on the manga, but this is the
- 32:29old major, I guess from, you know, the movie and stuff, just,
- 32:31you know, just a great movie. But yeah, so that that's that's
- 32:36probably the only like current anime that I'm really like, OK,
- 32:38I'm going to make, I'm gonna, I gotta make time to make sure I
- 32:42see that because I just I really like that series, especially
- 32:45because it's more close to the manga.
- 32:46So, you know, it's just it's, it's, it's different than like
- 32:50the other stuff that we've had in that kind of universe.
- 32:53So it's very cool. And it looks great.
- 32:55So, so I'd love to hear some like tour stories from when you
- 33:00guys were in Japan 'cause I know you were there earlier this
- 33:02year, right? We were, yeah.
- 33:04It's back in April. It was my first time ever being
- 33:07in Japan. So this, that was really full
- 33:10circle, big life moment kind of thing.
- 33:12I've been wanting to go for a long time.
- 33:14Yeah, very cool. And you guys were a hit there
- 33:17from from like the clips of shows I've seen.
- 33:20Yeah, it was pretty crazy. Japan really shows up.
- 33:25Japan really did show up. Yes, that's true.
- 33:27Yeah, it was pretty nuts. Like, yeah, every show was sold
- 33:31out. Every show was sold out like
- 33:33within like 36 hours or something, you know, if like
- 33:37posting it. So like we had to add like
- 33:39another show and change venues, upgrade venues and stuff.
- 33:42So it was, yeah, it was kind of wild, you know?
- 33:48Did you get to do any like anime touring or like visit?
- 33:52I mean, how, how is that connection?
- 33:54I don't even know what question I'm trying to ask, but I feel
- 33:56like you know what I'm what I'm getting towards.
- 33:58Yeah, I think I do. I think I know what you're
- 34:00trying to ask. Yeah.
- 34:01Like after the tour we did 6 shows and that was like that
- 34:04first week basically that we were there.
- 34:08I think we got in on like Saturday night and then Monday
- 34:11through like that next fall and Saturday that was the shows.
- 34:14So we did all those shows. So you know, we got to see a lot
- 34:16of Japan firing from starting from Osaka going all the way up.
- 34:20But you know when you're on tour, you don't get to see
- 34:21necessarily all that much, but but it was still great.
- 34:25And then after that, IA couple of us stayed a little bit
- 34:28longer. A couple of the guys stayed I
- 34:30think for like another four or five days maybe.
- 34:33And then Cody and I stayed like an extra week or 10 days because
- 34:39like, if I'm over there, I'm I'm gonna make some time.
- 34:42You might as well do it. Yeah, do the thing.
- 34:46Exactly. Yeah, so and I mean in terms of
- 34:49like anime specific tourism or whatever stuff, I did get to go
- 34:54to Akihabara, which was great. You know, I know just, I know
- 34:59it's not necessarily the best place to shop sometimes these
- 35:01days for things, but you know, it's just like when you've been
- 35:04an anime fan for 20 more or more than 20 years or whatever, and
- 35:11you've just been seeing like I can help her all the time, You
- 35:14know, from all the shows or like, you know, media and stuff
- 35:17that you consumed back then online and YouTube and or
- 35:20before, you know, on like new grounds or whatever, and or, you
- 35:24know, whatever, whatever other random places you would go to
- 35:27and, you know, pre YouTube, dominant Internet and social
- 35:30media dominant Internet. Yeah.
- 35:33Like, you know, it's one of those things that I I should go
- 35:35and, and see it kind of thing. So I went there.
- 35:37I got a number of figures, which actually that where is it?
- 35:41That one right there. This is Sendo from Hachimeno
- 35:45Rico, which is one of my favorite shows.
- 35:46I love that show. And that was so that was a pick
- 35:48up from Akaru. And that's just a nice statue.
- 35:51It's actually more of a statue. But anyway, yeah, I I did get to
- 35:55do a little bit of tourism in that regard.
- 35:56So that was that was nice. But I tried to mostly do like
- 36:00just other stuff as well, non anime tourism things.
- 36:04Right. Yeah.
- 36:06Like it's a beautiful. Country just so much.
- 36:09Yeah, there's so much. Yeah, one of these days I'll
- 36:13make it out there. My daughter also is a big, it's
- 36:17funny 'cause she won't watch anime with me, but she is very
- 36:19interested. She'll watch like she loves
- 36:23Studio Ghibli, but she won't watch any anime with me.
- 36:30My son, on the other hand, we watched, we watched My Hero
- 36:34Academia. It's kind of hard to find anime
- 36:37that is like age appropriate for like a 10 year old, but yeah.
- 36:42Yeah. Yeah, my so So what are your,
- 36:50what are some of your other favourites?
- 36:51Like what other stuff are you into?
- 36:55In terms of animate, well, so we've got Fuliqua Legos from the
- 36:58show and I just mentioned Hajimeleko, which is like.
- 37:01That is. A a newer, I guess addition to
- 37:05like one of my favourites of all time, like within the past
- 37:07couple of years. I just absolutely love that
- 37:10show. That's if you've never seen it.
- 37:12If any one of you have never seen it online, you have to
- 37:15watch it like. It's crazy.
- 37:17It's. So good, it's so good.
- 37:20I like I don't even care if you don't like boxing or sports like
- 37:23just watch it. You'll, you will you will enjoy
- 37:26it. It's so peak.
- 37:30But from that I really like like the Satoshi Kong movies too.
- 37:36If you're familiar with his movies like like Perfect Blue,
- 37:39Millennium Actress. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:42Yeah, like those. They're they're beautiful
- 37:44movies, you know, You know, rest in peace cone son, But he was
- 37:50awesome. Those those movies are so, so
- 37:53really well done. Paranoid Paprika, paranoid
- 37:57agent, you know, big. I love serial experiments Lane.
- 38:03That is a great show and and seriously.
- 38:07Watch. Serial experiments Lane and
- 38:12especially watching it like now, it's very interesting.
- 38:18Like how predictive it was of certain aspects of like the the
- 38:23Internet and the modern day and stuff.
- 38:25It's very cool, but a very good show.
- 38:29And this is my two watch list. I love that that's like that era
- 38:34of, of anime watching like these, like 12 episode arcs is
- 38:40just a ton of fun. And like I have, I have some on
- 38:45DVD because that's how you used to have to.
- 38:47Watch them back then. Like I have like Escaflone on
- 38:50DVD and Witch Hunter Robin and I have all of I have all of the
- 38:57original Full Full Metal Malcolm, Full Metal Alchemist on
- 39:02DVD. That's a great show.
- 39:05I had I I love that show, maybe one of my favourites and I had
- 39:09to watch it like as it came out 4 episodes at a time on DVD that
- 39:14I would pay $20.00 for. Classic, classic.
- 39:20Yeah. I feel that, man.
- 39:22I feel that. Another one I I like another one
- 39:24from that that era that I I still love, I still think is so
- 39:28funny as a lucky star. You know that show.
- 39:32I don't. I feel like it's.
- 39:34A slice of like comedy here. That's all right.
- 39:36This is, this is sometimes there's deep cuts, you know,
- 39:39this is like, you know, late 2000s otaku stuff.
- 39:44You know, very cute chibi characters.
- 39:47Chibi characters. It's, it's, it's a very funny
- 39:49show, kind of parodies a lot of like the, the, the scene from
- 39:53that time. So a lot of like Hardy, Susan
- 39:55Mia parodies and stuff. Yeah.
- 39:59And then, you know, just, yeah, parody, general parodies of
- 40:02Japanese culture and stuff. So it it, it's, I think it's
- 40:04still pretty funny, some pretty funny.
- 40:07Moments in that one in terms of like more recent shows, which
- 40:10one I really you know I I feel like it hasn't been talked about
- 40:15in a while, but like if it had did you ever see darling and the
- 40:19Franks? You know this show I.
- 40:20Love darling and the Franks. I have a 0 to nendoroid
- 40:25somewhere. This is the second time I've
- 40:26talked about nendoroids recently and they're not on my desk
- 40:29anymore. I have one of her and I have one
- 40:31of gojo from Jujitsu Kaisen. JJK yeah, nice, nice, but I so I
- 40:37loved that show and then just got super wild, which I mean is
- 40:41classic studio Trigger because I mean I also love I just love
- 40:45studio trigger that like Killa Killa is another one yeah, Killa
- 40:48Killa is another one that I really like that that was a
- 40:50great. This is my era of, of anime that
- 40:53you're you're talking about for sure.
- 40:55That I really love. Oh my gosh, there's Fire Force
- 41:02and the one Death Eater. Death Eater Death.
- 41:07Is that what it's called or death parade?
- 41:11No, I. Remember Death Parade?
- 41:13That was a great show. It's not Death Eater, it's
- 41:15something else. What?
- 41:16Why? What is wrong with me?
- 41:18I don't know. There's fire force and fire
- 41:23forces related to Don't Come at me, the Internet Soul Eater is
- 41:31is what it's called. Yeah, yeah, I know that.
- 41:34Love the anime, the anime style from that in particular, those
- 41:37two is is like speaks to me on a on a different level.
- 41:41And they're very they're I don't know if you watch Fire Force,
- 41:43but they're like tangentially related to each other, but
- 41:49definitely by like the same studio, same same artist, very,
- 41:55very unique style. I feel like right?
- 41:58Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 42:00I definitely, I've definitely seen Soul Eater.
- 42:02I haven't seen Fire Force, but I'll definitely add that to the
- 42:05growing list of things that I need.
- 42:07This is a growing list of things.
- 42:09To watch and just so much stuff. Yeah, good stuff.
- 42:13You'll never get to because there's just so much of it.
- 42:17One day, right? But you keep telling yourself
- 42:19one day you'll get to it and it'll be great.
- 42:22But here we are. You mentioned you mentioned
- 42:26sports and boxing in particular. I think it was something that's
- 42:30very cool about anime and I've watched a few that are like
- 42:34this, but it will have like this very specific niche.
- 42:38Like I watched one about like a they played like a specific
- 42:43Japanese instrument. And that's kind of like the
- 42:45whole premise is, is it's more like slice of life and it's very
- 42:50focused on that facet of their life.
- 42:54Or like Hockey U where they play volleyball.
- 42:58Yeah. I love that.
- 43:00Or the yeah. What is the one that they play
- 43:01soccer in blue? Lock.
- 43:04Blue Lock, Yeah, is the more recent one, yeah.
- 43:07Sports that I like know almost nothing about, but like all of a
- 43:11sudden I'm like, Oh yeah, I know a ton about volleyball, what are
- 43:14you talking about? Yeah, right.
- 43:15And I know all these. I was like, I know all the
- 43:17insurance and outs where you shouldn't stand.
- 43:18Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 43:20Yeah. No, it's a thing.
- 43:22It's a real thing. I think like the first one that
- 43:24I remember doing that well, I it's like apparently credited
- 43:29like with even bringing basketball over to Japan or like
- 43:32making it so big as Slam Dunk, which is like a a 90s anime,
- 43:35which is that is a great show too.
- 43:37Again, you really like that 90s style.
- 43:40That's that's got it in spades, but Slam dunk is great like
- 43:43Prince of Tennis. Yeah, Captain Tsubasa, how'd you
- 43:47gonna go Blue Lock IQ sports anime are fun.
- 43:50There's just, I don't know, I I used to play sports, but like,
- 43:53you know, so maybe that's why, but I don't know.
- 43:57I really like sports anime. It's interesting.
- 44:01I just, I love, and I mean, I guess that kind of speaks to
- 44:04like the whole premise behind the show, at least in its
- 44:06current iteration of what it is, is like, listen to people talk
- 44:10about like this cool niche stuff and like get real deep into it.
- 44:15And it's it's just a lot of fun learning about these things that
- 44:20I wouldn't otherwise get to experience.
- 44:25So fantasy novels is another one that you listed on, on your
- 44:28things that you're interested in.
- 44:30That's. Right.
- 44:31Let's let's dive into that for a little bit.
- 44:33What are your favorite series? What What are your favorite
- 44:37books? Favorite series?
- 44:40Favorite books? Well, let me see.
- 44:44I got, I got to look at my shelf.
- 44:47I got to just quickly peek over at my shelf real fast.
- 44:53Yeah. I mean, really it's mostly just
- 44:54something that I've been recently kind of getting back
- 44:55into because I used to read a lot more when I was younger, you
- 44:58know, and and I maybe this is familiar for a lot of people out
- 45:02there, but, you know, listen, read, read a lot more when
- 45:04you're younger and kind of fell out of it, you know, as or
- 45:07whatever as you grow up. And I don't know, it's just like
- 45:09a goal this year of just like, I want to just read a little bit
- 45:12more and like just get back into reading fantasy or science
- 45:15fiction and, and, you know, or something like that.
- 45:17So you, you mentioned it earlier, but like the big one
- 45:20that I've been crushing through this year is Dungeon Crawl and
- 45:23Carl. It's so good, it's great.
- 45:26It's so. Fun.
- 45:28I have an episode with Amanda from Emo Kids Anonymous where
- 45:33that's that's all we talk about. Amanda and I talked about that I
- 45:36worked on when we met. Her and I have talked a lot
- 45:42about dungeons, Crawl and Carl. We have like an hour and a half
- 45:45of of of it recorded and then some, right?
- 45:50Yeah, I, I believe that, Yeah. Yeah.
- 45:54So she told me that it gets like because I just started book 5
- 45:57and she was like you, you got. It so good right around then.
- 46:02So like I'm I yeah, I just started it.
- 46:05I wanted I have one I was just reading, which is like a a
- 46:09classic book Neuromancer. I was just finishing this one.
- 46:13Just kind of I felt like I should read that, but I try to
- 46:15no, because I feel like I can just like get burned out if I
- 46:17just go ham into DCC, you know, just like go crazy.
- 46:23I try to, I try to break it up every now and then.
- 46:25But yeah, I just started book 5. It is great so far.
- 46:29So I, I will, I promise, Amanda, if you watch it, I will let you
- 46:34know what I think because. Keep us holding the Luke.
- 46:38Yeah, I can do that. I would.
- 46:40Love to know what you think, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
- 46:43I just started rereading it actually.
- 46:45I'm just I'm just wrapped. I'm in the prologue of book 1 on
- 46:49my on my second read through, but I've I've also like read
- 46:54around in the Series A little bit, but it's.
- 46:57It's great. It's great, yeah.
- 46:59I mean, I, I think it's one of those series that like if
- 47:03someone asks me to recommend something to them, I'm just
- 47:06like, you know what? Just read the it's, it's fun,
- 47:09it's easy, it's light, but it's like really good.
- 47:12It's just like it. It's brain candy in a way.
- 47:15You know it. Just it.
- 47:16Yeah. It just it's a great story and
- 47:19and and it's a great it Scratch is just fun, Yeah.
- 47:23It scratches. It's just that you didn't even
- 47:24know you had. You know, it's, it's it's very
- 47:26good, yeah. Especially I feel like if you
- 47:29grew up maybe like playing online games or you know, like
- 47:32World of Warcraft, which you know, I did of course, because
- 47:35I'm just the turbo nerd or whatever I'm.
- 47:39Right there with you, buddy. Yeah, man.
- 47:42Yeah. But you know, you know, you just
- 47:44like it. It it really scratches that itch
- 47:48for me, I guess in the sense of, you know, online gaming or, you
- 47:52know, stuff like that and show setting and just, you know,
- 47:55general pop culture and and things.
- 47:56But in in just done in such a a fun, refreshing kind of way that
- 48:00it's, you know, not beating you over the head with it sometimes.
- 48:04I guess, you know, sometimes that must stop.
- 48:06The pop culture bait can get a little much in my opinion
- 48:09sometimes. And I think Matt Denman just
- 48:12does a great job like. He does very good.
- 48:15It's like it's like Ready Player 1, but that's without being just
- 48:21copious lists of pop culture references.
- 48:25That's exactly right. Yeah.
- 48:26It's just like Ready Player One, but just a little bit more
- 48:29fresh, I guess. So yeah.
- 48:32Aside from aside from that, you did ask, like my favorite series
- 48:36again. I have to look at the shelf
- 48:38because I'm otherwise I won't remember.
- 48:43Well, I, I mean, I, I don't want to bring up any old wounds for
- 48:47anyone, but we're all waiting for book 3 of the King Killer
- 48:51Chronicles. Patiently, maybe some just not
- 48:54so patiently. The one that I like. 14 years,
- 48:58right 14. This year I read that book while
- 49:01my wife is pregnant. Yep.
- 49:05Pat Pat for authors, please, Pat, please, please do it.
- 49:10For me, Pat, listen me, Pat. Do it for Phil, for Chris, for
- 49:14Chris Paul from Millington. He does so much for the world,
- 49:19the least you could do is write book three of the King Killer
- 49:21Chronicles for Phil. And May you can call him Phil,
- 49:28you can call you. Can't call me Phil if you want.
- 49:31Look it up. What a great guy.
- 49:33We're just so grateful of the trombone players sitting here
- 49:38asking for books very nicely, very nicely.
- 49:43So yeah, that I, I, I mean, that's a great, that's a great
- 49:46series. I, I like, I, I feel like I read
- 49:49it originally, like back when it was first coming out, but I
- 49:52reread it recently. I was like, this is yeah.
- 49:54And I remember why I was upset that it wasn't coming out yet.
- 49:58Like really wanting. It very good.
- 50:00It is. It is really good.
- 50:03What else have I been? I also read a bit of this book
- 50:16called The Poppy War, which is like a part of the series.
- 50:20Yeah. So I started that one and that
- 50:22was really good too. I was doing that.
- 50:25But again, DCC kind of takes over.
- 50:27So that's. That's kind of it.
- 50:30Do that. Yeah, So, you know, I mean, Lord
- 50:34of the Rings was is, you know, was a was a big one growing up
- 50:37for me too, you know, like the, you know, the Aragon and that
- 50:43kind of stuff, right. Because that, that's that's.
- 50:45Naming books off my shelf. I've got DCC here.
- 50:50All this is right here. Yeah.
- 50:52You know, so no big deal. Yeah, but it's.
- 50:54It's been like a really nice thing to get back into doing
- 50:56and. And I really just enjoy it a
- 50:58lot. Yeah.
- 51:00And, and there's a lot of like really good fantasy stuff that
- 51:03I'm looking forward to. I guess really is when it comes
- 51:06down to in terms of what I'm looking forward to reading, just
- 51:08based on what I've heard or what I've read and things that
- 51:12inspire other things like there's like Purdue Street
- 51:15Station, I'm really looking forward to reading that.
- 51:20Empire the Vampire. That 1 is really good from what
- 51:23I've heard. Jade City, which is like another
- 51:27sci-fi 1. So yeah.
- 51:29I haven't read any of these, but I am excited to add them to my
- 51:31list as well. I heard they're really.
- 51:34Great. Let me know how they are when
- 51:36when you when you've gotten to around to them.
- 51:38I sure will. I can definitely.
- 51:39If you ever want to dive into like an Avengers style, like
- 51:43non-stop so many books, anything by Brandon Sanderson, he's like
- 51:49all of these, this whole, this whole row of shelves is
- 51:52Sanderson. I, yeah, So I've been, I've been
- 51:55very eager to start Sanderson because like I, I know how good
- 52:01it is, but I also, that's part of the problem is I know how
- 52:03good it is. So, so like Mistborn, I have up
- 52:07there somewhere too. And I was like, that's the one
- 52:10I'm going to start with because I do have like the first, the
- 52:13first one, the storm storm like Chronicles too.
- 52:16That's the right right place to start for sure.
- 52:19That's what I that's what I've heard, so I'm very definitely
- 52:22looking forward to that. And eventually in the next
- 52:27decade or so, it it goes from fantasy and will morph into more
- 52:32of a science fiction experience, which is kind of cool if you
- 52:37like both. So.
- 52:38I do so that's good. I like this.
- 52:40I like this suggestion. Fantastic, really liking.
- 52:44Well, we are just about at time. What's Millington up to?
- 52:47I know you guys have more touring in your future.
- 52:50You just released a single. We did.
- 52:53We did. We just released a single.
- 52:55It's called I won't surrender. It's it's definitely a little
- 52:58different than maybe what you last heard from us, that's for
- 53:01sure. But I like it a lot.
- 53:04I. It's.
- 53:04Great. Thank you, Bill.
- 53:05Thank you. Thank you.
- 53:09Yeah, no, it's, it's been very fun to play live.
- 53:11I will say that, you know, ripping that out and and working
- 53:14on that was is great and it's fun to see how that goes off.
- 53:17Yeah. In terms of touring and stuff,
- 53:20yeah, we've got we're we're hanging down to Ska Supernova
- 53:24Fest, which is not this weekend, next weekend around do the DC
- 53:29area, I think. So if you're in that area and
- 53:32you want to come see us play, that's where we are.
- 53:34Aside from that, we got, we got, I'm really excited to be jumping
- 53:38on what's that called the silver screen con with Ice 9 kills in
- 53:44Worcester, right? That I'm very excited for that
- 53:47because I love Ice 9. Where is that again in Worcester
- 53:50area? OK.
- 53:52Yeah, so Worcester, MA thought about.
- 53:55I've been thinking about driving up there, which is foolish.
- 53:57I, I, I, I couldn't, I never could.
- 54:00But I would love to be there for that experience.
- 54:02I think. I mean, wow.
- 54:06Yeah, that's, that's cool. Yeah, that's going to be really
- 54:10cool. So it'll be really cool just to
- 54:11meet, you know, to talk to Spencer and all the other guys
- 54:13in nice line and stuff like that.
- 54:16Yeah, and then get that collab set up because, you know they
- 54:19love their horn sections. Well, they do, they do.
- 54:22They used to. They used to be a ska band way
- 54:25back in the day. Everyone knows that.
- 54:28But yeah, so that that's really, that's probably the big one.
- 54:32Well, aside from Orlando Wharf tour as well that we have coming
- 54:34up in November. We'll be there for that.
- 54:37That's also going to be really fun.
- 54:38Maybe we'll see Phil there as well.
- 54:40You might, you might see me Phil there.
- 54:42Phil is going to be at Orlando Wharf Tour probably.
- 54:46Will Phil do press there? We'll see.
- 54:49Maybe, but maybe. Watch Millington 100%.
- 54:52Thank you, Bill. I'm making, I'm making room.
- 54:57Thank you, thank you. And then I can keep you up to
- 54:59date on how I'm getting through because hopefully I'll be like
- 55:02well into book 6 or 7 by that point of DCC.
- 55:06So I can definitely be like, dude, dude, like that was crazy.
- 55:13Because I'm sure that is exactly what it would be like.
- 55:15Or maybe I'll have started Mistborn or something.
- 55:17I don't know. I'm sure there'll be plenty of
- 55:20things. Yeah, aside from that, through
- 55:22the end of the year, we have just our couple other shows.
- 55:26We have a Midwest run I think in earlier in November or October
- 55:29and then ending it off with a little Holly show in Albany.
- 55:32And then we got a lot of big stuff coming next year.
- 55:35I I know that's like the most cliche thing right of any band
- 55:38to say it's big things coming, but there genuinely is.
- 55:43Excited for the big things? Pretty.
- 55:45Exciting things. I would assume there's some more
- 55:47unannounced music coming that cannot be confirmed or denied,
- 55:51which is fine, but pretty excited about it either way.
- 55:54Thank you. Yeah, Yeah.
- 55:56Well. Check out Millington, if they're
- 55:58coming anywhere near you I would recommend stopping at a show.
- 56:03Ask Chris about the new crawler. Carl, you know, please do.
- 56:08Please. Do ask me about anything.
