Former Cop Sentenced for Walmart Shooting | Kansas City News
A former Kansas City cop, Taquiza Johnson, has been found guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action for shooting and killing 71-year-old Ronald Barnett in a Walmart parking lot in August 2024. Prosecutors say Johnson pulled his service weapon after Barnett got too close in a crosswalk; Johnson claimed Barnett threatened him and used racial slurs, but the jury didn’t buy it. Surveillance footage showed Johnson fleeing, then circling back to confront Barnett before firing and driving off. Barnett died from his injuries.
