Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Did you see the news the Prime Minister's little pep
- 0:03Speaker 1: talk on Friday to business leaders. The Business Chamber boss
- 0:06Speaker 1: said Rotrou had the sharpest fall in business confidence in
- 0:10Speaker 1: a decade. Businesses are wondering how long they can actually
- 0:14Speaker 1: stay in business and hold on. Luxon's reply is what
- 0:17Speaker 1: got people talking. A friend sent the link to the
- 0:21Speaker 1: article to me, sent it to me and said, David
- 0:23Speaker 1: Brent strikes again. You know, the guy from the office
- 0:25Speaker 1: in the UK.
- 0:27Speaker 2: They got to trust me. I'm taking these guys into
- 0:29Speaker 2: battle and I'm doing my own staplen. A sergeant major
- 0:33Speaker 2: spends all his time training his men to be killers.
- 0:36Speaker 2: He doesn't polish his own boots.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Now, this is what Luxon said, according to the transcript,
- 0:40Speaker 1: in part I think that's a negative view, to be honest, Like,
- 0:44Speaker 1: we're entrepreneurs and business people and I get it. You know,
- 0:48Speaker 1: if you're not retooling and radically disrupting your business, you
- 0:51Speaker 1: ain't doing the job. You know, you have to disrupt
- 0:54Speaker 1: yourself aggressively before you get disrupted by global events. He
- 0:58Speaker 1: then goes on to talk about his time running Unile
- 1:00Speaker 1: in Canada. I sat in Illinois for six years in
- 1:03Speaker 1: Chicago and The last person I ever wanted to talk
- 1:05Speaker 1: to as a CEO was the government. Can I get
- 1:07Speaker 1: some grant money to do something? No? No, I'm a
- 1:09Speaker 1: business person. I'm building a kick ass company that actually
- 1:14Speaker 1: has commercially superior returns, great customer experience, and awesome internal culture.
- 1:19Speaker 1: That is the job of what makes a great company,
- 1:22Speaker 1: not a good one, a great one. Now, the problem
- 1:25Speaker 1: here is not what he's saying. What he's saying has
- 1:29Speaker 1: a lot of truth in it. You shouldn't, as a
- 1:31Speaker 1: business leader, be sitting there waiting for a hand up
- 1:33Speaker 1: from the government, and most don't. Any entrepreneur will tell
- 1:37Speaker 1: you that most of what happens is off their own back.
- 1:41Speaker 1: It's the way he's saying it, his tone, it's a
- 1:45Speaker 1: bit off, it's a bit off putting. Trump does these
- 1:48Speaker 1: sorts of things and does these bits quite well because
- 1:50Speaker 1: he's funny. He's so outrageous it's almost entertaining. You know,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I am the greatest leader of all time in the world,
- 1:56Speaker 1: in the history of the world. It's like, we get it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: This is like some sort of David Brent slash Tony
- 2:04Speaker 1: Robins mash up, and I just don't think it's quite
- 2:06Speaker 1: working for.
