- 0:02What is up, friends?
- 0:03Okay, so we are going to talk today about just a little bit of a deeper dive.
- 0:07We talked about self -care last week, and now we're going to dive a little deeper
- 0:11and we're going to say, okay, like, how can this look?
- 0:13How can we practically, what are some things that we can do that are really
- 0:17simple to tend to what God has given us?
- 0:20And I'm going to again bring it back to, there was a period, a long period of time.
- 0:23Oh, no, no, no.
- 0:24We're going to pray first.
- 0:26We are.
- 0:27Lord, thank you so much that you are God and I pray for each one of my sisters
- 0:30that's listening today that you would minister deeply to her mind and her body
- 0:35and her soul, that she would feel you tending her and that she would fall even
- 0:40more deeply in love with you today.
- 0:43Please guide my tongue as I speak, let my words be uplifting and edifying, and let
- 0:48us go out from this time, from this conversation together, knowing and loving
- 0:52you better and being better able to serve our people.
- 0:55In your holy name, amen.
- 0:57Okay, so I like to say I'm a collector of wisdom.
- 1:01There is not a lot necessarily that I've really come up with on my own.
- 1:05The Lord has certainly given me things over the years, but there is so, so much y
- 1:09'all, so much that I have found that has just enriched my life deeply.
- 1:13And there was a long period of time where I was kind of living just in spirit world.
- 1:18And I alluded to this a little bit last week, just in spirit world, but much less
- 1:22in this idea of the physical and the tangible.
- 1:25So here is my story.
- 1:27I grew up in a non -Christian home.
- 1:30I had been saved since I was 11.
- 1:33But I didn't really have quality, healthy mentorship.
- 1:43So I hit my 20s and was really struggling.
- 1:48I had been walking with the Lord closely for years.
- 1:51I loved him.
- 1:53I devoted my life to him, but I was very much, I was messy.
- 1:57I had really challenging interpersonal relationships.
- 2:00I made bad choices.
- 2:01I didn't know how to clean up messes.
- 2:03I didn't know how to reconcile when things were hard with people.
- 2:06I tended to just kind of cut and run.
- 2:08And I really was, I was very aware of my sin.
- 2:13I was very aware of my shortcomings.
- 2:14I remember a friend of mine in law school being like, every time we talk, you're
- 2:18like really struggling.
- 2:21Like what's going on?
- 2:22You're never just okay.
- 2:24And I remember looking at him.
- 2:27I was friends with both he and his wife.
- 2:28And I remember looking at him and being really confused, like, are you actually
- 2:32just okay?
- 2:32Are you okay in your life?
- 2:34Because I'm not okay.
- 2:35I've never been okay.
- 2:38Over the years, and especially over the past decade, more and more, the Lord has
- 2:47healed my body as a way to heal my mind.
- 2:52It turns out, and if you don't know this, so I'm more of a crunchy girl.
- 2:55I bend a little bit more that way.
- 2:58The alignment between our body and soul is quite powerful.
- 3:03When our gut health is out of order, our mental health will be affected.
- 3:08When we're dehydrated, when we're sleep deprived, when we're living in a constant
- 3:13state of stress and fight or flight.
- 3:14And for me, I had some trauma from my...
- 3:18parents divorce and my dad's illness and paralysis, which I talked about in a prior
- 3:22episode, during my really formative years, I was kind of 10 to 12 years old, there
- 3:27were these 10 to 13, there were these huge changes going on in the stability of my
- 3:34life.
- 3:34This idea that no matter what, here's what your family looks like, when you lose that
- 3:40as a child, it hits hard.
- 3:42And that change...
- 3:45especially the age that I was when it all took place, really wrecked me and left me
- 3:53just limping along, desperately in need of healing and not even having a context for
- 4:00that.
- 4:00This is something that we've really reclaimed in this generation of parenting,
- 4:04this idea of looking back and healing what was before.
- 4:09But it wasn't something that as a child of the 80s and 90s was really part of the
- 4:13dialogue for parents at that time.
- 4:15And so lo and behold, what I had thought was my own sin and damage was that in
- 4:26part, but it was also needing to engage with the idea of permission to rest, drink
- 4:35water, move your body, get quality supplements.
- 4:39So I'm just, this is your sampler platter of many, not everything.
- 4:44but many of the things that the Lord has used to shore me up over the years,
- 4:49because lo and behold, when our bodies are better tended, our minds and our souls are
- 4:54better tended as well.
- 4:55My website is almost done.
- 4:57It might even be finished by the time you listen to this podcast, in which case
- 5:00it'll be in the show notes.
- 5:02And I literally have a whole section on mind, body, and soul care where I have a
- 5:05shortened version of this list of just like, boom, here it is.
- 5:09Here are all the things that, or here are some of the things that I love that have
- 5:13served well, because listen,
- 5:15if you are going to homeschool your children, if you're going to be on the
- 5:18front lines of educating your children, if you are going to run a business as a means
- 5:24of bringing in financial provision for your family.
- 5:27I talked last week about self care.
- 5:29It's not optional.
- 5:30It is not optional.
- 5:31You must maintain the engine of the car.
- 5:34If we are the car, right?
- 5:35You must maintain the engine of the car.
- 5:36You must tend to the vehicle for you to be able to live out your purpose well.
- 5:42Okay?
- 5:43And when we choose not to tend to the vehicle and we choose not, and this is not
- 5:48about like, we can get so fixed on results.
- 5:51Like I want to lose weight.
- 5:53I want to sleep better.
- 5:54I want to have more peace in my life.
- 5:57And we can get really frustrated when we don't start seeing the results that we
- 6:01want.
- 6:02But what I want to come into you guys is the idea that when you take action in the
- 6:08direction that you want to end up,
- 6:12the results will follow.
- 6:14And so maybe we need to be less concerned with whether it takes a year or three
- 6:18years or five years and be far more concerned with our trajectory.
- 6:22Because when our trajectory is oriented towards tending to ourselves, to our
- 6:27spirits, to our hearts, then the results will follow.
- 6:33And it may not be in the timeline we want.
- 6:35It may not look exactly the way that we want it to.
- 6:37Listen, this world is fallen.
- 6:40It's imperfect.
- 6:42But we first need to decide, okay, it's worth it.
- 6:47And we can feel really uncomfortable saying, well, I'm worth it.
- 6:50Okay, listen, if that feels uncomfortable, put a little asterisk and say, I'm worth
- 6:55it because he deems me worthy.
- 6:57Okay?
- 6:58It's not because you're better than anybody else.
- 7:00It's not because you're not broken and sinful, but he has imp...
- 7:03Oh gosh, there's this great quote that my dad grabbed hold of right before he got...
- 7:10cancer when I was about 13.
- 7:12He was starting to engage more deeply in the things of God and he ended up coming
- 7:18to faith through his ordeal with cancer.
- 7:22And this quote became a lifeline for me while he was sick.
- 7:26Let's see if I can catch it all.
- 7:28I have great worth apart from my performance for Christ gave his life for
- 7:32me and therefore imparted deep value to me.
- 7:36I am deeply loved, fully pleasing,
- 7:40totally accepted and forgiven in Christ.
- 7:44I think I caught it all pretty close.
- 7:45Okay, so he has imparted great value to you, okay?
- 7:51And therefore, it is right to tend what he has given you, okay?
- 7:59And the beautiful thing is, first of all, when we tend what he has given to us, we
- 8:04are coming from a place of fullness when we serve.
- 8:08I don't know if you've ever been around anybody or maybe you've been this person I
- 8:11certainly have at times where you're kind of giving, but you've got this little chip
- 8:16on your shoulder.
- 8:17I remember I would make dinner for our family when we were really, really new
- 8:21with all the little kids.
- 8:23And I was trying to be more natural.
- 8:26So like things just did not taste great because I was still learning.
- 8:29So it was like, oh, we're not going to use any sugar.
- 8:31It's just maple syrup.
- 8:33Maybe, maybe maple syrup and not much of it either.
- 8:36And then, you know, black bean brownies and all that thing.
- 8:39I'd listen, I'm sure they're, I'm sure you can make them in a way that tastes really
- 8:42delicious, but I was not, I was just learning.
- 8:45So it was a mess.
- 8:46And my husband would look at me with this.
- 8:48I'd be like, how do you like it?
- 8:49And he'd look at me with this funny expression and the line, which has become
- 8:52an inside joke ever since was it's not you, it's the ingredients.
- 8:58And I would be so furious because I was like, what do you mean you don't like it?
- 9:03I worked so hard on this, right?
- 9:05Because my worth was tied up in his response.
- 9:09The kids wouldn't eat it.
- 9:10I would be so mad.
- 9:12They would start eating before I sat down.
- 9:14Rather than training my children, I just fussed because bad fruit was coming out
- 9:19because of my wayward heart, because of my bad heart in that context.
- 9:25And so...
- 9:26We've all been around people like that.
- 9:27Sometimes we've been people like that.
- 9:29It's a sign that we're coming from deficit instead of fullness.
- 9:33When we can really rest and I did my best.
- 9:35And by the way, no, you don't have to be rude about it.
- 9:38But like I did my best.
- 9:40I was called to feed you.
- 9:41I fed the people.
- 9:42I've done what I can do.
- 9:43I'm actually giving you something that's better for you than you would have gotten
- 9:46otherwise.
- 9:46And then we can rest in that.
- 9:48Then all of a sudden the complaints don't bother us, right?
- 9:51Okay.
- 9:51So we're going to, we're going to be filled.
- 9:54The other thing is we're teaching our people how to tend to themselves.
- 9:57I mentioned in last week's episode that one of the studies that, or one of the
- 10:01findings that Brene Brown found in her data, so she's actually looking at
- 10:05quantitative data, what comes out in the stories that people are telling, is that
- 10:11we are unable to give what we have not been willing to receive ourselves, okay?
- 10:17So if we are always beating ourselves up for any mistakes, our children will catch
- 10:22that.
- 10:22even if we speak a message of grace, if we speak a message of grace but we are not
- 10:28willing to offer it to ourselves, we are acting as hypocrites in that area and our
- 10:35children will catch what is true.
- 10:38Okay?
- 10:39So I'm going to underline that a little bit.
- 10:42Okay?
- 10:42Let me just say this one more time.
- 10:45When we are saying one thing and we are not
- 10:50practicing it ourselves.
- 10:52When we are speaking to our children grace, but when push comes to shove and
- 10:58everything hits the fan, we are not willing to extend grace to ourselves.
- 11:01Our children will identify the hypocrisy and they will grab hold of what is true.
- 11:08Now I'm not talking big T true.
- 11:10I'm talking true of our own actions.
- 11:12They will read between the lines.
- 11:14They will see, okay, they say grace, but what they really mean is grace until you
- 11:19mess up.
- 11:20and then it's condemnation.
- 11:21And that, my friends, is what our children will exhibit.
- 11:25Okay?
- 11:25So that's why tending to ourselves is so important.
- 11:28Okay?
- 11:29So it's going to keep us from like having that chip on our shoulder, having the yuck
- 11:33come out.
- 11:35It's going to allow us to equip our children to walk in grace and mercy.
- 11:40And it's actually going to increase our effectiveness because when we are truly
- 11:44operating from a place of fullness instead of deficit, man, there's no stopping us.
- 11:49There is no stopping us, okay?
- 11:51The impact is powerful.
- 11:53Keep in mind, we've talked in here before, our impact is both deep and wide.
- 11:58So it may be that you're in a season where most of what you are doing is deep, sowing
- 12:02into the lives of your children, ministering to them, educating them,
- 12:06tending to your marriage, rebuilding crumbling foundations.
- 12:10That is key critical kingdom work.
- 12:14Do not disparage it just because it's to a small number.
- 12:17That's the way the world counts things.
- 12:19How many followers do you have?
- 12:20How many likes did it get?
- 12:21How many people were at that conference that you spoke at?
- 12:24Whatever it might be, that's the world's economy.
- 12:28God's economy says, what are you giving that I have given to you?
- 12:34He does not differentiate between the two talent servant and the five talent
- 12:38servant.
- 12:39They both get the same blessing.
- 12:41Well done, good and faithful servant.
- 12:43You have been faithful and little, I will set you over more.
- 12:46Enter into the joy of your master." We both receive the same blessing.
- 12:51So it is not for us to decide how big the number of people in our audience is,
- 12:56whether it's just our family or whether it's beyond.
- 12:59And keep in mind, this season of deep, it ends.
- 13:04It doesn't last forever.
- 13:05And then beyond that, there is ample time for us to spread out and minister to the
- 13:10people beyond our four walls.
- 13:12Okay?
- 13:13Now, so the way I talk about this with a friend of mine is I'm like, sometimes you
- 13:17just need a little whatever it is, you know, sometimes you just need a little
- 13:20collagen.
- 13:21That's one of my favorites.
- 13:23Y 'all, I'm going to give you guys a list of all the things that have served me
- 13:26well.
- 13:27Okay.
- 13:28Some of these are affiliate things.
- 13:29So you just so you know, but I'm not going to share anything that has not been tested
- 13:34that I don't love that.
- 13:36I don't like wholeheartedly like feel the benefit of myself.
- 13:40Okay.
- 13:41So.
- 13:43Oh, I had a story in my notes.
- 13:44I'm like, do I tell this right now?
- 13:46All right.
- 13:46So I'm going to talk to you guys about the health piece first, because this is the
- 13:49thing that, that really was transformative for me.
- 13:53So I had a lot of anxiety.
- 13:56I had digestive issues growing up.
- 13:59I, and I didn't even know that that wasn't normal because how, you know, that's, you
- 14:04just don't talk about that stuff.
- 14:05And then, um, going into my twenties, I had Graves' disease.
- 14:10I was able to get it managed by.
- 14:12actually getting out of the really stressful situation I was in.
- 14:15It turns out that being in a bad relationship and eating McDonald's all the
- 14:19time and not sleeping because you're working at a law firm and basically being
- 14:24stressed out because everybody was getting laid off because it was 2008, which, you
- 14:28know, wasn't a great time to be in the marketplace at all.
- 14:32Isn't that great for your health?
- 14:34So we got that managed and that was kind of the beginning of me really digging into
- 14:38this holistic health world.
- 14:42Fast forward to about a decade later, I started getting hives.
- 14:47I broke out in itchy spots all over, and I was like, what the monkey is this?
- 14:51What are we dealing with right now?
- 14:53And I hit it hard with all of my lawyer energy.
- 14:57I'm going to take whatever supplements you want me to.
- 14:59I'm going to do whatever testing you want me to.
- 15:00I'm going to do the blood work.
- 15:01I'm going to do all the things.
- 15:02I got myself more and more frustrated because every day, what was I doing?
- 15:06Nothing but looking at my skin and getting really frustrated and really irritable.
- 15:11So there came a point where I was working with a functional medicine person who was
- 15:15fabulous.
- 15:16And I started crying on the phone.
- 15:18And I was like, I can't do this anymore.
- 15:20I think I just need to be itchy for a while.
- 15:22And I spent the next few months taking baths, taking walks, going to bed, taking
- 15:28naps, just really taking care of myself without any sort of expectation on the
- 15:34results.
- 15:35Instead of being so results driven of like, I better feel better.
- 15:38I better look better, this better get resolved or else I'm gonna be really mad.
- 15:42I just accepted where my body was in the moment.
- 15:45And I was healing from some pretty significant disruption at the time.
- 15:50There had been some really hard moments that had happened in our family preceding
- 15:55that.
- 15:56And do you know what?
- 15:57Like three or four months later, my husband looked at me and he was like, you
- 16:00haven't talked about your skin in a while.
- 16:01I was like, you know what?
- 16:03Yeah, I don't itch anymore.
- 16:04Like I wasn't even thinking about it.
- 16:06And so this is the beauty you guys.
- 16:08of just these small practices to tend to our souls.
- 16:12Okay?
- 16:13So here's my laundry list of many favorites.
- 16:18And I talked about some of these last week.
- 16:20So this is kind of like we're looping back to a similar conversation, but we're going
- 16:24a little bit deeper.
- 16:24And we're also saying like little things matter.
- 16:27Okay?
- 16:28These little nudges, these little ways of tending to ourselves, this is part of how
- 16:34we ensure that we are going to be able to operate with maximum effectiveness.
- 16:38and we just create a new habit and we pick it up for a season and maybe we then
- 16:42incorporate another habit in another one or then we maybe lay down the one that we
- 16:46had before.
- 16:47Like there are some things in here where I'm like, oh, I'm not so mindful to do
- 16:49that anymore, but at the time it was really helpful.
- 16:52So we're just gonna take a moment and I just wanna invite you guys to just kind of
- 16:56like put your hand on your heart or take a deep breath and just see what the Holy
- 17:00Spirit highlights for you as I give you this list.
- 17:03So again, just as a reminder, I'm a crunchy girl.
- 17:05These are kind of more holistic in their bent, okay?
- 17:09And so take what you like and leave the rest, but know that this is an opportunity
- 17:13to just get quiet before the Lord and say, what do you want me to do next?
- 17:16To take care of this vessel that you gave me so that I can steward it well, so that
- 17:20I can serve your people well and receive your love at a deeper level because I am
- 17:24more accessible.
- 17:27I'm not in all the stress and anxiety and shoulds and ought tos.
- 17:30I'm really listening to you and to what you.
- 17:34what you are telling me this body that you gave me needs.
- 17:37Okay?
- 17:39So we're going to cultivate curiosity.
- 17:41We're going to pick one thing today, maybe two.
- 17:44Okay.
- 17:44All right.
- 17:45So here are a few of my favorites.
- 17:46Grounding.
- 17:47Did you know if you get your feet in the dirt, like I'm talking grass, I'm talking
- 17:52mud, I'm talking sand, anything that God made, not concrete.
- 17:57Okay.
- 17:58The earth has polarity to it and our body starts to like be part of that circuit.
- 18:04and it actually helps detoxify our body.
- 18:06It brings us out of fight or flight and into rest and restore.
- 18:10It can literally be just as simple as being out with your kids while they're
- 18:13playing and kicking your shoes off.
- 18:15Okay.
- 18:16Doesn't matter what temperature it is.
- 18:17Although of course it's more fun when it's summertime.
- 18:19Breath work.
- 18:20I talked to you guys about James Nestor in the book, Breathe.
- 18:23Breath, the book Breath.
- 18:25Gratitude.
- 18:26Keep a list.
- 18:28Okay.
- 18:29or make a practice like whenever I wash dishes, I'm gonna list three things that
- 18:32I'm grateful for.
- 18:32And I'm like, y 'all, maybe this is the one that I pick up because I've been more
- 18:36intentional in my gratitude practice at other times and I need to bring it back.
- 18:40Water.
- 18:41One of my friends keeps her big water carafe on her kitchen counter.
- 18:46No, it's her bathroom counter.
- 18:47And every time she goes in to use the restroom or brush her teeth or whatever,
- 18:51she takes a big long drink.
- 18:52And so she's getting more than twice her body or more than half her body weight
- 18:55every day, which is our recommendation.
- 18:57It's not eight, it's not eight glasses.
- 18:59It's actually half our body weight in ounces.
- 19:02Okay.
- 19:03Nourishing food with no guilt.
- 19:06Enjoy, enjoy the plethora of flavors that he has given you.
- 19:11Sleep.
- 19:13My, uh, my functional medicine lady or one of them, one of my people, um, she, she
- 19:20read this thing that said,
- 19:21Imagine that you are putting your favorite toddler down for a nap when you go to put
- 19:26yourself to sleep.
- 19:27Think of like the soft music and the dim lights and the cozy blanket.
- 19:32We need to nurture and nourish ourselves with sleep.
- 19:36I heard someone else describe hushing the house.
- 19:39My eyes start to hurt if the bright lights are on too late.
- 19:42So we turn everything down low.
- 19:44We quiet the music.
- 19:46We quiet the activity and we start to get ready for sleep.
- 19:49Okay.
- 19:50Activating the senses, touch, smell, taste, hearing, and sight.
- 19:55What are we listening to?
- 19:56What are we looking at?
- 19:57This morning I went outside and I just listened to the birds for a few minutes.
- 20:01Music, lotion, nice essential oils, correcting our posture, napping or
- 20:09resting, just lying there, even if we don't fall asleep.
- 20:13Cuddling with other people, touch is so key.
- 20:16Lymphatic drainage.
- 20:19Our lymph system is one of our main detoxifying tools and it's kind of taking
- 20:23out the trash by collecting.
- 20:27There's like these collection points.
- 20:28I think one is at your sternum and another is kind of at the creases of your legs.
- 20:33And it's this dumping ground that brings the toxins from our cells and the waste
- 20:39from our cells and helps excrete it out of the body.
- 20:42I think it ends up going in our, I don't know, it's excretory system somewhere.
- 20:48Anyway, we need to be well hydrated for the lymph to move.
- 20:53Okay.
- 20:54We also need to move our bodies for the lymph to move.
- 20:57Okay.
- 20:57Because it does not have its own pumping mechanism like blood does through the
- 21:01blood vessels.
- 21:02So we actually need to be in motion with muscles contracting and expanding,
- 21:07contract contracting and whatever the other word for it is.
- 21:09I don't know if it's expanding to move things along.
- 21:12So rebounding is huge, like getting on a trampoline and jumping, even walking and
- 21:16running in.
- 21:18motion to get things moving.
- 21:20Cold plunge, y 'all, I don't want to do this.
- 21:25It's on my list where it's like, if I get something real serious, maybe we're doing
- 21:28this, it can literally be as simple as turning down the shower, making it colder,
- 21:33colder, colder as you're in there or starting it cold.
- 21:35And then you can have your warm shower when you've had your medicine and you're
- 21:38good to go.
- 21:39Right.
- 21:40But I'm going to just be really honest.
- 21:42This is one of the places where I'm kind of a baby where I'm like, I don't want to
- 21:45do that.
- 21:45But you know what?
- 21:47There may come a season where that's exactly what I need.
- 21:49So cold plunges are key.
- 21:52They do a really good job resetting your system and helping your metabolism.
- 21:56So it's really great.
- 21:59And I'm just not going to be a hypocrite about it.
- 22:00I have not gone there.
- 22:02Movement, walking, stretching.
- 22:03I told you guys about the Lindywell app.
- 22:05I really like them.
- 22:07I'm still struggling to catch rhythm, but this is one of those things where I was
- 22:10like, I'm going to keep talking to you guys about it.
- 22:13so that I can't get away with whether I'm doing what I want to be doing for myself
- 22:17or not.
- 22:18I'm just going to keep being real with you guys.
- 22:20Movement is an area where I'm still really working.
- 22:22I actually wear a steps counter that my goal is to get to 10 ,000, but I put it on
- 22:27every day so that I can at least hold myself accountable even if I don't
- 22:30actually pull it off.
- 22:32This is a big one, mamas.
- 22:33Eat your food at the table.
- 22:36Sit down and breathe.
- 22:38and chew.
- 22:39So interesting when I worked with one of my functional medicine people, one of the
- 22:42first things she talked to us about was food etiquette.
- 22:45Do you sit at the table and chew your food?
- 22:48And I had to laugh.
- 22:49I'm like, I'm a mom of four.
- 22:50Do you really think I do that?
- 22:52I wait until the lunch is cold and they've all left the table.
- 22:54And then I basically go in like a scavenger and eat what they have not
- 22:57eaten.
- 22:58Like that's how we roll around here.
- 22:59But it's been so interesting to be like, oh, there's a different way to do it.
- 23:04And it's actually way better because you digest a lot better when you're breathing.
- 23:07and chewing and just kind of resting in your food.
- 23:12Not literally.
- 23:14Intermittent fasting.
- 23:14Y 'all even just saying, I do not eat between 7 a .m.
- 23:18Nope, flip it.
- 23:197 p .m.
- 23:20and 7 a .m.
- 23:21or 8 p .m.
- 23:22and 8 a .m.
- 23:23Now, people who are really looking to reset their systems, they do longer
- 23:26stretches than that.
- 23:27But even just being intentional about that extended gap over bedtime can really help
- 23:34give your body...
- 23:35room.
- 23:36So because it takes energy for our body to digest food.
- 23:38And so when we're in digestion mode, we're not in rest and restore mode.
- 23:43We're not in detoxifying mode.
- 23:44So we need to give our body a nice long pause so that it can take out the trash.
- 23:49Okay.
- 23:50Take a bath, up some salts, essential oils, baking soda, apple cider vinegar,
- 23:56all of these things to help nurture our bodies.
- 23:59Okay.
- 24:00Now here are some of my like my go -tos that I have really loved.
- 24:06massage and craniosacral therapy all help bring your nervous system down.
- 24:11And y 'all, I have a couple of wild craniosacral stories.
- 24:14I'm gonna tell them to you real quick.
- 24:16Okay.
- 24:17First, we had three children who were lip -tie, tongue -tie restricted, which was
- 24:21kind of a big conversation starting, I didn't find out about until our second,
- 24:26when I was like, why is he not crawling?
- 24:28And then we started, I think we started having some nursing issues or something.
- 24:33We somehow figured out that he was,
- 24:35that he was restricted.
- 24:37And this is pretty common with the whole, there's this gene that they call the MTHFR
- 24:44gene, which causes difficulties with detoxifying basically.
- 24:49Okay, so bring him to a craniocicrel therapist.
- 24:52And she looks at me and she was like, has he started crawling yet?
- 24:56I was like, no.
- 24:57She said, let me guess.
- 24:58He lays on his belly and kind of flaps his feet like a fish.
- 25:00And I was like, yeah.
- 25:03It's because of his lip tie, tongue tie.
- 25:05It was like having a rubber band stretching from his mouth to his ankles or
- 25:10to his feet.
- 25:11So he didn't want to crunch his legs up underneath him to start crawling.
- 25:14One session with her and he was crawling.
- 25:18So that was the first one.
- 25:20Second, I'm going to tell you this.
- 25:22I'm going to actually tell you the third story before the second, because the
- 25:24second one's so crazy.
- 25:25You're not going to believe it.
- 25:26Second story and craniosacral therapy basically deals with the fascia.
- 25:31which is that little membrane that covers the muscle.
- 25:33And the idea is it can get tangled like a bed sheet.
- 25:35And so craniosacral therapists help straighten it, which brings a lot of
- 25:39relief and brings you into that rest restory store instead of fight or flight
- 25:42and helps with a lot of physiological challenges.
- 25:46Fell down the stairs when my youngest was a year old, I was holding him and I really
- 25:52jacked up my back.
- 25:53I went to the chiropractor, I think six or eight times, didn't move the needle very
- 25:57much at all.
- 25:57I was still in a lot of pain after several weeks.
- 26:00I went to one craniosacral visit and they work with emotion too, how emotion traps
- 26:04in the body.
- 26:06Um, she, oh gosh, I have four craniosacral stories.
- 26:09You guys, I was not going to make this a craniosacral thing, but these stories are
- 26:12so wild.
- 26:12I can't even help myself.
- 26:14Okay.
- 26:15So she had me talk about the fall, how I felt guilty.
- 26:19I was worried about my son.
- 26:20I felt like a bad mom.
- 26:21I felt stupid.
- 26:22Like she had me talk through the emotional experience.
- 26:25I walked out of there, you guys, a hundred percent better.
- 26:28Could not even believe it.
- 26:30Like just that one session.
- 26:32Similarly, after my dad died, I was having trouble breathing.
- 26:35This is not uncommon grief stores in the lungs and I was with him when he died.
- 26:39So I would wake up feeling like I couldn't breathe, like I'd forgotten how to
- 26:43breathe.
- 26:43Like it was hard because of course I was with him and all the way through.
- 26:48And went to a craniosacral therapist.
- 26:51There are two ladies that I've worked with in Charlotte.
- 26:52They're both amazing.
- 26:53So if you're in this area, let me know if you want their names.
- 26:57She had me talk about my dad.
- 27:01and what he meant to me, what was great about him, what was hard in our
- 27:04relationship, what was great in our relationship, what I remembered, his
- 27:08passing.
- 27:09While she worked on primarily my heart and chest, she was just kind of helping me
- 27:19around my lungs, basically, but also up into my throat, all the places where we
- 27:23breathe.
- 27:25And I've never had an issue with breathing after that, but I cried.
- 27:29and released the emotion.
- 27:31It was very precious.
- 27:31I'm so thankful for her.
- 27:33And then the last one I'm going to share with you is I was in session just trying
- 27:41to do some self -care while we were in the middle of the childbearing years.
- 27:47And all of a sudden, this is the craziest story.
- 27:50So she's working on my back and all of a sudden she goes, oh.
- 27:52And then she gave me this really weird look and she was like, have you started
- 27:57your cycle since having your...
- 27:59your kid.
- 27:59This was after my second and I had come in for us to fix his lip tie, tongue tie
- 28:03stuff.
- 28:04I was like, no, actually not yet.
- 28:05And she goes, oh, okay.
- 28:07Well, there might be something going on there.
- 28:09Like literally a couple of days later, we found out I was pregnant with my daughter.
- 28:12And I was like, did you know?
- 28:14She's like, well, yeah.
- 28:15She was just kind of like, hi.
- 28:16Literally you guys, this was like, this baby was like a handful of weeks old.
- 28:21She was no more than six weeks old at that time.
- 28:22Isn't that crazy?
- 28:23So she knew I was pregnant before I did from craniosacral.
- 28:27So.
- 28:27That's one of my favorite self -cares.
- 28:30Adding electrolytes to your water.
- 28:32I've got one that's got minerals in it that I just love.
- 28:34It's called Revitalize.
- 28:36Dry brushing, castor oil packs, you guys, those can do so much to help bring your
- 28:41nervous system down, to get you out of fight or flight because it's helping
- 28:45detoxify the liver.
- 28:46So much of our anxiety can actually be caused by these trapped toxins.
- 28:51Like we need to be expelling for, you know, in delicate terms, okay?
- 28:56listening to audiobooks, fun books, reading fun books, not just eat your
- 29:00vegetables books.
- 29:02There's this really cool system called the Kacelia system that actually brings you
- 29:05back into proper alignment using gravity.
- 29:08Okay.
- 29:09And I have it on my website.
- 29:10So once it gets up and rolling, you can check it out there.
- 29:12Essentially you lay on this pillow system and it brings you into spinal alignment
- 29:16like a chiropractor does, but it's actually stretching the muscles.
- 29:19So you hold your shifts much better than with simple chiropractic, I personally
- 29:25think.
- 29:25Okay.
- 29:27movement.
- 29:28We talked about that.
- 29:30And then here's the last thing, and this has been such a sweet story for me.
- 29:33So I had struggled with anxiety throughout my life.
- 29:39And I always thought I was crazy, you guys.
- 29:43Within the past four or five years, somebody started talking to me about the
- 29:50importance of iodine.
- 29:52And that...
- 29:53So I started taking a high dose iodine.
- 29:55I worked with a practitioner to figure out what I needed.
- 29:58And I went from, I think I'm crazy to, oh, I think this might be chemical.
- 30:03So that brought me one step.
- 30:05And then about six months ago, I started taking this collagen.
- 30:11And I started taking it because I was like, okay, this is supposed to be really
- 30:15good for fine lines.
- 30:18It's supposed to be really good for your hair.
- 30:20I'd had some thinning hair since COVID.
- 30:23It's supposed to be great for your, like just all your organs.
- 30:27So it's a great preventative was kind of how I saw it.
- 30:29So I saw it as like a foundational health tool.
- 30:31Y 'all, all of a sudden I'm more patient.
- 30:36My mental margin has expanded.
- 30:38Brian and I's ability to work through challenging things, cause he's on it as
- 30:41well, has greatly increased.
- 30:43This particular collagen, unlike any other on the market actually mimics all, not
- 30:49mimic, sorry, I always say that word.
- 30:50That's the wrong word.
- 30:51It stimulates collagen production across all the types.
- 30:55So it's actually giving you the couple of dozen types of collagen because not only
- 31:01do you get the dose itself, which is what most, so with a collagen supplement,
- 31:05typically you get collagen.
- 31:07You take a tablespoon of collagen, you get a tablespoon of collagen.
- 31:10With this collagen, you take a tablespoon of collagen, it gives you a tablespoon of
- 31:14collagen and stimulates your body to produce its own collagen.
- 31:18Okay?
- 31:18So then you're getting that.
- 31:20as well.
- 31:20And it's also like 90 % bioavailable.
- 31:23And so it was actually helping my gut.
- 31:25And I've got friends where they have food sensitivities that they've actually been
- 31:29able to overcome because they've got this.
- 31:31The other thing I started taking is this supplement called OVA, which is an herbal
- 31:35supplement that helps balance hormones.
- 31:39And so y 'all, I went from like five years ago, it was there's something wrong with
- 31:46me.
- 31:47Got the iodine going and it was like, okay.
- 31:50I know that I think that there's something wrong with me, but that it's actually a
- 31:54chemical thing.
- 31:55And it was always like the couple of days before my cycle.
- 31:57Now there's nothing.
- 32:01Like the anxiety is gone.
- 32:02The PMS anxiety is gone.
- 32:04The discomfort during my cycle is gone.
- 32:06It's gone.
- 32:08One pill.
- 32:09So for me, like self care always felt hard and heavy.
- 32:13And now it's like one pill, one tablespoon of collagen.
- 32:18The collagen's twice a day, the pill is once a day.
- 32:21And I'm taking care of myself.
- 32:23I feel better.
- 32:24Our quality of life has improved.
- 32:26So y 'all, it doesn't have to be hard.
- 32:28It can be simple.
- 32:29It can be small.
- 32:30If you guys want information about any of the stuff I've shared with you, there's
- 32:34going to be links in the show notes.
- 32:35I've got a $25 off coupon for the collagen.
- 32:38I think you can get $20 off for a subscription for Lindy Well, like $45 off
- 32:43for the Caselia system.
- 32:44I've kind of pulled together those links for you guys so that you can get the best
- 32:47bang for your buck.
- 32:49Think about what feels like it would serve you well today.
- 32:53What does your soul need?
- 32:54What does your body need?
- 32:55What does your spirit need?
- 32:56And then take the next step, okay?
- 32:59All right, so that's today.
- 33:00Kind of practical, we're going boots on the ground, but sometimes we need these
- 33:03things.
- 33:04We forget sometimes that we're physical beings as well as spiritual beings.
- 33:07And so tend to what God has given you.
- 33:10This is actually the best way to be of service because then you are coming from a
- 33:14place of fullness instead of deficit, okay?
- 33:17All right.
- 33:18That's it for today.
- 33:19Until next time, friend, you got this.
