- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, the other end of the spectrum when it
- 0:01Speaker 1: comes to the Big Ten, we have Ohio State. Tom
- 0:05Speaker 1: said that this is the team that impressed him the
- 0:07Speaker 1: most this weekend or maybe answered some questions that we
- 0:10Speaker 1: had about them. They go into Kinnick, they get a
- 0:12Speaker 1: comfortable win on the road, and they remain unbeaten outside
- 0:17Speaker 1: of that loss at Texas. We are presented by PrizePix.
- 0:20Speaker 1: It was a Big Ten win for maybe the best
- 0:23Speaker 1: team in the Big Ten right now. We'll see in
- 0:26Speaker 1: two weeks. But, Tom, thoughts on Ohio State?
- 0:29Speaker 2: I was impressed by this a couple of reasons. Iowa,
- 0:33Speaker 2: give them a lot of credit. They gave Ohio State
- 0:36Speaker 2: problems in the first half, 17-6 at halftime. It was
- 0:40Speaker 2: a very Iowa score that you expected. But still, even
- 0:43Speaker 2: going into half, Ohio State was in control of this game,
- 0:46Speaker 2: and there really was no point where Ohio State was
- 0:49Speaker 2: truly threatened by Iowa to lose this game. Iowa just
- 0:53Speaker 2: does not have the same athletes that they've had in
- 0:57Speaker 2: the past, unfortunately, and that it's still even more impressive
- 1:00Speaker 2: to see the way Kirk Ferentz puts together a team,
- 1:02Speaker 2: puts together a defense that still at least kind of
- 1:04Speaker 2: slowed down Ohio State. But what do we learn about
- 1:07Speaker 2: Ohio State within this game? If you do not pressure
- 1:11Speaker 2: Julian Sane, he will pick you apart. And we've known
- 1:14Speaker 2: that for a little while, but this was just even
- 1:16Speaker 2: more obvious. And I love the way that Phil Parker
- 1:19Speaker 2: puts together his defense. He does a nice combination of
- 1:22Speaker 2: zone and man. It tends to lean more towards zone,
- 1:25Speaker 2: but– I don't know how you cover Jeremiah Smith consistently,
- 1:30Speaker 2: and they didn't really have an answer for the best
- 1:32Speaker 2: player in college football. I've been saying for three years
- 1:34Speaker 2: he's the best player in college football. Now people are saying, well,
- 1:37Speaker 2: you can't draft a wide receiver number one. No, you
- 1:40Speaker 2: absolutely can draft the best player in the sport for
- 1:43Speaker 2: three consecutive years at number one overall in the 2027
- 1:46Speaker 2: NFL draft. Trust me, you're allowed. Jeremiah Smith looked as advertised.
- 1:51Speaker 2: There's really nothing that Iowa's secondary was going to be
- 1:53Speaker 2: able to slow down a racehorse like that. What I
- 1:57Speaker 2: was impressed by when it came to Ohio State in
- 1:59Speaker 2: this game is, one, offensively, they're finding answers running the football. Now, Iowa,
- 2:06Speaker 2: the defensive line, it's not what it's been in years past.
- 2:09Speaker 2: I can acknowledge that. This is not the best defensive
- 2:11Speaker 2: line Ohio State is going to face this season. But
- 2:15Speaker 2: when you get Jackson and Jackson to put together roughly
- 2:18Speaker 2: 140 yards rushing and you finish the day 3.4 yards
- 2:22Speaker 2: per carry as a team, You feel pretty good about that.
- 2:26Speaker 2: It's not like the Judkins-Henderson backfield where you had so
- 2:29Speaker 2: much pop and explosivity. You just have consistency with a
- 2:33Speaker 2: pair of dudes in Jackson and Jackson, Bowe and Jacoby,
- 2:35Speaker 2: excuse me, who are very competent running backs, and they're
- 2:39Speaker 2: doing the job at this point. Julian Sam was able
- 2:42Speaker 2: to find other targets other than Jeremiah Smith, but you
- 2:45Speaker 2: still found number four 11 times 206 yards receiving and
- 2:50Speaker 2: two touchdowns. It's like I've had for a couple of
- 2:53Speaker 2: weeks now, Arthur Smith is executing an offense that is
- 2:57Speaker 2: reminiscent of the Detroit Lions when it was Stafford and
- 3:00Speaker 2: Calvin Johnson. You're going to force feed your number one target.
- 3:03Speaker 2: You could see them go to Jeremiah Smith and got
- 3:06Speaker 2: to have it moments. And it didn't always work out
- 3:09Speaker 2: and get into a conversion or something like that or
- 3:11Speaker 2: a big play. It's something they're going to have to
- 3:14Speaker 2: find answers to as the season goes on. It's like, hey,
- 3:17Speaker 2: everybody in the building knows you're going to number four.
- 3:20Speaker 2: So how can you scheme around that? How can you
- 3:22Speaker 2: bait your opponents going on this season? And I think
- 3:25Speaker 2: Arthur Smith is going to be able to do that.
- 3:27Speaker 2: And I give my hats off to Matt Patricia. We
- 3:30Speaker 2: talked about it throughout the offseason, guys, how many NFL
- 3:33Speaker 2: draft picks went from this defense in the first round alone.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And there were five All-Americans you had to replace.
- 3:39Speaker 2: So start there. They have not exactly completely duplicated those
- 3:45Speaker 2: missing pieces, but they're pretty close. So credit to Matt
- 3:48Speaker 2: Patricia getting this team up to speed quickly. Iowa, did
- 3:52Speaker 2: they have the athletes? in the running game or in
- 3:56Speaker 2: the passing game, to really threaten them at quarterback, especially
- 3:59Speaker 2: like you're handcuffed when you can't throw the football. That's
- 4:02Speaker 2: the tough part about Iowa. But still, I thought Ohio
- 4:05Speaker 2: State put together a really nice effort in this game.
- 4:08Speaker 2: All around, they've been very consistent. The game against Illinois, again, yes,
- 4:12Speaker 2: I get it, lesser competition, but they look head and
- 4:14Speaker 2: shoulders better than everybody else in the Big Ten, and
- 4:18Speaker 2: I believe in the country.
- 4:19Speaker 3: Hey, Tom, can you do me a favor and tell
- 4:21Speaker 3: me what was the total number of yards Jeremiah Smith had?
- 4:25Speaker 2: 206 receiving. Yeah, 206. Right.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Yeah, okay, so he had 86% of the entire total
- 4:35Speaker 3: amount of yards that Iowa had as a team. How
- 4:39Speaker 3: do you stop it? I mean, honestly, by the way,
- 4:42Speaker 3: Phil Parker.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I love you. Pray?
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah, pray. Because God could maybe do it.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I'll be back to Alpha Light. I think God could
- 4:50Speaker 2: do it.
- 4:51Speaker 3: The other guy could do it, too, if you really
- 4:53Speaker 3: want to go that way.
- 4:54Speaker 2: If you want to go dark, he could do it, too.
- 4:57Speaker 3: Look, be honest for a second.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Phil Parker, I love you, bud.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I think that you're one of the best defensive minds
- 5:01Speaker 3: of our generation, and you've been a master out in
- 5:04Speaker 3: Iowa City. At what point do you say, dude, zone
- 5:07Speaker 3: ain't working? We gotta play man. We have to play man.
- 5:11Speaker 3: That's the only way we're gonna shut him down.
- 5:13Speaker 2: You wanna know why?
- 5:14Speaker 3: Because when you play zone, here's what you're saying. We're
- 5:16Speaker 3: gonna play prevent defense. We're gonna keep everything in front
- 5:19Speaker 3: of us and we're not gonna let him burn us
- 5:20Speaker 3: over the top. Oh wait, we forgot defense. This isn't
- 5:24Speaker 3: a human. This is a literal alien that somehow was
- 5:28Speaker 3: planted down in Columbus, Ohio after spending time where he
- 5:32Speaker 3: said Miami, Florida. We all know that's a counterpoint for
- 5:36Speaker 3: somewhere out in space. And he's just going to terrorize
- 5:38Speaker 3: us as an individual. Oh, look, he's 50 yards downfield
- 5:41Speaker 3: running past us when we're playing zone. So we might
- 5:44Speaker 3: as well play man to shut him down and blitz
- 5:47Speaker 3: the hell out of Julian saying if we want to
- 5:49Speaker 3: have success, Because I hate to be the bearer of
- 5:51Speaker 3: bad news. Guys, whether or not you want to say
- 5:53Speaker 3: he is a product of what you have at wide receiver,
- 5:57Speaker 3: Julian Sane's accurate in zone coverage. Julian Sane makes the
- 6:00Speaker 3: right reads. Julian Sane has a touch on the football.
- 6:03Speaker 3: Julian Sane does not miss. He's a surgeon back there.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Just make him play after play after play, and it's
- 6:09Speaker 3: a breeze for him. And that's what I think is
- 6:11Speaker 3: going to be so lethal about this Ohio State team
- 6:13Speaker 3: moving forward. There are other opponents that will have an
- 6:15Speaker 3: opportunity to take a shot at Jeremiah Smith and shut
- 6:18Speaker 3: them down. You got Oregon still ahead. You still got
- 6:20Speaker 3: games against Indiana. But, I mean, Phil Parker is a
- 6:24Speaker 3: mastermind when it comes to defense. And I know you
- 6:25Speaker 3: don't have the Chimneys and the Joes this year to
- 6:27Speaker 3: go toe-to-toe with, I think, a Jeremiah Smith.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'll get right back to this clip from The Power 2,
- 6:32Speaker 1: our live show on college football addiction. But first, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: want to tell you about the PrizePix app. We appreciate
- 6:37Speaker 1: PrizePix for their support. You can play $ 5 there with
- 6:40Speaker 1: the code HMA, and all new users who win their
- 6:42Speaker 1: first $ 5 lineup get $ 150 in lineups instantly if they
- 6:48Speaker 1: use that code. Again, HMA. Give me the more on
- 6:51Speaker 1: Bajon Robinson's touchdowns. It's set at. 5. Cole, Tom, and
- 6:54Speaker 1: I all picked this, which you should go do as well.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Give me the more on Tyler Shuck's passing yards, 254.5.
- 7:03Speaker 1: We appreciate prize picks for their support. Now back to
- 7:06Speaker 1: the clip of the Power 2.
- 7:08Speaker 3: But the point is that you made no adjustments, and
- 7:10Speaker 3: it was clear as day. The score was 35-6. Can
- 7:14Speaker 3: we be honest for a second? The score says 31-14.
- 7:19Speaker 3: It was 31-6. The Jeremy Holinsky touchdown late, that was
- 7:22Speaker 3: garbage time. You had them in a blender. And to
- 7:25Speaker 3: Tom's credit, you shut down the rushing attack, which I
- 7:28Speaker 3: thought was very promising in this game. You made them
- 7:31Speaker 3: such a one-dimensional offense that Hank Brown is going to
- 7:33Speaker 3: have to beat us, which we know he can't. and
- 7:36Speaker 3: we're going to make them do a lot of three
- 7:38Speaker 3: and out, be ugly football, and we're going to take
- 7:40Speaker 3: our shots and our advantages, and we're going to play
- 7:42Speaker 3: our brand, and it's going to end up being a
- 7:44Speaker 3: reason why we walk out of Kinnick Stadium with a
- 7:46Speaker 3: double-digit victory when most teams that come on in here
- 7:50Speaker 3: end up struggling at times. Be honest for a second.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Outside of the fourth quarter of the Texas game, has
- 7:56Speaker 3: there been a more complete team in college football this
- 7:58Speaker 3: year than Ohio State? It's not against the best competition,
- 8:01Speaker 3: but just looking at it, that's the only answer, guys.
- 8:04Speaker 3: And credit where credit's due to Texas. I'm never going
- 8:07Speaker 3: to take away a bona fide win that you fought
- 8:11Speaker 3: back in. Because they did. Texas fought back. But at
- 8:15Speaker 3: the same time, it was the single worst quarter we
- 8:17Speaker 3: have seen from Ohio State this year. And it's why
- 8:19Speaker 3: they're sitting at 5-4-1. Not a 5-0.
- 8:22Speaker 2: That's it.
- 8:23Speaker 3: They looked apart. And they're going to look apart against
- 8:25Speaker 3: everybody else. They have a studded quarterback. They know how
- 8:28Speaker 3: to run the football. They're going to give up points.
- 8:31Speaker 3: Let's be real. That defense, for as good as it
- 8:33Speaker 3: was on Friday, I mean on Saturday... it is going
- 8:36Speaker 3: to give up points against other opponents. But they're in
- 8:39Speaker 3: a realm of like Alabama and Georgia. It's going to
- 8:41Speaker 3: take a special team to knock them down. I don't
- 8:44Speaker 3: know if there is a special team right now in
- 8:46Speaker 3: the Big Ten that can go toe-to-toe with what we
- 8:48Speaker 3: see from Ohio State when they're playing on their P's
- 8:50Speaker 3: and Q's.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Jeremiah Smith took the lead in the Heisman. Malachi Toney
- 8:56Speaker 1: had a big play called back that I think was
- 8:58Speaker 1: a rough call. But his stats weren't overly impressive on
- 9:02Speaker 1: the road at Clemson this week. He's splitting... touches with
- 9:06Speaker 1: Cooper bar Kate, and he's also splitting votes with Darren Mensah.
- 9:10Speaker 1: And so Jeremiah Smith could be your, uh, eventual Heisman
- 9:14Speaker 1: trophy winner.
- 9:14Speaker 2: We'll see.
- 9:15Speaker 1: They've got a game at, uh, Indiana in two weeks.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And it's certainly that we'll get some attention and he'll
- 9:22Speaker 1: have an opportunity to, uh, to make up for kind
- 9:26Speaker 1: of how last year's game went for, for Ohio state
- 9:28Speaker 1: where they scored, which is the 10 points.
- 9:30Speaker 3: So, um, but yeah, they're insane. The right answer. by
- 9:35Speaker 3: the way, for Heisman.
- 9:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it changes every week. We were talking about Trinidad
- 9:40Speaker 2: a few weeks ago after the LSU game. We were
- 9:42Speaker 2: talking about Kamario Taylor, and then they ran into Bama.
- 9:44Speaker 2: By the way, Keelan Russell also is somebody. Who was
- 9:47Speaker 2: the person in the offseason, by the way, said that
- 9:50Speaker 2: whomever wins the quarterback battle at Alabama should be in
- 9:52Speaker 2: the Heisman? Oh, it was this guy. It was the
- 9:55Speaker 2: Penn State homer. I don't know. He doesn't know what
- 9:58Speaker 2: he's doing. He doesn't know college football. was also giving
- 10:00Speaker 2: a lot of faith in Austin Mack, because I think
- 10:02Speaker 2: Austin Mack would probably do just fine starting somewhere in
- 10:05Speaker 2: major college football. But no, dude, honestly, looking at Ohio State,
- 10:09Speaker 2: the remainder of their schedule, I understand. Yeah, the Indiana
- 10:12Speaker 2: game on the road, of course, hosting Oregon on November 7th.
- 10:16Speaker 2: I think the Michigan game at the end of the year,
- 10:19Speaker 2: in terms of offense versus defense, Ohio State's offense versus
- 10:22Speaker 2: an opposing defense, that's the one that I would be
- 10:25Speaker 2: worried about because Michigan, I think, is the best defense
- 10:28Speaker 2: remaining on this schedule for Ohio State. So is Ohio
- 10:32Speaker 2: State able to get to the Michigan game and only
- 10:35Speaker 2: have the one loss on their schedule, having lost to Texas?
- 10:38Speaker 2: Because then it's just, hey, like, say you lose to Michigan. OK,
- 10:43Speaker 2: it hurts emotionally, but you'll still make the Big Ten
- 10:45Speaker 2: title game. You'll still make the college football playoff. This
- 10:48Speaker 2: is a team that's just got to take care of
- 10:49Speaker 2: business during the regular season, which I have every faith
- 10:51Speaker 2: they will. And then when you get into the playoff, Cole,
- 10:54Speaker 2: it's just a matter of you're going to run into
- 10:56Speaker 2: other super heavyweights. And they're going to be super heavyweight,
- 10:58Speaker 2: knock down, drag out fights where somebody puts 35 on
- 11:01Speaker 2: the board, win in advance. That's all they're going to
- 11:04Speaker 2: care about at that point.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Well, yeah, but if you are anybody playing Ohio State,
- 11:07Speaker 3: here's the first phone call you make. It's to Will
- 11:09Speaker 3: Muschamp and say, what'd you do in the second half
- 11:11Speaker 3: of that Texas game to shut him down? Then the
- 11:13Speaker 3: next phone call you make is Corey Heatherman, who shut
- 11:15Speaker 3: him down in the matchup against Miami in the playoff
- 11:19Speaker 3: last season. Hey, what'd you do to shut him down?
- 11:21Speaker 3: And you call those two, and you get as much
- 11:23Speaker 3: film on them as possible, and you say, fine, if
- 11:25Speaker 3: we're going to lose this football game, it ain't because
- 11:28Speaker 3: four is killing us. We'll take our lumps and bruises,
- 11:31Speaker 3: and we will go down swinging. but it will be
- 11:33Speaker 3: because somebody else stepped on up. Because I'm sorry, like
- 11:36Speaker 3: at this point, what do you want me to say? Like, yeah,
- 11:39Speaker 3: I can mention Camario, and I can say Trey Dadd,
- 11:41Speaker 3: and there's definitely going to be cases for Darian Mensah,
- 11:44Speaker 3: and I still think that Keelan Russell is going to
- 11:46Speaker 3: have an opportunity, especially this weekend. But there's also a
- 11:49Speaker 3: letdown spot for every single person in college football. You
- 11:52Speaker 3: want to know who I don't think is ever going
- 11:53Speaker 3: to have a letdown spot? Jeremiah Smith. I just don't
- 11:56Speaker 3: see it at this point. This could have been the game,
- 11:59Speaker 3: and it's like, nope, just cool 200 yards. Two touchdowns,
- 12:03Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Get over it.
- 12:06Speaker 1: The only thing I worry about with Smith is, one,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it's a quarterback award. Two, if his Heisman moments come
- 12:14Speaker 1: too early. Now, the other problem is that he has
- 12:16Speaker 1: Heisman moments like every single weekend. But if Michigan's a
- 12:20Speaker 1: 6-5 team at the end of the year, does that
- 12:24Speaker 1: get the same kind of shine that Darian Minson going
- 12:26Speaker 1: and throwing four touchdowns in South Bend does? Does that
- 12:29Speaker 1: vault him up? If Bama was to go 13-0, they're
- 12:34Speaker 1: giving it to an Alabama quarterback that goes 13-0. Unless
- 12:37Speaker 1: maybe Jeremiah Smith is 13-0 as well, or his numbers
- 12:40Speaker 1: remain ridiculous. I think one thing you guys are maybe...
- 12:46Speaker 1: He's the best player. He should win the award, hands down.
- 12:49Speaker 1: You're underestimating the amount of a quarterback award that it
- 12:52Speaker 1: is with your... Your analysis is right, but... Our analysis
- 12:57Speaker 1: is underestimating what the voters will do by giving it
- 13:00Speaker 1: to Mensah or Russell or whichever quarterback's 13-0. Which is wrong,
- 13:06Speaker 1: but I'm just telling you, that's how it's going to
- 13:08Speaker 1: play out.
- 13:08Speaker 3: You know what we're doing? We're giving too much benefit
- 13:10Speaker 3: of the doubt to the damn voters who don't watch
- 13:12Speaker 3: college football, who don't pay attention to college football, who've
- 13:14Speaker 3: had a vote and have gotten out of the industry
- 13:16Speaker 3: for the last four decades, and yet they won't change
- 13:19Speaker 3: the system on how to go ahead and get a vote,
- 13:21Speaker 3: but they'll say, oh, pretty quarterback with nice little logo.
- 13:24Speaker 3: That guy better than this guy.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Idiots.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Sorry for my rant. I'm very annoyed that I'm not
- 13:29Speaker 3: on the Heisman voting odds, but there's two people that
- 13:32Speaker 3: I know that work concurrently in construction. They're out of
- 13:35Speaker 3: the industry, and they have a Heisman vote.
- 13:37Speaker 2: What are you doing?
