- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, guys, he is there, he is, I'm well, how
- 0:07Speaker 1: are you well?
- 0:08Speaker 2: You know, the world spins madly on.
- 0:11Speaker 1: It does spin madly on, and at a furious pace too.
- 0:14Speaker 2: It just keeps going and uh and you just keep
- 0:18Speaker 2: moving forward.
- 0:20Speaker 1: And that's all you can do. Really. You know, what's
- 0:22Speaker 1: past it a Kuna matata lion King says it best.
- 0:25Speaker 1: What's in the past is the past. Let's talk about
- 0:28Speaker 1: moving forward into the future and making it so that
- 0:33Speaker 1: the past never All the negative things I should say
- 0:36Speaker 1: in the past never repeat themselves.
- 0:39Speaker 2: The planet spins, and the world spins madly on.
- 0:44Speaker 1: Joel Dan, how are you guys? You know, I've realized
- 0:46Speaker 1: that when I log on, we usually just jump right
- 0:49Speaker 1: into the show and I never really get the opportunity
- 0:52Speaker 1: to ask you, guys, how are you doing? How are
- 0:53Speaker 1: you holding up?
- 0:55Speaker 3: Well?
- 0:58Speaker 1: It's good.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Hill Inside. Sleep is a myth. There's no such thing
- 1:03Speaker 4: asleep anymore. Insundia a full full force. Other than that,
- 1:08Speaker 4: you know, it's it's good. I was able to leave
- 1:12Speaker 4: the house. I went to a drive in. Have you
- 1:13Speaker 4: guys been to the mission?
- 1:14Speaker 5: Hill Tiki?
- 1:15Speaker 6: Drive in?
- 1:15Speaker 3: No, No, listen.
- 1:17Speaker 1: If you need to get out and you want to
- 1:18Speaker 1: see a movie. That's the place to do it.
- 1:21Speaker 4: They've got like all these old like burger joint stands
- 1:23Speaker 4: around there, so you can like pick up some food
- 1:24Speaker 4: through drive through, drive straight into the drive through. It's
- 1:27Speaker 4: a bunch of like billboards that are sectioned off. And
- 1:30Speaker 4: we saw a double feature of Jaws and Tremors.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Nice well Jaws, yes, Tremors. It was okay, Yeah, it's okay. Jaws. However,
- 1:42Speaker 1: still to this day, even though the shark doesn't look
- 1:45Speaker 1: that real, it still works.
- 1:48Speaker 7: Yeah, the whole opening the beach early, like the beaches
- 1:52Speaker 7: are safe right right, everybody.
- 1:55Speaker 1: It's a very surreal rewatch in these.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Dan.
- 1:59Speaker 1: How about you? How you?
- 2:00Speaker 7: I'm good?
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm well.
- 2:02Speaker 7: I had to take my take my girlfriend to the
- 2:05Speaker 7: airport this morning very early to help her brother get
- 2:08Speaker 7: out of or move out of college. But she's doing
- 2:10Speaker 7: a good thing. And yeah, so all good, Ready for
- 2:15Speaker 7: a great show.
- 2:16Speaker 1: What's that line from when Harry met Sally? You know,
- 2:18Speaker 1: I never take a girl to the airport because then
- 2:21Speaker 1: to they expect things out of you, and then later
- 2:22Speaker 1: on you're what they then later on.
- 2:26Speaker 2: Then later on, I never do airport drops. I don't
- 2:30Speaker 2: I don't walk with airport.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Drops because then later on she says, you, how come
- 2:33Speaker 1: you never take me to the airport anymore? Just say
- 2:40Speaker 1: goodbye at home.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't take too or pick up from airport
- 2:43Speaker 2: as a rule.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Okay, I did it. I did it quite a bit
- 2:48Speaker 1: when Casey and I first started data. Now I'm like,
- 2:50Speaker 1: you know what, I'll get you a car service.
- 2:52Speaker 6: Yeah, it'll be so much.
- 2:53Speaker 2: I'd rather get you a really nice car service. He'll
- 2:56Speaker 2: probably have mints.
- 2:57Speaker 3: Right, and.
- 3:00Speaker 1: A clean car.
- 3:02Speaker 2: She but, but Florence has a hang up about it.
- 3:04Speaker 2: She really finds it rude. So I'm gonna I have
- 3:07Speaker 2: a feeling it's going to be changing because she thinks
- 3:10Speaker 2: that it's bullshit.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I'm telling you, once you stop doing it, she's gonna
- 3:14Speaker 1: ask you, how come you never take me to the
- 3:15Speaker 1: airport anymore?
- 3:16Speaker 2: I know. But see, Lax is so fucking far. I mean,
- 3:19Speaker 2: I'm sure a lot of listeners may live closer to
- 3:22Speaker 2: their airport than we do. It takes like over an
- 3:25Speaker 2: hour to get to LAX. It's a lot.
- 3:26Speaker 7: It's a mission every time.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And then you have to deal with the traffic of
- 3:29Speaker 4: that long circle around.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Hell, you know what you do, I'm gonna give everyone
- 3:32Speaker 2: a little Well, I shouldn't give my secret never mind. Sorry, No,
- 3:37Speaker 2: I was gonna give you. I was going to give.
- 3:40Speaker 1: I was going.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I was going to give people of LA a life hack,
- 3:43Speaker 2: But now I don't know if I should because they're
- 3:44Speaker 2: all going to steal it and use it.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Listen, just do it. You'll be a hero if you
- 3:50Speaker 1: do it.
- 3:50Speaker 2: All right, you guys, don't tell anyone. I know that
- 3:53Speaker 2: there's a preposterous amount of people listening right now, But
- 3:55Speaker 2: don't tell anyone. This is just for you. Do not
- 3:58Speaker 2: tell your friends when you live in LA. If you
- 4:02Speaker 2: live in a life, you don't live in LA and
- 4:03Speaker 2: you come here, you're not allowed to do this ship.
- 4:05Speaker 3: This is La.
- 4:07Speaker 2: You go when you're dropping off. You go to arrivals,
- 4:12Speaker 2: not departures. There's never nearly as long a line at arrivals, brilliant,
- 4:18Speaker 2: and all you got to do is take the escalator
- 4:21Speaker 2: up or down whatever it is.
- 4:22Speaker 3: M M.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Now I regret telling everyone that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: Are you a genius?
- 4:26Speaker 6: Sack?
- 4:28Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on.
- 4:29Speaker 2: I regret this already. It's a mistake. It's a mistake.
- 4:32Speaker 2: My life hack is ruined. Now.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I feel like a lot of people already knew this life.
- 4:37Speaker 2: No, they don't. You don't do it, did you know it?
- 4:40Speaker 8: Yeah?
- 4:40Speaker 1: Absolutely? And when you get picked up you go upstairs to.
- 4:44Speaker 9: Freaking depart yep, yep, yeah, man, I.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Never do it.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Was such a problem that Uber won't let you do
- 4:52Speaker 7: it anymore. You can say, hey, will you drop me
- 4:54Speaker 7: off at arrivals, They'll say, no, we can't do that.
- 4:55Speaker 7: They're gonna give us a ticket if we do that.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Oh, I didn't know. It was like a ticketed things.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So don't get in trouble because of me.
- 5:01Speaker 7: But only only ubers get ticketed. Only ubers get ticketed
- 5:04Speaker 7: if you're driving, if you were if you're doing a
- 5:05Speaker 7: service for a friend. That's a really good life hack.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Okay, there you go. Life hack everybody always when you
- 5:10Speaker 2: do it, I want you when you do it and
- 5:12Speaker 2: it goes smoothly, I want you to smile and think
- 5:14Speaker 2: of me.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Should we get into the show.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Well, we have a very special guest today, Donald.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I know, I'm really excited about it. That's why I
- 5:22Speaker 1: want to get into that.
- 5:23Speaker 2: I can see that you're all geeked out. We never
- 5:27Speaker 2: thought Ken Jenkins would would come on the show, not
- 5:30Speaker 2: because he's difficult in any way. I just didn't know
- 5:32Speaker 2: if he'd know how to do the zoom and the
- 5:34Speaker 2: recording and all of that. But we're so lucky that
- 5:37Speaker 2: his son helped him navigate it all and and and
- 5:42Speaker 2: and as he here, Dan, is he ready to come
- 5:43Speaker 2: in the room, ready to go? I'm kind of nervous, Dole.
- 5:46Speaker 2: I haven't seen him in a long time.
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'm so excited. Last time I saw him was when
- 5:50Speaker 1: we did that thing at UH at the Roosevelt Hotel.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Yeah where I also where doesn't he have no kids?
- 6:00Speaker 1: Happened also in the same in the same at the
- 6:03Speaker 1: same beIN not the same venue, but the same same building.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Building doesn't have like nine kids. Casey said that about
- 6:10Speaker 2: Donald in the bar, which was at the time was
- 6:13Speaker 2: called Teddy's and.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I think it still is.
- 6:15Speaker 2: And then we had sort of a Scrubs reunion event
- 6:19Speaker 2: for what was it for? I don't even remember.
- 6:21Speaker 1: I don't know, and uh and we were.
- 6:23Speaker 2: All there, same building, same building.
- 6:25Speaker 1: I love that bowling alley in the room.
- 6:27Speaker 2: There's a cool little bowling alley. Do you ever visit
- 6:29Speaker 2: la just after you've arrived at the airport and driven
- 6:32Speaker 2: an hour? Are we gonna ask him about Ganja? Or
- 6:36Speaker 2: if you're not bring that up.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I mean, I think I feel like we can ask
- 6:40Speaker 1: about it. If he doesn't want to talk about it,
- 6:42Speaker 1: we don't. He doesn't have to talk about it.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I know, But I mean, I'm just one wanted to
- 6:46Speaker 2: just pregame with you if we're going to bring up
- 6:47Speaker 2: his love of Ganja.
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm just saying, man, he gave me a Kodak Remember
- 6:51Speaker 1: when Kodak film used to come in those little cases.
- 6:54Speaker 2: The black canister thing.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Yeah, he gave me a canister full of seeds once
- 6:59Speaker 1: and it was like when you plant these now? And
- 7:02Speaker 1: I didn't plant them, and I look for this Kodak
- 7:06Speaker 1: thing at somewhere lost in.
- 7:08Speaker 2: All the morow.
- 7:11Speaker 1: But still, dude, they were like a lot of seeds
- 7:13Speaker 1: and he was like, you gotta plant them all? But
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was like, you gotta explain. Wait, Dan's eyes got
- 7:17Speaker 1: really big, Dan, will they still grow? A treat?
- 7:21Speaker 10: You?
- 7:21Speaker 2: Question I want answered is who was high more often
- 7:25Speaker 2: on set? Donald or Ken Jenkins?
- 7:28Speaker 1: I bet you it's Ken Jenkins.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Okay, let's go to the videotape.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Okay, hold on, here we go ahead, five six, seven,
- 7:35Speaker 1: eight stories.
- 7:37Speaker 2: About sure we made about a bunch of tops and nurses, and.
- 7:44Speaker 9: I said, he's a story news. So YadA round here,
- 7:52Speaker 9: yeada here.
- 7:59Speaker 2: There, Yes, hello handsome.
- 8:04Speaker 6: Waving your hands.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Hello, there you are? You can you see us?
- 8:10Speaker 6: Hey, Jackie, how you doing? Hi, Buddy, good to see you.
- 8:15Speaker 1: It's good to see you.
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's great to see old.
- 8:19Speaker 6: Hello, sir. Hello, man.
- 8:25Speaker 2: We're so glad you're doing this.
- 8:26Speaker 3: Ken.
- 8:26Speaker 2: We really miss you and we really wanted to have
- 8:29Speaker 2: you on the show.
- 8:30Speaker 6: Well, I'm glad you asked me. I'm glad to be here.
- 8:33Speaker 6: What's that Donald's got all over his face?
- 8:35Speaker 1: This is hair?
- 8:37Speaker 3: You know.
- 8:37Speaker 1: I couldn't grow it hair.
- 8:43Speaker 6: That looks great.
- 8:46Speaker 1: It took me all pandemic to grow this.
- 8:49Speaker 6: Now listen, does that help your ball game?
- 8:51Speaker 3: No?
- 8:52Speaker 1: My ball game is not existent now I'm not playing golf.
- 8:55Speaker 1: My golf game. It helps tremendously.
- 8:57Speaker 6: I bet you're a wonderful golfer.
- 9:00Speaker 1: I'm all right, I'm all right. I'm getting the hang
- 9:04Speaker 1: of it now, you know what I mean?
- 9:05Speaker 2: You got are pretty good. You went from zero to hero.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I mean when I first saw you play, we were
- 9:10Speaker 2: together and neither one of us knew what the hell
- 9:11Speaker 2: we were doing. And then you got what's your handicap,
- 9:13Speaker 2: isn't that what you ask someone?
- 9:15Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 9:15Speaker 1: My handicaps now is seven point nine.
- 9:18Speaker 2: That's pretty good.
- 9:19Speaker 6: That's realistic.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. I can at municipal courses, I
- 9:24Speaker 1: should say, when we go country club and play country
- 9:27Speaker 1: club golf, it jumps up, you know, quite a bit.
- 9:30Speaker 1: But for municipal golf courses so far, seven point nine.
- 9:35Speaker 6: That's wonderful. Good for you.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Thank you? Now?
- 9:37Speaker 11: Were you?
- 9:38Speaker 1: Were you a golfer?
- 9:39Speaker 6: I never played golf in my life until we did
- 9:42Speaker 6: that episode out there on the Hill and.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Ken, you looked good on that episode. Donald and I
- 9:46Speaker 2: were talking about how you look like you knew what
- 9:47Speaker 2: you were doing.
- 9:48Speaker 6: You know, that's what they call it acting.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Because I told Donald, I said when I did it,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I could not do it. Edited me together. But we
- 10:01Speaker 2: were talking about Johnny c is a golfer, and he
- 10:03Speaker 2: of course looked great, but we were like, Ken looks
- 10:05Speaker 2: like he knew what he was doing.
- 10:08Speaker 6: Total fraud, fraud.
- 10:10Speaker 2: You sold the hell.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Out of it.
- 10:12Speaker 2: How are you? How is how are you doing in
- 10:14Speaker 2: this crazy time when we're all trapped in our houses?
- 10:17Speaker 2: How are you holding up?
- 10:18Speaker 6: Well? We're doing great, Catherine and I say, our lives
- 10:22Speaker 6: inside didn't change very much. We were doing a lot,
- 10:27Speaker 6: and we embarked on reading books to each other, books
- 10:31Speaker 6: that we had said we'd read, and then you'd ask
- 10:34Speaker 6: a question like, yeah, well what do you remember about it? Nothing?
- 10:40Speaker 6: So we started reading big books. Vanity Fair. Now seven
- 10:47Speaker 6: hundred pages of Vanity Fair.
- 10:48Speaker 2: And you read it out loud to each other.
- 10:50Speaker 6: Yes, yes, And now we're seven eighths of the way through,
- 10:54Speaker 6: Moby Dick and I think we're only four people in
- 10:58Speaker 6: the world have ever read it out loud to each other,
- 11:01Speaker 6: and we're about to finish it.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I think that's very romantic.
- 11:05Speaker 1: That's a big book, Moby Dick.
- 11:07Speaker 6: Yeah. I use it as a step letter when I'm
- 11:09Speaker 6: not really.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Ken You've always been. You always struck me as a romantic.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Well I'm romantic, yeah, I mean I used to be.
- 11:22Speaker 6: Now it's just a lot more passive.
- 11:24Speaker 2: You know, it's funny because in the in the episode,
- 11:30Speaker 2: I was trying to think as I was watching this episode.
- 11:34Speaker 2: You know, it feels like in some episodes Kelso is
- 11:36Speaker 2: so smitten and in love with Enid, his his wife,
- 11:39Speaker 2: and then in other episodes he's so dismisses of her.
- 11:42Speaker 2: You know, It goes back and forth. There's episodes where
- 11:45Speaker 2: he's just like singing old love songs he used to
- 11:47Speaker 2: sing to her, and then there's other episodes where he's
- 11:50Speaker 2: just like, Oh, she drives me crazy. I can't stand Enid.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I wonder if you thought what you thought about if Kelso,
- 11:56Speaker 2: what his feelings for Enid were.
- 11:58Speaker 6: You know, it's funny, isn't that You watching the show
- 12:01Speaker 6: develop over all the years, and Bill would say every year, well,
- 12:05Speaker 6: we're going to give you a real life can don't
- 12:07Speaker 6: worry man. So you never knew what to play is
- 12:14Speaker 6: how do you feel about the wife? And I don't know.
- 12:18Speaker 6: I think it was very complex that we had developed.
- 12:20Speaker 6: It was very complex, but he had aside. The one
- 12:24Speaker 6: time I thought we really got into what Kelso felt
- 12:28Speaker 6: about love was when Nurse Roberts died and there's that
- 12:33Speaker 6: moment when I'm in the room with her and I
- 12:38Speaker 6: think you're looking through the glass and I just bend
- 12:41Speaker 6: over and give her this tiny little kiss, and you
- 12:46Speaker 6: knew there was something there that but all the wise cracking,
- 12:51Speaker 6: and then this episode we're doing today, the smart ass
- 12:54Speaker 6: stuff that beneath all that there was something really deep
- 12:59Speaker 6: and human underful bonding.
- 13:01Speaker 1: I was going to ask you that, did you think
- 13:03Speaker 1: Kelso at one point? I mean, it's clear that he
- 13:06Speaker 1: obviously was a really great doctor. To get the chief
- 13:11Speaker 1: of medicine job, he had to not only be at
- 13:13Speaker 1: the hospital for a while, but he had to do
- 13:15Speaker 1: good work. You don't get that job just because of
- 13:18Speaker 1: being there for a long time. Do you think somewhere
- 13:21Speaker 1: along the line Kelso was broken and that's why he
- 13:24Speaker 1: became the ballbuster and and someone who was just all
- 13:33Speaker 1: about insurance and that was it. Do you think at
- 13:35Speaker 1: some point, you know Kelso was like, you know what,
- 13:39Speaker 1: everything that I've been doing? Because you're right, he does
- 13:41Speaker 1: have so many lovable moments throughout the series. Yeah, you
- 13:46Speaker 1: know the Tuscaloosa Heart episode where he's singing to his
- 13:50Speaker 1: his the love of his life and it turns out
- 13:53Speaker 1: to be Enid. You know the fact that he's definitely
- 13:57Speaker 1: willing to give out rewards and stuff like that. He
- 14:02Speaker 1: just doesn't want everybody to come and ask him over
- 14:05Speaker 1: and over again for things. So I'm asking, at some point,
- 14:08Speaker 1: do you think he was broken?
- 14:11Speaker 6: I don't know about that, but I think what he
- 14:15Speaker 6: did learn, as all doctors seem to learn and especially
- 14:19Speaker 6: right now in all this COVID mess, what what the
- 14:22Speaker 6: what they have to see daily, and the front line
- 14:25Speaker 6: workers have to see daily, what they have to do
- 14:29Speaker 6: is put their feelings somewhere else. Uh and and and
- 14:33Speaker 6: go on with the job. And I think in Kelso's
- 14:37Speaker 6: position as an administrator, what happens with your feelings is
- 14:41Speaker 6: you crust them over. You just develop a rind on
- 14:45Speaker 6: the outside of it. Someone dies and you go on.
- 14:49Speaker 6: Another person dies and you go on, because you have
- 14:54Speaker 6: to keep going there.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Someone, someone in his someone in his position, you think,
- 14:58Speaker 2: has to just develop a rhyme, like you said, in
- 15:01Speaker 2: order to try and run that place, especially you know,
- 15:04Speaker 2: keep in mind that Sacred Heart was meant to be
- 15:07Speaker 2: a poorer city hospital that didn't have a lot of resources.
- 15:10Speaker 2: So he, you know, in his defense, he was trying
- 15:13Speaker 2: to keep the doors open to the place. You know.
- 15:14Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, I think that's I think that's right. And
- 15:19Speaker 6: I'm sure you're right, Donald, in the sense that he
- 15:22Speaker 6: was probably idealistic in the same way Turk and JD
- 15:25Speaker 6: are idealistic. They're young, they have a mission, they think
- 15:29Speaker 6: well of themselves, they're looking at their future. Kelso was
- 15:32Speaker 6: young once yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Years ago, Hey, Ken, I wanted to say that you
- 15:39Speaker 2: Bill wrote you sort of one note in the beginning.
- 15:41Speaker 2: You know, if you look at the pilot, he's just
- 15:43Speaker 2: sort of like the bad guy. He literally has like
- 15:45Speaker 2: the blood, the blood, red eyes, and there's a devil.
- 15:49Speaker 2: And then and then as we're seeing now come and
- 15:52Speaker 2: and you played it so wonderfully, Ken, You're just you're
- 15:54Speaker 2: so you're so amazing, You're so funny, and you're so wonderful.
- 15:58Speaker 2: And but my point was that now in season two,
- 16:01Speaker 2: which we just started, you're getting to see where Bill
- 16:04Speaker 2: really starts to start to give him lots more layers.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I think, yeah, didn't you feel that way. I felt
- 16:10Speaker 2: like in season one there was so much to tackle,
- 16:12Speaker 2: and of course they're setting up the young, the young
- 16:14Speaker 2: wide eyed interns and their relationships and everything, and Kelsa
- 16:18Speaker 2: was just like the bad guy. And now I start
- 16:20Speaker 2: to see it. Of course, I know that this goes
- 16:22Speaker 2: throughout the nine years that you really start to see
- 16:26Speaker 2: it develop.
- 16:28Speaker 6: I didn't remember that it happened this soon. My memory
- 16:32Speaker 6: of season one is being God, I'm over the top
- 16:35Speaker 6: on every scene I'm doing. I hated it. I hated
- 16:40Speaker 6: everything I was doing. I thought the timing was all right,
- 16:43Speaker 6: but I thought, it's just a thousand times too much.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Can't you pull back? No, I can't, I can't. I
- 16:50Speaker 6: don't know where else to go. And I looked at
- 16:52Speaker 6: this episode and I went, this is just the beginning
- 16:56Speaker 6: of season two and everybody is back in another deep,
- 17:01Speaker 6: wonderful groove. This is an incredibly good episode.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it really is.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Ken.
- 17:07Speaker 2: That's why that's one of the reasons we want to
- 17:08Speaker 2: have you on, because not only is it a really
- 17:12Speaker 2: really good one, but you have so much fun stuff
- 17:14Speaker 2: to play in this one, and uh and I want
- 17:17Speaker 2: We were excited to talk to you about all of it,
- 17:18Speaker 2: but before we dive into the episode itself. You know, Ken,
- 17:21Speaker 2: we've had every other one of the leads on the
- 17:24Speaker 2: podcast so far, and we always kind of start with
- 17:28Speaker 2: telling that people excuse me, We always ask everyone their
- 17:32Speaker 2: their audition story, how they how they came about to
- 17:34Speaker 2: be on Scrubs. Do you do you recall like how
- 17:36Speaker 2: that all, how that transpired, What your audition process was
- 17:39Speaker 2: like for the show.
- 17:41Speaker 6: I don't know. It was you go in, you do auditions,
- 17:44Speaker 6: you know, and and this one I went in and
- 17:46Speaker 6: there were two or three guys I know who were
- 17:49Speaker 6: out there, who are all terrific actors. And you ever
- 17:52Speaker 6: think you're going to get apart, you know, feel well,
- 17:53Speaker 6: this is my part. Uh. But I went in and
- 17:57Speaker 6: read and Bill standing over in the back and he laughed,
- 18:03Speaker 6: and I thought, well, that's a generous thing for him
- 18:06Speaker 6: to do. He's helping out in the audition. That was
- 18:09Speaker 6: really nice to him. And I went away feeling that
- 18:11Speaker 6: was really nice. And then when I went in the
- 18:13Speaker 6: second time, he was there and he laughed again, only bigger,
- 18:18Speaker 6: and I thought, oh, I got a chance at this.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah. You start to get excited, right.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Yeah, you do.
- 18:29Speaker 6: And then the the journey in my mind was, uh,
- 18:35Speaker 6: you you have a good audition, you get the part.
- 18:37Speaker 6: And then that first episode I looked at it the
- 18:40Speaker 6: pilot and I thought, man, he should fire me. This
- 18:43Speaker 6: is really awful, spinning around and round.
- 18:47Speaker 2: But you didn't. That was that was written you. That
- 18:49Speaker 2: wasn't your acting. I thought, I thought you were great
- 18:51Speaker 2: in the pilot. Did you not? Did you not like
- 18:53Speaker 2: your performance in the pilot?
- 18:54Speaker 6: I hated it, but somebody gave me a wonderful out.
- 18:58Speaker 6: They said, Ken, all that over the top step you
- 19:00Speaker 6: were obviously doing it in season one. That's just the
- 19:04Speaker 6: way j D was seeing you. Oh and then as
- 19:10Speaker 6: he saw you multi dimensional the way you see Cox
- 19:15Speaker 6: in this episode. That's a wonderful scene with Cox. I
- 19:20Speaker 6: want to be just like you, only more successful. That
- 19:23Speaker 6: scene is brilliant. What a good scene. And you guys
- 19:27Speaker 6: are so good. You kill that scene. It's wonderful.
- 19:29Speaker 2: And when you give me compliments, I have to tell you,
- 19:31Speaker 2: it's a special place in my heart. It means so
- 19:34Speaker 2: much to me because I respect you so much as
- 19:36Speaker 2: as an actor. And you may have thought you were
- 19:39Speaker 2: you were broad and perhaps the part called for that,
- 19:42Speaker 2: particularly early on, but I want you to know, and
- 19:44Speaker 2: I'm sure Donald agrees that we really just admired and
- 19:47Speaker 2: looked up to you for this entire experience.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Absolutely, let's take a break.
- 19:51Speaker 2: We'll be right back after these fine words.
- 20:00Speaker 1: You know, Ken, I'm looking at your I AMD I
- 20:03Speaker 1: guess you're Google. I googled you, and holy shit, dude,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you've been in so many movies. Man, Oh my godhood.
- 20:12Speaker 6: Somebody told me if you want good residuals, get small
- 20:15Speaker 6: parts and big movies.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Oh that's a good technique.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I hear that.
- 20:20Speaker 2: That's true.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I remember when we were doing Scrubs and I guess
- 20:25Speaker 1: it was its Courage under Fire, am I correct? Yeah,
- 20:28Speaker 1: And I remember seeing it and we had already started
- 20:31Speaker 1: shooting and I finally saw the movie and you're in
- 20:35Speaker 1: the movie with the scene with Denzel Washington and you
- 20:38Speaker 1: two are having dialogue and everything like that, And that
- 20:40Speaker 1: was when I first realized. I was like, oh, snap,
- 20:42Speaker 1: Ken had a life well before Scrubs. Kid was doing things.
- 20:46Speaker 2: You thought Scrubs was Ken's first job.
- 20:49Speaker 1: No, I didn't think that, but I, you know, I was.
- 20:52Speaker 1: I'm a you know, dumb, naive actor who's all about
- 20:55Speaker 1: himself and everything like that. And that's when the world really,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you know, the world started opening up when I started
- 20:59Speaker 1: doing Scrub and realizing that, wow, people, I'm not you know,
- 21:02Speaker 1: it's not just me. There's other people involved in this
- 21:04Speaker 1: whole situation. And Ken, Holy.
- 21:06Speaker 6: Cow, Well we all feel like that, don't we. It's
- 21:10Speaker 6: natural you look at a script, and what does any
- 21:14Speaker 6: any actor do when he looks at the script. We
- 21:16Speaker 6: all know this joke, You're got to leaping through the script? Bullshit?
- 21:20Speaker 6: Bullshit my line, right?
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, as you have been blessed though, Ken, that to
- 21:28Speaker 2: have just an incredible amount of work that you've done
- 21:31Speaker 2: over the years.
- 21:32Speaker 6: It's just luck. It's just a numbers game. You learn
- 21:35Speaker 6: the words, you don't trip over the furniture, and you're
- 21:37Speaker 6: going to get some of them. That's all.
- 21:39Speaker 2: Well, I think you're being modest.
- 21:41Speaker 6: Now I'm not going to be modest. I think I'm
- 21:43Speaker 6: very good in this episode. I think it's very smart
- 21:49Speaker 6: of you're to have me for this episode.
- 21:51Speaker 3: You are.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Let's get into it. Let's get into it. I wanted
- 21:53Speaker 2: to say Donald, first of all, Cat, I have a
- 21:56Speaker 2: funny memory of I don't know if you guys have
- 21:59Speaker 2: this thing in your life where someone tells you an
- 22:02Speaker 2: anecdote about a specific thing, and then every time you
- 22:04Speaker 2: think of that thing, you think of the person. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 2: and and one of mine is you Ken. When we
- 22:09Speaker 2: when we first all started making some real money, I
- 22:13Speaker 2: said to you, Ken, are you splurging on anything? Are you?
- 22:17Speaker 2: Are you treating yourself to to anything fun? And you
- 22:22Speaker 2: said something to the effect of not really, but I
- 22:25Speaker 2: have noticed that I am. I'm I'm changing my razor
- 22:29Speaker 2: blade a bit more frequently. And I thought that was
- 22:37Speaker 2: so humble and sweet and every and now when I'm
- 22:40Speaker 2: when I'm I'm looking at my razor blade, I go,
- 22:42Speaker 2: damn it. When was the last time I changed this?
- 22:44Speaker 2: I probably should. I always think of you.
- 22:49Speaker 6: That's funny, Zach, that's funny.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Well, don't be, don't be. I want you to know
- 22:57Speaker 2: that I changed my way more frequently because of Ken Jenkins.
- 23:00Speaker 2: So Donald had braces on. Ken. I don't know if
- 23:03Speaker 2: you recall this, but he he decided to get braces
- 23:07Speaker 2: on the inside of his teeth for season two, And
- 23:11Speaker 2: we've been discussing in other episode's whether or not you
- 23:13Speaker 2: can hear him lisp or not. Because Bill eventually told
- 23:17Speaker 2: him to take the damn things off. This episode could
- 23:20Speaker 2: be called the lisper.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Oh my god, I can't even my mouth is even like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I can't talk, no, not at all. Well, at this
- 23:28Speaker 1: point it was brought to my attention Bill's gonna tell
- 23:31Speaker 1: you to take the braces off, and I was like,
- 23:32Speaker 1: oh no, how am I gonna? I gotta, I gotta,
- 23:34Speaker 1: I gotta enunciate my words a little bit better.
- 23:37Speaker 6: I got.
- 23:37Speaker 2: You might have made it worse.
- 23:38Speaker 1: You made it made it so much worse.
- 23:40Speaker 6: What what I missed this whole thing?
- 23:43Speaker 2: Well, Ken, you weren't looking out for it. I'm sure
- 23:45Speaker 2: if you weren't looking out for it, you perhaps wouldn't
- 23:47Speaker 2: notice it. But it's on our minds because we've been
- 23:50Speaker 2: talking about whether or not we can hear it, and
- 23:52Speaker 2: I haven't noticed that. Donald, To be honest, I were
- 23:54Speaker 2: I wonder if what you're saying is true that you said, oh,
- 23:57Speaker 2: I have to over nunce you. I'd have to compensate
- 23:59Speaker 2: or something, because to me it was like it sounded
- 24:02Speaker 2: like you had something in your mouth.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was brace's.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Wow, you mean in that scene where you asked me
- 24:09Speaker 6: for the thing you have braces yet?
- 24:11Speaker 1: Absolutely?
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yes, Oh yeah, it's like client.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Anywhere I climb.
- 24:21Speaker 6: Here's that subjectivity thing right now? I never noticed that.
- 24:25Speaker 2: Man, Oh wait, we forgotten. Sorry, we have to backtrack
- 24:29Speaker 2: a tiny bit to do our new segment where Donald
- 24:33Speaker 2: Ken Donald tries to sum up the whole episode in
- 24:35Speaker 2: thirty seconds because we've had some people, We've had some
- 24:39Speaker 2: people who are listening who aren't necessarily watching the show
- 24:42Speaker 2: along with the podcast, and they've asked us if if
- 24:46Speaker 2: we could quickly sum up the episode. So, Donald, are
- 24:48Speaker 2: you ready?
- 24:48Speaker 1: Well, I just want to say one thing. There's a
- 24:50Speaker 1: lot going on in this episode.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Well, this is your second time doing this. Are you
- 24:54Speaker 2: already afraid of the assignment?
- 24:56Speaker 1: No, let's go.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Okay, ready, we're gonna have thirty seconds on the clock
- 25:00Speaker 2: and go.
- 25:01Speaker 1: We start off this episode with Kelso challenging all of
- 25:04Speaker 1: the medical interns to come up with an interesting patient
- 25:08Speaker 1: for the AMA conference. That sets the hospital a blaze.
- 25:11Speaker 1: It causes friction between John C. Mcginley's character and Zach's
- 25:15Speaker 1: character in the movie, Sarah and Judy, their characters don't
- 25:19Speaker 1: know if they really get along, and Turk wants a laser.
- 25:21Speaker 1: At the end of the episode, we find out that
- 25:23Speaker 1: doctor Kelso is a sweetheart and will actually grant you
- 25:27Speaker 1: a wish if you come to him secretly. That being said,
- 25:31Speaker 1: that's my second.
- 25:34Speaker 2: You got most of it, You got most of.
- 25:37Speaker 1: It, most of it.
- 25:39Speaker 3: Now.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Look, well here's the thing though, it's hard to get
- 25:42Speaker 1: into the most important part of the show, and that's
- 25:47Speaker 1: Kelso turning into the biggest sweetheart by choice. Yes, once
- 25:55Speaker 1: every year.
- 25:56Speaker 2: Yes, but this year three seconds are over, so I
- 25:58Speaker 2: don't know is this the uh right?
- 26:01Speaker 1: This is the prologue, the prologue, the.
- 26:02Speaker 2: Prog the epilogue, epilogue.
- 26:05Speaker 1: That blogue epilogue.
- 26:07Speaker 6: All right, well, yeah, I gave you credit for doing that.
- 26:11Speaker 6: Donald's to get to get that much of it in
- 26:13Speaker 6: in thirty seconds. This is a big episode. It is
- 26:16Speaker 6: not ABC story, it's it's overlapping arcs in different directions,
- 26:21Speaker 6: so much stuff going on.
- 26:23Speaker 2: It was directed by Michael directed by Michael Spiller, one
- 26:26Speaker 2: of our favorites, Ken, Right, we always loved Michael Spiller.
- 26:29Speaker 6: Loved Michael.
- 26:30Speaker 2: And back to the old credits. If you recall in
- 26:34Speaker 2: season two, can you remember we had to reshoot the
- 26:36Speaker 2: beautiful credit sequence and then they wanted to add Neil
- 26:40Speaker 2: to the credits, so we reshot them, and then the
- 26:44Speaker 2: song was slower and the fans really didn't like it,
- 26:47Speaker 2: And so I think that that's it for the for
- 26:49Speaker 2: the old credit sequence. This I think as far as
- 26:52Speaker 2: this one, we're back to it.
- 26:55Speaker 6: And I asked you questions about this episode. The h
- 27:01Speaker 6: is Neil is still in your head, Janitor, still just
- 27:05Speaker 6: in your head in this episode? Right? Nobody else reacts
- 27:09Speaker 6: with him.
- 27:10Speaker 2: That's a good question, Ken, We've debated that. And because
- 27:12Speaker 2: Bill has Bill sort of a game with that we
- 27:16Speaker 2: thought was mostly season one, I think as far as
- 27:20Speaker 2: season two, he has begun to talk to other people,
- 27:23Speaker 2: but in this episode he only this particular one. He
- 27:26Speaker 2: only interacts with me.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Well, he so far throughout the season, he's only talked
- 27:31Speaker 1: to you. He hasn't you know, he hasn't talked to
- 27:33Speaker 1: anyone else. It's only been you so far.
- 27:35Speaker 2: No, I think I think that's wrong. I think he
- 27:39Speaker 2: he spoke to Ken or someone in an earlier and.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Let's find out. Maybe this is a time to ask
- 27:45Speaker 1: Scrubs Wiki.
- 27:47Speaker 2: I'm nervous about asking Scrubs wiki.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So can we have this Wikipedia site? Well, it's not
- 27:53Speaker 1: a Wikipedia site. This guy, Trevor, Uh, he's the He
- 27:57Speaker 1: runs a Scrubs Wikipedia site pretty much where it's you ask,
- 28:01Speaker 1: you type in a question and all of these answers
- 28:04Speaker 1: come up for you know, specific said question.
- 28:08Speaker 2: Uh, that's not so true at all what you just said.
- 28:10Speaker 1: It isn't you know?
- 28:11Speaker 2: You don't type in a question. It it's like you
- 28:14Speaker 2: can look up okay, episode two of season two, and
- 28:18Speaker 2: it tells you different. You've probably never looked at the
- 28:19Speaker 2: damn thing, have you.
- 28:20Speaker 1: I've never looked at you.
- 28:23Speaker 2: We've been talking about it for so long, you never
- 28:25Speaker 2: even looked at it.
- 28:26Speaker 6: Listen to me, fake it to you.
- 28:30Speaker 1: It would be a lot.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I love that in your mind. It's right. So all
- 28:34Speaker 2: you do, Ken is you type in a question and
- 28:36Speaker 2: it comes up with an answer that's not at all
- 28:38Speaker 2: what it is.
- 28:39Speaker 1: That should be what it is. Wick, You needs to
- 28:42Speaker 1: get that game right. That's a better way.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Well, you need to make your you need to make
- 28:46Speaker 2: your own, your own web page. This is just Ken,
- 28:49Speaker 2: It's just like someone has curated this this page where
- 28:52Speaker 2: it breaks down every episode and it tells you the
- 28:55Speaker 2: guest stars, it tells you a summary, it tells you
- 28:57Speaker 2: some trivia, it tells you continuity errors, and yeah, you know,
- 29:00Speaker 2: it's become a good resource for us.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think it's a good resource
- 29:04Speaker 1: anymore if I can't call it and ask it questions
- 29:06Speaker 1: then and it answered my question.
- 29:08Speaker 2: Well, that's why we have asked. Trevor asks Trevor Wicki.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Okay, let me ask Trevor Wicki. Okay, Trevor, Trevor Wickie.
- 29:16Speaker 1: So far this season, in my recollection, the janitor has
- 29:20Speaker 1: talked only to JD. Is this true? And if it
- 29:24Speaker 1: is true, when does the janitor actually start to interact
- 29:28Speaker 1: in the story where his storylines are intertwined with the
- 29:34Speaker 1: rest of the cast.
- 29:35Speaker 2: I have a feeling that it's Ken Jenkins. I have
- 29:37Speaker 2: a feeling and I want Trevor Wicki to answer this
- 29:39Speaker 2: that the Janitor says something to me and it makes
- 29:41Speaker 2: Ken slash Doctor Kelso laugh. But we'll see Trevor.
- 29:47Speaker 10: How do you guys? In season two, Janitor still mostly
- 29:50Speaker 10: only interacts with JD. In the next episode, My big Mouth,
- 29:54Speaker 10: Janitor partners with Troy, but it's not until Mike Karma
- 29:57Speaker 10: where Janitor starts interacting with other main care All.
- 30:00Speaker 2: Right, let's get into the episode. So one two. I
- 30:05Speaker 2: thought it was hilarious that JD. You don't know what
- 30:07Speaker 2: JD is daydreaming about and you go to him because
- 30:11Speaker 2: the woman says, is he always daydreaming there? And it
- 30:14Speaker 2: turns out we reveal that he's daydreaming about having that
- 30:17Speaker 2: that beautiful uh afro that better Sun has and I'm
- 30:21Speaker 2: bopping my head to that. That made me laugh out loud.
- 30:23Speaker 6: You would love to tell you my favorite line in
- 30:25Speaker 6: this episode, so we don't lose it. Yeah, he said
- 30:29Speaker 6: it seemed Donald and Judy a beautiful, sweet little scene.
- 30:33Speaker 6: And he looks up and says something to the heavens,
- 30:36Speaker 6: and Judy says, this is my favorite line. Baby. You know,
- 30:39Speaker 6: I don't like you talking to God while we're having
- 30:41Speaker 6: a discussion.
- 30:52Speaker 3: That's funny.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Well we all do it, though, but we all do it.
- 30:57Speaker 1: We all do it. Everybody does it. Everybody does it.
- 31:01Speaker 1: At some point when in a discussion that you're uncomfortable with,
- 31:04Speaker 1: there's that look to the Heaven's like why God, why
- 31:09Speaker 1: why are you doing this to right? It happens all
- 31:17Speaker 1: the time. I've caught my wife doing it to me,
- 31:20Speaker 1: like when she she even puts her fists, grabs her
- 31:27Speaker 1: fist and hits them together. Well, why, Yeah, it's true,
- 31:31Speaker 1: it's true.
- 31:32Speaker 2: That is a great line. And we and we revealed
- 31:34Speaker 2: the Turk is still religious, because you know, we had
- 31:35Speaker 2: asked her early in season one and he's quite religious.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Not that not that you need to be religious to
- 31:39Speaker 2: talk to God, but it does seem like we had
- 31:42Speaker 2: asked earlier, like oh, does that do we stay with that?
- 31:45Speaker 2: Does does Turk keep a relationship with God? And here
- 31:48Speaker 2: he is talking to God?
- 31:51Speaker 1: I want to I want to jump back to the
- 31:52Speaker 1: beginning of the episode. When the show very first starts,
- 31:55Speaker 1: it cuts to an exterior shot of our apartment. Yeah,
- 32:01Speaker 1: then when it cuts into the apartment, it kind of
- 32:04Speaker 1: felt a little it felt very sitcomy, you know what
- 32:07Speaker 1: I mean. And there aren't a lot of moments of
- 32:11Speaker 1: this show where I'm like, that's like a sitcom. You know,
- 32:15Speaker 1: we we earn our laughs because the laugh track there's
- 32:17Speaker 1: no laugh track to you know, to help you. We
- 32:20Speaker 1: earn our laughs, and that at that moment, I was like,
- 32:23Speaker 1: is this one of those moments where we're experimenting still
- 32:27Speaker 1: in season two, trying to figure out a way to
- 32:30Speaker 1: because we're coming on Thursday nights now And you know,
- 32:32Speaker 1: when Friends was on, that's always the first shot at
- 32:37Speaker 1: the central the central perk, or it's their apartment building.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And it seemed like that's what we were doing.
- 32:42Speaker 2: And you think it was just the shot of the apartment,
- 32:45Speaker 2: because that's pretty rare for Scrubs to open on the
- 32:47Speaker 2: shot of the apartment. It usually opens on the shot
- 32:49Speaker 2: of the hospital. Is that what you were sensing?
- 32:50Speaker 1: You think, maybe maybe that's what it is, or maybe
- 32:54Speaker 1: you know, someone one of the executives at NBC or
- 32:58Speaker 1: something was like, well, I don't know where they start from.
- 33:00Speaker 1: Let's just you know, I don't I don't. I don't
- 33:02Speaker 1: understand this shot at the apartment.
- 33:05Speaker 6: I thought it was a joke that didn't quite work. Yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 6: which one, but the shot of the apartment of playoff friends,
- 33:13Speaker 6: this is not friends, boom, it's friends. It's not friends,
- 33:16Speaker 6: it's oh oh, that's very interesting because it opens up
- 33:20Speaker 6: and it's the four of us in the in the apartment.
- 33:22Speaker 2: I didn't understand why you say I'll go get you
- 33:24Speaker 2: guys beers and I'm like, I'll come help you, Like,
- 33:26Speaker 2: why do you need help grabbing two beers?
- 33:28Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 33:29Speaker 2: It was just it was a setup to leave them
- 33:31Speaker 2: alone and show that they they have that they're awkward
- 33:34Speaker 2: when they're when they're alone together.
- 33:37Speaker 6: Right.
- 33:37Speaker 1: I have another question, what the heck is an AMA conference?
- 33:40Speaker 1: I didn't want to look it up. I wanted to
- 33:42Speaker 1: ask this.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Gender the American Medical Association.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Donald Okay got it for all of you who out
- 33:48Speaker 1: there who didn't know what an AMA conference was and
- 33:51Speaker 1: didn't bother to look it up, like me.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Yeah, I think some people might be perplexed that you
- 33:55Speaker 2: don't know what the AMA is after playing a fake
- 33:57Speaker 2: doctor for for nine years, But you know who.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Knows, don't be perplexed.
- 34:02Speaker 6: Do you know?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Don't be proplexed. There's a The AMA said that Scrubs
- 34:09Speaker 2: was the most medically accurate TV show about doctors. Did
- 34:12Speaker 2: you know that?
- 34:14Speaker 1: I did know that. I didn't know that the AMA
- 34:16Speaker 1: said it. I just thought random doctors said it.
- 34:18Speaker 2: No, AMA's that's one of our badges of honor.
- 34:22Speaker 6: Okay, my doctor still says, well, what do you think, Ken?
- 34:28Speaker 2: Ken? Do you uh? Do you do you use your
- 34:30Speaker 2: Scrubs fame to uh to get special treatment from the
- 34:33Speaker 2: doctor because we've learned that Bill tells everyone, including his dentist,
- 34:37Speaker 2: that he was a creator of Scrubs.
- 34:39Speaker 6: My doctors have got too old to understand things like that.
- 34:45Speaker 6: They just do what doctor Kelso did. Pay the nurse
- 34:49Speaker 6: pay on your way out.
- 34:51Speaker 2: I like it to twenty six that not only have
- 34:53Speaker 2: I just enjoyed a fantasy with the afro, but i've
- 34:56Speaker 2: I've I asked the guy is that easy to manage?
- 34:58Speaker 2: Like Jay's really JD's really asking if he can if
- 35:02Speaker 2: you might want to try a perm Yes.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Also, Ken, I love al gio I don't know if
- 35:09Speaker 1: you loved al Giou.
- 35:10Speaker 6: That's that's my second favorite joke. And the look on
- 35:15Speaker 6: the Loma's face when she goes what.
- 35:22Speaker 1: And you say, what is your response? With which one
- 35:24Speaker 1: is the blind one? You mean rachels.
- 35:35Speaker 2: And then doesn't Aloma say? Aloma says something like careful
- 35:38Speaker 2: of herne you're a saved woman.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Yes, but I loved me some al Gio. I loved
- 35:46Speaker 1: Algio growing up. He's sang some of the greatest songs
- 35:50Speaker 1: ever made, like one of them.
- 35:52Speaker 2: What's Algiro's most famous sign? I know the name, but
- 35:54Speaker 2: I can't think of what an Algiro song is that
- 35:56Speaker 2: I would know.
- 35:57Speaker 1: We're in this love together, we got the kind that
- 36:01Speaker 1: last forever. Also, nobody does it like Sarah Lee.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Oh he did the jingle.
- 36:07Speaker 1: Do you remember when he had his own Sarah Lee commercial?
- 36:10Speaker 1: And nobody does it like Sarah Lee.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I do remember. We're in it love to get the.
- 36:18Speaker 1: Laugh forever.
- 36:20Speaker 10: Uh.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Tommy Davidson, when I was a kid, had this great
- 36:23Speaker 1: stand up special where he talks about al Giou Algio
- 36:27Speaker 1: sang the theme song to Moonlighting some fly By.
- 36:31Speaker 8: Now that's right, moon Light extrangers who just met on
- 36:39Speaker 8: the wie who just met on the way.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Anyway, Tommy Davis, a.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Little more, you gotta put a little more sound fly By.
- 36:50Speaker 1: Well, listen. Tommy Davison did this whole stand up thing
- 36:53Speaker 1: when I was a kid, right well, and he would
- 36:56Speaker 1: talk about how Algero could sing his off but would
- 37:01Speaker 1: make the craziest faces when he sang, so that to
- 37:04Speaker 1: get those sounds and to get that that you know,
- 37:06Speaker 1: that kind of twang to his music some fly by
- 37:09Speaker 1: Ni Shell Fly bday. He make just the faces, and
- 37:17Speaker 1: his niece would be like, what's wrong with his face?
- 37:23Speaker 2: I loved aw, Jerome, So can you have to kiss
- 37:26Speaker 2: this woman's butt? Do you remember if she was really
- 37:28Speaker 2: there for your butt kissing?
- 37:32Speaker 6: You know, you think I'd remember a thing like that,
- 37:34Speaker 6: but I don't.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I don't remember either. She was good. I forgot her name.
- 37:42Speaker 2: I'll look it up because I'm on this.
- 37:43Speaker 6: Marie Cheatham, Oh nice, nice?
- 37:47Speaker 2: Yeah you had you had you work with her before?
- 37:49Speaker 6: Again, Yes, well, we didn't work together. But when I
- 37:53Speaker 6: was seventeen, I was an apprentice at the Alley Theater
- 37:57Speaker 6: in Houston, Texas, and Marie down there. I don't remember
- 38:01Speaker 6: whether she was an apprentice too, or whether she was
- 38:04Speaker 6: just around in the company because she's younger than me,
- 38:09Speaker 6: I think. But that's where when Robert Fox Schwarth was
- 38:14Speaker 6: down there as an apprentice Carl and Glenn.
- 38:17Speaker 1: Wow, so you guys knew each other when you were
- 38:20Speaker 1: a teenagers.
- 38:21Speaker 6: But when I was seventeen. But I hadn't seen her until.
- 38:24Speaker 6: I was very surprised when there she was on the
- 38:27Speaker 6: on the show. I think she was very good.
- 38:30Speaker 2: Yeah, she was, she was. And the banter between all
- 38:35Speaker 2: of you guys, and the banter with Johnny was really
- 38:37Speaker 2: funny too.
- 38:37Speaker 6: Oh yeah, the sas and you saying sas sas.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Stop saying sas, Stop saying sas sas.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Mike McDonald's back in this episode.
- 38:53Speaker 2: Yes, Mike McDonald with a broken penis.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Right, and Sarah's and Sarah's imaginary patient with the ass
- 38:59Speaker 1: on the front.
- 39:00Speaker 2: That hilarious front butt.
- 39:04Speaker 6: That scene with Sarah and Judy, that is just the
- 39:07Speaker 6: sweetest little scene when when I would kill for your
- 39:11Speaker 6: I would kill for your and Judy says, I would
- 39:14Speaker 6: kill for that wagon, your dragon, blank look on her face.
- 39:19Speaker 6: She says, that's your butt.
- 39:22Speaker 2: What's funny is that Sara didn't really have much of
- 39:24Speaker 2: a wagon. I mean, I don't.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Know, I think that's I think that's the actual joke, though,
- 39:29Speaker 1: you know, it's it's very interesting because you know, women
- 39:32Speaker 1: are built different, obviously, and some have junk in the
- 39:34Speaker 1: trunk and some have not a lot of junk in
- 39:37Speaker 1: the trunk. And what I've learned is that, you know,
- 39:40Speaker 1: jeans fit different when you have more junk like jeans
- 39:43Speaker 1: that you see on television and designer jeans, at least
- 39:46Speaker 1: when I was growing up, or made for people, were
- 39:48Speaker 1: made for people with not a lot of booty, you
- 39:50Speaker 1: know what I mean. And so when I would go
- 39:53Speaker 1: and buy the jeans that I saw, you know, on television,
- 39:57Speaker 1: and I put them on, I would have I had
- 40:00Speaker 1: big quads, and I have a very round and.
- 40:03Speaker 2: You have a big ass wagon.
- 40:05Speaker 1: And so it would be hard to fit into these jeans.
- 40:07Speaker 1: And so a lot of these jeans that I had,
- 40:09Speaker 1: you know, i'd buy all of these, you know, the
- 40:13Speaker 1: brand that was popular at the time. I would buy
- 40:15Speaker 1: the jeans and try to fit into them, and they
- 40:17Speaker 1: just didn't look as good as they did on other people,
- 40:20Speaker 1: and so I would you know, one of one of
- 40:22Speaker 1: the ways around that is to let the jeans sag
- 40:24Speaker 1: off your butt, you know. But I just noticed something
- 40:29Speaker 1: that was very crazy about this episode is both Judy
- 40:33Speaker 1: and Sarah look amazing in this episode, they're like fine
- 40:36Speaker 1: as fine can be in this episode, you know what
- 40:39Speaker 1: I mean. Judy's hair is out of her face and
- 40:42Speaker 1: in your face, you know what I mean, you can
- 40:43Speaker 1: really see how beautiful she is. Sarah's hair is done
- 40:46Speaker 1: nice and not in her face, and you see how
- 40:49Speaker 1: beautiful she is.
- 40:49Speaker 2: But she's got to the Princess Leiah buns on her head.
- 40:52Speaker 1: And they're complaining in the episode about, you know, what
- 40:56Speaker 1: they wish they had and what they wish they didn't have,
- 40:59Speaker 1: and you know, and in my mind, I was like, wow,
- 41:01Speaker 1: we have two really beautiful women. But at the end
- 41:05Speaker 1: of the day, is that is that how we all are?
- 41:08Speaker 1: We all this way?
- 41:08Speaker 2: And of course everybody, everybody has their own insecurities about
- 41:13Speaker 2: their physical appearance. And and I think part of the
- 41:16Speaker 2: point of the episode where was here are these two
- 41:19Speaker 2: women that that we all would imagine would be perfectly
- 41:23Speaker 2: fine with their their appearance, and then they what they
- 41:26Speaker 2: finally bond over is their insecurities and you know, they
- 41:30Speaker 2: don't have they can't find anything to talk about. I
- 41:32Speaker 2: thought it was a pretty powerful statement. Actually, what they're
- 41:35Speaker 2: saying is what they finally bond over is their own
- 41:37Speaker 2: insecurities about themselves. Yeah, and then the other one is like,
- 41:40Speaker 2: what are you talking about?
- 41:41Speaker 3: You have this?
- 41:42Speaker 2: You have this, And she's like, what are you talking about?
- 41:43Speaker 3: You have this?
- 41:43Speaker 2: I wish I had your hair, I wish I had
- 41:45Speaker 2: your you know. So I thought that that that was
- 41:47Speaker 2: really relatable. A lot of people could go, oh God,
- 41:50Speaker 2: even even these women who I perceive is to be
- 41:52Speaker 2: to be so beautiful, battle this.
- 41:56Speaker 3: You know.
- 41:57Speaker 6: And what the turn with the Johnny c with the
- 42:00Speaker 6: Doctor Cox after your scene and you're telling him you
- 42:03Speaker 6: want to be like him, only successful, And the last
- 42:07Speaker 6: scene is him showing us that he's been kind of
- 42:12Speaker 6: braving over his insecurities when he hands the telephone to
- 42:16Speaker 6: Marie's character and lets her make the call for him, Yeah,
- 42:20Speaker 6: to get him an advantage.
- 42:22Speaker 2: And I really and I really like that because it
- 42:23Speaker 2: was it's one of the first times in the whole
- 42:25Speaker 2: show where I have had the bravery to do something
- 42:29Speaker 2: that affects Doctor Cox. Yeah, you know, I really that
- 42:34Speaker 2: took a lot of chutzba for JD to do what
- 42:38Speaker 2: he did and and go against him. But and of
- 42:42Speaker 2: course to say to your mentor, I want to be you,
- 42:44Speaker 2: but a more successful you. Yeah, I mean that was
- 42:49Speaker 2: that was a really courageous moment for the character. And
- 42:52Speaker 2: then I really love the fact that that that went
- 42:55Speaker 2: to affect to doctor Cox. It really it made him
- 42:58Speaker 2: take action in his own career, planted a seed in
- 43:01Speaker 2: his own mind.
- 43:02Speaker 6: Right, it really planted your seed for the next six
- 43:06Speaker 6: years of your relationship with him.
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, we have to go to a quick commercial, Ken,
- 43:12Speaker 2: because this was like a real show. We have a
- 43:14Speaker 2: real we have advertisers and everything, so we will be
- 43:17Speaker 2: right back after these words.
- 43:23Speaker 1: And we're bad and we're bad. I think there are
- 43:31Speaker 1: only a few entrances in our show that are legendary. Ken,
- 43:37Speaker 1: you have two all in one episode too. Your entrance
- 43:41Speaker 1: where you're excited and happy about everything you know, are
- 43:46Speaker 1: you coming and you're dancing and you and you're excited.
- 43:49Speaker 1: That's one of the best entrances in Scrubs history. And
- 43:53Speaker 1: then your second entrance when you come in and you
- 43:56Speaker 1: beat the ship out of everybody. I forgot one of that,
- 43:59Speaker 1: one of the best.
- 44:01Speaker 2: I had forgoten about that, Ken, Do you remember you
- 44:03Speaker 2: must have done those both the same day, I imagine
- 44:05Speaker 2: was there must have been a lot of rehearsal for
- 44:06Speaker 2: those sequences.
- 44:07Speaker 6: I don't remember, there wasn't. There was very little rehearsal
- 44:11Speaker 6: for the Happy One because it started downstairs an the entrance, Yeah,
- 44:17Speaker 6: throwing off the cape, and that took a little while
- 44:19Speaker 6: to set up. Those scenes always did down there, and
- 44:22Speaker 6: then we were up in the hallway and that seemed
- 44:25Speaker 6: to be almost an improvisation. It just went that was
- 44:28Speaker 6: so fast. But on the second hallway scene that was Ernie,
- 44:34Speaker 6: and Ernie was there with those guys and saying give
- 44:38Speaker 6: me a key yah and made all those wax working
- 44:42Speaker 6: and those people doing those enormous reactions from anything I did,
- 44:47Speaker 6: that sold.
- 44:47Speaker 2: That all the just for people that don't know. Ernie
- 44:50Speaker 2: was one of our stunt coordinators and all those people
- 44:53Speaker 2: that Ken's interacting with our stunt men and women, and
- 44:55Speaker 2: we haven't really given enough shout out to them yet
- 44:58Speaker 2: on this show. You know, we like we prided ourselves
- 45:01Speaker 2: on doing a lot of the physical stuff, but the
- 45:06Speaker 2: stunt people did a ton of the stunts on the show,
- 45:10Speaker 2: especially stuff that like like this moment with Ken, which
- 45:12Speaker 2: is it's like a dancer tene, right Ken, It's like
- 45:15Speaker 2: it's like a choreographed dancer teine.
- 45:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't like that one. I like the second
- 45:20Speaker 6: one is.
- 45:21Speaker 2: No, I mean when I when I when I meant
- 45:24Speaker 2: was that the fight sequence is its own bit of
- 45:26Speaker 2: a yeah of a dancer?
- 45:27Speaker 3: Oh?
- 45:27Speaker 6: Absolutely, yeah, absolutely? Now listen, is this the only time
- 45:32Speaker 6: there were two done in one episode? Asked Trevor the wiki.
- 45:38Speaker 2: Okay, you want to Ken?
- 45:40Speaker 3: Good?
- 45:40Speaker 2: Were Ken is calling upon Trevor Wicki?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Ken?
- 45:44Speaker 2: We are going to ask uh Trevor wiki? Has there
- 45:47Speaker 2: ever been a uh an entrance by one of the
- 45:50Speaker 2: characters that's done twice in one episode? You know, in
- 45:53Speaker 2: the same hallway we had our that prut and the
- 45:57Speaker 2: one with the pimpstrut for Donald and I, which we
- 45:59Speaker 2: did twice, but separated by many many episodes. Yes, has
- 46:05Speaker 2: there ever been a an entrance like this in a
- 46:08Speaker 2: in another episode where we did it twice?
- 46:10Speaker 10: Over the top entrances are a fun running gag on Scrubs,
- 46:13Speaker 10: But Doctor Kelso is the only character to get two
- 46:16Speaker 10: grand entrances in one episode.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Well, not twice, but I do remember Dick van Dyke
- 46:21Speaker 1: had entrance very similar.
- 46:23Speaker 2: To why are you helping? Why are you helping? Trevor
- 46:25Speaker 2: Wicki out?
- 46:25Speaker 1: This isn't free because Trevor Wickie doesn't want to do
- 46:27Speaker 1: the job.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Zach, No, we don't know.
- 46:29Speaker 3: We don't know.
- 46:29Speaker 1: They said he doesn't want to do it. He said
- 46:31Speaker 1: he didn't want to do it.
- 46:31Speaker 2: No, Joelle said there was a misunderstanding. He does want
- 46:35Speaker 2: to do it. We never sent him his gift basket.
- 46:37Speaker 2: You well, we remind me of him.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I don't send gift backskets to people who are halfway in.
- 46:43Speaker 2: And listen, I feel like I feel like the gift basket,
- 46:47Speaker 2: if well stocked, could put him over the edge. He
- 46:50Speaker 2: might be on the fence.
- 46:51Speaker 1: So we gotta we gotta give him.
- 46:53Speaker 2: Listen, man, Yes, we have to bribe him. This is America.
- 46:56Speaker 1: What are we going to bribe him with?
- 46:58Speaker 2: This is America? Don't catch you stipin up.
- 47:01Speaker 1: What are we going to bribe them with? What are
- 47:02Speaker 1: we going to bribe them with? Some salami?
- 47:04Speaker 3: Joe?
- 47:04Speaker 2: Why should we put in the gift basket for Trevor Wiki.
- 47:06Speaker 2: We can find out.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Just so we can answer these questions.
- 47:09Speaker 2: Ibout scrub swag. I mean if I was Trevor Wiki,
- 47:12Speaker 2: if I was Trevor Wiki, I would want scrubswag.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I bet you we could go to Instagram and listen
- 47:18Speaker 1: I'm not trying to diss you, Trevor Scrubs Wiki. But
- 47:20Speaker 1: if I went to Instagram and asked all of our
- 47:23Speaker 1: followers any of these questions, say'd be eager and excited
- 47:27Speaker 1: to do it. This is a I'm not trying to
- 47:30Speaker 1: I'm not trying to help the situation. I'm trying to
- 47:32Speaker 1: tell you guys right now that he don't want to
- 47:34Speaker 1: do it.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Okay, well listen, Trevor Wiki. That's I apologize on behalf
- 47:38Speaker 2: of my co host.
- 47:39Speaker 1: You don't want to do it.
- 47:41Speaker 2: Now, what if we were to get you know, there's
- 47:42Speaker 2: Scrubs Funko pops right. What if we were to each
- 47:45Speaker 2: sign our own funko pop and give them the Trevor
- 47:47Speaker 2: Wiki as his bribe.
- 47:50Speaker 1: Trevor Wiki will then take Seid Funko pops and sell
- 47:54Speaker 1: them on the internet.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Well, then he'll make what and then he'll make his
- 47:59Speaker 2: twenty bucks and it'll be.
- 48:02Speaker 1: They're worth more than twenty bucks.
- 48:04Speaker 2: Listen, maybe because Ken asked Trevor Wicky, he'll be a
- 48:07Speaker 2: little bit more inclined to do it because everybody loves
- 48:11Speaker 2: Ken Jenkins.
- 48:12Speaker 1: There we go.
- 48:12Speaker 6: Okay, you're a get well, you're ready get the list
- 48:15Speaker 6: of all those hallways, Heather and Heather and whoever else
- 48:19Speaker 6: did one.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good question.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Well, listen, let's not overwhelmed the man we've heard sorlready
- 48:24Speaker 2: a second question.
- 48:24Speaker 1: See, that's what I'm talking about. This wouldn't be overwhelming.
- 48:27Speaker 1: If he wanted to do it, it'd be the best
- 48:29Speaker 1: day of his life. Yo, zach Kin and Donald asked
- 48:31Speaker 1: me how many things happen in the hallway? Whoa give
- 48:34Speaker 1: made a website?
- 48:35Speaker 2: He don't want to do it, all right, Calm down,
- 48:37Speaker 2: Calm down. This is his second This is his audition
- 48:40Speaker 2: to see if he wants to come back and do it.
- 48:42Speaker 1: This is the callback. This is the callback.
- 48:43Speaker 2: This is his callback. We'll see how he does. We've
- 48:45Speaker 2: now given him two questions. One is from the legendary
- 48:48Speaker 2: Ken Jenkins, and we will Joel, will you please facilitate
- 48:52Speaker 2: him getting signed Funko Pops? But only if he comes through? Okay,
- 48:58Speaker 2: and you know we can also sell it. We can say,
- 49:00Speaker 2: end him a gift card to get a free notification
- 49:04Speaker 2: for his phone.
- 49:06Speaker 4: You have a dollar twenty nine gets you to give.
- 49:07Speaker 2: Him a dollar twenty nine gives her Oh my god,
- 49:16Speaker 2: that's funny. Big all insulted. He'd be for like, hey, man,
- 49:19Speaker 2: we really want to thank you. Here's it gives certificate
- 49:21Speaker 2: for a dollar twenty nine to get our ring tone.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Here's the ring tones.
- 49:25Speaker 2: All right, Should we get back to the episode, guys.
- 49:27Speaker 1: Yes, eat Schmidt and die.
- 49:30Speaker 2: Yeah, that was funny.
- 49:31Speaker 3: Oh.
- 49:31Speaker 2: Sarah says when she was a kid, she was really
- 49:33Speaker 2: close with her maid and then and then and then
- 49:36Speaker 2: she goes and then she goes, our maid was white.
- 49:38Speaker 2: And Judy goes what was her name? And there's a
- 49:40Speaker 2: really long pause and she goes, Kenzuela.
- 49:49Speaker 6: Man.
- 49:53Speaker 1: So the in the Janitor, I thought that was a
- 50:01Speaker 1: great moment. And I thought that the janitor because you know,
- 50:05Speaker 1: when watching these episodes, we don't really remember all of it,
- 50:07Speaker 1: and so I honestly thought that JD had a breakthrough
- 50:10Speaker 1: with the janitor. And I was wondering what JD was
- 50:13Speaker 1: gonna do for the janitor to be like that mop
- 50:15Speaker 1: that I got you forget about I mean that mop,
- 50:18Speaker 1: that the mop that you got me, forget about it.
- 50:20Speaker 1: You ruined everything. And he just decides at the end
- 50:23Speaker 1: of the show, I liked my ol map better.
- 50:24Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:26Speaker 2: Yeah, but by the way he cries, he literally the janitor.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I had forgotten this. He cries over my gift. First
- 50:33Speaker 2: of all, he's in line. Everyone's in line to go
- 50:36Speaker 2: to Kelso's office to ask for things for their department,
- 50:39Speaker 2: and really expensive stuff. You're asking for an argon laser.
- 50:42Speaker 2: People are asking for overtime for nurses. They're all lined
- 50:46Speaker 2: up to ask for special things for the department. The
- 50:48Speaker 2: janitor's in line to ask for a mop.
- 50:50Speaker 12: Yeah, and then he doesn't get a MOP.
- 50:56Speaker 2: So I go out and buy him a MOP. I
- 50:58Speaker 2: take the time to give.
- 51:00Speaker 1: I mean, I goes out his way to make this
- 51:04Speaker 1: man feel special.
- 51:05Speaker 2: I know. I wish I had seen the scene. That
- 51:06Speaker 2: would have been a funny scene watching me mop shopping
- 51:08Speaker 2: for the janitor. But I buy the mop, I gift
- 51:11Speaker 2: wrap it, I put a bow on it, and I
- 51:13Speaker 2: give it to him and he starts to cry. He's
- 51:15Speaker 2: so moved.
- 51:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that was funny.
- 51:19Speaker 2: And then at the end of the episode he's like,
- 51:21Speaker 2: I like my old mom, and I go, you cried.
- 51:23Speaker 2: He goes, no, that was you.
- 51:24Speaker 1: That was you that.
- 51:28Speaker 6: I liked your line. And when you said what was
- 51:32Speaker 6: wrong with the mompny and you said it was out
- 51:35Speaker 6: of mop gas?
- 51:40Speaker 2: Was it out a mop Gas. Yeah, he's so funny, Neil.
- 51:44Speaker 2: I just look at him and I start giggling. I mean,
- 51:47Speaker 2: you know, when he comes on, it's gonna be a
- 51:49Speaker 2: funny moment. How about Rob Mashio. First of all, I
- 51:52Speaker 2: believe when you when you get a fake breast, uh,
- 51:55Speaker 2: I think it's like a special wing or doctor. Right,
- 51:59Speaker 2: it's I don't want to want why we're handling. Why
- 52:02Speaker 2: Judy and Rob Mashio are handling a breast augmentation?
- 52:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you go to a plastic surgeon for that.
- 52:08Speaker 2: Right right. I thought that was like, I don't know much,
- 52:10Speaker 2: but I was like, why is Judy prepping a breast augmentation?
- 52:14Speaker 2: And why is Rob Macchio doing the surgery?
- 52:17Speaker 6: Because the real j D was not in the writer's
- 52:20Speaker 6: room when.
- 52:20Speaker 2: They exactly Then, because I was like, I believe we're
- 52:26Speaker 2: like a small city hospital and like mostly for like emergencies.
- 52:30Speaker 2: I don't think we're doing like cosmetic breast augmentation. But
- 52:34Speaker 2: but what about when he goes, let's get you into
- 52:36Speaker 2: a fresh pair of blouse bunnies. Blouse bunnies. And then
- 52:43Speaker 2: later he says to the husband, after she's had ther
- 52:46Speaker 2: breast done, he goes We're gonna need to get you
- 52:48Speaker 2: some bigger hands. You didn't laugh at that.
- 52:55Speaker 1: I did laugh. I laugh at everything Rob does. Yeah,
- 53:00Speaker 1: so we have a moment where Elliott has a voiceover.
- 53:05Speaker 5: What are you thinking about?
- 53:06Speaker 1: Yeah, she has a voiceover when she's raw looking in
- 53:09Speaker 1: the mirror or stuff like that.
- 53:11Speaker 2: Is that a voiceover?
- 53:12Speaker 3: Is it too?
- 53:12Speaker 2: Or she's talking to herself.
- 53:15Speaker 1: Her mouth isn't moving, so it's definitely voiceover.
- 53:17Speaker 2: By the way, when she's playing with her breast and
- 53:19Speaker 2: she squeezing them together and then she like leans forward
- 53:22Speaker 2: and then something breaks. But I don't know what the
- 53:24Speaker 2: hell happens. It sounds like someone throws a brick through
- 53:26Speaker 2: her front window. There's like this loud glass shatter noise.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Do you know what I'm talking about?
- 53:31Speaker 1: No, I didn't pick that up.
- 53:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 53:33Speaker 2: The idea is she's like she's like leaning forward and
- 53:35Speaker 2: she's like giving herself big cleavage, and then the idea
- 53:38Speaker 2: is like something breaks. But do you know what I'm
- 53:42Speaker 2: talking about?
- 53:43Speaker 3: Joel?
- 53:44Speaker 2: But the sound effect was so weird. It was like
- 53:46Speaker 2: it sounds like some she was being attacked from outside.
- 53:50Speaker 6: That was the bottom of massage oil.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Something broke ken, something on her sink broke, but the
- 53:59Speaker 2: sound effect was just a bizarre choice. I thought, Joelle,
- 54:03Speaker 2: do we have a guest. Let's bring them in. Can
- 54:05Speaker 2: we take a question here from from one of our
- 54:08Speaker 2: lovely listener fans. They come into the room, You're about
- 54:11Speaker 2: to be about to meet them, and then they ask
- 54:14Speaker 2: us a question.
- 54:15Speaker 1: Banks, Bank smoking that loud? Bangs smoking that loud?
- 54:20Speaker 8: Oh my gosh, Banks smoking that loud?
- 54:25Speaker 2: Banks, are you exhaling marijuana as you ask us a question?
- 54:30Speaker 3: Yes? I did have a couple of questions.
- 54:32Speaker 1: No, but that's not.
- 54:35Speaker 2: That sounds like that, sounds like that?
- 54:37Speaker 1: Yes, Banks, you smoking that loud right now?
- 54:40Speaker 2: Why are you call it loud?
- 54:41Speaker 1: I never heard that, because it's it's loud and stinky. Baby.
- 54:45Speaker 2: But Banks, all three of the cast members of Scrubs
- 54:48Speaker 2: that you have and enjoy the occasional use of cannabis.
- 54:52Speaker 2: So it seems like you're the appropriate guest for this
- 54:54Speaker 2: episode because we just watched you exhale a giant cloud
- 54:57Speaker 2: of smoke.
- 54:58Speaker 1: That shit was like a rat. That's it was like
- 55:00Speaker 1: a Snoop DOGG video dog That's it was for real,
- 55:04Speaker 1: for real, man, you took a big ass hit off
- 55:07Speaker 1: of something.
- 55:09Speaker 3: Zach you have a shirt.
- 55:10Speaker 2: This is burned, Yes, sir, burn it, burn it burning,
- 55:13Speaker 2: because I'm gonna burn one downn If you don't like
- 55:17Speaker 2: my fire, then don't come around, because I'm gonna burn
- 55:20Speaker 2: one down.
- 55:22Speaker 1: All right? It was no doubt? Is that og was
- 55:25Speaker 1: that og? Cush was? What was that was? Was that you?
- 55:28Speaker 3: No? I was told it was purple diesel?
- 55:32Speaker 1: Okay, so mixture of sour diesels purple diesel?
- 55:37Speaker 2: Ken, do you still partake every now and then?
- 55:40Speaker 6: You know when you reach eighty you don't need to
- 55:44Speaker 6: because you it's sort of like it's a perpetual filled thing.
- 55:49Speaker 6: It just gets utterly filled up and there's no need
- 55:53Speaker 6: to bother your lungs about it because it's just always there.
- 55:56Speaker 6: Your full.
- 55:58Speaker 2: So you smoked enough so that you're just good. You're
- 56:01Speaker 2: you're high, You're high enough for the rest of your life.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Well you did that?
- 56:04Speaker 6: Or I was walking around Donald.
- 56:13Speaker 1: My lips a purple, Now, Ken, they used to be paint.
- 56:15Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying.
- 56:16Speaker 2: Donald is salivating Banks. All right, Banks, you have a
- 56:21Speaker 2: question for us. We have Ken Jenkins on the show today,
- 56:24Speaker 2: Donald Faison and Zach Brast.
- 56:27Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 56:27Speaker 3: I just watched the episode Ken was hilarious.
- 56:30Speaker 4: A right.
- 56:32Speaker 3: My wallet?
- 56:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 56:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 56:36Speaker 11: So my question about the show is, if you guys
- 56:39Speaker 11: could recast, who would you cast as who?
- 56:44Speaker 1: If I could recast myself, I'll just say.
- 56:46Speaker 3: You could recast the whole show.
- 56:48Speaker 1: I don't want to do that, but if I can
- 56:49Speaker 1: recast it. I loved working with everybody, and I think
- 56:51Speaker 1: everybody is really good on this show. And I can't
- 56:53Speaker 1: see anybody else playing the characters that we played. But
- 56:57Speaker 1: if I could recast myself, there are like three people
- 57:00Speaker 1: that I think could have done a great job if
- 57:04Speaker 1: timing was on their side.
- 57:07Speaker 2: Denzel Well, I mean, come on.
- 57:09Speaker 1: Man, I feel like I feel like if timing was
- 57:13Speaker 1: on his side, Jillie White would have made a great
- 57:16Speaker 1: Christopher Turk. By like, he would have crushed that role
- 57:21Speaker 1: as Christopher Turk if timing were if timing were right
- 57:24Speaker 1: on his side. I feel like Damon Wayne's junior, if
- 57:29Speaker 1: he were older back then, he would have crushed Christopher Turk.
- 57:34Speaker 1: He would have done such a great job as Christopher Turk.
- 57:37Speaker 1: And Uh, I think those two people and when it
- 57:40Speaker 1: comes to playing that character, if I could recast Chris Turk,
- 57:47Speaker 1: and it couldn't be me. I would take those two people.
- 57:51Speaker 2: Okay, I was just thinking as Donald was answering because
- 57:55Speaker 2: I zoned out. His answer was so boring, and I think.
- 57:58Speaker 1: That Sosia face.
- 58:01Speaker 2: I was thinking Ben Platt would be a good JD. Uh.
- 58:04Speaker 2: He's a funny, young, nerdy character actor, and he's very
- 58:10Speaker 2: talented and he can sing his ass off, not that
- 58:13Speaker 2: JD was required to sing too much. How about you, Ken?
- 58:17Speaker 2: Can you think of another actor who could have I
- 58:18Speaker 2: don't know, no one could replace the legendary Ken Jenkins, but.
- 58:21Speaker 6: I wouldn't want to put anybody else through nine years
- 58:24Speaker 6: of that?
- 58:32Speaker 2: All right, what about another one? Banksy?
- 58:36Speaker 3: Banksy is fine, Banko is cool.
- 58:38Speaker 12: Tookos Oh, this is non scrub related, Donald, I want
- 58:43Speaker 12: to know, like, because you know, I'm from New York too,
- 58:46Speaker 12: so like I've kind of followed your career, like.
- 58:49Speaker 3: You know, you're always always a grooms man, never a
- 58:51Speaker 3: groom really like kind of in the back, like but
- 58:54Speaker 3: you know.
- 58:54Speaker 11: Clueless, Uh, sugar Hill and all that things like that,
- 58:59Speaker 11: who in Hollywood and you and you? Who in Hollywood
- 59:03Speaker 11: did you did you serve up the most on the court?
- 59:05Speaker 3: Like?
- 59:06Speaker 1: Who in Hollywood did I serve up the most on
- 59:08Speaker 1: the court. Uh, a lot of people. There are a
- 59:12Speaker 1: lot of people that have gotten they ass busted by me,
- 59:16Speaker 1: and then there are a lot of people that are
- 59:17Speaker 1: busted my ass, Like you know.
- 59:19Speaker 3: The most famous of the two. I wanted that question.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead.
- 59:25Speaker 2: Does he mean like in a metaphor in the acting
- 59:30Speaker 2: world or on the basketball court?
- 59:31Speaker 1: On the basketball court?
- 59:33Speaker 2: No, I don't know if that's what he means. Thanks,
- 59:34Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 59:35Speaker 3: I mean on the basketball court?
- 59:36Speaker 1: Okay, shutting out, thank you, and you stay quiet, do
- 59:43Speaker 1: you understand?
- 59:44Speaker 2: Yes, sir, I'm sorry.
- 59:46Speaker 1: So Leonardo DiCaprio is the most famous person that I've
- 59:49Speaker 1: ever served on the basketball court. Him an Toby Maguire
- 59:52Speaker 1: on the same team gave them the business. And this
- 59:54Speaker 1: was back, dude, This was back when I couldn't play
- 59:57Speaker 1: basketball that well. Right, This was me coming to LA
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: and being put in the league and then seeing Leo
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: and Toby and being like, oh, they're gonna get it today,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And I don't even score
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: a lot of points, but we beat the crap out
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: of they had like they had a they had a
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: squad in this entertainment league that we played in, and
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: we beat them. In the playoffs, we got them in
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: the first round, and when we played them during the season,
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: we beat them. Anyway, we have a question. I told
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: you to shut up.
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: Sorry, I'm just I'm.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Sorry, it's so funny, but I also don't want to
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: talk now. I told you to shut up. Did Leo
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: invite you back to his game? Because I always hear
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: about these celebrity games where when someone comes in and
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: they kick ass like you probably did that they and
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: they'll get invited back that you got to watch how
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: good you are?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Right? So that happened to me. That happened to me. Well,
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: so one time I played ball with Toby and a
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: bunch of his buddies at somebody's house. I don't know
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: who it was, but Harley Pasterneck invited me. Harley Passon
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: next to celebrity trainer. Celebrity trainer, right, and we told you.
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: Had said bananas or sugar sticks, go ahead.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Right, And and I've run into him. You know, He's
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: invited me to a bunch of games to play with
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: other celebrities because he knew I loved basketball. So I
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: played with Kanye West, I played with Common, I played
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: with all of these people, right, And he invited me
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: one time to play basketball with Toby, and I remember
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Toby Maguire was like, I don't want to be on
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: his team because I'm not going to have fun playing
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: on his team. And I took offense to it. And
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I remember when I got there and I listen, you
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: talk about smoking a lot aloud. I had smoked so
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: much read when I got there before I got there, right,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: and so I'm stoned out of my mind. And he's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: like and he's like, I don't want to play with
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: him because I'm not gonna have fun. And I was like, oh, okay, fine,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: you got it. And I proceeded to bust their ass
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: on their court and I never got invited back.
- 1:02:15Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to be not too good, right. That's
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: the trick to play with fancy celebrities, right.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: You have to make it feel like they can they
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: can compete on your level. If they can't compete on
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: your level, you got to make you have to bring
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: them up to your level. You gotta be like the
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Lebron James of the thing where you score buckets, but
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: you make them feel like they're doing their thing. Another time,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: hold up, I was in Miami and Leo and Toby
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: invited me to hang out with them, and this was
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: one of the biggest moments of my life. You know
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: what I mean as a young actor. To me, Leonardo
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: DiCaprio is the best actor in the world. I love
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: everybody out there. I think everybody does a great job.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: But for me, Leo is my age, and I think
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: he's the best at my like, I don't think anybody
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: better than him. And since you know, when it comes
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: to my peers, people that are my age, right. And
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: so we're in Miami and we go down to this
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: little basketball court and it's me, Leo and Toby on
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: the same team, and we play against you know, some
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: Floridians on uh it's three on three game and we win,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: and I, you know, I remember, and I remember thinking,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: you know, I've arrived. I played ball with Leo, I
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: played ball with Toby. We were on the same team.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: It happened. I'm gonna be in the next Spider Man.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: I could feel it. I was wrong because right the
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: next time I played ball with Toby, he said, I
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: don't think I'd have fun playing on this team. In
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: my mind, I was like, well, we kicked ass in Miami, baby,
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: We had a thing. We did that thing in Miami,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: all right. So those are the people who when it
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: comes to basketball, those are the two people that I've
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: given the business, Leonardo DiCaprio and Miami Leonorda to On,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Tomy maguire. When it comes to getting my ass busted,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: there are quite a few entertainers out there who can
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: really ball. Michael B. Jordan is nice, Jesse Williams nice.
- 1:04:11Speaker 11: These dudes up. I mean, I'm a heavy NBA celebrity
- 1:04:15Speaker 11: game historian, and someone like Michael B.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: Jordan, I think I I'm.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: Telling you right now. I'm telling you right now. It's
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: a big difference when you're under those lights, though. Man,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: it's a big, big, big difference. And the ball isn't
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: the real ball. It's not. It's not like anything you've
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: ever played with.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: And why isn't the ball a real ball in the
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: celebrity games.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Because it has to look it's shiny, and it has
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: you know, it has a bunch of it doesn't feel
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: the same way, right, And so.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: I love that grit, that normal grit we usually have
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: when we play.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Michael B. Jordan, Jesse Williams, Brian mcnight, James, Yeah, James Leguore.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I'm trying to I'm leaving some people out there.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: Supposed to be really good.
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: There's so much younger than me that I've never had
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: the like when.
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: You were playing, when you were playing actively in these
- 1:05:05Speaker 2: celebrity leagues, who was the best? Who is? Who would
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: you pick number one on your team of people?
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: We know it's either Brian McKnight or James Lazure. Those
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: two are like, Brian mknight understands basketball right. James Lazure
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: he doesn't have to he doesn't have to score, you know,
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: forty points to win. He would average a triple double
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: every game we played, and you'd look at it and
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: be like, damn, you know, he didn't take a lot
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: of shots, but he had ten points. And I don't
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: think he passed the ball to me that much. But look, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: I just had to look at who was right that
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: that dude is that dude can ball? Mike Yeah. But
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: but the two that are the two, the three that
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: are really good in my opinion are James Lezure, Brian mckknight,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: and Michael B. Jordan.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: Okay, well are you having everyone? Uh Donald the celebrity
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: basketball player, How's How's the Doulay Hill.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Deulay is not a real He's not a He's not
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: that big of That's another person who could have played
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: Turk as Delay Hill if circumstances were correct. But uh,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Delay is not White. Jalil is dope. Jalil cabal too.
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: That's another one. That's another one. But I gave and
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: Jalil knows it. I gave him the business one summer league.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: We had a we had a Nike Summer league, and
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: I gave him the business and he knows it, and
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: to this day, every time, if I ever I mean,
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I don't play basketball anymore. But from that point on,
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: if I did play Jialil white, he was extra aggressive
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: when it came to guarding me, and if I was
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: guarding him to showing me, Yo, that was a fluke, dude,
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: you ain't never gonna do it again. But I gave
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: him the business one game, so much so that you know,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: when people are staring at you and you're acting like
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: you can't see them staring at you. I felt the
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: I felt the burn in my peripheral while he's sitting
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: on the bench after I filed his ass out, burning
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: into my free.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Do they still do this celebrity basketball thing.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't play basketball no more.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: No I'm saying they do, okay right now, I mean
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: in non COVID, in non COVID times, I wonder if
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: it was still a thing.
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: I don't play basketball like that anymore. But it's a
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: big difference when it gets on television and the announcers
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: and the TV timeouts and all of that stuff. It's
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: not the same game, you know what I mean, your rhythms.
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: You have to be hot going in and just stay
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: hot because your rhythms are off and you can't play
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: your way into games like that my opinion.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: All right, Well, for anyone who tuned out for the
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: last ten minutes, this is.
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: Ken.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Just Ken took a brief nap. Ken, Ken took a
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: brief nap. But we're back banks. Thank you man. Those
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: were good questions. This great and we appreciate you. And
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: you inspired uh Donald's to go have some purple diesel.
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: Well, it's not gonna be purple diesel. It might be that. Listen, man,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: it might be that.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: Lookout, it might be done out.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: It's my birthday.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: You want to count out? Go ahead?
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: Happy first of all, happy birthday.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: Thank you, happy birthday. How old are you?
- 1:08:16Speaker 3: Thirty two?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Are you young?
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: And all right?
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: The show's not quite over yet, but we'll tell you
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: what we're gonna do. Well, I guess we kind of
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: did it right. We don't have anything else to talk about.
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: I mean, we're ken. Is there anything else you wanted
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: to say?
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: Yeah, you have to say how good Johnny Castle is?
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: Absolutely Ken, you know what, Absolutely, You're absolutely right.
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: You're right, Ken. Johnny Castle doesn't get enough appreciation. He
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: plays Doug, the nervous guy, and he was always very,
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: very funny and always had his little red fanny pack on.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: And it's always the butt of Kelso and Cox's jokes.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: They and some of the best one liners, like you
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: know when he's like, my family lives in uh you'll
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: see them. Yeah, my family lives in Brina. You'll see
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: them around the holiday.
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: Christmas wort right.
- 1:09:10Speaker 6: Right right, right, right right, And he's he snaps off
- 1:09:13Speaker 6: those ends when when Johnny is always chasing him off,
- 1:09:17Speaker 6: go go, go go, he snaps those ends off so
- 1:09:21Speaker 6: crisply too.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so Ken, Uh, I just want to say
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: thank you for doing this. Uh, Donald and I talk
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: about a lot. How much. We we love you and
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: miss you and uh, and we were both really really
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: excited that you wanted to do.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: This, you know, and also you are the m v
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: P of our show. You were talking earlier about how
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: you felt you were so broad and everything like that
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: and you needed to pull it back. But I personally
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: watching you, feel like you were so natural and you
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: were able to bring a natural element to slapstick and
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: broad comedy. And as much as you're like, I feel
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: like I was all. I was all with the top.
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: I personally, uh, I it's it's it. I I disagree
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: with you, honestly. I think you are right in the
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: pocket and you crush it every time. And I think
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: that's why it started off as Kelso being the bad guy,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: and as we moved forward, Kelso all of a sudden
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: was telling all of the great jokes and had all
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of the great one liners. And so that's just my
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: that's just time.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: I gotta tell you, the only reason that I agreed
- 1:10:31Speaker 6: to come on and do this with you guys was
- 1:10:34Speaker 6: the hopes that you would say some wonderful bullshit like.
- 1:10:37Speaker 13: That, Okay, nobody talk, we can't nobody talk.
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: We can't beat that. We can't beat that. That's how
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: you end the show. Thank you, Ken Banks.
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: Count us out.
- 1:10:56Speaker 9: We made at Im was a nurses Tana Canada who
- 1:11:02Speaker 9: loved me. I said, He's a story not all should know.
- 1:11:08Speaker 9: So gander around you, here ur gatherer around you, here
- 1:11:12Speaker 9: our Scots, we watch your wizz and
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: M h
