- 0:16To love letters. Welcome to Love Letters from
- 1:06God. We're going to read from the
- 1:09book of Psalms today about 3 different psalms and they're all
- 1:14kind of short psalms but a bit a little preaching before we do
- 1:19this Psalm. There's a verse in Proverbs, and
- 1:23we've read this before when we were going through the book of
- 1:27Proverbs, but I wanted to mention it again right now, and
- 1:32it's talking about you and me. When we do something stupid, we
- 1:40do something foolish and how God handles that situation.
- 1:47The references in Proverbs 19 and three and it says a person's
- 1:53own folly leads to their ruin, yet their heart rages against
- 2:02the Lord. That's Proverbs 19 and 3.
- 2:09All of us at one time or another feel pain.
- 2:19Pain takes on a all kinds of different forms.
- 2:26It can be physical pain, but more often it's an emotional
- 2:34pain. Sometimes we lie, we don't tell
- 2:43the truth, and we cause pain in our lives.
- 2:51Sometimes we let our temper get out of control, and then we have
- 2:59to have help to get out of the mess that we got ourselves in.
- 3:05Because of all of that, sometimes we can get angry with
- 3:12God about what happens to us. Why couldn't God has stopped
- 3:19whatever it is that brought all the pain?
- 3:23Why couldn't He have prevented prevented us from making some
- 3:29kind of a stupid decision? That particular proverb says
- 3:39that we often are angry with the Lord about the decisions that we
- 3:45have made ourselves. But you know, we're not pawns.
- 3:54God does not move us as he decides to do.
- 4:02He gives you and me freedom to move in the way we want to move.
- 4:10And sometimes we move the wrong way.
- 4:14We make wrong decisions, and sometimes we make good ones too.
- 4:20But in all of the various circumstances that we live in,
- 4:26we are responsible ourselves before God for the choices we
- 4:33make. And yet He is the loving Lord
- 4:42regardless of what decisions we make and do.
- 4:48He is a loving Lord who overwhelms us with His love.
- 4:56And when we do make these wrong choices, we don't blame the Lord
- 5:02but or we shouldn't. But we need to bow down in
- 5:08confession before Him, and we know that our Lord knows our
- 5:17weaknesses and He will forgive us.
- 5:22And He does this because Christ paid for those wrong choices
- 5:30that we make too many times. With those thoughts in mind,
- 5:37we're going to read these three Psalms that kind of talk about
- 5:46the same sort of thing. The first one is Psalms 2.
- 5:51Some people think that this particular Psalm may have been
- 5:54written by Solomon, but I don't know for sure.
- 5:59But let's read it. Why do the nations rage, and the
- 6:05people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set
- 6:10themselves, and the rulers take counsel together against the
- 6:16Lord and against his anointed, saying, Let's break their bonds
- 6:22and pieces, and castaway their cords from us.
- 6:29That he who sits in the heavens shall laugh.
- 6:34The Lord shall hold him in derision, and then he shall
- 6:37speak to them in his wrath, and distress them in his deep
- 6:41displeasure. Yet I have set my king on my
- 6:47holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree.
- 6:52The Lord has said to me, You are my Son today I have begotten
- 6:59you. Ask of me, and I will give it to
- 7:03you. The nations for your
- 7:06inheritance, and the ends of the earth for your possession.
- 7:11You should break them with a rod of iron.
- 7:14You should dash them to pieces like a Potter's vessel.
- 7:19Now, therefore be wise, O kings, be instructed you judges of the
- 7:26earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and
- 7:30rejoice with trembling. Kiss the sum lest he be angry,
- 7:35and you perish in the way when his wrath is kindled but a
- 7:40little. Blessed are all those who put
- 7:44their trust in Him. That's Psalms 2.
- 7:49Jump over now to Psalms 20. May the Lord answer you in the
- 7:58day of trouble. May the name of the God of Jacob
- 8:02defend you. May He send you help from the
- 8:07sanctuary and strengthen you out of Zion.
- 8:11May He remember all of your offerings and accept your burnt
- 8:17sacrifice. May He grant you according to
- 8:20your heart's desire and fulfill all of your purpose.
- 8:26We will rejoice in your salvation and in the name of our
- 8:31God, we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your
- 8:35petitions. Now I know that the Lord saves
- 8:40his anointed. He will answer him from His holy
- 8:44heaven with the saving strength of his right hand.
- 8:49Some trust in Chariots, some in horses, but we will remember the
- 8:55name of the Lord our God. They have bowed and down and
- 9:01fallen, but we have risen and stand upright, save Lord.
- 9:09May the King answer us when we call.
- 9:12That's Psalm 20. Let's continue on in Psalm 21.
- 9:18The King shall have joy in your strength, O Lord, and in your
- 9:22salvation. How greatly shall he rejoice?
- 9:27You have given him his heart's desire, and you've not withheld
- 9:31the request of his lips, for you meet him with the blessings of
- 9:36goodness. You set a crown of pure gold
- 9:40upon his head. He asked life from you, and you
- 9:45gave it to him. Length of days, forever and
- 9:48ever. His glory is great in your
- 9:53salvation. Honor and majesty you have
- 9:58placed upon him, for you have made him most blessed forever.
- 10:06You have made him exceedingly glad with your presence.
- 10:12For the King trusts in the Lord, and through the mercy of the
- 10:15Most High he should not be moved.
- 10:18Your hand will find all your enemies, your right hand will
- 10:23find those who hate you. You shall make them as a fiery
- 10:28oven in the time of your anger. The Lord should swallow them up
- 10:33in his wrath, and the fire should devour them.
- 10:37Their offspring you should destroy from the earth, and
- 10:41their descendants from among the sons of men, for they intended
- 10:46evil against you. They devised a plot which
- 10:50they're not able to perform. Therefore you will make them
- 10:55turn their back, and you will make ready your arrows on your
- 10:59strength toward their faces. Be exalted, O Lord, in your own
- 11:05strength we will sing and praise your power.
- 11:11So that's Psalm #22 yes, the Lord knows when you make
- 11:19mistakes, but He loves you. Let's have a prayer, God of
- 11:26grace and our follies before you and you knowing that it was
- 11:41forgiven for the sake of Christ. We know that you forgives us and
- 11:51we're so thankful for that. We pray that in Jesus name,
- 11:57Amen. And that's it for today.
