- 0:00Speaker 1: Setting those smart, challenging goals. Regardless of how many times
- 0:05Speaker 1: I have to pivot on my way to the top
- 0:08Speaker 1: of that goal, to that finish line, It's worth it
- 0:10Speaker 1: every single time.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Hey everyone, Emily Aboudy here bringing.
- 0:27Speaker 1: You another installment of Hurdle Moment from Hurdle and I
- 0:31Speaker 1: feel the need to do two things. One, reintroduce this
- 0:36Speaker 1: segment and also maybe give a few top highlights about me,
- 0:42Speaker 1: this woman that you are listening to. First things first,
- 0:46Speaker 1: Hurdle Moment. I started this because I knew that there
- 0:48Speaker 1: were a lot of topics that I wanted to cover
- 0:51Speaker 1: on the show that weren't naturally always going to come
- 0:55Speaker 1: up in the regular interviews that I typically launch at
- 1:00Speaker 1: the beginning of the week. I wanted to focus the
- 1:03Speaker 1: original format on the show, this interview format, dedicating that
- 1:07Speaker 1: space and that time to the guests and their backstories
- 1:12Speaker 1: and their hurdles and what they've learned along the way.
- 1:15Speaker 2: So that is when I had this idea to launch
- 1:19Speaker 2: also on Wednesdays.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Now, if you're a big follower of the show, you
- 1:22Speaker 1: know that now the show is three times weekly launches
- 1:25Speaker 1: typically Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, with the five minute Friday series,
- 1:30Speaker 1: and I really have come to enjoy all three for
- 1:37Speaker 1: their individual awesomeness. It's kind of like having three different children.
- 1:43Speaker 1: And so again, the purpose of Hurdle Moment is to
- 1:46Speaker 1: talk through what might be more evergreen topics episodes that
- 1:51Speaker 1: you can go back to from time to time depending
- 1:54Speaker 1: on what's going on in your life, and gain knowledge
- 1:58Speaker 1: to help you move through your life.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I'm just trying to continue to help you along in
- 2:03Speaker 2: your journey.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Topics that have come up on Hurdle Moment in the
- 2:07Speaker 1: past literally range from how to find your power alone,
- 2:12Speaker 1: to how to be more productive, to tips for navigating
- 2:17Speaker 1: cold weather workouts, some really popular episodes my marathon recaps,
- 2:21Speaker 1: so obviously, I mean I just covered a wide span
- 2:24Speaker 1: of topics. There's a lot that happens here in the
- 2:26Speaker 1: feed on Wednesdays as you are listening today, as you
- 2:30Speaker 1: are listening always, if you ever have suggestions for a
- 2:34Speaker 1: Pertle Moment topic, something that you want to learn more about.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I am all ears as this franchise.
- 2:40Speaker 1: As this part of the show has evolved over the
- 2:42Speaker 1: last few months, I have been bringing in more and
- 2:45Speaker 1: more experts to dive into popular topics like adaptagens, and gut,
- 2:51Speaker 1: health and mindfulness and so much more so.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I love doing those interviews. I love bringing you the
- 2:57Speaker 2: stuff that you want. And I am.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Always all years a little on me really quickly. I'm
- 3:03Speaker 1: talking about myself here all of the time, but I
- 3:06Speaker 1: guess that is what happens when it's your show again.
- 3:10Speaker 2: My name is Emily.
- 3:11Speaker 1: I am a freelance journalist, a podcaster, a wellness coach.
- 3:16Speaker 2: I live currently on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
- 3:19Speaker 1: I have been here for almost ten years come April.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It has been a wild ride, especially over the last
- 3:28Speaker 1: year in COVID, but one that I wouldn't trade for anything.
- 3:31Speaker 1: New York is my home. I'm still so happy here
- 3:34Speaker 1: to this day. When I mentioned to be a freelance journalist,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I write in edit content everywhere from GQ to Men's Health,
- 3:43Speaker 1: Women's Health, Well and Good. So many different outlets. They
- 3:47Speaker 1: have a wellness or a health or a fitness vertical.
- 3:49Speaker 1: It is pretty likely I've probably pitched them an idea
- 3:53Speaker 1: in the past. Other highlights about me. As you may
- 3:56Speaker 1: or may not know, I am a big athlete now
- 4:01Speaker 1: these days, although I believe if you have a body,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you are an athlete. But back in college, I weighed
- 4:06Speaker 1: seventy pounds more than I do now, and a big
- 4:09Speaker 1: part of that weight loss journey was developing a relationship
- 4:13Speaker 1: with the sport.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Of running and really learning to love running.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So I've recorded episodes on so many of these different
- 4:19Speaker 1: aspects of me and my life, and I will link
- 4:21Speaker 1: to everything career, weight loss, and running in the show
- 4:25Speaker 1: notes for.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You to give a listen on today's episode. It's so funny.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I mean, I've been launching a ton of great content
- 4:31Speaker 1: over the past few weeks with so many awesome guests,
- 4:34Speaker 1: but I haven't taken the time to check in myself
- 4:38Speaker 1: or have a solo episode in some while, which is
- 4:41Speaker 1: it's funny because I for so long was so hesitant
- 4:44Speaker 1: on the solo episode format, but in the Hurdle listener
- 4:48Speaker 1: feedback survey, y'all seem to really enjoy when I just
- 4:51Speaker 1: sit down with the mic.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So I'm here to hopefully continue that this year and.
- 4:56Speaker 1: Give you what you want and make the most of
- 4:59Speaker 1: your time that you are giving me in return.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Anyway, started rambling a little.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Bit today's episode, I'm going to be talking through goals
- 5:07Speaker 1: for the show going forward and offering up some of
- 5:11Speaker 1: my biggest takeaways from the podcast over the last year,
- 5:15Speaker 1: and finishing off by answering some listener.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Questions I got recently.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Thank you so much for staying in the loop with me,
- 5:23Speaker 1: for keeping up with me really going into this new year,
- 5:26Speaker 1: it means so so much. After three years of Hurdle,
- 5:31Speaker 1: I'm staring at a silver Milar balloon right now as
- 5:34Speaker 1: I record this. I didn't really even know where I
- 5:38Speaker 1: was going when I started, and now I can't imagine
- 5:43Speaker 1: my life without the show and without this community. So
- 5:46Speaker 1: thank you for empowering me to show up here day
- 5:49Speaker 1: in and day out. I am looking forward to what
- 5:54Speaker 1: the next twelve months will bring and excited.
- 5:58Speaker 2: To catch up a little bit today.
- 6:00Speaker 1: So at Emily Body at Hurdle Podcast and with that,
- 6:04Speaker 1: let's get to hurdling. Just like I feel, I am
- 6:24Speaker 1: a forever work in progress, this show is definitely the same.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I want to lead off today by talking about my
- 6:35Speaker 1: goals for the show going forward. As I mentioned, currently
- 6:41Speaker 1: launching three times a week, and when I started this
- 6:45Speaker 1: in March or April of last year, I did not
- 6:48Speaker 1: think that it would be a cadence that I would
- 6:51Speaker 1: be able to keep up with. Nevertheless, keep for as
- 6:54Speaker 1: long as I have. At this time, I'm still planning
- 6:57Speaker 1: on continuing forward with the three times a week, largely
- 7:02Speaker 1: in part because of the feedback from all of you
- 7:06Speaker 1: and that you enjoy the different types of episodes that
- 7:09Speaker 1: are coming here over to the feed. The first goal
- 7:12Speaker 1: to share with you is that my aim going forward
- 7:15Speaker 1: is to make Hurdle a little bit more well rounded
- 7:18Speaker 1: in all areas of wellness. I know that because of
- 7:22Speaker 1: my own individual interests and what's going on in my life,
- 7:25Speaker 1: sometimes this show can definitely skew really into the running category.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And I appreciate you, all of you, whether you like
- 7:33Speaker 1: to run or not, for sticking with me as I
- 7:36Speaker 1: kind of go into and dabble in this arena. But
- 7:39Speaker 1: it is important to me that I am covering all topics.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I want to be a place where you can find
- 7:47Speaker 1: accurate information on everything from weightlifting to hitting track repeats,
- 7:53Speaker 1: to mental health to who knows skin health? Like I
- 7:57Speaker 1: want to talk about it all, and so I'm really
- 7:59Speaker 1: looking forward to diving into maybe some things that I
- 8:03Speaker 1: haven't taken the time to do so much of before
- 8:07Speaker 1: and bringing you all along for the ride with me.
- 8:11Speaker 1: Also in terms of goals for the show. I want
- 8:13Speaker 1: to bring you well rounded content, but I also want
- 8:16Speaker 1: to continue to bring you well grounded guests. I made
- 8:20Speaker 1: it a really big priority to make sure that I
- 8:24Speaker 1: was seeking out guests of all different backgrounds and ethnicities
- 8:29Speaker 1: and occupations. Every time I launch a new season, I
- 8:32Speaker 1: really take stake of who's getting behind the mic with
- 8:34Speaker 1: me and.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Who I'm chatting with.
- 8:36Speaker 1: And I am really looking forward to some of the
- 8:40Speaker 1: names that I've already secured for the weeks and months
- 8:43Speaker 1: to come, related to the show or just related to
- 8:46Speaker 1: the Hurdle brand. I want to continue to grow the
- 8:50Speaker 1: Hurdle Secret Facebook group. If you're not a member, the
- 8:53Speaker 1: link to that is in the show notes. And I
- 8:54Speaker 1: also do want to continue to provide more education to
- 8:58Speaker 1: the community through Hurdle Sessions. Hurdle Sessions are a workshop
- 9:04Speaker 1: style series that I started during the COVID pandemic. It
- 9:08Speaker 1: is probably one of the things, one of the parts
- 9:11Speaker 1: of this brand that I'm the most passionate about, and
- 9:13Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to expanding that and bringing in
- 9:16Speaker 1: more people to the fold with me as I continue
- 9:19Speaker 1: to create that programming going forward, So stay tuned for
- 9:24Speaker 1: that from me and on like a real, real note
- 9:27Speaker 1: with goals for the show, I mean, I've got a
- 9:30Speaker 1: couple of big goals when it comes to how I
- 9:32Speaker 1: want to produce this thing and hopefully expanding my team
- 9:35Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. I have a ton of resumes
- 9:38Speaker 1: to read for potential hurdle interns, a position that will
- 9:41Speaker 1: be paid going into the new year. My goal is
- 9:45Speaker 1: to reach out to these individuals in the next week
- 9:48Speaker 1: or two and bring someone on for February. And I'm
- 9:52Speaker 1: also really looking to outsource some of this production and
- 9:55Speaker 1: some of what we're doing here. You know, I've been
- 9:58Speaker 1: saying the term We've been using the word we for
- 10:01Speaker 1: a long time, but for the last three years it's
- 10:03Speaker 1: just been me and it has been one hell of
- 10:05Speaker 1: a ride and an educational experience. But I am so
- 10:08Speaker 1: ready to accept that I need some help here, and
- 10:13Speaker 1: I'm putting out a lot of content and I am
- 10:15Speaker 1: trying to impact and help a lot of people, and
- 10:18Speaker 1: to do that, I'm going to need to release some
- 10:22Speaker 1: of this to some other hands. So I definitely want
- 10:25Speaker 1: to figure out what that looks like. I want to
- 10:27Speaker 1: do that soon, and I'm definitely looking forward to sharing
- 10:31Speaker 1: some of that process with all of you over here.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I do want to take a second to touch on
- 10:36Speaker 1: the Hurdle feedback survey, which I mentioned a few times
- 10:40Speaker 1: so far. Y'all are way too nice to me. Thank
- 10:42Speaker 1: you so much to those of you who took the
- 10:44Speaker 1: time to fill it out. When it comes to that feedback,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you all seem to like Mondays and Wednesdays and Fridays.
- 10:53Speaker 1: You also have loved the array of guests and are
- 10:56Speaker 1: interested in people who may have outside the box occupations,
- 11:01Speaker 1: something certainly to keep in mind going forward. Many of
- 11:05Speaker 1: you also had some interesting feedback on the ad reads.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I appreciate you for the way that you approached offering
- 11:13Speaker 1: this feedback. Many of you understanding why they exist, and
- 11:17Speaker 1: I just wanted to take a moment to reiterate why
- 11:20Speaker 1: the advertisements are in the podcast.
- 11:22Speaker 2: The sponsors are what support the show.
- 11:25Speaker 1: They are what make me capable of investing this much
- 11:29Speaker 1: time in this product, and I have never and will never.
- 11:34Speaker 1: This is my promise to you bring a sponsor to
- 11:38Speaker 1: the feed that I am not one hundred percent certain of.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I will never bring a product or sponsor to the feed.
- 11:46Speaker 1: That is something that I don't use myself, something that
- 11:50Speaker 1: I have not tried because I care way too much
- 11:53Speaker 1: about your well being and my audience to do anything otherwise.
- 11:59Speaker 1: This stuff, the stuff that you hear me talking about again,
- 12:02Speaker 1: all of it in my regular rotation, and many, many,
- 12:06Speaker 1: many times I have turned down potential partners because it
- 12:11Speaker 1: just didn't feel right. So when I talk about stuff here,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it's because I believe in them. It's because this stuff
- 12:18Speaker 1: makes me feel better, and I trust you to respect
- 12:22Speaker 1: me and.
- 12:22Speaker 2: My decision making to check them out.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I am passionate about bringing you the best deals I
- 12:27Speaker 1: can when it comes to them, so that you find
- 12:30Speaker 1: this information as useful as possible, at least within a
- 12:35Speaker 1: certain parameter. Also on a listener feedback note, I see
- 12:39Speaker 1: you want Michelle Obama, Simone Biles.
- 12:41Speaker 2: And Serena Williams on the podcast. Trust me, I am
- 12:46Speaker 2: doing the damn best I can.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Before we keep going today, I do want to take
- 12:57Speaker 1: a moment to thank my sponsor Element. If you have
- 13:02Speaker 1: been listening and following along, then you know that last
- 13:06Speaker 1: year I discovered Element and I have been hooked ever since.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Element is zero sugar hydration to support your healthy and
- 13:17Speaker 1: active body. I love it not just because it tastes great. Lately,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I cannot get enough of their chocolate salt flavor. But

- 13:29Speaker 1: other junk. They make grabbing go single serve packets, which
- 13:34Speaker 1: are super convenient if you're on the road or live

- 13:43Speaker 1: packet has a thousand milligrams of sodium, two hundred milligrams
- 13:47Speaker 1: of potassium, and sixty milligrams of magnesium. It is the
- 13:51Speaker 1: Goldilocks science backed electrolyte ratio and it's really great, especially
- 13:57Speaker 1: because potassium and magnesium they can be difficult to get
- 14:01Speaker 1: through a regular diet. So I'm super excited because I

- 15:09Speaker 1: com slash hurdle. That's drink Element dot com slash hurdle
- 15:13Speaker 1: to get yours today, No code necessary. So now we're
- 15:27Speaker 1: in the part where I talk to you about the
- 15:28Speaker 1: lessons I learned hurdling in twenty twenty. Okay, a few
- 15:33Speaker 1: of note the first one, I am more capable than
- 15:37Speaker 1: sometimes even I believe, and I'm not gonna front here
- 15:41Speaker 1: like I am certainly and have certainly been my own
- 15:44Speaker 1: biggest hype man for a while. Now. I find that
- 15:47Speaker 1: working for myself, I often really have no other option.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Like I need to believe in me so that I
- 15:55Speaker 1: can show up and create things and keep going and
- 15:58Speaker 1: make money and God all the things. But in twenty
- 16:02Speaker 1: twenty there were so many things that I just kind
- 16:05Speaker 1: of threw into the wind and experimented with because I
- 16:08Speaker 1: didn't know any better. I didn't have all the answers,
- 16:11Speaker 1: and I knew that if I didn't move forward and
- 16:13Speaker 1: sometimes fail forward, and go through these hurdle moments, then
- 16:17Speaker 1: I would just be lingering in a plateau, and that's
- 16:21Speaker 1: not where I like to be. So my first takeaway
- 16:23Speaker 1: when it comes to hurdle from twenty twenty is just
- 16:26Speaker 1: to continue to have an unwavering belief in myself. The
- 16:31Speaker 1: second lesson that I learned really is that vulnerability is
- 16:35Speaker 1: always going to be met with compassion, or at least
- 16:38Speaker 1: I mean when it comes to the right people. There
- 16:41Speaker 1: were a lot of times in twenty twenty when I
- 16:43Speaker 1: felt as though I, as a podcaster was like a
- 16:46Speaker 1: little bit stuck and I didn't have the right answers,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and I wanted to make everyone happy, or at least
- 16:52Speaker 1: my community happy, but wasn't sure exactly how to do that.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I would be, you know, sitting in my apartment wondering
- 16:58Speaker 1: if the content that I was putting out even mattered.
- 17:01Speaker 1: And oftentimes when I felt that way, I was open
- 17:04Speaker 1: and honest about it. I was open and honest about
- 17:07Speaker 1: the hiccups and the hurdles and the moments where I
- 17:10Speaker 1: felt unsure, and every time that I opened up with
- 17:14Speaker 1: all of you, it was met for the most part
- 17:17Speaker 1: with positivity. And so for me, just reiterating the importance
- 17:20Speaker 1: of vulnerability when it comes to community and connection going
- 17:24Speaker 1: forward and with all of you as an important lesson
- 17:27Speaker 1: is something that I cannot stress enough. Another big lesson
- 17:32Speaker 1: from twenty twenty when it came to hurdling is that
- 17:35Speaker 1: smart goals are better when they are challenging. I talk
- 17:39Speaker 1: about smart goals the acronym a lot, both here on
- 17:42Speaker 1: the feed and in the hurdle sessions specific, measurable, attainable, relevant,
- 17:47Speaker 1: and time bound. If a goal is something that you
- 17:51Speaker 1: can achieve really easily, I would argue that that goal
- 17:55Speaker 1: isn't the right goal for you. Setting challenging benchmarks for
- 18:00Speaker 1: myself when it came to everything from you know, traffic
- 18:04Speaker 1: goals to the guests that I was going after, I
- 18:07Speaker 1: never regretted doing that last year, and there were certainly
- 18:10Speaker 1: moments where I felt truly truly tested. I remember one
- 18:15Speaker 1: week in particular, I made twenty two different guest requests
- 18:20Speaker 1: and I got one yes one and that was a
- 18:25Speaker 1: really hard week. It's a really hard thing when you
- 18:28Speaker 1: so passionately want to do good things but feel like
- 18:32Speaker 1: you're just spinning your wheels time and time again. But
- 18:35Speaker 1: I believe that with hard work comes reward and good
- 18:39Speaker 1: karma always comes back around. And so for me setting
- 18:43Speaker 1: those smart, challenging goals, regardless of you know how many
- 18:48Speaker 1: times I have to pivot on my way to the
- 18:50Speaker 1: top of that goal, to that finish line, It's worth
- 18:53Speaker 1: it every single time.
- 18:54Speaker 2: And one last lesson.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I learned hurdling in twenty twenty is when you want
- 19:00Speaker 1: something bad enough, you go for it, you don't complain
- 19:04Speaker 1: about it. And actually that lesson that came from my
- 19:07Speaker 1: conversation with Ron boss Everline.
- 19:11Speaker 2: He's a celebrity trainer.
- 19:12Speaker 1: He's known very well for his work with Kevin Hart,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and he was talking about you know how he as
- 19:19Speaker 1: well felt like many times he was spinning his wheels,
- 19:22Speaker 1: and so often he would see other people in similar
- 19:26Speaker 1: situations to him, struggling and complaining, but rather like he realized, like, oh,
- 19:32Speaker 1: I'm in this position now where there are things that
- 19:35Speaker 1: are frustrating. I am in this position now where I
- 19:37Speaker 1: have so many of the things that I wanted and
- 19:40Speaker 1: I'm just at you know, this hurdle moment. You want
- 19:43Speaker 1: me to complain now, Like, no, that's not how it works.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Like if you want something, rather than complain about the process,
- 19:51Speaker 1: you keep going forward. And I just love that perseverance
- 19:56Speaker 1: that can do mentality, and it's something I definitely visit
- 20:02Speaker 1: time and time again when I feel like I am.
- 20:04Speaker 2: Just at a hurdle moment. Across Roads of sorts.
- 20:08Speaker 1: Finishing off today's installment of Hurdle Moment with answering a
- 20:13Speaker 1: few of your most popular questions. Question number one, No
- 20:19Speaker 1: matter how many times I watch you on social media,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I cannot get myself to be a morning workout person.
- 20:26Speaker 1: How can I become a morning exerciser? Listen, If you really, really,
- 20:33Speaker 1: really want to be a morning workout person, you just
- 20:35Speaker 1: have to commit to it. And there's nothing wrong if
- 20:39Speaker 1: you don't actually want to be a morning exerciser. You
- 20:43Speaker 1: need to commit to a wellness routine that works for you,
- 20:48Speaker 1: that inspires you. The last thing, whether it is with
- 20:52Speaker 1: exercise or any other thing you want to go after
- 20:56Speaker 1: in your life, is that you start doing something because
- 20:59Speaker 1: you see somebody else doing it and you're not inspired
- 21:02Speaker 1: by the thing that they're doing, you just think you
- 21:04Speaker 1: should be doing it. Never should yourself into anything. Instead,
- 21:11Speaker 1: set intentions and goals for yourself that inspire you and
- 21:15Speaker 1: motivate you so you genuinely want to become a morning exerciser. Again,
- 21:21Speaker 1: it is in the routine. It's in setting an alarm
- 21:24Speaker 1: if you need to do that. It's in around creating
- 21:27Speaker 1: a routine, creating habits that's around that workout that make
- 21:30Speaker 1: you feel excited and rejuvenated. For me, when I wake
- 21:34Speaker 1: up in the morning, now I'm at a place where
- 21:36Speaker 1: I do it without an alarm, usually by six or
- 21:40Speaker 1: six thirty. I'm then out of bed, I'm making an espresso,
- 21:44Speaker 1: i am journaling, and then it's straight into go mode.
- 21:47Speaker 1: It's getting dressed, heading to the gym, or heading out
- 21:50Speaker 1: for that run, and continuing this routine day after day
- 21:54Speaker 1: as my self imposed training schedule allows for because it
- 21:59Speaker 1: makes me feel happy, it makes me feel like myself.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Another question that came in, do you feel pressure to
- 22:06Speaker 1: work out daily even if you're not feeling it as
- 22:08Speaker 1: your brand is built on wellness?
- 22:10Speaker 2: The answer is no.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I at least take one full rest day each week
- 22:15Speaker 1: and one active rest day each week. So that means
- 22:18Speaker 1: that I'm typically hopping on the bike one day a
- 22:21Speaker 1: week if I'm not running, and the other day might
- 22:23Speaker 1: be something just some stretching and laying around the apartment
- 22:27Speaker 1: and hopping in my normal tech compression boots. I especially
- 22:31Speaker 1: as I'm adding more and more strength training back into
- 22:33Speaker 1: the fold here, it's a big focus of mine in
- 22:37Speaker 1: twenty twenty one. As I'm adding in more strength training,
- 22:40Speaker 1: I'm really listening to my body, and if it is
- 22:42Speaker 1: super super sore, then I'll definitely make time for a
- 22:46Speaker 1: walk to get that blood flowing. But really my priority
- 22:49Speaker 1: is recovering as best as I can and not overdoing it.
- 22:53Speaker 1: I understand that the bigger picture of wellness is treating
- 22:56Speaker 1: your body with kindness and grace, and also treating your
- 22:59Speaker 1: mind with kindness and grace. I want to be honest
- 23:03Speaker 1: with you. I'm definitely an active person, but I'm also
- 23:06Speaker 1: a realistic person, and I do the things that make
- 23:09Speaker 1: me feel good, not the things that I feel are
- 23:12Speaker 1: going to lead me to injury. Two more questions to
- 23:16Speaker 1: answer here, are you feeling more or less alone now
- 23:20Speaker 1: than you did at this time last year going into
- 23:23Speaker 1: the COVID pandemic? I want to say, I do want
- 23:26Speaker 1: to point out, if we're really being honest here, we
- 23:28Speaker 1: had a couple of months at this time last year
- 23:31Speaker 1: before we were fully into the COVID fold. But the
- 23:34Speaker 1: last year was a really big learning opportunity for me
- 23:38Speaker 1: on how to spend time alone and feel good with
- 23:42Speaker 1: that time, and take opportunity to at times be productive
- 23:46Speaker 1: with that time and at other points do absolutely nothing
- 23:50Speaker 1: with that time. I definitely am on this ever evolving
- 23:55Speaker 1: quest to hopefully find my LFE partner is something that
- 24:00Speaker 1: I definitely haven't given enough time over, I would say,
- 24:05Speaker 1: the last twelve months, and now I am making it
- 24:10Speaker 1: a priority in some ways that are within my control
- 24:14Speaker 1: to be better with that going forward. And so do I,
- 24:18Speaker 1: you know, hope for that for myself, And do I
- 24:20Speaker 1: hope that one day I'm going to have someone to
- 24:23Speaker 1: share all of this with.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Of course I do, But again, I'm grateful for what
- 24:26Speaker 2: I have.
- 24:28Speaker 1: I think I have a pretty level head about it all,
- 24:30Speaker 1: and I understand my worth beyond me just being alone.
- 24:34Speaker 1: And I also understand that it took me a long
- 24:36Speaker 1: time to get to this place, and if I'd found
- 24:39Speaker 1: that quote unquote right thing before, I'm not sure it
- 24:42Speaker 1: would have been the right thing for the woman that
- 24:44Speaker 1: I am today, So onward and upward. I know that
- 24:48Speaker 1: criticism or what feels like criticism sometimes from family and friends,
- 24:52Speaker 1: insinuating that you may be doing something wrong because you
- 24:56Speaker 1: are doing life solo at points be really frustrating. But
- 25:02Speaker 1: just believe that you're doing the best that you can
- 25:04Speaker 1: with what you have and that we're on our way
- 25:06Speaker 1: to something great. And the last question, what excites.
- 25:12Speaker 2: You right now?
- 25:13Speaker 1: To be honest with you, I'm really excited about the
- 25:15Speaker 1: possibility of moving in the middle of the year. This year,
- 25:19Speaker 1: my lease is a June one lease, and I'm looking
- 25:22Speaker 1: to hopefully kind of make the jump either downtown below
- 25:26Speaker 1: fourteenth Street or most likely Brooklyn in May. And that
- 25:32Speaker 1: potential and moving into a place where I have a
- 25:36Speaker 1: real kitchen and maybe even a separate office and recording space.
- 25:40Speaker 2: It makes me really giddy.
- 25:42Speaker 1: And I really believe that I've been manifesting this and
- 25:46Speaker 1: that a lot of things are starting to fall into
- 25:47Speaker 1: place to help me to be able to make that happen.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So I'm excitedly looking at this website called street easy
- 25:53Speaker 1: all the time and stalking apartments, but more so I'm
- 25:57Speaker 1: just proud of me for being in this place where
- 26:00Speaker 1: what I want finally feels like a really viable thing
- 26:04Speaker 1: that is out there for me. So thank you for
- 26:08Speaker 1: being a part of this community, for listening to me
- 26:11Speaker 1: unpack a bunch of stuff in this Hurdle Moment episode.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I am so so excited to continue this journey with
- 26:17Speaker 1: you in the new year. And like I said earlier,
- 26:20Speaker 1: if there's anything that you need, anything that I can
- 26:23Speaker 1: help you with, I'm always a dm away hurdle over
- 26:26Speaker 1: at Hurdle Podcasts, Emily me over at Emily a Body,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and of course over email it's Emily at hurdle dot Us.
