- 0:22Speaker 1: You're listening to Eagles postgain analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:24Speaker 1: Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports
- 0:27Speaker 1: podcast show in the world, over twelve and a half
- 0:29Speaker 1: years strong. And that's it, folks. The Philadelphia Eagles twenty
- 0:34Speaker 1: twenty five twenty twenty six season is now in the books.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The regular season, I should say that is they lose
- 0:41Speaker 1: to the Washington Commanders by a score twenty four to
- 0:44Speaker 1: seventeen the last game of the regular season at the Link.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Eagles are now eleven and six on this season. Quite
- 0:53Speaker 1: a regular season and quite an end to this regular
- 0:56Speaker 1: season against the Commanders. I'm Jeff Warren. I'm here my
- 0:59Speaker 1: buddy Josh Houster from Philadelphia soccernow dot com, filling in
- 1:02Speaker 1: for the guys as he has on so many weeks
- 1:04Speaker 1: this Eagle season. I appreciate you so much, my friend.
- 1:08Speaker 1: And by the way, I love your alshon, Jeffrey Jersey.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I love it. One of my favorite Eagles receivers of
- 1:13Speaker 1: all time.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I threatened last time that I was I was gonna
- 1:16Speaker 2: wear it as I talked about my beloved South Carolina Gamecocks,
- 1:21Speaker 2: you know, as I sat down on my sofa to
- 1:24Speaker 2: watch today yes, I said to myself, you know what,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I'm sure when the schedule release came out, they sat
- 1:30Speaker 2: around the table and they said, it's early January, the
- 1:34Speaker 2: last week of the season. Yeah, let's put Commanders Eagles
- 1:38Speaker 2: up against each other with the gusts of wind, the
- 1:42Speaker 2: chili weather.
- 1:43Speaker 3: For Josh Johnson.
- 1:45Speaker 4: And patar mckatie, Yes, yes, because they were like, that
- 1:51Speaker 4: is ratings right there, you know, I, you know, I
- 1:56Speaker 4: really don't think we're gonna get worked up over this one.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I don't think we are either. But he actually raise
- 2:00Speaker 1: a nice point there with the schedule makers of the NFL,
- 2:04Speaker 1: these type of games would be good for the seventeenth
- 2:07Speaker 1: week of the season, not the eighteenth week. How many
- 2:11Speaker 1: how many backups did we see throughout the NFL A
- 2:14Speaker 1: decent amount, some we did, some we didn't. But still
- 2:18Speaker 1: this is one of those games where, yeah, you had
- 2:21Speaker 1: two NFC, two teams in the NFC Championship Game last
- 2:25Speaker 1: year going up against each other, but if it was
- 2:28Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, I don't understand why the
- 2:30Speaker 1: schedule makers do this, but you're right, we got to
- 2:33Speaker 1: see Josh Johnson against Tanner McKee and WOA folks let's
- 2:38Speaker 1: talk about some of this stuff. In this game, boy,
- 2:41Speaker 1: Eagles are wearing their Kelly Green jerseys. That was nice
- 2:43Speaker 1: to see. Again, Tanner McKey is starting at quarterback. A
- 2:47Speaker 1: ton of the starters on offense sitting out this game,
- 2:50Speaker 1: not DeVante Smith coming into this week needing forty four
- 2:55Speaker 1: yards to get one thousand yards on the season, so
- 2:57Speaker 1: he was starting. I believe Tyler Steen was also starting
- 3:00Speaker 1: at right guard for part of the game. We also
- 3:03Speaker 1: saw on defense, we saw Jordan Davis out there, Nolan Smith,
- 3:06Speaker 1: Jaylex Hunt was out there. He was making plays throughout
- 3:08Speaker 1: the game. He actually had an interception which was fantastic.
- 3:12Speaker 1: And I gotta say, you know, before we get into
- 3:15Speaker 1: the Tanner McKee stuff in the Eagles quarterback situation and
- 3:19Speaker 1: certain narratives that we've heard throughout the year, I just
- 3:22Speaker 1: want to give some major props to Devonte Smith forgetting
- 3:27Speaker 1: to one thousand yards on the season here, and he
- 3:31Speaker 1: was only out there for a quarter. It was actually
- 3:33Speaker 1: one thousand and eight yards to be exact, So right
- 3:36Speaker 1: towards the end of the first quarter is when he
- 3:38Speaker 1: nailed that. At that point, he had three catches for
- 3:41Speaker 1: fifty two yards as long as twenty seven yards and
- 3:45Speaker 1: the Eagles now have yet again two one thousand yard
- 3:50Speaker 1: receivers with AJ Brown again Davante Smith. I love the
- 3:55Speaker 1: fact that this Eagles wide receiver core is what it
- 3:58Speaker 1: is with these two an and I just wanted to
- 4:02Speaker 1: say like that, that was nice to see that we
- 4:04Speaker 1: can actually look forward to something in this game. Is
- 4:08Speaker 1: somebody who I love and DeVante's Smith. I wears jersey
- 4:11Speaker 1: a lot doing our postgame shows here and throughout the week,
- 4:14Speaker 1: wears jersey. That was really nice to see, Josh, I
- 4:17Speaker 1: could actually look forward to that, Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 2: And Jeff, I mean there were gonna be some starters
- 4:22Speaker 2: that played just because numbers. Game like otherwise, unless you're
- 4:26Speaker 2: going to place a bunch of players on IR, which
- 4:27Speaker 2: then you can't activate for a while, you're gonna have
- 4:31Speaker 2: some starters in there. And they were yanked pretty quick
- 4:33Speaker 2: after that. I mean basically after the first quarter. It
- 4:35Speaker 2: literally was second and third string. Yes, And normally we
- 4:39Speaker 2: do a theme, like what you know, what kind of
- 4:41Speaker 2: theme are we thinking about it? For me, as I
- 4:44Speaker 2: look at this game, there's one theme and it is
- 4:47Speaker 2: questions answered.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Ooh, I like a lot of questions answered. I I
- 4:55Speaker 3: had touched you at the start.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I was hoping for like five hundred yards from Tanner
- 4:58Speaker 2: McKey just because I I wanted to live for sports
- 5:01Speaker 2: radio for a week, right, Like I just wanted to
- 5:03Speaker 2: hear the controversy, which to me is absurd. What's the
- 5:06Speaker 2: biggest I'm going to bring Dak Prescott in on this?
- 5:09Speaker 2: What's the biggest flaw of Dak Prescott that we talk
- 5:12Speaker 2: about all the time.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You just can't get it done, and in key moments
- 5:15Speaker 1: of the games can't get it.
- 5:17Speaker 3: You can't get it done.
- 5:18Speaker 2: He folds halfway, you know, through December through January.
- 5:23Speaker 3: Jaimen Hurts is the opposite.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So to even entertain a conversation about, you know, let's
- 5:28Speaker 2: bench the Super Bowl.
- 5:30Speaker 3: MVP for Tanner McKee was just ridiculous.
- 5:34Speaker 2: The second question that was answered for me, I don't
- 5:37Speaker 2: think we have a Jalen Hurts problem. We definitively have
- 5:40Speaker 2: a Kevin Petoolo problem. It is it is. I'll say
- 5:48Speaker 2: the same thing I said last week. It's like they
- 5:50Speaker 2: decide the night before what they're going to run. It
- 5:54Speaker 2: doesn't matter what the conditions are, it doesn't matter anything.
- 5:58Speaker 2: They're just gonna do this year. It's gonna be scripted
- 6:01Speaker 2: and and that's it.
- 6:04Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 6:05Speaker 2: I'm not like a huge tang big speed guy, right.
- 6:07Speaker 2: I'm not saying that we need to start him over Saquon.
- 6:10Speaker 2: But when someone is averaging like five yards of carry
- 6:12Speaker 2: and you have your backup quarterback in and you're running
- 6:15Speaker 2: with second and strength third string players, yep, run run
- 6:19Speaker 2: the ball. I'm not And Jeff you know this. I'm
- 6:22Speaker 2: not a big run the ball guy that got whatever's working. Right,
- 6:26Speaker 2: Like in the playoffs, I want the ball and Jalen
- 6:28Speaker 2: hurts his hands because he's clutch. I can trust him,
- 6:31Speaker 2: so I don't want them running the ball a time.
- 6:33Speaker 2: But in this case, like what you have third and
- 6:37Speaker 2: fourth down, third and one, fourth and one, imagine that
- 6:42Speaker 2: averaging five yards of carry.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yes, we're gonna throw it twice. Yes, I just I don't.
- 6:47Speaker 3: I need Jalen Hurts to start calling more audibles like
- 6:50Speaker 3: I can't.
- 6:52Speaker 1: Today, sometimes not allowing him to though. That's the thing,
- 6:55Speaker 1: like sometimes they are not based on the play that
- 6:58Speaker 1: is called and coming late. By the way the calls
- 7:01Speaker 1: are coming in late, then Jalen is unable to audible.
- 7:06Speaker 1: And sometimes he's just not allowed because the coaching staff
- 7:08Speaker 1: tells him he's not allowed.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, And for me, the biggest indictment on this game
- 7:14Speaker 2: is on two individuals. Tanner McKee, those hopes and dreams
- 7:18Speaker 2: of like a second round pick for him, just win
- 7:22Speaker 2: bye bye today.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Oh yeah.
- 7:24Speaker 2: And the second individual is Kevin Bittulo. Like every coordinator
- 7:29Speaker 2: will put a good driver or two or three together
- 7:32Speaker 2: a game like it's a blind and squirrel finds a nut, right,
- 7:36Speaker 2: like it's going to happen. So if they happen to
- 7:38Speaker 2: be three in a row, great, Yeah, but the rest
- 7:40Speaker 2: of the game was horrible, horrible play calling. The third
- 7:45Speaker 2: answer to me was this is why I wanted them
- 7:51Speaker 2: to rest players. And I'm okay with the three seed
- 7:55Speaker 2: because for me, because that was the debate all this week, Right,
- 7:57Speaker 2: do you start them to go for the two? If
- 7:59Speaker 2: you're you're going to have to face San Francisco or
- 8:03Speaker 2: Los Angeles, I would rather face them first. If I'm
- 8:06Speaker 2: going to have to beat either one of them to
- 8:08Speaker 2: move on, I would rather face them first with a
- 8:11Speaker 2: healthy roster, don't I don't want to play them the
- 8:14Speaker 2: second Week's a good point after playing the Packers, after
- 8:17Speaker 2: you've got potentially Injers and let's talk about the fact that,
- 8:19Speaker 2: like tonight they not have rested starters. We probably lose
- 8:23Speaker 2: Dallas got it for next week because I think it
- 8:26Speaker 2: was Calcaterra with the hip tackle.
- 8:28Speaker 3: He's he's done so like.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know that officially, but it didn't
- 8:33Speaker 2: look good and he's back in the locker room. Right.
- 8:36Speaker 2: They have offensive linemen that are hurt, so like, and
- 8:39Speaker 2: if you're continuing with the starters, starting offensive line, who's
- 8:42Speaker 2: already hurt and then offensive linemen got hurt today, Like,
- 8:47Speaker 2: just give me the healthy team facing probably your tougher
- 8:50Speaker 2: competition in the first round, and then I'll move on.
- 8:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't believe you just mentioned in folks, Josh
- 8:56Speaker 1: and I didn't really talk about a lot of this
- 8:59Speaker 1: before we got before we hit the record button. The
- 9:02Speaker 1: bizarre play call life. We did it. We did it.
- 9:05Speaker 1: We had a good therapy session prior to hing the cord,
- 9:08Speaker 1: but we really, I mean, the play calling is still ridiculous,
- 9:13Speaker 1: even even with these backups, and of course the play
- 9:15Speaker 1: calling is going to be the play calling. It's ridiculous.
- 9:17Speaker 1: It's bizarre. As always, there are so many question marks
- 9:20Speaker 1: and we're always so baffled. And the fact, especially in
- 9:24Speaker 1: the second quarter when the Eagles were right near the
- 9:27Speaker 1: goal line. You mentioned it, there was a third and one,
- 9:29Speaker 1: a then subsequent fourth and one, two pass plays. Meanwhile,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Tank Bigsby was averaging at that point five yards per carry.
- 9:39Speaker 1: He was averaging five yards per carry. And that's what
- 9:42Speaker 1: they did. That's what Kevin Petullo did. But what's interesting
- 9:46Speaker 1: is they come out in the second half and our
- 9:49Speaker 1: friend of the pod heard. Her name is April Hershey,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and April sometimes gets in touch with us some communicate
- 9:55Speaker 1: from her. She was happy about what Kevin Petulo was
- 9:58Speaker 1: doing in the third quarter. He said, did some alien
- 10:02Speaker 1: body snatcher stuff happen with Kevin Patullo tonight? Because I'm
- 10:06Speaker 1: seeing some effective and good offensive play calls, especially in
- 10:09Speaker 1: this third quarter. Was the secret that he needed to
- 10:12Speaker 1: call only for non starters. It's like, you know what,
- 10:15Speaker 1: There were some decent plays, but at the end of
- 10:17Speaker 1: the day, at the end of the day, we also
- 10:19Speaker 1: then saw in the fourth quarter a ton a ton
- 10:23Speaker 1: of play calls where you didn't have wide open receivers. Yes,
- 10:27Speaker 1: Tanner McKee did miss some receivers. He overthrew some receivers,
- 10:30Speaker 1: as well. Why because he's not Jalen Hurts and he's
- 10:33Speaker 1: not the greatest quarterback in the world, and there's no
- 10:35Speaker 1: way he should be starting over Jalen Herds. But because
- 10:37Speaker 1: the play calling was bad. There were receivers that just
- 10:40Speaker 1: were not open. And we've seen it week after week
- 10:42Speaker 1: after week in game and in key situations, especially when
- 10:47Speaker 1: they needed to get down the field. It's enraging. Yet
- 10:51Speaker 1: this team is still eleven and six and they're the
- 10:54Speaker 1: number three seed heading into this playoff picture here, it
- 11:00Speaker 1: really is astonishing to me. I want to move on
- 11:02Speaker 1: to the defensive side of the ball. Okay, okaycause we
- 11:05Speaker 1: got to talk about this as well before we get
- 11:08Speaker 1: to our break. I mean, the Eagles backup secondary, especially
- 11:12Speaker 1: the cornerback situation. Josh, it's not good. It's not good
- 11:17Speaker 1: at all. Yes, pass, I mean horrendous. It is horrendous, folks.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Pass interference calls in the end zone that helped out
- 11:26Speaker 1: the Commanders. If it wasn't for Jacoreyan Bennett, the Commanders
- 11:30Speaker 1: likely would not have won this game. In my opinion,
- 11:33Speaker 1: we saw that passing. Those pass interference calls on long
- 11:36Speaker 1: pass plays by the Commanders time and time again, Jakorean Bennett,
- 11:41Speaker 1: who again had a horrendous game. I believe three penalties.
- 11:45Speaker 1: He just loves pass interference. Cannot turn his head around
- 11:48Speaker 1: to see where the ball is to save his life.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Had to key pass interference penalty in second quarter allowed
- 11:54Speaker 1: the Commanders to score from the one yard line. He
- 11:56Speaker 1: had another in the fourth quarter that led to the
- 11:58Speaker 1: same exact outcome and touchdown. But you know, it's interesting
- 12:02Speaker 1: if you look at that trade that was in August
- 12:05Speaker 1: of just this past year, August twenty, twenty five year
- 12:08Speaker 1: Eagles traded Thomas Booker, the fourth defensive tackle who ended
- 12:12Speaker 1: up having a pretty good year and a pretty stable
- 12:15Speaker 1: role with the Las Vegas Raiders this season. That's of
- 12:18Speaker 1: the Eagles gave up for Jacoreyan Bennett. And look, I
- 12:22Speaker 1: know how he was trying to get some depth behind
- 12:25Speaker 1: the starters. But boy, this trade, I don't think it's
- 12:28Speaker 1: necessarily going to be working out for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 12:30Speaker 1: I don't think Jakorian Bennett's probably going to be on
- 12:32Speaker 1: this roster next season. And god forbid anything happens to
- 12:36Speaker 1: a Dori Jackson or Quinnon Mitchell. My my goodness. I mean,
- 12:40Speaker 1: the these secondary and cornerbacks are horrendous on this team.
- 12:45Speaker 1: I'm already I'm already like looking forward to this part
- 12:47Speaker 1: of the offseason.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Josh, I think you know, Jeff, a couple of thoughts here.
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think that one this isn't this wasn't just a
- 12:57Speaker 2: Bennett problem. Today, none of the defensive backs that are
- 13:00Speaker 2: backups know how to turn their head and face the ball.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I don't want to hear any complaints from Eagles fans
- 13:06Speaker 2: about any of those past interference penalties. None of the
- 13:11Speaker 2: defensive backs turns their heads. Do not turn your head right,
- 13:14Speaker 2: it's past interference, like I don't and.
- 13:17Speaker 1: The guy they're all over them.
- 13:21Speaker 3: So that's the first thing. The second thing is, I
- 13:24Speaker 3: want to go back to weeks four and five.
- 13:27Speaker 2: I want to go back to where everybody was complaining
- 13:30Speaker 2: about the fact that Dori Jackson is getting playing time.
- 13:34Speaker 3: What is Vic Fangio doing. We have we have Bennett,
- 13:38Speaker 3: we have Ringo, we have all of these options.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Oh, Jackson's a bomb, Like Jackson was not playing well right, right,
- 13:47Speaker 2: but tonight showed you right. In the same amount of
- 13:50Speaker 2: time that O Dori Jackson had is the same amount
- 13:53Speaker 2: of time that Ringo has had That Bennett has had
- 13:56Speaker 2: and here we find ourselves. This is why, Like this
- 13:59Speaker 2: is what Vic Fangio was seeing during practice.
- 14:03Speaker 3: So sometimes fans, let's trust.
- 14:07Speaker 2: The people that are watching football every day of the
- 14:10Speaker 2: actual players, and not just on Sundays, right right, Like
- 14:14Speaker 2: I think there's a number of lessons.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Except learn from except for Petula.
- 14:19Speaker 3: Wow, that's a whole separate.
- 14:23Speaker 1: Yes, I know what you're saying.
- 14:26Speaker 2: And like I brought up a point last week because
- 14:28Speaker 2: sometimes we need to let draft picks kind of take
- 14:32Speaker 2: their time. Like remember how upset people were about jaylex Sun.
- 14:35Speaker 2: I'll bring it up again, and now all of a sudden,
- 14:37Speaker 2: he's everybody's favorite player on the defense, right like it
- 14:41Speaker 2: Sometimes things need time. Yes, sometimes players make immediate impacts
- 14:45Speaker 2: Cooper dejen Quenya Mitchell like, but it's that I would
- 14:51Speaker 2: view that more as the exception than the rule, right right.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Like even Caleb Williams, everybody was calling him a bum
- 14:56Speaker 2: last year. I know we didn't do much today, but
- 14:59Speaker 2: he he's the second highest passer in Bear's history. Now
- 15:02Speaker 2: because of coaching. I think that we forget how important
- 15:06Speaker 2: coaching is. Like there was a picture I saw today
- 15:09Speaker 2: of Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield on the Panthers, who
- 15:13Speaker 2: both are no longer there where. You know, think of
- 15:17Speaker 2: how situations could have changed for Carolina had they have
- 15:21Speaker 2: gone and kept those with a different coach.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Anyway, absolute a whole separate conversation.
- 15:26Speaker 2: They just I think it was really highlighted by how
- 15:31Speaker 2: bad the defensive backs backups are just across the board,
- 15:35Speaker 2: Like with the exception of Tang Bigsby, which I'm going
- 15:38Speaker 2: to remove from this, the Eagles do not have the
- 15:43Speaker 2: same level of depth that they had last year, and
- 15:46Speaker 2: if these were last year's roster, I think they probably
- 15:50Speaker 2: win today. Shout out to Dan Quinn and Cliff Kingsbury
- 15:57Speaker 2: for Washington for not just calling it deep bomb every play, yeah,
- 16:01Speaker 2: and just racking up the score. I don't know why
- 16:04Speaker 2: you want it right unless you were trying to not
- 16:08Speaker 2: win the game. But it was really something to watch
- 16:11Speaker 2: a thirty nine year old. There's not many quarterbacks in
- 16:14Speaker 2: the NFL that are older than I am to watch
- 16:17Speaker 2: a thirty nine year old run the ball untouched into
- 16:21Speaker 2: the end zone. But that was really I just kind
- 16:24Speaker 2: of sat there and I was like, I.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Have no idea what Ringo was watching. I don't know
- 16:28Speaker 1: what Ringo was doing on that play. He was just
- 16:30Speaker 1: I don't know what we thought was actually going to
- 16:33Speaker 1: try to tackle Johnson. I have no idea. I have
- 16:38Speaker 1: no idea.
- 16:38Speaker 3: Yes, you or I could have scored on that play, right, yes.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, you got Khelle Ringo covering you, you can
- 16:44Speaker 1: score all right? Oh jeez, well I will say this too,
- 16:50Speaker 1: you know there. Look, the backups were in but you
- 16:54Speaker 1: mentioned Tank Bigsby and I want to mention him again.
- 16:58Speaker 1: He really is a fantastic running back and we saw
- 17:01Speaker 1: that today. I mean for some teams he could actually
- 17:05Speaker 1: be a starting running back. There are teams in the
- 17:07Speaker 1: in this league that would absolutely want him as a
- 17:09Speaker 1: starting running back. But you saw an offensive line that
- 17:13Speaker 1: certainly struggled the backups. We taw you know, folks, whether
- 17:19Speaker 1: it's online on Twitter, whatever, social platforms, everybody seeing how
- 17:23Speaker 1: terrible the offensive line played. But man, Tank Bigsby being
- 17:26Speaker 1: able to do what he did on the ground. Seriously,
- 17:30Speaker 1: the fact that he was able to get seventy five
- 17:31Speaker 1: yards on sixteen carries. He averaged four point seven yards
- 17:35Speaker 1: per carry one touchdown. Oh and by the way, he
- 17:38Speaker 1: also had one catch for thirty one yards in the game.
- 17:42Speaker 1: As well. What's that what he had on that one
- 17:45Speaker 1: hundred and eight yards? I don't know.
- 17:46Speaker 3: I can't imagine.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yes, well over one hundred yards. There is something to
- 17:51Speaker 1: be said for poor offensive line play, but the productivity
- 17:56Speaker 1: that we saw from Tank Bigsby, his talent and what
- 18:00Speaker 1: he's able to do with his cuts, what he is
- 18:02Speaker 1: able to do in terms of just seeing the field
- 18:05Speaker 1: in front of him. He is a guy you keep
- 18:08Speaker 1: on the team obviously, is your second running back heading
- 18:11Speaker 1: into next season, and mister will Shipley, I think we
- 18:15Speaker 1: could probably say bye to him out the door. This
- 18:19Speaker 1: is your time, man, this is your time, Josh. That
- 18:21Speaker 1: was my setup for Will Shipley, one of your favorites.
- 18:26Speaker 2: So I will say this quickly about Tag Big Speed.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Do you remember when they required him, acquired him, how
- 18:33Speaker 2: upset people got? Yes, right, you're not playing, he's such
- 18:35Speaker 2: a waste. Yeah, friends, just patience, right, you just gotta
- 18:41Speaker 2: let things play out. You gave up like a MiG
- 18:43Speaker 2: or a late round pick for him. It's not going
- 18:45Speaker 2: to kill you. Like it's not. People were treating it
- 18:47Speaker 2: like they gave up their first round pick for a
- 18:50Speaker 2: guy that's not really playing anyway. Will Shipley, I need
- 18:55Speaker 2: Howie Roseman to become a magician and just wave a
- 18:57Speaker 2: wand and just I talked about this beforehand, the fact
- 19:03Speaker 2: that I had to watch Kim Law tackle in the
- 19:06Speaker 2: open field Shipley. For those of you who don't know,
- 19:08Speaker 2: kiin Law went to South Carolina. They mentioned it on
- 19:10Speaker 2: the broadcast night. Who was unable to do that at
- 19:14Speaker 2: South Carolina and led to Will Shipley just running all
- 19:18Speaker 2: over South Carolina was probably.
- 19:20Speaker 3: The most infuriating thing.
- 19:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna be far more calmless time because I don't
- 19:24Speaker 2: feel like this postgame warrants being really upset. But Will Shipley,
- 19:29Speaker 2: I swear to you, if you do a signing, I'm
- 19:31Speaker 2: going to show up. I may actually buy a Clemson
- 19:34Speaker 2: something and force you to sign.
- 19:37Speaker 3: I'm gonna bring one of my.
- 19:37Speaker 2: South South Carolina Yeah when everyone on my South Carolina things,
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'm going to force you to sign it, and I'm not.
- 19:42Speaker 3: Gonna leave until you sign it.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yes, I have so many things that I would love
- 19:47Speaker 2: to say to him, but I'll just leave it at
- 19:50Speaker 2: he can be the number three running back somewhere else.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Absolutely be nice. Absolutely all right, Well, why don't we
- 19:57Speaker 1: take a break here, then we get back we'll do
- 19:59Speaker 1: some grades. These grades are gonna be fun.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I don't even know how we grade, Jeff, but sure,
- 20:04Speaker 3: let's do it.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Let's do it, man, let's do it. But beforehand, make
- 20:08Speaker 1: sure you like and subscribe to the PSD podcast show.
- 20:10Speaker 1: If you're watching on YouTube, hit the bell also to
- 20:14Speaker 1: be notified we post new videos. Would absolutely love if
- 20:18Speaker 1: you would like and subscribe. Also shoot us off some
- 20:20Speaker 1: comments below about this Eagles game and what you thought
- 20:25Speaker 1: about the final final game of this regular season. All right,
- 20:29Speaker 1: let's take that break. We're gonna be back in just
- 20:31Speaker 1: a bit. All right, we are back again with our
- 20:35Speaker 1: good friend Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow dot com. If
- 20:38Speaker 1: you're into the Philadelphia Union, they got a lot of
- 20:40Speaker 1: great stuff going on over there at Philadelphia soccernow dot com.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Let's see the website. Does the Union do not? They
- 20:46Speaker 3: do not have a lot of great stuff going They do.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Not, and and certainly we're gonna be getting into some
- 20:51Speaker 1: of that on the podcast this coming week. Folks, little teaser.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Try not tear worked up. I know, it's it's fine.
- 20:58Speaker 1: It's incredible. I'm gonna start.
- 21:01Speaker 3: Sounding like Ross from friends. It's fine.
- 21:03Speaker 1: It's fine anyway, right quarterback possession Tanner McKee. He went
- 21:09Speaker 1: twenty one of forty for two hundred and forty one yards.
- 21:12Speaker 1: He averaged six yards per attempt, one touchdown, one interception.
- 21:16Speaker 1: He was sacked three times in this game. He ended
- 21:18Speaker 1: with a rating of sixty eight point nine. Yes, we
- 21:22Speaker 1: can put to rest that Tanner McKee is going to
- 21:25Speaker 1: be the quarterback of the future for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 21:28Speaker 1: I'm giving Tanner McKee a C minus this week. What
- 21:31Speaker 1: do you give him? Buddy?
- 21:35Speaker 2: You Tanner, if you just happened to come across this
- 21:38Speaker 2: and listen lesson Lesson number one.
- 21:41Speaker 3: Yes, when you are in the.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Red zone or right near to the red zone, throwing
- 21:46Speaker 2: into double coverage at the goal line is a really
- 21:49Speaker 2: bad idea.
- 21:50Speaker 3: So don't do that.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Right.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Other than that he missed some open guys, he was fine.
- 21:55Speaker 2: Kevin Pittulo, listen to me. And this goes with the
- 21:59Speaker 2: quarterback raid. Tanner McKee should not be throwing the ball
- 22:02Speaker 2: forty times. I don't care ye that it's the last
- 22:05Speaker 2: game of the season. He should not be throwing the
- 22:08Speaker 2: ball forty times. He's not auditioning for the quarterback job.
- 22:12Speaker 2: This isn't preseason thirty attempts is fine? Run the ball.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I give Tanner McKee. I'm going to give him a
- 22:19Speaker 2: C plus because I don't think he was put in
- 22:21Speaker 2: a good position today.
- 22:22Speaker 1: Okay, I agree with you too, I do. Yeah, not
- 22:25Speaker 1: a good position at all, And I don't think he
- 22:30Speaker 1: really he just played average. He was average average play
- 22:33Speaker 1: from the quarterback. But I look at this running back situation,
- 22:37Speaker 1: the running back Tank Bigsby. Will Shipley only had one
- 22:41Speaker 1: rush for two yards, but Tank biggs be averaging again
- 22:44Speaker 1: four point seven yards per rush on sixteen carries, seventy
- 22:48Speaker 1: five yards and a touchdown. I'm going to give Tank
- 22:51Speaker 1: Bigsby because Will Shipley shouldn't even matter in this Tank
- 22:54Speaker 1: Bigsby in the running back, the one running back. I'm
- 22:57Speaker 1: giving him an A minus this week? What do you
- 22:59Speaker 1: give him?
- 23:00Speaker 3: Oh? Ten gets an A plus? For me?
- 23:01Speaker 2: All right, I'm going to disagree with you. I don't
- 23:04Speaker 2: know how you cannot give him an A plus.
- 23:06Speaker 1: I'll give it territory. Yes, it's absolutely that a. You
- 23:10Speaker 1: know what, I'll give him an A plus. It's easy.
- 23:11Speaker 3: You're excellently will Shipley. You can get in.
- 23:16Speaker 1: I love it, and.
- 23:17Speaker 3: You'll probably drop that too, like past today anyway.
- 23:20Speaker 1: He did, he did being passive aggressive at all. Anyway,
- 23:23Speaker 1: he was targeted three times, caught two balls for eleven yards.
- 23:26Speaker 1: That was will Shipley for you there. All right, let's
- 23:29Speaker 1: move to the receivers, boy, receivers, you know, I I
- 23:34Speaker 1: you know, I don't know if you put Davonte Smith
- 23:36Speaker 1: in here. I mean, I guess you have to considering
- 23:39Speaker 1: he he was targeted four times, caught three balls for
- 23:41Speaker 1: fifty two yards. He averaged seventeen point three yards per reception.
- 23:44Speaker 1: He's over a thousand yards on the season. John Dotson
- 23:48Speaker 1: caught three balls for forty yards, Darius Cooper caught three
- 23:50Speaker 1: balls for thirty three yards. Bigsby with that one catch
- 23:54Speaker 1: for thirty one yards. As I mentioned earlier, Kylon Granson
- 23:58Speaker 1: he caught four balls for thirty yards, and Grant kal
- 24:01Speaker 1: Katara caught two balls for twenty one yards. Britain Covey
- 24:03Speaker 1: two for twenty as well. So you take a look
- 24:06Speaker 1: at the receivers. I mean, Tanner McKee was just you know,
- 24:10Speaker 1: getting the ball wherever he could. You know, I give
- 24:13Speaker 1: the receiving corps a B plus this week. What do
- 24:15Speaker 1: you give.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Him I'll give him the same, but I'll also say
- 24:19Speaker 2: what i'd like to see this offseason. I'd like to
- 24:22Speaker 2: see them move on from Dotson. I don't think he's
- 24:25Speaker 2: a great slot wide receiver. I think he's better on
- 24:26Speaker 2: the outside. I like Cooper. I think that he's he
- 24:30Speaker 2: would be a great slot wide receiver. He can block,
- 24:34Speaker 2: and you already have your number three offensive weapon and
- 24:36Speaker 2: resign Goddard. Yeah, he's your number three offensive weapon, and
- 24:40Speaker 2: so that's what I would like to see.
- 24:42Speaker 3: But I agree with your grade B plus.
- 24:44Speaker 1: All right, very good. Let's move to the offensive line.
- 24:46Speaker 1: They really were not all that great. They were pretty terrible.
- 24:48Speaker 1: If you saw in run blocking, pass protection, my gosh,
- 24:52Speaker 1: the pockets just continually continually collapsing on Tanner McKee and
- 24:56Speaker 1: Tanner subsequently not having a two too great of uh
- 25:01Speaker 1: success outside the pocket when the pocket would collapse. I'm
- 25:05Speaker 1: gonna give this offensive line. I'm gonna give him D minus.
- 25:08Speaker 1: What do you give him?
- 25:11Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 25:11Speaker 1: I backups too, you know what I mean. But still
- 25:14Speaker 1: it's it's the level of play that you saw on
- 25:16Speaker 1: the field, I think.
- 25:18Speaker 2: Jeff, I I would love to know what the pressure
- 25:22Speaker 2: rate was on Tanner McKee, today, I I would I
- 25:26Speaker 2: would say D D minus. Yeah, I'm trying to be generous.
- 25:30Speaker 2: This were the starters, it would be an F. So
- 25:32Speaker 2: I guess you are being nice.
- 25:33Speaker 1: Yeah, let's move over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 25:37Speaker 1: You have the uh look you like I mentioned before
- 25:42Speaker 1: the break. You did see Jordan Davis, Jlex Hunt, you know,
- 25:46Speaker 1: BG was in there as well, Nolan Smith, you know
- 25:49Speaker 1: some some of the some of the key guys were there.
- 25:53Speaker 1: And there were zero sacks though, I mean Josh Johnson
- 25:56Speaker 1: was not sacked one time. There were only four quarterback hits.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It was not that great of a day from the
- 26:01Speaker 1: defensive line. I'm gonna give him a C minus. What
- 26:03Speaker 1: do you give them?
- 26:05Speaker 2: I'm actually gonna give him a D minus. Okay, because
- 26:08Speaker 2: you know, Jaelex Hunt got the interception. I also think
- 26:15Speaker 2: that they were just kind of told to put it
- 26:17Speaker 2: in cruise control today. I think they were told to
- 26:20Speaker 2: play and don't get injured. Yeah, and just I don't
- 26:23Speaker 2: know how much I can really take away from there
- 26:25Speaker 2: not really being much pressure.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Okay, all right, especially.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Given the last couple of weeks, Right like the last
- 26:30Speaker 2: couple of weeks, they've really.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Ramped it up. I don't know. I just yeah, I'll
- 26:35Speaker 3: give the B minus.
- 26:36Speaker 1: Okay. Look, and then I look at the linebacker situation
- 26:39Speaker 1: where you did have Jihah Campbell out there and Jeremiah
- 26:42Speaker 1: Trotter Junior. In fact, Jeremiah Trotter Junior had twelve total
- 26:46Speaker 1: tackles in this game. He led the team in tackles.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Jihat Campbell had ten led the team. And look Jeremiah Trotter.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Of those four quarterback hits, he had two of them.
- 26:55Speaker 1: He had one tackle for a loss as well. Linebackers
- 26:59Speaker 1: actually did pretty darn well. I think in this game,
- 27:02Speaker 1: I'm actually going to give them a B plus. What
- 27:04Speaker 1: do you give them?
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll give him a B plus.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I one one little nitpicky thing. If you make a
- 27:14Speaker 2: play on first and second down, don't celebrate like it's
- 27:17Speaker 2: the end of the game and then allow a guy
- 27:19Speaker 2: wide open in the back of the end zone that
- 27:21Speaker 2: was blown coverage by the linebackers. Trot's you know, celebrating there,
- 27:26Speaker 2: jumping around like guys, there's there's another down, and it
- 27:30Speaker 2: just it was a really bad book. Yeah, and I
- 27:33Speaker 2: think I think Trotter for me, I guess this was
- 27:37Speaker 2: another I said there's kind of two people. There was
- 27:41Speaker 2: an indictment on McKee and Petulo. I would actually add
- 27:44Speaker 2: a third with with Trot Junior, simply because I think
- 27:48Speaker 2: he was in a place where they were wondering about
- 27:50Speaker 2: keeping him on the roster next year. I think today
- 27:55Speaker 2: solidified his spot next year, that he can be at
- 27:59Speaker 2: at the bare minim a backup linebacker in the NFL.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Absolutely, Absolutely, I think that's a great point to make.
- 28:05Speaker 1: And if we look at the cornerback and secondary position,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I mean, straight up, F there's nothing more that you
- 28:11Speaker 1: can nothing more and nothing less that you can give
- 28:14Speaker 1: the secondary F for sure in this game.
- 28:18Speaker 2: It Yeah, I just make an attempt to look at
- 28:22Speaker 2: the ball, just f for failure to attempt to look
- 28:26Speaker 2: at the ball.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Yep, there you go. Yes, all right, Moving over to
- 28:30Speaker 1: special teams and coaching special teams, I mean they kind
- 28:33Speaker 1: of did what they were supposed to do today. Jake
- 28:35Speaker 1: Elliott made a thirty nine yard field goal, made both
- 28:38Speaker 1: of his extra points. He seems to be back on track,
- 28:41Speaker 1: which is good. Britton Covey returning punts still not looking
- 28:46Speaker 1: bad at all. I'll take his two punts or two
- 28:49Speaker 1: punt returns that he had average ten yards per punt.
- 28:52Speaker 1: I'll take that any day of the week. So I mean,
- 28:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the special teams they did what they
- 28:57Speaker 1: should do today. I'll give them a B plus.
- 28:58Speaker 3: What do you give them?
- 28:59Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna give him a bee. And the
- 29:02Speaker 2: only reason why go a little bit lower is the
- 29:05Speaker 2: one punt where Covey let it go over his head.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, it was down.
- 29:10Speaker 2: I had to double check for the number because I
- 29:12Speaker 2: was like, you know who makes that move?
- 29:14Speaker 1: Yeah, you know who makes that move?
- 29:16Speaker 3: Is that Will Shipley out there? I was like, Wow,
- 29:18Speaker 3: that was.
- 29:19Speaker 2: But I think that goes to show the stark difference
- 29:23Speaker 2: between the beginning of the season when Will Shipley is,
- 29:27Speaker 2: you know, doing the returns and whomever else they had
- 29:30Speaker 2: back there, because they were trying all these different people
- 29:33Speaker 2: to now where it's Covey's job. It was so uncharacteristic.
- 29:37Speaker 2: I think we forgot that that was the beginning of
- 29:39Speaker 2: the season, like that one punt was the beginning of
- 29:42Speaker 2: the season for the Eagles special teams.
- 29:44Speaker 3: But yeah, I'd give him a bee.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Okay, all right, let's move the defensive coaching. Vic Fangio.
- 29:51Speaker 1: You know you made the point earlier, Josh, And let's
- 29:53Speaker 1: bring it back. You know, you gotta trust what the
- 29:56Speaker 1: coaches have seen throughout the year with regard to talent
- 29:59Speaker 1: of value, euation, And we obviously know why certain guys
- 30:04Speaker 1: just haven't gotten much playing time other than Week eighteen
- 30:07Speaker 1: here in the regular season. I mean, Vic Fango is
- 30:10Speaker 1: Vic Fangio. He's always going to get a high grade
- 30:13Speaker 1: for me. I mean I'll give I mean, I think
- 30:15Speaker 1: vic In himself as the coach defensive coaching, did everything
- 30:19Speaker 1: he needed to do to win this game. It wasn't
- 30:22Speaker 1: his fault that the talent just isn't what it is
- 30:25Speaker 1: and what it needed to be. So I'm gonna give
- 30:28Speaker 1: him a B plus this week. What do you give him?
- 30:31Speaker 3: I think that's my grade too, Jeffy.
- 30:33Speaker 2: The only complaint I really have is they played a
- 30:37Speaker 2: lot of prevent defense throughout the game. It was very
- 30:41Speaker 2: clear there wasn't really any pressure. They were playing way
- 30:46Speaker 2: off the receivers. Yeah, and I think we know the
- 30:50Speaker 2: reason why, because if they bombed it down the field,
- 30:53Speaker 2: it's gonna be past interference, right right, So I get it,
- 30:56Speaker 2: But like on a third and mid range third and
- 31:00Speaker 2: I really hate it, and One of the things I
- 31:02Speaker 2: love about VIC is that they don't play fifteen yards
- 31:05Speaker 2: off the ball. Yeah, today they kind of did, But yeah,
- 31:09Speaker 2: I give him a B plus.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It was very Jim schwartzish it was at times. At
- 31:13Speaker 1: times it was like a Jim Schwartzish type of defense.
- 31:17Speaker 2: I would agree, except the main difference was Schwartz was
- 31:20Speaker 2: doing it with starters, and I think Vic Fangio was
- 31:23Speaker 2: literally just trying to get sixty minutes of game in, right, right,
- 31:27Speaker 2: that's it.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Well, let's move over to the offensive
- 31:31Speaker 1: coaching and grade them. Kevin Patulo, Nick Sirianni, I'm gonn.
- 31:36Speaker 1: I'm gonna give these gentlemen a D plus. I just thought,
- 31:38Speaker 1: I think from an overall picture standpoint you mentioned earlier,
- 31:41Speaker 1: they really didn't put Tanner McKee in the best position
- 31:43Speaker 1: in this game. You're on the goal line, you're third
- 31:46Speaker 1: and one, and then fourth and one. Both of them
- 31:48Speaker 1: are pass plays instead of run plays when Tank Bigsby
- 31:51Speaker 1: is averaging five yards a carry at that point, just
- 31:54Speaker 1: bizarre stuff going on, bizarre play design still week eighteen,
- 31:59Speaker 1: for God's sake, I'd be I'm going to give them
- 32:01Speaker 1: a D plus, give them a D plus. What do
- 32:03Speaker 1: you give them?
- 32:05Speaker 2: I'm going to give him a D for me. Every
- 32:07Speaker 2: game every coach starts with the C. Right, I feel
- 32:10Speaker 2: like that's average. If you're backup quarterback with backups throws
- 32:15Speaker 2: forty passes, you get dropped a letter.
- 32:17Speaker 3: I don't.
- 32:18Speaker 2: I'm being generous because I feel obligated to. Since Ashley
- 32:23Speaker 2: took time to email in and ask us specifically something. Yes,
- 32:28Speaker 2: I'm sorry I can't get your name right. I'm sorry, April,
- 32:31Speaker 2: my sincere apologies.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I just I can't comprehend.
- 32:39Speaker 2: There were some things I liked, like screen passes can
- 32:43Speaker 2: actually work when they're thrown to speedy wide receivers, not
- 32:47Speaker 2: possession receivers. Right.
- 32:48Speaker 3: That was refreshing to see, But I feel like that's
- 32:52Speaker 3: a bare minimum. Like C grade. Dvante going downfield instead
- 32:58Speaker 3: of aj Brown.
- 32:59Speaker 2: I like that right now. Ag, I know what'sn't playing,
- 33:02Speaker 2: but he went downfield anyway. There were parks I liked
- 33:07Speaker 2: the forty passing.
- 33:08Speaker 3: Attempts for my lord, you get a anyway.
- 33:13Speaker 1: Well, folks, that's that's about it here again. Week eighteen.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Now in the books for this twenty twenty five, twenty
- 33:20Speaker 1: twenty six Philadelphia Eagles season. They lose to the Washington
- 33:23Speaker 1: Commanders twenty four to seventeen. The playoffs start next week.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Oh boy, oh boy, facing the forty nine ers, facing
- 33:33Speaker 1: the forty nine ers, man.
- 33:36Speaker 2: And they did not look good by the way they
- 33:38Speaker 2: We're going to take a little bit of time to
- 33:40Speaker 2: do previews here. They're one stretch where they went won
- 33:46Speaker 2: six games in a row. They played one team that
- 33:49Speaker 2: had more than five wins this season. Yeah, yeah, so,
- 33:52Speaker 2: I like, I don't know, I don't know how good
- 33:57Speaker 2: they are. I'm personally not a huge Rock Party guy.
- 34:02Speaker 2: I like Kyle Shanahan, and I think Kyle Shanahan helps
- 34:06Speaker 2: Purty out in a big way because they get the
- 34:08Speaker 2: ball out quick, which I do think is a problem
- 34:11Speaker 2: for this Eagles defense.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, but here if the pressure, though, is coming,
- 34:16Speaker 1: and so much of the what's gonna hinge on the
- 34:19Speaker 1: Eagles winning this game, this first playoff game, is going
- 34:23Speaker 1: to be that pressure on Party because if he's not
- 34:25Speaker 1: able to get through his progressions and he does feel
- 34:28Speaker 1: any bit of a sense of pressure, he's gonna fold.
- 34:32Speaker 1: We see it time and time again. So much Saturday, Yeah, absolutely,
- 34:36Speaker 1: so much pressure is going to be put on this
- 34:38Speaker 1: Eagles defensive front and Vic Fangio to get this done.
- 34:42Speaker 1: We have seen this Eagles defense play extremely well down
