- 3:18Speaker 1: k I fund Women crowdfund campaign cracked twelve thousand dollars
- 3:24Speaker 1: in contributions. We are overwhelmed, We are so excited. Thank
- 3:28Speaker 1: you to everybody who has become a funder and who
- 3:31Speaker 1: is helping us make our way to our hundred thousand
- 3:34Speaker 1: dollar goal. We are that much closer to launching Look
- 3:36Speaker 1: at our Productions, and we want to give you an
- 3:39Speaker 1: insight into what your funding dollars are really helping us
- 3:43Speaker 1: to do. So. Actually, today we shared artwork for a
- 3:48Speaker 1: brand new podcast, a brand new show that is gonna
- 3:52Speaker 1: join look at That our radio in the look at
- 3:55Speaker 1: Audio verse. We're not going to be as an individual
- 3:59Speaker 1: show anymore. We're gonna have have a podcast slate with
- 4:01Speaker 1: more than one show. Um. This is a cannabis podcast
- 4:05Speaker 1: called Marijuana, a podcast for potheads I will be hosting
- 4:10Speaker 1: and this is our first sort of new venture as
- 4:13Speaker 1: look at productions. So your crowdfund dollars have directly helped
- 4:20Speaker 1: us to pay to get the artwork created, to film,
- 4:23Speaker 1: to record, and to make this new show a reality.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So keep an eye out for that Marijuana. Our our
- 4:31Speaker 1: new show. Yes, our new babies, so excited for it
- 4:35Speaker 1: to launch. Um and if you want to contribute to
- 4:39Speaker 1: our crowdfunding campaign, there are some really cool incentives that
- 4:43Speaker 1: are still available, such as Scalia contributed three signed books
- 4:50Speaker 1: of Sabrina and Corina, which she was nominated for a
- 4:54Speaker 1: National Book Award because of this collection of short fiction,
- 4:58Speaker 1: it's amazing. We also have an amazing skate deck that
- 5:02Speaker 1: Joanna from the Unapologically Street series contributed as well. There's
- 5:06Speaker 1: also still a portrait available by Julio. There's still some
- 5:10Speaker 1: amazing things available, so check that out. You can head
- 5:14Speaker 1: over to our I Fund Women campaign that will be
- 5:17Speaker 1: in the show notes on our website, on our Instagram,
- 5:20Speaker 1: you know where to find it. And thank you to
- 5:22Speaker 1: all of our funders that have contributed thus far. Yep, yep, yep, yep.
- 5:27Speaker 1: It's an exciting time to be us clearly. UM, so
- 5:32Speaker 1: thank you to everybody who's been so supportive. We want
- 5:35Speaker 1: to shift focus a little bit now and do a
- 5:39Speaker 1: little bit of like of a global check in a
- 5:42Speaker 1: solidarity check really because once again, per usual, there's a
- 5:46Speaker 1: lot going on in the world, and just as many
- 5:49Speaker 1: good things are happening, there are also some really terrible,
- 5:52Speaker 1: awful things. So we wanted to just uh talk about
- 5:57Speaker 1: standing in solidarity with the people of India, of Colombia,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and of course of Palestine. And they also is going
- 6:04Speaker 1: to talk a little bit about the i G Live
- 6:06Speaker 1: and story takeover UM in solidarity with Palestine. Yeah, our
- 6:12Speaker 1: friends over at the Feminist Front actually did an i G.
- 6:16Speaker 1: They hosted an i G Live and an i take
- 6:18Speaker 1: over this past week at look at our radio. So
- 6:21Speaker 1: if you didn't catch that, you can still head over
- 6:24Speaker 1: to our page and watch the live UM and also
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's on the Story Story Highlight as well. And so
- 6:31Speaker 1: Yasmine Obeyed is a Muslim Palestinian organizer and she serves
- 6:36Speaker 1: as a Community Partnerships Chair of the Feminist Front and
- 6:41Speaker 1: she did a takeover and an i G Live about
- 6:44Speaker 1: Feminist for Palestine and why the current moment in Palestine
- 6:51Speaker 1: is intersectional for all of our liberation as community, as
- 6:55Speaker 1: people of color, and so check that out if you
- 6:57Speaker 1: haven't already. I and today, we are really excited about
- 7:04Speaker 1: today's episode for a lot of different reasons. We're gonna
- 7:08Speaker 1: be focusing on urban legends the paranormal, and the reason
- 7:13Speaker 1: why we're talking about urban legends and the paranormal besides
- 7:16Speaker 1: the fact that it's in alignment and we love this ship.
- 7:20Speaker 1: We have actually been invited to get a pre screening
- 7:27Speaker 1: of The Conjuring, the new film The Conjuring The Devil
- 7:33Speaker 1: made Me do it. Yes, it's true, we have already
- 7:36Speaker 1: seen it. This is like really fun for us because
- 7:39Speaker 1: not only did we get a sneak peek into this
- 7:42Speaker 1: amazing movie from this killer franchise, but we also got
- 7:47Speaker 1: to interview an expert in the paranormal and we get
- 7:52Speaker 1: to talk a little bit today about some of the
- 7:54Speaker 1: urban legends that we grew up with that we know about.
- 7:58Speaker 1: So it's gonna be a really fun episode. Thing you
- 8:00Speaker 1: for tuning in Yosa, Like, how do you define an
- 8:03Speaker 1: urban legend? Um? I define an urban legend as kind
- 8:08Speaker 1: of like community knowledge in a way, or like family
- 8:13Speaker 1: knowledge town knowledge um, where everyone has the same understanding
- 8:20Speaker 1: of about a particular phenomenon being saying place, and there's
- 8:28Speaker 1: not necessarily any proof that said thing is real, but
- 8:32Speaker 1: we all know that it's real. Yeah, definitely. And I
- 8:38Speaker 1: love how like, depending where you are, there can be
- 8:41Speaker 1: urban legends that everybody knows about and others that are
- 8:45Speaker 1: just very particular to like your area or your neighborhood
- 8:49Speaker 1: or your school or whatever. So of course I feel
- 8:52Speaker 1: like the big ones we all know about Larna, I
- 8:56Speaker 1: think that's a type of urban legend in some ways, right.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I also think that we've probably each heard of, you know,
- 9:03Speaker 1: bloody Mary and saying bloody Mary in the mirror three
- 9:06Speaker 1: times fast or whatever the case is, um the candy man.
- 9:10Speaker 1: You know, there's these these these ones that are everybody
- 9:14Speaker 1: knows about these in theory probably a lot of people,
- 9:17Speaker 1: But then there's others That's like I remember growing up,
- 9:21Speaker 1: I had a friend who lived in this neighborhood where
- 9:24Speaker 1: there was a wash behind her house, like behind the yard.
- 9:28Speaker 1: And so our urban legend because of my friend in
- 9:31Speaker 1: her specific house was that the home but not that
- 9:36Speaker 1: it was haunted, but that there was a little girl
- 9:40Speaker 1: who in theory used to live there. But there was
- 9:43Speaker 1: like the spirit the ghost of a little girl that
- 9:46Speaker 1: would appear in the wash, and then that would appear
- 9:49Speaker 1: in like the attic of the house. And one of
- 9:52Speaker 1: the little sisters was like known for having seen this
- 9:58Speaker 1: little girl's image her ghost in the wash. Like it
- 10:03Speaker 1: was like it was a thing. We all knew it,
- 10:06Speaker 1: We all talked about it. It was just like an
- 10:08Speaker 1: acknowledged thing, not like she claims or she's pretending or
- 10:12Speaker 1: she thinks it was like no, no, she she sees
- 10:15Speaker 1: the little girl like she sees her, like the little
- 10:18Speaker 1: girl appears to her. I think that that's like really
- 10:21Speaker 1: common in our community where we're like, oh yeah, it's
- 10:25Speaker 1: the ghost that lives there, right. Like I had a
- 10:27Speaker 1: friend O, my our friend Melissa, my friend Melissa that
- 10:30Speaker 1: lives in Chicago. She would talk about like, oh yeah,
- 10:33Speaker 1: there's like little kids that live at my parents house
- 10:35Speaker 1: a little kid ghosts, right, And our friend like had
- 10:37Speaker 1: stayed the night there and had no idea and was
- 10:40Speaker 1: definitely freaked out. Right. Um, there's like definitely like growing up,
- 10:44Speaker 1: um because I have family and the US, so we
- 10:46Speaker 1: like heard about Um, there was like a group of
- 10:50Speaker 1: children that were killed like on a school bus. They
- 10:52Speaker 1: got like stuck near like a railroad. So they said
- 10:55Speaker 1: that if you drove to like where this particular train
- 10:57Speaker 1: tracks were, um, and you like off your car, that
- 11:01Speaker 1: like your car would get pushed. And it was like
- 11:03Speaker 1: said that it was like the teenagers or the children
- 11:05Speaker 1: like helping you like move so that you wouldn't get killed. Right.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And these are things like that were told to me
- 11:11Speaker 1: when I was little, um and not necessarily an l
- 11:14Speaker 1: a thing, but I like was very aware that this
- 11:16Speaker 1: was like a Texas thing because I had a family there,
- 11:19Speaker 1: and so it's definitely common to hear these stories and
- 11:22Speaker 1: to also like maybe be among the little ghost children
- 11:25Speaker 1: that live in your home or live in your boila's
- 11:27Speaker 1: home or your friend's home. And it's like super normal
- 11:31Speaker 1: because a lot of the times we we like encounter
- 11:34Speaker 1: like nice ghosts, right or like good spirits. But today
- 11:38Speaker 1: we're gonna be talking about quite the opposite of that. Actually,
- 11:42Speaker 1: oh yeah, so we're not going to give you any
- 11:45Speaker 1: spoilers about the conjuring. The devil made me do it,
- 11:49Speaker 1: but just now it's really really good, super well done.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I loved it. Um really crazy twists like it's a
- 11:58Speaker 1: good film, but it does tackle of course, for the title,
- 12:03Speaker 1: the Devil Made Me Do It demon possession and the
- 12:06Speaker 1: devil doing bad things and making people do bad things,
- 12:11Speaker 1: visa demonic possession. So that's what we're talking about UM today,
- 12:16Speaker 1: and it's creepy. It's so creepy, and like, thank you
- 12:21Speaker 1: Warner Brothers for inviting us to be a part of
- 12:24Speaker 1: this conversation and for giving us a sneak preview or
- 12:30Speaker 1: an early screening of The Conjuring The Double Made Me
- 12:32Speaker 1: Do It. It's kind of like the best way I
- 12:35Speaker 1: can describe it is like a true crime meets Liablo,
- 12:40Speaker 1: Like that's like the only way I can describe it.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Because Um, the Conjuring, this is the seventh film in
- 12:47Speaker 1: the Conjuring universe. But The Conjuring The Double Made Me
- 12:50Speaker 1: Do It actually tells the story of one of the
- 12:52Speaker 1: most sensational cases from paranormal investigator Ed and Lorraine Warren,
- 12:57Speaker 1: who are real people like uh, Lorane Warren died in
- 13:00Speaker 1: twenty nineteen and in the two thousands. These are like
- 13:03Speaker 1: real people, contemporary people, and um, this film is actually
- 13:08Speaker 1: based off of a trial that took place in in Connecticut.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Tell Us more about this Mala. So I loved learning
- 13:18Speaker 1: about this because I had no idea. I had seen
- 13:21Speaker 1: the conjuring films that you know, like the first one,
- 13:24Speaker 1: and it wasn't until this screening again, thank you Warner Brothers,
- 13:30Speaker 1: that I learned about this case. So the film is
- 13:33Speaker 1: based on the trial of Arnie Cheyenne Johnson. He was
- 13:38Speaker 1: accused of murder and in his murder trial that took
- 13:42Speaker 1: place in nine eighty one in Connecticut, Edin Lrane Warren
- 13:48Speaker 1: like are involved, you know, um, And it tells us
- 13:54Speaker 1: a little bit about the murder trial. It tells us
- 13:56Speaker 1: a little bit about Edin Larne Warren and about the
- 14:01Speaker 1: fight for the soul of a young boy which then
- 14:05Speaker 1: takes them on this wild not an adventure necessarily, but
- 14:11Speaker 1: you know, you can imagine right like they're fighting for
- 14:15Speaker 1: the soul of a young boy. Demons are involved. It's
- 14:19Speaker 1: anything beyond anything they've seen before. And um, it's really
- 14:24Speaker 1: all about the first time in US history that a
- 14:28Speaker 1: murder suspect would claim demonic posent as a defense. So
- 14:33Speaker 1: it involves the law involves murder, it involves trying to
- 14:39Speaker 1: use demonitor session as a legal defense strategy. And I
- 14:47Speaker 1: thought it was fascinating Arnie from Defense Strategy. Yeah, truly
- 14:52Speaker 1: truly fascinating things, fascinating stuff in this film. Um, I
- 15:00Speaker 1: would like to say that it's probably my favorite film
- 15:04Speaker 1: of the Conjuring universe. Um, there's the Conjuring, the Conjuring
- 15:09Speaker 1: to Annabelle the Nune like some heavy hitters, but I
- 15:13Speaker 1: thought this one was really really, really really good, right,
- 15:18Speaker 1: top notch so good, And you know, it made me
- 15:21Speaker 1: think about this saying and no, I'm no Ivenga. But
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think in this movie it really thinks makes us
- 15:29Speaker 1: think about the opposite. No I win Novenga. Right. So
- 15:34Speaker 1: for any good person, something bad will find you, right,
- 15:38Speaker 1: And that's really what the film shows us. And it
- 15:41Speaker 1: doesn't matter how good of a person you are, the
- 15:45Speaker 1: demon will find you. Basically, the devil will find you
- 15:50Speaker 1: no matter what. That actually reminds me of another little
- 15:54Speaker 1: urban legend. Um, this is actually the exact same family.
- 15:57Speaker 1: So the mother I love this say like, oh my god,
- 16:03Speaker 1: be Cathy, this is Cathy. So hey, Cathy, So Cathy's mom.
- 16:10Speaker 1: So Kathy's sister saw the little ghost girl in the wash.
- 16:14Speaker 1: And then Cathy's mother, I would say, and then this
- 16:18Speaker 1: is something that we would hear like, because her mother
- 16:20Speaker 1: would say it to her, was that if you do
- 16:23Speaker 1: not make your bed, then the devil will sleep in
- 16:26Speaker 1: it during the day. Yeah, my mom would say that
- 16:29Speaker 1: to me all the time. So you know, Sma, it's
- 16:36Speaker 1: so scary. It's so scary to make your dad bed everybody.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I wonder if there are people at home who like
- 16:46Speaker 1: hear these things like, Oh my god, why would their
- 16:48Speaker 1: mother speak to them that way? I said, I said
- 16:51Speaker 1: to my partner, because culture, this is culture. I said
- 16:56Speaker 1: to my partner and he was like, I've never heard
- 16:59Speaker 1: that before. And I was, oh, well make your bed
- 17:07Speaker 1: for that anyway. Well, you know that being said, we
- 17:13Speaker 1: are super excited to bring on a paranormal expert. We
- 17:18Speaker 1: are inviting. We have the honor of speaking with Alberto Larco,
- 17:22Speaker 1: who is a social media star and podcaster who has
- 17:25Speaker 1: risen to fame for his Alberto YouTube channel. He has
- 17:29Speaker 1: gained more than a hundred and fifty four million total
- 17:32Speaker 1: views as a paranormal hunter for exploring haunted locations, attending exorcisms,
- 17:38Speaker 1: and his horror story retellings. This is a really, really
- 17:42Speaker 1: fun interview. We do it in Spanish, yes, we do
- 17:46Speaker 1: it all lingual queens. So we got this paranormal activity
- 17:52Speaker 1: in Spanish. For that ask, please enjoy. Thank you for
