- 0:16Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one twenty eight of
- 0:20Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am Mike Coolard, joined by my
- 0:23Speaker 1: very good friend Jeremy Brewer, and we are speaking on
- 0:27Speaker 1: February eighteenth. We've got a great preview coming up on
- 0:30Speaker 1: the AL Central. We're also like, I'm a little giddy
- 0:33Speaker 1: because it was warm today. I don't know about you.
- 0:36Speaker 2: No, it's fantastic. It feels like baseball weather like this.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I love playing baseball in the cool because, like it
- 0:43Speaker 2: just feels like there's something more to it. It's the natural game.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Like I would much rather play in the sixties, the fifties,
- 0:50Speaker 2: something like that rather than the nineties. The middle of
- 0:53Speaker 2: the summer, got the turf around you. Maybe not from
- 0:56Speaker 2: a hitter perspective. The hitters don't tend to like that.
- 0:58Speaker 2: There's a little sting on the end of the bat
- 1:00Speaker 2: when you swing in this weather. But it's okay. It
- 1:02Speaker 2: is real, real fun weather, and you can just springs
- 1:05Speaker 2: right around the corner where almost there.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, we're getting pretty close to spring training games. I mean,
- 1:10Speaker 1: baseball for college kicked off this past weekend and I
- 1:13Speaker 1: just I watched a ton of college baseball. It's been
- 1:16Speaker 1: really fun to watch and get into that. I think
- 1:19Speaker 1: there's a lot of great teams and a lot of
- 1:21Speaker 1: great players that are in college right now. So it's
- 1:24Speaker 1: been fantastic being able to get some ball on our
- 1:27Speaker 1: TV screens. And yeah, with that, we're going to get
- 1:30Speaker 1: into some news and notes before we do our Ale
- 1:32Speaker 1: Central preview because even though teams are reporting, we've still
- 1:37Speaker 1: got some signings trickling in. As you know, we've still
- 1:40Speaker 1: got players rounding out rosters out there. Let's just start
- 1:44Speaker 1: with the biggest one off the bat, where this pretty
- 1:47Speaker 1: much cleans up the major free agents, especially the ones
- 1:51Speaker 1: with the qualifying offers out there. Zach Gallon is returning
- 1:54Speaker 1: to the Arizona Dbacks on a deal that ouch's Ozach
- 2:00Speaker 1: Gallon because he signed for what would have been the
- 2:03Speaker 1: qualifying offer amount that he turned down, only now he's
- 2:06Speaker 1: deferring a portion of that, so it's actually less than
- 2:08Speaker 1: the qualifying an offer amount. The market just was not
- 2:12Speaker 1: there the way Gallon I think expected it to be,
- 2:15Speaker 1: and especially because he had that draft pick compensation attached
- 2:19Speaker 1: to him, it probably really hurt him coming off of
- 2:21Speaker 1: a season that was really rough one hundred and ninety
- 2:24Speaker 1: two innings, of a four to eighty three er and
- 2:27Speaker 1: a one twenty six whip. The strikeout rate was a
- 2:31Speaker 1: career low eight point two percent, and the luck was
- 2:35Speaker 1: just all against him as well in terms of a
- 2:37Speaker 1: career low left on base percentage. The stuff has really
- 2:40Speaker 1: started to back up on the thirty year old Zach Gallon,
- 2:43Speaker 1: and so you can see why it was not exactly
- 2:47Speaker 1: a hot market for him coming off of a platform
- 2:49Speaker 1: year like that. Honestly, probably just like absolutely annihilated some teams,
- 2:54Speaker 1: especially if you're in like a draft and whole situation
- 2:56Speaker 1: had to absorb one hundred and ninety two innings of
- 2:59Speaker 1: a for eighty three year from Zach Gallen. That really
- 3:02Speaker 1: sunk year ship last year in twenty twenty five. What
- 3:05Speaker 1: do you think twenty twenty six can be for Gallen,
- 3:08Speaker 1: Because like we're only a couple of years removed from
- 3:10Speaker 1: this dude being an absolute all out ace with like
- 3:13Speaker 1: a sub three era and a three FIP where he
- 3:16Speaker 1: was like Corbyn Burns in Arizona before Corbyn Burns joined
- 3:21Speaker 1: him practically. But I am scared to death of this
- 3:25Speaker 1: Gallon profile. I used to be into him, but last
- 3:28Speaker 1: year is just real, real rough. So do you think
- 3:30Speaker 1: that Gallan can bounce back in twenty six or in
- 3:33Speaker 1: the future.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, maybe. I mean there's a little bounce
- 3:36Speaker 2: back to like a mid to upper threes era. He
- 3:40Speaker 2: had some tough luck last year and a few things
- 3:42Speaker 2: that kind of kind of held him back, and so yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 2: maybe there's a little rebound. But I mean, honestly, like
- 3:50Speaker 2: if you look the last four years, like every year
- 3:53Speaker 2: just this feels like the Luis Castillo effect, Like every
- 3:56Speaker 2: year he just backs up just a little bit to
- 3:59Speaker 2: the point where you don't even almost even feel it,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and then you look up and you're like, man, this
- 4:03Speaker 2: guy's just a mid, mid to back rerotation. And I
- 4:06Speaker 2: think that's what happened with MLB teams. They looked at
- 4:09Speaker 2: him and go like, I don't see. I can't invest
- 4:11Speaker 2: in you. I can't give him the draft pick because
- 4:14Speaker 2: I don't have faith you're anything more than an Indians
- 4:17Speaker 2: eater at this point, which is valuable in Major League Baseball,
- 4:21Speaker 2: but from a fantasy perspective, it's just not gonna do
- 4:24Speaker 2: what you need to do. So I'm I'm I'm out
- 4:26Speaker 2: on him. I just I used to like him as well,
- 4:29Speaker 2: and now it's it's like Zach Gallon aged fast.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think that is part of it.
- 4:35Speaker 1: It also like it wasn't ever like it was a
- 4:38Speaker 1: pitch mix profile when he's especially coming up with Saint
- 4:41Speaker 1: Louis and Miami and like he had a good run
- 4:45Speaker 1: I think when he was able to max out the
- 4:46Speaker 1: abilities of it. But it does feel like the velocity
- 4:50Speaker 1: has never quite been there and the stuff plus has
- 4:52Speaker 1: never quite been there for for Gallon the way it
- 4:55Speaker 1: has been for other guys. And you can kind of
- 4:57Speaker 1: see that as he's on the back end if he
- 5:00Speaker 1: his career now. So I think it's all fair. I mean,
- 5:02Speaker 1: I think he could bounce back, but I think it's
- 5:04Speaker 1: a very upper percentile outcome for that to happen that
- 5:08Speaker 1: you're really wish casting for it to happen. Okay, We've
- 5:12Speaker 1: got one trade, which this is maybe the oddest trade
- 5:16Speaker 1: I've ever seen, as Toronto and Houston have linked up
- 5:19Speaker 1: to trade Joey Loperfido and Hayesu Sanchez. Sanchez was my
- 5:25Speaker 1: buye for the Astros when we preview the Al West.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I mean, you can go back to that episode and
- 5:30Speaker 1: I'm still in on him. He's in a better city.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I wish we could tell the other orders see if
- 5:34Speaker 2: you would have bottom twice, Yeah, it would have been great.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Like I double dip on Sage Sanchez because he should
- 5:40Speaker 1: walk into a strong side. Patune roll on a better
- 5:43Speaker 1: squad in Toronto. And I've got a little more faith
- 5:47Speaker 1: in the Toronto hitting development than Houston right now, because
- 5:50Speaker 1: Houston's kind of been messy the past couple of years
- 5:53Speaker 1: in terms of like they're running this team bringing lit
- 5:56Speaker 1: Perfido back, and it's like, I wonder who presented the
- 6:00Speaker 1: other side with the trade, because it feels like whoever
- 6:03Speaker 1: offered the trade probably is the loser because when the
- 6:08Speaker 1: other one was offered it, they're like, oh, yeah, that's
- 6:10Speaker 1: an upgrade to my corner outfield. So I have a
- 6:13Speaker 1: feeling maybe the blue Jays went that route because like
- 6:16Speaker 1: the blue Jays didn't really have any need for this,
- 6:18Speaker 1: but clearly I think probably preferred Sanchez over Loperfeedo. I
- 6:23Speaker 1: guess on the flip side of the Astros had no
- 6:25Speaker 1: reason probably to do it other than you think that
- 6:27Speaker 1: we've traded something else from Loperfeto if they really liked him.
- 6:30Speaker 1: But uh, yeah, what a weird trade, And what do
- 6:35Speaker 1: you think think of it.
- 6:36Speaker 2: I have no idea because what read to me was
- 6:40Speaker 2: like Houston because Lop you know, was a Houston product,
- 6:44Speaker 2: like they traded him away and so like it's like
- 6:47Speaker 2: they just like, nope, nope, we really like that guy.
- 6:50Speaker 2: We we made a mistake and we won him back.
- 6:52Speaker 2: And Sanchez like has always been kind of like the
- 6:55Speaker 2: maybe when's the next year gonna hit and Okay, we'll
- 6:59Speaker 2: just give him up and and try Loperfito. So like
- 7:01Speaker 2: it almost feels like an endorsement to Librafito for for Houston.
- 7:04Speaker 2: But like I just I don't this. I don't feel
- 7:06Speaker 2: good about this one in general. Like it's just like
- 7:08Speaker 2: what what are Who's doing what? And I don't quite know,
- 7:12Speaker 2: Like is like Sanchez should have been starting. Does that
- 7:14Speaker 2: mean low Berfido's got a full time gig? I maybe
- 7:19Speaker 2: in that look and if he does, if he does,
- 7:22Speaker 2: like I actually kind of like him, like I've I've
- 7:24Speaker 2: been on him it before, Like he's got a lot
- 7:26Speaker 2: of talent, but he also, like man, his plate discipline
- 7:30Speaker 2: got like fell off a cliff in the majors, and
- 7:32Speaker 2: so he feels he's like feel on the border of
- 7:34Speaker 2: a quad a player but again, if you traded Sanchez
- 7:37Speaker 2: for him, like they've got to see something here. So
- 7:40Speaker 2: I'm very mixed. I'm gonna watch this one close. Little Berfido,
- 7:43Speaker 2: specifically Sanchez. I don't think it really changes his value
- 7:46Speaker 2: for me, but Liwperfito like wasn't on my radar now,
- 7:49Speaker 2: like there's a little bit of like a what's it
- 7:50Speaker 2: going on here?
- 7:52Speaker 1: Yeah? I mean I think, yeah, Sanchez is probably pretty
- 7:56Speaker 1: even Li Brafito. I honestly, I think I'm still pretty
- 8:00Speaker 1: out on where I was with him, just because the
- 8:02Speaker 1: contact great is brutal, and he doesn't really seem to
- 8:06Speaker 1: have an eye at the major league level and didn't
- 8:10Speaker 1: show it in Triple A last year. So maybe Houston
- 8:12Speaker 1: gat him back to the success they they brought him
- 8:15Speaker 1: up with, but it just feels like he doesn't quite
- 8:19Speaker 1: have a major league quality bat to be able to stick.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But I guess we'll see. So intriguing maybe for loper
- 8:26Speaker 1: Feudo to have that full time gig because he didn't
- 8:28Speaker 1: have it in Toronto, that's for sure. Okay, let's now
- 8:31Speaker 1: we've got a bunch of moves in San Diego. But
- 8:34Speaker 1: let's start with the main one first. As the Nick
- 8:37Speaker 1: Castillanos and Philadelphia Phillies saga is over as the Phillies
- 8:42Speaker 1: clearly could not find anybody to trade for Castillanis in
- 8:45Speaker 1: the offseason, which isn't surprising. It was a brutal season
- 8:49Speaker 1: for him, a ninety WRC plus with a two fifty
- 8:52Speaker 1: two ninety four four hundred slash line with only seventeen
- 8:56Speaker 1: homers one hundred and forty seven games. On top of it,
- 8:59Speaker 1: social media was a light this past week with the
- 9:02Speaker 1: Miami incident coming to light when Nick Castellanos apparently like
- 9:06Speaker 1: had a Presidente beer in the dugout during a series
- 9:10Speaker 1: in Miami and rubbed everybody the wrong way in Philadelphia.
- 9:15Speaker 1: And I mean, given who like Castanos is from a
- 9:18Speaker 1: personality guy, he's always been a good like guy to
- 9:22Speaker 1: have in the clubhouse and kind of bombastic, it seems
- 9:24Speaker 1: like that. Not terribly surprised, but it is just kind
- 9:28Speaker 1: of the nail in the coffin that kicked Castanos out
- 9:31Speaker 1: of town landed with the San Diego Padres currently in
- 9:35Speaker 1: a short side platoon for them, that's how far Nick
- 9:38Speaker 1: Castellos has fallen off, and even to the point where
- 9:41Speaker 1: they're working them out first base to split time with
- 9:44Speaker 1: Gavin Sheets possibly, but I mean there's gonna be daylight
- 9:48Speaker 1: I think in San Diego for Nick Castianos, are you
- 9:52Speaker 1: in at all?
- 9:53Speaker 2: No? I can't. Like the profile under needs looks terrible,
- 9:57Speaker 2: Like he's average basically a hundred BRC plus lest like
- 10:01Speaker 2: four seasons straight and it's he's actually just kind of
- 10:04Speaker 2: been like a volume lineup position type of guy, which
- 10:08Speaker 2: is what is driven some of the value, but like
- 10:10Speaker 2: it dropped off last year. I I see him as
- 10:13Speaker 2: a platoon bat. I see him as a as a
- 10:16Speaker 2: risk basically, Like it's kind of like the CJ. Abrams
- 10:19Speaker 2: effect here of like do I trust that he's not
- 10:21Speaker 2: gonna make like good choices in life to actually be
- 10:24Speaker 2: able to stay on the team, Like like I usually
- 10:26Speaker 2: if you if you're considering that with like your drafting strategy, like, man,
- 10:30Speaker 2: this guy might get kicked off the team, Like that's
- 10:33Speaker 2: worse than injury risk if if you ask me so,
- 10:35Speaker 2: Like I'm just I just don't think I can I
- 10:38Speaker 2: can do it.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean the glove is awful.
- 10:41Speaker 2: It's there isn't a glove, like there's not a yeah.
- 10:45Speaker 1: So yeah, I mean I think it's an a depth
- 10:47Speaker 1: kind of piece for the Padres right now, but I
- 10:50Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if he's not on the Padres in
- 10:53Speaker 1: a couple of months time. And it's kind of bouncing
- 10:55Speaker 1: around in DFA land all season. So uh yeah, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: think I'm with you too. I think Nick Casos, it's
- 11:02Speaker 1: probably the end of the line for him here in
- 11:04Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, I think, so Okay, Well, San Diego
- 11:08Speaker 1: also went out and signed three pitchers out there, So
- 11:12Speaker 1: they picked up Aramon Marquez, Griffin Canning, and Walker Bieler
- 11:15Speaker 1: to try to see if they can find any gems
- 11:18Speaker 1: to add to the back of that rotation. I mean,
- 11:22Speaker 1: we've talked about it many times. It's a great place
- 11:24Speaker 1: to pitch. It's a pitcher's park. You get the Marine
- 11:26Speaker 1: Layer in San Diego as well for all their night games,
- 11:29Speaker 1: and on top of it, it should be a relatively
- 11:32Speaker 1: solid defense Nicks aside, and so it's always a fascinating
- 11:38Speaker 1: spot for pictures as well as like these three dudes
- 11:41Speaker 1: have been dudes in the past. You know, Marquez was
- 11:45Speaker 1: the one pitcher outside of you Wallow him Inez that
- 11:48Speaker 1: anybody's probably ever owned for Fantasy in Colorado. Walker Bieler
- 11:52Speaker 1: was like a top of the rotation arm, but really
- 11:57Speaker 1: has not been able to bounce back from that additional
- 11:59Speaker 1: time John Surgery and Griffin Canning was looking like a
- 12:02Speaker 1: solid usable piece for a back end of a rotation
- 12:06Speaker 1: for Fantasy last season until he went down with an
- 12:08Speaker 1: Achilles' tear as he found some luck with the New
- 12:11Speaker 1: York Mets. So uh, any intrigue in any of these
- 12:14Speaker 1: arms given that San Diego is just such a great
- 12:17Speaker 1: place to pitch, and you've seen pretty decent highs for
- 12:21Speaker 1: all these pictures at one point in their careers.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I I generally no, like there's not
- 12:26Speaker 2: a whole lot here, Like there's just red flags galore
- 12:29Speaker 2: with the group. Honestly, like MARQUEZMANI signed him, Like was
- 12:32Speaker 2: Marquez still playing? Like yeah he was. He's pitching thirty
- 12:35Speaker 2: games in Colorado and giving up like seventeen runs a game,
- 12:38Speaker 2: So like, yeah, there's a different there. Like, if if
- 12:42Speaker 2: I have to pick one to kind of like watch,
- 12:45Speaker 2: maybe Walker Bueller just because of how high end he
- 12:48Speaker 2: was at one point in time and now again it's
- 12:50Speaker 2: been a few years, the velocities dropped off, and like
- 12:53Speaker 2: he just hasn't got the pitch shape back. But overall,
- 12:57Speaker 2: I just I just don't see any of these guys
- 12:59Speaker 2: being intrigue. It feels like they're throwing darts hoping somebody
- 13:03Speaker 2: looks great in spring training, the shape of their life
- 13:06Speaker 2: type of thing, and I just I don't think it's
- 13:08Speaker 2: gonna happen.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. I mean, I think all
- 13:11Speaker 1: of them, you can probably watch list and maybe see
- 13:14Speaker 1: how they're trending over the spring. But yeah, all three
- 13:16Speaker 1: of them, it's been a while since we've seen their
- 13:19Speaker 1: best tippy top work. I mean, Canning looked pretty good
- 13:22Speaker 1: last year, but it's tough. He's gonna be out for
- 13:24Speaker 1: a couple months recovering still from that achilles. And I
- 13:27Speaker 1: mean Marquez is maybe the one that I'm like, eh,
- 13:30Speaker 1: maybe they could if you know, new pitching, but like
- 13:34Speaker 1: he's been banged up with injuries and has just never
- 13:37Speaker 1: kind of been able to bounce back. But I mean,
- 13:39Speaker 1: if you do see Marquez maybe dialing it back up
- 13:42Speaker 1: to his previous radar numbers, then I might I might
- 13:46Speaker 1: take a flyer on him or two, but not not
- 13:49Speaker 1: really investing anywhere until I can kind of see some
- 13:53Speaker 1: action from all these guys across the board. Okay, next
- 13:57Speaker 1: signing we have is Luis Renhifo in older signing with
- 14:01Speaker 1: the Milwaukee Brewers, which is, honestly, this makes that Caleb
- 14:04Speaker 1: Durbin trade look like a highway robbery for the Brewers
- 14:07Speaker 1: because like they just sent Durbin out and pretty much
- 14:11Speaker 1: replaced him with about the same player in Renifo, where
- 14:14Speaker 1: like the daylight between them is not huge. I mean,
- 14:18Speaker 1: Renifo did have a tough year a seventy three WRIC
- 14:21Speaker 1: plus with two thirty eight, two eighty seven, three thirty
- 14:24Speaker 1: five slash line last year, but it came with nine homers,
- 14:27Speaker 1: it came with ten stolen bases. He was banged up,
- 14:31Speaker 1: and before that he put up twenty four stolen bases
- 14:34Speaker 1: and hit three hundred the year before in twenty twenty four,
- 14:36Speaker 1: certainly doesn't swing it very hard, but he's penciled in
- 14:40Speaker 1: as the starting third basement right now for the Milwaukee Brewers,
- 14:42Speaker 1: So you can tell I've been on Rahefo in the past.
- 14:46Speaker 1: It's it's a bit of like a volume play and
- 14:48Speaker 1: just letting him kind of be in that lineup. I
- 14:50Speaker 1: think I'll probably end up with him in some places
- 14:53Speaker 1: as long as he's playing every day in Milwaukee. So
- 14:56Speaker 1: what do you think are you also in that boat?
- 14:58Speaker 1: I know we'll get into it in a little bit
- 15:00Speaker 1: our ale Central preview that I'm like, am I like,
- 15:02Speaker 1: I'm like mass dungeon master, the am I back end
- 15:05Speaker 1: options and men, he fos right in that mix for me.
- 15:07Speaker 2: Now, yeah, this is your kind of guy one hundred percent,
- 15:10Speaker 2: Like you can see it a mile away. I mean
- 15:13Speaker 2: I questioned a little bit like I don't understand what
- 15:15Speaker 2: the Brewers are doing here, like like maybe this is
- 15:18Speaker 2: the Bruis thing, right, They just they do a really
- 15:21Speaker 2: good job with asset management, what's just call it that?
- 15:24Speaker 2: And he he is that kind of guy that you
- 15:30Speaker 2: hopefully gets, you know, multiposition eligibility or something like that,
- 15:33Speaker 2: and then you can throw him in and he might
- 15:35Speaker 2: sneak a homer, might steak a steel. He's not going
- 15:37Speaker 2: to terribly hurt you. So like this is a good
- 15:39Speaker 2: bench piece for me. I'm not probably there in the
- 15:42Speaker 2: middle infield piece at this point because I just think
- 15:44Speaker 2: there's so many other options with more upside. He's not
- 15:48Speaker 2: a two forty hitter. He is more of a two
- 15:49Speaker 2: fifty two sixty hitter, So there's a little more upside
- 15:52Speaker 2: than the last year. But at the same time, like
- 15:55Speaker 2: I'm not he's not a guy I'm gonna target. I
- 15:57Speaker 2: might at the end of the draft, like, well, there's
- 16:00Speaker 2: there's worst options, so I'll take Rahifo. That's probably the
- 16:03Speaker 2: approach I'll have with him.
- 16:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you're in a drafting hole situation, it's
- 16:07Speaker 1: also a huge arrow up because on NFBC he has
- 16:10Speaker 1: second base and third base, so that is this is
- 16:13Speaker 1: the type of roster sylve that like really kind of
- 16:16Speaker 1: holds you together all season because the Milwaukee really doesn't
- 16:19Speaker 1: have a great third base option right now outside of Renhefo.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Like maybe you'll see a little David Hamilton there. I
- 16:25Speaker 1: guess we'll see if they like push Jet Williams this year,
- 16:28Speaker 1: but I don't think there's anybody coming for third base
- 16:31Speaker 1: until like Andrew Fisher is ready, which probably isn't going
- 16:34Speaker 1: to be till twenty twenty seven. In my book, Okay,
- 16:38Speaker 1: we've got one injury and it does hit our Al
- 16:41Speaker 1: Central preview a little bit, so we we touch on
- 16:44Speaker 1: it a little bit. But Pablo Lopez showed back up
- 16:47Speaker 1: to camp and that elbow injury he had in the
- 16:49Speaker 1: fall somehow didn't magically heal itself. Although in the fall
- 16:54Speaker 1: they were calling it just more of like forearm tightness.
- 16:57Speaker 1: They said there wasn't significant damage. But obviously whatever happened
- 17:01Speaker 1: in the offseason as Lopez tried to work his way
- 17:03Speaker 1: back resulted in that UCL being fully torn. Now they're
- 17:08Speaker 1: still weighing whether or not it's going to be internal
- 17:10Speaker 1: brace or Tommy John surgery, I think, but probably going
- 17:13Speaker 1: to be down Pablo Lopez all of twenty twenty six,
- 17:17Speaker 1: maybe even a little bit into twenty twenty seven. It
- 17:20Speaker 1: was kind of a tough year for him anyway last year,
- 17:23Speaker 1: and you know now he's going to be turning thirty
- 17:27Speaker 1: one before he hits the field again, and actually, like
- 17:32Speaker 1: Russ resources him right at thirty he oh, he turns.
- 17:34Speaker 1: It's just a couple of weeks. It's a March seventh.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I thought maybe it'd be like his birthday to day.
- 17:38Speaker 1: That'd be crazy. But what are you doing with Pablo Lopez?
- 17:42Speaker 1: Mostly in like a dynasty keeper situation where you've got
- 17:45Speaker 1: him in a long term, because we've seen some really
- 17:48Speaker 1: great work in those years in Miami and the first
- 17:52Speaker 1: year in Minnesota from Lopez, where he was a very
- 17:57Speaker 1: great number two pitcher. Do you think you're still holding on, hoping,
- 18:01Speaker 1: hoping for that he will be a free agent after
- 18:04Speaker 1: the twenty twenty seven season.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Yeah, this is a really tough one because of of
- 18:10Speaker 2: all pitchers out there, he's one of those guys it's
- 18:12Speaker 2: pretty much plug and play and you know what you're
- 18:14Speaker 2: gonna get, and it has been that for many years.
- 18:17Speaker 2: He's started to take a little step back, but like
- 18:20Speaker 2: he had three years straight of like one hundred and
- 18:22Speaker 2: eighty eight pitch. He was striking out a guy for
- 18:24Speaker 2: nine low walks, good whip, good year, like, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 2: not drilling the wins here in Minnesota. But and he's
- 18:31Speaker 2: still young enough that you know, on the back end
- 18:34Speaker 2: of this he can get built back up, have a
- 18:36Speaker 2: good maybe two three years uh, still of his quasi
- 18:39Speaker 2: quote unquote pitching prime. But it's it's gonna be tough
- 18:44Speaker 2: because I don't see much more than that. Like I
- 18:48Speaker 2: it's not gonna be too far. Before that, we were
- 18:49Speaker 2: talking about some other falloff and so you have to
- 18:53Speaker 2: come back, and it's really really hard when you have
- 18:55Speaker 2: these injuries. Right at the beginning of spring training, because
- 18:58Speaker 2: it's almost two seasons that you're gonna lose. So I'm
- 19:01Speaker 2: I'm not like fully out on him here, but I'm
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm lukewarm. If I have to drop him to take
- 19:09Speaker 2: a flyer on something that could really be breaking out,
- 19:11Speaker 2: I'm doing that in a heart beat.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I had some hope for him coming
- 19:15Speaker 1: into twenty six, partly because like the changes that we
- 19:18Speaker 1: saw in the Twins' coaching staff were giving me a
- 19:21Speaker 1: little more hope. Because especially this happened more in twenty
- 19:25Speaker 1: twenty four when you saw that home run rate spike
- 19:28Speaker 1: for Lopez up to one two six, which was the
- 19:31Speaker 1: worst of his career. Is that, like the pitching development
- 19:35Speaker 1: got a little out of whack. I think in Minnesota
- 19:38Speaker 1: in terms of like you could tell, especially in twenty four,
- 19:40Speaker 1: they were trying to do that Tampa Bay Ray's approach
- 19:43Speaker 1: of like, hey, just have the catcher set up in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the middle of the plate, pipe it over the middle
- 19:47Speaker 1: of the plate. Let your stuff work, and it did not
- 19:50Speaker 1: work for Pabo Lopez is it's solid stuff, but he's
- 19:53Speaker 1: more of a control based pitcher, and just like it
- 19:57Speaker 1: took him a while to unwind that. I think into
- 19:59Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, and then the injuries start cropping up.
- 20:01Speaker 1: So I'm still interested, I think a little bit in
- 20:04Speaker 1: the long run, but I'm not going to put too
- 20:06Speaker 1: many eggs into that basket just because he is going
- 20:09Speaker 1: to be thirty, you know, thirty one when he gets back,
- 20:12Speaker 1: and you never know how these surgeries can go when
- 20:15Speaker 1: you're starting to get a little bit more advanced in age. Yep, Okay, Well,
- 20:19Speaker 1: we do have I mean one bit of baseball card
- 20:22Speaker 1: news that I just want to hit it is that
- 20:24Speaker 1: we are speaking on Wednesday, February eighteenth, so it is
- 20:28Speaker 1: release date for Top Stadium Club. This is the first
- 20:31Speaker 1: time since we've been doing the pod that we haven't
- 20:33Speaker 1: had a full show dedicated to Stadium Club because they've
- 20:36Speaker 1: massacred our boy. I will say on this release it
- 20:40Speaker 1: has been brutal. I mean, I've been seeing some of
- 20:42Speaker 1: the boxes get posted on Reddit. It's been rough, especially
- 20:46Speaker 1: considering when people pre ordered this product, they were not
- 20:49Speaker 1: originally told up front that they were cutting a hit
- 20:52Speaker 1: from two hits and a poppy box down to one hit.
- 20:55Speaker 1: And then on top of it, you also have cut
- 20:58Speaker 1: all the chrome parallels out where you can and see
- 21:00Speaker 1: that the massive print runs that happened on twenty twenty
- 21:03Speaker 1: six Series one certainly impacted Stadium Club because they were able.
- 21:09Speaker 1: They went and dedicated resources for twenty six Series one
- 21:13Speaker 1: to the printing and left Stadium Color behind, which scares
- 21:17Speaker 1: me because a couple of years ago they were gonna
- 21:19Speaker 1: cut this product outright, even though it is hugely popular
- 21:23Speaker 1: in the hobby that like, I have nary run into
- 21:26Speaker 1: a person that has anything bad to stay about Stadium Club,
- 21:29Speaker 1: But like, what are they trying to do here? And
- 21:32Speaker 1: what is your level of disappointment Stadium Club?
- 21:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I'm very very disappointed. It is a
- 21:37Speaker 2: fantastic product. You're looking on card autos, you look in
- 21:40Speaker 2: amazing photography, Like the inserts are almost always good, Like
- 21:44Speaker 2: the parallel is questionable sometimes, like they're just changing loco
- 21:47Speaker 2: colors and things, but like overall it is just a
- 21:50Speaker 2: like if you're going to open packs like and just
- 21:53Speaker 2: like enjoy it and take it in. This is a
- 21:55Speaker 2: fantastic product, like and is there's nothing like a product
- 21:58Speaker 2: that you go through and you look at all the
- 21:59Speaker 2: pictures and you're like, is this a variance? Is this
- 22:01Speaker 2: a variant? Like because all the pictures in the photography
- 22:04Speaker 2: are so good, so it's a clean cards. I love
- 22:07Speaker 2: Stadium Club, but losing the chromes, losing the hits, the
- 22:10Speaker 2: price hasn't really changed, Like it's like they tried a
- 22:13Speaker 2: different way to bump up the print run and not
- 22:16Speaker 2: let you catch it versus what they did in ever
- 22:18Speaker 2: the product, which is just at a ton of pails
- 22:20Speaker 2: because you can't just do that in the stadium. So
- 22:22Speaker 2: I'm worried what this means for Stadium Club. I can't
- 22:25Speaker 2: see them getting rid of it because I think they
- 22:27Speaker 2: know better, But it seems like they have deprioritize Stadium
- 22:30Speaker 2: Club if if anything.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean I think on top of it too,
- 22:34Speaker 1: like I'm very, very lukewarm on the actual design of
- 22:38Speaker 1: it this year that it looks a little bit like
- 22:40Speaker 1: a like a museum club like design that they left
- 22:44Speaker 1: behind on the cutting floor. It just it just looks
- 22:47Speaker 1: a little too formal for Stadium Club. For me, that
- 22:50Speaker 1: Stadium Club always strikes like being a part of the action,
- 22:54Speaker 1: being really close to the game, trying to like be
- 22:57Speaker 1: a big time fan. And there's a little bit of
- 22:59Speaker 1: whimsy I think in that where it feels like they
- 23:03Speaker 1: carved it out at this twenty twenty five Stadium Club
- 23:05Speaker 1: on top of it coming out in mid February of
- 23:08Speaker 1: the year after that, usually it was a winter or
- 23:11Speaker 1: fall release. It really varied just because of the way
- 23:14Speaker 1: that they've been scheduling and rescheduling Stadium Club over the
- 23:18Speaker 1: past couple of years. So I'm disappointed. I'm a little
- 23:21Speaker 1: bit worried about what it means for a stadium Club,
- 23:23Speaker 1: But I'm also maybe holding out a grain of hope
- 23:27Speaker 1: that Tops and FiNext hear the feedback on this, realized
- 23:32Speaker 1: that they got it maybe a little bit over their
- 23:34Speaker 1: skis on printing Series one and all the basketball cards
- 23:38Speaker 1: and bring back Stadium Club to its final glory. If not,
- 23:42Speaker 1: consult us, we'll help you out. We're right here, Tops. Okay, Well,
- 23:46Speaker 1: with that, we're gonna wrap up this news and Notes section.
- 23:49Speaker 1: We're going to take a small break. We'll be back
- 23:51Speaker 1: on the other end with our guest Marty Tallman from
- 23:54Speaker 1: Rotoballer to previl preview the Al Central. As he is
- 23:58Speaker 1: a Detroit Tiger, san knows it very very well. All right,
- 24:17Speaker 1: welcome back to everybody. We're going to get right into
- 24:20Speaker 1: our Ale Central preview and to preview this Let's just
- 24:24Speaker 1: call it a rough division because as we do these
- 24:27Speaker 1: divisional previews every year, there's always one that kind of
- 24:30Speaker 1: stands out as the odd child, and I would say
- 24:33Speaker 1: that the Al Central is that win this year, not
- 24:36Speaker 1: that this is an odd child. Marty, you are a
- 24:38Speaker 1: great man, Marty Tallman from Rotoballer joining us here. How
- 24:42Speaker 1: you doing tonight, Buddy.
- 24:43Speaker 3: Doing great, Michael, Thanks for having me. Yeah, excited to
- 24:47Speaker 3: talk baseball. We were talking offline. You know, it's finally
- 24:50Speaker 3: getting a little bit warmer here in the Midwest as
- 24:52Speaker 3: we've been sitting in our homes calming through fangrafts and
- 24:56Speaker 3: auction calculators and doing drafts and all that different type
- 24:59Speaker 3: of stuff, and it's fine. Only almost draft season, so
- 25:01Speaker 3: I'm excited.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yes, And I'm sure I'll find you in a draft
- 25:05Speaker 1: room because you and I have faced off in many
- 25:07Speaker 1: a league of just other fantasy dinzen's out there, so
- 25:13Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll find each other again in RAZ SLAM
- 25:16Speaker 1: or TGFBI or something like that. So if you're not
- 25:19Speaker 1: familiar with Marty's work at Roto Waller, you are also
- 25:23Speaker 1: from Detroit. You hail from Detroit, so that's why you're
- 25:25Speaker 1: joining us here on the AL Central. You've got great
- 25:28Speaker 1: insight to all these teams. Let everybody know where they
- 25:30Speaker 1: can reach you on socials and anything else that you
- 25:33Speaker 1: might want to promote.
- 25:35Speaker 3: Suh. Yeah, you can reach me on accept Marty underscore Tallman,
- 25:38Speaker 3: and my work right now primarily is at Roadaballer. I
- 25:42Speaker 3: actually just published an article recently going through like mid
- 25:48Speaker 3: to late round draft targets, and I'm actually going to
- 25:49Speaker 3: talk about two of them today because they fit right
- 25:51Speaker 3: into our discussion. But yeah, if you have any questions
- 25:55Speaker 3: or comments or anything like that, always feel free to
- 25:57Speaker 3: reach me.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Awesome. Well, yeah, that is a perfect marriage with this podcast.
- 26:02Speaker 1: What we're going to do here for the ALE Central
- 26:03Speaker 1: preview is we are going to go through each team
- 26:06Speaker 1: and each offer up a buy and sell based on
- 26:10Speaker 1: current ADP from NFBC data. We're working from just about
- 26:14Speaker 1: January first through today as we're speaking here on February eighteenth.
- 26:19Speaker 1: Given that, though some caveats as we've gone over the
- 26:22Speaker 1: past few weeks in these divisional previews, closers are going
- 26:25Speaker 1: to be a little bit inflated in the FBC environment,
- 26:28Speaker 1: but I think that's starting to reflect prices a little
- 26:31Speaker 1: bit better as we've gotten into this divisional previews more
- 26:34Speaker 1: and more, and then some of these injury guys, like
- 26:37Speaker 1: a big one we'll talk about with Pabo Lopez. He's
- 26:39Speaker 1: obviously going to be a pretty easy cell considering he
- 26:41Speaker 1: went down with that UCL injury. With all those caveats,
- 26:46Speaker 1: we also love to do this with live surprises, so
- 26:48Speaker 1: we don't know each other's picks before we get into this,
- 26:51Speaker 1: and we're just going to comb through the Ale Central.
- 26:54Speaker 1: We're going to go alphabetically, starting with the Chicago White Sox.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Not because you know they're kind of the team that
- 27:00Speaker 1: I like to promote here and talk positively of their
- 27:04Speaker 1: offseason moves. I know, Brew, you haven't been exactly the
- 27:06Speaker 1: biggest fan of me doing that over the past few months,
- 27:09Speaker 1: but because this is there one exactly, yes, but this
- 27:14Speaker 1: is how I organize my baseball cards. I go by
- 27:17Speaker 1: division and then alphabetic ley by team. Let's get into
- 27:20Speaker 1: these White Socks. They're coming off of a better year
- 27:24Speaker 1: than that bleak twenty twenty four, but they did once
- 27:27Speaker 1: again finish last in the division, going sixty to one
- 27:30Speaker 1: oh two. I will say that like this is an
- 27:33Speaker 1: intriguing lineup because it is very very young. You've got
- 27:36Speaker 1: Austin Hayes and Andrew Ben and Tendy. Both of them
- 27:39Speaker 1: are just over thirty. Austin Hayes at thirty and Andrew
- 27:43Speaker 1: Ben and Tendy at thirty one. They're the elder statesman
- 27:46Speaker 1: of this lineup, as everybody else in the lineup is
- 27:49Speaker 1: twenty six or younger. The big acquisition in the off season,
- 27:53Speaker 1: we actually saw a big acquisition from the White Sox.
- 27:56Speaker 1: They dip their toe in spending on some international play
- 28:00Speaker 1: with Mundataka and Murray Kami coming across, who should be
- 28:03Speaker 1: slated as the everyday first baseman. They also traded Luise
- 28:06Speaker 1: Robert for Louis Anhelacuna Junior or Louis Robert Junior for
- 28:12Speaker 1: Louis on Hunkcunya. And then they added a few pictures
- 28:15Speaker 1: that I alluded to. So you got Anthony Kaye joining
- 28:17Speaker 1: the squad Eric Fetti. You've also got Sean Newcomb. They
- 28:22Speaker 1: traded for Jordan Hicks, and they've got Sir Anthony Dominiez
- 28:25Speaker 1: holding down the back and in that bullpen. So I
- 28:28Speaker 1: think it'll be a little bit of an up barrow
- 28:29Speaker 1: for the White Sox. I'm just intrigued by this young team.
- 28:32Speaker 1: So with all those setups here, Marty, who you buying
- 28:36Speaker 1: from the Chicago White Sox squad because there's a lot
- 28:38Speaker 1: of opportunity in Chicago.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Yeah, there is. I mean, this happens a lot with
- 28:43Speaker 3: teams that obviously aren't aren't very good. A lot of
- 28:45Speaker 3: their players fall even though they're going to be playing
- 28:48Speaker 3: all the time. So but that doesn't really showcase my guy,
- 28:52Speaker 3: this is Sir Anthony Dominez. So for me, once he signed,
- 28:59Speaker 3: it opened up another path to another reliever, you know,
- 29:02Speaker 3: after the big ones go. So he's going about the
- 29:05Speaker 3: eleventh round in a fifteen team league. He's the undisputable closer.
- 29:09Speaker 3: He was paid twenty million for two years, which I
- 29:12Speaker 3: think was I would call that kind of an overpay,
- 29:15Speaker 3: but I mean it's the White Sox. I guess you
- 29:17Speaker 3: have to really entice someone to come there, So I
- 29:19Speaker 3: guess I understand that. But last year thirty percent strikeout
- 29:23Speaker 3: rate across sixty three innings. You know, he's had saves
- 29:26Speaker 3: before eleven and twenty twenty four and really back in
- 29:29Speaker 3: the day with the Phillies in twenty eighteen he had sixteen.
- 29:32Speaker 3: But the biggest thing that sticks out to me is
- 29:34Speaker 3: his arsenal. You know, he has four pitches. You know,
- 29:38Speaker 3: for a relief pitcher, that's very rare. You know, a
- 29:40Speaker 3: one fourteen stuff plus. He averages ninety five on the fastball,
- 29:44Speaker 3: but he can get up to ninety eight if he
- 29:45Speaker 3: needs to. He has a good sweeper, a good split finger.
- 29:49Speaker 3: They both had a forty nine percent with rate. He
- 29:52Speaker 3: can be wild. He's an eighty four location plus and
- 29:55Speaker 3: he looked at a strikeout rate it was double digits
- 29:57Speaker 3: last year. But it's it's an undis suitable closer that
- 30:01Speaker 3: you don't have to waste, you know, one of your
- 30:03Speaker 3: first five rounds on. You know, he could be your
- 30:05Speaker 3: RP two in a fifteen team league and you're good
- 30:08Speaker 3: to go. It's at a good I like his price
- 30:10Speaker 3: for that.
- 30:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's very fair. As we've gotten into
- 30:13Speaker 1: these previews, I've been very lukewarm on a lot of
- 30:17Speaker 1: the RP two options, and I think, Sir Anthony Dominguez,
- 30:21Speaker 1: what you're looking for in an RP two and in
- 30:22Speaker 1: my book, is steadiness as well as floor like, there
- 30:27Speaker 1: is nobody else in this bullpen in Chicago, especially with
- 30:30Speaker 1: that contract they gave Dimingez I think is coming for
- 30:33Speaker 1: that job. I don't know if I'm quite in with
- 30:35Speaker 1: the Siko that went the men pick on eighty eight
- 30:38Speaker 1: for s Anthony Demingez in the FBC data right now,
- 30:41Speaker 1: that's maybe a little bit rich for my taste, But
- 30:43Speaker 1: I think you can build around a bullpen with him
- 30:46Speaker 1: as your sp or RP two brew. Who are you
- 30:50Speaker 1: buying from the White Sox?
- 30:52Speaker 2: Yeah, well, there's a ton of opportunity here. There's a
- 30:54Speaker 2: lot of guys that I do like, but I'm I'm
- 30:56Speaker 2: gonna go across I was across the pond, can I
- 30:58Speaker 2: say that? And I'm gonna go with Munataka Murakami. I mean,
- 31:03Speaker 2: I thought he was gonna get the big name in
- 31:05Speaker 2: this offseason, and actually a lot of people did. And
- 31:08Speaker 2: then lots of concerns with his ability to hit you know, fastballs,
- 31:12Speaker 2: and how he's gonna translate and all that, and he's
- 31:14Speaker 2: dropped significantly in ADP. He's in the two current ADP
- 31:19Speaker 2: is two twenty two. And for a guy that's like
- 31:23Speaker 2: your fifteenth third basement off the board and will have
- 31:25Speaker 2: third base and first base eligibility and could potentially hit
- 31:29Speaker 2: thirty five home runs from that spot, I'm I'm taking
- 31:32Speaker 2: the gamble, Like I'm just not too concerned that he's
- 31:35Speaker 2: not the term. The power is not gonna translate. He's
- 31:37Speaker 2: a strong guy, he's a talent hitter. He's gonna figure
- 31:40Speaker 2: things out. And if I'm wrong, it didn't cost me
- 31:43Speaker 2: that much. And so I look at the upside at
- 31:45Speaker 2: that potential, and you're not finding that level of upside
- 31:49Speaker 2: of a guy that's gonna play every single day, have
- 31:51Speaker 2: multipositional eligibility, and like I know, I said thirty five homers,
- 31:55Speaker 2: but he could legitimately hit forty or forty five if
- 31:58Speaker 2: he like translates truly what he was doing over an
- 32:01Speaker 2: MPB to the MLB. So I think Maurakami is a
- 32:05Speaker 2: great buy at this at this cost because it's not
- 32:07Speaker 2: really gonna really hamper your draft, and at this point
- 32:11Speaker 2: a low average is going to be palatable. So I
- 32:14Speaker 2: like Markami. I think he's gonna do good things. It
- 32:16Speaker 2: might take a little time to get off the starting
- 32:19Speaker 2: blocks as he adjust but it should be a pretty
- 32:22Speaker 2: pretty easy buy.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Yep. I actually consider Murakami as my buy for a
- 32:26Speaker 1: lot of those reasons. And I mean, I think the
- 32:29Speaker 1: market it's been scared by that contact rate in Japan,
- 32:32Speaker 1: but he's locked into an everyday job at the White
- 32:35Speaker 1: Sox that injuries, I think the only thing that's going
- 32:37Speaker 1: to prevent him from playing every day, And that's exactly
- 32:41Speaker 1: I think what you wanted from Murakami. The bigger worry
- 32:43Speaker 1: is if he had signed with a contender where they
- 32:47Speaker 1: could have had him be in a platoon or ride
- 32:49Speaker 1: the pine. If things are struggling, there's nothing to stop
- 32:52Speaker 1: him from the White Sox from rolling him out there
- 32:54Speaker 1: every day and letting him figure it out. And maybe
- 32:56Speaker 1: just even if it is with a pretty low batting average,
- 32:59Speaker 1: I think he could be mid thirties homers. So I
- 33:01Speaker 1: think this is a great pick.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Marty.
- 33:03Speaker 1: What do you think about Murakami given the just real
- 33:06Speaker 1: different polar opposites of takes you see on him.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Yeah, so when I look at his ADP, so, I'd
- 33:14Speaker 3: like to put it in the context. So if you're
- 33:16Speaker 3: looking for let's say, you know, a third basement, potentially
- 33:18Speaker 3: first basement down the road or corner infielder Caleb durban
- 33:22Speaker 3: Is in that area, Jose capiiro Addison Barger and Esak Cretis,
- 33:28Speaker 3: It's easy for I mean, I see in Markami's that
- 33:30Speaker 3: to me really stands out as far as having the
- 33:32Speaker 3: highest ceiling, you know, so it's unless you need steals,
- 33:36Speaker 3: you know where he's going. I think it's great, and
- 33:39Speaker 3: I think it's funny when you look at his his
- 33:41Speaker 3: fan grafts page and he has a seventy seventy for
- 33:45Speaker 3: power or gain power seventy seventy and then raw power
- 33:48Speaker 3: eighty eighty. So I mean, that's that's just exciting, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 3: if you can get him in a fifteen team league,
- 33:54Speaker 3: you know, as your corner infielder. I think he did
- 33:56Speaker 3: a really good job. But just in case, you're going
- 33:58Speaker 3: to have to be ready for build, you know, you're
- 34:01Speaker 3: gonna have to have several high batting average guys to
- 34:04Speaker 3: kind of offset that in case he does, you know,
- 34:06Speaker 3: flirt with the Mendoza line. You know, that's not impossible
- 34:09Speaker 3: with those contact rates. But overall, I love the buy
- 34:11Speaker 3: a lot of upside.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Yeah, give me, give me a Joey Gallow coup, like
- 34:15Speaker 2: in All the Good and Bad with Joey Gallow, Like
- 34:18Speaker 2: that's kind of what I see here. Maybe the diet version,
- 34:21Speaker 2: little less walks, little less strikeouts, a little better average,
- 34:24Speaker 2: but in all things considered power and that's about it.
- 34:29Speaker 1: All right, I've got a different buy, So mine is
- 34:32Speaker 1: going to be Chase. My draft the second basement right now.
- 34:35Speaker 1: So the big reason here is it almost is a
- 34:38Speaker 1: little bit mirrored to murraw comedy that my draft is
- 34:41Speaker 1: set up to be the starting second basement and Hit
- 34:43Speaker 1: at the top of this order currently has an ADP
- 34:47Speaker 1: of three thirty seven average in the NFBC data, and
- 34:53Speaker 1: I just love him as a great volume based am
- 34:56Speaker 1: I option. I don't think I think you're looking at
- 34:59Speaker 1: a pretty solid bat average something like to sixty ish
- 35:03Speaker 1: and maybe even upside from more because he is a
- 35:05Speaker 1: contact maven. I think that in his first taste in
- 35:08Speaker 1: the majors last year A twenty three, he held his
- 35:11Speaker 1: own enough. But like you can see, he got pretty
- 35:15Speaker 1: good rate stats as he came through the miners with
- 35:17Speaker 1: the red Sox and white Sox. Also just has a
- 35:21Speaker 1: really crazy good eye. So even if he like he
- 35:24Speaker 1: does have a really terrible barrel rate, and he has
- 35:26Speaker 1: like a lot of Nico Horner traits. And I think
- 35:29Speaker 1: we've even talked about this in last year's previews brew,
- 35:31Speaker 1: where you and I have not been the biggest Nico
- 35:33Speaker 1: Horner fans, but only because of the price that Like,
- 35:37Speaker 1: when you get somebody like this that is high contact,
- 35:40Speaker 1: lots of runs at the top of a lineup, can
- 35:43Speaker 1: put up a decent batting average for you play m
- 35:45Speaker 1: I and is pretty much free Towards the end of
- 35:48Speaker 1: the draft when you're rounding things out, I love it
- 35:50Speaker 1: should come with second in shortstop eligibility. I think you're
- 35:54Speaker 1: looking at him being able to push fifteen plus steals,
- 35:58Speaker 1: and I think all the are just low on him
- 36:01Speaker 1: across the board. You they're not really projecting him for
- 36:04Speaker 1: more than one hundred and twenty five ish games. When
- 36:07Speaker 1: you bump that up a little bit more to like
- 36:08Speaker 1: one forty one fifty, which my draft would do. If
- 36:11Speaker 1: he can stick in that second base job, then you're
- 36:14Speaker 1: starting to see the runs really pick up into like
- 36:16Speaker 1: the eighties. You're starting to see the stolen basis pick up.
- 36:18Speaker 1: And I think it's gonna be an easy win all
- 36:20Speaker 1: the spots if you take my draft at is draft cost.
- 36:25Speaker 1: You can notice I do think this is skip all
- 36:28Speaker 1: of his savant page because it is nasty, but it's
- 36:30Speaker 1: a volume based am I play.
- 36:31Speaker 2: It's it's a volume, And these are the kind of
- 36:33Speaker 2: guys that you want to draft in your ale only leagues,
- 36:37Speaker 2: your deep roster leagues like that. Just when you get
- 36:41Speaker 2: to these really thin free agent pools, a guy like
- 36:44Speaker 2: this you just have on your bench or your middle
- 36:46Speaker 2: infield or something like that. Well, the volume is what plays,
- 36:49Speaker 2: and so I'm okay with it. I know you love
- 36:51Speaker 2: these kind of guys. I'll take a little more upside
- 36:54Speaker 2: somewhere else, but I don't have a problem with it
- 36:55Speaker 2: as a buye.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Okay, Marty, who you selling from the White Sox?
- 37:00Speaker 3: I was gonna say last thing on Chase, Oh yeah,
- 37:03Speaker 3: really good Draft Champions pick. I think he's the perfect
- 37:06Speaker 3: Draft Champions pick, just to have somebody you can plug
- 37:08Speaker 3: him there you expect to play, you know, most games.
- 37:11Speaker 3: But what is funny when you look at the ADP
- 37:13Speaker 3: the guy closest to him going next to the luis
- 37:15Speaker 3: An Hill Acunya. So who would you rather have?
- 37:18Speaker 2: Michael?
- 37:20Speaker 1: I will take my draft. I have faith in my draft. Also,
- 37:24Speaker 1: sticking like my draft has a slick glove, so he's
- 37:28Speaker 1: going to play second base. Akunya like he doesn't have
- 37:32Speaker 1: the same sort of glove, And like I think my
- 37:35Speaker 1: draft's eye at the plate is something. Honestly, this is
- 37:38Speaker 1: what we wanted Nick Madrigal to be. He just never
- 37:41Speaker 1: quite like worked out in Chicago. But like, this is
- 37:44Speaker 1: what you were looking at, somebody who puts up a
- 37:46Speaker 1: solid batting average, great eye, good defense place. But let's
- 37:51Speaker 1: get into those cells now, Marty, who you selling?
- 37:55Speaker 3: So this is the guy actually had a lot last
- 37:56Speaker 3: year in DC's Colson Montgomery. I gotta sell him this year.
- 38:01Speaker 3: High strikeout rate, low contact rate, that's always bit his
- 38:04Speaker 3: m but the fact that he doesn't steal bases on
- 38:06Speaker 3: top of that. So when you're looking at your middle
- 38:10Speaker 3: infield position at that point, you need a Byron Scott.
- 38:13Speaker 3: You're a brycele Skuy like. You need somebody who's gonna
- 38:15Speaker 3: get your fifteen to twenty stolen bases, because if you're
- 38:17Speaker 3: not getting that from your middle infield position, you are
- 38:20Speaker 3: falling behind. Now, unless you've got a third basement like
- 38:23Speaker 3: you know Mike hel Garcia. He fills in and gives
- 38:25Speaker 3: you those steals at third base. But for the most part,
- 38:28Speaker 3: you're gonna have to find somebody that can get you
- 38:29Speaker 3: fifteen twenty bags, and that's just not going to happen.
- 38:33Speaker 3: From Montgomery plus the you know, the teen contact obviously,
- 38:36Speaker 3: you know he's gonna be hitting. I assume sixth seventh
- 38:40Speaker 3: in that order. Correct me if I'm wrong. Twenty nine
- 38:43Speaker 3: percent strike out rate, thirty two percent with rate under
- 38:47Speaker 3: seventy percent contact rate, and then there's Xander Bogarts who's
- 38:50Speaker 3: going right after him. And it's just there's no way
- 38:54Speaker 3: that I'm taking Montgomery over Bogarts. Bogarts had a two
- 38:57Speaker 3: sixty seven XBA. He only strikes out seven teen percent
- 39:00Speaker 3: of the time. He's thirty three years old, which is
- 39:02Speaker 3: an ancient you know, I think we because of his contract.
- 39:05Speaker 3: I think we don't think he's as good a player
- 39:07Speaker 3: as he is. He's been pretty consistent as long as
- 39:09Speaker 3: he stays healthy. He still expected to play every days.
- 39:12Speaker 3: And I project Bogarts for about fourteen fifteen home runs,
- 39:16Speaker 3: fifteen sixteen steals, bat in like two sixty and that
- 39:19Speaker 3: to me is a lot more value than Montgomery.
- 39:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. It's the approach at the
- 39:27Speaker 1: plate scares the living daylights out of me with Montgomery,
- 39:30Speaker 1: and it just feels like the league didn't quite get
- 39:34Speaker 1: to adjust to him from that hot start in the
- 39:37Speaker 1: seventy one games you just watch it live. There are
- 39:40Speaker 1: holes all over that swing, and so I'm worried. Brow
- 39:43Speaker 1: what do you think about Montgomery? We haven't really ever
- 39:45Speaker 1: talked about him too much because he kind of like
- 39:48Speaker 1: rose through the ranks of my waiver wire pieces last
- 39:51Speaker 1: year too quickly and never cracked the top one hundred
- 39:54Speaker 1: hitters for you. So he's kind of in that blind
- 39:56Speaker 1: spot for us.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Yeah, he's kind of an enigma. Like it's one of
- 40:00Speaker 2: you look at the stat line, You're like, man, young,
- 40:02Speaker 2: up and comer, this guy's gonna mash. You just got
- 40:04Speaker 2: to figure out for average. But you're right, there's just
- 40:07Speaker 2: holes all over it. And it's not even that that
- 40:09Speaker 2: profile that I liked. There's like if the guy just
- 40:11Speaker 2: learns a little bit of plate patients, it's gonna take off.
- 40:14Speaker 2: Like he's got holes in like the actual swing itself,
- 40:18Speaker 2: Like it's not always power, it's not always good contact.
- 40:21Speaker 2: It is very much questionable contact plus a very questionable approach.
- 40:25Speaker 2: So I he was like one B to my one
- 40:29Speaker 2: A cell. I was right there. I just like, there's
- 40:33Speaker 2: enough youth there. I'll maybe give it a shot against
- 40:36Speaker 2: the guy I had. But either way I'm not gonna
- 40:38Speaker 2: own him, So I have zero problem with that. I
- 40:40Speaker 2: just finished my top one hundred rankings just a few
- 40:44Speaker 2: days ago, and I didn't even consider him. I wouldn't.
- 40:47Speaker 2: There was like a where's the at in the next
- 40:49Speaker 2: like I like, he wasn't on the page at all
- 40:52Speaker 2: for any consideration, even though he hit, you know, twenty
- 40:54Speaker 2: one homers last year.
- 40:55Speaker 1: Year. He's got one believer out there mid pick of
- 40:57Speaker 1: thirty seven. That guy lives half and there. Yeah, that
- 41:02Speaker 1: guy lives right next to rate Field on this outside.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Whoever picked that guy? Okay, who's yourself? From the socks.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So I'm going to sell an the guy that's going
- 41:13Speaker 2: not too far back there from Montgomery, and it's gonna
- 41:16Speaker 2: be Miguel Vargas. I'm gonna sell Vargas from a perspective
- 41:20Speaker 2: of like he is what he is, one hundred and
- 41:22Speaker 2: three eight games last year, sixteen homer, six steals, two
- 41:24Speaker 2: thirty four average. Pencil it in again. He this is
- 41:28Speaker 2: like the laziest flyball profile that's out there, Like the
- 41:31Speaker 2: launch angles like twenty two to twenty three percent. He's
- 41:34Speaker 2: hitting flyballs at like a fifty percent rate, but he
- 41:37Speaker 2: doesn't hit it terribly hard, and so it never like
- 41:41Speaker 2: if the wind's blown out, it kind of kind of
- 41:42Speaker 2: makes it out. But that's just begging for a low
- 41:44Speaker 2: average and he's just not going to drive it enough
- 41:48Speaker 2: runs at that perspective. So he's always been a guy
- 41:52Speaker 2: that's been like a I'm gonna have a quad a
- 41:54Speaker 2: label where he's really really good against that next level
- 41:58Speaker 2: down of pitching. I just don't think he's fit it
- 42:00Speaker 2: out and has enough power to actually make it matter
- 42:03Speaker 2: playing you know, first, third base corner infield position. So
- 42:07Speaker 2: I'm out in Vargas. I just don't see enough upside.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I don't see a talent, you know, improvement coming here
- 42:12Speaker 2: in an adjustment. He just isn't strong enough to be a
- 42:15Speaker 2: twenty five to thirty homer bat, which is what i'd want,
- 42:18Speaker 2: you know, for this kind of guy with a low
- 42:19Speaker 2: batting average profile.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all fair. On top of it, too,
- 42:25Speaker 1: hands made out of stone, Like it's gonna be tough
- 42:27Speaker 1: at third base. It always has been for Vargas. And
- 42:30Speaker 1: this is actually a team that like has a ton
- 42:32Speaker 1: of infielders, and I think if Vargas is not putting
- 42:36Speaker 1: up a great WRC plus and is playing poor defense.
- 42:40Speaker 1: They're going to find a different role for him because
- 42:43Speaker 1: the other problem is he can't move to first now
- 42:45Speaker 1: with Maura comun in town. So, Marty, what's your take
- 42:48Speaker 1: here on on Miguel Vargas.
- 42:52Speaker 3: I do like that his strikeout percentage is down to
- 42:54Speaker 3: seventeen point six and that was over five hundred and
- 42:57Speaker 3: sixty nine played appearances. So the recognition is there. What
- 43:01Speaker 3: I was trying to get down to, I don't know
- 43:03Speaker 3: if you guys know, is contact rate off the top
- 43:05Speaker 3: of your head, but I don't have any of him.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Let me see, it's eighty four percent. So the contact rates,
- 43:14Speaker 3: So I mean he.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Just doesn't hit hard. Yeah, he swings slow. He swings slow,
- 43:21Speaker 2: and he doesn't he doesn't make solid contact twenty fifth
- 43:24Speaker 2: percent of bat speed ex velocity is forty six percentile.
- 43:28Speaker 2: He just he doesn't make quality contacts. He makes contact,
- 43:32Speaker 2: he just it's not useful.
- 43:33Speaker 3: Interesting, well, twenty six years old. So yeah, I could
- 43:37Speaker 3: see if you have ten teams, you take a flyer
- 43:39Speaker 3: on him in a DC, you know, But if you're
- 43:42Speaker 3: doing a standalone league or it's your home league, I
- 43:45Speaker 3: would stay away from. I'll put it this way. I
- 43:47Speaker 3: don't have him anywhere, so clearly I'm not a believer.
- 43:50Speaker 3: I have eight teams already this year, So there you go.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, well that's a that's a ringing unendorsement. So
- 43:57Speaker 1: my cell here is Lenine Sosa. So just kind of
- 44:00Speaker 1: selling all the kind of fringe infielders that the White
- 44:03Speaker 1: Sox have. And mostly I think this is people see
- 44:06Speaker 1: those twenty two homers from last year and they think, oh, yeah,
- 44:10Speaker 1: with the White Sox, he's got a locked in job.
- 44:13Speaker 1: Go check that roster resource. He is not starting right now.
- 44:16Speaker 1: On top of I think it's gonna be tough for
- 44:18Speaker 1: him to crack back into that starting rotation. This is
- 44:20Speaker 1: a guy who is barely a second division starter. He's
- 44:24Speaker 1: a better bench piece I think, and got squeezed or
- 44:27Speaker 1: like called into action really last year for the White
- 44:30Speaker 1: Sox to be able to play enough to get to
- 44:32Speaker 1: twenty two homers. But another guy with a brutal glove.
- 44:36Speaker 1: He's older than you'd think, he's twenty six, and it
- 44:39Speaker 1: just there's lots of talent coming on the infield in
- 44:42Speaker 1: Chicago as well, as you know, the new regime doesn't
- 44:47Speaker 1: quite have the ties to Lenine Sosa that the previous
- 44:50Speaker 1: one did, so I could see Lenin and Sosa just
- 44:52Speaker 1: kind of getting totally squeezed out of this team overall.
- 44:55Speaker 1: And given where his draft pick is right now, it's
- 44:59Speaker 1: three sixteen overall, so you know, it's still like a
- 45:03Speaker 1: piece where people are counting on him for a bench
- 45:05Speaker 1: or maybe even a CI or an AM. I I
- 45:08Speaker 1: think the bottom is really really low on leaning Sosa,
- 45:12Speaker 1: So that's why I'm selling him.
- 45:15Speaker 2: This is an easy sell. I mean if you just
- 45:16Speaker 2: look at it, like one of the worst played approaches
- 45:19Speaker 2: in the game. His chase rate last year was forty
- 45:22Speaker 2: one percent, Like there is zero pitch recognition there, and
- 45:27Speaker 2: he's he swings almost as much out of the zone
- 45:29Speaker 2: as he does in the zone. Like it's it's just
- 45:31Speaker 2: toss it up there and hope for the best. This
- 45:33Speaker 2: is a guy's slider's best best approach here. So yeah,
- 45:38Speaker 2: easy cell.
- 45:40Speaker 1: He'd be awesome on the Rockies. I'd love him on
- 45:42Speaker 1: the Rockies.
- 45:42Speaker 2: See you love anybody on the Rockies. That's the that's
- 45:45Speaker 2: the You love any cast up and put them on
- 45:47Speaker 2: the Rockies. They're gonna be the next the next al
- 45:50Speaker 2: Pool Holes over there for you.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Okay, let's get into the Cleveland Guardians their next alphabetically.
- 45:56Speaker 1: This is the team that won the division last year
- 45:58Speaker 1: with an eighty eight and seventy record and then lost
- 46:01Speaker 1: in the first round to the Detroit Tigers, who they
- 46:04Speaker 1: edged out for the Division Crown. I don't get Cleveland personally,
- 46:09Speaker 1: like this is such a strange team. It's a smart
- 46:13Speaker 1: front office, but like, if they could just spend a
- 46:16Speaker 1: little bit of money every year, they could easily be
- 46:19Speaker 1: taking this division and building more around Jose Ramirez, because
- 46:22Speaker 1: otherwise I'm looking at this roster. They didn't add squat,
- 46:28Speaker 1: so they brought in Sean Armstrong to hold down a
- 46:32Speaker 1: set up role in the bullpen, But otherwise they're just
- 46:36Speaker 1: running it back on offense, and this was not a
- 46:38Speaker 1: good offense last year. So we might get some more
- 46:41Speaker 1: Chase the Latter mixed in. That would be the quote
- 46:43Speaker 1: unquote acquisition here. But we all know Chase the Latter's
- 46:46Speaker 1: history of injuries, and they're good at pumping out pitchers.
- 46:50Speaker 1: But I do feel like that's kind of the league
- 46:54Speaker 1: is starting to catch up to Cleveland a little bit more,
- 46:56Speaker 1: and it feels like some of the guys that have
- 46:58Speaker 1: been produced recently out of this system. They're good big
- 47:01Speaker 1: league arms in terms of real life baseball, but from fantasy,
- 47:04Speaker 1: I think it's been a little tougher to find the
- 47:06Speaker 1: diamonds and the rough in Cleveland with all those parameters, Marty,
- 47:11Speaker 1: who you buying from the Guardians?
- 47:13Speaker 3: Well, and just looking at their roster overall, like their lineup,
- 47:16Speaker 3: it's oddly enough, there's only one player or two players
- 47:19Speaker 3: that are severely under the you know, one hundred WRC plus,
- 47:22Speaker 3: so they're actually projected pretty well, which is just I
- 47:25Speaker 3: guess they utilize the platoon you know, very well for
- 47:29Speaker 3: a team. But yeah, that's that's pretty crazy. But anyway,
- 47:32Speaker 3: my buye is Joey Cantio, you know, the southpaw thirty
- 47:36Speaker 3: percent strikeout rate at Triple A last year, he comes
- 47:39Speaker 3: into the majors twenty seven percent strikeout rate in the
- 47:41Speaker 3: three sixty nine Sierra and that was across ninety five innings,
- 47:45Speaker 3: so it's not like it was just you know, twenty
- 47:46Speaker 3: or thirty. There was you know, he was on the
- 47:49Speaker 3: on the roster for a while. One oh one stuff
- 47:52Speaker 3: plus ninety seven location plus and a ninety eight pitching plus,
- 47:56Speaker 3: so nothing's nothing really sticks out there. But he also
- 48:02Speaker 3: put in perspective of where he's going. So if you're
- 48:05Speaker 3: looking for one of your last arms, maybe in a
- 48:07Speaker 3: twelve team league, you know Connelly early is around him,
- 48:11Speaker 3: Roki Sazaki, Quinn Priester. From what I saw last year
- 48:17Speaker 3: and just the fact that the league overall has trouble
- 48:20Speaker 3: hitting lefty's, I think that you would be able to
- 48:24Speaker 3: use Cantio in a way where you picked the appropriate
- 48:27Speaker 3: matchups and I think it'll be be able to get
- 48:31Speaker 3: a lot.
- 48:31Speaker 1: Out of them. Yeah. I think it's also very know
- 48:36Speaker 1: your league here too, because I will throw the caveat
- 48:39Speaker 1: that the most innings that he's ever thrown in the season,
- 48:43Speaker 1: it was just about last year, around one hundred and twenty.
- 48:45Speaker 1: So you know, Cantillo's bounced between the rotation and the bullpen,
- 48:49Speaker 1: but has a rotation spot right now. Should get to
- 48:52Speaker 1: double digit k's. Write him while you got him, especially
- 48:55Speaker 1: if like you're in a league with waiver wires and
- 48:57Speaker 1: if you know, things end up being where he's got
- 49:00Speaker 1: a rest or to shift back to the bullpen at all,
- 49:03Speaker 1: you can find a different way. But I think you're
- 49:04Speaker 1: good for a couple of months off the bat, So
- 49:07Speaker 1: I think that's a solid.
- 49:08Speaker 3: Buy, especially when it's cold outside in Cleveland.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, you can't beat that. We're gonna get
- 49:13Speaker 1: into that with your Tigers for sure. It's one of
- 49:15Speaker 1: my favorite spots to attack brew. Who are you gonna
- 49:18Speaker 1: buy from the Guardians?
- 49:20Speaker 2: I'll yea. I really struggled buying from the Guardians. Actually,
- 49:23Speaker 2: I struggled with his division in general. Maybe there's a
- 49:25Speaker 2: few teams it was a little bit easier, But I
- 49:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna buy Kyle Menzardo here, and I'm gonna say
- 49:32Speaker 2: it's there's not a whole lot of deep analysis in
- 49:34Speaker 2: this one. It's like the guy's got a pretty pretty
- 49:37Speaker 2: linkedy swing. He does tend to hit the ball pretty hard,
- 49:41Speaker 2: not all that frequent, and that ballpark seems made for him.
- 49:46Speaker 2: Beyond that, that's about the analysis I got of this.
- 49:49Speaker 2: Like I'm looking for some growth. I think, you know,
- 49:51Speaker 2: he's still you know, just twenty five, so I think
- 49:54Speaker 2: he has the potential to keep like taking another gear. Really,
- 49:58Speaker 2: last year was really his first just full full season
- 50:00Speaker 2: in the BIGS, and he looked relatively comfortable, and so
- 50:05Speaker 2: the twenty seven homers it doesn't feel too far off
- 50:07Speaker 2: for me. I think it's he's probably twenty five homer bat.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Maybe he gets lucks into to thirty, he's still probably
- 50:14Speaker 2: gonna hit two thirty to thirty five and he's but
- 50:17Speaker 2: he's gonna be in the middle of that lineup. So
- 50:19Speaker 2: I'm I look at more of that volume play and
- 50:22Speaker 2: a good probably corner infield option. I'm not hoping that
- 50:26Speaker 2: he's my starting first baseman by any means, but like
- 50:30Speaker 2: I said, it just it's kind of the eye tests
- 50:31Speaker 2: with Menzarto. It feels like a good swing. I can
- 50:34Speaker 2: see it continuing. The stat cast doesn't look great, some
- 50:37Speaker 2: of the other rates don't look fantastic or anything like that.
- 50:40Speaker 2: I think it's just the volume play in the lineup position.
- 50:43Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean we've talked about it repeatedly throughout the
- 50:47Speaker 1: previous season that that back end of first base is brutal.
- 50:50Speaker 1: But I think this is one of the gems you
- 50:52Speaker 1: can find. Just looks like he's got a full time
- 50:54Speaker 1: gig and you can see some upside I think with Manzardo,
- 50:57Speaker 1: So I like it. What about you?
- 50:59Speaker 2: That was my very weak bye by the way, very
- 51:01Speaker 2: weak by. You couldn't tell.
- 51:02Speaker 1: I was gonna say. I mean, it is going to be.
- 51:04Speaker 1: We'll get into this a little bit with but like
- 51:07Speaker 1: it's hard for me to find a sell as well.
- 51:09Speaker 1: It's a little bit like when we were talking the
- 51:10Speaker 1: Cardinals last week. There's two players going in the top
- 51:14Speaker 1: one fifty on ADP and it's Jose Ramirez and Kate Smith,
- 51:17Speaker 1: and there's not a lot of Cleveland love in the
- 51:19Speaker 1: draft data. But Marty, what do you think about Kyle Mazarto.
- 51:24Speaker 3: I had Manzarto a lot last year, so I got
- 51:27Speaker 3: to take advantage of those home runs. I am worried
- 51:30Speaker 3: and this happened a lot. They do platoon him, so
- 51:33Speaker 3: against lefties he slashed one eighty six, two fifty three
- 51:36Speaker 3: four nineteen he had five homers. So it's in what
- 51:40Speaker 3: ninety five played appearances, which is pretty good. But yeah,
- 51:44Speaker 3: unless he unless he hits a home run, you know,
- 51:46Speaker 3: he's not going to be able to get a hit
- 51:47Speaker 3: offf a lefty. So unless he proves improves in that,
- 51:50Speaker 3: I think he's gonna be sticking around four or five
- 51:53Speaker 3: hundred played appearances. But you can't argue with the power,
- 51:57Speaker 3: especially at that point. I mean eleven point eight barrel percentage,
- 52:00Speaker 3: four forty three x slug he's gonna be you know,
- 52:03Speaker 3: they gonna be playing most days in four to fifth
- 52:06Speaker 3: in that lineup. It's good for ADP.
- 52:08Speaker 2: He makes me think of your of your Detroit Tiger's
- 52:10Speaker 2: carry Carpenter right, he is a similar type of thing.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Was like, guy hits guys there middle lineup. He has
- 52:17Speaker 2: split issues galore, but otherwise it's fun to watch. So yeah,
- 52:22Speaker 2: like I said, it's it's a soft soft buy for me.
- 52:24Speaker 3: So Cooley working Manzaro. I was gonna say, if you
- 52:27Speaker 3: can coustuh adjust Manzarto's contact rate closer to carries, then
- 52:32Speaker 3: he'd be really good.
- 52:33Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, Yeah, Yeah, I mean I like Manzardo. So
- 52:36Speaker 1: I think you guys have hit all the major points
- 52:38Speaker 1: that it's a it's a solid buye for me. That
- 52:41Speaker 1: I haven't gotten him anywhere, but I've considered him and
- 52:46Speaker 1: just kind of gone a different route in that part
- 52:47Speaker 1: of the draft. Usually all right for my buy, I'm
- 52:51Speaker 1: going right back to that, am I. Well, I'm going
- 52:53Speaker 1: Brian Rochio. So if just in case, you've got somebody
- 52:56Speaker 1: else in your league who is a big Cards and
- 52:58Speaker 1: Categories fan and just her my glowing praise of Chase
- 53:01Speaker 1: Mydrath and snaked you you can wait it out because
- 53:05Speaker 1: Rokio is going even later. It's average pick around four
- 53:08Speaker 1: to ten, also second base, shortstop eligible. But this is
- 53:11Speaker 1: the type of profile where I've talked about over the years,
- 53:14Speaker 1: Like guys that have great gloves and play every day
- 53:18Speaker 1: in the major leagues and finish off their development as
- 53:21Speaker 1: hit hitters just are always intriguing options, and I think
- 53:25Speaker 1: Rochio has joined that group. You can kind of see
- 53:28Speaker 1: it in his breakdown where the first half was historically brutal,
- 53:33Speaker 1: the only reason he was playing was for his glove.
- 53:35Speaker 1: A forty nine WRC plus in the first half, but
- 53:38Speaker 1: it turned around in the second half as a ninety
- 53:39Speaker 1: four WRC plus, a much more palatable two fifty seven,
- 53:43Speaker 1: three thirteen, three seventy six line that'll actually play it,
- 53:47Speaker 1: am I, And this is guy who, honestly, he could
- 53:50Speaker 1: do what my draft can do, but maybe a little
- 53:53Speaker 1: less batting average. But you've got upside as well, because
- 53:56Speaker 1: you've seen that level of growth in the second half.
- 54:00Speaker 1: It did seem like when I was watching games down
- 54:02Speaker 1: the stretch in the second half, he was a lot
- 54:05Speaker 1: of like the charge and that offense in Cleveland, and
- 54:08Speaker 1: it wasn't necessarily like hugely Babbitt Field. It's another guy
- 54:11Speaker 1: who Yes, don't check out that stat cast page and
- 54:14Speaker 1: unless you want to be left icy cold, but it's
- 54:17Speaker 1: a volume play. Nobody's coming for short stop. I think
- 54:20Speaker 1: in Cleveland for him nice little upside in terms of
- 54:23Speaker 1: stolen bases. And I think he's a great option, especially
- 54:27Speaker 1: in super deep leagues ale only DC options that you
- 54:32Speaker 1: can feel comfortable putting him on your roster and having
- 54:35Speaker 1: a nice little piece to move around your middle infield spots.
- 54:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm just gonna call it now. I'm nominating first
- 54:41Speaker 2: round or draft on Sunday. So you because I want
- 54:44Speaker 2: to see you put your money where your mouth is.
- 54:46Speaker 2: I like you're going deep on this one. You've been
- 54:49Speaker 2: doing too much your waiver wires. I'll let you keep
- 54:52Speaker 2: keep Roko here, would you you? You lost me at
- 54:56Speaker 2: He had a great second half of the nine ninety
- 54:58Speaker 2: four of URC plus. So I I I understand the
- 55:04Speaker 2: volume play. I just I think I can get that
- 55:06Speaker 2: volume play play elsewhere. So I'm going to disagree with
- 55:10Speaker 2: you just a little bit in this one. I think
- 55:11Speaker 2: you don't drank a little too much your own Coolidge.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Okay, I think it's fair, yes, and it is. It
- 55:17Speaker 1: is a growth opportunity.
- 55:20Speaker 3: I've okay, I think the best way that it makes
- 55:24Speaker 3: sense for him is if he's your third second basement
- 55:27Speaker 3: in a DC. I think that's fine.
- 55:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I think yeah, but that'll that'll play, I think, so,
- 55:34Speaker 1: uh cool, let's get into those cells, Marty, who you
- 55:37Speaker 1: selling from the Guardians?
- 55:39Speaker 3: So this is only because where he is Kate Smith, Okay,
- 55:44Speaker 3: basis you and I we weren't we in a draft
- 55:46Speaker 3: in f pass.
- 55:48Speaker 1: That is right? We actually are in a d C
- 55:50Speaker 1: from fes.
- 55:51Speaker 3: Okay, Yeah, So I took Mason Miller in the second round,
- 55:53Speaker 3: which at that at that time it wasn't like one
- 55:56Speaker 3: hundred percent for sure that he was going to be
- 55:58Speaker 3: the closer, but he was going to be the closer.
- 56:00Speaker 3: But anyway, yeah, I'd rather get Miller Diez Munos, you know,
- 56:05Speaker 3: uh Droan, you know, like I just rather just if
- 56:08Speaker 3: I'm going if I'm going to pay the premium, I'm
- 56:10Speaker 3: going to get who I think or you know, I
- 56:12Speaker 3: think there's a top four and so I'll just go
- 56:15Speaker 3: with there. And plus he's never been a closer for
- 56:17Speaker 3: a full season, and I don't trust the Guardians that
- 56:20Speaker 3: they don't trade him. Who knows, you never know what
- 56:23Speaker 3: they're going to do.
- 56:24Speaker 1: I think that's all very fair. Yeah, I think that's
- 56:27Speaker 1: it is a very steep price for him for a
- 56:29Speaker 1: guy who.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Is really good though. I mean, he was great last year.
- 56:33Speaker 3: But it's just I'd rather go with and not the
- 56:35Speaker 3: mentioning the teams are better too, you know, like the
- 56:38Speaker 3: Guardians are probably gonna go five hundred that you're slightly
- 56:41Speaker 3: above it.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's very fair that. I mean Shawn Armstrong.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I did joke about him being like the only off
- 56:48Speaker 1: season acquisition, but he closed for Texas last year, and
- 56:52Speaker 1: you know, he's been good the last max years. Actually, yeah,
- 56:55Speaker 1: they'll mix and match it in Cleveland. So I think
- 56:57Speaker 1: this is a it's just so rich, it's rich price
- 57:01Speaker 1: in terms of going in the middle of the second
- 57:05Speaker 1: or third round. That is a lot brew who you
- 57:09Speaker 1: sung from the Guardians.
- 57:10Speaker 2: Oh, I'm gonna sell a guy that I've actually bought before,
- 57:13Speaker 2: and I'm gonna sell Tanner Biby.
- 57:14Speaker 1: I was here too.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I like it, but it's like the most average,
- 57:19Speaker 2: boring profile and he doesn't strike out enough guys. He
- 57:25Speaker 2: a lot of the peripher Like he doesn't have like
- 57:27Speaker 2: a really good pitch, he just has a pitch mix,
- 57:31Speaker 2: like a decent pitch mix where he's using a lot
- 57:33Speaker 2: of different Uh, he's throwing the kitchen sink up there
- 57:35Speaker 2: to a degree velocity is not you know, it's every year,
- 57:39Speaker 2: it's kind of come down. It's just a lot of
- 57:41Speaker 2: little red flags. And when you look at what else
- 57:44Speaker 2: you can have with that draft price we're talking I
- 57:45Speaker 2: think one seventy five ADP, like a few spots above.
- 57:49Speaker 2: Give me Tasio Imai, give me like McKenzie gore a
- 57:52Speaker 2: few rounds later. Like there's other guys that I like
- 57:56Speaker 2: have upside where I just don't feel like Bibby doesn't
- 57:58Speaker 2: have upside. He is downside might not be there either,
- 58:01Speaker 2: like he is exactly like I don't look at the
- 58:03Speaker 2: projection systems on there, but I feel like they're all
- 58:05Speaker 2: gonna be exactly the same, because you know, this is
- 58:07Speaker 2: a guy that's gonna strike out eight eight for nine,
- 58:09Speaker 2: he's gonna walk two and a half for nine, and
- 58:12Speaker 2: he's gonna have a eur a round four and that's okay,
- 58:16Speaker 2: maybe a get another DC pick. As far as the
- 58:19Speaker 2: guy that's gonna pitch all season, but I think there's
- 58:22Speaker 2: a lot better options out there, because I feel like
- 58:25Speaker 2: at this point in the draft, you're looking for upside
- 58:27Speaker 2: and I don't think Biby has it.
- 58:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that that's a lot of the reasons
- 58:32Speaker 1: why I'm in the boat. I'm selling him too, because
- 58:36Speaker 1: there's also just a factor when you're watching Tanner Biby,
- 58:39Speaker 1: you can tell that hitters are not terribly afraid of
- 58:42Speaker 1: him when they're in the box, that there's a little
- 58:45Speaker 1: bit of that like intimidation factor that he's missing. I
- 58:47Speaker 1: think it's just because he is so average and mid
- 58:51Speaker 1: across the board. He's a six foot two, so that
- 58:54Speaker 1: doesn't really stand out the actual kind of pitching motion,
- 58:58Speaker 1: and the arm slot never usually like stand out. I'm
- 59:01Speaker 1: gonna look up the armslot because I've never kind of
- 59:03Speaker 1: like clock Dick, but I think it's probably gonna be. Yeah,
- 59:07Speaker 1: it's just like kind of right in the normal armslot
- 59:11Speaker 1: angle for people, and so there's no there's not a
- 59:13Speaker 1: lot of deception in there. It is a the stuff
- 59:16Speaker 1: plus metrics look great, and I think people think that
- 59:19Speaker 1: he can bounce back, but the fit match the a
- 59:22Speaker 1: er a last year and I think what we saw
- 59:24Speaker 1: out of tanner Byby last year is who he is.
- 59:27Speaker 1: He's a four low fours pitcher. He is a one
- 59:32Speaker 1: to two whip guy, and I don't see much upside
- 59:35Speaker 1: because he just doesn't have the elite velocity or kind
- 59:39Speaker 1: of really elite fastball shape to be able to push
- 59:42Speaker 1: him to that next level. For me, it does sound harsh,
- 59:46Speaker 1: but I will say it was hard finding a cell
- 59:48Speaker 1: on the Cleveland Guardians as well, So it's like, if
- 59:51Speaker 1: I had to pick one, Bibey's not my guy.
- 59:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I was the same way. I feel like these
- 59:56Speaker 2: first few teams, like I was like lukewarm on all
- 59:59Speaker 2: of my pick so like I don't there's no huge buys,
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: no huge cells. I'll say the rest of the division,
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: I feel, I feel pretty good. I'm like, yeah, there's
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: a buys, there's cells, the White Sox and Guardians and
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: maybe to the point of not the best options from
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: an ADP perspective, we don't have a whole lot at
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: high ADP. There's just as much to men's words.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: On Okay, Marty, it's time for the main show. It's
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: time for your Detroit Tigers. Here, who did finish second
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: but then came back and won that divisional series or
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: the wild card series against Cleveland. Been a big off
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: season for the Tigers. I think the Tigers that had
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: one of the best off seasons probably in the majors
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: in terms of what they needed to fill and what
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: they've brought in. So they did bring back Labor Torres
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: to hold down second base maybe for now. They've got
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: a lot of talent coming through this minor league system,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: and they've also gone out and signed from Bert Valdez.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: They brought back Justin Verlander, they signed ken Lee Janssen,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: they brought back Kay Finnigan, And like I said, this
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: is minor league system is loaded. Pretty good chance that
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: we see Kevin McGonagall really early this season. Good chance
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: Max Clark makes it up to the big leagues this year.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: You've also got Tyra and Lronzo kicking around with Jose Personio.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: So there's lots of bats, lots of depth arms too.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: So like I like that because we talked about like
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: Detroit plays cold at the beginning of the end of
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the season, huge ballpark, you can find those matchups in
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: this kind of very poor offensive environment al central. The
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: Tiger's are my favorite for these for the division this year, Marty,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: who you buying from your.
- 1:01:37Speaker 3: Tigers labor Torres second base?
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: Fine two, Yeah, he.
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Was in my most recent article that's out now for
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: Rota Baller. I mean, so in this actually if Torres
- 1:01:51Speaker 3: his season was basically a mirror of what the Detroit
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: Tigers season was. Torres the first you know, three four months,
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: he was incredible, you know, he made all start team,
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: and then at some point he got injured. He had
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: sports turnia surgery and had sports turning of injury at
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: some point in the second half, and he just completely
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: just spun out and he was terrible the rest of
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: the season, including into the playoffs. So overall, though he
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: still had a three sixty three ex wOBA, that's in
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: the eighty ninth percentile. His profile is excellent. You know,
- 1:02:23Speaker 3: he really strikes out. He walks at one of the
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: highest rates in all of the majors, you know, and
- 1:02:29Speaker 3: he produced those numbers through a sports turn of injury.
- 1:02:32Speaker 3: So you know, coming into for next season, I mean
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: I project him for around eighteen home runs, eighty runs scored,
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: about seventy RBI six to one bases I won bat
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: probably like around two fifty seven the two sixty, so
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: a good blend of average counting stats. He has a
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: little bit of speed, you know, he's given has your
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: middle endfielder him giving you five bags, you know, maybe
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: up to ten. That's that's that's good enough. But when
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: you compare his first half to his second half, you know,
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: I think he's somewhere in between there, which is a
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: guy that's really really good for his at his ADP
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: and if you look at projections, especially ATC ATC has
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: has the eighth second basement overall, so it's you're getting
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: the steel all the way that you know down there,
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: whereas ADP is.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Yeah, i mean, I'm right there with you. It's a
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: weird market, I think on labor tors because I'm just
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: looking at our player Raider projections for twenty twenty six,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: because I mean he's been very almost like Marcel projectional
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: bold because it's pretty steady in terms of like hoving
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: around to two sixty average mid to upper teams. Homer's
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: seventy five ish RBI and runs a piece you punch
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: that in on our player rader on RAS ball that's
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: in the top one sixty. Current ADP is two thirty
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: five on Labor Torres on top of first base being
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: real bad at the back end, second base is god
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: awful this year And if you want somebody can you
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: can put in and you know Glaber is going to
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: play as long as he's healthy and just produce, set
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: it and forget at second base. With Glaber Torres that
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: like I was surprised.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: It was like that.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Easy of a bright, shining buy. And when I was
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: looking through the ADP brow what do you think about Torres?
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: I know he's kind of boring, but it's like at
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: this price and for a second baseman, like come on,
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: come on.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Yeah. I will say I have a personal thing against
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Glabor Torres, just because I think I for so long
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: he was so overpriced as the Yankee that like I
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: sold him for like five straight years. And now the
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: fact that the price is like rectified and like it's
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: actually the right value, I feel like I've not been
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: able to let go. So it's more of a personal
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: issue for me than actual analysis here. But I think
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: that you're right like where he's going. The other guys
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: in that range, like there's just massive question marks, and
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: I think you know what you get with Torres and
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: I think that's what the where the value is. You
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: know what you're paying for and you're getting reliability. He's
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: not He's not gonna win your league, but he's certainly
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: not going to lose your league for you. And I
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: think that there's a lot of value at that point
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: in the draft with that kind of m I type
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: of type of type of play. So I don't have
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: a problem with it. I probably won't own him at
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: all because I still somehow think he's overvalued because of
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: the Yankee days. Again blind spot on my part, So.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I think that's fair. Nearby from the Tiger's sign.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna go with the nineteenth catcher off the board.
- 1:05:26Speaker 2: Dylan Dingler. I am a big fan of what he
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: could do last year in the second half one twenty
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: one WRC plus really struck out only twenty three percent
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: of the time. He had a pretty strong year at
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: the plate thirteen home ers, two seventy eight average. He's
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: he's still gonna probably be towards the bottom of that lineup,
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: but doesn't really have split issues. The other thing is
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: he's a really, really good catcher, and so he's going
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: to be on the field for the most part and uh,
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: from a catcher's perspective, his ninety seven percent of title
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: expected batting average. Now that's something you don't get at
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: that position. And don't get me wrong, that position has
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: revolutionized the last year, year and a half, and so
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: there's a lot more to be had. But I'm looking
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: at like nineteen catcher. I'm thrilled with this guy as
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: my as my number two in the two catcher league.
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: I'd be willing to take him as my number one
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: on the latter half of that and kind of roll
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: with it. So I really think there's a lot of
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: upside here. I think this is a better lineup than
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: people are thinking go into the year. I think he's
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: gonna make his way up the lineup as the year progresses,
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: and he's gonna actually end up probably hitting I'll say,
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: fifteen twenty homers e the RBI, hitting two eighty. I'll
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: take it all day at the catcher position.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: All right. I hate to break it to you. I
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: mean it's a very very soft cell, but he was
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: myself because honestly.
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: I don't like you.
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: I had a lot too.
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: Oh no, okay, so yeah, I'll start off Marty, and
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: then you can get in I mean, like I said,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: it's a very soft cell, Like I'm not very gung
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: ho on this, but there's just enough thing in the
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: profile where I'm like, I think that second half was
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: the peak, and we saw a good hot streak out Dingler,
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: and I do worry, like the walk rate is low,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: it's below five percent for last year. You've also the
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: big factor here, I think, is just who's coming behind him.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Tyrone Lorenzo is on the forty man Jose Brassino. I
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: don't know if he's got the catching chops to stick
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: and overtake Dingler, but I do think that Lorenzo could,
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: And so you're looking at there's just a lot of
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: catching talent behind him. You also kind of look at
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: what happened with like the Jake Rogers career arc. It's
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: almost like you'll forget that Dingler is twenty seven already
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: because he you know, really came on the on the
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: scene last year, but it took him a while to
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: get there. Jake Rogers went through like the same sort
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of thing. It was a little more strikeout, a little
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: more power forward in his profile, but you know, got
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: it got nicked up. Dingler took over and never lost
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: the job that you could see something maybe similar happening
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: to Dingler, where you know, gets nicked up, gets one
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: of those concussions. As a catcher, Loronzo comes up from
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: that forty man spot and never looks back. So I
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: like a lot of what you said, but I think
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: there's just a little bit too much risk there where,
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: especially if you're in a deeper league and then you're
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: trying to nail that catcher two pick where you need
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: something where there aren't maybe as many question marks. I'd
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: rather go a different direction because if you don't nail
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: the catcher too, it falls off a cliff there after,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: like the top like twenty five ish, and so good
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: luck trying to find somebody else from your wife for
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: wire or back into the draft. Marty, why are you
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: selling Dalan Dingler?
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: I actually really liked them coming into the season. I
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: was all about him being my C two. I think
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: you know, the expected batting averages, like he said, through
- 1:08:48Speaker 3: the roof, you rarely see that from the catcher position.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: He's gonna play every day. He's young, he's an excellent catcher.
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: Watching him is actually a lot of fun. But he
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: had elbow surgery and they're easing him into spring training.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: So right now he's not one hundred percent. So he
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow. Now it was
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: just addressing like irritation and discomfort, so it wasn't you know.
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: It's more of a manageable situation than it is like
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: a huge, major operation. But I just don't like my
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: if my catchers. I don't want to catcher who's hurt
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: coming into the season because it's so hard already he's
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: never played a full season and that and that's the
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: only reason. If he was fully healthy, I would be
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: I would be all about him being my c two.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: But I just I'm of him just because of the injury.
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: Moving forward, I'm not if he stays at the catcher
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: that he is, they're gonna they're gonna let he's gonna
- 1:09:41Speaker 3: play as much as possible. I'm not worried about him
- 1:09:43Speaker 3: being overtaken. Now d H may be overtaken and then
- 1:09:46Speaker 3: you know they kind of have to worry about that.
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: But uh yeah, I think he's really really good. It's
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: just I'm easing back until I hear he's one hundred percent.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: I just can't do it.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: I think that's fair.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: Hey, we all know this podcast. I'm the guy drafts
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: the injured guys. So there's there's Marty that might not
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: know that much, but but like this is very much
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: on brand for me usually injured pictures, to be clear.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: But I'll make an exception here and there for a catcher.
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw you just like star star star like eyes.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Lighting up baby discount code right here? Where's my promo
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: code for a catcher?
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: Okay, who you saw on from the Tigers? Then?
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: Brew, Well, I'm gonna sell a guy that I know
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: that I'm pretty sure you like, and that's gonna be
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: Kenley Jansen. I'm gonna say, Kinley, he's scared of the
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: Jesus out of me as a as a closer. You know.
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: I I looked at the signing there as a token signing.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: I was actually little surprised that they did make that signing.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: I like Kyle finneg a lot more than Kenley Jansen
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: and that closure role last year. I mean, literally every
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: indicator you could have for luck went Kenley's way, and
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: then the skills dropped off like there. It just it
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: didn't work. And so that's where I'm I'm like I said,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: I'm out on Janssen. Like I can cherry pick stats,
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: but one ninety five baybip eight five percent left on base,
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: lowest strikeout rate of his career, Like, those things just
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: don't work, and the stuff took a step back, and
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: so I'm I'm concerned. I can see that falling now.
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: At the same time, they want to get him to
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: five hundred saves, Like I feel like that's why why
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: they signed him, is just to get that celebration at
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: some point. So I feel like there's more job security.
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: But I just every time I look at it and
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: I'm like, it just feels like the wheels are gonna
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: fall off. I don't know when, but it feels like
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: when they do, it's gonna be spectacular to watch. So
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: not in sorry Marty, not in a good way.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I think I think the same way I
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: did his. I did Jansen's his preview for roadaball Er.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: So when you if you go to roadaballer dot com
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: and you look it up, I'll have I have some
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: some words for him. I will vest in califin again
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: or breathing down his neck. The aj Hens already said
- 1:11:58Speaker 3: he gets the first nod.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: It's a.
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: I knew there was no way he wasn't gonna at
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: least start off the season as the closer. So it's
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: his job until it isn't. He's twenty six saves away
- 1:12:07Speaker 3: from five hundred all the if you look, I mean,
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: if you look at his stats last year, two fifty
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: ninety arrays zero point nine to five whip. But then
- 1:12:15Speaker 3: you go under the hood and you know, the strikeout
- 1:12:17Speaker 3: rate continues to go down. He had an eighty five
- 1:12:19Speaker 3: percent left on base percentage one ninety five bab P,
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: so he got super lucky. And yeah, it's it would
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: be It's classic Tigers to get a relief pitcher at
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: the back end of their career to watch them, you know,
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: kind of end their their career with us. But I'm
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: hoping it's not. If it is, I think will Ves
- 1:12:39Speaker 3: is the next guy up.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Okay, I like that. Yeah, I think this is a
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: fair self that like, I think this is also league
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: dependent because in a snake draft situation, this is certainly
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: too rich of a price for Kenley Jansen, and I
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: think a lot of these other parameters we've talked about,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: You've got to find a different route for Jansen or
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: I need a much bigger discount, but in something like
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: an auction league, I'm in on Jansen like there, because
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: you can be able to mix and match and pay
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: the price that you want and be able to like
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: find the path to build your team. And so I
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: don't mind him as a closer too, because of like
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: I think he like you said, Bru, They're gonna let
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: him get to twenty five saves and then figure it out.
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: So like, I think you can lock in twenty five saves,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: which is a lot more than you can say about
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: lots of other closer twos across the board right now. Okay,
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: let's get to the Kansas City Royals here. So this
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: team is coming off of a third place division finish
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: at eighty two and eighty and it has been a
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: let's say a little bit of an interesting offseason as
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: they maybe the biggest change they're doing in Kansas City
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: is pulling in the park walls, so both the left
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: field down the line and the right field down the
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: line have been pulled in slightly to make it. It
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: was already a hitter's ballpark in Kansas City, which people
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: might not recognize, but it was more of like a
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: double bulls Triples Singles Park because it's so huge, this
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: should help out and give us a couple more homers.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I think most people, when you know you're looking at
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: what the analysis was across the industry, was that you'd
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: maybe add a homer or to per a player. But
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: I mean that's certainly going to help you for your
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: vinning pass Quintinos and certainly Jack Cagliong could use it
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: after the rough season that he had in his rookie year.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: In terms of additions here in Kansas City, they've brought
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: in Isaac Collins and Lane Thomas. They have also traded
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: for Matt Strom to get into the back end of
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: the bullpen botherwise pretty much running it back up and down.
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: So it is a team that is young and up
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: and coming. Outside of sal Perez, everybody else in the
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: lineup is under thirty, and it's a solid rotation running
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: it back with Cole Reagan's at the top and lots
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I think of intrigue in Kansas City. I'm just gonna
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: be a little bit of a dark horse, I think
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: in the vision overall, as they've kind of not been
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: in it as much. But I think the the ready
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: to take the next step personally, Marty, who are gonna
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: buy from the Kings City Royals.
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: I find myself getting Salvador Prez Okay, the old veteran catcher,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: more and more so than anybody. And it's specifically just
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: where he's going because I feel like he does have
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: top five catcher upside still even at his age, and
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: he's going outside it. I use either the seventh or
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: the eighth catcher off the board. So if I can
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: wait until like the sixth round in a fifteen team
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: league and get my c one, I know he's going
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: to play as much as possible. And we've seen over
- 1:15:34Speaker 3: the years that Kansas City is playing him more at
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: first base and they're dhing him more so, and then
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: as Jensen comes up, you know he may even see
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: those other positions more and more. So I think they're
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: gonna give him as much. They're gonna be as easy
- 1:15:49Speaker 3: as they can on him to let him still play
- 1:15:51Speaker 3: every day. I mean, last year he had a five
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: thirty x lug. You know, he's striking out less than
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: twenty percent of the time. He's gonna accumulate a bunch
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: of counting stats hitting fourth or fifth in that lineup.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: I think he's still good for a thirty home run season,
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: and yeah, that's it's that's the guy. I have the
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: most stuff. I catch it right now.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I like it.
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: In our league that we are at, they are falling.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: He's my c one.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Oh yeah, okay, nice. Yeah, the power is legit. I
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: think it's the age. Might scare you off when you
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: see it on the page, but I mean twenty five
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: thirty homers in the bank.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: I looked at him like I wanted to sell, just
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: like it just felt like the wheels are gonna fall off.
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: And I dig in and I'm like, he's gonna play,
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: He's gonna his homers. He's like, he's gonna be the
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: same guys. There's nothing wrong with it. And I think
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: as the catcher position is kind of elevated with some
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: of these young guys coming in, like he's this afterthoughts
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: like it, but he's the same guy. So it's it's, yeah,
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: I have no.
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: Problem with this one. Brow who you buying?
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: All right? So I'm gonna go on brand. We know
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: I'm going to and you know exactly this, and because
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: you you've played this game before, I'm gonna buy Chris.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: Bubach because I was gonna say Reagan's I thought you'd
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: go to the well.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: I will take him too, Don't get me wrong. If
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: I could have a one two, I'll take the two
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: of them. But if you look at boobache from a
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: eighty pe per sective, like it's it's laughable to eighteen
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: for a guy last year that had a two fifty
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: five e RA a strike out a guy per nine
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: and just he threw the kitchen sink at folks and
- 1:17:28Speaker 2: he was hurt. Actually, he admitted that a lot of
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: the some throughout the season he was struggling with his
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: rotator cuff and that he impacted his performance. His performance
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: was pretty gosh turned good. And so yeah, I get it,
- 1:17:42Speaker 2: he's coming off with an injury, but it's fully baked
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: into the price. It's fully baked in at this point
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: in time. And if you just look at the way
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: he throws and the and the underlying metrics, like this
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: is a guy that you know, I get the walks
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: jumped up a little bit last year, but the two
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: years prior, and I get those were the bullpen, but
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: the walk rate was you know, like one and a
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: half a walk per nine, Like it's just uncanny, and
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: so I think there's a ton of love this profile.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Even if you're just banking on like half a season.
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: He's gonna give you great ra ratios, he's gonna give
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: you counting stats. I think the team's gonna better than
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: people think, and so he's gonna get some additional wins.
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: So I'm all on Buobach. I will take Reagans as
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: well if you if you give them to me, I
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: just think the price for Reagans, I think that one's
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: a little bit more reasonable, uh, considering the terrible luck
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: that he had last year. So I will take both
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: of those guys.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I like Bobach. I think he's actually almost
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: like my new Nathan Andovaldi going forward, where it's like
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: I'll take him at that price and a little bit
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: extra to bank, especially if you're in a waiver wire league,
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: like absolutely in the DC, maybe like it's.
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: Uh yeah, DC, it's a it's a tougher, tougher sled
- 1:18:52Speaker 2: because like the injury risks is there, like and I
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: he's he's you know, he's pitched a full season and
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: I say one time, and I'm like I'm stretching here.
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: Full season was like twenty seven games started, but it's
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: like only one hundred and thirty eight he's pitched, like, so,
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: I you know, he's not the guy for that, but
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: he's the guy for your daily, your weekly leagues, those
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: kind of things.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: Yeah. It's also when I watch him pitch compared to
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: what his stuff plus is, it's one of those where
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I'm just like, I don't know, like it looks way
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: nastier than what it actually shows on the stuff plus page. Okay,
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: well I've got a different buy here. This might be
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: one of my favorite guys coming into twenty twenty six.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: I actually took him in our f Pass draft. Marty
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Tallman is Carter Jensen. I love this profile. You want
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: to see, like who could be the next Ben Rice?
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: This is it right here. The profile is absurdly read
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: on the Savant page. And sure he didn't qualify within
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five season, but he was doing it
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: at Triple A all year too. Whatever the Royals did
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: to tweak this swing of his last year it and
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: I think he's about to just go on an absolute tear.
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: He's my Rookie of the Year favorite in the Ale
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six, and I think all the projections
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: are severely off on him that, Like you can just
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: see it in the stats from Triple A. They were otherworldly.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: He's got a great eye at the plate as well,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: so it's like it's Schwarbury in. You know, when you're
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: starting to get like he is gonna whiff a lot
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: because he's swinging real hard. But when you're actually got
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: the good eye and know what to attack, look out,
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: I think you're looking at honestly, maybe right around like
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: sal Prez numbers from Carter Jensen. I think he's gonna
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: be able to push thirty homers and play every day
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: because they've got no reason not to when he's gonna
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: swing a bat like he did last year. I think
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: that all the projections are used to what he used
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: to be back in twenty twenty four, and they're not
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: given enough weight to those swing changes and approach changes
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: that he made in twenty twenty five. And I think
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: that the ceiling is really really high for Carter Jensen
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: going into twenty twenty six. One of my favorite picks,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: he's gonna be in your top one hundred. I guarantee
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: you it's.
- 1:21:13Speaker 2: It's a twenty game sample on that savant page. But
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: I mean, like it's it's pretty, it's pretty nice. It's
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: it's pretty nice. So I do I think you're Ben Rice.
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: Comparison is a very fair one. I I'm not gonna
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: push him that strong here, but like, I love a
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: guy with play discipline coming of the minors. I love
- 1:21:29Speaker 2: a guy that's gonna walk, you know, ten to fifteen
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: percent of the time, control the strikeout rates, and just
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: has like that the floor really really improves. And that's
- 1:21:40Speaker 2: the kind of guy that tends to get better over time.
- 1:21:43Speaker 2: And he's still really young, so I think that there's
- 1:21:46Speaker 2: there's a lot of upsight here. So I'm not put
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: him in the top one hundred yet, but yeah, there's
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: a watch list that we talked about throughout the season.
- 1:21:53Speaker 2: I'm sure he'll be there.
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: Got it, Marty, what are you gonna do for your
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: cell in Kansas City?
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: I want to say about Jensen's they Ria said, Kyle Schwarber. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know how much they're going to
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: play him at first, so that's kind of where he's
- 1:22:11Speaker 3: I see him losing plate appearances, you know, maybe for
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: the first six weeks, but he had a this is
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: in the majors. Over those sixty nine plate appearances, he
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: had a twenty point eight barrel percentage, which would have
- 1:22:23Speaker 3: tied Kyle Schwarber for fourth overall. So to say he's
- 1:22:27Speaker 3: Schwarberian is is pretty on, especially when he's walking thirteen
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: percent of the time. But yeah, I'm in on him.
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: Just maybe maybe maybe I'll try to trade for him,
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: you know, a little closer. But it mind's Cole Reagan's.
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: And it's not because Cole Reagan's isn't great. He is great.
- 1:22:44Speaker 3: It's just you know, two Tommy John surgeries, left growing
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: strain last year, left rotator cuff strain. He came back,
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: he was lights out. But just for me, at that point,
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: he's your sp one. I'd rather wait for Max Freed
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: or Freddy Peralta or Joe Ryan. I just feel like it's, say, now,
- 1:23:01Speaker 3: if you're playing in one, you're like in a league
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: with like an overall, that's the guy you want to
- 1:23:06Speaker 3: go for for sure, because the upside is crazy. I
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: mean when he came back, I got him in a
- 1:23:10Speaker 3: tea g FI those last you know, a couple starts,
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: and it was just I mean, he was he was incredible.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: So if you're able to take the take the plunge
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: and like a shallow league. I think it's fine, but
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: for the most part, I'd rather wait for something a
- 1:23:22Speaker 3: little more stable.
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And it's very built specific, it's risk tolerance specific.
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: So I think it is it's a good call out
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: because it's like you need to know what you're doing.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: If you're taking Cole Reagans, he's you can't take Cole
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: Reagans and then just like pencil in the stats and
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: not look at the name that's giving you those stats.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: It is very much you've got to play the rest
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: of your draft if you're gonna pay that price for him.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: So I think it's fair brew who you selling from
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: the Royals.
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: I'm gonna go back to the bullpen and I'm gonna
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: sell Carlos Estevez. I just I just don't, I don't understand,
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: and like he's not the best pitcher in the bullpen
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: and like it. It's like it's funny you look at
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: his results compared to Kinley's and it's almost like identical
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: as far as like, you know, the the k rate
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: dropped off the bay bip was unbelievable. His velocity was down,
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: you know, he didn't have like luck from the left
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: on base perspective, but this is a guy with an
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: extreme flyball profile, and somehow the homers weren't leaving last
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: year even though he's like a career one to one
- 1:24:33Speaker 2: kind of guy. He was down like zero point seven
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: and he's had seasons like above two. Like it's just
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: not great. And I don't see how people don't tee
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: up on this guy. And so yeah, he's got the job, like,
- 1:24:46Speaker 2: but he might lose it in the first month. So
- 1:24:49Speaker 2: I'm just I don't see it. And the draft price
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: is like it's hefty, Like I'm just I it's not
- 1:24:54Speaker 2: even like I'm selling it just because I don't like him.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Like the draft price, he's eighty two ADP, Like that's
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: that's scary. Give me, give me like Lucas Airsig or
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: somebody else like later and let's just see what happened.
- 1:25:07Speaker 2: So cool. I'm sure you're right there with me for
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: all the same reasons.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and I mean it's Emilio Pagan, but without the strikeouts.
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: It's it's a very high wire act. And especially when
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: I was doing those rodal wire game blurbs last year,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: I feel like I got a lot of Royals games,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: and so I was always like tracking those forty two
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: saves that came for Estevez were not smooth. There was
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: a lot of saves in there where he was on
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: the precipice of bowling it. There were multiple dudes on
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: base he would I mean, the walk rate was three
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: per nine, the strikeout rate was seven point four per nine.
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: It is not a great profile, and he really scared.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: He skated through the sixty seven games that he appeared
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: last season. But this is a guy who the everything's
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: just ready for him to explode at any moment, and
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: like you said, there's a great bullpen around him. So
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: if the Royals are in the thick of the race
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: and Carlos Estevez is keeping them from winning games in
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: what's going to be a tight ale Central, I think
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: they're gonna make the switch relatively quick because I mean,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: he is on an eleven million dollar deal, but like
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: that's not that rich.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: For a bold million dollars between friends.
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, at this point that like it in
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: it's he's on the last back end of the deal.
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: So like you know, I'm not really enthralled with what
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: Estevez is gonna put up for you.
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: What do you think, Marty, even in a draft standpoint,
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: this is just overall draft strategy for this year. I mean,
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: in the same area there's Austin Riley, There's Freddie Freeman,
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: There's Jackson Maryland, hell Garcia, There's there's Dylan Cees, you know, Riley, Green, Bellinger, Valdez.
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: My point is, if you get if you're gonna, if
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: you're gonna get a relief pitcher, invest in the top five.
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: If you don't, just wait, you know, get your Peak Fairbanks,
- 1:26:59Speaker 3: you know, get your your Santana. You know, it's it's fine,
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: especially if you're in a fath league like It's, you're
- 1:27:05Speaker 3: gonna have to find somebody off the waiver wire at
- 1:27:08Speaker 3: some point. So I'm my goal is to get one
- 1:27:12Speaker 3: of the top five closers and then like a Fairbanks
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: or Santana and just leave it at that. Anyone in
- 1:27:17Speaker 3: the middle. There's just so much more opportunity with starting
- 1:27:21Speaker 3: pitching and you know, great hitters.
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I'm totally there with you, all right, last
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: team of the division. This is I think one of
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: the fun things where we were talking with the Al
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: West where it's kind of strange that the H starts
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: the alphabetical list. It's strange that the M wraps the
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: end of the alphabetical list. Here With the Minnesota Twins,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I always note that when I'm like sorting my cards
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: and they are coming off of another tough season, went
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: seventy to ninety two, and I mean maybe like there's
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: often that I thank god I'm not a Twins fan,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: because what a depressing run it's been since those kind
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: of nineties championship runs that they put together. Because you know,
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: they look like they've been close the an injuries kick
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: in and then the owners step back in terms of
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: the investment this off season. They also because of some
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: of the ownership situation, I think it also forced out
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: Derek Falvey, who is a pretty good president baseball operations
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: in my mind. And then in terms of what the
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: team is looking at, they just lost Pablo Lopez this week.
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: The bullpen is a total mess. There is really not
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: too many dependable options there, and you're looking at maybe
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: thirty five year old Taylor Rodgers returning to close for them.
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: The rotation is relatively disappointing. And then you've got a
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: lineup that there are acquisitions in the off season where
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: Josh Bell and Victor Kartini. This is a team that's
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: actually projected to be just a tick under five hundred.
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: So it's like another frustrating team like Cleveland where you
- 1:28:54Speaker 1: would hope that ownership would just spend a little bit
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: more to be able to push it and be able
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: to get this team back into contention. It doesn't take
- 1:29:01Speaker 1: a lot in the Al Central with all those caveats
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: laid out, Marty, who are you binding from this twin steam?
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: It's funny, and I've said this before, I feel like
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: the AL Central, you know, the owners, you know, mister Ilich,
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: you know everybody. They all got into a room and
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: they're like, how about this, We profit most of it
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: and we'll you know, we'll spend about forty Everyone cool
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: with that because if you look the last decade, that's
- 1:29:24Speaker 3: exactly what this entire like, the whole the whole division
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: has done that. It's it's just crazy. But anyway, Yeah,
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: so I'm taking Matt Walner and I write about him
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: in my latest article as well. So, and this is
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: just overall with with drafting, and you're hearing it everywhere
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: that it's hard to find power late in drafts and
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: that's true. It really is. So Matt Walner to me
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: represents like one of the last legitimate thirty home run threats,
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: you know, outside obviously, like the early rounds. You know,
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: admittedly he has a very low floor, you know, and
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: then I'll get into it. But last year he hit
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: twenty two homers. He slashed two o two three eleven
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: four sixty four. Obviously, the two oh two batting average
- 1:30:10Speaker 3: is a huge concern, but you go look his he
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: had a career low babbit, a two twenty eight babit,
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: So it's that suggests he's probably more of a two
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: thirty two forty hitter. And then his plate discipline's improving.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: He walked it nearly a twelve percent clip. Last year,
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: he increased his contact rate up to sixty seven, which
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: is still well below average, but he's still, you know,
- 1:30:32Speaker 3: the trend is going upward. And then he also had
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: a thirteen point eight percent barrel rate. And his average
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: bat speed is seventy six point six miles per hour,
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: so that's in the ninety six percent tile. So he's
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: projected for a one to eighteen WRC. Plus. The biggest
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: thing is how many at bats should we expect from him,
- 1:30:51Speaker 3: there's two things holding him back. Number one is health.
- 1:30:54Speaker 3: You know, he's had a very hard time staying healthy
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: throughout his career, and he still cannot hit left a
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: left handed pitching the cross four seasons, he's bad one
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: to eighty one against lefties with sixty three strikeouts and
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: two hundred and five plate appearances. So pretty bad.
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:31:10Speaker 3: Then going back to the injuries real quick last year,
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: left hamstrain, hamstring strain, write oblique strain, and back spasms.
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: And lastly, because I have to be honest with your
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: you know, with your listeners, he struck out twenty nine
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: percent of the time. So you're looking at this player.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: This is why he's so low to his ADP and
- 1:31:28Speaker 3: that's why I repeat, his floor is very low. But
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: the upside is still there. I mean, if he can
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: continue to work on his contact rate just a little bit,
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: and if you can cut down the whiffs, you know,
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: thirty home runs and five hundred plate appearances, that is possible.
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: It's just how much is he going to be able
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: to withstand, you know, staying injury free throughout the throughout
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: the season.
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think it's all fair. It's post
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: pick three hundred. I mean also, don't sell them short.
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: It was a career low twenty nine point one k rate,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: so he.
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: Was true, Yeah, it was thirty six percent last year exactly.
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: So yeah, and I mean also a two twenty eight
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: babbitp Like I know, we've kind of developed beyond the
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: range of like, oh, just looking at the babbitb and
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: regressing it the other way. But like that stands out
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: as like a pretty low bath who smokes the ball
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: this hard?
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember, ife you. I think it was into
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: twenty four. I wrote an article about finding the next
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: Brent Rooker, and Matt Walder was like number one on
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: that list because he hits the ball hard. He does
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: all these things, he just does not know how to
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: avoid strikeouts. And that's who Rooker was. And then he
- 1:32:37Speaker 2: improved his eye of the plate and compared it with
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: the walks. All of a sudden he got on base,
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: the hit started to fall and the power laid in there.
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: So like Walner was a stretch because the strikeouts were
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: so bad and like he had to really up his
- 1:32:52Speaker 2: game in that, but like it's still there. That up's
- 1:32:54Speaker 2: like again, there's one issue he has, Like if you
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: can just figure that one thing, This would be really
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: really good. So yeah, I don't have a problem with
- 1:33:02Speaker 2: this one.
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: Yeah. I also like that because in terms of like
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: a Dynasty League play, you know who Brent Rucker came
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: up with the Minnesota Twins, that like, maybe it is
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: a development thing that Wallner might need a different hitting coach,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: but there is a.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: New, different team.
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: Yeah, so I mean keep that in mind, Like they're
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: gonna have new people in the front office, they have
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: a new manager, so there might be different voices in
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Matt Wallner's ear which might help out brew. Who are
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: you buying from the Twins.
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: I'm gonna stick with one of my man crushes here,
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: and that's gonna be Luke Kishall. I absolutely love Luke Keishall,
- 1:33:36Speaker 2: I think, you know, and it's the plate. It's the
- 1:33:39Speaker 2: plate discipline. The guy has an amazing plate discipline. He you know,
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: in the minors, he walked more than he struck out,
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: or at least was close to that. I'm stretched and
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: I'm fibbing a little bit, but it was pretty got
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: starn closed. He he's a speedster. I think people forget that.
- 1:33:53Speaker 2: And he's a very effective base runner. So you know,
- 1:33:55Speaker 2: just under fifty games last year, solid fourteen bases. I mean, yeah,
- 1:33:59Speaker 2: it was is he gonna Is he gonna steal forty five?
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: I don't think so, But we could easily see a
- 1:34:04Speaker 2: thirty thirty five seal season out the guy who can
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: put another ten or fifteen homers in there and keep
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: a reasonable batting everage. And it's like, and if you
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: look at where he's going from like a second base perspective,
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: it's it's kind of laughable. He's going eighth overall. From
- 1:34:20Speaker 2: a second base perspective, He's behind altuove Rafaela Holiday. You know,
- 1:34:25Speaker 2: it's it's it's kind of a minefield at that point
- 1:34:27Speaker 2: in time. He's the only guy that I look at there, honestly,
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: outside of like the top two second basements, He's the
- 1:34:34Speaker 2: only one that I feel like I know what I'm
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: getting and I feel like it's gonna happen again. I
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: get this injury risk and and and that kind of thing,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: but I feel a heck of a lot better with him.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: And you can see it kind of in ADP. He's
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: got a men pick up seventy five, he's got a
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: maxim one seventy nine. Like the it's it's all over
- 1:34:49Speaker 2: the board, and I'm I don't know if I'll go
- 1:34:52Speaker 2: seventy five, but I'm I'm really liking him at his
- 1:34:55Speaker 2: about one fifty eightyp.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: I'm also a big Lukeishel fan, So I love that, Marty.
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: Where do you come down on Kishell? Because we drink
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: the kol aid on kishall we always have And so
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: what's your take do you have? Are you gonna temper us?
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: Are you right in that kool aid bath?
- 1:35:12Speaker 2: No?
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: I really like the profile. You know, he's not gonna
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: he's a steady batting average. It's going to get you
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: those swipes that you need, and as I was talking
- 1:35:19Speaker 3: about at middle infield or second base, like those are
- 1:35:22Speaker 3: the places where you need your stolen bases, you know.
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: So I love him for that. I took him most
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: recently in a twelve team and the in the ninth round,
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: so I took him right after Lchu Bay was drafted
- 1:35:35Speaker 3: and Nicol Horner went about a round before that. So
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: Kishel in the ninth in the ninth round, I like that.
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: All right. My pick to buy is I'm going with
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: Walker Jenkins. It's real late, it's post five hundred, but
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: I think he's going to play like seventy five to
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: eighty percent in the season personally that like, and especially
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: if he plays well in the spring, the Twins really
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: have no reason not to bring him up and put
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: him on the roster. You know, I'm not I've always
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: kind of been hoping that Trevor Larnak would turn into something,
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: but it's not materializing. The two backup outfielders on the
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: bench are Austin Martin and James Outman. Not gonna hold
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: back Walker Jenkins here, and then you also have the
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: Byron Buxton kind of injury factor. You've got Victor Carrattini
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: at DH where they could move wulner to. I think
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: there's a lot of room here for Jenkins to make
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: this roster. He's a non roster invite, and I think
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: he can hit the ground running and be this year's
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: kind of Pete Crow Armstrong esque player. Where Like it's
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: not gonna take I think too much for Walker Jenkins
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: to put together something like a fifteen fifteen twenty twenty.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: The reason I'm also kind of in the p PCA
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: like camp with this is like, I don't think he's
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: gonna quite peak to what PCA did last year, but
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: he does have a similar played approach. It's pretty aggressive,
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: but when you're considering how late it is and what
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: the upside could be with Walker Jenkins, even though like
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: it does feel like he's been around quite a while,
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: but you know, he was only a first round pick
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: in twenty twenty three. He's twenty years old. He's got
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: the pedigree in terms of like just a great frame
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: six three to ten, the defense will play in the
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: corners pretty well. I'm liking the opportunity here for Walker
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: Jenkins that I think he's going to be, uh somebody
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: I add late in lots of places to be able
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: to hold on to see if he does make that
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: roster spot out of spring or gets a pretty early opportunity.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: So I've liked a lot what came through in the
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: profile in twenty twenty five, and I think he can
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: carry it into twenty six. Okay, let's get into these cells.
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: So Marty, who you sell them from the twins?
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: And this one isn't the It's a lazy answer, but
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: it's true. I don't have him anywhere Byron Bucks.
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: Then yeah, mine too.
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: It's just yeah, it's you know, I feel like that's
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: a cop out answer. But I mean, this is that
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: same area we were just talking about, where you can
- 1:38:06Speaker 3: get Riley Green, Cody Bellinger, Robert Valdez, Finnie Paspentino, you know,
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: Jeremy Paana. You can get all these different types of
- 1:38:13Speaker 3: players that are steady, They're going to contribute every single
- 1:38:16Speaker 3: day and you don't really have to worry about it.
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: Buston made sense when he was going after the tenth round,
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: you know, last year, like there, that was the time
- 1:38:24Speaker 3: to take them. Now you're with this with that draft
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: pick around, you know, eighty eight overall, you're expecting him
- 1:38:31Speaker 3: to play one hundred at least one hundred and forty games,
- 1:38:34Speaker 3: Like that's what that's that's the hope. You know, he's
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: going to play almost every single day. So yeah, I'm
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: just out. It's just the injury risk was too high.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's only put up one hundred and forty
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: games once in twenty seventeen, that's when he last did it.
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: I get it.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: I'm with you. The last year was amazing. I wish
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: I had it rostered in more spots. But like I
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: think I'm perennially just going to be out on Buxton
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: because it's just it's too much risk for where he's going.
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: And on top of it too, I mean, if there's
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: any player that I'm actually concerned about getting WBC action,
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: it might be Byron Buxton playing center field and playing
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: meaningful games and actually kind of really putting his best
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: effort probably into the WBC as opposed to whatever the
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: Minnesota Twins season might end up being. And that is
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: right for Byron Buxton hamstring injury. So if you're taking
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: him early, kudos to you to swallow that risk pill.
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: But there's a lot of different ways this can go
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: wrong because we've seen it for the ten years between
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: twenty seventeen and twenty twenty five that pretty much happened.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: So Brew, where do you come down on Buxton in
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: terms of I'm sure he's in your top one hundred,
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: but like, how do you wait this risk profile?
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean even myself, who will go down that path?
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: Like I didn't sell him, but I was very very close,
- 1:39:55Speaker 2: and I probably will not be drafting him because it
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: is like of the guy to get injured like Buxton, Like,
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: if you want to put one hundred bucks in a
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: guy to get injured, he's gonna be the guy. I
- 1:40:05Speaker 2: have no idea how he got a WBC with all
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: the things about medicals this year, like any guy like
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: he's he's the one like I would have thought, like nope,
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: not getting in there. So yeah, I have zero problem
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: selling him, Like I'm I'm treating him as a hundred
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: game guy, like that's probably what I'm treating him is
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: and that might even be a little high and he
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: could do a ton of damage in that and so
- 1:40:24Speaker 2: but for that, it's probably like a one eight two
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: hundred ADP is like where that's where you want to
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: play that, and it's it's significantly above that.
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: So yeah, okay, so who are you selling on the Twins?
- 1:40:36Speaker 2: I'm going to ways down And it's just and I
- 1:40:38Speaker 2: think it's because of a few articles I've written. I've
- 1:40:40Speaker 2: had the people in the comments all over this guy
- 1:40:42Speaker 2: saying that they absolutely love it. It's brooks Lee, and
- 1:40:45Speaker 2: I just I don't understand it, Like and honestly, as
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: I look at the numbers, this is a guy with
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: a ground ball profile, doesn't hit the ball hard, doesn't
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: run well, doesn't field well. Somehow he hit eighteen homers
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: or sixteen homers last year, and I still don't understand
- 1:41:02Speaker 2: how Like I look at the numbers like I don't
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: see where they came from. And he seems like he's
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: relatively done that at a lot of different stops. But
- 1:41:09Speaker 2: he brings almost nothing else to the plate. Besides, he
- 1:41:13Speaker 2: poked sixteen homers in one hundred and fortyish games last year,
- 1:41:17Speaker 2: but he hit two thirty. He's not gonna give you
- 1:41:20Speaker 2: a ton of counting stats. He doesn't get on base, like,
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: there's not a lot here. But I've heard a lot
- 1:41:25Speaker 2: of people kind of hammering of like, man, I believe
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: in brooks Lee. I think he's gonna do amazing things,
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: And I literally just have no idea how that's the case.
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: And again it's a later ADP. It's three twenty. I
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: think there's some aspect of the positional eligibility that comes
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: in that people like they'll play here. But if I'm
- 1:41:43Speaker 2: looking for a middle infield position flexible guy late in
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: the draft, I'm looking for a guy that can hit
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: for a middling average and some speed, not not a
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: guy that like has like tenth percentile like contact or
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: actually is very high contact, but like quality as far
- 1:42:01Speaker 2: as hard hit rates and next of velosties and things
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: like that. So I'm just I'm just smiffed. I don't understand.
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: I again, I still don't understand how he has sixteen
- 1:42:08Speaker 2: homers last year. I feel like I need to go
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: watch them because they must have just been like tinking
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: the top of the fence and skipping out.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I mean I gave you lots of
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: great late and my options. I never have considered Brooksley.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: I can hit that up. It helps, So it is
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: a confounding. I'm looking at like this mont page. I
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: don't know if i'd see sixteen home run dots on
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: that spray chart, but apparently they're there. Marty, what do
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: you think about Brooksley.
- 1:42:34Speaker 3: Eighty one WRC plus? There you go, you know, a
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: five point eight barrel percentage maybe like if you're vis
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: your fourth shortstop in a DC. You know, I could
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: see just because he's going to play, that's fine, but
- 1:42:50Speaker 3: there's at this point there's no upside, so there's no
- 1:42:53Speaker 3: reason to do that.
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's it.
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: And I will say, I like a lot of the
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: guys in the minors for the two give me like
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: a Cole Pepper. You already talked about Jenkins, Like I
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: think there's a lot of guys coming that, and we
- 1:43:05Speaker 2: look at Brooksley, You're like, that's the first guy you're
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: gonna mention, Like, that's the first guys Like he's he's
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: he's not even average, like he's he's middling and he
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: doesn't do anything overly well. And I think he's just
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: had a few good hits and a few good spots
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: and that's like endeared him to some folks last last year.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: So yeah, easy, so all right, I think that's fair.
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: All right, let's wrap up the al Central here. We
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: did it. We got through all five teams. Marty, thank
