Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 2: My name is Trevor Matthews, founder of RefrigerationMentor.com. Over the past decade, I've trained tens of thousands of refrigeration technicians and contractors on supermarket refrigeration, and I've seen the same problem across the industry. Technicians are under pressure, second-guessing, and getting stuck on jobs too long.
- 0:03There's, there's more, but these are the mechanical pressure and temperature checks. And the big thing is here is if you get all these checks, for sure, for sure it's gonna give you a better idea on how that system's running. Now, if you can log this data and you can see it over a period of time of one day, two days, four days, a week, that is even game changing, because then you can really see what's happening into the system as the ambient changes, as the box load changes, whatever that is.
- 0:06Before we even dive into it, this is so, so important. I was having a conversation today. I call technicians all the time, talk to them about w- what they're learning, how they're growing, how refrigeration can help, like from our different training programs, and we're heavily involved with commercial refrigeration, supermarket refrigeration, CO2 refrigeration.
- 0:09That's what they wanna know. They're not worried about the, the amount of experience you have. The... Most contractors wanna, wanna help teach you, build you up so you don't bring bad habits. I hear it all the time. I'm gonna hire these, the experienced guys, 15, 20 years, they bring a lot of bad habits, and so, so be it.
- 0:12I'm gonna write this up properly so we get paid properly with all the points. So do you charge for vac pump usage and recovery? 'Cause I wanna make sure that I don't miss any of that when I'm writing out my service ticket. That service manager's gonna be blown away. And that's just using these checkpoints, okay?
- 0:15That's what you're worried about. Nobody does an oil temperature check, but that's what you worry about. That oil starts to break down, that's a major issue. We don't want that to break down. So you just click on this in the guide and it'll take you right to that video. Next is flooded starts. This is, this is the conversation or what causes flooded starts?
- 0:18And there's another video right here to watch. This is why you should get this guide and start studying it. It's only 17 pages, but if you study this and learn this inside and out and watch these videos, you will be ahead of the next technician that, that is not doing this stuff for sure. How to prevent slugging.
- 0:21How do you prevent it? Like I've talked about this a hundred... I don't know, dozens and dozens of videos of like check superheat at the compressor, check superheat at the evaporator, check discharge superheat, check if the crankshaft moves. Doesn't, doesn't really matter the compressor. If you grab the crankshaft on the semi-hermetic and there's a ton of up and down play, that must mean that there's some bearing wear.
- 0:24This is after you did your visual check 'cause if you look and there's oil everywhere, and there's no refrigerant in the sight glass or a receiver if you have one and it's off on low pressure control, good chance that there's not enough gas in it. Now, you gotta fix the leak, get some gas in there and kinda figure out.
- 0:27Here's one here talking about copper plating. Well, how do we do that? Well, someone didn't pull a proper evacuation usually. So now, don't get me wrong, there could have been a, a potential leak and it sucked in some moisture inside it or someone uses dirty hoses and didn't purge the hoses and just, or didn't pull an evacuation, because really you're supposed to pull evacuation on the hoses now before you put them on versus purging them Depending on where you're at in the world, it's gonna be different, so I'm just trying to share that knowledge there.
- 0:30Oh, that says the saturated suction temperature. Okay, well if that's the saturated suction temperature, okay, what is my actual temperature? Well, let's put a, the pipe clamp on there. Okay, my pipe temperature is 50. My, my clamp temperature is 40. What's my superheat? Okay, so these are, are the things that you need to look at.
- 0:33Has it helped? That's what we wanna know. Has it helped you? Is this benefiting you? Is this leveling you up? That's what we want. We want to help you level up, so when you get better, that makes everybody around you better. That helps your business grow. It helps your business make more money, which helps you make more money, which helps the industry.
