- 0:04Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Right Time, presented by PrizePix.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont E. Jones. Thanks for listening wherever
- 0:11Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You'll give
- 0:17Speaker 1: us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are a hater.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Still trying to come up with a name for these
- 0:24Speaker 1: Sunday shows that is better than You Should Be Grateful.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I don't think that one works. I would never. username
- 0:33Speaker 1: like that. Just throwing it out there.
- 0:35Speaker 2: You should be grateful with Bonnie Jones.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, you know. But we didn't do that.
- 0:43Speaker 1: We had a big college football Sunday. Got a couple games.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Talk about with you. We'll start, even though I personally
- 0:50Speaker 1: am off that Texas narcotic. Don't let Vince Young in
- 0:53Speaker 1: the background fool you. That's from a different time, okay?
- 0:56Speaker 1: For right now, I don't really do that, but I
- 0:59Speaker 1: think my mama still thinks I do that because She,
- 1:02Speaker 1: the OU grad, called me immediately after that game ended. Hey,
- 1:07Speaker 1: did you watch the game?
- 1:08Speaker 2: That's great.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. And far be it for
- 1:12Speaker 1: me to accuse my mother of being passive-aggressive. But I
- 1:17Speaker 1: think there was still a little needle involved there. Look,
- 1:24Speaker 1: there's analysis of this game that could be done, maybe
- 1:27Speaker 1: even better done by somebody else, but I feel like,
- 1:34Speaker 1: and I've been saying this, and I know that people,
- 1:36Speaker 1: you know, I actually had somebody get upset with me
- 1:38Speaker 1: about this, but I think real ones understand exactly what
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm talking about. And I'm giving this advice to Steve Sarkeesian.
- 1:43Speaker 1: He needs to understand this. I don't know if somebody
- 1:45Speaker 1: else can get him to understand it, but the bottom
- 1:47Speaker 1: line is being Matt Brown minus the Sonny disposition, doing
- 1:54Speaker 1: it all wrong. Just just just let you know right now,
- 1:57Speaker 1: if you're going to do if you're going to be
- 1:59Speaker 1: that way, you got to be all the way back. Right.
- 2:02Speaker 1: You got to make people feel a little bit better
- 2:03Speaker 1: about this. You. Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah. But
- 2:07Speaker 1: I also feel like this. This is not a game
- 2:09Speaker 1: Mac would have lost.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Like there are Mac losing to Oklahoma. Yeah, that's on
- 2:16Speaker 1: the board. Mac losing to an Oklahoma team that really
- 2:19Speaker 1: doesn't have any business in the same building with you.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That's not a game that Mac's going to lose, okay?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Sarkeesian has a very, very, very interesting Red River rivalry. Ooh, boy,
- 2:34Speaker 1: that's a twister. They got to kick it back old
- 2:38Speaker 1: school just so I don't sound like I can't talk.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Red River shootout. Bang, bang, bitch. Like, it's amazing. They
- 2:45Speaker 1: ain't doing nothing about all them guns.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 1: But I can't, like, the real guns.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I can't talk about it here? Anyway, he's 3-3 in
- 2:55Speaker 1: this game so far. The three wins, blowouts. I think
- 3:01Speaker 1: last year's was like 23-6 or 23-7 or something like that.
- 3:04Speaker 1: That was the closest to a close game. Otherwise, blowouts
- 3:08Speaker 1: like I'd never seen with my own eyeballs, at least
- 3:11Speaker 1: not with Texas on top. The other three, gut-wrenching losses.
- 3:21Speaker 1: and I know this is going to sound counterintuitive, but
- 3:23Speaker 1: that's not a fair trade. In this sort of game,
- 3:29Speaker 1: in this sort of rivalry, I feel like a gut-wrenching
- 3:34Speaker 1: loss feels worse than a blowout win.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I agree. I tend to agree with you.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Yeah, like, I think the blowout win... A, you weren't
- 3:50Speaker 1: supposed to do that blowout win, right? Or when they're new, like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 3:55Speaker 1: you got this. But especially in this one, where you're
- 3:58Speaker 1: the number one team in the country and they come
- 4:00Speaker 1: in there two and two, you can kind of end
- 4:03Speaker 1: their whole situation. And you had a lead and you
- 4:09Speaker 1: blew it. And again, you seem to have better players
- 4:12Speaker 1: than everybody else does. This right here, nah, man, this don't,
- 4:19Speaker 1: This don't feel good. And this is part of why
- 4:23Speaker 1: I'm on the like the playoff is in my bag.
- 4:25Speaker 1: I don't really care about it. Like it's a cool
- 4:27Speaker 1: little television product or whatever it is. But go ask
- 4:30Speaker 1: Ryan Day if that national championship did anything to make
- 4:34Speaker 1: his life easier. I guess it might have saved his
- 4:36Speaker 1: job that year. But think about what I'm saying here. Right.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:44Speaker 1: These are the things that are why people are into
- 4:46Speaker 1: this like this is one of the few neutral site
- 4:49Speaker 1: rivalry games that remains and it has that distinct look
- 4:53Speaker 1: because it's the split is at the 50s, right? So
- 4:57Speaker 1: you got the orange side. You got the crimson side.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You've got, you know, the stories are coming out the
- 5:03Speaker 1: tunnel because I forget which side I think it's the
- 5:04Speaker 1: Texas side that the tunnel is on. So both teams
- 5:06Speaker 1: have to come out because there's only one tunnel. all
- 5:09Speaker 1: of those things, them running around the field with that
- 5:11Speaker 1: stupid hat, everything that comes with it, right? This is
- 5:14Speaker 1: what it's about. This is what people are into. And
- 5:18Speaker 1: Texas can win a national championship. I bet you it'll
- 5:21Speaker 1: not feel as good as yesterday felt bad. And that's why,
- 5:26Speaker 1: if you're this Sark fella, you need to sunny it
- 5:29Speaker 1: up or not let that happen again, especially under the
- 5:32Speaker 1: circumstances under which it happened this time, right? Um... Even though,
- 5:37Speaker 1: by the way, Ryan, I didn't feel like this was
- 5:39Speaker 1: a coaching loss. No. You know, you don't want the
- 5:43Speaker 1: block punt for touchdown, obviously, right? And you typically can
- 5:47Speaker 1: kind of point to coaching when something like that happens.
- 5:49Speaker 1: But this wasn't a coaching loss.
- 5:52Speaker 2: This is not him getting.
- 5:54Speaker 3: overly tight weight like we've seen in the past or
- 5:56Speaker 3: like bizarre play calls to the goal line.
- 5:58Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It wasn't that. It wasn't that. And look, the biggest
- 6:00Speaker 1: coaching thing they did is the same thing they did
- 6:02Speaker 1: for Mac when it was time to get real serious
- 6:04Speaker 1: about business, right? Although Mac had a title by the
- 6:07Speaker 1: time they did this. It's called Muschamp, right? And their
- 6:12Speaker 1: talent with a Muschamp scheme, that feels great. Like if
- 6:16Speaker 1: that's your squad, that's what you want to watch. Like
- 6:18Speaker 1: Colin Simmons with that guy behind on the controls, right?
- 6:23Speaker 1: that that's what you want he's been doing this for
- 6:26Speaker 1: so long he's so good at it though yeah i
- 6:29Speaker 1: know you just can't give him too much power too
- 6:31Speaker 1: much control but he's.
- 6:33Speaker 2: So head coach of the defense.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah that that's exactly it he's the head coach of
- 6:38Speaker 1: the defense he's so good at it and i feel
- 6:41Speaker 1: like by and large they did what they were supposed
- 6:44Speaker 1: to do arch blew it right I mean, there's really
- 6:51Speaker 1: no way around that. Arch blew it. Arch threw a
- 6:54Speaker 1: pick six. Arch threw that pick on that out, and
- 6:57Speaker 1: you can't do that.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Right?
- 7:00Speaker 1: Like, if that's what it's going to be.
- 7:02Speaker 2: That was a terrible throw.
- 7:03Speaker 1: That was a terrible throw. If you're going to miss
- 7:05Speaker 1: that one, you have to miss it in the crowd.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:08Speaker 1: You can't miss it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Especially with all that time, the middle of the field's
- 7:12Speaker 2: available to you.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I mean, as I recall, that was an out, right?
- 7:17Speaker 2: Yes.
- 7:17Speaker 1: He went with the out, and... That, by the way,
- 7:20Speaker 1: is not a good sign for your NFL future. If
- 7:23Speaker 1: you can't get it there on the out in college,
- 7:27Speaker 1: or you can't see that you don't have that throw, ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,
- 7:31Speaker 1: that's not, because look, that ain't too far from being
- 7:33Speaker 1: another pick six, just by the definition of what happens
- 7:36Speaker 1: when you get picked on the out.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 7:38Speaker 1: But bottom line is, he had a pretty good game,
- 7:42Speaker 1: except for he didn't.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:44Speaker 1: But this is about moments. It's all about moments. And
- 7:49Speaker 1: when I think about this game and I'm thinking about it,
- 7:51Speaker 1: it really had me thinking about the larger context of
- 7:55Speaker 1: college football with the playoff. And again, why the playoff
- 7:59Speaker 1: doesn't really do a thing to me or why this
- 8:01Speaker 1: transfer and stuff, despite the fact that we will tune
- 8:03Speaker 1: in and watch the games. And despite the fact that
- 8:05Speaker 1: a lot of you will bet on the games that
- 8:07Speaker 1: to me, you lose something with these guys leaving schools
- 8:11Speaker 1: all the time. Like I was on Twitter and I
- 8:13Speaker 1: saw my man, Bruce Feldman. had put a post up
- 8:17Speaker 1: about Dylan Rayola. And I knew that he had left Nebraska,
- 8:21Speaker 1: but I just couldn't remember where he went.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:24Speaker 1: And I feel like I played that game with how
- 8:25Speaker 1: many people like, Oh, where are you now?
- 8:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 8:29Speaker 1: Um, that takes away from the charm of this.
- 8:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And, and, and, and if you want to know where
- 8:36Speaker 1: I'm coming from on this, the great example here is
- 8:39Speaker 1: Arch Manning. The rare guy that we knew was going
- 8:42Speaker 1: to be there the whole time he was there. Um,
- 8:46Speaker 1: I didn't know if we could necessarily bet on four,
- 8:49Speaker 1: but the uncle stayed for four. Who knows? He might
- 8:51Speaker 1: stay for five. Keep it real, though. Who knows how
- 8:55Speaker 1: much fun he's actually having? And maybe you might want
- 8:57Speaker 1: to just go to the NFL again. I mean, I
- 8:59Speaker 1: don't know. I remember his dad was the receiver.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:03Speaker 1: He may have been a high school quarterback. I really
- 9:05Speaker 1: don't know. But this is not Peyton's kid. I think
- 9:08Speaker 1: that's an important detail for people to remember.
- 9:10Speaker 3: And he's built more like. a small school receiver in
- 9:15Speaker 3: New Orleans than he is a NFL quarterback.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I think that's fair. This is what I think about, though,
- 9:22Speaker 1: with him in this game. There's something for me as
- 9:28Speaker 1: a consumer of these sports, and I guess it's somebody
- 9:31Speaker 1: who was covering them. The four-year arc, or however long
- 9:36Speaker 1: it is, the progression of a quarterback is the most,
- 9:40Speaker 1: or even honestly, any player really, but a quarterback, it
- 9:42Speaker 1: jumps out more, is the most fascinating thing to me
- 9:47Speaker 1: about covering college sports, especially if you're locked in on
- 9:52Speaker 1: just one team. You get them at 18. They get
- 9:56Speaker 1: out of there at like 22. Think of yourself Think
- 10:00Speaker 1: of your kids. Think of anybody. Divorce them from the
- 10:02Speaker 1: context of sports and just think about what all goes
- 10:06Speaker 1: on for you between 18 and 22 and the different
- 10:10Speaker 1: things you have to figure out, different things you have
- 10:11Speaker 1: to learn, different things you have to manage, everything else, right?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Take that. Now place that into the context of a
- 10:22Speaker 1: football player generally, but a quarterback specifically. And when we
- 10:26Speaker 1: take it to the quarterback, it is the reminder that
- 10:29Speaker 1: it's something I've really jumped on more in terms of
- 10:32Speaker 1: how I think about things in the last couple of years,
- 10:35Speaker 1: but this is about moments, right? So there are a
- 10:43Speaker 1: lot of players in different sports where if we break
- 10:48Speaker 1: out the context of their whole career, Kobe Bryant is
- 10:51Speaker 1: a great example where there are some real ups and
- 10:55Speaker 1: downs that take place there that if you are taking
- 10:58Speaker 1: his career in totality and place that totality next to
- 11:01Speaker 1: call it LeBron James or somebody else, it's very easy
- 11:05Speaker 1: to be like he 100% doesn't stack up. Now put
- 11:10Speaker 1: that in a list of moments, okay?
- 11:13Speaker 2: Okay.
- 11:14Speaker 1: Throw on there the Oop to Shaq in 2000. Throw
- 11:16Speaker 1: on the 62 and three quarters. Throw on the 81
- 11:19Speaker 1: point game. So forth and so on. Throw those moments
- 11:23Speaker 1: on there. And that stack of moments just shines. And
- 11:27Speaker 1: when people go to make their case or say what
- 11:29Speaker 1: it is they feel about him, they're not doing a
- 11:32Speaker 1: complex equation. They're drawing on the bank of moments.
- 11:37Speaker 2: And how they made them feel.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Right, right. But it's just, it's those moments. That's where
- 11:41Speaker 1: they go to. That's their thing, right? When you have
- 11:45Speaker 1: somebody with one of those careers where they stay in
- 11:48Speaker 1: one place, you wind up with the collection of moments,
- 11:52Speaker 1: both good and bad. Because I think also part of
- 11:54Speaker 1: the lore of Kobe, though people ignore the downs, is
- 11:57Speaker 1: the downs. Right. They provide important context for the rest. Right.
- 12:01Speaker 1: One of those moments standing in the mall parking lot
- 12:04Speaker 1: with some crazy sunglasses on saying he wanted to get
- 12:06Speaker 1: traded to Pluto. That's a moment. That's a thing.
- 12:11Speaker 3: Did you see how crazy, speaking of moments, did you
- 12:13Speaker 3: see how crazy online the Jalen Hurts, the footage of
- 12:17Speaker 3: the Jalen Hurts?
- 12:18Speaker 1: I did, I did. We'll get there, we'll get there,
- 12:20Speaker 1: we'll get there. You need, the moments are the thing.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Arch has a four-year run where some of his moments
- 12:29Speaker 1: are honestly Quinn Ewer's moments, which is to say, you
- 12:32Speaker 1: couldn't beat that guy out, huh? Why is this taking
- 12:35Speaker 1: so long? We thought you were going to get there.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And then he does. Last year, that team was fine.
- 12:42Speaker 1: They weren't bad. They were fine. But fine isn't what
- 12:46Speaker 1: people were sold, right? People were sold. They were getting
- 12:50Speaker 1: one of them Mannings. And fine is not what you
- 12:53Speaker 1: get in the context of one of these Mannings. Did
- 12:57Speaker 1: get a win over Oklahoma, though, right? They won that
- 12:59Speaker 1: game 34-3. The end of the year turned up. But
- 13:04Speaker 1: the defining moment of that season for Arch Manning, for
- 13:06Speaker 1: better or worse, was Ohio State. There was nothing that
- 13:10Speaker 1: happened after Ohio State that, in people's minds, overcame what
- 13:14Speaker 1: that moment looked like, even though it's the first game
- 13:18Speaker 1: of the season.
- 13:19Speaker 2: On the road.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Against maybe the most talented team in the country.
- 13:22Speaker 2: And it's a former NFL defensive coordinator. Right.
- 13:25Speaker 1: But that's the moment that stood out for people. And
- 13:29Speaker 1: this year, where we talked about this, we said that
- 13:33Speaker 1: he was maybe the fourth best quarterback in the SEC.
- 13:36Speaker 1: I saw Josh Pate said something like eight. I said
- 13:39Speaker 1: four because I could say four safely based on what
- 13:41Speaker 1: I'd seen. After watching Gunner Stockton yesterday, oh, that's another
- 13:44Speaker 1: guy that we're putting on top. I think there's some
- 13:47Speaker 1: others that you could come up with if you watch
- 13:49Speaker 1: more of this, right? By the way, Ryan, I see
- 13:50Speaker 1: in the comments, people get mad at me when I
- 13:52Speaker 1: say I did not watch a game. I don't know
- 13:54Speaker 1: how to break this to you guys, but they play
- 13:56Speaker 1: like six of these motherfuckers at the same time.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:59Speaker 1: I can't. My approach is much more watch as much
- 14:01Speaker 1: of one game as you can as opposed to just
- 14:04Speaker 1: I want to say I popped in. The difference between
- 14:06Speaker 1: me and your other favorite host is I don't lie
- 14:08Speaker 1: to you.
- 14:09Speaker 2: Deep, deep, deep, not wide.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that's all I'm saying. I don't lie to you
- 14:12Speaker 1: about whether or not I watched the games. But for Arch,
- 14:15Speaker 1: what do you think people are going to remember more?
- 14:16Speaker 1: 34-3 or him throwing that game away? Now, I'm not
- 14:22Speaker 1: saying this is a win for Arch. I'm not saying
- 14:24Speaker 1: that people should necessarily be negative. What I'm trying to say, though,
- 14:28Speaker 1: is I feel like for what most of us are
- 14:32Speaker 1: into this for, It's about that. Oklahoma, you're probably not
- 14:38Speaker 1: going to go to the playoff. Brent Venables, people are
- 14:41Speaker 1: probably not going to be happy if your team goes
- 14:43Speaker 1: seven and five. Not a single one of those individual
- 14:47Speaker 1: losses is going to feel better than yesterday did for
- 14:49Speaker 1: those people. With the exception of one, I loathe them.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Not quite like Aggie, though. Aggie's different.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 15:01Speaker 1: How's that going, fellas? Um, But this is about moments. Like,
- 15:07Speaker 1: that's how I see this. A game could be a moment,
- 15:09Speaker 1: a moment within a game, whatever it is. But this
- 15:11Speaker 1: thing is about moments. And that was the thing that
- 15:13Speaker 1: really struck me as I watched Texas lose that game.
- 15:16Speaker 1: And let's be clear, Texas lost that game. And it
- 15:20Speaker 1: feels much better when the other team loses than it
- 15:23Speaker 1: does when you actually win it yourself. Talk about some
- 15:26Speaker 1: found money. Do you remember when we thought John Mateer
- 15:29Speaker 1: was going to be like a number one draft pick?
- 15:31Speaker 2: Man.
- 15:32Speaker 1: That feels like forever ago. It don't matter today, though,
- 15:35Speaker 1: do it. Not even a little bit. Not even. Now,
- 15:41Speaker 1: for Arch, to be fair, if he goes out there
- 15:44Speaker 1: and they win a national championship and he turns this around,
- 15:46Speaker 1: people will remember that. That will be positive. But I
- 15:51Speaker 1: do feel like in the moments and even to a
- 15:55Speaker 1: degree in the final accountant, it's going to be this
- 16:00Speaker 1: is the thing that matters. This is what it comes
- 16:05Speaker 1: down to. And that whole squad better work really hard
- 16:08Speaker 1: to turn it into something else, boy, because that right
- 16:09Speaker 1: there was embarrassing. Football is heating up and everyone's pulling

- 17:26Speaker 1: you watched your own team lose to Kentucky, so you
- 17:30Speaker 1: didn't really have that much time for Georgia-Alabama. Again, we
- 17:34Speaker 1: don't lie to you. Yeah, you had more pressing concerns. Like,
- 17:39Speaker 1: when you have the opportunity to lose a game against
- 17:42Speaker 1: the Kentucky Wildcats, you got to make sure that's actually
- 17:44Speaker 1: going to happen.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Look, any time you can focus on, you know, your
- 17:48Speaker 3: winless SEC road streak continuing.
- 17:51Speaker 2: How long is it? It's about seven... It's like... Five
- 17:55Speaker 2: or six games. Goes back nearly two years.
- 17:58Speaker 3: And anytime you can lose a game where you get
- 18:01Speaker 3: outcoached by someone who's been doing it for six weeks,
- 18:05Speaker 3: you have to do it.
- 18:05Speaker 2: You have to lock in.
- 18:07Speaker 1: By the way, Doug, do you guys get to play
- 18:09Speaker 1: Aggie at home?
- 18:10Speaker 2: They already play the Aggie at home.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Oh, that's right. That's right.
- 18:12Speaker 3: They play the Aggie at home. That's part of the
- 18:14Speaker 3: reason why Elko's screaming about message.
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. I was just hoping Aggie was going to
- 18:18Speaker 1: get another loss in there. I was thinking maybe you
- 18:20Speaker 1: had a chance. I forgot that they already blew that.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:23Speaker 1: It's getting tight. It's getting tight over there. It's getting really,
- 18:26Speaker 1: really tight over there. So you did not see that
- 18:29Speaker 1: much of Georgia, Alabama. A couple of things for you
- 18:32Speaker 1: to note. I don't know if you know this, but
- 18:34Speaker 1: number one, a lot of white boys that go to
- 18:37Speaker 1: the other side of the tracks in this robbery. And
- 18:39Speaker 1: when I say that they catching passes, sometimes it's a
- 18:43Speaker 1: white boy running a route and a white boy running
- 18:45Speaker 1: down the field with them. And not like around the
- 18:49Speaker 1: line of scrimmage, neither. I mean, they go and, Way, way,
- 18:51Speaker 1: way far away. Georgia got this one white dude. They
- 18:54Speaker 1: threw him the ball. He was wearing number 23 and
- 18:57Speaker 1: he was scampering down the field. And I think it
- 18:59Speaker 1: was Fowler on the call. And Fowler's like, hey, 23
- 19:02Speaker 1: is pretty fast. He's not Brock Bowers fast, but he's
- 19:05Speaker 1: pretty fast. Georgia's so cold. Georgia got white boys that's fast.
- 19:09Speaker 1: And when they like, oh, he's not as fast as blank.
- 19:12Speaker 1: They don't throw out no perfunctory black dude. They go
- 19:15Speaker 1: throw out another white dude. The power of your brand
- 19:19Speaker 1: is really in how good your white dudes are, especially
- 19:21Speaker 1: in basketball. The real brands get the cold white boys.
- 19:26Speaker 1: That's how you know Duke, North Carolina, all them. You
- 19:28Speaker 1: really rolling when you in there for them cold white dudes.
- 19:32Speaker 1: That's when your shit is really cracking. Georgia has decided
- 19:36Speaker 1: Only the coldest white boys can enter. That's what they're
- 19:38Speaker 1: going for. I don't know if you know this, but
- 19:40Speaker 1: there's a law in the books on the state of
- 19:41Speaker 1: Georgia that there must be at least one white man
- 19:52Speaker 1: in every pass pattern. And you have to make every
- 19:55Speaker 1: best effort that a white man be the one to
- 19:58Speaker 1: throw on the ball. Just go look at the rosters.
- 20:00Speaker 1: You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. And I'm sure
- 20:02Speaker 1: that the quarterback and at least one of the white
- 20:04Speaker 1: boys catching the ball is, is, is roommates. Yep. These
- 20:09Speaker 1: are the rules. These are the rules. That's all I'm saying, right? However,
- 20:15Speaker 1: it used to be the dudes were just white. Now
- 20:17Speaker 1: they're white lightning. The white flash. They got to break
- 20:23Speaker 1: out all those nicknames, boy, because they is running down
- 20:26Speaker 1: the field. I felt like in watching that game, and
- 20:30Speaker 1: I watched most of it, Georgia felt like they had
- 20:34Speaker 1: a completely different caliber of talent than Alabama did.
- 20:38Speaker 3: Right?
- 20:38Speaker 1: Alabama felt like they had a quarterback that hadn't played
- 20:40Speaker 1: in the game this big, and it looked like that,
- 20:43Speaker 1: taking that sack at the end. No matter what happens,
- 20:45Speaker 1: you just can't do it. Can't do that. Cannot do that.
- 20:49Speaker 1: He looked really good, and I think he's more talented
- 20:53Speaker 1: than Gunnar Stockton. Stockton looked like he had done this before,
- 20:55Speaker 1: and Stockton looked like he was throwing to better players. Like,
- 20:59Speaker 1: there's no way you would have told me two years
- 21:01Speaker 1: ago that I thought that Ryan Williams would be out
- 21:03Speaker 1: there getting outclassed by various Caucasians. on the other team.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Just tell a young man, if that, that should make
- 21:14Speaker 1: you go hit the weights or something. I don't know.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Get in the judge machine or whatever.
- 21:19Speaker 1: I mean, it was two years ago. Then it looked
- 21:21Speaker 1: like he was a ghost. I mean, literally he moved
- 21:25Speaker 1: like a ghost. It was the most incredible thing I
- 21:27Speaker 1: had ever seen in this game. It was the most
- 21:30Speaker 1: incredible thing I had ever seen. But Georgia, you made
- 21:36Speaker 1: a great point off my ride that, Kirby has built
- 21:40Speaker 1: something where they can still play Saban 1.0 ball.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Yes.
- 21:46Speaker 1: We're going to throw it enough. And then we're just
- 21:48Speaker 1: going to be way better than you.
- 21:50Speaker 2: You know what his record is against teams not named Alabama?
- 21:53Speaker 1: What's that?
- 21:54Speaker 2: 120 and 14. Boom.
- 21:59Speaker 1: And that was the thing. Alabama's their bugaboo.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Right? And there was something charming in watching this, by
- 22:04Speaker 1: the way, the fact that he just still couldn't do it.
- 22:07Speaker 2: And it clearly drives him insane. Yes.
- 22:09Speaker 1: Even with Jalen Milrow out there and everything else, he
- 22:13Speaker 1: just couldn't get past them and almost didn't do it here.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Right.
- 22:18Speaker 1: But, man, another thing about Georgia, too. Georgia has this
- 22:22Speaker 1: Alabama thing that I don't like is that– I like
- 22:29Speaker 1: to know a little bit more about who the players are.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I just don't feel like I'd never feel like I'm
- 22:34Speaker 1: on a real first name basis. with the Georgia or
- 22:38Speaker 1: Alabama guys. The Florida schools had that. Like Florida, especially
- 22:42Speaker 1: Florida State, Miami. We knew who all those guys were.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Alabama is just, I mean, Georgia, you just trotted another
- 22:48Speaker 1: guy out there. Dwight Phillips. Sorry, I had to go
- 22:50Speaker 1: look up his name. I just remember that he wore
- 22:53Speaker 1: number 20 and that boy could move.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 1: Of course, I'm going to look it up and he
- 22:58Speaker 1: was like a six star.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Yeah, of course.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Moving, man. Maybe I'm missing this, but Georgia right now.
- 23:09Speaker 1: That is capital T, capital B, the best team in
- 23:13Speaker 1: the country right now.
- 23:14Speaker 2: For sure. Right?
- 23:17Speaker 1: And Ohio State has a candidate for the best player
- 23:21Speaker 1: I've ever seen.
- 23:23Speaker 3: Yeah, he does something outrageous. I mean, they had a
- 23:27Speaker 3: tough one, but I'm never going to be ready to out.
- 23:29Speaker 3: I can't believe I'm about to say this. I'm never
- 23:31Speaker 3: writing off Indiana football.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Hey, you were right. You sent me a text during
- 23:36Speaker 1: the game. That was so funny. You're like, I can't
- 23:38Speaker 1: believe I'm saying this, but Nebraska, it looks like Nebraska
- 23:41Speaker 1: has a chance to end Indiana's 21 game losing streak,
- 23:44Speaker 1: except maybe.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Yeah. 21. Yeah. He's now won 22 games in a
- 23:47Speaker 2: row at Indiana, Indiana. Yeah.
- 23:51Speaker 3: The last game they lost was Notre Dame in the semifinal.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Let me tell you this too, for Matt Rule, who
- 23:59Speaker 1: I generally believed. I mean, I watched what Matt Rule
- 24:01Speaker 1: did at Baylor and I watched what he did at Temple.
- 24:03Speaker 1: you're going to have a hard time telling me my rules,
- 24:05Speaker 1: not a good coach. I had one of my good buddies,
- 24:08Speaker 1: Joe Giglio used to make the point that he didn't
- 24:10Speaker 1: give rule credit because rule winning at Baylor. Cause he
- 24:12Speaker 1: believed that anybody could win with access to Texas recruits
- 24:17Speaker 1: in Texas. I'm like, nah, doc, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Go ask Dave Miranda about that right now. It's what
- 24:24Speaker 1: he did is really, really hard, but buddy, I assure you,
- 24:30Speaker 1: if there's any school that's like, why can't we do that?
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's got to be Nebraska, right?
- 24:37Speaker 2: Right.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I mean, for Nebraska, you know what it was before this?
- 24:40Speaker 1: If Wisconsin can do this, why can't we? Dot, dot, dot.
- 24:44Speaker 3: We basically all have the same jerseys anyway. You know,
- 24:48Speaker 3: why can't we roll this out and be like these teams?
- 24:50Speaker 1: I feel like right now the Big Ten is Ohio State, Michigan,
- 24:56Speaker 1: Penn State, Indiana. And 14 schools saying, well, if Indiana
- 25:04Speaker 1: can do it, dot, dot, dot. Right? Maybe you throw
- 25:07Speaker 1: like USC into the first category because they got their
- 25:11Speaker 1: own expectations. Oregon a little bit.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Right?
- 25:14Speaker 1: I guess Oregon lost to UCLA. At home. Yeah, that's
- 25:17Speaker 1: who DeLaRoya plays for now, by the way. But I
- 25:21Speaker 1: just couldn't believe how good them players are, the dudes
- 25:24Speaker 1: are that Georgia has.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, he's kind of gone under the radar
- 25:28Speaker 3: after winning those two national titles. But, I mean, that
- 25:32Speaker 3: roster is just always stacked, stacked, stacked.
- 25:35Speaker 1: And the thing about the roster that they've stacked over
- 25:38Speaker 1: the years is that it is not just loaded with
- 25:41Speaker 1: dudes from Atlanta and dudes from Georgia. Because I think
- 25:45Speaker 1: you could make an argument right now that... If they
- 25:51Speaker 1: told every school to win, you could only take players
- 25:57Speaker 1: from your state and then let every school compete over
- 26:00Speaker 1: the players that are within their state. Georgia would come
- 26:05Speaker 1: out with the best players.
- 26:07Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:07Speaker 1: If you play that game. And I know some people say, like,
- 26:10Speaker 1: what about Louisiana LSU as the only competition? Georgia's the
- 26:13Speaker 1: only competition in Georgia. Give Georgia Tech all the boys
- 26:17Speaker 1: that can do calculus. Give them all. You got to
- 26:20Speaker 1: have every single, I mean, every now and then you
- 26:21Speaker 1: get Calvin Johnson like that. I don't want to pretend like,
- 26:23Speaker 1: you know, there's nothing to it. But yeah, you go
- 26:25Speaker 1: ahead and take them and let Georgia have everybody else. Dude,
- 26:28Speaker 1: they're not even doing that. Brock Bowers ain't from one
- 26:30Speaker 1: of them, ain't from one of them towns I don't
- 26:32Speaker 1: want to go to at night. He's from California. I mean,
- 26:34Speaker 1: I don't know where he's from in California. I might
- 26:35Speaker 1: not want to go there at night either. But they
- 26:37Speaker 1: don't have, they don't even have to do that. They
- 26:40Speaker 1: just get the best players from everywhere. Like the day
- 26:44Speaker 1: I realized that Georgia was playing a different game, it
- 26:46Speaker 1: was when they had Bowers and Darnell Washington at the
- 26:48Speaker 1: same time, which meant that they were coming out of the,
- 26:50Speaker 1: you could say they were coming out of the huddle
- 26:52Speaker 1: with two tight ends. No, they weren't. They were coming
- 26:54Speaker 1: out of the huddle with six offensive linemen and three
- 26:57Speaker 1: wide receivers. Or it was two tight ends. Or it was,
- 27:01Speaker 1: they could just do whatever they wanted just on the
- 27:04Speaker 1: basis of the fact that they had these two tight
- 27:06Speaker 1: ends that didn't seem real in different ways that two
- 27:08Speaker 1: tight ends could not seem real. Just what it is.
- 27:11Speaker 1: What are they doing strategically? I don't fucking know. They're
- 27:13Speaker 1: being better than people. Just moving. I mean, this is
- 27:17Speaker 1: a good Alabama team.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Yes.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's a great Alabama team, but it's
- 27:21Speaker 1: a good Alabama team. Would you be surprised if they
- 27:25Speaker 1: got to the SEC championship game this year?
- 27:27Speaker 2: I would not.
- 27:27Speaker 1: I would not. It's a good team. And I think
- 27:32Speaker 1: Georgia's leaving that game mad that it was as close
- 27:34Speaker 1: as it was. I'm sure Kirby is. Kirby better not
- 27:38Speaker 1: be greedy. Kirby, Kirby, Kirby, Kirby needs to stick with
- 27:41Speaker 1: this with a whoo.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, man.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Got me one of these. I mean, they got him
- 27:45Speaker 1: in the SEC championship game that year, too. Still got
- 27:48Speaker 1: me one of these.
- 27:50Speaker 2: Who?
- 27:51Speaker 1: Oh, what else we got? Oh, all right, guys. I'm
- 27:56Speaker 1: going to help you. For those of you who aren't
- 27:58Speaker 1: like Internet college football fans. Elko made it. Mike Elko
- 28:02Speaker 1: is the head coach at Texas A & M. And
- 28:04Speaker 1: Elko made a big mistake this weekend. All right. So
- 28:11Speaker 1: they lost. Who beat them?
- 28:14Speaker 2: They lost to Missouri.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Okay. Which, by the way, not an unreasonable loss.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:21Speaker 1: The problem is it's the third one of these. This
- 28:24Speaker 1: was not– they weren't supposed to be going into that
- 28:26Speaker 1: game expecting to lose to Missouri. Okay. This is tough.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And I think Elko is a very good coach. I
- 28:33Speaker 1: think the team that he put together at Duke– Had
- 28:37Speaker 1: me sold on that forever. And they won a gang
- 28:39Speaker 1: of games last year, right? The only thing about Elko is,
- 28:43Speaker 1: I just want to point out that every hire that
- 28:49Speaker 1: they've made since Slocum left after 03, I think that's
- 28:56Speaker 1: the year. No, no, no, after 02. Every hire they've
- 29:00Speaker 1: made since then has been an external hire. And none
- 29:05Speaker 1: of them have worked. Now, Sumlin had done some time,
- 29:08Speaker 1: you know, had worked there, but they went from Sherrill
- 29:12Speaker 1: to Slocum, and Slocum, they worked very well with the
- 29:14Speaker 1: two of them. That era is probably the best era
- 29:16Speaker 1: of Texas A & M football. I just bring that
- 29:19Speaker 1: up because I wonder if you need a little time
- 29:21Speaker 1: there to, like, understand who these people are before you
- 29:25Speaker 1: come in and take that gig. I'm just asking. I'm
- 29:28Speaker 1: not sure. But Elko is, like, one of these football
- 29:31Speaker 1: genius guys. And that's cool. But that's not who these...
- 29:35Speaker 1: that's not, these aren't those kind of people.
- 29:37Speaker 2: No.
- 29:37Speaker 1: They're just not. They're just not. They don't like, they're
- 29:40Speaker 1: just not. Anyway, I say that to say, Elko is
- 29:43Speaker 1: a football genius guy. And I don't think he understands
- 29:48Speaker 1: exactly how he needs to navigate what's going on here.
- 29:51Speaker 1: And they've had a thing that happens in football quite often,
- 29:54Speaker 1: a crazy quarterback regression. Marcel Reed looked really good last year.
- 29:58Speaker 1: He does not look good this year. He looks like
- 30:01Speaker 1: he has no idea what he's supposed to do, when
- 30:03Speaker 1: he's supposed to do it. All of those things. Elko
- 30:07Speaker 1: does postgame and somebody asked him something about the fans
- 30:11Speaker 1: and he makes an important distinction. He's like, you got
- 30:14Speaker 1: the real fans and then you've got social media fans.
- 30:19Speaker 1: He could have left it there. But he pointed out
- 30:24Speaker 1: one particular Web site. That is called Texags.com. Except he
- 30:31Speaker 1: didn't call it Texags.com. He called it, and I quote,
- 30:36Speaker 1: Billy's cesspool. Billy is Billy Lucci, who owns that site.
- 30:44Speaker 1: And I want to be clear. That is not an
- 30:47Speaker 1: unfair assessment of Billy's site. And I say this as
- 30:50Speaker 1: somebody who knows Billy and likes him.
- 30:54Speaker 2: I mean, all college message boards are cesspools.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, you're not hearing me right now. If this was
- 31:04Speaker 1: about all college sites, I would have said that.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Yes, okay.
- 31:08Speaker 1: I'm talking about this one right here.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I concur with you on that. All right.
- 31:13Speaker 1: And I find that everybody I know that's ever met
- 31:15Speaker 1: Billy likes Billy. I had a nice long conversation with
- 31:18Speaker 1: Billy at the Super Bowl a couple years ago. I
- 31:20Speaker 1: did not expect to like Billy as much as I
- 31:22Speaker 1: did based on that site. However, what Elko doesn't get
- 31:27Speaker 1: is this. Billy and his site were there before him.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Billy and his site will be there after him. And
- 31:37Speaker 1: Billy is an NIL player. You can't get to this
- 31:44Speaker 1: point before october 15th no this is a this this
- 31:49Speaker 1: this indicates that it's about to be a real tough
- 31:54Speaker 1: ride for elko on the way out and while i
- 31:58Speaker 1: saw someone say it will cost a lot of money
- 32:01Speaker 1: for them to move on from elko i asked the
- 32:04Speaker 1: question that you always ask at times like this for
- 32:06Speaker 1: texas a & m what's the price accrued right i've
- 32:11Speaker 1: been reading the news sounds like the price accrued is
- 32:14Speaker 1: pretty high Yes. If the price of crude is high,
- 32:20Speaker 1: your job is not safe. Ever.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Ever.
- 32:26Speaker 1: But this is one of the worst jobs you can have.
- 32:34Speaker 1: Because for whatever reason, you're not going to be as
- 32:38Speaker 1: good as you expect.
- 32:39Speaker 2: No.
- 32:39Speaker 1: You're just not. Why not? It doesn't matter. Something's going
- 32:44Speaker 1: to happen and you're not. And you can't explain to
- 32:46Speaker 1: these people why it is that they ain't better. And
- 32:49Speaker 1: it's even harder to explain now that money is the
- 32:52Speaker 1: only part that matters. Because the issue used to be
- 32:55Speaker 1: white people struggle to understand that black people are not
- 32:59Speaker 1: here for this College Station thing. They'd be like, oh,
- 33:01Speaker 1: it's not like it used to be. It's still College Station.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Even Will Muschamp has jokes about that place. Will Muschamp.
- 33:10Speaker 1: All right. But now it's money. That holdup shouldn't be
- 33:15Speaker 1: a holdup, should it? What are they, three and three?
- 33:22Speaker 1: With more to come?
- 33:24Speaker 3: Right?
- 33:25Speaker 1: It's always going to be something. And I have to say,
- 33:29Speaker 1: on a day where Oklahoma won, Texas A & M losing,
- 33:34Speaker 1: we're all square. But ladies and gentlemen, thanks so much
- 33:38Speaker 1: for joining us here on The Right Time. We do
- 33:39Speaker 1: this four times a week, sometimes on Sundays. Right. Bubbly

- 33:58Speaker 1: are a hater. We'll talk to you guys in a
- 33:59Speaker 1: couple of days. Take it easy.
