- 0:00Speaker 1: One WQ I K, good morning, Hope all is well
- 0:04Speaker 1: with you. It's the Big show with Froggy John and Meghan.
- 0:07Speaker 2: I am totally just mesmerized by this peg Leg Pete story.
- 0:10Speaker 2: I mean, like two I've seen peg Leg Pete in Fernandina. Yeah,
- 0:14Speaker 2: just never really kind of thought about the history of
- 0:16Speaker 2: peg leg Pete and what it means and all that
- 0:18Speaker 2: kind of stuff. And then yesterday the news story came
- 0:20Speaker 2: out that his I don't know if it's his leg
- 0:24Speaker 2: that's infested with bugs as they're calling it, or if
- 0:27Speaker 2: it's the whole statue or whatever it is, right, but
- 0:29Speaker 2: I'm really kind of, you know, just really intrigued by
- 0:32Speaker 2: this thing. And then Meghan, yesterday, I know you went,
- 0:35Speaker 2: you saw peg Leg Pete and then you've done some
- 0:37Speaker 2: research and so what exactly is the story behind peg
- 0:41Speaker 2: Leg Pete.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Well, he was at an old bar that John used
- 0:45Speaker 3: to go to, the Palace Salote. Play your band played, my.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Friend's band played there. I never played there yet, but
- 0:52Speaker 4: I did go see him, and then.
- 0:53Speaker 3: They closed down, so he got moved over to a museum.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Right the museum got infested with bugs. We're kind of
- 1:00Speaker 3: assuming termites because peg legs made.
- 1:02Speaker 4: Out of wood. But I don't know, right, we don't.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Know for sure, but I'm guessing that is the term
- 1:06Speaker 2: And when I when I did speak to the mayor
- 1:09Speaker 2: of Fernandina Beach yesterday, Mayor James Anton, and he didn't
- 1:14Speaker 2: say it wasn't termites.
- 1:15Speaker 4: So I'm guessing it's termites. That's my guess. That's what
- 1:17Speaker 4: we're guessing. So all we needs a ten?
- 1:19Speaker 1: Is it because you're thinking of a peg leg, you're
- 1:21Speaker 1: thinking of wood, and then so you're thinking of turnlis.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Yes, I think the whole things may out of wood.
- 1:25Speaker 4: It is.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I think it is. Is that what you think we
- 1:28Speaker 1: saw when you were checking out peg leg Peek?
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah, it looked like it.
- 1:31Speaker 3: He looked like he had some gloss on him. And
- 1:32Speaker 3: I think this is because he was like repaired a
- 1:35Speaker 3: couple of years ago. When they repaired him, though, they
- 1:38Speaker 3: mixed in some ashes from the Pirate Club president mad Max.
- 1:43Speaker 4: So he's like, yeah, it was like.
- 1:45Speaker 3: A whole search that went on to figure out whose
- 1:47Speaker 3: ashes were in peg leg pee.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:49Speaker 2: All right, so we need to do our part to
- 1:51Speaker 2: help save it. So I guess what the city of
- 1:53Speaker 2: Fernandina is really looking for is they need some funds
- 1:56Speaker 2: to pay for the restoration of peg Leg Pete so
- 1:59Speaker 2: he can go back into the museum in his in
- 2:01Speaker 2: his proper setting. Right now, he's not able to be
- 2:04Speaker 2: there because I don't think they want the bugs that
- 2:07Speaker 2: are in peg Leg Pete to then get into.
- 2:09Speaker 4: The rest of the museum.
- 2:10Speaker 1: So that's the reason, right they're saying it's been deemed
- 2:12Speaker 1: unsafe for public. Oh interaction.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Oh gosh, well that's not good. I was up closing
- 2:17Speaker 3: personal with them yesterday.
- 2:19Speaker 4: You were interacting with the old peg Leg. So we are.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We're gonna talk to the mayor of Fernandina Beach a
- 2:25Speaker 2: little bit later this morning. We'll talk to him and
- 2:28Speaker 2: see exactly what we can do to help save peg
- 2:31Speaker 2: Leg Pete, and then we'll let you know what you
- 2:32Speaker 2: could do.
- 2:33Speaker 4: To help us save peg Leg Peek. Sounds like a
- 2:36Speaker 4: good plat man. I knew we were not gonna.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Get Country ninety nine one WQ I K good morning,
- 2:43Speaker 1: it's the big show, Frankie, John and Megan A happy Thursday.
- 2:47Speaker 2: So good to be here on this Thursday. And I'm
- 2:48Speaker 2: will tell you right now, have you looked ahead at
- 2:50Speaker 2: the ten day forecast at all?
- 2:53Speaker 4: To look at that. Then I know he's doing Parker
- 2:55Speaker 4: shopping right now.
- 2:56Speaker 2: It's gonna be gorgeous today, it's gonna be gorgeous again Tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday,
- 3:01Speaker 2: and then and then.
- 3:02Speaker 4: It comes froggyes, hell yes.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Then we have the space heater cranked up to ten
- 3:06Speaker 3: in here.
- 3:07Speaker 2: Coming between Sunday night and Monday. I don't know what's happening,
- 3:10Speaker 2: but Monday morning it's gonna be thirty nine. On Tuesday
- 3:13Speaker 2: morning it's gonna be thirty five. Yeah, these are caled
- 3:17Speaker 2: cold fronts now. It's gonna be that's cold for November,
- 3:19Speaker 2: but it's early. This is early cold for November. It's early,
- 3:22Speaker 2: so just be prepared next week and to have some
- 3:24Speaker 2: cold weather. But I did look at the bottom of
- 3:26Speaker 2: the ten day forecast. That is gonna warm up again.
- 3:28Speaker 2: We'll be back in the seventies.
- 3:29Speaker 4: There you go. That's good. Then we won't be stuck
- 3:31Speaker 4: in it. No, just no, just a temporary freeze. Frog.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'll wear all my warm clothes on those two days.
- 3:37Speaker 2: I'll wear every warm piece of clothing that I own.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, it'll get us through. And I'll turn
- 3:41Speaker 2: the space heater on so get ready.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I'm we're gonna have to hide it.
- 3:45Speaker 4: I'm not familiar with it. I'm not feeling well Tuesday.
- 3:48Speaker 2: That's fun. Now, what's going on in Nashville? Got Megan's
- 3:51Speaker 2: music minute?
- 3:51Speaker 4: What's going on? Well?
- 3:52Speaker 3: C MT's Hot twenty countdown. It's coming to an end
- 3:55Speaker 3: after almost thirteen years of running.
- 3:57Speaker 4: I can't believe this.
- 3:58Speaker 1: I watched that every single weekend morning. Wow, I didn't
- 4:01Speaker 1: know they still played video. Yeah, background music. I love it.
- 4:04Speaker 4: I did too. It's a nostalgic.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Jelly Roll was profiled after going into a Louis Vauton store.
- 4:09Speaker 3: They thought he was a criminal. I thought everyone knew
- 4:12Speaker 3: who jelly Roll was at this point.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Where is in Australia, right, Yeah? I would still think
- 4:16Speaker 1: they would know who jelly Roll is. There's a guy
- 4:19Speaker 1: with attached exactly criminal.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I wouldn't think he'd be profiled in Australia.
- 4:25Speaker 2: He said, the last time you got looked at like
- 4:26Speaker 2: a criminal, he was the criminal.
- 4:30Speaker 4: They're only partially right there.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Thomas Rhet's wife surprised us all with the post last night.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Will nay come here, honey? Remember at the president that
- 4:42Speaker 4: we got today?
- 4:43Speaker 5: Yes? It did not come in, but something else did.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I told you, Oh my gosh, I love the one
- 5:03Speaker 4: child says with who baby number five's on the way,
- 5:08Speaker 4: and that video is on our social media. That is
- 5:11Speaker 4: so cool.
- 5:12Speaker 2: That really is cool. I'm glad to see them having
- 5:14Speaker 2: baby number five. They got an army now, one of
- 5:16Speaker 2: the greatest, one of the great families. She's wonderful Thomas,
- 5:19Speaker 2: which is one.
- 5:19Speaker 4: Of the great guys. He really is a good guy.
- 5:21Speaker 4: I'm really glad I got a chance to know them.
- 5:23Speaker 2: If you want to get ahold of us, there's a
- 5:25Speaker 2: new way you can text us now. I just simply
- 5:27Speaker 2: text WQIK the word letters w QIK and whatever you
- 5:32Speaker 2: want to say to eight two nine four five. We
- 5:35Speaker 2: would love to hear from you. And here's the deal,
- 5:37Speaker 2: we might even call you back if you text us
- 5:39Speaker 2: something cool. So WQYK and what you want to say
- 5:42Speaker 2: to eight two nine four.
- 5:48Speaker 1: With Country ninety nine one w QIK The Big Show
- 5:51Speaker 1: with Froggy, John and Megan.
- 5:52Speaker 4: This is a.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Carryover from Halloween. Cop suspected this dude this is down
- 5:56Speaker 1: in the Miami area named Jimmy. South Florida seems super
- 6:00Speaker 1: use a lot of flority don't say. Then were the
- 6:02Speaker 1: further south you go, the crazier you get. Yep, the
- 6:06Speaker 1: cops suspected he was a little impaired. They did a
- 6:08Speaker 1: field sobriety test and he failed. And there's nothing funny
- 6:10Speaker 1: about Dui. No, just letting you know. He was the
- 6:13Speaker 1: rest of Dui. It was what he was wearing. Mind you,
- 6:18Speaker 1: it was Halloween, Okay he was wearing. He was dressed
- 6:22Speaker 1: like an old inmate.
- 6:24Speaker 4: He was ready to go.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Country ninety nine one wqhi K, how you doing? Froggy
- 6:30Speaker 1: knows I love I'd love that version. John does not
- 6:33Speaker 1: like that song.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Just don't. He just doesn't. He doesn't.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I'm glad others do. I'm so happy you all do.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He'll play it for you. I just did sometimes I
- 6:42Speaker 1: had no hope you're doing well. He's Froggy, I'm John,
- 6:48Speaker 1: She's Megan, and we are the big show.
- 6:51Speaker 5: All.
- 6:51Speaker 4: It's a Halloween almost a week in the rear view
- 6:53Speaker 4: mirrors last Friday. So yeah, how much Halloween candy did
- 6:57Speaker 4: you eat? Megan? A bucket? You literal bucket? John? How
- 7:02Speaker 4: much did you be? I didn't have much at all?
- 7:03Speaker 4: I did it?
- 7:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't. Head of stickers and Reeses. Probably it's
- 7:07Speaker 1: about it.
- 7:07Speaker 2: The problem is we bought our Halloween candy about three
- 7:09Speaker 2: days prior to Halloween, which is still pretty late in
- 7:11Speaker 2: the game.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Yeah, you were dipping though, where I ate half of
- 7:14Speaker 4: it before the trigger treats came. Yep, it should be Yeah.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And then you guys know my wife had a candy
- 7:19Speaker 2: bar at our party. Yes, and there was We ate
- 7:21Speaker 2: a lot of that candy, So a lot of candy
- 7:23Speaker 2: was consumed in the Froggy household.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Yes, indeed. Well, the National Academy of.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Sports Medicine has done the math for us and figured
- 7:30Speaker 2: out how much exercise it takes to work off calories
- 7:34Speaker 2: in Halloween candy.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Who asked them? This is not gonna be good.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Now, we've all seen, you know, they come in different sizes.
- 7:40Speaker 2: You've heard of the fun size Reese's peanut butter.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Cuff fun size, which eat what means eat ten exactly correct?
- 7:46Speaker 2: Ready, yep, fun size contains one hundred and ten calories.
- 7:49Speaker 2: It would take you twenty seven and a half minutes
- 7:52Speaker 2: of jumping rope to torch one. Reese's fun Size.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Oh that's not good.
- 7:58Speaker 3: We had a bunch of those this year, and I
- 8:00Speaker 3: et them all, we're fighting over them.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Fun size means any need like eight or ten of them, Yes, exactly,
- 8:05Speaker 2: that's what that's what that means. It's a legal definition.
- 8:07Speaker 2: The Snicker's a little fun sized bar. So what's it?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Two inches? Yeah, okay, a Snicker's fun size bar is
- 8:13Speaker 2: one hundred and sixty calories. It would take fifteen minutes
- 8:16Speaker 2: of push ups to burn those off. And that's if
- 8:18Speaker 2: you go hard. Because the calorie burn ranges between four
- 8:21Speaker 2: and eleven a minute. I better drop and give me
- 8:23Speaker 2: fifteen minutes.
- 8:24Speaker 4: Yeah, Oh my gosh, Skittles.
- 8:26Speaker 5: What.
- 8:30Speaker 4: God, how much? That's not even getting your wrapper off.
- 8:35Speaker 4: I mean, look at this.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I'm gonna need to exercisement from now to like twenty
- 8:38Speaker 2: thirty and stip Halloween all those years in.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Between, trying to like the army up in here. Her
- 8:45Speaker 4: army days are coming back way too quickly. Egg leg Pete.
- 8:48Speaker 1: It's going to need some help out in fern Indina Beach,
- 8:51Speaker 1: a legendary statue out in fern Indina Beach, and we're
- 8:55Speaker 1: reaching out to Mayor James Anton of Fernandina Beach to
- 8:58Speaker 1: see what we can do. Mayor, thanks for taking the
- 9:01Speaker 1: time to be with us this morning the Big Show
- 9:03Speaker 1: with Froggie, John and Meghan in Country ninety nine one WQIK.
- 9:07Speaker 4: First, how about little history on peg Leg Pete.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, peg Leg Pete was carved from actual natural wood,
- 9:13Speaker 5: and then there's other elements I believe that were put
- 9:15Speaker 5: into it, of course in the paints and like either
- 9:18Speaker 5: a crylic or residence. Some artists that know would tell
- 9:20Speaker 5: you better than I could. But the statue nearly fifty
- 9:23Speaker 5: years old and it's iconic for our downtown and for
- 9:27Speaker 5: those that have watched the meeting on Tuesday night, one
- 9:31Speaker 5: of our lifelong residents gave a very expansive presentation on
- 9:35Speaker 5: how peg Leg Pete was made, how the Pirates Club
- 9:39Speaker 5: you gave this to the city essentially, and then how
- 9:44Speaker 5: much it's been a landmark for our city when residents
- 9:47Speaker 5: are walking downtown, tourists are looking at it on our waterfront.
- 9:51Speaker 5: So ultimately the fact that it started to deteriorate, and
- 9:55Speaker 5: even one of the original Pirate Club members, mister Joe
- 9:59Speaker 5: Brown came I spoke at the meeting that they had
- 10:01Speaker 5: never had the foresight that this would be such a
- 10:04Speaker 5: thing fifty years later, that it would need to be restored.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Mister Mayer, I've.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Got to ask you, how much are we talking like,
- 10:12Speaker 3: how much would it actually take to get peg Leg Pete.
- 10:15Speaker 5: Yeah, we had at least frost the middle on the
- 10:18Speaker 5: lower end it was in like the twelve to fifteen
- 10:21Speaker 5: thousand dollars range, and on the higher end, which included
- 10:24Speaker 5: more of the complete package, if you will.
- 10:27Speaker 2: And what exactly is peg Leg Pete infested with? Is
- 10:30Speaker 2: it termites?
- 10:31Speaker 5: I believe it's deterioration of the wood. I can't speak
- 10:34Speaker 5: personally to whether there's termites, but ultimately it's gotten to
- 10:38Speaker 5: the point since it's been in a public place and
- 10:40Speaker 5: there's nothing that prevents our citizens from you know, standing
- 10:44Speaker 5: on it, climbing on it, there was enough of a
- 10:47Speaker 5: hazard deemed by an engineering report that if this were
- 10:50Speaker 5: to break and create some form of liability for the city.
- 10:53Speaker 5: And of course the other piece is the concern that
- 10:55Speaker 5: will then destroy this iconic statue. It was wrecked, amended
- 11:00Speaker 5: to be removed, So that's why it's in the museum now.
- 11:03Speaker 5: And now there's a lot of public discussion that's been
- 11:06Speaker 5: brewing about can we restore it and put it back
- 11:09Speaker 5: in its place?
- 11:09Speaker 4: So what can we do to help.
- 11:12Speaker 5: I think using your news station as a megaphone to
- 11:16Speaker 5: project and call upon interest and say, hey, who's willing
- 11:21Speaker 5: to throw ten twenty fifty dollars? Before you know it,
- 11:24Speaker 5: one hundred to five hundred donors depending on their donor bubble,
- 11:26Speaker 5: we can hit that.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Number, right, And how do we go about donating those funds?
- 11:30Speaker 2: Where would we do that?
- 11:31Speaker 5: That's something I'd like to give you more solid answer.
- 11:33Speaker 5: Within the next twenty four to forty eight hours, we
- 11:35Speaker 5: could find what's a reasonable time frame, thirty sixty ninety
- 11:38Speaker 5: days or do we want to even just run this
- 11:40Speaker 5: and definitely until we hit the gold dollar amount?
- 11:43Speaker 4: All right, we'll do that.
- 11:44Speaker 2: We will definitely be in touch, can keep us updated
- 11:46Speaker 2: on what we can do to help, and let's try
- 11:47Speaker 2: to save old tag leg Pete.
- 11:51Speaker 5: I'm awesome, but we really appreciate your support, your enthusiasm,
- 11:56Speaker 5: and we look forward to hopefully making this really be
- 11:58Speaker 5: a beautiful partnership.
