- 0:28Hey, everybody. Good morning.
- 0:29From the chicken coop. So a couple weeks ago, it was
- 0:32last week. Sometimes I lose track of when I
- 0:34actually talk to you guys about some things, but there was some
- 0:37talk that I did about getting older and have people really
- 0:41sent me messages about this. So I want to talk a little bit
- 0:44more about that because I think that it's such an important
- 0:47distinction for everybody to kind of take on and own, you
- 0:50know, we have to stop worrying about getting older and instead
- 0:56focus our attention on how we want to be thinking about
- 1:01getting older. So there's two different things.
- 1:04I can't stop the chronological clock in my head, OK?
- 1:07Like, I know, I know when my birth date was, I'm very clear
- 1:11of that. I've had many birthdays.
- 1:13So that's there. And I could say, you know, OK, I
- 1:18feel sad about the fact that I'm getting older.
- 1:21I could do all those things, but it's a privilege that's not
- 1:23given to everybody. There's some people I lost some
- 1:26people very early on in life, and that was incredibly hard for
- 1:30me. And they never got to get out of
- 1:31their 30s. They never got to get out of
- 1:33their 20s. In fact, when I was in high
- 1:35school, there are people that that sat right next to me in
- 1:40psychology class and never even got out of high school, died in
- 1:44a car accident. So this privilege of getting
- 1:47older is something I've always been very aware of.
- 1:50And I think it's important to start saying instead of I'm, you
- 1:54know, I I worry about getting older.
- 1:56I can't tell you how much I hear people say that.
- 1:59And instead of saying I'm worried about getting older,
- 2:01instead say I'm going to cultivate a strong mindset and
- 2:05decide how I want to think about getting older.
- 2:09Getting older is just it's a matter of perspective.
- 2:11It's all an intent of what you think.
- 2:14So could it be that you start to believe that it has many gifts
- 2:20in it, many freedoms in it? Yes, if you decide to make it be
- 2:24that way. Also, you can at any point in
- 2:27time decide that it's going to be your best version of you.
- 2:31So instead of looking at your 20s and saying, God, look at I
- 2:35wish I would I had that body again.
- 2:37Make that body now. Do what you can to make that
- 2:40body now. And is it going to be different?
- 2:44Yes, it'll be different, but it will be better if you focus on
- 2:47it being better, 'cause you get to write it the way you want it
- 2:50to be. When we make that decision to
- 2:52say I am going to do this the best that I absolutely have ever
- 2:59done something, it's invigorating.
- 3:01It lights you up. I know when I go to write a book
- 3:03or I'm going to, you know, do something every day when I come
- 3:06up to record the podcast for you.
- 3:08I always think, OK, today is going to be the best one I've
- 3:10ever done. I actually think those thoughts
- 3:12because I really do want to make them be that way, and it can't
- 3:16show up unless I decide to do it.
- 3:18When I create something, I rarely go down the place of
- 3:22going, OK, yeah, I mean, this is just going to be it.
- 3:26I don't know. I'm done.
- 3:28Do I have moments where they sneak in?
- 3:31Yes. Because I'm human.
- 3:33Do I let them stay? No, because I don't like them
- 3:36and they don't serve me. Doesn't work.
- 3:38Don't need it. So it's your decision how you
- 3:41want to view the theory of getting older Chronologically,
- 3:46you can't change it. But does it mean you have to
- 3:49actually believe that? Does it mean you have to not,
- 3:53you know, use that to the best of your ability that you are
- 3:57currently in surrounded by? Because everybody's got their
- 4:00belief systems that they're built around and people around
- 4:02them tend to have it. But to the best of your ability,
- 4:05shift that a little bit everyday, a little bit everyday,
- 4:08a little bit everyday and all of a sudden you're going to start
- 4:10to see things actually really make a leap, sometimes a quantum
- 4:15leap. It's kind of like some when
- 4:18somebody says I'm starting to do just, I'm going to start
- 4:21walking. I'm just going to start walking
- 4:22for 30 minutes a day and then they start noticing they feel
- 4:24really good and then they go, OK, I'm going to make it 45, OK,
- 4:28now I'm going to make it an hour a day.
- 4:29I'm going to walk for an hour a day.
- 4:31It changes you from the inside out and that's what this is
- 4:36meant to do as well. Change your thoughts around
- 4:38this. I promise you, getting old is
- 4:42not the problem. It's what you think about it
- 4:44that matters. There are some people who wait
- 4:46their entire life. I mean, if you go back hundreds
- 4:48of years and you read any of the writers, philosophers, old
- 4:52philosophers, they will say that, you know, they looked
- 4:56forward to that time because they wanted to get to that point
- 4:59where they were considered a sage.
- 5:01They didn't want to be young and foolish.
- 5:03They wanted to be dignified and in sage.
- 5:06Like, you know what? There's something in wisdom in
- 5:09that. So give yourself the gift of
- 5:12taking that on. Own it now so that you can help
- 5:15yourself in the process. Enjoy it and just every bit of
- 5:19your life should be enjoyed because it is a privilege that
- 5:22is not given to everyone. And remember that.
- 5:25All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I'll
- 5:27see you tomorrow. Bye.
