- 0:00Speaker 1: Back here with Gino on the Women's Basketball Coaches Show.
- 0:02Speaker 1: The men start tomorrow night. The batter's already up, which
- 0:05Speaker 1: needs to be unfurled Title number six and the Huskies
- 0:08Speaker 1: take on Sacred Heart. Mike and Wayne have the call
- 0:10Speaker 1: six thirty here on the Network. Speaking of which, I
- 0:13Speaker 1: saw a video not too long ago. Somebody posted it.
- 0:16Speaker 1: I think it was from you talking to Dan before
- 0:20Speaker 1: the first championship game in twenty three when you and
- 0:22Speaker 1: your wife went down to Houston to see that, and
- 0:25Speaker 1: you said that title game would be the worst night
- 0:27Speaker 1: of his life because if you win, you're hungry for more,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and if you lose, you're hungry to come back. That's
- 0:32Speaker 1: been your life since nineteen ninety five.
- 0:35Speaker 2: I know, I know, yeah, and I know you know,
- 0:40Speaker 2: I know what it was like. You know, after nineteen
- 0:43Speaker 2: ninety five, after winning that first national championship, where you're
- 0:50Speaker 2: you're like a checko on high kind of you know,
- 0:55Speaker 2: you become two people, You become the one person that
- 1:00Speaker 2: it's so incredibly grateful that you were able to win
- 1:04Speaker 2: a national championship. You you feel like you can accomplish
- 1:08Speaker 2: the the hardest thing there is to do. You you
- 1:14Speaker 2: know that you know, you've done something pretty special as
- 1:17Speaker 2: a team and as an individual, and and then the
- 1:22Speaker 2: the other half of you is can we do it again?
- 1:26Speaker 2: You know? Then you become obsessed with doing it again
- 1:29Speaker 2: and doing it again. And and the thing with us was,
- 1:33Speaker 2: you know, we went right back to the final four
- 1:34Speaker 2: in ninety six and we lunched an overtime, you know,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and and you realize that it's it's not it's not easy.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I realized back then it's not easy. And you do
- 1:48Speaker 2: become preoccupied, fascinated, fanatical, obsessed, you name it, with you know,
- 1:58Speaker 2: getting to the final four. And I never thought that
- 2:02Speaker 2: it would lead to us going to the final four
- 2:05Speaker 2: fourteen times in a row, you know, But that kind
- 2:10Speaker 2: of obsession that that's what I was talking about, you
- 2:17Speaker 2: you know. And and it's so cool for them because
- 2:21Speaker 2: they were able to go back and do it again.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And I just I just think that's one of the
- 2:28Speaker 2: hardest things there is to do to win back to back,
- 2:30Speaker 2: and especially in today's world, you know, where people move around.
- 2:33Speaker 2: So yeah, so yeah, it'd be exciting to see.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Yeah, for sure. Let's talk a couple of freshmen. We've
- 2:41Speaker 1: not seen Morgan Shelley yet. She's been fighting some leg
- 2:44Speaker 1: injuries and stuff. But when she gets on the floor,
- 2:46Speaker 1: what are fans going to see from her? What kind
- 2:48Speaker 1: of game does she have?
- 2:50Speaker 2: Well, I'm hoping that a little bit of that is
- 2:52Speaker 2: this Thursday. You know, we're getting her back to practice
- 2:56Speaker 2: these next couple of days, today and tomorrow. But it
- 3:00Speaker 2: gives us another another presence in Yeah, she's not Sarah,
- 3:12Speaker 2: and she's not Ice, and she's not Jenna, but having
- 3:16Speaker 2: her in the front court every once in a while,
- 3:23Speaker 2: having someone down there or in that spot that plays
- 3:26Speaker 2: more like a guard but it's six ' two like Caroline,
- 3:31Speaker 2: maybe you know it does, Yeah, a lot of the
- 3:35Speaker 2: same things. You know, that's gonna that's going to create
- 3:42Speaker 2: some matchups problems, some matchup problems for other teams that
- 3:45Speaker 2: have you know, more size but less of ability to
- 3:49Speaker 2: play on the perimeter. It might hurt us because we
- 3:51Speaker 2: don't have the ability to guard them down there, but
- 3:53Speaker 2: we wouldn't be able to guard them down there anyway,
- 3:55Speaker 2: but we can cause you know, some problems for them.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So she's another playmaker, you know, she makes things happen,
- 4:02Speaker 2: and that's why it's so important to get her back
- 4:04Speaker 2: out on the court.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Right, Uh, we know Cakes is coming back. How about
- 4:10Speaker 1: let's to let's first start with Yanna. I mean, here's
- 4:12Speaker 1: a kid who's gone through all sorts of knee problems,
- 4:15Speaker 1: got that all cleaned up, and then what a freaked
- 4:18Speaker 1: shoulder injury has got her sideline Now.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just yeah, she's in fantastic shape. She's in
- 4:26Speaker 2: she looks great. You can see when she was at practice.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Every time the ball comes off the rim, she's so
- 4:35Speaker 2: good at getting us another possession without with her offensive rebounding,
- 4:40Speaker 2: she covers a lot of ground. On defense, we can
- 4:43Speaker 2: do a lot of things, uh defensively with with Yanna
- 4:48Speaker 2: that that we wouldn't normally be able to do. So
- 4:52Speaker 2: just the physical and athletic and strength presence that she
- 4:56Speaker 2: gives us. The sooner we get her back obviously, for
- 5:02Speaker 2: you know, when you look at some of the teams
- 5:04Speaker 2: that we're going to be playing, having the ability to
- 5:07Speaker 2: put her out there is going to be huge.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and asy seems like she's coming along just fine.
- 5:12Speaker 2: Huh. Yeah. Yeah, she's amping it up more and more
- 5:17Speaker 2: in practice, getting more minutes, getting her getting herself more
- 5:22Speaker 2: in game mode. You know, when you're doing a lot
- 5:25Speaker 2: of rehab, you're just basically rehabbing. But now she's actually playing.
- 5:29Speaker 2: You know, she's out on the court. She's doing four
- 5:33Speaker 2: and four, five on five and now, you know, we're
- 5:36Speaker 2: just going to have to do it enough so that
- 5:38Speaker 2: it becomes you know, gets her body acclimated to it.
- 5:41Speaker 2: And and I would expect her back, you know, sooner
- 5:45Speaker 2: rather than later.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Right, And we're talking Aubrey probably January at the earliest,
- 5:50Speaker 1: right giving.
- 5:50Speaker 2: No, you know, yeah, Aubrey's going to do some stuff
- 5:53Speaker 2: today for the first time in a while. And uh,
- 5:57Speaker 2: you know, she made a comment that she'd like to
- 5:59Speaker 2: be back sometime in December. Whether or not that's going
- 6:02Speaker 2: to happen or not, but if that's her goal, then
- 6:06Speaker 2: that would be tremendous.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, that's great news to hear. All Right, we'll come
- 6:10Speaker 1: back with the final segment with Gino and then a
- 6:13Speaker 1: player interview to be announced still here on the Yucutt
- 6:16Speaker 1: Women's Basketball Coaching Show for a Tuesday night here Onlearfield
