- 0:10Speaker 1: All right, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Philadelphia Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly
- 0:28Speaker 1: Philly sports podcast show in the world. The Philadelphia Eagles
- 0:34Speaker 1: absolutely pissing away this Week five game against the Denver Broncos.
- 0:38Speaker 1: They lose to the Broncos down at the Link, their
- 0:40Speaker 1: first loss of the season, first loss at Lincoln Financial Field,
- 0:44Speaker 1: by a score of twenty one to seventeen. We are
- 0:48Speaker 1: going to get into our themes of the game, as
- 0:50Speaker 1: we do after every Eagles game, and also we're gonna
- 0:53Speaker 1: grade each unit as well. I'm Jeff Warren. We are
- 0:57Speaker 1: by good buddy from Philadelphia Soccer now over the years
- 1:01Speaker 1: he has filled in for the guys and in terms
- 1:04Speaker 1: of doing some Eagles postgame analysis here, Josh Schuster, Josh,
- 1:07Speaker 1: you know what, maybe we should just talk about the
- 1:09Speaker 1: fact that the Philadelphia Union were the most impressive and
- 1:14Speaker 1: most important winning team here in the here in Philadelphia
- 1:18Speaker 1: this past week when you know, locking in the supporter
- 1:21Speaker 1: shield here. Maybe we should just talk about them instead
- 1:23Speaker 1: of this dumb Eagles team at this point.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Geez, yeah, Jeff, I thought that's what we were here
- 1:28Speaker 2: to talk about. Oh okay, I must have Communion are
- 1:30Speaker 2: the best team in the MLS. Yeah, they are going
- 1:33Speaker 2: to compete for a championship and that everything is sunshine
- 1:36Speaker 2: and Rose pedals here in Philadelphia's the other teams, you're
- 1:38Speaker 2: not having any problems, well whatsoever? It's fine.
- 1:43Speaker 1: I guess I confused you. I guess I confused everybody.
- 1:47Speaker 1: With the ticker on the bottom here the banner, I
- 1:49Speaker 1: should just put Philadelphia Union are great. That's what I
- 1:54Speaker 1: should put at this point. But I wanted to mention
- 1:56Speaker 1: that just because you know what, folks, there is something
- 1:58Speaker 1: good happening in the world of Philly sports, and that
- 2:00Speaker 1: is the Philadelphia Union at this point. But yes, we
- 2:02Speaker 1: do have to get into this Week five matchup between
- 2:06Speaker 1: the Broncos and the Eagles. On the injury front, landon
- 2:09Speaker 1: Dickerson going out with an angle ankle injury in the
- 2:12Speaker 1: first quarter. We know he's been nursing the back injury.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Grant Calcata went out with an oblique injury as well.
- 2:17Speaker 1: We're gonna be keeping tabs on what happens with these
- 2:18Speaker 1: two players over the course of this next week before
- 2:21Speaker 1: Week six. But let's start off with the themes. Buddy
- 2:24Speaker 1: look man coming into this game, the Eagles offense had
- 2:27Speaker 1: the highest rate of three and outs in the entire league.
- 2:31Speaker 1: They had two in the first half, and they had
- 2:35Speaker 1: a few in the second half as well. And interestingly enough,
- 2:39Speaker 1: the offensive play calling, I think, actually went how most
- 2:41Speaker 1: fans wanted it to go this week. Perhaps, I say
- 2:45Speaker 1: perhaps because before that final quote drive of the game
- 2:50Speaker 1: where the Eagles only basically had about you know, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 1: thirty seconds fifty seconds of the game to try to
- 2:56Speaker 1: win it, and we knew they weren't going to at
- 2:59Speaker 1: that point. Before that last drive, thirty three pass plays
- 3:02Speaker 1: to eleven rushing plays. Again, before that final drive of
- 3:07Speaker 1: the game, AJ Brown catching the ball more. He was
- 3:12Speaker 1: targeted eight times. He came down with five catches for
- 3:15Speaker 1: forty three yards. DeVante Smith targeted ten times, he came
- 3:18Speaker 1: down eight yards, I'm sorry, came down with eight balls
- 3:21Speaker 1: for one hundred and fourteen yards. Saquon Barkley had a touchdown.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard had a touchdown as well. Not a terrible
- 3:29Speaker 1: game for Jalen Hurts in terms of his numbers, but look,
- 3:34Speaker 1: this was an offensive failure, I think. Well, I hate
- 3:39Speaker 1: to use the word failure. Is it a failure with
- 3:41Speaker 1: what they did they win. You're absolutely correct, they did
- 3:45Speaker 1: not win. But my point here with this theme is
- 3:48Speaker 1: we wanted them to do something. They did it. We
- 3:51Speaker 1: did see success, but at the end of the day,
- 3:54Speaker 1: the offense faltered. They still faltered even after doing what
- 3:57Speaker 1: we wanted them to do. And after two of our
- 3:59Speaker 1: wide receivers duos, some of the best in the NFL
- 4:02Speaker 1: got more targets this week, came down with more balls.
- 4:04Speaker 1: It still wasn't enough. And that makes me wonder what
- 4:07Speaker 1: the hell is happening with this offense.
- 4:10Speaker 2: So I'm not going to pretend to be a football
- 4:14Speaker 2: genius here, but just because the fans want something, we
- 4:20Speaker 2: got it. It doesn't mean that it's still good. The
- 4:24Speaker 2: play calling is not good. The play calling results one
- 4:27Speaker 2: of three things on every single play. One it's going
- 4:30Speaker 2: to be a screen. Two it's going to be a
- 4:32Speaker 2: d pass, or three it's going to be a run play.
- 4:34Speaker 2: That's it. That is the playbook that the Philadelphia Eagles have.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It is the exact same offense as two years ago
- 4:41Speaker 2: when Nick Siriani was working with his buddy in calling
- 4:44Speaker 2: the plays. Yep, this is a problem. I don't understand
- 4:48Speaker 2: how anyone can tell me This is not a Jalen
- 4:51Speaker 2: Hurts issue, right, I'm not going to die on the
- 4:53Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts hill or whatever. We don't have a Jalen
- 4:55Speaker 2: Hurts issue. We have a quarterback who's executing the plays
- 4:59Speaker 2: that are call Absolutely the problem is the play calling
- 5:04Speaker 2: is horrendous. I think there's another little aspect to it,
- 5:09Speaker 2: which we're going to get into a little bit later.
- 5:13Speaker 2: I really am very concerned about the play calling on
- 5:18Speaker 2: this team. I don't think it's very good. I think
- 5:21Speaker 2: it's very predictable, and I think that's why for every
- 5:25Speaker 2: single game this year, there has been an entire half
- 5:29Speaker 2: where the Eagles offense has just disappeared. Jeff, we are
- 5:33Speaker 2: at Week five. They have not played a sixty minute
- 5:36Speaker 2: football game at all, even forty five minutes. They have
- 5:40Speaker 2: not been able to play a forty five minute football game.
- 5:44Speaker 2: They've gotten away with it, they've been winning, but at
- 5:48Speaker 2: some point it's time to pay the piper. Now. The
- 5:50Speaker 2: Broncos have a good defense, right Like, I'm not going
- 5:53Speaker 2: to say they have a terrible defense, but the amount
- 5:56Speaker 2: of money that is invested in the offensive side of
- 5:59Speaker 2: the ball, I don't want to hear anything about the
- 6:01Speaker 2: defense blew this game.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, before we hopped on, the Philadelphia Eagles through
- 6:06Speaker 3: the one PM game have scored enough points to be
- 6:10Speaker 3: two teams and to tie with the Cleveland Browns from
- 6:13Speaker 3: this morning.
- 6:14Speaker 2: That's it. And there is no team in the NFL
- 6:17Speaker 2: that has invested more money at multiple positions on the
- 6:21Speaker 2: offensive side of the ball. It's inexcusable. The play calling
- 6:26Speaker 2: is hard.
- 6:27Speaker 1: So it comes down to the play calling here, and
- 6:30Speaker 1: you know, every week, that's what we are talking about, Josh.
- 6:34Speaker 1: That's what we've been talking about every week on this
- 6:36Speaker 1: postgame podcast, is the play calling. And yes, I did
- 6:40Speaker 1: want to also bring up the penalties, penalties that were
- 6:42Speaker 1: self inflicted wounds. That is a theme of this game.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Penalties that were not called during this game. And I'm
- 6:50Speaker 1: somebody who has gotten away from the whole penalty aspect
- 6:53Speaker 1: of games when you know, I mean thanks to me,
- 6:57Speaker 1: thanks to you, and quite frankly thanks to lend too.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He would tell me, Jeff, shut up with the penalties,
- 7:02Speaker 1: would you. After so after years of doing I was like, okay,
- 7:05Speaker 1: we'll get away from the penalties. But it does go
- 7:09Speaker 1: to show that that penalties that are not called can
- 7:15Speaker 1: influence the course of the course of a game, not
- 7:19Speaker 1: necessarily the outcome the course of the game. Now, what
- 7:22Speaker 1: what was part of the outcome of the game was
- 7:24Speaker 1: Zach Bond making a horrendous decision to come in right
- 7:28Speaker 1: at the end of the game and get that personal
- 7:30Speaker 1: foul penalty. It was that was horrendous and he knows
- 7:33Speaker 1: better than that, he really does. Undisciplined predictability is what
- 7:38Speaker 1: you said, and it comes down to coaching at the
- 7:41Speaker 1: end of the day. That's what it's about.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think you know. So for me, Jeff, you know,
- 7:48Speaker 2: I've said it for I've probably done these for a
- 7:49Speaker 2: couple of years now on the postgame shows. I've said
- 7:54Speaker 2: officiating will never cost the game, and I stand by
- 7:57Speaker 2: that today. I'm sorry. The ego has had multiple opportunities.
- 8:01Speaker 2: There are bad calls every week. Guess what, Jeff, the
- 8:03Speaker 2: last four weeks there have been bad calls. Eagles have
- 8:07Speaker 2: won those games. So we can't say it costs them here,
- 8:10Speaker 2: but it doesn't cost them for four straight weeks. It
- 8:13Speaker 2: doesn't work that way. What I will say, there is
- 8:18Speaker 2: a very serious issue and this has been for weeks now,
- 8:22Speaker 2: and this has actually been during the next Sirianni tenure
- 8:25Speaker 2: and he is a Super Bowl winning coach, So I'm
- 8:27Speaker 2: not gonna go too hard in on this. They have
- 8:33Speaker 2: a discipline issue in the sense of cal Katara on
- 8:39Speaker 2: the first drive. I'm not even gonna talk about a penalty.
- 8:41Speaker 2: I'm going to talk about something else. That first in
- 8:44Speaker 2: completion from Jalen Hurts, I think it was his first
- 8:46Speaker 2: in completion. Cal Katerra stopped running on the route. It
- 8:49Speaker 2: wasn't a bad pass, it was a good pass. He
- 8:52Speaker 2: just decided to slow down on the route and then
- 8:53Speaker 2: was like, oh shoot, I gotta keep going undisciplined. How
- 8:58Speaker 2: many priests that penalties does this team have every week?
- 9:01Speaker 2: Every week? Saquon Barkley is a veteran of how many
- 9:05Speaker 2: years at this point, and he doesn't know how to
- 9:07Speaker 2: shift properly. How is this possible? And the reality is
- 9:11Speaker 2: with the offensive line, I don't know that we're going
- 9:14Speaker 2: to get the starters that we projected game one through
- 9:17Speaker 2: game seventeen to play a game together in its entirety,
- 9:21Speaker 2: I don't think it's going to happen. And the problem
- 9:23Speaker 2: is there are so many false starts, there are so
- 9:27Speaker 2: many ineligible players downfield. It's a mess. Absolutely, we don't
- 9:34Speaker 2: have a penalties problem. It's not officiating. The Eagles have
- 9:37Speaker 2: a penalties problem. It's not good even with yes, there
- 9:41Speaker 2: were bad calls today, but even with the one pass interference,
- 9:45Speaker 2: like on the radio they were saying before, it's not
- 9:49Speaker 2: pass interference because somebody was in the area. Do I
- 9:52Speaker 2: like the fact that the Broncos talked their way out
- 9:54Speaker 2: of a penalty, No, I don't. But the reality is
- 9:56Speaker 2: is that there was a receiver close enough that initially
- 9:59Speaker 2: even the Eagles this broadcast did not think that it
- 10:01Speaker 2: was a penalty. That's the reality. And you still had
- 10:04Speaker 2: third and six after that. What did you do after
- 10:07Speaker 2: that to prevent on a third and six? We're not
- 10:10Speaker 2: talking about third and one, third and six. You should
- 10:12Speaker 2: be able.
- 10:13Speaker 1: To stop that, absolutely, absolutely, Look, you make so many
- 10:18Speaker 1: great points here, you really do. And and the other
- 10:20Speaker 1: theme that I wanted to get into with regard to
- 10:22Speaker 1: the offense is this is the first game that we
- 10:25Speaker 1: have really seen Saquon Barkley making strides, making plays, whether
- 10:32Speaker 1: he is joking, whether he is real, whether he is
- 10:35Speaker 1: actually getting to the gaps that have been open for him.
- 10:39Speaker 1: He was getting to the holes and he was making plays.
- 10:43Speaker 1: In fact, he averaged five yards per carry, but he
- 10:48Speaker 1: had only thirty rushing yards in this game. They gave
- 10:51Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley the ball six times in this game. Josh
- 10:56Speaker 1: and I say to myself, Okay, you've got this weapon,
- 10:59Speaker 1: and you've won to get him going, because he was
- 11:02Speaker 1: coming into this game averaging three point one yards per
- 11:04Speaker 1: play or per carry. You actually have him with his
- 11:09Speaker 1: longest rush of the entire season, a seventeen yard play.
- 11:14Speaker 1: It was a toss left play in the first quarter.
- 11:16Speaker 1: It took Saquon Barkley from what the announcer said, seventy
- 11:19Speaker 1: nine plays for him to have that first explosive run
- 11:22Speaker 1: play of the season. And what did what did the
- 11:26Speaker 1: offensive coaching do? They said, Eh, We're just gonna give
- 11:30Speaker 1: you the ball six times this entire game. It goes
- 11:34Speaker 1: to what you're saying, the offensive coaching has been absolutely
- 11:38Speaker 1: horrendous through the first five weeks of this season. That
- 11:41Speaker 1: really has when you have Barkley, who who was in
- 11:45Speaker 1: that Whether it's a frame of mind, I don't necessarily
- 11:48Speaker 1: I think it's frame of mind, but whether he's at
- 11:50Speaker 1: that point now week five where he's ready to hit
- 11:53Speaker 1: these holes and the offensive line was opening up those
- 11:56Speaker 1: holes for him and you get away from it. That's horrible.
- 12:00Speaker 1: It's horrible coaching there, Josh, it really is. It was
- 12:02Speaker 1: really ticking me off throughout the game.
- 12:05Speaker 2: But Jeff, even more so, I don't believe correct me
- 12:08Speaker 2: if I'm wrong. I do not believe the Denver scored
- 12:11Speaker 2: out the first possession in the second half. I do
- 12:15Speaker 2: not know they did. So that means in the third quarter, right,
- 12:20Speaker 2: the third quarter, you have a two touchdown lead. Yes,
- 12:23Speaker 2: you have Sae Kwon Barkley, who, to your point, is
- 12:25Speaker 2: averaging over five yards of carry. Why in the world
- 12:29Speaker 2: are you calling screen passes where you have the opportunity
- 12:32Speaker 2: to have ineligible receivers downfield based off of RPOs. Why
- 12:36Speaker 2: in the world are you doing that run the ball like?
- 12:38Speaker 2: I don't I don't understand why this is this crazy thing.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Like if you look at her statline throwing thirty eight times,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you're going, well, surely they were trading trailing the whole game. Oh,
- 12:50Speaker 2: they were trailing the last basically two minutes of the game. Yep,
- 12:53Speaker 2: and he had thirty eight pass attempts. The guy, I'm
- 12:57Speaker 2: not a huge run the ball guy, but I when
- 13:00Speaker 2: you look at games sometimes sometimes you have to take
- 13:05Speaker 2: to advantage. And you and I were texting about this.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They bombed the ball down the field. Do you know
- 13:09Speaker 2: what that should do? Open things up for Saquon Barkley.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You had set the stage perfectly, yes, to be able
- 13:16Speaker 2: to do a run controlled clock and run out the clock.
- 13:20Speaker 2: There was no need to try to get fancy.
- 13:23Speaker 1: And we're not football experts here, like you said, we're
- 13:25Speaker 1: not coaches. We've never been coaching. We've been watching football
- 13:28Speaker 1: a lot in our lives. But we know this. We
- 13:33Speaker 1: know this.
- 13:34Speaker 2: I'm not anti screen passes. I thought that last week.
- 13:38Speaker 2: The ones to Goddard were very creative and great. The
- 13:42Speaker 2: problem is they're going back to Vanilla. We're gonna throw
- 13:46Speaker 2: it out to Smith and we're gonna see what happens. Yeah,
- 13:50Speaker 2: over and over again. And it's like, I get getting
- 13:53Speaker 2: them the ball, but why don't you give them a
- 13:55Speaker 2: little forward momentum because it's just not doing much.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I mean I think this game, at the
- 14:05Speaker 1: end of the day, was just bound to happen. From
- 14:07Speaker 1: what we saw the first four weeks of the season,
- 14:10Speaker 1: this was bound to happen. This team desperately, desperately needs
- 14:15Speaker 1: to go back to some sort of drawing board that
- 14:17Speaker 1: they have. Kevin Patulo needs to go back to something,
- 14:21Speaker 1: or Nick Siriani needs to provide some sort of offensive
- 14:24Speaker 1: leadership before this short week when they do have a
- 14:27Speaker 1: New York Giants team, a Giants team that's not all
- 14:29Speaker 1: that great, but anything is possible in this league. Anything
- 14:34Speaker 1: is possible. And I will say, you know, I do
- 14:36Speaker 1: give credit to the defense, and they were out on
- 14:39Speaker 1: the field for way too long during the fourth quarter
- 14:41Speaker 1: when Denver was able to put up eighteen total points.
- 14:45Speaker 1: But I will say this about the defense as another theme,
- 14:49Speaker 1: two sacks in this game. Eight quarterback hits five tackles
- 14:53Speaker 1: for a loss, but the two sacks, it just goes
- 14:56Speaker 1: to show that even though I thought this was the
- 14:59Speaker 1: defense is probably their best game of the season in
- 15:04Speaker 1: terms of the pass rush. They're not getting home. They're
- 15:09Speaker 1: not getting the sacks that they need to. How many
- 15:12Speaker 1: times should bow Nicks have probably been sacked, probably five
- 15:15Speaker 1: or six times. They are just not getting home. I
- 15:19Speaker 1: think at this point in the season as a team,
- 15:21Speaker 1: they have seven total sacks. I believe folks put in
- 15:25Speaker 1: the comments if you're watching on YouTube or shoot us
- 15:28Speaker 1: off an email about whether or not it's not seven saved,
- 15:31Speaker 1: but I think it's seven total sacks on the season
- 15:33Speaker 1: after five weeks of play. That's a problem.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Josh, Yeah, I mean I agree. But at the same time,
- 15:40Speaker 2: how much did they lose on defense last year the
- 15:42Speaker 2: free agency. Think I'm gonna quick go back to something
- 15:47Speaker 2: that you just said. I don't know that Patullo and
- 15:51Speaker 2: Nick can go back and figure things out. The most
- 15:54Speaker 2: explosive offense was last year's when Nick didn't have anything
- 15:59Speaker 2: to do with the defense. The worst offense that we've
- 16:02Speaker 2: seen was two years ago when Nick decided to get
- 16:05Speaker 2: more involved. I think Nick is a great head coach, right,
- 16:09Speaker 2: but I think at this point we have enough data
- 16:11Speaker 2: that shows maybe he's not the best at play calling
- 16:16Speaker 2: and drawing up plays, and that's okay. I would rather
- 16:19Speaker 2: have a great head coach who can delegate to other
- 16:24Speaker 2: areas with really good people. I have a really hard
- 16:28Speaker 2: time blaming the offense or the defense when the offense
- 16:31Speaker 2: is making three times as much money and has all
- 16:34Speaker 2: of these big contracts invested in it. The defense is
- 16:39Speaker 2: comprised of people that are either rookies or on rookie
- 16:42Speaker 2: deals because they spent so much money on the other
- 16:45Speaker 2: side of the ball, I applaud Vic Fangio for even
- 16:48Speaker 2: being able to have the defense at mediocrity and they're
- 16:53Speaker 2: well above that.
- 16:54Speaker 1: Like, it's a great point.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Is I trust Fangio to be able to go and
- 16:58Speaker 2: make changes because he's seen that. But do I love
- 17:03Speaker 2: the past rush? Not necessarily, But I think some teams
- 17:07Speaker 2: may just be adjusting to Vic Fangio and he's got
- 17:09Speaker 2: to just and I trust him to do that. The
- 17:11Speaker 2: offense I do not.
- 17:13Speaker 1: All right, buddy, do you have any other themes here?
- 17:15Speaker 1: Before we go to a quick break and then we'll
- 17:17Speaker 1: get back and then we'll do the grades. Do you
- 17:19Speaker 1: have any other themes?
- 17:21Speaker 2: Philadelphia sports is pain. That's my main pain.
- 17:26Speaker 1: It's so true, it really is. It's painful, folks, painful
- 17:30Speaker 1: Philadelphia Phillies, Philadelphia Eagles. My goodness. Well, we got the
- 17:34Speaker 1: Flyers coming up. Let's see what happens with them. We
- 17:36Speaker 1: got our Flyer season preview coming this week. Yes, Josh
- 17:42Speaker 1: just put up his fist for all of you listening there.
- 17:44Speaker 1: All right, Well, folks, if you're watching on YouTube, like

- 18:14Speaker 1: We're gonna pay some bills. When we get back, we're
- 18:16Speaker 1: gonna get into the grades. We're gonna grade each unit,
- 18:18Speaker 1: and the coaching stick with us. All right, we are
- 18:22Speaker 1: back with our good buddy Josh Schuster from Philadelphia soccernow
- 18:26Speaker 1: dot com, and let's grade this Philadelphia Eagles team by
- 18:30Speaker 1: unit and then the coaches. Jalen Hurts this week, I'm
- 18:34Speaker 1: actually gonna give him. I'm gonna give him an a minus.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I think he and it goes to what you were
- 18:39Speaker 1: saying earlier. It could be a B plus, but I'm
- 18:41Speaker 1: gonna give him an a minus. I believe he was
- 18:43Speaker 1: asked to do certain things in this game, and he
- 18:46Speaker 1: did them. You know, not perfect by any stretch. That's
- 18:49Speaker 1: where minus comes from. But a minus. You do look
- 18:52Speaker 1: at the stats and It's twenty three to thirty eight,
- 18:55Speaker 1: two hundred and eighty yards, seven point four yards per attempt,
- 18:59Speaker 1: two touchdowns, and he ended with a rating of one
- 19:01Speaker 1: hundred point eight. That's what you want from your quarterback
- 19:04Speaker 1: in a lot of ways from week to week. And
- 19:07Speaker 1: he was asked to do what he was asked to
- 19:09Speaker 1: do this week, so and he did it. So I'm
- 19:12Speaker 1: gonna give him a minus. What do you give Hurts?
- 19:14Speaker 2: I'm gonna give him an A. I'm gonna give him
- 19:18Speaker 2: a notch bubb. I guess even the last throw of
- 19:20Speaker 2: the game, right, like the Hail Mary that he throws,
- 19:25Speaker 2: you have three Eagles wide receivers right there and they
- 19:29Speaker 2: couldn't make play. I'm not to me. This game is
- 19:32Speaker 2: not on Jalen Hurts. And I think that if you
- 19:36Speaker 2: are trying to blame him, I really question your football knowledge.
- 19:41Speaker 2: I think he's really just doing I think he's handcuffed
- 19:43Speaker 2: by the play calling. We don't even see him scrambling
- 19:47Speaker 2: much anymore.
- 19:47Speaker 1: We don't.
- 19:48Speaker 2: We don't other than those predictable QB draws. I mean,
- 19:52Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe they don't trust him. I don't know.
- 19:55Speaker 2: I'm not going beyond that speculation. In terms of this grade,
- 19:58Speaker 2: he gets an A. He was doing what he was told.
- 20:01Speaker 1: It's bizarre when you look at the rushing in the
- 20:04Speaker 1: box score. Jalen Hurts only had two for three yards.
- 20:08Speaker 1: He was his legs were nowhere to be found today.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Very good, very good point. So let's move to the
- 20:13Speaker 1: running backs. Saquon Barkley, as I mentioned earlier, six carries
- 20:17Speaker 1: for thirty yards. He averaged five yards per carry. Yeah.
- 20:20Speaker 1: They brought in aj Dillon two carries on the day
- 20:23Speaker 1: for twelve yards. He averaged six yards per carry. Will
- 20:26Speaker 1: Shipley only had one carry and he did not get
- 20:29Speaker 1: any yards on that. I mean, I gotta say that
- 20:32Speaker 1: the running backs did what they needed to do as well. Again,
- 20:36Speaker 1: came down to play call. I mean I give that.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I give him an a minus. What do you give him?
- 20:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm I'm going to give him an a minus
- 20:44Speaker 2: simply because I had to watch Will Shipley for years
- 20:47Speaker 2: kill me as a South Carolina fan when he was Yes,
- 20:51Speaker 2: I still I'm very bitter about that. So the fact
- 20:53Speaker 2: that he had to carry and got nothing the whole
- 20:55Speaker 2: running back room gets an a minus for me. But yeah,
- 20:58Speaker 2: I mean they did what they were asked to do
- 21:02Speaker 2: and did it well, and I just don't understand the
- 21:05Speaker 2: play calling.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Yep, yep. Well, let's move over to the wide receivers
- 21:09Speaker 1: here again. As I mentioned before the break, Davonte Smith
- 21:12Speaker 1: was targeted ten times, came down with eight balls for
- 21:14Speaker 1: one hundred and fourteen yards. Sakwan Barkley was targeted three times,
- 21:18Speaker 1: caught all those balls for fifty eight yards. We certainly
- 21:21Speaker 1: were excited when we saw that forty seven yard wheel route.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Basically it turned into a touchdown. He averaged nineteen point
- 21:29Speaker 1: three yards per reception, mainly because of that. Aj Brown
- 21:33Speaker 1: was targeted eight times, came down with five balls for
- 21:35Speaker 1: forty three yards. And then you got Johan Dottson being
- 21:38Speaker 1: targeted three times for and he only came down one
- 21:41Speaker 1: ball for twenty four yards. But look at this, Dallas Goddard,
- 21:44Speaker 1: a lot of dunkin and duncan to Dallas Goddard nine
- 21:47Speaker 1: targets today, came down with three balls for nineteen yards,
- 21:51Speaker 1: got it. Averaged six point three yards per reception and
- 21:54Speaker 1: one touchdown. Grant Calcatara had two targets. Will Shipley had
- 21:58Speaker 1: two targets. Not too much else to mention about those
- 22:01Speaker 1: two guys, but the wide receivers this week. I'm going
- 22:04Speaker 1: to give them a B plus. There were certain aspects,
- 22:07Speaker 1: whether it was Aj Brown kind of slowing down on
- 22:10Speaker 1: that route you mentioned gran Cal Katara slowing down on
- 22:13Speaker 1: that route that he had in the first quarter. I
- 22:16Speaker 1: think the wide receivers could have gotten a little bit
- 22:18Speaker 1: more separation perhaps for Jalen to get him the ball
- 22:21Speaker 1: in certain critical times during the game, and they didn't
- 22:24Speaker 1: get it done. I'm gonna give him a B plus.
- 22:26Speaker 1: What do you give the wide receivers.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Yeah, about the same, except for one thing. This grade
- 22:30Speaker 2: will slide up to an A if I get another
- 22:33Speaker 2: cryptic social media post from Aj Brown. I need a
- 22:37Speaker 2: distraction from pain right now. I need some philosopher's quote
- 22:43Speaker 2: or something like that, where you know sports talk can
- 22:45Speaker 2: run wild or sorry, I guess four days because they
- 22:49Speaker 2: play on Thursday.
- 22:50Speaker 1: Yes, all right, sounds good, but all right? Offensive line,
- 22:56Speaker 1: oh yo YOI I mean it was kind of all
- 22:59Speaker 1: over the place. It was certainly not not what we saw.
- 23:01Speaker 1: I mean when Landon Dickerson went out, Man, he is
- 23:04Speaker 1: so important to this line.
- 23:05Speaker 2: He really is, but he's not when he's not healthy.
- 23:08Speaker 1: That is true.
- 23:09Speaker 2: That absolutely is not healthy. Right now and has not
- 23:12Speaker 2: been and is having a very bad season.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Yep, Jordan Mylotta was getting beat up today too. I
- 23:17Speaker 1: mean his those defensive ends were getting into the backfield,
- 23:20Speaker 1: he was. He was having a tough game as well.
- 23:22Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the offensive line this week a se. Actually,
- 23:25Speaker 1: what do you give him?
- 23:27Speaker 2: Yeah? I think part of the reason, Jeff, why are
- 23:30Speaker 2: grade is a CE is because we've seen such great
- 23:33Speaker 2: offensive play offensive line play for years. Probably if if
- 23:39Speaker 2: you ask like Giants fans about the Eagles performance, they
- 23:43Speaker 2: probably be like, yeah, a minus from the offensive line. Hey,
- 23:46Speaker 2: you get sacked every play, but yeah, I would say
- 23:49Speaker 2: by Eagles standard, We'll go with the sea.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Okay, Like I said, six sacks on Jalen Hurts today,
- 23:55Speaker 1: get getting a little tired of this.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Some of them he did run into like to be
- 23:59Speaker 2: fairy true. Very yes, So I think c is fair.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Okay, Let's move over to the defensive side of the ball.
- 24:07Speaker 1: The defensive line. Like I mentioned earlier, I think this defense,
- 24:10Speaker 1: defensive front in general, had the best their best game
- 24:14Speaker 1: of the season. Just are not able to get home
- 24:17Speaker 1: two sacks on the day, eight quarterback hits. I'm gonna
- 24:21Speaker 1: give the I'm gonna give the the defensive line. I'm
- 24:25Speaker 1: gonna give them a B plus this week. What do
- 24:26Speaker 1: you give them?
- 24:28Speaker 2: I'm actually gonna give him a C minus because one
- 24:30Speaker 2: of the sacks came from the linebackers, yes, so I
- 24:33Speaker 2: can't really attribute that to the defensive line, so I
- 24:37Speaker 2: would say C minus. And if they can start turning
- 24:41Speaker 2: some of these pressures into sacks, yeah, things things will
- 24:44Speaker 2: turn around and I'll give them a higher grade, but
- 24:46Speaker 2: C minus.
- 24:47Speaker 1: You know what, I'm going down to a B simply
- 24:49Speaker 1: because I'm remembering now how Jalen Carter fell for that
- 24:53Speaker 1: trick fourth down play in the first quarter that gave
- 24:56Speaker 1: the Broncos the first down where he jumped off sides.
- 24:58Speaker 1: That's just a lack of discipline. I'm actually going down
- 25:01Speaker 1: to a B just because of that right there. It
- 25:03Speaker 1: goes to what we're talking about, like a lack of
- 25:05Speaker 1: discipline sometimes with this team every now and again. You know,
- 25:08Speaker 1: he didn't spit on anybody, thankfully in this game, but
- 25:11Speaker 1: still there's lack of discipline, you know, yep, all right,
- 25:15Speaker 1: the linebackers in this game, I'm gonna give them a
- 25:18Speaker 1: B plus. Overall, it probably would have been an a.
- 25:20Speaker 1: What was Zach Bond and his crappy decision making at
- 25:24Speaker 1: the end of the game. That that's going down for
- 25:26Speaker 1: me because it really did. It really did hurt the
- 25:28Speaker 1: team in in you know, rate rate in a spot
- 25:32Speaker 1: where they didn't need that. So I'm gonna I'm gonna
- 25:34Speaker 1: give him a B plus. What do you give them?
- 25:37Speaker 2: I think B plus is fair And I think part
- 25:38Speaker 2: of this grade is based off of, again the linebacker
- 25:41Speaker 2: play that we've seen for so many years here in
- 25:43Speaker 2: Philadelphia that's been an atrocity. I mean, if you you
- 25:46Speaker 2: look at the last two drives of the Broncos, I
- 25:49Speaker 2: mean they have players just wide open in the middle
- 25:51Speaker 2: of the field. Yeah, the linebackers really struggled in the
- 25:55Speaker 2: second half with coverage, But overall, I would say B plus,
- 25:59Speaker 2: but I lean towards that grade being that way because
- 26:02Speaker 2: of previous linebacker play.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, Courtland Sutton. As we move over to the
- 26:09Speaker 1: secondary and grading the secondary, Courtland Sutton really had himself
- 26:12Speaker 1: a day of ninety nine yards on ten targets, the
- 26:15Speaker 1: average twelve point four yards per reception. You say, okay,
- 26:20Speaker 1: you know he didn't even hit one hundred yards, but
- 26:22Speaker 1: he was really eating in the fourth quarter. Get he
- 26:25Speaker 1: was it was he was getting the best of Quinnon
- 26:27Speaker 1: Mitchell every now and again, and Quinnon was doing such
- 26:31Speaker 1: a fantastic job with him all game. But it gets
- 26:34Speaker 1: to the point where your defense is tired. They're out
- 26:36Speaker 1: on the field because your offense can't do anything. I
- 26:39Speaker 1: think the secondary in general, while they didn't have the
- 26:42Speaker 1: greatest game in the world, I thought they stepped up
- 26:45Speaker 1: in big moments as well. I'm actually gonna give the
- 26:48Speaker 1: secondary a B plus this week. What do you give them?
- 26:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna give him C plus three plus. Okay,
- 26:54Speaker 2: my grade is mostly based on Quintanamo Bay. To me
- 26:59Speaker 2: when on that third and six play, I'm sorry you're
- 27:02Speaker 2: playing up on him. You I think you are a
- 27:05Speaker 2: better player than Courtland Sudon. You need to make a
- 27:07Speaker 2: play man like I I keep hearing top corner, great corner,
- 27:12Speaker 2: elite corner, elite corners make that play. He didn't, And
- 27:16Speaker 2: so for me, I mean, I've been I think we
- 27:18Speaker 2: both can agree. I have been pretty easy going on
- 27:21Speaker 2: the defense here. But for me, they had the chance
- 27:24Speaker 2: after a bad call to be able to make a
- 27:26Speaker 2: play and Quentin Mitchell didn't. So you know what, you're
- 27:30Speaker 2: gonna get I'll say.
- 27:31Speaker 1: C minus, okay, C minus all right? Yeah, wow, I
- 27:35Speaker 1: was at a BP.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I was getting more angry as I talk about it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: You really are, I can tell, Oh my gosh, I
- 27:39Speaker 1: can tell all right, we got to get to special
- 27:41Speaker 1: teams now, because I'll tell you right now. You know
- 27:44Speaker 1: we've seen some great stuff from special teams this year.
- 27:47Speaker 1: And look, I enjoyed watching h Johan Dotson's punt return
- 27:51Speaker 1: towards the end of the third quarter put the Eagles
- 27:53Speaker 1: in really good field position. But you know that they
- 27:56Speaker 1: blew that. They ended up pla. I was just gonna say, yeah,
- 27:58Speaker 1: they completely wandered that. Braden Man averaged fifty I'm sorry,
- 28:03Speaker 1: fifty one point three yards per punt two touchbacks, which
- 28:08Speaker 1: really did stink. Jake Elliott had a fine day at
- 28:12Speaker 1: one field goal of thirty one yards, made both of
- 28:14Speaker 1: his extra points, and not much really to write home
- 28:19Speaker 1: about in terms of the kick returns. Yes, Will Shipley
- 28:21Speaker 1: did have a thirty seven yard or but still special
- 28:24Speaker 1: team's pretty average this week. So I'm just gonna give
- 28:27Speaker 1: him a straight up B. What do you give him?
- 28:30Speaker 2: Well, they didn't score any points, so obviously it's an
- 28:32Speaker 2: F after the last couple of weeks. Now, I would
- 28:35Speaker 2: say I'd give him a bee. I think they did good.
- 28:38Speaker 2: I think there were great I think there were some
- 28:40Speaker 2: really great returns, some got taken back by holding the one.
- 28:43Speaker 2: The offense just completely blew considering especially what we were
- 28:47Speaker 2: looking at from Was it last week or the week
- 28:50Speaker 2: before where they couldn't even field a kickoff or a punt?
- 28:54Speaker 1: Yes, it was right after they got Tank Bigsby too,
- 28:56Speaker 1: and Tank Bigsby was like, I've never held a football
- 28:58Speaker 1: before all.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I wish you could see Jeff's Jess respond.
- 29:04Speaker 1: You watch on YouTube. You can, folks.
- 29:06Speaker 2: There you go, I'll plug for YouTube. Yeah, I would
- 29:10Speaker 2: say B. I mean, I really think that the special
- 29:13Speaker 2: teams did really the best they can and I don't
- 29:15Speaker 2: think it's fair to expect a block field goal kick
- 29:19Speaker 2: return all this craziness that has happened this year for them.
- 29:23Speaker 1: So all right, Vic Fangio his coaching this week, I'm
- 29:27Speaker 1: going to give him a straight up B. What do
- 29:30Speaker 1: you give Vic Fangio this week?
- 29:32Speaker 2: I'm going to give him an a minus? Like if
- 29:34Speaker 2: he if you in twenty twenty five, if you hold
- 29:37Speaker 2: a team and I saw people calling Bonicks trash on Twitter.
- 29:42Speaker 2: I'm sorry, he's he He is an NFL quarterback who's
- 29:46Speaker 2: probably gonna have a pretty good career if you can
- 29:49Speaker 2: hold Bonnicks to twenty one points in twenty twenty five. Yeah, sorry,
- 29:56Speaker 2: I'm going to give him an a minus.
- 29:57Speaker 1: Look, bon Knicks almost threw forty pounds. He was twenty
- 30:01Speaker 1: four of thirty nine, two hundred and forty two yards,
- 30:04Speaker 1: He averaged six point two yards per attempt, and he
- 30:07Speaker 1: had a touchdown. He ended with a rating of eighty
- 30:09Speaker 1: seven point eight. Yeah. If you look at the quarterback
- 30:12Speaker 1: duel here, Jalen Hurts is the winner of that quarterback duel.
- 30:16Speaker 1: But bo Nixon is what's second year here? Not bad
- 30:20Speaker 1: that those are not bad numbers, and it's not bad
- 30:22Speaker 1: what he did with this team. He was able to deliver.
- 30:26Speaker 1: He was able to deliver the offensive vision that the
- 30:29Speaker 1: Denver Broncos had more than the Eagles offense was able
- 30:32Speaker 1: to deliver whatever quote vision that the Eagles offensive coordinators had.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So I give him credit.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna give also give Vic a pass on
- 30:43Speaker 2: the final three points. Yeah, like really, they held the
- 30:46Speaker 2: Broncos to eighteen points, They held them less than twenty
- 30:49Speaker 2: points and the offense could not do anything, so they
- 30:53Speaker 2: got the ball back they got Sorry, it really is
- 30:56Speaker 2: eighteen points. I'm not too upset, and.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I'm gonna give the offensive coaching this week, the offensive
- 31:01Speaker 1: coaching of Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patulo, they're gonna get
- 31:05Speaker 1: a D from me. I think that's absolutely the right
- 31:09Speaker 1: grade because, look, there were some good things we saw,
- 31:13Speaker 1: but again, you know, go back to the top of
- 31:16Speaker 1: what we were talking about. They just weren't able. It's
- 31:20Speaker 1: just predictable. You get a D when you're a predictable offense.
- 31:23Speaker 1: You just do so you lose, yes, and you lose.
- 31:26Speaker 1: What do you give them? What grade?
- 31:28Speaker 2: No, I give him a D?
- 31:29Speaker 1: Give me D.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that we started off like B plus level.
- 31:34Speaker 2: In the second half it was an AS I mean
- 31:36Speaker 2: it was it was an F. So I'll I'll give
- 31:38Speaker 2: him a D. And I feel like that's pretty generous
- 31:41Speaker 2: considering how predictable everything tell you.
- 31:44Speaker 1: These tail of two halves here every week. It's really
- 31:47Speaker 1: enraging and the fact that this team is four and one.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It's the offense. It's really the offense just cannot even
- 31:55Speaker 2: play forty five minutes like I just don't get it.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Ah, I know again the Philadelphia Union are our saviors
- 32:06Speaker 1: this weekend, thank goodness, Oh my goodness, yes, right again
- 32:11Speaker 1: he is Josh Schuster. Folks from Philadelphia Soccer Now dot com.
- 32:15Speaker 1: We love going over and visiting that website. A lot
- 32:17Speaker 1: of great content over there again, Philadelphia soccernow dot com.
- 32:20Speaker 1: Any final thoughts, buddy, before I let you go here
- 32:23Speaker 1: and before we look towards the New York Giants matchup
- 32:28Speaker 1: this Thursday night.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Yeah, non none Eagles related. Philadelphia Soccer Now is gonna
- 32:34Speaker 2: be putting out some good content with the playoffs starting
- 32:36Speaker 2: here for the Unions, so I want to make sure
- 32:38Speaker 2: I give them a plug.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Uh.
- 32:41Speaker 2: There's a lot of really great writers and most most
- 32:44Speaker 2: of them do this volunteer wise. They're really great writers
- 32:48Speaker 2: and they put out really great stuff. So maybe you
- 32:51Speaker 2: after after last night and today, you want to follow
- 32:54Speaker 2: a winner and you're desperate to watch something winning, feel
- 32:58Speaker 2: free to check that out and learn a little bit
- 33:00Speaker 2: more about the team. But the last twenty four hours,
- 33:05Speaker 2: as as a parent of eight year old who is
- 33:09Speaker 2: really getting into Philly sports, I now after having to
- 33:15Speaker 2: tell him this morning when he went to bed that
- 33:17Speaker 2: the Phillies were up three to nothing when he went
- 33:20Speaker 2: to bed that they lost this morning, and watched his
- 33:22Speaker 2: heart be completely crushed, brutal, and then dropping him off
- 33:27Speaker 2: at home before coming back here for some meetings and stuff,
- 33:30Speaker 2: and the Eagles were winning. And now I get to
- 33:33Speaker 2: go back home and tell him no, they lost, and
- 33:35Speaker 2: see my crushed eight year old's face again. It's the worst.
- 33:39Speaker 1: It's brutal.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Great, and I can't wait. Eagles come on.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Week five or Week six against the New York Giants.
- 33:49Speaker 1: We're hoping for different results, folks, and we're certainly going
- 33:52Speaker 1: to have our Eagles postgame podcast show after that game
- 33:55Speaker 1: as well. He is Josh Houst again from Philadelphia Soccer
- 33:58Speaker 1: Now dot com. I'm Jeff Warren again in the Philadelphia
- 34:00Speaker 1: Eagles losing Week five here the twenty twenty five twenty
- 34:04Speaker 1: twenty six season two the Denver Broncos at the Link
- 34:07Speaker 1: by a score of twenty one to seventeen. That's gonna
- 34:10Speaker 1: do it for us, everybody. We will catch you next time.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Take care
