- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. I just want it on
- 0:04Speaker 1: record before I get into the day of today that
- 0:07Speaker 1: for the first time since this podcast started as a
- 0:11Speaker 1: radio show at Queen's College, which was two thousand and nine,
- 0:15Speaker 1: I can say the Yankees have beaten the Red Sox
- 0:19Speaker 1: in the postseason. I didn't get to do that in
- 0:22Speaker 1: twenty eighteen or twenty twenty one, and there weren't many
- 0:25Speaker 1: other times at the Queen's College era. But today on
- 0:29Speaker 1: Onely Up Alex Sports, I can say it that the
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yankees beat the Red Sox. Was it personal? Hell? Yet,
- 0:35Speaker 1: it's personal, and you can read about it at my
- 0:38Speaker 1: blog One Look Up Alex how I thought I was
- 0:42Speaker 1: responsible for losing the World Series and the aos as
- 0:45Speaker 1: in two thousand four because I didn't turn off my TV. Hell, yes,
- 0:49Speaker 1: it's personal, because I went on Regis philp in the
- 0:51Speaker 1: last time the Yankees won against the Red Sox in
- 0:54Speaker 1: the postseason. After boons Homer and I get to tell
- 0:57Speaker 1: the tale of twenty twenty five and say I've survived
- 1:01Speaker 1: and lived twenty two years more to see the day.
- 1:05Speaker 1: This is a generational moment for Little Alex and Big Alex,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and I just want to say someone that did not
- 1:13Speaker 1: get his flowers yet. Beyond the incredible start of Cam Slitler,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the record breaking start of Kam Slitler, the rookie who
- 1:23Speaker 1: just started Opening Day for summrset earlier this season was
- 1:26Speaker 1: arguably the call of the year. But come on, where
- 1:30Speaker 1: are the flowers for Ahmed Rosario, the most unlikely guy.
- 1:36Speaker 1: No offense on it, but it was unlikely for him
- 1:38Speaker 1: to come up in that situation and do a basic
- 1:41Speaker 1: inter left field to start the scoring of that forerun inning.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Where are his flowers today? Because he deserves a hell
- 1:50Speaker 1: of a lot of credit for battling it out in
- 1:53Speaker 1: that a bet and then forgetting that single through the
- 1:56Speaker 1: hole on the left side. This next series has me nervous,
- 2:03Speaker 1: But I think last night there was a hope for
- 2:06Speaker 1: the years to come. I mean, can you imagine Cole
- 2:12Speaker 1: Schlittler rot Don Freed, not in that order, but that
- 2:15Speaker 1: rotation alone. Heal, it's gonna be a start starting rotation
- 2:20Speaker 1: in twenty twenty six. However, there is this feeling of
- 2:26Speaker 1: unfinished business here in the postseason. Now that we got
- 2:31Speaker 1: overcame Boston for the first time in twenty two years.
- 2:35Speaker 1: There's unfinished business. And we're gonna cover that unfinished business
- 2:39Speaker 1: here on one leg a Ballex Sports with insights, with friends,
- 2:42Speaker 1: with fans, and maybe even some journalists along the way.
- 2:47Speaker 1: As now, the Yankees have had karmic relief. Love you
- 2:52Speaker 1: An Shelley, miss you, love my Dad. This is the
- 2:54Speaker 1: first time since in twenty two years when my dad
- 2:58Speaker 1: was here when we went to re He's just been
- 3:00Speaker 1: filled with my mom and twenty two years ago. I
- 3:04Speaker 1: know he's not here to see it physically, but I
- 3:06Speaker 1: feel like he's up in the heavens watching down on
- 3:09Speaker 1: all of this, including the Cobs winning their first postseason
- 3:12Speaker 1: series in quite a while, in first one since my
- 3:16Speaker 1: dad passed. So there's a lot of emotions for me,
- 3:20Speaker 1: and I want to put it out there because I
- 3:22Speaker 1: feel like I'm wearing on my sleeve off the air,
- 3:24Speaker 1: but on the air, I'm fired up. And I can say,
- 3:27Speaker 1: for the first time since my exis inception of this
- 3:30Speaker 1: podcast when it was the Sports Hour, the Yankees have
- 3:34Speaker 1: beaten the Red Sox. The rivalry fields renewed now and
- 3:39Speaker 1: I want to face them on a hell of a
- 3:40Speaker 1: lot more in the postseason and beat them again. And
- 3:44Speaker 1: it also leaves us wondering what's next, because like Boston
- 3:48Speaker 1: went Toronto, we didn't have their number either all year.
- 3:50Speaker 1: In fact, there were five crucial losses against the Blue
- 3:53Speaker 1: Jays that I could say cost us the division. Yet
- 3:57Speaker 1: here we are hating the divisional round against Toronto to
- 4:03Speaker 1: exact that revenge next, Can we do it? I'm a
- 4:07Speaker 1: little nervous, but I think we're riding high, and I
- 4:10Speaker 1: think the fact that we play Saturday and the momentum
- 4:12Speaker 1: is carrying us gives me hope that we can have
- 4:16Speaker 1: one leg up in this postseason, even further than a
- 4:22Speaker 1: historic snapping of a twenty two year drought against the
- 4:25Speaker 1: Red Sox and a historic rookie performance twelve strikeouts, breaking
- 4:33Speaker 1: the rookie record for postseason strikeouts. He is the slit
- 4:41Speaker 1: and he has been the slit. And if you look
- 4:43Speaker 1: at his totals from his regular season in postseason, ninety
- 4:47Speaker 1: two strikeouts, ninety two strikeouts, first rookie year, and he
- 4:52Speaker 1: even come up to begin the season. That's what makes
- 4:55Speaker 1: us more special. And now I think the rosters getting
- 5:00Speaker 1: a little bit in this festive five, three out of five,
- 5:02Speaker 1: so we'll see who they call up. But I think
- 5:05Speaker 1: one thing that Boone learned the series. Trust your pictures
- 5:10Speaker 1: like you did with Roddan and and Cam last night,
- 5:14Speaker 1: Cam went eight, Rodin going six or seven. And also
- 5:20Speaker 1: trust that lineup against lefty or alrighty. That Tran Grisham
- 5:24Speaker 1: lead lineup is the lineup to go with. I don't
- 5:28Speaker 1: care who's on the mound for the uh, you know,
- 5:31Speaker 1: for the opponent righty versus lefty. I don't care about that.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Just get us w's. Just put Ben Rice in there,
- 5:37Speaker 1: just put Jazz chishm in there. Let fing go. It's
- 5:46Speaker 1: hard to celebrate entirely this wild card round because it's
- 5:49Speaker 1: only the wild Card series, but it's sentimental. It means
- 5:53Speaker 1: a lot. I've taken it personally, and I can feel
- 5:57Speaker 1: like that twelve year old that was to watch the
- 6:00Speaker 1: Red Sox O four and forced to watch the laboratories
- 6:04Speaker 1: his fly ball left fall short in twenty eighteen. Healed today,
- 6:11Speaker 1: and I think the Yanks can go about their business
- 6:16Speaker 1: as they've just had karmic relief. And it's only the
- 6:20Speaker 1: beginning of October. Let's extend this a little further into October. Kevin,
- 6:25Speaker 1: Let's have one leg up on this postseason for the
- 6:29Speaker 1: Yankees twenty five roster, who I've said since May looks
- 6:33Speaker 1: like two thousand and nine. I have felt it. They're gutty,
- 6:37Speaker 1: they're gutsy there they've had their tough times too, but
- 6:40Speaker 1: they've overcome that. And now they can head into Toronto
- 6:48Speaker 1: with some momentum and maybe I'll take a split in
- 6:52Speaker 1: Toronto and two here. However, it's gotta get done. I
- 6:56Speaker 1: feel it. And if we can overcome Toronto, whoh, the
- 7:01Speaker 1: possibilities become even more endless, don't they. So come on, Yanks,
- 7:05Speaker 1: come on, boone, trust your gut, trust your instinct. Let's
- 7:07Speaker 1: do this. Let's get one leg up even more in
- 7:15Speaker 1: post season twenty twenty five h
