- 0:09>> All right, I'm going to apologize now. I'm a little hung over, so I may not be
- 0:14super heavy tonight. We'll see how we go. >> All right, I've been partying.
- 0:19>> I just drank far too much. I wasn't really partying. I don't know why I do
- 0:23it. [laughter] >> I'm fine drinking by myself. You put me
- 0:27with a lot of people and I have to drink more. >> I see. >> I drink by myself.
- 0:32>> Yeah. I mean, that's pretty normal. When you drink socially, you drink more, right?
- 0:37>> Yeah. >> Isn't that when to stop when I'm drinking by myself? >> Yeah. Yeah.
- 0:43>> I stop way way earlier. >> Yeah. Well, >> that's right.
- 0:50>> That's cuz you need to be able to still hold your Xbox controller. H
- 0:55cuz now I've just lost a day of Xbox. >> I don't know. [clears throat] You've
- 0:59been sick. You've been drunk. What are you doing, mate?
- 1:02>> I don't know. What am I doing with my life? >> Who knows? Well, what's been happening
- 1:07this week? Anything interesting? >> Um, I did read one article that really annoyed me.
- 1:13>> Go on then. >> It's me being upset also at Sony, but
- 1:18also Microsoft. >> Oh, excellent. So remember you had this whole little
- 1:24thing with tariffs of being on everything. >> Well, I I didn't I mean I I I dealt with
- 1:30it, but I didn't you know don't don't make it sound like it was my fault,
- 1:34mate. I had nothing to do >> when the went to court and the judge said, "Look, not legal."
- 1:40>> Yeah. No, you're not do that. Yeah. >> And they refunded all the money. >> Mhm.
- 1:44>> To the companies. >> Mhm. And the companies are going, "Well,
- 1:48thank you, but we don't think we should have to pass that along to people who
- 1:52paid us that money." >> Thanks. >> And I just
- 1:59>> Yeah, I don't like their argument. [gasps and sighs]
- 2:04>> I mean, the argument is seem Let me guess, right, their argument is because
- 2:07this I mean this is true. >> You agreed to pay that much.
- 2:12>> Yeah, you were happy to pay that. So >> yeah, >> what's the problem?
- 2:16>> I mean, that was that Yeah, there that was the price and you paid the price. I
- 2:21mean, I I don't like it either. I feel like that's very like
- 2:27>> it's on the nose because it's like, you know, come on. We're all Everybody was
- 2:31talking about how it was [ __ ] and no one wanted to pay it. No, but
- 2:34>> you can't pretend it was just like normal. But >> I also like the fact it's also to
- 2:40>> and people are willing to pay this amount, are they? Well, they did.
- 2:46>> So, why don't we just >> leave the price there for a bit? >> Yeah.
- 2:52>> Yeah. I know. I feel like it's like >> it's a gesture of goodwill. They could
- 2:56refund it and I think it would would do a lot for them, but I also think I mean,
- 3:02yes, legally, >> yeah, >> if you want they probably don't have to
- 3:06because yes, they they said tariffs here, the price of X is 10 bucks more or
- 3:10whatever. Yeah, you paid the 10 more and then the tariffs were like, "Well,
- 3:14okay." But that was the price at the time. >> Yeah. We didn't have an option.
- 3:18>> Yeah. So, I don't know. >> Would you have preferred us to not buy
- 3:23your product during that period? >> No, they wouldn't, but you you'd still
- 3:28have the money if you didn't. [laughter] >> Yeah. I just really think it' just be
- 3:31sort of a pretty great gesture to go, look, we're going to do something with it.
- 3:35>> I agree. I think it's Yeah, I think it's a bit shitty, but I also can see I mean
- 3:40their argument is not wrong. >> No, >> but it's just I just don't like it. >> Yeah,
- 3:44>> you know. Yeah. >> So, that's why I'm upset even with Microsoft.
- 3:50>> Microsoft needs the money apparently. Yes. So, yeah, they're they're scraping
- 3:55things back together. >> I do like in this article they do talk
- 3:58about like some smaller places that are No, we're we're refunding and doing all
- 4:03this. No, you're doing that because that's good marketing for you now. >> Yes.
- 4:08>> Yes. They need the goodwill. >> Like [clears throat] you're a small
- 4:11company, so this looks great. They're a big company.
- 4:15>> You're still going to buy their product. >> Yes. Yeah. You're not going to stop
- 4:20buying Xbox games over even though it annoys you. >> No. >> Yeah.
- 4:26>> But with Arctic, they might get a few more people going to them now because
- 4:30they go, "Look, we gave the money back." Yeah. >> So, you get more people looking into
- 4:34that. So, yeah, it's great marketing. >> Nintendo. Was Nintendo going to or not going to?
- 4:38>> Nintendo. Um >> I think not going to, right? Tariff, there's a lawsuit.
- 4:44>> Yeah, they're they're going um plaintiffs after court to invent. Uh
- 4:48they're saying Yeah. same thing like they want to dismiss it.
- 4:51>> Yeah. Nintendo was was early at uh saying, "What money?" >> Yeah. [laughter]
- 4:56>> What are you talking about? >> What What extra? That's just how much the thing cost.
- 5:03>> Yeah. Don't look over there at that truck backing up with the money from
- 5:08that that says love from Trump on it. >> Yeah. Which is also what it sort of
- 5:14seems some people are also saying. It looks like like Trump did all this and
- 5:17then the all these businesses are getting a kickback.
- 5:21>> I'm I'd be very surprised if he did that on purpose. [laughter] >> I mean,
- 5:26>> you don't think he thought that far ahead? I know people will claim that that he
- 5:31does things like that. >> Yeah. >> I mean, I would be shocked. [laughter] I
- 5:38would be shocked given everything he said about what the tariffs were for and
- 5:41all that. And we talked about that. I already know. I know. We don't have to go over it.
- 5:47>> Like the way he sold them to the public was businesses were going to pay more
- 5:51and that's where it was going to stop. >> Yeah. So, I would say this is not this
- 5:57is extra bad. >> Yeah. >> Oh, look. Well, not from the businesses,
- 6:01I suppose. I don't know, man. [ __ ] it. I don't know what I don't know what he's
- 6:03doing. I [laughter] don't know what he's doing. >> Well, anyway, there's that.
- 6:07>> I um did I send you that can I did I sent you that picture of the can of
- 6:11Mountain Dew. I said Trump's at it again cuz I got a can of Mountain Dew
- 6:16>> today because I've not looked. >> Have a look. Have a look at my um my
- 6:19Mountain Dew from yesterday. He's at it again.
- 6:25I got it out of the fridge and I was like I was like what the [ __ ] he to be
- 6:28clear that's not [laughter] >> I think it's just a Fourth of July
- 6:32>> thing but it's American dew and I was
- 6:35like what the [ __ ] is this [ __ ]
- 6:40>> Oh god yes right Ontario. >> Uh I've never heard of it. Never heard
- 6:45of it Luke. I think you'll find it's called Lake America.
- 6:48>> It wasn't named after Ontario. >> [laughter]
- 6:56>> Don't worry about it. Sorry. Do Do you think he knows that, Luke? [laughter]
- 7:03Don't worry about it. Um, in other Xbox news that people are
- 7:08annoyed about, >> and this is weird,
- 7:12uh, Microsoft have announced that Xbox cloud gaming, which is, you know, where
- 7:18you can play your games on their servers, which we've said is the future
- 7:21and we think is a good idea and I've used it and it works pretty well,
- 7:25>> except they've now imposed these monthly limits and I was like, "Oh, okay, that
- 7:30makes sense." But then I look at what the limits are and I'm like, "What the fuck?" That's
- 7:33>> So if you're a Game Pass Ultimate subscriber, aka the top tier,
- 7:40>> 15 hours a month, >> nothing. >> What are you talking about?
- 7:44>> Like I don't need more than that, but like >> no
- 7:48>> people who That's like half an hour a day. >> Yeah.
- 7:53>> Like there are people who I honestly thought that they were
- 7:58>> pivoting themselves to be look everything's going online. We're That's
- 8:02what it looked like in front of it and now it seems like no, we're going backwards.
- 8:06>> It's so odd. Premium 10 bucks an hour and then essential f sorry 10 hours a month.
- 8:11>> Yep. >> Uh and then essential five hours a month. Five hours a month. That's like
- 8:18nothing. And they This is This is a company that makes the [ __ ] games. They know like
- 8:23>> if you play video games I I don't get much time to play. I play more than five
- 8:28hours a month. >> I must do. >> Well, yeah. You'd have to. But yeah,
- 8:32that's not a lot. And now, but you can buy more, but I don't know how much.
- 8:36>> Like, no one wants to do that. Is this Is this a money grab?
- 8:40>> I I think it is. I don't think cuz they've got the numbers. So,
- 8:45>> and how do you go from >> stream as much as you want to now 5
- 8:51hours is all you get >> from like this is the future so we're
- 8:55going to embrace it and it's been like you know available to by the way you can
- 9:01only use it a little bit like why >> I thought you were encouraging trying to
- 9:06encourage people to do this >> I can understand the cost of it is
- 9:09probably they were probably eating a lot of the cost at the start >> sure
- 9:14>> and I think they've I realize it's not viable to continue that way, but this
- 9:17isn't going to work. >> So, how much do my GeForce uh what is it
- 9:22called? Cloud
- 9:25>> uh monthly limit. What is my monthly 100
- 9:32>> 100 hours like? >> And how much is that?
- 9:36>> It is 200 bucks a year. >> Okay. >> Something like that.
- 9:42>> Yep. Uh, I got a discount at um,
- 9:474th of July maybe. I paid like half paid like 100 bucks.
- 9:50>> If Game Pass Ultimate was 100 hours a month, that would be making more sense.
- 9:54>> I I wouldn't I'd be like, "Okay, fair." And I think less people would complain.
- 9:57I think 15 is just like insane. Like it's ridiculous. Game Pass Ultimate are
- 10:02the in theory your >> they should be their the top tier
- 10:07customers in theory, right? That's what that's what they want people buying.
- 10:10Game Pass Ultimate 15 hours. Like what the [ __ ]
- 10:14>> Like I thought you wanted people to use this. >> Yeah.
- 10:17>> Like this basically if if I was gonna play if I was like, "Okay, I want to
- 10:21play Xbox. I don't have an Xbox. I want to play just on the cloud. All right.
- 10:24What can I do?" Like you can't It's not viable. >> It's not viable anymore. And I think
- 10:29it'll turn people off. >> Yes. >> Playing like, "Oh, that's no good." >> Yeah.
- 10:34>> I can't I can't do it. Yeah. >> It's not enough hours, so I'll just go
- 10:36back to Xbox or I won't play at all. And I don't know change. This is going to change.
- 10:42>> It's Yeah, I think this is insane. I I I don't I just don't understand where this
- 10:46came from. >> Um I don't know if Sony has an
- 10:52equivalent to this. The cloud thing. I think they do. I've not used it. Um Sony
- 10:56Cloud Gaming. Do they have a thing? Yes, they do. Sony's cloud gaming allows
- 11:03PlayStation Plus members to stream. Yeah, but there's no limit. no limit
- 11:08like it was. So >> yeah, you just >> Is Sony going to start doing it soon as well?
- 11:15>> Maybe you just have to have a a PlayStation Plus membership like it used
- 11:19to be with M with Xbox >> Microsoft. Yeah, you pay your monthly
- 11:22fee and this was a benefit of it. >> In a blog post, Microsoft said it was
- 11:29making the changes because the cost of providing cloud gaming has grown as more
- 11:32people use it and play for longer. Yeah, of course. But
- 11:35>> you But that's what you want.
- 11:40>> Yeah. >> I mean, I guess it's tough. Like, if
- 11:45they're being realistic and this is what this is really what all they can afford
- 11:50to offer, [ __ ] All right. I guess this is not the future yet. >> No.
- 11:54>> Like, and then maybe this is good because it is it is a reality check. Maybe that like
- 11:59>> No, this isn't the future yet. this isn't viable as
- 12:04>> like yeah we've yeah with everything with like the AI building everything and
- 12:08taking up all the resources probably costing them a lot of resources to
- 12:13>> money time and they've just yeah this is maybe the first effects we're seeing of
- 12:17this bubble starting to burst >> well I yeah because I think the AI thing
- 12:21is is going to be similar like the the base plans of of the AI you know like
- 12:27you know your $20 a month chatgbt or claude >> like those have to go away at some point.
- 12:32>> Yes. >> There's not >> Yeah. >> maintainable. Like these companies are
- 12:36[ __ ] burning cash. >> Like the $20 is basically you're paying
- 12:40so they can sort of learn off you at the same time. Like there's a benefit that
- 12:44they're getting at the start, but towards the end >> Yeah. But like
- 12:47>> that $3 that's going away. There's no way. >> Like they are not making any money off
- 12:51that. No. >> Like quite the opposite. >> And the amount of money that they're spending.
- 12:56>> Uhhuh. So maybe Yeah, you're right. and and and driving the cost of all the
- 13:00hardware up and and so yeah, I mean this is all unsustainable.
- 13:05>> Well, that's why like all the like the RAM places are going, look, we're not
- 13:08going to start making more factories or anything cuz
- 13:12>> we in 3 years by the time we set it up. >> Yeah. >> You're all out of business.
- 13:16>> There's no guarantee that that any of these people buying it will be around by
- 13:20the time they get this new factory up. Yeah, it's true. [sighs and gasps]
- 13:25>> When do we get super cheap RAM again? >> Maybe. Yeah, I know. Someone put uh the
- 13:31I'm glad I don't need any I don't particularly need any storage at the
- 13:34moment which is good. I'm glad that I >> like for example my when I bought my new MacBook
- 13:40I say new. When did I buy this? Like it's been a few years now. >> I was like
- 13:45>> I'm going to be an idiot and I'm going to get a 4 terbte SSD in it.
- 13:49>> It's a Mac. So I paid up out the [laughter] ass for it because for some
- 13:54reason Apple's just like you know what [ __ ] you. [laughter] they were already like
- 13:59>> for some reason Apple's SSDs are just three times the cost of anyone else's.
- 14:03>> It's ridiculous. There's no justification for it except it's just
- 14:08whatever. Um so but I did I got 4 TB so I'm good like on hard drive space in my
- 14:13laptop. Uh I'm good. You know, my server's got uh if I'm more sensible about what I
- 14:19pack up pack back up onto it instead of just being like [ __ ] it just put
- 14:23everything on there. I've got tons of room like I don't need anything. But >> yeah,
- 14:27>> that will eventually run out. And then somebody said memory uh camera memory
- 14:31cards, too. I've got >> I bought >> I've got three camera cards that I could
- 14:35swap between if I need to. >> Y but if I needed to buy a new one, >> man, it's up as well.
- 14:41>> It's like a dollar a gigabyte at the moment. Like 128 gigabyte SSD card is
- 14:47like $128. It's [ __ ] ridiculous. >> You're just buying them for fun at some
- 14:52point. I swear to God, they were like they were like 30 or 40 bucks each first
- 14:56time and it's like far out. >> That's a It's weird that that's gone up in price.
- 15:02>> Yeah. >> I didn't think that would be impacted.
- 15:07>> Everything, mate. And uh as we've said before, the
- 15:13prediction is that next year it's going to get worse before it gets better
- 15:18because yes, so a lot of this stuff is going to have to change or go away or
- 15:22whatever, but not yet. It's going to get worse first. It's going to get worse and
- 15:26then it's going to come time to repay some of these loans
- 15:30>> because as we said the the RAM manufacturers are hesitant to build new
- 15:36factories to increase production because they think this bubble's going to burst
- 15:40and then they're going to have built all these factories and then all the
- 15:42business is going to disappear overnight >> and it's not like they can like
- 15:46>> build in a few months like it costs [ __ ] money to build it and they're
- 15:51making a lot of money right now but are they still gonna you know Yeah.
- 15:55>> So, yes, it's just going to get worse in until either it does burst or it just
- 16:02doesn't and eventually the RAM companies will be like, "Well, I guess we better
- 16:05build some more shit." >> Well, yeah. Camera memory cards are stupidly expensive.
- 16:11>> Yeah. And strangely, the advice I think still
- 16:16is if you need something, buy it now. Do not wait. >> It's going to get worse.
- 16:21>> Exactly. Unless you think you're not going to need it for 2 or 3 years, like
- 16:26as strange as it may sound, now is a still a good better time to buy.
- 16:29>> I'll stick with what I've got and I'll just change cards at the moment. I think
- 16:33I can survive with that. It's not like I use my camera that often.
- 16:37>> No, but even a computer, if you need a computer, people, a lot of people out
- 16:41there might be thinking, "Oh, wait. It depends. It depends. You might have to
- 16:44wait a long time. You might have to wait at least another year or two." >> Yeah.
- 16:47>> Before anything changes. The only good thing is is computers last
- 16:52longer than they used to. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> When we were growing up, it was like
- 16:56every six months you needed to upgrade something to get the next game to work. >> Yeah.
- 17:01>> That was a horrible time. >> Yeah. I bought this Mac in November 2023
- 17:06according to the specs here. So that's what almost almost three years ago now. >> Yeah.
- 17:12>> Uh I mean I have no reason to to upgrade it. >> No, >> it's it's perfectly fine.
- 17:17>> Yep. and my phone too. Well, my phone is my camera at the moment, but
- 17:22>> I have no reason to get a new phone. So, >> I guess I'm okay for now. >> For now,
- 17:28>> I'm lucky in that regard. I know there are people who
- 17:32>> who are coming to the end of their >> Yeah. >> life cycle and
- 17:37>> buy on their on their old computer. And then I hate to say it, now might be a
- 17:43good time even though it doesn't seem like it because next year >> is worse time. Yeah.
- 17:50>> Um yeah, so cloud gaming
- 17:54>> maybe not. >> Uh in other game news, what do we got
- 18:00here? Um oh, the uh the Witcher. >> I saw this as well.
- 18:06>> A lot of good Witcher stuff going on. and >> but also one bad one.
- 18:10>> It's not bad as such because I didn't know this was even happening. And so
- 18:13it's good news in that this is this is a thing that is happening. It's just on hold.
- 18:20>> The Witcher aka the first game >> is being remade
- 18:26>> by the City Project Red. >> Yes. Um, >> which I'm hoping that it's being
- 18:32completely remade and they're making it to be more like Witcher 3 because I would imagine
- 18:37>> Witcher is hard. [laughter] >> Yeah, I know. I never finished it. I got
- 18:42very close to the end, which I know because I watched a playthrough of the
- 18:46end because I was like, I just need to know what happens. >> Yeah.
- 18:49>> Um, and it was clunky. >> Yeah,
- 18:54>> I really enjoyed it. It's very good. Like there's things about it that are
- 18:58just great that that they even abandoned later. Um like the way that in in the first
- 19:05Witcher game, uh this is in the second one a bit too. It just kind of went away
- 19:08in the third one. Um when you're going to battle a creature,
- 19:15like if you get hired, you know, there's not not just Well, even your average
- 19:18drowners and whatnot, you you you have to figure out what their weaknesses are first.
- 19:22>> Yes. Yep. And then put that oil on your blade and
- 19:25>> Exactly. So, in the first Witcher one, you got to get books and you've got to
- 19:28read the books. You got to figure things out. >> Did it hold your hand like The Witcher 3
- 19:31did like he might want this in in in a lot of ways it doesn't hold your hand.
- 19:36It's basically like [laughter] [ __ ] you, figure it out. So, um, and
- 19:42then there's also that very funny thing. This is my favorite thing about it,
- 19:45whereas if you're rude to people, they just won't talk to you anymore. And in
- 19:50particular, the first village you go to, there's a dwarf who's the blacksmith.
- 19:55And if you make fun of him for being a dwarf, he literally says, "Fuck off,
- 19:59cunt." And he won't talk to you ever again. And then you can't talk to a
- 20:03blacksmith until you progress to the next [ __ ] chapter in the game. >> So beware.
- 20:08>> And Yeah. And you really want to upgrade your weapons in that [laughter] game.
- 20:13>> Too bad you're racist. [laughter] >> Yeah. >> Yeah. But no. Yeah. It's sort of a shame
- 20:19it's on hold, but >> Yeah. Yeah. So, it's on hold. They can
- 20:21focus on Witcher 4 and new expansion stuff. Yeah. Um, but >> that's fair.
- 20:26>> Yeah. But it does confirm that it is happening, which is good news cuz
- 20:29>> I think everybody said >> The Witcher could do with it, the first
- 20:34one, cuz it's a great game, great story. >> It is. >> Uh, and a lot of people haven't
- 20:38experienced it because once you go back to it from Witcher 2, Wer 3, and even
- 20:44Witcher 2. >> Yeah. You can't you can't go back. And it's
- 20:49really a shame because a lot of people don't get to if you would Yeah. If
- 20:53someone's going to play that now after playing like The Witcher 3 for their first game.
- 20:58>> Yeah. >> No, no. Wouldn't work. >> No. No. No. It's Yeah. It's very different.
- 21:04>> It's built on It's a modified version of I think the Neverwinter Nights engine.
- 21:08>> Oh, wow. >> It's Yeah, it's very clunky and old at this point.
- 21:14>> Yeah. Well, I look forward to see when it comes out
- 21:17>> again. the story in it so good. Like I really enjoyed it.
- 21:22And it also um
- 21:27there's plot points in it where it's very non I guess it doesn't hold your
- 21:34hand in the plot either. >> There are certain things about it that
- 21:37you're just kind of left like it'll present you with the facts. >> Yeah.
- 21:41>> But it doesn't kind of put it together for you.
- 21:43>> Nothing here way point go here. Yeah,
- 21:48it's like you need to be following the story and then you'll at the end you'll
- 21:54understand what happened but if you don't do that you'll be like okay like
- 21:59>> yeah it's not yeah as as we said like it does not hold your hand you it does not
- 22:04go do this do that >> same with movies I think >> you can't you couldn't sit down a casual
- 22:08player couldn't play the game >> you need to commit
- 22:12>> I think it's like movie some not all movies these days but a lot of movies
- 22:14these days you've got somebody there who just explains the plot to you at certain
- 22:18points just in case. Just in case you're not putting these pieces together
- 22:21yourself. Yeah. Yeah. The first game doesn't have that. >> No. >> Yeah.
- 22:25>> You need to if you don't read that piece of paper in your infantry, you're going
- 22:29to be very confused about what the [ __ ] is going on.
- 22:34So anyway, we get that at some point. >> Yeah. But we get the DLC
- 22:40for which this year, I think, >> and the remaster. I can't believe
- 22:43there's a [ __ ] remaster. So interesting. >> So nice of them.
- 22:49>> Yeah. [gasps] Speaking of um remasters,
- 22:55uh this one not so nice. Apparently there is a re-release of James Pond.
- 23:00Remember that game? >> Yes. >> So I saw an article about this a few
- 23:06weeks ago. Uh I don't think we talked about it, but some company I think it
- 23:11was on Kickstarter. Um there's a I think or is it No, it's just happening I think.
- 23:16>> Okay. >> It even got crowdfunded. It's a remake
- 23:20remaster remake of um the of the James Pond games. It's called
- 23:25James Pond Legacy: The Pond is Not Enough collection and it's they put a
- 23:31trailer and some concept art out and it's all very AI looking.
- 23:37>> Oh. >> And uh they said no. No, it's not. And
- 23:43then they released a bunch of um progress shots of the art and stuff like
- 23:48that that people were like, >> "No, you've just made in between things
- 23:54of the original art from the, you know, the old old Amigga version or whatever
- 24:00and the AI thing you made and they just cut like it's No, it's not real. Um
- 24:06>> Oh god. Yeah. I'm looking at the the timeline of the
- 24:11cow. I don't just traced that. >> Exactly. [laughter] You just traced it
- 24:15and erased things from the AI one to make it look like it was a progress
- 24:18shot. [gasps] So now the um the original creator of um James Pond has come out
- 24:24because I guess he has nothing to do with this. And he says, "I hope they
- 24:27choke on an AI generated fishbone." He calls it disrespectful and soulless
- 24:33because uh yeah, very strange. Um Oh yeah, there is the progress shot. Yeah, it's [ __ ]
- 24:40stupid. >> Yeah, it's like so supposed like you you
- 24:43can clearly see that AI doesn't get that the arm cannon is supposed to look like
- 24:46a um a milk. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly.
- 24:53>> Yeah. It's It's very obviously. I mean, if it's not AI, they've just done a
- 25:00terrible job. >> Yeah. If it's not AI, this is not the game people are imagining.
- 25:06>> This is a thing at the moment, though. I say I say I I think this is AI uh
- 25:10>> because they've got enough people with eyes on it that it's sensible. But
- 25:13there's a subreddit called uh I think it's is this AI? And that people do now have trouble
- 25:19>> with this >> where they commission something
- 25:23>> and they get it and it's they just can't tell and then so they post it and they
- 25:28go is this AI or is it not and then there'll be an argument about it in the sub it's like
- 25:33>> it used to be very easy all you do look at the hands.
- 25:36>> Yes. But now AI sort of got the hang of that a little bit more and now it's
- 25:41going to focus more on the background and >> but there are tools that can tell you
- 25:45like OpenAI has a tool that if you >> give it the picture it can tell you oh
- 25:51OpenAI tools we used to make this or whatever. So those that's pretty handy. But
- 25:56>> um in some cases, yeah, I think it's not so simple because the other thing people
- 26:02do and I think there's a question about whether this is okay. Like if you're an artist
- 26:07and you have AI do a draft >> and then you elaborate on the draft, is
- 26:13that okay? >> Luke, >> I [laughter] don't know.
- 26:19>> I think a lot of people would say no. I I'm leaning towards no because
- 26:24>> I don't know because a lot of people use that for writing too now. Journalists
- 26:28and stuff use it for writing too. So I think it's it's I mean I would argue
- 26:34it's the same thing. You're having the AI figure out the broad strokes of a thing
- 26:41and then you're going in and and enhancing it with your flavor.
- 26:44>> At the end of the day, I don't think it's going to matter. M
- 26:47>> Elon Musk is going to build his billion robot army. They're going to put AI in
- 26:52that and we're just replaced. So >> yeah. Yeah. Guess get used to it.
- 26:58>> It just We're all replaceable now.
- 27:03>> I saw someone post on um a read subreddit the other day. They made a a
- 27:08game. They said, "Oh, they made a little adventure game." And then uh link to it
- 27:12on Steam and then the screenshots. It's obviously all the art is AI generated
- 27:18and then people were like >> uh maybe rethink this like because the
- 27:25question is that art's AI generated so what else did you did you make any of this yourself
- 27:30>> because it is you literally can at this point sit down and say make me a game
- 27:34and it will >> but then it might just be a case of he did make the game but
- 27:40>> didn't know the art side. >> Yeah. Yeah. Well, and and that's that's
- 27:46fine. Like you you have to disclose that on the page and like you know some
- 27:51people don't mind it, some people don't like it.
- 27:54>> Like but it's just I don't know. I feel like at a certain point
- 27:58>> like if you didn't do any of it, >> then how are you selling it?
- 28:02>> Yeah, maybe don't Yeah, maybe don't put it up because it's kind of That's a
- 28:05little embarrassing, isn't it? >> I don't know. It's weird. I It's weird. >> Yeah.
- 28:12Don't no don't care for us. >> But no, this James Pond, I honestly
- 28:17think this is not It's nice that they're going back and remaking this game
- 28:22because I do remember James Bond, but going back and making it to even if this
- 28:26is their intended outcome for what it's going to look like.
- 28:30>> It's not taking me back to remember that game. It looks horrible.
- 28:34>> Clearly, no one likes it. >> Yeah. would have come better with like that
- 28:39still having that retro feel to it instead of this >> 3D that's big right now. Yeah, that
- 28:44stuff's big. >> Use um >> so why not go down that path? That would be fine.
- 28:49>> Yeah, arguably better. But >> yes, what do we know?
- 28:55>> Nothing apparently. >> Yeah. >> Do you know what I do know? >> What do you know?
- 29:00>> You don't own your games, mate. [sighs]
- 29:05>> Yes. Unfortunately, that is true.
- 29:08>> Sony has come out and said people are
- 29:12aware of it and uh and uh they've got this class action lawsuit.
- 29:18>> Mhm. And um the lawsuit says that Sony or the PlayStation store doesn't make it
- 29:25obvious enough that players are merely purchasing a revocable license to play a
- 29:30game, aka they can take it away from you >> rather than owning the game. Uh it says
- 29:37specifically fails to clearly and conspicuously disclose to consumers at
- 29:40the point of sale that these transactions do not convey ownership of
- 29:43the digital game. It argues the company relegates this information to
- 29:46inconspicuous text or separate agreements to that consumers are not
- 29:50required to affirmatively acknowledge. Sony says, "Nah, mate, you knew what you
- 29:55were getting into." >> Uh, which is a load of crap, but also true at the same time.
- 30:01>> Mhm. >> It's only really just become apparent that people are now starting to
- 30:05understand, oh, we don't we're buying a license. We're not buying the actual
- 30:10game. It's only >> Yeah. I mean, we know because we've
- 30:13talked about this a lot over the years. Uh, but I don't think it's common knowledge.
- 30:18>> No. And look, when you do go on to something that says confirm purchase,
- 30:22you assume you're buying that product. >> When there's a buy button, people think
- 30:27it's buy, but you're not. You're buying a license. And it does say it, but it's not like
- 30:33>> it's not for they basic. They've got a screenshot of the Sony page here. And by
- 30:37selecting confirm purchase, you agree to complete the purchase in accordance with
- 30:41terms of service and you first acknowledge that the purchase of this
- 30:44digital product amounts to a license subject to a software product license agreement.
- 30:49>> People don't know what >> No, no. I'm buying the game.
- 30:53>> Yeah. Yeah. Because that's how it's always worked
- 30:57>> traditionally and people didn't realize it was different. >> Yep. >> Yeah.
- 31:01>> What was the first thing that really I think hit people was mythbusters.
- 31:06I think was the big one that sort of hit people where that was taken off some
- 31:11product and it was just no, we're taking it away from everyone. Like it's not
- 31:14just you can't buy it anymore. Even if you purchased it, it's gone. >> Yeah.
- 31:18>> That's the first big one where people started to find out that it's Yeah. You're not
- 31:22>> I mean this has happened on iTunes for a long time. I think it was just not as
- 31:26common and not as like um not as I guess
- 31:31>> I I I think with iTunes it was something not new.
- 31:35>> Terminator 2 was the big one a long time ago. >> I um I'd purchased the Scott Pilgrim
- 31:41soundtrack. >> Oh yeah. >> And then I went to go listen to once and
- 31:44a few of the songs were gone and I went, "Oh, that's odd." But thought nothing of
- 31:47it and then it wasn't until a lot later went, "Oh, hold on. They lost the rights
- 31:51to that." And I >> Yeah. I bought albums on on iTunes many
- 31:54many many years ago and they're not >> available anymore like and they just are
- 31:59gone now and it's like hang on a minute >> like
- 32:01>> I think you got hit when you transferred to America.
- 32:06>> I did. Yeah, they fixed that though. >> They did fix that eventually, but yes, I
- 32:10did. I had to keep both accounts and I had to switch between them for a while
- 32:14until they allowed you to do a transfer. But they did fix that.
- 32:17>> Yeah. Oh, okay. Um but the big one was Terminator 2 because
- 32:22at some point Terminator 2 was available on um iTunes and I had bought it through
- 32:28Movies Anywhere. Movies Anywhere was that one. It's owned by Disney I think
- 32:31where you buy and it gives it to you on all the platforms.
- 32:34>> Yeah. But something happened and um the
- 32:38license I think for whatever company had the license before lost the license and
- 32:43it got transferred to another one and it basically just disappeared from a bunch
- 32:46of people's libraries and I guess it wasn't as big as a news of a new story
- 32:49at the time because it was just that one movie and it was kind of a niche >> Yeah.
- 32:52>> thing. But that was the one of the very early ones that I was like, you know
- 32:55what, [ __ ] this. I'm not buying these on here anymore. >> Yep.
- 32:59>> Cuz I'm not buying them. >> No. And because the annoying thing is
- 33:04like when Xbox was selling movies, I was occasionally buying like, "Oh, I'll buy
- 33:09that. It's five bucks on special. I'll buy it and I might watch it one day."
- 33:12But then it got to a point like, "No, if I'm buying it and by the time I feel,
- 33:16oh, I might be ready to watch this in 10 years time, it
- 33:20>> probably won't be there." So, I've just >> Yeah. [clears throat and cough] I used
- 33:23to think >> my thinking now is right if I have to
- 33:28buy it I'll just rent it because unless right if it's with with the way that I
- 33:33consume movies right if I'm going to watch a movie
- 33:37>> I'll either sit down and I'm going to watch it right now. >> Yep.
- 33:40>> Or I can't guarantee when I'm going to watch it.
- 33:43>> So it's not worth me buying it on one of these platforms where like you said it
- 33:48might be gone by the time I get around to watching it. So, unless I'm sitting
- 33:52down right now if I can't get it from somewhere else [laughter]
- 33:58>> then I'll just rent it because it's like what two or three bucks instead of 10
- 34:03and like I don't know if I'm going to watch it next week. So, [ __ ] it. Like
- 34:08I'm certainly not going to watch a movie twice. Do you know what I mean? I don't
- 34:11have time for that anymore. So, there's no buying them is kind of pointless.
- 34:15Well, that's why that's why there's sort of this resurger of people going back to
- 34:20physical media, but even then, you're
- 34:23not guaranteed because >> well, think about all those people had
- 34:28those big VHS collections. And we know someone who has a big VHS collection. >> Yeah.
- 34:32>> Buying a working VHS is actually hard to do now. So,
- 34:36>> I've got one, but yeah, it's I mean, they don't make new ones, I don't think.
- 34:40Well, they probably do now. They might do, but it's going to be the same. Like
- 34:44they can just stop >> making Blu-ray players >> or like uh HD DVD. >> Yeah.
- 34:49>> What are you going to watch those on? That went away. >> Your laser disc.
- 34:52>> Yeah, Blu-ray could go the same way. And will eventually obviously Blu-rays.
- 34:57Well, look at Sony. They're not putting the drives in the [ __ ] PlayStations anymore.
- 35:01>> How long do you think they're going to make Blu-ray players?
- 35:03>> And remember, the reason why Blu-ray was such a big thing was because of the um
- 35:08PlayStation 3. Yeah, >> cuz it came with a Blu-ray player. >> Yeah. So, I think
- 35:14I think unfortunately this is inevitable. >> Yes.
- 35:17>> Um I think just stop buying them. [laughter]
- 35:22Teach these [ __ ] a lesson. You have to That's a the um what's that argument
- 35:28about? Um, people say, "I I pirate it because I
- 35:33want to I don't want to pay them, but I want to um send them a message
- 35:40>> kind of thing. I still want to watch it, but I I don't want to pay for it." But
- 35:43then the thing is that if they see everybody's pirating it, they know you
- 35:46want it. And so what they actually try to do is prevent you from pirating it.
- 35:50>> Like they're not that they're not making it easier.
- 35:52>> Yeah. You're not actually making the stand you think you are. No, it's
- 35:56sending a mixed message to them because it's like you're saying that like this
- 36:00thing has no value to you, but you're still getting it illegally, which means
- 36:04it obviously does because you're risking you're risking
- 36:08>> things like if it didn't mean anything, you just >> would boycott it completely.
- 36:14>> Not watch it. Like, yeah, done. >> You're not f not convinced this workound
- 36:21in your head is making this moral, >> right? So, I don't know. I think this whole
- 36:26digital thing, there's not much we can do about it. It certainly makes me rethink
- 36:31buying as many things though, like you said, because I I now before I'd be
- 36:36like, "Oh, this is on sale. I'll grab it." Now, I think
- 36:39>> am I ever going to get around to playing this? >> Yes.
- 36:41>> And if I can't guarantee that I'll get around to playing it, well, then
- 36:45>> this could be a waste of money because it could disappear tomorrow. >> Yep.
- 36:49>> So, unless I'm going to play it right now, >> I'm not I'm not >> Leave it there.
- 36:54That's changed my buying habits. >> Yes. >> Yeah.
- 37:01Uh Steam >> has had a data leak.
- 37:05>> That's quite a big data leak. >> 12 terabytes is quite big. Uh and I
- 37:11don't I mean how the [ __ ] did they do this? Um a public accessible a publicly
- 37:16accessible end point. >> Uh and no hacking was required. Somebody
- 37:21has managed to slurp up 12 terabytes of data from both complete and beta
- 37:27versions of games including HalfLife uh was it part three the you know the
- 37:32expansion that never came out the canceled one. >> Yep.
- 37:36>> A bunch of stuff and third party games too. And uh yeah it's very strange.
- 37:42>> Wow. Like how do it's it's sort of strange it's sort of sat there
- 37:47unprotected for so long and someone finally found it.
- 37:49>> Yeah. 12 terabytes is
- 37:54>> just a lot. [gasps] >> Yeah. They found a build of Left 4 Dead
- 37:59from several months ply prior to its actual release which features a
- 38:03different hard voice lines which never featured in the retail version and
- 38:06sections of the map that were altered. >> How did people have so much time to go
- 38:10through all this stuff? >> Well, yeah. I don't know.
- 38:17like to sit down and go compare it to the the game that's released to the what
- 38:22they found and compare the different lines that were in it and weren't. And
- 38:27>> um it's the Valve related content creator Gabe Follower. Is Gabe Follower
- 38:32his name or what he does? [laughter] >> I'm guessing it might be what he does. I
- 38:38just think it's funny >> because that could also be a a name.
- 38:46No, it it can't be. It's too on the nose for it to be an actual name.
- 38:51>> He's just he's following Gabe Mule. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I don't know. It's very
- 38:55interesting. Uh cuz that's like I said 12 terabytes is a [ __ ] lot and
- 38:59somebody's just managed to slurp that down without >> having
- 39:04they were I don't think they doesn't seem like they were too concerned with what the
- 39:09>> what the information was there. If it's like 12 terabytes just unprotected.
- 39:14Well, it says Valve transitioned to a different storage system in 2013, which
- 39:18is why the data ends at that point, which is I guess lucky for them
- 39:23[laughter] because otherwise it would have been even more. >> Yeah.
- 39:26>> And so maybe this is just some legacy system that's just
- 39:30>> sat there forgotten about or >> 13 years. >> Yeah. Uh includes the entire Steam
- 39:36library from 2003 and 2013. from between 2003 to 2013. Not
- 39:43just Valve games, it's the whole Steam library was only 12 terabytes.
- 39:49>> Yeah, that's interesting, right? >> At one point. Yeah. >> The 2013 that seems small.
- 39:54>> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Cuz [clears throat] Yeah. Anyway, yeah.
- 39:59Definitely wasn't Games Today. >> No. >> Which Val hasn't commented on it, but uh
- 40:06that's a thing that's happened. >> Yeah. I don't think there's much for him to comment on.
- 40:10>> No. Yeah, we [ __ ] up. >> Yeah. >> Should have probably uh
- 40:15>> you found that heard that >> we've now fixed it. >> Well, presumably they have. Yeah.
- 40:21>> The only thing that the only thing that I think they'd really have to come out
- 40:24and talk about is if there was customer data in there.
- 40:28>> Yeah, it doesn't sound like it. Well, I
- 40:31guess unless you count um the game publishers as customers, which they are.
- 40:38>> They are, but I don't think it's got their bank account details in there.
- 40:42>> Probably not. Probably not.
- 40:46Um uh I've been watching, uh Silo. Did we [clears throat] talk about this last week?
- 40:51>> We We have. How is it going? I think the last episode just came out.
- 40:55>> I watched it last night. Last episode of this season. There's one more season. Yes.
- 41:00>> And uh let's just say without spoilers, we got some answers last night,
- 41:06>> but just some more questions as well. It's very good. It's very good.
- 41:12>> So, it did answer some of these questions that you were sort of like
- 41:15>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. >> Last week you were talking like you're
- 41:18hoping that these are all going to pay off because it's setting some stuff up. That's
- 41:21>> I have a pretty good idea. I have an idea of I don't I don't know how to spoil
- 41:27things. Um yes answer a good picture of how things work. Now
- 41:33>> the questions remaining are mostly why and
- 41:39who's responsible for this? >> Those are the main questions I have now.
- 41:42Why is it like this and who did this? >> Okay,
- 41:47>> it's very good. But but the the functional questions about how things
- 41:51work are mostly answered now, I think. >> Well, I'm going to start watching it now
- 41:55that the last episode's out. So, I'm going to renew Apple. Apple, you're
- 41:59drawing me back in >> because Seance didn't. So,
- 42:03>> I I I got Silos's better than for me. I'm enjoying it. I like it better than
- 42:09Severance. I like Se a good bit, but uh >> yeah, Silo like we're doing like like I
- 42:15probably mentioned, we're re-watching all of it. >> Uh and we're So, we've been watching
- 42:20season 3 as it came out. Started re-watching from the start. We're now
- 42:24back up to season three [laughter] in our rewatch and it actually gets a
- 42:28little confusing because it would >> we started last night's episode and
- 42:34luckily they have a little recap before but I had to do a little little mental
- 42:37reset of like hang on >> last episode which which last [laughter] episode was
- 42:43the one before this one like >> no I can't wait to watch it because
- 42:49season two while I liked I didn't mind it did lose me a little bit. It felt a bit
- 42:55>> I think >> on the rewatch I really liked season 2 but I think the
- 43:00>> the reason is that you don't quite understand
- 43:04why things are important. >> Yeah. until the end of it. And then on a
- 43:09rewatch, I actually got more out of it because you're you're going, "Oh, okay. Okay."
- 43:15>> Like, >> okay. All right. Maybe a rewatch, but I'm looking forward.
- 43:19>> It's important. I guess there's a reason that it's
- 43:22>> do showing you what it's showing you kind of thing. >> Okay. >> Yep. All right.
- 43:27All right. Apple, you getting my money again. >> And they've filmed season 4 already. I
- 43:32don't know if we talked about that. It comes out summer next year. And then uh that's
- 43:35>> it's sort of weird that this is happening now like for for so long like
- 43:39with severance where like filming was put up oh we haven't even started
- 43:43filming next season it's years away and now we've got like this which oh we've
- 43:47already filmed it and same with Star Trek Strange News World that's already filmed and
- 43:51>> yeah I think with something like this it was very popular. They're like okay
- 43:55we're going to make all of it. We know that we are now. Let's just do it
- 43:58because Rebecca Ferguson is very [ __ ] busy. Yes. And >> she's more expensive now.
- 44:04>> Yeah. So, let's just get everyone and like Common and all the other actors
- 44:08presumably. I think a lot of the actors in this will probably go on to do bigger
- 44:12things as well. >> Yeah. >> So, let's just get them all in and get
- 44:16it done because we know we're going to do it. Let's just spend the money.
- 44:18>> Why? We can keep paying him what we're paying them.
- 44:20>> Yeah. It's not going to be cheaper [laughter] in two years. So, let's just
- 44:24[ __ ] do it. Yeah. No, I'm happy about it.
- 44:29>> Ah, man. Great show. >> Yeah. >> Really like it.
- 44:35>> It's good. Well, there's another show you have on here. Have you actually watched this?
- 44:41>> No, I will, but this is sad. Uh, Spider Noir. >> Um, which I do really want to watch. I
- 44:48just haven't gotten around to it yet. It's been cancelled after one season
- 44:52despite the fact that it's been nominated for a bunch of Emmys
- 44:55>> and uh and everybody loved it. >> I think it was one of these shows that
- 45:01>> like it's winning awards, everything, but the problem is is no one was
- 45:05actually watching it. >> Is that true? Maybe it's true. Yeah.
- 45:08>> I watched the first episode and it didn't draw me in. >> Oh, really?
- 45:13>> Yeah. You haven't watched it at all? >> No, I haven't. That's fair. The reason I
- 45:19haven't watched it is not I probably would have except I wanted to watch it
- 45:22with Jenna and with who watches Zyo. >> So [laughter] it's like it's not like
- 45:27that I'm putting it off as such. It's just a put it in.
- 45:31>> But the way with television shows now it's not like in the old days where you
- 45:35with week to week they you get all of it and they watch very closely to see who's
- 45:41and they make the decisions very quickly now. >> Well, silo's been week to week.
- 45:47be killing me. Um I imagine cage is probably expensive too. >> Yes.
- 45:53>> Imagining that that's the case. >> I don't know anymore.
- 45:58>> Yeah. Do people take a pay cut for TV? I think some TV is prestigious enough now
- 46:05that people do take a pay cut, but >> something like this.
- 46:09>> Like this isn't He's It's not 1990s anymore where Nicholas Cage
- 46:14>> That's fair. That's fair. Yeah. >> Like what was I don't It's been a while
- 46:19since we've really seen him in anything. >> That's true. >> I can remember.
- 46:23>> That's kind of a joke. >> Not saying that he's cheap, but
- 46:26>> No, no, no. I know. He's done a lot of [ __ ] >> Yes. >> Over the years.
- 46:32>> Have you watched um >> releasing movies, couple of movies every year?
- 46:37>> Have you seen what's the one? Um The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
- 46:40Have you seen that movie? >> No. >> Oh, you've got to watch it. The one with Pedro Pascal.
- 46:45Oh, that's the one where that scene comes from, isn't it?
- 46:48>> Yeah, you've got to watch it, mate. It's so good. It's such a funny movie.
- 46:53>> It's really good. >> I will watch it. Oh, will I? Can I watch
- 46:58it on anything? >> Oh, interesting. Yeah, just buy it. Buy [laughter]
- 47:05buy it. >> Uh, Amazon available rental purchase.
- 47:11Ephol rental purchase streaming. No currently subscriptions.
- 47:16>> Yeah. Sucks. >> That does sucks. [snorts]
- 47:21Um, you [clears throat] mentioned Star Trek. >> Yes.
- 47:25>> There's some news here that I'm like gh about.
- 47:30>> They're making a new Star Trek movie. >> And
- 47:34>> are they making the R-rated one from >> Tarantino? >> Tarantino. Yes.
- 47:41>> No. >> No. >> This is um what are these guys? Uh
- 47:47these guys did the Dungeons and Dragons movie, right? Okay. That was a good movie.
- 47:52>> But the problem is this is the pitch. >> The new Star Trek movie will explore bad
- 47:58apples in Starfleet. That's not Star Trek. There's no like Star Trek.
- 48:05>> We've already sort of had that movie. >> Yeah. And it's [ __ ] Like that's not
- 48:09that's Don't do that. That's the whole point of Star Trek is that No, no, no,
- 48:12no. Human, humanity's figured itself out. >> We're all working together. Gene
- 48:15Rodenberry would not sign off on this movie. >> Like, what are they doing? Like, no, no,
- 48:19this isn't Star Trek. Star Trek is them out in the universe solving like
- 48:23problems with aliens and like >> Yes. Enforcing our will upon the rest of the universe.
- 48:28>> Yeah. Humanity is supposed to be a utopia at this point. They figured
- 48:31everything out like like this whole thing where there's like >> conspiracies and stuff.
- 48:36>> The conflict shouldn't be internal with Star Trek. And then when they show like,
- 48:40oh, there's all these like poor people on Earth. No, no, no. That's the whole
- 48:44point is that we supposed to have figured that out. Stop it.
- 48:47>> Cuz we got replicator technology, which means you take away worrying about food
- 48:52and everything. And >> yes, >> that's why there's no money on Earth.
- 48:56>> That's what Star Trek is. [laughter] Stop it.
- 49:00>> Like anyway, so I don't know. I just think this is
- 49:05stupid. Yeah, it's but it's the only Star Trek that's
- 49:10in development at the moment. >> Y >> there's nothing else in development which
- 49:14>> I'm heartened by the fact that all of the comments on this were like no
- 49:17thanks. [laughter] >> Yeah, >> stop it. Stop trying to make gritty dark
- 49:23Star Trek. That's not what the all the successful Star Trek movies aren't this.
- 49:29They're the ones where they go out into space and they do cool [ __ ] >> Yes. [laughter]
- 49:38>> [sighs and gasps] >> Rant finished. >> Yeah. I'm just trying to have a look
- 49:45like Yeah. Everyone sort of like Yeah. Like Jean Roder's vision was to point to
- 49:49the light in the future of space exploration. >> Mhm. I just think it's odd.
- 49:54>> I mean, it's not odd. It's what it's f it fits with what people are into
- 50:01these days, I suppose. I just feel like that not everything has to be like that.
- 50:04>> I'm just wondering are these two fans of Star Trek
- 50:11or if they just Yep. This would be a good career move for us. >> Yeah.
- 50:16>> So, I think you you look at like J.J. Abrams was honest about it. He was more
- 50:22of a Star Wars fan than a Star Trek fan. And that comes across when you look at
- 50:27the Star Trek movies he did because they're more like Star Wars movies which
- 50:30>> Yeah. They've got that fast pace. It's Yeah.
- 50:32>> And I think like that worked like they were probably more popular
- 50:39than they would have been otherwise because of that. But I do think it
- 50:43changed what they were. >> Yes. >> Like >> Yeah. >> So, but I guess it's a business. It's
- 50:50not a >> It's a business. We'll just have to wait and see.
- 50:53>> Mhm. But hopefully with all the feedback they're getting, maybe they will just
- 50:57they won't. >> Maybe we can have another go at this. [laughter]
- 51:01But no, they've already got this already locked in. >> Probably. >> Yeah,
- 51:05>> I don't know. I like I said, I just read the headline and I was like, "No thank you.
- 51:10>> No thank you." >> Um, in other science fiction news, uh,
- 51:16let's do this one first. Ridley Scott,
- 51:18that's weighed in. And uh oh, >> that article's not loading.
- 51:25>> Article's gone. >> That's fine. I read it. I know what I
- 51:28know what Ridley I've seen a few articles about. I'll find another one before we uh
- 51:32>> Okay. So, it's it's I haven't rec. It's out there.
- 51:36>> No, no. Ridley Scott said that. Um [sighs and gasps] so, there's other
- 51:41articles about Did we talk about this part of it? Okay. He's coming back and
- 51:46he's going to do the third one of the movies that he was, you know, he did
- 51:49Prometheus, Alien Covenant, and then he was going to do a third one and then no
- 51:53one liked Alien Covenant, so he went away. >> Yes,
- 51:57>> he didn't think Romulus was that good, which I agree with. But now he being
- 52:03Ridley Scott thinks he's obviously required to come back and do the one he
- 52:08was going to do with >> I didn't mind Robbie Listen. I thought
- 52:12it was definitely better than his last movie. >> I think Romulus was all I also think
- 52:17Romulus was better than Alien Covenant even though I didn't like it that much. Um and I
- 52:23>> but he's definitely >> sadly Scott used to be one of my
- 52:27favorite directors. These days I'm like okay old man back in your box. Like [laughter]
- 52:33I don't have any confidence in your taste anymore. So, he's gonna do one
- 52:38>> set after Covenant where >> I know I'm not gonna rant about this
- 52:42again. I I rewatched Alien Covenant a couple of years ago. I had so many problems with it.
- 52:48>> It doesn't explain a whole bunch of [ __ ] >> I don't think making another movie after
- 52:53is going to make it any better. >> No. Well, I'm unless it's the movie in
- 52:59between that movie. Those two movies. >> The one that I want
- 53:02>> you see her flying around on a spaceship with a head and a bag.
- 53:06>> Yeah. No, it's not. It's going to be David after Covenant when he somehow
- 53:12managed to [ __ ] swallow
- 53:16that thing with the alien embryo in it. just [gasps]
- 53:21>> but look it does to me this is >> to me this is just sort of showing that
- 53:26they are just rubber stamping his name onto movies as a producer >> or
- 53:33it is possible he's just talking [ __ ] and this isn't actually going to happen
- 53:36>> well he was producer of Alien Romulus >> No that's fair he does he's still got a
- 53:42lot of pull but >> I think his name's just on it but it's
- 53:46got nothing to do with him actually being a part of it
- 53:48>> well he does and he doesn't, right? Because the whole point of this was,
- 53:52this is why I think this whole thing is stupid. He didn't want to make any more
- 53:55alien movies. He wanted to make a movie about aliens seeding humanity, like a
- 54:01Charity of the Gods style movie. Nothing to do with Alien or anything like that,
- 54:05>> but he came but he put it in the Alien universe or some
- 54:09>> No, because they wouldn't let him make it. They wouldn't give him the money.
- 54:12And then he was like, "I want to make this movie." And then they were like,
- 54:15"No, we want you to make an alien movie." So, he took that script that was
- 54:20uh if you if you read what the original script was, it was literally a prequel
- 54:23to um Alien and it was quite good. >> Yep. >> And then he said, "All right, I'll make
- 54:30that then." And they were like, "All right, great." And then he went took it
- 54:33away and he went, "Fuck you." And he just changed it [laughter] all into what
- 54:36he wanted to do. >> Which is which is why it doesn't fit
- 54:39with Alien properly anymore because he was like, "I don't want to do that."
- 54:43>> But I'll take your money though. >> Right. He doesn't give a [ __ ] that it
- 54:47doesn't make sense. >> No. So,
- 54:52yeah. I just cuz the the only real thing that tied it into Alien was there was an
- 54:56alien at the end for some reason, >> right? It was intentionally disconnected
- 55:02from Alien because he didn't Yeah. And then >> and then for some reason Alien Covenant,
- 55:06he was like, you know, actually it is connected to Alien, but in a stupid way,
- 55:10not in [laughter] a good way. And now he wants to make a third one to really tie
- 55:14it in to show, you know, it's all >> Yeah, >> we'll wait and see. I don't I don't
- 55:19think it's going to get I don't think maybe his p is dying off.
- 55:25>> Maybe. Although executive producer on a lot of stuff.
- 55:30>> Yeah. Yeah. >> All right. I'm going to put this article in place of the other one.
- 55:35>> Yeah.
- 55:40Uh, I put it in the wrong section. Let me put it right up here. Sorry. I know
- 55:45this is not interesting to people. [laughter] All right. And then this one
- 55:49can [ __ ] off. [snorts] There we go. All right. Excellent. Now I can read the
- 55:55article. >> This one's a bit more harsh on Ridley.
- 56:01The headline for this one is Ridley Scott wants to help Alien after Romulus
- 56:04was better than his films. [laughter] Not wrong. Well, actually, I like
- 56:08Prometheus. I like Prometheus despite Yes. I It's one of those things where I
- 56:14know why it's the way it is. So, I'm like I can just ignore the fact that
- 56:19it's like Yes, it's >> I still remember for the longest time
- 56:23people were on like the Space Ax and No, the Space X made sense.
- 56:27>> Yeah, that was not the biggest problem with that movie.
- 56:29>> No, the the problem with that movie is that he was he just said, "Oh, yeah. Oh,
- 56:34yeah. I'll make it that alien movie." And then he just made it turned it into
- 56:37what he wanted. Like that was the problem is it should have been one or the other.
- 56:40>> Yeah. >> It should have been the alien movie that they had written which was the script
- 56:45quite good >> or Ridley Scott's movie about aliens creating humanity. >> Not this hybrid.
- 56:52>> When when he smooshed them together [laughter] he [ __ ] it up. That's the problem.
- 56:58>> And we never got the sequel we wanted. >> No. Sad news.
- 57:05>> Star Wars fans. Yeah. Phil Tippet,
- 57:09famous Phil Tippet who uh who created many many many many of the special
- 57:15effects for the Star Wars films and and other films
- 57:18>> uh has gone bankrupt and has have to shutter his studio. >> Oh god. >> Uh
- 57:24>> I sort of can understand why with everything going to
- 57:28>> I thought it was a big resurgence of practical. >> You would think so. Um
- 57:35but uh yeah, no he created stopmotion animation. Um
- 57:41sorry, a Hollywood effects wizard with a specialty in stopotion animation has
- 57:44rendered aliens, machines, and monsters across Star Wars, Robocop, and Jurassic
- 57:47Park. In 1984, he and his wife found a Tippet Studio, a visual effects shop
- 57:52that has contributed to dozens of blockbusters. Like they've done so much
- 57:56stuff over the years, like just really, really incredible special effects stuff. True.
- 58:00>> You have seen their work. I mean, I'd be surprised if you're a Star Wars fan, you
- 58:05don't know the name Phil Tippet because he's such just such a big part of
- 58:09everything. Um, but just not people
- 58:14aren't, I guess, using the stuff that he um does anymore.
- 58:20Sort of a shame because now whenever you see a movie come out that's all
- 58:23practical effects, people go, "This looks so much better." >> Right. Yeah. Because
- 58:29it's it's just looks different on camera. like the fact that it's physically there.
- 58:32>> Yeah. >> Um but so so they've had to um shut down the
- 58:39company, but they're selling off a bunch of stuff. Um
- 58:43which I I don't know exactly under what
- 58:46circumstances, but like if Oh, it's in
- 58:51the past, [ __ ] Did this already happen? >> Yeah.
- 58:56>> Just publish it so that actions already happened. Yeah, they liquidated all of
- 59:01the stuff. So, if you click here, I'll put this I'll put this in here as well
- 59:04if you want to have a look and be sad about the fact that you didn't get any
- 59:07of this stuff. >> There was no way I was going to be able
- 59:10to afford any of this stuff anyway.
- 59:13>> Tip it stuff cuz I'm guessing it didn't sell for
- 59:19cheap. Probably not. So, there. Click through there
- 59:23and then you can see uh scroll down and then have a look at some of the stuff that
- 59:28>> [gasps] >> And then if you expand that out, >> yeah,
- 59:35>> AT80. And it's an AT80, not an adat. >> Just a lot of stuff. Like so much stuff.
- 59:41Some of this is obviously actual movie props and like little stop motion
- 59:46animation figures from things. Uh some of it is toys based on things that he
- 59:52made. Oh, the Cronin from uh Hellboy. His helmet. like again just they just made so much
- 59:58>> I think I know why he went bankrupt. He must have been renting so much space to
- 1:00:02store all his [laughter] stuff. [cough] >> But yeah, it's just uh Yeah, it's just
- 1:00:08sad. It's a shame. >> Yeah, just so much stuff. Yeah, just this all
- 1:00:15went for a fortune. I know it. >> Oh, of course it always does.
- 1:00:21But [sighs] yeah, >> I would love it more.
- 1:00:25you would you would have appreciated it.
- 1:00:32>> But yeah, >> mission. >> Well, before we head over to the
- 1:00:39afterparty, there is something I want to mention. It's followup. >> Okay.
- 1:00:44>> About our friend Alec Baldwin. >> Has he shot anyone else?
- 1:00:50>> Not that I'm aware of. He's not been caught shooting anybody else. >> Um,
- 1:00:54>> you still you got to run into him one day and you have to get an interview.
- 1:00:58>> I'll do my best. Yeah. Uh, well, there's a documentary coming out about the trial and
- 1:01:05>> about the trial. >> Yeah. And I think this could be good
- 1:01:07because, uh, I watched the trial
- 1:01:11>> and it was slow and boring
- 1:01:16mostly, but with bits of very compelling stuff happening.
- 1:01:20>> Yep. particularly around the story about, you know, the bullets and how
- 1:01:25somebody turned in the bullets and said these were given to me and I was told
- 1:01:29just to hold on to them and blah blah blah. There's a whole thing about how
- 1:01:32basically the the cops [ __ ] up. >> Yeah. >> Um and that's the reason
- 1:01:37basically uh >> it all just got thrown out. Got thrown out, didn't it?
- 1:01:43>> It got well the case against him was dismissed with prejudice. AK Yeah. Yes.
- 1:01:47Thrown out. He can't be charged with this crime ever. It's he's he's done. It's he's free.
- 1:01:53>> Yeah. >> Uh and no, I mean, he wasn't
- 1:01:58responsible. [clears throat] >> I I don't think like I know that yes, he
- 1:02:02pulled the trigger and and he went on TV and said he didn't, but that was just he
- 1:02:09was not mentally well and because of it all like
- 1:02:11>> and that was the worst thing his manager or whatever did for him is get out there
- 1:02:15and talk about it. >> I think they told him not to. I think
- 1:02:18they told him not to and he said, "No, I'm going to do it." >> Oh. >> Yeah.
- 1:02:21>> Yeah. It's the worst thing he ever did >> because he said a bunch of stuff that
- 1:02:24made no sense and then and he just didn't need to because the reality of it
- 1:02:28was that it turns out >> I'm sure this documentary will reveal
- 1:02:31the details. Okay, this is my recollection of it. Yep.
- 1:02:35>> There were people on set using the guns to shoot at cans and stuff like that
- 1:02:39when they weren't supposed to. >> The armorer I think had the real bullets
- 1:02:46after basically a real bullet got left in the gun. >> Mhm.
- 1:02:51>> Many many people are responsible down the chain for that and ends Alec Balden
- 1:02:56and you know people will make the argument he should have checked.
- 1:03:00>> It's not his job. We can discuss whether It's someone's actual job to go, "This
- 1:03:05gun is safe." He goes, >> "I think if you're on set and you're an
- 1:03:08actor, I guess I know he's a producer as well, but on that particular in that
- 1:03:11moment, he's an actor on set and he's been handed a gun, right? He should be
- 1:03:15able to assume >> yes, >> this is safe because someone I'm on a
- 1:03:20set. I'm on a film shoot. I'm going to be pointing this at people. I'm pulling
- 1:03:22the trigger. >> I should be able to assume somebody's double checked that this is safe." I
- 1:03:28don't think you can blame him. That's just my opinion. Um, >> no, I I agree with that.
- 1:03:34>> And then the the trial they found that
- 1:03:38the bullets had been given to somebody to take care of, aka hidden, I
- 1:03:45[laughter] think. Uh, and then that person had eventually thought
- 1:03:49something's not right. Took them to the police >> and the police filed them under the
- 1:03:55wrong case number. They made a new case by mistake or were trying to for
- 1:04:02whatever reason. >> Yeah. >> They they filed under a different case
- 1:04:05number and then the bullets disappeared for a while and then during the trial
- 1:04:10the the subject of the bullets came up and the prosecution tried to say, "Oh
- 1:04:15no, that's not relevant." And the judge said, "I want to see the bullets. Bring
- 1:04:19the bullets." And so they bring literally bring the bullets into the
- 1:04:22courtroom and they compare them to the bullet that shot
- 1:04:25>> uh what's it the cinematographer and the same bullets and the judge was like you
- 1:04:30[ __ ] up like >> case dismissed with prejudice like yeah
- 1:04:34he cannot be tried now it's impossible >> which I for me he should never have been
- 1:04:40on trial. The armor was the one >> and I think if they had the bullets it
- 1:04:45would have been very different. That's what the judges the whole point was that
- 1:04:48the judge said like you [ __ ] this case up like we should have had these bullets. >> Yep.
- 1:04:54>> It would have been very Well, so she did get prison time
- 1:04:57>> and I think she's appealing on the basis that that that happened. But I don't
- 1:05:02know that that'll work because the evidence [laughter]
- 1:05:05that made Alec Baldwin innocent makes her look guilty. So it's kind
- 1:05:10>> makes her even guiltier. >> Yeah, maybe just leave it. Like you were
- 1:05:13the armorer who was letting people [ __ ] around with the guns. >> Yeah.
- 1:05:17>> And then were in charge of making sure that the guns were safe and the gun
- 1:05:21wasn't safe. Like that's little >> her own. >> I can understand her thinking, well,
- 1:05:26hang on. If they [ __ ] the case up, does that mean I also
- 1:05:29>> get So, but I I don't know that would go well because like again, the evidence
- 1:05:33that messed the case up >> incriminates her. So, >> yes.
- 1:05:37>> Yeah. So anyway, this documentary about the court case and presumably about the
- 1:05:42the shooting itself uh has been
- 1:05:47uh let's see let's see the rights have been given to Rory Kennedy um who is a
- 1:05:53Oscarinning documentarian and so he will be making this documentary the trial of
- 1:05:58Alec Baldwin. Well, documentary I'm guessing most of the footage has already
- 1:06:04been filmed in. [snorts] >> Well, it's I assume it's footage of the
- 1:06:07court case. Yeah. And then probably interviews and stuff, too. >> Yeah.
- 1:06:11>> Okay. I I I probably might watch this. >> Oh, it's coming out in October,
- 1:06:15actually. You know what? There you go. It's even It's even more uh more
- 1:06:18complete than I thought. It's coming out in October. >> Excellent. >> Yeah.
- 1:06:20>> Got a couple of months. >> I think it'll be interesting because
- 1:06:23like I said, mostly the court case wasn't very interesting, but there were
- 1:06:25a few moments that I'm glad I saw. >> Yes. because they were just so to me like [gasps]
- 1:06:32>> like >> well that's what court cases are. They're not not a lot happens for a lot
- 1:06:36of it and then >> cuz even with even just interviewing
- 1:06:40someone um asking them questions, you have to set a lot of questions up to
- 1:06:44confirm who they are and what their job is like until you get to the important stuff.
- 1:06:49>> Yeah. And just watching the judge question the prosecutor about those
- 1:06:53bullets and watching her clearly realize, oh [ __ ] [laughter] like we
- 1:06:58screwed this up. And then the moment when the judge said, yeah, case
- 1:07:01dismissed with prejudice. And you can just see Alec Baldwin being like, oh my
- 1:07:05god, thank [ __ ] that's over. Like, >> well, he's probably having that over,
- 1:07:09but even like he went through a lot during that time. Like he at the end of
- 1:07:13the day, he did shoot someone and he's not h that would have been hard on him.
- 1:07:18>> Yeah, I know. People People were very hard on him about it. >> Oh, hello.
