- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here. And it's Yvonne, too.
- 0:15Hello Yvonne, it's Friday. It is the 22nd of May.
- 0:19How are you going? I'm going great.
- 0:21And you know how sometimes you give us an interesting little
- 0:24tidbit about today is actually the International Day of Eating
- 0:28Lasagna? That is not today, but.
- 0:33What is today Yvonne? Today is called National Don't
- 0:37Fry Day and no. That is fried.
- 0:40I don't fry day. And that is not about eating
- 0:44vegetables that are not fried, It is actually about the
- 0:49National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention started this
- 0:52initiative about not getting sunburnt.
- 0:55That's very topical in our house for certain children of ours
- 0:58loving to go fishing without correct sun gear on and getting
- 1:01burnt. Yes, but not anymore.
- 1:03Definitely. They've turned over a new leaf
- 1:05with that. They're doing great, great
- 1:07improvement. You know who you are.
- 1:10And I was amazed to read that it was actually 1894 that they
- 1:15first realised that sunlight and being sunburned actually cause
- 1:18skin cancer. That's like 130 years ago.
- 1:23We've known that this is a bad thing.
- 1:26That is a very long time ago and I am definitely giving away my
- 1:31age here, but I remember as a girl the Slip Slop Slap Sun
- 1:36safety campaign which was actually launched way back in
- 1:391981, which is quite a while ago now. 45 years ago, but it's
- 1:44still so useful. We often say slip, slop, slap.
- 1:46Yes, we do. Very cool.
- 1:51And just like sunscreen can protect us from being burnt,
- 1:54wisdom can protect us from being burnt too.
- 1:58Yes it can. Being burnt by bad decisions in
- 2:00life. So how about let's dive in,
- 2:02shall we? And let's read together Proverbs
- 2:0524 verses one to seven. Don't envy evil people or desire
- 2:19their company. For their hearts, plot violence
- 2:23and their words always stir up trouble.
- 2:27A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good
- 2:30sense. Through knowledge, its rooms are
- 2:33filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.
- 2:38The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge
- 2:42grow stronger and stronger. So don't go to war without wise
- 2:47guidance. Victory depends on having many
- 2:50advisers. Wisdom is too lofty for fools
- 2:54among leaders at the city gate. They have nothing to say.
- 3:01And again. Don't envy evil people or desire
- 3:06their company. For their hearts, plot violence
- 3:10and their words always stir up trouble.
- 3:13A house is built by wisdom and becomes strong through good
- 3:17sense. Through knowledge, its rooms are
- 3:20filled with all sorts of precious riches and valuables.
- 3:25The wise are mightier than the strong, and those with knowledge
- 3:28grow stronger and stronger. So don't go to war without wise
- 3:32guidance. Victory depends on having many
- 3:35advisers. Wisdom is too lofty for fools
- 3:40among leaders at the city gate. They have nothing to say.
- 3:53Well, that is a cool little section, isn't it?
- 3:58It's a great picture isn't it? I just have this mental picture
- 4:00of this amazing, well built, strong house.
- 4:05That and wisdom I need more of. It and it's so interesting, you
- 4:10know, we love collecting stuff. We love going shopping and
- 4:12coming home with things to fill up our rooms.
- 4:15But this is that. It's knowledge that fills up our
- 4:17rooms. You know it.
- 4:19It makes us think about learning and being wise and having
- 4:23knowledge, and that is what fills the rooms of our lives
- 4:27with good things. And the rooms of our heart.
- 4:30Yeah, that's that's wonderful. Really wonderful.
- 4:33And I love how it says don't go to war without wise guidance.
- 4:37How often do we want to go to war?
- 4:38How often do we read an email and like, write?
- 4:41I'm gonna set them straight. Slow down.
- 4:44Let's get some wise guidance before we go to war right it?
- 4:48Sounds like sage advice. Well, Lord, thank you for this
- 4:53sage advice. Thank you that you place wisdom
- 4:56at the heart of everything that we should be aspiring toward.
- 5:00And wisdom is not us getting smarter and smarter, but us
- 5:04relying more and more on you. Well, thank you that you are a
- 5:10God who can be known. And we know you because he gave
- 5:14us Jesus and we look at him and his life and we know and we see
- 5:19that you are a God of grace and a God of justice, but a God of
- 5:24mercy. And so we thank you that you
- 5:27reach into our lives and that we can bit by bit have a bit of
- 5:32knowledge by bit of knowledge learn to know you more and to be
- 5:36wiser depending on you. So may this always be the goal
- 5:42of our lives. And each day we love you and we
- 5:45praise you. And it's in the name of Jesus
- 5:48that we pray these things. Amen.
- 5:49Amen.
