- 0:00Speaker 1: The Mark simoniall on sevent tenor.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Well, Michael Goodwin the finest columns in America. You can
- 0:10Speaker 2: read his column every Sunday and every Wednesday in the
- 0:13Speaker 2: New York Post. And if you go to the New
- 0:15Speaker 2: York Post website, all of his columns are up there.
- 0:17Speaker 2: You should read them all. And he's with us right now,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Michael Goodwin, how you doing okay?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Mark? Thank you? Hey? I love the.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yesterday's call him about crazy Mom Donnie and his tax
- 0:28Speaker 2: the rich. And you know, this is science to an economy.
- 0:33Speaker 2: We know what works, we know what doesn't work. What
- 0:36Speaker 2: happened to follow the science? Socialism has been tried ten
- 0:40Speaker 2: thousand times, failed every time. That's the experiment. That's so,
- 0:44Speaker 2: that's right.
- 0:45Speaker 1: And it's almost as though he's financially illiterate and doesn't
- 0:51Speaker 1: want to learn.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I mean, this whole.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Thing could come crashing down on him if he's not
- 0:57Speaker 1: careful about the fium on in the city.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Yeah. He starts with Ken Griffin, and then a bunch
- 1:05Speaker 2: of others, Bill Ackman and Steve Roth joined in to
- 1:08Speaker 2: defend Ken Griffin. These billionaires pay all the taxes, and
- 1:13Speaker 2: apparently Texas now is going after them. Luring them down there.
- 1:17Speaker 2: What do you think will happen? Can these guys somehow
- 1:21Speaker 2: wake up or educate mom Downey?
- 1:24Speaker 1: You know, Mark, you would think that he would want
- 1:28Speaker 1: that for his own political success and to make his
- 1:33Speaker 1: dream come true, because if he wants a lot more
- 1:38Speaker 1: tax money to fund the giveaways, now what he's doing
- 1:45Speaker 1: is actually going to result in probably fewer jobs and
- 1:51Speaker 1: the fewer tax players and therefore less money for the
- 1:56Speaker 1: government to spend. So at some point his policy is
- 2:01Speaker 1: self defeating for his own goals, and it's because he
- 2:07Speaker 1: doesn't seem to connect a B and C together in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the way that the economy works.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, what kind of politician is he? You know,
- 2:18Speaker 2: every politician, even Deblasio, when there's billionaires, here's my cell number,
- 2:22Speaker 2: call me if you need anything. They don't favor that, right,
- 2:24Speaker 2: they're crazy and get donations in return. Does this mean
- 2:27Speaker 2: he's Mamdani is actually honest?
- 2:31Speaker 1: I don't know that he's honest as much as much
- 2:35Speaker 1: as he is.
- 2:35Speaker 3: A socialist, true believer.
- 2:39Speaker 1: I really think he believes that nonsense, which is pretty amazing.
- 2:44Speaker 1: But a lot of his followers do too. I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 1: anybody who voted for him on the belief that he
- 2:53Speaker 1: was going to be able to fund every giveaway conceivable
- 2:58Speaker 1: under the sun. They're also ignorant, and they believe in
- 3:03Speaker 1: this socialist dream which has been destroyed every time it's
- 3:09Speaker 1: been tried in history. And yet he and they keep
- 3:14Speaker 1: marching on. And I say, we shouldn't exempt Governor Hockel
- 3:19Speaker 1: because she claims to be a moderate, etc.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Etc.
- 3:24Speaker 1: But she is behind this Pierre to tear tax. If
- 3:28Speaker 1: it weren't for her, it would not have passed.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Yeah, hey, you know what, maybe don't know. Andrew Cuomo
- 3:35Speaker 2: does a radio show, probably the world's worst radio show.
- 3:37Speaker 2: But if you listen to this, you can't believe this guy.
- 3:40Speaker 2: He goes on and on and but Democrats are too
- 3:42Speaker 2: far to the left and they're crazy with this Pierre
- 3:45Speaker 2: to terror attacks and the snow baild. He's the guy
- 3:47Speaker 2: that created all this stuff. He's the guy that started
- 3:50Speaker 2: talking about that Pierre to terror taxs. He was to
- 3:52Speaker 2: the left of everybody. Well, is he just delusional or
- 3:55Speaker 2: is he lying?
- 3:57Speaker 1: I think when he did those things, he was seeking
- 4:03Speaker 1: the votes of the left, and it was his way
- 4:08Speaker 1: of accommodating the progressive wave that was overtaking the government.
- 4:14Speaker 3: New York government.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Back in it's twenty eighteen, which is the Trump first
- 4:21Speaker 1: term mid term, And if you're a call, Mark, the
- 4:24Speaker 1: Progressors took over the state Senate and they added to
- 4:29Speaker 1: the Democrats control of the Assembly. So Cuomo was kind
- 4:33Speaker 1: of running away from them, but he decided he would
- 4:38Speaker 1: embrace them with the so called bail reform, raise the age,
- 4:44Speaker 1: all kinds of things that he did trying to keep.
- 4:48Speaker 3: The left at bay.
- 4:50Speaker 1: But now for him to criticize it, some hypocrisy involved.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Yeah, So back then, White couldn't he had all the
- 4:59Speaker 2: senior leaders of the Democrats in New York. He had Schumer,
- 5:01Speaker 2: and you had Cuomo, and you had children. Why didn't
- 5:05Speaker 2: they just stand up these guys and put their finger
- 5:09Speaker 2: in the damn there, they'll just stop it from happening.
- 5:12Speaker 3: That's a very good point.
- 5:14Speaker 1: My immediate response, Mark is that the three people you
- 5:19Speaker 1: mentioned don't get along with each other necessarily, and Cuomo
- 5:24Speaker 1: didn't get along.
- 5:25Speaker 3: With any of them. Quote. That's the thing about Cuomo.
- 5:30Speaker 1: When he left allbody, of course, under the harassment and
- 5:34Speaker 1: the nursing home scandals, not a single person there stood
- 5:40Speaker 1: up for him. These are people he had known and
- 5:43Speaker 1: worked with for a decade. Not a single one raised
- 5:47Speaker 1: their hand and said no, no, let's keep them as
- 5:50Speaker 1: a governor.
- 5:51Speaker 3: Let's give him another chance.
- 5:53Speaker 1: If he had not resigned, he would have been impeached
- 5:56Speaker 1: and convicted.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Well, it's just it's just awful. But what's gonna happen here?
- 6:04Speaker 2: I mean, you might lose a couple of billionaires, but
- 6:06Speaker 2: will you've seen them come and go? Will we get
- 6:08Speaker 2: through four years of mom DOMMI will be okay at
- 6:10Speaker 2: the end of this.
- 6:13Speaker 3: I think it will depend.
- 6:16Speaker 1: On the circumstances and will there be enough of a
- 6:21Speaker 1: pushback against SOCO, against Mom Donnie that will slow down
- 6:28Speaker 1: this reckless race to the left with more taxes, more regulations. Uh, if,
- 6:36Speaker 1: if that happens, I mean, right now it looks as
- 6:41Speaker 1: though Hoko is headed for reelections. I don't know, but yeah,
- 6:48Speaker 1: well it's early. But if you had to make a
- 6:51Speaker 1: guest based on the present circumstances, so I think that
- 6:56Speaker 1: there has to be a shock to the system, whether
- 6:59Speaker 1: it's bankruptcy in the city or election changes. But you
- 7:04Speaker 1: think back to the city's fiscal crisis in the mid
- 7:09Speaker 1: to late seventies and early eighties.
- 7:13Speaker 3: I mean, you needed to.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Get rid of the mayor Abraham Deem at the time,
- 7:17Speaker 1: and you needed a real loose system of controls that
- 7:22Speaker 1: took it out of the mayor's hands. That's what we're
- 7:26Speaker 1: gonna need. I'm afraid in the city again.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah. Hey, now, Bruce Blakeman, I know he's behind. He
- 7:32Speaker 2: was a twenty points behind in the real polls. Now
- 7:34Speaker 2: he's like eight nine points behind. But that's the way
- 7:36Speaker 2: he was in Nassau County and he's still won both times.
- 7:40Speaker 2: So that's his pattern. I think he's got a good shot,
- 7:44Speaker 2: don't rule him out.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So he's definitely has a shot, no question about it.
- 7:50Speaker 1: I'm a little concerned that he seems almost invisible. He's
- 7:56Speaker 1: not out there in a kind of aggressive, energetic way.
- 8:00Speaker 1: I think that will get him the attention he needs.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I refer in my column to a poll A Center
- 8:08Speaker 1: poll worth sixty four percent of New York State voters
- 8:13Speaker 1: said they didn't know him or anything about him. That
- 8:19Speaker 1: some had never heard of him. So I think he's
- 8:23Speaker 1: got to break through and that barrier. He has to
- 8:26Speaker 1: give people a new reason to give him a serious look.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he is working day and night, though he's all
- 8:33Speaker 2: over the state. He's doing a million interviews, He's doing
- 8:36Speaker 2: a million appearances. But he's got to You're right, he's
- 8:38Speaker 2: got to get that, get more coverage, and he needs
- 8:41Speaker 2: more money to do it.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I think I think it's an energy thing too. He
- 8:46Speaker 1: has to kind of break through the news cycle. He
- 8:50Speaker 1: has to break through the sense of that she's inevitable.
- 8:55Speaker 1: I think he has to get get people to enough
- 8:58Speaker 1: people to call into question and then that makes it
- 9:02Speaker 1: a real race.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yeah, so, hey, what about this crazy AOC Now she's
- 9:07Speaker 2: talking about higher office. She also gotten a lot of flack.
- 9:14Speaker 2: She argued that the American Revolution was to get away
- 9:17Speaker 2: from the billionaires, and then everybody online, I know, explain
- 9:20Speaker 2: things to her that Washington was a billionaire by you know,
- 9:24Speaker 2: by today's standards back then. So she has no future,
- 9:28Speaker 2: does she outside of Senate?
- 9:31Speaker 3: I hope not.
- 9:34Speaker 1: I wonder what she thinks the Boston tea party was about,
- 9:37Speaker 1: just because Jillnaire is like.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Tea or something. I mean, what a what a whack job?
- 9:44Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Michael Goodwin, great talking to you, and keep
- 9:48Speaker 2: up the good work. You can read his column every
- 9:49Speaker 2: Sunday every Wednesday in the New York Post. All of
- 9:52Speaker 2: his columns are up on the New York Post website.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Michael Goodwin, thanks for being.
- 9:56Speaker 3: With us, my pleasure. Thank you. Mark.
- 9:59Speaker 2: All right, take yeah, Blakeman is a hard worker. He's
- 10:03Speaker 2: out there every day and he's all over the state.
- 10:07Speaker 2: But you're right, it doesn't get the coverage it should get.
- 10:11Speaker 2: And you know, well that's a lot of the media
- 10:14Speaker 2: that's just keeping a living. But that'll change. And remember
- 10:16Speaker 2: it's very, very very early. It's a long way away.
- 10:22Speaker 2: You know, in politics, that many months is an eternity.
- 10:26Speaker 2: Same thing with the midterms. You know, everybody's trying to
- 10:27Speaker 2: predict what's going to happen in the midterms right now.
- 10:30Speaker 2: It's way too far an a. This is like trying
- 10:32Speaker 2: to predict the twenty twenty eight super Bowl. You just
- 10:35Speaker 2: can't do it this far in advance. Hey, we got
- 10:37Speaker 2: a lot to get to today. We'll get to. Hey,
- 10:41Speaker 2: we'll get to some of these colleges, some of these
- 10:42Speaker 2: college graduations have turned into really really disgusting events. We'll
- 10:48Speaker 2: get to that and a lot more coming up. Don't
- 10:50Speaker 2: forget Buck and Clay at noon today. They do a
- 10:53Speaker 2: wonderful show every day noon to three. Then you got
- 10:55Speaker 2: the most listened to radio show in America Sean Hannity
- 11:00Speaker 2: at three o'clock, and he's going to go to China
- 11:02Speaker 2: with the President this week and he'll be covering it
- 11:05Speaker 2: live for us from there. And don't forget Jimmy Fayla,
- 11:08Speaker 2: What a funny show every night nine to midnight on
- 11:11Speaker 2: seven ten wor
