Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey
- 0:03Speaker 1: and it's time right now for today's word. Don't let
- 0:08Speaker 1: yesterday poison tomorrow. Don't let yesterday poison tomorrow. Colossians 3.13 says,
- 0:17Speaker 1: forgive one another. If any of you has a grievance
- 0:21Speaker 1: against someone, forgive as the Lord forgave you. Y'all, forgiveness
- 0:27Speaker 1: is not always easy, especially when the wound is deep,
- 0:30Speaker 1: the betrayal is real, and the person... who hurt you
- 0:34Speaker 1: never apologized. But scripture tells us to forgive as the
- 0:37Speaker 1: Lord forgave us. If you study the life of David,
- 0:40Speaker 1: you'll discover that David had plenty of opportunities to become bitter.
- 0:44Speaker 2: He knew what it felt like to be rejected.
- 0:46Speaker 1: His own father overlooked him when Samuel came looking for
- 0:50Speaker 1: the next king. His oldest brother belittled him when he
- 0:54Speaker 1: showed up to face Goliath. And rather than allowing the
- 0:57Speaker 1: insult to pull him into an argument, David turned and
- 1:00Speaker 1: walked away. Then there was King Saul. Saul became so
- 1:04Speaker 1: jealous of David and repeatedly tried to kill him. David
- 1:07Speaker 1: had opportunities, y'all, to take revenge, but he refused to
- 1:12Speaker 1: allow Saul's actions to change the character.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Of his heart. David learned something we all have to learn.
- 1:21Speaker 1: You can't move forward while constantly carrying what happened behind you.
- 1:27Speaker 1: It's easy to replay the conversation, replay the betrayal, replay
- 1:31Speaker 1: what they said, replay how they treated you. And every
- 1:35Speaker 1: time you replay it, guess what? You're reliving the pain.
- 1:38Speaker 1: But unforgiveness. can become a poison that contaminates your peace,
- 1:44Speaker 1: your relationships, your joy, and even your ability to recognize
- 1:48Speaker 1: what God is doing in your life right now. That's
- 1:51Speaker 1: why forgiveness has to become a habit in your life.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Not because what happened was okay. Not because you have
- 1:59Speaker 1: to pretend it didn't hurt.
- 2:00Speaker 2: And not because.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Forgiveness means you have to give everyone unlimited access to you.
- 2:06Speaker 1: You can forgive somebody and still have boundaries with them.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Forgiveness means you refuse to allow their offense to continue
- 2:13Speaker 1: controlling your heart. When offense comes, don't invite it to
- 2:17Speaker 1: move in.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Give it to God.
- 2:19Speaker 1: Say, Lord, this hurt me, but I refuse to carry it.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I release them into your hands. And I choose to
- 2:26Speaker 1: move forward because forgiveness isn't just about freeing the person
- 2:30Speaker 1: who hurt you. Forgiveness is about freeing you. You've got
- 2:33Speaker 1: too much purpose ahead of you to spend the rest
- 2:36Speaker 1: of your life in prison by something that happened behind you.
- 2:39Speaker 1: So forgive daily, release quickly, give your wounds to God
- 2:43Speaker 1: and keep moving toward everything he's called you to become.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Don't let yesterday's pain, poison, tomorrow's promise.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Come on, Jesus.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Father, thank you for forgiving us and cleansing us and
- 2:55Speaker 1: giving us another chance.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Help us to release every.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Offense, every betrayal, every hurt, every painful memory that we've
- 3:02Speaker 1: been carrying. Teach us to forgive as we have been forgiven.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And God, we refuse to allow what happened yesterday to
- 3:09Speaker 1: contaminate the life that you're giving us today. Oh God,
- 3:12Speaker 1: give us wisdom to forgive while maintaining healthy boundaries. God,
- 3:16Speaker 1: we declare that we will not live in bitterness.
- 3:19Speaker 2: We will forgive daily.
- 3:20Speaker 1: We will release continually, and we will move forward in freedom, joy,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and peace and purpose.
- 3:27Speaker 2: In Jesus' name. Now, that's your word for today.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Take it and apply it to your everyday life, and
- 3:32Speaker 1: you continue to be encouraged and inspired.
- 3:35Speaker 2: It is your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
