- 0:32Welcome to the first episode of the Realtor Who wines.
- 0:35I'm Rashelle Cheers.
- 0:36I'm so happy that you're here and that you chose to listen.
- 0:39So why are you here?
- 0:41What are we going to talk about?
- 0:42What is this podcast even about?
- 0:44I love, love, love being the connector.
- 0:47That is my favorite part of being a realtor, is that you meet so many people that have different job, that provide different services.
- 0:54And everybody has a unique story.
- 0:56And I also love, love, love, love wine.
- 1:00And I find that most really great conversations happen over a glass of wine.
- 1:04And I just thought, why wouldn't I start a podcast about that?
- 1:07You know, all these great people with amazing stories.
- 1:09I know really great wine because I'm here in the Pacific Northwest in wine Country.
- 1:14And why not collaborate those two together?
- 1:17So I'm so excited that you're going to join me on this journey, and hopefully you'll learn more about wine and more about our amazing community.
- 1:24I was not born in the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:27I have to admit that I am a transplant, but I've been here since I was five, so does that count?
- 1:33I feel like that counts, right?
- 1:34I grew up in the Wilsonville, Sherwood, Newberg areas.
- 1:37I currently reside in the Newberg area, and I just absolutely love being a tourist in my own backyard.
- 1:44And not only do I love wine, obviously it's delicious and I enjoy it as a beverage, but I love the art that goes behind it the farming, the technology, the chemistry of making a delicious glass of wine.
- 1:56All of those things speak to me.
- 1:57So that is one of the reasons why I also wanted to talk about wine on this podcast.
- 2:02I feel like there's so much that goes into it, and it's so much more than a beverage.
- 2:06A lot of these bottles have great stories and amazing people behind them, so I really wanted to share that with a wide audience, and I hope that you enjoy.
- 2:16I've been a realtor for almost seven years, and during that time, I've held multiple leadership roles where I've gotten to interact and engage with people all throughout the state.
- 2:25Also, throughout the country, I traveled last year to Washington, DC with a bunch of fellow Oregon realtors, where we went to the Capitol building to talk to legislation about fair housing opportunities, how to help our military families, which is super important to me to help military families because I have multiple people in the military, in my family.
- 2:45I've been a veteran's wife, and I just totally understand the process of how buying a house or the VA loan can be, and how hard it can be to.
- 2:55So I'm very passionate about helping our heroes.
- 2:58And because as a daughter of a hero and then a former wife of a hero, I just think it's so important.
- 3:03And then I still have a ton of friends that have served our country, which, by the way, if you have served our country, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 3:09So very much.
- 3:10From the bottom of my heart, I don't think you or your loved ones get thanked enough, so thank you for that.
- 3:16I am a Disney adult, I'll admit it.
- 3:19And I love it.
- 3:19And I'm very passionate about it.
- 3:21And I guarantee you something about Disney will happen on this podcast.
- 3:25Whether it is guests talking about Disney or Disney tips and tricks, that is actually one thing I'm known for a lot of people will reach out to me and my mom because we go to Disney frequently together and they'll reach out asking you about hotels, best tips and tricks, free souvenirs, all those kinds of things.
- 3:41So stay tuned for later episodes for deep dive into all things magical of the House of mouse.
- 3:48One of the best things I've ever done in my whole life has become a mom.
- 3:54I'm the mother of an amazing nine year old girl, and she is just the light of my life and everything I do.
- 4:00I ask myself, what does she see?
- 4:02What is she learning?
- 4:04Because as if you're a parent, you know your kids are always watching whether you want them to be watching or not.
- 4:09So a lot of times I think of that before I react to anything.
- 4:13I just want to make sure, like, is this something I'd want her to see?
- 4:17And I'm human, so sometimes she sees stuff I don't want her to see, but other times she sees stuff that I'm really proud of.
- 4:22Her, really proud for her to see if that makes sense.
- 4:27you can expect as a listener to hear some things about real estate.
- 4:30Although not every episode we'll talk about real estate or even mention it, but a lot of times it will pop up because of course, a lot of the people I know in my sphere are from my industry and have a lot of things to say about homeownership opportunities within homeownership, selling houses, tips and tricks 1031 exchanges.
- 4:47First time home buyers, sellers, all those things.
- 4:50So I be doing my industry a disservice if I didn't have some of those topics included on this podcast, so I'd love to share those things with you.
- 4:59As a realtor, I'm really passionate about educating the general public on homeownership and what you can do to navigate and also grow your own equity and wealth within real estate.
- 5:10I really wanted to start this podcast because I am very passionate and I love being a connector.
- 5:16If you call me and say, hey, Rochelle, who do you know that raises chickens?
- 5:20I know somebody who do you know that could help fix my car?
- 5:24I know a mechanic.
- 5:25Who do you know?
- 5:26If I want veneers, I know somebody.
- 5:29So I love just being a connector and a student of life.
- 5:32And I love learning about everybody's jobs, too, because they're all so interesting.
- 5:37So on this podcast, you will get to explore that with me.
- 5:41Normally over a cup or glass of wine.
- 5:43Depending on if we're on location or not.
- 5:46But I do plan on interviewing a lot of people within our community.
- 5:50Small business owners, or even big business owners who started small.
- 5:55We all grow from somewhere.
- 5:56I have a very big business mindset, and I'm an entrepreneur at heart, and so I just love seeing that entrepreneurial spirit, be championed and its own environment and atmosphere.
- 6:06And I really want to share that with you.
- 6:08As a realtor that wines, you can also expect to see me on location at some of my favorite wineries in the Pacific Northwest, engaging with the winemakers, the owners, the farmers, sometimes those are all three different people, sometimes they're all the same person.
- 6:23So I love sharing those stories.
- 6:24I hope that you join me as we also tour the Pacific Northwest together.
- 6:29I also want to not only just tour wineries, but mom and pop shops, brick and mortar stores on location to really share with you what the Pacific Northwest has to offer.
- 6:41For my first four episodes, you can expect to hear from someone from the wine industry, someone from the real estate industry, a local fellow, business owner here in the Portland Metro.
- 6:53And then actually another person from the wine industry.
- 6:55So definitely stay tuned to hear more about them, their business, their story, and how they connect with them.
- 7:03also, do you have a favorite wine that you're drinking?
- 7:06I would love to know what's in your glass, whether it's from the Pacific Northwest or not. Definitely share it with me.
- 7:11We will do reviews here on the podcast and talk about different wines, where they're available and what they pair with.
- 7:17what I find so unique about wine is how much it can change what you're eating.
- 7:22So obviously, I'm a foodie.
- 7:24These curves come honest.
- 7:26And what I love about wine is that it really can enhance a meal or ruin it.
- 7:31Like, and it also can.
- 7:32What you're eating can also enhance the wine.
- 7:34And I have never been a science person.
- 7:37That's why I was a theater arts major and now I'm a realtor.
- 7:40But I still love the how science works between food and wine and how they really impact each other and can really change your meal experience and how you enjoy it, or what you enjoy.
- 7:53when I get wine beginners that reach out and they're like I don't know where to get started.
- 7:57I feel like I should be drinking wine.
- 7:59A lot of my friends are drinking wine.
- 7:59Where do I start?
- 8:02My first question back is always do you like sweet things?
- 8:06Do you like more dry things?
- 8:08What do you drink? That's not wine.
- 8:10So if you drink other alcohols, I will listen to what you drink and compare it to it.
- 8:15A lot of times bourbon whiskey drinkers will enjoy red wines because I like that drier and more.
- 8:22Earthy tones.
- 8:23And also, like someone told me once, I like the taste of dirt because I like charcoal.
- 8:28I like the how the barrel tastes.
- 8:30And so normally you can taste a barrel and bourbon whiskey and then red wine.
- 8:34And so someone's like, I think you like the taste of dirt.
- 8:36I've never actually tried out that theory.
- 8:38I've never spoon fed myself dirt.
- 8:39But I do love red wine, bourbon and whiskey so that makes sense.
- 8:43If you like desserts of your super dessert person.
- 8:47I would say start with, like a sweeter wine or a sparkling wine.
- 8:51Something a little softer to, like, guide you into it.
- 8:54If you're kind of in the middle, that's where I would recommend more of, like a mild white that's not so sweet, but also not so dry that it feels like you're drinking dirt.
- 9:03a tequila drinker.
- 9:04Well, I like tequila too, for this.
- 9:06Makes me sound like a raging alcoholic.
- 9:06Tell you, I'm not.
- 9:09I just enjoy spirits.
- 9:11Speaking of which, anybody want to be a sponsor?
- 9:14Just kidding.
- 9:16But if for tequila drinkers, I would lean towards some of the fruity or like, the pear wines to introduce you to wine.
- 9:25Something that has a little bit of zest to it.
- 9:27Sort of crisper white wine or sparkling mine that you would probably have over ice.
- 9:33And for the huge windows, by the way, no one said I was a wine aficionado.
- 9:37I'm a wine enthusiast. Okay.
- 9:39I did not study wine.
- 9:40I'm not as familiar.
- 9:40I can barely say some.
- 9:44I just enjoy wine.
- 9:46And I enjoy Oregon agriculture and supporting local businesses.
- 9:50So take my suggestions for what they are.
- 9:52Just suggestions.
- 9:53By the way, we have a rule.
- 9:55If you're wine tasting after two stops, you buy no wine because you're not going to actually remember what it tastes like and you're going to go home and you're going to open it.
- 10:03And you remember, like, I remember this being really good.
- 10:05Well, it was really good after you had two stops of wine tasting.
- 10:09Always buy at the first or second wine stop.
- 10:11And then for the rest of the time, just enjoy your tastings and make a note to go back before you buy any wine.
- 10:16That's just my $0.02.
- 10:17That's my money.
- 10:19Budget tips for you when it comes to buying wine so that you don't get home and have a surprise.
- 10:26That's very true, actually.
- 10:27I live and die by that statement.
- 10:32I love.
- 10:32Tell us about the bottles you have today.
- 10:34What did you. Oh, sure. So.
- 10:37For my first episode, I brought three bottles of wine with me today.
- 10:41Parrot Wine Co is one of my favorite local wines.
- 10:44Sam Parra is a local Latino winemaker.
- 10:48He has won so many awards, but he's also one of the only well-known Latino winemakers in the area.
- 10:55And and that's an throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- 10:58Sam is amazing.
- 10:59You can find him at different pop ups, like at First Fridays in Newburgh, different tasting rooms or, restaurants and things like that.
- 11:08He has desert wines all the way to a red wine.
- 11:12I just adore Sam and his line.
- 11:14His line is delicious.
- 11:15Right now I'm holding the 2022 Chardonnay from Eola, Amity Hills Ava for you.
- 11:21White nose out there, and then Dobs family wine and, dandy Oregon.
- 11:27This is their rosé.
- 11:29I love Dobbs.
- 11:30I actually recommend Dobbs a lot to people that love red wine.
- 11:34Because their red wines are, They're so good.
- 11:37Full bodies, lots of flavor.
- 11:39But I have the rosé here because I don't love all roses.
- 11:42But I do love Jersey.
- 11:45And then one of my favorite local wineries is Fox Farm.
- 11:49This is a 2018 Pinot noir, also from the L.A.
- 11:53Emily Hills.
- 11:54Fox Farm is also in Dundee, Oregon.
- 11:56The tasting room is just right there off of 99 and then his vineyard is here.
- 12:01He also sources grapes from all throughout the Pacific Northwest.
- 12:04That's one thing that you'll learn as you travel throughout the Pacific Northwest is a lot of the wineries do grow their own grapes, but it's normally just a certain variety because of where we're at and then they'll source grapes from other wineries, including from Washington, California, sometimes Idaho.
- 12:22But mostly it's up and down I-5, if you think about it that way.
- 12:25Or a little bit more to like Walla Walla ish area and Washington, but different climates.
- 12:32Mountain, sunshine, rain.
- 12:35You know, they're all impacts farming, right?
- 12:37So that impacts the grapes and where they come from.
- 12:39So all three of these wineries have grapes here grown here locally and the Willamette Valley and the Dundee Hills.
- 12:46But then they also source grapes from other places too.
- 12:49I would say if you're trying to get wine cheaply and good wine, Trader Joe's is a great ally, and so is, Grocery Outlet, both of those, you can find really great wines for really reasonable pricing.
- 13:06And that's where I tend to go if I need to buy, like if I'm going to a party where I don't know the people that are true wine drinkers or they're just having like a wine night book club, I'll go to Trader Joe's or Grocery Outlet first before I bring something out of my own private collection.
- 13:20Just because Nola tends to you wine beginners.
- 13:24But I don't want to waste the good wine on you.
- 13:25I want to introduce you to something a little softer.
- 13:28And on my, pocketbook and to your palate.
- 13:31So it's a win win for both of us.
- 13:33But if I'm going somewhere to a friend's house or wine tasting, or I know everybody there drinks wine, they love wine.
- 13:39They have certain things that they like.
- 13:41I'll bring wine to accommodate them.
- 13:42And so normally that comes from my private collection.
- 13:45But yeah, Grocery Outlet, Trader Joe's, those are two great options.
- 13:50Fred Meyers also has a great selection.
- 13:53It's not normally as cheap as that.
- 13:56what got me into wine at first was the socialization of it.
- 14:01Like being the connector.
- 14:02I love people, I like talking to people.
- 14:04And so wine tasting has always been a fun activity for me because you're engaging with people, you know, and then you're also engaging with people you don't know because normally you go wine tasting with some girl friends or family and then, you meet people while you're there, wine tasting, and everybody else is also there, wine tasting.
- 14:21And so it's just a fun experience.
- 14:23I started off as somebody that just wanted super sweet, as sugary as you could be to just stomach it, but I was really there for the like, socialization and the experience.
- 14:34And now I go knowing just like anything, right?
- 14:38Like once you have some taste and like, you know what you like and you've tried enough, like now I go like specifically to also just try the wine as well as the socialization to it.
- 14:51But yeah, there was nothing specific that got me into loving wine.
- 14:55Besides just the actual social activity of it.
- 14:59I can be found at wineries now alone.
- 15:03There's a couple other realtors that I love to work with and we like to call it wine and work.
- 15:09And we will show up to a local winery and pull out our laptops and actually be working.
- 15:14But we'll share a glass of wine and then also bounce ideas off each other around real estate, around marketing, or just trouble points that we're having.
- 15:23If you're new to wine, I say try it with a friend, and if you don't have a friend, reach out to me.
- 15:29I would love to take you wine tasting or give you some suggestions on where to go if you're going to explore by yourself.
- 15:36That will have a fun atmosphere where you don't feel like you're by yourself.
- 15:40one thing that I find I lived, I went to school at Kansas State University, and right after I graduated from Kansas State, my then husband and I moved to Kansas City.
- 15:52And so I actually lived. And yes, I am a Chiefs fan.
- 15:55Okay, I love them.
- 15:56I was a fan of them before they were amazing, and I'm still a fan of them now that they're amazing.
- 16:01But I lived in Kansas City for ten years, and Midwest Wine and Pacific Northwest Line, they're not the same.
- 16:08And, one thing that I did experience when I lived in the Midwest and so I've, I've gone to wineries all over the United States.
- 16:17But one thing in the Midwest that I always found really interesting is a lot of them also offer grape juice tasting to nonwhite drinkers, but to the kids to keep kids entertained.
- 16:28And that's fun for them.
- 16:29And a lot of times it's just ocean spray, cran grape ocean spray, peach, grape, ocean spray, raspberry, grape like.
- 16:36But they're having fun.
- 16:37And from a marketing standpoint, I love marketing, I love business, I love sales.
- 16:42It's genius because you're fostering that kind of culture where it's like, okay to have just a little amount.
- 16:49First of all, because the tasting is that right?
- 16:52It's controlled, pours.
- 16:54It's not just about like, oh, radio or partying, but it's like controlled pours and actually experiencing the wine.
- 16:59But same for the grape juice tastings for the kids.
- 17:02It's teaching them one how to engage in that kind of atmosphere, as well as being out like, you know, in public amongst adults.
- 17:09But then they're also having fun and getting to explore a little bit, too, of like, what does it mean to taste different things of one, you know, of juice?
- 17:16Or what does it mean to pair your juice with a cookie palette, you know, things like that.
- 17:20So that's one thing I think the Midwest does really well as incorporate the kiddos in that way, where it's also building them clients for the future.
- 17:30Seriously, that's what it is.
- 17:31It's smart.
- 17:32It's good marketing.
- 17:33I was just recently in Disney World or.
- 17:36No, I wasn't I was in Disneyland.
- 17:38I am currently planning a trip to Disney World, so that's top of mind.
- 17:43But I was just recently at Disneyland.
- 17:45They have a few new, lounges open that we went kid free this trip, and so we checked out there's a new Scottish, lounge at the Grand Californian that we wanted to check out.
- 17:58And there's the Broken Spell Lounge at the Disneyland Hotel that we wanted to check out, as well as, of course, enjoy.
- 18:04And Disney and all its magic.
- 18:05But it was kind of cool to see some of the different, spirits and drinks that they also come up with.
- 18:10The Imagineers are very inventive, which is what makes Disney so magical.
- 18:17What's your favorite ride at Disney?
- 18:20Oh gosh.
- 18:22I would say my favorite experience at Disney is the rise of the resistance.
- 18:30It's to the, grand to call it a ride because you also, it is a whole experience.
- 18:38If I were to work any ride or experience at Disney as I would first, I want to be a tour guide because I think that would be super fun.
- 18:46But I would love to be on the rise of the resistance and be one of the, people that doesn't have to be nice and is like making you feel like you're in jail, you know, and all those things.
- 18:55I want to give too much away.
- 18:58If you haven't been to Disneyland in the last couple of years or experienced the rise of the resistance, but it's a game changer.
- 19:04Even if you don't like Star Wars, you cannot go on that and get off of it and not be impressed at the grandeur of it.
- 19:12Even if you have no idea what's going on.
- 19:14Like, what do you mean, what's a star?
- 19:17What's a Tie fighter?
- 19:18Yeah, but you can definitely appreciate how much goes into the rise of the resistance from a nostalgic standpoint.
- 19:26Peter Pan will always be one of my favorites.
- 19:29It's just.
- 19:31Yeah, that's one I always remember from childhood.
- 19:34I love the Peter Pan ride.
- 19:36Pirates is always a good nostalgic one, too.
- 19:39There's nothing, more magical than the smell of pirates rides any Disney adult will always like.
- 19:46Look at a picture of pirates or cereal or TikTok and be like, I can smell this real because it has such a distinct smell.
- 19:52When you're on Pirates of the Caribbean and then of course, one of my favorite things at Disney is fantastic because who doesn't like to see Mickey Mouse one over and over again?
- 20:04Tell us what's your favorite snack at Disney popcorn?
- 20:09The popcorn is the best at Disneyland.
- 20:13And Disney World. It just smells good.
- 20:16You smell it.
- 20:17As soon as you get in there, you could be so full.
- 20:20And I've just had a huge breakfast.
- 20:21And then you walk in the park and you smell the popcorn and you're like, well, I guess I need popcorn.
- 20:26I just had this past week while I was at Disneyland.
- 20:29Dill pickle popcorn from Cars Land.
- 20:32And if you like dill pickles and you like popcorn.
- 20:34Ooh, those two married together are an amazing relationship.
- 20:38And delicious.
- 20:39It was amazing.
- 20:39I loved every second of it.
- 20:42love partnering with other entrepreneurs and people in business and, and leadership.
- 20:50There's just a certain mindset that goes with all of those roles.
- 20:53And that's how I constantly find myself in leadership roles.
- 20:56Sometimes I'm men, volunteered to be in those roles, and sometimes I'm elected and sometimes I sign myself up.
- 21:01But most recently, I was the 2024, president for the Women's Council of Realtors in Portland, Oregon.
- 21:08And then I'm currently the Oregon director for the Women to Women Network.
- 21:13And then I sit on a few other boards just because I feel like it's really important to give back to your community to serve in that way.
- 21:20A lot of times they don't have the dollars to, like, pay for somebody with certain skills or experience.
- 21:26Especially like one of the boards I sit on is for Aurora, the Aurora, Oregon is a tiny town.
- 21:32There's like 900 people there, and their biggest festival is called Aurora Colony Days.
- 21:37And that's where they all come together in August.
- 21:39And so I serve them as a marketing person and social media, and I like to share my skill set in that way, because before I was on real estate, I did work for corporate America as a digital marketer, and I like to be able to pass on that skill set and use it for evil.
- 21:55I mean good, not evil. Haha. No.
- 21:57I like to use my, talents for good and help the small guys win.
- 22:02And they can't afford a social media marketer.
- 22:05So I like to give my time in that way.
- 22:08I just think it's really important to be a leader and certain roles I have like no financial gain to it because you learn a lot and it just it's important.
- 22:22Like not everything is about financial gain.
- 22:25But I also that's why I'm so passionate about like the women to Women network.
- 22:30It's a volunteer role.
- 22:30My leadership role.
- 22:33I help, all the different chapters throughout the state of Oregon and help guide them in their events and communication and communicating with nationals.
- 22:44And it's amazing to see the spirit of an entrepreneur, a woman, and how much they support each other.
- 22:53And collaboration over competition is such an impactful thing and a message I definitely want my daughter to learn.
- 22:59And so I continue to surround myself with groups like the Women's Council, Realtors, and Women's Women Network.
- 23:05So because I also want my daughter to see that, that like there's such a huge power when women come together.
- 23:10Not to say that we're men haters or anything, that that we love, the men that support us in our business and our growth and our leadership.
- 23:17But there's something to be said when women are pitted against each other and instead they're in each other's corners, raising each other up.
- 23:23So I love being a part of those organizations, and they're very important to me.
- 23:28can definitely find me on most social media platforms and I'll, I'll be connected here with my podcast and on those videos.
