- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to the Favorites, the podcast from the Action Network.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Guy Am Chad Moman Uh listen, it is Tuesday morning.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Last night I watched the Sixers and the Nets play
- 0:23Speaker 1: and I watched the Sixers score fifty one points in
- 0:25Speaker 1: the third quarter to tie an NBA playoff record, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: I thought, well, that's going to be the action for
- 0:31Speaker 1: the night, and then the Clippers and the Warriors play it.
- 0:33Speaker 1: And I can't think of anyone better to come on
- 0:35Speaker 1: and discuss all of the NBA action then worldwide Web.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Rob Perez of the Action Network, who did an epic
- 0:43Speaker 1: twenty four minute periscope last night late night to catch
- 0:47Speaker 1: us all up on it. He's gonna rehash everything from
- 0:50Speaker 1: the evening this morning. Bob, How you doing, buddy? This
- 0:55Speaker 1: is why you can't work to cover the NBA and
- 0:59Speaker 1: be on the East code in life was so much
- 1:01Speaker 1: easier in lons Ange plus complete games that don't end
- 1:04Speaker 1: until two a m. And it's five to m before
- 1:07Speaker 1: you're actually getting done doing content or watching inside the
- 1:11Speaker 1: NBA or whatever the hell it is you're doing. But
- 1:14Speaker 1: I guess that's what we signed up for. So good
- 1:17Speaker 1: morning to YouTube, Chad. Listen. I appreciate waking me up.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I will say. I will say that. You know, I
- 1:24Speaker 1: was watching that game last night. I knew you were
- 1:25Speaker 1: coming on the podcast this morning because we had set
- 1:27Speaker 1: this up before the games, and I'm thinking to myself, well,
- 1:31Speaker 1: he's probably gonna do a periscope. This guy is not
- 1:33Speaker 1: going to bed. I don't think he's going to bed
- 1:35Speaker 1: the entire night. And I half thought of, you know what,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I'll text him right now and say, don't worry about it,
- 1:42Speaker 1: we'll catch another time. And then I thought, well, if
- 1:44Speaker 1: you really doesn't want to do it, it'll just text
- 1:45Speaker 1: me and be like, I'm way too tired. I appreciate
- 1:48Speaker 1: your professionalism. If you did that, I would have never
- 1:51Speaker 1: spoken to you again because I wrote an article, I
- 1:55Speaker 1: did a periscope by set an alarm just for this,
- 1:58Speaker 1: and if I woke up to him, we're not doing
- 1:59Speaker 1: this text. We would have had problems. We would have words,
- 2:04Speaker 1: but we have had the kind of words that Patrick
- 2:06Speaker 1: Beverly is having with Kevin Durant right now. That is insane,
- 2:11Speaker 1: absolutely insane, what he's doing to him. I don't never
- 2:16Speaker 1: really know what to compare it to, but it's more
- 2:20Speaker 1: of just uh, he planted a seed, not just not
- 2:24Speaker 1: just in game two down thirty, but he didn't in
- 2:26Speaker 1: game one two, where he's just he plants the seed
- 2:30Speaker 1: of I'm Patrick Beverly and I'm here just to annoy
- 2:33Speaker 1: the crap out of you, and it doesn't it's not
- 2:36Speaker 1: even like he doesn't play. The misconception here is that
- 2:38Speaker 1: Matt Beverly plays dirty. I never really thought he plays dirty.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Sometimes he just plays too hard and creates those situations
- 2:46Speaker 1: in which one can interpret that he plays dirty. So,
- 2:49Speaker 1: for example, in game one, when Kevin Durant gets uh
- 2:52Speaker 1: got he got like an AD one call because he
- 2:54Speaker 1: did his rip through and kind of falls back, and
- 2:57Speaker 1: Patrick Beverley's like impersonating him with a flail, and they're
- 3:00Speaker 1: going back and forth and they exchange technical fouls, then
- 3:03Speaker 1: they exchange objections, and Kevin Durant said he was cool
- 3:06Speaker 1: with it. After the game, He's like, I kind of
- 3:08Speaker 1: like that. We're just trash talking. You know, nothing was
- 3:11Speaker 1: taken personally. But when you're up thirty one, you get
- 3:13Speaker 1: a win, you can say that, right, you can say
- 3:15Speaker 1: that it wasn't personal. And then Patrick Beverley keeps doing
- 3:18Speaker 1: it down thirty one and he's doing this thing at
- 3:20Speaker 1: the foul line where he's pretending to fall in every
- 3:23Speaker 1: into the paint every time Kevin Durant is taking a
- 3:26Speaker 1: free throw, and it's starting to piss him off a
- 3:28Speaker 1: little bit. And when Kevin Durant ends the game with
- 3:31Speaker 1: almost as many fouls as total shots and more turnovers
- 3:34Speaker 1: than total shots, and he's got Patrick Beverlely inside of
- 3:37Speaker 1: his shirt clapping in his space, maybe it's not a
- 3:40Speaker 1: joke anymore. And that's just it's more, it's not a
- 3:43Speaker 1: knock against Katie as much as it is a credit
- 3:46Speaker 1: and a testament. But just what Patrick Beverley is that
- 3:49Speaker 1: he's made it this far being missed exact player, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: he continues to produce and be efficient as the NBA
- 3:55Speaker 1: evolves from this nineties style basketball to pace in space
- 3:59Speaker 1: and everything is a foul. This man still continues to
- 4:03Speaker 1: this day to be an NBA starter, and a good
- 4:05Speaker 1: one at that. He is one of those guys who
- 4:09Speaker 1: he's good on every single team and yet never sticks
- 4:13Speaker 1: with anybody. Why do you think that is? I wouldn't
- 4:17Speaker 1: look so much into not sticking with teams because in
- 4:20Speaker 1: the NBA the contracts was so short and there's so
- 4:22Speaker 1: much turnover for all the players that I don't really
- 4:24Speaker 1: see it that way. But he was as a part
- 4:26Speaker 1: of that Chris Paul throw away, you know. Darryl Moray
- 4:29Speaker 1: was like, here's seven players for Chris Paul, because Chris
- 4:31Speaker 1: Paul is this almighty point guard point guard that we're
- 4:35Speaker 1: gonna pay forty million dollars to when he's thirty five
- 4:38Speaker 1: years old. Here just take Contrese Harold and Patrick Beverley Montrose.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Harrold is probably gonna finished second in six Man of
- 4:46Speaker 1: the Year, third and most improved player. Uh oh. And
- 4:49Speaker 1: Patrick Beverley, by the way, is just like an absolute
- 4:52Speaker 1: pitfall helln dog I can guard and he is a
- 4:55Speaker 1: point guard guarding Kevin Durant. In the playoffs, they put
- 4:58Speaker 1: a point guard on d and and he limited into
- 5:01Speaker 1: nine total shots, and that nine numbers inflated because it
- 5:05Speaker 1: was five going into into the final couple minutes there.
- 5:08Speaker 1: So when Kevin Durant is jack in three thirty as
- 5:13Speaker 1: they're blowing the thirty point lead with two minutes left, listen,
- 5:16Speaker 1: the Warriors sort of run their offense like Steph Curry
- 5:19Speaker 1: has to come off to off ball screens and then
- 5:21Speaker 1: he usually comes through some sort of an elevator pick,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and Kevin Durant is just launching any time he gets
- 5:26Speaker 1: open because he's had Patrick Beverly inside his shirt. Call game.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Uh yeah, the seed was planted and it actually grew
- 5:35Speaker 1: on top of the Warriors last night when when I
- 5:38Speaker 1: watched I don't mean this to sound nasty, when I
- 5:40Speaker 1: watched Patrick Beverlely guard Kevin Durant, I see him get
- 5:43Speaker 1: in his face. It's almost like watching like remember that
- 5:47Speaker 1: video of Kevin Hart versus Draymond Green and that that
- 5:50Speaker 1: Fox three point shooting contest at the All Star Game,
- 5:52Speaker 1: And like Kevin Hart is so much shorter than Draymond
- 5:55Speaker 1: Green that when he's trying to like get in his face,
- 5:58Speaker 1: he can get up to maybe his stern um. That's
- 6:01Speaker 1: what it feels like when Patrick Beverly is doing except
- 6:03Speaker 1: he's actually doing it in a real game and being
- 6:05Speaker 1: unbelievably effective. Yeah. The comparison I made here was the
- 6:10Speaker 1: movie comparison is from the movie The Mummy. There's that
- 6:12Speaker 1: that beetle that gets inside the guy's skin and he
- 6:15Speaker 1: like starts like one. The thing is mind, he runs
- 6:17Speaker 1: into the wall and kills himself. I know it's the
- 6:19Speaker 1: Nicious movie, but that really is Patrick Peverley in basketball form.
- 6:24Speaker 1: And the thing with me is similar to what you
- 6:26Speaker 1: just alluded to, Kevin Hart is internet culture as well.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So Patrick Beverley is a basketball troll. And what do
- 6:34Speaker 1: you do with trolls. You don't respond to them. Whether
- 6:37Speaker 1: you are correct or you are wrong. You can be
- 6:40Speaker 1: the most correct response in the history of the Internet.
- 6:43Speaker 1: And it does not matter if you are responding to
- 6:45Speaker 1: a troll. All a troll cares about is that they
- 6:48Speaker 1: put the interactions so they can screenshot it and they
- 6:50Speaker 1: can put it as their header in their profile. So
- 6:54Speaker 1: this whole time, Patrick Peverley troll and cant like, you're
- 6:57Speaker 1: gonna respond to me by the end of this You're
- 6:58Speaker 1: gonna respond to me by the end of the game,
- 7:00Speaker 1: and Kim Durant sitting there just kind of laughed in
- 7:02Speaker 1: like we're up thirty. I'm just I'm gonna stand over
- 7:05Speaker 1: here and just let him be annoying. And then all
- 7:07Speaker 1: of a sudden, thirty becomes twenty, becomes ten, becomes five
- 7:09Speaker 1: to oh my god, we just lost, and kimbn Durants
- 7:12Speaker 1: trying to respond and bring the team back. You can
- 7:15Speaker 1: see just the look on Beverly states he knows he
- 7:18Speaker 1: has tru cause hooked into KIMN. Durant as much as
- 7:22Speaker 1: he wants to smile and say, uh, this is just
- 7:24Speaker 1: Pat Dev and Pat Dev and I respected. It's not different. Now,
- 7:29Speaker 1: this is what makes this last night's game so amazing.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Is Patrick Beverley fouled out with four and a half
- 7:36Speaker 1: minutes left in the game. All right, Kevin Durant fouled
- 7:39Speaker 1: out maybe a minute or so later. We are ten
- 7:43Speaker 1: minutes into this podcast. Last night, you did a twenty
- 7:46Speaker 1: five minute periscope. You were fifteen minutes in the periscope.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That's twenty five minutes of combined content talking about this game.
- 7:54Speaker 1: And we haven't even talked about Lou Williams. Yeah right,
- 7:58Speaker 1: I mean there's so many other like what happened during
- 8:01Speaker 1: that game last night. So you had Lou Williams, who
- 8:03Speaker 1: was put it this way. So pom were put on
- 8:07Speaker 1: this planet to be an artist. Some people were put
- 8:10Speaker 1: on this planet to be a salesman. Some people were
- 8:12Speaker 1: put on this planet to be a blacksmith. Right, it
- 8:15Speaker 1: doesn't matter, like we all have a purpose. Lou Williams
- 8:17Speaker 1: was put on this planet to get buckets, and I
- 8:20Speaker 1: don't know how he continues to do this decade later,
- 8:24Speaker 1: not games later, not seasons later, that years later. This
- 8:27Speaker 1: man has been doing this for decades and he's just undarnable.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So like people are talking about where's Clay Thompson, Pey
- 8:33Speaker 1: Thompson was busy last night with Georgy Lou Williams, which
- 8:36Speaker 1: is an impossible task in how do guys like to
- 8:40Speaker 1: boll Crawford and Lou Williams continued to be this hood.
- 8:43Speaker 1: The rules have changed a little bit, and they've like
- 8:46Speaker 1: James hard and they're so good at manipulating contact that
- 8:51Speaker 1: they're gonna be in this league forever. So this is
- 8:53Speaker 1: nothing new. Lou Williams was hitting game winners all year.
- 8:57Speaker 1: He ran away with six Man of the Year. Is
- 8:59Speaker 1: gonna plain that award again. And the only reason why
- 9:01Speaker 1: we didn't talk about Lou Williams more was because the
- 9:03Speaker 1: Los Angeles Lakers and all their drama ate up all
- 9:06Speaker 1: the market share in the media in Los Angeles. And
- 9:08Speaker 1: the Clippers have been doing what they did last night
- 9:10Speaker 1: all season, and I realized if they were packed, they
- 9:13Speaker 1: wouldn't have been the eight seed. They have been overachieving
- 9:16Speaker 1: with two rookie starting, a third year guy, and a
- 9:19Speaker 1: bunch of no names that you thought sell off Planet
- 9:21Speaker 1: Earth's and we're included in a throwaway dream for Chris Paul.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So when you combine all those elements together in this
- 9:27Speaker 1: little cauldron, the ingrediants that are produced in this whap,
- 9:30Speaker 1: or a team that feels disrespected and it's going to
- 9:32Speaker 1: over a change. You combine the personality of Patrick Beverley,
- 9:36Speaker 1: and then you have this guy, Landry Shannon. Okay, I
- 9:38Speaker 1: don't know if everyone listening to this knows about Landry Shannon.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Landry Shannon was another throwaway piece that the Philip Sementi
- 9:45Speaker 1: switch was included in the trade for the Pious Harris
- 9:47Speaker 1: remember the blockbuster at Sea very trade of oh my god,
- 9:50Speaker 1: they just got bious hairs for what Landry Shamont was
- 9:54Speaker 1: the key piece going back all and Andrew Shannon has
- 9:57Speaker 1: fun is be the best NBA there. I'm talking Lebron,
- 10:02Speaker 1: James Kevin ran the odes same kind of Google. They
- 10:04Speaker 1: were all second to Landry Shammon after the All Star
- 10:08Speaker 1: Break in terms of individual net raining on off stats
- 10:12Speaker 1: I meaning he was being best players statistically in the
- 10:15Speaker 1: NBA going all the way into the final season, the
- 10:18Speaker 1: tunnel weak of the season. That's an actual fact that
- 10:21Speaker 1: he has presidents on the court. Then that much to
- 10:25Speaker 1: the Clippers, and the Clippers were the best second NAP
- 10:27Speaker 1: team and it was all because of Sharon's shooting motility.
- 10:30Speaker 1: That's what he does. Last night, it came on the line,
- 10:32Speaker 1: no big deal, You're just playing in pal against the
- 10:34Speaker 1: best dynasty of all time. Just steps right up at
- 10:37Speaker 1: h the game winner like it's absolutely nothing. So coming
- 10:40Speaker 1: to class, we talked about it was point four or
- 10:42Speaker 1: five guys that are completely non namers that now are
- 10:45Speaker 1: going to become household names because the Clippers, Doc Rivers
- 10:49Speaker 1: and more import named Lord Spring my executive of the
- 10:52Speaker 1: year have found that recipe knows great. Damn all right,
- 10:56Speaker 1: we've talked about Patrick Beverley, you said, we mentioned a
- 10:58Speaker 1: few players, Patrick bever Lee, Lou Williams, Landry Shamat. You
- 11:03Speaker 1: say Lawrence frank Is is Executive of the year. On
- 11:07Speaker 1: your periscope last night you also said Bob Myers could
- 11:11Speaker 1: be Executive of the Year forgetting Andrew Bogat to come
- 11:14Speaker 1: back from Australia. So let's flip this because at the
- 11:16Speaker 1: end of the day, like we're talking about a thirty
- 11:18Speaker 1: one point come back, we're talking about three one. We're
- 11:21Speaker 1: talking about a Warrior's team at the ending of the day.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Like you said last night, they're going to win this
- 11:26Speaker 1: series in five games. So let's get to the Warriors
- 11:30Speaker 1: for a second. If you're a betting man, now is
- 11:33Speaker 1: the best price to get the Warriors? Probably? But also,
- 11:36Speaker 1: why do you say Bob Myers should be Executive the
- 11:40Speaker 1: Year in the periscope last night because I got Andrew
- 11:43Speaker 1: Bogett to come back from Australia, right, So there should
- 11:47Speaker 1: be some context to that if you can say that
- 11:49Speaker 1: it was in the moment uh exaggeration that he should
- 11:53Speaker 1: now be considered because of what happened to Marcus Cousins.
- 11:57Speaker 1: So from all the things that happened last night, we
- 12:00Speaker 1: haven't mentioned yet that the prized possession of free agency,
- 12:03Speaker 1: Uh likely We don't know at the time of selling this,
- 12:07Speaker 1: but I could very likely have a torn quadrstep and
- 12:11Speaker 1: be out for the playoffs at the very ladies step
- 12:13Speaker 1: Curus said it's going to quote be a while, um
- 12:16Speaker 1: and it is a quote significant injury. So Bob Myers
- 12:19Speaker 1: just decided to believe in early March, maybe of Slate
- 12:22Speaker 1: February or whenever it was, to call up Andrew Pogett,
- 12:25Speaker 1: per former center for the Lawyers, who was the MPP
- 12:28Speaker 1: down for the Sydney Kings in Australia, decides to call
- 12:31Speaker 1: him up and say, hey, do you want to come
- 12:32Speaker 1: back up here for the remainder of the season of
- 12:34Speaker 1: play for the Warriors, And that ended up being a
- 12:37Speaker 1: really really important decision it has. Without him, the Warriors
- 12:40Speaker 1: would simply just have Kevon Looney. Now, Cabon Looney is
- 12:45Speaker 1: been perfect, almost perfect, as perfect as cavan money can be. Uh,
- 12:49Speaker 1: for this Warrior's team. You want to talk about how
- 12:52Speaker 1: important players are when they're on the court versus they're off, Looney, Uh,
- 12:56Speaker 1: it makes the Warriors a plus ten point one net rating,
- 13:00Speaker 1: and when he's off the court it goes all the
- 13:01Speaker 1: way down into like four beliefs. So that means his
- 13:04Speaker 1: presence is worth almost five and a half points two
- 13:07Speaker 1: good Golden State ward is It's the complete opposite for
- 13:10Speaker 1: so on paper, the Warriors are not gonna miss Bookie
- 13:13Speaker 1: that much. And part of that reason is because DeMarcus
- 13:16Speaker 1: Cousins is a ball stopper. And when he's out there
- 13:18Speaker 1: with Kevin Durant, who's also a ball stopper. When you
- 13:20Speaker 1: play in the Warriors offense, the ball doesn't stop. So
- 13:24Speaker 1: it really hasn't been a basketball fit in terms of
- 13:26Speaker 1: like on paper stuff. But the eye test will tell
- 13:29Speaker 1: you that DeMarcus Cousins is an All Star for a reason,
- 13:32Speaker 1: and he looked pretty dang good this year, so they're
- 13:34Speaker 1: gonna miss him for depth purposes. But when it comes
- 13:36Speaker 1: to actual like gameplay and you look back under advanced analytics, uh,
- 13:40Speaker 1: DeMarcus Cousins will not be as important as losing like
- 13:43Speaker 1: a Steph Curry or Clay Thompson or Draymond Green. So
- 13:47Speaker 1: my statement about Bob Myers was that was probably the
- 13:50Speaker 1: most important phone call he's made all year, even more
- 13:53Speaker 1: so than DeMarcus Cousins, because Boget, like Looney, does not
- 13:57Speaker 1: need the ball. He's in there for one reason to
- 13:59Speaker 1: protect the pain, clean the glass. Uh, do all of
- 14:02Speaker 1: those important things that Steph Curry, Clay Thompson, Kevin Durant
- 14:05Speaker 1: are not willing to do. You don't need a fit
- 14:08Speaker 1: player who wants who is so good at offense that
- 14:10Speaker 1: he needs the ball. There's only one of it on
- 14:12Speaker 1: the court. So unless you're willing to adapt to and
- 14:16Speaker 1: embrace this warrior style of play, uh, the Fircus Cousins
- 14:20Speaker 1: is not a great long term fit for this team.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And having Boget and Mooning as options is going to
- 14:26Speaker 1: make life a little bit easier for those guys who
- 14:28Speaker 1: have been around the Clay's to drink again that the
- 14:30Speaker 1: Hampton's five, their lives are gonna be a little bit easier.
- 14:34Speaker 1: If you're did you watch I felt like you know
- 14:36Speaker 1: sixty minutes on Sunday had a Game of Throne story,
- 14:41Speaker 1: which I know you like, and uh, a story about
- 14:44Speaker 1: the Warriors? Did you happen to see the story by
- 14:47Speaker 1: John Worth time on sixty minutes about the Warriors on
- 14:50Speaker 1: Sunday night enough to continue to have this conversation? So,
- 14:57Speaker 1: which is really all you need in the podcast? What
- 15:01Speaker 1: that was when they were interviewing all five of those
- 15:04Speaker 1: guys they were interviewing Iguadala, Sean Livingston, Um, Clay Durant,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and Steph That was some weird body language in that interview,
- 15:15Speaker 1: especially from Kevin Durant. What did you think? Well, remember
- 15:21Speaker 1: sixty minutes they filmed their stories, probably five or six
- 15:24Speaker 1: months before they actually go to air a majority of these.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Now I don't know when the exact date that this
- 15:30Speaker 1: was filmed, but based on Steph Curry's haircut and his goatee,
- 15:34Speaker 1: that sure looked like the end of November. And at
- 15:37Speaker 1: the beginning of November. We know what happened back against
- 15:40Speaker 1: the Clippers in that Staples that same Staples Center, Raymond
- 15:44Speaker 1: Green and Kevin Durant had their World War three on
- 15:46Speaker 1: the bench, and that's when like two weeks of oh
- 15:49Speaker 1: my god, this might be actually happening, was was happening
- 15:53Speaker 1: there for a little bit, so uh that the timing
- 15:57Speaker 1: of that. They may not have been in love with
- 15:59Speaker 1: each other, and to be honest, they still probably don't
- 16:01Speaker 1: love each other to this day. Um, but they're so
- 16:04Speaker 1: good that it is in their best business interests. You
- 16:07Speaker 1: know what they look like when they're sitting there talking
- 16:08Speaker 1: to that interview. They know that, you know what, we're
- 16:11Speaker 1: probably going to break up and we don't like each other,
- 16:13Speaker 1: but it isn't our best business interest to just come
- 16:16Speaker 1: together for this playoff run. Let's win four titles in
- 16:19Speaker 1: five years and we'll worry about Kumbaya after this. So
- 16:23Speaker 1: that's that's the vibe that has always surrounded this team
- 16:26Speaker 1: throughout the year, and to be honest, it's the same
- 16:28Speaker 1: arb that surrounded the Jordan's Bulls for almost a decade.
- 16:32Speaker 1: All of these dynasties, these guys have egos. They think
- 16:34Speaker 1: they're the best players. They want to get paid, they
- 16:37Speaker 1: want they wanted the recognition. It's only natural right, we're
- 16:40Speaker 1: all human. But they do look like they're at the
- 16:42Speaker 1: end of that. Okay, one more is fine, and then
- 16:46Speaker 1: we're gonna move on. Here. God, that is some Zepruder
- 16:49Speaker 1: film breakdown right there, because that could also be why,
- 16:54Speaker 1: if we want to extend the conspiracy a little bit further,
- 16:57Speaker 1: that could be why Draymond wasn't in the interview. That's
- 17:02Speaker 1: would be my theory. I wish I could prove that,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but if I'm putting, I don't have any tinfoil in
- 17:07Speaker 1: this near me around this chair. But the reason why
- 17:10Speaker 1: Draymond was not included was because Warriors pr likely hilted
- 17:13Speaker 1: him out as they did many times turned that run.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Remember kid, there was there was a stretch there, not
- 17:19Speaker 1: even during the Draymond versus Kad thing in November when
- 17:22Speaker 1: there was the second like what is going on here
- 17:24Speaker 1: with Kevin Durant going to New York or something that
- 17:27Speaker 1: Katie didn't talk to the media for eight days and
- 17:29Speaker 1: he was like running out of practice through the back door,
- 17:31Speaker 1: avoiding pr and everything. Uh so this is guess what
- 17:35Speaker 1: happened last night. Draymond and Katie left before the media
- 17:39Speaker 1: got into the locker room. They snuck out the back door,
- 17:41Speaker 1: the Bruce Wayne door. So that this is this is
- 17:46Speaker 1: just like another notch on the belt for these guys.
- 17:49Speaker 1: And the fact that Draymond Green was not there was
- 17:51Speaker 1: certainly not by accident. Kad is becoming such an enigma
- 17:55Speaker 1: because he's a guy who he should be having more
- 18:02Speaker 1: fun playing basketball than anybody. He is built for basketball
- 18:07Speaker 1: better than anybody could possibly be built. He is, except
- 18:10Speaker 1: for by Patrick Beverley, essentially unguardable. He can do whatever
- 18:14Speaker 1: he wants on the court at any time. He's playing
- 18:17Speaker 1: on a team that could be amongst the greatest, most
- 18:21Speaker 1: legendary athletic teams that has ever talked about, and he
- 18:24Speaker 1: looks miserable every single time, even even during that sixty
- 18:27Speaker 1: minutes piece when he was practicing, he looked miserable. How
- 18:31Speaker 1: do you reconcile that I in terms of you can
- 18:35Speaker 1: truly answered that is ken berlant Um. I'm sure there
- 18:38Speaker 1: are some things going on that nobody knows about, and
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'm going to continue to reiterate that they're humans too. Right,
- 18:45Speaker 1: So despite his amazing superior talent to play basketball, that
- 18:49Speaker 1: may not be enough for him. He may does he
- 18:52Speaker 1: love playing basketball? Does he not playing basketball? Um? I
- 18:56Speaker 1: wish I could answer those questions for him. But to
- 18:58Speaker 1: your point, at at this current moment, I would probably
- 19:02Speaker 1: say he it's real close between him Jannis and Lebron.
- 19:06Speaker 1: But you could argue that he has does basketball play
- 19:08Speaker 1: on planet Earth? And you'd figure if you're the best
- 19:10Speaker 1: basket player on planet Earth, life is pretty good, right.
- 19:13Speaker 1: But something is clearly not fulfilled for him that you
- 19:16Speaker 1: can win two straight finals m v ps. There's a
- 19:19Speaker 1: very high chance you're gonna win three straight finals m
- 19:22Speaker 1: v ps and go into a conversation that only Bill
- 19:24Speaker 1: Russell consid he did right. You went to Golden State
- 19:28Speaker 1: to get your trophies in your your rings. Maybe you
- 19:30Speaker 1: did it to get the approval of everyone that says
- 19:35Speaker 1: you were the next Patrick Ewing. You're the best player
- 19:38Speaker 1: that never finished with the championship. Well, now I don't
- 19:42Speaker 1: have the everyone thinks I kind of bought my way
- 19:45Speaker 1: into this versus earned it, and now I like these.
- 19:48Speaker 1: I wish I could answer these, but these are all
- 19:49Speaker 1: common themes that may just have stacked up in his
- 19:53Speaker 1: brain throughout time that the only way he's going to
- 19:55Speaker 1: be happy is if X, Y, and Z happens. And
- 19:59Speaker 1: that's why so many people are like looking to see
- 20:01Speaker 1: him come to New York, because if he were to
- 20:04Speaker 1: win a championship in New York, you know, it's the
- 20:07Speaker 1: same thing as Lebron going back to Cleveland. We forgot
- 20:09Speaker 1: that Lebron was the biggest villain on planned for almost
- 20:12Speaker 1: five years. Kevin Durant is the biggest sports villain in
- 20:14Speaker 1: the United States because of what his decision could go
- 20:17Speaker 1: to the Golden State. If he came to New York,
- 20:19Speaker 1: he wouldn't build him a statue if he won a championship,
- 20:22Speaker 1: not no statue outside the garden. He would get his
- 20:24Speaker 1: own tower, he would get his own skyscraper. They would
- 20:28Speaker 1: rename the Canyon of Heroes after him. So if he's
- 20:30Speaker 1: looking for narratives now, in addition to actual accomplishments and achievements.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Maybe that's the next step for him and your reconcile question.
- 20:38Speaker 1: That's how maybe he's going to reconcile it before his
- 20:41Speaker 1: career is done. Alright, I got one more question for you.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Later on the podcast, we got Mike Leeboff, hockey editor, writer,
- 20:48Speaker 1: islander fan extraordinary um the creator of Francessicon by the way,
- 20:52Speaker 1: uh and Action Network you know, do it all Master.
- 20:55Speaker 1: He's gonna come on later. We're talking about the Stanley Cup.
- 20:58Speaker 1: But I have one more question for you before I
- 21:00Speaker 1: let you go. You're all Foxhole team as of right now?
- 21:05Speaker 1: Who is your all Foxhole team? Patrick Beverley, Gamba Walker, Montrez, Harrold.
- 21:14Speaker 1: I think it's going to create some problems, but I
- 21:16Speaker 1: do want Chris paul in there because he's so smart
- 21:19Speaker 1: and play he thinks ahead. Um, my fifth spot. I
- 21:24Speaker 1: wish I could give you a fifth spot off the
- 21:26Speaker 1: time I had. Those four guys are my fox although
- 21:28Speaker 1: I can tell you that much. Who do you think
- 21:31Speaker 1: could eat the most thumb tacks and wash them down
- 21:35Speaker 1: with the most nails? Well, I mean I made the
- 21:40Speaker 1: joke last night. I think the answer is Patrick Beverley.
- 21:43Speaker 1: He's been doing that throughout his career when everyone's over
- 21:46Speaker 1: there and joining themselves. Patrick Beverley is, it's like he's
- 21:49Speaker 1: the mankind for anyone out there that I've watched w
- 21:52Speaker 1: W E Attitude Era, he is the mankind of NBA
- 21:56Speaker 1: basketball that you just can't kill him. He just keeps
- 21:59Speaker 1: coming back and anything you do to him just seeming
- 22:01Speaker 1: really max him stronger. Listen, Bob, you've had a nice
- 22:04Speaker 1: run of content the past twelve hours. I want you
- 22:06Speaker 1: to go take a nap. Thank you, appreciate it. Thank you, brother.
- 22:11Speaker 1: I'll talk to you later. Let's take a break from
- 22:13Speaker 1: the podcast to talk about our favorite advertiser of erectile
- 22:20Speaker 1: dysfunction pills. Guys are terrible at taking care of their health,
- 22:24Speaker 1: whether it's a knee injury, bad back, or something worse.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Could there be something worse. Guys are usually more comfortable
- 22:30Speaker 1: rubbing some dirt on it than seeing a doctor. I'm
- 22:32Speaker 1: guilty of it my self. I've broken my back, I've
- 22:37Speaker 1: had my appendix taken out. You know what I do.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I stay at work. That's what I do. I always
- 22:41Speaker 1: stay at work. The same is true for erectile dysfunction.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Studies show seventy guys who experience e D don't get
- 22:49Speaker 1: treated for it. Thankfully, Roman created an easy way to
- 22:52Speaker 1: get checked out by a doctor and get treated for
- 22:55Speaker 1: e D online. Roman is a one stop shop where
- 22:58Speaker 1: you can chat with a licensed US physician who can
- 23:01Speaker 1: treat e D and, if safe and appropriate, ship medication
- 23:04Speaker 1: right to your door. With Roman, there are no waiting rooms,
- 23:08Speaker 1: awkward face to face conversations, or uncomfortable trips to the pharmacy.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I don't know why it has to be an awkward
- 23:14Speaker 1: face to face conversation. My kids listen to the podcast
- 23:16Speaker 1: every once in a while. They've heard the Roman ads
- 23:19Speaker 1: and they think it's fantastic that we're talking about this.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say that out loud. You can handle
- 23:23Speaker 1: everything discreetly online. All you have to do is visit
- 23:27Speaker 1: get roman dot com, slash favorites, complete an online visit,
- 23:30Speaker 1: chat with the doctor, and if the doctor decides it
- 23:33Speaker 1: would be safe and appropriate, those ship genuine medication right
- 23:36Speaker 1: to your door in discrete, unmarked packaging. Guys go online
- 23:40Speaker 1: and get checked by the doctor. Erectile dysfunction is a
- 23:43Speaker 1: problem that guys don't tackle, but with Roman it's really simple,
- 23:48Speaker 1: so take care of it. For a free online visit.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Go to get Roman dot com slash favorites. That's get
- 23:54Speaker 1: Roman dot com slash favorites for a free online visit.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Get Roman dot com slash favorites. As my friend black
- 24:03Speaker 1: Jack would say, get Roman, get hard. Let's get back
- 24:08Speaker 1: to the podcast, kids. I hope you enjoyed that one, alright.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Next up on the podcast from the Action Network, one
- 24:16Speaker 1: of my favorites. I can't believe he hasn't been fired yet,
- 24:19Speaker 1: but uh, Mr Michael Leavoff covers hockey, covers baseball, covers
- 24:25Speaker 1: covers everything really, but mostly I think you're probably known
- 24:29Speaker 1: at the Action Network for the things you don't do
- 24:31Speaker 1: with the Action Network, like your podcast Islanders Anxiety and
- 24:36Speaker 1: being the creator of francessicn So before we even get
- 24:40Speaker 1: into the Islanders, which is why you're here, we're gonna
- 24:42Speaker 1: talk about the Stanley Cup laughs, and the Islanders. It's
- 24:44Speaker 1: Tuesday morning. Like I said, the Islanders have a chance
- 24:47Speaker 1: to sweep the series tonight. You are wearing your Islanders hats,
- 24:50Speaker 1: You're wearing your Islanders sweater, You're wearing your Islanders T shirt.
- 24:54Speaker 1: You have been thinking about all the things you can
- 24:57Speaker 1: do to rub it and John Tavaris's face when the
- 25:00Speaker 1: Olanders advanced in the second round of the playoffs. You
- 25:02Speaker 1: had a conversation this morning. Tell me about your conversation
- 25:04Speaker 1: this morning coming in on the l I double R
- 25:07Speaker 1: with the train conductor. Yeah, I was just walking away
- 25:10Speaker 1: from a screaming baby, uh, walking downstream as we like
- 25:13Speaker 1: to call it, towards the back of the train, and
- 25:16Speaker 1: I got stopped because I'm wearing an Islander's hat and
- 25:18Speaker 1: he wanted to check my ticket. He thought I just
- 25:21Speaker 1: got on, and I said no, you know, I was
- 25:22Speaker 1: just getting away from that maniac baby over there. And
- 25:25Speaker 1: and and he's like, oh, He's like yeah, Plus, you
- 25:28Speaker 1: got an Islander's hat on, You're good. And then we
- 25:29Speaker 1: just started talking about the game for you know, twenty
- 25:32Speaker 1: minutes while Uh, an oversized truck hit a tunnel, so
- 25:37Speaker 1: we had to slow down in Forest Hills. Uh. There's
- 25:39Speaker 1: always something new on the Long Island Railroad and so
- 25:42Speaker 1: let's slow the Iron Horse down a little bit and
- 25:44Speaker 1: uh we we got uh, we got to talking and
- 25:48Speaker 1: you know, yeah, the Islanders are up three nothing on
- 25:49Speaker 1: the Penguins right now, and um the credo from Barry
- 25:52Speaker 1: Trots our fear this leader has been the fourth game
- 25:55Speaker 1: as the hardest to win. It as excited and surreal
- 25:57Speaker 1: as this whole thing has been. We kept reminding each
- 25:59Speaker 1: other not not to count our chickens before before they hatch,
- 26:02Speaker 1: because you know, if there's a team that can blow
- 26:05Speaker 1: a three nothing lead and just stomp your heart in
- 26:07Speaker 1: front of your face, it's the New York Islanders and um,
- 26:09Speaker 1: so we're not looking past this game. We're not counting
- 26:11Speaker 1: anything is done and dusted. So the conversation was literally,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I'm so excited, you know this is a dream, but
- 26:20Speaker 1: we gotta win the fourth game. And then I would reply,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, the fourth game is the hardest game to win,
- 26:24Speaker 1: and he said, yeah, this team is really tough. Like
- 26:26Speaker 1: if there's a team that can come back from a
- 26:28Speaker 1: three nothing lead at Sidney Crosby and the Penguins. So
- 26:30Speaker 1: we uh, we made sure to to kind of pump
- 26:32Speaker 1: our brakes a little bit, both literally add metaphorical. Yes, exactly.
- 26:36Speaker 1: There were a lot of breaks being pumped on the
- 26:38Speaker 1: train this morning. Here's what I love about Leeboff is um,
- 26:43Speaker 1: you go all in on your passions the Islanders. When
- 26:48Speaker 1: you decided things weren't going well in Rockville Center. What
- 26:52Speaker 1: did you do? I ran from mayor? How old are you?
- 26:55Speaker 1: And what happened? I lost? Why did you lose? It's
- 27:01Speaker 1: just a political machine and I was trying to tear
- 27:03Speaker 1: down it's too too tough the incumbent mayor. Um, he's
- 27:08Speaker 1: a good guy. Uh his his dad was married for
- 27:11Speaker 1: like thirty years in my town. Um. Part of the
- 27:14Speaker 1: reason I was running for mayor was just because the
- 27:16Speaker 1: Islanders were in a very precarious position and I didn't
- 27:18Speaker 1: know how to get into a position of power and
- 27:20Speaker 1: try to like save them. And this was one avenue. Um,
- 27:24Speaker 1: not that I was that was the only reason. Obviously,
- 27:26Speaker 1: you know, I'm I'm an idealist, idealistic guy like I
- 27:30Speaker 1: would love to to be in a position to make
- 27:33Speaker 1: the world a little bit better place, to make timey
- 27:35Speaker 1: changes to Earth if you if you will, and uh,
- 27:37Speaker 1: it's all any of us can get. Yeah, exactly. And um,
- 27:40Speaker 1: yeah I lost this guy. Friend Mary's doing a pretty
- 27:43Speaker 1: pretty decent job. And yeah, I mean every time I
- 27:47Speaker 1: see him, which has probably been like six or seven
- 27:48Speaker 1: times since then, it's you know, a little cold. And
- 27:51Speaker 1: I've never had a political rival before, and now I do.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Does he know it's cold when you see him or
- 27:57Speaker 1: is it just from you? I don't know. Actually I
- 27:59Speaker 1: saw him once at a at a bar at we
- 28:02Speaker 1: ended up relieving ourselves at adjacent urnals. Yeah, and uh,
- 28:08Speaker 1: that's when I noticed it was cold. What he wouldn't
- 28:13Speaker 1: look at you. What happened? I said hello and he
- 28:16Speaker 1: didn't say back. You usually say hello back or how
- 28:19Speaker 1: are you? And he didn't do that. Um he. I
- 28:22Speaker 1: mean it was a big drinking day on Long Long Island.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Is drinking days we do. I think we do drinking days,
- 28:27Speaker 1: and I think we curse better than anybody, like, we
- 28:29Speaker 1: don't waste curse curse words on anything. Um. So it
- 28:33Speaker 1: was Irish Day on Long Island in Raffles Center and
- 28:36Speaker 1: it was late. We've both had our drinking legs under
- 28:39Speaker 1: us and made it till the sun came down, which
- 28:41Speaker 1: is an accomplishment in itself. And um, maybe I didn't.
- 28:45Speaker 1: I think I said hello, uh and then he didn't
- 28:47Speaker 1: say it back. But you know, maybe he was just
- 28:49Speaker 1: a little fatigued from the drinking. There's an Irish day
- 28:53Speaker 1: in Long Island that is different than St. Patrick's Day. Uh. Yeah,
- 28:56Speaker 1: there's so many Irish days actually, there's like they just
- 28:59Speaker 1: like throw him on this the calendar just to like,
- 29:01Speaker 1: I think, bringing an influx of people from from all
- 29:04Speaker 1: over uh Raffolsner, where I grew up, is known for
- 29:07Speaker 1: having this. A lot of towns claim this week. We
- 29:10Speaker 1: claim it to uh most bars per capita in the
- 29:12Speaker 1: United States, and so a lot of people come from
- 29:15Speaker 1: all over Long Island. The week after St. Patrick's Day
- 29:18Speaker 1: is our Irish Day. So fran Murray is your political rival. Yeah,
- 29:23Speaker 1: well he's one of them, several I think, but most
- 29:25Speaker 1: of them just don't know it. But you're thinking about it.
- 29:27Speaker 1: You're going after him. Um, all right. The other thing
- 29:30Speaker 1: that you started before we can get to the playoffs
- 29:33Speaker 1: is France Sssicon. Mike Francesessa explore, there was a great
- 29:39Speaker 1: story about this. This is why I hired you is
- 29:41Speaker 1: because we were talking and you're like, I started friends
- 29:43Speaker 1: Sssicon and then you sent me the story that was
- 29:46Speaker 1: in grant Land about you starting Francessicon. I feel like
- 29:51Speaker 1: you starting friends ssicon and francessa on w f A N.
- 29:56Speaker 1: These are the most Long Island things ever. Yeah, explain
- 30:00Speaker 1: how you started this. Well, it wasn't just me. It
- 30:03Speaker 1: was me and my buddy Ron, who's actually from Clifton,
- 30:05Speaker 1: New Jersey. Um, but he's a huge francessa guy too.
- 30:08Speaker 1: And uh yeah, when I was used to working in
- 30:11Speaker 1: this uh financial job, which like I to this day
- 30:14Speaker 1: don't know how I ended up there. It didn't last long.
- 30:17Speaker 1: And uh one day I was driving home from work
- 30:20Speaker 1: and I was just like real piste off because I
- 30:22Speaker 1: hated my job. I hated my boss. And I was
- 30:26Speaker 1: stuck in traffic on the Merritt Parkway, which you know
- 30:28Speaker 1: very well, um, and I was listening to Mike and
- 30:32Speaker 1: I was just cracking up because he was just going
- 30:33Speaker 1: off on someone. And I called my buddy. I was like,
- 30:36Speaker 1: we need to we need to start a bark call
- 30:37Speaker 1: from Mike Frances and just have people dressed up like Mike,
- 30:40Speaker 1: you know, like Santa Con and um, we both kind
- 30:44Speaker 1: of just shot the idea around and uh we we
- 30:47Speaker 1: were working, you know, both freelancing for a guy who
- 30:49Speaker 1: who ran like a sports culture website out in the
- 30:52Speaker 1: West Coast and he didn't really know, you know, much
- 30:54Speaker 1: about the Frances of phenomenon. He's like, yeah, go for it.
- 30:57Speaker 1: So we did, and the next thing, you know, it
- 30:58Speaker 1: like kind of just went pretty much like sports viral,
- 31:01Speaker 1: I guess would be the best way to put it.
- 31:03Speaker 1: And he called me. He's like, we're gonna get sued
- 31:05Speaker 1: by Mike Frand says, I can't be attached to this um.
- 31:07Speaker 1: And we're like, all right, like but we're gonna still
- 31:09Speaker 1: do it. And we did. It. Was it was the
- 31:13Speaker 1: Saturday before the Super Bowl in New York. It was
- 31:16Speaker 1: a bar crawl. Didn't really get past one bar, but
- 31:19Speaker 1: I mean it was a great time. Where did you
- 31:21Speaker 1: start and finish? It was a bar called the Saloon.
- 31:23Speaker 1: I don't think it's there. It's up on the Upper
- 31:25Speaker 1: east Side or it was um and I think it closed.
- 31:29Speaker 1: But the we had special guests there. We have Jack
- 31:31Speaker 1: young Blood who is in an NFL Hall of Famer,
- 31:34Speaker 1: showed up, played in a broken wagon Super Bowl. No
- 31:36Speaker 1: idea how he got there, but he was there. Um
- 31:38Speaker 1: Jeff Cumberland who we paid a thousand dollars to show
- 31:41Speaker 1: up because we we had raised money through like ticket sales,
- 31:45Speaker 1: not ticket sales that year, but just selling T shirts online,
- 31:48Speaker 1: so we we had paid Jeff Cumberland a show up fee.
- 31:51Speaker 1: He was a terrible tight end for the Jets, Like
- 31:54Speaker 1: just I mean, I don't know if many Jets fans
- 31:56Speaker 1: would know who he is, but he showed up. Um
- 31:58Speaker 1: paying him, you know Grant like me and my friends
- 32:00Speaker 1: called a Cumberland Now anytimes someone talks about and a
- 32:04Speaker 1: mere con who's actually boxing, Terence Crawford Saturday at the
- 32:07Speaker 1: Garden showed up. His people call him called me the
- 32:10Speaker 1: day before frances Con. Hey, a meir is gonna be
- 32:13Speaker 1: in town for the super Bowl. He wants to go
- 32:14Speaker 1: to a super Bowl party. Yours really stuck out. I
- 32:17Speaker 1: was like a mere con, you know, the British boxer,
- 32:19Speaker 1: and he's like yeah. I was like, all right, he's
- 32:21Speaker 1: more than welcome to show up. He's gonna have no
- 32:23Speaker 1: idea what's going on. So he just like walks through
- 32:25Speaker 1: the crowd and walked out. And you know that boxing
- 32:28Speaker 1: already's in each sport. Mike, francis Con was a very
- 32:31Speaker 1: neat thing. Um one person noticed called into Mike the
- 32:34Speaker 1: next day and it's like or for super Bowl show
- 32:37Speaker 1: on Sunday. He's like, Mike, did you know a mere
- 32:39Speaker 1: con was at frances Con? And he thought he meant
- 32:42Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars owner who was also his name. Last
- 32:45Speaker 1: name was also con. He's like, the Jacksonville Jaguars owner
- 32:47Speaker 1: was at Francis Con. And he's like, yeah, so so
- 32:53Speaker 1: Mike thought that that the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars
- 32:56Speaker 1: was at Francis Con. He might do this day. But yeah,
- 32:59Speaker 1: and then uh, Mike and I become, you know, basically
- 33:02Speaker 1: best friends stance. Then I actually was texting him on
- 33:04Speaker 1: the train. Yeah, you text him a lot. You're every day.
- 33:06Speaker 1: You tell me when you're texting Frances it's a it's
- 33:08Speaker 1: a flex. You flex very well. All right, let's get
- 33:14Speaker 1: to the NHEL playoffs. Let's do it. Last night, you
- 33:16Speaker 1: were on the Predators they won. You were on the
- 33:18Speaker 1: money line. You have. The only reason anyone in the
- 33:22Speaker 1: office is betting hockey is because you're betting hockey. So
- 33:25Speaker 1: and Ken Barkley, Locky Lockerson, who has been writing like
- 33:28Speaker 1: amazing stuff and putting out systems that anyone can follow,
- 33:32Speaker 1: like he's putting out a spreadsheet, and then people can
- 33:34Speaker 1: fill in their own systems on his spreadsheet. Essentially, Uh,
- 33:38Speaker 1: if they go to the Action Network Action network dot com,
- 33:40Speaker 1: download the free app. Um, what are you thinking about
- 33:45Speaker 1: when you're betting hockey? Right now? Yeah? The uh the
- 33:47Speaker 1: NHL playoffs are just a really, really good opportunity to
- 33:50Speaker 1: learn a lot about betting because it's a very controlled environment,
- 33:54Speaker 1: very controlled betting environment. Right, the same two teams are
- 33:56Speaker 1: playing each other for especially game between game one and
- 33:59Speaker 1: game two, there's very little change, Right, the teams are
- 34:02Speaker 1: on the same rest, they're playing in the same venue.
- 34:04Speaker 1: There's maybe there's an injury or whatever, but most of
- 34:07Speaker 1: the time it's the same roster playing each other. So
- 34:09Speaker 1: the market theoretically should be set before game one. But
- 34:14Speaker 1: so the best example is last year the Penguins played
- 34:16Speaker 1: the Flyers. They won game one seven nothing. They were
- 34:19Speaker 1: like minus one eighty. Then for game two they were
- 34:22Speaker 1: like minus two thirty. So what's that telling you is like,
- 34:24Speaker 1: the markets already been set at minus one eight, So
- 34:28Speaker 1: you're you're getting you know, somewhere between thirty and fifty
- 34:30Speaker 1: cents of value on the Flyers the next game because
- 34:32Speaker 1: you already know what the line should be. They already
- 34:35Speaker 1: told you what the line should be. Ah, And it
- 34:37Speaker 1: doesn't even matter that the Flyers. The Flyers did win
- 34:39Speaker 1: game two, but that doesn't even matter. What matters is
- 34:40Speaker 1: you were able to recognize that situation and then take
- 34:43Speaker 1: advantage of it. And we saw that with the Blue
- 34:45Speaker 1: Jackets and and Lightning a little bit. Lightning lost game one,
- 34:50Speaker 1: which they were already overpriced. Like people are underestimating the
- 34:52Speaker 1: Blue Jackets. They're they're a good team. Like sure they
- 34:56Speaker 1: were the eight seed and they're playing a generational team. Um,
- 35:00Speaker 1: but the Blue Jacks are good, and they got better
- 35:01Speaker 1: at the deadline, and they're coming into the playoffs hot,
- 35:04Speaker 1: which has some correlation to doing well in the playoffs,
- 35:08Speaker 1: and so people are already on underestimating them. They win
- 35:11Speaker 1: game one, then people just can't fathom the fact that
- 35:14Speaker 1: this amazing Lightning team would be able to would go
- 35:17Speaker 1: down to nothing at home. So the line moved in
- 35:19Speaker 1: their direction for game two too, And what are you
- 35:23Speaker 1: gonna do there? You're not gonna take a bad number
- 35:25Speaker 1: when the markets already been said, You're gonna take a
- 35:26Speaker 1: good number on top of what it was already a
- 35:28Speaker 1: good number. And the Blue Jackets won. So like there's
- 35:32Speaker 1: a very easy, um kind of like surface level way
- 35:35Speaker 1: to get in. And I always try to tell like
- 35:37Speaker 1: I was talking to Scott Miller, I think last year
- 35:39Speaker 1: for the playoffs ANDLLAR, executive vet or of the action, right.
- 35:43Speaker 1: I was like Scott, you know, my big hockey fan
- 35:45Speaker 1: at all um, I you know, kind of explained my
- 35:49Speaker 1: my strategy for that game with the Penguins and and
- 35:52Speaker 1: Flyers and it, and that drew them in. And it
- 35:56Speaker 1: takes one hockey bet to get into hockey, I think,
- 35:58Speaker 1: especially in the playoffs, Like it's a different antim once
- 36:01Speaker 1: you do it, Like the game is just a roller coaster,
- 36:04Speaker 1: it's just chaos, which is absolute chaos in in a
- 36:09Speaker 1: very small area. So once you do that, you'll get
- 36:12Speaker 1: into it. And there's so much good public facing data
- 36:16Speaker 1: in hockey too, so you can just keep learning and learning.
- 36:18Speaker 1: And it's already a soft market because not as many
- 36:20Speaker 1: people bet it, so your best I think if you're
- 36:23Speaker 1: going on to better for one of the four major
- 36:25Speaker 1: sports and you're looking to actually succeed and not just
- 36:29Speaker 1: betting to you know, because you're watching the Dolphins and
- 36:31Speaker 1: the Bears on Sunday, it's it's got to be hockey.
- 36:35Speaker 1: This all makes perfectly good sense, except for the fact
- 36:38Speaker 1: that you still end up betting on bad teams. Yeah
- 36:41Speaker 1: all the time. I think. I mean, I had another
- 36:44Speaker 1: good season betting hockey, and I was well under five,
- 36:46Speaker 1: because it's just betting bed underdogs. So that's what you
- 36:49Speaker 1: really do, is you end up betting the money line
- 36:51Speaker 1: on the underdogs every single time. When do you bet
- 36:54Speaker 1: favorites in the NHL in the playoffs, especially rarely, I
- 36:59Speaker 1: would say, like, probably the most expensive team I bet
- 37:01Speaker 1: this year, it was like a man just won forty
- 37:04Speaker 1: You already it's it's such a volatile sport already. It's
- 37:06Speaker 1: very low event scoring two so one goal is very important.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And think about how many goals going off someone shin
- 37:12Speaker 1: pad and that changes the game completely, you know, So
- 37:16Speaker 1: you take you take advantage of that valatility by not,
- 37:18Speaker 1: you know, laying crazy prices. Sure there's sometimes its value
- 37:21Speaker 1: on favorites and hockey, but I tend to and maybe
- 37:25Speaker 1: this is, you know, an area I've got to improve on,
- 37:27Speaker 1: is I tend to just always lean towards underdog because
- 37:30Speaker 1: I don't think we account for the randomness of the
- 37:34Speaker 1: sport enough. So what do you do about the Islanders?
- 37:36Speaker 1: The Islanders are up three? Oh, what's the price on
- 37:38Speaker 1: the Islanders tonight? They're like plus one fifty? They they
- 37:42Speaker 1: they've been underpriced. This is probably the closest to the
- 37:46Speaker 1: appropriate price we've seen the series, and so there's plus
- 37:49Speaker 1: one fifty against the Pens tonight, Penguins down three nothing.
- 37:54Speaker 1: What do you do in that game? Yeh, right now,
- 37:59Speaker 1: I don't really think I'm gonna bet it. I have
- 38:01Speaker 1: an I have an Islander series. Bet. I have an
- 38:02Speaker 1: Islanders Stanley Cupp future. So I by the way, yeah,
- 38:06Speaker 1: I know we all do. Yeah, I think who who
- 38:08Speaker 1: brought those? For every Evan Abrams as Yeah, one of
- 38:12Speaker 1: one of our do it all guys that at the
- 38:13Speaker 1: Action Networking. You see him on television all the time too.
- 38:15Speaker 1: For I'll take that bet um. He went out to Vegas.
- 38:19Speaker 1: He bought everybody an Islander's futures ticket. I forgot what
- 38:22Speaker 1: the price was at um. So you have an Islanders
- 38:25Speaker 1: futures bet, you have an Islanders series, bet Um. Take
- 38:29Speaker 1: the Islanders out of it, then handicap the rest of
- 38:31Speaker 1: the NHL playoffs for me, yeah, I mean there's there
- 38:35Speaker 1: are a couple of scary teams, like I think the
- 38:36Speaker 1: Nights are probably the best bet in the in the
- 38:40Speaker 1: West if if you're looking to I mean, the number
- 38:43Speaker 1: is pretty much gone at this point for for any team.
- 38:46Speaker 1: But they they're good like they and I think they've
- 38:49Speaker 1: kind of flown under the radar a little bit because
- 38:52Speaker 1: of all the hoopla up their season last year. Uh,
- 38:54Speaker 1: they're good, they're playing the Sharks are also good. But
- 38:56Speaker 1: the Sharks have a terrible goalie. Like goaltending also, is
- 38:59Speaker 1: it really really probably the hardest position to project in
- 39:02Speaker 1: all sports. I think, um is goaltending in the NHL,
- 39:06Speaker 1: like guys just come out of nowhere to have great seasons.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Guys fall off a cliff all the time. Like it's
- 39:11Speaker 1: just impossible to be able to project goaltending UM. And
- 39:15Speaker 1: there are a lot of bad goalies in the West,
- 39:16Speaker 1: like Mike Smith on the Flames is as serious, Achilles Heal,
- 39:20Speaker 1: Martin Jones for the Sharks not good. So the Knights
- 39:23Speaker 1: are not only are a good team, but they have
- 39:24Speaker 1: a reliable goaltender and Mark Andre Fleury, which should put
- 39:29Speaker 1: them in a decent position. Um. The Blues. The Blues,
- 39:32Speaker 1: who had a tar horrible start to to the regular season,
- 39:35Speaker 1: have kind of put they put things together around the
- 39:37Speaker 1: midway mark, and uh, after they lost the Islanders. Actually
- 39:41Speaker 1: they even cite that game that that was their turnaround,
- 39:43Speaker 1: part point of the game season. They but their goaltender
- 39:48Speaker 1: is a rookie Johan Bennington, who's who's come out of nowhere, uh,
- 39:51Speaker 1: kind of taking the lead by storm. So I'm not
- 39:54Speaker 1: really waded into the Blues that much just because I
- 39:57Speaker 1: don't like, I can't figure this guy out, so rather
- 40:01Speaker 1: I've just been passing on it. But I mean, if
- 40:04Speaker 1: if you're really just like looking for for a team
- 40:06Speaker 1: that maybe has like a shred of value left, it's
- 40:09Speaker 1: it's probably the Nights in the West, So that would
- 40:12Speaker 1: be your team in the West. That would be my pick.
- 40:14Speaker 1: I'm running for for the Avalanche because they're the worst
- 40:16Speaker 1: team and I'm expecting the Islanders to get the Stanley Cup.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I mean, you want the Islanders the matchic have the
- 40:21Speaker 1: best opportunity. Correct. If the Islanders don't make it from
- 40:24Speaker 1: their conference, who makes it likely? I think the Bruins
- 40:28Speaker 1: are probably it should be the Lightning, but they're they're
- 40:32Speaker 1: they're in, yes, a lot of trouble um. I think
- 40:35Speaker 1: that whoever comes out of that, it'll be the Bruins,
- 40:39Speaker 1: Maple Leaves or Blue Jackets, assuming they can hold onto
- 40:41Speaker 1: this three three game lead. I think whoever comes out
- 40:44Speaker 1: of that, we'll play the Islanders in the Eastern Conference Final,
- 40:47Speaker 1: so we could be looking at a Tavaris situation here.
- 40:49Speaker 1: Oh my god, if the Islanders play the Maple Leaves
- 40:53Speaker 1: and John Tavaris is at the folk point of that
- 40:57Speaker 1: playoff series, how are you going to handle it? Not well,
- 41:04Speaker 1: what are you gonna do? How are you going to
- 41:05Speaker 1: manage that? Are you gonna take the week off? Like?
- 41:08Speaker 1: Are you gonna just sitting there all day? What are
- 41:10Speaker 1: you gonna do? I try not to think about it.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Um yeah, Like I mean it. It's making me nervous
- 41:18Speaker 1: right now. I've already, you know, been texting my friends
- 41:20Speaker 1: like this is the Blue Jackets have kind of been
- 41:23Speaker 1: you know, screwing with my mind a little bit, just
- 41:24Speaker 1: because you know, I expected the Leaves not to be
- 41:27Speaker 1: able to get out of that gauntlet. The Bruins are
- 41:29Speaker 1: very good, obviously, the lightning or the best team in
- 41:31Speaker 1: the league. So I was like, all right, like they
- 41:32Speaker 1: should be taken care of by the time the Islanders
- 41:34Speaker 1: are in the Eastern Conference Final, and now we're have
- 41:38Speaker 1: some more uncertainty, and um yeah, I don't know. I know,
- 41:41Speaker 1: like some couple of my loved ones, like my mother,
- 41:43Speaker 1: was very worried about that. She she doesn't she didn't
- 41:46Speaker 1: really understand the playoff format, but she's like, well, how
- 41:48Speaker 1: likely is it? And I said it wasn't very likely,
- 41:51Speaker 1: you know, five days ago, but now it's increasingly likely
- 41:54Speaker 1: or getting more likely by the day. And um, she's
- 41:57Speaker 1: she's very concerned. Um, not just for me, but for like,
- 42:00Speaker 1: my my relationships and you know, my my job, and um,
- 42:04Speaker 1: you know what what would happen to me if if
- 42:07Speaker 1: And this is not just me, I mean Islander fans
- 42:09Speaker 1: are all like this, like we have been treated so poorly,
- 42:13Speaker 1: not just by other teams, but like by the media
- 42:16Speaker 1: and by local politicians and on Long Island. Like it's
- 42:20Speaker 1: just an absolute disaster the way we've been treated. And
- 42:24Speaker 1: so getting this opportunity has been that's why you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: we don't take anything for granted really as a fan base,
- 42:29Speaker 1: just because we can't take like, for my greater part
- 42:32Speaker 1: of my life. When I would not go in to bed,
- 42:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't know if the Islanders would be there in
- 42:35Speaker 1: the morning, just because they almost moved so many times. Um,
- 42:39Speaker 1: so this is this isn't just me, Like this is
- 42:42Speaker 1: all Islander fans are kind of have this, you know,
- 42:44Speaker 1: feeling inside them and I'm worried for for all of us,
- 42:48Speaker 1: not just not just me. Listen, I want you to
- 42:50Speaker 1: tell your mom you have nothing to worry about in
- 42:54Speaker 1: your job. I cannot vouch for you're impending marriage, but
- 42:59Speaker 1: I can promise as you that you are always going
- 43:02Speaker 1: to have a job unless you keep losing hockey bets,
- 43:05Speaker 1: in which case we're gonna fire you. Yeah, it's fine.
- 43:07Speaker 1: I mean, I don't understand why you and and p
- 43:10Speaker 1: k are are always on my back about Patrick Keene,
- 43:12Speaker 1: CEO of the Action I don't know if you don't
- 43:14Speaker 1: follow me in the app or whatever, but usually we're
- 43:16Speaker 1: on the winning side and hockey. I think you're on
- 43:19Speaker 1: the winning side of life, Mike Leeboff, I hope. So
