Transcript
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: It's time for the opening crack.
- 0:16SPEAKER_01: It's the sideshow to the DD show we normally do where we taste and rank some beer.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Welcome, welcome, fellas.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: And that was pretty good for his kid.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: Feels pretty good about getting a big bang out of a little thing.
- 0:31SPEAKER_01: Take that for what it was an adequate crack.
- 0:34SPEAKER_02: The funny thing is, before we started this, he was like, we can make fun of the little crag, and it was a good crack, and I still made fun of it.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Adequate.
- 0:43SPEAKER_03: Adequate.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: So Mr.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Big Can introduce introduce our beer of the night.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Oh God.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Well, tonight we are drinking the gyrating giraffe from Lupulin Brewing Company out of Big Lake, Minnesota.
- 1:04SPEAKER_00: Is that a gyrating?
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Oh, you better believe it's gyrating.
- 1:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and if you've listened to some of our other episodes, this one comes from Matt.
- 1:13SPEAKER_01: You can hear him on the Descent into a Vernus campaign.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, buddy.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Thanks.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Shout out to Matt for hooking us up with one of these.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Cheers to Matt.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Bonus crack for him, too.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Hey.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Ah, there it is.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: Web delayed.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:31SPEAKER_01: So what do what are we tasting on this one, boys?
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Hold on, let's taste it.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Get that ASMR podcast going.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I like it.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Ooh, it's um definitely citrus and tasting citrus.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: This is so it's described as a triple IPA.
- 1:56SPEAKER_02: For an IPA, much less a triple IPA.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: I taste zero bitterness in this beer.
- 2:04SPEAKER_02: How about you guys?
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: I I would agree.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I feel like I've drank like a regular, just a plain old Jane IPA that has much more of a bite than this.
- 2:13SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_01: This this is gonna totally mess up our challenge.
- 2:17SPEAKER_02: Oh, this is gonna throw us curveball change up all in one here, man.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: Uh I think I think z so as far as we can tell, there's no IBU listed for this beer, and it comes in as a at a whopping 10%.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: And I taste neither bitterness or alcohol in this beer.
- 2:36SPEAKER_02: This one, this one.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: And it's amazing.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: This could kick your butt.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: This could kick your butt easily.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: And this is this is one that I want to drink in the summer, like sitting outside on the deck, like sipping on one of these, maybe sipping on two and not being able to walk home afterwards.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Like it's whoo with that 10%, but it is very smooth.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: It is so good.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: It goes down fast for like a 10%.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yes.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:04SPEAKER_02: It it's just like I I'm trying like really hard to find something to compare it to, and I can't find anything.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: It's very like floral-y, citrusy.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I do catch floral notes.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: I'm glad you mentioned that, Brett.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: I catch that almost on the uh the back half.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Like it's hit citrus hard, and then I'm like, oh, there's a little floral taste there too.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: And the like the the smell is certainly like very hot for it, very strong floral hop up front.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: And it's hop, floral, and hoppy on your palate too.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: But it's not it's not the bitter.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: It's like typically, like, if I smell this, I would be turned off by this beer, just knowing what's coming.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: And it's like, I don't, it never comes.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: Waiting for the other shoe to drop, and it's not coming.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: No, it's in a good way.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, in a good way, yes.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: So gyrating giraffe.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: You want to talk about the elephant or giraffe in the room?
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, talk about the elephant on the can.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: The elephant on the can, the giraffe on the can.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: Giraffe, bear, it's got it all.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Man, man, your giraffes look weird.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: This can has a uh giraffe with a very long neck who is pole dancing and has a little garter holding some dollar dollar bills, and there is a bear paw holding out another dollar bill towards the gyrating giraffe, and she's putting on a show.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: It's a very fancy can.
- 4:21SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: You know, normally we have to say that's not a strip club, but in this case, it is definitely a strip club.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Well, it's very nice.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, you go onto the website and you read the description of this beer, and it's it ends with a wild flavor-packed adventure that embodies the spirit of a giraffe in a strip club.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if you even if you look through the hop list, right, they put like Vic Secret hops in this beer.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: It's like, I feel like they did everything they could to dig into the persona of this beer.
- 4:54SPEAKER_02: You know, have you ever seen those videos of like two giraffes fighting, how they just swing their neck at each other?
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: It just makes me think of this giraffe doing that to a stripper pole, like whoosh, how you do it.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: Alright.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: So if you are going to go into Faroon and find one of these beers, where would you be finding one of these?
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Ross.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: Okay, so this one I'm I'm gonna go like more a bigger generic town, but you'll see why.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: So you're gonna find this one at water in Waterdeep.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: Um, this is brewed by the followers of Latander at the Light Bears Libation Lounge.
- 5:35SPEAKER_02: And where so followers of Latander, they use like very unique ingredients, and their unique ingredient that they use is the Radiant and Ethereal Blossom found deep in the Feywild called Sunshade.
- 5:49SPEAKER_02: And then this beer is called the Sunfire Tincture.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: Ooh, I like that.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I think just bright beer, like the sun really had a note with me for that.
- 5:59SPEAKER_02: So I thought that was uh that was a really good one for this.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: Phil, where are you taking us?
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Uh I'm taking us to the prancing pixie.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Yes, it is a strip club, in Luskin, which is just north of Neverwinter.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And uh the reason that it's located there is they source the hops from the different regions in this area.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: It's like sort of seaside, close to the forest, mountainous.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: You can get to the river and to the plains beyond pretty easily.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: So they source all the hops from these different areas.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And initially I wasn't gonna rename it, but after hearing Ross's, they've decided that it's going to be the hopping hippogriff.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm gonna put.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: Enter Harry Potter World.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: I've been playing a lot of Hogwarts Legacy.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Sorry.
- 6:46SPEAKER_02: You can find those at the Three Broomsticks.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: What do you got over there, Brett?
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Where'd you put this?
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: I'm stuck on trying to picture ordering this at the three broomsticks.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: With Harry hopped up on it in the corner.
- 7:00SPEAKER_01: See what I did there?
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Remember my glory days at Hogwarts.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: I'm here all week, folks.
- 7:06SPEAKER_02: Don't worry.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, I am going to a dim plane on this one.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: So not indirectly for this comes from a little demi plane call located in the Shire.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: You maybe have heard of it.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: The Shire.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Uh the Gilded Petal, which is a hot spot for the halflings that live in that area.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Halflings.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Hot spot, eh?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: What?
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Hot spot?
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: How hot?
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: It's very hot.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: So at the gilded petal, you can find this one, which is called the Triple Petal IPA.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: Which is very light and florally in uh for the halflings.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: And you can order this in the largest size, which is a half pint.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: That's not enough for Mary and Pippen.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Sorry.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: No, those are half, those are hobbits.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: These are half pints.
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: These are halflings.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Very, very different.
- 8:04SPEAKER_02: Well, Mary and Pippin definitely go to this bar and drink this while smoking in a corner.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: We went on quite the journey today.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: We did.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Around the world.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: A journey through the fandoms.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: You're welcome, everybody.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: So if you are going to go through our challenge rating, so normally we go through challenge rating one being kind of like a cream ale with your normal kind of DD uh level of challenge ratings, all the way up to a challenge rating 20, which is more comparable to a double IPA.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: This one comes in at a triple IPA.
- 8:42SPEAKER_01: Where are we going to put it?
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: Which makes zero sense.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Well, we did determine that a triple IPA is not at technically beer type.
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: So it's a newer one and just hasn't formally been established or something.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Because there are lots of things.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Just by name, you think this should come in as a 20.
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: And to be honest, when I smelled it the first time, like before before taking a drink, when you take that first big whiff, I was like, oh, this is gonna be a 15.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: Took a drink.
- 9:10SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna come in at a four.
- 9:12unknown: Wow.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Like, I I think like if if somebody smells this and like gets by that initial gut reaction that this is gonna be a super bitter beer and actually take a drink of it, they would have zero problem drinking the rest of it.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: So it's a four.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: For me personally, this is a negative five.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: I would I would drink a six pack of this beer, and at 10%, I would be asleep on the basement floor out like a light, snoring.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: Bill, where are you putting it?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: You you had some big big reactions over there with the with the four.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Where are you putting it?
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: I'm trying to decide.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: I uh gosh.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: I think I think it's gotta be like I still think I put it around like a 12.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: Do you think it's still that high?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I think for someone that maybe isn't as into craft beers, yeah.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: It's it has a strong flavor still.
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And it's different.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: It's smooth, it's citrusy, I mean it's uh drinkable, but I still think it would be a challenge.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: If I may try we've never done this, but if I may try to sway your ranking.
- 10:14SPEAKER_02: This is a debate.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: The fact that it's a 10 and you get very little alcohol on it.
- 10:20SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: And no noticeable bitterness.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: Because I feel like when you think of people, what turns them off on craft beers, a lot of times it's like they want Coors Light, they want that corona that has zero bitterness in it.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: And this would not turn anybody off.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: If you get past the aroma, the strong aroma.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Alright, that's fair.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: So we'll take it as like an eight.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: That's fair.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: That's a win for us.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Bring it bringing it down.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: I was gonna go a seven, so I'm pretty much in the same ballpark.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Okay, but we're definitely not at the 20 where you think a triple IPA should be.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: This is this is a different world.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, I think this uh this is easier, definitely lower on the CR rating than some of the others we've had that are not triple IPAs by any means.
- 11:04SPEAKER_02: And and so we didn't do a lot of research on the type of hops that's in this, but it makes me wonder if that's maybe like part of like this style of hops where it doesn't impart a lot of the tannins and the bitterness, not maybe not tannins, because tannin's is like dryness, but like the bitterness, but it imparts the flavor.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: Because I I mean when you think of hops, you think of bitterness, because like hopy beer is always going to be bitter, but in this case, that is nothing.
- 11:29SPEAKER_02: Nothing like that is the case in this one.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: Where can we find this beer, bruh?
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, you can find this a couple different places.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: So I believe this is a limited release from uh loopulin uh brewery, um, mostly out of Big Lake, Minnesota.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: They also have a brewery in Sioux Falls, South South Dakota, so you can get it in one of those two locations.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, I like this one.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: I think this maybe came out of a demi plane to our world somehow or something.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 11:58SPEAKER_01: This is this is weird.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: Like, this should not be this is messing up our challenge rating, everything.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm I'm a fan of this one.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: I would give this one a big thumbs up.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: What about you guys?
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Big yay.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: Definitely yay.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: If I had more thumbs, it would get more than two.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: But I don't.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: How many thumbs do giraffes have?
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: Do drafts have thumbs?
- 12:17SPEAKER_02: Giraffes don't have thumbs.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: I have hooves.
- 12:19SPEAKER_02: Although this is a gyrating draft, which I don't think giraffes do, but maybe they do, and maybe they do have thumbs.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 12:24SPEAKER_02: Four hooves up.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Four hooves up hooves up.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: That's gonna do it for this bonus episode.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: Stay tuned for more beer reviews in the future.
