- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 1: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good
- 0:12Speaker 1: morning. Welcome
- 0:13Speaker 2: to the middle of the week. How are
- 0:14Speaker 1: you
- 0:14Speaker 2: feeling? Are you energetic today? If not, don't worry, I
- 0:19Speaker 2: got you. I'll give you all the energy you need
- 0:21Speaker 2: to make sure that you have a good Wednesday ahead
- 0:23Speaker 2: by kicking it off with some Kehlani and Calvin Harris.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Stay tuned. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Well, it's meant to be a bit of a thrift,
- 0:34Speaker 2: thrift shop kind of festival and arts and crafts and
- 0:37Speaker 2: all that as well. Honestly, it looked really, really cute,
- 0:39Speaker 2: and I, I would have gone down if not for
- 0:43Speaker 2: the crowds, um, and unfortunately for them, I think quite
- 0:46Speaker 2: a lot of backlash regarding the crowds and the waiting
- 0:50Speaker 2: time over at Mercury Festival at Suntec City.
- 0:53Speaker 2: Um, I think many news reports have come out already.
- 0:56Speaker 2: If you don't read the news, um, you'll see it
- 0:58Speaker 2: on social media. I think a lot of people took
- 1:00Speaker 2: to socials, um, TikTok and Instagram to express their frustrations. Now,
- 1:05Speaker 2: due to system issues and overwhelming crowds,
- 1:09Speaker 2: Thousands of attendees just found themselves queuing for hours and
- 1:12Speaker 2: hours and hours, um, just over the past weekend. So
- 1:15Speaker 2: this happens like, I think once every 2 years. So,
- 1:18Speaker 2: it's actually really good for independent and small businesses. That's
- 1:21Speaker 2: why I like it so much. But, um, yeah, the
- 1:24Speaker 2: thought of waiting there for, I don't know, 56 hours,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I think people waited like half a day to get
- 1:30Speaker 2: in and some people might have given up because they
- 1:32Speaker 2: said there were like 9000 people in the queue.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And the estimated wait time was like over 5 hours,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and some of them just felt like they burned their
- 1:42Speaker 2: entire weekend away, right? So, uh, a lot of, uh,
- 1:47Speaker 2: disappointed attendees have taken to social media, but the organizers
- 1:52Speaker 2: have come out to say that there were a lot
- 1:53Speaker 2: of unforeseen circumstances. They were overwhelmed, perhaps, I don't know,
- 1:58Speaker 2: I mean,
- 1:59Speaker 2: It's a good problem, right? Because there are too many
- 2:01Speaker 2: people that showed up, but I guess we always have
- 2:04Speaker 2: to be prepared for that kind of situation, although it's
- 2:07Speaker 2: a good problem, but how do you manage that is
- 2:09Speaker 2: gonna be cemented in a lot of people's minds for
- 2:12Speaker 2: a long time, and I just hope that they get
- 2:14Speaker 2: it together for the next round, which is in, I'm guessing,
- 2:18Speaker 2: would it be in, in another few months or another year? I,
- 2:21Speaker 2: I don't know how often they do it. Um, but yeah,
- 2:24Speaker 2: hopefully they learn from this and, uh, improve it a
- 2:27Speaker 2: lot more.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Honestly, for me, if I had to queue for something
- 2:31Speaker 2: for a very, very, very long time, here's the hope, right,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that if I get like a ticket or something, maybe
- 2:39Speaker 2: they should give a time slot. So they should just
- 2:42Speaker 2: slot you into specific times and give them, give them
- 2:45Speaker 2: a cutoff, that you can't just loiter in there for
- 2:48Speaker 2: 5 hours, you know. I think some people were just
- 2:51Speaker 2: in there for a very long time. That's why the
- 2:53Speaker 2: crowds were not moving. So, here's an idea for the organizers,
- 2:55Speaker 2: give them.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Allocated shopping hours and shopping time. Just a friendly reminder,
- 3:02Speaker 2: Olivia Rodrigo's album drops tomorrow at midnight, the 11th of June. Wait,
- 3:08Speaker 2: so I'm wondering, is that tonight?
- 3:12Speaker 2: You know, I always get confused, like, I need to
- 3:14Speaker 2: double and triple check when it comes to flights and
- 3:17Speaker 2: all that. Um, if it's midnight, I'm assuming it would
- 3:20Speaker 2: be tonight, but it will be in US timing, so
- 3:23Speaker 2: it's slightly different. Uh, definitely hang tight, hang in there.
- 3:28Speaker 2: It's gonna be really cute. I love the imaging already.
- 3:31Speaker 2: She's just like, she's, she's a girl in love at
- 3:35Speaker 2: the same time, there's a hint of heartbreak.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I just wonder whether it's, you know, from past experiences,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I'm sure because she still seems pretty in love, right? Yeah. Anyway, um,
- 3:45Speaker 2: organized in partnership with Record Store Day is going to
- 3:48Speaker 2: be the largest midnight sale events in, in recent days. So, um,
- 3:53Speaker 2: gonna be huge. Can't wait to see how it happens
- 3:55Speaker 2: and I'm sure you'll see it unfold on social media.
- 3:58Speaker 2: So, let's, let's reconfirm. Is that tonight or is that
- 4:00Speaker 2: tomorrow night? Um, yeah, some of, uh, some of these
- 4:04Speaker 2: articles have slightly conflicting information. So let me find a
- 4:07Speaker 2: real one. Maybe her own socials will be a little
- 4:10Speaker 2: bit more uh accurate, but just so you know, her
- 4:12Speaker 2: album drops this week.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Make sure you stand by for that. Madonna and Sabrina
- 4:17Speaker 2: Carpenter on this next one. Madonna seems to be really
- 4:21Speaker 2: living life. I mean, I want to be her at
- 4:23Speaker 2: her age. Coming up in just a while, um, this
- 4:26Speaker 2: has been a topic of conversation amongst my friends and
- 4:29Speaker 2: I since I came back from my trip, right? And
- 4:31Speaker 2: I was just lamenting to them because they were asking me, oh,
- 4:33Speaker 2: how was your trip and you're catching up and everything.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And I said, you know what, um, I hardly ever
- 4:38Speaker 2: say this, but during the time that I was in
- 4:41Speaker 2: the south of France, right?
- 4:42Speaker 2: I was like, wow, how nice would it be to
- 4:44Speaker 2: retire like this.
- 4:47Speaker 2: I mean, look, I, I hardly have thoughts of retirement, OK,
- 4:50Speaker 2: because I, I love working. But this was one of
- 4:53Speaker 2: the moments where I was like, wow, I could foresee
- 4:55Speaker 2: myself doing this when I retire. And my friends and
- 4:58Speaker 2: I started talking about like our ideal retirement later on
- 5:01Speaker 2: in life. And coming up in just a bit, this
- 5:04Speaker 2: couple from the US, they're not exactly of retirement age
- 5:08Speaker 2: just yet, although, you know what?
- 5:11Speaker 2: Retirement age is now a blur, right? People retire at
- 5:15Speaker 2: whatever they, whatever age they want nowadays and uh I
- 5:18Speaker 2: guess it depends also what, you know, what they want
- 5:21Speaker 2: to do or which country they're living in and the,
- 5:23Speaker 2: the expenses, right? But this, I think, is going to
- 5:27Speaker 2: start a chain of other people doing the same thing.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I'll tell you more in just a little bit because
- 5:32Speaker 2: this couple, they're not old, they're not old.
- 5:35Speaker 2: And they have shown us exactly how we might want
- 5:38Speaker 2: to live life and we can only do that vicariously
- 5:41Speaker 2: through them at this point in time. And uh Joakim
- 5:44Speaker 2: is back next week. He definitely misses me. He tagged
- 5:47Speaker 2: me in a picture yesterday.
- 5:50Speaker 2: On his travels. So, even boss Janice replied my story
- 5:54Speaker 2: and she was like, he, he missed you until he
- 5:57Speaker 2: knew to thank you in his Bhutan travels when you
- 5:59Speaker 2: weren't even there. I was like, yeah, OK, but it's
- 6:01Speaker 2: a bit of an inside joke there. So, all good. Um,
- 6:04Speaker 2: hope he's having a good time.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Just wanted to say, when I came back from my
- 6:08Speaker 2: trip from France, right, obviously, my friends wanted like all
- 6:11Speaker 2: the details. They're like, oh, you know, we love south
- 6:13Speaker 2: of France. I always wanted to go. Tell us more,
- 6:15Speaker 2: tell us more. So I was telling them like, seriously,
- 6:18Speaker 2: this was one of the trips that I felt, uh,
- 6:21Speaker 2: this could be retire, retirement life in the future. And
- 6:25Speaker 2: on several occasions that I felt that in France and
- 6:27Speaker 2: in Italy, I don't know whether it's that part of
- 6:30Speaker 2: the world, right, they just know how to relax and
- 6:32Speaker 2: live life, you know.
- 6:33Speaker 2: And it's so different from us here in Asia. It's,
- 6:36Speaker 2: it's just a very different energy and vibe altogether. They
- 6:39Speaker 2: don't have any guilts at all, right, for relaxing, whereas
- 6:43Speaker 2: I feel like as Asians,
- 6:45Speaker 2: I'm not sure if you relate, but sometimes I feel
- 6:48Speaker 2: a little bit guilty for relaxing too much. At some point,
- 6:52Speaker 2: I always feel like, oh, maybe I should, I need
- 6:54Speaker 2: to get back to work already, you know, it's just
- 6:55Speaker 2: inbuilt in me for some reason. But anyway, um, this
- 6:59Speaker 2: couple from the US decided to do something drastic. Now,
- 7:03Speaker 2: they're by no means considered, um, old or at retirement age,
- 7:08Speaker 2: I feel, you know, in Singapore, what our parents retire
- 7:11Speaker 2: so late, right? Um,
- 7:13Speaker 2: But it also is the standard of living and how
- 7:16Speaker 2: you want to live your life and what kind of
- 7:17Speaker 2: responsibilities you have. I think they're in their 40s and
- 7:20Speaker 2: they decided to choose a life of total freedom. They
- 7:24Speaker 2: sold everything, all their possessions, their assets, you know, house, whatever,
- 7:28Speaker 2: and their cars. They decided to pack everything into 12 suitcases,
- 7:34Speaker 2: and they're just living on cruise ships. They live out
- 7:37Speaker 2: at sea.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Full time, and they find that it's cheaper than living
- 7:42Speaker 2: on land. How cute is that? I mean, to each
- 7:45Speaker 2: his own, and if you love being out at sea,
- 7:48Speaker 2: that's fine. I mean, some people just genuinely, they don't
- 7:50Speaker 2: like being out in the ocean, right? But if they
- 7:52Speaker 2: like it and they can, I guess, cruise hop all
- 7:54Speaker 2: the time and experience different types of cruises, it it
- 7:58Speaker 2: would be kind of a cool life to live. I mean,
- 8:01Speaker 2: I'm looking at their photos, they look like they're living
- 8:04Speaker 2: life to the fullest. I'm very happy for them.
- 8:07Speaker 2: And in your 40s or early 50s, I mean, if
- 8:10Speaker 2: you can lead a life with such great quality and
- 8:13Speaker 2: be so happy, why not, right? Whatever floats your boat.
- 8:16Speaker 2: On this episode of Bodo Crime, Bodo Crime, Bodo Crime.
- 8:21Speaker 2: I'm taking you to a supermarket in Novena right now,
- 8:26Speaker 2: and this has got to do with alcohol. Now, I
- 8:30Speaker 2: know that wine and, you know, different types of alcohol now, um,
- 8:34Speaker 2: some people do find it quite expensive and it's no lie,
- 8:37Speaker 2: like when you go out, for example, when you go
- 8:39Speaker 2: party and stuff, yeah, it's expensive. That's why a lot
- 8:41Speaker 2: of us opt to, I don't know, do house parties
- 8:43Speaker 2: or something, then you can buy the drinks that you
- 8:46Speaker 2: like from the supermarket or somewhere a bit more affordable, right?
- 8:49Speaker 2: But even so, even so, it is considered like one
- 8:52Speaker 2: of the more expensive items you get from a supermarket. Um,
- 8:56Speaker 2: so for this woman, she's 31 years old.
- 8:59Speaker 2: Unfortunately for her, she's getting 4 weeks jail for stealing
- 9:04Speaker 2: 20 bottles of alcohol. Yeah, it's kind of crazy, worth
- 9:08Speaker 2: over $1000 from a supermarket in Novena, and this was
- 9:13Speaker 2: over the course of 12 separate occasions. So she didn't
- 9:16Speaker 2: do it all at once, obviously, that would be um
- 9:18Speaker 2: Even more stupid. There'll be even more boo, right? But
- 9:22Speaker 2: over 12 separate occasions between the months of April and May, um,
- 9:26Speaker 2: this happened, and I think, um, this, this was because she,
- 9:31Speaker 2: she had this tactic where she transferred the bottle from
- 9:34Speaker 2: the basket into her own like recyclable bag, you know, I,
- 9:38Speaker 2: I guess she brought her own shopping bag or trolley,
- 9:41Speaker 2: and she just casually walked out. Um, however, thanks to
- 9:45Speaker 2: a very alert manager,
- 9:48Speaker 2: The manager of the supermarket actually noticed discrepancies during a
- 9:51Speaker 2: stock check. This was sometime around um the weekend of
- 9:54Speaker 2: May 15th, which was my wedding weekend.
- 9:57Speaker 2: He proceeded to review the surveillance footage and discovered, oh man,
- 10:01Speaker 2: this lady has been sneakily doing this for quite some time.
- 10:05Speaker 2: So then a police report was lodged. Um, they recovered
- 10:07Speaker 2: 14 of the stolen bottles and uh I don't know
- 10:12Speaker 2: what the, the update is. I guess we'll find out
- 10:14Speaker 2: more in just a bit, but she's just been sentenced.
- 10:17Speaker 2: She did say she's remorseful of her actions and she
- 10:21Speaker 2: is hoping to, you know, just
- 10:23Speaker 2: I, I guess make amends and because she doesn't exactly
- 10:26Speaker 2: live here in Singapore, she wants to return home and
- 10:28Speaker 2: reunite with her family as soon as possible, but this
- 10:31Speaker 2: is a little bit silly, you know, because stealing bottles,
- 10:34Speaker 2: I mean, that's, you're bound to be found out very soon.
- 10:37Speaker 2: I'm not saying that you should steal anything else, but just,
- 10:40Speaker 2: just make it a point that stealing bottles of alcohol,
- 10:44Speaker 2: that's a sure way to get discovered. And in case
- 10:46Speaker 2: you missed it, just yesterday, I wanted to give a very,
- 10:49Speaker 2: very special shout out to a bunch.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Students who actually work with um Unboxed and if you're
- 10:55Speaker 2: not quite sure what Unboxed is, um they actually specialize
- 10:59Speaker 2: in tuition in several different subjects and they started a,
- 11:03Speaker 2: a student-led podcast, which is really cool. I, I wish
- 11:07Speaker 2: I had that kind of um opportunities and exposure back then, right?
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's really cool and they came down, gave a shout
- 11:14Speaker 2: out to the rest of the students on video because
- 11:16Speaker 2: not everyone could come.
- 11:18Speaker 2: And it's just such a heartwarming moment, you know, they,
- 11:21Speaker 2: some of them actually saw me visit their school back
- 11:24Speaker 2: then when they were in secondary school, and now they
- 11:27Speaker 2: just started poly, I guess, so they're about like 17
- 11:29Speaker 2: or 18, right? And it kind of just brought back
- 11:32Speaker 2: memories like, because I do remember visiting some of these
- 11:34Speaker 2: schools before, um, just not too long ago, to be honest,
- 11:38Speaker 2: like maybe 2 years back or 3 years at the most.
- 11:41Speaker 2: So it's always a pleasure for me to, to, uh,
- 11:45Speaker 2: get to know these students, especially on a different level
- 11:48Speaker 2: when they're trying to learn public speaking skills and, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 2: just promoting their podcast. I live for that. So, hey,
- 11:57Speaker 2: if you have anyone that you know, students or you're
- 12:00Speaker 2: just trying to get out there with your projects and
- 12:02Speaker 2: all that, please feel free to reach us, hit us up.
- 12:05Speaker 2: We would love to help you out. It's, it's been
- 12:07Speaker 2: a fun ride.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Like I mentioned earlier, um, something that you might have
- 12:11Speaker 2: missed over the past couple of days, I cannot believe
- 12:13Speaker 2: I didn't see this yesterday because this is a place
- 12:16Speaker 2: that I used to go to a lot with my friends, um,
- 12:20Speaker 2: over at Takashimaya or Nan City as we call it.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Uh, there's a hotpot restaurant called Coca, C O C A.
- 12:27Speaker 2: Are you familiar with that? I mean, if you, um,
- 12:30Speaker 2: go to town often, you definitely would have seen it before.
- 12:32Speaker 2: It's on the higher floors. And this was like before
- 12:36Speaker 2: Hai Til Lao existed here in Singapore, OK. Hai Til Lao, when,
- 12:39Speaker 2: when did Hai Til Lao come to Singapore? I mean, what,
- 12:41Speaker 2: 10 years ago or maybe more or less? I, I'm
- 12:45Speaker 2: not entirely sure. I'll search it up or if you
- 12:47Speaker 2: know the answer, please send me a message, 90050987.
- 12:50Speaker 2: But before the dawn of your mala hot pots, your
- 12:54Speaker 2: mala shankwas, your Hai T Laos, and all the big
- 12:56Speaker 2: chains coming to Singapore, there was Koka, OK? And Koka,
- 13:00Speaker 2: I believe it is a local steamboat place.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And they've only got one outlet from what I know. Um,
- 13:08Speaker 2: they've been there for more than 3 decades, if I'm
- 13:10Speaker 2: not wrong, like more than 30, 30 years or exactly
- 13:13Speaker 2: 30 years or so. Unfortunately, they are closing down. Oh no.
- 13:18Speaker 2: The last day of operations will be in 4 days
- 13:21Speaker 2: on the 14th of June, saying a big farewell. Uh,
- 13:24Speaker 2: I used to really love their, their green noodles that
- 13:26Speaker 2: they have. I'm not sure if it's called spinach noodles
- 13:28Speaker 2: or something, and they had like tom yum soup and stuff.
- 13:30Speaker 2: It was just very simple pleasures, but I really, really
- 13:33Speaker 2: liked it. Um, but they're offering a weekday dinner buffet promotion,
- 13:36Speaker 2: so every group of 4 adults, you only pay for 2.
- 13:39Speaker 2: So it's basically 50% off, right? All you gotta do
- 13:42Speaker 2: is quote Taka farewell to enjoy the promotion.
- 13:46Speaker 2: And I'm sorry, I stand corrected. They have one more
- 13:48Speaker 2: outlet over at Suntec City, but the one over at
- 13:51Speaker 2: Takashimaya and Nan City is like the OG. They're really,
- 13:55Speaker 2: they were there since the beginning. So, if you still
- 13:58Speaker 2: want to get your Coca fix, they do have one
- 14:00Speaker 2: more over at Suntec City. But thank you so much
- 14:03Speaker 2: for the memories. I mean, you know, being at Coca,
- 14:06Speaker 2: dining at Coca was like a big treat to us
- 14:08Speaker 2: back then as students, like, so with my friends and I.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Ever wanted to treat ourselves and it's steamboat, it would
- 14:14Speaker 2: be Coca over in town. And can you imagine how
- 14:16Speaker 2: fancy we felt at that age? We're like, have to
- 14:20Speaker 2: save money to, to be able to afford a hot
- 14:22Speaker 2: pot and, you know, we would go down to town,
- 14:25Speaker 2: which made us feel even fancier, right?
- 14:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure you know how I feel. Ask you
- 14:31Speaker 2: a question earlier, just uh to look back and think.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Have you ever lost an item and how, what was
- 14:37Speaker 2: the extent you you went to actually retrieve it back?
- 14:41Speaker 2: And was it a lot of effort? Did you find
- 14:42Speaker 2: it immediately? Was it a tech item? Was it something
- 14:45Speaker 2: you could track or not? Because this guy, um, here
- 14:48Speaker 2: in Singapore actually.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He lost his AirPods case, OK, and he tracked it
- 14:54Speaker 2: for 3 long hours, very long, but, you know, it's
- 14:59Speaker 2: rather entertaining because he, uh, he documented it, um, saying
- 15:02Speaker 2: hi to Ethan. He lost the case either at Beauty
- 15:06Speaker 2: World or Neon Poly. So, um, you know, I, I,
- 15:08Speaker 2: I'm assuming that it's around, yeah, it's all around the
- 15:11Speaker 2: west side, right? Because I lost my laptop before when
- 15:14Speaker 2: I was a Neon student. I left it on the
- 15:17Speaker 2: bus because I was so sleepy.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I, I put the laptop on the, on the seat
- 15:21Speaker 2: next to me and then I, I walked off the bus. Thankfully,
- 15:25Speaker 2: I got it back because basically the bus is just
- 15:27Speaker 2: full of students. I think someone picked it up and
- 15:28Speaker 2: was like, OK, must belong to a Neam Poly student. Anyway, um,
- 15:33Speaker 2: you know, replacing an AirPods case is not cheap. I
- 15:36Speaker 2: think it'd be about what, like $140 or so, 100+, right?
- 15:40Speaker 2: So he attempted to recover it instead. Now, using the
- 15:43Speaker 2: Find my location tracking app, he was actually shocked to
- 15:46Speaker 2: see that
- 15:47Speaker 2: It was first located at Jurong Point. So the case
- 15:50Speaker 2: traveled from Jurong Point towards Toa Payoh, and you can,
- 15:53Speaker 2: you can track it. So then, um, the, the, the
- 15:57Speaker 2: entire route actually matches the bus service that he was on,
- 16:00Speaker 2: and he spent more than 30 minutes searching the area
- 16:03Speaker 2: over at Toa Payoh bus interchange. But then he saw, hey,
- 16:06Speaker 2: the case was moving again, the location was moving. So
- 16:10Speaker 2: he suspected someone was carrying it or someone had it
- 16:13Speaker 2: or something, right?
- 16:15Speaker 2: Um, and I think that person probably heard the pinging
- 16:18Speaker 2: because when you want to search and identify your item,
- 16:21Speaker 2: you can actually ping off it. And I think, um,
- 16:24Speaker 2: eventually he suspected that the person who had it tossed
- 16:26Speaker 2: it aside after hearing the pinging. And then rather than
- 16:30Speaker 2: confronting the person or filing a police report, he ultimately
- 16:33Speaker 2: decided to drop the matter because he found the AirPods
- 16:36Speaker 2: case in the end. After 3 hours, that's a, that's
- 16:39Speaker 2: a lot of effort, but
- 16:40Speaker 2: I say props to him, man. If you save money
- 16:43Speaker 2: to buy this with your own hard earned money, like,
- 16:46Speaker 2: find it, get it back, get it back. I mean,
- 16:48Speaker 2: I was panicking when I misplaced my laptop as a
- 16:51Speaker 2: student because I wouldn't be able to pay that money
- 16:53Speaker 2: to get another laptop, you know, but because at that point,
- 16:57Speaker 2: my MacBook was registered to the school, I think it'll
- 17:01Speaker 2: be difficult for anyone to do anything funny with it
- 17:04Speaker 2: or like resell it because we had the registration, the
- 17:07Speaker 2: barcode and everything that was to the school. So hopefully,
- 17:10Speaker 2: Because of that serial number, you know, people were less,
- 17:14Speaker 2: they would be less encouraged to steal an item. But
- 17:18Speaker 2: keep your items safe. Look, people lose things all the
- 17:21Speaker 2: time and I myself have lost a couple of things before.
- 17:24Speaker 2: Some of them never got returned to me, so I
- 17:26Speaker 2: know how that feels. Coming up right after 8:00 a.m., uh,
- 17:30Speaker 2: this one is super relatable. When I saw this piece
- 17:32Speaker 2: of news, I can already identify which person in my
- 17:35Speaker 2: friend group is the person that will be alert enough
- 17:38Speaker 2: for this, and it's not me.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Um, it's got to do with whether or not you are, um,
- 17:43Speaker 2: alert enough to see if you've been charged for something
- 17:46Speaker 2: that you didn't have on your receipt.
- 17:50Speaker 2: So this, this happened to someone who ordered a food,
- 17:53Speaker 2: food on a food delivery service, OK? And you know,
- 17:56Speaker 2: sometimes you can opt out of um of containers or
- 17:59Speaker 2: maybe of like cutlery and things like that. So, maybe
- 18:03Speaker 2: for a certain
- 18:04Speaker 2: For certain restaurants, they charge a little bit extra for
- 18:08Speaker 2: like a plastic container or something along those lines. Sometimes
- 18:11Speaker 2: if you don't want it, then they'll just give it
- 18:13Speaker 2: to you in like a, you know, those plastic bags
- 18:15Speaker 2: with that, that, that old school tie tie thing. What
- 18:18Speaker 2: do you call that? The one with the plastic tie
- 18:20Speaker 2: around thing on the top, right?
- 18:22Speaker 2: So anyway, um, more on that in just a while,
- 18:24Speaker 2: but I want you to have a think about that
- 18:27Speaker 2: person in your group of friends or maybe your family
- 18:29Speaker 2: that's alert enough to spot these little things, especially when
- 18:34Speaker 2: it comes to things that you didn't actually order or
- 18:36Speaker 2: you didn't have, but they showed up on your receipt.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Because I can safely say I am not the most
- 18:41Speaker 2: alert person. I can be quite blur sometimes, so I,
- 18:45Speaker 2: I wouldn't count on myself to spot these mistakes, but
- 18:48Speaker 2: have a think about that and in exchange, a $100
- 18:50Speaker 2: dining experience could be yours. I'll tell you more about
- 18:53Speaker 2: Wild Seed Cafe in just a bit. Now, this might
- 18:56Speaker 2: be super relevant to you and your group of friends
- 18:58Speaker 2: or maybe even your family, OK?
- 19:00Speaker 2: I was uh taking a read at one of these
- 19:02Speaker 2: articles that popped up this morning about how a person
- 19:06Speaker 2: that ordered something on a food delivery service app was
- 19:09Speaker 2: actually charged $1.50 for a beverage container deposit fee for
- 19:14Speaker 2: an order with no drinks, meaning to say there were,
- 19:17Speaker 2: there were no drinks involved, but somehow there was an
- 19:20Speaker 2: additional fee. So I think it was a system error
- 19:22Speaker 2: or something and the merchant said, you know, so sorry, we'll,
- 19:25Speaker 2: we'll assist you with the refunds, but you gotta um
- 19:28Speaker 2: Make sure that you look very closely because sometimes I don't.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I have to admit, I, I trust the system too much,
- 19:36Speaker 2: I feel sometimes, and even sometimes when we're going for
- 19:39Speaker 2: dinner or drinks or what, and you want to take
- 19:41Speaker 2: a look at the bill or one person gets the bill,
- 19:43Speaker 2: then everyone pays you back, right? So, usually, um, if
- 19:47Speaker 2: you take a look at the bill, it's gonna be
- 19:49Speaker 2: long if you have invited quite a number of people
- 19:52Speaker 2: to the dinner. Do you really register what's going on
- 19:55Speaker 2: on the receipt or do you just like
- 19:58Speaker 2: You just pay for it. I mean, I, I want
- 20:00Speaker 2: to open up the phone lines, 669-11987 based off this
- 20:04Speaker 2: story and also my own reflections. Who is the person
- 20:08Speaker 2: in your group of friends or your family that is
- 20:11Speaker 2: super alert and will always make sure that they, they
- 20:15Speaker 2: pick up any mistakes or they note, you know, every
- 20:18Speaker 2: single charge to the receipt, to the bill, um, to
- 20:20Speaker 2: your order? Who is that person that is super particular
- 20:23Speaker 2: and alert?
- 20:25Speaker 2: And on the flip side, if you have anyone that
- 20:26Speaker 2: is really quite blur like myself sometimes, you can also
- 20:29Speaker 2: let me know, 669-11987. Tell me your stories or you
- 20:34Speaker 2: can also drop me a WhatsApp message, 90050987, in exchange,
- 20:39Speaker 2: a $100 dining experience to Wild Seed Cafe. This is
- 20:43Speaker 2: at One Flower Hill in Sentosa. It is worth $100
- 20:46Speaker 2: like I mentioned.
- 20:47Speaker 2: And it's gonna be so pretty, a Japanese Western inspired
- 20:51Speaker 2: dining experience. Imagine Wagyu meats, grilled dishes, cocktails, all within
- 20:56Speaker 2: a beautiful garden atmosphere that, and we're talking about whether
- 20:59Speaker 2: or not you have a friend in your group or
- 21:02Speaker 2: maybe a family member.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Who's super alert and particular when it comes to going
- 21:06Speaker 2: through your bill, your receipts, like they're able to spot
- 21:09Speaker 2: like mistakes or anything because there was a case recently
- 21:12Speaker 2: where someone ordered something on a food delivery platform and
- 21:15Speaker 2: there was an additional charge for something that wasn't ordered.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I'm sure this happens sometimes. It could be an error,
- 21:21Speaker 2: a mistake, but, you know, oftentimes we're also very trusting,
- 21:25Speaker 2: at least I am, like, you know, when you order,
- 21:27Speaker 2: you just don't think, right? You just order.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And sometimes the, the fee, delivery fee or small order
- 21:33Speaker 2: fee and all that, it kind of adds up. So,
- 21:35Speaker 2: you may or may not notice certain other additional things
- 21:38Speaker 2: added to your bill that may not be, may not
- 21:41Speaker 2: have been ordered. So, I wanted to head to the
- 21:43Speaker 2: phone lines, um, but I'll head to your messages first.
- 21:46Speaker 2: Quite a few messages coming through and I'm saying hi
- 21:49Speaker 2: over here to Amir. You say, good morning, Sonia. Just yesterday,
- 21:53Speaker 2: My friend booked a table where we're gonna eat and
- 21:55Speaker 2: catch up with another friend today. So that's the 3
- 21:58Speaker 2: of us, right? When she looked at the booking confirmation,
- 22:01Speaker 2: I saw that it was a party for 2. Now,
- 22:04Speaker 2: me being the only guy in the trio, said, hey,
- 22:06Speaker 2: I'm left out.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Then my friend said, hey, wow, you read through the booking, uh, like,
- 22:11Speaker 2: and you also put in bracket, yes, I'm a supervisor
- 22:14Speaker 2: at work. Love them to bits still. So maybe you
- 22:18Speaker 2: are the one that really took note because sometimes when
- 22:20Speaker 2: it comes to the, the packs, amount of people coming
- 22:23Speaker 2: for the dinner, we may overlook that, but it could
- 22:25Speaker 2: be a big difference if you book for 2 versus
- 22:27Speaker 2: booking for 3, there may not be space at the
- 22:30Speaker 2: same timing, right? So I hope your dinner goes well
- 22:33Speaker 2: later on.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Anyway, OK, more messages coming through in just a little bit. Um,
- 22:38Speaker 2: we've got one here coming from Zach who says, morning, morning, Sonia.
- 22:42Speaker 2: It's actually my sister who's very alert and particular. You
- 22:46Speaker 2: know why? Because she is a trained auditor.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Her job is to spot mistakes and errors, and I replied, wow,
- 22:55Speaker 2: that's very, very useful to have someone like that in your,
- 22:58Speaker 2: in your family, you know. I mean, for me, I
- 23:01Speaker 2: already admit I'm very bad with any sort of admin,
- 23:04Speaker 2: Excel sheets and all that. Um, in fact, during the
- 23:07Speaker 2: wedding planning, the, the planner actually set up a whole
- 23:11Speaker 2: entire Excel sheet for the guest list, right? And I,
- 23:15Speaker 2: I wanted to go and make some changes in regards
- 23:18Speaker 2: to the guest list. I messed it all up.
- 23:21Speaker 2: To the point where they had to restore the original
- 23:24Speaker 2: copy so that we can refer to it again.
- 23:27Speaker 2: To which, uh, Jeremy was not very happy. He was
- 23:30Speaker 2: quite irritated. He said, hey, people put in so much
- 23:33Speaker 2: effort to do this, you messed it all up. I'm like,
- 23:34Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I'm so bad with tech admin. I'm bad
- 23:38Speaker 2: with admin. OK, when we come back, uh, some callers
- 23:41Speaker 2: hang in on the line. There's still time for your stories. 669-11987.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Give me a call. The question is, who's the person
- 23:49Speaker 2: in your group of friends or family that's very particular and,
- 23:54Speaker 2: you know, really, really trained to spot mistakes?
- 23:57Speaker 2: Very alert. Who is that person in your family or
- 24:00Speaker 2: group of friends? Now, we're talking about the person in
- 24:03Speaker 2: your friend group or your family that's very sharp and
- 24:06Speaker 2: very alert, especially when it comes to spotting mistakes on
- 24:09Speaker 2: a bill, a receipt. And this person, really, you should
- 24:13Speaker 2: assign him or her to look through every bill and
- 24:16Speaker 2: every receipt, OK? Because when it comes down to all this, right,
- 24:19Speaker 2: I can be a little bit blur sometimes, so yeah,
- 24:21Speaker 2: I I'm admitting it myself.
- 24:23Speaker 2: So I'm heading to, uh, back to messages first. There
- 24:25Speaker 2: are too many messages to read out, so you didn't
- 24:27Speaker 2: leave your name, but um your, your username is quite funny.
- 24:31Speaker 2: I shall not read it out. But you said, hey, Sonia,
- 24:34Speaker 2: it's actually my bestie. She's a primary school teacher, so
- 24:37Speaker 2: she marks mistakes every day and has a sharp eye
- 24:41Speaker 2: for details.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Um, I used to be a relief teacher back then,
- 24:45Speaker 2: but clearly, I did not pursue it as a proper
- 24:48Speaker 2: career or career for the rest of my life. I
- 24:50Speaker 2: don't think I was very good at marking. I might
- 24:53Speaker 2: have been too lenient, I think.
- 24:55Speaker 2: OK, uh, more messages coming through right now saying hi
- 24:58Speaker 2: to A. You say, good morning, Sonia. That person is
- 25:02Speaker 2: my husband, but he's only good at spotting our mistakes,
- 25:07Speaker 2: AKA my daughters and myself. He will always open inverted commas,
- 25:11Speaker 2: miss his own mistakes.
- 25:14Speaker 2: Have a wonderful day ahead, Sonia. Thank you so much
- 25:16Speaker 2: for that. Um, you know, bit double standard over there,
- 25:20Speaker 2: but I guess we can always, we're always more critical
- 25:23Speaker 2: of other people's mistakes than our own, are we? Oh, no,
- 25:27Speaker 2: I can be quite critical of myself, uh, meaning to say,
- 25:29Speaker 2: when I realized I've made a mistake, I, I tend
- 25:32Speaker 2: to fixate on it for quite some time and I
- 25:35Speaker 2: need a few days to get over it.
- 25:38Speaker 2: OK, um, 2 callers coming up in just a bit.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Please stay tuned for those phone calls. Having a good
- 25:43Speaker 2: chuckle at some of your messages coming through. Now, uh,
- 25:45Speaker 2: inspired by a story about how someone actually ordered some
- 25:49Speaker 2: food on a food delivery app and there was an
- 25:51Speaker 2: additional charge for something that this person did not quite
- 25:55Speaker 2: place an order for. So, it inspired me to think
- 25:58Speaker 2: about all the times where I feel I'm not exactly
- 26:01Speaker 2: the most alert person when it comes to checking the bill.
- 26:04Speaker 2: I I try my best to be, but if it's
- 26:06Speaker 2: not such an obvious mistake, I may miss it. My
- 26:08Speaker 2: dad used to call me careless because in, you know,
- 26:11Speaker 2: in school when I did math and all that, I
- 26:13Speaker 2: was very careless. That was my bad habit. I'm saying
- 26:15Speaker 2: hi to Jay, you say, morning, Sonia. Happy Wednesday. Honestly,
- 26:18Speaker 2: I'm usually the designated alert one whenever my family eats out.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Case in point, we went to a dim sum place
- 26:25Speaker 2: for lunch once and they accidentally double charged us for
- 26:28Speaker 2: the Peking duck. My dad, classic him, just paid the
- 26:32Speaker 2: bill without looking.
- 26:33Speaker 2: And came back to the table complaining about how ridiculously
- 26:36Speaker 2: expensive it was. I took one look at the receipt,
- 26:39Speaker 2: saw the double entry, and marched over to the staff
- 26:42Speaker 2: to get them to reverse the charge.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Well, I mean, look, you know, your dad has a
- 26:47Speaker 2: point though, because things are getting more and more expensive lately, right?
- 26:51Speaker 2: Sometimes you don't even question, you're like prepared to pay
- 26:53Speaker 2: a certain amount when you eat out, but the fact
- 26:55Speaker 2: that they double charged the Peking duck, I mean, I'm
- 26:58Speaker 2: assuming that's the most expensive dish on your, on your
- 27:00Speaker 2: receipt that particular day. Good on you, good on you
- 27:03Speaker 2: for spotting that. I, I, I hope that I can
- 27:06Speaker 2: do the same for my family.
- 27:08Speaker 2: We have uh Danielle on the line right now. So
- 27:10Speaker 2: what about you? Who is that person in your group
- 27:12Speaker 2: of friends or family? It's actually me.
- 27:16Speaker 2: OK, good. That's a good thing. Tell me more. Do
- 27:18Speaker 2: you have an experience or something that it happened to you?
- 27:20Speaker 2: It's actually just recently, uh, we actually went to celebrate
- 27:23Speaker 2: one of our family members' birthday. There is actually this
- 27:26Speaker 2: bill that was charged on our receipt that it cost
- 27:29Speaker 2: $168 just for tea. So the amount was actually for
- 27:35Speaker 2: about $4 plus for 5 packs. So there's 7 of us.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Instead of a group of 5 and then to add
- 27:42Speaker 2: on maybe another portion, they add on to 7. So
- 27:44Speaker 2: it's like 7 times 535 portions of tea charged to obviously.
- 27:48Speaker 2: I mean that that's a big enough for you to
- 27:50Speaker 2: have a red flag, right, whoa, wait. Yeah, so it
- 27:54Speaker 2: was stated premium tea. I thought how premium is that
- 27:56Speaker 2: it's $168. That's right. So how did you just tell
- 28:01Speaker 2: them it was a
- 28:02Speaker 2: It's a genuine mistake, right? I'm assuming. Yeah, I think so,
- 28:04Speaker 2: and then they refunded back to us after that. Thank
- 28:06Speaker 2: you so much for your call, Danielle. Thank you. You
- 28:08Speaker 2: have a great day. Bye-bye. Talking about who is the
- 28:12Speaker 2: sharpest person in your group of friends or your family,
- 28:15Speaker 2: because you always need that one assigned person to look
- 28:17Speaker 2: at the bill or review the receipt, right? When, when
- 28:20Speaker 2: you go for dinners, especially or you eat out or
- 28:22Speaker 2: even when you order a big order of food.
- 28:25Speaker 2: Um, more often than not, it's OK. Like there will
- 28:29Speaker 2: not be any mistakes, but sometimes there could be errors, right?
- 28:31Speaker 2: Human error, tech error, glitch, whatever. So, um, my question
- 28:36Speaker 2: for you today was actually, who's the person in your
- 28:39Speaker 2: group of friends or family that's very alert and sharp? Um,
- 28:43Speaker 2: so saying hi here to you didn't.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Leave your name here, but I'm just gonna call you T,
- 28:47Speaker 2: that's your initial. Morning, Sonia. My son has an eagle
- 28:51Speaker 2: eye for mistakes, especially with food orders. He notices almost everything,
- 28:56Speaker 2: even small charges like wet tissue returns. OK. One time
- 29:01Speaker 2: we forgot our desserts and he spotted it right at
- 29:03Speaker 2: the cashier. Another time he spotted my, uh, GrabFood order.
- 29:07Speaker 2: The salad should have been a garden salad, not a coleslaw,
- 29:11Speaker 2: which I did not even notice. So yes, to answer
- 29:14Speaker 2: your question, he's our official bill auditor now.
- 29:19Speaker 2: Look, this could be um a good career path for him.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Maybe he's really meant to be an auditor or an accountant,
- 29:26Speaker 2: if they're very sharp, right? You never know. This could
- 29:29Speaker 2: be opening doors to the future.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Thank you so much for sharing all your stories. Now,
- 29:33Speaker 2: when we come back, one person is walking away with
- 29:36Speaker 2: this lovely experience, and this is all thanks to Wild
- 29:39Speaker 2: Seed at One Flower Hill situated in the beautiful Sentosa.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Thank you so much for all your messages and your calls. Honestly,
- 29:46Speaker 2: cracked me up so much. We're talking about who's the
- 29:48Speaker 2: most sharp and alert person in your group of friends
- 29:51Speaker 2: or family that will always spot mistakes in the bill
- 29:54Speaker 2: or the receipts. And if not for this person, you
- 29:57Speaker 2: may just be quite blur and just pay for whatever
- 30:00Speaker 2: without checking properly.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Um, and only 1 person can walk away with this
- 30:04Speaker 2: wild Seed cafe dining experience worth 100 bucks here today. Officially,
- 30:08Speaker 2: it goes to Jay, who texted me earlier on.
- 30:12Speaker 2: About how you are the designated alert one because your
- 30:15Speaker 2: family eats out and uh most recently, your dad almost
- 30:21Speaker 2: paid double time for the Peking duck.
- 30:24Speaker 2: So there was a double charge for the Peking duck
- 30:26Speaker 2: on your receipt and no one spotted it, but your
- 30:28Speaker 2: dad was complaining like, oh, how expensive things are nowadays,
- 30:31Speaker 2: and to which, uh, Jay actually looked at the receipt
- 30:34Speaker 2: and in one glance, she registered that, they double charged
- 30:37Speaker 2: us for the Peking duck. So without Jay, her family
- 30:40Speaker 2: would have paid for two Peking ducks, but only have
- 30:43Speaker 2: eaten one.
- 30:44Speaker 2: So please enjoy yourself over at Wild Sea Cafe at
- 30:46Speaker 2: One Flower Hill worth 100 bucks. You should bring your
- 30:49Speaker 2: family with you. They're launching their new dining concept. It's
- 30:52Speaker 2: a Japanese western inspired grill experience. So you have the
- 30:57Speaker 2: Japanese inspired drinks, then at night you get your Wagyu meats,
- 31:00Speaker 2: grilled dishes, cocktails, all within a beautiful hilltop garden atmosphere.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Please follow them. That's 1, the number 1, flowerhill.sg on Instagram.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Now, we're talking about how the new change in uh
- 31:13Speaker 2: pay now display names have um caused a little bit
- 31:16Speaker 2: of conversation online and I think some people were just
- 31:19Speaker 2: like chuckling over how some of their names due to
- 31:23Speaker 2: um using the masking method, they used the letter X
- 31:28Speaker 2: to mask your names, right? Rather than like a star or,
- 31:32Speaker 2: I don't know, just blank it out.
- 31:34Speaker 2: Um, they are marked with X's by default because nicknames
- 31:38Speaker 2: were phased out in a bid to stop scammers, right? OK, that's, that's,
- 31:42Speaker 2: that's actually a good thing because we are getting too much,
- 31:45Speaker 2: too many scams are getting too sophisticated right now. Um, unfortunately,
- 31:49Speaker 2: due to the recent masking of usernames, some people have
- 31:52Speaker 2: reported that their names have been changed to a slightly
- 31:55Speaker 2: obscene word. Now, I'm not gonna say on, on air, obviously,
- 31:58Speaker 2: I'm not gonna say it, but it's been, um, reported
- 32:00Speaker 2: in some articles on some news channels already.
- 32:03Speaker 2: So, unfortunately, it's not looking too great for some people's names,
- 32:08Speaker 2: but it was explained that X was chosen to hide
- 32:10Speaker 2: certain letters because it's generally recognized as an alphabet to
- 32:13Speaker 2: represent something that's concealed or missing, and it also looks
- 32:17Speaker 2: like a crossed out mark, right? Um, unfortunately, you know, I,
- 32:21Speaker 2: I guess we didn't expect this to happen.
- 32:23Speaker 2: Um, we'll see where it goes, and, uh, I think
- 32:26Speaker 2: the powers that be said they seek customers' understandings, they
- 32:29Speaker 2: will continue to review feedback for future improvements. So I
