- 0:04Speaker 1: For twenty holds a lot of meaning.
- 0:08Speaker 2: For who for you?
- 0:10Speaker 1: Oh, for Don Mattingly, it's his birthday. Oh Mark our
- 0:14Speaker 1: dude buying the seeds running ft. It's his favorite player
- 0:18Speaker 1: growing up and in life.
- 0:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and now I.
- 0:21Speaker 1: Guess maybe favorite coach or could be a manager sooner.
- 0:23Speaker 1: All right, we'll get into that later. But one other
- 0:27Speaker 1: thing while we're talking about for twenty in all seriousness, krats.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I mean, the comments are out the year often are like, oh,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I want what Kratz is on and I'm like, I
- 0:40Speaker 1: don't think he's who you think he is. So this
- 0:42Speaker 1: is probably a good day to remind everyone that Eric
- 0:45Speaker 1: Kratz too is celebrating for twenty as bench coach of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Phillies Don Lee's birthday. And that's about it.
- 0:52Speaker 2: That's it.
- 0:53Speaker 3: I mean, if I have a reason in for twenty
- 0:55Speaker 3: to eat some cake, then that's going to be because
- 0:57Speaker 3: of Donnie Baseball or Kyle Higgs anything like that.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yes, thank you. One other thing before we start, and
- 1:06Speaker 1: we'll get into a little bit of n L Central talk.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Have you seen the records in that division so far? Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: they're really good.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Yeah, they're the one good team.
- 1:15Speaker 1: They're the one good division, right, yeah, good division. So
- 1:18Speaker 1: fourteen and eight is the top of the division. That's
- 1:20Speaker 1: the Reds. The bottom of the division is the Cubs
- 1:23Speaker 1: and the Brewers at twelve and nine. Super early. I'm
- 1:25Speaker 1: not I don't care what the standings are. When all
- 1:27Speaker 1: of those teams are above five hundred, close enough. It's
- 1:29Speaker 1: just that they're all playing well. All often nice one
- 1:33Speaker 1: month starts to the season. You don't see that very often. No,
- 1:38Speaker 1: all five teams, but yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 4: We think all five will be at the end of
- 1:42Speaker 4: the day.
- 1:42Speaker 2: No, no, of course not. It's good.
- 1:46Speaker 4: It's good for teams like Cincinnati. It's good for teams
- 1:48Speaker 4: like Pittsburgh. It's good for those teams that have kind
- 1:51Speaker 4: of I don't want to say bottom dwelled for a
- 1:53Speaker 4: long time, but they've kind of bottomed world for a
- 1:55Speaker 4: long time, and so it's nice for them to get
- 1:58Speaker 4: a little hope for the fans.
- 2:00Speaker 2: You look on.
- 2:00Speaker 4: Pittsburgh's playing really well. They had a nice series with
- 2:02Speaker 4: the Rays, they raising them, had a battle of the series,
- 2:04Speaker 4: and it's nice. It's nice for other teams other than
- 2:08Speaker 4: you know, and then the Cubs and Brewers are just
- 2:11Speaker 4: kind of hanging around.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yep, they are and the Cardinals are playing well. They're
- 2:14Speaker 1: the most surprising team because they are in rebuild mode.
- 2:18Speaker 1: That is very clear cut.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Not if Jordan Walker keeps in Homer every day, and it's.
- 2:21Speaker 1: True, the lineup can bang. We have been waiting for
- 2:26Speaker 1: guys like that to emerge, and now it's happening. They're
- 2:29Speaker 1: getting the freedom and a little less pressure too. I
- 2:32Speaker 1: would say krats to just go out there every day
- 2:34Speaker 1: and do your thing to see what it looks like
- 2:36Speaker 1: for the future.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Obviously not talking about swing changes or you know, approach
- 2:41Speaker 3: changes with Brent Brown or anything like that. These dudes
- 2:44Speaker 3: have been playing a bunch of different positions and the
- 2:46Speaker 3: fact that they've gotten rid of certain guys, not that
- 2:50Speaker 3: those guys weren't good players, but it gets It allows
- 2:54Speaker 3: a spot in the lineup to be played six days
- 2:57Speaker 3: a week and not well you're going to play second.
- 3:00Speaker 3: In two days, you're gonna play third. Well, you know
- 3:02Speaker 3: what we need you in to line to see you
- 3:04Speaker 3: and left? Okay, we're going to dh No, actually you
- 3:06Speaker 3: catch no. These guys are playing every day at one
- 3:08Speaker 3: position and it's helping them.
- 3:11Speaker 1: And this is a perfect comparison to the division. We're
- 3:13Speaker 1: about to tackle the NL Beast. But by NL Beast,
- 3:16Speaker 1: I just mean one team. So let's charge the NL
- 3:23Speaker 1: Beast is the Atlanta Braves. They just swept the Phillies
- 3:28Speaker 1: over the weekend. They're fifteen and seven. The rest of
- 3:30Speaker 1: the division is sub five hundred. The Mets are in
- 3:33Speaker 1: mess right now, we'll get to that. Yeah, let's start
- 3:37Speaker 1: with the Braves and Phillies. Did you learn more about
- 3:39Speaker 1: the Braves this weekend or the Phillies this weekend who
- 3:42Speaker 1: have been stumbling The Mets are kind of stealing their thunder.
- 3:44Speaker 1: The Mets are seven and fifteen, the Phillies are eight
- 3:47Speaker 1: and thirteen.
- 3:49Speaker 4: I learned more about the Phillies. I was very disappointed
- 3:52Speaker 4: in the Phillies, and just because they're built around these
- 3:58Speaker 4: offensive names. In the and Rio Moto is getting older.
- 4:01Speaker 4: He's beat up a little bit, okay, but Alec Bohm
- 4:03Speaker 4: is like one for his last thirty. I mean he's
- 4:06Speaker 4: won for twenty seven, so he got He did get
- 4:08Speaker 4: a hit on Saturday, a single, so now he's like
- 4:10Speaker 4: two for thirty. Sorry, Bryce and stadd didn't play again.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I know it was Chris Sale, but like Stott is
- 4:15Speaker 4: not doing anything. Uh, it's like man where did this go? Trade?
- 4:21Speaker 4: Turner is not off to I mean he's off to
- 4:23Speaker 4: a fine star, not a great start, But once you
- 4:25Speaker 4: get past Harper in that lineup, it's like what happened?
- 4:30Speaker 4: Because this was supposed to be the kind of the
- 4:32Speaker 4: strength for years, right, they were built on guys that
- 4:34Speaker 4: could hit and hit and hit. Now, Justin Crawford didn't play,
- 4:37Speaker 4: but he's not a guy you can count and carry
- 4:38Speaker 4: the team. He's a contact guy, steel bases. But I
- 4:41Speaker 4: was just kind of surprised with the line, you know,
- 4:44Speaker 4: because you always think Phillies are going to hit with
- 4:46Speaker 4: Harper and Schorber and Turner and Real Muto and Bohm
- 4:49Speaker 4: and man just they're all off to kind of a
- 4:52Speaker 4: not a great start together, and that's a surprise. Listen
- 4:55Speaker 4: the Christopher Sanchez on the game I did Saturday night.
- 4:58Speaker 4: I pitched a great game, I mean not a great game.
- 4:59Speaker 4: He it was one inning where they gave up three
- 5:01Speaker 4: hundred runs because so made an error and then there
- 5:04Speaker 4: was slipped and a couple of blue pits and all
- 5:06Speaker 4: of a sudden they're down the sail and the Brave's
- 5:09Speaker 4: bullpen was incredible, but they lost to Elder.
- 5:12Speaker 2: They lost to.
- 5:13Speaker 4: Uh Martine Perez went out and went six shuddy against him.
- 5:17Speaker 4: It's just it's a weird man. And they and the
- 5:19Speaker 4: Boo Birds were out in Philadelphia, big right out in Philadelphia.
- 5:23Speaker 1: You could hear it.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Yeah, it was it was loud.
- 5:25Speaker 1: The dlice Garcia is not really hitting yet.
- 5:28Speaker 4: Forgot to add him in there.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going through him like Schwarber Harper.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Shroburn Harper being doing.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Okay, that's it. Though, No, you can't just have to.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I know you can't just have Shworburn Harper. That's the problem.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, So what's the deal, Kratz? Is this team going
- 5:42Speaker 1: to be rescued at some point by a rotation that
- 5:44Speaker 1: looks really nice? And I know Wheeler's DL is down
- 5:46Speaker 1: in the last rehab start, but I think he'll be Okay,
- 5:48Speaker 1: I'll come up, He'll be Wheeler. They did lose Durant too.
- 5:51Speaker 1: I don't want to overlook that part, at least for
- 5:54Speaker 1: a little bit. Durant's on that shelf. Now what do
- 5:56Speaker 1: we think about the Phillies here getting swept by the Braves.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I mean, they're listless, they're like they're they're not even
- 6:04Speaker 3: fun to watch.
- 6:05Speaker 2: Like once Schwarber hit the homer.
- 6:08Speaker 3: I don't even if you watch them, if you watch
- 6:10Speaker 3: them on a day in a day out basis, right now,
- 6:11Speaker 3: you're like, all right, well I saw all the offense
- 6:14Speaker 3: and it ended up bringing true credit the homes for really,
- 6:18Speaker 3: you know, in Sunday Night's game last night, really saying okay,
- 6:21Speaker 3: you know that didn't it's not going to kill me,
- 6:24Speaker 3: and they really like, it's not even I don't want
- 6:28Speaker 3: to say non competitive at bats, it's just yeah, bats
- 6:31Speaker 3: don't seem like they are in a spot where they
- 6:34Speaker 3: think they're going to do damage. Obviously, I am completely
- 6:37Speaker 3: just putting words in their mouth or words from their brain.
- 6:42Speaker 3: But this is a team that has to figure it
- 6:45Speaker 3: out from the lineup standpoint, and it has to happen
- 6:48Speaker 3: quick because you know, everyone whenever a team starts eight
- 6:52Speaker 3: and thirteen or the Mets are seven and fifteen, whatever
- 6:55Speaker 3: they are, then they start like listing the only teams
- 6:59Speaker 3: that have ever made the playoffs. We'll get to the
- 7:02Speaker 3: Mets later, but if you're comparing the two teams the
- 7:06Speaker 3: Phillies and the Mets, Phillies are in a way better
- 7:09Speaker 3: spot because they actually have starting pitching. But somebody asked
- 7:12Speaker 3: me the other day living here. They're like, you think
- 7:14Speaker 3: the Phillies can turn it around once Zach Wheeler comes
- 7:17Speaker 3: back at the end of the week. I was like,
- 7:19Speaker 3: Zach Wheeler can't hit either. This team has to hit.
- 7:22Speaker 3: They have to start having at bats where the other
- 7:24Speaker 3: team goes, well, okay, we'll just get ahead early and
- 7:29Speaker 3: then we'll throw pitches off the plate and get this
- 7:32Speaker 3: team to chase like it really wasn't a it really
- 7:35Speaker 3: Chris Sale great pitcher. Absolutely, Grant Holmes did a great
- 7:39Speaker 3: job of staying in the game. But look, you have
- 7:42Speaker 3: to come up with more competitive team at bats, and
- 7:45Speaker 3: it can't just be Schober hitting a dinger, Harper going.
- 7:49Speaker 2: Two for four.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Support for today's episode comes from Square, and they've got
- 7:55Speaker 1: big news. During squares biannual Releases event, they launched a
- 7:58Speaker 1: wave of innovative new tools to help local businesses run faster, smarter,
- 8:01Speaker 1: and more profitably. Square is awesome around Orlando where AJ
- 8:05Speaker 1: and I live. We go to the farmers' markets around town.
- 8:08Speaker 1: I go to the one near Lake Iola. It's awesome.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I use Square to pay with my phone. I get
- 8:12Speaker 1: the receipt right away.
- 8:13Speaker 4: It's great and so many businesses, not just small businesses. Uses.
- 8:16Speaker 4: So many restaurants and businesses I walk into, not only
- 8:19Speaker 4: in Orlando, but all over the country have these and
- 8:22Speaker 4: you just use your credit card, pops out a receipt, emails.
- 8:26Speaker 2: It right to you.
- 8:26Speaker 4: It's so fast, it's so efficient, it's so hassle free.
- 8:29Speaker 4: It's one of the great things that you have going.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Square launched its most powerful tools yet, designed to give
- 8:34Speaker 1: local businesses a competitive edge without the complexity. If you're
- 8:37Speaker 1: ready to sell smarter, run faster, and stress less, right now,
- 8:40Speaker 1: you can get up to two hundred dollars off Square
- 8:42Speaker 1: hardware at Square dot com slash Go slash foul. That's
- 8:46Speaker 1: Square dot com, slash Go slash foul. Run your business
- 8:49Speaker 1: smarter with Square. Get started today. And they're hitting the
- 8:53Speaker 1: road to take on the Cubs and the Braves.
- 8:56Speaker 4: And they they're going to face more lefties and they
- 8:59Speaker 4: are good against leftand of pitching at all.
- 9:03Speaker 1: It's not good.
- 9:03Speaker 4: They knew it's a weird season. Yeah, it's a it's
- 9:09Speaker 4: a weird I don't know, it's a weird team just
- 9:11Speaker 4: because they're the Phillies and you just expect them to
- 9:13Speaker 4: be really good.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Again.
- 9:15Speaker 4: I still think they are, do you You would think
- 9:17Speaker 4: they yes, and listen exactular help. Absolutely, he can help,
- 9:21Speaker 4: but he only pitches once every five days. And let's
- 9:23Speaker 4: say even if he goes out and throw a shutout,
- 9:25Speaker 4: you still got to score some runs. That's the problem.
- 9:28Speaker 4: They just don't score enough runs consistently. Did have the
- 9:31Speaker 4: worst run differential is and Joe Davis and I had
- 9:35Speaker 4: kind of like a mini fight on the air about
- 9:36Speaker 4: this because actually the White Sox at the time had
- 9:39Speaker 4: the worst well actually wasn't on theirs off the air,
- 9:41Speaker 4: the White Sox at the time had the worst run
- 9:43Speaker 4: differential in baseball. And then the White Sox went ahead,
- 9:46Speaker 4: so they actually took the Phillies had the lead, and
- 9:49Speaker 4: then the White Sox end up losing Saturday, so it
- 9:51Speaker 4: was like.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Oh, the White Sox still have the lead.
- 9:52Speaker 4: And now because the White Sox won again on Sunday
- 9:55Speaker 4: and the Phillies lost, now the Phillies have the worst
- 9:58Speaker 4: run differential and major League Baseball, which is crazy to
- 10:01Speaker 4: think about, I know, because honestly, if you look at
- 10:04Speaker 4: their team just on names, and you go through their
- 10:07Speaker 4: starting rotation and you go, I know, Wheeler hasn't pitched,
- 10:10Speaker 4: but you go Nola Lozardo, Painter, Taiwan Walker, say what
- 10:15Speaker 4: you want, but.
- 10:15Speaker 1: He's had some good years, but he was he's been terrible.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I'm saying, I know. But then go to their I'm
- 10:20Speaker 4: just saying, go off names. Don't look at it. Nola
- 10:22Speaker 4: hasn't been that great this year either. He's like, hasn't
- 10:24Speaker 4: been great either. So then you go to their bullpen,
- 10:27Speaker 4: you go Alvarado, right, you start running through their team,
- 10:29Speaker 4: You're like, damn, this team should be still pretty good
- 10:34Speaker 4: and their pitching has been.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Some of it's I mean, you know, some of it is.
- 10:41Speaker 4: Christopher Sanchez has a one five ninety or as two
- 10:43Speaker 4: and two. By the way, Christopher Sanchez has never beaten
- 10:45Speaker 4: the Braves.
- 10:47Speaker 1: That's gonna ever, He's going to face them a million
- 10:50Speaker 1: times he has already. I know. Yeah, that's surprising.
- 10:53Speaker 2: That's one of the craziest, craziest stats.
- 10:55Speaker 4: When they were like when we were reading about it
- 10:57Speaker 4: and never said Christopher Sanchez has never beaten the I'm.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Like, he's probably he's pitching in some a ton and
- 11:02Speaker 2: never beating him.
- 11:03Speaker 1: The pitching staff for the Phillies entered Sunday ranked second
- 11:07Speaker 1: in walk rate, third and strikeout rate, but twenty seventh
- 11:11Speaker 1: in era. They had batting average on balls and play,
- 11:14Speaker 1: which does factor in some luck there, especially over the
- 11:16Speaker 1: first few weeks of this season, was three point fifty seven,
- 11:19Speaker 1: highest in the league by thirty two points. That will
- 11:22Speaker 1: layble out hopefully.
- 11:24Speaker 4: So when basically if they don't strike you out or
- 11:26Speaker 4: walk you, if someone hits it, it's a pist mussle
- 11:28Speaker 4: somewhere right right now, it pretty it falls in.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So I want to make sure that we give at
- 11:31Speaker 1: least a couple of minutes to the other side. The
- 11:34Speaker 1: Braves looked like a mess before the season started, as
- 11:37Speaker 1: they were missing a ton of their rotation. Enter the
- 11:39Speaker 1: pitching whisperer Jeremy Hefner, then you pitching coach plus Chris
- 11:44Speaker 1: Sale looking great. They've got four really good relievers. Of course,
- 11:47Speaker 1: you have Suarez and Iglesias at the back end. Dylan
- 11:50Speaker 1: Lee is pitching really well so far this year. Who
- 11:54Speaker 1: else in the bullpen, Tyler Kinley pitching really well.
- 11:57Speaker 2: They have a good team.
- 11:58Speaker 4: They they had the same thing the Phillies said they
- 12:00Speaker 4: couldn't hit for a couple of years and they were
- 12:03Speaker 4: decimated by injuries. But injuries too well, yeah, they were
- 12:06Speaker 4: decimated by injuries. But the but the Braves, if they
- 12:09Speaker 4: stay healthy, I mean, if Chris Sale pitches like Chris
- 12:12Speaker 4: Sale's that's as a team, you're like, okay, if he
- 12:15Speaker 4: makes thirty starts, that's twenty wins. If he makes thirty starts, right,
- 12:18Speaker 4: so you're already twenty and ten at least to start.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Ok not saying he's gonna get all those wins, but
- 12:23Speaker 4: they're gonna win twenty of those thirty starts one likely, okay.
- 12:26Speaker 4: And then if Lopez stays healthy, we've seen what he
- 12:29Speaker 4: can do. And then but then they're getting like Elder
- 12:32Speaker 4: and they're getting homes and they're getting some guys. Martin
- 12:34Speaker 4: Perez six shut out. Are you kidding me? I love you,
- 12:36Speaker 4: Martin perezbo wow. And then the back end of their
- 12:39Speaker 4: bullpen is nasty, Lee Suarez Iglesias, Oh, good luck.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Really nasty. Right now. For the Braves, yeah, it's impressive.
- 12:48Speaker 1: They're fifteen and seven after starting off miserably last year
- 12:53Speaker 1: on the West Coast against the Dodgers and the Padres.
- 12:56Speaker 1: This one's for you, AJ two minutes on the White
- 12:58Speaker 1: Sox eight and fourteen. Not pretty, but it's the fastest
- 13:00Speaker 1: they've won eight games since twenty twenty two, and I
- 13:03Speaker 1: mostly want to just spend time talking about Murakami for
- 13:06Speaker 1: a minute. Here. Eight home runs. Do you know how
- 13:07Speaker 1: many hits he has?
- 13:09Speaker 4: I don't know, but I know who picked him for
- 13:10Speaker 4: Rookie of the Year.
- 13:11Speaker 1: I think that was you. Just give me a guess.
- 13:14Speaker 1: And obviously you know I'm asking this for a reason.
- 13:16Speaker 2: I mean, he has like probably fifteen hits exactly. Gosh,
- 13:19Speaker 2: I'm goode.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Eight of them are dangers.
- 13:23Speaker 2: Who cares. I'll tell you what.
- 13:24Speaker 4: He brings a presence to that lineup. I mean, I'm
- 13:26Speaker 4: going to say that he definitely brings the presence to
- 13:29Speaker 4: their lineup that they haven't had. And the biggest thing
- 13:31Speaker 4: he does he didn't really chase a lot, so you
- 13:33Speaker 4: got to get him in the zone. When you get
- 13:34Speaker 4: him his zone, he hits the ball like he did
- 13:35Speaker 4: yesterday over the damn trees and Sacramento.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Oh so he's good.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Yeah, Listen, he fell into their lap.
- 13:43Speaker 1: The league didn't like him.
- 13:45Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. He kind of fell into their lap.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And I know it's early, but I think they were wrong.
- 13:51Speaker 2: You have to take him for what they were wrong.
- 13:53Speaker 1: But he could be a forty homer batcrats with a
- 13:56Speaker 1: nice on base percentage.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Here's here's my ishue you.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I want to see him do it against the high
- 14:02Speaker 3: leverage relievers for a team to pay the big bucks
- 14:06Speaker 3: for him, and I think that's what teams are afraid of.
- 14:08Speaker 3: He's hitting some seven to one dingers, winning or losing,
- 14:13Speaker 3: and to me, can't he catch? Can he catch up
- 14:16Speaker 3: to ninety five plus? I saw him hit a ninety
- 14:19Speaker 3: four on our sinker the other day, the ball he
- 14:22Speaker 3: went over the batter's eye, I get it. Sad that
- 14:24Speaker 3: was That was ninety eight, by the way, just the
- 14:27Speaker 3: one the center. Yes see, I didn't I didn't see
- 14:31Speaker 3: the velocity on that one like so that one was
- 14:33Speaker 3: off ninety eight. So I don't know if ninety four,
- 14:35Speaker 3: but ninety eight work pretty good.
- 14:37Speaker 2: That's good.
- 14:40Speaker 1: Some bangs going on. So the Red Sox and Tigers
- 14:44Speaker 1: are playing right now, and props of the Tigers are
- 14:46Speaker 1: playing really good ball. They won eight of nine. I
- 14:48Speaker 1: believe it is entering today. Did you see that Sonny
- 14:52Speaker 1: Gray left the game?
- 14:53Speaker 2: Pretty I know what did he leave with?
- 14:54Speaker 4: Because I was watching the game and he made like
- 14:56Speaker 4: a weird foot, knee, ankle, calf, ham string, the lower
- 15:01Speaker 4: body injury thing.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I don't believe it's hamstring. He exited because of right
- 15:06Speaker 1: hamstring tightness. According to the Red Sox, okay, eight.
- 15:11Speaker 4: No, that's not good for them. Probably with the Red
- 15:14Speaker 4: Sox there's pitching has been okay. They just can't hit.
- 15:16Speaker 1: They have like no power.
- 15:17Speaker 2: I know.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I mean Jared bren has one homer.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they don't have a lot there if they're not
- 15:23Speaker 1: last their bottom three for sure. I looked at the weekend.
- 15:26Speaker 4: Someone had nine homers I saw the other day on
- 15:29Speaker 4: the Red Sox. No on a whole team, it wasn't
- 15:31Speaker 4: that long ago.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Well, I mean kamys A, Jordan Walker.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Or judge it's thirteen.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Oh they were the ones I did a Giants game.
- 15:40Speaker 4: They had nine homers. Oh, you're saying the team had
- 15:42Speaker 4: a team had nine homers and we were twenty games
- 15:45Speaker 4: in red for thirteen homers. Thirteen homers and so how
- 15:51Speaker 4: me does Wilson Wolfson sures has like four or five
- 15:53Speaker 4: of them, doesn't he?
- 15:55Speaker 3: And they only have thirty eight doubles. There's teams I'm trying,
- 16:00Speaker 3: I think the highest the astros of fifty three doubles.
- 16:04Speaker 3: The Red Sox are last in Homers and I guess
- 16:10Speaker 3: middle of the road for doubles, but no extra bass.
- 16:13Speaker 1: I'm Judge and Ben Rice have seventeen Homers.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Jordon Albrass ten.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Is it good? People? Life is expensive, so you
- 16:26Speaker 1: should start looking at things that are unnecessarily expensive, like
- 16:30Speaker 1: your phone bill, and say, is there a better option?
- 16:33Speaker 4: Min Mobile is a better option than if you have
- 16:35Speaker 4: other companies, especially when you have kids like me and
- 16:37Speaker 4: you have everybody and their brother on your family plan.
- 16:41Speaker 4: Min Mobile give you a cheaper option with the same coverage.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Yes, and some wireless bills are crazy with the bogus

- 17:23Speaker 1: Mobile for details. I' go on our time. This show
- 17:30Speaker 1: is mostly hosted by two former catchers, so this topic
- 17:34Speaker 1: is perfect for us and we are going to dive
- 17:36Speaker 1: into it, even if it's not a big deal. Let's
- 17:38Speaker 1: find out. Salvador Perez was given a day off and
- 17:43Speaker 1: he didn't like the way that it was quoted. So
- 17:47Speaker 1: the other day Matt Quatarro Royales manager said, quote, I'm
- 17:50Speaker 1: giving him a day off. Quote just looking at the
- 17:53Speaker 1: way things have gone. He's played in every game, day
- 17:56Speaker 1: game after night game. Carter Jensen was going to catch
- 17:59Speaker 1: today and he's been struggling a little bit. Just trying
- 18:02Speaker 1: to give him a little mental breather. Salvi goes on Twitter, right,
- 18:10Speaker 1: I don't need a mental breather. Next day, Salvi spoke
- 18:15Speaker 1: to the media, said he's in a great mood. Talk
- 18:18Speaker 1: to Q dealing with a sore hip. Expects the DH
- 18:21Speaker 1: more in the next few days. Didn't feel like he
- 18:23Speaker 1: needed a quote, mental breather, but understands he can't play
- 18:25Speaker 1: one sixty two and he's ready to move forward. Quatrarro
- 18:28Speaker 1: said the mental breather was from his perspective, telling him
- 18:31Speaker 1: the night before he wasn't playing, so he can take
- 18:34Speaker 1: some of his take this off his plate of preparing
- 18:37Speaker 1: a starting pitcher in the game plan and the whole deal.
- 18:40Speaker 1: And I heard Q yeah a couple different times. It's
- 18:42Speaker 1: Joe Goldberg with the tweet. But Q basically AJ said,
- 18:46Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say as much now because I've just
- 18:48Speaker 1: given him a day off, so don't take the mental breathers.
- 18:51Speaker 1: Not mentally he needed a break.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I don't really have a problem with what Quatara did.
- 18:59Speaker 4: I'm like he told him he was not, like he
- 19:01Speaker 4: showed up to the ballpark and didn't he knew the
- 19:03Speaker 4: night before. Okay, and listen, we love Salva. I love
- 19:07Speaker 4: Salver Press Krats love Salva Repress. He plays every day,
- 19:09Speaker 4: he wants to play every day. He's also not hitting
- 19:12Speaker 4: very well and the Royals aren't playing really well, right
- 19:16Speaker 4: and Carter Jensen say what you want has actually been
- 19:18Speaker 4: hitting the ball decently for a young guy.
- 19:20Speaker 2: So and since he since he missed his alarm, he's.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Been raking, by the way, so he might have the
- 19:27Speaker 4: old thing is let in more or knock in more
- 19:29Speaker 4: than he let in. He's knocking in more than his
- 19:30Speaker 4: alarm times missed or whatever. It was a wake up call, literally,
- 19:35Speaker 4: So I don't I don't understand why what this is
- 19:40Speaker 4: such a big deal of.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Is not hitting. And I get it.
- 19:47Speaker 4: He's a prideful guy in this and that. But Qatar
- 19:50Speaker 4: did tell him the night before. It's not this is
- 19:52Speaker 4: what I used to get mad about. If you don't
- 19:53Speaker 4: tell me the night before, I prepare like it the
- 19:56Speaker 4: game is. I'm playing in the game. But if you
- 19:59Speaker 4: tell me the night before four or in today's game,
- 20:02Speaker 4: they tell you like a week in advance. Sometimes, like
- 20:04Speaker 4: I remember Joey Korra and I was again, they used
- 20:06Speaker 4: to give me the whole week. And this was before
- 20:08Speaker 4: this is a popular thing. Joey would sit down and say,
- 20:10Speaker 4: you're gonna play this this this this lefty day game,
- 20:13Speaker 4: night game, boom boom. You're gonna have Friday off or
- 20:16Speaker 4: Saturday off or Tuesday off or whatever it was.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I was like, okay, thank you. But he did tell
- 20:21Speaker 2: him the night before.
- 20:22Speaker 4: It wasn't like he got to the ballpark and there
- 20:24Speaker 4: was no he had no idea here and he knew
- 20:26Speaker 4: so I don't know why they all the hubbub other
- 20:28Speaker 4: than Salvy's a prideful guy, wants to play.
- 20:29Speaker 1: He doesn't like the term mental breather.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Oh okay, well then who cares?
- 20:35Speaker 4: Would you just say, hey, Salvy, you're getting the day
- 20:37Speaker 4: off tomorrow because you stink like I mean, I don't
- 20:41Speaker 4: know what else he was trying to be politically correct
- 20:43Speaker 4: with the meeting. He actually was trying to do the
- 20:45Speaker 4: right thing.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I feel like he.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Was a great dude.
- 20:47Speaker 2: He is and he would never do anything.
- 20:49Speaker 4: Trust me, if you ever talked to Macuaturo, the last
- 20:51Speaker 4: thing on earth he wants to do is offend Salvador Perez,
- 20:54Speaker 4: and he trusts me. He I don't say worships the guy,
- 20:57Speaker 4: but he bends over backwards to make him happy and
- 21:00Speaker 4: let him know he's the man on this team as
- 21:03Speaker 4: he should.
- 21:04Speaker 1: And krats before you comment, Yeah, Carter Jensen and you
- 21:07Speaker 1: can obviously, one can date and one can catch a
- 21:09Speaker 1: lot of times. But Carter Jensen is a one thirty
- 21:12Speaker 1: ops plus so far this season with five homers and
- 21:16Speaker 1: twelve RBIs and fifty nine at bats. Salvi get I
- 21:20Speaker 1: get it, it's early. You got to throw that in
- 21:22Speaker 1: every five seconds right now. But twelve for seventy nine,
- 21:24Speaker 1: one fIF two, batting, two hundred on base two ninety one,
- 21:28Speaker 1: slugging forty ops plus like he has done, and he's
- 21:31Speaker 1: got a few homers. But that's it for the whole year.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And I'm not even saying that's the reasoning. But this
- 21:38Speaker 1: could become a thing eventually too, Like h catches up to.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Everyone at some point, it will become a thing.
- 21:44Speaker 1: It's going to be a thing because he's locked up
- 21:46Speaker 1: for a while still, isn't he. And again I'm not
- 21:48Speaker 1: saying like, oh, he's cooked or whatever, but like eventually
- 21:50Speaker 1: get older, like you do, want to mix in a
- 21:52Speaker 1: few more days off and make sure that he's playing
- 21:54Speaker 1: at his prime because he loves to freaking play, But
- 21:56Speaker 1: that doesn't mean that he is going to be at
- 21:58Speaker 1: his best if he's playing every single day.
- 22:00Speaker 3: Crats right, And that's the been the mo for Okay,
- 22:05Speaker 3: he's got one team option. Salvey's got a team option
- 22:08Speaker 3: after this year.
- 22:10Speaker 1: That's it.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Yeah, that's it. That's that's what my stats say. But
- 22:15Speaker 3: while I'm talking about it, you can confirm it. But
- 22:18Speaker 3: this is why Carter Jensen's This is why Carter Jensen
- 22:21Speaker 3: is on the roster right now. I had I had
- 22:24Speaker 3: kind of an issue when Dalton Rushing got called up
- 22:27Speaker 3: to the big leagues as a like future starting catcher
- 22:30Speaker 3: and then sat behind Will Smith. He's killing it right now,
- 22:34Speaker 3: but I still think there's some It's tough to be
- 22:36Speaker 3: a bench guy. Carter Jensen's yes, he is Salvador Perez's backup,
- 22:42Speaker 3: but not for long. And I'm not saying it's in
- 22:44Speaker 3: the next month. I'm saying they know where the future is,
- 22:48Speaker 3: and the future is in Carter Jensen. And if he
- 22:52Speaker 3: continues to hit like he does, and Salvey continues to
- 22:54Speaker 3: hit like he does, this team has spent some money.
- 22:57Speaker 2: It's about winning. Is it gonna happen?
- 23:00Speaker 1: No.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I think Salve's gonna end up turning it around because
- 23:04Speaker 3: that's what he does. But at some point Aj said
- 23:07Speaker 3: it father time catches up to you and they need
- 23:11Speaker 3: to have their next catcher, and they feel like they
- 23:15Speaker 3: have their next catcher in Carter Jensen and the fact
- 23:17Speaker 3: that they have a lefty, left handed hitting, athletic young
- 23:21Speaker 3: catcher that hits with power, and the game ends for
- 23:27Speaker 3: everybody at some point. And when that happens for Salvey,
- 23:31Speaker 3: to me, I think Salvey probably plays another five years
- 23:33Speaker 3: is it with the Royals. I don't see how he
- 23:35Speaker 3: plays with anybody else but the Royals. But it will
- 23:37Speaker 3: be in a different role because this guy will be
- 23:40Speaker 3: the starting catcher, and I think that's why they put
- 23:42Speaker 3: him on the roster. But the whole mental break to me,
- 23:47Speaker 3: salvad or not even to me. I know Salvi is
- 23:50Speaker 3: a very prideful guy and he doesn't want it to
- 23:52Speaker 3: look like well, he's exhausted and he's thinking about other things.
- 23:56Speaker 3: He is so focused on his team winning. He's so
- 23:59Speaker 3: focused on doing the best he can when he's out there,
- 24:02Speaker 3: and he believes that even seventy percent of Salve is
- 24:07Speaker 3: better than one hundred percent of anybody else. And I
- 24:09Speaker 3: think it's going to be a tough transition for him
- 24:13Speaker 3: to not play as much. But from twenty fourteen till
- 24:19Speaker 3: like two thousand and twenty three, he was playing every
- 24:23Speaker 3: single day and probably too much, to the point where
- 24:26Speaker 3: his second half numbers were terrible compared to his first
- 24:30Speaker 3: half numbers, which made him make nine, I think nine
- 24:33Speaker 3: or ten different All Star teams. If he were to
- 24:36Speaker 3: be able to get those mental breaks where hey, you know,
- 24:40Speaker 3: what you're coming to the park. You're not playing. You're
- 24:44Speaker 3: not playing first, you're not dhing, none of that. You
- 24:47Speaker 3: are not playing. There is a reprieve to that, and
- 24:50Speaker 3: AJ can speak to it more because AJ is the
- 24:52Speaker 3: only one on the show that played a lot. But
- 24:55Speaker 3: there's a mental reprieve to the fact that that day
- 24:58Speaker 3: and the night before or you know, you are not
- 25:01Speaker 3: playing one hundred percent, one hundred percent.
- 25:06Speaker 1: You know what also hurts. But when the team starts
- 25:09Speaker 1: out seven and eight, fine, whatever, and now they're seven
- 25:11Speaker 1: and fifteen.
- 25:12Speaker 2: True.
- 25:12Speaker 4: True, they're looking for any spark, and especially when the
- 25:14Speaker 4: young guy is hitting. And I don't mean that again
- 25:18Speaker 4: as a knock on Saliver pres It just is what
- 25:20Speaker 4: it is. They're looking for any sort of offense. But listen,
- 25:23Speaker 4: there is a huge deal I'm telling you for guys
- 25:26Speaker 4: that play every day, and especially catchers, at least for me.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I can't speak for most guys knowing when you're playing
- 25:31Speaker 4: and when you're not. And I say this all the time.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I have a problem with, oh, are you playing tomorrow?
- 25:36Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Well, the managers should already tell you. They already know
- 25:39Speaker 4: the matchups, they already know what they're gonna do. And
- 25:41Speaker 4: there are also days though. If let's say you get
- 25:43Speaker 4: four hits and then you don't play the next day, you're.
- 25:45Speaker 2: Like, well, I should have played them.
- 25:46Speaker 4: I'm hot, but it was already but it was already
- 25:48Speaker 4: kind of planned for you not to take the date,
- 25:50Speaker 4: not to not to play, so you're like, dang, I
- 25:53Speaker 4: shouldn't have got four hits anything.
- 25:55Speaker 1: He also said he has a sore hit. Let's not
- 25:57Speaker 1: overlook that one.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Maybe, but it would have been better for would have
- 26:00Speaker 4: been like a game of day because he has a
- 26:01Speaker 4: sore hip, and Tavi will be like, why'd you tell
- 26:03Speaker 4: him that?
- 26:04Speaker 1: That's you can't win on this one.
- 26:06Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. That's why it was weird. It
- 26:08Speaker 4: was weird to because Salvey doesn't seem like this kind
- 26:10Speaker 4: of guy crotch. You know him way better than he
- 26:11Speaker 4: would go to Twitter and say I don't need a
- 26:13Speaker 4: metal break like what.
- 26:14Speaker 1: But but he will fight you. He's always been like
- 26:16Speaker 1: this cratch. He will fight you to play every single day. Right.
- 26:22Speaker 3: I can tell you so many stories of Pedri Gaffall
- 26:25Speaker 3: going to him and being like, Salve, you got the
- 26:27Speaker 3: day off, and Salvi going I don't think so I
- 26:30Speaker 3: am going to be out there tomorrow. Well, it's a
- 26:32Speaker 3: day game. We're facing animal Sanchez. You know we've you know,
- 26:37Speaker 3: you need a day You've played every game to start.
- 26:39Speaker 2: I don't care I playing. I playing tomorrow.
- 26:42Speaker 3: To the same point, we lost three games in a
- 26:46Speaker 3: row the season that we won the World Series, and
- 26:50Speaker 3: he was cat he was gassed at a certain point,
- 26:53Speaker 3: and they already told him he had the day off
- 26:55Speaker 3: on Sunday, and he got and they come to him.
- 26:58Speaker 3: Same dude comes to him and goes, Salvi, hey, we
- 27:01Speaker 3: need you to play tomorrow. He's like, no chance, Bobby,
- 27:05Speaker 3: I know playing. He said, tell crappy, he playing. I'm tired,
- 27:09Speaker 3: And then they kept coming to him. He's like, no,
- 27:11Speaker 3: I need day off. That's what I have to have.
- 27:14Speaker 3: He ended up playing.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Tell crappy, crappy, crappy. Last thing here, just to show
- 27:24Speaker 1: how one of the best players in the sport is
- 27:26Speaker 1: barely a crossing home. Bobby with Junior has four runs
- 27:29Speaker 1: scored this season.
- 27:30Speaker 4: Which is better because at one time he had been
- 27:32Speaker 4: on base thirty times and he scored once. So at
- 27:34Speaker 4: least they're driving him in a little bit better.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It's not that much better. Right ready for this. Three
- 27:38Speaker 1: of those runs scored were in one game.
- 27:40Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. But that's better than what it
- 27:42Speaker 4: was because at one time he was on base thirty
- 27:43Speaker 4: times and only scored once. At least now he's up
- 27:45Speaker 4: to four, so he scored three more times.
- 27:47Speaker 1: They've played twenty two games. True, he has scored runs
- 27:51Speaker 1: in two of them.
- 27:52Speaker 4: He's been on base a lot.
- 27:53Speaker 1: He's been on base a lot.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Yeah, but here's the throw.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Vinnie's not hitting. Yep, Salvy's not hitting mm hm, kagal
- 27:58Speaker 4: Own is doing better, but it's that great. I mean,
- 28:01Speaker 4: no one's hitting. Garcia is ahead of Bobby, so he
- 28:03Speaker 4: can't drive them in. No one's really hitting. So it's
- 28:07Speaker 4: like the it's the whole Phillies thing, like, yeah, great,
- 28:09Speaker 4: Bobby's doing great, but if there just has to be
- 28:11Speaker 4: more than one or two.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Guys in your lineup to Yeah, Garcia has been okay,
- 28:15Speaker 1: Carter Jensen's hitting, there's.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Just not Carter Jensen is down farther enough to wear
- 28:18Speaker 4: Bobby's on. He normally doesn't hit when Bobby's on right.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Not for long.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Ye, it's just not working right, not for long. They're
- 28:24Speaker 1: gonna have to switch things up. I know it's early,
- 28:26Speaker 1: but you can't get in too big of a rut.
- 28:28Speaker 1: So that's the story. Hey, shout out to the number

- 29:48Speaker 1: sea Geek. Hey, we're back. A little news on the Twins,
- 29:52Speaker 1: who had a rough weekend against the Reds. Their rotation
- 29:55Speaker 1: takes another hit. Mick Abel, who had been pitching well,
- 29:58Speaker 1: has right elbow inflammation. That's a tough one. They got
- 30:01Speaker 1: swept by the Reds, and yeah, Joe, Ryan, TODs, Bradley,
- 30:04Speaker 1: and Bailey Ober pitching three earned runs and eighteen and
- 30:07Speaker 1: a third combined one four seventy ra. But the bullpen
- 30:11Speaker 1: and the defense let them down. The lineup wasn't doing
- 30:13Speaker 1: their thing, which is kind of been expected. That's what
- 30:15Speaker 1: puts them back.
- 30:16Speaker 4: To the what's the record?
- 30:18Speaker 1: Eleven and eleven?
- 30:19Speaker 4: They were like eleven and seven not long ago, I.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Believe, right, Yeah, it might have been. Is it a
- 30:26Speaker 1: four game loser? I mean, obviously they got.
- 30:27Speaker 4: I just remember we had a there was a Dan
- 30:29Speaker 4: Hayes on and he was talking about how the surprise.
- 30:31Speaker 2: They are and now they're so that's my thing.
- 30:33Speaker 4: I'm like, but I'm just saying, I'm just selling you.
- 30:36Speaker 1: They're also, I mean, they're in potential not a great division, right,
- 30:41Speaker 1: at least a mid division. Yeah, Tigers are playing really well. Yeah,
- 30:46Speaker 1: those two teams are playing. It's right now. That's what
- 30:49Speaker 1: looks like the separation here. I think the Guardians and
- 30:51Speaker 1: Tigers look good. The Royals look awful. I think they'll
- 30:54Speaker 1: get a little better. The White Sox don't look like
- 30:55Speaker 1: they're much different from last year in terms of production.
- 30:57Speaker 1: And then the Twins, to me, are they're not going to.
- 31:01Speaker 4: Be Somebody picked the Royals and make the playoffs?
- 31:05Speaker 2: Was it you? What? What? Me?
- 31:07Speaker 1: It was?
- 31:07Speaker 2: Crats?
- 31:09Speaker 1: I mean, I think the Royals are better than the
- 31:11Speaker 1: White Tux and the Twins.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Yeah, doesn't mean that's true.
- 31:18Speaker 1: And the Reds looked damn good. They're winning in a
- 31:20Speaker 1: number of ways. They're winning one run games, Crats, And
- 31:23Speaker 1: they're missing some dudes, they're missing some homers. They're their
- 31:30Speaker 1: outfield doesn't hit freedom. I know had had a good
- 31:33Speaker 1: game but their outfield is not given him much. But
- 31:36Speaker 1: they're infield man, I mean Sal Stewart. Obviously, Ellie is
- 31:40Speaker 1: a good player that's needed help. That's a good infield.
- 31:43Speaker 3: The queens around I thought, I thought Ellie broke his
- 31:46Speaker 3: arm yesterday. Whatever he did into home on the stop
- 31:50Speaker 3: and go play that was that was not it. But
- 31:53Speaker 3: hopefully it's fine.
- 31:55Speaker 1: Right, did they say anything. I didn't see anything significant
- 31:58Speaker 1: shoulder something, yeah, but nothing like that they were worried about.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Okay, I mean he played all year.
- 32:05Speaker 3: He played all year last year with that quad injury
- 32:07Speaker 3: or half the year and had one homer in two
- 32:09Speaker 3: and nind bats. You just you just don't want to
- 32:10Speaker 3: see a play like that where it was avoidable and
- 32:13Speaker 3: it's like, don't do that.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 32:17Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 32:20Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 32:21Speaker 1: That's what he said. Hey, the Rockies are playing some
- 32:27Speaker 1: good ball against the Dodgers right now. And after they
- 32:31Speaker 1: won Saturday's game, talking about Colorado, Dalton Rushing had some
- 32:35Speaker 1: comments and he used a word that started to circulate
- 32:41Speaker 1: around the Rockies clubhouse and they responded. So let's start
- 32:44Speaker 1: with Rushing, the hot shot Dodgers' catchers off the great start,
- 32:48Speaker 1: great dude, and what he pondered after the Dodgers lost
- 32:52Speaker 1: to the Rocky Saturday.
- 32:55Speaker 5: I think it could have been a little bit of
- 32:56Speaker 5: both sides. I think they had a good game plan
- 32:59Speaker 5: as an opposed team. Uh, and maybe I pitched into
- 33:03Speaker 5: their game plan. As far as calling pitches, I'm not
- 33:06Speaker 5: one hundred percent sure. I just I think it's odd
- 33:09Speaker 5: some of those hitters that do what they do. They
- 33:11Speaker 5: go up there and they were only the first pitch
- 33:13Speaker 5: that was thrown. So it's a little fishy.
- 33:17Speaker 2: But what's fishy?
- 33:20Speaker 4: Dude? If I'm facing Roki Sazaki, guess what, I don't
- 33:23Speaker 4: want to wait around for a split.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Wait, I'm gonna take this season.
- 33:27Speaker 4: I'm going up their first pitch saying, dang, if he
- 33:29Speaker 4: throws me a heater, I'm jumping.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I will take this even further for you. The Colorado
- 33:35Speaker 1: Rockies probably.
- 33:36Speaker 4: Swinging more first pitches anyway, because they probably have the
- 33:38Speaker 4: youngest team.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Are first pitch swing percentage they are I believe first. Yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 1: they have to second in swing percentage over the rock.
- 33:47Speaker 2: They swing, they're young, don't walk.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Yes, that is the Rockies for you and Dave Roberts
- 33:53Speaker 1: The next day, before Sunday's game, which they lost. The
- 33:55Speaker 1: Dodgers lost to the Rockies, he said, like, not bad
- 33:59Speaker 1: breaker is not executed?
- 34:00Speaker 4: What Colorado too. Let's not forget it's also Colorado. The
- 34:04Speaker 4: ball doesn't exactly move the same ways?
- 34:06Speaker 1: Correct? And that was after just to clarify, because again,
- 34:09Speaker 1: like every Dodger fan's gonna nitpick every single thing Roki
- 34:13Speaker 1: was Sunday. This was after Saturday, Yes, just to make
- 34:16Speaker 1: sure that. I'm just saying, like, we're watching, you know,
- 34:18Speaker 1: I don't want to hear that, Oh you didn't like
- 34:19Speaker 1: we're watching. We are getting through the order here of operations.
- 34:22Speaker 1: But point is Rushing said something. I mean, I don't
- 34:27Speaker 1: want him to hold back. So does Dave Roberts have
- 34:30Speaker 1: to say anything to Rushing or he just like lets
- 34:32Speaker 1: him say his piece. And then Robert says, no, I disagree.
- 34:35Speaker 1: I think we weren't executing our pitches.
- 34:39Speaker 2: I would have known what he means. What does he mean?
- 34:43Speaker 2: What do you mean by it's fishy? Like?
- 34:45Speaker 3: Is he saying that it's not a good approach to
- 34:47Speaker 3: go out and swing at the first pitch.
- 34:49Speaker 2: Is he's saying they knew what was coming? And that's
- 34:53Speaker 2: what's fishy. Do I love the trolling?
- 34:56Speaker 3: I am not a I am not a trolling fan
- 34:58Speaker 3: in baseball. I don't like when, like high school teams
- 35:01Speaker 3: troll each other. It just seems like a waste. But
- 35:04Speaker 3: the Rockies, I think on every double, at least every
- 35:08Speaker 3: double they'd get to, they'd get to second base and
- 35:11Speaker 3: they'd give the old like they're fishing. Something was fishy.
- 35:16Speaker 3: But what does he mean by fishy?
- 35:17Speaker 2: I need to know.
- 35:18Speaker 3: Put that in your note, Scott when Dalton Russian comes
- 35:21Speaker 3: back on the show at some point, I want to
- 35:23Speaker 3: know what he meant by fishy.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Rockies are three and ten on the road, six and
- 35:28Speaker 1: three at home, and you know it's fishy. They're always
- 35:30Speaker 1: like that. So how do you figure out the Rocky
- 35:33Speaker 1: is playing better on the road. It's fishy.
- 35:35Speaker 4: That's that's been the question for since nineteen ninety five.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they can't figure out the environment. Can we show
- 35:41Speaker 1: that tweet too? From Patrick Lyon to who's out there
- 35:43Speaker 1: in Denver? There it is? So that's the you know,
- 35:46Speaker 1: how teams trying and find their thing.
- 35:47Speaker 2: That's their thing.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Now they don't have a necklace with a big fish
- 35:50Speaker 4: on it like a big greenboat trout or something.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Oh, they should do that in the dugout and out
- 35:54Speaker 1: in the field after they get a big knock they
- 35:57Speaker 1: reel it in fishy behavior Colorado. It's all in good fun.
- 36:01Speaker 1: I'm glad Dalton said it.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Yeah, But the thing is is he it was an
- 36:06Speaker 4: accusatory of the other team of doing something.
- 36:08Speaker 2: What were they doing?
- 36:10Speaker 4: They were swinging at the first pitch because I don't
- 36:14Speaker 4: know who pitched on Saturday for the Dodgers, and she
- 36:17Speaker 4: was Maybe their game plan was the first strike he throws,
- 36:21Speaker 4: or he has a high first strike percent.
- 36:22Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 36:22Speaker 4: I didn't look at it, but and he throws a
- 36:24Speaker 4: lot of first fit strikes. Let's jump them if I
- 36:27Speaker 4: know this. On Sunday when I'm facing Sazaki, I'm trying
- 36:29Speaker 4: to get a first pitch. I ain't wait for the split.
- 36:31Speaker 1: They also scored four runs the Rockies, Like, it's not
- 36:34Speaker 1: like they got blitzed on Saturday. They won four.
- 36:38Speaker 4: Three and they and the Dodgers had like all kinds
- 36:39Speaker 4: of runners on base in the night.
- 36:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say, you know what's fishy. The Dodgers
- 36:43Speaker 1: are one of the best looking rosters I've ever seen,
- 36:45Speaker 1: and they lost Saturday's game by scoring three runs in Denver,
- 36:50Speaker 1: and they probably were over under to score runs that day.
- 36:52Speaker 1: It was probably what like five and a half or
- 36:54Speaker 1: something like that for the Dodgers.
- 36:57Speaker 4: Yeah, do you see my bet later there's there's an
- 37:01Speaker 4: over under my feature upcoming.
- 37:03Speaker 1: But whatever, it's fun. I mean, I know it's not harmless,
- 37:06Speaker 1: Like it's fun for me as a fan. On the
- 37:08Speaker 1: other side, I get at Kratz. If you are the Rockies,
- 37:12Speaker 1: You're like, whoa, we are not doing anything wrong.
- 37:15Speaker 3: We swing at everything, or or say, with your test,
- 37:19Speaker 3: what did what did you mean? I've said it like
- 37:22Speaker 3: six times. What did you mean? Major League Baseball investigating
- 37:25Speaker 3: the Rockies? Now, like, what what did he mean by fishy?
- 37:30Speaker 2: I want to know. I gotta know.
- 37:33Speaker 1: One more quote from this one and then we'll move
- 37:35Speaker 1: to another. Dave Roberts pregame with the media before Sunday's game,
- 37:41Speaker 1: was asked about Roki Sasaki. They said, what do you
- 37:46Speaker 1: expect from Roki today? And he goes, I don't, I don't.
- 37:53Speaker 1: I don't like saying they were saying, what do you
- 37:55Speaker 1: expect from him? Like like and he's like, I don't,
- 37:58Speaker 1: like really sure, I don't know, Poppy, he's got a
- 38:04Speaker 1: six six plus e RA.
- 38:06Speaker 3: So what does AJ talk about when he talks about
- 38:12Speaker 3: the best managers in those pregame meetings, the guys that
- 38:16Speaker 3: are honest, the guys that to me, the guys that
- 38:19Speaker 3: are honest out there, they're always telling you like it
- 38:24Speaker 3: is from what they see now. They're not just gonna
- 38:26Speaker 3: throw their players under the busan maybe some of them
- 38:29Speaker 3: do and tell AJ not to say anything, but like,
- 38:33Speaker 3: it's the honesty. And so I appreciate Dave Roberts saying
- 38:37Speaker 3: what everybody else sees, but also like that this is
- 38:42Speaker 3: this is another reason of how good the Dodgers are.
- 38:45Speaker 3: They can let him figure this out in the big leagues.
- 38:47Speaker 3: They can let him find his third pitch, as everybody says,
- 38:52Speaker 3: as everybody said in spring training he needed a third pitch.
- 38:55Speaker 3: Normally you have to go to the bushes. You got
- 38:57Speaker 3: to go triple A to say, okay, you got to
- 39:00Speaker 3: throw your cut or more, your slider more, whatever that
- 39:03Speaker 3: third pitch is gonna be. They can let him figure
- 39:06Speaker 3: it out in the big leagues. It's kind of crazy
- 39:08Speaker 3: that a team is that good to let somebody essentially
- 39:11Speaker 3: rehab in the big leagues. But that's what they're going
- 39:14Speaker 3: for right now. Kudos to Dave Roberts for being honest.
- 39:20Speaker 1: Right, that's about as far as you can go if
- 39:24Speaker 1: you're the manager.
- 39:25Speaker 2: Yeah, what's he gonna say?
- 39:26Speaker 1: I want him in the minors because he has a
- 39:28Speaker 1: six YRA and I don't think he's ready to be
- 39:30Speaker 1: a starter in the big leagues right now.
- 39:32Speaker 4: He can't say that, I know, because he's on the
- 39:34Speaker 4: team and he's a starter, so he can't say that.
- 39:38Speaker 1: Yeah, you have to play the process out. Be fortunate.
- 39:40Speaker 1: They have a great team that can allow a lot
- 39:42Speaker 1: more leeway than almost any other team, and there is
- 39:46Speaker 1: still a threshold right after I don't know, another two
- 39:49Speaker 1: three weeks, If the era still six from your starter
- 39:52Speaker 1: and you're still seeing the same lack of command and
- 39:55Speaker 1: lack of developing the pitch, then it's an easier case
- 39:58Speaker 1: to make with his camp and say, hey, what's what's
- 40:00Speaker 1: next here?
- 40:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but they need three, they need six starters.
- 40:03Speaker 3: They need five starters because show Hay is only gonna
- 40:07Speaker 3: go on a certain amount of rest. So until that happens,
- 40:11Speaker 3: until Snell comes back, until they say, I mean Robleski
- 40:15Speaker 3: essentially is now starter again, which he should have been before.
- 40:18Speaker 3: But like, until that stuff plays itself out, they need
- 40:23Speaker 3: a six starter unless they're gonna go Opener. But I
- 40:26Speaker 3: guess it doesn't really matter because they have the show
- 40:28Speaker 3: Hay rules, so they get the extra they get the
- 40:30Speaker 3: extra pitcher anyway, but they kind of need him right
- 40:33Speaker 3: now until everybody gets one hundred percent.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna go through the whole
- 40:38Speaker 1: minor league situation for them, but I'm sure there's somebody
- 40:41Speaker 1: else that can come up and start if rookie has
- 40:43Speaker 1: a sixty RA in May.
- 40:46Speaker 4: If he has a sixty RA May, he won't be
- 40:48Speaker 4: there either be on the IL or he'll be in Triple.
- 40:50Speaker 1: A or in the bullpen or in the bullpen where he's.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Looking to go. I wasn't. I wasn't, okay.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think he wants to do that,
- 40:58Speaker 1: but I mean, Dan, I don't think they want to
- 41:00Speaker 1: be nice flashes last October.
- 41:02Speaker 4: He's safe, yeah, but their bullpen's too good right now
- 41:04Speaker 4: with the guys.
- 41:05Speaker 2: They have pits, and they don't want to do that. Multimately,
- 41:08Speaker 2: they don't want it. They don't want that.
- 41:09Speaker 1: You don't want that.
- 41:10Speaker 4: They'd rather send him a triple and let him work
- 41:11Speaker 4: on it.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I know, but what if he says I'm not going
- 41:14Speaker 1: to triple?
- 41:15Speaker 4: You know what, they say, Nope, we don't care.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a little trickier than that.
- 41:20Speaker 4: Why, guys, he's not our of eligible. He's a zero
- 41:24Speaker 4: to five guy. He has options. There's nothing more to
- 41:26Speaker 4: it than that.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Because when you mistink when you recruit players.
- 41:30Speaker 4: Okay, so he's been great, Yamamoto has been great.
- 41:33Speaker 1: I know, but that's different. You're recruiting players. Wait, why
- 41:36Speaker 1: why is that different? Yeah, because when you're recruiting Roki Sazaki,
- 41:40Speaker 1: and the money was pretty much the same to go
- 41:42Speaker 1: to any team. Part of the lore with the Dodgers
- 41:45Speaker 1: was not just them being the Dodgers and having all
- 41:47Speaker 1: these guys. It's like, I'm going to get a chance
- 41:49Speaker 1: to succeed in the majors because the thing that many
- 41:52Speaker 1: other teams can say against it is well, that's a
- 41:55Speaker 1: playoff team and you're not going to be able to
- 41:57Speaker 1: kick it in the rotation and do that for a while.
- 41:59Speaker 1: And they're actually letting giving him.
- 42:00Speaker 4: No player thinks like that, though crowds. No player goes
- 42:02Speaker 4: to that. He picked La because he thought that was
- 42:04Speaker 4: the best place for him and where he do well.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Rookies Iszoki did not go into this saying no player
- 42:10Speaker 4: now twenty five years from now, one hundred years from now,
- 42:13Speaker 4: two days from now will come over to the US
- 42:16Speaker 4: or sign up a contract and say, man, if I
- 42:18Speaker 4: go to crap, they're gonna send me down.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Because you never think you're gonna go to crap.
- 42:23Speaker 6: I know, so that the recruiting pitch is the same, Hey,
- 42:27Speaker 6: we'll give you every opportunity because you know what, if
- 42:29Speaker 6: he was in another team, his ass already might be
- 42:32Speaker 6: in Triple A because they would say, hey, we can't.
- 42:35Speaker 1: We can't afford we use this.
- 42:38Speaker 4: The Dodgers are least saying, hey, you're still starting every
- 42:41Speaker 4: six day, seventh day, whatever it is.
- 42:43Speaker 1: But you know, college recruiting, So if I'm the Yankees
- 42:45Speaker 1: and I'm recruiting the next Hessan Kim or rok college,
- 42:49Speaker 1: I'm gonna say, hey, like, and let's say it doesn't
- 42:51Speaker 1: work out well for rookie, and like rokies in the minors,
- 42:54Speaker 1: Kim has been great when he's up in the bigs,
- 42:55Speaker 1: but then like let's say Mookie's back and he's not
- 42:57Speaker 1: playing again, and you're like and this guy came and
- 42:59Speaker 1: find playing time. You should sign with our team. And
- 43:01Speaker 1: the Yankees might not be the best example, but you
- 43:02Speaker 1: should sign with our team because we're going to let
- 43:04Speaker 1: you play and give you it.
- 43:05Speaker 4: But if all things are equal, they'd rather go to LA.
- 43:07Speaker 4: And you're talking about college recruiting and crafts and speak
- 43:09Speaker 4: on this too. Teams go, teams, All the teams go, well,
- 43:13Speaker 4: you were here for a year, you didn't play. Transfer, Please,
- 43:16Speaker 4: we'll find you some one to fill your spot. And
- 43:18Speaker 4: those teams still do well. LSU, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, Tech, Georgia,
- 43:22Speaker 4: whoever you want. In Texas they kick kids out every year.
- 43:25Speaker 4: And you know what, the next kid in line goes, well,
- 43:27Speaker 4: I'm not that kid. I'm better than him and I
- 43:29Speaker 4: can handle it. I'll make my point. That's people don't
- 43:34Speaker 4: professional things. Don't think like that.
- 43:36Speaker 1: I'm overthinking, you know, yes, you're way overthinking.
- 43:39Speaker 4: Rokie because the Yankees, what was the Dodgers had the
- 43:43Speaker 4: lefty of Kwa.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Was he Dodgers or Yankees? He was Yankees with with
- 43:50Speaker 2: the blue cloths.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Another Dodger left you that came over like after Nomo
- 43:53Speaker 4: and he was not.
- 43:54Speaker 1: Very good I know, but now we're going way back.
- 43:57Speaker 4: But that's I'm saying. But it doesn't matter. Yeah, because
- 44:00Speaker 4: the next guy that comes over, who that whoever? That guy,
- 44:03Speaker 4: I don't know who the next Japanese stud is coming
- 44:05Speaker 4: over and the Dodgers give him the same amount of
- 44:08Speaker 4: money and he's got a chance to win, and he's
- 44:11Speaker 4: They say, well, I got a well man, Roki Sazaki
- 44:13Speaker 4: had to go to Triple A. Whoever that Japanese guy,
- 44:16Speaker 4: Korean guy, Dominican, American, whoever that guy is. You know
- 44:19Speaker 4: what they're gonna say, I'm not him, I'm better than him,
- 44:21Speaker 4: and I'll make it work. That's how these guys think.
- 44:23Speaker 4: It's not that never hits anybody. Oh man, well he
- 44:27Speaker 4: got to sit down. It's gonna they can do it
- 44:28Speaker 4: to me. No, I'm not gonna be that guy.
- 44:30Speaker 1: Last thing, Kim, I mean, he was hitting really well
- 44:33Speaker 1: in spring training. They send him down, comes out and
- 44:36Speaker 1: I was hitting. But I mean, whenever one's healthy, like
- 44:38Speaker 1: Edmund's gonna come back, Mookie's gonna come back. They don't
- 44:40Speaker 1: really have playing time for him. Looks pretty good right now.
- 44:43Speaker 1: You can't use that case when you're recruiting someone in
- 44:46Speaker 1: the future.
- 44:46Speaker 4: And say, hey, other teams will use it against them.
- 44:48Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying.
- 44:49Speaker 2: But there's still the Dodgers.
- 44:50Speaker 4: As long as they're winning World Series and going to
- 44:52Speaker 4: the World Series every year, guys are gonna want to
- 44:54Speaker 4: go there. It's La It's the biggest market, especially Asian
- 44:56Speaker 4: guys because Elida Tokyo La Soul. There's direct flights probably
- 45:00Speaker 4: three four times a day. Right, it's easy. There's a
- 45:03Speaker 4: there's an Asian culture already built into the city. Right,
- 45:07Speaker 4: So yes, it does that doesn't It's you know what
- 45:11Speaker 4: it is. It's reality and it sucks, and it's baseball
- 45:14Speaker 4: in it's real world.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 45:15Speaker 2: If you don't play well, you get shipped out. You're
- 45:19Speaker 2: not good, you go bye bye. Sorry. Two two things.
- 45:24Speaker 3: What would I think the Dodgers will have to decide
- 45:27Speaker 3: what's more disrespectful but also helpful for his career. Sending
- 45:32Speaker 3: him the triple A to be in the bullpen where
- 45:34Speaker 3: he had success, I mean, to be in the bullpen
- 45:38Speaker 3: in the big leagues where he had success and it
- 45:40Speaker 3: looks like they're probably something wrong with Edwin anyway. Or
- 45:44Speaker 3: is it send him a triple A where he's got
- 45:46Speaker 3: to learn and develop and then you have a pitcher
- 45:50Speaker 3: for They still have him for five more years, like
- 45:52Speaker 3: they got five years of club control because you know
- 45:56Speaker 3: he's not going to become a free agent anytime soon.
- 45:58Speaker 3: And the next Japanese star that the Dodgers are gonna
- 46:01Speaker 3: get is the sixteen year old Haruki Komoda. If you
- 46:05Speaker 3: haven't seen him, he's ridiculous. He throws ninety five, he
- 46:09Speaker 3: hits dangers. He looks like Aaron Judge compared to the
- 46:12Speaker 3: other high school kids in Japan that he's playing against.
- 46:14Speaker 3: It's crazy the video, But anyway, continue, Let's.
- 46:23Speaker 1: Crack open this back and forth between Eric Lower and
- 46:26Speaker 1: the Blue Jays slash John Schneider. Blue Jay's off to
- 46:29Speaker 1: a slow start. I would say a top three team
- 46:32Speaker 1: in terms of guys that are hurt right now. But
- 46:35Speaker 1: Lower said this about following an opener to be real blunt.
- 46:40Speaker 1: I hate it. I can't stand it, he said. It
- 46:43Speaker 1: messes with his pregame routine as starters or creatures have habit.
- 46:46Speaker 1: Hopefully it's not something we will continue doing, but that's
- 46:49Speaker 1: above my pay grade. John Schneider was asked about the comments,
- 46:53Speaker 1: He said, I respect everyone's opinion. I know the end
- 46:56Speaker 1: of his quote was it's above my pay grade, and
- 46:59Speaker 1: it is definitely above his pay grade. How we use him.
- 47:02Speaker 1: We are trying to win, and Schneider then said they
- 47:05Speaker 1: talked in flowers on board with the plan. Kratz, what
- 47:09Speaker 1: do you think here?
- 47:11Speaker 3: I mean, good for him for saying it. We don't
- 47:13Speaker 3: get a lot of that, but the reality is the
- 47:17Speaker 3: team is trying to make the best decision. That's just
- 47:19Speaker 3: willy nilly going with an opener. He struggles more against
- 47:23Speaker 3: right handers, So if there's a lineup that he's facing
- 47:27Speaker 3: starting that goes right, left, right, I guess that's the chance.
- 47:34Speaker 3: While I'm not a I'm not an opener fan either myself,
- 47:40Speaker 3: that's the best chance for them to say, Okay, well
- 47:42Speaker 3: now we shortened the game to eight innings for you.
- 47:45Speaker 3: Now you don't need to face those two righty's at
- 47:48Speaker 3: the top of a lineup. And to me, it's one
- 47:54Speaker 3: of those things he has to figure out. Is this
- 47:56Speaker 3: helping him if he sits there and goes okay because
- 48:00Speaker 3: I don't get to long toss and go right into
- 48:02Speaker 3: the bullpen because my routine is different, like it really
- 48:05Speaker 3: puts me in a bad mental space. I accept that
- 48:11Speaker 3: I don't believe it. Like you're a big leaguer, you
- 48:15Speaker 3: do have to figure it out. And some people don't
- 48:17Speaker 3: get all the breaks, like they don't just cater to
- 48:21Speaker 3: him to be a starter. But to me, I think
- 48:23Speaker 3: it could be something that could be helpful for him.
- 48:25Speaker 3: I think he could sit there and go, Okay, I
- 48:26Speaker 3: don't have to face those top guys in the lineup
- 48:29Speaker 3: three times through. I can make it longer in the game.
- 48:32Speaker 3: I can give us more innings. I just have to
- 48:35Speaker 3: figure out my routine. I think that's what he was
- 48:37Speaker 3: hinting at, and I get that could be tough, but
- 48:40Speaker 3: I kind of you gotta kind of figure it out.
- 48:44Speaker 3: We always wanted someone to say this. Finally someone said it.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Whether it's being the guy piggybacking an opener or being
- 48:51Speaker 3: the opener, guys have said we don't like it, and
- 48:54Speaker 3: guys have gone to arbitration and said they don't like
- 48:56Speaker 3: it because it gives them a game starter, but it
- 48:58Speaker 3: only gives them one inning pitch. Remember Ryan Stanick for
- 49:01Speaker 3: a while was that guy, and he said it hurt
- 49:03Speaker 3: his salary and now lower he's going to get to
- 49:06Speaker 3: pitch the bulk.
- 49:07Speaker 2: But when he goes to arbitration.
- 49:09Speaker 4: Again, he's an arbitration.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Well you know what happened. This is actually the perfect case.
- 49:12Speaker 2: But you see what I'm saying.
- 49:13Speaker 4: But then he goes and they say, well, you're not
- 49:14Speaker 4: a starter, You're just a bulk middal reliever, so you
- 49:17Speaker 4: should be paid less. So I mean, there's a lot
- 49:20Speaker 4: that goes into this, and the teams and openers have
- 49:22Speaker 4: really usually worked has been on younger teams because they
- 49:25Speaker 4: don't But when you're the Blue Jays and you have
- 49:27Speaker 4: some older guys and Lower's probably the youngest of their
- 49:30Speaker 4: starters that they have other than the Savage is not
- 49:32Speaker 4: pitching right now, they're like, oh, we can do it
- 49:34Speaker 4: to him. You're not doing this to Sureser, you're not
- 49:36Speaker 4: doing it to Gosman, you're not doing to Barrios, You're
- 49:39Speaker 4: not doing it to those guys. So in addition, but
- 49:42Speaker 4: again I don't know because I don't watch the Blue
- 49:44Speaker 4: Jays every day. Now John Schneider freaking snap back at him.
- 49:48Speaker 4: It was like, you're right, it is above his pay grade.
- 49:50Speaker 2: So okay, So.
- 49:51Speaker 4: What's the level of the pay grade that it has
- 49:53Speaker 4: to be to where you don't get an opener? Is
- 49:56Speaker 4: it Gozman, is it sures Er, is it Barrios? Is
- 50:00Speaker 4: it Dylan Sneeze, Dylan Dana But in an opener, if
- 50:03Speaker 4: it's left left left against Dylan ceas they're not using
- 50:05Speaker 4: Eric lawers the opener, then bringing season in the second.
- 50:09Speaker 1: That's correct.
- 50:10Speaker 4: So that's where the question for me is is what's
- 50:13Speaker 4: that level of how high does your pay grade have
- 50:15Speaker 4: to be in order to not have it?
- 50:17Speaker 1: Well, I'm going to give you like a little bit
- 50:18Speaker 1: of the history here. So last year had a dynamite
- 50:21Speaker 1: season three okay, but he had been trying to find
- 50:24Speaker 1: himself and had some success as a multi inning reliever
- 50:27Speaker 1: right and started building up the innings. In the past,
- 50:31Speaker 1: there was a very clear drop off in his career
- 50:33Speaker 1: after fifty pitches, so you're like, oh, this might be
- 50:35Speaker 1: the right spot. But then he really starts to find
- 50:38Speaker 1: it and all of a sudden, you had the injuries
- 50:39Speaker 1: last year with Boden Francis and with Scherzer, he's thrust
- 50:43Speaker 1: into the rotation. Fourteen starts from June eleven to August sixteen.
- 50:47Speaker 1: He produces a three zero five ERA. On the season,
- 50:50Speaker 1: he had a one thirty four ERA plus and over
- 50:52Speaker 1: one hundred innings. He was great in the Alcs and
- 50:54Speaker 1: the World Series, and then you get to arbitration and
- 50:57Speaker 1: he loses. It sounds like because they were like, you're
- 51:01Speaker 1: not a full, bona fide starter, and that's a good
- 51:05Speaker 1: way to piss someone off. And all of a sudden,
- 51:08Speaker 1: you're now in twenty twenty six, Crafts coming off a
- 51:11Speaker 1: huge year. It's like, I couldn't have done anything better,
- 51:13Speaker 1: and you're being asked to do the opener thing again.
- 51:17Speaker 1: Do you think there's any factor there from what happens
- 51:20Speaker 1: with arbitration for a guy who's not making I mean,
- 51:23Speaker 1: some MLB players are rich, he's not racking in millions
- 51:26Speaker 1: of dollars. I think the case was over like one
- 51:28Speaker 1: point something.
- 51:30Speaker 3: Yeah, But so his case was the argument was he
- 51:33Speaker 3: actually got a salary decrease for everybody who didn't know
- 51:36Speaker 3: his in twenty three. In twenty three, I think he
- 51:41Speaker 3: made five million, and then in twenty four he was
- 51:45Speaker 3: essentially not in the big leagues. So in twenty five
- 51:49Speaker 3: he got a minor league deal, a non roster invite
- 51:54Speaker 3: that ended up being a big league deal because he
- 51:56Speaker 3: was in the big leagues, so he got a salary
- 51:59Speaker 3: decrease and so that made him mad. But this is
- 52:02Speaker 3: obviously a way bigger case. But when Hater had his
- 52:07Speaker 3: arbitration case, they argued, you know, you're going multiple innings,
- 52:13Speaker 3: so we're gonna we're not gonna see you the same way.
- 52:15Speaker 3: And he's like, okay, I won't go multiple innings from
- 52:18Speaker 3: now on. Now this is Eric Lower's career. This is
- 52:22Speaker 3: not exactly like Josh Haters. But Josh Hater did that
- 52:27Speaker 3: because he got dopped. It didn't mean he wasn't competitive.
- 52:30Speaker 3: It didn't mean he didn't care about his team. It
- 52:32Speaker 3: meant the system docked him. So why would you unless
- 52:37Speaker 3: the teams are unafraid to be like, Okay, this is
- 52:40Speaker 3: a this is an individual case. We're gonna we're not
- 52:43Speaker 3: gonna docu you. Same thing with Lower. Lower's like, I
- 52:46Speaker 3: think it's twofold. I think he feels like the routine
- 52:50Speaker 3: messes with him, that he wants to be able to start.
- 52:52Speaker 3: But also the arbitration part really matters because he's not
- 52:57Speaker 3: he's not twenty five years old. He's not gonna have
- 52:59Speaker 3: a ton of heydays. And so at thirty years old,
- 53:02Speaker 3: you understand you just went through the arbitration process where
- 53:05Speaker 3: they kind of screwed you. So I'm not gonna sit
- 53:08Speaker 3: here and just hold my tongue the whole time.
- 53:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And one quick note at the end here because
- 53:14Speaker 1: he was coming over from Asia and this was like
- 53:15Speaker 1: an MLB Labor Relations Department versus PA battle. Like this
- 53:19Speaker 1: was like a case that was more mini landmark in
- 53:23Speaker 1: the future. What will happen is what Ken Roosevelt wrote
- 53:26Speaker 1: about in others Ever written too. You can negotiate language
- 53:29Speaker 1: that allows players like that to become free agents at
- 53:31Speaker 1: the end of their contracts. They're gonna push for that
- 53:33Speaker 1: because of a case like this. So you know, he
- 53:35Speaker 1: lost that battle. He actually probably helped a lot of
- 53:37Speaker 1: guys going forward because of how this all played out.
- 53:39Speaker 1: So it's still go kind of spilling into this year.
- 53:42Speaker 1: Good debate, good and interesting discussion.
