- 0:00Speaker 1: Gospel reflection for the second day of November in the
- 0:04Speaker 1: year of our Lord, 2026. Commemoration of all the faithful departed,
- 0:10Speaker 1: also known as all souls. And y'all have to forgive me,
- 0:14Speaker 1: I've done several of these in a row. I'm trying
- 0:16Speaker 1: to get a few recorded before we go, so if
- 0:19Speaker 1: my voice is a little raspy, that's the reason why.
- 0:22Speaker 1: But today's reading is from Romans 6, 3-9. Know you...
- 0:29Speaker 1: not that all we who are baptized in Christ Jesus
- 0:32Speaker 1: are baptized in his death. For we are buried together
- 0:37Speaker 1: with him by baptism into death. That as Christ is
- 0:42Speaker 1: risen from the dead by the glory of the Father,
- 0:44Speaker 1: so we also may walk in the newness of life.
- 0:47Speaker 1: For if we have been planted together in the likeness
- 0:49Speaker 1: of his death, we shall be also in the likeness
- 0:52Speaker 1: of his resurrection. Knowing this, that our old man is
- 0:55Speaker 1: crucified with him, that the body of sin may be destroyed,
- 1:01Speaker 1: to the end that we may serve sin no longer.
- 1:04Speaker 1: For he that is dead is justified from sin. Now,
- 1:07Speaker 1: if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we
- 1:10Speaker 1: shall also live together with Christ, knowing that Christ is
- 1:13Speaker 1: rising again from the dead. Dieth now no more. Death
- 1:18Speaker 1: shall no more have dominion over him. For in that
- 1:22Speaker 1: he died to sin, he died once. but in that
- 1:25Speaker 1: he liveth, he liveth unto God. The Dewey Rings explains,
- 1:30Speaker 1: our old man, therefore our corrupt state, subject to sin, concupiscence.
- 1:36Speaker 1: Concupiscence is the proclivity to do bad rather than good.
- 1:40Speaker 1: It's the result of original sin, by the way. I
- 1:43Speaker 1: don't like it when Catholics use big words and don't,
- 1:49Speaker 1: what's my word, define them. I've been When I was
- 1:52Speaker 1: a Protestant, I would read Catholic books and I had
- 1:55Speaker 1: to constantly run to the dictionary. So there you have it.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So concupiscence, the tendency to sin. Coming to us from
- 2:02Speaker 1: Adam is called our old man as our state, reformed
- 2:06Speaker 1: in and by Christ is the new man. Our state now,
- 2:10Speaker 1: our new state, reformed in and by Christ is the
- 2:13Speaker 1: new man. And the body of sin, as he says,
- 2:15Speaker 1: is the vices and sins which ruled us are named
- 2:19Speaker 1: the body of sin. So, This is the promise of Christ.
- 2:23Speaker 1: We who are baptized may have eternal life. However, that's
- 2:26Speaker 1: just the beginning. When we're baptized, we're cleansed of all original,
- 2:31Speaker 1: that's inherited, and actual sins, so sins we've actually committed.
- 2:35Speaker 1: It is extremely important that a child be baptized at
- 2:38Speaker 1: the earliest possible time for three reasons. One, each of
- 2:42Speaker 1: us is born with original sins and inherited from our
- 2:44Speaker 1: first parents. That stain is even on the infant who
- 2:48Speaker 1: has never committed any actual sin and is incapable of reason.
- 2:53Speaker 1: The Blessed Virgin Mary has assured us that she will
- 2:56Speaker 1: take special care of unbaptized infants who die in the
- 2:58Speaker 1: womb or soon after, and their souls will not be lost.
- 3:02Speaker 1: But it is hard to say when one's rebellious will
- 3:05Speaker 1: is formed and one begins to disobey. For me, it
- 3:09Speaker 1: was probably around the age of three. I was a
- 3:11Speaker 1: bad kid. I mean, literally, from the beginning. Too many
- 3:16Speaker 1: parents in our time, especially Protestants but also Catholics, put
- 3:19Speaker 1: off baptism. That in itself is a grave sin as
- 3:23Speaker 1: the parents have the duty to ensure the salvation of
- 3:28Speaker 1: their children. We simply never know when death may come
- 3:31Speaker 1: for any of us. Taking this one simple action is
- 3:35Speaker 1: the most important thing you can do to make sure
- 3:37Speaker 1: your child is saved. Get your kid baptized on the
- 3:41Speaker 1: day of birth if possible. I mean immediately. Baptism 2.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Baptism joins one into the body of Christ and protects
- 3:50Speaker 1: one from being possessed by demonic spirits against his or
- 3:52Speaker 1: her will. Demons are real. And as anyone who's ever
- 3:56Speaker 1: encountered an exorcist like Father Ripperger knows, children are particularly
- 4:02Speaker 1: vulnerable to the spirit world. Angels and demons are constantly
- 4:05Speaker 1: battling for the souls of each person. Not only are
- 4:09Speaker 1: young children in danger, but rebellious teens... who may be
- 4:14Speaker 1: tempted to dabble in the occult are especially at risk.
- 4:18Speaker 1: This simple act is essential for protection. Get your kids
- 4:22Speaker 1: baptized immediately. And three, the baptized person at any age
- 4:28Speaker 1: receives the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is essential to
- 4:30Speaker 1: form the conscience. No matter the moral instruction given to
- 4:34Speaker 1: a child, without the Holy Spirit, it is incomplete. Those
- 4:38Speaker 1: Protestants who say, particularly Baptists, that infants and children should
- 4:42Speaker 1: not be baptized, put their children in grave risk of
- 4:47Speaker 1: demonic possession. Grave risk of dying unbaptized and literally going
- 4:52Speaker 1: to hell, okay? And grave risk of misunderstanding. I mean,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they say read the Bible and the Holy Spirit will
- 5:02Speaker 1: guide you, but you don't have the Holy Spirit until
- 5:04Speaker 1: you're baptized. There are a lot of people who misunderstand
- 5:08Speaker 1: the Bible. If there weren't, there would not be 50,000
- 5:11Speaker 1: protestant denominations each of which disagrees with the other and
- 5:15Speaker 1: all of which reject the catholic church there's one truth
- 5:19Speaker 1: there's one truth so one's right 50 000 are wrong
- 5:23Speaker 1: uh how do you think that happens well a lot
- 5:27Speaker 1: of it has to do with not being baptized um
- 5:29Speaker 1: to this day you can go to franklin graham's website
- 5:32Speaker 1: and he says baptism is unnecessary even though jesus said
- 5:34Speaker 1: it was even though saint paul said it was even
- 5:36Speaker 1: though saint um who am i trying to remember um Well, anyway,
- 5:43Speaker 1: the Bible says specifically and repeatedly that you must be baptized.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But the Grahams say no. After baptism, one must avoid sin.
- 5:56Speaker 1: When we commit mortal sin, the Holy Spirit leaves even
- 5:59Speaker 1: the baptized. That's why we need the rest of the sacraments,
- 6:02Speaker 1: but none of those can be received without first being baptized.
- 6:06Speaker 1: While the church does teach the baptism of blood, meaning
- 6:10Speaker 1: that one martyred for the faith is literally baptized by
- 6:14Speaker 1: the shedding of their blood, and the baptism of intent,
- 6:18Speaker 1: meaning that one who has come to faith in our
- 6:21Speaker 1: Lord would obey his commandment and be baptized if given
- 6:24Speaker 1: the opportunity before death, that's a serious gamble. The older
- 6:28Speaker 1: we get, the more set in our ways we become,
- 6:31Speaker 1: the more convinced of our own opinions and We become,
- 6:34Speaker 1: and the more we may put off even things we
- 6:37Speaker 1: know we should do. That is especially true if we've
- 6:40Speaker 1: been influenced by the wrong people, the wrong books, the
- 6:44Speaker 1: wrong entertainment, the wrong college, etc. The bottom line is
- 6:50Speaker 1: that if Jesus said we must be baptized, and he
- 6:52Speaker 1: did repeatedly, you must get baptized. Do it now, if
- 6:59Speaker 1: you haven't, and do it for your kids immediately. And
- 7:04Speaker 1: here's the deal. People say, well, my priest is too busy.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I have this huge parish and one precinct. He can't
- 7:10Speaker 1: schedule it for three years. Forget it. Anybody can baptize.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You can baptize your own kid. This is the one sacrament.
- 7:18Speaker 1: I mean, baptism and marriage are valid whether you go
- 7:21Speaker 1: to a Catholic priest or not. Baptize in the name
- 7:24Speaker 1: of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Get your catechism. Read how to do it. Make sure
- 7:28Speaker 1: you do it right. Baptize with water. you can baptize
- 7:32Speaker 1: your child at the very moment of his or her birth.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Then a priest can do what's called a conditional baptism,
- 7:40Speaker 1: meaning that you can only be baptized once, okay? It's
- 7:44Speaker 1: a permanent seal. But the priest can say, well, if
- 7:49Speaker 1: you did anything wrong, if you made a mistake, if
- 7:52Speaker 1: you weren't quite sure about what you're doing, I'll baptize
- 7:55Speaker 1: them again conditionally. That way, He makes sure that that
- 8:00Speaker 1: first baptism is permanent and proper. I spoke with someone
- 8:06Speaker 1: in Japan today. This is an adult convert to Catholicism.
- 8:11Speaker 1: He can't get baptized until next April. And he's getting
- 8:16Speaker 1: ready to take a trip to Tokyo. And I said, look,
- 8:22Speaker 1: you need to be baptized right now. You do not need.
- 8:26Speaker 1: to take a travel and move and all that, go
- 8:29Speaker 1: find somebody to baptize you. Go talk to every priest
- 8:32Speaker 1: in your parish. If not, even a non-Catholic can baptize,
- 8:38Speaker 1: even a non-Christian, even a Jew or a Buddhist can
- 8:42Speaker 1: baptize a Christian. That happens very often on the battlefield
- 8:49Speaker 1: when someone has that conversion, knowing they're about to die.
- 8:54Speaker 1: And they'll turn to, you know, the next soldier over
- 8:57Speaker 1: in the foxhole. And it could be a Jewish guy.
- 9:01Speaker 1: And he says to him, you know, I believe this.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Could you do this for me? The Jew or the
- 9:07Speaker 1: Buddhist or the atheist will read, I baptize you in
- 9:12Speaker 1: the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
- 9:14Speaker 1: Whether they believe it or not does not matter, okay?
- 9:17Speaker 1: And will put water on the person. does not have
- 9:21Speaker 1: to be immersed. You do not have to go into
- 9:23Speaker 1: a river like, oh, brother, where art thou? You can
- 9:26Speaker 1: just have water sprinkled on you. You need the right words.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You need the right intent. And you need water, actual water, okay?
- 9:37Speaker 1: So get baptized right away. Do it now. You cannot
- 9:42Speaker 1: baptize yourself, unfortunately, but anyone can baptize you. If you
- 9:48Speaker 1: are a an absolute devout Catholic who would never set
- 9:53Speaker 1: foot in a Protestant church. I absolutely understand. I absolutely agree.
- 9:59Speaker 1: We don't need to validate Protestants by taking part in
- 10:05Speaker 1: their religious worship services, whatever. A Protestant minister can absolutely
- 10:11Speaker 1: baptize a Catholic. Whether he will or not, I don't know.
- 10:16Speaker 1: But anyone, your neighbor... Your parent, your garbage man can
- 10:22Speaker 1: baptize you. Anyone can baptize you. Do it now. Do
- 10:30Speaker 1: it immediately. What happens to the Bible? Right after belief,
- 10:33Speaker 1: they baptize them. Then there's a whole process of learning
- 10:37Speaker 1: things and confirmation comes about where you receive the fullness
- 10:40Speaker 1: of the Holy Spirit. But every person validly baptized, Catholic
- 10:47Speaker 1: or not, is part of the body of Christ and
- 10:50Speaker 1: receives a measure of the Holy Spirit. That is absolutely
- 10:54Speaker 1: the most essential thing in life. The most essential thing
- 10:59Speaker 1: in life is your baptism. Never forget it. So, baptize
- 11:04Speaker 1: your kids immediately. Baptism does not take away free will.
- 11:07Speaker 1: If your child strays from the faith, at least you've
- 11:10Speaker 1: done your part in giving them the opportunity of eternal life.
- 11:15Speaker 1: baptism and instruction in faith and morals is the greatest
- 11:19Speaker 1: gift you can give your children and the deepest expression
- 11:22Speaker 1: of love. Do it. Do it now. Do it tonight.
- 11:27Speaker 1: If you have to drag your kid to the bathroom
- 11:30Speaker 1: and put some water in the tub or whatever you
- 11:32Speaker 1: got to do, do it now. Do it tonight. Do
- 11:36Speaker 1: it today. Do it today. Okay, so I'm recording this.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It's at 624. That's why I said tonight. If you
- 11:43Speaker 1: watch this at 7 o'clock tomorrow morning, I want you
- 11:46Speaker 1: by 710, 715 to be baptized or go baptize your
- 11:50Speaker 1: children or get your priest on the phone and say,
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't want my kid to go to hell. You
- 11:55Speaker 1: need to baptize him or her now. And if you don't,
- 11:59Speaker 1: I'm going to complain to the bishop. Get it done,
- 12:02Speaker 1: whatever it takes. Do it now. Do it. What was
- 12:06Speaker 1: that old, oh, it wasn't Saturday Night Live. It was
- 12:10Speaker 1: some comedy. Oh, yeah, Ben Stiller. Do it. Do it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Do it now. I'm serious. It is the most important thing, okay?
- 12:21Speaker 1: Get baptized. Baptize your kids. Baptize your spouse. Baptize your
- 12:25Speaker 1: brother or your sister. Baptize your neighbor. If the priest
- 12:29Speaker 1: can't do it, if the priest is unwilling to do it,
- 12:32Speaker 1: if the person is unwilling to go to church, if
- 12:35Speaker 1: you have an atheist relative that is sick on the
- 12:40Speaker 1: verge of death, go baptize them. You don't know what's
- 12:44Speaker 1: going to happen. I mean, you can't really baptize someone
- 12:48Speaker 1: against their will if they don't accept Christ as the Savior.
- 12:53Speaker 1: But you can baptize someone without their understanding. You can
- 12:58Speaker 1: certainly baptize children. The Bible says they baptized everyone in
- 13:01Speaker 1: the household when the family converted. They didn't say everyone
- 13:04Speaker 1: but the children. No, you baptize everyone. Then it's up
- 13:08Speaker 1: to them. But at least they then have the access
- 13:12Speaker 1: to the Holy Spirit that can work on their heart
- 13:14Speaker 1: and their mind. Without baptism, whether an infant or someone
- 13:19Speaker 1: who's an 85-year-old atheist does not have the direction, the
- 13:28Speaker 1: influence of the Holy Spirit. Your 85-year-old atheist uncle or
- 13:34Speaker 1: aunt who's on their deathbed, you can absolutely baptize them
- 13:39Speaker 1: against their will. Wait until they're asleep or unconscious. then
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Holy Spirit can start working on them. If you
- 13:48Speaker 1: don't do that, you're going to have to answer for it.
- 13:50Speaker 1: You're actually going to be held accountable for it. Baptism
- 13:53Speaker 1: is the most important thing. And bottom line is, you
- 13:57Speaker 1: just say to them, hey, if you don't believe in God, well,
- 14:03Speaker 1: what do you care if I sprinkle some water on
- 14:04Speaker 1: you and I say in the name of the Father, Son,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and the Holy Spirit? Seriously. It's a gamble. Either it
- 14:13Speaker 1: works and, you know, you're going to be saved, or
- 14:16Speaker 1: God doesn't exist and it doesn't matter. You've got nothing
- 14:19Speaker 1: to lose. I mean, certainly if you are a nurse
- 14:24Speaker 1: or something in a facility, you, by law, cannot go
- 14:28Speaker 1: around baptizing people against their will, okay? That's a legal issue,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but a family member can absolutely do it. Absolutely. Now,
- 14:37Speaker 1: if that person recovers and sues you... You know, I
- 14:42Speaker 1: think that would be the only time that cases ever
- 14:45Speaker 1: come up before a court in America and would probably
- 14:48Speaker 1: be laughed out of court because they would not be
- 14:51Speaker 1: able to show actual harm. It would be a violation
- 14:55Speaker 1: of conscience for a nurse or a doctor or something
- 14:59Speaker 1: like that to do something against someone's will. It would
- 15:04Speaker 1: be a moral issue as well, not just a legal issue.
- 15:06Speaker 1: But for a family member, it's actually your duty. You work.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Get yourself baptized. Baptize everybody in your life. And if possible,
- 15:16Speaker 1: certainly go to a priest. It's definitely better to go
- 15:18Speaker 1: to a priest who stands in the stead of Christ.
- 15:22Speaker 1: His hands are the hands of Jesus. I mean, yes,
- 15:25Speaker 1: that is the ideal. But it's far better for even
- 15:30Speaker 1: a non-Christian to baptize a person than for a person
- 15:35Speaker 1: to die without being baptized. That's what... The catechism says,
- 15:41Speaker 1: to the best of my understanding, if I'm wrong, tell
- 15:43Speaker 1: me I'm wrong. But that's the teachings of the Catholic Church,
- 15:48Speaker 1: as best I know. And, I mean, I've read, you know,
- 15:55Speaker 1: various Catholic writers and saints and doctors of the church
- 15:58Speaker 1: who are even far more adamant on this point than
- 16:00Speaker 1: I am. So I don't think I'm in any way misrepresenting.
- 16:04Speaker 1: I never, of course, want to misrepresent. It would be
- 16:08Speaker 1: wrong to trick someone into baptism. I think that would
- 16:10Speaker 1: be wrong. It would be wrong to lie to someone.
- 16:13Speaker 1: But if someone's unconscious, very often priests will be called
- 16:17Speaker 1: in to give last rites. And if they don't know
- 16:20Speaker 1: that the person's been validly baptized, so baptize them right there,
- 16:24Speaker 1: even after death, okay? I think you get like a
- 16:27Speaker 1: 15-minute period or something. But anyway, y'all have a good one.
- 16:33Speaker 1: It gets a little longer than 15 minutes, you know.
- 16:38Speaker 1: In times past, people would go into comas and they
- 16:43Speaker 1: didn't know if they were dead or alive. So last
- 16:46Speaker 1: rites can be performed on someone who appears to be dead.
- 16:50Speaker 1: What are the last rites? Well, it's anointing with oil.
- 16:52Speaker 1: It's forgiveness of sins. In some cases, if a family
- 17:01Speaker 1: member says the person's never been baptized, but we're Catholic,
- 17:05Speaker 1: And we believe they would have wanted to if they
- 17:08Speaker 1: had known to. The priest will. But, you know, I
- 17:11Speaker 1: could be wrong about that. You have to talk with
- 17:13Speaker 1: your priest about that. I do know that in the case,
- 17:16Speaker 1: my personal case, there is a family member who is unbaptized.
- 17:22Speaker 1: And the priest said he would do that. Exactly those words.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not making this up. The priest said,
- 17:27Speaker 1: no problem. When she goes into the hospital, if things
- 17:33Speaker 1: look like they're getting toward the end, call me. I
- 17:35Speaker 1: will come do baptism and then do last rites, and
- 17:38Speaker 1: this person's not even Catholic, okay? Baptism is not exclusive
- 17:44Speaker 1: to Catholics any more than marriage is. All right, y'all,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I'm going a little long on this one. Have a
- 17:49Speaker 1: great day, and I'll talk to you tomorrow.
