- 0:07The New York Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park for a Tuesday-day game on May 30, 1961.
- 0:14New York was looking to make it back to the World Series in 1961 under new manager Ralph Hauk.
- 0:19Casey Stengel had left the team after the loss of the Pirates in the 1960 World Series,
- 0:24the Yankees' 11th appearance in the Fall Classic in the past 14 years.
- 0:28But the main attraction that was starting to brew in New York was the emergence of Mantle and Maris.
- 0:32They hit 40 and 39 home runs respectively in 1960 and were coming into this game red hot,
- 0:38with 11 home runs for Mantle and 9 for Maris.
- 0:41The Red Sox were an average team in the early 1960s.
- 0:44They were managed by Pinky Higgins, who had led the team throughout the late 1950s
- 0:48before being moved to the front office.
- 0:50Red Sox owner Tom Yockey swapped around five managers in two years with little success.
- 0:55Higgins returned again as the full-time manager for the 1961 season.
- 0:59This audio recording is from the New York Radio broadcast featuring announcers Bob Delaney, Phil Rizzuto, and Mel Allen.
- 1:29This is an declaration with Sports Network by authority of the Yankees.
- 1:32It's intended solely for the private enjoyment of our listening audience.
- 1:35And any rebroadcast or other use of this play-by-play description
- 1:39without the express consent of the Yankees is prohibited.
- 1:44A lovely day in Boston today.
- 1:48And we're just about set to join Phil Rizzuto, who'll be sending us the starting lineups.
- 1:55For those of you who did not remain up until the wee hours,
- 2:00we remind you that the Red Sox last night,
- 2:04Red Sox winning 2 to 1.
- 2:10This afternoon Ralph Terry goes for the Yankees
- 2:14and Gene Connolly for the Boston Red Sox.
- 2:23The temperature today in Boston is about 65 degrees.
- 2:26It's quite comparable to the weather we're enjoying in New York.
- 2:33The bullpen brigade has just made its way out towards the bullpen in right field.
- 2:41And so it's time now for us to join Bill Rizzuto with the starting lineups.
- 2:48Now we have the starting lineups for you.
- 2:50Ralph Hauke has really shaken up the Yankee lineup.
- 2:53Matter of fact, driving home in the bus last night after the ball game,
- 2:58Ralph was saying that he's not going to go with the old theory
- 3:01that you need a lot of right-hand hitters here at Fenway Park
- 3:04because whenever you put the right-hand hitters in,
- 3:06they try to hit the ball over the fence.
- 3:08And as a result, they're swinging at best.
- 3:10So he stacked his batting lineup with left-handed power.
- 3:13He has five left-hand hitters.
- 3:15Leading off today, playing third base Cleeds Boyer,
- 3:18an unusual spot for Boyer in the lineup.
- 3:21Tony Kubek moved down in the second spot in the batting order.
- 3:23Tony playing shortstop.
- 3:25In right field will be Roger Maris batting third.
- 3:28Mickey Mantle will be in center field hitting clean up.
- 3:31In left field today, in batting fifth, Yogi Berra.
- 3:34Bill Scaram will be at first base batting sixth.
- 3:37During the catching and batting seventh, Johnny Blanchard.
- 3:41Bobby Richardson will be at second base,
- 3:43batting in the eighth position and doing the pitching
- 3:45and batting ninth, Ralph Terry.
- 3:48For the Boston Red Sox, leading off playing second base,
- 3:51Chuck Schilling.
- 3:53In center field and batting second will be Gary Geiger.
- 3:56Vic Wertz, who got the winning hit last night,
- 3:58driving in Jackie Jensen.
- 4:00The Red Sox defeated the Yankees 2-1.
- 4:03Wertz will be at first base batting third.
- 4:04Jensen, who along with scoring the winning run,
- 4:07had a homer last night,
- 4:09will be in right field hitting the clean up spot
- 4:11at third base batting fifth, Frank Malzone.
- 4:14Jim Pagliarone will be the catcher,
- 4:16batting in the sixth position.
- 4:18Carol Hardy, batting seventh and playing left field.
- 4:21The shortstop batting eighth will be Don Budden.
- 4:24And doing the pitching and batting ninth, Gene Conley.
- 4:28The umpires for today's game, and right now they are gathered
- 4:30at home plate with Ralph Halk and Mike Higgins.
- 4:34Calling balls and strikes, Bob Stewart.
- 4:37At first base, Charlie Berry.
- 4:39Umpiring at second, Joel Insalata.
- 4:41And Frank Umott will be calling them at third base.
- 4:45They break up the huddle at home plate.
- 4:51And we'll be ready to go down in the field in just a little while.
- 4:54As we told you, there were no other games
- 4:56in the American League yesterday,
- 4:58so the Yankees dropped a half game to Detroit, to Cleveland,
- 5:03well to everybody except for the Red Sox
- 5:06who picked up a full game on them.
- 5:08But Baltimore, now tied with the Yankees,
- 5:11they're just percentage points actually behind New York.
- 5:14But the Yankees and the Orioles are both five games
- 5:16behind the league leading Detroit Tigers.
- 5:18Cleveland in second place three and a half games out.
- 5:21And in the National League,
- 5:23Cincinnati defeated the league leading Giants 5-1.
- 5:27And Los Angeles behind Sandy Koufax
- 5:30defeated the St. Louis Cardinals
- 5:32and Larry Jackson last night 2-1.
- 5:35So the Dodgers picked up a full game and they're now a game
- 5:37and a half behind the Giants.
- 5:39And the Red Sox are leading the Yankees
- 5:41and the Pittsburgh follow.
- 5:43And there go the Red Sox out in the field.
- 5:45And walking out to the mound is Gene Conley.
- 6:07Right now we'll have our national anthem.
- 7:07Another good-sized crowd here today,
- 7:10not quite as large as last night.
- 7:13It's always a good baseball city, Boston.
- 7:16Gene Conley has won two and lost three in the year.
- 7:19No record against the Yankees.
- 7:21It's Conley's eighth appearance of the year
- 7:23and the seventh as a starter.
- 7:25Remember he pitched against the Yankees last time out.
- 7:28And against Ralph Terry,
- 7:30Conley allowed just two runs in seven innings on seven hits.
- 7:32He walked one and struck out three.
- 7:34Both of Conley's wins have been shut out.
- 7:37The last one was against Detroit on May the 18th.
- 7:40It's a four-hitter.
- 7:49Lee Boyer will be leading off for the Yankees today.
- 7:52Frank Crissetti goes to the coaching box at third.
- 7:54Wally Moses down the first.
- 7:57Conley is six feet, eight inches tall.
- 7:59The coach is a little bit more than a half a foot tall.
- 8:02Conley is six feet, eight inches tall.
- 8:04The tallest ball player in the major league, 227 pounds.
- 8:09And he's played basketball for the Boston Celtics
- 8:11since the 1958-59 season.
- 8:15He's the only man to play two major professional sports
- 8:17in the same city.
- 8:20And as you know, basketball is a grueling game.
- 8:25But it didn't take Conley long to get in shape for baseball.
- 8:27He played about 10 days, went out and pitched the game and won it.
- 8:36Conley's been in the big leagues since 1954.
- 8:39Actually, he was up with the old Boston Braves in 52,
- 8:42but only for four ball games.
- 8:46Lee Boyer steps in at a batter's box.
- 8:50Boyer batting 243.
- 8:52Four doubles, one triple, two homers, and 12 RBI.
- 9:05Big Gene Conley checks the sign from Pagliaroni.
- 9:09Mitch De Boyer is a swing and a miss strike one at a high fast ball.
- 9:18Pagliaroni is six feet, three inches tall,
- 9:20so this must be the tallest batter in both leagues.
- 9:27The one strike curve ball is low outside, one on one.
- 9:45Here's the one-one delivery.
- 9:47It's over the inside corner, strike two, score.
- 10:05Outfield straight away on Boyer.
- 10:08Pitch is a line drive base hit to left field.
- 10:10In the hole between third and short, Carroll Hardy up with it.
- 10:14Boyer opens the ball game with a line shot to left.
- 10:20That brings up Tony Kubek.
- 10:28Tony's batting 299, dipped under the 300 mark last night.
- 10:31He has nine doubles, one triple, three homers, and 12 RBI.
- 10:35Dick Wirtz holding the bag against Boyer.
- 10:44Malzone is in at third.
- 10:45Here's the stretch.
- 10:46The pitch to Kubek is bunned foul down a third base line.
- 10:50So Malzone must have had a hunch he was playing in on Kubek.
- 10:53Still Tony trying to drop one down, bunned foul.
- 11:08Starting to cloud up a little bit, though there's no threat of rain today.
- 11:14Boyer with the short lead off first.
- 11:16The stretch, the pitch is fouled out of play and back up third base, strike two.
- 11:27Roger Maris on deck.
- 11:43Tapping in two on Kubek, the stretch and the pitch is outside, ball one.
- 11:50For some of you fans driving around or near the stadium,
- 11:53the Yankee Stadium advance ticket window is open today until 5 o'clock
- 11:57for your ticket shopping convenience.
- 11:59One of Grand Central Terminal is not open today, though.
- 12:04All right, Conley sets.
- 12:06Pitch is a swing and a miss, strike three.
- 12:09That's a fastball by Kubek.
- 12:12Conley's first strikeout and here's Roger Maris.
- 12:16Roger batting 231, two doubles, nine homers and 23 RBI.
- 12:24Very enthusiastic fans up here in Fenway Park.
- 12:30And adds something to the ball game.
- 12:33Puts up the ball players and everybody around.
- 12:38Boyer leads off first. Pitch to Maris is hit deep, but foul the right field, way back there.
- 12:45And up on top of the roof and right on out of the ballpark.
- 12:48Maris really got a hold of an inside fastball.
- 12:52Drilled it deep over the roof, but foul.
- 12:55A long strike.
- 13:00Outfield shifting around towards right on Maris and deep.
- 13:11Here's a stretch by Conley.
- 13:13His pitch is a line drive, base hit, pass to second baseman, a right center.
- 13:17Boyer around second, digging for third, and Maris holds it first with a single.
- 13:25Second hit off Conley.
- 13:31And all the noise because Mickey Maddow's coming up there.
- 13:35Mickey batting 306, five doubles, one triple, 11 homers and 27 RBI.
- 13:43Nick accounted for the lone Yankee run last night with his long home run into the Yankee bullpen in right field.
- 13:53In field and double play depth with one out run as a first and third.
- 13:57At the top of the first inning, no score in this ballgame.
- 14:02On deck, Yogi Berra.
- 14:06Stretch by Conley. Pitch to Maddow. Inside ball one.
- 14:16Maris at first, Boyer at third.
- 14:27Conley sets. Pitch is outside ball two. Two and nothing.
- 14:46Conley ready again.
- 14:48Maddow takes a strike on the outside corner. Two balls, one strike.
- 14:55Conley throwing hard here in the top of the first inning.
- 15:05Ready for the 2-1 delivery. A check to swing and it's just a little bit high, ball three.
- 15:10Three and one.
- 15:19Three balls, one strike on Mickey.
- 15:27The pitch is swung and it missed strike two and Mickey let go at bat with one hand and swings that right arm up in the air.
- 15:32He has his wrist heavily taped and is also having a little trouble with his right shoulder.
- 15:38Not counting the legs.
- 15:45Full count on Maddow with one away. Let's see if Maris will be going.
- 15:50Boyer is at third. Maris at first.
- 15:57Here's the stretch. There goes Maris. It's strike three. He dropped the ball.
- 16:01No wait, he foul tipped it.
- 16:04He must have just gotten a little piece of that ball and Pagliaroni dropped it.
- 16:09Catch a pick up some dirt and throws it down. Maris was going with the pitch.
- 16:14I wondered why Pagliaroni didn't bounce on the ball and throw it a second but Maddow just nicked it.
- 16:19So he's got a life.
- 16:22Still three and two on Mickey. Here's the stretch.
- 16:25There goes Maris. There's a drive through deep right field way back there.
- 16:29The ball is in the ball pen for home run for Maddow.
- 16:33And there's a difference. They say baseball is a game of inches.
- 16:37And Pagliaroni held on to that foul tipped. Maddow would have been out of there.
- 16:40He got a life and hit the free run homer into the Yankee bullpen.
- 16:55So Maddow comes up with his 12th home run of the year and he now has 30 runs batted in.
- 17:02The Yankees lead three to nothing and here's Yogi Berra batting three oh nine.
- 17:06Four doubles, five homers and 18 runs batted in.
- 17:17This is Yogi's foul tipped back strike one.
- 17:26Funny about Mickey, he looked there swinging up two pitches and missing even the foul tipped and then he hits one nine miles.
- 17:33Yogi hits one to right center field.
- 17:36Going back is Jensen in the center fielder and the center fielder, Geiger makes a one handed catch against the Red Sox bullpen wall.
- 17:45It didn't look like that ball was going to travel that far but Geiger at the last second leap caught it one handed and then just brushed lightly against the wall in front of the Red Sox bullpen.
- 17:56So it's two outs.
- 17:58And here's Bill Scarron.
- 18:01He's batting two eighty two seven doubles one triple six homers and twenty five runs batted in.
- 18:07Three nothing the Yankees lead top of the first.
- 18:10Hanley Fitch is outside ball one.
- 18:23Fastball is low ball two.
- 18:38Two nothing Fitch is high ball three three and nothing.
- 18:58Strike call three and one the count on Scarron on deck is Johnny Blanchard.
- 19:10Here's the wind up by Connelly.
- 19:12Fitch is a swing in the line drive.
- 19:13They hit two left center field and Scarron's on with a solid single as the Yankees have gotten to Connelly here in the first inning.
- 19:25Hit number four off Connelly and it'll bring up Johnny Blanchard.
- 19:30Blanchard batting two twenty two one double three homers and seven runs batted in.
- 19:41Two outs.
- 19:51That's why Connelly hits the Blanchard is a curve outside ball one.
- 20:07Blanchard pops one to short left center field the shortstop button moving back and makes the catch with his back to the infield.
- 20:16So for the Yankees in the top of the first inning three runs on four base hits no Red Sox errors.
- 20:23One man left the score at the end of one half inning the Yankees three and the Red Sox coming to bat.
- 20:29For pleasure driving that is a pleasure.
- 20:32You need something more than a freshly washed car on a bright sunny day.
- 20:36For one thing you need to be sure that your carburetor is clean to do its job at peak efficiency.
- 20:42And that's why more and more motorists from New England to Florida have started to use Atlantic Imperial gasoline regularly.
- 20:49This quality gasoline cleans your carburetor as you drive and keeps it clean.
- 20:55You see Atlantic Imperial removes the harmful deposits of dirt that get past your engines air cleaner and build up on the lower walls of your carburetor.
- 21:03These deposits can cause rough idling stalling and gasoline waste.
- 21:08But once you've used Atlantic Imperial for a while you'll feel the difference.
- 21:13And as long as you use it Atlantic Imperial will keep new deposits from forming in your carburetor.
- 21:19See your Atlantic dealer soon.
- 21:21Use Atlantic Imperial the gasoline that cleans your carburetor as you drive and keeps it clean.
- 21:33Ralph Terry is out on the mound for the New York Yankees. Terry has won two and lost none this year and he's one and all against the Red Sox.
- 21:40Lifetime against Boston 10 wins and five defeats.
- 21:43This is Terry's ninth appearance of the year and his eighth is a starter.
- 21:47The Yankees have won five of the games that Terry has started.
- 22:00Chuck Schilling batting 233 stepping in at about his box leading off to the Red Sox has seven doubles one homer and 17 runs batted in.
- 22:11Yankees three and the Red Sox nothing. This is the first inning.
- 22:20Terry first pitch is right over strike one call.
- 22:35Schilling bats him right handed.
- 22:40Curve is low ball one one one.
- 22:44Terry is six three and one hundred ninety pound. He looks small compared to that Conley out on the mound.
- 22:54One one pitch curve ball hit on the ground foul outside of third Billy Herman knocks it down.
- 23:00Couldn't hold on with the third base coach for the Red Sox Rudy York is coaching over at first.
- 23:06Couple of pretty good hitters in their day.
- 23:14Herman one of the best hit and run men ever in baseball in Europe one of the big powerhead.
- 23:19Curve is outside low ball two two and two.
- 23:30Terry pitching with factically and no wind up delivery.
- 23:38The two true pitch hit in front of the plate and bounces back to the screen ball three three and two.
- 23:51Field and beautiful condition here at Fenway Park.
- 24:01Ready now for the payoff pitch to Schilling.
- 24:05He swings and lines it foul down the left field line back into the seat.
- 24:17Holds it three and two.
- 24:27Yogi bears in left field for the Yankees defensively.
- 24:32The pitch is a ground ball in the hole.
- 24:34Richardson was left his upper that is throw is in time on a beautiful play by Richardson and Scar.
- 24:42Bobby went back on the edge of the outfield grass picked it up had a throw off balance and threw it in the dirt and scarring backhanded scooped it out of the dirt.
- 24:50Just did nip Chuck Schilling.
- 24:55Richardson has more than made up in his feeling and defensive play and his low average shows as far as batting goes.
- 25:04Here's Gary Geiger batting to 13 for doubles a triple for homers and eight runs batted in.
- 25:11He's a man hitting center fielder.
- 25:15The curve is inside ball one a guy on deck that works three nothing the Yankees are leading last half of the first inning.
- 25:27The one nothing pitch is popped in the air.
- 25:29Boy are the third baseman moving back under it.
- 25:31He's in fair territory and makes the catch for the second out.
- 25:37He's a man who's in the way and here's Rick word.
- 25:49We're spanning to sixty seven five doubles three homers and twelve runs batted in.
- 25:57Hit it with an open stand big powerful man takes a pitch high ball one.
- 26:14Fastball high outside ball to Johnny Blanchard rifles the ball back to Terry.
- 26:24The ball goes to the rosin bag on deck is Jackie Jensen.
- 26:29The outfield deep metal deep and shading in right center a little bit for it.
- 26:34Fastball is lined up left center field Yogi going back and it's over his head bouncing off the wall.
- 26:39We're around first digging for second and he'll be in with a stand up double.
- 26:48So Rick word with mantle playing in right center at a solid line giant left and a one half off the wall and comes up with a sixth double of the year.
- 27:00Jackie Jensen and batting to ten has three doubles for homers and twelve runs batted in.
- 27:07Jackie has two of his four homers against the Yankees and both of them are quite a four.
- 27:14They're out.
- 27:24Harry said that's the Jensen is high ball one.
- 27:28They have painted the walls olive green this year instead of the light green and it really is pretty.
- 27:35The left field wall runs from the left field far line almost straight across the center field.
- 27:40One reason why right hand hitters love to hit in this spot curve is over strike one one on one on deck Frank Malzone
- 27:52Blanchard out to the mount and talk with Terry Jensen steps back to have a little chat with Bob Stewart the plate on fire.
- 28:16Rick works leading off second base Harry stretches fastball is low ball to two more.
- 28:40He's played a red sox again tomorrow night and then on Thursday afternoon.
- 28:47We're going out to Chicago for three game series Friday night Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
- 28:56Harry said touches in their strike to two and two two balls two strikes and two out.
- 29:21Harry leans over and checks the sign from Blanchard works with a good size leadoff second and Jensen asked for time and steps out of the box.
- 29:31Harry taking a little too long getting the sign.
- 29:40I not very fit very far back out of play.
- 29:54Jensen doing a lot of work around that batter's box two balls two strikes on Jen.
- 30:13Very ready curve low and it's a full count three and two Blanchard having a little trouble picking up the ball or worse does not advance when the crowd gets on Johnny.
- 30:29Three balls two strikes two off the Yankees three the Red Sox nothing bottom of the first inning.
- 30:47Now we're ready for the payoff pitch.
- 30:49Here's the stretch.
- 30:51It is like three.
- 30:59Jackie was curved on a three to pitch and caught looking for the Red Sox in the bottom of the first no run one hit no Yankee errors one man left the score at the end of one full inning.
- 31:10The Yankees three and the Red Sox nothing and we pause for station identification. You are in tune with quality modern radio 1460 on your dial. This is W.O.K.O. Albany New York W.O.K.O. time 26 and a half minutes past two.
- 31:30On the scoreboard in the American League Los Angeles at Washington it's 1 1 at the end of two Garver against Hobart early April home in the second with nobody on for L.A. Minnesota Cleveland for a pair in the first game at the end of three.
- 31:42Minnesota to the Indians nothing Pasquale against Hawkins Baltimore that Chicago for two the first game just getting underway at Barbara against your Kansas City at Detroit and a doubleheader Archer against Mosse in the first game in the National League Cincinnati at San Francisco playing two games at the end of two and a half innings.
- 31:59It's Cincinnati three the Giants nothing Maloney for Cincinnati Jones started Fisher in the third pension home in the first with nobody on and Maloney helping his own cause in the third with a man on St. Louis is at Los Angeles for a single game Milwaukee at Philadelphia for a pair in the first game it's nothing nothing at the end of two and a half Buell against Ferris Chicago at Pittsburgh for two and at the end of five innings all tied up one one Ellsworth against myself Andre Rogers home in the fourth for the Cubs with nobody on.
- 32:28Bobby Richardson leads off the Yankees here in the top of the second Bobby batting to 0 5 as one triple and 10 RBI Conley's pitch to Richardson inside ball one Bobby by the way has resigned as Yankee player representative and he's going to be replaced by our
- 32:48is alternate who'll serve until the players hold their election Bobby felt that the position was too time consuming with his family up there as a drive to deep right center field and going over and makes the running catch and deep right center that ball just seemed to hang up there it was in the hole and went a long way from right field but he caught it one away.
- 33:05brings up Ralph Terry Terry batting three thirty three five to fifteen one double one RBI.
- 33:21Terry batting three thirty three five to fifteen one double one RBI.
- 33:37Nobody on.
- 33:52That's the Terry is in there strike one call.
- 34:07Foul back in the seats and out of place like to
- 34:24nothing into one Terry is kindly said it's a ground ball to the shortstop button and up with it throw the Vick words in time to get Ralph it's two way.
- 34:37It'll bring up Cleve Boyer who opened the ballgame with a single left field and score along with Maris on mantle's 12th home of the year in the first inning.
- 34:50Boyer taking plenty of time giving Terry a little more time to get into the bench and rest a little before you have to get back out on the mound to pitch.
- 35:04You are nobody on.
- 35:08Conley's pitch the boy is in there strike one call Yankees last night added another bonus player to their minor league system.
- 35:15He's a left hand hitting 16 year old catcher.
- 35:25Boy it takes a pitch low one on one.
- 35:3018 years old I said 16 but he's 18 years old.
- 35:39The one one pitch low outside ball to two months.
- 35:58The pitch is a ground ball pass the pitcher to shortstop near second up with a throw to first Justin time to get boy.
- 36:05That was a fine play by Don Button on a ball that was hit off the end of the bat.
- 36:10And which finally misjudged the speed and button had to come up fast with it for the Yankees in the top of the second nothing across the score at the end of an inning and a half New York three and the Red Sox nothing.
- 36:26You know something new has been added to the do it yourself list.
- 36:29Yes now you can claim the carburetor of your car remove dirt in the vital throttle plate area without even raising the hood.
- 36:37How just use Atlantic Imperial regularly you see dirt deposits build up on the lower walls of most carburetors in time.
- 36:45These deposits can affect the action of the throttle plate and cause it to feed the wrong mixture of air and gasoline to your engine.
- 36:52Now this results in rough idling frequent stalling and actual gasoline waste.
- 36:57But after a few thousand miles of driving with Atlantic Imperial gasoline this carburetor dirt will be gone washed harmlessly away.
- 37:06And for as long as you use Atlantic Imperial you need not worry about new deposits forming.
- 37:12That's why more and more people these days are using Atlantic Imperial.
- 37:17It's the quality gasoline that cleans your carburetor as you drive and keeps it clean.
- 37:26Frank Malzone leads off with the Red Sox in the bottom of the second.
- 37:30Frank just can't seem to get going.
- 37:33Here's a fellow has a batting average close to 300 lifetime wise that is in the American League.
- 37:38And right now he's batting 141 has one double two homers and six RBI.
- 37:45He's too good a ball player to be down there.
- 37:48Three nothing the Yankees lead. Terry pitched to Malzone as low ball one.
- 38:01Next pitch is hit on the ground of the shortstop.
- 38:03Kubek on a big hop is throw to Scarron in time to get Malzone.
- 38:07That's one away.
- 38:12Brings up Jim Pagliarone the catcher batting 261.
- 38:17Big Jim is three doubles three homers and ten runs batted in.
- 38:23Pagliarone credits his catching ability right now to the hard work of Mickey Owen when he was with the Red Sox.
- 38:31Mickey worked with him every day every day.
- 38:38Pitch to the right hand hitting catcher is in there strike one called.
- 38:46Bill Dickey helped Yogi Barrow quite a bit when Yogi first came to the Yankees.
- 38:51When you get that good coaching and training it pays off.
- 38:55Curve inside one on one.
- 39:06One out nobody on Yankees leading three nothing bottom of the second.
- 39:13Pitch is outside ball two.
- 39:16Man I can't wait for that hot weather to get here.
- 39:20Around August we'll probably be looking for some cool weather but this weather has been ridiculous.
- 39:27The pitch is low ball three three and one.
- 39:31Now the clouds are getting blacker out there.
- 39:36The wind is getting colder.
- 39:45Three and one on Jim Pagliarone.
- 39:53Harry's pitch is in there strike two called three and two.
- 40:07Full count.
- 40:09The payoff pitch.
- 40:11Drag deep to left field that ball is going to be off the wall.
- 40:14Yogi plays it off the wall on one hop and Pagliarone is held to a long single.
- 40:18As Barrow played that wall out I said Williams out there.
- 40:22Oh splendid splendid play him off a solid line drive.
- 40:26That hit the wall Yogi caught it on one hop and had the ball in the second base just as a big catch around it first.
- 40:33A line single or left.
- 40:37When I was a kid I used to hear games broadcasts from Fenway Park and they'd say a ball hit the wall and he's held to a single I couldn't believe it until I came up here to play.
- 40:49Cal Hardy the left field of the batter hitting two twenty four four doubles a triple and five runs about it in.
- 40:56That's the heart is a curve in there strike one called.
- 41:07On deck is done but in the shortstop.
- 41:10Garron holding first against the Red Sox catcher.
- 41:19Here's a stretch by right ball brought it down.
- 41:22It's a good one that's going to be a base hit.
- 41:24Boy it doesn't even make a play.
- 41:26Beautiful by Cal Hardy.
- 41:30That is one of the best if not the best.
- 41:33But I've seen all year by a right handed batter.
- 41:36He's pulled everybody laid it down and boy it didn't even make it I just picked it up caught him flat footed and that's hit number three off Terry and now the tying runners at the plate.
- 41:46Don button the shortstop batting two forty five six doubles and four runs battered in one way.
- 41:53Yankee's leading three nothing.
- 42:04That's the button like that ball right down the pipe.
- 42:12Party at first.
- 42:14Thank you.
- 42:15Only a second.
- 42:24That's by Terry.
- 42:34When you get those curveballs in the dirt.
- 42:36And I get your body and of course you have a lot of gear on a protector the chest protector machine guards in the math.
- 42:45A ballplay is calling the tools of ignorance jokingly because if you're a good catcher you can get to the big leagues faster than any other position.
- 42:55That's inside ball to two and one.
- 43:06Gene Conley due to be the next batter is a pretty good hitting pitcher.
- 43:15First and second Harry said to one pitch curve high ball three three and one.
- 43:32Harry changes the rosin bag and moves that rosin bag around like it's diamonds or something.
- 43:38But to the very gently move it from the right side of the rubber to the left side.
- 43:43Three balls one strike and one out.
- 43:46Runners at first and second.
- 43:49That is a curve in their strike two and it's a full count. So Terry Currimont a three one pitch.
- 44:03Once again we have a full count on the Red Sox batter.
- 44:15Is Terry stretch fastball foul back up on the roof out of play.
- 44:20Ralph try to sneak the fast one by him hoping that button was looking for the curve.
- 44:26Not a good idea to guess with two strikes on it because if you're looking for the curve and they throw the fastball you can't get around.
- 44:41And Terry ready for the three to pick fastball popped in the air.
- 44:46The infield fly rule is called button is automatically out.
- 44:49Richardson makes the catch at second base and it's two away.
- 44:54Here comes Gene Conley.
- 44:58Only has one base hit this year that one against the Yankees and it was a double.
- 45:02He is driven in one run.
- 45:04Two out two on Yankees lead three nothing in the bottom of the second.
- 45:20A plane flying around above us with a big banner in back of it advertising WEI which is a CBS affiliate up here in Boston.
- 45:35I think Gene Conley steps into the batter's box. The bat looks like a toothpick in his hands. He's so big.
- 45:47Terry said that's the Conley is fouled back on the screen and out of play.
- 46:06How hard he at first Jim Tagliaroni is at second with two outs.
- 46:22Terry ready.
- 46:26Curve is fouled off the left of the plate strike two.
- 46:44Nothing until on the big right hand hitting pitcher for the Red Sox. Gene Conley.
- 47:02Terry taking a lot of time getting the signal.
- 47:05Now he's ready. Here's a stretch. It is bad that I think if it didn't hit his bat it would have hit Conley. It was in on him would have hit him right on the chest and he swung that bat self defense.
- 47:17A fastball coming right in towards his chest.
- 47:22He just got his bat out there and deflected it off into the stands for the right of the plate.
- 47:39Terry ready. Ground ball hits a short. Kubek coming in up with it. He's throw to first base in time to get Conley and he can move down that line for a big color.
- 47:54The Yankees three and the Red Sox nothing.
- 48:00Now that we're approaching the boating and lawn mowing season remember Atlantic outboard motor oil keeps your engine running clean and smooth views Atlantic outboard motor oil.
- 48:13Quick look at the scoreboard Washington one Los Angeles one at the end of two and a half. Minnesota to Cleveland nothing at the end of four and a half.
- 48:22Baltimore Chicago hasn't started Kansas City scored one on the top of the first playing Detroit a doubleheader.
- 48:27Cincinnati leads San Francisco. Four to nothing at the end of three and a half innings.
- 48:34St. Louis that L.A. has not started.
- 48:37Milwaukee and Philadelphia nothing nothing at the end of four and Chicago at Pittsburgh one one at the end of six innings.
- 48:52Don't forget fans the Yankee Stadium advanced ticket office is open today until five p.m. and tickets for all future Yankee games will be available.
- 49:01The Grand Central ticket office will not be open today.
- 49:05After this week's road trip to Boston and Chicago the Yankees return to the stadium for 11 games on eight dates early in June.
- 49:12The big week opens the season first twine I doubleheader on Monday June the fifth with the slugging Minnesota Twins featuring Armand Killibrew Bob Allison Jim Lemon and Earl Batty.
- 49:21And of course the pitch is Camilo Pasquale and Pedro Ramos.

- 49:31The twine nighter starts at six p.m. so make your plans now to attend a perfect date night as the school year draws to a close.
- 49:40Why does that always make kids happy when the school year draws to a close.
- 49:46You know I guess I was always happy when it was over.
- 49:52I had Tony Kubek who struck out in the first inning leading off against Gene Conley here in the top of the third.
- 50:02Pitch to Kubek is fouled back out of play one strike on Tony one strike pitch is hit high in the air to right field Jackie Jensen is moving back under it and is there to take the catch in front of the Yankee both and one away.
- 50:31Here's Roger Maris who lined the single right center field in the first inning and on deck Mickey Maddow.
- 50:58That's the Maris is a ground foul outside of first like one.
- 51:19The wind up by Conley and the pitch is now he checked the swing Bob Stewart started to put the right hand up and draw it back quickly.
- 51:28Maris started a swing held up one on one on Rod Conley curve is hit deep to right field Jensen going back way back and the ball is in the seat for a home run for Roger Maris and that was a line drive.
- 51:47He's been to the right field seat which gives the Yankees now a four to nothing lead and for Maris is 10th home run of the year and a 24th run batted in brings up Mickey Mantle hit a three run home in the first inning.
- 52:12That's Mickey's 12th of the year.
- 52:25Over Mickey's head and back to the screen ball one.
- 52:28Next got a grin on his face.
- 52:30That's all was mighty close.
- 52:34Little extra on that fastball.
- 52:48It's the mantle outside ball to
- 53:01have some action in the Red Sox bullpen.
- 53:04Dave Hillman, the right hander is up.
- 53:08That'll take the curve over strike one two balls one strike.
- 53:19Yankee born the Red Sox nothing.
- 53:21Top of the third.
- 53:35On the concrete as the fans didn't want any part of that high foul.
- 53:43Two and two on metal.
- 53:58I'm least pitches foul set off the chest protector of the catcher Bagley running.
- 54:05Remember the first time that was up to strike on a man just did a pitch and Bagley only had in his glove and dropped it on the next pitch.
- 54:16Mantle hit a home.
- 54:44Now the payoff pitch to Mickey.
- 54:47He's like three.
- 54:48He was a bad pitch and Mickey trying to check his swing couldn't do it.
- 54:52The curve actually hit in the dirt.
- 54:55Second strikeout for Connelly at two away and his Yogi Barrow who slides deep to right center field in the first inning.
- 55:06Nobody on.
- 55:21Connelly's that the Yogi is in there strike one call.
- 55:37I've hit on the ground to the second base and Schilling is up with it goes to worse and time for the out.
- 55:44Yankees pick up another run thanks to the homer by Maris one run on one hit.
- 55:48No red sox there is nobody left the score at the end of two and a half innings the Yankees poor and the Red Sox nothing.
- 55:57Here is the gasoline story of the year.
- 56:00Now you can test Atlantic Imperial in your own car without risking an extra penny.
- 56:05The people at Atlantic make this unusual offer because they're confident you like the difference this fine gasoline will make in the performance of your car.

- 56:27The difference in cost between 100 gallons of Atlantic Imperial and the same amount of regular gasoline will be refunded and no questions asked.
- 56:36You like the difference or Atlantic will pay the difference.
- 56:40Make Atlantic clean carburetor test discover for yourself how Atlantic Imperial gasoline cleans your carburetor as you drive and keeps it clean.
- 57:00In the bottom of the third inning it'll be the top of the Red Sox batting order Schilling Geiger and Wirtz to face her out there.
- 57:07Schilling bounce the second base in the first inning.
- 57:10Bobby Richardson making a fine play along with a nice scoop up of a low throw by Skaran.
- 57:18Yankee defense in the infield has been tremendous this year.
- 57:23Even though the pitching has not been up to par the double plays and the fine feeling of the infielders helped the Yankees tremendously Schilling swings and misses a curve strike one.
- 57:34Schilling from Brooklyn New York.
- 57:45The foul chip off the umpire just protect and the ball bounces all the way down to first base picked up by Rudy York.
- 57:51Nothing into on Schilling.
- 58:10Here's the two strike pitch curve hit on the ground a third foul.
- 58:15Boy is charging the ball had the ball go under his glove and he kicked it with his foot to the shortstop Kubek but it was foul.
- 58:27Nothing into on Schilling.
- 58:47Short wind up curve foul down the first base line.
- 58:58Ralph not wasting any pitches on Schilling.
- 59:01Nothing into count.
- 59:06Ball and back of his head that time ball one Schilling hit the dirt.
- 59:18Now the one ball two strike pitch curve is high ball to two and two.
- 59:24Maris playing very shallow in right field.
- 59:31It's a tough right field to play here at Fenway it's a lot like Yankee Stadium's left field including the sun.
- 59:39The two to pitch a lot of playing back of first.
- 59:48Oh man they were battling for that ball and the kid went right over the railing.
- 59:55Nobody gets hurt.
- 59:59Pitch is high ball three and it's another full count.
- 1:00:05Three and two on Schilling.
- 1:00:07Yankees four Red Sox nothing bottom of the third.
- 1:00:14Here's the payoff that foul hit back.
- 1:00:28Again the three to say he lost some ball for that's the first man Terry has walked.
- 1:00:37But he's had three to count on about six hitters.
- 1:00:42First walk given up by either pitcher and it brings up Gary Geiger who popped up to boyer at third base in the first inning.
- 1:00:51Karen holds the bag again feeling.
- 1:01:05Mr. Geiger is in there strike one call.
- 1:01:08I go is enjoying his best year in the big leagues last year if you remember.
- 1:01:13He came up with a collapsed lung and it was feared his baseball career was ended but he had snapped back out of fine spring training but he's a little slow and getting off him in the game batting to 13 as for home is a
- 1:01:29pitch to Geiger is popped to left field.
- 1:01:33Yogi coming over and in and he can't get it.
- 1:01:35It's a fair ball and going to third is going to second is Geiger.
- 1:01:43Over left center field for Geiger and he had a little twisting fly down the left field line.
- 1:01:48It looked like it was going to curve foul.
- 1:01:50Yogi couldn't get to it either.
- 1:01:51Good to back it hit on the dirt part of the field and then kicked against the wall running along the left field foul line.
- 1:01:59It's a double for Geiger hit number four off Terry and now there are runners at second and third with nobody out in the bat of it worse worse rips a double a left center field in the first inning.
- 1:02:14Let's say hitting first base pitch to where it's curveball is high ball one wind up by Terry pitches I'll sit back strike one one of one.
- 1:02:41Bill Stafford is getting up in the Yankee bullpen right hander Bill Stafford loosening up one ball one strike on worth Geiger leads off second killing off third pitches high ball to two and one.
- 1:03:08That was Geiger's fifth double of the year by the way.
- 1:03:14It is right off the end of his back on deck is Jackie Jensen.
- 1:03:28Here's the wind up pitches high ball three almost a wild pitch at length and had a lunge to his left and go high for it.
- 1:03:35Just got in the webbing of his glove one handed three and one on Ralph rather on the work as Ralph Terry suddenly getting a little wild here in the bottom of the third inning.
- 1:03:48Now Ralph asked for a new baseball.
- 1:03:55Nobody out.
- 1:04:08Here's a 3 1 pitch to work all back on the.
- 1:04:32Terry checking the time from Blanchard runners lead off second and third ready for the payoff pitch to the inside ball for the bases are loaded.
- 1:04:46Second walk given up by Terry is worth his down the first and his Jackie Jensen up with three men on and nobody out the Yankees leading four to nothing.
- 1:04:57Jensen was called out on strike in the first inning went on a three to pitch.
- 1:05:02He took a curve ball a ball strike three on deck as Frank Malzah.
- 1:05:22All right the bases full of red sox to wind up by Terry the pitch the Jensen is low outside for one.
- 1:05:31No staff and heat nothing to hurry out there.
- 1:05:36Now outstanding on the step for the Yankee dugout.
- 1:05:41Curve is high ball to do enough to be working a little faster whenever he gets in a jam he seems to work faster now Blanchard runs out to the mound he'll try and slow him down a little bit.
- 1:05:53Terry seems to lose his rhythm when he works that works at first Geiger at second shilling at third with nobody on the bottom of the third the Yankees leading by four runs for nothing.
- 1:06:22Two balls no strikes on Jackie Jensen.
- 1:06:28Here's the windup.
- 1:06:30That's just low outside almost a wild pitch backhanded by Blanchard at the three nothing count.
- 1:06:36Terry has suddenly lost home plate here in the bottom of the third.
- 1:06:52The three nothing pitch right for three and one.
- 1:07:07Jensen digging into the plate.
- 1:07:12Harry takes off one time I always enter the wind up.
- 1:07:16The pitch is found on the right field line going out of play back up on the roof as a matter of fact.
- 1:07:24And again a full count on Jensen Jackie wants to rise and beg from Frank Malzone was on deck.
- 1:07:42Jensen who is a great athlete in college.
- 1:07:46He's had a fine career in the American League.
- 1:07:54Three and two bases loaded nobody out.
- 1:07:59Here's a payoff.
- 1:08:00He hit the deep.
- 1:08:16And here comes Ralph House.
- 1:08:21Jackie Jensen ripped the double off the left field wall driving into run.
- 1:08:26That ball was not quite high enough to have been a home run he really tagged it.
- 1:08:30And Yogi went back and this time he didn't play the ball off the wall it came back over his head.
- 1:08:36Two runs scored worse went to third Jensen is his second.
- 1:08:40And it's now a four to two ballgame in favor of the Yankees but there's nobody out.
- 1:08:44Here in the bottom of the third and Ralph House has signals for Bill Stafford to come in.
- 1:08:49Now while staff is taking the long walk will pause for station identification.
- 1:08:53This is W.O.K.O. all but a good sound broadcasting for 1961 reminding you drivers patience pays especially at curves hills and intersections.
- 1:09:02Drive carefully today and every day.
- 1:09:11So that's all for Ralph Terry.
- 1:09:13Oh at pitch two scoreless innings even though he was in trouble in both innings.
- 1:09:18And here in the third didn't get anybody out he walked to gave up two doubles two runs of scored and Terry is out of the ballgame.
- 1:09:25Ralph cannot be the losing pitcher and that's the kind of year it's been for Terry.
- 1:09:30He has been knocked out of quite a few ballgames but fortunately for Ralph and the Yankees the Yankees have been able to come back tie him up and go on to win most of them.
- 1:09:42Bill Stafford coming on had an excellent relief appearance the last time he pitched for the Yankees he's making his 11th appearance of the year.
- 1:09:51Stafford has one run and lost two.
- 1:09:56The last time out he pitched three and two thirds innings gave up one unearned run.
- 1:10:01Stafford will be pitching a Frank Malzone Jim Pagliarone and Carol Hardy with Jensen at second and Wirtz at third.
- 1:10:07Nobody out in the bottom of the third and the Yankees leading four to two.
- 1:10:11All the Yankee runs came as a result of home as a three run homer by Mantle in the first inning and a solo homer by Marison the third.
- 1:10:20Jensen starting to pick up now.
- 1:10:21You remember Jensen had a slow start and then suddenly decided he was going to quit baseball didn't want to be the 25th man on the club.
- 1:10:28You can appreciate Jackie's feeling.
- 1:10:30We told you he was a great athlete in college and a great athlete in professional baseball and was a big gun for the Red Sox when he decided to retire for a year.
- 1:10:40That was all last season.
- 1:10:41He came back and thought that his timing had left him and was ready to quit went home to talk with his lovely wife.
- 1:10:50Zoan Olsen who was an Olympic diving champion for the Yankees and then Jensen decided to return and now he's picking up and hitting like the Jensen of all at least against the Yankees.
- 1:11:00He had a good series against New York and New York and now up here in Boston.
- 1:11:03He had two hits last night including a homer and he's had a double here today with the bases loaded driving in two runs.
- 1:11:09Frank Malzone who bounced the short in the second inning the batter the infield back.
- 1:11:14They're giving a run that the ball hit on the ground.
- 1:11:17They're going to play for the batter.
- 1:11:21Unless it's it's a the pitcher of course.
- 1:11:24I built staff at all in the mound in place of Ralph Terry.
- 1:11:27Here's the wind up.
- 1:11:29That's the male zone is high ball one.
- 1:11:36Red Sox have an exciting young team.
- 1:11:39Of course without Williams they don't look the same but no team would without Williams.
- 1:11:46But they've got a future.
- 1:11:48Good young ballplay.
- 1:11:50Now zone a curve over strike one one on one as staff at game side off.
- 1:12:10Here's the wind up by staff.
- 1:12:12Curve outside ball to do one.
- 1:12:16The staff that came over hand that time he can mix up his types of deliveries and speed on the ball.
- 1:12:25Sun shining brightly now and you notice the right side of the Yankee infield and Maris shading their eyes looking up at the sun flipping their glasses down in case.
- 1:12:34It's the mouse on inside ball three three and one.
- 1:12:42Now John looks down at the third base coach Billy Herman.
- 1:12:47Three one count on Frank.
- 1:12:58The pitch is hit in the air to right field not too deep Maris is under it worth his tagging Maris makes the catch it comes right here comes Maris throw and he slides and he's in there and going to third is Jackie Jensen.
- 1:13:13On the sacrifice fly even though Maris made a good throw worse slides across safely and RBI from our zone Jensen tagging up once the third.
- 1:13:22So it's now a four to three ballgame.
- 1:13:26The tying run is the third base with one out in the batter is Jim Pagliarone who lined a single off the left field wall.
- 1:13:34Now the infield is in half way not all the way in but halfway.
- 1:13:38They've still got a shot at Jensen at the plate of a ground ball is hit one way for three ballgame.
- 1:13:48That's it. Pitch the Pagliarone in their strike one call.
- 1:14:06It's just low ball one one one on deck is Carol Hardy.
- 1:14:22Here's staff at another wind up curve low outside ball to come up for the Yankee starting pictures pictures with the exception of why before I have not had very good luck this year.
- 1:14:36Just have not been pitching well.
- 1:14:44Here's a two one pitch curve over strike to Pagliarone started to swing held up the ball broke over the plate to and to one away.
- 1:14:55Jensen at third.
- 1:15:01That's it. Ready. Side on curve low outside of the full count that the trip to the little delivered that bit look back at the mound. You'll do a little kicking out there now.
- 1:15:14Especially with Conley out there he can really foul up a pitching mound with that big stride he takes.
- 1:15:23Full count on Jim Pagliarone Jensen leading off third is the wind up by staff. Pitches hit on the ground a short go back is up with a chance and holds it there at the throw to first in time and the infield playing halfway.
- 1:15:37Jensen didn't have a chance. So it's two away and here's Don Budden rather Carol Hardy who beat out a bunch single in the second inning.
- 1:15:45Jensen is on deck. That was a big out for Bill Stafford and the Yankees. Two out now on the tying run of third.
- 1:16:07Well just as staff it was ready to pitch button rather Carol Hardy got something in his eyes at the back played on by a Bob Stewart giving him a hand.
- 1:16:20This is a ground ball hit down a fair baseline boy and he lets it roll and it goes.
- 1:16:25There was a play that boy but not have thrown Hardy out on as he hit a high chopper off the home plate.
- 1:16:30It rolled two thirds of the way right on the far line and at the last second kick ball and boy a bounce down quickly make sure it stayed.
- 1:16:38Jensen would have scored easily and the ball game would have been tied up.
- 1:16:44So it goes as a strike for Hardy.
- 1:17:05The pitch is a curve pop in the short left field Kovac back going back and makes the catch and short left field ball almost dropped in there for a Texas League single.
- 1:17:15So the Red Sox bounce back here in the bottom of the third with three runs on two base hits and a sacrifice fly no Yankee errors and one man left and the score now at the end of three full innings.

- 1:19:10Skaren single a center field in the first inning.
- 1:19:18That's the most is high ball one.
- 1:19:24On deck Johnny Blanchard.
- 1:19:34Skaren takes the pitch I bought to do nothing.
- 1:19:40Don't have it did some fine relief touching that any.
- 1:19:43He knew it was one of them second and third and nobody out.
- 1:19:47He scored one run on a sacrifice fly but he got back Lear only in the hearty.
- 1:19:55The two nothing says is it deep the left field that one is way out of here.
- 1:20:00Back up on the screen another home run for the Yankees and all the Yankee runs that come as a result of all the damage action in the Red Sox bullpen again.
- 1:20:14Bill Skaren getting a second hit of the ballgame and his seventh home of the year is 26 run batted in the Yankees now lead five to three.
- 1:20:27Brings up Johnny Blanchard.
- 1:20:32Dave Hillman the right hander is up in the Red Sox bullpen once again.
- 1:20:38Finally pitch the Blanchard is high ball one.
- 1:20:42You always notice the next batter up after fellow has hit a home run he's a little loose.
- 1:20:47Either take the pitcher is stepping in the bucket.
- 1:20:49Those pitches get mad when you hit a home run they throw a little close to the next batter.
- 1:20:56There's a swing and a ground ball foul outside of first picked up by Vic works one on one on Blanchard.
- 1:21:02Johnny pops to the shortstop in the first inning.
- 1:21:07So the Yankees have had three homers in this game a three run homer by mantle in the first solo homers by Maris and the third and Skaren here leading off the top of the fourth.

- 1:21:55One out and Bobby Richardson who's flying to deep right center field in the second inning the better.
- 1:22:07One out nobody on.
- 1:22:19Mr. Richardson is low ball one.
- 1:22:33Nothing such as a ground ball hit the third foul now don't have backhanded it and was ready to throw one third base on fire.
- 1:22:39Frank you might yell foul ball so now don't save the throw.
- 1:22:44Which is an across first base with close one on one on Bobby.
- 1:23:11Richardson takes the curve low ball to two and one.
- 1:23:25Which is high ball three three and one the count Bill Stafford due to be the next batter.
- 1:23:44Three one pitch is lying at center field coming in fast is Geiger and he makes the catch and boy Richardson is it two on the nose.

- 1:24:01And here's Bill Stafford who's been up three times without a base hit this year.
- 1:24:09Five three the Yankees lead we're in the top of the fourth inning.
- 1:24:26Terry who started for the Yankees can neither be the winning nor losing pitcher in this ballgame.
- 1:24:30The pitch to Stafford is a strike a starting pitcher must go at least five innings to be able to get credit for the win in unless of course in case of an injury.
- 1:24:44There's a foul out of place like to.
- 1:24:48But this game is staffers to win or lose and Jane Connolly was out on the line now for the Red Sox.
- 1:24:55Strike on staffer.
- 1:25:01Curve is over strike three call.

- 1:26:02It cleans your carburetor as you drive and keeps it clean.
- 1:26:20For the Red Sox in the bottom of the fourth inning Don Budden will lead off. Red Sox shortstop Budden popped out to second base in the second inning.
- 1:26:33Bill Stafford out on the mound.
- 1:26:35Ralph Terry went just two innings didn't get anybody out in the third.
- 1:26:39Pitched to Budden inside ball one.
- 1:26:41Terry allowed five hits he walked to struck out one and allowed three runs.
- 1:26:51Stafford's next pitch is pop foul going out of play and back up third.
- 1:27:06Bill Stafford goes back to the rosin bag.
- 1:27:15Here's his wind up. His pitch is a ground ball to the shortstop Kubek up on a big hop throw to Skaren in time that's one away.
- 1:27:28But Conley is going to bat for himself. Conley bounced the short in the second inning.
- 1:27:43There's a long drink of water. Gene Conley coming to the plate.
- 1:27:47The home run ball has hurt him today. The Yankees have three of them.
- 1:27:57Stafford's curve is a strike on the outside corner.
- 1:28:12One strike delivery another curve this one's outside one on one.
- 1:28:26Chuck Schilling on deck. Fastball in there strike two one ball two strikes.
- 1:28:49Sidearm curve almost hit Conley dances back out of the way two and two.
- 1:29:06Now the two two pitch a foul that hit the plate and kicked up and hit Conley's left leg.
- 1:29:30Here's a two two pitch curve inside ball three three and two.
- 1:29:37Stafford pitching a little too carefully to Conley had a full count on him.
- 1:29:45Here's the payoff pitch strike three hold the phone he foul tipped it.
- 1:29:51Conley started to run Blanchard had in his glove it popped up in the air trying to grab it bare handed just missed the ball.
- 1:30:00And Conley's got a life.
- 1:30:16Again the three two delivery I fly to short left center Yogi moving over to his left and Nettle and Nettle makes the catch.
- 1:30:29Two way here's Chuck Schilling bounce the second on the first inning.
- 1:30:33Started the Red Sox rally in the third with a walk.
- 1:30:47Schilling had a chance to sign with the Giants but didn't want to go out to the coast wanted to stay in the East.
- 1:30:53So he signed with the Red Sox the pitch to Schilling is low ball one.
- 1:30:57Actually Chuck worked out with the Yankees at Yankee Stadium not this year of course.
- 1:31:06They had a look at him.
- 1:31:11One nothing pitches line foul look out into the box seats and back of third base.
- 1:31:16Well that's a dangerous place to sit.
- 1:31:18We told you before the fans are closer to action on the ball field here than any other part.
- 1:31:25And that third base section just out towards the foul line.
- 1:31:29Those line fouls and somebody got hit on the arm and they'll take them to the first aid station.
- 1:31:40Curve is low ball two two and one.
- 1:31:55Foul back out of play. Two and two on Schilling.
- 1:32:16Two curve ball is low ball three full count.
- 1:32:20A lot of full counts in this ball game and yet only two base on balls those given up by Ralph Terry.
- 1:32:27Conley has not walked anybody yet.
- 1:32:30The payoff pitch a fly ball to right field Roger Maritz flips the glasses down under it and holds it in for the third out.
- 1:32:38Throw the Red Sox down in order in the bottom of the fourth nothing across and the score at the end of four full innings.
- 1:32:45The Yankees five run six hits no errors the Red Sox three runs five hits and nowhere.

- 1:34:18For the Yankees at the top of their order Boyer Kubek and Maris to face Connolly for the third time.
- 1:34:23Boyer has singled and scored and then bounced.
- 1:34:32Boyer takes the fastball ball one.
- 1:34:47Connolly's next pitch is lined past Malzone in the left field.
- 1:34:51Boyer second hit as Carol Hardy fires the ball into the infield.
- 1:35:01And that's the seventh base hit off Connolly and once again the Red Sox full time goes in action.
- 1:35:14Dave Hillman up for the third time in this ballgame.
- 1:35:20Wirtz holds the bag against Boyer.
- 1:35:22Here's Tony Kubek struck out flying to right.
- 1:35:24The stretch by Connolly the pitch to Kubek is hit high in the air to right field.
- 1:35:28Jensen moving back flips the glasses down he's under it.
- 1:35:31Boyer is tagging. Jensen makes the catch and Boyer bluffs going and Jensen's throw comes in true to second base.
- 1:35:37Cleve was just fluffing drawing a throw and he drew a good one.
- 1:35:42That brings up Roger Maris who singled and scored in the first inning and then homered to right field in the third inning.
- 1:35:52One away.
- 1:36:09Pitch to Maris is a ground ball to second base. Chilling over to Button for one back to first.
- 1:36:14No Wirtz dropped the ball.
- 1:36:21So it's a fourth play. We'll wait and see if Wirtz gets an error or just what it is.
- 1:36:31The ball did not hit the ground as Wirtz tried to backhand it but it came out of his glove.
- 1:36:40There's been no error put on the scoreboard or from the official scorer.
- 1:36:48Here's Mickey Mantle. Mantle homered to drive in three runs in the first inning struck out in the third.
- 1:36:54Here's Mickey is low ball one.
- 1:37:05So it doesn't look like they're going to charge Wirtz with the error.
- 1:37:09Throw is in plenty of time.
- 1:37:12Double Maris. Mantle takes the pitch high. Ball two. Two and nothing.
- 1:37:26Looks like Wirtz brought that ball on his thumb. He keeps taking the left hand out of the glove and shaking it.
- 1:37:32Mickey takes the curve low ball three. Three and nothing.
- 1:37:54Maris leading away. Mickey tried to get out of the way the pitch and hit his bat malzone up with it over to Wirtz for the out.
- 1:38:01On a three nothing pitch Mantle tried to duck out of the way of a high inside fastball and bounced the third.
- 1:38:08For the Yankees in the top of the fifth no runs one hit. No Red Sox errors. One man left.
- 1:38:12The score at the end of four and a half innings. New York five and the Red Sox three.
- 1:38:19Oh dutsy dutsy I go. Oh what a copper this Joe. With a wild looping hook he drives it through a brook.
- 1:38:28And that's how his game always goes it goes. That's how his game always goes. But some consolation is near.
- 1:38:37In a cool glass of Valentine's beer. Yes back at the club he forgets he's a dut. So sunny and mellow it glows it glows.
- 1:38:46So funny and now he knows to be a beer must be actually like with true logger flavor. Recycling right.
- 1:38:58Crystal clear. Crispy. Valentine. Valentine.
- 1:39:08People know quality when they taste it. And that's why over five million glasses of Valentine beer are enjoyed every day.
- 1:39:15Valentine America's finest since 1840. For the Red Sox here in the bottom of the fifth Gary Geiger lead off Geiger.
- 1:39:25Pop the third and double a left field he scored one.
- 1:39:28That's the guy who is low ball one.
- 1:39:45Here is a sports bulletin from the W.O.K. newsroom from Indianapolis national driving champion A.J.
- 1:39:52Foite has won the 500 mile Indianapolis rate. The winner once again A.J. Foite.
- 1:39:59The high pop up to the infield. Cleve Boyer falling for it. Between home plate and the pitches box and Boyer makes the catch for the hour.
- 1:40:10Geiger pops up one away. Here's Vic Wirtz double a left center and walk. He's also a spotter on the Red Sox have been playing good ball as witness.
- 1:40:19They have played 38 ballgames this year. 20 of them have been one run ballgames have been decided by one run.
- 1:40:37The pitch to work is over strike one call.
- 1:40:44Red Sox have won nine of the 21 run games and lost 11.
- 1:40:53Inside one of one of the words.
- 1:41:09One one pitch a ground ball a short Kubeck is up with it near second it throw the first in time to get word and it's two way.
- 1:41:17Here comes Jackie Jensen.
- 1:41:23Jackie called out on strikes in the first inning doubles a left with the bases loaded in the third the drive in two runs.
- 1:41:32Jackie gets the kind of treatment that man will get around the league and at Yankee Stadium even some booze mixed with the cheers.
- 1:41:45To out nobody on five three the Yankees lead Jensen takes a curve over strike one.
- 1:42:01Fastball is inside one of one.
- 1:42:21Fastball hit on the ground Richard Juneau is left is up with it. So is the scour and in time for the out.
- 1:42:28Here is more from that bulletin from the WOK newsroom in second place in the 500 mile Indianapolis race.
- 1:42:34Eddie Saks second place and third place Roger Ward again the first place winner AJ Foite won the 500 mile Indianapolis race.
- 1:42:42This has been a bulletin from the WOK newsroom.
- 1:42:55Pretty soon the Yankees are going to take off on their longest road trip of the season.
- 1:43:01They return to the stadium against the new Washington Senators on Friday night June 30th.
- 1:43:07That's the holiday weekend that weekend will be featured by a fourth of July doubleheader at home between the Yankees and the amazing front running Detroit Tigers.
- 1:43:14Tickets for this big attraction are moving well. They better order yours as soon as possible.
- 1:43:19And don't forget old time as they sat there afternoon July the 29th Baltimore's red hot Orioles against the Yankees following the greatest old time as program ever.
- 1:43:29This year we feature the all time Yankees all time Dodgers from Brooklyn days and the all time New York Giants.
- 1:43:35Here's one of that old time fans and the new ones to want to miss the order old time as tickets now while good choice of seats are available.
- 1:43:48Yogi Berra who's over to today flying to center and bounce the second leads off in New York here in the top of the six.
- 1:43:57It'll be better scouring and blanching.
- 1:44:14Gene Conley out of the mound.
- 1:44:19Big right handers pitch the yogi is hit to right field Jackie Johnson going back way back in that ball is in the deep for a home run.
- 1:44:27All the Yankee runs have come as a result of homers.
- 1:44:31Yogi hit the first pitcher curve ball into the right field.
- 1:44:37Hit number eight or family run number six for the Yankees and for better is six home of the year and his 19th run batted in Rick words call time and goes over to the mound and talk with Conley as once again we have action in the Red Sox both.
- 1:44:53And Dave Hillman is up again for the fourth time in this ballgame.
- 1:44:57So Conley is serving up the home run pitch today that he and he.
- 1:45:04And words are stalling out of the mouth down magna the pitching coach is ready to come out and here comes down now out of the Red Sox dugout.
- 1:45:12And that's it.
- 1:45:16Second base umpire Joel in Salado running out to the bullpen waving in Dave Hillman.
- 1:45:32And rather changing pitches here as a result of the Indianapolis 500 mile speedway race.
- 1:45:38AJ point from Houston Texas is the winner and Eddie Sacks is second.
- 1:45:43That was a big upset.
- 1:45:48ruling grind out in Indianapolis 500 mile race.
- 1:45:55You deserve that boy even if you finish you deserve something in that race.
- 1:45:59So Conley is out of there.
- 1:46:02Conley has picked five innings.
- 1:46:05He's allowed a basis.
- 1:46:08Didn't walk anybody struck out three and has allowed six runs.
- 1:46:13But Conley has given up for home runs one to metal in the first inning with two on and then solo homers to Maris Garan and Vera.
- 1:46:23So it looks like Ralph Halk had the right punch when he said he would play all of his left handed power instead of going to the right handed hitters in the short left field fence.
- 1:46:34And the left hand hitters have come through with a little added help from some of the right hand hitters like Boyer and scarring.
- 1:46:42Garan has a single in a home run and he'll be the first batter to face Dave Hillman.
- 1:46:56Hillman is 511 only weighs 168 pounds.
- 1:47:02Now living in Kingsport Tennessee.
- 1:47:06Last year one none lost three with the Red Sox.
- 1:47:14Hillman is making his 12th appearance of the year.
- 1:47:18All of them in relief.
- 1:47:20He is one two and lost one as an earned run average of one point six so so he's having a fine year.
- 1:47:38Garan watching Hillman loosen up from just outside the batter's box.
- 1:47:51All right now the moose is ready steps into the batter's box on deck is Johnny Blanchard.
- 1:48:01Six three the Yankees lead.
- 1:48:15Hillman's pitch to scarring is a curve outside ball one.
- 1:48:33Wind up and the fastball is pop style coming out of play back into the deep.
- 1:48:47One one on Moose curveball hit deep to right center field way back there.
- 1:49:07Jensen digging it into the ball for a home run.
- 1:49:17And into the Red Sox bullpen.
- 1:49:21Garan second home of the day and his third hit.
- 1:49:25The Yankees really have a home run going today.
- 1:49:29Moose the second RBI and the Yankees lead seven to three.
- 1:49:34What a shot that was that was more of a line drive and it started to curve away.
- 1:49:39It looked like Jensen might have a shot at it.
- 1:49:42But at the last second it just zoomed right over the fence and into the Red Sox bullpen.
- 1:49:47So Moose is it to home it today is seventh and eighth gives him twenty seven RBI.
- 1:49:53And here's Johnny Blanchard.
- 1:49:54Blanchard popped the short bounce the second.
- 1:49:58Five home runs for the Yankees in the ballgame. That's the Johnny is low ball one.
- 1:50:06Garan Tomahawk that ball looked like it was up around his eyes.
- 1:50:10He looked like a tennis player serving the ball.
- 1:50:18Curve low ball two to another.
- 1:50:35Here's a wind up by Hellman. This is on the outside corner for a call strike.
- 1:50:45Nobody out here in the top of the six back to back home is by Baron Garan open the inning.
- 1:50:52Blanchard fouls the pitch back on the screen.
- 1:51:17Two two pitches fouls that just got a piece of the count holds it to and to.
- 1:51:44Hellman's curve is swung at a missed strike three as he took a little bit off the pitch.
- 1:51:50His first strike out brings up Bobby Richardson Bobby line to right center and line to center.
- 1:51:56It's a ball hard twice without a base hit.
- 1:52:14Bobby takes a curve on the outside corner like one.
- 1:52:29Another curve this one low one on one.
- 1:52:44Down curve over strike two one ball to strike.
- 1:53:04Here's a wind up by Hellman one one curve hit on the ground up the middle and back a second and button has a close the first not in time he beat it out a fine play by button.
- 1:53:15But he couldn't get anything on the floor as he feels the ball actually on the second base side of the bag going from short over towards second and infield single for Richardson.
- 1:53:25Here's a wind up by Hellman in the 10th hit for the Yankees in the ballgame and it brings up Bill Staffin who replaced Ralph Perry and happened in his one appearance was called out on strike.
- 1:53:48One away.
- 1:53:50Strike three first half of the sixth inning.
- 1:53:55Red Sox infield looking for the sacrifice quick sort of first Richardson back.
- 1:54:08That's my helmet.
- 1:54:26The ball is bonded down the first base line and it goes far picked up by Hellman.
- 1:54:42The second base line is a little bit of a stretch.
- 1:55:02Richardson leading away and the sort of first he's back just in time looks like Bobby had ideas that time about going.
- 1:55:11Here's the stretch.
- 1:55:13And there he goes and the ball is filed back they have a hit and run on with that and Bobby had a good jump and stuff and had a good cut but he filed it back.
- 1:55:23Nothing in two.
- 1:55:41Hellman said curve is hit between first and second but killing comes up both the first 40 hours. There's a ball that's reversed English in favor of the Red Sox second base and I staff it hit one off the end of his bad it looked like it was going to kick away from
- 1:55:58why it takes back the other way I don't know but feeling made a fine play as he caught it wheeled around and fired to work. Richardson moved to second base and it's two way brings up Cleve Boyer who is two for three two single to left field and bounce to the shortstop.
- 1:56:13Cleve scored one run.
- 1:56:41Still a minute into the stretch position.
- 1:56:46That's the boy is low outside ball one.
- 1:57:03It's in a good lead off second.
- 1:57:07Tillman's curve is high ball to two or nothing.
- 1:57:11Tony Kubek kneeling on deck next batter.
- 1:57:32He's got a hand of stretches.
- 1:57:35Cleve serves a boy or it's one out in this strike one two balls one strike.
- 1:57:59Ready for the two one delivery.
- 1:58:03Ground ball hit that the pitches like one is going to have to hustle he can't make the play. He tried to pick it up there handed at the base of the boy.
- 1:58:14Actually have a hustle that play. I don't know whether he had to try and get it bare handed it was bouncing, which is a tough play for an infielder to come in on a bouncing ball of it's rolling you can pick it up there handed.
- 1:58:25He tried to grab it bare handed it kicked off his wrist and it's an infield single for Boyer his third base head of the day the 11th for the Yankees and here's Tony Kubek who struck out and fly to right field twice.
- 1:58:35Richardson moved a third on the play Yankees lead 7 3 top of the 6 to out.
- 1:58:50That's my home and the pitch to boy is right in the Red Sox dugout. Oh man that's got to the players. They came out all the way to the steps of the dugout.
- 1:58:59He rifled a one hopper in there and there's somebody threw a towel up in the air, which is a signal to cease firing.
- 1:59:07We surrender and a youngster throws it back into the bench.
- 1:59:14One strike on Kubek
- 1:59:25Boyer off first Richardson off third
- 1:59:30Pitches line to left center field at the base that coming in to score Richardson moving the third base is Boyer Kubek rounds and holds on at first base with an RBI single a left center.
- 1:59:41The Yankees have their hitting shoes on today.
- 1:59:45Fourth hit off Hillman a second run off Hillman Yankees lead 8 3 and now have 12 base hits and it brings up Roger Maris who has a single a homer and bounced into a fourth play.
- 2:00:01Boyer at third and Kubek at first.
- 2:00:07Five hits this inning for the Yankees.

- 2:18:19all the good things you want in beer are here today in Ballantine beer
- 2:18:24the brewers of Ballantine beer friends have found that today's beer drinkers demand two things in the beer that they enjoy
- 2:18:31one lightness and two flavor now Ballantine has put over a hundred and twenty years of know-how into brewing a beer
- 2:18:40that combines the best of both of these important qualities
- 2:18:44today's Ballantine therefore is sunny light as you like it with all the mellow lager flavor you want
- 2:18:51this special combination makes it the crisper pressure enjoy Ballantine
- 2:18:57your first swallow and each one to follow will tell you why more than five million glasses of Ballantine beer enjoyed every day
- 2:19:04but try golden glass full yourself and you'll find out why and you'll get all the good things you want in beer
- 2:19:12in the crisper pressure Ballantine beer Ralph Howe is bringing in Jim Coates as we go to the last of the seven
- 2:19:26Bill Stafford worked four innings in which he retired every man he faced that is the longest he has been able to go so far this season
- 2:19:46and in view of his late reporting spring training and the development of a so arm short path of the start of the season
- 2:19:56you might find the reason for bringing coach in at this point
- 2:20:03Ralph didn't want to run the risk of another so arm Ralph Terry started and was lifted in the third inning after having given up five hits
- 2:20:17a walk a double a walk and a double drove in two runs and Stafford came in runners on second third nobody out
- 2:20:25first man up at a sacrifice fly to get the third run home charged to Jerry and Bill did a tremendous job in relief a perfect job
- 2:20:35and now Jim Coates comes along and Don Budden the first man he'll face in the seventh inning pops the second and grounded the short
- 2:20:43coach's delivery in their strike one nothing in one Pete Ronald is out on deck to hit for Hillman
- 2:20:58coach delivers high ball on one and one Jim Coates making his 14th appearance his 13th relief job has worked 33 and a half innings
- 2:21:12about 21 hits and run average of 2.7 to a one lost record of five and two given up ten earned runs the one one pitch to Budden
- 2:21:26swung on as a fly ball into short left to back out Yogi and and to back makes the catch one away Pete Ronald coming up to hit for Dave
- 2:21:39Hillman batting 300.
- 2:21:59The pitch is low and inside for a ball one ball no strike coach delivers fastball in their strike one we've just gotten information over the
- 2:22:19inner communication system from the press box that Stafford's arm did begin to tighten previous inning but he wants one more now the
- 2:22:29delivery is high and our speculation proved to be a fact.
- 2:22:44To one count on Pete Ronald American League batting champion last year and the pitch is in their strike to to to two balls two strikes
- 2:23:07right hander into the wind up and the pitch fastball swung on it missed strike three two away now Chuck Schilling grounded the second
- 2:23:20drill walk and fly to right center Yankees eight Red Sox three it's the last of the seven.
- 2:23:45The right handers delivery inside ball to two balls no strike.
- 2:24:07Gary Geiger on deck Jim into the wind up and the next pitch is a little low ball three three nothing.
- 2:24:31Jim named this one and it's high ball for couldn't locate the plate for Schilling.
- 2:24:39So with two down Schilling draws a walk first Red Sox base runner and Johnson doubled in the third inning.
- 2:24:50Gary Geiger popped the third dropped a double along the left field line and popped the third left hand batter hitting the opposite
- 2:24:59field and the way you pull this time or not.
- 2:25:02They fit swung on and popped up in the air over near the stands of me.
- 2:25:07The plan should got to play on it.
- 2:25:08He has and one handed that ball failed back and he one handed it.
- 2:25:13Boyer was right behind him though.
- 2:25:19The Red Sox retired as Geiger files out to Blanchard no runs no hits no errors and one left on at the conclusion of seven innings.
- 2:25:31The Yankees eight runs twelve hits no errors five left on Boston three runs five hits no errors and five men left on base.
- 2:25:41Do not make case because haste makes waste.
- 2:25:50I want you to stop and carry.
- 2:25:55Did you be sure and carry plenty of those six pack jack.
- 2:26:05Get that funny mouth taste this lightness of the pressure like a cool dip on a warm summer's day.
- 2:26:15Those are the things you want and beer the things you get in today's Valentine talking about the Chris profession.
- 2:26:21Washington beat Los Angeles five to one.
- 2:26:25They only played one play one beat Minnesota four to three in the first game Baltimore one Chicago nothing ended six in the first game.
- 2:26:32Kansas City to Detroit nothing and the six and a half first game.
- 2:26:36Nationally Cincinnati seven San Francisco to end of eight and a half innings first game of a day and morning and afternoon doubleheader St.
- 2:26:45Louis L.A.
- 2:26:50Milwaukee beat Philadelphia three and one first game Chicago five Pittsburgh three first game.
- 2:26:58At the Indianapolis Speedway 500 mile Memorial Day Atlantic.
- 2:27:05The winner was AJ point Eddie Saks second and Roger Ward third.
- 2:27:14We don't have their time.
- 2:27:19Mike for Nellis comes in to work for the Red Sox as we go to the eighth inning Bobby Richardson up.
- 2:27:24Swings the first pitch and grounds at the short buttoned his left up with it throws on the first one away.
- 2:27:31Bobby who had tried to right center line the center and single the short on a slow roller actually single through the middle and slow hit ball button made a fine play.
- 2:27:41But Bobby beat Bobby grounds out the short to open the eighth and here is Jim Coates.
- 2:27:51For Nellis in his 14th appearance has a record of one and two second time out against New York.
- 2:28:06That my loosening up in the New York bullpen for Nellis pitch one on his missed strike one.
- 2:28:24Now the delivery bonnet bow coming back in the stand.
- 2:28:30Jim by another ball and came spinning back.
- 2:28:36We had a lot of fun after the ballgame last night for a while.
- 2:28:39A great many of the people who were here for the celebration of the president's 44th birthday came from Hartford and other points in Connecticut including the National Democratic Committeeman Bailey.
- 2:28:50Coach takes low outside for a ball and many of the state officials the governor led by the governor and he just wanted to talk baseball.
- 2:28:59A good ad mixture of Red Sox and Yankee fans.
- 2:29:02They pitched to Coates strike three calls.
- 2:29:15Cleet Boyer coming up single left grounded to short single left and single to short three for four.
- 2:29:28Eight to three New York eighth inning.
- 2:29:37For Nellis delivers over the outside corner for a strike.
- 2:29:42Red Sox have gotten some pretty good pitching.
- 2:29:47I mean over this season.
- 2:29:49Next pitch is low outside for a ball.
- 2:29:52Now the team pitching staff earned run average of three point six one for the start of today's game as opposed to the Yankees for now the pitch swung on line and the left field for a base hit and Cleet Boyer lines a single left for his fourth hit.
- 2:30:15Four for five the Yankees 13th hit.
- 2:30:22That comes Tony Kubek struck out single right.
- 2:30:25I mean I find the right twice and single left center one run batted in.
- 2:30:36For Nellis delivers to Tony who swings and lines up in the right field for a base hit.
- 2:30:41Boyer goes on to second boy your stop halfway between first and second he forgot there were two out.
- 2:30:48Jensen charged the liner but they already threw out the just he's probably computing his batting average you know and didn't often a fellow gets four five.
- 2:31:00Then the sudden you realize there are two out he couldn't gotten past second anyway the ball is lined out there in a hurry.
- 2:31:08Roger Maris single center hit a solo homer grounded the second fly to left to on to out.
- 2:31:14A pitch is over strike one.
- 2:31:20Of course we could have helped played out and told him and he jumped his average from 243 to 267 today.
- 2:31:3024 points
- 2:31:37for Nellis the two away delivers and Maris takes it low outside ball one eight to three New York eight thinning.
- 2:31:52Runners lead away from first and second here's the pitch inside ball to two and one.
- 2:32:12To on to out Mike pitch on the way is inside ball three three and one.
- 2:32:32Three balls one strike for your on second to back on first two out and the pitch swung on there's a drive at the deep right field that ball is going going in a dog Maris.
- 2:32:46Getting his second home of the day Yankees six home of the ball game too short of the record of eight and one game Maris being off way back getting his 11th homer four runs batted in the game.
- 2:33:05The seven the season one homer and one hour and three RBI behind man with a three run homer in the first thing struck out grounded third fly to center 11 to three New York and had six home runs.
- 2:33:25They pitch to mantle swung on and fouled off upstairs.
- 2:33:28Strike one the third three run in 11 to three New York.
- 2:33:37Darren hit two Maris to make text the strike right in there mantle Barra and the two strikes pitch swung on there's a drive to deep right center field and that ball is going going on into the bleachers.
- 2:34:06The Yankees and one short of the record.
- 2:34:19And the second back to back deal for the Yankees in the game. Man of 13 and 31 runs batted in and is long drive about four hundred and twenty five feet under the bleachers.
- 2:34:38The Yankees and one short of the three New York.
- 2:34:52And barre takes a bit it's not it's a 1 1 count.
- 2:35:15one one count he swings and
- 2:35:17lines it into right field for
- 2:35:18a base hit.
- 2:35:24So with two outs in this inning
- 2:35:28there have been five
- 2:35:29consecutive hits and up comes
- 2:35:32the move.
- 2:35:34Single the center hit two homers
- 2:35:35and walk.
- 2:35:3612 to 3 New York for Neal is
- 2:35:48ready delivers and scarring
- 2:35:50look out that almost hit him up
- 2:35:52on the shoulder.
- 2:35:54One ball no strike.
- 2:35:55They lose most and the pitch
- 2:36:07swung on foul back upstairs.
- 2:36:10Oddly enough only one homer has
- 2:36:12been hit into the friendly left
- 2:36:14field screen.
- 2:36:16One of Moses Moses second man
- 2:36:18was hit over the Red Sox bullpen
- 2:36:20just about the spot where a man
- 2:36:21will hit his and right center.
- 2:36:23All the others have been to the
- 2:36:25deep part change up curve over
- 2:36:28one and do the Yankees and
- 2:36:32enjoyed their finest hour and
- 2:36:34a long while.
- 2:36:43Here's the pitch the Skyron
- 2:36:44swung on a ground ball hit out
- 2:36:45the short up with it his button
- 2:36:47flips over to Schilling for the
- 2:36:48fourth time.
- 2:36:48The second on the run for New
- 2:36:52York for five hits no errors and
- 2:36:58one left on the end of seven and
- 2:36:59a half innings New York 12 Boston
- 2:37:04three and been hitting for the
- 2:37:08distance.

- 2:43:42Day race was won by AJ point of Houston Texas Eddie Sack second Roger Ward third
- 2:43:50for Neal is flipped and Blanchard hits a fly ball in the straightaway center.
- 2:43:55Gary Geiger hundred takes it for the out John popped the short rounded the
- 2:44:00second struck out and hit the box before just now flying the center and he is the
- 2:44:08only regular other than the pitchers and failed to hit. Boyars had four out of
- 2:44:15five to back two out of five Maris three out of five including two homers
- 2:44:21mantle two out of five including two homers pitch to Bobby Richardson in for
- 2:44:26a strike Maris driving in for a mantle for Barra that two for five including a
- 2:44:32homer scaring three for four including two homers. The pitch is in there for a
- 2:44:37strike and Richardson who is up has had one before flying to right center line
- 2:44:44to center singled and grounded to short.
- 2:44:48Mike Cornyless delivers and Bobby ellipse a high pop foul off first pick
- 2:44:53works move hundred and take it to a way and here's Jim Coates or Jim might keep
- 2:45:04it alive but from the standpoint of tying the record for most homers in the
- 2:45:07game by one team which is eight the Yankees are one short.
- 2:45:13You've had seven the records eight.
- 2:45:23You've had seven the records eight. Cornyless pitches time inside to Jim
- 2:45:38Coates.
- 2:45:39The count next pitch hit the coast in the back. Jim goes by and says something
- 2:45:56to him and now Bob Stewart goes out and says something to for me. And Stewart is
- 2:46:05calling Higgins out. I think Bob is in the thing that he deliberately threw it
- 2:46:09so back there only a thing something and I Higgins coming over.
- 2:46:15Jim next Jensen.
- 2:46:37And now Higgins is arguing with Stewart Stewart went out I think to warn
- 2:46:43the other. Charlie Berry comes over to get into the
- 2:46:53scapegoat.
- 2:47:23So Jim Coates is aboard hit by a pitch ball.
- 2:47:39Mike Cornelius is working to boyer.
- 2:47:40He's had four for five.
- 2:47:42He swings and fouls it back.
- 2:47:44Strike one.
- 2:47:45And the pitch.
- 2:48:05No outside for a ball.
- 2:48:19Next pitch to boyer is outside and low.
- 2:48:21The most home runs by a team in the game eight, the Yankees in 1939, the Braves in 1953,
- 2:48:28and the Reds in 1956.
- 2:48:29The Yankees have hit seven in this one.
- 2:48:34Another thing I may want to bring up here in a moment.
- 2:48:37Here's the pitch and over the outside corner for a strike.
- 2:48:40Two, two.
- 2:48:41Please boyer.
- 2:48:42He's had four out of five.
- 2:48:47Raised his average twenty four points to sixty seven.
- 2:48:50And that's what coats on first in the ninth inning, twelve to three New York.
- 2:48:55Mike Cornelius delivers.
- 2:48:56Pitch is swung on.
- 2:48:57It's a high fly ball in the right field.
- 2:49:01Jackie Johnson is under it.
- 2:49:02The catch and the side is retired.
- 2:49:05No runs.
- 2:49:07No hits.
- 2:49:08No errors.
- 2:49:09One left on the end of eight and a half innings.
- 2:49:10The score.
- 2:49:11The Yankees twelve and the Red Sox three.
- 2:49:27Never see a ballgame quite like this one.
- 2:49:34You see different kinds.
- 2:49:37But it's had two ingredients.
- 2:49:38The long ball and some exciting plays.
- 2:49:42Makes a good ballgame.
- 2:49:43The two very important things are going to truly find beer.
- 2:49:47The first is likeness.
- 2:49:48The second flavor.
- 2:49:49To really refresh a beer must have likeness plus like a beer flavor.
- 2:49:53Where a Ballantine beer comes in.
- 2:49:55Ballantine combines the best of both delivered to the taste you've been searching for in
- 2:49:59beer.
- 2:50:00A taste that's sunny, mellow and just as crisp and refreshing as all outdoors.
- 2:50:04So if likeness alone won't do for you, if you want a beer with flavor too then make
- 2:50:09the good old three ring sign and ask the man for Ballantine.
- 2:50:13People know quality when they taste it.
- 2:50:14And that's the reason why over five million glasses of the CRISPR Pressure enjoy it every
- 2:50:18day.
- 2:50:19So try it friends and enjoy it.
- 2:50:21Ballantine beer, the CRISPR Pressure.
- 2:50:38The other thing I wanted to bring up is the Yankees tied a record of having as many as
- 2:50:42three players at two home runs in one game.
- 2:50:48Bill and Maris and Scarron have done it today to tie a record.
- 2:50:51As we go to the last half of the ninth inning, Carroll Hardy up and Coates' pitch is swung
- 2:50:55on in line foul.
- 2:50:58Left field stands strike one.
- 2:51:01Pittsburgh had Keiner, Greenberg and Cox do it in 1947.
- 2:51:07The Red Sox had Doerr, Dropo and Williams do it in 1950.
- 2:51:11The Giants had May Spencer and Westrom in 1956.
- 2:51:14The Reds had Thurman, Robinson, Kluszewski in 1956.
- 2:51:18The Yankees today have had Maris, Mantle and Scarron.
- 2:51:20So it hasn't been done very often.
- 2:51:25They pitch to Hardy just outside for a ball, one and one.
- 2:51:36One ball, one strike.
- 2:51:41Coates' pitch is swung on lined out into right field for a base hit.
- 2:51:45Maris takes it on a hop.
- 2:51:47They throw in the second.
- 2:51:48Hardy really traveled around first and hits the dirt going back in.
- 2:51:52Single to right.
- 2:51:57Now Don Button swings in with a strike one.
- 2:52:15So this was the second time that it's been done in the American League.
- 2:52:20One team having three players hit as many as two homers.
- 2:52:23He's done the National League three times.
- 2:52:26Here's the pitch and it's low outside for a ball.
- 2:52:41One ball, one strike and the pitch is over the outside corner for a strike.
- 2:52:49Jack Reed has gone into center field by the way in place of Mantle.
- 2:53:01Coates delivers and it is over that outside corner.
- 2:53:06All strike three.
- 2:53:07Budden took it a good look but it was over there.
- 2:53:13And we'll have Russ Nixon coming up the bat for Mike Forneilis.
- 2:53:43Russ Nixon batting for Forneilis.
- 2:53:55Left hand batter and the pitch.
- 2:53:58High ball one.
- 2:53:59One ball, no strike.
- 2:54:00Here's the delivery.
- 2:54:20Just outside, ball two.
- 2:54:31Twelve to three New York last of the night.
- 2:54:40Here's the delivery.
- 2:54:41High for ball three.
- 2:54:44Three nothing count.
- 2:54:45We have a night game tomorrow and we'll be on the air at 855.
- 2:54:50I'm sorry, 755.
- 2:54:53Game's at eight o'clock.
- 2:55:06Now the pitch is in there for a strike, three and one.
- 2:55:21Three one count.
- 2:55:29And the pitch swung on line out into right center field and it's going to be in there
- 2:55:33for extra bases.
- 2:55:34There goes Hardy on his way to third and in the second goes Nixon with a double.
- 2:55:47Double right center for Russ Nixon.
- 2:55:55Up comes Chuck Schilling.
- 2:55:59Time to the second, walk, fly to right center and walk.
- 2:56:09One out the ninth inning, twelve to three New York.
- 2:56:16Gary Geiger on deck and the pitch inside, ball one.
- 2:56:31One ball, no strike.
- 2:56:34And the pitch, it's in there.
- 2:56:36One and one, one and one.
- 2:56:47Runners lead away from second and third.
- 2:56:49The pitch swung on, foul back out of play, strike two.
- 2:56:53One and two.
- 2:57:15One ball, two strikes.
- 2:57:21Runners lead away from second and third.
- 2:57:23Coach delivers and Schilling takes it outside.
- 2:57:26Ball two to two.
- 2:57:28Two balls, two strikes.
- 2:57:43Now the delivering, swung on and foul back out of play.
- 2:57:46Count remains two to two.
- 2:57:49A two to count.
- 2:57:56Hardee leads off third, Nixon off second.
- 2:58:24Now the windup and the two to pitch, swung on and missed, strike three.
- 2:58:30There are two away.
- 2:58:38And up comes Gary Geiger.
- 2:58:39Pops to third, double to left, pops to third, foul to the catcher.
- 2:58:55Coach delivers to Geiger, high ball one.
- 2:59:11Runners leading away from second and third, ninth inning.
- 2:59:14Jim Coach delivers and Geiger takes it low, ball two.
- 2:59:37Now the next pitch, it's outside, ball three.
- 2:59:41Jacket ford is on deck.
- 2:59:46Jacket jumps and the follow.
- 2:59:55And the three nothing pitch, it's over, strike one, train one.
- 3:00:09Here's the delivery, swung on to high pop.
- 3:00:13In the very short right, Richardson backing up, still going back and makes the catch and
- 3:00:17the ball game is over.
- 3:00:23No runs, two hits, no errors and two men left on and the Yankees win the second game of
- 3:00:28the series.
- 3:00:29Twelve to three where the home run class included seven.
- 3:00:37Ten short of the record for most homers in a game by one team and tighter record for
- 3:00:44most men to hit as many as two homers in a game with Mantle, Maris and Skaren each hitting
- 3:00:50two.
- 3:00:51So as we check the totals, check your Ballantine beer, fill up the glass and have a ball.
