- 0:00Imagine if your past struggles and mistakes no longer held you back.
- 0:04What new heights could your marriage reach?
- 0:07Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:11We're on part three of Total Commitment.
- 0:14Today, Rey will share his own insights from Philippians 3 verses 13 to 14.
- 0:20Stay tuned, because the journey of transformation is ongoing,
- 0:23and what's ahead might just change everything. Here's Rey.
- 0:28Philippians 3, verse 13 to 14 says, Brethren, I do not regard myself as having
- 0:35laid hold of it yet, but one thing I do,
- 0:39forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,
- 0:44I press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
- 0:52We can draw many lessons from these two verses in Philippians 3.
- 0:57And we've already shared some of those insights on day two of this blog series.
- 1:03As you reflect on your own journey, I'm sure you'll find even more lessons to add.
- 1:10Keep those reflection coming and be intentional about noting the practical application
- 1:16that relate to each lesson.
- 1:19For me as a husband, this verse serves as a reminder to look ahead to the future,
- 1:26especially as God transforms us, rather than dwelling on past mistakes.
- 1:32But we shouldn't let these lessons pass without taking note of what they teach
- 1:39us and turning our conviction into tangible actions.
- 1:43God often allows us to go through similar circumstances because it's not about
- 1:49the situation itself, but about our ongoing transformation.
- 1:55Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow in our marriage and character.
- 2:02We can't ignore the every real problem of unhealthy pattern in marriage today.
- 2:08When conflict or misunderstanding occurs,
- 2:12It's tempting to blame the past, bringing up old mistakes.
- 2:16Often we avoid talking through issues or intentionally working on resolving misunderstanding.
- 2:24This gives Satan room to tempt us, reminding us of our shortcomings and unresolved pain.
- 2:32And before we know it, we get caught in the endless wheel of pain and regret.
- 2:38Annie and I have been through this before, and we thank God for saving us and
- 2:44guiding us away from falling into those traps.
- 2:48It's not easy to confront the behaviors we've established, especially when on
- 2:55the surface we feel justified.
- 2:57But it was my relationship with Christ that helped me surrender and genuinely
- 3:03embrace this new journey with Him.
- 3:07I'm not saying that change happens instantly.
- 3:10It takes time and a new understanding of my identity in Christ and just as importantly,
- 3:19my wife's identity to Him too.
- 3:21Philippians 3 verse 13 to 14 encourage us not to cling to the past,
- 3:26but to look forward to what God has in store.
- 3:31To my fellow husband, I want to encourage you to take this verse to heart.
- 3:36And I also want to point you to John 14, verse 1 to 6, where Jesus says,
- 3:43Do not let your heart be troubled.
- 3:46Believe in God. Believe also in me.
- 3:49My Father's house are many dwelling place. If it were not so, I would have told you.
- 3:55For I go to prepare a place for you.
- 3:58If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself,
- 4:04that where I am, there you may be also, and you know the way where I am going.
- 4:12Thomas said to him, Lord, we do not know where you are going.
- 4:17How do we know the way? Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
- 4:24No one comes to the Father but through me.
- 4:27This reminds us of what we should be preparing for, to be with Jesus,
- 4:32to live in his presence, and to pursue spiritual growth that impacts not just
- 4:39ourselves, but our marriage as well.
- 4:42So, let's persevere and keep pushing forward in our spiritual journey.
- 4:48It will not only transform us, but also strengthen our marriage,
- 4:54making it more resilient and rooted to Christ.
