- 0:00Hello everybody, and welcome to this rain Delay weather special
- 0:05for the Daytona 500. We are brought to you by Jags,
- 0:10the leader in high performance aftermarket car parts.
- 0:14Remember to go to jags.com for anything and anything you need
- 0:19to fix your hot rod up. All right, it is raining in
- 0:23Daytona. The highlights so far.
- 0:27President Trump came in Air Force One and boy, it looked
- 0:30good. Had his granddaughter with him.
- 0:34Really good optics. Shout out to the great Jamie
- 0:38Little, man. I mean, that's a nervous
- 0:40situation. You're interviewing the
- 0:41president of United States, Jamie Little.
- 0:44She kicked it out of the ballpark.
- 0:47She's a badass. Great job, Jamie Little.
- 0:52So hey, listen, we got lucky. We got lucky because they've
- 0:55been calling for this rain and they move the starting line up,
- 0:59you know, starting of the race an hour early, hoping to beat
- 1:02all of it. There was no beating the weather
- 1:06in Daytona. But we get 6 laps in and I got
- 1:11to tell you, Chase Briscoe leads 2 laps.
- 1:14I know that team wanted to check that off.
- 1:16You don't want to sit, you don't want to set QuickTime at the
- 1:20Daytona 500 and not leave the first lap.
- 1:22So congratulations to Chase Briscoe.
- 1:25Then Chase moves up and opens that lower line for William
- 1:30Byron and William Byron leads some laps.
- 1:32And then how about Ty Dillon? I'm very impressed.
- 1:35I was thinking that's your, that's your dark horse, Ty
- 1:39Dillon. Here's your dark horse.
- 1:41He you know, he ran good in, in, in the duels.
- 1:45So Ty Dillon and that black #10 and I think that's about it.
- 1:50But I feel like NASCAR got very lucky.
- 1:54I mean, it could have been a washout, right?
- 1:58You know, maybe if they started when they were going to, they
- 2:00were going to start. If they would have started an
- 2:02hour later, it would have been bad.
- 2:05It would have been, you know, Pitbull wouldn't have been able
- 2:08to perform his concert president landing.
- 2:11That would have looked bad, You know, So I feel like we got good
- 2:15optics, you know, to start the Daytona 500.
- 2:21All right, we're going to have a little fun here.
- 2:24The Herminator. Look at this.
- 2:28OK, Tell me your rain delay stories.
- 2:33I know I got about 6 minutes worth and all.
- 2:36I want all of you to respond right here.
- 2:38So NASCAR has to get lucky to have a great year, right?
- 2:47We know how lucky we got for the Bowman Gray race.
- 2:51You know, when NASCAR said we're going to hold the All Star race
- 2:56or not the All Star race, but you know, the the Bud shoot out
- 2:59sort of speak at the start of the year, we're going to hold it
- 3:01out in California. Well, that made sense, right,
- 3:03Because you figured the weather would be out.
- 3:06You'll be much better out in California.
- 3:09So, you know, it rained. OK, so they say, all right,
- 3:14let's move it to Bowman Gray. What?
- 3:18You never know. Weather's crazy.
- 3:19So we get the race in at Bowman Gray where you're not supposed
- 3:22to get it in clear, but yet 40°, but it looked good.
- 3:26All right, here we are at Daytona.
- 3:28It's doing what it does. It rains.
- 3:31But I must say this, you got to get lucky.
- 3:34I was in Daytona for 11 straight days and everybody knows I just
- 3:39got home. It was 86°.
- 3:42It did not rain for 11 days in Daytona.
- 3:46So I came home what, on Sunday and here we are seven days later
- 3:52and there it is rain, rain, rain.
- 3:54All right, so listen to this. We're we're going to go through
- 3:58some of weather memories in NASCAR.
- 4:03All right, 1993. I'm a rookie in NASCAR and we're
- 4:08going to Atlanta Motor Speedway. It was snow Snowmageddon, you
- 4:14know, instead of Armageddon Snowmageddon, it's like we're in
- 4:18Atlanta, GA 1993. Respond right here.
- 4:22Do you all remember it? Oh my gosh, It's like, oh, it's
- 4:25maybe just going to be a little dusting.
- 4:27No, it was like a Blizzard 1993, my rookie year, Daytona, and it
- 4:34just didn't snow us out. We came back like a week later.
- 4:37So Oh my God, we need to do ATV special on weather delays and
- 4:45weather phenomenons. How about even Darryl Walter
- 4:49believing if you keep the cars on the track, what what did he
- 4:52call that vortex? The vortex theory Keep the race
- 4:57cars going and it will the air will blow the wind away will
- 5:00blow the weather away. So just crazy. 1993 Atlanta were
- 5:07you there? Respond right here OK, Bristol
- 5:142006 I'm in the Xfinity race, OK, And I believe I'm in the
- 5:19Stacker 2 car. We're running along and all of a
- 5:21sudden I'm seeing stuff hitting my window.
- 5:23You know, of course, Bristol, there's no jacking around.
- 5:26We're going hard caution, then red.
- 5:30It snows. You know when you go and get
- 5:33this, the ice cream, what's the little white Pebble ice cream,
- 5:36right? It was like a sleet snow.
- 5:40It must have snowed at Bristol on that Saturday for the Xfinity
- 5:45race, 1/2 inch. And here was the crazy part.
- 5:50Everybody gets out of the cars. Everybody's.
- 5:52I mean, there was enough snow where people were making
- 5:54snowballs Literally an hour later.
- 6:00I mean, the sun come out and we're green flag.
- 6:05That was a weather phenomenon. And when you get up to Bristol,
- 6:07you get in those mountains, you never know what you're going to
- 6:10get. Sometimes it can be foggy up
- 6:13there at Bristol and it will not, the fog will not lift until
- 6:17noon and and there'll be no rain.
- 6:19But you never know what you're going to get at Bristol because
- 6:22of those mountains. So, so far we've talked about
- 6:24that crazy snow, 1993 Atlanta Motor Speedway.
- 6:32We talked about the crazy phenomenon.
- 6:34Was it 2006 Bristol Motor Speedway on that Saturday for
- 6:39the Xfinity race? It's snowing.
- 6:42It's got 1/2 inch in like an hour.
- 6:44Not even maybe two hours later, we're green flag to sunshine.
- 6:48And it's like what just happened?
- 6:50OK. And then and then the one that
- 6:53was pretty wild and it was it was more like Groundhog Day.
- 6:58Does anybody remember Michigan about, I don't know, let's say
- 7:05let's say 2002 thousand, What about 7-8 years ago?
- 7:13It rained on Sunday, it rained on Monday and I don't think we
- 7:18raced until Tuesday or Wednesday.
- 7:20Respond right here. Be part of the conversation.
- 7:23Tell me, do you remember that weather phenomenon in Michigan?
- 7:28We thought, OK, we'll rain down on Sunday and it rained.
- 7:31It would not quit raining and rained us out on Monday and I
- 7:35think we raced on that that Tuesday or Wednesday.
- 7:39So, all right, listen, this is tongue in cheek.
- 7:43You know, the story is, is that people have bitched and moan
- 7:47about weather and they always blame it on NASCAR.
- 7:52I can't believe NASCAR make it rain.
- 7:54They should have started at 8 O clock this morning.
- 7:59All right, everybody, we got lucky.
- 8:03The optics look good. NASCAR are still off to a good
- 8:06start. It would be nice to get this
- 8:08race in tonight. However, I can remember some
- 8:12weather phenomenons. I remember us getting rain
- 8:16delayed at Daytona and on Fox Sports and we left Daytona,
- 8:21drove home and on Monday night they finished the race at
- 8:26Daytona, the Daytona 500. And we went live from the
- 8:30studios in in Charlotte because it rained the Daytona 500 out on
- 8:37that Sunday night and then it rained all Monday and we finally
- 8:40got that Daytona 500 in on Sunday night.
- 8:44Listen up everybody. This, this is part of life.
- 8:48I had fun with a pole. I said, who do we blame this
- 8:51race on? Is it NASCAR's fault or Gods?
- 8:56I think we all know it's Mother Nature and we can't control it.
- 9:01And it is true. NASCAR has got to get lucky.
- 9:06It's an you know it, it's an outside sport and and I want to
- 9:10end like this. Look how much good NASCAR has
- 9:14done. They've come out with the rain
- 9:16tire. They've gone green flag.
- 9:18I got Richmond last year. They've been racing in the rain.
- 9:22They're doing their best. They've made a lot of
- 9:25improvements. They spent millions and millions
- 9:27of dollars. They've got the, the, the we
- 9:30didn't have jet dryers. We didn't have jet dryers back
- 9:34in the day. We didn't, we did not have rain
- 9:36tires back in the day. So I guess it could appear that
- 9:39I'm kissing NASCAR's ass, but you know, I'm not.
- 9:43I'm just reminding you all of the weather stories we all have.
- 9:47And look at the effort that NASCAR is putting in with the,
- 9:51with the invention of the jet dryers.
- 9:53It dries the track out so much faster with the rain tires.
- 9:57And listen, we went, we went green flag at Richmond last year
- 10:012 hours early. Instead of waiting for Richmond,
- 10:05the racetrack to dry out, they just dropped the green flag and
- 10:07it was wet and you can see the the water going and guys were
- 10:11pitting and they were putting on normal tires.
- 10:14So we are making gains in the weather, but damn it this we
- 10:19can't control God and what and Mother Nature.
- 10:22All right, I hope you all enjoyed this rain delay special
- 10:26and respond here with your weather stories.
