- 0:01Speaker 2: This is Benson Boone, and you are listening to Smallsy
- 0:03Speaker 2: Now on KISS.
- 0:05Speaker 3: Benson Boone? The Boone Dog?
- 0:06Speaker 1: The Boone Dog.
- 0:07Speaker 3: The Booninator? The Booninator!
- 0:09Speaker 1: Woo!
- 0:11Speaker 3: We roll with those nicknames? Is that good? Yeah, yeah.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Can we?
- 0:15Speaker 1: Yeah, in Australia, I'll be the Booninator.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Yeah, we will. Booninator. Your Aussie accent gets better every time.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Thank you, mate.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Thank you. We do love to give everyone a nickname,
- 0:24Speaker 3: so the Booninator is what we will refer to you as.
- 0:28Speaker 3: far out um lovely to see you it's lovely to
- 0:33Speaker 3: see you it's been a while it has been a
- 0:34Speaker 3: while um catch me up what's been going on because
- 0:36Speaker 3: you've been very busy.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Yes yes yes um we've pretty much been on the
- 0:42Speaker 2: road yeah for the most part of the last like
- 0:46Speaker 2: give or take three years yeah um it's been a
- 0:48Speaker 2: lot it's been really good but it's been a lot
- 0:52Speaker 2: um I got a house.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Congratulations.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I want to go there. You haven't been to it.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Well, I have been there, just not enough.
- 1:00Speaker 1: I've been there for like.
- 1:01Speaker 3: This was going to be my question, so I'm going
- 1:03Speaker 3: to derail you as you catch me up.
- 1:04Speaker 1: No, derail.
- 1:04Speaker 3: When you tour the world and you travel constantly, I
- 1:08Speaker 3: heard some wild stat about another artist that was going
- 1:10Speaker 3: to check into a hotel for something like 28 days
- 1:12Speaker 3: in LA because they were going to be writing a
- 1:15Speaker 3: record or something like that. Whoa. When you are traveling,
- 1:18Speaker 3: you don't go home, right? You rarely spend much time
- 1:21Speaker 3: at home. It's hotels.
- 1:22Speaker 4: No.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I guess I just said, whoa, and I have definitely
- 1:24Speaker 1: done that.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:26Speaker 2: That's kind of how it goes. When you're on the road,
- 1:28Speaker 2: I know there's a lot of artists that write a
- 1:32Speaker 2: lot on the road.
- 1:34Speaker 1: I can't. I can't do that. I can't write if
- 1:36Speaker 1: I have not lived any life.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah. I got to go out and experience the world,
- 1:42Speaker 2: even if that's just in like.
- 1:43Speaker 1: A very lazy way.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47Speaker 1: But yeah. So when I'm on the road, we're traveling
- 1:51Speaker 1: every day.
- 1:51Speaker 2: We're in a, In a green room and then in
- 1:53Speaker 2: a new city and then maybe in a hotel for
- 1:56Speaker 2: a day off. And then when we go home, my writing,
- 2:00Speaker 2: I've set.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Up a studio at my house.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Are we cooking on a record?
- 2:09Speaker 1: We're cooking. We're cooking.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been, before this tour, this Wanted Man tour,
- 2:17Speaker 2: I wrote quite a lot. And then afterwards, I'm planning
- 2:21Speaker 2: on continuing that. So we'll have next year a substantial
- 2:25Speaker 2: amount of songs.
- 2:27Speaker 3: I like the sound of that.
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yeah, me too.
- 2:28Speaker 3: I like the sound of that. You are coming back
- 2:30Speaker 3: to Australia. You'll be here in November. Yes. Favorite memories
- 2:34Speaker 3: from last time you were there? What are you looking
- 2:36Speaker 3: forward to doing?
- 2:37Speaker 4: Oh.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You know what? You know what we never got to
- 2:40Speaker 1: go do?
- 2:41Speaker 3: What?
- 2:41Speaker 2: I don't know exactly what city it's in, but I
- 2:43Speaker 2: see so many people go and do this. They go
- 2:46Speaker 2: to like this sick zoo or like this, it's like
- 2:50Speaker 2: an outdoor experience where you can like see kangaroos and koalas.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Yeah, you can do that. That's in Sydney.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 1: I've never seen a kangaroo.
- 2:57Speaker 2: And I've been, I've actually been traveling to Australia a
- 3:01Speaker 2: little bit in the last, like right before tour I
- 3:02Speaker 2: went and stopped there.
- 3:04Speaker 3: And you've not, never seen a kangaroo? No, never.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Never seen a kangaroo.
- 3:09Speaker 3: I think we need to have a chat to the team. Yeah.
- 3:11Speaker 3: This seems very easy to organize. Like, they are in
- 3:14Speaker 3: abundant supply in Australia. That's what I hear. Like, that
- 3:16Speaker 3: you haven't seen one is quite shocking. Yeah. Because, and
- 3:19Speaker 3: this is not even me pulling the leg of someone
- 3:22Speaker 3: from overseas, they bounce up and down the street.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Literally.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Literally, they bounce.
- 3:27Speaker 1: They are the definition of bounce on it, dude.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 3:31Speaker 1: That is a kangaroo. That is their literal essence, man.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Seriously.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Seriously. For real.
- 3:36Speaker 3: We'll get you a kangaroo.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:38Speaker 3: If you can name it as well or something like that.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Because as I said, there's a lot of them.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And do they... Wait.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Sorry. Go.
- 3:44Speaker 1: I'm now derailing this conversation a little bit.
- 3:46Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Am I stupid or do they box people?
- 3:50Speaker 3: No, they fight.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Do they actually square up?
- 3:51Speaker 3: So they will rear up like this. What? They will
- 3:54Speaker 3: rear up. The big daddies will rear up. They will
- 3:59Speaker 3: stand on their tail.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Wait.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Like their whole weight?
- 4:04Speaker 3: Their whole weight is on the tail, and then they'll
- 4:05Speaker 3: get their hind legs like, can I, I'm going to
- 4:08Speaker 3: demonstrate this to you.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 3: Weight on the rear. Their hands like this, and they've
- 4:14Speaker 3: got these big, you know, like Jurassic Park, like the big.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Like claws?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Slash at your belly.
- 4:22Speaker 1: No way.
- 4:23Speaker 3: Yes. So don't square up to one at all.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Well, how quick are they to do that? Because they're
- 4:29Speaker 2: leaning back.
- 4:30Speaker 1: They can turn.
- 4:32Speaker 3: They can turn. That's why we put the older ones
- 4:35Speaker 3: in the petting zoo. They can't move as quickly.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Yeah. So only the elder kangaroos are allowed to be pet.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Do they ever get acquainted with people? Are they ever like,
- 4:46Speaker 2: all right, I've been around people enough. I'm not going
- 4:48Speaker 2: to square up to this child.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Completely.
- 4:50Speaker 3: No, the old ones, they'll just lay on the ground
- 4:52Speaker 3: and let kids come up and pet them.
- 4:53Speaker 1: No way.
- 4:54Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's why I say to you, I'm
- 4:55Speaker 3: shocked that you haven't done that yet. But we can
- 4:57Speaker 3: arrange that for when you're here in Australia next time.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Will you be back flipping for us?
- 5:04Speaker 1: Well, I feel like that's a pretty obvious thing. But
- 5:07Speaker 1: it's definitely going to come. It's got to come to
- 5:09Speaker 1: an end someday. Do you think so? I've actually been
- 5:10Speaker 1: thinking about that.
- 5:11Speaker 3: No.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I have. Don't do this. Not now. Not now.
- 5:14Speaker 1: I'm still young and spry.
- 5:16Speaker 3: One day, though.
- 5:17Speaker 1: But, dude, one day. I've never missed one besides an
- 5:25Speaker 1: intentional miss.
- 5:26Speaker 2: I was in this like, celebrity football game and I
- 5:30Speaker 2: had this handshake with this gal where she would like
- 5:32Speaker 2: get an arrow and shoot it at me and then
- 5:34Speaker 2: I'd like fall back and do a backflip and everyone
- 5:35Speaker 2: saw and they're like Benji Bruce losing it I was
- 5:38Speaker 2: like no guys that was on purpose but other than
- 5:42Speaker 2: that yeah I've always landed you.
- 5:44Speaker 4: Have uh and we appreciate that you've landed yeah yeah
- 5:48Speaker 4: well me too yeah totally and your team um and
- 5:51Speaker 4: everyone in your life yeah yeah I'm just waiting for
- 5:53Speaker 4: the day though that Has anyone pulled you aside, though,
- 5:56Speaker 4: and gone, hey, the one tonight, like, you need to
- 6:00Speaker 4: calm down a little bit?
- 6:02Speaker 3: No. No. No. Do you know where you're going to
- 6:05Speaker 3: do them in the show? No. Because I've always, okay, wow.
- 6:08Speaker 1: It's not a.
- 6:09Speaker 3: A planned thing.
- 6:10Speaker 2: Yeah. Actually, I saw a video of this gal who
- 6:13Speaker 2: was like, I wonder what Benson Boone does for, like,
- 6:18Speaker 2: for his tour prep.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Like.
- 6:20Speaker 1: People are out here like on a treadmill running.
- 6:22Speaker 3: This is my question here. We're stretching, pre-show stretching. Do
- 6:25Speaker 3: you pre-show stretch? No. You don't.
- 6:28Speaker 1: Pre-show stretch.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yeah. You must.
- 6:31Speaker 2: No, no.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I really don't.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I should.
- 6:33Speaker 3: Yeah. I should.
- 6:34Speaker 2: But even like for a whole tour, I don't really
- 6:37Speaker 2: practice the flips. Like that doesn't, it's never happened. So
- 6:41Speaker 2: when I go and I play the first show of
- 6:43Speaker 2: a tour and I haven't been performing for eight.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Months, that is my first flip in eight months.
- 6:49Speaker 3: Okay.
- 6:49Speaker 1: Unless I like went cliff jumping or something.
- 6:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 6:52Speaker 1: So it's not like a.
- 6:54Speaker 3: It sounds dangerous. But I'm glad that you're so far
- 6:57Speaker 3: so good.
- 6:58Speaker 1: So far so good.
- 6:59Speaker 2: So hopefully that continues through Australia because, you know.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Did you... Next question just about performing on stage because
- 7:05Speaker 3: it's about the tour. Did you know you'd look like
- 7:07Speaker 3: that in the Spider-Man onesie?
- 7:09Speaker 1: No.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Because the internet, like everyone loved it. And you're going
- 7:13Speaker 3: to bring a onesie to Australia.
- 7:14Speaker 1: You know what? I've been thinking about it.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Yeah. I've been wondering, what's Australia's vibe with Spider-Man?
- 7:21Speaker 3: No, we love Spider-Man.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 7:23Speaker 3: Absolutely. Go for gold.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, then I'm sure it will continue.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Okay, great. I do kind of need to get a
- 7:27Speaker 1: better suit, though.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Are you.
- 7:30Speaker 3: No, it was good.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It was much better than the Grammys, where the front
- 7:33Speaker 1: actually was great.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 1: The front, like, didn't, you know, like, ride up too far.
- 7:38Speaker 1: The back, however, it was like... It was like... I
- 7:42Speaker 1: don't really even know what to compare it to.
- 7:44Speaker 2: It's what I would imagine wearing a thong would feel like.
- 7:47Speaker 3: It would feel like, yes. It was very hungry.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Yes.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 7:53Speaker 1: It's very hungry.
- 7:55Speaker 3: It's a hungry Spider-Man. It's a hungry, yep. Let's talk
- 7:58Speaker 3: about music. The Time of My Life came out in June.
- 8:01Speaker 3: You said you've been writing. Yeah. Have we got a
- 8:03Speaker 3: full album almost done, do you think?
- 8:07Speaker 1: It's hard to say.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:08Speaker 1: It's hard to say. I definitely have.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Enough songs, yes.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Okay.
- 8:14Speaker 1: But it's a very particular process for everyone. Of course. Like,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what anyone else's process is.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Just for me, I kind of want to wait till
- 8:23Speaker 2: I know I have the right tracks. Yeah.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Which, you know, could be in a week.
- 8:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Could be in a couple months.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Okay. I don't know.
- 8:34Speaker 1: Okay.
- 8:34Speaker 3: All right. What's inspiring you in life? Is there anything
- 8:40Speaker 3: in general? Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Love.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I feel like that's the greatest inspiration of all time.
- 8:50Speaker 2: But yeah, new love I think is a very beautiful feeling.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I think when you first open yourself up to someone,
- 9:01Speaker 2: it's like one of the greatest things ever to feel
- 9:04Speaker 2: as a human being and to have that be accepted.
- 9:07Speaker 1: So I have quite a lot of inspiration right now.
- 9:11Speaker 3: I like that. Does it change the process? Are you
- 9:15Speaker 3: writing in a way that you didn't write before? Yes.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Are you seeing things you didn't see before?
- 9:19Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's not necessarily like this big change of
- 9:21Speaker 2: how I go about it, but it's like, you know,
- 9:25Speaker 2: if you're writing in a time of your life where
- 9:27Speaker 2: you don't have a lot to write about and you're
- 9:29Speaker 2: kind of picking from older places in your life or
- 9:32Speaker 2: like looking at the people around you, sometimes.
- 9:35Speaker 1: It's harder to grab a lot of lyrics and a
- 9:39Speaker 1: lot of words and.
- 9:43Speaker 2: And even melodies but like when you have something to
- 9:46Speaker 2: write about um I'm sure most other artists that write
- 9:51Speaker 2: are are like this like those feelings just very easily
- 9:57Speaker 2: turn into melodies and words so easily.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It comes very quickly.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Okay, I can't wait to hear it. I can't wait
- 10:02Speaker 3: to hear it. Last question. How much time do we
- 10:04Speaker 3: spend grooming? Honestly, I can confirm in real life, it's
- 10:10Speaker 3: more impressive.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Really?
- 10:12Speaker 3: Look, it was impressive on the socials, but in real life,
- 10:15Speaker 3: being this close to it? Benny Boone, I'm not surprised
- 10:19Speaker 3: you've got new love. Like, I'm telling you.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I will spend maybe, maybe, maybe five minutes a week.
- 10:26Speaker 3: I don't believe it.
- 10:27Speaker 1: And it's just, it's just trimming. It's just trimming.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Is it really? Yeah.
- 10:31Speaker 3: Because, you know, some of us who are, like, almost
- 10:34Speaker 3: a lot older than you are.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Almost. Almost a lot older.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Yeah, almost.
- 10:38Speaker 4: Not at all.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:39Speaker 3: I couldn't, for the life of me, even cobble together
- 10:43Speaker 3: any of that.
- 10:44Speaker 4: No.
- 10:45Speaker 3: No, I'm being real.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Because you're now, you won't commit.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Because you have to commit to looking so terrible for
- 10:52Speaker 2: like two months.
- 10:53Speaker 3: Okay, this is where I've broken. I start to look
- 10:56Speaker 3: terrible and I'm like, this is it. I'm done. Yeah.
- 10:59Speaker 3: You push through the ugly.
- 11:00Speaker 1: That's a hard barrier to push.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Okay, that's the note I'm taking.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Luckily, I did it like before.
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Like, you know, a lot of people were caring about
- 11:08Speaker 1: what I look like.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Okay, so I will take that on notice. Push through
- 11:11Speaker 3: the ugly when it comes to growing a mustache. And
- 11:14Speaker 3: we'll see you in Australia in November.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 11:16Speaker 3: Can't wait to have you back.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I can't wait to be back.
- 11:18Speaker 3: Smallsy, now on Kiss.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Head to Chemist Warehouse and save more money every year
- 11:24Speaker 2: on your regular
- 11:25Speaker 1: Medication with discounted prescriptions in every store, every day.
