- 0:35going on right now, so we're both we're both definitely playing with uh,
- 0:40what's that word? I mean, yeah, lightning. This is be kind
- 0:47of funny. This is how it always goes. When everbody starts, I'll
- 0:49just get into it. Welcome to Chuck's Cantina, your favorite barman host what
- 0:54ell you want to call me? Chuck? Thank you for joining us today
- 0:57for episode one sixty eight. Uh our guest today in the CANTEENA. I've
- 1:02kind of given them shot them shot. I mean, obviously jedill give you
- 1:04a shot here in a second, I give them shout outs in the past
- 1:07from pod match, great resource to you know, connect with other content creators
- 1:11of podcasters and stuff like that potentially work together some collaborations. But my guest
- 1:15today it's Jed Schaffer. Uh. He is one of the hosts from another
- 1:21podcast which you can find everywhere on like a Apple, Spotify. I'm sure
- 1:25there's other sources. I mean, I'm still finding my podcast on other platforms
- 1:27that we know existed. Uh. Their podcast is called First Gen Gamers.
- 1:34And yeah, I mean essentially, like I mean, Jed and I have
- 1:38been kind of missing over a podmatch last couple of months, just not really
- 1:42having a conversation, just be like, hey, let's talk, let's do
- 1:44a podcast together. But I mean just read your profile, and I mean
- 1:46you can just read my profile too, pretty much one of the same.
- 1:49Just two nerds here to talk and we'll get a little more to your background
- 1:53here a little bit, and we'll talk about like again, like whatever just
- 1:53comes up in our minds here. Uh. But you know, obviously Jed
- 1:57huge, you know gamer fan is also a huge movie horror movie fan.
- 2:01Excuse me. And then I also saw that you wrote a column for for
- 2:07about a decade on pro wrestling. Pause hold on anytime I say progress on
- 2:10the show, we lose ten viewers one two three four. Okay, Uh,
- 2:15so, yeah, you're welcome to stay, mister Dave Melter, then
- 2:17go away. I'm kidding. So it's like saying Baldemort. So time I
- 2:27see him pop up on Dark Side of the Ring, I'm like, at
- 2:32this point, I was, you know, he's you know, he's a
- 2:35producer at this point right. Really, as always you can find really quickly
- 2:43get some of the the house. By the way, as always, you
- 2:46can find us at Chucks Canteen, your socials, Chuckscantina, on gmail dot
- 2:49com, or on pomat if you want to connect today, I am drinking
- 2:53a waterloo because I'm trying to be clean with the middle with the diet,
- 2:57drinking a waterloo, uh, watermelon water, sparkling water, whatever? Did
- 3:01are you taking ay through the day? I'm drinking plain, old, boring
- 3:06tapwater. That's no such thing here, sir. We always stay on here
- 3:08unless you it's it's tapwater from Orlando, Florida. Any water is high quality.
- 3:13H two L. So you are doing just fine. So uh but
- 3:17yeah, Jed, appreciate you coming on. It's nice to finally connect with
- 3:21you. It's nice to be on the show. I know, well like
- 3:24you said, we've been you know, we since pod match doesn't send you
- 3:30an email when you get a connection. Oh god, oh I have to
- 3:34think about going to pod match and double check and oh crap, it's been
- 3:37a month since he sent you a message. I know, Like there's a
- 3:40couple other like podcasts I've been talking to, but you and I've been talking
- 3:44for months and then one day someone messaged me. They're like, hey,
- 3:46Chuck, like, uh, something that I did connect with. We're gonna
- 3:50do a show at some point layer down the road. They're like, hey,
- 3:52can we can you fix your calendy. I'm like, oh yeah,
- 3:53I totally forgot that you can use calendy for podmatch and just have it since
- 3:57I've done that big mistake because I had like six people just schedule like random
- 4:02times with me. I'm like, I don't even know you. No,
- 4:06You're right, Like the only way you get in know vacation is if like
- 4:10you essentially have like a calendar CD to your popcats and people just go,
- 4:13hey, can I come on your show? I got Saturday at eight o'clock.
- 4:15I'm like, no, So I have whole life, Like I have
- 4:21a job, I have a life. I like to sleep in on Saturdays,
- 4:25even though my cat's wueak me up every Saturday at five am. Anyway,
- 4:28moving on to the point, we go back a little bit. Let's
- 4:33go back. Let's I was tuk a little bit about you. We'll get
- 4:38into hbously talking about first gen gamers here in a little bit and shock and
- 4:42they know we're not gonna talk about Deadpool the entire time. We're actually get
- 4:44kind of you know, maybe give some other fellow nerds or other comic you
- 4:47know, just like nerds in general, or get people a break from all
- 4:49things deadpoole. So, uh, we're like, why don't you tell me
- 4:53a little bit about just like what essentially got you to write, uh,
- 4:57you know, columns for professional wrestling, you know, and uh yeah,
- 5:01it's nice to actually talk to someone you know that isn't going to you know,
- 5:04like Dave Meltzer, Like every time I like turn to my left,
- 5:08he's just there, you know, like like Joe Hendry, like you if
- 5:11you say his name, he appears. With Dave Meltzer, you don't.
- 5:13If you don't even say his name, he appears, which sucks, right,
- 5:15You just hit the snow the star key on your keyboard and all of
- 5:19a sudden, there's deve meltzer going. But really will lost breast. Well,
- 5:25let's see hit the star key on your on your keypad, thigh slap,
- 5:30cut yourself shaving, and yeah, if he's doing any of those,
- 5:34he'll up here. Oh my gosh, so fine. I forgot what the
- 5:46question? What that was going to tell you about your experience writing a column
- 5:50professional wrestling? Uh so, yeah, it's been a while since I did
- 5:58it. I had to step away just because it was the time. Investment
- 6:02was a lot. I started off on the column, went through like three
- 6:08different websites. It started off on four one one Mania, and then it
- 6:13lived on Inside Polls for a little bit and for about a year, and
- 6:16then its final and longest home was Russell Krap Okay, I'm from there with
- 6:23all those and uh I got I got brought into four one one. They
- 6:30were doing like this big bush of we want to hire new we want to
- 6:32bring on new writers. They hire as if they pay, they don't.
- 6:39But I pitched them. I pitched them this one column idea and they're like,
- 6:43nah, we're not interested. We don't need another op ed piece.
- 6:46Even though I had a theme to it. They're like, we don't need
- 6:47more op eds. I'm like, okay, well I have this other idea,
- 6:53you know, the car the Marvel comic. What if? Oh okay,
- 6:59so you're going with this dot dot dot? You know, what if
- 7:01I write a column that explores what if this had happened? What might have
- 7:09happened if this title match went this way, or this heel turn wasn't didn't
- 7:14happen, or or whatever, you know, whatever what if scenario you want
- 7:16to come up with? And they're like, holy, that's amazing, right
- 7:21that do that now? And yeah? So I spent the better part of
- 7:27fifteen years, I want to say, writing it's called rewriting the book.
- 7:30Okay it I covered all sorts of scenarios. My first one was what if
- 7:38I mean, there's no other situation that you could possibly do that would be
- 7:43a better starting column for this What if the Montreal's career job dan? Oh
- 7:49god, it's like Dave Melcher like, you can never escape that phrase.
- 7:54Yep, yep. But let's see what else I did that's awesome. I
- 8:01did what if the Higher Power wasn't Vince McMahon, Oh god, what if
- 8:05it wasn't Rakishi who ran over stone Cold? Why didn't we get that?
- 8:11What if? What if DX got into the Norfolk scope when they quote unquote
- 8:16infaded Nitro. To me, that's the biggest that's like one of the biggest
- 8:20ones. And for those listening, long story short, during the Monday Night
- 8:22Wars, the DX crew literally went to w CW where they were doing a
- 8:28live television production and almost actually got into the building, which and like a
- 8:35oh I should I was. If I would to know, I was bring
- 8:37him in. Lawsuits would have been all up up everywhere. And that's where
- 8:48my story went too, But I did it. It was a twist.
- 8:52It was Bishoff. Let's in TX t X goes to the ring. So
- 8:56you got Sean and Trips and you got National Hall and Waltman and they're all
- 9:03and like it's a total the segments a total waste for as far as viewership,
- 9:07Like, nothing happens. It's just a bunch of people making inside jokes
- 9:11with each other. Right Then Sean and Trips go, hey, you want
- 9:16to return the favor. You want to come down Raw and Haul and Nashco.
- 9:22I'll hell, yeah, sure, we'll go to Raw. But they
- 9:26don't tell Bischoff of course not off find Bisheff finds out watching Raw and so
- 9:33he he files a lawsuit and the ww's like, yeah, but you let
- 9:37our wrestlers on your show. So I'm not sure how what we did is
- 9:41wrong, right, Like just things just snowball from there that I honestly like.
- 9:46Again, it's like one of those like and like I mean, like
- 9:50I gus we joke about the Montreal screwjob being said, but like that's why
- 9:54the d's there is like known as like the Golden Area. It's also it's
- 9:58not just because of like all the crazy things happened, the amount of money
- 10:01they made, the amount of success they had, but like every single thing
- 10:03that happened, like the what if scenario was almost as crazy, if not
- 10:07more crazy, like because again it's like it's like it was like, Okay,
- 10:11this doesn't happen. This happens, and it's like, you know,
- 10:13but that was the funny about the predictability. You didn't know what they were
- 10:16gonna do. I mean, yeah, some stuff was predictable, but like
- 10:18you know, like you didn't. I mean it's not like today where like
- 10:20you know, if I sneeze, I can know if occasions saying you know
- 10:24so and so debuts tomorrow nights, Like, but you didn't know who was
- 10:26gonna do. I mean, yeah, there were ways to find out,
- 10:28but you to like literally, you know, be one of the few that
- 10:31had like internet connection or would sought out that information when today like you could
- 10:35just be looking up something completely different and like it just pops up just because,
- 10:39which is annoying, but it's just the world we live in today.
- 10:41Yeah, Like wrestling news has almost become mainstream now, like WNWW have press
- 10:48conferences after their pay per views were timate questions from the legitimate medium, which
- 10:56I imagine that during the Attitude era, like oh my god, like at
- 11:01like after you know some event like uh, in your house, buried alive,
- 11:05Like imagine having to answer the question, so did Undertaker really just get
- 11:11buried? Or just imagine having to do the after Montreal like what was that?
- 11:18You know? And then Vince stumbles with the Giant Black Guy because he
- 11:22legit, he legit got punched in the face, he got his head down
- 11:26and he's like, no comment, I don't I don't know. I don't
- 11:30know if you're still in the rest of but I don't know if you remember
- 11:31the cm punk thing the Muffin incident for a couple of years ago. Yeah,
- 11:35like that would have been I mean not that that would have been child's
- 11:37playing. I've heard of some of the stuff that happened because I just remember
- 11:41and a quick story about that. I was at that show and like,
- 11:46great, it was a good it was a great show. Wasn't as good
- 11:48as your prior because like that was just all about twenty one. It was
- 11:50just like it's just like it's like you can't talk. It's like rest of
- 11:52me said it seem like good luck. But I just remember the end of
- 11:56that show, like when like the whole thing there was a big return MGF,
- 11:58like the guy, the group of guys I was with, and like
- 12:01you know, all wrestling fans, we all just like that see about wresting
- 12:03coms all that stuff, like we all read, we all you know there
- 12:05is that tribalism unfortunately, like we all like want to express our opinion,
- 12:09like we're all really passionate about it, like me and the six guys I
- 12:11was with, and like the ten to twenty other people, like we don't
- 12:15know, there was just like a weird vibe like something's not right, Like
- 12:18we all just felt like someone wasn't right and turn out the punkin being hurt.
- 12:20But then I'll never forget. I'm literally in my car and of course
- 12:22where it is, because I'm near Chicago area and where the show wasn't Hoffman
- 12:28Estates, which is a suburb of Chicago. There's no phone signal, not
- 12:31a single one. So like me and my buddies, like we all thank
- 12:35in like carpool, like we all parked kind of close. We're all driving
- 12:37out, trying out of the arena, and like the second that like we
- 12:39get like a little bitut of the arena. Almost like a buddy of minds
- 12:43call me. He's like, turn on YouTube, turn on your phone,
- 12:46turn on your phone. I'm like why. He goes like punk's going off
- 12:48and it's not fake. I'm like what And like literally a buddy mine in
- 12:50front of me, who was in like a topless or yeah, I was
- 12:54in a convertible. He's like he just screams, turn your phone on.
- 12:58Like what he goes there's muffins, Like what the fuck does muffins mean?
- 13:03And then I turned it on. I'm like what am I watching? So
- 13:07like just like again like if anything like as like as like as much as
- 13:11we know now, like that would have been like an every every other Sunday
- 13:15occurrence with that stuff, like which is like the most random ship like the
- 13:18like yeah, there's like obviously some of the conference conference as they do,
- 13:20they are scripted, which is obvious, but like it's just it's just that
- 13:24it's just that it gives a little more actual sport feel, you know what
- 13:28I mean, which is like why like you know, it's like you know
- 13:30that people or wrestling it's cool again. Yeah, it is because they're making
- 13:35it more real and obviously a lot has to do with it, because I
- 13:37mean it is aw like they were a huge, uh reason why wrestling is
- 13:43a little more popular again because of everything when they started five years ago.
- 13:46But since Vince left, it's just gone so much better. Like again,
- 13:48I don't know if you watch it as much as they used to, but
- 13:50like you can just notice a difference. Like we're like literally I have friends
- 13:52who have watched wrestling since Punk back when he got huge ten years ago,
- 13:56or how even like brock lesnar in his like younger years and that they're like
- 14:01I have friends I'm like, oh my god, it's actually enjoyful to watch.
- 14:03It actually looks like an actual sport. They're not insalting my intelligence every
- 14:07single week, you know, And I can't wait till they go on Netflix.
- 14:11And I'm sorry, right, I can't wait to go on Netflix in
- 14:13January. You know the first episode there's be five f bombs that happen.
- 14:16Oh yeah, that first episode is going to be like I've already seen interviews
- 14:22and I couldn't tell you who said it. I want to say Cody Rhodes
- 14:24maybe, but yeah, people have said like I can't wait to get there
- 14:28because the shackles are off. Oh boy, we don't like you know,
- 14:35I'm a firm believer that you like when they went PG and they were like,
- 14:39no swearing, no blood, something like that. I don't need to
- 14:43see that every week. But those are storytelling tools, and it's stupid to
- 14:50take tools out of your toolbox because you might need them at some point.
- 14:54So, you know, a little bit of blood every net every now and
- 14:58then, very occasionally is nice seasoning. Going with the level that John Moxley
- 15:05does not so good. I don't need to see people bleeding because they opened
- 15:11a door personally, because they got punched in the or they got kicked in
- 15:15the gut, right see. And that's the thing too, because, like
- 15:20I've talked about in the podcast before, like my wife, as any as
- 15:24any partner, you support your partners like ambitions and things they like. You
- 15:28try to at least get invested a little bit. Like I've talked about here
- 15:31before, my wife, she's not like the biggest fan of realited TV,
- 15:35but she likes the drama on vander Pump Rules. I don't know if you
- 15:37ever watched that show. And of course, like I'm sure've probably seen the
- 15:41classic meme. I just walk into k I walk in the room, she's
- 15:45watching her show. Do you want to restart over? No? I don't
- 15:46want to watch this, you know? And then twenty minutes later, I'm
- 15:50screaming what the fuck? And like that's the same thing. She's tried to
- 15:54like learned a little bit about wrestling, and like she goes to these wrestling
- 15:56He's gone the wrestling show, She's gone to AW, She's gone we and
- 16:00like one time she goes like, why is there a time we're in an
- 16:02AW show? It's not like because all I forget Like the first time she
- 16:04went to w show, Like I was shocked because I mean, this is
- 16:08the during the event's era, especially like during the later twenty tens, where
- 16:11it's just like, oh god, kill me. It was so boring,
- 16:15but like a table spot was rare. Yeah, you go to aw and
- 16:19there's like twenty table spots of the first match, and it was like by
- 16:22the we went to one show, it was the third match, and I
- 16:23I'm not joke when I say there was a guy bleeding and she goes like,
- 16:26is every single match gonna have blood? Like yeah, unfortunately, because
- 16:33that's the thing like it like again, less means more because like again you
- 16:36can't tell me okay. And it's the most I mean to mine, it's
- 16:38the most classic shot you do, the shot of Austin and the sharp shooter
- 16:41with the blood no blood, it's not as good. I mean not that,
- 16:45not that he wouldn't do what he did, but it's not as good,
- 16:48Like it made him a badass, because this is this guy's literally fighting
- 16:52and crawling for his life, bleeding everywhere and he passes out. Had he
- 16:56does done out, no blood would have been like uh okay, right,
- 17:00it just would have looked like the guy you're You're like, okay, why
- 17:02did he pass up, but he passed up from the pain. Is he
- 17:03that much of a you know, I thought he was supposed to be the
- 17:07tough guy, but he's leading out, so he's like it's a thing that
- 17:10he can't control, right, Like his body physically said you're done, yeah,
- 17:15and then that aw, you can't do that. But like it said,
- 17:17like every single match they're bleeding, like and clearly it's it's like they're
- 17:22they're uh, what do you call it? Like their repetitions are and things
- 17:25like you said that you make the John m. Moxley joke, but like
- 17:26there's a reason why guys make promos about it. It's kind of chat up
- 17:30and I'm because their ratings aren't as good as used to be. And like
- 17:33again, there's a reason they make jokes about their tenants even being there because
- 17:34they can't feel in a rien anymore now. Part it's on their own fault.
- 17:37It's like they never were they never were really a big like, hey,
- 17:40we could do twenty thousand seaters every week. No they can't, but
- 17:44hey, if you want to keep paying that bill, be my guest.
- 17:45But no, I'm just I'm just glad to hear that. Like there's like
- 17:48another huge wrestling fan like myself. And also you see some of this like
- 17:52here's the thing, like even it doesn't matter if you like wor AA always
- 17:55say that, but like it's just funny like watching people online argue with one
- 17:57another. But then yet when you have conversations like you and I are having,
- 18:00like the blood joke right away, we all laugh about it, or
- 18:02the Dave Meltzer like, oh, why'd you say that name? You know
- 18:04that if anything, if anything, that that's that's the that's our version of
- 18:07Martha. Why would you Why would say that? Ll discloser, I actually
- 18:15enjoyed that movie. I just want to say that. And also I'm a
- 18:19huge diehard, I'm a huge Batman mark. And the fact I remember when
- 18:25that happened, I literally said to myself, you know, I just realized
- 18:26both their moms are named Martha, you know. To be to be fair,
- 18:32I grew so my dad was on the side. He dealt comic books
- 18:36and comic book conventions before they became you know, pressed chunk kits for the
- 18:40studios actually just like guys selling books out of a long box. I So
- 18:45I've been exposed to comic books all of my life, whether I was reading
- 18:49them or not. They were always there. I never noticed the Martha thing
- 18:53until that movie either. It's so it's like that I should have right when
- 19:00I miss how do we miss that? Because I'm not joking. I had
- 19:03a buddy of mine, one of his uh it's either his cousins or like
- 19:07his buddies. He kind of now like I mean, not like your dad,
- 19:10but like he he did collect comic books because his father, like he
- 19:12didn't have a comic booker like she think them, Like he would go to
- 19:15comic comments because that's what that's just what he's into. He was into graphic
- 19:18novels. And he literally said to himself and I remember like it was like
- 19:22like that thing, like all of us are looking at her, like did
- 19:23you know his name? Like oh yeah, both your mother's name is Martha
- 19:27because like you because no one ever asked, like what's Batman's parents who went?
- 19:30Because everyone knows, Oh they're dead. That's it. You don't think
- 19:34that. You don't think of anything else more than that. You go,
- 19:36oh, yeah, they're dead. But then you know when he's when you
- 19:38save Martha, it's like oh hey, and again all film is subjective,
- 19:47but like, yeah, I just I mean, like again, like I
- 19:48said, like that, Dave Meltzer is a wrestling for me, at least,
- 19:52it's a wrestling version of Martha for all of the people that sol subscribe
- 19:55to the newsletter obviously not which hey, I always say in this world,
- 20:00spend your money on what you want to. You want to spend your money
- 20:02on the original Action Comics, by all means that's a great purchase in my
- 20:04opinion. You want to spend your money on fifteen bucks on his newsletter when
- 20:08it's online five second after reposted for free, be my guest. So whatever,
- 20:15if it brings you joy and it doesn't hurt anyone, have fun,
- 20:18right, I have to understand it. No, like I said, like
- 20:21I mean, I can't talk. I can't talk Smack. I mean,
- 20:22I collect Funkos for Christ's sake, and I have way too many. Just
- 20:26like it is what it is. But like, hey, you want to
- 20:30buy that newsletter, be my guess. So I can't talk to Smack either.
- 20:34My I have a video game library on an unplayed video game library that
- 20:40I will never ever fully scale that mountain because it's like I finished one in
- 20:45about two months, but in that two months, I've bought two or three
- 20:49more to the problem. I half so, uh going off that that we
- 20:56get to your podcast here in a second. What what like what was really
- 21:00the driving focus? Like what was the thing that got you into gaming?
- 21:03Because like I'm a huge gamer myself, not as much as you, of
- 21:06course, but like I mean like for me, like I like I still
- 21:10have my original Supernintendo and that thing and here's a funny thing. As many
- 21:14times as you know, I don't never happens again, like when I had
- 21:17my original three six he had the veteran of death, or I had issues
- 21:19with my PlayStation three. Think if I never really had issues with my PlayStation
- 21:22four Xbox or my PC. Currently, I got on because of my PC's
- 21:26my baby. My Superintendo doesn't matter where it is, what conditions on what
- 21:30what other conditions a matter what kind of house I'm in, secon matron on
- 21:34it powers up right away and it's perfect. So so what got you?
- 21:38What really got you? What? What was that first thing that got you
- 21:41into gaming? Uh? So I go away back. My first system was
- 21:48the in television. Oh wow, And my parents got me that because I
- 21:55love like when we would go grocery shopping, or laundromat or something like that,
- 22:03and there was an arcade game. I'd always gravitate towards playing the ArKade.
- 22:06I've always wanted to, you know, It's like, Okay, you're
- 22:07gonna go grocery shopping? Can I go? Can I have fifty cents so
- 22:11I can go play joust? And they're like, you know what, what
- 22:17do we get him? Want for the home? He seems to love it.
- 22:18Let's get him. And this was also you know, the early eight
- 22:22early mid eighties when for some reason parents who were supportive or at least willing
- 22:26to pay for their child to play video games but try to justify it with
- 22:32well, it develops hand eye coordination. I mean, he's not wrong,
- 22:38they're not wrong. But to this day, my ability to beat Super Mario
- 22:42Brothers has not helped me perform surgery or land in aircraft or anything like work.
- 22:51I work for a health insurance company. This is you know, my
- 22:53video game skills have not profited me. Good god, Dad, Hey,
- 23:00hey, you know to our parents, yeah, thanks for having dad for
- 23:03you know, not essentially trying to like show us away from our interest in
- 23:08hot pieces. Yeah, I'm thankful your justification was misguided, but whatever helped
- 23:15them sleep at night. Fine, Oh yeah, that was it. That
- 23:23was It was arcade games in the early eighties, and they bought like I
- 23:26said, they bought me in in television me An Atari fifty two hundred.
- 23:32Then when the Nintendo came out, they bought me that and off to the
- 23:34races. Man, I've been gaming for forty plus years, and it sounds
- 23:40like you still pretty much have the majority of your collection. Oh well,
- 23:44no, the old stuff. I okay, let's if we really want to
- 23:48get technical. Okay, so I only really have a couple of consoles.
- 23:52I have a switch, I have a PlayStation three in a PlayStation five,
- 23:56I have a box, and I mean, let I have a Raspberry Pie
- 24:00with emulators on it that may or may not may or may not contain things
- 24:06that I may or may not should have legally. No, no, of
- 24:10course, no, no, of course no. No. Yeah, they're
- 24:11not there, No, no, they're not there. No, they're for
- 24:14I own. I definitely owed all the original copies of the games that are
- 24:18on there. Yeah, if you don't say their name, they don't exist
- 24:19exactly. No, that is awesome. I I've always I've always tried my
- 24:30best and again like when you're a kid, it's like when you only get
- 24:33toys. Like again, like my dad says, like if he knew like
- 24:36what Star Wars toys were gonna be when when I was a kid, or
- 24:37like he was like growing up, like god, you know what I mean,
- 24:41Like you don't think about that stuff, you know, like everyone thought
- 24:44beanie babies was gonna be the next thing, and then like I'm not.
- 24:45And I'm not sure if you know that much about funk Go, but like
- 24:48their companies kind of like they're okay, but they're kind of like twindling and
- 24:51not like what are we doing kind of thing. And my buddy always goes,
- 24:53hey, man, like what's up? He goes every time because of
- 24:56my eyes goes wow, man looks impressive, Like yeah, he goes,
- 24:59yeah, man, these beanie babies like really good right now. I'm like
- 25:00you, like you son of a bitch? Yeah yeah, well you know
- 25:07when you're close like that, you could say that stuff. But no,
- 25:11I always say, try to take great pride because it's the weird, like
- 25:15your quick little gaming store by myself, you speel the I don't know if
- 25:19you speel the rent consoles from the Blockbuster, and and my mother. For
- 25:26some reason, I always wondered why we would go to this blockbuster that was
- 25:30about a good thirty five and forty minutes away from my house. Reason being
- 25:37never dated the guy. One point that out, the manager there would flirt
- 25:41with her, like we try to date her hard when my mom was like,
- 25:45no, I'm like, I'm in a relationship, not happening any idea.
- 25:48But like every time we go there would wave off any late feeh she
- 25:51had give her free popcorn. And then one day I'm like hey, and
- 25:56I and like, I can't I can't remember why I wanted to rent it.
- 25:59I was like, hey, we rented a Tendo sixty four and the
- 26:00guy's like and the guy literally goes, yeah, but you actually, why
- 26:03don't you rent this one? This one has all the games on it already
- 26:07been with everything unlocked. I'm like sick. Long story short, never returned
- 26:14that Nintendo sixty four. How did you get away with that? Because the
- 26:18kind never charged her, He never charged her a leaf fee. He charged
- 26:23it or rent it, but then he would wipe wipe off any weight late
- 26:26leaf fee. And then when the blockbuster closed, yeah yours, Yeah,
- 26:33that was mine it was great, nice, you got a you got a
- 26:37Bend sixty four for like what five bucks? Ten bucks? Yeah, it
- 26:40was like ten five to ten bucks. And like you know, like we
- 26:41rented the games. Obviously they paid for some of the games I rented like
- 26:45that, so probably, like I mean, I couldn't tell it a coss
- 26:47back that probaly costs like thirty bucks to rent or anything. But uh yeah,
- 26:51and before I knew it, the Blockbuster actually closed not too long because
- 26:56I know that's that was around that time when Blockbuster were starting to close down
- 26:57all that stuff. And yeah, myself intil sixty four and I still have
- 27:00I still have that one. It's still it's packaged safely somewhere in my house
- 27:04and stuff like that. But yeah, like anytime I turned a game on,
- 27:07I you know, it would turn like I said, like a wrestling
- 27:11fan, like I would try to know mercy, everything was unlocked. Cool
- 27:14turn on, turn on WCW and w O. Everything was already there.
- 27:18You know. The only game wasn't all the way done was Legend of is
- 27:21Alda Shockingly but so yeah, no, it was like it's like again that
- 27:26sometimes like with like we all have those like gaming stories where it's like good
- 27:29or bad, And for me, that's one of my favorite ones is because
- 27:32it's like, yeah, I gotta tell sixty four and like sometimes you know,
- 27:33like you know, you're a kid, you definitely uh, you know
- 27:38what's that not fib lie about certain things? So like, oh my god,
- 27:41how did you beat this already? Like oh, just I just took
- 27:45a week and to do it when actually no, I didn't do Jack squad
- 27:48so right, it just a stork magically flew it to my home and brought
- 27:56it in a nice bucket or a little gift basket. Uh. So I
- 28:00do want to get because we're about uh, we're about a half hour in
- 28:03here already, which is again that's the thing I love about podcasting. You
- 28:06just talk. You don't realize how much time's gone by. So I do
- 28:10long make sure we do talk about your podcast because it obviously does evolve gaming.
- 28:11So what was the you know, obviously like the fact that you loved
- 28:17you what was the inspiration to uh start first gen gamers? So top ten
- 28:25lists? M hmm, I'm sure you're as you're a longtime gamer. I'm
- 28:30sure that you peruse ign or Polygon or Kotaku or right, you know,
- 28:37video game news sites. There's plenty of video game YouTubers out there. You
- 28:41always see top five list, top ten lists, which are fun. Everyone
- 28:45loves a top ten list. Everyone gets suckered into them, and then screams
- 28:49about how dare you you didn't rank my thing? Right? My problem with
- 28:55top ten lists for video games for a lot of the media that I've read,
- 28:59had been that they gravitate towards the new and you know, you list,
- 29:07you see like the top five shooters and it'll be like Call of Duty,
- 29:11Modern Warfare and there's war Gear's of War three and Doom twenty sixteen and
- 29:21I don't know mass Effect, and then thrown in thrown in the middle of
- 29:25there will be like yeah and Goldenye, I'm not gonna lie. I literally
- 29:27had a joke in my hand and like you're gonna say, you son of
- 29:30a bit. You didn't say Golden Knight, So you're right though, But
- 29:36yeah, they all they all feel like that, and I would read them.
- 29:40It'd be like what about Contra right, what about Gunstar heroes? What
- 29:45about Sunset writers? You know? And that's what pissed me off, and
- 29:51that's what made me think of first gen gamers. So I went if rather
- 29:55than doing a top ten list, what if I took a topic and I
- 30:00went by the generations of consoles. You know, you got your you got
- 30:04like the second generation, which is the Atari twenty six hundred, and the
- 30:08television and the Glico Vision, and you got your third gen the Nintendo,
- 30:11the Sega Master System and so on and so forth. And you rather than
- 30:17going what are the top ten, pick one game from each generation and then
- 30:23debate it, and then debate it with a co host. So that way
- 30:26you know of top horror game. Okay, well, now I've got to
- 30:30find a horror game on in the third gen. Knowing and there are there
- 30:36are horror games dating back to the Atari twenty six hundred. Great what they
- 30:41exist. So it was a way to counteract the top ten lists and provide
- 30:47a more historical view of gaming. Considering video games the video game industry's resistance
- 30:57to preserving history, I think it's important to to celebrate it and to remind
- 31:03people that gaming didn't just spring out into existence with the PlayStation three and the
- 31:10three sixty. It's been around for a while, right like the three sixty
- 31:15and the PlayStation two. While those are probably two and the most popular consoles
- 31:21of all time. Yes, they're huge, they were gigantic, like set
- 31:26like reset the entire gaming industry. But they essentially they build their houses on
- 31:32the foundation that the sixty four, the Nintendo, the Atari built. They
- 31:37built the foundation on. Yeah, and like and they get like, yeah,
- 31:40like people forget that because like I mean and like it's almostly's too like
- 31:42where I think, like the gaming industry if anything like the one and again
- 31:48it's gonna it's a it's a it's a hilarious thing, but it's a fact.
- 31:51It is like Nintendo, like people always go, why are they always
- 31:53continue why do they still keep making Mario stuff? There's nothing new. It's
- 31:56like because every time they put something Mario on on it makes a billion dollars.
- 32:00There's a reason they made a movie because it made a billion dollars.
- 32:04There's a reason there's a famous meme of every time then the ten runs out
- 32:07of ideas, what do we do? And what is it? It's Joker
- 32:08jumping down the giant pile of money, going where's the Italian? Yeah,
- 32:14because because again it's like, you know, if it ain't broke don't fix
- 32:17it and I and that's a great concept for a podcast. It's like,
- 32:21yeah, like why is it like you and the thing going off like you're
- 32:24like top ten list. The thing that always really grinds my gears is like
- 32:29you'll have some of these websites. I won't say who, but like you,
- 32:32it's pretty obvious which one I'm talking about here. You'll see the review
- 32:36for this for a game, or you'll see that that this game, which
- 32:39like you said, just came out maybe two or three years ago, is
- 32:43like in the top five of a top ten list, And you're like,
- 32:45how this makes no sense? But yeah, if you look on the sides
- 32:49of the website, the bottom, the top banner, what is it?
- 32:52It's literally that game that sponsored for that website. And it just it drives
- 32:57me nuts because like I think, and I think because like we were like
- 33:00the gamers, like we definitely have a voice, and like if that's the
- 33:05one thing despite like all the crappy situations like with Michael. I talk about
- 33:07Michael transactions all day, which I hate, like with all the micro transaction
- 33:10bs go and all that stuff, like we have a voice, like where
- 33:14it's like no, we're not gonna buy into this pett petty BS crap Like
- 33:17perfect example I did. We did an episode about a month or two ago
- 33:21about the the failure of the Suicide Squad game. Why because they just tried
- 33:25to make a game in a universe that everyone loved, the arc of Universe,
- 33:30and try to make it a live service BS juggernaut And guess what,
- 33:34thankfully no one bought into it. And I don't know if I don't know
- 33:37how much, like you know, like constantly you might be playing there or
- 33:43like even if you have a PC. They last week for Prime Days do
- 33:46you want game was for free via Amazon Prime. Suicide Squad. The game
- 33:51came out not even four months ago and it's already free. It was free
- 33:54for a couple of days. That's sad. And here's the best part.
- 33:58They're averaging like via like online steam, like two to maybe three hundred players
- 34:04a day. It didn't go up by two hundred after Prime Day, so
- 34:08like like serves you, right, Yeah, that's one of the major problems
- 34:16of modern gaming is chasing the trends, like right, the live service model
- 34:22that rarely rarely does a company put out a game that actually embraces it and
- 34:30the people embrace it and it does it well. Like how many line service
- 34:35games in the passage just say three years have we watched crash and burned?
- 34:38Right? Happens all the time. And it goes back to what I was
- 34:44saying about video game history and the and the industry not not not only do
- 34:49they not want to preserve, they have no ability to look backwards. They
- 34:52don't like they don't look at what they've done and go and learn any lessons.
- 34:58They just go, oh, well that. Then you know, these
- 35:04forty three different live service games that died in the past two years didn't work
- 35:07of ours will right, No, you were going it doesn't even matter that
- 35:14you're trying to compete with like Fortnite and Genschin Impact, it won't work because
- 35:21there's just the market saturation is just there. Right, you're pushing the boulder
- 35:25up the hill. Like I had my wife asked me this question. And
- 35:30she had asked me, like, you know, because she's listened, she
- 35:32listened to the podcast because she's a great supporter, love you bib. She
- 35:37she asked Me's like like one time she asked me, like, hey,
- 35:38like what is like She's like, explain its live servicing to me and explain,
- 35:42like why it's such a problem. And I explained to her and she's
- 35:44like, okay, explain to me why Fortnite is so big. And I
- 35:45simply said, okay, imagine you're a six year old, and I said
- 35:49this best way to say, imagine your six year old kid. Okay,
- 35:52and you have your toy chest and you can actually have a thing where you
- 35:55have Superman and Darth Vader on a team. We're going against each other with
- 36:00guns. Though she goes, okay, it's kind of cool. I'm like,
- 36:04yeah, Now keep in mind it's for free, you know, not
- 36:07having to pay sixty dollars or as as some companies like to do. Now,
- 36:10hey, if you give us an extra forty bucks, we'll give you
- 36:14the game for free. Or we'll give you the game three days early.
- 36:17Oh, by the way, it's likely not going to work. It's like
- 36:22I'm looking in your direction now. I usually don't say the name, but
- 36:29there he is. It's oh, he said the name. He said the
- 36:31word. But nobody I talk about I talk cry about Yea all the time,
- 36:37and like he's the thing. I'm more than one to give them their
- 36:38credentials when they actually do something right the few and the proud, but like
- 36:45you have like you said, like yeah, it's like you said, like
- 36:46there's this market is so saturated and it's just like these games keep crashing and
- 36:50burning. And then we'll talk about film here a little bit before we wrap
- 36:53up. But like I also, I'm very into like you know, film
- 36:58history and film news, and like the president, like Warner Brothers was asked
- 37:01because of course they had their the Lnceerry short, they had their quarterly call
- 37:05for stocks and all that stuff. I don't really pay attention to it.
- 37:07But the reason I found out about this is because they said, hey,
- 37:08so how come our gaming thing was so low this year? Because last year
- 37:12we had Hogwarts, which made like a gazillion dollars And they said, oh,
- 37:15well, Suicide Squad didn't pan out, And they said, so what
- 37:19are you gonna do, h We're gonna really invest our time and money into
- 37:22mobile live service games because it worked out so well three months ago. But
- 37:30man, it keeps hurting when I hit my hand with this hammer. Maybe
- 37:32if I hit it harder, it'll stop hurting. No, it's not how
- 37:38this works. Gee, if I give this guy another super kick and this
- 37:43time I don't do a thigh slap, maybe he'll stay down some buck psychology.
- 37:50Oh god, it's always funny to me too. This match really just
- 37:54m really sucked. All they do is a bunch of flips and this and
- 37:57how is the um Bucks match? I was great six with twenty backflips.
- 38:01Anyway, God, don't get me out. I'm glad, I'm glad.
- 38:07We have the same feeling mutuals about Meltzer. Srey's a nice guy. Actually,
- 38:10no joke. I actually have that Meltzer like like five seconds took the
- 38:14time to shake hands. But when do picture because they were like walking in
- 38:16late because they were late to a show, which is like you're pressing,
- 38:20why are you late? Anyway? Jesus Christ, Like just saying his name
- 38:24like makes my skin crawl. What a mark anyway? Uh no, well
- 38:32you know what you get? You inspired it. I want to tell a
- 38:36quick wrestling story about Okay, wrestler that I that I'm positive you're you're gonna
- 38:39love fair enough Shane Douglas. Ah love them, Okay, you we you're
- 38:45as much of a wrestling fan as I am. I can tell you know.
- 38:49Shane Douglas has a reputation, especially with some people. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:55it's not a great one. So this is about I think it was
- 39:01four h five. There was a show here in where I live, near
- 39:07Detroit. It was a benefit show for Saboo. He was going through some
- 39:10health issues. M he still is, but that's beside the point. He
- 39:15was going through some health issues. And so they got a whole bunch of
- 39:17talent. They got a bunch of people from the indie circuit, from TNA,
- 39:22a couple of people FROMWE and they all put on this great show.
- 39:25And beforehand there was a meet and greet that you could meet just about everyone
- 39:30that was wrestling on the show. And me and my buddy paid to do
- 39:32that because we're like, cool, let's do that. It's and it's more
- 39:36money for Sabou. So we're going down the aisle and Shane Douglas is there,
- 39:40and both me and my buddy are like, okay, we are totally
- 39:45expecting Shane Douglas to like blow us off, to be kurt. To be
- 39:49sure. Shane Douglas reaches over the table grabs my hand. Damn your crushes
- 39:57it was. It does the two handed handshake where he grabs your hand.
- 40:01Oh, hand over. Yeah, and he's enthusiastically pumping it and shaking it,
- 40:07and he's like, I want to thank you so much for coming out
- 40:12here today and supporting such a great cause for such a great man. And
- 40:15I and I'm just turning to my buddy, like who I have Because you're
- 40:22you're expecting, you're expecting to go hi, mister Shane Douglas. The you're
- 40:29expecting totally. I was expecting to be at best impolite and at worst just
- 40:35like total total profanity, lace tirade. And instead he came on like the
- 40:39mayor's wife. It was nice. I appreciated it, right, They just
- 40:46just I just didn't know how to process it, like would we get tone
- 40:51to the next few people? In my brain is still going, what the
- 40:53hell just happened? What did I do? What dimension did I fall into?
- 40:59I'll that's sparta a quick story in my head, really quick. I
- 41:01haven't gone to like many meet and greet things, but one I did go
- 41:07to that my mom was like, we have to go to and God rest
- 41:12his soul is we went. I We met Georgia Animal Steele at UH at
- 41:15a very tiny comic book shop. UH. And for those in the air
- 41:21Chicago Era will know near mckenry aka Wonder Tucky. People will know exactly on
- 41:25time when I say that. Anyway, once story was short, this guy
- 41:29came out, This comic book guy came out, and he goes, all
- 41:32right, mister Steele's wut there arrived here? YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 41:37We just obviously asked like here, we're walcome to give hugs and all that
- 41:39stuff. Just please don't ask for any photos where he's gonna like grab your
- 41:43head and like violently shake it like like he just you can find you can
- 41:49find photos online where like he's like grabbing like the top of your head and
- 41:51like your like your jaw, not like not like you know, violent,
- 41:53but just like like he's crushing your skull. It's all flap like fun and
- 41:57you know, laughs and all that stuff. So he's shows up and thankfully
- 42:01my mom and I and my one friend we just we didn't even mean to
- 42:04get there early. We just got there and like I think everyone thought like,
- 42:07oh, like he's gonna show up late. No, he showed up
- 42:08actually half an hour early, so yeah, which is really nice. So
- 42:14he shows up and uh, right away we get inside it we're maybe like
- 42:17ten people back, and like literally the guy makes this announcement again and then
- 42:22literally George just he just gets up and screaming goes in like the in his
- 42:25total George like talk like that's not happening if they want me to grab their
- 42:30face and stuff like that, and I'll never forget. Like the first person
- 42:32comes up, he like does it like this pretty much cuts a promo and
- 42:36the comic book owner, and then the second like he stops and like the
- 42:38first person walks up, he goes, Hi, my name is George.
- 42:42It's very nice to meet you. And anytime he took a photo, he's
- 42:45like, do you want me to do the pose? And like of course
- 42:47you're like, yeah, do the things squeeze my head? And of course
- 42:54we are four And of course, in classic classic seventies eighty wrestler nostyalgia style
- 43:01shows up full gear. He's wearing a black T shirt and he had the
- 43:07black pants, red boots, the red stripe, the whole nine yards and
- 43:10I'm like, what the hell am I looking at your Uh yeah, I
- 43:15know, I like that's it. I love hearing the stories like that too,
- 43:16especially because again, like you like you hear about those like you know,
- 43:19those horror stories, because like, for example, I met Punk once,
- 43:22nothing but a nice guy. There's a quick interaction, super nice guy,
- 43:28you know, but you hear the horror stories. Oh he Punk such
- 43:30a dick, And it's like and of course, how did you approach him?
- 43:34Did you go, can I get a can we get a photo?
- 43:36And I said, no, Hi, mister Punk, my name is Charles.
- 43:38May I please take a quick photo with you? Sure, shook his
- 43:43hand really quick, took a quick photo. And then I embarrassed myself in
- 43:45front of my heroes because he used to train at a kickboxing that I trained
- 43:51at as well for a little bit, and I asked him, how is
- 43:52coach so and so doing? And of course he looks at me, he
- 43:55goes, who because I called the coach by his actual when he goes by
- 44:00a nickname. But I'm but I'm never I'll never forget, Like san,
- 44:06I'm like, wait, why why do I call him coach whatever? Because
- 44:08I'll never forget, like the first time, like it was like that George
- 44:10amils Steel, Like the first time I met this coach he did do something
- 44:13himself by his phony goes, hey, I'm coach so and so, but
- 44:15you can call me up if it was Duke, you can call me duke.
- 44:17And I'm like shit, so and then we had to laugh about and
- 44:22then I walked away. But yeah, just like it's always fun when you
- 44:24hear stories about like you know, like you hear like, oh no,
- 44:27like we're gonna hear right here comes Shane, like what do we do?
- 44:30And I'm sure again like and especially well again the moment like that, like
- 44:35they're not gonna be jerks to you anyway, but yeah, like you said,
- 44:37like you have, they had the reputation, it's okay to be like
- 44:39a little nervous and stuff like that. So right, and and no one
- 44:44else had done that. Everyone else would just like you know, who do
- 44:46you want the picture and made out to or whatever. Everyone everyone was friendly,
- 44:51but Shane was just like super friendly right, like like it's one thing
- 44:59to do with a quick thank you for coming out and check your hand,
- 45:00but when they're doing the double clap, you know, the double class with
- 45:04both hands for a handshake, it's like, all right, wow, okay,
- 45:06because like I said, shook, like we shook or do we do
- 45:09know? We did fist bumps without with not alvers with Meltzer and then Alvrez
- 45:14just stood behind him like hi, this way, like oh, like really,
- 45:19but anyway, we got we got a couple more minutes here. I
- 45:23do want to move on to one thing before we get out of here,
- 45:25as I did make a joke earlier, and I lied, not to you
- 45:29but to the audience. UH are going to talk all about deapool because of
- 45:31what else is going on right now in the world. We don't think it
- 45:36like the movies are coming out yet and stuff like that. I know,
- 45:37like you said, like you you did mentioned you are an MCUF and everything
- 45:39like that. The thing I want to ask you is, obviously the MCU
- 45:45is like in a a little weird spot right now, you know, with
- 45:50the public, not exactly the you know, it's not it's not exactly twenty
- 45:52twelve with Avengers or twenty nineteen with the Endgame. I'm with that one little
- 45:57good moment with no way home. Essentially, what I want to ask you
- 46:00is, do you think this is the thing that could get him back on
- 46:04track to those days where essentially, like I said, I I literally made
- 46:07the joke that every time years ago that essentially any Marvel movie Kevin Feigey can
- 46:10wipe his you know what with a billion dollars, because that's what's gonna happen.
- 46:15Obviously at the last five years, that's up in the case. But
- 46:22do you think this is the thing that could set them to get back on
- 46:25that course? And then obviously what do you expect not I mean knowing again
- 46:30the spoilers, not that there's ever again. Best of luck to anyone,
- 46:32Just turn your phone off, don't go on social don't do anything. But
- 46:37what do you expect in terms of in terms do you do you expect this
- 46:39film to be as good as as we all hope to be. Essentially,
- 46:45I expected to be the movie that are all the Deadpool fans, you know,
- 46:50all the dead Pool fans want it to be. I can't see why
- 46:53it wouldn't be riot. You know, the Ryan Reynolds was heavily involved in
- 46:59the production of the first to I imagine, and he was pretty upfront and
- 47:04and Figy has backed it up of being saying, you know, we're not
- 47:07going to dilute it just because it's now under the mcu banyard. We're gonna
- 47:10let dead Bull be Deadpool. So I'm confident that it will be everything that
- 47:16the fans want it to be. I am not confident that it's going to
- 47:22write the ship gotcha, reason d Deadpool is not like anything else in the
- 47:32MCU. Even if this is like a step, I mean, forget timelines
- 47:37and in alternate histories and whatever, just in terms of like the style,
- 47:44Deadpools is like nothing else. That She Hulk might be the closest thing.
- 47:51And even then, no, God no, there's there's a reason we do
- 47:59a thing called Surp reviews, where we review things like Marvel movies and DC
- 48:02movies and other big movies. There's a reason there was no Serp review for
- 48:05she Hulk at least continue on. I can understand why I what needs to
- 48:14write. As much as I think it will do success, I think it
- 48:19will be successful. I don't think I don't believe that success will translate to
- 48:24the next MCU movie that's more traditional MCU is my point, gotcha, whatever
- 48:35that one is. And I can't think of what's next in the schedule after
- 48:37Deadpool and Wolverine. Is it? To my knowledge, it's Captain America.
- 48:42Okay that I think that is going to have to build its own audience,
- 48:49Like I think I think the the I think the audience has been tested enough
- 48:54by enough movies that have been anywhere from that's fine, I guess to Oh
- 49:00please help me looking at you Eternals. Oh I actually liked Eternals. I
- 49:08want that two and a half hours of my life back. I mean it
- 49:12was long. I said that from my slip review. It was way too
- 49:15long. But yeah, going continue, But it the MCU, I don't
- 49:22want to say. I mean Deadpool and Wolverine is going to be part of
- 49:24the MCU, but because it's my traditional style, they need a traditional style
- 49:30movie to re to rebuild the trust. M I'm hoping that whatever this is,
- 49:37a new Captain America Corporates still called Brave New World or New World Order
- 49:42as I forget, who knows at this point. I mean, I mean
- 49:45they reshot pretty much the entire movie, Like that's not a secret anymore.
- 49:47They reached almost the entire thing. So Captain America for whatever it's, yeah,
- 49:53that needs to That is the movie that needs to prove the point that
- 50:00the MCU is back on track. Right. Well, if that one does,
- 50:04then the next one will and then the one after that. But if
- 50:06Captain America four, those sideways. It goes from there. I mean,
- 50:16if that goes sideways the reshoots they did that, there's even bigger problem.
- 50:22I'm glad you mentioned because here's the thing. I think my expectations for this
- 50:24movie are very like the last two Deadpools were awesome, like you know,
- 50:29and it's fine, like we're getting like we're literally getting the dream like where
- 50:31it's like we finally get the Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds Wolverine Deadpool you know,
- 50:36matchup that we should have had ten years ago in that colossal of a
- 50:38failure movie from actually like fifteen years ago now actually and hobviously everyone knows like
- 50:45they're online quote unquote beef, which is hilarious if you were to take the
- 50:47time to watch it. But I think the problem, Like I said,
- 50:52I'm expecting this movie to be fantastic, I'm also expecting this to essentially be
- 50:57the how I put this, I don't want to say, like on the
- 51:00level of endgame, but essentially like if Figgy had the control of the Fox
- 51:04stuff, which he typically does not, and be like, hey, this
- 51:05is this is gonna be the end game for Fox, Like this is gonna
- 51:07be it. But like we're gonna be done with it. The only thing
- 51:09I think it's to be a problem after this is this movie I think is
- 51:13gonna be so good that now all people are gonna on his Deadpool. And
- 51:17also anytime he's on screen, anytime he doesn't drop any four letter words because
- 51:22he's not gonna be doing it like an avenger or anything like that, people
- 51:23like, wait, what's going on here? That's a realistic fear? That
- 51:29is that is absolutely realistic, Like it could set the success of that movie
- 51:35could set a bar that the MCU is incapable of reaching, isn't designed to
- 51:40even reach right right, and like the thing that the thing that's even like
- 51:45more crazy than me. Well, first off, fig said like this is
- 51:49the only r rady thing we're doing, and then he came out last earlier
- 51:52this week saying, oh, no, Blade will be radidar. If the
- 51:52movie actually gets made, shut it won't that that might as well be a
- 51:58Star Wars movie that's somebody get made either, although I do just lose their
- 52:00third director. I think it's fourth director, third writer. Yeah, but
- 52:06no, no, no, no, it's it's still in the box,
- 52:07Mahershaw. He's not he's not out the movie was announced like five years ago.
- 52:10Anyway, at this point, it's an MCU's version of the flash with
- 52:16a lot of results with a yeah and we thought the scorpion came from two
- 52:23thousand and one CGI was bad anyway, But that's a joke, not mean
- 52:28we're gonna get it's okay though, but it's you're gonna the promise, like
- 52:31I said, you're gonna have this precedent where that's happening. Like the thing
- 52:35I don't want to say people are not And here's the thing. I'm a
- 52:37Disney adult, I said in the podcast. I'm not creating some of these
- 52:38like people are going down there and living their lives vlogging. Hey if I
- 52:42could do that with and I make the money I do in a heartpy it's
- 52:44a good, nice life. But I don't understand think people are comprehending the
- 52:47idea of like how funny is this the fact that like how far are they
- 52:51the Disney? Let they go because this is who you know? Or that's
- 52:53Mario. Oh you know right now, that's kind of Mickey. You're literally
- 52:57having a Disney movie that is rated. Are that's going to have jokes about
- 53:01Disney? And I don't think and none enough people are like comprehending the idea
- 53:07of that happening. Like years ago when I was announced that pools rightar,
- 53:08people were talking about that. But it's like, what jokes are they gonna
- 53:13let them do? Because like my father in law, he's been going to
- 53:15Disney Disney since the day it opened in Florida because you know what the team
- 53:17he was a kid. You can do that, But like what jokes,
- 53:22because it's Disney, what do you think? It's always? I mean,
- 53:23it is what it is. It's the Goodie too Shoes image, you know,
- 53:28like it's always the kids are happy and anytime someone dramatic happens, they
- 53:30resolve the issue by minute nineteen before minute twenty end is a show. And
- 53:35but like how far are they gonna go? And that's the thing. I
- 53:38am really excited aout And like I said that, that's my biggest word is
- 53:40like after like I think this movie's gonna be too good to the point where
- 53:43like when when Captain America four comp was called Captin America four, It's like,
- 53:47why didn't you guys do it like that? Because that's what's gonna happen.
- 53:52Oh yeah, this movie was pretty good. But yeah, maybe they
- 53:53had a little like it was a little it feels like rated R where they
- 53:55can have a little more bloods and cuss words that be, but like that's
- 53:58not what makes a movie good, you know what I mean, don't get
- 54:00me wrong. Don't get me wrong, full mail Jacket without the cussing,
- 54:05very weird movie. But you know what, it's still a good movie because
- 54:07of the story. Or same with The Godfather without the swearing. Very different
- 54:13conversations, but it's still it's still a classic because of the good writing.
- 54:16And I just hope that that's not what happens after this movie again, Like
- 54:20obviously, time will tell. And I just ask anyone who is listening to
- 54:24this podcast just not even just with with any movie, don't be a jerk,
- 54:29don't spoil it. Yeah, Like I just let people let people enjoy
- 54:34it in their own time, right, Like, Yeah, there are some
- 54:38people out there who want spoiler, you know, who want the spoilers by
- 54:43all means, let let them go. Look, yeah, well there's plenty
- 54:46of places that will do that. There are plenty of movie reviewing sites that
- 54:51will you know, put in big bowld sixteen on spoiler tag below this line
- 55:00right, And that's for them and for the rest of us who want to
- 55:02go in and be surprised. But you know, you know who also needs
- 55:07to learn that lesson Marvel themselves. Indeed, because the last Spider Man movie,
- 55:20I'm I'm not saying it's a bad movie. It's not a bad movie.
- 55:24But I was disappointed in that last Spider Man movie because the trailers spoiled
- 55:31everything. Right. I walked in going, okay, well, if Electro
- 55:36is in it, and Green Goblin's in it, doc Oka is in it,
- 55:39the other two Spider Men are going to be in it, right,
- 55:43so what is the surprise left? Oh? Aunt may die? Oh okay,
- 55:47fine, like if you did, like if that was even I was
- 55:52like, oh, hey, William Defolla Green Goblin from Toby Maguire's parents at
- 55:55this movie. Oh yeah, he won't be Toby won't be in this movie.
- 56:00There's one trailer and it was one of the earlier trailers I want to
- 56:02say, where there's a shot and the movie like obviously the movie's been out,
- 56:07like everyone knows it was. Even the commercials after the movie came out,
- 56:09like two weeks later, like here come see Toby McGuire and here Garfield.
- 56:13There's a trailer where literally it's Tom Holland he jumps off up like a
- 56:15pipe or whatever, and he's jumping all the bad guys yep, and all
- 56:20the bad guys are jumping at him, but in different directions. It's like,
- 56:22I mean, Marvel does that. They like they change the trailers and
- 56:25stuff like that to like, you know, making like like you know,
- 56:28the classic Hulk and Infinity War classic, classic mislead classic, and it worked,
- 56:35but it was so obvious and it's just like, now, te't me
- 56:38wrong. When I was at when I went to Know, I said,
- 56:40like, no way, no way Home was one of my favorite experiences ever
- 56:44in a theater because it was like it was kind of and we were still
- 56:46in the pandemic, but it's kind of things are getting like a little bit,
- 56:49you know, a little things were easing up a little bit and looked
- 56:52like I was like a football game because like the people were freaking out,
- 56:55like I mean freaking out, which is it was a good time. Not
- 56:59inter'sting, thankfully, they're freaking out respctful where I can actually hear them talk.
- 57:02That's sometimes a problem and I'm sure that's gonna havead with Deadpool Wolverine tomorrow.
- 57:07But yeah, like you said, if you like the spoilers, by
- 57:10all means going it. But if you're also on these people who do post
- 57:13spoilers, do like what he said, giant spoilers, and then do like
- 57:16the twenty dashes below it till like not where it's the first thing you read.
- 57:20You know what I mean? You know, obviously be careful because yeah,
- 57:22there are those websites I do spoilers, I think, you know,
- 57:23with people like who just spoil things in the first title, like Dave Meltzer.
- 57:30We're just going after him today. That's pretty much how I do every
- 57:32single week. But with that I only respectful of your time. I do
- 57:37want to thank you for coming on this week. It was a pleasure speaking

- 58:00remember the last time I've laughed this much that it has been a pleasure.
