- 0:00Speaker 1: Just have fun, Lizzie.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Be yourself.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Everybody else is taken.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Oh, that's so lame. That's the lamest thing you've ever said.
- 0:13Speaker 2: It took me a while to clock it. I was like,
- 0:15Speaker 2: did he just?
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yeah, he did. Wow.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Show me perfect tennis.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Wow. Oh, no way. Tennis! We love it, we live it,
- 0:27Speaker 1: we breathe it, we play it. Spring is here, you know.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Spring is here and things are starting to move around
- 0:33Speaker 2: Tennis Australia.
- 0:34Speaker 1: We were just in the cafe and it is bustling.
- 0:37Speaker 2: It is bustling.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Well, the Australian Open has officially launched.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Oh! And I sadly missed the launch function.
- 0:45Speaker 1: You were invited to host alongside me.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:48Speaker 1: But you bailed to cook on an SBS show.
- 0:51Speaker 2: I did, yeah. I had prior commitments. An SBS show
- 0:57Speaker 2: and something I can't talk about yet. Oh! Yeah, very exciting,
- 1:02Speaker 2: but it's actually quite humiliating, and you will see soon.
- 1:07Speaker 1: A bit like this show. No, worse.
- 1:09Speaker 2: LAUGHTER Much worse.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Secretive and humiliating. Yeah. I mean, I'm intrigued. But, yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: the Australian Open officially launched. I missed my co-host with
- 1:22Speaker 1: my host, Lizzie Hu. But it was just me hosting
- 1:26Speaker 1: kind of the secondary event. The big one, the media launch,
- 1:32Speaker 1: was hosted by Todd Woodbridge.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Oh. A classic.
- 1:36Speaker 1: A classic host. I mean, tipping point.
- 1:38Speaker 2: And such a great host.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Gold Logie nominee.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I love him.
- 1:42Speaker 2: I'll tell you that. He's amazing. Yeah.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And he was hosting with Yelena Dokic.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Also amazing.
- 1:48Speaker 1: And, I mean, probably the highlight of my day was
- 1:50Speaker 1: meeting her for the first time and she telling me
- 1:53Speaker 1: that she's a huge fan of mine.
- 1:56Speaker 2: What?
- 1:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:57Speaker 1: And there was witnesses.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:58Speaker 1: There was witnesses to this compliment.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I met Elena on Have You Been Paying Attention? She
- 2:04Speaker 2: was one of the guest quiz masters once. And I
- 2:08Speaker 2: knew she was coming in, so I brought in my
- 2:10Speaker 2: tennis racket, which had already been signed by my brother
- 2:13Speaker 2: and my dad. Oh.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 2:15Speaker 2: Wow.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Those are the signatures you want.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:18Speaker 1: That actually brought the racket down in value.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And then I got Elena to sign it. And then
- 2:26Speaker 2: I got her to write something about my forehand. It
- 2:29Speaker 2: was like, you've got the best forehand in the game,
- 2:31Speaker 2: Elena Duckage. Nice.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And she did it?
- 2:35Speaker 2: She did it.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Wow.
- 2:36Speaker 2: What a good sport.
- 2:37Speaker 1: So you got her to write a lie. Yeah, I did.
- 2:40Speaker 1: On your tennis rack. Oh, gosh. Yeah, so they hosted
- 2:46Speaker 1: the media launch thing. And then there was like a
- 2:48Speaker 1: secondary function, which I was hosting for content creators and
- 2:53Speaker 1: Other tennis higher-ups. There was a bunch of speeches. The
- 2:58Speaker 1: new CEO gave a speech. It was just kind of
- 3:01Speaker 1: like a Q & A, but just me doing the
- 3:04Speaker 1: Q and them doing the A's. And then I had
- 3:07Speaker 1: to do, for some reason, and I appreciate the gig
- 3:11Speaker 1: and everything, but.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Where is this going?
- 3:17Speaker 1: They put a blindfold on me, and I did a
- 3:21Speaker 1: taste testing of the new foods that will be on offer.
- 3:26Speaker 2: At next year's. Okay, so run us through some of
- 3:28Speaker 2: these foods.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Well, so I literally had no idea, like a bit
- 3:31Speaker 1: of a warning, that the first one was going to
- 3:33Speaker 1: be an oyster.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Would have been nice.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Because if you get a surprise oyster... It is.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Are you an oyster guy?
- 3:44Speaker 1: I am, but I like to know when it's being
- 3:48Speaker 1: shoveled in my gullets.
- 3:50Speaker 2: So there's three.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Things that are about to be placed in your hand.
- 3:56Speaker 1: This is so weird.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Imagine if you weren't, because oysters are polarizing. You're into
- 4:02Speaker 2: them when you're not.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I know.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Imagine if you weren't. You would have gagged on the stage.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Look, they did ask if I had allergies.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Allergies?
- 4:11Speaker 1: But I didn't even think oyster. I thought like peanuts
- 4:13Speaker 1: or something. I go, no, no, I don't have any allergies.
- 4:16Speaker 1: But then blindfold, you know, you can't even use your hands.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And you need hands for oysters.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you do.
- 4:24Speaker 3: You do.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You do. You know?
- 4:25Speaker 1: And this is, I just feel like the tip of
- 4:28Speaker 1: the oyster shell hit my lip, and I'm like, oh,
- 4:31Speaker 1: that's not great. Someone else is tipping me. Someone's tipping it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 4:37Speaker 1: This is, the lady who was presenting all the food
- 4:41Speaker 1: is fantastic. Fern, if you're listening, we love you. But, again, Jess,
- 4:47Speaker 1: tell me. And we're starting strong with oysters.
- 4:52Speaker 2: And it's just a raw oyster, no like little.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh, there's like vinaigrette or something. But look, I'm not
- 4:58Speaker 1: the most refined of people. I don't have the flowery
- 5:03Speaker 1: language needed to describe.
- 5:06Speaker 2: Like... Let me guess what you said. Oh, what was that?
- 5:11Speaker 1: I said, I hope that's an oyster. Because all I
- 5:14Speaker 1: know is like something hit my lip and they said,
- 5:17Speaker 1: now slurp. And I was like, what the hell? I
- 5:21Speaker 1: was like, oh my God. I was like, whoa. What
- 5:23Speaker 1: are you thinking? What is that? How's it feel in
- 5:26Speaker 1: the mouth? And then the thing is, I knew it
- 5:29Speaker 1: was delicious, but I also couldn't say oyster immediately because
- 5:33Speaker 1: what if it's not? And then you're calling saying something
- 5:37Speaker 1: else tastes like an oyster. You know what I mean? Yeah.
- 5:39Speaker 2: What's the main ingredient?
- 5:44Speaker 1: I'd like just guzzle it down. And then again, oyster,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you need to know because it's the only type of
- 5:50Speaker 1: food that you don't really chew, but you don't really drink.
- 5:55Speaker 1: It's a mixture.
- 5:56Speaker 2: You kind of, yeah, you.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Process it. Yeah.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah. You kind of like press on it. Yeah. Almost.
- 6:03Speaker 2: It's like a little clamp situation. Yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. So I clamped and slurped and... guzzled and yeah.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And then I'm just like, and they're like, well, what,
- 6:15Speaker 1: how do you describe it? And I'm like, uh, salty
- 6:18Speaker 1: and fishy. It's delicious. I mean, aromatic, aromatic, um, Flowery,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but not like overpowering in any way. It's just like,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and they're like, what do you think it is? And
- 6:33Speaker 1: I go, well, it's an oyster. And they're like, yes.
- 6:36Speaker 1: And then I'm like, okay. And then they move on
- 6:39Speaker 1: to the next thing. And because the first thing had
- 6:41Speaker 1: a hard shell, an oyster, the next one had like
- 6:44Speaker 1: a base, but they're like, we're going to put it
- 6:47Speaker 1: in your hand and this one in your hand and
- 6:50Speaker 1: then you can... feed yourself right and there's all these
- 6:53Speaker 1: people watching and i'm like what is what why am
- 6:56Speaker 1: i blindfolded is this like the most budget version of
- 7:00Speaker 1: eyes wide shut like uh but then okay so the
- 7:05Speaker 1: next thing is like this uh another entree like delicacy
- 7:10Speaker 1: and it's like kind of got a an edible shell,
- 7:13Speaker 1: but I bit into this not knowing if this is
- 7:16Speaker 1: a hard shell or not. So I was like, is
- 7:18Speaker 1: all my teeth gonna just chip off if I crunch
- 7:21Speaker 1: down on this thing? And then it's like, of course,
- 7:24Speaker 1: they're like, Can you describe what you're tasting? And I'm like, oh,
- 7:28Speaker 1: it's a bit like sweet and but savory at the
- 7:32Speaker 1: same time.
- 7:33Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 7:33Speaker 1: And they're like, oh, but there's also a brown butter
- 7:37Speaker 1: emulsion that you might have picked up on. Had you
- 7:40Speaker 1: known that it came from the south of France? And
- 7:44Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, no, I don't know.
- 7:45Speaker 2: It was delicious. I don't know. I'm fearful of my
- 7:47Speaker 2: life right now. You're poisoning me. What was it? What
- 7:50Speaker 2: was it?
- 7:51Speaker 1: I can't even tell you. Oh, you don't even know.
- 7:55Speaker 2: Like a can of pay. Oh, it wasn't like another seafood. No.
- 8:01Speaker 1: Yeah, I think there was a scallop involved at some point.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But like, again, once people take your sight away, you're
- 8:10Speaker 1: just like in front of a crowd of people. Like,
- 8:14Speaker 1: I was just in this state of confusion and, like,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you know, then obviously your senses are heightened, but, like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: I don't have the palate to be like, oh, yes,
- 8:24Speaker 1: the chocolatey frontier of the front of the bridge of
- 8:29Speaker 1: the mouth.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh, I wish I'd seen this. I wish
- 8:33Speaker 2: I'd seen this.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And they were delicious, and the food next year at
- 8:37Speaker 1: the Australian Open.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Is going to be absolutely amazing. So we can expect oysters.
- 8:40Speaker 1: You could expect oysters. You could expect some kind of
- 8:43Speaker 1: a canapé that has a brown butter emulsion. And I
- 8:50Speaker 1: couldn't tell you what I was eating. And then they
- 8:53Speaker 1: would just unblindfold me and they're like, yeah, that was
- 8:56Speaker 1: this thing and this is this thing. And then there's
- 8:57Speaker 1: just a crowd of people looking at me like. what
- 9:00Speaker 1: the hell did we just experience?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Did you get a laugh at least?
- 9:04Speaker 1: I tried to, I go, oh, that one's so delicious.
- 9:07Speaker 1: It feels like there's a party in my mouth and
- 9:09Speaker 1: everyone's on ecstasy. And that got like a little titter
- 9:12Speaker 1: of a laugh, right? And then later I tried the
- 9:17Speaker 1: new Shake Shack burger. That was amazing.
- 9:19Speaker 2: New Shake Shack burger. Now we're talking.
- 9:21Speaker 1: And then there was pasta. But the pasta, they go,
- 9:25Speaker 1: we're not going to feed you pasta with a blindfold on.
- 9:28Speaker 2: We draw the line at pasta? I mean, if any
- 9:31Speaker 2: of them. Pasta would seem like the safe bet.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I guess they didn't want to slowly feed me a
- 9:38Speaker 1: long strand of pasta.
- 9:40Speaker 2: They could put it on a fork and we'll feed you.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Yeah, they could have wrapped it up. I guess the
- 9:45Speaker 1: slurping was done for the day. Okay.
- 9:47Speaker 2: They were like, we've had enough.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Everyone was all slurped out. Oh, my gosh. We'd hit
- 9:52Speaker 1: the slurp critical mass. Look, it's going to be the
- 9:56Speaker 1: buildings that are going to be added.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Okay, obviously.
- 10:00Speaker 1: Don't know if I'm even allowed to say it outside
- 10:02Speaker 1: of the launch. Surely, they did the launch to the media.
- 10:05Speaker 1: As they're building up, right, on the main grounds.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Oh, cool.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So it's going to be a lot more shade. It
- 10:13Speaker 1: just looks awesome, dude.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Oh, how cool.
- 10:14Speaker 1: They keep making it better every year.
- 10:16Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 10:17Speaker 1: And, yeah, enjoy the oysters and just bring your own blindfold.
- 10:25Speaker 1: This is Tennis News. All right, let's rip into some
- 10:29Speaker 1: tennis news.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Yeah, perfect.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Watch, watch.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, that's watch, watch.
- 10:40Speaker 1: In Beijing, Novak Djokovic at the ripe old age of
- 10:44Speaker 1: 39 beats Demonar in the final. Kind of a, first
- 10:50Speaker 1: that was good.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah, but then just like disappointing, sad.
- 10:54Speaker 1: It was sad because Demonar retired in the second set
- 10:58Speaker 1: with a groin injury.
- 11:00Speaker 2: It was an abductor.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Groin and adductor. And I'll tell you who diagnosed the injury, adductor.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Still got it.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Good night, everybody.
- 11:12Speaker 1: So, yeah, that was a bit unfortunate. And I was
- 11:18Speaker 1: thinking about the tennis terms we use when someone has
- 11:21Speaker 1: to end a match early. We say retired, you know,
- 11:26Speaker 1: and the other guy gets a walkover.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Yes.
- 11:28Speaker 1: And it's just like, I know it's confused casual tennis
- 11:31Speaker 1: fans in the past, people who might just watch the
- 11:33Speaker 1: slams or something, when you would say early on in
- 11:36Speaker 1: her career, oh, Serena retired from the match. And people
- 11:40Speaker 1: are like, what? She's done? It's just an odd, I
- 11:44Speaker 1: can't think of any other sport where someone has to
- 11:47Speaker 1: call it early. Cricket would. Cricket?
- 11:50Speaker 2: Retired hurt. Yeah, very English, isn't it? We're getting to
- 11:55Speaker 2: the bottom of this.
- 11:56Speaker 1: But I was thinking, do they think quit has bad connotations? Forfeit,
- 12:02Speaker 1: people don't want to say.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Forfeit is fine. Quit is a bit harsh.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:07Speaker 2: They quit.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Well, but then when you see the stat, it says
- 12:10Speaker 1: walk over. And I'm like, to me, that sounds like
- 12:13Speaker 1: the most brutal.
- 12:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that is brutal.
- 12:14Speaker 1: He walked over him.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Like a dead body.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah. He trampled him in his shitty adductor. Ouch. So Djokovic,
- 12:26Speaker 1: the stat line for him now. Obviously, it's insane. But
- 12:29Speaker 1: every year, it keeps getting more nuts. Him winning 34
- 12:31Speaker 1: in a row at that point. tournament in Beijing alone.
- 12:36Speaker 1: I think it's 21 seasons of tennis consecutively where he's
- 12:40Speaker 1: won a title.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh. Yeah.
- 12:45Speaker 1: So he continues to just, like, you know.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Be exceptional.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Be exceptional.
- 12:50Speaker 2: At 39.
- 12:51Speaker 1: At 39, but then losing to Hubie Hurcats in Shanghai.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I know.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Hubie. Yeah.
- 12:56Speaker 2: He already... He won.
- 12:58Speaker 1: I beat the old man.
- 12:59Speaker 2: He did it. Is this... It was after that match.
- 13:03Speaker 2: Did he... I saw him sign the camera recently. I
- 13:08Speaker 2: don't know what to do.
- 13:09Speaker 1: It's on the camera here.
- 13:12Speaker 2: Hello? Hello?
- 13:14Speaker 1: Hello.
- 13:14Speaker 2: Hello.
- 13:17Speaker 1: We do have his voice down. I mean, we're not
- 13:19Speaker 1: mocking him. We're celebrating the man.
- 13:21Speaker 2: Hello. Hello.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The other huge news, I don't know how you feel
- 13:26Speaker 1: about this, but obviously Sinner saying he's out for the year,
- 13:31Speaker 1: saying he needs a course of treatment on his knee,
- 13:35Speaker 1: guarantees Zverev will finish the year as world number one.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Wow.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Oh, no.
- 13:47Speaker 2: What is that voice?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Yeah, number one.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I mean, he's kind of Brad Brody's way there, I
- 13:54Speaker 2: would think.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Well, because I think he's like, yeah. I mean, he
- 13:58Speaker 1: hasn't beat Djokovic, Sinner, or Alcaraz this year. He came
- 14:03Speaker 1: very close to beating Alcaraz at that semifinal.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 14:07Speaker 1: The Oz Open and then Djokovic beat him in Beijing,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you know, just a week and a half ago.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Just for our international listeners, Stephen Bradbury is a famous
- 14:16Speaker 2: Australian ice skater a long time ago. Famously, everyone in
- 14:20Speaker 2: the speed skating event fell over and then he came
- 14:23Speaker 2: through and won it. But there is an argument, though,
- 14:26Speaker 2: because he got to the finals. Yeah. And he was good.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Yeah, he was good enough.
- 14:31Speaker 2: To get to the final.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Of course.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 2: So I feel like that is with Zverev as well.
- 14:36Speaker 1: True.
- 14:36Speaker 2: He's very good.
- 14:37Speaker 1: But the term Bradbury-ing it implies.
- 14:39Speaker 2: It's a little, a lucky connotation.
- 14:44Speaker 1: So.
- 14:45Speaker 2: But he stayed in the game. He hasn't got injured.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Saying something. He's prepping his body.
- 14:52Speaker 1: He's prepped. Yeah.
- 14:53Speaker 2: He's ready.
- 14:54Speaker 1: He's ready.
- 14:54Speaker 2: He's number one now.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Put a blindfold on him and make him slurp down
- 14:58Speaker 1: an oyster.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Maybe that could be a new segment when everyone comes in.
- 15:02Speaker 2: So we're just going to put a blindfold on you,
- 15:06Speaker 2: if that's okay, and then you tell us what this is.
- 15:09Speaker 1: In a million years, I would never predict that I
- 15:12Speaker 1: would be, I mean, awesome to have the gig at
- 15:14Speaker 1: the Australian Open.
- 15:16Speaker 2: The caveat.
- 15:16Speaker 1: The caveat. But then be blindfolded with a lady yelling
- 15:21Speaker 1: at me now, slurp. That's part of that job. Tennis News. Yeah,
- 15:30Speaker 1: in other news, while the Shanghai Masters is in full
- 15:33Speaker 1: swing at the moment, this is a thousand event. We
- 15:36Speaker 1: said before Djokovic lost to Hubie Hurkacz. Adrian Manorino beating
- 15:42Speaker 1: Flavio Caboli.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Yeah, another older guy.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Yeah, Manorino's been around forever.
- 15:48Speaker 2: He's 38. Yeah. Yeah, I like his vibe.
- 15:51Speaker 1: What do you think of this celebration here? So this
- 15:54Speaker 1: is match point for Manorino. Puts the ball away into
- 15:58Speaker 1: the corner, wins the match, runs to the back of
- 16:01Speaker 1: the court, and.
- 16:02Speaker 2: A little leg jiggle.
- 16:04Speaker 1: A little shimmy.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Shimmy of the knees.
- 16:06Speaker 1: Yes.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I mean, I think it was in the moment. It
- 16:11Speaker 2: looks like he'd gone to a Shanghai mall and gone
- 16:14Speaker 2: on one of those vibrating machines.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Boards?
- 16:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, that old Asian men use. They're like...
- 16:24Speaker 2: That's what he looked like.
- 16:25Speaker 1: Oh, so it was a nod to the... To the community.
- 16:29Speaker 1: To the community.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a cultural nod.
- 16:31Speaker 1: That's beautiful. I think, like, a lot of the times
- 16:34Speaker 1: they win a big match and the adrenaline's just pumping
- 16:37Speaker 1: through them.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yeah, what do you do?
- 16:38Speaker 1: They have no idea what's going on with their bodies.
- 16:40Speaker 2: Well, all the adrenaline went to his knees. Yeah.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Do you think Leighton's come on? Like, that just happened once?
- 16:48Speaker 2: And he's like, I guess I gotta run with it now.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I have to keep doing it.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 1: And Cruise has started doing it.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's like, oh gosh, I just gotta do
- 16:56Speaker 2: it now.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and they asked him about it. They were like, why?
- 16:59Speaker 1: Do you know what that is? And he's like, I
- 17:00Speaker 1: don't know. My dad just used to do it. I'm
- 17:03Speaker 1: doing it now, I guess. What would your Sally be?
- 17:06Speaker 2: You have to think of it straight away.
- 17:10Speaker 1: You just want a match.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I have to.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Finger guns. Pew, pew, pew.
- 17:15Speaker 2: No, no, no.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Pew, pew. You get sanctioned for that. Really? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 2: For real?
- 17:21Speaker 1: It's violent.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Oh, are you kidding? The water pistols though.
- 17:25Speaker 1: Oh, are they?
- 17:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Water pistol doesn't go pew, pew.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Pew, pew, pew.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Water pistol goes shoo, shoo, shoo.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Slurp, slurp.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Slurp, slurp. This is a slurp heavy app.
- 17:37Speaker 2: It is very slurpy.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, Ben Shelton goes out. This is another upset beaten
- 17:43Speaker 1: by Arthur Jha. He beat Ben Shelton in straight sets.
- 17:47Speaker 1: It was two tie breaks. That was in the round
- 17:50Speaker 1: of 32. Good for him. Like, I don't know. Like
- 17:52Speaker 1: I said, this time in the season, you don't know
- 17:54Speaker 1: who's exhausted, who's falling apart.
- 17:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like Shelton's had a big year.
- 17:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Also, he had his birthday recently, so maybe... Ooh. He's 24.
- 18:02Speaker 1: What did he get?
- 18:03Speaker 2: He got a really cool present from Trinity. I mean...
- 18:07Speaker 2: Couple goals. They're such a fun couple. Always look like
- 18:10Speaker 2: they're doing fun things. And she got him this tribute
- 18:14Speaker 2: on his birthday. It's just a little video message. Let's
- 18:17Speaker 2: have a look at this. It's a video message from
- 18:21Speaker 2: a dance troupe.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So an African dance troupe.
- 18:26Speaker 2: They're kissing a printout of Ben Shelton.
- 18:29Speaker 1: That's beautiful.
- 18:29Speaker 2: It says, happy birthday, Ben Shelton.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Happy birthday. Happy birthday.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Yes.
- 18:33Speaker 1: These guys should have been at the AO launch.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Get them here. Awesome.
- 18:53Speaker 1: That's nice. That's a good birthday.
- 18:55Speaker 2: That's nice. That was on the line.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He got it from his future wife.
- 19:06Speaker 2: I think you'd like it, wouldn't you?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Well, I'd be like.
- 19:09Speaker 2: What do you usually get?
- 19:11Speaker 1: From my wife. If my wife got me that for
- 19:14Speaker 1: my birthday, I'd be like, wow, that's awesome and original.
- 19:17Speaker 1: And I haven't had that before. But is there anything tangible?
- 19:21Speaker 2: And what else?
- 19:24Speaker 1: Is there anything I can hold and use?
- 19:26Speaker 2: No, you can just replay that on your phone. Oh, right.
- 19:29Speaker 2: Put it in your favorites.
- 19:30Speaker 1: She just hears me like playing it on the toilet.
- 19:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Softly crying.
- 19:34Speaker 2: You'd learn the dance.
- 19:36Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. No, it's certainly original. Tennis news. Bublik won
- 19:46Speaker 1: an absolute epic against Brandon Nakashima. but after the first
- 19:53Speaker 1: set tie break he lost.
- 19:56Speaker 2: His cool this is an all time Bublik.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I think this is an all time crash out yeah
- 20:01Speaker 1: but then to come back and win the match after
- 20:03Speaker 1: this is awesome but I mean if we have it
- 20:06Speaker 1: here this.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Is a good reset yeah.
- 20:14Speaker 1: That is violent.
- 20:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And then, wait.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Kicks Esky. Ouch. That looked like it hurt. Eye spin. Oh,
- 20:26Speaker 2: he breaks the top of the eye spin. But he
- 20:29Speaker 2: keeps looking at someone. He's got his eyes locked in
- 20:32Speaker 2: on someone.
- 20:32Speaker 1: His player's box.
- 20:33Speaker 2: It must be.
- 20:34Speaker 1: His coach and his player's box. But that is like
- 20:36Speaker 1: full Godzilla mode. I know I'm not saying that just
- 20:39Speaker 1: because they're in China, even though Godzilla's Japan, isn't it?
- 20:43Speaker 2: Oh, my God. He's trying to tread carefully when he
- 20:47Speaker 2: doesn't have to. Exactly. It's like, what are you talking about?
- 20:52Speaker 1: It's full. He just goes on the rampage of destruction there.
- 20:57Speaker 1: And that, like, racket smash. It's not.
- 21:00Speaker 2: But it looked like he could have injured himself. Yeah.
- 21:03Speaker 1: I think he thought that thing that he kicked was
- 21:05Speaker 1: a bit softer. Oh, yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 2: It was stationary. It was like a brick wall.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Yeah. So he kicks the bottom of his bench and
- 21:13Speaker 1: then seems to smash that in and then smash in
- 21:16Speaker 1: the drinks cooler, the Heineken drinks cooler. And that smashed
- 21:20Speaker 1: a bit. And then it would have just probably been
- 21:22Speaker 1: one code violation, like racket abuse. But then you go,
- 21:26Speaker 1: would it be three code violations? Racket abuse, bench abuse,
- 21:30Speaker 1: drinks cooler.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I'll just roll it into one. Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 1: There. Smashes that. Kicks the racket. Breaks the top of
- 21:37Speaker 1: the cooler.
- 21:38Speaker 2: I mean. He's expressing his hate for his player's box.
- 21:43Speaker 2: My God. And he's so tall, too, to get down
- 21:46Speaker 2: that low.
- 21:47Speaker 1: And smash it that hard.
- 21:48Speaker 2: It's hard.
- 21:49Speaker 1: It is a lot of effort. And I mean, a
- 21:51Speaker 1: lot of flying debris. If a little piece of that
- 21:54Speaker 1: hit anyone else, a piece of the racket, a piece
- 21:57Speaker 1: of the plastic, he would have been gone. But just
- 22:00Speaker 1: destructo mode, and it seemed to work because he came
- 22:03Speaker 1: back and beat Nakashima. And probably the match of the
- 22:06Speaker 1: tournament so far. Speaking of anger, we also had a
- 22:10Speaker 1: very angry Francis Tiafoe.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Am I right in saying he doesn't really get angry
- 22:14Speaker 2: that often?
- 22:16Speaker 1: Not like this.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Smashes one racket, picks up another, smashes that.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Like, I'll save these ones.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I need these ones.
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah, these ones are good. So he smashed two rackets
- 22:28Speaker 2: in a row.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:30Speaker 2: It didn't look natural to me.
- 22:33Speaker 4: No.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Bublik's got it down. Like, he looks good when he
- 22:36Speaker 2: smashes a racket. But TFO, I was like, that looks awkward.
- 22:40Speaker 1: You thought his was a bit forced?
- 22:41Speaker 2: Yeah. You don't smash the racket. That's not your brand.
- 22:45Speaker 1: In terms of racket smashes, I'm going to give that
- 22:47Speaker 1: one to Bublik.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Yeah, all time.
- 22:50Speaker 1: For writing smashes.
- 22:51Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's a 10 out of 10 smash.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Racket smashing is back.
- 22:55Speaker 2: Yeah, bring it on. Hot WTA news.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Huge news in the WTA.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, this is massive. I know.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Zheng Qinwen.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Qinwen Zheng.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, let me pronounce that right. Zheng Qinwen. Do
- 23:10Speaker 1: you say Qinwen Zheng or Zheng Qinwen?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Zheng Qinwen.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Either way?
- 23:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 1: I defer to you.
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah, you know the last name first situation. Yeah. Who
- 23:20Speaker 2: Lizzie I would like to be called.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Who Lizzie? Yeah. That's what people say when you get
- 23:25Speaker 1: introduced on a lineup.
- 23:27Speaker 2: This is Who Lizzie, yeah.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Who Lizzie? Qin Wen wins the China Open over Mira Andreeva.
- 23:39Speaker 2: This is big.
- 23:39Speaker 1: This is huge.
- 23:40Speaker 2: Big turning point.
- 23:41Speaker 1: She's back.
- 23:42Speaker 2: She's back. Because when was she at? 2024?
- 23:44Speaker 1: Yeah, she, I mean, was dealing with elbow issues. And then,
- 23:50Speaker 1: I mean, I slowly just kind of made her way
- 23:52Speaker 1: back into the tour. Deep runs at slams and other tournaments.
- 23:57Speaker 1: And then, you know, the hometown favorite here winning the
- 24:00Speaker 1: China Open.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Love to see it.
- 24:03Speaker 1: Becoming the first Chinese women to win the China Open
- 24:05Speaker 1: WTA 1000 title. Yeah, defeating number four, Mira Andreeva in
- 24:11Speaker 1: straight sets. Quite the tussle, though. It was back and forth.
- 24:13Speaker 1: You know, some breaks early for Andreeva. And yeah, Zheng Qianwen,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I've never seen her look happier.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Yeah, she looked old.
- 24:25Speaker 1: And yeah, she was super proud of herself, I think.
- 24:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and to come back after being injured for so long.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Did she take off 2025?
- 24:41Speaker 1: She's been gone for a while. Yeah, and it was
- 24:44Speaker 1: like a struggle getting back to the tour. I mean,
- 24:47Speaker 1: she had the gold medal in her bag from a
- 24:50Speaker 1: few years ago and was a couple Grand Slam finals,
- 24:54Speaker 1: at least one.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Can I make an early prediction? Australian Open. Ooh. Wow.
- 25:04Speaker 2: That is my early prediction.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Lizzy Hu calling it. Well, I guess we did the launch.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah, the launch is, yeah.
- 25:12Speaker 1: We're in motion now. The grounds are buzzing with staff
- 25:15Speaker 1: setting up for the Australian Open.
- 25:18Speaker 2: And I'm doing an early prediction.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Jung Chin-Wen wins the Australian Open 2027.
- 25:23Speaker 2: Uh-huh. We're not doing Game Set Hats this week.
- 25:32Speaker 1: What?
- 25:33Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
- 25:34Speaker 1: People are going to be so disappointed.
- 25:36Speaker 2: I know. Especially Arash, a listener from Sweden.
- 25:38Speaker 1: We love you, Arash.
- 25:39Speaker 2: We love you, Arash, who sent us some feedback, which
- 25:42Speaker 2: is very nice. He said, Game Set Hats is not
- 25:45Speaker 2: lame at all.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Wow.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Thank you, Arash. You have validated our producer.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah. More than anyone else.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:57Speaker 2: We love it. But we're doing another segment this week.
- 26:00Speaker 2: which is very.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Would you like to hear the audio sting for it? Oh,
- 26:04Speaker 1: we have a new sting.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah, please get excited for.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Game, set, moustache.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Oh.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Is that a rash? I imagine that's... It kind of
- 26:14Speaker 1: sounds like that. Game, set, moustache. Game, set, moustache.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Wow. Game, set, moustache. Carlos Alcaraz. To go with the hair.
- 26:25Speaker 2: I mean, we've been talking about his hair for a
- 26:27Speaker 2: couple of weeks.
- 26:27Speaker 1: Lovely. Thick head of hair, yes.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Thick head of hair. And now he has a beautiful
- 26:34Speaker 2: little mustache.
- 26:35Speaker 1: Mustache.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And as a mustache man, Mike, how do you rate
- 26:40Speaker 2: this character?
- 26:41Speaker 1: I mean, I'm jealous of its robustness. He probably can
- 26:47Speaker 1: grow that overnight. This took me 44 years.
- 26:53Speaker 2: I feel like this could get bigger. I think it
- 26:55Speaker 2: needs to get a little bit bigger, but I like it.
- 26:57Speaker 1: You want handlebar style.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Oh, wow, like an old west sheriff.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:03Speaker 1: I mean, it looks good. I think it looks good.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I think he looks very 70s.
- 27:10Speaker 2: The gold chain. He's got the headband. He's got a
- 27:13Speaker 2: little mustache. I think it suits him.
- 27:15Speaker 1: You look at a lot of the comments online. I mean,
- 27:17Speaker 1: it looks good. He rocks the basketball jersey better than
- 27:20Speaker 1: any of the other players. And I think as her
- 27:25Speaker 1: suit individual as he is, that's like an overnight mustache.
- 27:30Speaker 1: And it's impressive. It is impressive. And people commenting, they go, oh,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you know, he looks like Tom Selleck. Freddie Mercury, a
- 27:37Speaker 1: lot of comparisons to. But I will say there was
- 27:42Speaker 1: an American congressman named Anthony Weiner who was running for
- 27:46Speaker 1: mayor of New York and then found himself embroiled in
- 27:50Speaker 1: a sex scandal because he was text messaging.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Because his last name Weiner?
- 27:55Speaker 1: Well, that's like part of the joke and part of
- 27:57Speaker 1: what brought him down. It's a fantastic documentary called Weiner,
- 28:01Speaker 1: which is about his downfall. Because they thought he was
- 28:04Speaker 1: going to be, like, the next great mayor of New York.
- 28:06Speaker 1: But then he had sex scandals, and he was texting
- 28:09Speaker 1: with nude photos. Classic mayor behavior. But his fake name online,
- 28:14Speaker 1: in which he was soliciting dodgy things, was Carlos Danger. Oh,
- 28:19Speaker 1: that's awesome.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And so now when I see Alcaraz with a mustache,
- 28:24Speaker 1: for some reason I think, Carlos Danger.
- 28:27Speaker 3: Danger.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Which sounds cool if you don't know.
- 28:31Speaker 1: The Weiner story. Yeah, remove it from the Anthony Weiner
- 28:37Speaker 1: sexting scandal. And this is Carlos Danger.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Carlos Danger.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I think he's rocking it.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I like it. And he joined some other famous mustaches
- 28:46Speaker 2: in tennis. We've got the Andy Murray. The Andy Murray mustache.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Do you remember this?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Yes.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Very handlebar-y.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Yes. Another earth-shattering mustache.
- 28:59Speaker 2: And, of course, the John Newcomb. Oh, Nuke.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I mean that.
- 29:04Speaker 2: That's beautiful. Yeah.
- 29:05Speaker 1: There's a lot going on there. That's a lot of mustache.
- 29:09Speaker 2: That's a lot of mustache.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I mean, to me, too much.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Too much stache.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Yeah, you want the beard. You just go the full
- 29:16Speaker 1: thing there, you know? I mean, I've only had my
- 29:19Speaker 1: mustache since lockdowns and stuff because I grew everything.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Oh, did you? Did you go full facial?
- 29:24Speaker 1: I went full, but because of the way it grows
- 29:28Speaker 1: in my face, it was very patchy.
- 29:29Speaker 2: Oh, okay.
- 29:30Speaker 1: But then I shaved everything off except for the mustache,
- 29:33Speaker 1: and my wife hated it, and I was like, I'm
- 29:34Speaker 1: keeping it. And then you might have seen me talk
- 29:37Speaker 1: about this on stage, but because of the mustache, I
- 29:40Speaker 1: did try wearing glasses on stage once when I was
- 29:43Speaker 1: doing gigs in America. And I walked out on stage
- 29:45Speaker 1: and this guy in the front row goes, fucking Ned
- 29:47Speaker 1: Flanders looking motherfucker.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say, oh, Mr. Potato Head.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Potato Head. You know how you can put a mustache
- 29:59Speaker 2: on him and then the glasses.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Oh, yes, yes, yes.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Oh, sorry.
- 30:02Speaker 1: No, no, that's good. So there's the nuke. The nuke
- 30:06Speaker 1: is beautiful.
- 30:07Speaker 2: That's iconic. And then the demons.
- 30:10Speaker 1: I think I have the demon.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Yeah, you're a bit demon.
- 30:12Speaker 1: The wispier kind of, my dad is a ginger man. Really? Yes,
- 30:19Speaker 1: he's a ginger man.
- 30:19Speaker 2: He's a ginger man.
- 30:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think I get some ginger coming through
- 30:23Speaker 1: in the mustache, which is terrifying. It's terrifying stuff. But
- 30:27Speaker 1: I think, yeah, it's like the demon are kind of wispier,
- 30:30Speaker 1: lighter shade of brown. Yeah, so kind of like a
- 30:35Speaker 1: teenager who works at McDonald's Yeah.
- 30:40Speaker 2: Yeah. That's the look. And I mean, I'm a fan
- 30:44Speaker 2: of the mustache. I love Carlos's mustache.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Carlos Danger.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Carlos Danger. But not everyone is a fan of
- 30:51Speaker 2: the mustache. We got Marta Kostic. Just wrote on X,
- 30:56Speaker 2: I think. No.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Oh, Marta.
- 31:01Speaker 2: Marta, not into the mustache. No. No. No. Just a simple, no,
- 31:08Speaker 2: not a fan. A lot of likes.
- 31:10Speaker 1: I mean, if Marta Kostick told me to change anything
- 31:14Speaker 1: about myself, I would do it. You know?
- 31:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:20Speaker 1: If she was like, you have too many limbs, I'd
- 31:22Speaker 1: be like, which.
- 31:22Speaker 2: One do you want me to cut out?
- 31:25Speaker 1: Other mustaches from tennis history. Oh, this is Mansour Barami.
- 31:31Speaker 1: He's like a master of the trick shots and like
- 31:34Speaker 1: watch some of his highlights. He's an amazing player. So, oh,
- 31:38Speaker 1: this is Ion Tyriac. Ion Tyriac of the Madrid Open.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I hope, yeah, I got the tournament right.
- 31:46Speaker 2: Anyway, I look forward to seeing Carlos Danger's mustache at
- 31:50Speaker 2: the Australian Open in real life.
- 31:53Speaker 1: He changes his look so much.
- 31:54Speaker 2: I think that's him having fun.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I know, but I mean, he might show up with
- 31:57Speaker 1: the shaved head and, you know, everything else shaved. That
- 32:01Speaker 1: sounds bad. But you never know. Game, set, mustache. Alexi Ola,
- 32:10Speaker 1: always making big news in the tennis world, was recently
- 32:13Speaker 1: on Maria Sharapova's Pretty Tough podcast this week.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Pretty tough.
- 32:18Speaker 1: And admitted something huge about her brother. He's just so
- 32:22Speaker 1: much better than I am.
- 32:24Speaker 3: What?
- 32:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 3: I can never.
- 32:26Speaker 1: I don't agree with you.
- 32:30Speaker 3: He was always so much better than I am. And
- 32:32Speaker 3: even until now, like my brother is very intelligent. If
- 32:35Speaker 3: there's anybody who's going to know exactly the tactic to
- 32:38Speaker 3: play me, it's my brother. And until now, like the
- 32:42Speaker 3: last time we hit was probably in December and he
- 32:45Speaker 3: had not because he started working. he had not played
- 32:47Speaker 3: tennis in like six months.
- 32:49Speaker 4: And he kept telling me, Alex, oh, like I'm so
- 32:53Speaker 4: unfit now. Like you'll probably kill me if it's like,
- 32:57Speaker 4: if it's a full match. We hit and he destroyed me.
- 33:00Speaker 4: That's what brothers do.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I mean, time was all this time. Yeah, that's what
- 33:04Speaker 1: brothers do.
- 33:05Speaker 2: Yeah, they do. I reckon he's secretly practicing, that brother,
- 33:09Speaker 2: for sure. He hasn't given up.
- 33:11Speaker 1: The competitiveness within siblings.
- 33:14Speaker 2: It's huge.
- 33:14Speaker 1: It is unrivaled, right? I mean, your brother teaches paddle.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a paddle coach.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah, have you played him?
- 33:21Speaker 2: No, but I need to.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Is there anything you can beat your brother in?
- 33:26Speaker 2: Snowboarding. That was the only thing. When I was doing
- 33:30Speaker 2: ski seasons in Japan, he came to visit me and
- 33:34Speaker 2: I was like, this is my time. This is my
- 33:36Speaker 2: time when I can finally be better at something. They're
- 33:40Speaker 2: my brother. And I just took him on all these
- 33:43Speaker 2: really hard runs. It was the best feeling of my life.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Like he taught me everything, like how to play all sports, driving, everything.
- 33:52Speaker 2: And I thought, this is it. This was the only thing.
- 33:55Speaker 2: And we spoke about it. He's like, that's the only
- 33:56Speaker 2: thing you're good at.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I was like, I know.
- 33:59Speaker 2: But if I'd given him another like week. Yeah. He
- 34:01Speaker 2: would have been better than me.
- 34:03Speaker 1: But, like, would he fall over and you would, like,
- 34:06Speaker 1: carve powder into his face? Was there any?
- 34:08Speaker 2: No, I'd just leave him and then wait for him
- 34:11Speaker 2: at the bottom. He's like, oh, my God, what was that?
- 34:15Speaker 2: Why did you do that? It was amazing.
- 34:19Speaker 1: Oh, that's good. Yeah, so, I mean. She would be
- 34:23Speaker 1: so competitive and obviously is top of her game, pro
- 34:26Speaker 1: tennis player, and then just going, yeah, my brother is
- 34:29Speaker 1: out of shape and still beats me.
- 34:30Speaker 2: Behind every great athlete is a big brother, I reckon.
- 34:34Speaker 1: That still has your number in a lot of things.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I mean, Federer, does he have siblings? Even if he did,
- 34:40Speaker 1: he'd still be beating them in tennis, I think. But
- 34:42Speaker 1: they probably can just crush him in checkers or something. Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Because they know how to get in your head, brothers.
- 34:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:51Speaker 1: They can talk shit in a way. Oh, my gosh.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Like, yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Remember when mom caught you pissing in the sandbox?
- 34:58Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. You just revert.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah. It's so bad. Yeah. All right. Let's get into
- 35:04Speaker 1: everyone's favorite segment. This is.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Approaching the Net. All right. Everyone's actual favorite segment. Yes. Yes.
- 35:21Speaker 2: That is my celebration. Actually, I thought of another celebration.
- 35:25Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 35:26Speaker 2: Air guitar, but with the tennis racket.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Oh, that's good. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You don't see
- 35:31Speaker 1: that much.
- 35:33Speaker 2: And it's right there. It's obvious.
- 35:34Speaker 1: It is right there. So you're using props.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay. Tennis, you could do a full band. You
- 35:40Speaker 2: could do guitar.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Yep.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Trumpet.
- 35:43Speaker 1: Trumpet. What else could you do?
- 35:46Speaker 2: You could do, I mean, any.
- 35:49Speaker 3: Any.
- 35:50Speaker 1: This is good. This is great improv. All right, so
- 35:54Speaker 1: you go guitar. What trumpets?
- 35:57Speaker 2: Yeah. And then you could do double bass.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Double bass.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Oh. violin when they lose oh violin is like yeah
- 36:14Speaker 2: actually violin.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I believe Djokovic does that.
- 36:17Speaker 2: Oh does he he does a bit of that yeah
- 36:20Speaker 2: that's good yeah What else you got? The confession. That
- 36:30Speaker 2: could be like the church confessional.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Forgive me, Father, for I have won.
- 36:35Speaker 2: It's so creepy. I can't watch. All right. Okay, approaching
- 36:44Speaker 2: the net. My favorite, and I'm his favorite, Daniil Medvedev. Has,
- 36:50Speaker 2: was it last week? A week before he hit someone
- 36:53Speaker 2: in the eye.
- 36:54Speaker 1: With a tennis ball.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 36:55Speaker 1: He was disqualified.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Yeah, disqualified. He's actually gone and seen the fan in hospital.
- 37:03Speaker 1: Okay.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Which surprised me that he went to hospital. And giving
- 37:08Speaker 2: him the ultimate tribute, a racket that says, I'm sorry.
- 37:12Speaker 2: I am sorry. Sorry. signed to Neil Medvedev.
- 37:17Speaker 1: Surprise you that the fan had to go to hospital
- 37:20Speaker 1: or surprise you that Medvedev went to hospital?
- 37:22Speaker 2: Bit of both. Bit of both? No, I think I'm
- 37:25Speaker 2: surprised that the fan went to hospital. I mean, does
- 37:28Speaker 2: that tell us a bit more about the seriousness of
- 37:31Speaker 2: the situation?
- 37:31Speaker 1: I guess so. But then again, Medvedev bringing him a
- 37:34Speaker 1: signed racket and visiting him in hospital is like, please,
- 37:38Speaker 1: no litigation.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Here's a signed racket.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Yeah, in the racket case, there is a million dollars.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Oh of course a settlement fee yeah but then signing
- 37:50Speaker 1: the grip of the tennis racket that is not gonna
- 37:54Speaker 1: last if.
- 37:54Speaker 2: The guy plays yeah would you play with it if
- 37:57Speaker 2: you go give it yeah yeah yeah okay i mean
- 38:00Speaker 2: yeah why not.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Maybe that signature oh what do you think you could
- 38:03Speaker 1: sell that on ebay maybe get.
- 38:04Speaker 2: A few bucks put it on your wall.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Yeah but i mean this guy's debt perception's gonna be
- 38:10Speaker 1: a bit off for a while so maybe he's not playing.
- 38:12Speaker 2: He's only got one eye.
- 38:13Speaker 1: And then he said blah blah blah whoever wrote this
- 38:16Speaker 1: Daniel went over in person to apologize to the injured
- 38:18Speaker 1: spectator gave him a racket. I truly believe he is
- 38:21Speaker 1: a kind person. Hope see you soon in Shanghai. Well
- 38:25Speaker 1: you know who can't see him soon in Shanghai? The
- 38:29Speaker 1: man with one eye.
- 38:31Speaker 2: Next we have Serena Williams has been given the ultimate tribute.
- 38:36Speaker 2: She is now a Barbie doll. I feel like this
- 38:39Speaker 2: is a little late, to be honest. Serena Williams getting
- 38:42Speaker 2: a Barbie. Is this her first Barbie? No, it says
- 38:45Speaker 2: she's second. Her second Barbie.
- 38:47Speaker 1: But this one is her and her white Nike kit
- 38:50Speaker 1: from her 2005 Australian Open victory. And it's even got
- 38:55Speaker 1: the actual time on the back of the tennis court
- 38:58Speaker 1: that that match lasted. $ 45 for a Barbie doll.
- 39:02Speaker 2: Is that high?
- 39:03Speaker 1: Were you a Barbie girl?
- 39:04Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 39:05Speaker 1: In a Barbie world?
- 39:06Speaker 2: No, absolutely not. I wasn't allowed Barbies. No? Yeah. I
- 39:10Speaker 2: had two older brothers. My mom was like anti-Barbie.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Why?
- 39:15Speaker 2: Because they were like, I don't know, too girly or something.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I wasn't allowed to do anything girly.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Okay. Right, right, right.
- 39:23Speaker 2: That's why I present lesbian. When in actual fact, I
- 39:28Speaker 2: am not. just for the record i know i present
- 39:31Speaker 2: lesbian but it was because i wasn't allowed bobbies as
- 39:34Speaker 2: a child i wasn't.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Yeah well your brothers would have probably like set them
- 39:38Speaker 1: cut their hair.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Off yeah 100 yeah yeah why would i have a
- 39:42Speaker 2: bob yeah well now it's your chance hand me down.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Would you like a Serena Barbie for Christmas this year?
- 39:49Speaker 2: I'm good. I'm good. Yeah? Yeah, I don't need it.
- 39:52Speaker 2: But if you wanted to give me a Serena Barbie.
- 39:55Speaker 1: If they made a Barbie of Lizzie Who, it's like
- 39:59Speaker 1: Serena's obviously tennis. What would your Barbie be doing?
- 40:02Speaker 2: I guess from when I peaked athletically, I would be
- 40:07Speaker 2: in my hockey kit. Again, I'm not a lesbian.
- 40:12Speaker 1: Methinks the lady doth protest too much.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I know, the more you deny it, the better. Yeah,
- 40:21Speaker 2: maybe my under 13 hockey kit.
- 40:23Speaker 1: After this episode, you're going to get in your Subaru
- 40:25Speaker 1: and drive to Bunnings?
- 40:27Speaker 2: I don't own a Subaru. I have a Honda Jazz
- 40:30Speaker 2: with roof racks. Wow.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Not doing much to dispel the allegations. I never do
- 40:37Speaker 1: anything to dispel.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Sometimes I walk out of the house and I'm like, well,
- 40:41Speaker 2: I'm doing nothing for the allegations, am I?
- 40:44Speaker 1: Well, of course, nothing wrong with that, but yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 2: No, I get offered gay gigs all the time.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Do the gay gigs.
- 40:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to, but it's weird.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Imposter syndrome.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Yeah, big time. They're like, I told you she was gay.
- 41:07Speaker 1: There's nothing gay about.
- 41:09Speaker 2: This next clip. Nothing gay about this next clip.
- 41:12Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 41:13Speaker 2: Hot Daddy Pickleball. Wow. You know Hot Daddy Pickleball.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Do I?
- 41:18Speaker 2: I reckon you do. They are a social group, very
- 41:22Speaker 2: active in the pickleball community, and they have a Speedo Day,
- 41:27Speaker 2: amongst other themed days. Let's have a look at the
- 41:32Speaker 2: Hot Daddy. Yes. Speedo Day 2026. I mean, this just
- 41:38Speaker 2: looks like a day at the pool in Australia.
- 41:40Speaker 3: So.
- 41:41Speaker 1: This is a bunch of older, ripped men.
- 41:44Speaker 2: Ripped.
- 41:45Speaker 1: And Speedos playing pickleball.
- 41:47Speaker 2: I mean, I love it.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Why are you showing me this? It is okay.
- 41:54Speaker 2: It's great.
- 41:55Speaker 1: Here's the thing. It's in Provincetown, Massachusetts, where my actual
- 42:01Speaker 1: daddy is from. Oh. Really? My dad's from Provincetown, Massachusetts,
- 42:08Speaker 1: so I see hot daddy pickleball Provincetown, Massachusetts. I'm like, oh,
- 42:13Speaker 1: my God, it's my 80-year-old man.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Mr.
- 42:15Speaker 1: Goldstein.
- 42:16Speaker 2: You're going to see a clip of Mr. Goldstein.
- 42:20Speaker 1: If he popped up in there.
- 42:21Speaker 2: This is not going to make it.
- 42:23Speaker 1: I was worried. Imagine if that's how I find out.
- 42:30Speaker 2: Dr. Goldstein. Dr. Goldstein.
- 42:32Speaker 1: That's why he's been so weird with mom all these years.
- 42:42Speaker 1: We want to bring back, because Arash has commented, and
- 42:45Speaker 1: this is actually his favorite part of the show, as
- 42:47Speaker 1: well as many listeners' favorite part of the show. It's good.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Quizzy Who.
- 42:52Speaker 1: We got Quizzy Who.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Yeah, we got a Quizzy Who. Yes. Are you ready?
- 42:56Speaker 1: I'm pumped.
- 42:57Speaker 2: A 34-minute Grand Slam final was played in the 1988 dot, dot, dot.
- 43:05Speaker 2: Tell me the slam, the players, and the scoreline.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Oh, scoreline with the 34-minute match. You can kind of
- 43:14Speaker 1: get there on context, please.
- 43:15Speaker 2: And no looking up. This has to be off the
- 43:17Speaker 2: top of your heads. No AI.
- 43:19Speaker 1: And they write into podlaverattennis.com.au.
- 43:30Speaker 2: I don't know. Honestly, it's too late for me to think. Also,
- 43:35Speaker 2: I'm hungry. Me too.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Yeah, me too.
- 43:38Speaker 2: And that was Podlabor Arena.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Another stellar edition of Podlabor Arena. We'll be back next
- 43:46Speaker 1: week to talk about what happened in the Shanghai Masters 1000,
- 43:53Speaker 1: as well as all the other 250s, 500s, and events.
- 43:57Speaker 2: And the women.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Well, the women's, you know, junk.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Oh, Wuhan. They're in Wuhan.
- 44:04Speaker 1: Wuhan is coming up for the WTA, so we'll be
- 44:06Speaker 1: discussing that as well. In the meantime, slurp it up.
- 44:12Speaker 2: Oh, slurp it up. What are you thinking?
- 44:16Speaker 1: What is that?
- 44:16Speaker 2: Have it feel in the mouth.
