- 0:38Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. You know, I got I got
- 0:42Speaker 1: another thing I gotta get off my chest. To get
- 0:44Speaker 1: it off your chest might get it all out. I'm
- 0:46Speaker 1: over the mac Joel. He had to feel that guy coming.
- 0:50Speaker 1: What was that? I just remember I saw that coming.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, come on. Joe Caparossa, who runs the site,
- 0:56Speaker 1: turn on the Jets. He's like, you know every bit
- 0:58Speaker 1: of super Patriots blogger, Well, this is these are your
- 1:00Speaker 1: people though, those are your people by us. No, No,
- 1:06Speaker 1: he has to pay us because we're actually helping his
- 1:09Speaker 1: radio station. We have more listeners, so it helped that
- 1:11Speaker 1: it helped me. That's that's fact. That's ridiculous. Well, not necessarily, Paul,
- 1:16Speaker 1: so another. Would you watch the game and thought one
- 1:18Speaker 1: thing and then you go and do this all twenty
- 1:20Speaker 1: two thing? You think something one hundred percent different. Yes,
- 1:24Speaker 1: I think Fred's here to see if I can have
- 1:26Speaker 1: a heart attack. If the team wanted to give you
- 1:28Speaker 1: a two for Zappie, would you do it in a heartbeat?
- 1:31Speaker 1: I think you even got Brandon to laugh. This is
- 1:35Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:42Speaker 1: It is Wednesday here at Gillette Stadium. The trade deadline
- 1:46Speaker 1: has come and gone. No movement for the Patriots. Anything close,
- 1:51Speaker 1: I don't know if I don't even know what you mean.
- 1:53Speaker 1: But what is that close? Like? How close? I don't
- 1:56Speaker 1: even know what that kind of close talking about? Did
- 1:58Speaker 1: you talk to anybody? Bill? I mean there was a
- 2:00Speaker 1: bone here. Belichick is not asking you what you talked about.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Did you talk to anybody? Yeah, I'm sure they did.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Maybe I would think that, but based on that answer,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I have no idea. Yeah, I'm sure they had a
- 2:12Speaker 1: lot of conversations, and nothing really obviously happened with any
- 2:17Speaker 1: of them. Now. Yeah, I will say this, that was
- 2:21Speaker 1: as active a trade deadline in the NFL as I
- 2:23Speaker 1: can remember. Broke the record. But I'm not talking about
- 2:26Speaker 1: the amount of trades. I'm talking about the caliber of
- 2:28Speaker 1: players being traded. Yeah. Yeah, that was a major League
- 2:31Speaker 1: Baseball deadline like deadline, not an NFL one. Well usually
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, there was some meaningful transactions. Yeah, and you know,
- 2:40Speaker 1: I'm sure we'll get to them eventually down the road here,
- 2:42Speaker 1: but some of them involving AFCAST teams that have improved
- 2:46Speaker 1: the AFC overall, just feels like a lot of little
- 2:49Speaker 1: bit of an arms race, you know, team's kind of
- 2:51Speaker 1: loading up. I think trying to Miami Baltimore Buffalo going
- 2:55Speaker 1: and making that move, I thought that was I mean,
- 2:57Speaker 1: I thought, I thought the Bradley Chubb move from Miami
- 3:00Speaker 1: is a really interesting move. And it's with an eye
- 3:03Speaker 1: toured specifically one team, and that's Buffalo. And Buffalo did
- 3:07Speaker 1: the same thing in the off season with an eye
- 3:09Speaker 1: toward Kansas City, like we need a guy to affect
- 3:12Speaker 1: the passing game, expecting to play from ahead, we need
- 3:16Speaker 1: a closer. They went out and got Von Miller and
- 3:19Speaker 1: he's been pretty good so far now, long season, he's
- 3:22Speaker 1: you know, he's got some tread on the tires. We'll
- 3:23Speaker 1: see what he's like in the playoffs. But I think
- 3:27Speaker 1: Miami looked at and says, our defense is, you know,
- 3:29Speaker 1: we've missing a lot of pieces. We've had a lot
- 3:31Speaker 1: of injuries. We're losing a lot of personnel. We need
- 3:34Speaker 1: someone that might be able to do that. And Bradley
- 3:36Speaker 1: Chubb is a talented guy. When he's healthy, he's been productive,
- 3:40Speaker 1: interesting moves in the AFC East. And then of course
- 3:43Speaker 1: Nahem Hines, who who had a pretty good game last
- 3:44Speaker 1: ye against Patriots, he's he won't be out there. Yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and you know, and I thought about that and I
- 3:49Speaker 1: was like, wow, that's that's really fortunate. But they are
- 3:51Speaker 1: getting Zach Boss back, so I think that he might
- 3:54Speaker 1: be able to fill someone again a running back, just
- 3:56Speaker 1: like we saw last week with James Robinson. A running back.
- 3:58Speaker 1: You should be able to get onto the field immediately
- 4:01Speaker 1: with a week of practice. Yep, yep. All right, So,
- 4:04Speaker 1: um so that's gone. No movement for the Patriots. Getting
- 4:08Speaker 1: ready for the Colts. Yeah, kind of the Colts. I
- 4:11Speaker 1: don't is this the Colts. It feels like a new
- 4:12Speaker 1: a new, a new look Colts team. I mean it's
- 4:14Speaker 1: just the Colts might be uh waiting, we should be
- 4:18Speaker 1: take Yeah. Well, I mean, you know, they made the
- 4:22Speaker 1: decision that the Matt Ryan experiment is done. They're bringing
- 4:26Speaker 1: in Sam Ellinger, former Texas quarterback. I mean, what do
- 4:32Speaker 1: we know about Sam Alinger? I mean he has yet
- 4:34Speaker 1: to throw a touchdown or an interception, and I mean
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's uh I mean he was okay, I mean he
- 4:37Speaker 1: was a long time starter at Texas and yeah, it
- 4:40Speaker 1: had some really good I mean, I don't know if
- 4:43Speaker 1: he translates his skill set translates to the NFL. It's
- 4:46Speaker 1: like kind of Zappy to me. I don't know, I
- 4:47Speaker 1: don't see, I don't much better athlete. He's a runner.
- 4:51Speaker 1: He's not a passer um and that's what I would
- 4:54Speaker 1: would would worry about with him. But he is smallish,
- 4:57Speaker 1: like Mike said, you know, kind of similar in statured
- 5:00Speaker 1: to Zappy. He's like six one two thirty two twenty
- 5:04Speaker 1: five to thirty ish. But he's a runner. But he's
- 5:06Speaker 1: more of a power runner, like you know, not as
- 5:10Speaker 1: good as but but like Tebow in a better pasture
- 5:13Speaker 1: than Tebow was. Hi bar, I'll just go off his
- 5:16Speaker 1: first game here. You know, I saw a decent amount
- 5:20Speaker 1: of it because it was a four o'clock game and
- 5:21Speaker 1: we got to see it on red zone a little bit.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Seventeen for twenty three two hundred and one yards or
- 5:26Speaker 1: something like that, no touchdowns, no picks. He did have
- 5:29Speaker 1: a very costly fumble in the red zone. I think
- 5:33Speaker 1: the Colts would sign up for that every week and
- 5:35Speaker 1: feel like they have a chance to win. You know,
- 5:38Speaker 1: if he can do that and they can run the
- 5:40Speaker 1: ball a little bit better, that'll that'll give them a
- 5:43Speaker 1: chance to win now and they gets a different animal
- 5:46Speaker 1: when you're going on the road for your first road
- 5:48Speaker 1: start of your career. I'd be surprised if he plays
- 5:52Speaker 1: as clean as he did in the first especially if
- 5:54Speaker 1: he's kind of gotten used to be in a dome
- 5:56Speaker 1: a little bit. I mean, the injury to Jonathan Taylor
- 5:59Speaker 1: last week, came back twisted his ankle. Not quite sure
- 6:02Speaker 1: what his status is going to be. Shack Leonards only
- 6:04Speaker 1: played two games. He played about twenty four snaps last week.
- 6:06Speaker 1: So a couple guys that we were very involved last
- 6:10Speaker 1: year in that in that win over the Patriots where
- 6:12Speaker 1: you know they fell into a seventeen zip hole pretty quick.
- 6:15Speaker 1: They blocked punt was recovered for a touchdown. So um,
- 6:18Speaker 1: you know, I I gotta be honest right now, I
- 6:20Speaker 1: feel like this is lining up to me to be
- 6:22Speaker 1: like this is like the twenty twenty one Patriots right
- 6:24Speaker 1: in the wheelhouse. They're gonna They're gonna come out and
- 6:26Speaker 1: I think hammer them. That's that's my kind of feeling
- 6:28Speaker 1: right now. I mean, offensively, I think it would take
- 6:32Speaker 1: five turnovers for an hammering. I really do. Yeah, I
- 6:35Speaker 1: think now that could happen. No, I think it could.
- 6:37Speaker 1: That could happen like it did with you know, some
- 6:39Speaker 1: of these other games. The thing about the Colts is
- 6:41Speaker 1: they've been competitive, they just you know, you know, even
- 6:45Speaker 1: with Ryan, they just couldn't get it together on a
- 6:48Speaker 1: consistent basis, similar to the Patriots. Correct. Ye, there, they've
- 6:52Speaker 1: had a very simple that they are tied for the
- 6:55Speaker 1: worst in the league, both of them with sixteen giveaways. Yeah.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Now the difference is that the Colts haven't been able
- 7:01Speaker 1: to take the ball away the Patriots have. The Patriots
- 7:04Speaker 1: have sixteen takeaways too. I think something like that they
- 7:07Speaker 1: do it. I mean, I just wonder what the tonage
- 7:09Speaker 1: issue though, is like psychologically with this team where you've
- 7:12Speaker 1: you went to the backup quarterback, will change the offensive
- 7:15Speaker 1: coordinator you just unloaded in the heem Hines. I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 1: these guys the right, he's got to be in the
- 7:19Speaker 1: wall for this team. How hard they get about the
- 7:21Speaker 1: Panthers and they're putting up fights. Yeah, but that I mean,
- 7:24Speaker 1: but just changing your coach and then like dismantling the
- 7:27Speaker 1: coaching staff the players. I mean, it just changes in
- 7:30Speaker 1: the air if they get into I mean, I don't know.
- 7:32Speaker 1: I just feel like if the Patriots get a lead,
- 7:34Speaker 1: they're gonna fold. And I mean if Leonard doesn't really play,
- 7:36Speaker 1: if if he isn't able to like really really up
- 7:38Speaker 1: his workload, and Jonathan Taylor's limited, like what are they
- 7:42Speaker 1: how are they gonna run the ball. So I mean,
- 7:43Speaker 1: and I say all this with a caveat of I
- 7:45Speaker 1: don't think it's gonna be hammering because the Patriots offense
- 7:48Speaker 1: is just gonna roll these guys. I just feel like
- 7:49Speaker 1: they're not gonna be able to do anything on offense.
- 7:51Speaker 1: There'll be some turnovers, the Patriots will start to pull away,
- 7:54Speaker 1: They'll run the ball. Damian Harris will have a big day,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and you know, and not that it'll be a fifty
- 7:58Speaker 1: two to nothing kind of thing. But I think, you know,
- 8:01Speaker 1: as far as the twenty twenty two hammering would be
- 8:02Speaker 1: like twenty eight three things like that. Okay, I'll take it. Yeah,
- 8:06Speaker 1: I would take that too. I don't have as much
- 8:08Speaker 1: confidence that'll be like that. I mean less, Like I said,
- 8:11Speaker 1: this is like five turnovers than anything could happen. But
- 8:14Speaker 1: I mean they had four the other day and they
- 8:15Speaker 1: couldn't do that. So I looked at the way that
- 8:21Speaker 1: Mike talked about the Colts, I would largely agree. I
- 8:24Speaker 1: think they clearly have made a philosophical decision to say
- 8:28Speaker 1: we can go eight and nine, nine and eight, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 1: maybe even ten and seven and squeak into the playoffs
- 8:32Speaker 1: with Matt Ryan, you know, in their case eight eight
- 8:35Speaker 1: and one, because I know they tied the first week,
- 8:37Speaker 1: you know, nine to seven and one something like that
- 8:40Speaker 1: is about the best they could get. Or we can
- 8:43Speaker 1: step back and say one of two things is going
- 8:46Speaker 1: to happen. Maybe we catch lightning in a bottle with
- 8:48Speaker 1: this kid who we drafted last year and he's been
- 8:51Speaker 1: pretty good in the preseason, and you know, he shows
- 8:54Speaker 1: some flashes of ability. Maybe we have something, and if not,
- 8:58Speaker 1: we won't win very many more games and end up
- 9:00Speaker 1: with four or five wins and be in position to
- 9:02Speaker 1: get a quarterback in the draft because they have to
- 9:04Speaker 1: get off the Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan retrad right,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know, Philip Rivers worked. Carson Wentz and Matt Ryan
- 9:14Speaker 1: have it. Matt Ryan had nine picks and eleven fumbles.
- 9:19Speaker 1: They only lost three of the eleven fumbles, but nine
- 9:21Speaker 1: picks and eleven fumbles, Like, you can't win games doing it,
- 9:24Speaker 1: Like Fred you said, like, how this is why I'm
- 9:27Speaker 1: not as convinced about the beat down as Mike is.
- 9:31Speaker 1: They're in every game doing that. No, you would think
- 9:34Speaker 1: with Matt Ryan's long neck he'd be able to see around,
- 9:37Speaker 1: avoid those fumbles. Those hits not helping him anymore, that
- 9:40Speaker 1: long neck. Yeah, yeah, I struggling, so, Paul, So what
- 9:46Speaker 1: kind of game do you see? You see like a
- 9:47Speaker 1: rock fight, like like eacuations, I see exactly what happened
- 9:50Speaker 1: last week. Yeah, unless, like you know, I do think
- 9:55Speaker 1: this is a chance that Ellinger comes in here and
- 9:57Speaker 1: he's spooped and first road game, first road start, you know,
- 10:03Speaker 1: maybe has a mistake early and it's snowballs on him
- 10:05Speaker 1: and then it gets out of you know, one of
- 10:07Speaker 1: one of those kind of things. Otherwise, I just don't
- 10:09Speaker 1: see the offense being able to just say, well, we're
- 10:12Speaker 1: just gonna come out and go touchdown, touchdown, touchdown, this
- 10:14Speaker 1: game is over. Well, tell me how the offensive line
- 10:16Speaker 1: for the Patriots is gonna play, and I'll tell you
- 10:19Speaker 1: how the offense is going to do. And I think
- 10:20Speaker 1: that that if they play like they did last week,
- 10:22Speaker 1: it's going to be the same as last week. I
- 10:24Speaker 1: think that's a good point. With some of the guys
- 10:26Speaker 1: they have up from Paul mentioned Buckner yesterday. I mean
- 10:29Speaker 1: I was looking today. They do move him around a
- 10:31Speaker 1: little bit. He's mostly inside. But I don't know how
- 10:33Speaker 1: you can watch what the Patriots right tackles have done
- 10:35Speaker 1: the last few weeks and not think I gotta get
- 10:37Speaker 1: my best pass rusher over that right tackle side early
- 10:40Speaker 1: and often. I don't know how you could if you're
- 10:42Speaker 1: the Jets coaching staff have watched what Cleveland did and
- 10:45Speaker 1: what Chicago did in the two games before the Patriots
- 10:47Speaker 1: and said, I think I'll do a Cleveland day. I'll
- 10:50Speaker 1: have my quarterback throw the ball forty something times instead
- 10:52Speaker 1: of just running the ball and punting. If I if
- 10:54Speaker 1: I get stopped and give him myself a chance to win.
- 10:57Speaker 1: So you never know. Yeah, I mean if one off
- 10:59Speaker 1: Taylor's feeling good, that ankle heels up and he starts
- 11:01Speaker 1: to hit his stride. I mean they've had they had
- 11:03Speaker 1: some big problems with him last year. I mean, I
- 11:05Speaker 1: guess it was more about him that big run at
- 11:08Speaker 1: the end, kind of putting it away. That was a
- 11:09Speaker 1: big part of it too. That fed into I think
- 11:11Speaker 1: you get one hundred and seventy rushing yards, so you
- 11:14Speaker 1: know what I mean. I also wonder, I know there's
- 11:15Speaker 1: no rematches, but psychologically, where where the Pats at? Do
- 11:19Speaker 1: they carry over some of what happened last year? That
- 11:21Speaker 1: felt like kind of the turning point. You came into
- 11:23Speaker 1: that game as high as the twenty twenty one Patriots
- 11:26Speaker 1: we're gonna get you know, you just came out the
- 11:28Speaker 1: beating the Bills in the running game and all that
- 11:30Speaker 1: you felt like you had, like what the number one seed.
- 11:32Speaker 1: For two weeks you heard about how great the Patriots
- 11:34Speaker 1: were and then yeah, you know, I don't draw any
- 11:36Speaker 1: correlations like I would say if the Patriots want to
- 11:39Speaker 1: look at last year, it's more the Jets game. How
- 11:42Speaker 1: are we going to be coming out of the bye,
- 11:44Speaker 1: regardless of who we play? Yeah, you know, because that's
- 11:47Speaker 1: they They were terrible. But you think that had something
- 11:50Speaker 1: to do with the bye? I don't know. I'm just
- 11:51Speaker 1: saying that you have the buy and you have the
- 11:55Speaker 1: rest of the season in front of you. How are
- 11:57Speaker 1: you gonna how are you gonna go about it this year?
- 12:00Speaker 1: So like, I don't see interesting, you know, I don't
- 12:02Speaker 1: see any correlations with last year's Colts game in this
- 12:05Speaker 1: year's Colts game. You know, it's it was once last year,
- 12:09Speaker 1: now it's Sam l you know, it's just you know, well,
- 12:12Speaker 1: the correlation I see a little bit lining up. And
- 12:15Speaker 1: I mean I think it's gonna whether you agree with
- 12:18Speaker 1: Paul or you know, you kind of feel me, it's
- 12:19Speaker 1: gonna be a little bit more. I mean, I think
- 12:21Speaker 1: the Patriots will win this game. So I think they're
- 12:22Speaker 1: gonna go into the bye, and they're gonna go into
- 12:25Speaker 1: their by having won two games. You know, they'll probably
- 12:27Speaker 1: be in a playoff spot quote unquote at this point
- 12:30Speaker 1: in the season, so you know there'll be some buzz.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It'll it. They'll feel pretty good and they'll come out,
- 12:33Speaker 1: you know, against the Jets. We'll see how that one goes.
- 12:35Speaker 1: But you know, I think it's just at the very least,
- 12:38Speaker 1: just an opportunity to have a winning record, have a
- 12:42Speaker 1: couple of weeks to kind of reset, maybe refocus, and
- 12:44Speaker 1: maybe figure out some things. So it's a good opportunity.
- 12:47Speaker 1: I'm excited just to get to kind of the buy.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I just feel like that's kind of I think having
- 12:51Speaker 1: the bye it's a good opportunity. The question is how
- 12:53Speaker 1: are they going to handle it? You know, like are
- 12:54Speaker 1: they gonna come out of that by having figured some
- 12:57Speaker 1: things out or is it just going to be more
- 12:59Speaker 1: of this same or you know, Yeah, And that's why
- 13:01Speaker 1: I almost like I probably would almost prefer maybe Paul's
- 13:04Speaker 1: outlook on the game where if it is another struggle
- 13:06Speaker 1: that they're not going to go into the buy, where hey,
- 13:08Speaker 1: if it kind of clicks and they make some plays
- 13:10Speaker 1: and they win by a few scores and then maybe
- 13:12Speaker 1: they're getting a little you know, then the hype trains
- 13:13Speaker 1: were only again take the win. Like I just don't
- 13:16Speaker 1: and I'm not making fun of, you know, but I
- 13:19Speaker 1: don't mean this to not like but like they have
- 13:22Speaker 1: three four and one and you're four and four and
- 13:23Speaker 1: we're like, I mean, if they if they only win
- 13:25Speaker 1: by a little like, I mean, we have problems. Like
- 13:28Speaker 1: I don't get it. I just don't get what people
- 13:30Speaker 1: think the Patriots are or have been for three years,
- 13:33Speaker 1: right like, until something changes, this is what they are,
- 13:38Speaker 1: right Yeah, And I think they could blow doors off
- 13:41Speaker 1: on Sunday. I do I think that that could happen.
- 13:43Speaker 1: I think Mike's scenario could happen. But in my mind,
- 13:47Speaker 1: in order for that to happen, the other team has
- 13:49Speaker 1: to help you. I don't think you're lining up no
- 13:51Speaker 1: turnovers in the game and winning by four touchdowns. I
- 13:54Speaker 1: agree with you on that point. I think you got
- 13:56Speaker 1: you gotta have some help from the other team. I
- 13:58Speaker 1: just I just wonder if Indies couldn't be able to
- 14:00Speaker 1: move them. But I do think I do think the
- 14:01Speaker 1: Patriots will win the game because I think they have
- 14:04Speaker 1: more players on offense than the Colts do. I think
- 14:08Speaker 1: they both have problems on offense. The Patriots had fewer problems,
- 14:11Speaker 1: Oh injuries, gotten rid of guys. I mean it's a
- 14:13Speaker 1: different team. I mean, I think the three receivers. They
- 14:15Speaker 1: got Pierce. I think you liked piercing in the drafted too,
- 14:17Speaker 1: for you did like fred was on Alec Pierce. He did.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I gave you credit for these Freddy? Are you you're
- 14:23Speaker 1: like looking at me like, um, got like three heads
- 14:26Speaker 1: like you? That was one of the guys that you
- 14:28Speaker 1: kind of liked. No, I identify some players and you know, yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 1: now I won't say that. I think he's been kind
- 14:34Speaker 1: of disappointing. But you know whatever, I didn't really like
- 14:37Speaker 1: him that much. I didn't. I didn't love him. I
- 14:39Speaker 1: thought he was okay. But they've they've used him a
- 14:41Speaker 1: little bit more recently as a downfield guy. Yeah, and
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know they've been they've been making what are you
- 14:46Speaker 1: laughing at him? There? Oh, big heads in the house
- 14:48Speaker 1: to get you yet you bring your money? Yeah? How
- 14:53Speaker 1: much you have to pay us to get on the air?
- 14:55Speaker 1: How much? How much you got to pay us to
- 14:57Speaker 1: be on the air. He walks out where you're going?
- 15:02Speaker 1: We want we want you to be able to talk
- 15:03Speaker 1: and have someone hear it. Ah, wow, oh okay, he's
- 15:09Speaker 1: doing drugs? What's going on out there? As I had
- 15:14Speaker 1: covid andy and this is a protocol. He's a COVID bro. Yeah,
- 15:21Speaker 1: that's right, I'm learning it forever that he's the pro
- 15:24Speaker 1: you can call. Oh wow, closer he already do is hit?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Oh okay, it's quick. Yeah, I know, Alec Pierce. Back
- 15:32Speaker 1: to the Colts. I do you know Michael Pittman, Paris Campbell,
- 15:36Speaker 1: Alec Pierce. I mean, I think they're very similar to
- 15:38Speaker 1: Jacobey Myers, DeVante Parker and you know, Kendrick Bourne or whoever.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I think I think they have three kind of secondary
- 15:46Speaker 1: receivers there, you know what I mean. I don't think
- 15:48Speaker 1: that there's a stud you know, among that group, And
- 15:51Speaker 1: like the Patriots, any given week, one of those guys
- 15:54Speaker 1: can emerge as the guy who catches eight balls this week.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Doesn't have to be the one, you know, the number
- 15:59Speaker 1: one receiver. That's what's funny about that group. Pause. I
- 16:01Speaker 1: feel like that's they're kind of doing what we did,
- 16:03Speaker 1: which is like just take a Day two guy, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: like they're kind of stuck in those Day two guys
- 16:06Speaker 1: that nobody's busted out yet, right might like you might
- 16:08Speaker 1: have hold good, But I think they're good. I mean,
- 16:10Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think there're anybody. I think I
- 16:12Speaker 1: have their stats here somewhere. Yeah, it's it's a fairly
- 16:15Speaker 1: middling I believe it's Pittman with fifty one catches for
- 16:20Speaker 1: five hundred and twenty eight yards in a touchdown, Campbell
- 16:23Speaker 1: with thirty for two eighty two and pierces. Like I said,
- 16:25Speaker 1: come on a little bit lately, twenty four for three
- 16:28Speaker 1: seventy three, averaging fifteen and a half a catch. So
- 16:30Speaker 1: that indicates they're trying to get him as a as
- 16:33Speaker 1: a big play guy. But Hines was a guy that,
- 16:35Speaker 1: like I, you know, twenty five catches. He was a
- 16:37Speaker 1: guy they relied on. I think Zach Moss can can
- 16:40Speaker 1: do that, But I think that's asking a little bit
- 16:43Speaker 1: of a guy who you know, to catch passes. I
- 16:45Speaker 1: think is a little bit more scheme related, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 1: as a running back, as opposed to just say, well
- 16:50Speaker 1: he's a running back. We could just hit him the
- 16:51Speaker 1: ball and you know this you work on instinct there. Yeah. Um,
- 16:56Speaker 1: I was forgot to look it up. But what's the
- 16:58Speaker 1: Patriots home record over the last three years including this year? Okay,
- 17:03Speaker 1: if you give me some time, I'll just figure it
- 17:05Speaker 1: out off top of my head. Let's work shop. But no,
- 17:08Speaker 1: you guys can talk. I'm not doing worrying about that.
- 17:12Speaker 1: And then the second thing is how do you think
- 17:15Speaker 1: the fans will be in this game? I think that's
- 17:18Speaker 1: a great question, Fred, How forgiving of mistakes will they
- 17:21Speaker 1: be on offer? I think you can get wild differences.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I think if Mike's thing comes through and like they
- 17:26Speaker 1: get the opening kick and mac Jones goes like six
- 17:29Speaker 1: for six in the opening drive, they go down and
- 17:30Speaker 1: score a touchdown it, you know they'll be playing Return
- 17:33Speaker 1: of the Mac in the stadium. They'll be going crazy.
- 17:36Speaker 1: And no, no, no, I'm not being stuck as I
- 17:39Speaker 1: think that that will happen. I think I've seen this
- 17:41Speaker 1: crowd do. They'll embrace him, yeah, you know, like oh
- 17:43Speaker 1: you you it's like Castanza. You didn't think I was
- 17:47Speaker 1: serious about that two weeks ago. They'll embrace him. Yeah.
- 17:50Speaker 1: If it goes bad, ye like it did in the
- 17:52Speaker 1: Jets game or you know the three and out and well, yeah,
- 17:57Speaker 1: so you're gonna be calling for Zampie again. You don't
- 17:59Speaker 1: think that they care about Rob Nikovic or Devin mccordy
- 18:03Speaker 1: calling them out. Oh what Niko was calling people out? Well, yeah,
- 18:06Speaker 1: I didn't see. He said that the fans shouldn't be booing,
- 18:09Speaker 1: you know, Matt Jones and so on, Like he said,
- 18:12Speaker 1: what are we doing? So what do you think they
- 18:14Speaker 1: boo everybody? I win games, win games, and they won't booy.
- 18:19Speaker 1: They'll love you forever if you win games. I mean,
- 18:21Speaker 1: I mean, I get I get it. But there's gonna
- 18:23Speaker 1: be people out there maliciously trying to start cheers because
- 18:25Speaker 1: they don't give I think the boot. To me, the
- 18:27Speaker 1: booing is more acceptable than the calling for Zappi. You know,
- 18:31Speaker 1: the Zappie feels like it's uh, but I think they're
- 18:35Speaker 1: kind of one and the same. Yeah, I know, but
- 18:37Speaker 1: it's like your boo's performance, saying you've got it, you
- 18:41Speaker 1: need to do better. Um. To me, that's a little
- 18:44Speaker 1: bit different than calling for the other guy. Yeah, we've
- 18:46Speaker 1: had it with you, we're done with you. Yeah. Well,
- 18:49Speaker 1: but I think it's uh, it's just kind of gotten
- 18:51Speaker 1: combined into one thing because of the timing of it all.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And Zappie had played kind of well, like had you know,
- 18:55Speaker 1: had had Matt just kind of been playing like, say
- 18:58Speaker 1: okay and playing bad. I don't think they'd ever be
- 19:00Speaker 1: cheering for Zappy had they never seen Zappy come out
- 19:02Speaker 1: within a game. I know I said it yesterday as
- 19:04Speaker 1: kind of a joke, but I said, you know, would
- 19:06Speaker 1: you take it too for for Zappy? But all those
- 19:08Speaker 1: people that think that Zappy is better than Jones? Would they? Yeah,
- 19:12Speaker 1: what what do you think that they think Zapp? I
- 19:15Speaker 1: think they would. I think that they would. I think
- 19:17Speaker 1: they would. I think they know. I think that they're
- 19:19Speaker 1: just looking for something different, you know, something different that
- 19:22Speaker 1: looked as we talked about yesterday, a little bit um,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you know, more successful, more functional, with all the factors
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, taken into account. But um, it's a good
- 19:30Speaker 1: chance for Mac. I mean, I think if the game
- 19:32Speaker 1: does unfold favorably, like and I didn't even want to say,
- 19:35Speaker 1: like they get the ball and they go right down
- 19:37Speaker 1: the field like you know, it's they get an interception
- 19:39Speaker 1: off the very first possession, they're set up inside their
- 19:42Speaker 1: thirty bing bang boom, they're in seven nothing, everybody's feeling good.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I mean, that's the that's the Patriots formula for success.
- 19:48Speaker 1: So I think if Mat can get you know, just
- 19:50Speaker 1: get one of those games, um, it would be really
- 19:53Speaker 1: helpful to him. And I think if the fans started
- 19:55Speaker 1: to get behind him. It might be you know a
- 19:57Speaker 1: little bit of a catalyst into the into the bye
- 19:59Speaker 1: week and into next season, or not next season, into
- 20:01Speaker 1: the you know, second part of the season where everybody
- 20:03Speaker 1: then maybe is on board with Mac. Yeah. I don't know.
- 20:07Speaker 1: I don't know, but it's gonna be fun. I do
- 20:09Speaker 1: wonder if I do wonder, at what point though Mac
- 20:11Speaker 1: can can put all this zappy stuff down and to
- 20:14Speaker 1: the point where all right, he can have some bad
- 20:16Speaker 1: moments out there and he's well, yeah, that's it. Like
- 20:20Speaker 1: for example, I know, I hate bringing up Tom Brady,
- 20:23Speaker 1: but like the last game with the Bucks, I mean,
- 20:27Speaker 1: the offense looked terrible, but you can tell Brady was
- 20:30Speaker 1: a good quarterback, you know what I mean, Like the
- 20:31Speaker 1: passes were there, you know, um, there was other things
- 20:35Speaker 1: going around. And now he didn't play a you know,
- 20:38Speaker 1: he wasn't one hundred percent good, like he had his moments,
- 20:41Speaker 1: but you can tell, Okay, he knows what's going on.
- 20:45Speaker 1: You know, he's delivering the ball. There's decisiveness, you know,
- 20:49Speaker 1: that type of thing, and I think you need to
- 20:51Speaker 1: see that with Mac. You know, I'm not saying that
- 20:53Speaker 1: he has to throw for four hundred yards. I'm just saying,
- 20:56Speaker 1: we need to see the decisiveness, we need to see
- 20:58Speaker 1: the accuracy, we need to see the mental part of
- 21:02Speaker 1: the game that we're told is his you know, you know,
- 21:05Speaker 1: one of his assets. I throw pocket presents into that lab. Yeah,
- 21:09Speaker 1: which is all part of it. But I think that
- 21:11Speaker 1: that's just a sign of confidence that and I think
- 21:14Speaker 1: that the offensive line has to earn max trust in
- 21:16Speaker 1: that regard. Like I think that they have to, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 1: come out and play really well and just have to
- 21:20Speaker 1: build that trust with him. But just as they talked
- 21:23Speaker 1: about three or four times yesterday, just being able to
- 21:26Speaker 1: step up, make a little step and deliver the ball.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I think that that would go a long way. And
- 21:31Speaker 1: he has it. I know he can do it. I
- 21:32Speaker 1: saw him do it last year. It's just I wonder though,
- 21:36Speaker 1: from like a quarterbacks perspective, and this is probably true,
- 21:40Speaker 1: just you know, every year is its own adventure in
- 21:42Speaker 1: terms of even when it's the same guy's blocking for you,
- 21:44Speaker 1: once you kind of get out of that rhythm of hey,
- 21:47Speaker 1: I know these guys got my back, and you're a
- 21:48Speaker 1: little bit like you know, looking sideways here and there
- 21:51Speaker 1: at the right tackle, thinking oh god, you know, he
- 21:53Speaker 1: might be coming right into my lap in a second.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I think that's just of everything right now, we talk
- 21:58Speaker 1: about the offense, I think that's the thing that that
- 22:00Speaker 1: I harp on the most, is just getting the offensive
- 22:03Speaker 1: line to even give to give Hiack the opportunity to
- 22:06Speaker 1: do what I think he can. Well, it's it's been
- 22:08Speaker 1: a confluence of negative things since training camp, you know, uh,
- 22:14Speaker 1: you know, just the changing of the coaches, the losing
- 22:16Speaker 1: of coaches, then the you know, the the changing of coaches,
- 22:19Speaker 1: the changing of the offense. Um, it hasn't looked right
- 22:24Speaker 1: since training camp. And you know, I don't I don't
- 22:29Speaker 1: know what needs to happen in order to get it right.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Like it could be a lost cause for this season anyway,
- 22:35Speaker 1: you know. Um, but it's just the offense has never
- 22:39Speaker 1: been able to find itself, Like who are we? You know,
- 22:42Speaker 1: thank god from Ramond Jerry Stevenson. You know, at least
- 22:45Speaker 1: we know we've got somebody in him. I'm glad you
- 22:47Speaker 1: brought him. Yeah, I'm glad you brought him. Remember when
- 22:50Speaker 1: when I had said yesterday that I felt like they
- 22:52Speaker 1: probably would be still for and for so someone on
- 22:55Speaker 1: Twitter said that I said that he was irrelevant. Oh god,
- 22:57Speaker 1: despite the fact that I said I called him the
- 22:59Speaker 1: best play or in the team, right, I called him irrelevant?
- 23:02Speaker 1: Right um followed up by oh, you missed the part
- 23:05Speaker 1: when he completely dismissed all the All twenty tours, which
- 23:09Speaker 1: was exactly the opposite. I said All twenty tours completely
- 23:12Speaker 1: dismiss us. Yeah, well me specifically in this case, those
- 23:16Speaker 1: who don't watch All twenty two. They have no respect
- 23:19Speaker 1: for you if you don't do what they do. So
- 23:23Speaker 1: just people. Some of the Twitter folks aren't too happy.
- 23:27Speaker 1: One of one of those guys I think, and I'm
- 23:29Speaker 1: not positive on this, but one of those guys I
- 23:31Speaker 1: think is the guy that Evan blocked because it was
- 23:34Speaker 1: a Buffalo guy. Wasn't there all like a Buffalo guy?
- 23:37Speaker 1: That guy the guy we were talking about texts last night.
- 23:39Speaker 1: He was all over the map. I'm like, what is
- 23:41Speaker 1: your allegiance? He was like Sabers black Hawks. I think
- 23:45Speaker 1: that's the guy. That's a guy. I think that's the
- 23:46Speaker 1: guy that Evan blocked, which I don't really like. I
- 23:48Speaker 1: don't really care, like I believe me. There's more people
- 23:52Speaker 1: on Twitter that call me like fat in whatever, like
- 23:55Speaker 1: it doesn't, and honestly it doesn't bug me. The only
- 23:58Speaker 1: thing that does bug me is when I credited with
- 24:00Speaker 1: saying things that I didn't say. Yeah, that bugs me. Yeah, yeah,
- 24:05Speaker 1: because now someone you know, thankfully in this case, it's
- 24:08Speaker 1: not someone that it's not like going viral because it's
- 24:10Speaker 1: not you know, like Mike Felger tweeted out that I
- 24:14Speaker 1: said something, you know, when he actually has a following
- 24:16Speaker 1: and people are gonna see it, like so, but I
- 24:19Speaker 1: did not say that Ramandre Stevenson was irrelevant. No. Fred
- 24:22Speaker 1: immediately snapped his head around when I said that, like
- 24:25Speaker 1: as if to say, you didn't say that, and I
- 24:27Speaker 1: didn't dismiss the ALL twenty I don't like all twenty two,
- 24:32Speaker 1: but I don't dismiss all twenty two opinion all twenty
- 24:36Speaker 1: two opinions. Dismiss those who don't do all twenty two
- 24:39Speaker 1: is what I said yesterday. It was exactly the opposite.
- 24:42Speaker 1: So that's when I get sort of annoyed because we
- 24:45Speaker 1: say a lot of stupid things. I say this all
- 24:47Speaker 1: the time. I earn enough stupidity on my own. I
- 24:50Speaker 1: don't need things credited with me that I don't say.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And the only thing missing was the at Vermandre Stevenson.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So anyway back to my what I was talking about,
- 25:00Speaker 1: and now ten and ten. By the ways, the answer
- 25:01Speaker 1: to your questions tenant to Wow, that's a far cry
- 25:04Speaker 1: from what you lett stadium used to be. Yeah, right,
- 25:07Speaker 1: And I went twenty twenty one and so far this
- 25:10Speaker 1: year that that's what I counted. It was five and
- 25:12Speaker 1: three in twenty twenty four and five last year and
- 25:15Speaker 1: one and two so far right, you know. So you know,
- 25:19Speaker 1: people have said, well, you know, maybe playing on the
- 25:21Speaker 1: road is actually kind of better for them when you're
- 25:24Speaker 1: a struggling team, you know, or team trying to find itself,
- 25:27Speaker 1: not to have that pressure of the home crowd. And
- 25:30Speaker 1: ten on the road too, you know, No, but we're
- 25:33Speaker 1: kind of a five. Yeah, I know. But they used
- 25:35Speaker 1: to be so much better at home. Yeah, you know,
- 25:37Speaker 1: wouldn't be real good on the road. Last year record wise,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I thought, you know, they were four and five, so
- 25:42Speaker 1: they were six and two, yeah, on the road on
- 25:47Speaker 1: the road last year, yeah, I mean they went ten
- 25:49Speaker 1: and seven. Is and do you think I mean, obviously
- 25:52Speaker 1: the COVID season, that's a little bit tough to to
- 25:54Speaker 1: include that as well. I mean it's a that's true.
- 25:57Speaker 1: It doesn't really matter. Well, I'll just tell you that
- 25:59Speaker 1: familiarity year they had all their tough games were home games,
- 26:02Speaker 1: and they had a lot of easy games on the road.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Yeah like that. I mean, that's just the way it
- 26:05Speaker 1: worked out. Like they had Dallas Tampa like those are
- 26:10Speaker 1: tough home games, Atlanta, you know, and then they had
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yea like Atlanta on the road. I mean, it doesn't
- 26:16Speaker 1: explain it all the way. They're ten and ten over
- 26:19Speaker 1: two or two plus year sample. They're ten and ten
- 26:21Speaker 1: at home. Fred's right, like they haven't had that same
- 26:23Speaker 1: home field advantage that they used to enjoy forever. So
- 26:27Speaker 1: we'll see if they can turn that around on Sunday,
- 26:31Speaker 1: you know, because you go to Cleveland and you play
- 26:32Speaker 1: really well, and then the Bears come here and you
- 26:34Speaker 1: play dismally. Then you go to the Jets and you
- 26:38Speaker 1: don't play, but at least you pull the win off
- 26:40Speaker 1: on the road. And let's see if we can you know,
- 26:43Speaker 1: put something together back to back, you know, it being
- 26:46Speaker 1: a home game. Yeah, I mean, you know, I would hope.
- 26:49Speaker 1: I think this defense is respectable, So I mean, I think,
- 26:52Speaker 1: you know, a good performance against this defense. I do
- 26:55Speaker 1: think it would meet something. I mean, Kenny Moore, Stefan Gilmore.
- 26:58Speaker 1: Of course I know Leonard has been but you know,
- 27:00Speaker 1: they're they're a good defense. They're active, they're fast, They're
- 27:03Speaker 1: gonna present some chance. But but I you know, going
- 27:05Speaker 1: back to the offense and not looking right since the
- 27:08Speaker 1: training camp, I'm really at a loss here, you know,
- 27:10Speaker 1: because I still contend they have the pieces to be
- 27:15Speaker 1: a good offense. You know, now you've got this offensive
- 27:19Speaker 1: line trouble and that kind of it doesn't allow for
- 27:22Speaker 1: like a fair comparison, you know, a fair evaluation. Um.
- 27:27Speaker 1: But you know, if the line is playing well, I
- 27:29Speaker 1: think they've got the pieces to be good. I really
- 27:32Speaker 1: do so, but like you have to you know, and
- 27:34Speaker 1: I'm not telling you that they don't have any players,
- 27:37Speaker 1: because they do have players. But like, like I think
- 27:41Speaker 1: that if the line so in other words, you think
- 27:44Speaker 1: the line just didn't play well, You don't think that,
- 27:46Speaker 1: you know, like they don't might might not be that good.
- 27:50Speaker 1: I think the line, oh, it may not be that
- 27:52Speaker 1: just in general, like so like I'm not sure like
- 27:55Speaker 1: you can just say they have the pieces to be
- 27:57Speaker 1: a good offense when they haven't played that well. No,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I know, but that's why I say I'm at a loss.
- 28:02Speaker 1: I'm at a loss. Well, you know, like well some
- 28:05Speaker 1: would say that they're not as good as you think
- 28:06Speaker 1: they are. I know, but it might be one of
- 28:08Speaker 1: those like look at the four receivers, you know, Borne Myers,
- 28:12Speaker 1: Agalore and h Parker. Those are four good receivers. They're okay,
- 28:17Speaker 1: They're four good receivers. I think they're okay. I think
- 28:20Speaker 1: Damian Harris, I think they are a bunch of twos
- 28:22Speaker 1: and threes. I think it's the same thing that we've
- 28:24Speaker 1: always talked about. All Right, Damian Harris and Stevenson are
- 28:28Speaker 1: good running backs. I would I would agree with that.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I think the running backs are better than the receivers comparatively,
- 28:34Speaker 1: you know, like in the league. I think your two
- 28:36Speaker 1: running backs are better than where the receivers would be
- 28:39Speaker 1: considered in the way I think Hunter Henry's, you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: a good tight end. I just think they're they're better
- 28:44Speaker 1: than they're playing right now. And I certainly look at
- 28:47Speaker 1: the production. I think they are, yeah, but I don't
- 28:50Speaker 1: they may not be, you know. Like that's why I
- 28:52Speaker 1: say I'm at a loss. And the most important thing
- 28:54Speaker 1: you haven't even talked about yet is the quarterback? Is
- 28:57Speaker 1: the quarterback any better than he's playing? I don't know. Yeah,
- 29:00Speaker 1: I don't know the answer to that. Right well, I
- 29:02Speaker 1: think the question is I mean, right now, they're probably
- 29:05Speaker 1: most of their rankings are in the low twenties of
- 29:07Speaker 1: the league. So is that what you think they are?
- 29:10Speaker 1: Like those of you who like to like snicker and
- 29:12Speaker 1: scoff at Zach Wilson, don't look at the passing statistics
- 29:16Speaker 1: in the league because you'll see another guy that's very,
- 29:19Speaker 1: very close to Zach Wilson in the rankings. That's your guy. Like,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I don't know the answer. I don't have the answer.
- 29:27Speaker 1: This is just a slump. Is it the injury, is
- 29:29Speaker 1: it the coaching? It is it an extension of whatever
- 29:32Speaker 1: we saw going on this summer where it just didn't
- 29:37Speaker 1: look right, you know, it just didn't look right when
- 29:40Speaker 1: they threw the even like against air, it didn't look right.
- 29:43Speaker 1: But I see, I'm looking at it a little differently.
- 29:46Speaker 1: And this is where I do get made fun of
- 29:47Speaker 1: by some of the fans because sometimes I have that
- 29:50Speaker 1: New England thing, that Boston thing that I'm always thinking
- 29:53Speaker 1: the worst. Yeah, and I drop and I do but
- 29:57Speaker 1: you're saying like, well, this is just an extension to
- 29:59Speaker 1: the summer. To me, it's an extension of last season.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Like mac Jones's recent stretch didn't start Week one, right,
- 30:08Speaker 1: It started when Mike said after the bye last year,
- 30:11Speaker 1: in my opinion, when they started playing with good teams.
- 30:14Speaker 1: Coupled with the fact that now you've played eight, ten
- 30:17Speaker 1: to twelve games and people see what you do. If
- 30:20Speaker 1: do you think that if mc daniels was still here,
- 30:22Speaker 1: they didn't make any changes to the coaching they added Parker,
- 30:26Speaker 1: that they'd be a better offense right now than they are.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I have to say yes. I have to say yes too.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think that they would be better. But I don't
- 30:33Speaker 1: know how much better Mac Jones would be. That's what
- 30:35Speaker 1: I don't know, And I admit right up front, I
- 30:38Speaker 1: don't know the answer to the question. Yeah, there are
- 30:40Speaker 1: a lot of extenuating factors. And I said before the
- 30:43Speaker 1: season started, if the offense doesn't play well, Mac won't
- 30:45Speaker 1: get a lot of the blame for it. It It will
- 30:47Speaker 1: go to the coaches. That's happened largely now. What killed
- 30:50Speaker 1: him is the injury. Once the injury happened, and Bailey
- 30:54Speaker 1: Zappie played a couple of games. Now people are looking
- 30:56Speaker 1: at Mac Jones. Yeahs. And that's why I think it's
- 30:58Speaker 1: hard to really talk about this offense because you've seen
- 31:01Speaker 1: like three different versions of it this year. I mean, really,
- 31:03Speaker 1: if we're being honest, like we got to go off
- 31:05Speaker 1: the Jets game last week, I mean, that's what you
- 31:07Speaker 1: have with Mac, and I just continue to go back
- 31:10Speaker 1: and I think, you know, both of you guys have
- 31:11Speaker 1: made valid points. I just come down to if they
- 31:14Speaker 1: can't protect the quarterback and he can't be comfortable throwing
- 31:17Speaker 1: from the pocket, and they don't have any kind of
- 31:18Speaker 1: semblance of rhythm in the passing game, everything else is
- 31:21Speaker 1: kind of undercut. So get the past protection figured out,
- 31:26Speaker 1: get Mac comfortable in the pocket, and then you'll find
- 31:28Speaker 1: out what they really are. But I just and it's
- 31:30Speaker 1: also it relates to last year because I think we
- 31:32Speaker 1: compare a lot to what Mac was last year. And
- 31:34Speaker 1: you know, at the end of the year, I think
- 31:36Speaker 1: I said he was an average quarterback, which as a
- 31:39Speaker 1: rookie is great, take it all day long. He was
- 31:41Speaker 1: like the sixteenth thrand quarterback. Great, but it was kind
- 31:45Speaker 1: of colored by either amazing performances against bad teams or
- 31:49Speaker 1: not so great performances against good teams, and so what
- 31:51Speaker 1: end has happened there is you meet in the middle,
- 31:53Speaker 1: you know. So I don't think you know exactly what
- 31:56Speaker 1: he is. That's how That's exactly where I am. I
- 31:59Speaker 1: just don't know exactly what he is. Yeah, and that's okay,
- 32:02Speaker 1: Like he's only played twenty five ish games whatever? U right? Okay,
- 32:10Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't. I mean, I didn't have
- 32:11Speaker 1: it off the top of the eighteen plus four five five.
- 32:17Speaker 1: I thought he played three plus this one and the
- 32:19Speaker 1: last one that counts. Oh the green Bay game. No,
- 32:23Speaker 1: the Chicago one that counts as a game. Oh really,
- 32:27Speaker 1: I guess. So okay, we'll just we'll just wipe the well,
- 32:31Speaker 1: wipe that off, because I'm sure if he threw two
- 32:34Speaker 1: touchdowns on those first three series and we would wipe
- 32:36Speaker 1: those off, two touchdowns, he would have played the game.
- 32:39Speaker 1: According to Bill, it was the Skycamp's fault, so let's
- 32:42Speaker 1: just give it to me. I would agree with you,
- 32:45Speaker 1: but Bill says different. That was when I missed last
- 32:47Speaker 1: week when I was doing my thing, was that the
- 32:49Speaker 1: Skycamp wire talks. But that wasn't his fault. No, I know,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I don't think. I don't think he started that. You
- 32:59Speaker 1: took I took some crap on Twitter two for that.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Oh mac Jones, it's another thing I have an issue
- 33:04Speaker 1: with one of your with Ma Felgar show, I don't know.
- 33:07Speaker 1: This is typical Felgar. Okay, Now, I know a lot
- 33:10Speaker 1: of people were cringing because Matt came out after the
- 33:13Speaker 1: Cleveland game. In the first thing he said was you know,
- 33:17Speaker 1: praising Bill about you know, the you know what, who
- 33:21Speaker 1: are we talking about? He just said mac mac mac
- 33:24Speaker 1: mac Jones got up and the first thing he did
- 33:26Speaker 1: in his postgame press conference after the win over the
- 33:29Speaker 1: Jets was to the Jets. Okay, that's why I was confused.
- 33:32Speaker 1: So Felgar says, what are they doing down there? They're
- 33:35Speaker 1: actually scripting these guys and telling them to go out
- 33:38Speaker 1: and say this. What evidence does he have? That's that's
- 33:42Speaker 1: a fear to the end of someone told him to
- 33:44Speaker 1: say that there's a chance that he's right right on
- 33:48Speaker 1: a chance it's fat fat that's absolutely Four hours later,
- 33:54Speaker 1: the Patriots handed him a script and he walked out
- 33:57Speaker 1: and recited it. Maybe he's just a kiss ass that
- 34:00Speaker 1: knows where his bread is but yeah, which is okay,
- 34:04Speaker 1: But I had to think that was his point is
- 34:06Speaker 1: he's trying to make nice. But but that's not what
- 34:08Speaker 1: he said. He did say that, he did say that,
- 34:12Speaker 1: But I think his point is it's an orchestrated effort
- 34:14Speaker 1: on both of their parts, like Bill coming out and
- 34:16Speaker 1: saying that Mac was great well, because they're both trying
- 34:19Speaker 1: to say like, okay, listen, we gotta we gotta knock
- 34:22Speaker 1: this crap. I heard this too though, and this was
- 34:24Speaker 1: and the and the recurring line was, Oh, they're just
- 34:26Speaker 1: so kneedy down there. I heard it. I did hear
- 34:30Speaker 1: this part. I'm like, and that's that's Felger in a nutshell,
- 34:33Speaker 1: Like I'm not telling you that anything he said was wrong,
- 34:37Speaker 1: but he has no idea if he's right right, And
- 34:40Speaker 1: in an hour and a half later, and an hour
- 34:42Speaker 1: and a half later they reset it and go through
- 34:44Speaker 1: the whole thing again and it becomes fact and guys
- 34:46Speaker 1: are calling up you know, like you said, Felger, like
- 34:48Speaker 1: you know, they have they have to have him go
- 34:50Speaker 1: in like it it's it's like genius, kiss the ring.
- 34:52Speaker 1: Make sure you kissed the ring? Like I'm like, and
- 34:54Speaker 1: I'm laughing in my car listening to this thinking of
- 34:56Speaker 1: like picture and like aar and salking like walking back
- 34:58Speaker 1: up to the plane, like yeah, make sure he kissed
- 34:59Speaker 1: the ring of and then the other things and thee
- 35:05Speaker 1: and then the other thing they said yesterday, which like
- 35:08Speaker 1: it's an interpretation thing. I get it, but they always
- 35:11Speaker 1: go a certain way. And it was Jonathan Kraft's interview
- 35:13Speaker 1: before the game with Beatle, and you know, Jonathan was
- 35:16Speaker 1: talking about like, you know how in the NFL it's
- 35:19Speaker 1: hard to like every year be good, and he used
- 35:22Speaker 1: the Rams is in again, but like, for example, the
- 35:24Speaker 1: Rams last year won the Super Bowl and look at
- 35:27Speaker 1: him this year. And Felger took it as, oh, we're
- 35:30Speaker 1: not the Rams. The Rams. That's not what he meant.
- 35:33Speaker 1: He just meant that the last year's super Bowl team,
- 35:36Speaker 1: whoever it was, is now three and four. That's all
- 35:39Speaker 1: he meant. It's like it's it's hard in this league.
- 35:41Speaker 1: And Velger took it as you know, oh, oh we're
- 35:45Speaker 1: not the Rams. Look at the Rams. You know you
- 35:47Speaker 1: don't want to be the Rams. That's not what he
- 35:49Speaker 1: was saying. Away first round picks to what he was
- 35:52Speaker 1: saying he had nothing to do with, really who the
- 35:55Speaker 1: team was. It was just last year's Super Bowl team
- 35:57Speaker 1: is now struggling. That's it. That's the NFL. That's all
- 36:00Speaker 1: this point was. But it's taken this whole blue blue
- 36:04Speaker 1: mommy way, you know, or whatever you call that. You know,
- 36:08Speaker 1: it's on that one. But it's just it's just you know, oh,
- 36:12Speaker 1: and it's nobody there to push back. That's the problem today. Yeah,
- 36:17Speaker 1: you got. I'm not pushing back on that one because
- 36:20Speaker 1: I leave Jonathan Craft out of things, okay, just because
- 36:23Speaker 1: that's safe. But but no, but like like Jim, you know,
- 36:27Speaker 1: I love Jim Murray, but he's right in you know,
- 36:29Speaker 1: and and mass is the same. You know that nobody
- 36:32Speaker 1: pushes back. Of course, there's nobody pushing back. That's the problem.
- 36:38Speaker 1: So it falls on today. It's all on your shoulders, fall.
- 36:43Speaker 1: I have the weight of the world on my shoulders,
- 36:45Speaker 1: and I need Felger in here so I could straighten out.
- 36:48Speaker 1: I'm telling you, Mike, you missed it. Yes, when back
- 36:50Speaker 1: in the day, oh the old ESPN radio days, eight
- 36:54Speaker 1: ninety ESPN radis, and half the time neither of us
- 36:57Speaker 1: believe what we were saying. We would just yell, you know,
- 37:00Speaker 1: Nandy and I would just like get something to eat
- 37:01Speaker 1: and stay around. Yeah, what was it? Oh, yeah, I'm
- 37:06Speaker 1: looking forward to it. I actually I'm gonna have to
- 37:08Speaker 1: think listen to Mac today, so I might maybe I'll
- 37:10Speaker 1: have to catch you on the on the simulcast so
- 37:12Speaker 1: you don't have to listen to me. Okay, we'll put
- 37:15Speaker 1: we'll put Mac on pages dot com after the fact. Yeah, yeah,
- 37:17Speaker 1: four fifteen. Yeah, he's supposed to talk at four fifteen
- 37:22Speaker 1: because I know the last couple of well, I shouldn't
- 37:24Speaker 1: say the last couple of weeks. Last week. I think
- 37:26Speaker 1: by the time he spoke, I was already driving. That's
- 37:28Speaker 1: very possible. Yeah, he's been late. He was five fifteen,
- 37:31Speaker 1: I think. Yeah, I shouldn't say the last couple of
- 37:33Speaker 1: weeks because he hasn't done it every week. I think
- 37:35Speaker 1: he was it was five. It was five o'clock last year.
- 37:38Speaker 1: I remember listening to it when I was driving home
- 37:39Speaker 1: and I had to shut it off because I was
- 37:41Speaker 1: like my numb. Yeah, like I'm not good with like
- 37:47Speaker 1: the the interview, like uh and it's bad, you know,
- 37:51Speaker 1: like it's part of what we do and I can't
- 37:53Speaker 1: get through them. I just like lose like con conscious
- 37:57Speaker 1: what did you think of anything to uh that you
- 38:00Speaker 1: took out of yesterday's Coach Access. I mean, I think
- 38:03Speaker 1: kind of like what Evan wrote about. I mean, I
- 38:04Speaker 1: just think that the team is circling the wagons around
- 38:07Speaker 1: Mac and uh, and I understand why. And I think
- 38:10Speaker 1: that they should and I hope that uh, you know
- 38:12Speaker 1: that it that it pays dividends. That's I mean, that's
- 38:15Speaker 1: the most important thing. But if they can't protect him,
- 38:17Speaker 1: I don't think it really But you talk about genius Fred,
- 38:21Speaker 1: so they have I agree with Mike. I think that
- 38:24Speaker 1: they were. It was a concerted effort yesterday. Like and
- 38:27Speaker 1: I think what Bill did on Sunday was not by accident.
- 38:31Speaker 1: You know, the way he spoke about Mac after that game. Um,
- 38:35Speaker 1: so it's a concerted effort to circle the wagons around
- 38:37Speaker 1: Mac because of what you did two weeks earlier, right,
- 38:42Speaker 1: like right, we wouldn't have to do this, right like
- 38:46Speaker 1: And and you watch if Mac plays really well, which
- 38:50Speaker 1: I think he's going to play better on Sunday, I do.
- 38:52Speaker 1: I don't know why. I just have a feeling that
- 38:54Speaker 1: he's going to play better. And you know, I know
- 38:58Speaker 1: you don't think that the ballon mmies or that. But
- 39:01Speaker 1: you watch the Ballenammies come you watch, well, look at it. Yeah,
- 39:06Speaker 1: the media created all of the storm around the quick. No,
- 39:09Speaker 1: they didn't. The media does a lot of stupid stuff.
- 39:12Speaker 1: They didn't create this. The media did not create Zappy
- 39:17Speaker 1: chance at the game against Chicago, No, Bill did well
- 39:22Speaker 1: well and Zappy yeah by playing well, by Bill saying
- 39:27Speaker 1: that he was coming out of the game, I was
- 39:30Speaker 1: an empowerment, that was. But if Zappy hadn't played well
- 39:35Speaker 1: while Mac was hurt, nobody would be yelling for Zappy.
- 39:38Speaker 1: You know, I understand what your point is. But if
- 39:41Speaker 1: you just said Mac is our quarterback, I don't think
- 39:44Speaker 1: there would have been anywhere near the amount of people
- 39:46Speaker 1: calling for Zappy. We'd be some, there'd be some, but
- 39:49Speaker 1: not like that. Disagree before he ever played a snap?
- 39:52Speaker 1: Oh no, No, for sure. But it's a real thing.
- 39:55Speaker 1: It's a faction now and within Patriots fans, right, and
- 39:58Speaker 1: it's not a media creation. But watch if like Mac
- 40:01Speaker 1: plays really well, like two games in a row, watch
- 40:03Speaker 1: what happens. It's all the media did this. This was
- 40:07Speaker 1: never a thing in We didn't We never had any
- 40:09Speaker 1: doubts in this locker room. Well, you watch you watch. Yeah,
- 40:14Speaker 1: there were never any doubts in this locker room. Well
- 40:16Speaker 1: there wasn't, your head coach, because he was going back
- 40:18Speaker 1: and forth in the game by design. Um, Sunday is
- 40:22Speaker 1: a salute to service game, so there'll be a lot
- 40:25Speaker 1: of stuff going on around that in your database. As
- 40:28Speaker 1: Bill ever warned the salute to Service gear. I don't
- 40:31Speaker 1: think so. No, no, I actually that would be conforming
- 40:35Speaker 1: to what the league might want him to do, right.
- 40:37Speaker 1: I was getting worried there for a second, You're gonna
- 40:39Speaker 1: put me on the spot. But no, no, I don't
- 40:41Speaker 1: think he ever has. I'll double check that when I
- 40:44Speaker 1: get back to I wonder, like, on track, can you
- 40:45Speaker 1: like put a search engine in you know, sorry, search engine?
- 40:49Speaker 1: And can I do a control? Can find what? Yeah?
- 40:52Speaker 1: Can you can you find something special? I wonder if
- 40:54Speaker 1: DraftKings has odds on like whether or not Bill will
- 40:57Speaker 1: wear the Salute to Service gear. Oh I would. I
- 40:59Speaker 1: would get on those odds. I mean it was funny,
- 41:01Speaker 1: it was, you know, because of some of the Super
- 41:03Speaker 1: Bowls they had real lines for luck he would wear.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and you know people would come, will come
- 41:08Speaker 1: Colin for for that, I mean the red the red one,
- 41:11Speaker 1: of course, is the one that gives everybody the chills. Yeah,
- 41:15Speaker 1: nobody wants to have you the red um, but yeah,
- 41:17Speaker 1: it's uh, it's funny. I always wonder someday if I
- 41:20Speaker 1: if there's like a funny way to talk ask him
- 41:22Speaker 1: about it. I don't think I ever will, but I
- 41:25Speaker 1: just imagine that somewhere in this building there's a bunch
- 41:27Speaker 1: of old hoodies and nobody knows what they are but me. Yeah.
- 41:32Speaker 1: The other thing they were talking about that made me
- 41:33Speaker 1: laugh on Paul Show was you know, we're super Bowl lost,
- 41:38Speaker 1: like any team. That was funny. Somebody was talking about,
- 41:41Speaker 1: you know, the Jets beating the call. Someone was making
- 41:43Speaker 1: trying to make the case of Belichick over Don Shula,
- 41:45Speaker 1: which I think even they all are on board with. Yeah, like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: we're all like Belichick. So what got Some old timer
- 41:53Speaker 1: calls up and says all the reasons why Belichick is
- 41:55Speaker 1: better than Don Shula, and one of them he goes
- 41:57Speaker 1: and he lost the big the biggest super Bowl choke
- 42:01Speaker 1: job in history, the biggest, biggest, biggest loss in Super
- 42:05Speaker 1: Bowl history. And everybody just stopped and said, what about
- 42:09Speaker 1: all seven? I think you a guy has that And
- 42:12Speaker 1: even Mike Martz, you know in in one that was
- 42:15Speaker 1: a fourteen point. Yeah. The biggest spread was probably Super
- 42:19Speaker 1: Bowl three. I think it was like eighteen, like by
- 42:21Speaker 1: the number, right, But you realize that was a big
- 42:24Speaker 1: spread because people still didn't think the AFL on par
- 42:27Speaker 1: with the NFL, no respect for they had no respect
- 42:30Speaker 1: for the AFL. Right, here's a dumb question. There were
- 42:32Speaker 1: spreads back of the day, in like the sixties and seventies.
- 42:35Speaker 1: I don't know why to say, Jimmy, but you know,
- 42:37Speaker 1: the sports betting. Vegas sports betting has been a thing
- 42:41Speaker 1: for a long time. Oh yeah, yeah, I never I
- 42:42Speaker 1: never just really thought about I mean I never really
- 42:45Speaker 1: did either. So maybe it was Jimmy the nose, but
- 42:47Speaker 1: I always thought Vegas sports betting has been a thing
- 42:49Speaker 1: since Vegas has been a Vegas. Yeah, we have to
- 42:52Speaker 1: go to Godfather two or you know, business Tommy Freddy. Yeah,
- 43:00Speaker 1: everybody's here. Eight five five past five hundred is the
- 43:04Speaker 1: ah take a hot line web radio at Patriots dot
- 43:07Speaker 1: com is the email address. UM Evan will be here
- 43:10Speaker 1: after practice. He just stopped in briefly a little while. Yeah,
- 43:14Speaker 1: he heard Paul making fun of all twenty two and
- 43:16Speaker 1: he stomped out again. They already misquote me enough. Because
- 43:20Speaker 1: I don't like all twenty two doesn't mean I make
- 43:22Speaker 1: fun of it. It's just a funny thing to say.
- 43:25Speaker 1: It's like I don't like seeing all the players at once.
- 43:27Speaker 1: Like that's like, that's what you're saying. Oh, Harry comes,
- 43:32Speaker 1: it comes to the orange man, help bent for leather,
- 43:34Speaker 1: getting ready for four years of traffic on route twenty four?
- 43:38Speaker 1: Did you do your hit? Did you do your hit?
- 43:41Speaker 1: I did? Yeah? Okay, So now why don't you repeat
- 43:43Speaker 1: it so people can hear it? Can you hear me? Yeah? Yeah,
- 43:45Speaker 1: I'm gonna turn this up. Who's over here? They turn
- 43:47Speaker 1: it way down? Evan Evan sensitive years. Yeah, yeah, Evan.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Since there, he's not interested in anything that Paul says.
- 43:53Speaker 1: That is true. You don't play well together here for you?
- 43:57Speaker 1: How are you doing? I don't know. I'm standing to
- 44:00Speaker 1: a person with a mask. I'm all right, I'm all right,
- 44:03Speaker 1: don't worry, I'm all right. I'm good. Yeah, yeah, you
- 44:06Speaker 1: made me laugh. Why what was the phrase, I find
- 44:09Speaker 1: players or something? Yeah? In the draft years, I find
- 44:13Speaker 1: play But I'm giving him credit because that was a
- 44:15Speaker 1: guy that Fred did like and and so our lads
- 44:17Speaker 1: liked him. But first of all our lads had him
- 44:19Speaker 1: in that. Actually, there's no better one than I. Now
- 44:22Speaker 1: do a cross between our lads and the beast. Oh
- 44:26Speaker 1: so you look for things that are missing from our lads.
- 44:33Speaker 1: So what we got? What are we talking about? Um?
- 44:35Speaker 1: So how do you what do you think of the
- 44:36Speaker 1: last game and the one coming up? Think of the offense? Yeah?
- 44:39Speaker 1: Both focused on the offense. I think, um, there is
- 44:42Speaker 1: a severe confidence problem in the offense all the way around.
- 44:46Speaker 1: In all ways. I don't think Mac Jones has confidence
- 44:48Speaker 1: in the fat guys in front of them, the skinny
- 44:49Speaker 1: guys that are supposed to get open, the guys on
- 44:51Speaker 1: the sideline they're supposed to give him plays. I think
- 44:52Speaker 1: you're about the confidence in Yeah, I was just no.
- 44:55Speaker 1: I think that's an issue too. I think they are
- 44:57Speaker 1: an offense without confidence in any direction. Bill's trying. I
- 45:00Speaker 1: think Bill started talking up Mac a little bit. Can
- 45:02Speaker 1: you remember like a sequence that was as blatant as
- 45:07Speaker 1: pick six overturned dive, dive, kneeled down? Yep? Can you
- 45:13Speaker 1: remember a play, like a sequence of plays that was
- 45:16Speaker 1: that egregious? Which I find funny because one of the
- 45:19Speaker 1: narratives we've dealt with in the last month is like, oh,
- 45:22Speaker 1: when Max out there, they go gun and they make
- 45:24Speaker 1: him throw it while they've thrown it down to field,
- 45:26Speaker 1: and like that's a perfect example. No, they'd lost confidence
- 45:29Speaker 1: in their quarterback and they're just gonna go to the
- 45:32Speaker 1: locker room and avoid the seventeen to three deficit. Like
- 45:35Speaker 1: I firmly believe the season his season, I don't know
- 45:39Speaker 1: about his career. Maybe a little strong. Yeah, yeah, it's
- 45:41Speaker 1: a big argument, but but definitely like if that ref,
- 45:44Speaker 1: if that ref is like a damn, the flag won't
- 45:47Speaker 1: come out at whatever, we'll ignore it. And and that's
- 45:49Speaker 1: a tough in seventeen three, I think you get blown
- 45:51Speaker 1: out by the Jets at MetLife Stadium. I don't think
- 45:53Speaker 1: Zach Wilson has his meltdown because he's the cock of
- 45:55Speaker 1: the walk. He can just cruise to victory with the
- 45:57Speaker 1: defense pinning their ears back. And now Max a you know,
- 46:00Speaker 1: humpty dumpty broken mess at the bottom of the wall, Like,
- 46:03Speaker 1: but it didn't. And give him credit. And I think
- 46:06Speaker 1: his tone post game was the most positive thing coming
- 46:09Speaker 1: out of that game. I thought he had positive tone.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Do you think the Patriots from a you know, weapons standpoint,
- 46:15Speaker 1: have enough pieces to be good the offense absolutely not? No, No,
- 46:18Speaker 1: where's the other than the line strong? He's stronger on that.
- 46:22Speaker 1: I'm assuming the line plays okay, but just from a
- 46:26Speaker 1: piece way? What was the question? I may not have
- 46:27Speaker 1: been listening. Do they have the pieces of the offense
- 46:30Speaker 1: to be good, to be good? Okay? No, I was listening. No, Okay,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I don't. I don't deficiency do you think? Um? I
- 46:37Speaker 1: don't know who's good on the outside now that you've
- 46:39Speaker 1: loved Jacoby Myers is good at what he does, but
- 46:42Speaker 1: what he does is what he does. There's like a
- 46:44Speaker 1: like he's soup. There's a ceiling like it can only
- 46:46Speaker 1: be that good. It's not a great meal. And these
- 46:49Speaker 1: are the Indians that you've missed my soup. I like
- 46:52Speaker 1: soup too, But if you have soup for dinner, you're
- 46:55Speaker 1: not You're usually hungry in like an hour. All that feeling,
- 46:57Speaker 1: that's true. You know I beat the bills with SUPs. No,
- 46:59Speaker 1: you're not gonna beat bills? Was soup like? Particularly this
- 47:02Speaker 1: week when it was really evident, like John U. Smith
- 47:06Speaker 1: and Nelson Agilar and Kendrick Bourne were like three catches
- 47:11Speaker 1: on ten targets. Is that that's whose fault? Is that?
- 47:14Speaker 1: Why are you yelling at me? No, but that seemed
- 47:16Speaker 1: like that at tone. I think it's all the fault.
- 47:18Speaker 1: But like so Matt Patricia, no, no, no, sorry, beep
- 47:21Speaker 1: beep beep, beat back it up, Bill Belichick. Okay, it's
- 47:24Speaker 1: Bill's fault. But but he said blame him, So I'm
- 47:26Speaker 1: gonna blame him. So you do you have one good
- 47:28Speaker 1: offensive player in his name is rom Andrey Stevenson. Well,
- 47:31Speaker 1: excuse me, really good offen. Now you're talking person the
- 47:34Speaker 1: best player of the team. I've said it all year.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You're on the fence, not at all. I said that
- 47:39Speaker 1: I think that he is the best player of the team.
- 47:40Speaker 1: But if someone said where would they be without him?
- 47:42Speaker 1: I said probably four and four. Oh yeah, it's it's
- 47:45Speaker 1: so that was interpet as. I said he was irrelevant.
- 47:47Speaker 1: But I mean, Christian McCaffrey's really good and the Panthers sucked. Correct, Like,
- 47:51Speaker 1: there's only so much one individual can guy can do
- 47:54Speaker 1: other than franchise quarterback. Like those guys, we learned better
- 47:57Speaker 1: than anybody. Those guys cover things up. I just want
- 48:00Speaker 1: to be clear, even if everything was working, you know,
- 48:02Speaker 1: the offensive line was good, the coaching was stable, all that.
- 48:06Speaker 1: You don't think that these receivers, running backs and tight
- 48:10Speaker 1: ends are good, uh, not good enough. I think some
- 48:13Speaker 1: of them are good. I don't know what happened to
- 48:15Speaker 1: Kendrick Bourne. I'm still a lie. That's the thing. I
- 48:18Speaker 1: thought he was good. You just mentioned you said the
- 48:19Speaker 1: exact words I said. I'm at a loss, yeah, because
- 48:22Speaker 1: I do think that these pieces are good enough to
- 48:25Speaker 1: make the offense good. And I don't really like do
- 48:28Speaker 1: you watch other games, I'll see the talent that the
- 48:32Speaker 1: other team. Look, how about this week? I don't they
- 48:33Speaker 1: have a better running back, they have a better wide receiver?
- 48:36Speaker 1: Like No, But I'm I'm more than satisfied with Damian
- 48:39Speaker 1: Harris and vermondre Stevenson. I think, you know, yeah, I
- 48:43Speaker 1: think I think about their tight ends and wide receivers. Yeah.
- 48:45Speaker 1: I think Aggalore, Parker Born and Myers are four good receivers.
- 48:50Speaker 1: They're not if they're your fours. The trouble is somebody's
- 48:53Speaker 1: gonna be a one and a two three. I have
- 48:56Speaker 1: the three. Jacobe Myers is my three. I would have
- 48:59Speaker 1: traded Jakobe Myers to like the Rams or somebody, because
- 49:01Speaker 1: I think I would love to see him play like
- 49:03Speaker 1: opposite Cooper Cup and see like the story of Jacobe
- 49:06Speaker 1: Myers just evolved. Because I think he's the nicest guy
- 49:08Speaker 1: on the planet. Yeah, I love him and I would
- 49:10Speaker 1: love to He's gonna wither away. He'll listen to this,
- 49:12Speaker 1: mister Myers. It's not just the guys that work for
- 49:14Speaker 1: the Patriots that love your son. Oh, mister Myers listening. Oh,
- 49:18Speaker 1: his kid is the absolute best. That's why I want
- 49:21Speaker 1: him to sign for whatever fifty million dollars and go
- 49:23Speaker 1: somewhere where he can be like the perfect fit to
- 49:27Speaker 1: the rest of the scheme around him. Yeah, like even Buffalo.
- 49:30Speaker 1: I've said, if you put him opposite digs with Josh Allen, yeah,
- 49:34Speaker 1: I don't know what Paul's got his hands tumbling him.
- 49:38Speaker 1: This is what they always accuse you of, as they
- 49:41Speaker 1: say that all the food would just come in Andy
- 49:42Speaker 1: just dig right, and he wouldn't even wait for the show.
- 49:44Speaker 1: We have a guest on the show who's talking. You
- 49:46Speaker 1: don't need me to talk, so they bad mouth me. Yeah. See,
- 49:49Speaker 1: I disagree. I think that I think these guys are good.
- 49:52Speaker 1: I think there's just something wrong with the offense as
- 49:54Speaker 1: a whole. But don't you need great um, don't you
- 49:57Speaker 1: need a tent pole? Well, you never see it tent.
- 50:00Speaker 1: It's got the big pole in the middle and all
- 50:01Speaker 1: the other little you need, but take the middle pole
- 50:04Speaker 1: out of collapses on the one pole. But let me
- 50:07Speaker 1: let me I said, I said before the season, I
- 50:08Speaker 1: think the Patriots have the pieces to be a good Okay,
- 50:11Speaker 1: but let me say this not okay because we don't
- 50:14Speaker 1: have to get not right now. No, no, we don't
- 50:16Speaker 1: have to get semantics. Okay, because you're probably right, they
- 50:19Speaker 1: probably have the pieces to be good on offense. But
- 50:21Speaker 1: but I would just ask you, do you think the
- 50:23Speaker 1: Jets have the pieces to be good on offense? Yeah?
- 50:27Speaker 1: I'm not. I'm not as familiar with their receiving. Okay,
- 50:29Speaker 1: so they have they have Corey Davis like them. They
- 50:33Speaker 1: have Garrett Wilson, they have Elijah Moore, and they have
- 50:37Speaker 1: Denzel miss They're being held back by the quarter. They
- 50:39Speaker 1: have Ty Conklin who got like six balls for either
- 50:42Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns the other day. They have um
- 50:46Speaker 1: Breeze Hall. Think about Michael carter Is running backs and
- 50:49Speaker 1: as bad as as bad as Wilson was He threw
- 50:51Speaker 1: for over three hundred fifty yards, right, imagine if he
- 50:54Speaker 1: didn't turn the ball over, but by being held back
- 50:57Speaker 1: by that. So I would say that the Jets have
- 50:59Speaker 1: the piece is to be good on offense. Do they
- 51:01Speaker 1: have the pieces to be great? No? You know why
- 51:03Speaker 1: because their quarterbacks not good their quarterback, But the Patriots
- 51:06Speaker 1: have the pieces to be good. Okay, so that's all
- 51:10Speaker 1: I'm asking. But the Jets have one of the worst
- 51:12Speaker 1: offenses in football because of the quarterback. Yes, in large part.
- 51:17Speaker 1: But you if from a Patriots perspective, the way I
- 51:19Speaker 1: look at it, they have questions in coaching. They have
- 51:22Speaker 1: question questions at receiver, questions at line, questions at quarterback.
- 51:26Speaker 1: You know what that means? You're probably not that good.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Like you, they're not. There's too many questions and not
- 51:30Speaker 1: enough answers. My reply to that is, other than the quarterback,
- 51:35Speaker 1: than the coaches, they shouldn't have questions that receive why
- 51:39Speaker 1: because I think they're good. But just because you think
- 51:42Speaker 1: it doesn't make it. So that's just my opinion. You know,
- 51:44Speaker 1: you can't have an opinion. Nobody, not even the stats
- 51:47Speaker 1: back you up, right, So we go to production then
- 51:50Speaker 1: we go to like next gen, this whole Davante Parker
- 51:53Speaker 1: hasn't got separation in three and a half years. Stuff
- 51:55Speaker 1: like it. Just sometimes you can think something I thought
- 51:59Speaker 1: John U. Smith was to be good. He is not.
- 52:01Speaker 1: When when these guys get chances, they produce who Myers
- 52:06Speaker 1: Parker even Aggalore at times, you know, and then produce
- 52:10Speaker 1: which team does he produce for? And then they freeze
- 52:12Speaker 1: him out after he drops a B as they should.
- 52:14Speaker 1: You know, I wouldn't throw to him, well, Taekwon Thornton,
- 52:17Speaker 1: we wanted to, Like, I haven't even included him, but
- 52:20Speaker 1: last week coming across right by the hands because I
- 52:22Speaker 1: saw this guy over here, He's gonna hit me and
- 52:24Speaker 1: I'm little, I didn't even include him in the top four. Yeah,
- 52:27Speaker 1: they're not that good. I just think they could be
- 52:28Speaker 1: better than what they are. I know that I agree
- 52:30Speaker 1: with that I better than This is why I said
- 52:33Speaker 1: the semantic thing, because I agree that what we do here.
- 52:36Speaker 1: I agree with Fred they should be better than what
- 52:38Speaker 1: they've shown. So that's that's I don't think that they
- 52:41Speaker 1: have the capability being much better than after I think
- 52:43Speaker 1: that's they're not good enough. They can be better. They
- 52:45Speaker 1: can be better than good enough. Well, I would disagree
- 52:47Speaker 1: with you about everybody, like when given a chance is
- 52:51Speaker 1: produced like Savante Parker had one good game, right, like
- 52:54Speaker 1: you only given a chance once? Oh really no, No,
- 52:57Speaker 1: he's been given more chances than he probably deserved in
- 53:00Speaker 1: those games. I mean there was a time would pretty
- 53:03Speaker 1: much every other pass thrown in his direction wounded up
- 53:05Speaker 1: at his an interception. Yes, I think not all on him.
- 53:07Speaker 1: I think that play got hurt on in the first
- 53:08Speaker 1: play was predictable too, that they've been running that as
- 53:10Speaker 1: their first pass to play for like four straight games
- 53:13Speaker 1: where it's the quick little slant off of him, it's
- 53:15Speaker 1: he all either contested, catches up the you know, fades
- 53:17Speaker 1: up the sideline or that little play and they snuffed
- 53:20Speaker 1: it out there. They haven't looked good. I mean, I
- 53:22Speaker 1: don't know what that um that fourth down thing was.
- 53:25Speaker 1: I'm not really sure. So this was my Dart's theory
- 53:29Speaker 1: should have been a touchdown. Yeah you missed it. Well, well,
- 53:32Speaker 1: I mean yeah, but Dart's theory, and he admitted his
- 53:35Speaker 1: theory was that that that Meyers should have should have
- 53:38Speaker 1: gone and that he ran the wrong route. My impressions
- 53:40Speaker 1: you had Hunter Henry, like, just throw it to Hunter Henry.
- 53:42Speaker 1: And I think my impression maybe was that Mac was
- 53:45Speaker 1: trying to improvise and saw all the open field behind
- 53:47Speaker 1: Myers and said we got a touchdown if he just
- 53:49Speaker 1: sees this and goes and we improvised. I felt like
- 53:51Speaker 1: he was trying to like mahomes them a little bit.
- 53:53Speaker 1: No, no no, no, just go, go go. And then by
- 53:54Speaker 1: that time Henry was covered. There was nothing he could do.
- 53:57Speaker 1: Throw it away. Yeah, well you can't. It was fourth down,
- 53:59Speaker 1: but you know, bestime for a drop all empty, it's
- 54:03Speaker 1: better than throwing a pick. I just thought it looked
- 54:05Speaker 1: like they put a Mahomes like there was the little
- 54:09Speaker 1: fake like yeah, I don't know that it was a
- 54:11Speaker 1: real fake, not a fake. But like, I don't think
- 54:14Speaker 1: that's Mac, Like I don't. I don't know that that's
- 54:16Speaker 1: where he's at his best ad living on fourth down.
- 54:19Speaker 1: And and maybe, I mean, there's clearly been a couple
- 54:21Speaker 1: of miscommunications. The pick six. He keeps saying very clearly,
- 54:25Speaker 1: that's not my fault, that's a miscommunication. They're they're just
- 54:30Speaker 1: not a good offense. They're not efficient, they're not effective.
- 54:32Speaker 1: I mean, they guys rolling into the end zone half
- 54:34Speaker 1: the time, Like it's just nothing's pretty, nothing's easy. I
- 54:37Speaker 1: actually thought it's a slog and it's looked a lot
- 54:39Speaker 1: like the training camp. That's like it hasn't looked good
- 54:45Speaker 1: since the summer. We're back to that. And I like
- 54:47Speaker 1: the way you say it, though, Fred, Like that implies
- 54:49Speaker 1: that it did look good on the summer. No, I
- 54:50Speaker 1: never remember, and it should never be Mac running like
- 54:54Speaker 1: or very infrequently. I won't say never, but like, why
- 54:58Speaker 1: is that happening so much? To me, that's an end
- 55:00Speaker 1: action of what's wrong with the offense so much, whether
- 55:03Speaker 1: it's his mental the confidence, the play calling, the blocking,
- 55:05Speaker 1: the whole thing. And that might be why I get
- 55:07Speaker 1: like a little bit clouded. You know, I told you
- 55:12Speaker 1: after the game, I didn't think Max sucked in the game.
- 55:14Speaker 1: I thought the biggest problem in the game was past protection.
- 55:16Speaker 1: He was under siege all day. I don't think he
- 55:19Speaker 1: did great handling that, so some of that's on Mac.
- 55:23Speaker 1: But to extrapolate from that and say that he actually
- 55:25Speaker 1: played really well, which is what I would argue with
- 55:28Speaker 1: Greg about. To me, I'm not gonna tell you, like
- 55:34Speaker 1: I don't want that, Like that's not offense. That I'm
- 55:36Speaker 1: looking for him scrambling around, you know, and luckily getting
- 55:41Speaker 1: a fifteen yard penalty a half of you you know, like,
- 55:43Speaker 1: I don't know, maybe a blade of grass short of
- 55:45Speaker 1: the first down. Maybe a blade of grass he got
- 55:47Speaker 1: the first down. That's not what I'm looking for. That's
- 55:49Speaker 1: not like I need plays. I need the offense to
- 55:51Speaker 1: show some sort of cohesion. And Mike was on this
- 55:54Speaker 1: during the game. Andy, did you notice like they had
- 55:58Speaker 1: like five or six third down conversions early in the
- 56:01Speaker 1: game they completely went away, But how many of them
- 56:04Speaker 1: were like like if you added up the John H.
- 56:06Speaker 1: Smith yards after the catch on one of them, Jacobe
- 56:09Speaker 1: Meyers getting like two black like they got the first
- 56:12Speaker 1: down by like a combined lent of the football on
- 56:14Speaker 1: three different first downs. They all count. I'm not taking
- 56:16Speaker 1: them away, but like it just but they're not the same, right,
- 56:18Speaker 1: They're not the old Julian Edelman, Troy Brown, he always
- 56:21Speaker 1: gets you seven on third and six. But it's seven,
- 56:24Speaker 1: God forbid, Andy, it's third and two when we get seventeen, right, right,
- 56:28Speaker 1: you know, because it's not saying that's where I would
- 56:30Speaker 1: go back to, like the John H. Smith one like
- 56:33Speaker 1: he got he was in like midair man, and that's
- 56:35Speaker 1: how he got it. That's great play by the laws
- 56:38Speaker 1: of physics, got that first down more than anything else.
- 56:40Speaker 1: And that's where I get back to, like, who's good.
- 56:43Speaker 1: Who's your go to guy? Ramandre? And you're gonna probably
- 56:46Speaker 1: wear him out if you try to do every week
- 56:49Speaker 1: like seven catch He's got fifteen balls the last two
- 56:51Speaker 1: weeks if we continue, and seven catches and whatever, eighteen
- 56:55Speaker 1: to twenty carries for a guy who's never really done that.
- 56:58Speaker 1: I thought he looked gassed. Was that three weeks ago,
- 57:00Speaker 1: two weeks ago? Whenever that the Harris was out right?
- 57:03Speaker 1: He was just gassed. And it's like I would like
- 57:07Speaker 1: to tap out, but I'm not gonna make you play
- 57:09Speaker 1: Pierre Strong right now, so I'll jog back to the
- 57:11Speaker 1: huddle and get hit again. Like yeah, that's a problem.
- 57:14Speaker 1: And I love him, and it's it's the kind of
- 57:16Speaker 1: thing where it's not even like the offensive line that's
- 57:18Speaker 1: opened in the wholes form, like he's like, I got
- 57:19Speaker 1: guys in his face. He's making guys miss in the
- 57:21Speaker 1: backfield and then exploding like it hasn't been clean that
- 57:24Speaker 1: I don't have a lot of like, oh, we'll just
- 57:25Speaker 1: take Harrison there and he'll have the same production. But
- 57:27Speaker 1: they need that out it the cults. I mean, the
- 57:29Speaker 1: Bengals game will be a layup because you know, we're
- 57:32Speaker 1: that much better than the Bengals now that we can
- 57:33Speaker 1: just circle that as a scheduled win. Who said that?
- 57:35Speaker 1: Your boys, Zoe? You can see him on Twitter layup Bengals,
- 57:40Speaker 1: Oh boy, Like unbelievable. Why because the Bengals struggled the
- 57:44Speaker 1: other night, Like there's a lot of bad football this year. Now,
- 57:46Speaker 1: they were without their best player and that's part of it.
- 57:48Speaker 1: And I actually think they'll probably be without their best
- 57:50Speaker 1: player when they play you, because I think this hip
- 57:52Speaker 1: injury with Jamar Chase is going to go down a
- 57:53Speaker 1: weird road. But like, what are you penciling in? I
- 57:56Speaker 1: actually heard you when I came when you were coming in.
- 57:58Speaker 1: I did the same thing on Mud at Night the
- 58:01Speaker 1: Bears week. I did the pregame show with him. I
- 58:03Speaker 1: did a hit right before the game and callers were like,
- 58:05Speaker 1: you know, we're gonna roll through the Bears, and I'm like,
- 58:08Speaker 1: aren't they only one game different than you? Like, when
- 58:10Speaker 1: did we get these big balls that we're a half
- 58:13Speaker 1: game ahead of the Colts. But we can laugh at
- 58:15Speaker 1: the Colts and mock them and say, like, and I
- 58:17Speaker 1: do believe they have the absolute pieces to win this
- 58:20Speaker 1: football game if Ellinger can play. I don't know you
- 58:22Speaker 1: know who the voice is on this show with regard
- 58:25Speaker 1: to that, me, Fred really Fred chat chat because I
- 58:29Speaker 1: was one of the ones that said they really have
- 58:31Speaker 1: no business losing to the Bears. They didn't, but they
- 58:33Speaker 1: did before the game. That was the only one I
- 58:36Speaker 1: was willing to give before the season. And Fred like
- 58:40Speaker 1: didn't chastise me, but he disagreed with me and said,
- 58:42Speaker 1: you can't do that. You can't pencil in. They're not
- 58:45Speaker 1: good enough. They're not good enough to pencil in anything.
- 58:48Speaker 1: And he's been on that from the day that the
- 58:50Speaker 1: season started all the way through. So are you disappointed
- 58:53Speaker 1: with the trade deadline? Like nothing, I didn't expect. You
- 58:56Speaker 1: do not care about this season? I didn't. You just
- 58:58Speaker 1: made a face that says this season going nowhere anyway.
- 59:01Speaker 1: So like, I don't want to be sellers because I
- 59:03Speaker 1: always have hope and and I don't think i'd drive
- 59:06Speaker 1: Isaiah Wint to the airport. And at the same time,
- 59:09Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to give up draft assets
- 59:11Speaker 1: to be a buyer. So you know, we talked about
- 59:13Speaker 1: that yesterday. I was like, poor Mike Greece, Yeah, you know,
- 59:17Speaker 1: he like push he footed into it and got attitude
- 59:20Speaker 1: from him like a he stinks. I'd rather know and
- 59:22Speaker 1: all honestly, I would have rather done something like I
- 59:25Speaker 1: know this is probably a cliche like sports talk, right,
- 59:27Speaker 1: but like trade some pieces, trade a receiver and let
- 59:31Speaker 1: Thornton get every rep and just see what Thornton can be.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Trade Isaiah Win because he's a dink. And but like
- 59:37Speaker 1: you have some expiring country, kay, I'm I'm sure on
- 59:41Speaker 1: a couple of those they tried, and they probably just
- 59:43Speaker 1: you're gonna tell me, no one would take Isaiah Win
- 59:46Speaker 1: problem in the National Football League where there's not enough line,
- 59:48Speaker 1: I think they would have taken him. But I think
- 59:50Speaker 1: the Patriots were probably asking for more than anyone would
- 59:52Speaker 1: want to give, so you didn't really want to trade
- 59:54Speaker 1: him now, but you know you want it at your price,
- 59:56Speaker 1: of course, And they were being stubborn or the other
- 59:58Speaker 1: team was being stubborn. It was the other team. It's
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: never us. I'm sure there were tons of conversations that
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: we're going on. We're with for numerous players. Bill didn't
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: want to talk about it. What is close to me?
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: I don't even know what that means? What is close me?
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: And he said, yeah, are you close? I almost made
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: the trade. Are you surprised he's not gonna get into particulars? No?
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: But why does he have to be dinky? All right?
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: Have you? In fairness? He wasn't asked to get into particulars.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: He asked if there was any deals that and he's
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: not going to tell you, And then you're not to say, yeah,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: we had. Isaiah went to Atlanta and they were willing
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: to give us a three. We wanted to two. Yeah,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: we tried almost all right, we're gonna take a break,
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: although Paul already eight did. We're gonna take a break.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: When we come back. We're gonna get to your calls
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: and emails. Here on Patriots Unfiltered Verizon, the network America

- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Guess what Evan has done? All right, Evan, what's going on? Well?
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: Good news, bad news, which is pretty typical for Week
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: nine in the NFL season. Good news, Christian Barmore back
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: at Patriots practice, stretching and going through drills with teammates,
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: and the portion that we were able to see, that's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: the good news. The bad news is that David Andrews
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: is still not back at practice, so that concussion is
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: lingering for Andrews. He's still not practicing. DeVante Parker also
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: not at practice with that knee injury that he suffered
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: on the first play of the game against the Jets.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: And no Damien Harris either at Patriots practice. He had
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: the hammy that he was off the injury report going
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: into the game last week, So I would say this
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: one's unknown, right, We don't we don't know exactly what's
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: going on yet with Damien Harris, but those three players missing,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Andrews Parker, Damien Harris not spotting wise was there? How
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: did he look look normal? Yep? Look normal? And I
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: think the other two little notes here. One, we did
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: see Isaiah Wynn taking reps at guard during the open
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: portion of practice. The Pro Bowl floor starts, I'm right,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I'm gonna be right. That might be team but yeah,
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: oh I can guarantee you it won't be because he's
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: got nine games left. Yeah, right, So he was at
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: guard and Jeremiah Farms junior the practice squad defensive lineman.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Flip it now an offensive lineman. Ray going to Bill
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: Murray rabum, okay, yeah, they signed another offensive linement of
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: the practice squaddy. They did, they did, and he was
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: out there. So and they signed a punter, yes, a
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: veteran punter, got yeah. Yeah, full pads, full pads, full pads,
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: outdoors outdoors and unseasonably warm outdoor days. Well, I would
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: imagine that, you know, mild temperature would raise the mood
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: the mood was. Honestly, I think it had the opposite effect. Really,
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: oh oh, hold on, he buried the league because, as
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: we are known to do in this media industry, we
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: can plain about everything correct and now that it is
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: too hot for November. Second, oh right, so we got
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: seventy degree weather in November, which normally you say, wow,
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: what a great day, let's go outside and and chill.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: Know a lot of people being like, I'm sweating. Oh
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: my god, I have too many layers on going on.
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Oh this is what you know? This is oh my god.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: Exactly what food did they serve the rabble today? We
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: have pappuccino, pizzapine, I believe, yeah, this selection of you know,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: I didn't return from Colts practice, but I should also
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: just say that that Jonathan Taylor did not practice today.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: After Okay, he's already queuing up the pause. People know people.
- 1:10:53Speaker 1: But I think that he's going to be able to
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: play really because he I mean, I'm just judging on
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: the fact that he finished the last game. I think
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: it's probably more of a maintenance kind of managed. But
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: he's not he's not right. He hasn't really been one
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: hundred percent all year. Yeah, he had a twenty seven
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: yard run on Sunday on his own read play that
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: last year housecall right instant house call this year got
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: caught from behind. And I think that that's been kind
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: of the story for the Colts all season long, is
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: that everything that they're doing last year at such a
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: high level is just not at the same level this
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: year as it was last year. I actually looked up
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: the numbers today. They are dead last in dv OA
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: as a runoffense, dead last that offensive line like eighty
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: seven yards a game, Yeah, which is incredible because last
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: year they were second. Only Cleveland was higher in football
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: outside of his rankings than Indeed, this year they go
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: from second to thirty second in one offseason. Matt Ryan
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: and turnovers and that kind I think the offensive line
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: has been bad. Quentin Nelson and Ryan Kelly or like
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Pro Bowl all Pro caliber players, and based on what
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: I read, you know, doing my matchup stuff, is that
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: just have not played well at all. Yeah, regressing Colton
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: Quentin Nelson had Quinton a bunch of injuries last year
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: back toe, high ankle sprain, and you just wonder if
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: I mean, he's still pretty young, but maybe it's starting
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: to catch up to him a little bit because he's
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: not the He's still good, but he's not the same
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: player that he that he was a couple of years ago. Yeah,
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: there may have no chance if that's not how they play.
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: Like if they come in here and can't run the
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: ball at all, they have no chance Mike's thing will happen, Yeah,
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: because then it's all on on the kid and he's
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: throwing three or four picks. If they have to throw,
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: Like you look at those games that we talked about
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: Brissette with forty plus attempts, Zach Wilson with forty plus attempts.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: If they ask Sam Ellinger to throw the ball forty
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: plus times, the same thing is going to happen. They're
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: gonna have a mess of turnovers. Yep um Evan, Yes,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: you did all your film review uh and from what
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: I read, you think Mac wasn't all that bad. I've
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: it's funny. I was talking to Chris Ferreira, our Web
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Extraordinary upstairs, and I said to him, by Wednesday, all
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: the takes are like ready to explode out of me, right,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: you know, just sitting on all this stuff. And I
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: was going to come in here guns blazing about Mac
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: because I think the discourse about Mac in this town
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: is getting out of control because we have such a
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: high standard of what good quarterback play is supposed to
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: look like. Because the last guy, well two guys ago,
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: I guess now that was in here that surviving a
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: game against a good defense is not good enough for
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Patriots fans. And I think a lot of the comments
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: that the coaching staff made about Mac, that people are
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: rolling her eyes at, like all they're just pumping him
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: up and things like that, is because bottom line, they
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: don't care about style points, right Like, if you win
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: the game, you win the game. That's all that Bill
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: Belichick and Joe Judge and Matt Patricia care about. I
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: don't think that Mac Jones played well, and quite frankly,
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: in PFF's grading right now, he's thirty seventh out of
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: thirty eight quarterbacks, second to last in their system, only
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: ahead of Baker Mayfield. Right now in terms of quarterback
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: he's twenty fifth in the league a EPA per play.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: He's not had a good season, but he survived the
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: game on Sunday, and he made some plays in the
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: first half, especially on third down crossing route to Jacobi Meyers,
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: a couple scrambles on third downs, making wise decisions, checking
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: the football down and letting John who Smith pick up
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: the yards for him. Things like that that kept the
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: Patriots alive in that game, kept them on schedule in
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: that game. So in many ways, I thought he played
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: well in terms of his decision making, and I guess
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: his understanding of that conversation that he had with Patricia.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: It's okay to take a profit. We don't have to
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: push the ball down the field every single time. We
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: don't have to hunt for the big play every single
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: time we drop back. Sometimes the five yard check down
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: is what the defense is giving you, and you just
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: have to take what is there. And I thought he
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: did a better job of that sort of thing in
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: this game, and far from perfect, wasn't great, wasn't good,
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: but he survived. Okay. I wonder what they're gonna do
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: this week. I mean, it is it was that, you know,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: him making the decisions. Was that a game plan thing
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: of let's focus on the shorter stuff. I mean, you
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: got some good cornerbacks coming up the end this week.
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: I mean, we know Gilmore and Kenny Moore, and you know,
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: I just I wonder how much the rains are going
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: to be loosed on him at all this week and
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: if we'll start to see they're trying to push the
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: ball down the field again. But to me, loosening the
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: reins doesn't automatically mean pushing it down the field. You know,
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: it's it's allowing him to, you know, check at the line.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: It's allowing him to adjust a route if you know that,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: and you know, call out of something that's been called in.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: You're trying to move the ball with thirty seconds stleft
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: in the half. Yeah, you know. It's it's not always
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: like oh okay, the leash is longer, now throw it
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: down the field. That yeah, it's it's not Mentally they
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: put a ton on his plate. And I get that.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: A lot of people don't care, right like you say
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: that you're like whatever, like three four hundred and ninety
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: nine yards almost through three interceptions in this game, Like
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: stop telling me that he was making checks the line
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: of scrimmage. But the bottom line is they put a
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: ton on his plate. They were shotgun a lot of
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: the game. They did run more under center this week,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: but they were a lot of shotgun. They were a
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: lot of empty at times, and they kind of knew
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: that their front, their offensive line wasn't gonna hold up
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: yea and early on in that game. It was very
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: crystal clear that the Jets were gonna get a ton
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: of pressure on Matt Jones, and he was under pressure
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: on thirty nine percent of his dropbacks in this game,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: which for a guy that plays his style is a lot.
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: That's a very that's like an alarming number. Um, you know,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Marcus Cannon gave up eight hurries in this game. Alarming number.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: So you look at some of these things and you say, Okay,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: he managed the game right, Like he wasn't gonna go
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: back and drop back five step drop. You know, Chuck
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: won forty yards down the field against the Jets defense
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: that's playing a lot of too high safety and getting
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: after it with four guys in the pass rush. Like
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: that wasn't this type of game. This just wasn't the
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: moment for it. So you say, and I'll give you
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: two plays that would have made it worse that do
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: not change it. Anything that happened, the pick six and
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: the ball that hit CJ. Mosley in the chest. I
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: gottadmit the pick six bugging me. The pick six is
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: bugging me. The conversation around the pick six is bugging me,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: because first of all, it didn't it didn't flip and count.
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: So like we're getting are all crazy about a play
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: that didn't count? Okay, Second of all, nobody, not people
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: like me that study the film every single week. Not
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: anybody that's talking about this play has any clue who
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: is wrong. No, no, nobody, certainly nobody knows who was
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: actually wrong on the play. So if you're telling me
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: that this play, and I think for a lot of people,
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: this pick six that didn't count is changing the narrative
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: around this entire game for Mac Jones. If you blame
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Mac Jones for the pick six, then you think he
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: played poorly. It's not blame. It's a play that happened
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: that is greatly skewing what you think happened in the game, right,
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: and nothing changed. It's not like, oh he could have
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: done this if if that guy I didn't make a
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: great kip, but he did make a great cat whatever.
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: It's a play that happened that was wiped out for
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: a penalty. It happened, and I don't think people would
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: be as passionately supportive of the performances. And Evan's not
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: necessarily passionately supportive. He's saying he did some good things,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: which I think Mike and I would agree with we
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: talked about in the post game show. Yea, the problem
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: on offense wasn't Mac Jones on Sunday, it was the
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: protection and that's what we said in the post game show. Others, right,
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: Greg Bdard have been far more strongly on the mat
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: camp than Evan just was talking right here as if
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: those plays didn't happen, right. I think Bdard's point though,
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: because he's completely a thousand percent convinced that it was
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Jacobe Myers's fault. To you a point, you've watched it
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: a million times and you don't know. I watch he's
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: convinced it was it was Myers's fault. Look, I can
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: see why just based off of the rules that no,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: it makes sense that it would be Myers's fault because
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: the defender starts inside of him. It's like three clouds,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: so that they're they're going over to the left side
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: of the field with cover three, but the sideline is
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: cleared out right Taykwon Thornton, I think it is who's
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: on the outside. He takes the day third up the
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: field and the sideline is the open area of the
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: field for that deep out to run. Into so Myers
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: based off of everything that we know, which is not
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: a whole lot, based off of not knowing the play call,
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: you would have thought that he would have thought to
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: break out. Now at the same time, you can see
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: why he did what he did, because I think he
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: was kind of trying to bait the corner to falling
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: into the flat and then sit it down and be
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: open on the inside. But I think at the end
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: of the day, you know, that's one play that happens
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: in a football game, You talk about it, you corrected
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: on Monday, and hopefully it doesn't happen again. Yeah, I
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: think you know, and I agree with the way you
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: laid it out, and uh, you know, It's just a
- 1:20:01Speaker 1: part of the problem for me is that credit to
- 1:20:03Speaker 1: Mac for manager of the game. We knew Mac manage
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: a game. I mean, I thought coming out of last year,
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: if there was nothing else, I knew that Mac could
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: manage a game, not make the killer mistake. You know,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: certainly they didn't have it some weeks, but he came
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: in thinking when can he take it, you know, a
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: team and take them to the next level and not
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: just manage the game, but turn the screws on a
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: good defense, and and that's where I think a lot
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: of people are waiting and I'm still waiting for that. That's,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: you know, for this team to take the next step.
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: That's what has to happen. And that's great. I mean
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: it's great Mac manage the game. He got him out
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: of bad calls, He scrambled when he had to, he
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: dealt with the pressure. But like at some point if
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: he's gonna have to start beating good defenses, and I
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: guess pay well, and I, like I said, I think
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: the biggest problem was pass protection. I think he was
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: under siege in this game. And I don't think that's
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: an easy way to play for anybody. That's you know,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: an extenuating circumstance as to why he wasn't maybe better
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: than he was, And I get it. But no one's
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: really talking about how easy this game was for them,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: Like all anybody saw him was how hard it was
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: for him because the Jets have a good defense and
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: they had a lot of pressure. No one's talking about
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: the five times he took over in Jets territory and
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: wasn't able to score any points, right, Like the three
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: drives without virtual over first down three scoring drives without
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: getting the first down, Like, that's amazing. I was talking
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: to somebody upstairs today and they were like, you know,
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: we're really moving the ball. I'm like's been moving the ball?
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: You know? I could tell by the way you said it.
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: And I said, I said, because I go, really, he goes, well,
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: they kicked a lot of field goals. I go, they
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: were they set up at midfield, two hundred and eighty
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: eight yards of offense. They started at midfield like five times.
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: They are twenty third in the league and yards per
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: drive right now, Yeah, which I'm moving the ball. Which
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: you know, like if if they had three hundred yards
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: of offense in the game but ended up with thirty
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: eight points, I would say, well, yeah, they had great
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: field position and they had short fields and they took
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: advantage of it. Like do you could only get thirty
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: eight yards on that drive? That's why they only had
- 1:22:03Speaker 1: three hundred yards of offense. But when you're going four
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: plays no yards field goal, four plays four yards field goal,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: there weren't more yards to get and they weren't getting them.
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: The protection is a major issue right tackle is a major, major,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: major issue. I think guard, you know, I think Cole
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: stranger would be is going to be fine once Andrews
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: comes back. And I tried to table that and be like, look,
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: David Andrews is helping him a lot, Like let's give
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: it an honest look and not just call Cole Strange
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: John Hannah just yet. Like he's getting a lot of
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: help from the Center and he didn't get the same
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: help from James Ferns. I think some of the drives
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: that Paul's talking about, you know, the protection is not great.
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: And I do think that there's also instances where Patricia's
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: got some things in his bag and once the bag
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: is empty, the bag is empty. And to Evans point one,
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: I know at least one maybe two of those short
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: field drives opened with a sack, which like throws you
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: all off, Like now now you're thinking, you know, you know,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: but now you're thinking, don't do anything to lose the
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: field goal as opposed to let's get in the end
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: zone for a touchdown. Yeah, what was your impression of
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: the fourth down play? Um, because we've been having some
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: discussion about what might have happened there or not. It's
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: an RPO. Clearly, I think there was definitely miscommunication with
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: Jacoby Myers. But I think the one problem that I
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: had with Mac on the plays that he seemed to
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: get locked into Jacoby Myers on the play and thought
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: he had Henry definitely had Hunter Henry Um. I think
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: if that's one of those plays that my guess is
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: is he saw like a home run because he's pointing
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: to go up the field to Jacoby Myers because there's
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: no safety over the top because everybody reacted to the run.
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: So I think he's hoping that Jacoby goes up the
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: field and they might actually hit it for a touchdown.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: But really that this is one of those times where
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: taking a profit is in the conversation again Henry on
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: them he if he threw it to Henry right away,
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: he had it. Yeah, sure about some strategy stuff as
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: opposed to Um, like game strategy as opposed to like
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: the XS and knows. What did you think of those
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: two decisions on fourth and one to go for him?
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: I was shocked. I was shocked that they went for it,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: not as much on the goal line the Jacobe touchdown,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: because I think at that point in the game they
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: had Wilson seeing ghosts and like, even if they don't
- 1:24:17Speaker 1: get it he's got to go ninety five yards the
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: other direction to score a touchdown. And I think they
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: liked their chances. But the one that Mike just asked
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: about in the last three or four years, that's a
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: clear kick situation for Bill. Clear kick. But I think
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: it's got to change. Like I wasn't shocked that he
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: went for it, because I've seen him go for fourth downs,
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I've seen him go for field goals. What what I
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: don't understand is usually I feel like those decisions are
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: based on the game, and in this game, I don't
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: think he went by based on the game, because if
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: you go and based on the game, you kick, and
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: field goals take the point both times. You think it's
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: more about what he had wanted to prove something you
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: had to know. I don't think he wanted to prove anything.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: I just think he decided to go for it because
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: it was clear you will if you could get to twenty,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: you were gonna win the game. That game was going
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: to be in the teams. That was going to be
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: in the teams. And I mean, I don't know the
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: second fourth down, he had only thrown one pick. By
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: the second fourth down. It was the first drive of
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: the second half, right, So he had one overthrow of
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: a of a back over the middle at that point.
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: He didn't know that Zach Wilson was going to do
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: that after that Well, I'm sorry, I'm sure he did.
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: I just didn't think it was was in line with
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: how he normally goes, like against Kansas City against Buffalo,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: by all means, you're going for fourth and one. By
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: all means like field goals ain't winning this game. That game,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: you could have kicked all field goals and won that game. Yeah,
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: So what if he's playing like I know, this is
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: getting into a little bit of a vortex here, but
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: they're gonna have to go for it against Buffalo. I
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: think that they might have to go again for it
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: against Miami at this rate, because Miami has the best
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: passing offense in the league right now. If we don't
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: start now, when are we gonna When are we going
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: to learn it? When are we gonna This is in
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: game I hate to call it in game practice, but
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: it's kind of in game practice. It's a good defense.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: They had a good play that they thought was going
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: to work in this situation. Well, and in that case,
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: I like that stuff. I mean I like, you know,
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: if if we talk about like pushing the ball down
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: the field, just you know, trying to get the offense
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: to the next level by any means necessary, and it doesn't,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: you know, have to necessarily be personnel. Like I like
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: that stuff. And if that's the case, then I think
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: that that's exactly what the kind of stuff that they
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: have to do to you know, put the pressure on
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: these guys in and you know, not just the players,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: but the coaches too. I think understanding you know, what's
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: going to work, what we can do in short yardage
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: fortune stuff, I'm really interested. I mean you're never going
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: to get an answer, but that's the stuff I'm interested in,
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Like why yes on this one, no on that one,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: and what goes into it. But it's interesting, you know
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: how the tables have turned because you know, during the
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: Brady era, I always said that you know, the most
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: aggressive fourth thound. Well, no, the Patriots are forcing the
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: other AFC East teams to make bad decisions, whether it's
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: in the offseason with personnel or in game. And now
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: it's the Patriots like chasing the Bills and kind of everything.
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: Our mindset is how do we beat the Bills? How
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: do we beat the Bills? You know what it used
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: to be for all these other teams? How do we
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: beat Brady and the Patriots? You know? And they would
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: you know, I think for me, like I mean not
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: to get off topic, but I mean for me, it's like,
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: how the hell do you How does anyone stop Josh Allen?
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: I mean you just have to kind of hope and
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: pray that Josh Allen has enough bad plays, because he
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: still has some that it impacts the outcome of the game.
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: Talk about like the guy who just gets it now
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: and like it's coming easy to him. He's in con
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: total control. You gotta hope that it's one of those games.
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: And he had like a little bit I don't know
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: if you guys watch Sunday Night, Yeah, a little. I
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: think they kind of lost interest, to be honest with me.
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: And he was playing like playground ball again, like and
- 1:27:41Speaker 1: you know, he threw one away like Zach Wilson, he
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: try to throw one away, he try to turf it
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: and the guy picked it off. Like that can't happen.
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: I think the difference with with Allen too now then
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: like I can only think of maybe like Prime Cam,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: like he finishes runs like he's not just trying to
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: like he's not Lamar. Like Lamar will run and then
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: he'll dance out of bounds or he'll slide and kind
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: of give himself up. Josh Allen is coming for you,
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: right he like we're got that touchdown. He through too
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: where it's like and you gotta like you're you gotta
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: train coming head on and you're either gonna get run
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: over or he's gonna rock. If Brock was a quarterback,
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: you know, like he's just go out there. You know,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: he's like a big kid who's just better than everybody else.
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: You know, we had a lot of lots of people
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: holding on who've been holding on for a while. So
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: let's get to the A sticket hot line. Calvin and Denver.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: You're still there, Calvin, Yeah, I'm so thanks for holding on. Yeah,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: just like hearing the show. Thank you. M hoping all
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: of you guys are doing good on this Wednesday. Thank
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: you much. Um So, I'll trying to email this question
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: in um a couple of times, but you guys have
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: a ready. UM. I just want to know, have you
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: guys ever thought about adding somebody onto the show? Like
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: one of the callers like William and Philo, anybody, Well,
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: they're kind of already on the show. I mean, it's
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: just that they're calling in. You know, you only have
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: so many microphones in the studio. But um, you know
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: they're they're regulars. Yeah, that's true. And I also do
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: want to give them all a shout out just for
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: all the calls and questions. It definitely helps get their
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: show being entertaining and whatnot. There's so many dedicated people
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: this show. Thank you, Calvin, appreciate that he held out
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: for over an hour for that. Um. Jerry's in New Orleans.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: What's up? Jerry? Hello? What's going on? Guys? Hello Jerry, Jerry?
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: I do I do? Just want to say my name
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: is Jerry, like j R E D Like the drawers. Jared,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: I'm sorry our crack producer. I make fun of the
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: producer can kill you in a variety of ways. Hello Jared.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: My question I'll pick this off air. UM, but I
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: wrote this in maybe like once before. I'm not sure
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: if your guys saw it. Um, but recently me and
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: my friend have started a podcast, and um, I would
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: I want to know where y'all stand on how y'all game? Podcasters?
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: For the team. And I also want to know if
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: y'a wouldn't mind given my episode to listen, just to
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: you know, get my name out the well, why don't
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: you give out the name of your podcast? Okay, um
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: for for the listeners and y'all guys, it's called After
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: the Huddle Um on Spotify. Okay, um French with us Okay,
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: after the Huddle, Yes, after the Huddle, it's on Spotify.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: It's got um a football logo on a on a
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: field kind of like a cartoonish logo looking type thing.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: But that's that was just my idea, you know, I
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: want to get my name out there. So I was
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: hoping maybe y'all can you know, broadcasting out there, and
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: maybe y'all get it, give it a little. We might.
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: I doubt it, but we might. You know. It's all good,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: all busy people, Yeah, thank you, busy, good luck, and
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: that as far as we got it. Like we were
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: doing this podcast before they were podcasts, like the world
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: podcast wasn't invented when we started invented it, I think. Yeah. Well,
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I mean the funny part is Evan and I probably
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: did quite a Evan I probably did a few podcasts together.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: Over the years and like the twenty tens, and I
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: remember going on with you in Barth and uh, you know,
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: discovering blog talk radio, which made it really easy to
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: just kind of start a podcast and be able to
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: as a guy named Eric Eric friends that I did.
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: He came in one time here and let him host,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: and I was like, remoted in from California, but I
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: was all, I was all bummed out. He's like, oh
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: my gosh, this is amazing. Patriost dot com is gonna
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: let me come in and host the show. And I'm like,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: I'm in California. Um, but you know, hey, good luck
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: with your podcast. I mean it's uh, it's fun. I
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: mean you've seen Claire do it. I mean Claire has
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: been you know, God in a few years, she's ramped
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: up her podcasting and blogging and all that stuff. So
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: it's just I think you got to do it and
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: be consistent and stacked day after day after atter episode
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: after and get better and reach out to people and
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: beat the bushes and uh, you know, not to not
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: to pat ourselves on the back. But that's how Mike
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: and I started in this industry, was just taking our
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: own initiative with a laptop and a podcast and yeah, hello,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: mister Baddard, would you be willing to come? I mean,
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: I mean, Chris Price. I tell you that all the time,
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: Like I get asked to do those things, and I
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: almost always say, yeah, I've been I've been on clears
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: a couple of times, Like why would you know when
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: I speak at a lot of those school kind of things,
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: career things, you know, John Rooks college class And that's
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: like for me, that's like one hundred percent. That the
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: difference of when I was growing up and trying to
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: do this and figuring it out, like they just didn't
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: have these avenues. Now, if you don't have anybody that
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: wants to hire you or is interested and knows about you,
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: just do it. Yep, you can do it on your
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: own now, yeah, you know, it's not just like doing
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: play by play into a spoon right washing Again, you
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: can create. You can make your own make your own tape,
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: create your own destination, do a podcast like Mike and
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: Evan did. And you know, I was fortunate enough to
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: be on the ground floor of the original podcast with Fred,
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: so I just wrote Fred's Coaketails. But you guys did
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: it the hard way, and and that's like any that's
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: that would be my number one advice if you want
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: to do something like this, just do it. Yeah, get
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: better at it by reps. Yeah, that's and that's the
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: big things, like especially in sports, where I feel like
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: you need a voice and you need an angle to things,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: and you need something that's gonna, you know, make you
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: stick out, Like mine was the stupid hoodie database, which
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: just was like, you know, I was bored at work
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: one day and start of putting together you just you
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: need to find kind of an angle, um that makes
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: you stand out a little bit. Mikes and Puerto Rico. Hey, Mike, Mike,
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: do you want to move up here and be on
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: the show permanently? Therebody do it today? Great? Okay, So sorry, Fred,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: I don't have a bone or coming on you, but
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: I do have one for Evan to have one for
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: you and one for fall, So I'll start on the positive.
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: I um duce perfectly laid out my issue with max
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: Um as far as his approach, the way that he
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: handles himself on the field, and just in his general
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: attitude and he is on the field, and I think
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: given that the team takes your cue, the cues from
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: the quarterback. I wonder if that's the that's the difference
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: on how the team just reacts and plays on the field,
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: is because of the way that Mac conducts himself, you know,
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: going the extra yard, just doing the dumb stuff, dumb
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: mistakes and just petulant and looking for that extra yard,
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: just by throwing himself on the ground and playing possum
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: for for like a second, um going on to um Paul.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: I guess that's the reason why we need the video,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: because I don't know what his face was when he, uh,
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: if he gives to look yesterday when he said somebody
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: mentioned about where was the team be without Robonda Stevenson
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: and he said, oh, they still be four and four.
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: So he's saying he's the best player on the field.
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: But at the same time, if he wouldn't say he's
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: the best player on the Patriots, I think he's the
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Patriots best players. Yeah. I've said that, like in the
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: summer is when I said that, But even till now,
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: he's proven to be the most the best player on
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: the Patriots, right, I think he's the Patriots best player, yes, yeah,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: and he's the best Patriots. He's the best player on
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yeah, that's what I think. Yeah, but that's
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: just my opinion. That doesn't mean he's best player. That
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: doesn't mean I'm right. Yeah, is he the best player?
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: But but in Europe? Yes, I said that in the summer.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: If he wasn't on the field, even though he's the
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: best player on the Patriots, the record would still be
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: four or four. Like, is this a running backs for me? Yes? Yeah,
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: I hear you, Paul thanks running back to a loose change. Yeah,
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: I think that you can kick five field goals even
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: without the best player on the team being a running back. Yeah,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: I do. But would you be imps Yes, because you
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: took over in field goal range four and up four
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: of those five times. Yes, to be fair, Rmandre does
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: matter like running backs don't matter. Again, I didn't. I
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: didn't say it, just you weren't here yesterday. I didn't
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: say he doesn't matter, which is what someone said i'd said. Yeah,
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: someone claims that I said he's irrelevant. He's not irrelevant.
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: He's a really good player, and I think he's the
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: team's best player. And I think it's inarguable that at
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: worst he's second best behind Judeon. Like I don't really
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: think there's another argument to be made for someone else.
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: But that doesn't mean I think he's irrelevant, which is
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: what someone credited me with saying yesterday. But I can
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: see where people say, well, if they're four and four
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: without him, on four and four with him, how relevant?
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Because it's a running back and I think if Damian
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: Harris played, it wouldn't be as good. He wouldn't have
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: like seven catches and and you know like that, because
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: I don't think he's as good, uh, you know, out
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: of the backfield and whatnot as a receiver. But I
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: didn't like, for example, that one play where the thirty
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: five yard run was special, absolutely right, And if that
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: doesn't happen, like how more quickly does I think they
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: still would have I still think they would have won
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: the game. Like I don't think it's a stretch. I
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: don't know. I like, I don't think the Jets would
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: have scored their last touchdown if they didn't if the
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: Patriots needed to stop them. What does that make any sense?
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: What about like in the game where Harris got hurt
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: and Stevenson ran from and they won twenty nine nothing.
- 1:37:21Speaker 1: I think they probably would have won if Peter Strong
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: had to fill in it like twenty nine nothing, I
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: think they can handle. That sounds like he's not very relevant.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: I mean, do you understand every because you speaking And
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: I think on the surface, if people want to look
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: out at the surface and say, if you took their
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: best player away, they'd be exactly the same, And I
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: think that's what people like response. But I think Paul
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: is laying out the nuance and I think and I'm
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: also trying to illustrate the fact of why I think
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: they're a mediocre team because the best player is a
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: running back, and running backs like Christian McCaffrey, who I
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: think is a dynamite player, don't really move the needle
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: in terms of wins and losses. I don't know help
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: forty nine ers last week? Did he? Yeah? Yeah, I know.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: They wouldn't have been able to win that game. Now
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: they would only have won seven in a row against
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: the Rams. Now they want eight in a row. This
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: is one that like, you're weirdly on the analytics side
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: on this one. You realize that, right, but you but
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: you also have to know me well enough to know
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: it has nothing to do with it. That's why I said,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: I mean you're coming over to the nerds. I just
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: want to be like them that class. Yes, he's up.
- 1:38:32Speaker 1: There are so many ways to make Paul angry. This
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: is the opposite of anger on the on the nuanced
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: front of things, I actually wanted to um Evan and
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: this is not I'm not trying to be like super critical.
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: I just want to understand your take on Mack a
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: little bit better, because there are two things that seemed inconsistent. Um.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Like a couple of weeks ago, I think during the
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: when when when Paul and Fred were having that about
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: Max ego thing, you came up with the I thought
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: pretty cool point that the new look pages oftense it
- 1:39:06Speaker 1: looked like it was almost in a way accommodating Max
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: because it was like Alabama based in some aspects. But
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: then last week it sounded like you were saying this
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: this this this offensive offensive play calling just doesn't seem
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: like appropriate for Max style of play. So maybe I'm
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: a moron and don't understand the nuance there. But what
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: am I not getting? What's the best? Sometimes what's best
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: for you is not what you actually want it to be,
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: right Like I you know, I think that Brussels Spross.
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: I think that sometimes we look at things in life
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: and we're like, oh, like I really wish I Like,
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: for me, I really wish I could be six foot two.
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: But I'm just not six foot two, right, So I
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: think Mac wishes, No, I'm not. This is just me
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: talking and to this Collars point here in this case,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: I think Mac wants to be a downfield passer. I
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: think he wants to be more a and I think
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: in some ways they want them to be more aggressive too.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: But I think due to their personnel and also his
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: physical tools, it is probably not the best style of
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: play for him in the NFL. At Alabama, when you
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: have great protection and you have Davante Smith and you
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: have Jalen Waddle, and you have John Metchi and you
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: have receivers up to Wazoo that beat everybody one on
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: one across the field, then you can be a downfield
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: vertical passing system, even with a quarterback that doesn't have
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: a Josh Allen like arm. But when you get to
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: this stage, at this level, you can't get where I
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: get where youre coming from. That. I just thought it
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: sounded like initially a couple of weeks ago, it's und
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: of like your your sympathies were kind of aligned with Mac,
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: Like you were saying, this is what Max Mac want.
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: And last week it sound like your sympathies were you know,
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: you were just kind of focusing on how the coaches
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: and play calling is not doing right by Max. So
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: like right now, because I think it's on the coaches
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: to say to Mac if this is the case, it's
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: on the coaches to stay to Mac, hey, that's not
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: how you're going to win in this league. You are
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: not going to win in this league throwing the ball
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: deep on twenty percent of your drop backs and leading
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: the league in deep passing rate. That's not Mac Jones.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: And whether he wants to be that or not, they
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: have to coach that out of him. And I think
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: some guys like Zach Wilson, the Jets have to coach
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: the mistakes out of them, right, and and the and
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: the turnovers and the boneheaded you're saying, the offensive. The
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: coaching staff basically spent the entire summer developing an offense
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: that they thought was wrong for Mac in order to
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: make him happy. But now they're trying to tell him, now,
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: you see, we shouldn't we shouldn't have been playing them now.
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: It's not that data, it's not that deep. I just
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: think that they were trying to be more explosive as
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: an offense. It hasn't really been super successful because of
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: reasons that aren't just Mac Jones. It's also because they
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: don't have the protection right now to do it. I mean,
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: on Sunday against the Jets, they try to dial up
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: a double move to Kendrick Bourne, Marcus Cannon gets beat,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: the ball gets tipped up in the air and it's
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: an interception. Is that mac Jones's fault? Not necessarily, But
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna play spe side of the street here a
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: little bit. I just don't think that. Okay, maybe I'm
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: not getting my point across track, but I'm gonna, you know,
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: speak for speed a little bit, and speed you can
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: tell me. But so we all heard these stories about
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Mac in the offseason, asking why why are we making
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: these changes? Why are we doing this? Well, that's to
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: me sound if that's true that Mac kind of liked
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: last year's offense, and last year's offense wasn't a vertical
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: down the field offense, So to me, that sounds like
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: Mac wanted a continuation of that, he didn't want the
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Alabama down the field, So something we can I don't
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: care who's in the wrong, like it honestly doesn't matter
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: to me. It's just the bottom line is that's not
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: suited for him. It's not working right, Like the vertical
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: stuff is not working when he holds the ball for
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: more than two and a half seconds, which in turn
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: suggests that they're trying to get guys up the field
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: for him to hit deep shots down the field. He
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: has seven turnover worthy plays out of nine of his
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: turnover worthy plays, he's one to five touchdown interception ratio
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: when he holds the football. He is not doing well
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: in that climate because a I think that there is
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: some physical limitations there about how he can hit the
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: tighter window throws down the field. But more importantly probably
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: is the protection and the issues that they're having up
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: front with getting guys up the field. So I'll ultimately
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: bottom line, I don't care who wants what or what
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: is what or anything. It really doesn't matter to me.
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: But now that we've recognized that this is where like
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: the all twenty two side of things goes well with
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Paul's like overall global enough because I think Paul's makes
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: me an important point here. Confused may you may you
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: may You've been you have routinely now been making this
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: really good point that the Patriots need to try out
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: at different offense this year if they're going to be
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: competing with the cream of the crop? Is there is
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: there a middle I don't know. They have to do
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: whatever they do, they have to do it really well.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: Ye see, I have just been saying that. I can
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: understand if their thought process was what Speed just said, Like,
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: if their thought process was that offense can only take
- 1:44:07Speaker 1: us so far, and if we want to be a player,
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: we need to do some different things offensively. I could
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: understand if they looked at it that way, because I
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: think their offense as constructed is limited, and I think
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: you saw some of that on Sunday. Okay, but there's
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: a middle ground, right, And that's been my whole thing
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: all along. It's not about all or one thing. Last year,
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: Mac Jones is eleven percent deep passing right this year
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: he's over twenty percent, So can we be fifteen? Like,
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: can we do a little bit more of that? Sometimes?
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: Throw them into the this is where, like you know,
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: when you were laughing at me about you know, I
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: want to be an analytics guy, but this is why
- 1:44:39Speaker 1: I get I pushed back a little on the analytics,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: Like I think they've played, Like he's played five games,
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: and we just look at this and like, you know,
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: can we get like like percentages don't mean anything? Like
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: Jack Jones, I think his percentage? Why's the best cornerback
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: in football? Does anyone think he's the best cornerback on
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: the Patriots, let alone football? I'm not going to go
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: down that, Okay, So, like percentages, to me, in a
- 1:44:59Speaker 1: very small sample size can be blown out of proportion,
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: and I think some of that has been true with
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: mac Jones. He doesn't have to throw the ball, like
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: when you throw the ball downfield, like just give me
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: a rough estimate how many times they've thrown the ball
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: down like over twenty yards about twenty zappy too, or
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: just just with Macy. Okay, so you throw like four
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: picks and that dramatically hurts the number, but maybe the
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: number would be six picks with like eighty throws down
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: field and all of a sudden, the percentage isn't out
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: of whack. But right now, early on Evans one thousand percent,
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: right hasn't worked. The offense has it's it's looked. I
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: think the word you always use as clunky, like, it
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: kind of looks clunky. You you do, I like the clunky, Yeah,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: you like the clunky clunky like, so I get it.
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: But I just think that sometimes I just look at
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: it that I know what, right, I don't care. I
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: think it is. I don't care when they started planning
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: on it, if it was in the spring, or if
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: it was the summer, if it was now. I think
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: a lot of times Bill Belichick talks about it. You know,
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: you don't know who you are, and I and I
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: think in a lot of ways, the first half of
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: the season is learning what you are good at as
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: an And to that point, I heard something recently out
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: of Vegas that they're saying that the problem with McDaniels
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: is that he's trying to fit his team. He's trying
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: to fit his team to his offense rather than creating
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: an offense that's best for his players. And I wonder,
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: and I wonder now that he's gone, if if the
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: existing coaching staff said last year, we were trying to
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: fit our players into what Josh wanted to do, We're
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: gonna we're gonna change that around, and we're gonna look
- 1:46:39Speaker 1: at our players and do what's best for them. And
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: maybe they're just wrong, you know, but right, but I wonder, like, like,
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: we have no idea what's going on. That's the problem
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: we're speculating. But I wonder if like what they thought
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: was best for this team coming out of the summer
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: was just wrong, like or or they just can't execute decision. Well,
- 1:46:59Speaker 1: I'm that's besides the point two. But it's this ship
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: is sailed, okay, Ma Patricius the quordina. I think the
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: one thing that really like stands out to me with
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: Mac is that, ultimately what the responsibility of the coaching
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: staff for the quarterback specifically is to make life as
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: easy on the quarterback as possible because it's a very
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: very difficult position to play. That's why this Shanahan system
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: has been so successful and why so many teams have
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: adopted it is because it's an inherently easy system to
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: play in as a quarterback. And that's the idea is
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: to make it easy as possible. Mike makes fun of
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: me when I get excited. A second Mike gets excited.
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: It gets makes fun of me when I get excited
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: about the RPOs right yesterday, texting me is like a man,
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: you're really losing it over the RPOs. The reason why
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: I get excited about the RPOs is twofold one, the
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: quarterback likes them, okay, and anything the quarterback likes should
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: be in the playbook. And number two. They are easy
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: to execute when you know how to do it. Like
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: when you it's easy yards. Okay, you get a too
- 1:47:59Speaker 1: high look and they're three guys over the screen. You
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: run the football seven yards. Second and four becomes first
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: and ten. When you have the numbers on the screen,
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: you throw the screen nine yards of Jakobe Myers. Here
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: we go first and second down, easy yardage. That's what
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: I'm looking for too many times early on in the season,
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: and even at times in this Jets game. I'll go
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: back to the interception that actually counted. Okay, Why in
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: the world, when we know that we can't block them,
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: why are we dialing up a double move on third
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: and nine? And why are we asking Mac Jones to
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: throw the ball forty yards down the field on third
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: and nine when we know that we cannot block them.
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: That is it makes no sense. And look can I
- 1:48:41Speaker 1: they just offer like a like a completely hypothetical possibility
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: because I think at that stage in the game they
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: had converted a number of third downs. How did they
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: convert them though? With short throws underneath that were odds
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: after the catch? So why file up a double move?
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: Because the last four times we were in like a
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: third and five plus, we threw the ball two yards
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: and Jonathan Smith, you know, made a nice play and
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: got a first down. And Jacoby Myers made a nice
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: play and caught a block from Hunter Henrying and got
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: a first down. So this time we're gonna make him
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: think we're gonna do that again, and we're gonna try
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: a double move and we're gonna catch it dumb because
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: they couldn't block him and they chip, they check it
- 1:49:24Speaker 1: and get what. They did everything they tried. They tried
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: to do everything they could. But I'm just saying, like
- 1:49:28Speaker 1: you say, why would you do that? Because I'm trying
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: to make plays. Okay, I'm trying to see if I'm
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: setting up a play. What about the third down to
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: Jacoby where they threw it to the crosser and they
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: just it's just right past the sticks. So football outsiders
- 1:49:42Speaker 1: keeps track of the stat that they call Alex. It's
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: after Alex Smith, Okay, not Alex Barthur's in the other room.
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: The checkdowns, it's out of Alex Smith. Third doubt, are
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: you throwing past the sticks or not? On third doubt?
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: The first three starts of the year for Mac Jones,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: weeks one through three, he was number one in the
- 1:49:57Speaker 1: league and throwing the ball past the sticks on first down.
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: He they're throwing the ball on average five yards past
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: the sticks on third down. And this game against the Jets,
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: they were negative two, so they went from five yards
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: past the sticks to two yards in front of the sticks. Now, statistically,
- 1:50:14Speaker 1: over the course of a season, it bears out that
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: throwing past the sticks is better. Like that's obvious, right,
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: But I think at the same time we're gonna go
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: back to is what are they good at? What are
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: they good at as an offense? That to me is
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: where we've all find common ground. And throwing the ball
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: forty yards down the field when Marcus Cannon is playing
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: right tackle and they're destroying you up front is not
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: what you are good at. What you were good at
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: was the Jacoby Myers crossed put any of this on
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: Mac don't put any of this on that. I mean, like,
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: I think he needs things easier than than an NFL
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: quarterback shouldn't need. That's kind of my eyes. No, I
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: think you're totally wrong because I think what you what
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: you remember is that NFL quarterbacks are Tom Brady. Okay,
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: and Tom Brady you could call whatever you want, And
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: how's that not fair? Who's who's an NFL quarterback? Like?
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Do you think do you think do you think he's
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: Tom Brady's the only quarterback that I'm judging Mac Jones
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: in related to. I mean, he's the only quarterback that
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: you've seen a lot of. Okay, So what do you think?
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: What do you think Miami? What do you think Miami
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: is doing with TA right now? What do you think
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: Miami is doing with TA right now? Do you think
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: that they're putting all this responsibility on to his shoulders
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: or do you think they're just saying, Hey, you see
- 1:51:26Speaker 1: that guy Tyree Hill over there, he's really fast, throw
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: him the football, and we're going to find ways to
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: get Tyree Hill open, and you're gonna find ways to
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: get him the football. Do you think Twa Tagavaloa has
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: all of a sudden overnight just become this great downfield
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: pastor like now, all of a sudden, he's got this
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: cannon arm and he can throw the ball down the
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: field and he's really really good at throwing the ball deep?
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: Or do you think that the Dolphins traded for Tyree Hill?
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: So this is how you think Mac would look with
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Tyrie Hill? Do you think it would look the same
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: as the same if you're not going to get an
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: answer that you want, but I totally agree with you,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: it wouldn't look as good. How would you think that
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: you that you know, you guys, come on, you guys
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: think that it wouldn't look as good as it does
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: right now? And I don't, okay, But let's just are
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: you saying that because of Ma Patricia. I don't think
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: he has the arm I think, don't. I don't think
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: he throws with as much anticipation there was one last year.
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: And you think two is throwing the seam through two
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: is throwing deep over routes to Tyree Hill, who's got
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: five yards of separation, And you mean, I know he sucks.
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: I know he's never lost to the Patriots, and I
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: know he's like nineteen and ninety I know he sucks.
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: I know he had those games with Tyreek Hill too.
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: I know he's number one of the league Patriots fans
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: is how bad too? It is? And by the way,
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: go back four years and he was better than him
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: in college too, But not saying he's bad. Didn't say
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: it was bad. I didn't say it was I don't
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: think it would look as good as you think that
- 1:52:47Speaker 1: it would look as good. I'm sorry, that's what I feel.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: There's no way of knowing it would it look better.
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: I don't think it would look as good if you
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: have a guy like Waddle and Ta I mean Hill
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: on your team, the offense wouldn't look better. Unbelieving, I
- 1:53:00Speaker 1: don't think Mac would look as good as Toua has
- 1:53:02Speaker 1: looked with those guys. That's the question. I didn't ask
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: what the Patriots offense would be better with Tyree Hill
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: and Jalen Waddle? Yes, yeah, absolutely, Jalen Waddle And you
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: want to substitute Waddle and Hill for Born in Parker,
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: the Patriots offense would look better and who's getting in there?
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: But it wouldn't look as good as it looks in
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: Miami with Ta. Wow? Why the show has been able
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: to go on forever, because you can come up with
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: endless hypotheticals, disagree about them right correct, and never and
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: by the way, never have an answer. Yeah, because it's
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: it's impossible. It's an impossible subjective thing. Do you know
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: who the number one rated passer in the league right
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: now is? Do you think he's the best quarterback in
- 1:53:41Speaker 1: the league. I don't think he's the best quarterback in
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: the league. That's not what the question was. The question
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: was how do I think it would look with Mac
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: Jones doing it? I don't think it would look as good.
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: I think you're wrong. But that's okay, Like we we
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: can look at the same thing and not see it
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: the same way, like Fred and not even doing it
- 1:53:55Speaker 1: for twenty three No, I'm not saying it's a bad thing.
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: I'm just saying I just think I think the Mac
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: disc or gotten out of control, honestly, But this is
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: not about Mac discourse. I think TOA is largely considered
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: to be an abject stiff in this town. I think
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: people think too us. Are you letting that cloud your judgment?
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: What other people? I'm watching and I'm seeing a guy
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: who somehow found a way to win and now has
- 1:54:19Speaker 1: weapons and is excelling. But and you couldn't say the
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: same about Mac. You've been telling me he has Wait
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: a minute, wait, you couldn't imagine the same thing would
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: happen for mac Ife based on the way I'm playing,
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: I don't think Mac played as well as TOA before
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: he got the weapons. Everybody said that he sucked. When
- 1:54:35Speaker 1: you get weapons and you get an offensive coordinator that
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: knows how to design plays, the quarterback plays better. Imagine
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: that we'll see shocking. I mean we'll see. Well, we
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: can't see because no, someday he'll he'll have these and
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: he'll run out of excuse. To me, right now, we're
- 1:54:50Speaker 1: kind of in limbo. You've been telling me if they
- 1:54:52Speaker 1: have the pieces, that's the only good, because they're not.
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: So it's not excuses, it's just explaining why. I don't
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: know if Mac on his own would be a top
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: five quarterback, Okay, I don't. I don't think that necessarily.
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: I think that he's an average NFL talent. I think
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: he's Derek Carr. I think he's Kirk Cousins. I think
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: he's right in that category. Okay, But the reason why
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: he's twenty fifth in the league in EPA and PFF
- 1:55:16Speaker 1: has him as the second worst quarterback in the league.
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: Is because of things out of his control that are
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: not relative to him as a quarterback. Because last year
- 1:55:25Speaker 1: he wasn't that when he had a better coordinator and
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: he had people around him that were playing well. So
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: I don't think that it's just now. I think there's
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: any chance that teams have sort of watched him now
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: for twenty five games and sort of better understanding at
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: him all of the evidence that we have in the NFL,
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: And it's not just two I just used him as
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: an example. We can go to Aaron Rodgers, who is
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: throwing to nobody in Green Bay and looks washed with
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: the Packers because he's got no receivers. Last year he
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: won the MVP because he had DeVante Adams on his team.
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: So I think we can go across the tired. I mean,
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: that's a relevant comp Aaron Rodgers. It's not about comping
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: Mac toa but if he if he can look bad,
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: then an have you watched any Green Bay games? Yeah?
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: What do you think the problem with Green Bay's offenses?
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: They don't have weapons. I think it's Aaron Rodgers doesn't
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: give a crap because he's playing as if he does
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: not care one thing. He did nothing all off season.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: He did nothing, but bitch, he got his money and
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: he just said whatever I mean, did I mean, there's
- 1:56:26Speaker 1: stretches of that, but like I've seen lately with him
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: making actually more of an effort to show that he cares.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: I think he calls out his teammates. I think Aaron
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: Rodgers the same thing that twenty nineteen Brady was In
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, Brady certainly wasn't washed, he goes. I don't
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: think that Aaron Rodgers is washed. I don't think he cared.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: But but okay, but I don't think twenty nineteen Brady cared,
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: to be honest with you, every single time he got
- 1:56:47Speaker 1: up to the podium after they beat the Eagles in Philadelphia.
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: I think he's a miserable guy in the world. I
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: think he cared plenty well. I think that's why he
- 1:56:53Speaker 1: looks if you don't care, if he could call out
- 1:56:56Speaker 1: your teammates, I think Brady did that. But he's telling
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: everybody it ain't my fault. No. But but if he
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: didn't care, would he bother to call his teammates? Yes,
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: because he wants to make sure no one thinks it's
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: his fault because he cares. No, he cares about what
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: people think of him. Yes, yeah, you're right right, he does.
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: We never want to say he doesn't care. I meant
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: about losing. He cares about what people think about him. Uh.
- 1:57:19Speaker 1: Final call for the final? Uh. And Todd's in North Carolina.
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: What's up, Todd? I'm afraid to even ask my question
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: with what just happened? Okay? Anyway, all right? Like Paul,
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: what just happened? Ever, didn't I disagreed about something like that?
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: The world didn't end? Fine, it's I love it, it's good,
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: it's I think it's good. Honest discourse. Of course, one
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: person from Paul. I need to know if you're serious
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: or not when you say that you think Bill just
- 1:57:44Speaker 1: believes that he can win without a without a quarterback,
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: and you can put anybody in there and still win.
- 1:57:49Speaker 1: When did I say that that's fell good? No? Actually
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: Paul said that the other day, and I was like, what, okay, whatever,
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: I like, I'm just done with Like, well, I didn't
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: put it in your mouthball you put it all right?
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: What is the point tiew? And now I really am
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: man what is the point? What is your point? Tell
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: me why I'm wrong, like I am every other time
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: you call you're a one trick pony? What what did
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: I What did I do that offended you so much?
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: Actually I was going to agree with you. Why I
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: didn't say it? So you don't agree with me, Well,
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: then I guess I don't. But you know, why are
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: we always looking at all the team and saying, oh,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: this player doesn't do this, and this players this, and
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: this players this, and we're not taking a look and saying, Okay,
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: it's our team composition, it's our team approach. And it
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: might just, you know, go back to being Bill's problem.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: Bill's just not got it anymore. Maybe his fastball is
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: just a I don't think it's just you know, for clarity,
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: I may have said things like Bill doesn't feel like
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: he needs to have the best quarterback in the league
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: to win. He feels like he can have an average quarterback.
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: And I may have said something like that, but I
- 1:58:56Speaker 1: didn't say you could win with anybody. Although I will
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: sell you this, if he had his hands on Zach
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: Wilson from the start, they'd be the better chance of
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: Zach Wilson being a star than Yeah, the lack of coaching.
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: Some agree with the guidance he's getting in New York
- 1:59:14Speaker 1: because he's doing the same things wrong today than he
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: did the first day I saw him play. Yeah, all right, Todd,
