- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on artists.
- 0:12Speaker 1: In this episode, what's that in the sky. It's a bird,
- 0:14Speaker 1: It's a plane, Yes, it's a plane. We're talking to
- 0:19Speaker 1: the leading directors of flight safety videos.
- 0:24Speaker 2: Airplanes are the most stressful place in the world, and
- 0:28Speaker 2: you have to know what's going on when something goes down.
- 0:31Speaker 2: But it's fun to give information in an exciting way.
- 0:35Speaker 2: These directors of flight safety videos found innovative and exciting
- 0:40Speaker 2: new ways to tell you to buckle your seatbelt, put
- 0:42Speaker 2: on flotation devices, and put on air masks before you
- 0:45Speaker 2: put on one to a child.
- 0:46Speaker 3: So the next time you have to make an emergency landing,
- 0:49Speaker 3: you'll know exactly what to do. Let's listen in.
- 1:00Speaker 4: Hello, guys, what's up.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Guys, Hello everybody, Hello guys.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Great to see a lovely day. Lovely day here. Oh
- 1:08Speaker 2: excuse me, thank you. Lovely day here, lovely day. Great
- 1:12Speaker 2: to see everybody.
- 1:13Speaker 5: It's a lovely day to day.
- 1:15Speaker 4: So love you.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I love that. I love that energy from you.
- 1:21Speaker 5: Oh thank you.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I love that. And I love your energy too, and
- 1:25Speaker 2: I love the way your hair is so wind swept today.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I love to stand behind the wind. The what do
- 1:32Speaker 3: you call it the the Yes.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I love to stand in front of the fan and
- 1:38Speaker 3: feel as if I being blasted by an aeroplane.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I love that, and I love airplanes, and I think
- 1:45Speaker 2: we all love airplanes here, am I right? Oh?
- 1:47Speaker 5: Thankful for them?
- 1:48Speaker 2: I'm thankful for him.
- 1:49Speaker 5: Absolutely, I'm so grateful.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Okay, how about we all go around and we say
- 1:56Speaker 3: our names.
- 1:59Speaker 5: That's a good idea, good right idea.
- 2:01Speaker 6: I'm Barbara Missionhan and I am so excited to be
- 2:06Speaker 6: here with you all today.
- 2:07Speaker 5: I did a musical uh.
- 2:10Speaker 6: I did a musical safety flight instruction video for Delta
- 2:14Speaker 6: back in the nineties, and ever since then, I've been
- 2:18Speaker 6: doing how to ikea.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Furniture setup videos.
- 2:23Speaker 6: I love working with those guys, and I love my
- 2:26Speaker 6: family on set.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Barbara, I absolutely fucking love your energy.
- 2:30Speaker 5: Thank you, I love you.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I love it. It's so exciting to see you. When
- 2:34Speaker 2: I loved your video in the nineties, you were the
- 2:35Speaker 2: first video to feature the fact that smoking is illegal.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Do you guys remember that? That was a crazy turning
- 2:43Speaker 2: stone and that was a groundbreaking music video. Is incredible, Thank.
- 2:47Speaker 5: You so much.
- 2:48Speaker 6: It's the only flight instruction video to be nominated for
- 2:52Speaker 6: a MTV Music.
- 2:54Speaker 2: Award absolutely for best kiss.
- 3:01Speaker 5: Who is the strapping man next to me?
- 3:04Speaker 4: Well?
- 3:05Speaker 5: Hello, my name is christ du Bois.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I am a flight safety video instructor director. Well, yes,
- 3:12Speaker 3: that's the other thing is that I am an instructor
- 3:16Speaker 3: as well.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Wow.
- 3:17Speaker 3: So I worked on the flight attendant side for many,
- 3:21Speaker 3: many years before I became a film director. So I
- 3:26Speaker 3: am flying first airplane first, aeroplane first, and then the
- 3:31Speaker 3: directing comes a second.
- 3:33Speaker 5: Love that because usually it's storyteller first.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Normally, yes, normally you get into this industry by doing
- 3:41Speaker 3: lots of what we call industrial videos, like we do
- 3:46Speaker 3: these four internal use in companies or a manufacturing sort
- 3:52Speaker 3: of setting. But this way, I started with the love
- 3:56Speaker 3: of planes. I love when things go up into the
- 3:59Speaker 3: sky and then they calmed right back down.
- 4:02Speaker 5: Isn't it magic?
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's so magical. It's magic. It's magic on earth or
- 4:06Speaker 2: in the sky. I love it. How do you say creich?
- 4:12Speaker 3: It's so crech like crutch with an eye like crech
- 4:17Speaker 3: like clutch with an eye.
- 4:18Speaker 5: Oh stop, stop, stop, it's creich.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Thank you. My name is Donald Keene. I am the
- 4:27Speaker 2: director of Ambitious Airlines UH two thousand's safety video. It
- 4:34Speaker 2: was a scared straight safety video. It was a little scary.
- 4:37Speaker 2: It was taken off the air, and by air, I
- 4:41Speaker 2: mean taken off being played in the air. And then
- 4:45Speaker 2: the and the in ambitious airlines did shut down because
- 4:47Speaker 2: they were all about kind of they were like the
- 4:49Speaker 2: Ripley's believe it or not, of the sky. They were
- 4:51Speaker 2: doing crazy things that we're trying, really wild stuff. And
- 4:54Speaker 2: we took risks and we got you know, yeah, we
- 4:58Speaker 2: flew a little too close to the sun. As a joke,
- 5:02Speaker 2: I've said every day for thirty years, you know what
- 5:04Speaker 2: I mean.
- 5:04Speaker 5: That's incredible.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so it was fun. It was We basically shot
- 5:09Speaker 2: a horror movie as a flight safety video and it
- 5:11Speaker 2: was frightening. People would walk out if they could, but
- 5:15Speaker 2: they got it.
- 5:16Speaker 5: How many views does it have on YouTube now?
- 5:18Speaker 2: I think it's up to fifteen million, that's absolutely I
- 5:22Speaker 2: wish I was seeing that money. I really wish, because
- 5:24Speaker 2: I see ads before the ads, so the money's going somewhere.
- 5:27Speaker 2: It's not going to me though, it's not going to me.
- 5:30Speaker 5: I now I work.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I make a lot of videos for poison control and
- 5:36Speaker 2: I make videos a lot of videos for different metro
- 5:39Speaker 2: systems about what to do if you find a dead
- 5:41Speaker 2: body on the tracks.
- 5:45Speaker 3: So are those being watched by the general public, nor
- 5:49Speaker 3: is this more for internal deeds exactly.
- 5:51Speaker 2: So in the industry, we call those industrials.
- 5:55Speaker 5: Oh, how silly.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Yeah, these glasses of minding their own we call those industrials.
- 6:00Speaker 2: And industrials are for employees people, you know, so a
- 6:03Speaker 2: lot of railroad workers and a lot of people that
- 6:05Speaker 2: work at poison control and people that work with poison. Uh.
- 6:09Speaker 2: They to see those, and they're being seen by millions
- 6:11Speaker 2: of people, honestly, but you know, not necessarily other people
- 6:16Speaker 2: in the world. And I don't need you know, I
- 6:18Speaker 2: just need an audience. It doesn't matter who it's for.
- 6:20Speaker 2: I've always said that I used to do little performances
- 6:22Speaker 2: for my dog when I was a kid, you know
- 6:24Speaker 2: what I mean. I was that kind of guy.
- 6:28Speaker 4: Hello, Hi, Hi.
- 6:30Speaker 7: My name is Asher, Asher Star, and I am a
- 6:35Speaker 7: music video director, but I'm also a big I've they've
- 6:40Speaker 7: hired me for a couple of flight safety videos.
- 6:42Speaker 2: Yeah, Asher, you are adorable so much.
- 6:46Speaker 5: I wish I could put you in my little suit pox.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 6:51Speaker 4: I'm a thirty four year old man. Oh I'm not
- 6:54Speaker 4: that It's just you know, I have a higher voice.
- 6:55Speaker 5: So but it's also just adorable because that bow tie
- 6:58Speaker 5: is huge. Agent have nothing to do with it.
- 7:01Speaker 3: It's the proportions with which your body is to the
- 7:04Speaker 3: clothing that you're wearing.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Absolutely, And what's the height? Four to three short?
- 7:09Speaker 7: I'm five tens Okay, just look at wear big clothes,
- 7:12Speaker 7: look like a doll.
- 7:13Speaker 5: And is that bow tie four three?
- 7:15Speaker 4: It's a big bow tie. It's in style. It's howtyle do.
- 7:18Speaker 5: You wait more or less than a safety pitch?
- 7:21Speaker 7: I weigh a lot more than a safety pan. I'm
- 7:23Speaker 7: one thirty. I'm you know, five ten, one thirty. It's
- 7:26Speaker 7: on the skinnier side for sure.
- 7:28Speaker 2: I just want to I want to take you from
- 7:29Speaker 2: a dish at the front of a restaurant and use
- 7:31Speaker 2: you as a mint.
- 7:32Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, I want to put you on a
- 7:34Speaker 6: CHARCOTERI board next to a small pickle.
- 7:36Speaker 4: Okay, okay.
- 7:37Speaker 7: I'm actually a very prestigious art house director. I do
- 7:40Speaker 7: a lot of films and I do a lot of
- 7:42Speaker 7: cool music videos. And so you know the cuteness of
- 7:46Speaker 7: my voice and how I wear big clothing that don't
- 7:49Speaker 7: fit me well, isn't what I'm made of Okay.
- 7:51Speaker 2: No, it isn't what you made of?
- 7:52Speaker 4: Is it?
- 7:53Speaker 3: Is?
- 7:53Speaker 4: It? Is it?
- 7:55Speaker 5: You look like you are maked of lily pads and dreams. Yeah,
- 7:58Speaker 5: oh that's adorable. Life safety video. Did you draft?
- 8:02Speaker 4: I've done a lot of the big ones. I've done
- 8:04Speaker 4: American Airlines, Huge Booking, Big Virgin Atlantic.
- 8:08Speaker 7: Okay, I've done Apple's new Uh, they're about to release
- 8:11Speaker 7: a airline.
- 8:12Speaker 4: Oh, eplane, iplane?
- 8:14Speaker 6: Did you do Kim Air Kim Kardashian Air.
- 8:18Speaker 7: Yes, that one shot of us pulling out slowly as
- 8:20Speaker 7: she reveals that her whole family is sitting in a plane,
- 8:23Speaker 7: kind of stoically.
- 8:24Speaker 2: You know, it's a shame. I heard about Kim Air.
- 8:27Speaker 2: They they made really extra wide seats and then they
- 8:30Speaker 2: took him out.
- 8:32Speaker 5: Well, you know, the whole planes made. Well, they have
- 8:35Speaker 5: to follow the industry trend. What's popular.
- 8:40Speaker 4: Yes, it was. We had to reshoot.
- 8:42Speaker 7: We had to do a bunch of reshoots because these
- 8:43Speaker 7: chairs were ginormous, which is great.
- 8:46Speaker 2: And then they made them.
- 8:50Speaker 7: Like that.
- 8:51Speaker 3: You could do that because you think something like that
- 8:53Speaker 3: would be a more permanent thing.
- 8:56Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Clim is amazing, She's great to work with. Kim Air
- 8:59Speaker 4: is coming.
- 9:00Speaker 7: It's a luxury branded airline, and the commercials are fantastic,
- 9:03Speaker 7: and the safety videos are more fantastic.
- 9:05Speaker 4: I would say, well.
- 9:07Speaker 2: So let's talk about it. I mean, let's talk about
- 9:09Speaker 2: what it's like to work in the flight safety industry.
- 9:13Speaker 2: We all have very important corner stoned flight safety videos,
- 9:16Speaker 2: and we are a community. I mean, we all watch
- 9:18Speaker 2: each other's. We all know what's going on. It is,
- 9:20Speaker 2: We're very up to date on what's going on. I mean,
- 9:22Speaker 2: how do you get into it? How did you guys
- 9:24Speaker 2: get into this?
- 9:24Speaker 4: Well, I'll say, I have to give it up to you.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Oh, Donald, I have to.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Give it up to you. Donald.
- 9:31Speaker 7: I loved your video so much. I thought it was
- 9:33Speaker 7: so cutting edge for shut the fuck up. I'm not
- 9:35Speaker 7: going to I'm not going to take the praise, take
- 9:38Speaker 7: the praise. It opened up a door for me, and
- 9:41Speaker 7: I was working with a lot of music videos. I
- 9:43Speaker 7: was doing a lot of avant garde stuff. I took
- 9:45Speaker 7: a flight from New Mexico, Albuquerque to New York. When
- 9:50Speaker 7: the plane started, I thought we were going down because
- 9:52Speaker 7: of your video.
- 9:53Speaker 4: Where I thought this is art. It was amazing.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you so much. I mean, it was really fun.
- 9:59Speaker 2: I never meant to be in the industry. I didn't
- 10:00Speaker 2: grow up wanting to make plane videos, you know what
- 10:03Speaker 2: I mean. I don't think anybody did anybody here want to.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Do that what I did a little bit. But I
- 10:09Speaker 3: understand where that comes from. Sure, No, I just love
- 10:15Speaker 3: I love so much the rules of the plane. For me,
- 10:19Speaker 3: the show is the video, and then what happens after that,
- 10:23Speaker 3: which is the flight, is the encore.
- 10:27Speaker 5: So incredible analogy.
- 10:29Speaker 3: I love that thinking, because why do we go onto
- 10:32Speaker 3: a plane. We go onto a plane to be explained
- 10:36Speaker 3: the rules.
- 10:37Speaker 5: No, I get on a plane to go somewhere.
- 10:39Speaker 2: Else exactly, I go on a plane.
- 10:41Speaker 6: Yeah, bitch, wow, wow, Prason, I didn't call you am
- 10:50Speaker 6: a bit.
- 10:51Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 10:53Speaker 5: What a missip happening?
- 10:55Speaker 4: What a comedy ror? Whoa wow? Wow?
- 10:58Speaker 3: A lot is going on in the listen. This is
- 11:01Speaker 3: just a difference of opinion, I believe. Look, I what
- 11:05Speaker 3: I value. I love being feeling like I am in
- 11:13Speaker 3: good hands. And that is what an artful flight safety
- 11:17Speaker 3: video does is tell someone that they are in good hands,
- 11:21Speaker 3: that this is actually not scary, that we are up
- 11:25Speaker 3: in the sky and we're gonna get back down in
- 11:27Speaker 3: a very safe way. My videos have a very distinct style.
- 11:32Speaker 3: I have been praised for how thoroughly I explain the rules.
- 11:38Speaker 3: So most flight safety videos are about thirty seconds to
- 11:43Speaker 3: forty five seconds long. Mine are about an hour.
- 11:48Speaker 6: So now what if I'm going from LA to Nevada, Well,
- 11:53Speaker 6: you would sit in the lax tarmac and you would
- 11:58Speaker 6: have a wonderful experience where you are whisked away to
- 12:02Speaker 6: a world of explanation, of magic, of creativity, and then
- 12:09Speaker 6: you get on.
- 12:10Speaker 3: The plane and thirteen minutes later you are in Las Vegas.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I heard that all the airlines that show yours
- 12:17Speaker 2: your your flight time is bumped up.
- 12:20Speaker 4: It is.
- 12:20Speaker 2: That's why it's cheaper, because it's longer.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Yes, and many people don't know that, right. They get
- 12:26Speaker 3: on a plane and it is proportional to the trip
- 12:28Speaker 3: you're taking. Right, So if you're flying LA to Vegas,
- 12:32Speaker 3: you add an hour. But if you're going onto a
- 12:35Speaker 3: longer flight with more risks, if you are flying LA
- 12:38Speaker 3: to London, you add three hours.
- 12:40Speaker 5: Right, because the film is three hours.
- 12:43Speaker 3: There are more risks when you go over the Atlantic Ocean,
- 12:46Speaker 3: so there's more we have to cover. And that also
- 12:48Speaker 3: means that our pilots have to go through more character
- 12:52Speaker 3: arcs and more people, and they meet more characters and
- 12:55Speaker 3: have more experiences along the way.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Where are you from?
- 13:03Speaker 3: What does everybody's favorite flight rule?
- 13:07Speaker 4: Oh?
- 13:07Speaker 2: I love to talk about this because there's so many
- 13:09Speaker 2: different ways, there's so many rules. We all know the rules.
- 13:11Speaker 2: We call them the Bible, right, we know the Bible.
- 13:14Speaker 2: We know what the deal is. Yeah, everyone, I can
- 13:17Speaker 2: tell I could probably guess everyone's favorite, but I want
- 13:20Speaker 2: to hear you say it, because everyone favors a certain
- 13:22Speaker 2: rule more.
- 13:24Speaker 6: Oh right, Mine has got to be you must put
- 13:29Speaker 6: your mask, your oxygen mask on first before you help another.
- 13:33Speaker 4: Yes.
- 13:33Speaker 5: That I love so much.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Because it's the direct opposite of the Bible. It is
- 13:39Speaker 6: serve yourself first, then other seconds.
- 13:42Speaker 2: And that resonates with you, Barbara, because you're selfish.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Yes, Because.
- 13:47Speaker 6: Yes, I'm a selfish woman, and I think a woman
- 13:50Speaker 6: in Hollywood is only successful if she's self Hell.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yes, And I love to hear that energy. That's great.
- 13:57Speaker 5: I do love to hear that energy.
- 14:00Speaker 6: I mean, you just gotta put yourself first, guys. I
- 14:03Speaker 6: mean I've been telling my kids, Sorry, I'm not gonna
- 14:07Speaker 6: pay for your student loans because I'm putting myself first,
- 14:12Speaker 6: all right, I mean, come on now, but I will
- 14:15Speaker 6: tell you I I I miss I really miss dialogue
- 14:20Speaker 6: because in my videos we don't have any dialogue.
- 14:22Speaker 5: It's when I work.
- 14:23Speaker 6: I have a huge residency with Ikea and we.
- 14:28Speaker 7: It's just like they.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Think Got with DJ has a residency at maybe Britney
- 14:38Speaker 6: Spears in Vegas.
- 14:41Speaker 5: I am their director.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Oh fabulous, I love that.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Yeah, so I do miss sound.
- 14:46Speaker 6: I'm miss working with sounds because all of IKEA's videos
- 14:49Speaker 6: it's too uh two models, one pushing in something, the
- 14:53Speaker 6: other and then we have an illustrator who's working, who
- 14:56Speaker 6: then draws the models moving and it's a lot of
- 14:59Speaker 6: slow mo shot. But I have to say my favorite
- 15:02Speaker 6: flight safety rule is fix yours first.
- 15:04Speaker 5: And then the others.
- 15:05Speaker 7: The instructional videos are just the instructions in a video form.
- 15:09Speaker 7: They don't really it's not it's not physical. It's just
- 15:12Speaker 7: the drawings.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Yes, it's the drawings come to life.
- 15:15Speaker 6: So because they were having trouble, like if you're if
- 15:17Speaker 6: you're putting together a dresser and you need to move
- 15:21Speaker 6: the you need to move the bolt to the right
- 15:26Speaker 6: instead of using arrows, we found that it's more successful
- 15:28Speaker 6: to get a video of someone doing that, or get
- 15:32Speaker 6: somebody else helping the person put the drawer in if
- 15:34Speaker 6: it's a two man job. So Ikea has been involved evolving.
- 15:40Speaker 6: It's a part of their app now because Ikea has
- 15:42Speaker 6: an app.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Everything has an app nowadays.
- 15:45Speaker 6: It absolutely bonkers. I mean, the American Airlines app blew
- 15:48Speaker 6: us all out of the water.
- 15:50Speaker 5: We should talk about that. That app is incredible.
- 15:53Speaker 2: It's amazing, and we're not competing with it per se.
- 15:56Speaker 2: But I feel jealous sometimes everything relating to an airline.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I fig sometimes I feel I was peting with the snacks.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Everyone's favorite part of the videos. Yeah we heard yours. Yours?
- 16:06Speaker 2: Yours is the mask.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Put yours on before another yours?
- 16:09Speaker 2: Little ash you're sweet boy.
- 16:11Speaker 4: I'm not that sweet.
- 16:12Speaker 7: I'm not a little boy. I'm five ten. That's very average.
- 16:15Speaker 7: I'm just wearing large in style clothing.
- 16:17Speaker 2: I just feel like you're in a snow globe. When
- 16:19Speaker 2: I look at you, I know it's a little doll.
- 16:21Speaker 5: I want to shake you up.
- 16:23Speaker 6: I look at both of your pupils and they're both
- 16:25Speaker 6: little strawberry shortcakes.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Yes, well, thank you all. Take it as a compliment.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Okay, what's your favorite part.
- 16:31Speaker 7: My favorite part is the life jacket under the seat.
- 16:35Speaker 7: I find it's almost a mystery box, a black box,
- 16:38Speaker 7: if you will. The audience doesn't know what's in there.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yes, it's very Atlice in Wonderland.
- 16:44Speaker 7: And I love when we do those videos. I love
- 16:47Speaker 7: making sure the audience feels like there's something in there.
- 16:51Speaker 7: What is it dangerous?
- 16:52Speaker 4: Is it safety? You never know? I saw yours.
- 16:55Speaker 2: You add a heart beat, a slow zoom and a
- 16:57Speaker 2: heartbeat in weathery're.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Crying in the back, Yes, but just a couple of
- 17:01Speaker 4: light stuff. Thank you. You know what I love.
- 17:03Speaker 2: I love that big ramp, the big floating floating ramp,
- 17:07Speaker 2: the slide. I mean, come on, is that fun or what?
- 17:11Speaker 5: It's full of whimsy.
- 17:12Speaker 2: It's very exciting.
- 17:13Speaker 6: It was fun for all of our videos. Your video
- 17:16Speaker 6: it was not fun.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Mine was verified.
- 17:18Speaker 2: It didn't effect where it looked endless. And then at
- 17:20Speaker 2: the bottom of it there was a big sea monster
- 17:23Speaker 2: because that's supposed to be used in some sort of
- 17:26Speaker 2: seed landing.
- 17:27Speaker 4: So it was interesting. It was almost like you've been
- 17:30Speaker 4: safe for now.
- 17:31Speaker 2: That's what I think, exactly exactly. I mean, look, it's scary.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Flying is scary, and we wanted to make sure people
- 17:37Speaker 2: knew that it was important for me. And you know,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I got this idea. I was at this club in
- 17:41Speaker 2: the Lower East Side. I was on asseid, I was
- 17:43Speaker 2: losing my mind. And I walked down to the basement
- 17:46Speaker 2: of a club and I said, what if this never ended?
- 17:49Speaker 2: And I said, oh my god. And they gave me
- 17:50Speaker 2: an idea. Oh my god, what if I was in
- 17:52Speaker 2: an airplane and this is this is my escape? You know,
- 17:55Speaker 2: like there is no escape? And I and I and
- 17:57Speaker 2: I sobered up and I woke up, and I said,
- 17:59Speaker 2: all the fear left me with the idea stayed there.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Like my brain was a sketchbook and I had one
- 18:03Speaker 2: note in it.
- 18:04Speaker 6: You are so fascinating to me because I'm in a
- 18:07Speaker 6: safety video.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Fear has no place, sure, And I'm so inspired.
- 18:13Speaker 6: By the fact that you use what we are directly
- 18:16Speaker 6: working against.
- 18:18Speaker 5: And can you speak to.
- 18:20Speaker 6: How you think that's productive and how you think that's helpful.
- 18:23Speaker 2: Yeah, we build safety videos because of fear. Right, we
- 18:26Speaker 2: build safety videos to cause an ease of fear. Right,
- 18:29Speaker 2: don't be scared. This is this is the known. You know,
- 18:32Speaker 2: we're scared of the unknown, and so this is the
- 18:34Speaker 2: known and so that's what we're doing here. But the
- 18:35Speaker 2: thing is is that I don't ever want anyone to
- 18:39Speaker 2: think that they know enough. I don't even to get cocky.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I don't want anyone to zone out of the video
- 18:42Speaker 2: because if you zone it on a video, then what's
- 18:44Speaker 2: the point of having the video. And I think we've
- 18:45Speaker 2: all been on a flight, a Southwest flight, an American flight,
- 18:49Speaker 2: where those poor stupid flight attendants are standing center and
- 18:52Speaker 2: they're performing, but they're not giving anything their life.
- 18:55Speaker 3: Yes, they talk about this, they never give it anything.
- 18:59Speaker 2: Why do you think the videos had to start is
- 19:01Speaker 2: because these people have no presence.
- 19:02Speaker 3: It's because we are not auditioning flight attendants anymore.
- 19:06Speaker 6: No, And that's what happened once they remember that that
- 19:10Speaker 6: time in the eighties when they had actors do that job.
- 19:13Speaker 6: I mean, the performances were stellar, but my god, these
- 19:16Speaker 6: flight attendants were booking out and we're leaving for an audition.
- 19:20Speaker 2: And the drinks they were getting were too strong, too.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Strong, and those peanut bags were empty.
- 19:25Speaker 2: They were empty. They were snacking on peanuts because they
- 19:27Speaker 2: were so.
- 19:27Speaker 5: Stressed that broke bitches were eating.
- 19:29Speaker 2: They were memorizing lines for their terms of endearment, audition
- 19:31Speaker 2: or whatever the fuck, and so.
- 19:33Speaker 3: We had to go to non actors. And that's when
- 19:36Speaker 3: the whole thing fell apart, because not only are you
- 19:39Speaker 3: competing with the video and people's air pods, they're listening
- 19:43Speaker 3: to another podcast while they're watching the flights against. Mark
- 19:49Speaker 3: Marron is my enemy.
- 19:51Speaker 4: He is my enemy. He is.
- 19:57Speaker 3: Mark Marren is the devil because he creates a podcast
- 20:01Speaker 3: that is so interesting. The interviews are so candid that
- 20:07Speaker 3: people are not watching the flight safety videos. They are
- 20:10Speaker 3: simply listening to him. Say yes and tell me more
- 20:14Speaker 3: about that. That's all the kids are doing now. If
- 20:17Speaker 3: I ever meet him in real life, I will tell
- 20:19Speaker 3: him this to his face.
- 20:21Speaker 4: Where are you from?
- 20:24Speaker 3: I want to know from everybody what airlines do you
- 20:27Speaker 3: work for? I know you work for Kim Kardashian, I.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Work for I work for a lot of airlines.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Yes, said you did American too. That's a huge book
- 20:37Speaker 5: anc Yes.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I do, big B thank you, thank you.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 7: They saw a lot of my music videos. I was
- 20:43Speaker 7: a surfer filmer. I used to film surfers and they
- 20:47Speaker 7: saw my surf footage, so they hired me. That's why
- 20:50Speaker 7: a lot of my plane videos have waves in them like.
- 20:53Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, this a surfer is going down the
- 20:56Speaker 4: aisle of this plane putting a seatbelt on.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Horrible.
- 21:00Speaker 4: What it's not adorable.
- 21:01Speaker 2: What would you surf? What would you surf on the
- 21:06Speaker 2: bottom of a canna beans?
- 21:08Speaker 7: That's impossible. Cut the bottom of a cannob beans.
- 21:12Speaker 6: There's nothing than a canna pentel beans, the bottom of
- 21:16Speaker 6: the cans.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 21:21Speaker 3: Well, I work for air Flugan.
- 21:25Speaker 5: Do you live in Flugen?
- 21:28Speaker 3: So my airline is very it's very compassionate and they
- 21:33Speaker 3: let me tell the stories I.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Want to tell I've heard.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Is great to work with.
- 21:37Speaker 3: They're great because they have absolutely no allegiance to the
- 21:43Speaker 3: times which people want to travel, right. They have no
- 21:48Speaker 3: sense of urgency or speed. When you get into an
- 21:52Speaker 3: air Flugan flight, you don't care where you're going. It
- 21:55Speaker 3: is the number one airline for people who don't have
- 21:59Speaker 3: anywhere to be, for people who do not have a
- 22:03Speaker 3: business conference to go to.
- 22:05Speaker 5: And that is so American.
- 22:06Speaker 4: I love it.
- 22:07Speaker 7: When you see air Flugen in the airport, it just
- 22:09Speaker 7: says flight departing three point fifteen arriving question mark question mark.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Question is it is the number one airline with the
- 22:17Speaker 2: most on Wii. I mean everyone going on that, they're
- 22:20Speaker 2: all looking for themselves. It's all artists, it's all writers.
- 22:23Speaker 2: I mean, it's really hard to sit on that air
- 22:24Speaker 2: flugen a terminal because everyone's on their freaking laptops and
- 22:28Speaker 2: all the plugs are full because they're all charging. I mean,
- 22:31Speaker 2: it's like a Starbucks on the sky.
- 22:33Speaker 6: I think I heard it referred to as the e
- 22:35Speaker 6: prey love airlines where you get on their find yourself,
- 22:39Speaker 6: not find your destination.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Exactly what you do.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Many people find love. We are a greater we have
- 22:46Speaker 3: a higher proportion of matches than E Harmony itself. Wow,
- 22:52Speaker 3: Because you know, they watch my movie, they watch my
- 22:55Speaker 3: flight safety video, they see the captain fall in love,
- 22:58Speaker 3: they see two people fighting over who should be in
- 23:02Speaker 3: the emergency exit chair for hours before they do it themselves.
- 23:08Speaker 3: So there is a sense of we've all been in
- 23:11Speaker 3: this together.
- 23:12Speaker 5: Absolutely incredible.
- 23:14Speaker 7: It makes sense that your videos are so long because
- 23:16Speaker 7: nobody has anywhere to go. They're happy to watch a video.
- 23:20Speaker 3: It's wonderful, I am. And because I've worked with other
- 23:24Speaker 3: airlines and there's been some problems.
- 23:26Speaker 5: Oh are you kidding?
- 23:27Speaker 6: I think allegian they're all full of sexual harassers.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Woow, heavy, heavyarm ill saying love.
- 23:36Speaker 5: Me way, I'm being selfish tonight.
- 23:40Speaker 4: I love that.
- 23:41Speaker 3: I love that accuse somewhat of sexual harassment.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Treat yourself.
- 23:49Speaker 6: It's a me day, which means, oh no, for you,
- 23:52Speaker 6: I'm making big old claims.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I love that.
- 23:55Speaker 7: That gives me into a really interesting question I have
- 23:58Speaker 7: for you guys. When you get notes, what do you
- 24:02Speaker 7: guys do with your notes? Because you know, we don't
- 24:05Speaker 7: have a lot of the freedom, the artistic freedom we
- 24:09Speaker 7: have to deal with giant online corporations and also the
- 24:13Speaker 7: flight and safety offices of the United States of America.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Right, we have a different overhead. Right, And let's be
- 24:21Speaker 2: honest too, let's talk about our budgets. I mean, I
- 24:22Speaker 2: mean I I don't know what you guys are spending
- 24:25Speaker 2: on them, but for me, I gotta spend five ten
- 24:28Speaker 2: thousand dollars tops on these. These are these are these
- 24:31Speaker 2: are very very very shoe string budgets because they're I've
- 24:35Speaker 2: seen this movies, but we see those movies were the
- 24:37Speaker 2: artists where the creators or the dreamers of dreams. So
- 24:38Speaker 2: we have to do this kind of stuff. Of course
- 24:41Speaker 2: it's difficult because I like to say that if it's
- 24:45Speaker 2: if it looks good, we're doing it, you know, and
- 24:47Speaker 2: that that causes me to go out of pocket for
- 24:49Speaker 2: a lot of things. I end up spending twenty thirty
- 24:51Speaker 2: thousand dollars in my own money, Oh my god, because
- 24:54Speaker 2: I care about that.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Well.
- 24:55Speaker 7: You get your visuals though, right I don't, not yet,
- 24:59Speaker 7: I'm gonna.
- 24:59Speaker 2: I'm I literally I have. I have figured out a
- 25:02Speaker 2: password that was used on the YouTube account that posted
- 25:05Speaker 2: this fight safety video, and I got really close and
- 25:09Speaker 2: then there was two factor of authentication. I got the
- 25:11Speaker 2: last four digits of a number and I've been looking
- 25:13Speaker 2: and I'm gonna find the person who has that phone
- 25:15Speaker 2: number because I need to because they owe me money.
- 25:19Speaker 2: I know they're making money off of this YouTube.
- 25:21Speaker 6: I mean, you know, the funniest YouTube video. I mean,
- 25:24Speaker 6: it's the funniest one that and a going down the
- 25:26Speaker 6: slip and slot.
- 25:27Speaker 2: And I know it's funny, and I know it was
- 25:29Speaker 2: scary in the time that I'm I'm not. I'm not
- 25:31Speaker 2: a fool. I know that it's funny.
- 25:32Speaker 4: It's campy.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I love camp. Camp is fun. You know. I made
- 25:35Speaker 2: a lot of training videos for burger King as well
- 25:37Speaker 2: that people love. There was a song that we used
- 25:40Speaker 2: about how to address a burger and and people love
- 25:45Speaker 2: it nowadays still and they still watch it all again.
- 25:49Speaker 2: You gotta get the bun, you gotta put it on
- 25:53Speaker 2: the counter, and get the meat, and get the lenis
- 25:57Speaker 2: and get the onion and get that sense bigger king
- 26:02Speaker 2: Mia And that's for you.
- 26:04Speaker 5: Oh, I get so poppy at the end.
- 26:06Speaker 4: I just love it.
- 26:07Speaker 3: My favorite moment of nineteen ninety eight.
- 26:10Speaker 5: They do that's incredible.
- 26:13Speaker 2: In the industry, we all knew it, you know, of
- 26:15Speaker 2: course industry of industrials, but otherwise, and now they know
- 26:17Speaker 2: it on YouTube and I'm and that's a different So
- 26:20Speaker 2: the phone number for the airline video is two one
- 26:24Speaker 2: three four, and then the phone number for the whoever
- 26:28Speaker 2: posted the cheeseburger one is six five eight four. So
- 26:32Speaker 2: if you know the four at the end, yes, that's
- 26:35Speaker 2: one thing. And I've and I'm checked to see if
- 26:37Speaker 2: that's related.
- 26:38Speaker 5: You're a regular.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Sure, I try, Thank you. I try. I'm not getting anywhere,
- 26:44Speaker 2: but I try.
- 26:44Speaker 4: Oh.
- 26:45Speaker 6: I mean to answer your question, Asher, it's I directed
- 26:49Speaker 6: one episode of Gilmore Girls.
- 26:52Speaker 5: And that was the highlight of my career.
- 26:56Speaker 6: And that is when I think I realized, oh real,
- 27:01Speaker 6: I'm so sorry.
- 27:01Speaker 5: Not real.
- 27:02Speaker 2: Other directors, yes, thank you.
- 27:05Speaker 5: Other directors get so much wiggle room.
- 27:09Speaker 6: And the biggest wall I kept hitting in terms of
- 27:11Speaker 6: getting notes is that we cannot change the dialogue.
- 27:15Speaker 5: We have literal lives dependent on the dialogue.
- 27:20Speaker 6: I was working with an actor when we had the
- 27:22Speaker 6: line about the seat belt double click. It was like
- 27:26Speaker 6: something about like double click to undo, click to do,
- 27:29Speaker 6: and he couldn't get it in his mouth.
- 27:31Speaker 7: Well, you're also notorious for letting improv fly exactly exactly.
- 27:36Speaker 6: And this poor guy, I think his name was Paul
- 27:38Speaker 6: Yan Paulian couldn't get that line in his mouth.
- 27:42Speaker 5: And I said, Paul, just say whatever feels good. What
- 27:44Speaker 5: did he end up saying, put the seatbelt under your leg?
- 27:49Speaker 2: Interesting, that's wrong.
- 27:51Speaker 5: And that's what happened. Yes, And then we had to
- 27:54Speaker 5: go back. We had to do reshoots.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Thank god we did them. I'm thankful for the lives
- 27:57Speaker 6: that have been saved. When we did that reshoot. We
- 28:00Speaker 6: had three hundred dollars for that reshoot.
- 28:03Speaker 2: That's a lot of money in this industry. That's a
- 28:06Speaker 2: lot of money.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Of money's a lot of money.
- 28:09Speaker 6: So I'm that is a great question, and I think
- 28:12Speaker 6: we all live by these notes are important because lives
- 28:15Speaker 6: are at stay.
- 28:16Speaker 5: It's true.
- 28:17Speaker 3: It's true. Our movies do kill people or keep them alive. Absolutely,
- 28:24Speaker 3: and I believe that my videos also keep people alive
- 28:27Speaker 3: in the soul, you know, because if a person is
- 28:32Speaker 3: crashing in the ocean and they know how to put
- 28:34Speaker 3: on a safety vest sure, Okay, so now you have
- 28:39Speaker 3: the safety vest on. Does that mean you're living? Or
- 28:43Speaker 3: are you just alive? Holy moly, are you actually experiencing
- 28:49Speaker 3: things and challenging yourself as you're in the ocean. Are
- 28:53Speaker 3: you falling in love? Or are you just somebody with
- 28:56Speaker 3: a heartbeat?
- 28:57Speaker 2: Chice? You just blew my fucking brain.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Oh, oh my god. You should be a pastor.
- 29:03Speaker 3: And I plan to what what?
- 29:07Speaker 4: Where?
- 29:07Speaker 5: Would you do it?
- 29:08Speaker 4: Where?
- 29:08Speaker 5: Like your hometown? Yes, I will do it in my hometown.
- 29:13Speaker 3: Have a wonderful church. So what I want to talk
- 29:16Speaker 3: about is how we can teach future directors. What would
- 29:24Speaker 3: you give? What advice would you give to other industrial directors?
- 29:30Speaker 5: That is so good.
- 29:30Speaker 6: If they're leaving this interview with anything, it should be
- 29:33Speaker 6: some advice for our industry.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Absolutely, well for me, I guess.
- 29:40Speaker 4: Just thinking out loud.
- 29:42Speaker 5: It's amazing.
- 29:43Speaker 3: You keep floating off of your chair the more you
- 29:46Speaker 3: think I don't know what you're talking about.
- 29:48Speaker 2: It's like I'm seeing a little speech bubble that goes
- 29:50Speaker 2: under you and you lift up in your own thoughts
- 29:52Speaker 2: like you're in some little dream land.
- 29:53Speaker 5: And it's absolutely incredible.
- 29:55Speaker 6: Right now as you're talking, it looks like each of
- 29:56Speaker 6: your eyelashes is honey bunches of oats.
- 29:58Speaker 4: That makes what serial? Is that a cute thing?
- 30:03Speaker 5: Every lash of every lash of a candle? It is cute,
- 30:08Speaker 5: and so is honey.
- 30:09Speaker 4: Don't very well respected our tour? Our tour?
- 30:12Speaker 5: You're so cute in our door?
- 30:15Speaker 2: Do you say ward or two?
- 30:17Speaker 5: Okay, I have to ask.
- 30:19Speaker 2: A question to you. Ask you because I want to
- 30:21Speaker 2: hear your advice, but I would love to get advice.
- 30:23Speaker 2: How do you command respect on a set? Because I
- 30:25Speaker 2: can imagine that that you're fighting over the sound of
- 30:27Speaker 2: an air conditioning.
- 30:28Speaker 7: No, I'm not, I'm not people really well, I do
- 30:31Speaker 7: have to have a megaphone that's attached to another megaphone, and.
- 30:35Speaker 4: I have a very very big, intimidating a d.
- 30:39Speaker 2: That's the ticket.
- 30:41Speaker 7: Oh, we his name was. His name is Bulldog and
- 30:44Speaker 7: he runs set. He will yell if you step out
- 30:48Speaker 7: of line. So I usually give the actors direction and
- 30:51Speaker 7: Bulldog really enforces it. But my, my, my advice to
- 30:57Speaker 7: young and aspiring director listen in, guy, lean close to
- 31:01Speaker 7: miss this, lean.
- 31:02Speaker 5: Close and cuddle up.
- 31:03Speaker 7: My voice is very loud, but if you could silence
- 31:07Speaker 7: your phones, that would be nice right now for me,
- 31:09Speaker 7: because I've heard them. My voice is very quiet.
- 31:13Speaker 2: And I bet it gets titty when there's when the
- 31:15Speaker 2: phones are too close to your voice, it.
- 31:17Speaker 4: Gets very titty. I get so many titties. Is that
- 31:19Speaker 4: what you said?
- 31:20Speaker 2: No titty like interfer it?
- 31:22Speaker 4: Well, I do get titties.
- 31:25Speaker 5: Your mouth says titty.
- 31:27Speaker 3: That's adorable.
- 31:28Speaker 5: Your mouth looks like it's it's hot.
- 31:30Speaker 4: It's hot, and it's grody.
- 31:32Speaker 2: I bet you're a sweet lover.
- 31:34Speaker 4: I'm I am.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I knew it.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Finally he agrees on something that.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Finally the little angel.
- 31:40Speaker 5: Okay, Asher, give us your freaking advice.
- 31:45Speaker 4: Bother, oh, bother, my, this always happened.
- 31:51Speaker 3: The frequency of honey, yes, honey, bunches of no.
- 31:56Speaker 7: I promise, I'm a very etchy director. Oh here we
- 32:00Speaker 7: go again.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Oh, gosh, he's quoting Disney characters as he's frustrated.
- 32:08Speaker 5: To a tiny pee? What would you? Would you be
- 32:11Speaker 5: able to sing it to?
- 32:12Speaker 4: Song?
- 32:14Speaker 5: Sing you is as.
- 32:16Speaker 4: Cute a questions.
- 32:20Speaker 2: You would you sing to a pe?
- 32:22Speaker 4: I love this question.
- 32:23Speaker 5: I actually don't want any advice from you as I
- 32:26Speaker 5: want you. I want to know if you would sing
- 32:27Speaker 5: to the p or the be.
- 32:31Speaker 4: In this situation. I have no idea, but I guess
- 32:34Speaker 4: so no ge oh my, oh golly, I don't know.
- 32:39Speaker 4: I guess that I would sing to the P. I
- 32:45Speaker 4: would want to.
- 32:47Speaker 7: I would love a second to talk about my art,
- 32:49Speaker 7: but I'm getting the signal.
- 32:51Speaker 4: We need to move home.
- 32:52Speaker 5: What's your advice, god zeus?
- 32:56Speaker 3: My advice would be to find the storytelling point in
- 33:00Speaker 3: into each instruction. What does each instruction telling? Because each
- 33:05Speaker 3: instruction within a flight safety video exists in a different genre.
- 33:10Speaker 3: You brought up putting someone else's mask on before you
- 33:13Speaker 3: put your own mask on. That is a children's movie.
- 33:17Speaker 3: That is a children's TV show, so that area must
- 33:20Speaker 3: be filmed in very bright colors with big mascots. On
- 33:25Speaker 3: the other hand, water landing, We're all probably going to die.
- 33:29Speaker 3: That is a horror film.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:32Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 33:32Speaker 3: So my advice to young directors don't be a flight
- 33:35Speaker 3: afraid to play with genre.
- 33:37Speaker 4: Wow, what's your favorite genre to play with?
- 33:39Speaker 3: My favorite genre to play with is the rom com.
- 33:43Speaker 5: Oh we all grew.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Up with rom coms for sure.
- 33:47Speaker 7: That's a girl, Yes, yes, where'd you grow up?
- 33:50Speaker 4: So?
- 33:51Speaker 3: What a rum com does for a flight safety video
- 33:54Speaker 3: is the part where you are where where where we're
- 33:59Speaker 3: we're talking about the role of the flight attendant and
- 34:03Speaker 3: how you can call them using the call button. Now
- 34:06Speaker 3: that is explained. I like to plant pay homage with
- 34:10Speaker 3: a forty five minute reenactment of the scene in Love
- 34:13Speaker 3: Actually where they're holding the cards above the heads.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Seven at forty five minute homage maybe five times as
- 34:21Speaker 2: long as the actual moment I would say, I would
- 34:24Speaker 2: say ten, maybe ten. I would say that to you.
- 34:26Speaker 4: That's probably a minute thirty tops that month.
- 34:29Speaker 5: Could you imagine that would be longer than your flight?
- 34:32Speaker 3: Yeah? I Actually, Love Actually did come after me a
- 34:36Speaker 3: little bit because they said I was ruining the legacy
- 34:41Speaker 3: of the film.
- 34:42Speaker 2: Gosh, you don't want to Love actually to come after
- 34:44Speaker 2: that's a lot of people. That's a home to fifteen.
- 34:49Speaker 6: Love actually came after my cousin for fraud. My god,
- 34:54Speaker 6: it was scary and he's still in legal hell.
- 34:57Speaker 3: It's crazy what that movie did because get to clarify,
- 35:00Speaker 3: the studio did.
- 35:01Speaker 4: Not come after me.
- 35:03Speaker 3: The General distribution company did not come after me. It
- 35:07Speaker 3: was the movie itself.
- 35:09Speaker 4: How many different storylines. It felt like it was just
- 35:11Speaker 4: an ip grab at that point.
- 35:13Speaker 7: Yeah, they just try to make that movie to grab
- 35:15Speaker 7: as many iyep's as they could.
- 35:17Speaker 5: They really did. It was really, really tough, incredible.
- 35:21Speaker 6: I think my advice to anyone doing flight safety videos
- 35:25Speaker 6: or industrial videos of any kind would be I want
- 35:29Speaker 6: you to strap up, get a cup of selfish tea,
- 35:32Speaker 6: and I want you to slurp, slurp so that tea,
- 35:35Speaker 6: and be the most selfish person you can in this industry. Now,
- 35:39Speaker 6: I want to correct myself earlier today I said to
- 35:42Speaker 6: be a woman in Hollywood you have to be selfish.
- 35:44Speaker 6: I think to be a human in Hollywood you have
- 35:48Speaker 6: to be selfish, and that means picking yourself at all
- 35:51Speaker 6: hours of the day.
- 35:53Speaker 3: Have I ever considered running for office?
- 35:56Speaker 4: Oh?
- 35:57Speaker 5: Never for you, but it might be as a joke,
- 36:02Speaker 5: so sweet if I got joke boats.
- 36:04Speaker 7: So I feel like you're talking a lot about selfishness
- 36:07Speaker 7: in a broad sense. What do you find selfish?
- 36:10Speaker 5: I say, put yourself first. Fuck yourself first. I love
- 36:14Speaker 5: that for you, Bob, I'm having trouble keeping.
- 36:20Speaker 6: A husband because I'm selfish in the bedroom. Okay, but
- 36:25Speaker 6: I just mean put yourself first. If Ikia wants you
- 36:29Speaker 6: to hurry it up because they just want to take
- 36:31Speaker 6: visuals of someone putting in a lazy boy chair and
- 36:35Speaker 6: putting the legs on it, you tell them fuck off.
- 36:38Speaker 5: Buddy. It's my moment.
- 36:40Speaker 2: I love that. I love that. If I had to
- 36:42Speaker 2: give you one piece of advice, I would say, look,
- 36:45Speaker 2: make it scary, make it funny, make it sad, make
- 36:48Speaker 2: it spooky, make it romantic, make it wonderful. But for
- 36:52Speaker 2: God's sakes, make it interesting.
- 36:58Speaker 7: That is.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Just so good. So what can I say?
- 37:03Speaker 2: What can I say? I try my hardest. I try.
- 37:06Speaker 2: We all have to try our hardest. But we have
- 37:07Speaker 2: to do something that makes us interesting. We have to
- 37:10Speaker 2: do something that spikes our interest, makes it get just going.
- 37:13Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know. Can I ask you what
- 37:15Speaker 4: you do?
- 37:15Speaker 2: Now?
- 37:16Speaker 4: What do I do? Now? Yeah?
- 37:18Speaker 2: I run this little bar. I run this little bar
- 37:20Speaker 2: in No Ho, North Hollywood. It's called Fuckies, and we
- 37:24Speaker 2: do a lot of fun little stuff in there, and
- 37:26Speaker 2: we have different theme nights and it's basically like a
- 37:29Speaker 2: high school theme night every night of the week. You know,
- 37:32Speaker 2: it's like a like you remember Pep Brows, Remember you
- 37:34Speaker 2: see it ready for Pep Browns. We had nerd Day,
- 37:37Speaker 2: we had Hawaiian Shirt Day, all that kind of stuff.
- 37:40Speaker 4: I love.
- 37:40Speaker 3: You're the last remaining carpeted bar in No Hope.
- 37:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I am this carpets and bars.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I love carpets, and I won't get rid of this carpet.
- 37:50Speaker 2: This carpet was actually bought by Jahagabor in nineteen seventy six.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Absolutely incredible.
- 37:56Speaker 2: It is amazing. And the stories carpet tells. Hardwood floorers
- 37:59Speaker 2: don't keep any stories. Time I was walking around, I
- 38:02Speaker 2: was walking around and I looked in and there was
- 38:04Speaker 2: something in the carpet. It was one of Ron Jeremy's
- 38:06Speaker 2: pubic hairs.
- 38:07Speaker 5: Oh my god, how did you know? It was absolutely incredible.
- 38:11Speaker 2: I can spot a puba care on any person, any
- 38:14Speaker 2: any single person. Show me pubic care. I can tell
- 38:16Speaker 2: you who.
- 38:16Speaker 5: Now that's a talent.
- 38:17Speaker 2: If I've ever heard that's the talent.
- 38:19Speaker 5: God I missed carpet in hospitals.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I miss carpet in hospitals. Carpet in hospitals. They just
- 38:24Speaker 2: made them so much warmer.
- 38:25Speaker 5: Another cold, cold, born and cold.
- 38:31Speaker 7: Okay, go ahead, Well I was gonna want I was
- 38:35Speaker 7: just wondering, do you guys have any other projects coming up?
- 38:40Speaker 4: Before? I love you guys, Uh, not that way. I
- 38:44Speaker 4: love you too.
- 38:44Speaker 5: Usher.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I want to just put you on one of my
- 38:46Speaker 2: little put you next to all my Hummel dolls in
- 38:48Speaker 2: my in my house.
- 38:49Speaker 6: I want to screw you into a lemon drop, and
- 38:51Speaker 6: then I want to take that lemon drop and throw
- 38:53Speaker 6: it on a cloud.
- 38:54Speaker 3: I want to put you in a bunch of a
- 38:56Speaker 3: what do you call it, Maritroshka dolls?
- 39:01Speaker 5: Yes, Russian, the Russian nesting dolls. And I tell you,
- 39:06Speaker 5: can you guess which one I want you to be?
- 39:09Speaker 7: What? Meat?
- 39:10Speaker 5: The tiniest one?
- 39:12Speaker 4: Oh ChEI licurs, guys. No, I'm a grown man, I
- 39:17Speaker 4: swear it.
- 39:18Speaker 2: What are you gonna do next?
- 39:19Speaker 5: Asher, oh little piece of poop?
- 39:22Speaker 4: Excuse me? That's not cool, that is not cool.
- 39:28Speaker 5: We're sorry, Asher, I'm not sorry.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I'm a bitch.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Well, I got a couple of music videos coming out.
- 39:36Speaker 4: I just filmed the music video with The Strokes.
- 39:38Speaker 2: And I think, speak up, little boy.
- 39:40Speaker 4: I'm trying to. I just think I'm losing my voice.
- 39:43Speaker 4: I've been too loud. I think I'm running. I'm running
- 39:49Speaker 4: out of my voice. I'm running out every day. I
- 39:52Speaker 4: only have twenty minutes of voice.
- 39:55Speaker 3: What you only have it is like a reserve in
- 39:59Speaker 3: your body.
- 40:00Speaker 2: How can you possibly direct?
- 40:01Speaker 5: How can you possibly direct?
- 40:03Speaker 4: For these Strokes?
- 40:05Speaker 7: I whisper in bulldogs ear and he gets it done.
- 40:08Speaker 2: I've got to meet him.
- 40:09Speaker 4: He's great.
- 40:11Speaker 5: But it sounds like fun to ride.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Be selfish queen, be selfish girl.
- 40:19Speaker 7: So yeah, I just directed. I'm using video for the
- 40:22Speaker 7: Strokes and the Strokes Airlines they're releasing a flight that
- 40:27Speaker 7: you can fly to their concerts.
- 40:29Speaker 4: Wow.
- 40:30Speaker 5: Good for them.
- 40:31Speaker 4: Good they're coming back. They're gonna have a comeback.
- 40:34Speaker 5: I swear incredible.
- 40:35Speaker 4: That is so nice.
- 40:36Speaker 3: I am working on a flight safety video for a boat.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I am venturing into boats, and so it's good to do.
- 40:46Speaker 4: They still take flight?
- 40:48Speaker 5: Uh no, the boat doesn't go into the air.
- 40:51Speaker 2: So is it a boat safety video?
- 40:52Speaker 4: Then maybe a float safety video.
- 40:55Speaker 3: I don't understand what that phrase would mean. So it's
- 40:58Speaker 3: a flight safety video. But it plays on a boat.
- 41:03Speaker 5: Are you working with that famous boat model actress?
- 41:06Speaker 4: Uh?
- 41:07Speaker 5: Yes, Gwyneth Paltrow.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Yes, I love her boat as a boat model actress.
- 41:12Speaker 2: She's so.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Yes, I am working with her. You clearly have heard
- 41:18Speaker 3: it through the Rumorville rumor mill. I r and he
- 41:27Speaker 3: comes back with lots of stories.
- 41:28Speaker 5: He's been there because he's a bitch.
- 41:30Speaker 2: Absolutely, I'll be a bench. I'll be a bitch again,
- 41:32Speaker 2: wasting away again in Rumorville. At least it's interesting, Okay,
- 41:37Speaker 2: make it interesting.
- 41:38Speaker 4: My fucking god, Okay, what are you doing? Oh my god?
- 41:45Speaker 6: I am actually moving to a little townhouse in a
- 41:49Speaker 6: Laguna beach.
- 41:50Speaker 5: Okay, house in beach. I will have a blast there.
- 42:04Speaker 5: That's your wonderful It's a big deal for me. I'm
- 42:10Speaker 5: pretty cool.
- 42:11Speaker 2: It's pretty cool to plug that you're gonna have a
- 42:12Speaker 2: blast in your townhouse.
- 42:14Speaker 4: That's my blug.
- 42:15Speaker 5: Also, I'll be doing a radio interview with Barbara Walters.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Is very much passed. Is it the hologram they're trying
- 42:26Speaker 4: to do?
- 42:27Speaker 5: Barbara wa I'm selfish and I'm deciding to do it.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Okay, okay, So what what what is next for you?
- 42:35Speaker 2: Well, it's the bar is really taking up my time.
- 42:38Speaker 2: But I would say the last thing that I'm working on,
- 42:40Speaker 2: it's gonna be my last project in the industry. I'm
- 42:42Speaker 2: doing and uh, I'm leaving the industry. This is my goodbye,
- 42:48Speaker 2: my bond voyage. I am doing a video for the
- 42:52Speaker 2: brand new airlines. Sharpie is starting an airline, the Pen
- 42:57Speaker 2: The Pen, and I'm doing Sharpie Airlines and they're letting
- 43:01Speaker 2: me have a lot of fun with it. It's literally
- 43:07Speaker 2: they just bought a bunch of Frontier planes and they
- 43:09Speaker 2: crossed the name out and they just wrote their names
- 43:12Speaker 2: next to me.
- 43:12Speaker 4: Oh that's fun. Isn't that funny? I do about that?
- 43:16Speaker 2: So what I did is is is the people come
- 43:18Speaker 2: in and we we erase their face and we draw
- 43:20Speaker 2: another face on top of them. It is fucking crazy.
- 43:23Speaker 2: My nephew worked at Pixar before he had some allegations
- 43:26Speaker 2: and he's helping me with it, and it's really amazing.
- 43:29Speaker 5: That's incredible. That is absolutely incredible. That's really interesting too
- 43:33Speaker 5: that he had this allegation.
- 43:34Speaker 2: I mean, look, be naughty, be bad, be awful, get arrested,
- 43:38Speaker 2: but at least make it interesting.
- 43:41Speaker 3: That is so funny that reminds me of a saying
- 43:44Speaker 3: of where I'm from.
- 43:45Speaker 5: It says, it sounds, it goes a little something like this.
- 43:50Speaker 3: Louise Garnen fanskun poursenessk and and it means for love
- 43:55Speaker 3: of God, make things it for interesting.
- 43:58Speaker 5: So Iceland, no where, so Russia? So Orange County that
